A long while ago I once wrote a role reversal s0 fic where these two’s positions were reversed — where Yami was Sugoroku’s distant-relative-turned-grandson, and Yuugi was a spirit who could control destructive, absolute light instead of darkness (this was before I knew abt GX)

This was a scene I never got to write, but it stuck on my head for a long while. With such ominous words, only good things could’ve been happening here :)

Apartment Gothic

Your apartment building is rather small. There are only 3 aboveground floors. The inside has 5.

There is constant barking from the dog in the apartment to your left. The TV is blaring during the day and at night, arguments between the married couple. That apartment has been cordoned off for weeks since the fire.

The smell of burning, acrid air comes through the vents when the heat is turned on. You swear you can hear screams.

The maintenance people never show up when you call. But you always find things fixed, with a polite, hand written note about it. The leaky sink, the broken outlet, your car's radiator, your wrist after that accident, your boss's attitude at work, your divorce...

You've only been in the lease office once. You don't remember it. You only know that you woke up holding the lease and it was signed in your handwriting.

There is supposedly a pool on the apartment grounds. You've never seen it. In the summer evenings, you can hear splashing and laughter from outside.

A neighbor is obsessed about the infestation in his apartment. He bangs on your door, yelling about it, asking for help. You hear the scrabbling of little legs, the way his voice is made up of millions. You don't even dare look through the peephole.

You've learned to use the rear exit from your building. The front one isn't right. Never again.

The attic is full of boxes of your old possessions, memories stored away, carefully preserved against dust and damage. Your apartment is on the lowest floor.
