heyyyyy remember this series? yknow, hermitcraft x the mechanisms, the one i keep thinking ill be able to post about once a week or so? well its actually apparently more of once a month instead haha. anyways heres cleo as ashes! rambling under the cut as usual!

ashes o'reilly, the one who cleo is based off, has mechanical lungs after getting betrayed in the mob and killed off in a burning building, relevant song backstory here or a live one here in all its 2012 480p recording glory ft jonnys trademark gravelly voice and ashes being ashes (aka being ridicoulously cool 😳), its called lucky sevens, hit it.

but cleo's story is a bit different w a different backstory (found dead alone mysteriously, gets their heart replaced) but they have a similar vibe :) aka badass people who can kick your ass and also probably commit copious amounts of arson and/or murder

Sorry, this is probably a heavy thing to put on, feel free to delete if this is too much for you to handle, I promise it won't upset me. I'm really considering suicide. I have a lot going on in my personal life and now that my eyes have been opened to how much the world hates women I find it difficult to cope. I truly don't know how to navigate the world knowing half the population wants to cut me up, use my reproductive organs, rape me, kill me, slather me in makeup, mutilate me, beat me, degrade and humiliate me just for being female. I can't trust or make friends anymore. I feel hopeless. Idk what I expect you to say, I just need to get this out and know that at least one person sees it and understands.

I don't know how helpful this will be, but I hope you know that I've been feeling the same way as well. It's part of why I haven't really been super active lately. I've been going through it as well, so I at the very least, hope you don't think you're alone.

This is a very shitty world and we are in this strange limbo right now of things either staying shit or getting shittier. And it's important to me that I don't give you advice that wouldn't personally help me. I think the best advice I can give you is this:

You're not going crazy. This hopelessness you feel is happening in record numbers. And your feelings about all this are completely valid. I hate that they're valid. I wish I could tell you, "But why do you think that's what's happening?" I wish i could be indignant and suggest that perhaps you were just looking too deeply into nothing. But you're not, and that's the biggest curse in being aware of the world around you.

I don't have the perfect answer for you. I wish I could write three paragraphs worth of inspiration and you hit me up two minutes later and tell me that after reading all that, now you want to conquer the world and nothing was going to stand in your way. I don't even have the perfect answer for myself.

I guess the best answer I can give you is that if you left, the world would just be a little more shittier. It would have just a little less sparkle to it that it is already sparse on. Someone's life (including mine, now that I know you exist), will dim in its quality if you were to do it. That hope that everyone grabs onto will lose just a little more grip without you. The world itself would shift in a way that isn't perceivably to you or me.

And that's not to say that you would be selfish to do it. An argument that I absolutely hate. But life would just go from 480p to 360p.

You should stay because what you are contemplating is going to come anyway. I have a post somewhere on here where i talk about how if you are suicidal, the best way to go about doing it is to live. Go out and live more than you ever have. That's when most people die. When they are out living and something out of their control happens. I would rather you die while ziplining with friends than crying and alone in a bathroom.

This sounds harsh, but I would rather all of this than give you some bullshit, "Oh, it's okay, sweetie. Have you talked to anyone? What about therapy? Did you do breathing exercises?"

You should go out and live, anon. And that doesn't even mean spend money. A full life isn't inevitable, but death is.

The history of my video capture woes

(This post was originally released exclusively via Patreon on May 23, 2019, and is now here as a test for long-form text content! This post also contains links to old archived videos from my YouTube channel. Most of these videos were made when I was of a young age, and do not reflect the current quality of my videos or any of my views and opinions today.)

Everyone probably has that one system that shaped their childhood or teenage years. My childhood systems are the Wii and DS, but the 3DS is probably the most important and influential system I've ever had so far, both to my teenage years and for my YouTube hobby.

Since I got my very first 3DS on July 11th, 2011 (I THINK that was the date), I've been being to make videos with it on my then barebones YouTube channel.

I've captured game footage before this though, and it was...bad. Holding a camera up to a TV looks and sounds substantially worse than sticking it in front of a 3DS screen and speakers.

My first 3DS related video was released on July 14th, 2011 and was just the QR Code of my Mii and my friend code. My Mii has barely changed since then (and tbh probably isn't the most accurate representation of me but I've gotten too used to it).

My first video that actually used footage from a 3DS is a gameplay video of Super Mario Bros. back when the 3DS Ambassador Program dropped:

I just balanced a small digital camera we had on a pencil sharpener as a support. I think I still have that camera, but it's probably buried in a closet somewhere with a dead battery I can't find the right charger for. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

At that point, I don't think I've even heard of the concept of capture cards yet. In 2011 they were still in the prototyping phase, and a few well-known YouTubers at that time (cobanermani456 comes to my mind just now) simply stuck HD cameras in front of 3DS screens to capture footage.

So with my dingy little digital camera, I couldn't really do much with the setup. Of course, at that time I was just holding my 3DS in front of the camera resulting in some shaky screen images (often also angled so I could see the screen clearly and my reflection wouldn't show) This lasted ALL THE WAY until September 2012. Oof.

Around the end of 2011 I switched to a different camera which apparently made things worse because now my videos ended up in 240p. I have no idea what is up with that. That's also when Super Mario 3D Land came out which I played the hell out of and made some tips & tricks videos about (that was probably the niche of the early years of my channel if I had to describe that period.)

Also at one point I tried capturing direct audio by using an aux cord but the headphone jack of the main computer I use for editing at the time was broken, so it didn't really end up well.

By August 2012 I figured out a way to stabilize my 3DS footage: stacking 3DS game boxes and putting my 3DS on top. Over the years I've used different other items to hold my 3DS up like smartphone boxes and stuff, but 3DS cases are pretty reliable. I think at that point I've also internalized how many 3DS game boxes to stack up in my mind like they're a unit of measurement. You can see this in action in one of my first videos on Pushmo:

By now you've probably noticed the wacky wave effect you get when you put an LCD in front of a low res camera. That'll stick around for a long time.

Anyway, this stuck around for a while as I pumped out some random NSMB2 videos and posted my first ever Let's Play of Super Mario 3D Land. In terms of video editing, 99% of the time I just uploaded the raw footage because the videos were fine without editing at the time.

I got a 3DS XL on around September 2012, but was still stacking it on top of game boxes and other stuff. It resulted in the screen placement never being consistent, but I was content with it at the time. Sometimes I also managed to capture both screens at once.

Then came everyone's favorite game, Paper Mario: Sticker Star. I keep saying the game's an integral part of some of my channel's very early growth, because I churned out quite a few GameXplain-like tip videos about it, such as how to get the Barrel sticker (you have to get it exclusively from Broozer enemies that show up in some airship enemy encounters). Arguably my biggest 'hit' at that point came when I beat Bowser without using Kersti:

This video is super grainy looking because I was recording my 3DS XL screen with my 3DS cameras. I have no idea if my regular camera was out of commission or something but it happened. A bunch of people liked it.

At this point I'm just super used to this method of recording 3DS footage now. It was certainly a lot easier to set up, record and post videos more regularly, but looking back, it didn't really make my channel stand out too much. There isn't really any incentive to watch a guy stick a small camera in front of a 3DS for video guides over a professional Let's Player using capture cards.

On March 28th 2013 I posted this video of some Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon footage in 1080p! I believe this footage was recorded with a smartphone that belonged to my parents at that time. The high quality was able to get rid of the wavy patterns on-screen but I never adopted it, either because it was too much a hassle to set up or I wouldn't always get access to it that easily.

I went back to my tried-and-true regular method and a bunch of people were asking me what I used to record footage. So I recorded this video with my 3DS:

Yeah I set my camera (a PowerShot S95) on an iPhone box and my 3DS XL on a dictionary. Those were the items that just happened to have the perfect height. Sometimes in life you gotta improvise.

In May 2013 I uploaded some stereoscopic 3D videos of 3DS games. This required...yes, putting the 3DS XL in front of a 3DS with the 3D effect on. (It wasn't the other way around because the 3DS screen was smaller and more suitable for recording purposes). It sorta worked, but y'know, low quality and everything. It was a neat idea though seeing as not a lot of stereoscopic 3D videos of 3DS games existed at that time.

I also tried direct audio recording again with another video!

I have no idea how I managed to get this to work, seeing as I record footage in my own room then edit the footage on the home computer in my living room outside, but I guess the method was to record the direct audio through a notebook computer situated next to me, then taking that audio and combining it through the camera footage on my home computer. It was probably too much work for me at that time.

Alright, it's fast-forward time, you've seen me do this recording setup for far too long now. 3 years to be exact.

In 2014, after watching Chuggaaconroy's Let's Play of Kid Icarus: Uprising, I picked up the game and it included a 3DS stand! I then tried to incorporate it into my recording setup so I would no longer have to memorize what specific combination of everyday household items I can use to prop my 3DS up. Here's the first video using it:

And then that's just what I basically used for the next 3 years as well. If it ain't broke (?), don't fix it.

Small interlude: We got a new camera during 2014, which is actually the one camera I still use today in core videos! [2022 editor's note: I've switched to a smartphone camera since.] In October, during a small event I did called Sakurai Month, I gave it a whirl in recording 3DS footage with a Kid Icarus: Uprising video.

And it looked REALLY good! The downside is I had to use a tripod to stand the camera up, which took away a lot of space for me to sit and see the screen properly, plus I wasn't able to record the bottom screen due to size constraints, and (I'm not 100% sure if this was done for the KIU video, but) the audio recording on that camera is a bit crappy, so I had to use my regular digital camera alongside it just so I can get the best audio. Even now in my core videos, the voices for the off-screen footage is recorded with my smartphone voice recorder.

Improvise. Adapt. Overcome.

But other than that, I've just used the ol' trusty PowerShot S95 for the rest of my 3DS videos. Occasionally I do some editing to get both screens at a decent size such as for my Smash 3DS videos, but that's about it.

And yeah, I used this method all the way up to early 2017. By that time, I was finishing up my high school finals, and did some reorganization in the apartment. I've also started covering topics other than 3DS games, such as other Nintendo hardware like the Game Boy systems (and the Switch was on the horizon as well!) so I felt that the quality of those videos clashed a bit with videos where I stick a camera in front of a 3DS screen.

Still, I had a running LP series at the time (Rhythm Heaven Megamix), and I tried using the new camera I got to record some footage as well, but it just wasn't cutting it for me. I felt that using these high quality cameras to do more comprehensive videos like filming hardware shots and the like was a better idea than using it to just do what I did for the past 6 years.

And thus the idea of the core videos were born!

I also got a used Elgato Capture Card on October 2017, allowing me to grab footage from the Switch and even some older systems. But to think I was done covering the 3DS would be dead wrong, as there was still a lot of potential topics I wanted to cover for the 3DS, just in a more sophisticated manner instead of just pointing a camera at a screen.

This gave birth to ideas for videos such as 'How Super Mario 3D Land Saved The 3DS', but to make those videos a reality, I would either have to nab footage by other people from the Internet (which I generally try to avoid unless absolutely necessary), or use a homebrew-enabled New 3DS which had a method of recording gameplay footage to a PC application over Wi-Fi.

While that sounded reasonable, it wasn't the best solution, as the video was often very choppy and had a few visual artifacts depending on your connection speed. The best videos I could get out of it were around the 20-30fps range. You can see a sample of homebrew 3DS capturing in this tweet:

But still, it was better than off-screen footage in my opinion, so I did my footage recording with homebrew and went on my merry way...

Then I learned that Katsukity, the sole provider of 3DS capture cards at that time (since Loopy had stopped orders) had a price drop.

I took the hit and grabbed a 2DS from their store with a capture card pre-installed for 300 USD. Compared to using homebrew, using capture cards allowed for me to capture both a higher resolution and framerate, as well as allowing for capturing DS games (which isn't possible with homebrew). To sort of alleviate the cost, I sold the 2DS I had at the time to a real life friend who coincidentally didn't have a 3DS and wanted to get into its game library.

And since then, I think it's served me really well! Of course, as of this post there's really only like two core videos that are DS/3DS-focused, but there are still plenty of topics I want to talk about. The recent Photo Dojo video is also possibly the first ever non-Nintendo YouTube video about Photo Dojo in which footage was recorded with a capture card!

It has its downsides, such as the direct audio capturing being a little wonky unless you use an audio cable (which would be a bit of a hassle with my current setup), but I feel like it will still be serving me for quite a few years to come. [2022 editor's note: still going strong!]

Since then, Katsukity has gone bankrupt (sadly unsurprising given the REALLY niche market of their products), and there isn't really a new source of 3DS capture cards at this time. Hopefully the resale values for them won't skyrocket like crazy, but if you're dead set on getting one no matter the cost, aside from second-hand listings, Merki (the European distributor for 3DS capture cards) still have old 3DS XL capture cards in stock, but you'll have to ship your system to them, so the shipping costs might add up.

But for creators who are starting out, if you want to make content using the 3DS, you can either go the homebrew capture route (if your 3DS is of the "New" variety) or just use a smartphone camera, since most can do at least 1080p nowadays. I mean, I got by with using a crappy camera for 6 years. :]

But anyway, hope this gave you a fun little insight into my history of struggling with capturing handheld footage! I think it's a nice example of equipment quality not being the most important thing for creators, even with simple tools and software, you can still make content that's pretty dang good. Even now, my setup is still evolving, and your support means I will be able to improve it through things such as better tripods and microphones, as well as more things of interest to cover, so I must thank you all once again!

Mystic Messenger Saeran’s AE Thoughts (.......And Prayers..) #Spoilerz

Hello, I just finished Saeran’s after ending and I have a lot of things to say and I am going to write it down while I'm still all keyed up about it.

First of all… Please DO NOT ask me how much money I spent to finish this as fast as I did…. I’m grown but my bank account is certainly going to have a good ole fashioned CHUCKLE at this….. It’s been a long quarantine I deserve a lil happiness as a treat methinks!

I have been playing this absolutely insane game since I think 2016? When I first started playing the deep routes had JUST come out I think? And I was just finishing up high school and am now a college grad...lmao

I’ve played all routes at least once except Jaehee but i’ve seen walkthroughs of her route (I’ve heard it makes you hate Jumin and he’s my favorite so um. hehe). V’s and Saeran’s routes I found to be so emotionally intense and just….a lot and I've been waiting a long ass god damn time for this after ending okay…. I would theorize and make up an ending in my head but i’m no writer so it was hard to figure out lol. I’m a Jumin stan mostly but I love everybody and yeah I should probably play that jumin dlc too but I need like a DAY to recover from Saeran’s AE. Enough about me HERE are my thoughts on it overall

Major Saeran AE Spoilers under da cut!

Can we please discuss V showing up to the C+R conference room with basically chloroform and made everybody Pass Out like??? I was alone in my room at like midnight just SCREAMING at my phone???? And the creepy ass CG ???? It’s like that gif of sarah paulson from ahs being like “I put arsenic in the wine….and the pasta”

Anyway I screamed at V a lot during this process!!

Loved RFA being sweet and kind to saeran (before V fucking drugged them…)

This is such common V behavior “I have to do it all myself...there’s no other way..” GIRL SHUT UPPP You do this every route....

Can we HAVE A DISCUSSION ABOUT JUMIN HAN BEING THE BEST CHARACTER IN THE GAME AND HE LOST EVERYTHING IN THIS AE……. he just took the blame and moved on jumin what the hell….. I love him so much r we serious? He watched his 2 closest friends betray him in the worst way and found out abt how Rika abused Saeyoung and Saeran???? I felt just AWFUL. Terrible ...Terrible….

Rika’s change in demeanor from Saeran's actual route is certainly a Choice. I find her much more bearable this time around and unfortunately i think I was too nice to her and ended up with a bad end LMFAO

I was happy to see Saeran stand up for himself and become stronger and confident. You go king!

The CG of Yoosung laying in Zen’s lap is everything to me…

HOWEVER YUP I sure did get a bad ending and I was so mad fdsafdskfdhsf ! (I would be happy to clarify how I got the good one the second time.) MAKE SURE To SAVE EARLY in days 2 and 3 bc the branches on day 4 is where the bad end will show up. For me it was the first day 4 chat and then a story mode titled “SAVIOR”.... If you see that RUN FOR THE HILLS!!

I was so mad! But I had saved in day 2 and replayed and MANAGED to get good end

I’m obsessed with everyone calling V and Rika “that psychotic couple” like…..its true its true…

No those two are so toxic… V’s route was torture watching them go on and on about the sun like yo can yall just call each other babe like normal people.

I respect straight people but not V and RIka that shit was just wrong… Straight marriage was a mistake

Oh lord i also FULLY Forgot Rika killed the twins’ mother…. Yeah that scene was um Certainly a lot but it needed to happen eventually

Like it’s good they know but damn that storyline is just so bleak

I think it was satisfying TO A DEGREE….To see Rika understand where she was wrong, why she was wrong, fess up and even APOLOGIZE! I was very surprised.

Saeran and Saeyoung are Certainly twins with the amount that those two self sacrifice in every route MY GOD…..

The scene with Jumin talking to his father and the other scene of him praying oh my god I cannot tell you how happy I was to see him begin to understand and address his own feelings in a route that was not his own. My main problem with Jumin’s route has always been the trapping MC in his penthouse aspect.. This way Jumin understands love and emotions without being overly possessive !!! YAY also loved seeing him be on good terms with his dad who was surprisingly profound

That last Story mode was Really a Lot…. and Strange things occurred which I will get into in just a minute

Jumin becoming a politician is so funny but ngl … i see it.

Yoosung going to france to study pastries ok king I see u! (it made more sense to me than the vet thing anyway)

I was happy with how they handled it for the most part. I think Cheritz heard our feedback about V’s after ending and was like okay….let’s try something different

HOWEVER

Saeran…. Sweet kind saeran… IS SO AFFECTIONATE HAHA….

He must have said I love you like 300 times…..very mushy gushy flowery language...and maybe that’s just his personality but for me it was like eating cake with buttercream cake. It means well, but god damn is it sugary and going to cause a stomach ache later.

He was just… SO MUCH! SO forward and ON all the time in his affections. I honestly felt kind of smothered and by day 3 and 4 I was sooooo over all the compliments… King you’ve come a very long way, but ur still putting MC on a pedestal and probably need to see a therapist.

Nextly….Rika and V….. Naw that knock out gas really ...that hurt lol. Coming from “I would do anything to protect RFA” V? Idk like…. EYE felt betrayed reading that. It was just hurtful. I can’t even imagine how the members would have felt as they were passing out. It was just so cruel. I suppose I understand why but like?? Just TERRIBLE

Them being in cahoots with the agency and the prime minister..HUH??? Also too much

V just felt so irresponsible like I do understand that he ended up in a weird web of secrets that’s hard to untangle but he’s so fucking stubborn he’s SO stubborn it makes me insane. Like sir… It seems like in other routes he wanted to try to protect Rika and the RFA.. But in this AE it seems more to me that he was like yeah i’m protecting Rika and That’s It… so fucking hurtful to me. Both of y’all apologize ESPECIALLY to the twins and Jumin..

The forgiveness thing…… Okay so I think some people will not like that Saeran decided to “forgive” the people who hurt him (Rika, V, Saejoong, his mother). I would point out that I actually think this was approached somewhat well. He says at one point that he doesn’t think they’re good or bad, just people. I think he sounded mature and like this was the way for him personally to accomplish his healing process. Would I have loved for Saeran to flip V and Rika off and kick Saejoong off a cliff? Yea I really would. But like…. If that’s what HE needs to do to heal then who am I to judge?

HOWEVER…. Everything Eye just said goes out the window when the scenes at the end with Saejoong come up… I was PERPLEXED. Like why did he HUG his deranged father who just kicked the shit out of him??? Also all the chat options that MC has with him r like blah blah you’re like this because no one loves you were so corny to me LMFAOOOO?

AND WHEN HE WAS IN THE ROOM LATER WITH SAERAN… i’m sorry but if that were me I would have called a nurse to deck his ass. Cool he turned himself in YOU SUCK SOOOO BAD AND I NEVER WANT YOU TO COME NEAR SAEYOUNG AND SAERAN AGAIN THANKS.

*scratches ass* I wish I got to see saeyoung and saeran finally sit down and have that first conversation after a long time and hug CG but the ending was fine I GUESS….. I dont care about ROMANCE I want those boys to be happy brothers together

Anyway that was really emotionally exhausting but I fr think I got it out of my system after literal years… And I can rest in peace knowing the choi twins are happy. THATS ALL I WANTED TO KNOW!!!!

Hey have you ever wanted an AU where Bitty didn’t play hockey and instead decided to become an international country/pop star like Hannah Montana?

No? Just me? Well. Let me elaborate and win you over

(Best quotes: “Fuck you and the horse you rode in on” “If I discovered the identity of Richard Coach I would close my eyes and carry him to safety like the train passengers did in Spiderman 2″ )

Bitty has always been a performer. There is a whole mess of VHS tapes from his formative years where he’d perform for his family. The video of Bitty wearing a christmas garland around his neck like a festive Boa, his father’s shades, and performing for a group of stuffed animals had become a staple of the Bittle’s Christmas.

Bitty would never be ashamed of those VHS tapes. No matter how embarrassing he thought they were, if it weren’t for his mother uploading them onto Youtube for easier online sharing, he wouldn’t have become a hit. He wouldn’t have gotten to perform on Ellen at 11, win his first Grammy at 14, and all in all be given the wonderful life he’d been given.

Except Eric Bittle does not get the credit for any of it. That’s all Richard Coach--Country turned Pop superstar.

The connection between Bittle and Coach was made for a multitude of reasons:

1. His mother was incredibly weary of posting private information onto a public website like Youtube,

2. Most of the 480p videos were of a baby Bitty dressed up in “costumes”, and his mother always called him “Dicky” in them.

3. Richard Coach has black hair, dreamy green eyes, and is the American Everyman. According to literally everyone in Madison, Bittle is blond and funny.

Regardless. This was his life. Despite the constant stress, Bittle had grown to appreciate the distinct separation between his two lives.

And this is how he finds himself sitting in an interview promoting his final album before going on an extended hiatus for school. For something so final, it was fairly casual.

“So Richard, sources say that you’re a soon-to-be college man, but those sources said nothing about which one” Bitty, who is comfortably nestled into his Richard persona, laughs, “I’m kinda proud to beat the researchers. I was worried about that” “So I guess this means you won’t be hinting at which one you are going to” He nods “Unfortunately that is true. I put a lot of thought into this decision--going to college that is. And as much as I love my fans and my life, I want to focus on being a more or less normal kid at college for a while.” “Well, that is certainly a good dream to have but...”The woman pauses, trying to think of a good way to put it, “You are already one of the most famous faces and biggest names in the world. What steps are you taking to obtaining that ‘normal’ experience?” “I’m sorry? I don’t know what you mean” “Let me give an example. How can you be sure that your peers --or professors-- won’t freak out when they see Richard Coach is on the class roster for Math 101?”

“For starters, if you think I’m taking any kind of math course you are mistaken. Fans won’t have to worry about seeing me there.” They both laugh before he continues. “And secondly, I’m not going to be using my stage name while at school. I never have, so why would I now?” Bitty knows he’s made a mistake the second it slips out of his mouth. The woman’s eyes widen with shock briefly for a moment before she regains her composure and grins like a shark that had smelled blood.

She leans in, “Richard Coach is a stage name?”

“Um” is all Bitty can say. He grips the sides of his jeans until his fists are white with tension. “I thought that you all knew that already?”

She shakes her head. He looks around to the crew briefly. They shake their head. Even his manager (slash mother) in the corner, shakes her head.

“Oh” he sighs. “Well it is.” “So what you’re saying is that nobody in your private life knows who you are? There is a high school full of students who don’t know they just graduated with, well, you? How is that possible?” He shrugs his shoulders “No one was looking, I guess.”

“Kudos to you for keeping the lid on that secret for so long” is what she says. But all Bitty can hear is her saying scoop of the year. “But I worry that your fans will take this information and turn it into a scavenger hunt” At this point, Bitty is full of rage. He wants to say I don’t see you offering to cut this part of the interview, or people who deliberately try to out people’s secrets for personal gain are not, and never will be, my fans, or even just fuck you and the horse you rode in on.

Instead, he politely smiles and continues to talk about how he hopes the deal he made with his record company will satiate any need to know about his personal life. In any other world, it should have.

The deal with the record company is that Richard does a few remote talk show appearances during the semester. He is also encouraged to keep up with a blog where he talks about his life and posts at least one video of him singing monthly.

It should have been more than enough to keep the fans interested during his time away, instead Bitty found that they fueled the flames.

Three days after the interview, Bitty sits hunched over his laptop on the floor of a half unpacked dorm room. It’s like a car crash, the way he can’t stop himself from constantly refreshing and switching from tab to tab of every social media and news site that is talking about his interview, his secret life, and the video he posted to youtube literally an hour ago.

He looked up to the bed, where Senor Bun wearing his Richard wig is sitting--judging him. Seven years is a long time to keep a secret more or less unintentionally, but it only takes a moment for it to all bite you in the ass.

At least they don’t know that it’s a wig, Bitty thinks as he runs his hand through his naturally sandy blond hair. That had been able to divert a lot of the attention from him to the plethora of copycats and lookalikes claiming to be him.

“If I discovered the identity of Richard Coach I would close my eyes and carry him to safety like the train passengers did in Spiderman 2″

“Dude, everyone on that train in saw Spiderman’s face” “Wh--That’s not the point! The point is that the folks on the train weren’t dicks to Spiderman. We can’t be dicks to Coachie”

“Aight. That’s fair, but irrelevant because there’s no way that Coacher is here at Samwell” “We could see him on an away game”

“Holtzy I don’t think that a boy born that deep in the south has ever even set foot in an ice rink” The voice says. It sounds like they’re right outside of his dorm. There’s a knock on the door. Bitty jumps. “Open up bro!” Shit. Bitty scurries off of the floor,grabs his wig and senor bun and (gently) hurls them across the room into the closet. He slams the closet door shut, grabs his tote full of pies, and opens the door. “Hey fellas!”

Part 2 - Broadway’s Dance of the Vampires Commentary

Act 2

• And here we are again, after taking a week or two to recover from act 1

• I have no idea what’s going to happen but I’m gonna finish what I started, no matter what it takes

• Ok the video is ready, I don’t think I am but here we go

• Ok well the opening music was more like titanic than tanz

• Ooh ok we have lots of vague figures on stairs, probably vampires but it’s hard to tell with the 480p video quality

• Hmmm are we having a reprise of totale finsternis?

• That staircase is looking

• Glad to see the audience is cracking up again at the use of total eclipse of the heart

• Those couple guys are having a great time

• They’re like

• Good for them

• I would be annoyed that this whole thing is seen as funny when the original scene is really cool but hey this whole thing is just one big old parody so what could I expect

• They replaced doch die with buuuuuut which does NOT work at all

• You need two syllables to separate the two notes

• This is awful

• They changed the tune a tiny bit which is fine I guess, not as satisfying though

• His voice is good. With good lyrics and the original character, he could have done it really well

• I hate that potential was wasted

• Which, again, goes for the whole trainwreck of a musical

• I can’t make out all of the lyrics and I’m not sure if that’s a mild annoyance or a blessing

Prime Hunting Season Starting Soon

Official hunting season for 2018 is long over. With another season in 2019 just around the corner. I visited what was to be the final yard sale of the 2018 season on October 25th 2018. A brave older couple was downsizing and held a yard sale when it was 36 degrees out. Unfortunately, they were not gamers. Nor did they have any games from any kids or grandchildren. They did have some stereo equipment, and a surround sound speaker system. No music, or blu rays either though. The stereo was a shelf system, not a component type unit like I would be looking for to match the Sony TC-WE805S tape deck that I got at the start of the season. An all around bust of a sale for me. I wished them luck and headed on my way.

I closed out the last post with the PS3 find from 09.01.18. Giving me access to HD console gaming. A new era for this Old Nintendo Nerd. I do primarily game at 240p being that NES, SNES and N64 are the consoles nearest and dearest to my heart. GameCube and Wii weigh in at 480p at their absolute best, still falling short of HD. But now, with a PS3, we’ve got 720p gaming (mostly, some is 1080p). I have no problem with collecting a little for this system, I’ve heard good things about Uncharted, The Last of Us, and a smattering of a few other games that I will be looking out for.

Before we get into finds for the last, freakin 5 months, I have sold a couple things since the last post, and I should hope so, since its been forever! Right? Sorry. Life.

I had a bundle of 16 total PS1 games that I let go of. Titles were the likes of Syphon Filter, Driver, Test Drive 5, Rainbow Six, and a smattering of other luke warm titles. I’ve posted all of them up here at one point or another, so you have an idea. They were nothing I’d ever want to play, and since I only paid around $16 total for all of them at $0.99 a piece, I thought if I could average around $2 a pop on eBay id be doing OK doubling my money. They all added up to a value of about $95 on pricecharting. Now granted, that is fantasy prices, even those prices aren’t the prices the sellers MAKE when sold. Ultimately they all went for $52.99 as a lot. After fees and shipping it netted me $38.44, which comes to right about $2.40 each. 40 cents higher than I was hoping to get per game. Not bad!

The end of the last post left us with $9.73. Put that in with the $38.44 for a total of $48.17.

Additionally, I sold a disc only copy of Animal Crossing on eBay that I had laying around for $18.99. This came to $13.58 in pocket after fees and shipping. Tack that on and we now have $61.75 game hunting money moving into this post.

I’ll be honest, it’s been thin, it is cold here in the winter, there are no yard sales through the cold months at all. Places like Arizona or Florida where you could sale year round are lucky. Not here. Even donations to Goodwill slow down significantly as well, making the hunting quite a bit more difficult. I had zero finds for basically all of September. Which was surprising, it is really the last warm month here with temps still reaching 70′s and sometimes low 80s. But it wasn’t until the end of the month I ran across something at the Goodwill.

De Blob - Found 09.29.2018 at Goodwill

Disc, case and Manual all in pretty good shape, but nothing to write home about. If it were June and prime hunting season and I’d been getting finds, I probably wouldn’t have bought it.

But I did, and it cost me $3.21. Takes the total down to $58.54.

Next up was the first official game for my new PS3. Again nothing fantastic, but at least it rang up at the DVD price instead of the game price. Saved me $1.

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue Found 10.04.2018 at Goodwill

Minty fresh.

But, again nothing special, not even a full game. But I sat and played it for an hour anyway. Probably already had $2 worth of fun with the thing. Despite being labeled $5.99, they still only charged me the DVD rate of $1.99. Hah! So, $2.13 out of the till leaves us with $56.41.

The next find was literally the next day. Different Goodwill though.

Grand Theft Auto San Andreas on PS2 and Grand Theft Auto IV on PS3 - Found 10.05.2018 at Goodwill

This was absolutely minty fresh as well. Both of them were. Discs, cases, and manuals / maps. I wasn’t going to buy San Andreas but when I saw that it was in as good of shape as it was, and had a bonus inside, I couldn’t not get it.

First time I’ve found a game in Goodwill with a Memory Card inside. Those are $8 to $10 each right there, and I am a little short on memory cards, so I had to get it. The game was technically the bonus, I bought it for the memory card. Heh.

Great shape for two Goodwill games, they look brand new. Plus I heard that while GTA V is superior graphically, GTA IV is better with exploration, in that you can enter buildings, and enemy AI is a lot better as well. So I thought, what the hell?

Those two ran $6.42 together taking us to $49.99.

The next find was from 10.15.2018, from Goodwill, another few halfway decent games. Borderlands, Alice, Dante’s Inferno, Marvel Vs. Capcom 3, and a Disc only copy of Skyrim. It was actually in the same case as Alice, just under the Alice Disc for some reason. I wasn’t arguing with that so I left it there.

PS3 Lot - Found 10.15.2018 at Goodwill

Sucks about the two basically disc only games. Marvel Vs Capcom and Skyrim. One being from Best Buy pre-owned. The other hiding under Alice in the same case. not that I’m complaining about that one. Free game? Nothing wrong with that. How Best Buy even gets disc only copies of stuff is beyond me. Game system trades or returns with games still in them? I wasn’t aware they did pre-owned anything.

In any case... They are all in good shape. Minimal labels and damage.

Especially Alice. I dig the art on this one, and it is in very good condition.

As for Skyrim, well, I had a spare case laying around for FIFA 09, and I figured, why not print out a cover for it. I couldn’t give a shit less about FIFA Soccer. You can see the print lines, but it’ll do to hold the disc.

All of this ran me $12.86 being I paid for four games at $2.99 each plus tax. This takes the hunting money down to $37.13.

Moving into November, I had a spectacular find. At least, for the hunting money total. Not so much on the video game front, because it was just a Blu-Ray movie.

Wing Commander Blue-Ray - Sealed - Found 11.08.2018 at Goodwill

This thing, just looks like cheese from the cover. I picked it up, and immediately put it back down and walked around the corner to where some more shelves are. Then I said to myself you know what? No, let me check that, immediately dismissing something out of hand like that loses people money. Pulled up eBay on my phone and about pooped my pants. A sealed one was listed for $180. I thought that has to be some looney toon’s listing. I kept scrolling and no, used ones were just under $100. Check sold listings and there were real sales for $80+. Suffice to say I bought it, of course. Listed that sucker up, and I was hoping to get over $100 for it since it was sealed, but, there was some damage to the corner. The plastic was not in tact anymore.

This made the listing go for a lot less than $180. However, I was still pleased to see it sell for $85.00. For a $2 item? That’s a home run! After fees and shipping it netted us a nice cool $68.67. To be fair I will pull the money I used to buy it from the game hunting money, it was $2.12 ($1.99 plus tax) dropping us to $35.01. Then, adding $68.67 gives us...

$103.68!

We are now officially above the original $100 I started this game hunting journey with.

Not a bad note to end this post on. I’ll post up the finds for the very end of 2018 in the next post. Hopefully I can cobble that together here in the next couple of weeks and have it up much faster than I got this one up. There’s a really nice co-worker find to detail.

Drag Race Thailand EP. 3 RuCap

• Synopsis •

Mini Challenge: ’My own fucking fairy tale’ puppet show Main Challenge: Curtain to Couture a.k.a Gone With the Window Lip Sync Song: Katreeya English’s “OK นะคะ”

• Spoilers below •

A clique has seemingly formed! B Ella, Dearis Doll and Petchara enteres the werkroom as a group together being all bright and cheerful. Amadiva rolls her eyes at them though.

Bunny B Fly went home in the previous episode. Queens react sympathetically, though they made a bit of fun of her drawing on the wall being more beautiful than her.

Queens discussed about ‘The Curse of Annee Maywong’. Person that sit by her right, by far, seemed to be sent to bottom two and went home.

Mini challenge was ‘My own fucking fairy tale’. Queens were tasked to decorate their puppets and narrate their fairy tale. It was overall pretty boring, though the material picking has some funny shade from Amadiva. Seriously, she is shaping up to be Shangela-Katya hybrid of this series!

Natalia throwing Jaja some shade, criticize her promiscuous way of being all over the pit crew. ‘She would makes LGBTQ in Thailand looks cheaper’, she said, all high and conserved like an old queen.

Dearis Doll being shady is funny as fuck. If there were a fellow queen roast challenge, she could win it.

Mini Challenge Winner: Dearis Doll, with her Evil Queen reveal puppet and apathetic magic mirror.

The main challenge was to create a nightgown from curtain fabric. Dearis Doll was the challenge winner, and got to choose the fabric first. She then chose the next queen, which chose the next and the next and etc. Amadiva was the last of the line, and she criticized Jaja for choosing Morrigan over her, though Jaja (in the confession cam though) reasoned that she chose Morrigan because Morrigan was pretty much in a disadvantage, being young and inexperienced, so she thought she should give Morrigan some lift.

There’s not much in the werkroom. Annee admitted that Natalia was her biggest competition. Amadiva revealed she hot-glued her couture and afraid it could fall apart at any minute. Morrigan expressed her difficulties working with one heavy fabric and one tulle.

Before the runway, there was an interesting incident. Remember ‘The Curse of Annee Maywong?’. B Ella, who would sit by her right, came to the room late and got her make up moved to the other side of the desk. The person who was sitting by Annee’s right was Dearis Doll.

Well, it’s just some silly make up thing, right? Curses are not real.

Let’s skip to the runway.

Jaja

Serving Manila Luzon got thrown in Thai dirtiest canal and left to die realness.

The real gag was that it has a cup holder! (Amadiva joked to her beforehand that her upside-down dress looked like it could hold a cup of coffee, and she proceed to do just that!)

My opinion is that her idea was good, but her execution was bad. It’s the clash of colors and, while fun, lack elegance of the theme.

Morrigan

Crying second place pageant realness. Look at how fishy she is!

She got read harshly due to her dress’ similarity with a design of a famous brand in Thailand. it being super super boring, her walk lacked strength and posture, her hair being messy and her make up being unfitted for her pageant theme. ‘No pageant would wear glitter on her face!’ the co-host Pangina said.

My opinion is that it is pretty basic. A safe pretty choice which ultimately feels boring compared to other girls’.

Annee Maywong

Fall collection next door crazy aunt couture realness. Her runway game is very strong.

The ruveal, because bitch I got these hand-sewn pleated flowers and you should appreciate them!

My opinion is that WERK BITCH WERK. The judges were 10 across the board. By the way if there ever will be a comedy challenge I wonder if she would fare well. They were 3 consecutive runway/look challenge at this point.

Dearis Doll

Serving your president secret lover cocktail party realness

She said she planned to be simple, but looked at the other girls and realized they were going full fancy gown, so she did a last-minute step up and put many pearls on her.

Still, she got read for her basic look, it still convey curtain-ness, and pretty much no judge would want to wear it. Those pearl did nothing to alleviate the situation, even worsened it because judges didn’t get why it was there and made the look even more confusing.

Natalia Pliacam

Cinderella rummage sale with her mice friend realness

While the judges praised her way of adapting those curtain hanging hoops into the look and knowing what works for her, she was criticized for using the same silhouette AGAIN, being another ball gown. She was also read for her diamond top clashing with the dress.

Let’s see whether she would be Honey Mahogany or Bianca del Rio.

Amadiva

Sulfuric origami geisha realness

She was praised for her creativity and the ability to make it not look like a curtain, but was read for playing safe and being not very exciting. Still, Amadiva admitted that her sewing skill was not good and managed to hot glue this couture out of yellow curtains, and I personally find this to be my favorite

B Ella

Queen of Heart’s Rise Like a Pheonix at Eurovision realness

While her attitude was praised, her look was read for being ‘a piece of fabric wrapped around a corset’. Feathers and fabric pattern were also rather unfitting for what she was trying to narrate. It was a mess and not a hot one.

Petchara

AS3 Flower Power realness

It was beautiful but very clunky and confusing, and was another ‘a piece of fabric wrapped around a corset’ style. She was criticized that, while her dressmaking skill was great and her dress was gorgeous, her overall style was lacking and all over the place.

There was a rather nasty tirade from a guest judge, declaring that the girls were not stepping up their game and that she was disappointed.

So, who would be in the top and the bottom?

In the untuck room, they discussed about who would be in the top. They pretty much agreed that Annee and Natalia would be on top. B Ella prepared to lip sync confidently, pocketing a scissors to cut her corset. She was rather sure to be the bottom. Dearis said that, if she would to go lip sync, that pretty much confirmed ‘The Curse of Annee Maywong’

Main Challenge Winner: Annee Maywong she-can-do-no-wrong High: Jaja and Amadiva Low: B Ella Bottom 2: Morrigan and Dearis Doll

Jaja got possessed by Shannel and expressed her frustration of being only high but not winning. Amadiva, in contrast, was absolutely happy she was safe.

The Lip Sync

FINALLY, after a rather lackluster two lipsync, we got the gem we deserve!

Hello, I'm sorry to bother you but I no longer know who to turn to, you who are a creator of gifs; Could you recommend color settings, filters, or whatever, so that my gifs don't look HORRIBLE, get pixelated, colors blur, or get dots? I use Photoshop CS5 and the videos are 480p (they are episodes from a 90s series). I hope you can help me because I am on the verge of a mental breakdown😭. Sorry again for bothering you. Thank you.

Hi! You’re not bothering me at all. I’m sorry it took so long to get back to you, I’ve only just managed to get on my laptop (and it’s much easier for me to reply like this) :)

Unfortunately, I’m not 100% sure I will be able to help you. There is a chance that there’s always going to be issues because it’s 480p which is really hard to work with. That being said, I do know how difficult it can be to find good quality video of certain shows so I’ve put a couple of things below that you might be able to try, hopefully, it’s not too repetitive of things you’ve tried before.

I’ve put it under a read more mostly to save those on the mobile app lol.

Now, when I make gifs I always make sure to do certain things and I do everything in a pretty specific order. (Like I mentioned, higher video quality is always the best way to start so we’re going to skip past that lol).

Basically it’s: import frames/footage → sort frames → resize → sharpen → colour → text → export gif.

Right now I use photoshop cc but I used to use photoshop cs5 extended, so I’m going to point you in the direction of this tutorial for how to make a basic gif that I put together about 3 years ago when I was still using cs5. Now, I’m assuming you know how to make a gif but towards the end of the tutorial, I included what sharpening settings I use as well as my export settings for saving the gif. You can, of course, play with sharpening settings and try and make it stronger (or apply it more than once) but even with higher quality footage, it doesn’t alway help (sometimes it just makes it look worse).

In addition to that, I also made this tutorial to show how I colour my gifs. (My export settings are also in that tutorial too). I basically do the exact same thing now when it comes to colouring my gifs. The screenshots throughout the tutorial are just a rough guide to show how I made the example gifs so it does require some playing around but I always use those specific edit/adjustment layers to colour. Sometimes I’ll remove layers if they seem unnecessary or use certain ones multiple times if I think it needs a little something extra.

I do want to quickly mention that with low-quality footage, I find it best not to make the gifs too bright/vibrant/colourful. It highlights the flaws (pixelation, blurriness, etc) and makes them a lot more obvious.

And while this doesn’t tend to make that much of a difference to the colour/sharpness, gif size is super important. When I made the previous two tutorials, I also made this one where I talk about how to resize gifs correctly. In this particular case, something that might help is to use smaller gif sizes where possible. For example, I’d recommend going for something more like this gifset which uses the 177/178px sizes mentioned in the gif sizing tutorial. While not always the case, I tend to find the bigger I try to make the gifs the more likely it is for the flaws to be seen in them.

There is the slim possibility that the dots and pixelation and whatnot is down to photoshop or something being wrong with the footage you’re using (like a corrupt file) but honestly, it’s most likely the fact it’s 480p.

You had never, in your life, your ‘miserable existence’ as you labeled it yourself, expected to be be at the edge of 80,000 subs. In all honesty, you had never expected to make a career out of youtube at all. You had come such a long way from 5 years prior, where the quality of your content was 480p, to 1080 HD. When the basis of your content was shitty makeup tutorials and reactions to outdated memes.

You remembered the day you first posted your video about being self aware of shitty content creation, calling out yourself and a few other youtubers, like Leafyishere and GradeAUnderA.

You hadn’t expected to get much other than a couple angry preteens shoving torches down your throat because their daddy was calvin, but you had actually contracted several people watching and agreeing with your statements.

Now? You were going to your first VidCon.

You theorized in your head about you wouldn’t surprised if you were cordially invited just so that the people you had called out could gang you, but dismissed the idea as a joke you’d address in your vlog. Yes, you had planned to vlog some of the adventure.

When you first entered the conference hall, you were surrounded immediately by people who you had only seen on screens, people you had watched and even subscribed too. You had a lanyard on, with a card attached that said;

Maybe it didn’t say VIP, but it meant it. Whatever it said, you were damn proud to be wearing it. Quickly enough you found a party like setting and decided to settle there, feeling slightly anxious and very socially awkward. You admittedly were not the best in social settings, and provided you were probably in the same room as people you pretty much put on blast- you had a reason to be nervous.

You were about to go and get something to drink when someone tapped your shoulder, you automatically recognized the face as idubbztv. The sort of heart shaped head, thick rim glasses, and hair just now trying to grow itself back. You had visited his channel several times. You were a little starstruck as well, you had to admit, because he had actually addressed your video in the form of a tweet.

“Hey, sorry, must’ve scared you. I’m Ian.” He said, the neutral, monotone voice of his almost hinting sarcasm but only being his genuine tone. You shook your head.

“Sorry about that, must be the lights in here.” You practically had to yell over the incredibly shit remix of some Akon song.

“I’m (y/n)!” You said, your volume steady on that borderline shout level. His voice was at the same level.

“I’ve seen alot of your videos, besides AFCOYT.” AFCOYT was the acronym your call out video, standing for ‘ANGRY FEMINIST CALLS OUT YOUTUBERS’. You were quite shook he remembered.

“The series where you were cracking on conspiracy theorists is brilliant!” He continued. The lights didn’t allow him to see how flustered you were.

“Thanks! It just bothers me when they other think EVERYTHING, y’know?” You said, leaning against the arm of the sofa you had been sitting on.

“Your kick-starter crap videos? Never stop, I have to look them up myself to see if they’re actually legit sometimes. I like it when someone can make a claim talking shit about something-” You began.

“And have the information to back it up.” Ian and you said that part in unison.

He chuckled a little bit when you both realized you had said the exact same thing, causing a small moment of content silence.

“Do you wanna... get a drink?” Ian asked you, you were quick to oblige. “I’d love too.” You stated.

Neither of you knew where this would lead, but you were happy to find out.
