Your Highness - Sanji x Reader: Part One
PART TWO PART THREE
Tumblr media
plot: you’re a runaway princess bride who finds her way into the straw hat crew. you expected one hell of an adventure, but you never expected to fall for the head chef. things get even more complicated when your father, the king, and your ex-fiancé send their troops after the going merry. now you must choose between surrendering to save your crew and being with the only man you’ve ever truly loved. but of course, the straw hat crew isn’t going to let you go without a fight. especially sanji.
You panted heavily, hands gripped tightly onto your heavy white skirts as you navigated your way through the back alleys of the city. Your hair, which was previously tied up in perfect ringlets behind an intricate headdress, was now flying wildly behind you in loose waves. Suddenly, your heeled shoe snapped beneath you, and you fell to the ground with a thud. Mud splashed up onto your pristine white wedding gown, but you didn’t care. You were more focused on the march of soldiers’ footsteps that sounded off in the distance. You snapped your head around to glance behind you, then got back up on your feet to continue running away, your shoe left discarded in the alleyway. You didn’t know where you were heading, but you knew you had to get far away from the castle.
You never liked being a princess. All the rules and expectations were suffocating. Everyone was always telling you what to do, how to dress, how to act, how to feel… you had no freedom and led an extremely restricted life. You were the eldest daughter of the king, with two older brothers in line for the throne before you. Since birth, it was very clear to you that your only purpose in life was to marry a prince and produce his heirs so that your father could gain an ally. You were merely a pawn in a game that you never even got a turn in, and you were sick of it. You craved adventure. To see the wonders of the great world as they were intended to be explored. To live a life of passion that offered you fulfillment and excitement. That was your dream.
Today was supposed to be your wedding day. Your father had picked a prince for you to marry, and you were to be wed in just an hour. You were not in love with your fiancé, in fact, you’d never even spoken to him before. You only met him once, and that was when your father informed you of your betrothal. He was smug, entitled, and pompous with you the entire time he addressed you, treating you like a trophy or a pet. You decided right then and there that there was no way you were spending the rest of your life married to a man like him. So today, after your ladies’ maids had gotten you dressed and left your quarters, you took your chance to make an escape. You gathered up some gold and a few personal belongings and climbed down the ivy on the side of your ivory tower, making a run for it.
You reached the outskirts of the city along the coast, several long piers stretching out in front of you with huge, royal ships docked along the side of it. They were likely all boats full of nobles who had come as your wedding guests. You rolled your eyes as you scanned over them. Were you ever going to be able to escape the life you were born into? Was this just a foolish attempt of running away? Maybe you should just turn around and surrender to your father. Perhaps the punishment wouldn’t be to severe if you turned yourself in before the wedding.
Just as you were about to give up hope, you noticed an unfamiliar ship with a ram’s head decorating its bow. It was smaller than the other ships, and the crew didn’t look very stately at all. You saw a scrawny boy in a straw hat, a beautiful ginger girl, and a tough-looking moss-haired swordsman on deck, distracted by the map held out in front of them. Then you saw the jolly roger sail along the mast, and realized it was a pirate ship. You figured they were only here to dock ship and gather supplies, then head back out onto the seas. Seeing this as your only chance at escape, you ran towards it with unrelenting speed.
Right as you saw your fathers’ troops turning the corner, you ducked into the opening of the ship. Now in a long, empty hallway, you darted into the first open door you saw, slamming it behind you. You rested your back against the surface and sighed in relief. That was a close call. Perhaps you did have some luck on your side after all!
“I can’t make any food for you until we get more supplies, Luffy.” a man’s voice grunted from around the corner.
Shit, nevermind. You gasped, heart stopping in your chest. Cautiously, you peered around the corner and saw the most gorgeous man you had ever seen at a counter taking inventory. He had a perfect face, beautiful blonde hair, and was sharply dressed in a black suit with a pinstriped shirt and black tie underneath. His long, nimble fingers held a pen in them, swiping over the papers in front of him with quick fervor, pale blue eyes focused on his work.
When he didn’t hear a response from who he assumed was his captain, he glanced up and met your panicked gaze. His eyes widened slightly and his lips parted slightly, seemingly awestruck by you for a few seconds. Then, as if remembering himself, he blinked and clicked his tongue, a charming smile taking place on his expression.
“My my, while it’s always a pleasure to have a beautiful lady in my kitchen, might I ask what you’re doing here madam?” he asked with a flirty lilt to his voice.
You also snapped out of your daze at the sudden question, taking a few slow strides towards the stranger.
“Please sir,” you began, mustering up as much courage and diplomacy as you could. “I’m about to lose my freedom. My dream is to see the world, but I have people chasing after me to lock me back up in my gilded cage. I need to escape this kingdom without anyone knowing where I went.”
He scanned over your appearance, taking in your exquisite wedding gown and intricate jewels.
“My god… you’re a princess aren’t you?” he murmured with a contained gasp.
You nodded reluctantly. “I am Princess Y/N of Dacovia. I’m the eldest daughter of the king, and today is my wedding day. If you just allow me to board your ship, I promise I can make it worth your while.” You reached into your bag and pulled out a handful of gold. “Please captain.”
He smiled once again, putting his hands on his hips as his eyes flickered to the ground. He glanced back up at you and ran a hand through his golden locks. “While I appreciate the formalities your highness, I’m not the captain of this ship. I’m Sanji, the head chef.”
You winced, embarrassed by your groveling. You swallowed hard, then regained your confidence and met his gaze again with a polite smile. “My apologies. It’s a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Sir Sanji.” You curtseyed to him.
“The pleasure is all mine, your highness.” he grinned, bowing at the waist. “But there’s no need to call me sir.”
You smiled appreciatively. “Then, there’s no need for you to call me your highness either. Y/N will do. I’m not particularly attached to my title as you can see.”
He chuckled heartily at your joke, cocking his hip forward and crossing his arms. “My, I’ve never met a noblewoman with such a good sense of humor.”
“You’ve met other noblewomen?” you asked perplexedly. You never expected the head chef of a pirate crew to have such connections.
“I used to work at a restaurant in the middle of the East Blue called the Baratie. It was very high class and had an extensive guest list of noblemen and commoners alike. Our motto was to never turn away anyone who was hungry.”
“That’s very admirable.” you complimented him. “Is cooking on a pirate ship your dream?” It was kind of a personal question, but conversation seemed to flow so easily between the two of you that you felt secure in asking it.
“Not exactly.” he laughed, leaning against the counter. “My dream is to find the All Blue. It’s a cook’s paradise, with a vast variety of ingredients from all four seas. I met our captain, Luffy, while working at the Baratie, and he offered me a spot on his crew. All of us are after something in this world, and Luffy wants to help us achieve our dreams.” He walked around the counter and reached for your hand. You gently placed it in his grasp, letting him squeeze it gingerly. “I’m sure if you talk to him, he’ll allow you to join as well.”
You smiled brightly, with such unbridled joy you thought you might burst. “Oh, thank you Sanji!” You couldn’t contain yourself any longer, and threw your arms around him in a tight hug.
He let out another contained gasp, then reciprocated your affections with a lighthearted chuckle. He pulled away after embracing you, putting his hands on your shoulders and looking you in the eyes.
“It’s no trouble, your highness. It’ll be nice to have another beautiful woman on board.” he grinned flirtatiously. “I’ll go fetch Captain Luffy.”
You nodded, watching him retreat into the hallway. “I told you, you don’t have to call me your highness.”
He paused in the doorway, looking over his shoulder at you. “I know. It just suits you.”
You rolled your eyes. “Being a princess doesn’t suit me at all.”
“Maybe not being a royal princess…” he proposed. “But perhaps you could be the princess of the Going Merry.”
——————
“A princess? You’re joking, right?” a female voice rang out down the hallway. You jumped in your seat at the counter, startled at the sudden break of silence.
“Oh man, I’ve gotta see this.” a gruff, sarcastic male voice commented.
“There’s no way she’s prettier than Kaya.” another, more lighthearted male voice added.
“Come now, just give her a chance.” you heard Sanji bargain with them. “You’ll like her Luffy. She’s got that certain spark, you know?”
You braced yourself for meeting the captain. You hadn’t seen any pirate captains in real life before, but the stories you read painted them as enourmous, swarthy men with long beards and dirty teeth. You gulped, gathering all of your courage to face the fearsome leader of the Going Merry.
The door swung open, and you locked eyes with the scrawny boy in the straw hat that you saw on the deck. Your eyes widened. He was the captain?
Sanji entered behind him, as well as the pretty ginger girl and the stoic swordsman you saw earlier, and a strong-looking, darker-skinned man as well.
Sanji smiled warmly as his eyes met yours. “Princess Y/N, it’s my pleasure to introduce you to the crew. This is our navigator Nami, our first-mate Zoro, warrior and storyteller Usopp, and finally… Captain Monkey D. Luffy.”
“Hi Y/N!” the captain beamed, stretching his hand out in front of him.
You just stared at it in confusion. No one had ever initiated a handshake with you. You didn’t even know how to reciprocate it. You began to panic. Were you already going to blow your chance at escaping?
Suddenly, Sanji gently picked up your arm and guided your hand towards Luffy’s. Luffy wrapped his fingers around your palm, thumb hooked with yours, and you did the same back to him. Sanji tilted your elbow up and down to shake the captain’s hand. You looked over at him, mouthing a silent thank you.
“So, I’m told you want to join the Straw Hat Crew?” Luffy asked with an excited grin. “Why’s that?”
You exhaled, collecting your thoughts before answering the captain. “Captain Luffy, as Sanji may have already told you, I am Princess Y/N, eldest daughter of the royal family of Dacovia. I’m about to be married against my will to a prince I don’t love, so I ran away from the castle. Soldiers are currently trying to hunt me back down. I know I was born into a life of immense privilege, but I don’t want to be a princess. I want to see the world and experience life as my own woman. I might not have a lot of skills that would be valuable on a pirate crew, but if you just allow me to stay with you, I can make it worth your while.” You opened up your purse and showed him all the gold that you had brought. Nami and Zoro’s eyes widened, but Luffy seemed unfazed.
“That’s very nice, but payment won’t be necessary.” Luffy smiled brightly. “The Going Merry is a ship of dreams. All of our crew is here to achieve their greatest desire.” He began to point to the members as he listed them. “Nami here wants to draw a map of the world. Zoro is gonna become the greatest swordsman in the world. Sanji will find the All Blue. Usopp there wants to be a brave warrior of the sea. And I…” He jumped up onto the counter and placed his hands on his hips dramatically. “Am gonna become King of the Pirates!” He knelt down and leaned towards you. “Do you believe in us?”
You looked between all the members of the crew. They all seemed so hopeful… so passionate… so brave… your eyes stopped on Sanji. As you looked into his icy blue eyes, you saw a certain sparkle that made you feel certain he would do anything to achieve his dream. Then you glanced back around at the rest of the crew, and saw that same optimistic glint in all of their eyes. You turned back to Luffy, meeting his determined gaze.
“Yes, I do. I believe that everyone in the Straw Hat Crew will do exactly what they set out to do.” you told him with a confident nod.
Luffy gave you the widest grin you’d ever seen, extending his arm towards you. “Then welcome aboard, your highness!”
Your face broke out in an overjoyed smile as you took Luffy’s hand. He pulled you up onto the countertop, making you gasp as he began dancing around with you. Usopp began cheering as well, while Nami let out an amused chuckle. Zoro cracked a content half-smile, which was huge for him.
Suddenly, your foot slipped off the edge of the counter, and you lost your balance. Now tumbling to the floor, your eyes widened as you envisioned your downfall. You squinted your eyes, waiting for the impact as everyone around you gasped worriedly.
Right as you expected to hit the ground, you landed softly in a cushiony embrace. Slowly creaking your eyes open, you were met by Sanji’s gorgeous blue eyes and charming smile hovering overtop of you.
“We’re gonna have to take it easy on her highness for a while guys.” he chuckled, shaking you in his arms playfully. Everyone joined the two of you in laughter, even Zoro.
“Speaking of which, we’re going to have to get you out of that gown.” Nami giggled. “Come with me, I’ll lend you some of my clothes.”
“We’ll get you some shoes when we get our supplies too.” Sanji assured you.
You glanced down at your bare feet. You didn’t know when you lost your other shoe, but you supposed it was useless without its mate anyway.
“Thank you all so very much.” you beamed, glancing between the crew members. “I am truly indebted to all of you.” You looked at Sanji again with admiration, as if to say especially you. He nodded, somehow understanding exactly what you meant.
——————
And so, you set off aboard the Going Merry as the newest member of the Straw Hat Crew!
It was a bit of an adjustment at first.
You shared a room with Nami, as she was the only other girl in the crew. She was a bit rough around the edges at first, but you were able to crack her tough exterior after a while. Deep down, she was actually very sweet and empathetic. Like you, she had just been through a lot. She was certainly glad to have another girl on board to help keep all the boys in line, and the two of you actually became quite close.
Usopp was always happy to entertain you with stories of his “grand adventures.” You had never heard tales of such whimsy and wonder with your stuffy background, and always listened intently and amazedly. Being away from Kaya, there wasn’t anyone else around who gave his stories much attention and awe. Though it wasn’t the same, he did derive a great happiness from your encounters.
Like Nami, Zoro was also pretty distant at first. You began to notice that everyone in the crew had some pretty thick trauma. However, you won him over by buying him plenty of liquor whenever you stopped somewhere with a bar. He also offered to teach you some general sword fighting moves when you expressed how worried you were about not being able to protect yourself. He acted as if it was no big deal, but you could tell he enjoyed having someone to fight with, even if it was just the basics.
Luffy was just as friendly with you as he was with everyone. He would regularly ask you about what your life was like a princess, and what kind of adventures you hoped to encounter at sea with him. You would often sit on the bow together, not having to worry about falling off, because you knew his rubber arms could stretch out and catch you no matter how far you flew. The two of you would gather up a bunch of snacks, courtesy of Sanji, and just talk through the night, staring up at the stars.
Then there was Sanji. He was definitely the member of the crew you were closest with. Not only was he the first one you met, but he was the one who understood your background the best. And, you’d be lying if you said you weren’t completely captivated by him. You knew it was silly, and that he was charming with just about every girl he met, but you couldn’t help but fall for him. It wasn’t just his perfect smile that made you melt, or his flirtatious attitude. It was his unyielding kindness and understanding. He was forever patient with you, never making you feel like a burden or an inadequate member of the crew.
You actually started out as his assistant, as the crew figured it would be the easiest thing for you to grasp as a newfound pirate. You loved hearing him talk about food and cooking. The passion and excitement in his voice was utterly captivating, and you could tell it all came from a place of genuine contentment. He was always encouraging with you in the kitchen, guiding your hands with his own as he taught you how to chop vegetables properly. You tried to ignore the way his breath blew against your neck, and how he smelled like fresh linen and tobacco, but it was kind of impossible when he was literally pressed up against your back.
Today, Sanji had given you the day off from kitchen duties, saying a pretty lady like yourself deserved to rest every once in a while. So, you were currently just sitting at the kitchen table, writing away in your journal. Finally having the freedom to dress yourself, you had traded your heels for combat boots and your ballgown for a simple white cotton dress and a black leather waist belt, your hair gathered back in one of Nami’s borrowed red bandanas. You had abandoned all of your fancy jewelry, except for a simple string of pearls and some small gold hoops in your ears.
You jumped as the door swung open, revealing a smiling blonde chef.
“Oh, Sanji!” you greeted him. “Would you like me to leave?”
“No, by all means, stay. I could use some good scenery.” he winked, going over to his counter. You couldn’t help the warm blush that crept up your cheeks. You tried to tell yourself it was just how he was, but that was proving to be a futile effort. “What are you doing anyway, my dear?”
“Oh nothing, just writing some poetry.” you explained, gesturing to your journal.
“Really? I didn’t know you wrote poetry.” he asked, beginning to boil some water. “My, you are just full of surprises, your highness.”
You laughed lightheartedly at his banter, slowly shaking off your bashfulness. “It’s just one of those princess habits I can’t seem to shake. I’ve been taught it from such a young age, it’s one of my only outlets. Sometimes I feel like it’s the only thing I’m good at.”
He frowned slightly, shaking his head. “Don’t say that, your highness. You’re good at a lot of things.”
“Oh yeah? Like what?” you fished, rolling your eyes playfully.
“Well, for starters, you make a wonderful sous chef.” he grinned, peeling some potatoes. “I don’t think I could prepare Luffy’s monstrous portions without your help.”
You giggled, closing up your journal. “Well that’s mostly just you being a great teacher.”
Now it was Sanji’s turn to feel bashful, although he was great at covering it up. “Well, you’ve also got a great sense of humor. I don’t know anyone on the crew who hasn’t cracked up at one of your jokes. You even make Zoro laugh, and he’s a major stick in the mud.”
You chuckled at him, feeling slightly embarrassed at his praise. “Oh Sanji, now you’re just trying to butter me up like I’m one of your entrees.”
“Just being honest, princess.” he shrugged with a cocky smirk. “You’re also very selfless. You’ve been willing to sell a lot of your old jewelry just to get us some extra money for supplies.”
“Eh, I don’t need any of that stuff anymore.” you huffed, waving a hand in the air dismissively.
He set down his peeler and placed both hands flat on the counter, leaning forward and looking at you with a sudden intensity that made you freeze.
“You’re one of the bravest women I’ve ever met. How many princesses have ran away from their weddings and joined a pirate crew?”
You glanced down at the ground, fighting the urge to smile. “Not many, I believe.”
“I’d wager zero.” Sanji retorted. “You know what you want in life, and you’re not afraid to go after it. You’re smart, and kind, and beautiful, so I won’t have you meandering on about your so-called inadequacies, alright?”
You nodded with a small, shy grin. “Yes, chef.”
And on the flip of a dime, his same old playful demeanor returned, and he resumed preparing dinner. He plunked the peeled potatoes into the pot of water and moved onto slicing up the steak.
“I’d love to read your poetry sometime. I’m sure it’s just as lovely as you are.” he mused, glancing up at you momentarily.
“Oh I don’t know…” you muttered, fumbling with the journal in your hands. “I’m not sure it’s any good. The only one who’s ever read it is my governess.”
“Oh? And what did she think of it?” he asked interestedly.
You smiled fondly at the memory of her. “She always told me I was gifted. She was so kind, always commending me on my creativity and passion. She used to call me her poetry princess.”
“She sounds like an amazing lady.” Sanji commented. “Were you fond of her?”
“Oh, most definitely!” you marveled, spinning around in your chair to face him. “She was more of a mother than the queen ever was to me. She was the first person in the world who made me feel like I was more than just a decorative pawn in my father’s game of conquests.”
He chuckled lightly, beginning to prepare his skillet with butter and garlic. “Do you miss her?”
Your eyes landed on your lap as you tried to find the right words. “Very much…” You started to feel a lump form in your throat. It was hard to think about how you had abandoned her. You didn’t regret leaving the kingdom, but part of you did regret leaving her behind.
Sanji seemed to sense your inner turmoil, as he removed his skillet from the stove and walked around the counter towards you. He knelt down in front of you, hooking a finger under your chin and tilting it up to prompt you to meet his eyes.
“I know how difficult it is to leave someone you care for behind.” he explained sympathetically, looking at you with such soft kindness that you felt like you could burst into tears at any moment. “But the thing you have to remember is that they want what’s best for you. They want you to chase after your dreams and live the life you deserve. It might be hard to accept that they don’t need to be a part of it, but their love and hope for you is greater than that.” He brought a thumb up to your cheek to wipe away the stray tears that you didn’t even realize had fallen. “You did what you had to do. And I’m so glad you burst into my kitchen months ago, all tattered and panicked, begging for safe passage. Because the truth is…” He then placed both hands on your cheeks, giving you the warmest smile he’d ever given anyone. “It wouldn’t be the same without you, your highness.”
You smiled through your tears, placing your hands around his and giving them a delicate squeeze. “I’m so grateful for you Sanji. You’ve been so kind to me.”
He grinned contentedly. “It’s my pleasure, your highness.”
You stayed like that for a little while, just holding onto each others hands and smiling at each other. Suddenly, the mood shifted as you noticed his eyes focused on your lips. You mirrored his actions, glancing down at his own lips. They were plump and pretty, a beautiful shade of blush that had you in a trance. His tongue darted between them momentarily.
Your eyes locked in on his for a moment. They were shining with light-blue anticipation, the kind that gave you so much confidence and courage. Both of your eyes darted back to each others lips, and what seemed to be in unison, you began slowly inching forward. You fluttered your eyelids shut in preparation for the connection of your lips…
“Hey Sanji, what are you making for dinner?” Luffy suddenly asked from the doorway.
Sanji squinted his eyes together and let you a frustrated sigh. When he opened them, you shot him a sympathetic smile, one that hid your own discomfort and disappointment extremely well.
“Hey there captain. Tonight’s dinner is grilled steak strips, garlic roasted potatoes, and parmesan crusted asparagus.” Sanji huffed as he walked over to Luffy, who had a clueless grin on his face.
“Awesome! I can’t wait!” the captain beamed, hopping up on the counter. “Oh, hi Y/N! I didn’t see you there!”
“Hi Luffy.” you smiled politely. It was hard to be mad at him when he greeted you so cheerfully. “I was just about to head out, Nami said something about teaching me how to read a map.” you lied.
Sanji shot you a small pout. “Are you sure you have to leave? I could still use some help prepping the ingredients.” He was pleading at you with his eyes to stay. However, things were now too awkward with Luffy walking in on you guys almost kissing, and you just needed to leave the kitchen.
“It’s my day off, remember?” you replied cheekily, making your way over to the exit. “I’ll see you guys at dinner.”
——————
It had been a week since your almost-kiss with Sanji. Things were undeniably tense between the two of you. You were still friendly with him, and he was as flirtatious as he always was. But you both knew you were avoiding a huge elephant in the room, and neither one of you knew how to bring it up without making things uncomfortable.
It was currently the middle of the night, and you were laying in your hammock-bed staring at the wooden ceiling of you and Nami’s shared bedroom. You were having yet another sleepless night. Every time you started to drift off, you’d immediately be reminded of how you were so close to kissing the guy of your dreams.
You glanced over to Nami’s side of the room, hoping to see her restless so you could talk to her about your dilemma. She was the only one on the crew who knew about your enormous crush on Sanji. However, she was sound asleep in her own hammock.
You exhaled a heavy breath, then threw your blankets off your legs and stood up to leave the room. You obviously weren’t going to fall asleep anytime soon, so you figured you’d stretch your legs a bit.
You ended up crawling your way up into the crow’s nest, as there was currently no one else on deck. You leaned back against the hard, cold wood and gazed up at the stars. It was amazing to think that these were the same stars you looked at from your ivory tower months ago. They seemed so much brighter over the sea.
To fill the silence, you decided to sing one of the songs your governess taught you. You formed a habit of singing it to yourself whenever you were stressed or feeling hopeless. It made you feel calm and grounded.
You tried to be quiet, as everyone else was asleep, but as the song went on you couldn’t help but put more passion into your song. You had always loved singing since you were a child.
Finally your song came to an end, and you were startled by the sound of applause. Your head snapped around to the edge of the crow’s nest. There was Sanji, clapping his hands with an admiring smile.
“You have a lovely voice, princess.” he complimented you, hopping over the barrier to sit down next to you.
“I’m sorry, did I wake you?” you asked, concerned you were singing loud enough to wake the whole crew.
“No, not at all! I was up making myself a late night snack. It helps when I’m having trouble falling asleep.” he explained.
He pulled a cigarette out of his pocket and lit it up, taking a long drag before exhaling the smoke. He held one out to you. “Want one?”
You studied it, debating whether or not you wanted it. “I’m not sure, I’ve never smoked before.”
“Here, you can try a puff of mine. See if you like it.” he grinned, handing you his lit cigarette. You cautiously brought it to your lips and began to suck on it. “Just make sure you don’t-“
But he was too late. You were already coughing up a storm, hunched over and pounding on your chest.
“Inhale…” he finished with a chuckle, patting your back .
“God Sanji, how do you smoke those?” you hacked out between coughs. “It’s disgusting, I’m throwing this out!”
“No don’t!” he pleaded, reaching for the cigarette.
But you were too fast, throwing it over the edge of the crow’s nest before he could grab it.
He just looked at you with his mouth agape, the corners of his mouth tilted up in a baffled smirk. “That wasn’t very princess-like of you. I’m starting to think this pirates life is rubbing off on you.”
You laughed, rolling your eyes as he just pulled another one out of his pocket and lit it up. “So, you couldn’t sleep either hm?” you asked, tilting your head curiously.
He shook his head. “I couldn’t stop thinking about you, your highness.”
You chuckled, nudging him with your elbow. “Same here. I’ve been meaning to talk to you about what happened, but I just…”
“Couldn’t find the right words?” he finished your sentence for you.
You nodded, putting your head in your hands and laughing in disbelief at how easily he could read you. “Exactly.”
He leaned back up against the barrier to join you in looking up at the night sky, seemingly in thought. You suddenly felt brave enough to lay your head on his shoulder. You could feel him smiling down at you as you cuddled up closer to him.
“Well, who says we need words?” he asked, turning his head towards you. “Actions speak louder sometimes.”
“Hm?” you asked, sitting up to face him.
He put out his cigarette and tilted your chin up with his forefinger, prompting you to look up at him. He just looked over your features for a moment, taking in the sight before him.
“You’re the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen.” he told you in an uncharacteristically serious voice. His eyes were like cornflower pools of commendation, fixed upon you with unrelenting intensity.
You just stared back at him, mouth slightly agape at the sudden intimacy of the moment. “Thank you, Sanji…”
“I mean it.” he told you, looking you straight in the eye. “But your beauty is only a fraction of what makes you special. I mean, you’re a talented writer, a beautiful singer, an amazing aspiring chef and swordsman, a good joke-teller, and a selfless, loyal pirate… Is there anything you can’t do, your highness?”
At that moment, it was like a cupid’s arrow had shot you straight through the heart. As a princess, you were always taught that the most important thing for you to be was beautiful. Not smart, not kind, not creative. Your only job was to sit still and look pretty. But with Sanji, all of that was thrown out the window. You got to express every part of your personality that you’d had to hold back for so many years. It was freeing, and it made you feel like your existence was truly meaningful to someone.
Before anyone could possibly interrupt you, you took your chance and pulled him towards you by his black neck tie, crashing your lips against his with everything you had. There was an element of softness to it, but it was just intense enough that he could feel how long you had desired to press your lips to his.
He was frozen for only a second or two, then he gingerly placed a hand upon your cheek, gripping onto it slightly to deepen the kiss.
After a while he pulled back to catch his breath, forehead pressed against yours as you both panted heavily.
“You can add amazing kisser to the list of things you’re good at.” he smirked, brushing a strand of hair behind your ear.
You giggled, placing your hand over his. “With you around, my list will become a mile long.”
“As it should be.” he told you, going back in for another kiss. This one was more passionate, his free hand moving to your waist to hold you in place. Your hands went up to his shoulders, gripping onto them tightly as if you could fly away at any second.
His tongue brushed against the parting of your lips as if asking for safe passage, which you granted him by sliding your own under his. He tasted like rum and vanilla, equal parts bitter and sweet with a touch of tobacco, and you couldn’t get enough of it.
“I really like you, Sanji.” you suddenly confessed, not being able to hold it back any longer.
He held your face in his hands, looking at you in pure amazement, searching for any possible sign that you might be joking. “Do you mean it, your highness?”
You nodded, swallowing the lump that was beginning to form in your throat. This was it. This was the part where he would either refuse or accept your feelings.
“I like you a lot too, Y/N.” he smiled warmly, pulling you into his lap. He began frantically kissing you all over your face and neck, making you giggle and feign resistance.
For the remainder of the night, the seagulls and pelicans were the only ones who heard the laughter of two pirates exchanging kisses from the crows nest. They both ended up falling asleep curled up in each others arms, causing the rest of the crew to tease them lovingly in the morning.

OH
I just realised something about Laserhawk Rayman which I've been saying about Rayman for DECADES.
So what is Rayman's defining goal which powers him throughout all his games? It's gonna sound corny, but it's FRIENDSHIP.
And you'll say 'oh that's not uncommon, most videogame protags do stuff for the sake of their friends', but it's kinda more than that.
Rayman LIVES AND BREATHES through the love and support of his friends.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rayman is a strange little freak guy, one of a kind even amongst his own species*, and instead of being shunned and alone he is held up and supported by his friends and propelled forward by the power of friendship. This is more of a driving force in his life than a romantic interest, a prized possession, or any kind of praise.
(*I still use the logic of Rayman 1 that other limbless beings like Rayman exist but were not created by magic. Hence why Rayman has immortality)
On the surface you have his friendship with Globox as a clear example of his devotion. Despite their differences the two are like brothers and bond through various games in different ways. saving and being saved by Globox is a big part of Rayman 2. Curing Globox of Andre is literally the driving force of Rayman 3.
When Rayman is trapped by the pirates at the start of Rayman 2 he is absolutely distraught, powerless and unable to escape on his own. Without Globox risking his life on the vague chance he'd get put in a cell near Rayman to give him a silver lum, Rayman might never have escaped the Buccaneer. Rayman's friendship with Globox trumped Globox's absolute fear of the pirates.
Rayman's friends are always the ones giving him support and gifts and powers to help him save the day, not in a 'you suck lets hold your hand as you go through the game' way but in a 'we have absolute faith in you, friend, anything we can do to help we will!' way. And in turn Rayman returns that love through his actions and compassion. Rayman is who he is because of the love and acceptance of his friends. Hence why he is always seen relaxing with them, chilling with Globox and Barbara and Murfy and the Teensies.
Tumblr media
And it's Rayman's willingness to befriend others and turn the other cheek that betters him overall. Mosquito, Inspector Grub, the Rabbids, they have all been part of his journey despite being antagonistic to him at the start.
Tumblr media
When Rayman is separated from his friends, or unable to make new friendships, he kinda falls apart and struggles by himself. He gets lonely, realises how small he is in the world. If he doesn't have a focus to find his friends and help them he is lost.
Which makes perfect sense when you see a version of him in Laserhawk.
Rayman is the most popular mascot in Eden but HE DOESN'T HAVE FRIENDS.
The closest connection he has is to the Counsel who run Eden and even they keep him at arm's length from what we see in the show. They are not his friends, they are his abusive, neglectful bosses that dropped him the minute he stepped out of line, and without them Rayman has NO ONE ELSE in the city he can rely on.
No wonder he's a complete mess even before the show starts. He has no one to confide his fears in, no one who understands his unique perspective. He probably has yes-men and people willing to lie about how great he is, not to mention adoring viewers and a whole fanclub of kids, but even Rayman knows that's fake. They are not his real friends. He's the picture of the lonely celebrity in an ivory tower.
Tumblr media
You can see it in Rayman's face when he meets Bullfrog, and Bullfrog VALIDATES his feelings of betrayal and anger against Red and the Counsel. Finally he has someone showing him genuine compassion but also not mollycoddling him. Someone who is honest with him and not freaked out by/judgemental of how he looks. He's scared and angry, but there is a light at the end of the dark tunnel before him.
This and being replaced by Eden is the breaking point that causes Ray to become Ramon and fight back. He now has an end goal, take revenge on the Counsel and save Bullfrog from the electric chair. He has multiple reasons for doing this ranging from his belief in protecting hybrids in general to protecting his image to taking away some of Eden's power at gunpoint...but I also like to think he did it because he put his faith in Bullfrog.
Because as well as being one of the only people in Eden who might have an idea of what's going on behind the veil, he's probably the only person Rayman could consider a friend.

can i request anything mihawk related and him pining after y/n
       —   I CAN SEE YOU (YOUNG MIHAWK X READER)
Tumblr media
A/N: this is part of this series, which requests are open for! These fics are all one-shots, so they can be read separately.
He'd been thinking about you a lot lately.
You, the pretty girl who sailed with the Roger Pirates and made port in the same towns he did from time to time. You, who seemed to always be flanked by the boy with the red nose and the other boy with the red hair.
You. You. You.
You were clever - he noticed that at once - you had to be, to hold your own with so many men stronger and older than you, and he watched as you navigated through one dangerous situation after another, always escaping unscathed. The other boys tried to help, of course, but you didn't need them at all. Mihawk noticed that, too.
He liked the sort of clothes you wore - usually a bit oversized, which made sense, so you didn't have to buy new ones every time you grew, an unfortunate practicality for anyone growing up at sea - and often velvet, or satin, or with embroidered patterns, and usually in dark shades of olive, maroon or black. Sometimes cotton dresses of the palest ivory, which he also liked.
Mihawk had made a habit of always noticing the appearance of others, and judged them quite harshly on it - not their looks or dimensions or things they could not change, but how well they presented themselves. Living the way he did, the way you did, did not lend itself to luxury or composure or cleanliness, so he noticed whenever anyone paid special attention to how they looked.
You did. He never caught you without loosely wound curls, brushed out, or loose buns, or intricate braids that he sometimes heard the red-haired pirate protesting at doing for you. Mihawk noticed all of these things because they were things he liked about himself, and he liked them about you, too.
But even after all this liking and appreciating, which had gone on for many months now, he could never have the strength to talk to you. It wasn't for his own insecurity, although Mihawk was a good deal less boastful and more shy than most of the pirates his age, but more for fear of what he might say when he actually spoke to you for the first time. He had never struck out with girls before, but that was mostly for lack of trying. They found him, most of the time, and either liked his Hawk-Eyes or they didn't.
It was on one of those days, where Mihawk had made port at a small island and was sipping on a flute of wine at a small bar, that he found himself gazing at you again. You'd just stumbled off Roger's ship, and seemed in awe of your surroundings. Your friends already held drinks far too big for them and had wandered off, staring at the skyline, but you were clearly unsure of what to get. Mihawk watched as your fingernail dragged against a small menu, tracing every option, hesitating around the ones with dried flowers in them. You liked dried flowers, evidently, and he would remember that.
The thought crossed his mind that he might go get a drink for you, and perhaps begin some sort of conversation-
No. No. Stupid.
You could get your own drink.
And you were about to, it seemed, when a rather terrifying-looking mercenary pressed a blade to your back. Mihawk immediately reached for his own, which he had fondly nicknamed 'Yoru,' and had not yet seen much action.
"How'd you find me?" you said, voice trembling.
"Followed you," said the mercenary. "You owe us. We know you only gave us half of what you found when you raided that vault."
"That's not true," you said, and Mihawk felt you were telling the truth, although he may have been biased. "It just wasn't as much as you thought it would be-"
The mercenary forced his blade closer, and Mihawk decided he couldn't allow this to go on for one more second. Moving quietly, he removed Yoru from his scabbard, and drew the blade against the mercenary's neck.
"Move aside," said Mihawk, trying to make his voice more steady than it felt.
The mercenary stared him down.
"Who are you?"
"Dracule Mihawk," he said. "And I'd like you to step away."
"I refuse."
What happened next was completely uncalled for and also fated. Mihawk simply moved the sword very quickly to the side, and the mercenary fell, and that was the end of it.
It was not the first blood Dracule Mihawk had ever spilled. It was, however, the first blood he had spilled with this particular sword.
This sword, which would live on in infamy long after he was gone, this sword, which would become synonymous with not only his name, but swordsmanship itself.
First blood, this sword, and it had all been over you.
History would forget.
...But you would remember.

Good Boy
It was a warm day on the Going Merry. It was mid-afternoon and you were alone on the ship, busying yourself by swabbing the deck. The rest of the crew was out on their own journeys, Nami and Usopp shopping, Sanji gathering supplies, and who honestly knew what Zoro and Luffy were up to. You hadn't felt like travelling, you were docked here for a few days, and you really wanted to just rest. But that was this morning, and now you were bored. You sighed, perhaps you should've planned something too.
"(Name)!" You spun around at the sound, seeing Luffy waving both arms at you. Beside him, Sanji carried boxes of supplies. Your eyes softened. Moving to the gangplank you wave back at the boys.
"Ahoy Captain!" You joked, eyes shifting to Sanji and winking. "And ahoy handsome chef. What brings you to my ship?"
Sanji softly smiled at your antics, whilst Luffy boarded the ship excited. "I'm going to pretend I didn't hear that." Luffy grinned, grabbing your shoulders. You laughed.
"So no hat?" You joked. Luffy shook his head.
"Where is everyone?"
"You two are the first ones back." You shrugged, turning to Sanji. "Can I help ease your burden there, Sanji? That's a lot of stuff."
The man huffed humorously, jostling the boxes in his hands to be more comfortable as his long legs boarded the ship. He shot you a lopsided grin. "And subject a pretty lady to manual labour? I don't think so."
You giggled. Damn that man and his charisma. Luffy buzzed with excitement next to you. "You all good there? Did you eat a hive of bees before you got here?"
Luffy ignored you, instead badgering Sanji. "Can we give it to her now, Sanji? Please?"
Give you what? You cocked your head, confused at your fellow pirates' attitude. You shot a look at the chef, raising an eyebrow. He shrugged.
"I suppose so."
"Yeah!" Luffy pulled something from his best, handing it to you. "(Name), we got you something. Look, look! Isn't it cool?"
You gasped. A book. It was a modest size, covered in a gorgeous (colour) cover. You ran your fingers over the cover, feeling its coarseness. Eagerly you untied the side tie. The paper inside was gorgeous, a creamy ivory paper with a thickness that made you excited at its possibility. It was lightly textured, perfect for any kind of medium. Truly a beautiful sketchbook. You fawned over it. How did they know? You'd tried to not let it show that you were almost through your current sketchbook. You forced your eyes to acknowledge the two, happiness swelling in your chest.
"Ah Luffy it's perfect! You're such a good boy!" You praised, cradling the book to your chest. You quickly drew the captain into a bear hug. Luffy laughed, scratching the back of his neck. Beside him, Sanji pouted.
"It's no big deal (name), we can't fulfil your dream if we don't have something to draw in!"
"I helped too love." You heard Sanji flirt. He was just joking, well, half-joking. Well, no, if he was honest he really wanted a hug. But he couldn't just outright ask for a hug that wouldn't look cool. So he tried to hint lightheartedly. It didn't bother him too much when he noticed you roll your eyes, chuckling.
It did, however, bother him when he saw you turn your body to him. He didn't really think you'd acknowledge his flirtations, so when you outstretched your arms and pulled the tall man into a surprisingly strong hug, he blanked.
Oh.
The hug was warm, firm, and he could feel all of you against him. You smelt so good, smiling of sea air, soap, and something uniquely you.
"Well thank you too." You laughed, squeezing him for emphasis. "You're also a very good boy."
Oh!
Good boy. Sanji really didn't want to admit how much he liked that. Neither did he really want to unpack all that. He didn't want you to catch on to just how much he liked that, so he quickly squeezed you back before pulling you back to arms length. You stared up at him confused. You heard him clear his throat. Sensing his discomfort you let go, patting his shoulder.  Any hurt you may have felt you covered up with a bright smile, clutching the sketchbook to your chest.
"I'm gonna start sketching immediately!"  Before Sanji could respond, you were retreating back to the girls' room, keen to get to work.
-------------
It was a cool night. Sanji was lying in his hammock, sleep evading him. The thin cotton blanket resting over his chest. Beside him, he heard Zoro's annoying snoring, Luffy to his right muttering something about meat between snores. The nose symphony slowly chipping away at his sanity. At least Usopp was quiet, he supposed. He wondered if the girls' had to put up with this. His mind wandered, what were you up to? Were you sleeping away without a care, or were you possibly scribbling away in that little book? Sanji sighed. He wondered what you drew, you always seemed so at peace. Sanji considered getting you another one, even if it was mainly to hear your praises. Gods, he'd do anything if he could please you.
"Good boy." Sanji breathed. You were going to be the death of him. He felt his heart flutter. Yeah, he guessed he probably was whipped for you. He let his mind wander. What if he fully hugged back? Would you reciprocate? Would you kiss his cheek? He felt himself flush. He could imagine how soft your lips would be, how you'd pull back with that sweet smile. If he was lucky maybe he could-
SNOOOOOOOOOOORE!
Sanji felt a growl bubble in his throat. He couldn't thrive in these conditions. Savages, having no respect for romance. Swinging his legs over the roped edge, he jumped out of the hammock, stalking his way out of the guys' quarters.
Instantly, he was hit with the cool night air. If he wasn't awake before, he was now. He lazily wandered along the deck, supposing he should probably rearrange the pantry for the ninth time if he was awake. Bare feet padding along the hard wood, he inhaled deeply, the salty sting of the sea invading his nostrils. Nearing the galley he saw it. A light at the front of the boat? Confused and intrigued he crept closer. Who the hell would be up at the hour? And then he saw it.
You wrapped up in a blanket, scribbling away in your old sketchbook. Sanji felt a soft smile creep up. You looked so cute, periodically looking up to study the scene in front of you. He felt like swooning, the way the moonlight kissed your hair, the way you seemed to sparkle, a gem in the cold night.
"What are you doing up sweetheart?" He mused, secretly relishing in how you jumped. You clutched the book to your chest, exhaling deeply as a grin formed. You whipped your head to meet the handsome chef.
"Sanji, you scared me! I'm drawing the moon. It's so pretty tonight." Your grin made him flustered. "Why are you up?"
"My bunkmates are bad for my beauty sleep." He feigned annoyance. You laughed.
"Yeah sure, like you need beauty sleep." He felt his stomach do somersaults. You opened the blanket, tapping the wood next to you. "Got a seat right here. Surely you must be cold?"
Sanji wasn't. It was a pleasant night. However, he'd be an idiot to pass up such an opportunity. He settled down next to you. You drew him in, settling the blanket around his shoulders, dragging him further against you, giggling as you went.
"Comfy?" You asked once he stopped squirming. Sanji was hyper aware of your thighs touching, you leaning into his side.
"Yeah." He breathed out. He felt his nerves buzzing, watching as you all but snuggled into him. He needed to calm down. "You like the sketchbook?"
"Love it." You beamed up at him, turning back to scribble marks down. Sanji felt his heart swell. "It's got such nice quality paper. Where did you even find such a thing?"
"Markets. Looked like it had your name on it. Luffy wanted to get you this one that was huge, but you like thicker pages, so this one just seemed like a good fit. 'Sides, I'm sure you've finished your last one."
Sanji's breath hitched as you leant your head on his shoulder, arm gripping his. "You remembered that? Gods you're good to me."
"Only you love." He managed to choke out without sounding too flustered, adding a wink to further sell the facade. You giggled. "What have you got in there anyway?"
"Oh! You wanna see?" You sounded shy, looking up at him. Sanji nodded. You offered him the older sketchbook, apprehension clear on your face. Sanji began thumbing through the paper. "I know its not brilliant but-"
"Darlin' these are stunning." He praised, tracing an intricate sketch of Merry with his fingers. You beamed next to him when you couldn't detect a lie, a blush forming on your chubby cheeks. Sanji stared at the pages, in awe at your skill.
There were sketches of the others, one of Usopp holding a mop, a detailed one of Zoro napping. His eyes caught a particularly beautiful portrait of Nami against the tangerines. He gasped. You'd captured her beauty expertly. He turned the page, there was a spread of sketches of his crewmates, of Luffy and Usopp playing on the deck, sketches of Nami plotting her maps at the galley table, even a few of Zoro exercising. He felt a frown form. There were none of him. He didn't mean to feel so selfish, but you'd captured the crew with such liveliness and love. He certainly didn't realise you had been studying his face intently.
"What's wrong?"
Sanji sighed, realising he'd been caught. He figured he'd broach the subject with humour. Plastering a fake smirk on his face he turned his attention to you. "These are incredible (Name), they look great, but am I not model material?"
You extricated yourself from your hold against him, getting to your feet. Sanji immediately felt disappointed by the loss of touch. "Wait here." Your voice was shaky.
Sanji sighed sadly, he shouldn't have said that. Instead he did as he was told, waiting patiently for your return. You must have been gone five minutes, five aching minutes for him to consider his mistake. When you returned you were holding something behind your back, looking visibly uncomfortable. Sanji raised a brow.
"Love I didn't mean you had to paint a portrait of me now." He laughed softly. You thrust a book in his face, eyes scrunched shut. He delicately tried to take the book but you didn't budge.
"Promise you won't laugh?" You asked shyly, peeking open one eye. Sanji frowned. He'd never laugh at you. He nodded. You relaxed your shoulders, agreeingly giving him the book. He was going to open the book but he took in the way you fidgeted in front of him.
"You not gonna sit back down?" You shook your head, not trusting your voice. He sighed. With no hesitation this time he opened the book.
Oh.
The first used page he came across were small sketches of him working in the kitchen. There must have been four or five small, quick drawings, but that was unmistakably him. In awe, he turned the page, greeted once again by drawings of him, bigger this time. You'd sketched his face while he was cooking, clearly oblivious to your staring. He felt himself freeze. That was him. It was clear there was a lot of time put into this. Just how long were you staring at him? He thought you were drawing the food, not him! He felt himself blush, embarrassed by the revelation. Keen to see more he continued through the book, seeing sketches of only him. You'd sketched his hands, his eyes, so many little drawings of his face. There were even sketches from his sparring sessions on the deck. These. These were all him? He felt a bit lightheaded. When he made it to the last used page he stopped. There was a rather intricate drawing of him smoking, leaning over the Merry's bannister. It left him breathless. There was so much detail.
"Uh." Was all he managed to force out.
You blanched. "Oh! I'm sorry, I've weirded you out. I..." He saw you reach out to take the book back, his grip tightening.
"I like drawing you, wanna make sure I get your features right." You muttered. Sanji tore his face away from the page when he heard you take a shaky breath in. He looked up and jolted at the tears in your eyes.
"(Name), I-"
"I'm sorry. It's really creepy right? I'll stop, I promise."
"These are all me?" He managed dumbly. You cringed. He felt his heart thumping loudly.
"Yeah...That's your book."
"Do the others?"
You shook your head, tears starting to fall. "Just you. It's weird, I know-"
"I love it." He breathed out.
"What?"
Sanji stared up at you, closing the book with care, and setting it to the side. He grabbed your trembling hands, trying to coax you down to his level. You followed, dropping to your knees.
"It's beautiful love. You've made me look beautiful."
"You are beautiful." You muttered.
Sanji couldn't take it anymore, he pulled you flush against him. You squeaked, falling into his chest. His arms came up to hug you tightly.
"I'm the luckiest man in all the seas." He smiled. That managed a laugh out of you. You peeked up at him, eyes wide and cheeks tear-stained. "I was really jealous when I saw you drew everyone else. Don't know how I never caught you drawing me."
"I'm sneaky." You joked, earning a laugh. You snuggled against him.
"Can I kiss you?"
Your eyes shot back up to him, choking on your own spit, all you could manage was a a strangled, "What?"
"Wanna reward my little artist. So can I kiss you?" Sanji spoke as if he was talking about the weather. You nodded dumbly.
Wasting absolutely no time, Sanji caressed your face, softly. He started softly, before crushing his lips to yours. You squeaked happily, moving to try and get closer. Your lips moved in tandem, sharing kiss after kiss. You felt electricity shudder down your spine, sweet sighs escaping. Sanji felt like he was on cloud nine, committing all of you to memory, tracing your lips as if he needed to map it to mind.
Unfortunately you needed to breathe, and you pulled back, eyes sparkling. You panted lightly, trying desperately to catch your breath. Sanji took in how flushed you look, lips swollen from his attack. You were grinning wildly at him.
"Wow." You breathed. Sanji laughed. "You're really good."
Sanji mulled over your words for a second, before throwing caution to the wind. Fuck it, he got to kiss you, he supposed anything else right now was a bonus. "Am I your good boy?"
What Sanji didn't take into account is how his flirty demeanour can come across as purely teasing. You groaned beneath him. Sanji got his hopes up at the sound. but you pointedly looked away.
"Sorry about that. I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable, it seemed funny at the time."
Sanji's heart fell out of his ass. Ow. But you had kissed him?
"I'm not?"
"What?" You looked at him inquisitively, taking in how hard he tried to hide his dejection behind that smile. You brightened, the puzzle clicking together. "Wait. You like that?"
"No!" Sanji lied. He didn't like the cheeky grin you were now sporting, it always spelt bad news for him.
"Oho I think you do. That's why you were being weird! You were jealous that I called Luffy a good boy?! I thought it was because I hugged you. You like me, that's so cute."
"You literally have a sketchbook dedicated to me."
You giggled. "No, we're past that. You like being called a good boy?"
"I like being called your good boy." He muttered. You giggled, causing him to further frown. Soon, he felt your soft hands on his cheeks.
"Ah, you really are so cute. My heart. Kiss me again good boy?"
"Stop teasing me." Sanji pouted, cheeks red. You laughed.
"Nuh-uh! You tease me constantly, I finally have some ammunition of my own! Wait until you have to put up with me calling you pretty boy."
You peppered his face with kisses before finally planting a smooch on his lips. Sanji grinned into the kiss, pulling you further into his lap. You nipped at his lower lip. He obliged, parting his lips for you to attack. Sanji sighed as you thrust your tongue into his mouth. Gods, he could die now and be happy.
You were in absolute heaven. If you'd known Sanji would be this receptive, you would have kissed him months ago. And his blush? Gods, you could grow addicted to flustering him. Pulling back with a wet smack, you stared down at him, taking in how beautiful he looked under you. With a delicate hand you lightly cradled his chin.
"Would you be a good boy and model for me someday?"
Sanji cocked an eyebrow. "We that far ahead are we?"
You laughed at his hidden meaning. "I meant just letting me draw you properly, but I wouldn't say no to staring at your naked body."
Sanji blushed, his ears burning and mind racing. He covered it up with a cough. "Are you going to be like that from now on? What happened to my cute little artist?"
Your grin was more of a smirk, Sanji mused. He liked when your mischievous side came out. The idea that this would be a regular occurrence made him dizzy. You kissed his cheek. "Now that I know you like me I have no need to be shy. You're stuck with me."
"And what a shame that is." Sanji smiled, resting his head on your shoulder. You laughed.
You really could get used to this.

Stagedoor Sparks! (Matthew Patel x Reader) ✨🔥🔱
AN: OH MY GOODNESS YOU GUYS WERE FEELING THIS ONE OKAY-
I’m so glad to see people hyped up for my pathetic pirate boy. Please enjoy and if this goes well I may turn it into a series lol
We’ve got a gender neutral reader, idiots in love, I saw someone say pathetic x pathetic and YES, theater kid lingo, mild swearing, and your favorite cutie pie. ⚠️Also, this is heavily based on Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, so spoiler warnings for that if you haven’t seen it! ⚠️ Enjoy!
Tumblr media
“Scott Pilgrim’s Precious Little Musical”, was what the bright lights of the massive sign on your local theater boasted. Recently, your coworker Julie had been telling you about the ridiculous life of this ‘Scott Pilgrim’, ranting about the conga line of characters that filled his (frankly, pathetic sounding) existence. She had also alerted you to this… musical. A musical that had been written about his life.
You sighed to yourself and adjusted your bag. Making your way to the golden, elaborately designed doors, just barely dodging all the paparazzi (why was there so much paparazzi?), you somehow successfully made your way into the main lobby of the theatre. Ivory and gold filled your vision as you observed the plush red carpet that lined each of the three floors. You had visited this theater before, and it’s gorgeous grandeur never failed to amaze you.
Now, you did not at all care about this guy. Yes, you had been silently internalizing every minuscule part of this random guy’s daily shenanigans, but that was because you were being a good friend to Julie! This Scott guy seemed like a tool, and you weren't particularly interested in listening to a…?
You checked the playbill the usher had just handed you.
…THREE HOUR MUSICAL?!? You almost started laughing right there.
But anyways, you weren’t here for this Scott guy.
You were here for musical theater. You had always been drawn to the fantastical world of lights and costumes and music. Plus, this was a community production with actors from Toronto, and you were always happy to support your local theater kids.
As you finally made your way to your seat, you sat down in the plush red chairs and opened your playbill to the cast section. You didn’t see any names you recognized, but one stood out to you.
Matthew Patel - Scott Pilgrim
Obviously, Scott Pilgrim was the lead role, but what really caught your attention was the picture attached to the name. Matthew Patel, you respectfully observed, was mad cute.
The lights suddenly began to dim and you settled in for whatever was in store, keeping a keen eye out for this ‘Matthew Patel’.
~~~ Holy shit, this is the best thing you’ve ever seen.
From the moment Matthew Patel walked onstage, you were absolutely smitten. He wore a bright orange wig that clashed horrendously with his dark skin, and an oversized jacket, but he was the hottest thing you had ever seen. Also, holy shit, Matthew Patel could sing. From the first line, you were completely enraptured by his high tenor belting. As you watched him onstage, you saw literal sparks in his eyes, his excitement and passion for the stage radiating off of him.
At the curtain call, you stood and enthusiastically clapped for each of the cast members, but hooped and hollered for Matthew especially. Even though you knew he couldn’t see you from the stage, you found yourself blushing at the thought of him looking at you.
That’s when it hit you: You’ve gotta book it to stage door to meet this guy.
~~~ Matthew Patel was completely exhausted. As the curtains flew closed, he sighed and turned around to smile at his cast mates. Although he was drained by his performance, he always took this opportunity at the end of a show to look to his fellow caste mates.
And hopefully someone would invite him with their group to an after show dinner.
He walked through the crowd, giving pats on the back and thumbs ups as he made his way to his dressing room. Lots of smiles, lots of “great job!”’s but… no invitations.
Slamming the door to his room he quickly took of his wig and put on his regular clothes, deciding that he would take off his stage makeup at home (aka the makeup he regularly wore but no one cared enough to know that). His room had a window where he could look down at the stagedoor line, the line that had been non-existent since opening night. He didn’t take it personally, since this musical was for a very specific audience of people and he understood that outside of them, no one knew or cared who Scott Pilgrim was. But still, he was onstage. He was singing and dancing and his art was being celebrated. Yes, he was lonely, still, but life wasn’t too bad right now.
As he did every day, he quickly glanced out his window to check for audience members at stage door and, sure enough, no one-
Wait-
Someone was there?
He did a double take and physically walked to the window, his hands placed against the glass and his now quickening breath creating a fog.
SOMEONE WAS THERE??!?!?
From high up in his dressing room, he saw a small figure holding the bright red playbill of his show. They seemed to be moving back and forth on their feet, bouncing excitedly. From so high up he couldn’t see their expression, but could make out what he thought was a smile.
He broke out into a wide smile. Running around his room, gathering his things and throwing them into his backpack, only one thought raced through his mind: He had to get down there.
~~~ As you waited, the cold Toronto air stung against your flushed cheeks. You were still high on endorphins from the show, the songs already worming their way into your head as you tapped your feet in anticipation.
Suddenly, and without warning, a man burst out of the dark black door you were waiting out, out of breath and panting. He was so hellbent on running out the door that he ran right into you, knocking you over!
“AH-“, you both made the same sound as you fell, the man directly on top of you.
“Oh- apologies, ma’am, I uh-“
You would have said a number of rude things to this man but, seeing his face, you were starstruck.
“Matthew Patel?”
His eyes widened in shock. Carefully, he got off of you and onto his knee in front of you. Gently, he took your hand and pulled you up, the both of you now back on your feet.
“You know me?”
You couldn’t help but notice the faint blush on his cheeks.
“Of course! Well- I mean, you know, you’re Scott Pilgrim! You were absolutely incredible up there, just amazing! My jaw was the floor the whole time! I mean, your voice and your dancing and the fight scenes-“
As you rambled on and on, Matthew was unable to snap himself out of the trance you had put him in. Visually, you were breathtaking, so much so he didn’t know how he had ever found anyone else attractive. But more so, you were genuinely complimenting him. He was never complimented on his theater work. He’d get the rare one from his cast mates, but never an outside fan.
Noticing his silence, you suddenly stopped talking.
“Sorry, I don’t mean to rant, it’s just- one theater kid to another, you were so amazing.”
He shook his head at your apology. “No, don’t be sorry. You’re- you’re very kind. Thank you. And I’m sorry again for… running you over.”
You laughed- a leitmotif to rival Sondheims to Matthew’s ears- and looked at him with a goofy grin.
“Would you sign my playbill?”
“Would you like to have dinner tonight?”
The two of you spoke at the same time, and one’s question made the other blush furiously. Matthew’s entire body tensed in embarrassment that he had been bold enough to ask you out like this, not even knowing your name.
You were absolutely over the moon.
“I- uh- yes. Yes, I would love to.”
Your smile got impossibly wider, and the sparks in Matthew’s eyes that you had noted during his performance returned. With a huge grin, he reached out his hand to take your playbill. You handed it to him and a marker appeared in his other hand as he quickly scribbled his signature.
“What’s your name?”
You told him and his blush deepened. He turned back to the playbill and scribbled a bit more, then handed it to you. You squeaked in excitement and looked at what he had written.
To my biggest fan,
(Y/N)
Looking back up at him, you were certain this was the start of something new.
“So… do you like Italian?”
~~~ HEY MATTHEW FANS TAKE THIS FIC! GO, FETCH! This’ll make a lot more sense if you like musicals, so have fun! Like I said at the start, if y’all want more and I’m feeling up to it, I’ll write more! Happy holidays, folks!

Chapter 2 >>> Chapter 3
Tumblr media
Your head is lolling off to the side, eyes growing heavy with the soft swaying of the ship in the waves. The only thing that's keeping you awake is the smell of fish lingering in the netting. Sniffing, you feel yourself succumbing to sleep.
You jolt awake when the fishing net jostles then slowly raises up, there's a mechanical whirring from the deck. The sun is peeking from the horizon, bathing you in blue.
“No, no, no!” Holding onto the net, you hold on for dear life. You just hope the sailors are friendly enough to let you on board until they dock to the nearest land.
Your only sanctuary floats above the deck, overlooking every crew moving about. Looking below, you spot their rugged clothing *They don't look like sailors. Maybe they're not wearing their blue uniform? It's casual Friday perhaps?
“Drop the bloody thing!” Someone yells from below, you and the net fall from a height that you're sure broke something in you.
With your eyes shut, you hit the deck with a splattering sound. Thankfully you land on the pile of fish, squishing a sizable chunk on the wood; decorating their ship with fish guts. Your butt hurts from the impact, you're for sure going to be picking out fish bones embedded in your skin.
Someone gasps loudly next to you. Hearing frantic slashing sounds, you shield your face from the shiny knife. Before you know it, you're free from the tangles on the net, baring yourself to the entire crew.
“Fuckin' hell! It's a mermaid!” A man with long blonde hair tied into a bun excitedly yells out.
You look at him with wide eyes, the large black flag hangs above him, the skeleton of a spider painted on the flag dances in the wind.
They're not from the royal navy.
Running footsteps come towards you, then they stop. You watch as twenty or so people circle around your fallen form. You instinctively cover yourself with the net. Their faces morph from surprise to amusement. Some laugh, some roll their eyes in annoyance.
A man with glasses slaps the blonde upside his head. “You idiot! Does she look like a fuckin’ mermaid to you?” he points at your legs that are clearly not fins.
The blonde looks disappointed, “Man, I thought my dream came true”
“Looks like we've got a stowaway!” They sneer and jeer, looking down at you, leaning their scarred faces close to your face. Too close.
“Get off me!” You push one away. Taking a fish from the ground to defend yourself. Throwing it directly at his eyepatch. They laugh louder at your expense.
“She's a fighter too! Cap’n! Look at what the fish dragged in!” A man with a peg leg, calls.
With heaving breaths you watch as a large man comes down from the steps of the quarter deck. His heavy footfalls quieting the roaring laughter immediately, his arms are as big as your head, tattoos decorating every inch of his ivory skin. His big bushy beard moves as he spits on the deck. Your eyes flick to his tree trunk like waist, his gun and cutlass glinting in the barely rising sun.
He huffs, smoke comes out of his nostrils. His eyes stare you down and you visibly shrink.
“C’mon, big man, bloody move it” a slender hand grabs the man's large shoulder, moving him away to reveal a tall, slim figure. He smiles once he takes you in. “What do we have ‘ere?”
“A stowaway, Cap’n” the one with glasses informs him. “Got into the fishing net”
He saunters over to you, heavy boots thudding against the wood. The metals hanging from his clothes are swinging and clashing as he moves. The crowd parts for him. His hands are in his leather vest, he looks at you like he's found buried treasure. His grey eyes are twinkling in the blue light, a smirk playing on his pierced lips.
You grab your necklace for comfort, heart sinking to your stomach, the golden chain is nowhere to be found. You pat around your neck and blouse. Nothing. You're alone.
“Thought ol’ Jamesy ‘ere found us a mermaid” he bends at the waist, giving you a full view of his chiselled face. His eyes are shining with amusement.
You recognize his face from all the wanted posters you've seen around different towns while travelling. If the circumstances were different you'd say the painting didn't capture him right; how his eyes look at you with hidden apprehensiveness, yet there's something dangerous in them, something that could spell your doom.
Your fear increases tenfold when you roam your eyes around the different faces watching you. There's recognition in some of them, some more than others, their bounties you've seen on their respective posters appear above their heads; each in increasing numbers.
“Aye, thought so too” ‘Jamesy’ mumbles dejectedly.
His voice shakes you out of your fear laden stupor, but it's still there, still in your quaking heart and sweaty palms.
“Y’know, we don't take too kindly to stowaways.” Hobie’s threat makes you jump in your skin.
“I heard you're not kind to anybody” you grit your teeth.
You're facing him head on, despite your heart pumping loudly against your ribcage when you get a glimpse of his twin blunderbusses strapped to his waist.
A smile spreads on his face, eyes crinkling in the corners. “Hear that lads? We're proper famous!” he leans away,
They all guffaw, snickering among the crowd. A blonde with chopped hair and pink highlights push through the audience. She clicks her tongue, sleep clinging to her lashes.
“What's all this, Hobie?”
“A stowaway, Gwendy. You remember what we do to stowaways?”
‘Gwendy’ rolls her eyes. “I'm too tired for this,” she sighs. “Let's hear her side before we push her off, yeah?”
Push me off?! Your eyes are widely roaming around the strangers, pleading for an ounce of mercy.
“Be my guest” He slides to the side, gesturing towards you.
The blonde stares at you, waiting for some explanation. You can't help but think you remember her from somewhere but you're drawing a blank. Swallowing a lump in your throat, the fishy smell and the numerous eyes on you turns your stomach inside out.
“I was–” the large man you thought was the captain stares daggers at you. “It was an accident, really. You see, I was incredibly drunk” you try to stop the shaking in your voice to sound more convincing. “And I thought I was going home, truly.”
“You thought a fishing net was your home?” the entire crew laughs rambunctiously.
Hobie observes you from the side, leaning on the bannister so casually.
“Maybe we should just turn around and bring her home. That'll be okay, right?” A teenager with curly hair and golden bangles on his wrists pipes up from the side.
You think of the man waiting for you at the docks. You'd rather be fed to the sharks.
“Yeah, 'm sure she'd like that, won't you, scuttlebutt?” The captain smirks at you, there's a knowing look on his face. “Unless you don't want to go home? I don't see why we can't just drop you off.”
He moves closer to you, squatting down to face you. “Or she doesn't want to go home, judging from the go bag, this isn't some little drunk accident.” you can feel your pulse trying to escape. His eyes never leave yours. “Sure you smell like fish but I don't smell any liquor on those pretty lips of yours.” Hobie tilts his head, smiling mischievously. “You're running from someone, aren't you?”
You glare at him despite the fear crawling up your neck.
He nods, “Yeah, you are. We'd rather not be involved with whatever you've got goin' on.” his face turns serious, not even a ghost of a smile. “Finn”
With one call, the giant man takes you by the shoulders, standing you back to your shaky feet. You squirm, doing your best to push him off, but it's no use, he's too strong.
“Sorry to see you go so soon but I've got my entire crew to worry ‘bout.” he says softly.
You scoff, spitting venom. “The only thing you pirates care about is treasure and your next mark.”
With one last fight, you stomp on the man's boot clad foot, headbutting him in quick succession. They hoot and holler as your vision swirls.
Your act of defiance didn't even make the man flinch, he grunts, narrowing his eyes at you. Hobie's lackey turns you around to face the sea and the entrance to your death. Looking over your shoulder, you see him raise his thick eyebrow at you in mild annoyance.
“She's a feisty one, Hobie, you sure we can't let her stay? I'll take good care of her” A tall ravenette coos at you, staring directly at you with her dark eyes.
“I agree with Hobie, she might bring trouble” Another teenager comments, he crosses his arms, his eyes stare at you with remorse.
The man pushes you towards the open side of the ship where a singular wooden plank hangs precariously. The corner of the railing hits the small of your back. Your bag falls loudly on the deck, but you've got bigger problems right now than the sparse savings you've hidden inside.
“Wait!” You swallow your pride, it's better than drowning in the cold salty waters. “Please I'll do anything to stay or– or you can drop me off to the nearest land! Just–!” Finn pushes you again, your feet shuffle to fit the thin wood. The wind picks up, whipping at you wildly. The waves crash harshly on the side of the ship.
The vertigo makes you dizzy.
“Please! I can't–!”
Finn unsheathes his cutlass, pointing it at your heaving chest. You feel the sharp tip draw blood. He pushes and pushes until you're on the very edge of the plank. You struggle to find your balance while the wind blows rapidly, it stings your eyes, tears forming in them.
They all watch, some are grinning ear to ear like it's the best theatre show they've seen. The others are looking away or staring at their feet. Hobie looks on, posture straight, knuckles tight on his side.
“I can't swim–!” With one last push from the sharp sword, you fall.
Just above you, the pirates run towards the bannister to watch you fall in the water with a large splash.
Your back is stinging from the impact of the water, head pounding against your skull. The cold is unbearable like needles pricking your skin. You try to paddle up despite your thick clothes bringing you further down in the dark abyss. The dim light acts as your guide to the surface but it doesn't seem like your body is moving, you're quickly losing air. Bubbles escape from your lips, the salt blurs your vision.
Desperately with one kick, you feel the air from your lungs empty out, legs numb, hands reaching out towards the surface.
You choke on the salty water.
Her smiling face emerges from the darkness, now you know you've drowned. The only reason she would want you back is in death.
There's a muffled splash, a warm hand reaching for your cold ones. An unfamiliar arm snakes around your waist, bringing you up to the surface. They Frantically kick up, you feel a feather light touch on your freezing cheeks.
“Oi!” A muffled voice says. “Oi! Don't make me do mouth to mouth!” His voice gets clearer, he shakes your head, you feel calloused fingers on your skin then a breath fanning against your lips.
You splutter out, expelling water from your lungs with a choke. Holding to the nearest, steady thing, you grasp onto what feels like strong shoulders. Beneath your shaking fingers you feel raised scars.
“There you go, let it out, scuttlebutt” he pats your back as you continue to cough out. Your nails dig into his bare skin, he doesn't seem to mind. “Good on you for not makin’ me do mouth to mouth, huh?”
You wheeze out. “You fucker”
“What?”
“I said, you fucker!” Pushing him away, you sink back into the water, you panic once again.
Hobie grabs your wrist with one hand to pull you up like freshly caught fish. You glare at him through wet lashes.
“I saved your life and you're callin' me fucker?” You want to smack the smirk off his face.
“I almost drowned because of you!”
“Yeah, but that doesn't matter now because I saved your land loving arse! Who at this age can't swim anyway?!”
“Me, you bitch!” you try to kick him underwater.
“Hey, do you want to catch hyperthermia or what?” Gwendy asks from the lowered dinghy, her foot is resting on the edge casually, hand on her chin and a pierced eyebrow raised questioningly at you and Hobie who splashes water directly at your face.
With some help, you dog paddle to the boat. The smiling teenager helps you up, you feel like a ton of bricks with your thick clothes drenched.
“Here,” he takes his coat to place it around your shivering shoulders. “I'm Pavitr by the way, you okay?”
Pavitr tries to rub your shoulders for extra warmth but you flinch back, hugging the coat tighter around you.
“I'm fine, thank you, Pavitr”
The blonde pipes up, “I'm Gwen”
You nod, good thing you haven't called her ‘Gwendy’ yet.
“You needed the bath anyway, fish girl” Hobie scoffs from the other side of the boat.
You glare at him, huddled to yourself in the corner of the raising boat. The squeaking from the pulley makes you hold onto the side tighter, just in case it fails and drops you back down in the freezing water.
Hobie chuckles, water drips off his bare chest, glittering under the peaking sun. You look away with a roll of your eyes.
“Gwen, give her something warm to eat, yeah? And some clothes.”
“I was about to do that anyway”
The boat reaches back up, the crew secures the rope on the pulley with a grunt.
Hobie drops down on the deck first, he offers his hand that you huff at. Ignoring his help, you step on to the ship with shaky legs.
“Sea legs, you have to get used to it or the next two weeks for you would be hell.”
“What?”
“‘m letting you on board until we reach land. Unfortunately for you that won't be for the next two weeks. After that we're even.”
“Look who's guilty for almost killing me” you stand toe to toe with him. The rest of the crew has either gotten bored or are watching you two squabble with a smile.
“Don't push your luck, fish girl or I'll make you walk the plank again” he challenges you with a sly smile.
“I have a name!”
The captain tilts his head, amused. “Yeah? Tell me then so I have something to write on your gravestone”
You point angrily at his tattooed chest, right on the inky drawing of a long legged spider. “It's Y/N, asshole!”
Gwen sighs, waving you off.
“Well, Y/N Asshole, keep that fire in you but don't let it burn down my ship or–”
“Or what?”
He stares at your eyes, swirling grey whirlpools threatening to pull you under. Hobie sighs, turning around abruptly, leaving you standing alone on the deck.
“Hey!” You call back, “or what huh?!”
He waves you off, “‘s too early for this shit, ‘m goin' back to sleep. Goodnight, fish girl!”
Change of plans: survive the next two weeks with an entire ship full of pirates or die drowning in the middle of the sea. That should be easy enough, right?

It's the 17th of March, so y'know what that means-
Tumblr media
Happy Saint Patrick's Day to you all! I know the majority of you probably don't celebrate, which is fair, BUT I decided I wanted to talk a little more about the country I was born and raised in- the Emerald Isles of Ireland!! :D
If you're just here for the art, well here ya go! However, if you want to learn more in a VERY long post:
Tumblr media
Just to start off, here's the Irish flag and the Ivory Coast flag! Wanted to add this because they can get easily mixed up (I got them muddled up a LOT when I was younger-)
Since it is Saint Patrick's Day, I should probably elaborate what that's about- what I've been taught in school is that Saint Patrick preached the Gospel to the Irish, one method including the shamrock to represent the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Of course, and the whole "he drove the snakes out of Ireland" but don't worry. There are still snakes in Ireland. And I'm pretty sure "snakes" is a metaphor anyway. And, turns out, he wasn't even originally from Ireland- he was British! Oh yeah, and he was kidnapped by pirates to become a slave when he was a teenager for 6 year s -
Tumblr media
Here are some stereotypes or the first things that pop into your mind when you think of "Ireland"- leprechauns, short gingers, "Top of the mornin' to ya" and our love for spuds and beer. And, to tell you some stuff about them too!
Leprechauns originally wore red! They pop up in fairy tales quite often too.
Ireland is second when it comes to having the highest percentage of gingers with 10%, with Scotland having 13%. As for being short, I reassure you, there are plenty of tall and/or lanky people around. (A lot of my teachers are like this-)
I've heard no one say this as a greeting. The only Irish person I can think of who does is Jacksepticeye. You might be more likely to hear "How's it going?" or "What's the crack?"
As for loving beer, we are one of the highest consumers for it, but there are many other higher consumers! Also, I don't know if this is a thing in America or not, but we tend to call them pubs. Bars are a bit more...fancy? I don't know how to describe the difference.
And for loving potatoes? Okay. This is probably true lol. Almost everyone I know likes potatoes (with some exceptions). And, of course, who can forget the Great Famine when blight destroyed the potato crop and killed around a million people- spuds were a huge source of food back then.
And now, for language! Here are some I'm used to hearing quite regularly (and use often, too!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another two that I want to add are more Cork exclusive, but saying "boy/girl" at the end of sentences and using "like" a lot is quite common (especially the like one- I say "like" all the time ;v;).
And now, Irish itself! Now, I'm not going to tell you anything major (I'm not a teacher) but I will try my best to explain a little!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Irish is not the main language of Ireland but in some particular areas (shown in the right image) there are regions called Gaeltacht districts which predominantly speak Irish. Their Irish would be a lot better than my school-knowledge based Irish :'D Another thing to add is that different provinces (the provinces shown in the middle image) have different versions, or pronunciations of some words. Being from the province of Munster, I've been taught the "Munster" pronunciations and words.
Tumblr media
So..."Tá mé éan sásta" would mean "I am a happy bird" :D
Tumblr media
I apologise for how messy my writing looks-
OKAY. ONE MORE THING I WANTED TO COVER IN THE IRISH LANGUAGE IS THE NAMES, because I've seen plenty of people online and in real life joking lightheartedly how hard Irish names are pronounced. So here are some Irish names!!
Saoirse - this one is brought up quite a bit- It can either be pronounced as "seer-sha" or "sair-sha"!
Róisín - "roh-sheen" !
Eoin - even I had a hard time pronouncing this when I was younger- it's pronounced as "owe-in" like "owing" but without the g!
Fódhla - I remember this appeared in the newspaper once and a family member was baffled by it- it's said as "foh-la" :]
Another I want to mention is Eilish- you probably know it thanks to Billie Eilish, which is pronounced as "eye-lish"- but it can also be pronounced as "eye-leesh"!
Last one, Sinéad- you may have seen this one once or twice as is pronounced "shin-aid" :D
And now, some more quick stuff!!
Musicians from Ireland!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On the left you have Hozier (love his music!! :D) and the right is the Cranberries!!
Some other Irish artists you may be familiar with are U2, Thin Lizzy, Westlife and Sinéad O' Connor!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some popular Irish snacks!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
crisps/chips!! (I love em both dearly)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
of course, how can I not bring up Irish bread: soda bread and blaas :D
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hot chicken rolls!! (seriously how are these not more popular elsewhere-) and spice bags!! (chips with spices, peppers. maybe chicken)
Animal wise, we haven't got anything too crazy, but we do have one of the largest breeds of dog, the Irish greyhound and the now extinct largest deer, the elk.
I think I'm beginning to run low on space, so I'll end it there!! If you're also Irish, free to add on facts/words!!
I don't usually say this but I would kinda appreciate reblogs since I felt like I put a bit more effort into this ;v;
So uh, yeah- Happy Saint Patrick's Day!! :D

Pirate! Hobie x fem! reader
In the famous words of Luffy (Iñaki) future pirate king, "A ship is also a home".
Inspired by Between the Devil and the Sea by @the-kr8tor
(Tossed draft for The Pirate Princess)
The piano echoes in your mind like an endless melody. Tapping your fingers against the edge of the crow’s nest like you would the ivory keys. You can remember the gold encrusted stars in the ceiling. The walls darker than the depths of the sea. How your heels clicked across a tiled floor that was so iridescent it was like you were dancing on glass.
Although you breathe in the salt from the body of water below, you taste something sweet on your tongue as you reminisce. It isn’t sad, just bittersweet.
“Interupting you am I?”
Laughter bubbles out of your lips as you feel a familiar set of arms wrap around your waist. Hobie burying his nose into the crook of your neck. You never grow tired of the warm fuzzy feeling his presence brings you and you can’t help but try to pull him closer so he’s flush against your back.
“Woah!” Hobie chuckles,“a bit early for that isn’t it love?”
You click your tongue. Rolling your eyes as you try to jab his side with your elbow. “Oh hush! You’ve officially ruined the moment.”
He snickers, easily catching your arm before twisting you around to face him. “Officially? What are we, bloody marines?”
The chatter from the crew below helps bring you back to reality. Your new reality. One you wouldn’t trade for the world.
Crossing your arms across your chest you lean against the wall of the crow’s nest. Arching a brow at him as you decide to play along. “At least the marines know what to do when a beautiful woman falls into their lap.”
His grin widens into a smirk you know all to well and you’re already dreading he’ll say next.
“But do they know how to keep their woman satisfied? Hm?” He leans forward. Eyes flicking between your lips and gaze. “Like I do?”
Of course, like the gullible woman you are, you let your eyes flutter shut. You’re confused until you hear him giggle and you know you’ve been duped because when you open your eyes he’s looking down at you with that cheeky look on his face. It’s so infuriating but it apparently still has an affect on you anyway because you feel heat crawl up your cheeks.
You take this moment of loss to your self-esteem to admire his attire. A newly mended white blouse that’s cut to expose some of his chest. (You’ll have to thank Kamala for that later). Signature holster around his waist. Very casual compared to the thick leather coat he adorns when you go into battle.
Personally, you believe your crew has more style than a bird of paradise with how many trinkets and accessories they seem to find each time you dock the Mary Jane.
“Aww darling, c’mere,”he coos. ”You’re so cute when you get all pouty with me.”
You huff in annoyance as you try to keep him away. It’s obvious he’s pretending to struggle but you can’t bring yourself to care. He’s making loud kissy noises while you whine and push your palms against his chest. One on his exposed skin (Were you about to pass up that opportunity? I think not!) and the other on the cotton of his sleeve.
“No! What kind of Captain denies his navigator a kiss!?
He grunts,“The kind that will make up for it later! Now come here-”
You struggle for a moment longer before you hear someone call out to you. The two of you stop. Blinking at each other before Hobie let’s you slip out of his grasp. His hand on your lower back to keep you from leaning to far over the edge.
“Oh Robbie!” You cheerfully wave down. He’s nothing more than a speck of green but you always manage to hear him clearly.
“Mate,” Hobie yells,“we were kind of in the middle of something important.”
Said first mate scoffs at him before rolling his eyes. Not that you see any of this happen. You just know the man well enough. “Oh yes, so important…” He clears his throat before yelling back,“Riri’s messed with the gear again and I’m pretty sure we’re headed in the opposite direction.”
You can only watch as a tool is chucked in his direction. You’re assuming from inside Riri’s makeshift workshop. Wincing as it successful bonks him in the head. “It’s called renovating!”
You don’t know whether to laugh or cry.
“I’ll be right down!” Your boots scuffing against the wood as you make your way past Hobie to the ladder.
“Pray tell, where-” You squeak as you feel him tug you back into his chest. Stumbling not so gracefully after craning your neck up to see him. “-do you think, you’re going, without giving me my kiss?”
“I’m sorry,” you laugh,”but I have duties, Captain.” He preens at the title. Shifting you around in his arms like you would a rowdy pup. “If we want to reach port in the next six hours and you know, not die of starvation on this ship. I need to go.”
“I never told you not to.” He answers. Grinning as he tightens his hold on you. “But you have at least a minute to spare for your beloved, yes?”
You scrunch you nose, gently shaking your head as if scolding a child. A very greedy child that always seems to attach himself to you. It’s a wonder the crew hasn’t named him the ocean’s clingest sea urchin. “My beloved, yes, my captain…no,” you chuckle. “Come on Hobie, I promise you a kiss after supper and after I help Riri.”
He sighs dramatically before releasing you. His hands up in surrender as he backs away. “Fine fine. But I’m holding you to it eh? The second you’re done you come find me.”
“Aye Captain.” You salute. He watches as you hop down the ladder and after two or three steps you disappear. Once you’re out of earshot he lets out a dreamy sigh, slumps against the walls of the crow’s nest, and cranes his neck up to the sky.
“Oi, that means you too Hobart!” Robbie hisses. “Stop daydreaming a get down ere’!”
Hobie snorts, fixing his hat. “Alright, I’m comin’!”

A list of outrageous pirates?
She swaggers as though the waves still toss beneath her, though you've never once seen her leave this tavern. Still, her name rouses whispers and they say the ivory-handled revolver she carries once belonged to a king she wooed and then left. Her barnacle-encrusted hat is rumored to be from a stint as Davy Jones's wife - surely that's not true? But the grit in her voice when you start to raise the question makes it crumble on your lips like seaweed made brittle in the sun.
They're more at home in the rigging than anywhere else, and though they look youthful, it's been decades since they've been a cabin boy or deckhand whose job it is to furl sails. They've nary a hair on their body, but their freckles speak to their time in the sun. What is it they are trying to see over the edge of the horizon? What sends them climbing toward the sky?
His belly laugh is the first thing you notice about him. It's a marvel it can escape the forest of his brown, tangled beard. He'll spin you a tale about a treasure so grand, you know you'd sail after him to the ends of the earth, only to reveal it a lie. You find it difficult to be angry with him though - something in his voice makes you want to be in his good graces. Get the first mate drunk enough and he'll tell you the captain's the son of a siren, but that's the drink talking, isn't it?
This twin is tattooed from toe to scalp. She carries a bandolier of blades, says shot might fail if it gets wet but a knife never will. You want to know the story of her tattoos? Tough shit.
That twin covers himself, all except the eyes. Is it because he's as tattooed as his sister? He's quick with a word and quicker with a whip. You think it a strange choice of weapon until you see him on an enemy ship, snagging ankles and sending sailors careening into one another. His sister is a blur around him, rolling off his back to slash a man's throat.
It's not just a parrot on the shoulder for them. It's a practical menagerie following at their heels. They're scarred and bruised, and their teeth are as sharp as the foxes and stray cats that follow them as they walk the deck with bare feet. You've heard they lived in the jungle as a child, and one snarl suggests the rumors are true.
He carries a two-hander that he claims was stolen from a Viking tomb. You'd say he only carried it for clout if not for his muscular arms and back, which he puts on display at every opportunity. The salt in his hair and on his skin falls like snow when he walks, but he seems unbothered by its roughness. Whether swimming or fighting, he poses an intimidating presence.
Her arm ends at the elbow. She's quick to knock you down if you say anything untoward about it. As a helmsman, she's unparalleled - she says she hears the stars whisper. When she makes a prediction, you listen. No superstition that falls from her lips is untrue.
For someone so frequently at sea, they certainly delight in fire. You'd swear the flames rolled across their fingertips when they sat on watch - but no, it must have been a trick of the light. They carry sulfur matches in their pockets, and the captain warns them away from the powder. At first you think their eyebrows are burned off, but they're nearly pure white against pale skin.
He's never without a song. You've heard him whistling while he cuts down enemies, humming while he hauls ropes, drumming on the wheel when it's his turn at the helm. He finds it impossible to be still; you've never heard a sound like the howling screeches he made when clapped in chains.

Vinsmoke Sanji x Reader
Quote: "Fall in love without words."
My Dearest,
I could never tell stories as masterfully as you. You, with your beautiful white ivory keys and elegantly composed melodies. But sometimes, I like to think of myself as an artist. With words as my notes, stringing together the songs in my heart.
Yours Truly
---
When Vinsmoke Sanji first sees you he’s nothing but a boy pushed to the back of the kitchen watching through the small circular window on the door.
Chef Zeff always did get annoyed when Sanji didn’t pay the utmost attention to his cooking (which truthfully didn’t happen that often) but one could really only expect so much when it came to the attention span of a young boy. Children, much like the kind that Sanji had been at the time, were rather curious things especially when it came to things that they were told to ignore.
A restaurant on the seas is most certainly going to garner attention. The attention of the locals wanting to see the boat that has docked upon their shores; the attention of pirates in search for a meal upon the mischievous ocean; and the attention of marines curious about the newest big thing.
There was no shortage of different characters that decided to enter the restaurant.
Chef Zeff, being a former pirate, wasn’t the most keen on serving marines but even his own discomfort wasn’t enough to override his code or morale. Anyone hungry on his doorstep would be fed.
While marines did come by it wasn’t often that anyone of note actually came around. So of course a young Sanji’s curiosity would push him to the door separating the kitchen staff from the customers when someone of note did come around.
It was… a vice-admiral or something? Or at least that was what one of the serves had uttered out while running into the kitchen to inform Chef Zeff. And of course, Sanji hadn’t meant to ease drop but it was only common knowledge that one needed to have an attentive ear if they hoped to work in an active kitchen; and a kitchen upon the sea was no different.
He doesn’t notice you at first, though that might have to do with the fact that you’re trailing after two very tall and lanky fellows. The buffer of the two men wears a tacky white cape on his back with a dog shaped hat on his head. He seems awfully jovial, laughing loudly about something to the waiter as he takes his seat. The other man is dressed in a similar outfit only a little slimmer and with that same tacky white cape on his back. He’s much more modest as he follows the buffer fellow with a serious expression, seeming almost hesitant as he looks around.
It isn’t until both men have sat down does Sanji notice you.
And the first thing he notices happens to be how pretty you really are. With brilliantly bright eyes and a warm smile that you give to the waiter as he pushes your chair in for you.
His heart, for the first time, flutters.
You sit with your hands politely in your lap as you read over the restaurant menu. You’re awfully quiet with a calm expression on your face as you take a seat. You only speak when spoken to and your voice comes out as soft melodic notes.
You order the soup -which he made- and the fried rice.
This is, of course, not the only time his heart will flutter in such a way but it is the first and that has to count for something, right?
---
The second time Sanji sees you he doesn’t recognize you.
He’d gone out on a grocery run with Chef Zeff. Something about a special order for a specific ingredient that they didn’t have on hand which resulted in Sanji getting dragged out of the kitchen and into a small boat as the two of them sailed off towards whatever the heck the nearest Island happened to be.
It’s been maybe… five years since he’s last seen you? He’s not really sure. Keeping track of time has never been on the top of Sanji’s priorities. Not while he’s been busy learning the ways of the kitchen.
Both you and him have grown a lot in those five years. He’s no longer that boy pushed into the back of the kitchen. Sure, he’s still pretty gangly and lanky (stuck in that awkward phase between being a child and an adult) but he likes to think that he’s grown into his features pretty well. Or, at the very least, has learned to style himself much better than he had before. And yes, he’s still getting dragged around but he won’t always be!
You, on the other hand, seemed to have quickly graduated from the side of the two men that you had been following around earlier. You walk around the marketplace alone, with your hands behind your back like you’re an old woman, with a curious look. You’re also, Sanji notices, a lot prettier. He thinks that you look good with your hair pushed back and your lips tilted upwards in a warm smile as you listen to one of the shopkeepers attempt to sell you the product.
Sanji bets you’d be good at dancing. From the way you easily maneuver yourself through the bustling crowd to the way you easily jump up to grab something from the top shelf for a young boy. Your movements are smooth and fluid.
Honestly, it reminds Sanji a little of Chef Zeff though he isn’t all too sure why. Maybe it has something to do with the preciseness of your movements? That there’s no wasted movements or pointless actions. Be quickly brushes the idea off as there’s nothing about it that is of any particular interest to him.
While Chef Zeff is seemingly occupied with trying to negotiate the price of the ingredient, Sanji thinks that now is a better time than ever to make his move. His first instinct is to make his way over to you and lay on the charm but is stopped as Zeff quickly grabs onto the back of his shirt before smacking him on the back of the head lightly. Sanji pouts in response but knows better than to make a scene. He’d actually gotten off rather easily considering that he’d usually get a kick to the head with Chef Zeff’s wooden leg seemingly only spared because of the presence of other people.
Besides, there will be plenty of other beautiful girls that he’ll see in his life.
It isn’t until years later that he realises that you were that same young girl from years ago.
---
The third time Sanji sees you he’s determined to speak to you.
He doesn’t.
Though, not for lack of trying.
It’s a usual grocery run that Sanji’s gone on when he notices you from a distance. A few of the sue-chefs had been selected to go into town and Sanji had tagged along because of a few things (clothes mostly) that he wanted to pick up and didn’t trust anyone else with getting for him. It was mostly because he didn’t want to inconvenience his fellow chefs with such mundane tasks but that was something that he’d never admit to them unless at gunpoint. And even then it was still up for debate.
He thinks about calling out to you but thinks that that would probably make you run away from him instead of go towards him. For one, he’s a stranger to you and secondly, you’re walking around the streets late at night by yourself. Any woman is bound to run when a strange man approaches you.
You’re carrying a bundle of grocery bags in your hand as you head where Sanji assumes to be your home.
His second thought is to approach you and ask if you need help bringing your groceries home. But then again that would probably come off as creepy. Once again, because the two of you are strangers it isn’t likely that you’ll take the news very well.
Worse case scenario, you run away screaming and calling him a creep.
Best case scenario, you politely turn him down and never speak to him again.
He’s pretty sure he ends up as a creep regardless of the scenario so decides that it’s probably best to avoid that route all together.
The third option is to make a scenario where you bump into him. Maybe he would knock something down and then save you before it can hit you over the head. Or maybe he could arrange the terrain so that you trip and then he can catch you in his arms before you fall over making him look like a charming prince.
No.
That feels wrong too.
And it’s definitely morally wrong on almost every front. Not just does it involve deception but it would also take advantage of you after he put you into a certain kind of situation. Besides, he can already hear Chef Zeff scolding him for coming up with such a stupid idea in the first place.
Sanji isn’t a slimy kind of guy and in fact prides himself as someone who protects women from those kinds of men. Not go and become one of those men himself, despite the fact that you happen to be the prettiest girl he’s ever seen.
So, ultimately, Sanji ends up not talking to you. The right situation just didn’t seem to appear. No amount of hoping and praying will just suddenly make a situation appear where Sanji doesn’t come off as a creepy weirdo so he ends up just watching. Okay, even watching feels creepy now - which is how Sanji ends up making his way back to the other chefs, sullen and downtrodden, without the items he left to buy, and without having spoken a single word to you.
---
The fourth time Sanji sees you is when he realises that he’s absolutely smitten. Head over heels in love with the girl that’s haunted his dreams for years. By then you’re a fully grown woman and he’s a dashing young man. Or at least he considers himself a dashing young man. The views of his crewmates (which absolutely don’t bother him at all) would most certainly beg to differ.
You’re so much prettier than you had been back when the two of you were still gangly teens and certainly much prettier than you had been when the two of you were kids just beginning to find your places in this world.
You’re dressed in a pretty outfit, loose fitting and breezy. Not something usually seen on women that traverse the seven seas. Sanji thinks that the contrast makes you stand out amongst all the other beautiful women he’s seen.
There’s a camera around your neck and a book strapped to your side as you follow Sanji’s hyperactive captain around. He practically drags you along by the wrist and Sanji uncharacteristically finds himself unable to approach and speak to you. The words get caught in his throat before he can even think to find them.
To Sanji’s surprise, you keep up with his hyperactive captain well. There’s a calm look on your face and an elegance to your movements that he recognizes from before. You don’t even seem to stumble over your own feet as you make your way through the streets of the city.
From Sanji’s own experience, he knows that his captain isn’t the most gentle person. Especially when it comes to the safety and health of others. His heart’s in the right place just… not always his mind.
When your eyes meet with Sanji’s he thinks that his heart stops beating momentarily.
You smile so prettily and softly that Sanji literally falls on his feet as the words get caught in his throat.
That’s the kind of smile that Sanji’s been dreaming about for years.
The kind that he can imagine waking up to every morning.
Sanji thinks that if that’s the last thing he ever sees he’ll die happy. That’s just the kind of smile you have. How pretty you seem to him.
His heart flutters in his chest dramatically.
And… oh.
Fall in love without words.

Him: A better question is how long will you love me.

Nine TSM Lutes
Tumblr media
So your medieval sims want to be Bards and Jesters? Then they will need a lute. The Sims Medieval Luthier can now offer you a wide range of lutes for all pouches: from the old, worn Lute to the Jeweled and Gilded Watcher's Lute, the natural choice for Royal Sims. My personal fav must be the Tredonian Ivory Lute.
Tumblr media
The Lutes are actually guitars, for now. There may be a mod coming in the future with a Lute Skill. Talks are going on with the clever @janesimsten on this matter. They are all base game compatible.
The Pirate Lute, Just Lute, and the Bard's Lute has been shared before - as these are updated with posh new stands (no air floating!) and better textures, delete the old files and use these instead.
Do not hesitate! Start working on your entertainer skills TODAY! And, as we say in Sweden. Happy CONTINUING Winterfest!
(Oh and I will make dance versions ("stereos") of them too. Sims love to dance. A pity they can't do that to actual LIVE sim musicians.)

Walk The Plank (KHJ x fem reader)

Chapter 18: Outro: Long Journey
You had grown up hearing tales about the infamous pirate crew ATEEZ—the fearless, power-hungry men that roamed the seas in search of the most valuable treasure they could lay their hands on. You almost didn’t believe the stories your mother had told you as a child...not until you wound up on their ship
Warnings for this chapter: Depictions of weapons. That's it :)
A/N: I'm going to try not to get emotional...but this is the FINAL CHAPTER!! I am incredibly grateful to all of you who have read, reblogged, or commented on this story. You have brought me so much joy while writing this! :) I wanted to end this on an open note, so that the reader is introduced to a new adventure. New stories are coming in the future, and now that I have declared myself an english major, I can hopefully improve a lot. Love you all! :)

Chapter 18: Outro: Long Journey
Early this morning, the ship had changed course towards your homeland, Utopia.
You and Hongjoong had a rather lengthy discussion, coming to the consensus that you should see your parents and let them know you're alright. Despite the captain's distaste for your father, he is willing to forgive him...especially now that he's in love with his daughter. And with the Cromer being gone, the map your father had stolen from Hongjoong is no longer useful in the grand scheme of things anyways.
You have many feelings about returning home. Your parents are unaware that you are not being held against your will since you were unexpectedly taken from your father's ship. You never did get the chance to write to them. You imagine your mother would be overwhelmed with joy at your safe return, as well as delighted that you've found where you belong. Your father, on the other hand, is a different story. You cannot imagine that he would be delighted when you tell him you plan to stay with ATEEZ. He had plans for your life that you never quite wanted, and that was just how it had always been, being the daughter of a wealthy researcher and politician.
Therefore, you were content with parting from the things you had left behind. Living in Utopia felt like an entirely different lifetime, and you were at peace with that. This ship has become your new home, and you wish to go on many future adventures with your crew. With Hongjoong. You hope your family can understand that.
You let your mind wander as you rummage through your chest of clothes. You pull out an ivory dress, recalling that Hongjoong was wearing a coat of the same color earlier. You carefully change into the pretty garment, smoothing down the fabric of the skirt with delicate fingers before taking some time to tend to your hair.
As you finish and tidy up, you're about to close the chest when a sparkle catches your eye. You push some fabric to the side, revealing two shiny items: the pearl necklace Wooyoung had given you, and the knife San had given you. They glisten in the low light as if speaking to you. You smile, picking up the pearls and fastening them around your neck before shutting the chest with a satisfied sigh.
When you arrive to the main deck, Seonghwa's smile is perhaps even brighter than the sun. He comments on how lovely it is to see you so radiant and well-rested. And it is not just Seonghwa—every crew member's smile seems a little bit wider after you bid them a hello...even Mingi's. It's quite pleasing to think the others missed your presence as much as you missed theirs.
At this time, San and Wooyoung have abandoned their posts, finding excuses to chat with you about your time away from them.
"There's our angel," Wooyoung says, knowing no personal space as he arrives at your side.
"Woo—"
"Looking lovelier than ever." He sighs. "So, I hear the other Sector Ones are nothing like ours, aye?" He must have overheard you talking to Hongjoong at some point.
"Both of them were unlike anything I have ever seen," you reply.
"And we are outlaws there?" San asks.
Wooyoung laughs. "O' course we are. We're us! And Miss Y/N here is an outlaw, too. Destined to be a pirate."
You roll your eyes at him. "I am not. I believe I was destined to meet you. Becoming a pirate was just something that happened after that." San gives you a sweet smile.
"I think so too, Y/N. Are you excited to return home?"
Just then, Mingi passes by, immediately scolding the boys. "Get back to work you two." He throws a bag of grains at San and he catches it with ease, setting it down and returning his full attention to you.
"More nervous, actually," you admit.
"Why?" Wooyoung presses. San raises a brow.
"You realize we took her from her father's ship?" Wooyoung starts up his usual loud laugh.
"Oh, yeah. But she actually likes it here," he retorts, the smirk on his face growing. "Right, Y/N?"
"Yes, yes. I mostly enjoy San's company," you reply teasingly. Wooyoung looks at you with shock.
"What would Captain think when I tell him that?"
"Alright, alright, I enjoy your company too, Woo," you add, looking around and hoping your eyes don't land on Hongjoong. Wooyoung's smugness returns and you can't help but smile, rolling your eyes. You ruffle his hair and wink at San before heading off to see if the others need a hand.
"Wait, where are you going, Y/N?" San asks. He and Wooyoung trail behind you like ducklings.
"Well, if I am to be on this ship, I should be of use, yes?"
"You could help us move those." Wooyoung pouts, pointing to the bag of grains San had dropped mere seconds ago. You give him a look of amusement.
"San just picked up that bag as if it was full of feathers. I am helping elsewhere," you state, giving Wooyoung a kiss on the cheek since you know it will silence him. You spot Yunho and make your way toward him, turning around to steal one last glance at Wooyoung. He seems dazed as he grins and touches his cheek.
***
You sit at Hongjoong's desk peacefully, writing in detail your experiences with the Cromer. His journal of adventures has become like your diary as you fill its pages with your own accounts. When you finish detailing your experience with what the alternate Hongjoong had called a telephone, you set your pen down.
"Hongjoong?" you say, glancing up to see him pacing the cabin slowly, reading something you don't recognize.
"Yes, darling?" he answers, not lifting his gaze.
"Do you think that one day, this will be important?" He now looks up at you curiously. "That sometime far from now, someone will read this journal and learn what happened?"
"Why of course, sweetheart. Even in the present, it is important knowledge."
"I hope someone uses it to get rid of the Guardians one day." You sigh, picking up your pen again.
"I know someone will," Hongjoong assures. With a tight-lipped smile, you nod.
Your attention moves to the door as a crew member hastily enters the cabin. "Cap'n, there be another ship headed this way." You exchange a worried glance with Hongjoong before heading outside, the crew member holding out his telescope for the captain to take. You nervously tug at the hem of your sleeve as Hongjoong lifts the lens to his good eye.
"A Utopian ship," Hongjoong mumbles. "They do not show signs of moving out of our way. Prepare to fight," he demands. "But do not fire unless fired upon first. Inform the others...I will steer the ship."
Your head feels light. A Utopian ship? Could they be searching for you? Perhaps it's just a trade ship and you're overthinking. The news is relayed to the crew quickly, and everyone begins preparing their weapons and stations. Hongjoong takes your hand in his, bringing it to his lips to place a gentle kiss before heading towards the helm. "Stay close."
"I will be right back," you inform him. Before he can say anything, you're running down to the crew's cabin, halting in front of your clothing chest. You open it to find the knife you had ignored earlier.
Perfect.
Quickly snatching it up, you return to the main deck. Your grip on your weapon is strong as you run to assume your position next to the captain.
Seeing how rapidly the Utopian ship approaches, you squeeze the handle of your knife even tighter, every muscle in your body tense with fear. Hongjoong spins the wheel to the right and the ship leans in the new direction. You widen your stance to prevent yourself from falling over, Seonghwa eyeing you from nearby to make sure you're alright. The tension is thick, everyone on guard as they await any kind of signal. Holding your breath, you scan the approaching ship.
The hair on the back of your neck stands up when your gaze lands on a familiar face across the way, near the center of the ship. The grip on your knife loosens and all air feels like it's knocked out of your lungs as you lock eyes with a man you've known for a long time. His muscular build is apparent even in his military uniform, and his dark curls flow in the wind.
Before you is the man your parents had arranged your marriage with.
Bang Chan.

I'm once again thinking about how much Stede's clothing in S1 was like the battle jacket. Don't get me wrong, he loves his swishy, colourful and frilly clothes. He adores them. But some part of them was still a kind of weapon and specific costume for him.
He went from bland, relatively regulation browns, oranges and muted tones when he was unhappily married to brilliant jewelled shades and soft bright colours when he went out on the Revenge. But he still abided by the formal dresscodes: high-necked, waistcoats, cravats, every inch covered, a proper Gentleman.
I've commented before on the way his clothing pre-piracy makes him blend into the background and on his regional debut, he is clearly going as hard and fast as he can in the other direction to make sure people pay attention. Every other pirate is in practical and sensible clothes, ones that are hard-wearing and sturdy, and along comes Stede in an ivory suit, absolutely making sure he is seen and recognised after being invisible his entire life.
But also very specifically, he is weaponising his clothes and tells Lucius as much. "You're the one in charge", he says. He wants to be respected and appreciated, but he's playing for the wrong audience and gives him a short, sharp lesson about the world he's now part of: of recognising authority within the world. And especially coming from Jackie, who is the one pirate in the show who outdoes Stede's dress to impress aesthetic.
Throughout the course of the series, little by little, he starts losing some of those inhibitions. His jacket comes off and then his waistcoat. He starts wandering around in his nightwear. It only goes fully back on again when Calico Jack turns up. No loose cravats or shirtsleeves there.
Which is why it's so important that when he does confront Jack, he does it in the frilly nightgown. He makes his position clear as the captain of this ship and he does so in pink and frills and not a person on that ship, not even Jack, questions it.
This is what I find so exciting about the end of S1 and the promo stuff we've seen for S2. He's shed the gentleman trappings, all the luxuries and things, because he does know that he doesn't need that to be himself anymore. He's not just a fancy man playing at pirates anymore. He's there to do the work and find his man and he's a blank slate, practical and sensible and ready to go.
But if he sees a rather fab swishy coat... well, he's a pirate now! He's going to take it :D (And also, incidentally, who knew open collared shirts were so breathable! Yes, we'll have a snazzy little neckerchief, but tits out for days is the way to go)

Marooned: Chapter 24
Kid x FemReader x Killer
Warnings: The title is a lie. I just liked how it sounded.
Kiss the Cook
When you finished cutting one thing, Killer was quick to replace it with something else. He busied himself with prepping other ingredients, every so often hearing you curse under your breath when you cut yourself, followed by a faint yellow glow when you healed it. Impatient and short-tempered. It reminded him of someone else. When he passed by you to get ingredients or tools, he looked over your shoulder, easily, considering how short you were, to see how you were doing. "Slices are too big," he observed. "Kid won't eat his veggies if he can see them."
You snorted, "Are you serious?"
Killer nodded and put some more food in front of you for you to chop.
"How much more?" Normally, you wouldn't pout, but maybe if you looked cute enough, you could get out of it.
Indifferent to your pouting face, Killer replied, "Until I say you're done."
Your hand started to cramp and you shook it out. At least you could watch Killer, probably why you kept cutting yourself. He had a very muscular back, which you only got glimpses of when his golden waterfall of hair swished out of the way. Diligently, you tried to focus on cutting everything small enough. Eventually, you settled on daydreaming while you worked, thinking about yesterday's events, Kid, and what your next steps were. Unlike before, you weren't really in a rush to leave. If you stayed with the Kid Pirates, with how infamous they already were, marines would be after them. You wouldn't have to chase them down. There was no guarantee the two remaining would be interested in the Kid Pirates, unless they found out that you were among them, that is. They knew you were alive now. There was no doubt that was Giemsa's first call after he escaped.
"You're dismissed," Killer let you know, after cutting up the last carrot.
"How do you do all this every day by yourself?"
Killer took the knife from your hand, almost protectively, like he thought you would steal it too. "I'm better and faster than you."
You blinked. Blunt yet fair. Taking off the apron, you hung it on a hook.
Before you left, Killer added, "Be here tomorrow before the sun is up. If I have to come get you, you'll be sorry."
You raised an eyebrow at him.
"Actually sorry."
Frowning, you left to find Mini. Unfortunately, Killer's threat was not a sexy one, or else you would sleep in. That was fine. Even if he wasn't interested, you liked to flirt with him and he didn't seem opposed. On deck, several crew were trying to pull the boar away from scratching her tusks on the main mast. You ran over to help, "Mini, no. You can do that at the next island." She wasn't happy, but she obliged with a small bribe of scratching her ears. You observed some scratches in the yellow-white ivory tusks. If she was going to participate, you would have to figure something out to keep her protected. Another thing to see about when you got to land.
For now, you went to the infirmary. You wondered whether anyone needed your attention after the fight. No one had asked you, though maybe they were afraid to approach you for help. With your power, you added the trophy you took from Giemsa to the rest of your coat while you hung around. "What do you think, Mini?" She snorted appreciatively. There was a knock at the door. Wire was not the first person you would expect to see. He was distrustful of you, not unfairly so. "Need something?"
Wire didn't say anything, but moved his clothing out of the way so you could appreciate a large gash on his side. "Heat made me come."
Stepping closer, you observed the raised, pink edges of the jagged wound. It was oozing a red-tinted clear liquid. "Good thing he did." You went into the cabinets to look for disinfectant. "Cuz it's infected." You heard him suck in a breath when you touched antiseptic-soaked cotton to the flesh. "Not bad though." Dandelion-colored light danced at your fingertips while you closed the wound partially. "I'm not going to heal it all the way. If I do, the bacteria will be trapped under the skin." You handed him some cotton and a small bottle of the antiseptic. "Put this on it until it stops weeping, then I'll finish it, if it hasn't already healed itself."
Wire eyed you with skepticism as he took the items from your hands. "Okay." He left without another word.
No one else visited the infirmary. At dinner, you joined the girls' table. They were all excitedly chattering about what stores they were going to hit when you docked. Were you.... allowed to go? You were unsure where you fell categorically: guest, hostage, rookie, Kid's new plaything, all of the above. Assuming you could go, you tried to ascertain where the best place to get pants was. Or more clothes in general. You only had what you had on.
"I noticed you didn't sleep in your bed last night," Dive teased.
You piled the rest of the food on your plate onto a fork, "And?"
Dive held her hands up. "Nothing. Nothing. Just don't get bitchy when he brings a whore on the ship."
You rolled your eyes and laughed. "Maybe you should be telling him not to get bitchy when I get more attention than he does."
"Oh?" Emma perked up.
Smirking, "I can't help that everyone loves a meanie with a scar."
Emma tutted. "Yeah but Kid is also a meanie with a scar."
"You have a point. But..... Well I was gonna say I have big, nice boobs but he kinda does, too." You tapped a finger to your lips. "Hm. Whatever. I'm cuter." You finished off the bite that had been waiting on your fork and bussed your plate.
After dinner, you went straight to your bunk, Mini hot on your heels. If you had to wake up early, you wanted to be rested. Also, you were actually kind of tired from the day's activities, not having slept much the night before. As soon as your head hit the pillow, you were out. Sadly, you didn't stay that way. Tangled in the sheets, in a cold sweat, you were frightened awake by another nightmare, reliving the day you lost half your face, over and over again. They weren't going to stop until the last of your tormenters were dead.
Sighing, you peeled yourself from the mattress and threw on clothes. It was probably close to the time you should be awake anyway, and you knew you wouldn't be able to go back to sleep. No one had woken up from your tossing and turning, including Minerva. You slipped out and made your way on deck. Looking up at the sky, it was still the middle of the night, not yet close to sunrise, but not far off. You leaned on one of the railings. The gentle rocking of the ship and the cool, salty breeze were refreshing, washing the memories of your nightmare away. You stayed like that until the sky ever so slightly shifted from deep blue to royal blue with a hint of pink.
You were early. Already waiting in the galley by the time Killer came around.
He made an amused noise. "Thought you would make me come find you for sure."
"Yeah, well. I'm here." You had already donned an apron and set up your area.
"More obedient for me than Kid I see."
The phrasing of that had you turning around to hide the red flush in your cheeks. 'Obedient for me'. Playing it off, you shrugged. "You're nicer."
Killer placed you in charge of scrambled egg duty. It was hard to fuck up scrambled eggs. You snuck peeks at Killer while he cooked. He would slide his mask up just far enough to taste test and when he did, you craned your neck to try and glimpse his handsome face.
"I never thanked you for taking care of me after the fire."
"You did." Killer wouldn't easily forget such a plump ass.
You snickered. You had kind of forgot you did that. "I mean actually. It was nice to wake up clean." You dumped another batch of eggs into a serving pan. "I appreciated that."
"You did the same for me."
"That was under duress." Kid had threatened you many, many times about keeping his first mate alive.
"Did you braid my hair under duress, too?"
Again, your cheeks turned pink. "No... I didn't know you knew that was me."
"I did." Killer finished frying what must have been 5 pounds of bacon. "Just like I know that you were the marine that almost had Kid and I caught when we were first setting out."
A smirk settled on your features and you turned to him. "So you do remember."
"I remembered as soon as I saw that gun of yours, darlin." Killer wiped down his area.
"Why didn't you say anything?"
Killer's shoulders shook. "Kid was pissed off for weeks after that. If I brought it up, you would have been dead meat."
Your heart swelled with pride at that. Pissing Kid off since day one. "What... happened?" At one point, you had both of them at your mercy, then the next moment, you were waking up after having been knocked out.
Killer thought for a while, trying to remember. "Kid was trying to threaten you into letting me go, not very convincingly since you had seastone in your weapon. I couldn't do anything without you cutting my neck or shooting Kid. I think it was Wire that knocked you out from behind. One of your marine buddies dragged you off before Kid could take you hostage." Killer paused. "Actually he was way too impatient for hostages then. He would have just crushed you if he could have."
So that's why Wire doesn't trust me. "I see."
"So you are from the South Blue."
You nodded.
"WHY ARE YOU TWO CHIT-CHATTING?! WHERE'S MY BREAKFAST!?" Kid barged in through the swinging galley doors.
