Our Chilling Adventures in the Spellman House
Last week the Dark Lord blessed us with a coveted trip to the Spellman House in Los Angeles, and today I was lucky enough to get to view the first episode of the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina on Netflix. After all of this I can 100% honestly say that I’m ready and willing to sign my name in the Book of the Beast!
The Spellman house was a one day only, limited ticket activation in downtown Los Angeles. Even though this was a one day only event you could tell a lot of work and thought went into planning and design. Netflix and Teen Vogue teamed up to make this a memorable event that included a makeover, interactive activities, and awesome photo opportunities.
The experience started out in the Teen Vogue makeover room, where we got to choose either the Light or Dark side. Once you decided what side you were picking it determined your makeover path. Off to the nail bar it was. Spiders and black or roses and pink, depending on which side we chose adorned our nails. After that was lips, and again, you either got a bold dark shade or a flirty pink shade. The final touch was choosing our flower crown, which were beautifully made with real, fresh, flowers and smelled divine.
After that it was off to the black carpet to show off our witchy makeovers by taking a few paparazzi style photos in front of the Sabrina backdrops.
Once we were done posing and playing we were led upstairs where the real fun started. Stop number one was Baxter High, where we were encouraged to join WICCA (Women’s Intersectional Cultural and Creative Association) and got take a walk down the high school’s hallway, where a little bit of magic was caught on camera.
Then it was off to the woods to sign the Book of the Beast under the blood moon and take our place at the Dark Lord’s altar.
Things lightened up a bit after that with a trip to the Spellman mortuary and a seat on the Light Side with the clear message ‘Not Today Satan’.
Over all the Spellman House was a fun pop up that totally got me in the mood to watch the show. I felt immersed into the world of Sabrina Spellman and was lucky enough to watch the show today. The show is is a supernatural horror drama on Netflix, based on the comic series of the same name created by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa in 2014. The adaptation was initially planned to be developed on The CW, but the series was picked up by Netflix. It has already been approved for two seasons of 10 episodes each. The series is obviously centered around Sabrina Spellman, portrayed by Kiernan Shipka, and also stars Ross Lynch, Lucy Davis, Chance Perdomo, Michelle Gomez, Jaz Sinclair, Tati Gabrielle, Adeline Rudolph, Richard Coyle, and Miranda Otto. I’m only one episode in, but I’m 100% here for it! The first episode was all about introducing the characters and the world. They did a great job because by the end of the episode I was totally invested into everything and everyone. I care about what’s going on, and I wanna know how Sabrina manages to get out of signing the Book of the Beast. Even though I have no idea how it happens, I’m absolutely sure that she finds a way to keep her magic and still have her mortal life. That’s what the show is about after all. But don’t go into this thinking that it’s light and bubbly (like the 90’s tv show was). This show is incredibly dark, with plenty of death, black magic, satanic symbolism, and just plain creepiness. I give the first episode, the writing, the acting, and the overall creepiness two cloven hooves way up, and I can’t wait to settle into my couch tonight and watch more!
