I had a really cheap 16-track board, and we had a bunch of crappy mics. I basically had the drums and guitars playing upstairs and ran mics down the stairs and had Gerard sing in the bathroom.” What came out of those sessions were the blueprints for “Our Lady of Sorrows” (original title: “Bring More Knives”), “Cubicles” and “Turnstiles.” “You could hear that it was something really new, and it was kind of a weird idea, but for some reason, as poorly as it was coming together, it really worked,” remembers Gerard. “And a lot of people loved the demo.”

Our First Formula Junior Season Is Go, Snetterton Race Report!

Hi All,

So here we go, our first season in our 1961 Lotus Formula Junior, this has certainly been quite a while coming as we bought the car around 3 years ago now but its restoration was much more involved than I could have ever imagined but that is all behind us now and we can look forward to seasons of amazing racing ahead of us.

We did a couple of events at Silverstone towards the end of last year to really just shake the car down which it passed with flying colours so now it is time to get stuck in and see what we can achieve in this amazing little single seater, it still blows my mind that it has been racing for over 60 years, this car really has seen time change through the decades.

Friday Testing

So our first event of 2024 is at Snetterton in Norfolk, the home of Lotus, so a home race for our 20/22, I have to say I have never been a big fan of Snetterton, it always seems to be wet and cold there, in fact I first went to Snett to test the Radical SR1 we had just got in 2018 and the day was snowed off and it hasn’t got much better over the years to be honest.

I was certainly keen to get back in the groove asap on Friday though, our first run was around 10am and as soon as I sat in the car it started to pour with rain, with the afternoon and Saturday race day looking dry I decided to sit out the 2 morning session as I felt I wasn’t going to learn much and didn’t want to damage the car in anyway.

So I had lunch and by the afternoon it was dry and the sun way out but it was still really cold and windy but I jumped in our Lotus and drove down the pit lane for my first test session of 2024. Now to my surprise I really didn’t enjoy this session at all, it was like I’d forgotten how to drive, this really surprised me as I was pretty happy with my pace for the Silverstone races but here I really felt like a duck out of water, all I could put it down to is that I have only driven a van for the last few months so it was a bit of a shock to be sat in a lightweight, super responsive and fast race car , another contributing factor was the really strong winds, with gust up to 80kph the car felt like it was about to take off, it only weight 400kg’s so when a gust of wind hits it you really feel it and it was at its worst down the back straight where you are going the fastest, it was so scary I was afraid to take my hands of the steering wheel to change gear as the car was darting left and right when the wind hit it, not a pleasurable experience at all, I was so glad when I saw the chequered flag and the session was over.

So I came in after the 1st session really disappointed in myself and my severe lack of pace, I was even wondering if it was time to hang up my helmet, had I lost it, you do hear about it being like a switch and you know when that time comes, but I gave myself a good talking too in-between sessions and went out again for the last session of the day, what a transformation, the wind had died down slightly and I knew to expect it which helped a little, in the end I went 15 secs a lap quicker than the session before and started to feel comfortable in the car again, maybe there is still life in the old dog yet.

Saturday Qualifying and Race Day!

So today was predicted to be dry and less windy and even though when driving to the circuit it was pouring down once there it did remain dry all day which was a real bonus. So now it was time to qualify, my best time yesterday was a 1 min 35 second lap so in my head I wanted to get down to a 1:33 or so, in the end my very last lap was a 1:31.369 which put me 11th on the grid out of 22 cars, so bang in the middle of the pack but I was delighted with that time, the funny thing is the faster you go doesn’t feel any harder than when going 5 seconds a lap slower, all very strange.

Please find my last Qualy lap below and fastest lap of the weekend, it still amazes me how slow it looks on camera, in the car it really does feel much faster, watching it back I’m thinking to myself what are you doing, looks like you can walk faster.

The Race

So after sitting around for 4 hours it is time to jump in the car and perform, now I was a bit worried about getting of the line as we have standing starts and that is not something you can really practice so we took our positions up on the grid and I sat and waited for the red lights to come on, I then upped the revs to 5000, the lights went out out and I lifted the clutch and we were off, so job one was complete, I didn’t stall, then I realised it was actually a rubbish start and I dropped from 11th to 14th by the 1st corner but I fought back to 10th but I stupidly let the car behind me through towards the end thinking it was the leader lapping me but it wasn’t and I could get back passed him, I was so annoyed with myself as I felt 10th was were I deserved to finish but if someone had told me at the start of the weekend I would finish 11th I really would have taken that, especially after the awful start on Friday.

So that was weekend 1 complete and I felt it was a great success as still so much to learn with this car, it is such a different animal to anything I have driven before but when you are in the groove it really is an amazing experience, so responsive and you are just a few CM’s off the ground to the sense of speed is great, such an intense experience, I really love it and can see me racing Formula Juniors for years to come, especially as everyone in the FJ paddock are so lovely and friendly, historic racing really is very special.

Next race is a Cadwell Park in a months time, that should be a brilliant track for these cars as very tight and twisty, can’t wait.

✩Update✩

✮ Haven't done one of these in a bit because life has been. Crazy. I honestly don't remember the last thing I updated y'all on in terms of how things are working out over here.

✮ So we're gonna go over everything I can think of since August 1st!

✮ August 1 - 11th: Got a job offer in Arizona! Put in two weeks' notice at my job at the shelter. Immediately my plans to get out to Arizona in time to start my other job went up in flames because of car issues/money issues. Honestly not all that upset, I'll have other chances to get something and if it turns back up I might even re-apply for that job.

✮ August 12th-19th: I had the most insane two weeks of work where people I had never interacted with previously/didn't know very well got teary and insisted they were going to miss me. I gave a lot of hugs to women I did not know very well. One of the residents, who got there the week I was leaving, heard that I was leaving to pursue a different job, and her daughter baked me a going away cake. They had known me for two days. It was fucking bizarre. I also bought my truck from my MIL finally! 19th was my last night at work.

✮ August 20th-31st: Left the shelter for the last time at the end of my shift the morning of the 20th. Got my truck's title in the mail! Started making plans to be out of apartment and on the way to Arizona by around September 1st, when my mother was supposed receive retirement benefits from her job that she just quit and then we could all head out to AZ together (instead of my husband and I driving cross-country on our own for the first time). Power got shut off for non-payment the same day I received a "please gtfo of this apartment, you didn't pay your rent" note from my Insane Landlady. We got out of the apartment because I had no plans of paying her anyway after the shit she'd been pulling the last few months (long story). Ended up in a hotel for a few days, in a motel for a few more. Now officially completely broke.

✮ September 1st-30th: Waited for mom's retirement benefits. Moved in with my grandmothers temporarily (around 3 weeks). Went totally broke and had to beg for money for food a couple times. Finally set out for AZ on the 30th. Car promptly started overheating and nearly broke down about 100 miles away, so our little convoy (my mom's truck, my truck, my parents' RV) stopped in at an RV park in Missouri so we could try to fix the truck and some issues the RV was having.

✮ Oct 1st-2nd: Cannot fucking figure out what's wrong with my truck. Dad has replaced the thermostat, tested the water filter, flushed and refilled the coolant, and emptied and refilled the oil. Stupid old thing (affectionate AND derogatory) still overheats if she goes over 60mph for longer than about 5 minutes. RV wouldn't start Oct 2nd when we meant to try and set out again. Mom and dad paid for my husband and I to remain in the RV park for the next two weeks, piled into mom's truck, and went on ahead to AZ to get started at their jobs so that they can come up with the money to get the RV and truck fixed and get us out there as they understand I literally Cannot contribute at the moment since I don't have a job and ran out of cash ages ago since this whole thing took WAY longer to happen than it was supposed to.

✮ Technically this also goes in the last section, but I decided to try and do OC-Tober this year. So far I've done the first 4 days with little difficulty, and it's honestly been nice. I've also been doing some mini-fics on a separate blog every day and that's been really nice too. I forgot how freeing it is to just write a little random thing and post it without needing to provide context or anything. Think I'm gonna try and stick to writing a mini-fic a day! At least until I'm gainfully employed again. It's done great things for my mental health.

✮ That said, my commissions are desperately open right now. I've got at least two weeks before I can make it to Arizona and have a chance at a job, and there's a chance we may just have to send my truck back to Illinois if we can't figure out what's wrong with it which will severely impact my ability to find gainful employment in the city.

✮ Not exactly an update, but groceries are so much fucking cheaper in Missouri than they are in Illinois??? I haven't called DHS to tell them I'm moving yet because we still definitely need the money and don't have a permanent address outside Illinois yet anyway, so we got our SNAP benefits today and, like... We bought $130 worth of groceries at Walmart that would have EASILY maxed out our SNAP in Illinois like halfway through picking up essentials. It's WILD.

On September 11th, 2020, I posted this, a teaser for a 'faux Earthbound-inspired project' featuring four brightly colored silhouettes of its four main characters. The concept and characters were shrouded in mystery up until April 7th of the following year, where I posted yet another teaser in the form of an in-game screenshot, revealing the character of Lauren Henley and the project's placeholder title, Project 2000.

In that post, I mentioned that Project 2000 isn't the project's final name, and that I would be unveiling its true name later on down the line. The truth of the matter was that I could have gone and revealed the true name as early as... well, 2020 if I wanted to. But a lot of the project was still being figured out at that time (Including the designs of its main characters!), and I wanted to hold off on revealing anything more until I knew I was 100% ready to explain what this 'Project 2000' even is.

Now, nearing a year after I posted the initial first teaser, I feel as though it's about time to introduce a few more original characters of mine to this blog, and with that being said...

Let's talk about Override!

Shigesato Itoi's 1994 cult classic Earthbound (Known as MOTHER 2 in Japan) flopped due to misleading marketing when it came around to being released in the states, but its witty humor, nonstandard JRPG setting and its colorful visual presentation proved to be a hit to the American audience in due time.

This, of course, led to creators opting to shape games around a similar basis to Earthbound, whether its in terms of graphical style, humor, battle tactics, and much more. I think the most popular example when the phrase "Earthbound-Inspired RPG" comes to mind is undoubtedly Toby Fox's Undertale, which shared a lot of the same humor as its inspiration as well as a similar graphical style.

Some fans liked the MOTHER series so much that they wanted to take the franchise into their own hands and create the next installment after Shigesato Itoi stated that MOTHER 3 was the last game in the franchise, and MOTHER 4 began production by fans. Many Winter 2014s later, it was unsure if the game was still in production, though the project was officially rebranded as its own entity as Oddity in 2020.

Override is, essentially, my kind of Undertale/Oddity, mixing elements from Earthbound, MOTHER 3, the Y2K bug and the general 2000s aesthetic together into one. By that first part, I mean it's an Earthbound-Inspired RPG crafted by my own hand (Dating as far back as mid-2019); it, of course, isn't an actual game, but rather a collection of conceptual art pieces and faux in-game screenshots I've made detailing what it would look like as a real game (Like Mega Man Ultimate).

Oh, right, the plot! Bear in mind that a lot of the finer details of Override's story haven't quite been figured out yet, but I can say that I at least have enough to finally get around to talking about it.

Charles Feldman, CEO of Synergon Robotics, longs to spearhead a dystopian world with an invincible army of technologic law-enforcers, though finds it almost impossible to in his current time, the year 2095, where such technology is commonplace.

For years, he has meticulously shaped a plan where he, a team of subordinates and all the robo-security he could need would time travel back just before the year 2000, wherein he would corrupt all technology at that point with a 'Y2K Bug' and force the denizens of the world to live a lifestyle not unlike the events of the novel 1984, wherein humanity's every move is closely observed, and if someone steps out of line, they fall to the wrath of the Synergon Police.

His plan, for the most part, is successful. He travels back to the date November 18th, 1997 to have enough time to prepare for his eventual world-ruling plan on midnight, January 1st, 2000. The aforementioned Synergon police are armed with powerful devices called 'Psiometers', which are watch-like gadgets which connect to the user's neural network to unlock the powers of the mind.

Psiometers alongside other tech necessary for Feldman's ploy are transferred base-to-base in the middle of the night via drones, which are equipped with cameras and can hold up to twenty pounds of equipment. However, on the night of December 30th, 1999, a flaw in the wrap-up of Feldman's ultimate plan occurs, when a last minute drone delivery of two Psiometer units results in a crash.

The drone lands in the yard of the Henley residence. Nine and a half year old Lauren Henley overhears the crash and goes outside to investigate, finding the busted drone amidst the snow. After another brief malfunction, it shuts itself down, and Lauren, vowing to figure out its origins, drags it into the garage and goes back to bed...

December 31st, 1999. Lauren brings the Synergon drone to her neighbor's house, and shows it to her best friend, nine year old Casey Treverton. The two shortly discover the drone's contents, and Lauren instantly suspects there's more to the Synergon story. They ultimately are short on answers for the time being, and keep the whole thing a secret from their parents until later that night...

One minute until the new year. Casey and Lauren hurry to the downstairs of the Treverton residence to catch the ball drop for the new millennium. Whatever weirdness happened earlier is put on the backburner as the two flop down in front of the TV, eagerly counting down the seconds left of 1999.

"5... 4... 3... 2..."

Then, a nationwide power shortage. Nobody has any clue what's going on. Eventually, the TV flickers back on, and instead of the new year festivities they had been watching prior, the picture depicts a grizzled although finely dressed man in front of a white backdrop; Charles Feldman.

He states that his message is being broadcast across every television in the country, and reveals his lengthy plan to create a highly technical dystopian society overseen by Synergon Robotics, threatening to rewire any technology he pleases for the worst should anyone oppose him.

Casey and Lauren grimace at each other.

Three months pass. Not a lot has changed this early on in, though the citizens of Maywood are under close surveillance by various automatons to make sure nobody tries anything funny. Lauren decides that she has had enough of this 'Synergon Business' and asks Casey if he's interested in figuring out how the Psiometers work and using them against Synergon to ultimately take them down.

At first, Casey is unsure, true to his nervous personality. There isn't any rational way two children could lead to the downfall of an entity which has taken over the world, but Lauren is sure of their success, and with enough coercing the two embark on a mission to take back what's theirs. Who do they meet along the way? Just how deep does the Synergon plan run? And will they reign victorious? Only time will tell...

Well, now that we have the lengthy scene-setting out of the way, let's check out the good stuff; checking out the four heroes of Override which were teased last year! It's a good thing I chose to wait to show their designs off, because the silhouettes shown in the teaser weren't the same designs as what I have now. So, let's get right into it!

It may have taken much longer than I expected to show Override off, but at the very least that means I can now get around to posting/writing about what I've come up for it! I have a lot of Override-related content on the way, though I find that this is an excellent way to introduce its world! A LOT of work was put into this, so I hope you've enjoyed everything this post has to offer!

Adjusting

The GP took Kerry’s details and suggested, given her age and history, that she use her private medicine to see a pregnancy specialist to get an early scan and review her care.

A week later, Kerry found herself sitting in the waiting room at St Mary’s Hospital Paddington. The consultant was a lady in her early 60s who asked her history and took all the details of the 2 miscarriages. Then she asked Kerry to pop up on the bed ready for a scan. She eased her jeans and knickers down and the consultant smeared on the cold jelly and started to move the wand over her belly. Kerry held her breath looking at the screen, remembering the times when nothing could be seen or a still image of a dead embryo was there.

After a few moments, the consultant announced

“There you are, little tyke hiding.”

Tears fell then as Kerry looked at the tiny kidney bean shape on the screen flickering away.

The consultant squeezed her hand, understanding the emotion of the moment.

Measurements were taken and they aligned with a pregnancy of 8 weeks. She could also see the signs of a condition called polycystic ovarian syndrome which does come with a slightly elevated risk of miscarriage, possibly explaining the first 2 lost pregnancies years ago as well as the struggle previously to get pregnant and the occasionally irregular periods. Kerry’s biggest fear was that it would happen again. The consultant’s main advice was folic acid and rest but based on how anxious Kerry was, she also suggested that she didn’t fly back to LA until she’d reached 12 weeks. This wasn’t due to any real risk but having experience of many pregnant women with fertility and or loss issues, she knew that they could blame themselves for a loss based on the tiniest thing that probably had nothing to do with it, but they would beat themselves up all the same.

“So go somewhere you feel calm - you said you’re a writer didn’t you?So I guess you can do that anywhere” Kerry nodded thinking of her argument with Keanu.

“and we’ll book you in for another scan at 12 weeks and after that, you can head back to LA and your partner”

A few days later, Kerry was on the train headed for Penzance. She’d had a few quick phone calls with Keanu since being back in UK – she was relieved that he hadn’t been able to video call as the only time that worked was when he was heading out to set at 7am their time as he wasn’t getting back til 10 at night when she would be asleep again, so quick phone calls were the easiest thing along with the odd text when he was waiting around on set. He had another couple of weeks on location which took them, unbeknown to him, to her 11th week. She said she’d try to schedule her return to coincide with his, counting on saying later that she couldn’t get a flight with the dog travel in time to get around why she wasn’t going to make it.

The consultant was right that being somewhere where she felt calm would help and Kerry settled back to her old Sennen routine of walks on the beach and writing. The sickness was pretty bad during weeks 9 and 10 but was settling as she headed into week 11. She even found herself hopeful enough to work out the due date of December 1st though she didn’t dare write it down anywhere!

The shoot was over and Keanu was due home, but she hadn’t spoken to him in a few days since the end of the shoot was frantic, followed by a wrap party and then he had to travel home. When he finally called, from LA this time rather than Florida, he was disappointed that she hadn’t made it back. Kerry finessed her excuse about the flight saying she’d been about to book the one to be there by now but Scout had got an abscess on her paw and she wanted to be sure he was fully recovered before booking the flight. He accepted this and offered to get his PA on the case to help secure something as soon as she was confident that Scout was OK. When he did call his PA though, he had a different idea. He hoped Kerry would like it. She hadn’t been very chatty on their call and he worried that absence hadn’t made the heart grow fonder or that she’d realised she preferred life in Sennen alone to life in LA with him.

Truth be told, she was still concerned about their relationship, could they make it work with their work commitments? Had it been a flash in the pan, a whirlwind romance and not true love? But she missed him so much and she could see the care in his eyes when they spoke – her worries based on Autumn’s comments had eased and she planned to make arrangements to fly back to LA as soon she’d had the 12-week scan.

3 days later, Kerry took Scout for her usual late morning walk and tired them both out with the fresh air and exercise. After a quick sandwich, she lay down on the sofa for a nap and Scout curled up in his basket.

Keanu’s car pulled up at the house in Sennen at 2pm. He thanked the driver, hauled his bag from the car boot and made his way to the kitchen door. It was a warm day and he found it open. He called out but nobody answered so he dropped his bag and went in search of Kerry. He found her still sleeping on the sofa, a snuggle blanket draped over her and her hair held back in a loose ponytail. Scout was still sleeping, fortunately, so there was no excited barking to disturb Kerry’s sleep. She looked different to him somehow but he couldn’t put his finger on it. He thought it was probably just being out in the sea air more that had given her cheeks a soft glow.

He decided to leave her sleeping and make himself a coffee so he crept back to the kitchen. The sounds of him finding a cup and filling the kettle floated through to the living room and Scout stirred making a quiet bark as he trotted through.

“Hello boy, it’s just me” Keanu cooed in a low voice giving him a rub on the head. He went to the fridge to fetch the milk and stopped in his tracks.

That’s how Kerry found him as she stumbled through sleepily wondering what the noise was.

Hi, I'm Blaire, Blaire Helms, thinking that no one is going to read any of this I have made a resolution to start journaling my life. Even if no one ever saw this, it would be nice to look back and read what I had in mind for the years to come. Let me start out with who I am. I'm a 17-year-old girl from Topeka Kansas, I live with my mother and twin brothers in an apartment downtown. My brothers, Jack and Elliot, are star players on the high school football team. And well, my mother, she is a waiter at the cafe on the main street. We don't have much here at home, and having to scrounge for money to buy a $15 journal had been a struggle for the past few weeks. Me on the other hand, I'm 5'6" with long brown hair and big green eyes. School before winter break was tough, I get bullied a lot, and making friends is a bit of a challenge for me. My brothers don't make it any easier for me either, they sometimes even send random classmates to come to bully me in the smoking pit. Yeah yeah, I know, before you get all Nabby about me smoking I know that it's bad for you, but, I'm 17 how bad could it get. Being a junior in high school isn't all that rough though. I'm an average C student with average teen life. To end on a good note, I finally had enough money saved for the dance on the 13th. Well, it is a welcome back dance for all the kids who passed 1st semester. I just hope no trouble endured like last year, having my head dumped into the punch bowl was not pleasant. Expect more from me in the future. Until then.

Smoking Pit Disaster:

January 7th, 1980

Today was hell, when I woke up my brother Elliot had clogged the toilet and flooded the whole bathroom, and just left it there, I was always the last one to leave the house and there was no time to clean it up. I had to get ready at school, about 15 minutes later and once I had left the restroom it was straight to the smoking pit to skip 1st period. There were always a few girls down there and they weren't very talkative, they always just sat and smoked for the whole hour, no breaks in between. As I was smoking you literally won't believe who came down to bother me, Mason Palmer. Mason was the hottest guy in school, he was also the biggest jerk of the school. He was famously popular among anyone in the city and always had a few remarks in his sleeve. after a few minutes of smoking and getting paper balls profusely thrown at me, Mason had jumped down into the pit and proceeded to taunt me. After the taunting, he had kicked my side causing me to drop my cigarette onto my leg. He then left laughing at his buddies. About 30 minutes after the beating I had left to go to 2nd period. Walking through the hallway trying to cover the burn hole in my jeans, I ran into Mason. He had grabbed my backpack and threw it at one of his buddies that had taken off with the bag. He then pushed me down and walked away, leaving me with no supplies, and I had returned to the smoking pit for the remainder of the day. Hopefully, this week would get better before the dance on the 13th. If it doesn't, I'll just have to stay home. But, until next time.

Sam's Club Shopping Spree:

Today I had to go shopping for bulk food supplies at Sam's Club. It was the cheapest place where we could go to buy a lot of items for less money. It was only the 2nd time I had to go shopping there and I was bored out of my mind. As I was shopping today I picked up the usual items we needed. Macaroni, ramen, chips and lots more. In the back of my mind somewhere I needed to get some cleaning supplies, I don't know why but I bought some anyway. a 4 pack of bleach bottles, 16-pack sponges, 2 3-gallon mop buckets, 8 pack of paper towels, and some sterile gloves. I felt like I needed to clean the whole house. After I was done shopping I decided to stop by Walgreens to pick up some pain killers for my back, it's been so horrible lately, they'll knock me out in a second if I'm not careful. Once I got home, I left the cleaning supplies in my car until I needed them and brought the other groceries inside. Being usual teenage boys my brothers decided to help none and pretend to be each other for a day, I guess it's a normal thing identical twins decide to do. Oh, and about Mason, he hasn't shown up to school for the past 2 days because he's been too busy suit shopping for the dance. This isn't prom, I guess he's wanting to fuck some chick in the back while everyone else is sipping on watered-down punch. Well, I'll let you guys know how the dance goes, all I'm wearing is a hand-me-down loose tee with some black jeans. Wish me luck.

Till Death Do Us Part:

January 13th, 1980

Guys, I'm in the middle of fucking nowhere right now. Why is this happening, this can't be happening? It started with the stupid fucking dance. I walked into the gym, grabbed my punch, and boom Mason was right there, he had poured his punch all over me and pushed me causing me to slip and fall hitting my head. I had gotten up asking him what he wanted from me. Suddenly he grabbed my wrist and pulled me to the side of the bleachers. He had pinned me against the wall and told me I had to do whatever he wanted me to do. I had agreed and asked him if I could run out to my car to get dried, he agreed and after some time I was back into the gym. Mason had gotten a new cup of punch and came over to dance. I had played around and danced along with him. Mason left to go pee after some dancing and asked me to hold his cup. While Mason was gone, I had grabbed some of those painkillers from the car and slipped some into his drink. Mason had returned and started drinking his punch, fast, like he was dying of dehydration. He started falling asleep so, I asked him if he wanted to go to the storage closet to have some fun. He had followed me in there, pinned me down, and I stabbed him. I had must've stabbed him 100 times, blood was everywhere. I panicked, I had shut off the lights and locked the door. It must've been hours but no one looked for us, once the last person left the school I knew what I needed to do with Mason. I had dragged his body out to my car and laid him in the backseat on top of my wet clothes, all of his blood had drained out onto the floor of the gym. I had grabbed the cleaning supplies I bought from Costco earlier and cleaned. it must've taken me an hour. I had grabbed all the trash and stuffed it into the back of my car. I had decided I needed to do something with this body or it was going to rot in my car minute by minute. I had stopped at a gas station to pick up 30 lbs of raw meat and some new clothes without being questioned and afterward, I had gone a bit off-roading miles away from the road and found a place to park and deal with it. My mother loved to Garden and so happens the day before she had left most of her gardening stuff in the car, so I got to digging. I had created dirt stairs and dug 12ft down. I had stripped Mason down to his skin and set his clothes aside. I had placed him into the hole. I covered him up with about 6 ft of dirt, and placed the raw rotting meat above, covering it with the remaining dirt, patted it out, and made it look natural. I had found some school papers from my car and tumbleweeds laying around to create a fire.  I stripped down to my skin and proceeded to throw everything I had used to kill Mason into the fire, letting it burn. After the fire was done burning I picked up the ashes and brought them with me back to a small pond a few miles down the road. I had thrown the ashes into the pond, watching them disintegrate, and jumped in the pond myself to wash up all the blood. While I was in the pond I had realized what I've done. While drying off I burst into tears and begged God for forgiveness. Afterward, I had set myself on home, sitting here now at a gas station, only 25 miles away from my house.

A watch party had started for Mason and I had joined along with them in search for him. I knew what I did, and I knew nobody was going to ever find him. I know that because it's a fact. The rotting meat will attract the dogs, the police dig it up and realize it's just some animal remains, and continue searching. There are no fingerprints or clothes to find because they are burnt. The ashes are dissolved into nothingness. And it's in the middle of Kansas in a desert, anyone could've done it. The school gym is cleaned like brand new, it's all planned. After the search party, I had stopped by Mason's house to see how his parents were doing. His mother and father could not stop crying. Soon I was "crying" and told them I needed to leave to get home to do some homework. I had gotten home and lost my mind, I was upset that I did such a thing. I had started laughing when realizing that I had gotten away, a murder undetected, a master plan successfully accomplished. But for how long.

It's been 3 months since I've killed Mason, the parties are over, and everyone is moving on like he was still out there missing. I knew what had happened, I've visited where I had buried him a few times since that night, It upsets me. A lot is going through my head lately. One of these days or years they are going to find him and I will be fucked, I can't live knowing I had killed a man. So sitting here in my bedroom I've come up with a plan, We are going to paint the walls, to have a fresh new start. I will load up the paintbrush and get to painting. The room is going to have small specks of red, it suits me best. But I've got to admit that I lived my life up to its fullest. Lighting up a cigarette and placed the paintbrush in the palm of my hand. I'm gonna set it down and I'll let you know how the room turns out tomorrow. I had left a note on the counter for my mother and my brothers, it's basically telling them to not come in until the paint dries, well I'll write later, Goodbye.

We had responded to a report of a teenage suicide yesterday night, a distraught mother had dialed 911 crying about her daughter being dead. When police arrived at the scene it was in fact Blaire Helms in her small apartment bedroom. She was lying on her left side with a gunshot wound to her right side of her face, the shotgun laying behind her back and the walls dusted in blood. No one knows why Blaire had committed suicide, people usually called her sweet and caring. No suicide note was found and police are still investigating the scene of the crime.

Re:Zero Season 2 Part 1

Storyline finally getting exciting. After finally going through the witch trials and dying and being stuck in the same death checkpoint. Subaru now has an actual target in mind for the next season! But with soo many new questions needing to be answered, will Subaru finally be able to complete his new mission with all the hints he gathered (from the trials, deaths and witchly meetings) and move on to the next checkpoint.

Opening was also diabolical in a great way!! Instead of spoiling what could be happening in the new anime season, they decided to review what happened in the first season and reminding everyone how ridiculously depressing and dark the anime really is.

The animation also upped its game once again. Especially when it came to talking to the witches, and how he kept on dying over and over and over again.

2nd Deca-Dence 

The storyline was amazing!! It was a very interesting cross between reality and fantasy. I loved how there was a good flow of character development happening and the dynamic between the 2 main characters was off the charts. 

The opening and ending were pretty on point too. A great start to the episodes and the ending had some really refreshing concept art to help end the episode. 

I loved the artwork and the way the characters were animated. It was very lively and colorful like they were real humans and not just any old cartoons. Even the robotic form for 1 of the characters was soo adorable it

3rd 

Appare-Ranman!

The story line was everything I expected and more. The cars were amazing and the character were even better. I had a lot of fun watching this anime, and I believe that a lot of people don’t give it much credit for the little things. 

The opening animation was a bit all over the place but I guess they did it on purpose to show the characters and what their strong points are.

The animation was honestly fun. I am not a big fan when it comes to mixing 3D and 2D animation together. But for this anime it went pretty smoothly.

Fruits Basket: 2nd Season 

The storyline kept on pissing me off!!!I swear to god I pity the Soma children who have to deal with all this unnecessary mental and physical turmoil, and their parents just make it all the more heartbreaking by being very selfish. Not to mention that the head of their house Akita Souma is a woman (which explains the hysterical over possessiveness)!!

The openings were very heartbreaking to be honest. But the artwork was so so beautiful, it was like the openings were telling the audience no matter how painful their turmoil is they will still stand beautifully when the next day comes.

The animations were beautifully drawn and smoothly transitioned from scene to the next. They were very straightforward with a lot of situations from flash back to the present pain shown in the show.

5th

The Great Pretender

The storyline was on point and pretty repetitive but it made sense for the last story arc. Each con heist story had a personal story attached to one of the characters, so it made the pulling of the heist all the more righteous. 

The opening was pretty good. The speedy jazz made a lot more action like. and the silhouettes of the people and places were a great change of pace. Also with out realizing it, they are showing off the places the of where the heist happen. Basically spoiling the anime series, but we really don’t notice it.

Top notch animation, everything is beautiful from the characters to the places. Everything is high quality and just calming.

Fugou Keiji: Balance:UNLIMITED  

The opening was amazing the color scheme. Always reminding me of the James Bond movies. The ending was also pretty fun to listen too and the 

The story was ok. The character interactions were what made the storyline stick. The one surprise was the fact that the main character joined the police force because of a conspiracy that happened within his family. Only to end having another twist where he finally finds out that his whole purpose was based off of false advertisement.

The animation was pretty great. Every episode ended in a flashy way only because the guy had so much money that he could do whatever he wanted.

No Guns Life 2

Opening was great as always. You could feel the dramatics though the song. 

Storyline finally went above and beyond. We finally got to see glimpse of everyones past. Especially the main character and what he was like when the war happened and ended, also what happened to all his brethren when the war itself.

Animation was awesome. Especially when it came to the fighting scene.

Muhyo to Rouji 2

Opening had a bit more pepe in its step. PRobably because they were getting pretty serious into the storyline.

Storyline finally continued the manga series. We got meet a wider range of characters 

Animation was amazing as always. 

9th

Bungou to Alchemist: Shinpan no Haguruma

Opening was amazing. I like how it was a jazz number that. It really seemed to fit the aura of the storyline itself. 

Storyline was interesting because you had a lot of important figures basically playing the main characters. But it seemed that one of them ruled over the rest especially since he was the silent type and also has amnesia for some reason.

Animation was beautiful. Just drawing all those handsome men was a the ultimate fan service any animation company could give. I really hope those animatore got a bonus for their great work.

The God of High School

Opening was interesting to say the least. But not a big fan those types of DJ players. Who knows people must have really liked it.

Storyline, really skipped over a lot of thing from the main story. My guess is because the original storyline had soooo much happening. Hell the webtoon itself isn't even done yet and its been out for like 3 to 5 years.

Animation was amazingly smooth. Especially since they did it all in 2D (not a a single speck of 3D element whatsoever and I loved it.) Also in some of the fights they animated some special effects just adding to that beautiful smoothness that I pointed out earlier.

Sword Art Online: Alicization - War of Underworld Part 2 

Opening was not that great.

Storyline is basically overused at this point. Only difference was that Kirito was basically in a coma, which was done by a forced 

Animation was only good that stayed, but I’m pretty sure that they over exaggerate the special effects. You know when the character were doing their Ultimate battle techniques.

Eclipses in Astrology:

(EDIT: This is an article I wrote for my old blog back in 2018.)

Solar and lunar eclipses are spectacular events for those who enjoy watching the sky, but did you know that they also act as major triggers for life events? Essentially, a solar eclipse is a maxed out new moon, while a lunar eclipse is a maxed out full moon. So for those of you who are familiar with the phases of the moon and their meanings, this means that a solar eclipse would signify a big new beginning, and a lunar eclipse would signify a majorly emotional ending.

Eclipses can trigger a huge number of happenings, good and bad. You can get an idea of what exactly it is that will happen by looking at the house and sign placement of the eclipse and what it activates in your chart. Speaking of! Only eclipses that aspect your natal chart directly will impact you significantly. We all may feel the intensity of these astrological events but only those who have an aspected planet or point can truly feel the weight of the eclipse, in particular those with an aspected Sun, Midheaven, Ascendant or Moon, as they are the most significant.

If you don't already, begin tracking eclipses, specifically those that make close aspects to a natal planet or point, and see if anything happens around that time. Events may occur on the exact day of the eclipse, or they may be dragged out. For a solar eclipse, you can expect to feel the energy of the eclipse about 3 to 6 months beforehand, and it may last for well over a year afterwards, especially if the eclipse aspects one of the more important placements noted above. For a lunar eclipse, there's a slightly shorter time frame of about 2 months before and after the eclipse for major events to take place. However, you may feel the effects of a lunar eclipse well beyond 2 months after the eclipse took place.

Eclipses run in cycles like the planets do, and they go through one family of signs at a time, based on the qualities (Cardinal, Fixed, Mutable). It takes about 7-8 years before a sign family will repeat itself, and roughly 19 years for an exact degree of a sign to repeat itself. This means that in the course of a year, there can be anywhere from four to six eclipses in the same sign family, with the potential to affect you significantly if any of these signs are emphasized in your natal chart.

Now let's get into some examples of eclipse-triggered events. I've collected research on a handful of different people's charts during different eclipses and they've all been affected in different ways. To start, I'll use my family as an example.

On July 27 of 2018, there was a lunar eclipse at 4 degrees Aquarius, exactly conjunct my brother's natal Uranus. This triggered a major health crisis for my brother, as well as an emotional crisis as well. On the night of the eclipse, he was admitted to the hospital with severely high blood pressure, and was going into kidney failure. Now, keep in mind my brother was only 20 at the time - much too young to be dealing with these kinds of health problems! Mars was conjunct the lunar eclipse as well, and transiting Uranus was making a square to his natal Uranus, further aggravating his condition. Uranus rules the nervous system, and the nervous system controls the blood pressure. Mars rules the blood, and Uranus was in Taurus, ruled by Venus which rules the kidneys. All the stress on these planets from the lunar eclipse triggered my brother's high blood pressure, which runs in our family on both sides. And because Uranus was involved, activating his 4th house of home and family, he felt a deep need for personal freedom as well. At the time he was living with our parents, and was having many arguments with them. He had been planning to move out for a while, but this lunar eclipse solidified his decision with all the stress it caused him at home with our parents. Four days later, he was released from the hospital and the doctors had prescribed him medication for his blood pressure that he will be taking likely the rest of his life. This is the nature of an eclipse, causing life-changing events, and with Uranus involved, it was very unexpected and abrupt.

Rewind to a solar eclipse in March of 2006 in Aries, this one activating my mom's natal Mars in her 12th house of hidden enemies. This was right around when my parents were fighting a lot and just before they got a divorce. This solar eclipse triggered many arguments between my parents, some even got a bit violent. This event is pretty self-explanatory, with Mars being the most aggressive planet in its own sign, placed in the 12th house. This would translate to an abundance of anger and excessive arguments with a man in the native’s life, which is exactly what happened. My dad became an enemy to my mom, an enemy that she didn't expect to discover when she married him. This eclipse also loosely activated my mom's Neptune in her 7th house of marriage, dissolving the marriage over the next few years in court. On the other side of the story, the same eclipse activated my dad's natal Pluto in Virgo in his 8th house of shared resources. Natally, Pluto here would point to a partner who is obsessed with money, and before the divorce, this might not have been the case, but after the eclipse triggered my dad's natal Pluto, the fighting ended up being primarily over finances and child support. This eclipse triggered a series of court battles between my parents, obsessively fighting over money. My dad ended up having to pay my mom a large amount of money in child support over a span of about 5 years. This same solar eclipse in March of 2006 also triggered my natal Sun by opposition, indicating the loss of a male figure in my life. This manifested for me as a temporary loss of my father, as he moved out and I saw him less often.

In my own experience, I've dealt with many significant eclipses. However, one stands out more than the rest. In November of 2013, I had just started school at University, when I met another student through a ride share group. This student seemed to be just another freshman guy starting school and didn't pose any threat to me when we met. However, the eclipse on November 3 that year triggered my Midheaven and Mars, bringing a major change in my life. Later that month, the student invited me to a party, and I went. Being a college party, we were drinking and socializing, but as the night progressed, he started acting more and more possessive of me. I had barely known him a week or two, but he was acting like I was his property. He kept tipping my cup back, forcing drinks down my throat, and as a result, I lost consciousness later on in the night. He dragged me upstairs onto a bed and proceeded to climb on top of me and assault me. What's interesting about this eclipse though, is that it was a solar eclipse in the sign of Scorpio, which rules obsessive behavior, taboos and sex. Activating my Mars and Midheaven in my 11th house, this translates to me as a life-changing physical event (sexual assault) occurring in a social setting or related to a new acquaintance (11th house). Saturn was also involved with this eclipse, conjunct the eclipse by 2 degrees. Saturn implies a long-term or chronic effect, and in my case, I received an ongoing diagnosis of PTSD. Also, my depression was magnified during that year after the incident, as Saturn can cause major depression.

I've observed my friend's charts and their life events related to eclipses as well. In June of 2012, there was a lunar eclipse in Sagittarius, directly triggering one of my friend's natal Mercury and Uranus. On the other end, the Sun was also activating his Chiron. This was the day his brother died in a car accident. A drunk driver hit him. Mercury rules siblings and Uranus rules unexpected events and accidents. As you can imagine, Pluto was transiting his 8th house, activating his North Node in a trine and his South Node in a sextile as well.

Someone I knew even was imprisoned after a series of eclipses activated his natal Sun and Moon in Libra as well as his Mercury, Jupiter & Venus in Scorpio. He has this Scorpio stellium in his 12th house, and Saturn was closely conjunct the first lunar eclipse in Scorpio (which triggered his Mercury) to set off this series of events. This Saturn conjunction to his natal Mercury represents a loss of freedom indicated as a consequence for impulsive actions (Mars was opposite the lunar eclipse, also triggering his Mercury in a hard aspect). It was deserved, think justice, as the next year and a half while he faced imprisonment in court, the eclipses were activating his Libra Moon, Sun and then Midheaven. Libra is a fair-minded air sign and rules judges. Pluto was squaring his Sun exactly at the time too, and Mars joined in on that square on the day he was convicted.

On a more positive note, eclipses can trigger very positive changes as well! In another friend's chart, I've seen a solar eclipse activate her Venus in her 1st house (Leo) in a conjunction by 2 degrees and her Midheaven exactly by trine in her 9th house (Aries). She was rewarded with a new job teaching young children in China - this is her Midheaven being activated in the 9th house of distant travels, and the eclipse is coming from her 1st house of Leo, the sign of children. She even made a significant connection to one of the students who made a noticeable first impression on her second day there. The student ended up being one of her best students!

Sometimes there can be large amounts of money involved when a solar eclipse activates specific houses. One friend of mine inherited $100,000 from his grandmother when she passed, right around the time of a lunar eclipse that activated his natal Saturn (grandparents) in his 2nd house of finance, from the 11th house of large amounts of money. The Sun was activating his 5th house of fun and pleasures, so as a result, he went on a major drug/alcohol/stripper binge (Neptune was squaring his natal Moon at the time as well) where he encountered many fake friends who used him for his money. The 11th house is friends and acquaintances as well as huge dream amounts of cash, and his 11th house falls in Scorpio, so there was definitely manipulative behavior involved.

There are many other kinds of events that eclipses can trigger as well. Depending on the planets, houses and signs involved, there may be marriages or engagements, pregnancies, divorces, promotions, traveling, moving homes, major health issues or improvements, surgeries, educational developments, major accomplishments... The list goes on! Just think big though, as that seems to be the theme with eclipses. During my research, I asked each of my friends what the most significant time or moment in their life was, and almost every single one of them had an eclipse as their first answer. They recalled the exact month and year, some even the date, and it came immediately to mind. When I went to check the dates of that year’s eclipses and compare them to their natal charts, sure enough, there was an eclipse activating something in their chart.

So next time you hear of or get to witness an eclipse, no matter where it is in the world, as these cosmic events affect all of us, think to yourself what in your life might change or be disrupted. What might evolve or take action. Or even better, consult your natal chart and try and figure out exactly what will happen, guided by your intuition!

The Lord of Time and Karma Saturn retrogrades back into Capricorn to make a wide conjunction with retrograde Pluto and Jupiter from now right through the autumn – the 3 change agents never more than 8 degrees apart from July 1st onwards and all at odds with Disruptor Eris- the engine behind the current social upheaval. Neptune is also retrograde as is Mercury and on July 11th Chiron turns retrograde. On July 19th Eris also turns backwards. The cosmic wheel is in reverse polarity and it will come to a crescendo over the next 10 weeks.

It’s a time for reflection, for unflinchingly reviewing the past. For looking honestly at what has brought us to this crossroads. All of this has enormous personal, private meaning for every one of us. (much more on this to come in my August 2020 5D Report).

July 5 2020 Lunar Eclipse 13 Capricorn:

This is the very last of 9 eclipses across Capricorn/Cancer since 2018. One by one, they have brought home to every single one of us the undeniable reality of the fragility and impermanence of life – as Saturn, Jupiter and Pluto’s transits through Capricorn at the same time have broken apart social frameworks, governments and the economy.

Halo!anon submitted: June 4th 2018 I can’t help but imagine how tickling must play a part in other aspects of society in the accessor ‘verse, besides the sessions between master and accessory. So here’s some imagines and headcanons, with a touch of worldbuilding. (Warnings, besides the usual for this AU: death mention, reference to past trauma.)

- Among the high class, during parties and other celebrations, it’s seen as a common courtesy to string up one’s personal accessory in the center of the room and let the guests entertain themselves with them. Lord Castiel never does this with Dean, much to his fellow nobles’ disappointment; the mere suggestion had Dean quaking as things he’d rather forget came back to bite him.

- Every so often, a petty criminal(the poor man’s accessory, if you will) is placed in stocks in a small town’s square and left at the mercy of the very people they used to menace. What happens next usually involves honey, some sheep, and plenty of begging. A guard stands by to warn people, “No hurting, only tickling. Everyone please wait your turn, they’re not going anywhere any time soon.”

- Certain monastic healers perform tickle therapy as a treatment for anxiety, stress, and other “diseases of the soul”, as they call them. Balthazar himself proposed the idea, because of course he did. The rich usually indulge in this kind of therapy secretly, due to its undignified nature. Some contemplate the possibility of training accessories to tickle in the future, but it’s still a big taboo.

- Every town has a folktale about a tickle monster. Curiously, many of them involve controlling plants and attacking through dreams. The southern communities still have a giggle remembering that one time six years ago when Michael offered to hunt down one such monster and came back with Crowley, a sleazy drunkard with a fetish and a dream, sitting in a cage and wearing a mask.

- The Masters sisters, Lillith, Meg and Ruby, have a long history with law enforcement. Their favorite pastime is snatching unlucky merchants off the roads and tickling them into coughing up everything they have. Everyone is sure they had a hand in Fergus"Crowley" Macleod’s untimely demise by ferocious attack hounds, but they’re very good at covering their tracks. They’ll help you cover up your tracks too, if you’re a friend- ask Bela Talbot.

~ Gabriel leads a furious rant regarding Prince Lucifer/Sam to Castiel, relating back to perhaps dealings he has directly had with the Prince between their two unstable-yet-truced Kingdoms. Castiel relates with similar views shared by Gehenna’s councilor(s).

~ Dean and Sam BM where the audience learns more about their homevillage. Dean starts it after a rather morose remark from Sam and ends with Sammy smiling and stealing my heart.

~ Balthazar helps Sam in several ways: 1) Learns the Sam was originally a psuedo-Advocates apprentice, as well as herbalist nephew when Sam identifies the components to some salves/medicines he’s making (he had been explaining what he was doing in an attempt to spare himself being attacked like the first couple times) 2) Calls Sam out on being intelligent and making a recklessly stupid choice by selling himself to find Dean. 3) Removes Lucifers mark. And maybe perhaps: 4) Allows Sam to assist in his own healing/medicine making under his careful observation, feigned as needing two sets of hands to do correctly and his assistant was running an errand, to assess his skills. 5) Offer he work in the hospice under him, apprenticing, should Gabriel allow his intelligence not go to waste. It’s not what Sam really wants to do/learn, but it’s better than doing nothing.

~Dean officially thanks Castiel for saving Sam. I’m talking full feels, single man tear sorta thing. And Castiel says “there was never another option” and then its schmoopy sweet with the kisses and the tickles and the Cas saying he loves Dean back!!!!!!!! swoon.

~ Kali!Likes!Sam’s!Spirit! Give me a dinner scene with Gabriel, Kali and Sam where hes holding his own in a diplomatic conversation with them when he nearly crosses a line (maybe something classist? Making it clear that Cas and Gabe are the exception to his experiences) and she says “I like this ones fire. He reminds me of you, my love.” *grabby hands*

~ Prince Lucifer sends a message to Gabriel requesting (threatening) his Helpmate be returned to him for a handsome reward. Sam somehow sees letter and gets spooked because DRAMA. Gabriel responds to Lucifer with the Chief Advocate equivalent of “Fuck Off”

You, my friend. YOU. All these feelings about Sam? Top-notch, and I shall be borrowing them, yes I shall.

Android!Cas not necessarily tickling at first so much as just touching like he had been wanting to so as to catalog how his best friend feels with his new technology. Android!Cas feeling that bubble of FEELS in his chest as he listens to Dean swear at him with positive physical actions negating his harsh words, growing more amused as the bubbling giggles begin. I love Android!Cas

Cas notices how Dean relaxes into his hold after a minute or so. Cas doesn't fail to use this knowledge about Dean, coming up with teasing words and methods of ticking to make Dean all squirmy and giggly, taking special notice of how light tickles effect Dean even more than most other touches, using that specially designed soft brush meant to gently clean Cas' delicate computer chips.

Letter #1 : ( September 30th, 2014 - Tyler was 16 years old )

Dear Dylan,

Mom’s pitiful attempt at helping me deal with everything is having me see the school counselor at this new school in Chicago. Mrs. Dayton suggested that if I didn’t want to ‘formally journal’ that writing letters to people I have strong feelings to share with would also help me. You were always the easiest to talk to about anything, so here we are.

Being a child of Southern California is really not working out for me here in Chicago and I’ve only been here like two months. It’s so BUSY here, so LOUD, you know? The pizza’s weird, too, but if I said that out loud around people here I really would never make friends. San Diego was so chill, and I could go to the beach whenever I wanted. I miss it. I miss a lot about home.

I miss you. The other day I was going through a box - because of course I haven’t fully unpacked yet, I’m moving as slow as humanly possible so that maybe this mistake will erase itself or something - and I found that jewelry box you made me in wood shop. It was just a stupid jewelry box, but I cried for almost two hours.

I don’t know how to DO this, Dyl. I’m so far away from what’s familiar to me. I don’t have you to talk to anymore. I have to live with this weight of having a baby eight months ago and handing her off to strangers. I can’t talk to my parents. I don’t WANT to talk to my parents. I don’t even know who I am anymore. I feel like a whole part of me is missing. I’m sixteen years old and I feel like an alien in my own skin. My body doesn’t even feel like a body anymore. It’s just this SHELL of something that used to have a heart and soul in it and now there’s just... There’s NOTHING, Dyl. There’s nothing.

Letter #2 : ( November 1st, 2014 - Tyler had just turned 17 )

Dear Dylan,

Yesterday my mom took me out to dinner after ballet. Dad didn’t come. He’s still pissed at me for not going to church since we moved here. I really didn’t want to do anything this year. Celebrating myself felt like something I really didn’t wanna be doing right now.

Do you remember last year? God, I was six months along then and so, so fucking emotional. We skipped school and slept in, you woke me up with blueberry pancakes and I cried. I cried over blueberry pancakes. And then threw up about forty seconds later. Pregnancy, right?

You got rid of the pancakes and cleaned me up and let me cry on you for twenty minutes before I finally got it out of my system. And I remember specifically, that you said, “sweet sixteen is overrated anyway.” I went from crying to laughing so fast, I didn’t even know what hit me. But that was the kind of thing you were good at. You could always make me smile. Even when my mom had ruined my mood after ballet class. Even when I’d done poorly on a test and was belittling myself for it. Even when I was pmsing and having a fit over what I looked like and how I wasn’t pretty enough to date you (which lets for a second acknowledge the stupidity of THAT). You were always the sun for me, you brightened up everything, Dyl.

I could really use some sunshine in my life right now.

Letter #3 : ( December 11th, 2014 - Tyler’s 17; right before winter break )

Dear Dylan,

Christmas is crap. It’s absolute crap. The fight between the church and fucking capitalism is exhausting. The stupidly optimistic music is garbage. The bright decorations are overwhelming. And the feeling of fucking overwhelming sadness this year is unbelievably painful. It’s her first Christmas, Dyl. And I know you probably think that I don’t think about her, but I do. I know that you probably think I blocked her out of my mind as soon as I handed her to her parents, but I didn’t, I COULDN’T. 

I carried that child inside my body for nine months, feeling everything. I endured twenty hours of excruciating labor to bring her into the world to then hold her for all of ten minutes before never seeing her again. Why is it so easy for you all to act like that’s something I could just FORGET? Like she’s not something that I wonder or worry about. Like she’s not my DAUGHTER, out there in the world somewhere, never knowing who I am or that even though I don’t know her, I’m always going to love her. Why can’t ANY of you understand that?

There’s nothing about this season that makes me happy. There’s no song or movie or gift or fucking MIRACLE that could make me happy right now. I feel hollowed out. I feel like I can’t even fucking feel ANYTHING.

I just keep wondering what she looks like. I just keep trying to stop wondering. I want to know what her parents are getting for her. I want to know what her personality is like. I want to know if she’s walking, I want to know if she’s excited about wrapping paper like babies get, I want to know what stupidly adorable Christmas dress they’re putting her in, I want to know what their plans are for her birthday next month, I want to know what her laugh sounds like. And more than anything, I want to stop thinking about it all.

Letter #4 : ( January 19th, 2015 - Sophia’s First Birthday )

Dear Dylan,

I couldn’t sleep last night. By the time my alarm was going off this morning, I think I’d already been crying for a half hour. Mom asked me why my eyes were puffy. I told her it was probably allergies.

Ballet’s not the same anymore. I SUCK at ballet now - my body can’t DO what it used to. I can’t MOVE like I could before. My body is DIFFERENT and I can’t get away from the why. I didn’t go to class today. Mom dropped me off at the studio but I felt too sick to go inside. I went to the Dunkin Donuts the next block over and there was a girl named Sophie working. I threw up twice in their bathroom.

What are you supposed to do when your life feels like this? When you feel both emotionally and physically sick all the time? When you don’t have anyone on your side to understand you or to help you?

Mrs. Dayton told me there’s books for grieving mothers. Like a fucking book is going to take away this fucking hole in my chest, this fucking choke-hold around my throat, this fucking churning in my stomach.

I wish I had listened to you, Dyl. I think that’s what I realize now. I’m not sure, but I think whatever we could’ve done together would’ve been better than this, would’ve FELT better than this.

And she’d be with me.

Letter #5 : ( June 21st, 2015 - Summer after Tyler’s Junior Year )

Dear Dylan,

It’s been a while. I didn’t really want to do these in the first place, so I think I gave it up after that last one and what getting that all out on paper did to me. But I met a boy at the library today, and he told me he thought I was gorgeous and for the whole minute and thirty seconds I actually interacted with him, all I could think of was you.

It’s been over a year now since you broke up with me, can you believe that? That ran through my mind for a moment. Then the reason we broke up did. But then everything before that came back real fast, too. Everything that was good. Like how you introduced me to the music that’s now my favorite. Like how your arms felt around my shoulders when you hugged me because of how much taller than me you are. Like how you helped your mom so much because you were just GOOD, not a bad thing about you.

I understand why you left me. I do get it. I get that it was hard. I understand that it was hard to see that we were just too young, too naive, too unprepared to raise a baby. I understand that you loved me so fucking much that you thought that that was enough to make it through anything. I understand how I felt about you, too, but that I was fucking terrified.

If it’s any consolation, that terror got traded in for guilt. It got traded in for feeling like a terrible person everyday, for feeling like I don’t know myself anymore. I’ve made so many changes to the person that I am. And while I feel more true to myself than I have in a long time, I also feel confused. I also feel conflicted. Everything is harder now, missing you, thinking about what could’ve been.

I think I was wrong before, when I said that I wish I had listened to you. It kills me to say so, but I think I was wrong. We weren’t ready to be parents, Dyl. And I struggle everyday with the fact that I have a child out there that’s mine but also NOT mine, but... We weren’t ready. Maybe you’ll see that one day, maybe you won’t.

I won’t know either way, right?

Letter #6 - ( September 20th, 2015 - Early on in Tyler’s Senior Year )

Dear Dylan,

Mrs. Dayton transferred to another school, so obviously I won’t be seeing her anymore. I don’t really like the new guy; he’s got your name, and that makes the whole thing weird.

You know what else is weird? That I’m a senior now. I’m a senior in high school, and you’re graduated, and we’re so far apart both literally and figuratively that it blows my mind.

Another weird thing: I think I’ve finally come to terms with things. Now, not everything. But THINGS. I’ve come to terms with the fact that my life as it stands - struggling with ballet but unable to give it up because of my mom, having little to no remaining relationship with my dad, talking to all of four people on a regular basis at school, wishing that things would get better but knowing that they just won’t - is just the way that things are going to go from here on out. I’ve come to terms with the fact that I have to remain a certain level of numb, a certain level of guarded, because of that. I’ve come to terms with the fact that I loved you and you broke my heart, but I also broke my own heart, too. I’ve come to terms with the fact that there’s probably no way of fixing that, I’ve just gotta live with it.

But most of all, I’ve come to terms with the fact that the choices I made at fifteen and sixteen about our baby, those were the right choices. I don’t have to be happy with them. I don’t have to enjoy them. I don’t have to feel relieved or proud of them. I’m allowed to hurt, I’m allowed to feel what I feel, think what I think, wonder what I wonder. Letting that little girl have a life that we wouldn’t have been able to give her was the right thing to do. No matter how much that may hurt. In fact, I think that’s part of WHY it hurts.

I’m not gonna write you anymore. Because I think I’ve also come to terms with the fact that whether these letters to you are REALLY to you or not, they’re not helping. They’re hurting more than they’re helping. And I’ve done enough things to hurt myself without intention, I should probably stop doing it intentionally, too.

I still hope you’re doing okay. Love you always.

Good morning folks, and welcome to today’s, not statistical map but rather statistical posters, showing how jury and televote top 5s have diverged since 2009. It’s something that’s been on my mind since the jury results were revealed, and after @lonelyislanders ‘ suggestion, I definitely thought I should share this with you all now rather than at the start of the next season. Let’s take a quick trip through the last 11 years of ESC history of jury-televote agreement and discord!

2009 was when juries were introduced - not for nothing, this was after “western” countries’ worst-ever ESC year, where only Sweden qualified from the semi-final. All the jury’s top 5 came from Northern Europe this time, only two of which - Norway and Iceland, coïncided with the televoters’ top 5, though Estonia, the jury’s 5th, came close as the televoters’ 6th. Amongst these tops, the biggest disparities were that of Azerbaijan (getting around 140 points less from the juries than the televoters) on one side and UK and France on the other (getting 110-120 points less from the televoters than the juries.) At least the winner, Rybak’s Fairytale, was shared by both groups - though his win would have been rather less rotund if only juries had decided it.

In 2010, we saw an even greater level of disconnection, as the top 5 of the jury and the televote shared only one song in common - again, thankfully, this was both group’s winner, Germany’s Satellite. Lena romped home in the televote, but she won the jury vote over Belgium’s Me and my guitar by a matter of just two points. The jury put all the other 4 of the public’s top 5 in their top 10 - with the biggest dropper, Turkey, having around 60 points fewer from the juries - but some of the juries’ most loved tracks really didn’t get much of a response from the televote, most notably Israel with a hundred points less than with the jury, ending up only 14th as a result.

2011 is a notoriously fractious year, intriguing for us statistics lovers. Once again, the jury and the televoters shared only one country - only this time, it wasn’t the winner of both groups. Azerbaijan squeaked by an extremely narrow win in the public vote over Sweden, but were only 2nd in the jury vote behind a triumphantly returned Italy. Whilst the public only placed Madness of Love 11th with ~150 points less, the jury love was enough to place it second behind Azerbaijan, whose relatively lukewarm scores with both voting groups gave the Azeris their first win. Some of the distinctions between the tops were brutal this year. UK was 5th with the public, but 4th last with the jurors, dragging them down to 11th place. Austria, 5th with the juries, were 2nd bottom with the public, and only managed 18th with the combined vote. 2011 is kinda one big advert for the current “two separate scores” system for how much one vote cancelled out the other.

In 2012, we at least had agreement on the winner yet again - though, this time, Sweden’s Euphoria absolutely romped home with the juries but got an oft forgotten only marginal win over Russia in the televote - one more douze to the Russian grannies would have handed Party for everybody the public win instead. They got a respectable-enough 11th with the juries, which meant that they weren’t dragged down too much and came in 2nd. Serbia, 3rd in the televote and 2nd with the juries, completed the podium. Once again, the jury dragged Azerbaijan and Turkey down - Love me back was 4th with the televoters, 5th last with the juries, who gave it ~125 pts less. The Turks still managed a top 10 result in 7th place, but it was to be their final ESC participation for now.

In 2013, we saw a very similar situation to 2012 - the public and jury shared a winner, this time, Denmark, and one group gave a song 2nd place, another group 3rd place - this time, that was Azerbaijan, whose Hold me ended up 2nd in the joint votes. The biggest disparities were the jury’s 3rd and 5th, Sweden and Moldova, ending up 18th and 19th in the televote (Moldova ended up 11th and Sweden 14th in the joint vote) and the public’s 4th, Greece, ending up 14th with the juries (but 6th overall).

2014 was the most harmonious year of jury-televote results to date. Both groups agreed on not just the winner, Austria, but also 4 of their top 5 - with the Netherlands, Sweden and Armenia ending up 2nd to 4th as a result. The one disparity was with the fifth member of the top 5. There was not much difference between the jury’s 4th, Hungary, and the public’s rating of it (10th, but only a difference of 30 pts - leaving the Magyars 5th overall), but the distinction was huge with the public’s 5th, Poland‘s My Slowanie, coming fourth last with the jurors, gaining ~140 fewer points, and dragging them down to 14th overall.

2015 brought the drama of Poland’s drag moreso than the harmony of the rest of the results. The jury and televote top 5s had three songs in common, but that belies the drama: the televote’s clear winner, Italy’s Grande Amore, who had 80 points above 2nd placed Russia and almost 90 more than 3rd placed Sweden, were ranked only 6th by the juries, who gave them almost 200 pts fewer than the public, dropping them behind Sweden, the jury winner, and Russia, the jury 3rd place, in the combined rankings. The juries also only put Estonia, the public 5th place, in 11th, but in the combined rankings, it was able to hold onto a spot in the top 10. On the other side, the jury’s 4th place, Australia, and 2nd place, Latvia, got 5th and 6th overall having been placed 6th and 8th with the public.

2016 brought in a new voting system where the jury and televotes would be unchained from one another and two sets of votes given. This was supposed to increase fairness and allow for public and jury favourites to both get recognition - but this occasion was marked with some controversy, when neither the runaway jury winner, Australia (4th in the televote with ~130 votes less than with the juries), nor the public winner, Russia (5th in the jury vote with ~230 points less than with the public) got the win. Instead, Ukraine, a country that had come 2nd in both, took the win. Australia would have won under the old system despite a lukewarm response from the public, so a song winning that did well with both groups was an improvement on the old system in my eyes. Other than big disparities between this eventual top 3, the jury and televote differed on the other two songs that comprised their individual top 5. Each had a song they marked well that the other group marked decently (Jury’s 3rd, France, being 9th with the public and so 6th in the combined vote; public’s 5th, Bulgaria, who were the jury’s 7th and ended up 4th overall) and a song the other marked down radically - the jury’s 4th, Malta, were the public’s 6th last and they ended up 12th overall; the public’s 3rd, Poland, were 2nd last with the juries but ended up 8th. Under the old system, Malta would have ended up 24th and Poland 19th.

2017 brought something we’d never seen before - the juries and televoters agreeing on the exact same top 2, Portugal and Bulgaria, by a convincing distance. They disagreed on pretty much everything else though :v . The public’s 3rd, Moldova, got such a strong score that they ended up 3rd overall despite only being the jury’s 8th - they would have been 5th under the old system. Belgium’s Blanche clinched 4th in the televote and overall vote, despite getting almost 150 fewer points from the juries. The biggest disparity of the year was that of Australia - 4th with the juries, second last with an embarrassing 2 points from the public.

As I had predicted way back in March, 2018 saw a clear televote winner beating out jury vote favourite from a much more divided field. The jury’s #1, Austria, ended up only 13th with the public, but this was enough to get a place on the podium in 3rd place. What’s intriguing is that all 8 songs across the jury and televote top 5 ended up in the top 10 but would have been dragged way down under the old system - like Sweden, second in the jury but fourth last in the televote, still 7th overall, or the third to fifth sequence of Italy, Czechia, Denmark who came 17th, 15th and 20th in the juries but ended up in 5th, 6th and 9th place in the overall tally.

Perhaps 2019 was the craziest year of all. Neither the televote winner, Norway, nor the jury winner, Macedonia, the first jury winner in Eastern Europe by the way, managed to make it into the top 5, getting 200-250 points less from the other group. In Norway’s case, they wouldn’t even have qualified had the juries had their way. The only songs that were shared by both groups’ top 5s, Netherlands and Italy, ended up 1st and 2nd in a similar way to Jamala. All the songs that the juries and televote didn’t share ended up in the top 10 anyway, either because of the force of one element’s vote (Norway 6th and Macedonia 7th despite very mediocre scores in the jury and televote respectively) or because they got decent votes from the other element, as is the case for Switzerland (5th with the public, 7th with the juries - 4th overall), Russia (4th with the public, 9th with the juries - 3rd overall), Sweden (2nd with the juries, 9th with the public - 5th overall) and Azerbaijan (5th with the juries, 8th with the public and overall.) The mathematics still amaze me of this year!

As we set sail for another decade, I wonder whether 2020 will bring similar discord or what would be only our 2nd shared winner since 2015?

Premier League Week 8 Review

Tottenham’s road woes continue

Tottenham have not had fun playing away from home. Dating back to last season, Spurs’s last league away win came against Fulham On Jan. 20, and their last clean sheet away from home came against Cardiff City Jan. 1. Since then, Tottenham have failed to earn three points away from home in the Premier League. This poor trend of results away from North London continued when Tottenham were thoroughly beaten by Brighton 3-0 at the Amex Stadium.

The game started terribly for Spurs. Goalkeeper Hugo Lloris spilled a cross that was pounced upon and finished by Neal Maupay, giving Brighton a 1-0 lead in the third minute. On top of that Lloris fell awkwardly on his arm when coming down from his leap and was stretchered off after receiving medical treatment for nearly five minutes.

However, the injury stoppage didn’t change complection of the game. Brighton constantly took advantage of Tottenham’s high defensive line by passing balls over the top to their pacey forwards Maupay and Aaron Connolly. This strategy worked again in the 32nd minute when 19 year old Connolly scored his first Premier League goal.

And in defense, the Seagulls swarmed to the ball whenever they lost possession. The constant pressing from Brighton resulted in Tottenham losing possession in midfield. This stopped the threat of any attack coming from Spurs. Striker Harry Kane had Tottenham’s only shot on goal in the first half, and this trend continued in the second half.

Brighton amassed 17 shots and 13 scoring chances created by the end of the game, compared to Tottenham’s eight shots and six scoring chances. And most of Tottenham’s chances came in the final 10 minutes of the game when Brighton were already up by three goals.

This loss comes at the end of a string of poor losses for Tottenham. They were knocked out of the League Cup by League 2 side Colchester United. Then Tottenham were thrashed at home 7-2 by Bayern Munich in the Champions League this past Tuesday. And finally rounded off by this poor display against Brighton. One has to wonder how much longer manager Mauricio Pochitino has left with Tottenham is the team continue to underperform.  

Liverpool win their 17th in a row

Jürgen Klopp’s team are now one win away from tying the all-time first division record for most consecutive wins. That record is held by the 2018/19 Manchester City team that ripped off 18 wins on their way to winning their second consecutive title.

Liverpool’s impressive run might have started at the end of last season, but the Reds have taken a maximum 24 points from their opening eight games this season. What’s made the start to the season so impressive is Liverpool’s resilience.

In last year’s match at home against Leicester on Jan. 30, Liverpool opened the scoring through Sadio Mane and Leicester equalized. However, the game ended in a draw, one of seven that Liverpool collected last year. If any of those seven draws were wins, Liverpool would have won the title. Instead they finished one point behind Manchester City.

This year seems to be different. There have been plenty of games where Liverpool have been sluggish, but they still manage to win. Against Newcastle on Sept. 14 Liverpool conceded in the 7th minute but rallied to score three unanswered goals and win. Last week against Sheffield United the Reds were frustrated for 70 minutes before a Dean Henderson error gifted Gino Wijnaldum and Liverpool a 1-0 victory. There were instances in the second half of their game against Chelsea on Sept. 22 that Liverpool could have blown their 2-0 lead. However the Reds escaped Stamford Bridge with a 2-1 victory over their top four challengers.

Despite not hitting the electric heights of last season the results say that Liverpool are one of the best teams in the League. They’ve scored 20 goals, which is the second best in the league, and conceded a league-best six goals. And winning eight from eight speaks for itself. After a week off because of the international break, Liverpool return to the Premier League on Oct. 20 with a chance to reach 18 wins in a row when they visit bitter rivals Manchester United.

Leicester City stake their top four claim

Of course a loss is a loss, and that means Leicester City walked away from their visit to Anfield with zero points in a 2-1 loss to Liverpool. And it looked as if former Liverpool Brendan Rodgers’s return to Anfield would end in a draw. However after Liverpool’s James Milner dispatched the winning penalty in the 95th minute, Leicester City left Liverpool with nothing.

If there is a positive to come from this loss, it’s that Leicester are genuine top four contenders. Before the game, the Foxes were in 3rd place with 14 points. Their attack, led by Jamie Vardy, had 13 goals, and even after losing star defender Harry Maguire, the Foxes had only conceded 5 goals. Even after this loss, Leicester is still tied for the 2nd best defense and tied for the 3rd most prolific attack.

Before the season Leicester were one of the few teams that would be challenging to break into the top six. However, if Leicester continue to perform the they could find themselves fighting for a Champions League spot in the top four.

The Foxes only losses this season have come away from home. A 1-0 loss to Manchester United and then this loss to Liverpool. Meanwhile, Leicester have won three of their four games at home by a combined score line of 8-2. They have also drawn against fellow top six challengers Wolves and Chelsea, along with beating Tottenham.

Right-back Ricardo Pereira has been outstanding to start the season. The Portuguese defender has two goals and is the club’s second leading scorer behind Vardy, who has five goals.Then there is attacking-midfielder James Maddison pulls the strings in attack. The England international has two goals and two assists in the opening eight games. Maddison plays just behind Vardy in attack and operates the space in between opposition midfields and defenses. His goal against Liverpool is an example of the dangerous attacking positions Maddison has constantly found himself in to start the season.

After the international break Leicester return home to the KP Stadium to play Burnley. With the early season struggles of Manchester United and Tottenham, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Leicester challenge Arsenal and Chelsea for the last two Champions League spots.

Wolves shock Manchester City

Manchester City had to match Liverpool’s result from Saturday if they wanted to remain five points behind the leaders in the title race. And after Liverpool were tested by Leicester City, the Citizens had a difficult test of their own, hosting last year’s top six upstarts Wolves. However, Wolves have not had a great start to the season, taking only seven points from their first seven games.

So it wasn’t surprising to see Man City dominate the early stages of the game. So much so that the game was played almost exclusively in Wolves’s defensive half. But there were signs that Wolves could sucker-punch Man City on the counter attack. There were two instances in the first 20 minutes where Wolves squandered a one-on-one opportunity.

Wolves striker Patrick Cutrone skewed his shot wide in the 5th minute and his strike-partner Raul Jimenez had his powerful shot blocked by Man City’s fill-in centerback Fernandinho in the 19th minute. Meanwhile, in defense Wolves sat back and frustrated Man City as much as possible. And it was working as the game went to halftime scoreless.

The second half was not much different from the first. Man City continued to dominate possession, with Wolves looking to catch out the champions on the counter attack. And that’s what happened in the 80th minute. Jimenez and Adama Traore combined on counterattack to give Wolves a one-goal lead. Wolves would double their lead with a carbon copy of the first in the 94th minute. Once again it was Jimenez assisting Traore on the counterattack.

Both teams seem to be going in opposite directions right now. Wolves have now climbed up to 11th place, and are just four points behind 6th place. While Man City remain in 2nd, but are eight points behind 1st place Liverpool, and just one point ahead of 3rd place Arsenal. There are still 30 games left to be played, but this one could have huge title implications for Man City.

Goal of the week: Sebastien Haller vs. Crystal Palace

The opening goal in the London derby between West Ham and Crystal Palace was a wonderful team goal. West Ham’s Sebastien Haller scored his fourth goal of the season at the end of a slick passing move that started back in West Ham’s half of the field. There were nutmegs, one-touch passes, through balls, quick dribbling and an instinctive finish. Just watch the full highlight. Artistry from the Hammers.
