Parallels between Chaggie and Lucilith and what that may mean for the former's future in the show
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A Fallen Angel and another of demon origin (Lilith was the first woman turned demon; Charlie is demon born, being half Seraphim Angel and half demon)
It is the one named Morningstar who find their respective lovers.
As shown in the above pictures, how the couple first meet are positioned in the same manner.
The Fallen Angel is the shorter partner of the respective couples.
From each couple, one was treated horribly by Adam, which became a reason as to why they left/were abandoned - Lilith refused to submit to Adam; Vaggie was left in Hell by Adam (and Lute) for sparing a demon child.
The Fallen Angel of each couple have a dim view on both Sinners and Heaven, although Vaggie is still supportive of Charlie's goal.
Each couple have been implied to have an active, happy sex life - it's more explicit with Lucilith and subtle with Chaggie.
The Morningstar partner comes from high social standing and is the more physically powerful between them their respective partners - Lucifer was once a renowned Serpahim Angel while Charlie grew up sheltered and protected as the Princess of Hell.
Both Vaggie and Lilith have a big secret regarding Heaven that could/did hurt Charlie in some way - Vaggie was a top Exorcist Angel and Charlie became hurt over her girlfriend keeping it a secrete; Lilith made some deal with Adam to stay in Heaven for yet unknown reasons but it wouldn't be hard to guess how hurt Charlie would be.

hello again! secret santa here lol <3 i’m having such a hard time remembering not to follow you and like your posts bc !! they’re good posts!!
and that makes complete sense to me, thank you for the clarification!
(i actually have written domesticity for royai a bit but with the huge exception that they’re a queerplatonic couple To Me, so i totally understand feeling like. a little Different from the way fandom interacts with them! cuz they’re just like. not romantic to me at all & so domesticity means something different when it’s committed platonic ykno?)
all that being said, i have a couple of ideas for a few different dynamics (including some of your other originally requested ones) that i’m kicking around atm && i can def work with subtle and/or shenanigans for sure, i’m actually looking forward to that!
(i’m also in the middle of finals so i likely won’t get to start for another week or two, just wanted to give my daydreams a little direction!)
hello againnn <33 ty for your nice words!
slay.. in all honesty i loove bodyguard dynamics and fma gives me not only ONE but TWO of those (royai and ling/lan fan) and umm i love how these ships are about knowing the other person from the inside and out and being able to communicate from the other side of a crowded room but never actually touching.. fandom loves Not That, i see a lot of fluff and touchy cuddly content and children/settled down aus and im like.. they Would Not Fucking Do That. however, your take sounds super interesting and fun to explore! but you get it
good luck with your exams!

I have seen some sasusakus acknowledge some of what you wrote in there but they explain it away by saying that just because it’s romantic in one context doesn’t mean it’s romantic in another context. To them it’s never romantic when the context is between two men. Yet they cry about being called homophobic…….
Yeah those SS are homophobic. Nothing new. They are so attached to their ship they have to jump through the hoops to explain away all the 5000 homoerotic/romantic implications...
Kishi wouldn't have made a reference to romance and doublesuicide at the start of Kages arc and then at the end of said arc make Naruto suggest doublesuicide to Sasuke (right after when both girls who love Sasuke romantically fail to have any sort of effect on him) which shakes him. Naruto even talks about how in the next life their societal expectations won't be in their way, which is like the core of Japanese doublesuicide plays and the reason why the romantic couples in them end up making such decision. Like you have to be REALLY deep in denial to deny the romantic implication here. Aside from million other things.
Kishi wouldn't have picked a manga from the 70s (of which climax had another guy to admit he is in love with another guy and have them fight) and then go and parallel said manga to the aftermath of Naruto and Sasuke's fight where Sasuke finally gives up and cries an smiles when he realizes how deep Naruto feels for him, without meaning it to be gay. Like there should be limit to delusion and stupidity, but homophobia seems to increase it a lot...

Chenford - Lucy Chen / Tim Bradford - The Rookie - Season 5 - Eps 8 & 9
Hello, Chenford fans! If you love Lucy Chen and Tim Bradford on The Rookie, I owe you a debt of thanks. Throughout the years, I've loved writing Metas for various ships, and several of you told me I HAD to check out this ship.
Y'all. Were. Right! It's been so much fun catching up and then riding with you this season on an amazing adventure. All of y'all who've stuck it out from the beginning are rockstars!
SPOILER ALERT: This is a Meta of Episodes 8 and 9 AKA the 2022 Winter Finale. I will be talking extensively about Chenford and spoiling every bit of it for these two episodes, as well as diving into their past and parallels found there. Do not proceed if you wish to remain unspoiled.
Ready? Let's dive in!
The Collar
"I'm reassigning Aaron for the day. Lucy, that means you're on Gofer Duty."
Lucy and Tim haven't been outright avoiding one another since their near-cheating incident, but they have been avoiding riding together.
Spending all day in a vehicle without an out or an excuse to get away if things get too personal? Yeah, they've been avoiding this.
The way they look at one another, both trying to see if the other is okay with this is so perfectly their MO. They're not going to say what they want until they're certain the other person is on the same page.
Just look at the scene when Tim "asked" Lucy to be his Gofer... they basically went around one another in circles until it came to arms crossed and "Do you want it?" "If you want me to want it", basically.
Tim and Lucy are still tip-toeing here. And Grey can feel the discomfort.
"Is there some reason you two can't ride together?"
Lucy huffs out an exasperated sigh because what can she say!? and looks to Tim, who looks to her. There's no getting out of this without saying something neither of them want to say right now, so they let it go.
But watch them after Grey walks away. Tim can barely look at her.
Because this is not like the times in the past when they've ridden together. They've ridden as TO and Rookie/Boot. They've ridden as Sergeant and Gofer. Yes, technically Lucy is on Gofer Duty, but she's no longer his Gofer. That job's been given to Aaron.
She's riding as Officer Chen, and their dynamic has completely shifted from one that bordered on romantic to two people desperately trying to shove down the feelings that they too-briefly acknowledged months earlier wearing borrowed clothes and courage.
The Shop is a tin can with two people shoved inside of it—two people who are hoping they can avoid shaking the foundations of their firmly rooted relationship because they aren't quite ready to leap.
"So... how's single life going?" "It's good. No one to complain when I watch football all Sunday." "You didn't leave the house once?" "I walked Kojo." "Tim! What?" "I spend all week outside." "I know, but we live in a vibrant city. There's always something amazing going on." "Look, obviously don't get me wrong, I love LA, but it is not a vibrant city, okay? It's a loosely stitched together patchwork of strip-malls." "You're hopeless."
Yes, I wrote all that. I love this whole exchange because it feels like them, and I know that's why Lucy is smiling over at him after he finishes his last line. This feels right. It always has.
Yes, there have been times that they have been at odds. Yes, there were times Tim was a hard*ss trying to whip her into shape. Yes, they've had their fights and confrontations over the years.
But this rhythm has been earned.
They can disagree without offending one another. They don't have to conceal the fact that they disagree, or tiptoe around issues.
Well, they do have one issue they tiptoe around... but we'll get to that later.
A Phone Rings
Tim glances over, and his face is hilarious. It's a good thing Chris can't see how Tim registers who it is, makes a grim frown, and looks away, trying not to eavesdrop because the last thing he wants to do is listen to the woman he loves be ooey-gooey with her boyfriend.
"Where are you?" "An open house! It was on my way to work. What do you think? It need some work, but it's three bedrooms."
Now this has Tim's attention. He looks over, trying to register if he's hearing what he thinks he's hearing.
Lucy. Looks. Horrified.
"I can't really see anything. Can we talk later?" "Yeah! Love you!"
Lucy can't hang up the phone fast enough.
She huffs out a little, frustrated grunt as she makes that image disappear from her phone screen—a future she knows deep down she doesn't want.
Tim—who thought he was going to get through this day without delving into Lucy's personal life—can't help himself. He noticed several things in that exchange, and there's something that's stirring within him even if he doesn't want to admit it—hope.
Lucy didn't say "I love you" back.
Lucy looked entirely uncomfortable at the idea of moving in with Chris.
Lucy rushed to get him off the phone.
These are all tiny indicators to Tim that there's a chance to have that conversation he's been dying to have since the hotel room when Lucy stood before him wearing nothing but a robe as armor against her heart.
The episode before, he was holding his radio—a literally communication device—which tied them together throughout the day. He held it in his hand, trying to communicate with Lucy. But Chris swooped in, and she was whisked away on his arm, seemingly happy.
Tim doesn't want to do anything to hurt Lucy's happiness.
But this exchange gives him the hint that she isn't happy.
"Are you, are you and Chris moving in together?" "No." "I mean, he seems to think you are." "Yeah, I mean, I don't know. He kinda sprang it on me this morning."
Watch how Lucy rubs her chest, clearly uncomfortable.
Up until now, it's been easy to coast in this comfortable relationship. She wasn't sure where Tim stood, especially after he encouraged her to go off to UC school, and Chris is a great guy.
She should be happy, right?
"You guys are happy, right?" "Yeah." "Those are the obvious next steps." "We're super happy. It's good."
Tim's not trying to lead her on a ride. He honestly wants Lucy to be happy, even if it's not with him. But the cracks are showing.
"That poor woman. The last moments of her life must have been agony, just wondering if the bomb was going to go off, praying it wouldn't." "I'm guessing that was the point. No way someone goes through that much trouble of building something like that unless they wanna terrorize their victim." "Yeah."
I love this conversation because we're still in the moment with them—that horrible moment where a woman lost her life.
Tim and Lucy don't just bounce off of it. Yes, they keep going. They have to. But they take the moment to acknowledge the horrors they've witnessed.
I desperately wish more of my news colleagues had done this back in the day, but that's a story for another blog.
Tim and Lucy's quiet moment of reflection and compassion is interrupted by... Chris. Of course, it's Chris.
"I saw the news, are you okay?"
Oh. Oh! I thought Chris was going to do or say something completely insensitive. That's... refreshing.
"Look, if you don't have time, I get it, but a realtor friend of mine just slipped me a listing-"
THERE it is. There's the a**hole, can't-read-the-room, tone-deaf moment I was expecting.
Lucy looks to Tim to find him already watching her. "Save me," her eyes scream.
"Chen! Chat with your boyfriend on your own time."
Heck, yeah!! That's our White Knight riding up on his faithful steed to rescue the Warrior Princess whose current dead-weight Gentleman Caller has got to go!
Thank you, Tim, for coming to the rescue with some TO-voiced ordering.
"Thanks."
He nods to her in acknowledgement. The barrier they've both kept up is falling more and more throughout this episode, especially as she leans on Tim for support.
I like to talk about the Walls of Jericho from It Happened One Night, one of my favorite love stories, ever. It was physical, but also metaphorical. It was, essentially, a flimsy sheet set between a man and woman to try to separate them and avoid temptation.
But shadows made it through, and it was easily shoved aside. That's the veil between Tim and Lucy, right now, and it's falling fast.
You shouldn't need saving from your own boyfriend. But after what happened with Caleb, Tim's always felt a responsibility to protect Lucy, and I feel that's only intensified as their relationship has progressed toward the romantic.
He can feel her hurt. This is actually hurting, now, and he's not going to stand by and do nothing.
"Look, if you don't want to move in, just tell Chris that." "The question is, 'Why don't I want to move in?'. I don't get what the problem is. I mean, Chris is great. We're great together. We never fight." "Maybe that's the problem." ... "Do you guys not fight because you don't disagree on things or because you don't think it's worth the bother?"
Watch. Her. Face. Oh, how it falls as she considers those words. She's riding along, coasting in this relationship with Chris. There's no passion, no friction, no growth. It's convenient and comfy, but we all know that Lucy isn't afraid of confrontation.
Heck, when she was still very fresh in her Rookie stage with Tim, she tracked him down at night to keep him from making a choice that would change who he was. He might've told her she was out of her depth, but he listened.
Lucy doesn't shy away when it counts. So why is she shying away, now?
"Lucy." "Yeah?" "You deserve someone who's worth the effort."
She's fiddling away at her phone case, uncomfortable and nervous. But she meets his eyes as he speaks to her. She doesn't just hear his words, she feels them.
Tim pulls away after the words escape his mouth, placing his right hand on the wheel, further away from Lucy. She watches him for a moment before looking away, just missing him looking back at her.
They both know what he meant.
Whether his intention was to put himself out there or not, he did it. He reached out a little to her, and though he can't see it, we can all feel her reaching back.
That cord of connection that bonds them is always there, but new threads are weaving in... new strands that only strengthen the more they're spoken aloud.
Tim and Lucy are falling in love... but they aren't ready to discuss it... yet.
Taking Cover from the Bomb
I know it's little, and we can rationalize Tim would have done this with anyone. He absolutely would have protected them. But I love the way he rises WITH her. When they stand after the snipping of the bomb, it's as a unit.
And it's so indicative of this episode. It's bringing them back to that point of trust we saw in 5x01 between them where they were undercover up in the air, and knew they had to trust one another completely.
They've kept apart to try and dull the thrum of their hearts that beats deeply for the other. They've been afraid, and unsure, and unsteady.
But the more they're together, the more it's obvious to both of them (and to us, come on!) that they work beautifully together, that they can depend on one another, that the get one another in a way that's spiritual and chemical and can't be forced or reproduced.
Lucy's F*cking Phone
Every time they get a second of air to breathe, that bloody phone is going off. Now, Tim's actively looking over, not even pretending he's unaware of what's transpiring.
Lucy's frustration is bubbling over, and Tim can see it. He looks over at her and sees the woman he loves... miserable. She's f*cking miserable with this other guy, and he knows it.
"Do you love him?"
Tim knows the answer to this one. It's plain as day. But he also knows Lucy. She needs to work through things, sometimes, which is part of why she talks so much.
Tim licks his lips before he says it, as if he needs extra lubrication to get the words out.
Lucy tries to deflect. Much as she loves talking, she doesn't want to talk about this with him. She deflected hardcore in the hotel, and here she is, again, trying to deflect.
"He loves you." "I know. And I feel like I should love him back. He's so great in so many different ways. It's just. He's just not-"
And her gaze shifts immediately to Tim.
Y'all breathing? Because, I legit stopped breathing at this moment. I might've flailed so much in excitement that I accidentally batted my husband's arm beside me.
But watch Tim's reaction... he knows exactly what she's saying. And while they've broken a lot of rules about talking about personal stuff in the Shop, that's one place they both know better than to cross while under the watchful eyes of half a dozen cameras.
Because, Tim is already bending toward her, but he hasn't yet broken the rules. He hasn't yet crossed the lines. Oh, we all know they both nearly did… but didn't.
ADDENDUM: After watching the scene a few more dozen times, I now don't think Tim knew what she was saying... or he wouldn't let himself hope that he was hearing correctly. Anyway... Onward...
And as they ride, feet and legs parallel to fit their seats, arms contained, and eyes only stealing glimpses, they are very much packaged within the rules of their world.
He's the Sergeant. She's running Gofer. And there are too many rules for the conversation to shift there.
"We need to talk."
Look, I've never said those words or heard those words in a positive manner, but I was completely blown away. But, before I get carried away, can we talk about how GORGEOUS Lucy looks in this ensemble? It's fabulous and I want to hug the costumer.
And there's Tim, tapping away on his phone, alone. I get the feeling they planned to have this conversation, or else he would have gone home. We've never seen him just hang out outside like this. I mean, earlier in the episode he was already telling Lucy he gets plenty of sun.
But his sun is shifting. She's becoming his sun. And soon he'll be basking in her glow.
But I'm getting ahead of myself, again.
Tim sets down his phone and immediately turns to face Lucy as she sits. This time, they aren't in the confines of the Shop. They're not parallel. They're angled toward one another, though not yet fully facing each other.
We're seeing the shift. They wear civvies. They're outside in the fresh air. And yet, they're still not facing one another completely. Not yet.
And yet they are on the same page in this moment.
"This clearly isn't working out."
Props to the human on Twitter who pointed out the repetition of this word being used by Tim and Lucy when discussing the other's significant others who they think need to go. "Clearly isn't the right guy..." "Clearly Ashley needs to go..."
And, yes, Tim. We all agree with you. It's about Tim.. Time. It's about Time (and Tim).
"Oh, like I'm the only one who stayed too long when things aren't working? You dated a lifeguard. You don't even like going to the beach."
I admit I laughed so hard at this line that I missed the next one on my first viewing. I always thought that about Tim and Ashley, but it was nice to hear Lucy verbalize my frustration.
"This isn't about me. No, it's not. This is not about me. This is about you staying in this safe relationship because you're scared."
Buuuurn. I mean, he's not wrong.
I actually know a lot about this, personally. I dated a guy in high school. Nice guy. Thought I was in love with him. But as time went on, I could see it wasn't going to work out. It just wasn't right. So, there I am in my Freshman year of college facing all these people saying, "You two are going to get married!" and everything in me screaming, "the hell we are!"
But it was safe and easy. And breaking out of that relationship was tough. I broke his heart, soundly. He kept trying to get back together with me. But in the week after I decided to break up with him, I met this amazing man named Matthew.
Spoiler Alert: We nearly met over the course of 1.5 years on two different continents on 12 different occasions. We met at exactly the right time. When I was ready to walk away from a safe relationship that was going nowhere. Been together 19 years, married 15.
So, I get it, Lucy, but it's time to break free.
"Of course I'm scared. If we do this, and it doesn't work, I'll have ruined the most important relationship in my life."
Silence. Pure silence. Because what do you say to that?
Tim's sitting there, watching her, leaning into her, drinking her in. And for the first time in his life, he's not the one who's trying to give the most. He's the one who is valued, cherished, loved, and honored. In Lucy's eyes, they are soulmates, with or without the romantic subplot.
And as that realization sets in... that she sees him the same way he sees her. Oh, he loves her all the more.
Because there is finally a person who knows what an a** he can be, how rigid he can be, how closed off he can be, how horrible his childhood was, how hard he's fought to be his own man despite never having a father who gave a damn. Lucy has seen his scars, and not only does she care about him, she is so terrified to risk what they have because she knows in her heart there is no other human who can fill the Tim shaped hole in her life that would be left if he was gone.
Tim. Is. Loved.
When you grow up feeling unlovable, then enter into relationships where everyone's leaving you... it gets hard to see your own value. You stop believing that you're a catch, something precious, something special.
But Lucy knows Tim inside and out, and in this moment, he finally understands why she's terrified.
It's not just about risking a friendship. It's risking the defining relationship that transcends every label it was supposed to have at every stage. This is big.
The last time his mouth was this wide he was completely turned on by the idea of hooking up with Lucy via her doppelganger backstory. But the expression this time is completely different.
Look at Tim's eyes. Look at the man who has feared himself unlovable learning that the woman he holds to such high esteem holds him equally high or higher.
Lucy realizes the bomb she just dropped (thank you to Director Robert Bella for telling us they'd be there!) and she tries to back-pedal a little. Now, she is not negating what she said. She simply fears it was too strong a statement to drop on Tim right this second.
"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have-" "No. Um, you're right."
This takes me right back to the hotel room. Her trying to give him an answer, an escape, an excuse. Just biology, "right?" And it's belated, but here's that "right" she was looking for. The big reason that it's not worth the risk.
"So we should just keep going the way we have been, right? It's not worth the risk."
Right? Right!? RIGHT!?
She wants him to affirm her so badly, not because she doesn't want him... but because she wants to know it's in her head, to know that he won't go there, to know that she's justified in staying scared.
But this time, Tim's not letting her off the hook. He can see it in her eyes. He can hear it in her voice. They're on the same page, and there's no way he's letting her turn it without him beside her.
A thousand micro-expressions cross Tim's face. There's the, "Well, you have a point" that quickly shifts to "but maybe..." and then to "I'm just saying" with that little pout to the raised eyebrows with the "come on... let's try".
"Unless it is."
Three words. Three little words and the entire Chenford fandom spontaneously combusted on the floor. I mean, we were already puddling, let's be clear, but in terms of existing on this plane? Nah, that went out the door with this.
Because Tim Bradford, Mr. Super Cop, Follow the Rules, "Chen" not "Lucy" is sitting next to the woman he loves and telling her he thinks they are worth the risk.
WE are worth the risk.
Lucy stares at him incredulously, a little gasp escaping her lips. It's something Melissa O'Neil does a lot as Lucy that adds so much realism to her reactions. Here, Lucy is so surprised at his response, but she's elated, too. You can see it in the upturn of her lips.
And Look. At. Tim. Look at our boy all heart-eyes and fawning over the new sun in his life—Lucy Chen.
Eric Winter takes us on another tour of micro-expressions. We start with his awe at watching her respond, then gathering himself up, trying to have courage. Then, that falls away as he simply laughs. Because he doesn't need courage. He's already fallen. The only question... is whether or not she's ready to take this leap.
He lets the smile fall, gathering himself for whatever she might say as he learns forward. He's moving closer to her, physically, romantically, emotionally... It's all riding on this.
"Do you want to get dinner sometime?"
On. The. Floor. All those Chenford folks who were already broken apart and left this plane temporarily re-formed long enough to combust, again.
Timothy Bradford, look at you!
And this entire scene has brought us to this. From an establishing shot, to a two-shot, to switching sides so the busy sidewalk is out of our view, and pushing in as Tim and Lucy get closer and closer to this moment.
The camera's been taking us on a journey, from remembering where we are and who might be around to forgetting that anything except Tim and Lucy exist. It's the intimacy of the moment brought to life through the screen.
We've come to this moment tight on Lucy as she looks back at Tim, his eyes swimming with hope. It looks beautiful on him.
"Ye-es!"
She makes it two syllables (another amazing little touch that Melissa O'Neil does) as she explodes in a grin that'd light up the darkest room.
And watch Tim bask in it. Have we ever seen his eyes so bright?
"Yeah?"
I love the way he breathes it out, breathless, because she has stolen his breath away and he is left in disbelief that this beautiful woman is ready to risk it all for him... with him... for them.
"No, uh..." "Okay." "No, no, it's just... Not yet. I owe it to Chris to end things the right way with him."
Watch Tim's body language (and this is all Eric Winter). He pulls away from her. He straightens his back. His foot pops down and his knee drops.
Everything in Tim just deflated. After that split-second of joy, this feels like the plummet into rejection that some tiny part of him feared—the part of him that continually thinks he isn't worth it... because of deep set childhood trauma and abuse.
And we've shifted back to the two-shot, away from the intimacy.
But Lucy brings it back.
Before Tim can fully pull away, we shift back to that tight shot.
"Ask me again."
And watch how he boomerangs right back to her.
He's leaning in. He's engaged. He's surprised, but in the best way. Because "Not yet" can easily lean into "No".
But "Ask me again"? There's no denying what she means. She wants this. She wants him. She wants them.
Just not yet.
"Later. After." "Deal."
And look at his face. He looks so content. I can't remember ever seeing Tim Bradford so worry-free.
I mean, there are hints of him relaxing into life around Lucy... paint-balling... the flirty banter after she woke up after Day of the Dead... dancing in the company of friends.
But there's always been that bit of tension about. Not here. His face is free of all that, and he is resting in the knowledge that soon it won't be an idea, a fantasy, a fear, or a frustration. They are taking this next step together.
And it is terrifying. And it could be disastrous. But they've committed in this moment. And I love that for them.
Take Back
Chris Wants Tim's Opinion
Have you ever been around a male peacock? They are a fascinating bunch, constantly throwing out their gorgeous feathers. But they can be really annoying. I've had them chase me and my family at a local farm. Like, really, Mr. Peacock? I didn't do anything to you!
That's how I view Chris and Tim.
I don't think Chris is just in here because "Tim knows Lucy's taste". I get the impression that Chris is onto Tim and Lucy, but I think he only sees Tim's side because he's completely, blindly in obsessive-love with Lucy and is missing the truths in front of him.
He doesn't see Tim as competition. He feels like he's won. But he wants to be sure that Tim is aware of that fact so he'll back off.
I mean, look at how Chris responded to Lucy inviting Tim on their date after she gave Tim's radio back? Chris' face fell and he was completely frustrated. We know he's tried to talk her out of being a cop and into being a lawyer.
Much like Ashley, he found someone he liked enough and tried to shape her into what he wanted. The difference is, Ashley knew when to walk away, even if her timing sucked (in a hospital? after surgery? Were you raised by a**holes?)
So, here's Chris in Tim's temporary office, making sure to show off the big house he's going to get with Lucy—and you aren't, Tim. Neener, neener, neener!
Yeah, I'm not nice to Chris' internal monologue...
"You know her tastes..."
Of course he does, Chris. Because Tim is her favorite flavor. Step off, bro.
**To be clear, I have nothing against the actor. If anyone attacks him over a character he plays, they're an a**hole. But Chris is fictional and fair-game to me.
"It's nice." "What's nice?"
Let's not pretend Lucy is in here for any reason other than to get her boyfriend away from her husband. That room is nothing but glass, and she likely spied Chris in there and thought, "F*ck".
Chris kisses Lucy's cheek on the way out, and the grin Tim gives him is delicious. "Do it while you can, buddy, because you are on the way out and Tim Bradford is on the way in."
Yes, I realized the multiple entendres, though it wasn't written with that intention. So, it stays. Take it however you will.
In one smooth camera movement, we go from Lucy dropping the plastic smile to Tim looking up from the desk with a half smile.
"How's the breakup going?"
I cackled. I died. I tried so hard not to wake my sleeping husband but definitely failed because he abandoned our bed shortly after to take the couch.
There's no more tip-toeing for Tim and Lucy. Everything is on the table, it's just whether or not they play it through.
"I'm in the planning stages. I'm just reviewing the literature." "Literature? Lucy, a psychology journal's not going to tell you how to break up with Chris. Just invite him to your office and ask for his playbook."
I love this. The banter. The humor.
Look, I'm a huge fan of characters getting together and not losing what made them great. It worked beautifully on The Good Place and Brooklyn 99, and I really want to see it work here, too.
Tim and Lucy's back-and-forths are part of why we love them. Even in this moment, they disagree. But they've worked through so much in their relationship that even though they openly disagree, they know how to do so with respect.
It's earned.
"His playbill?" "His playbook. When you get kicked off the team you have to turn in your playbook. It's a metaphor." "No, it's cruel. I'm going to handle it my way."
And here come Tim's creeping doubts. Because a tiny part of him still worries this is too good to be true.
"If you're having second thoughts-" "No. I'm not." "Good."
Heart eyes. We have HEART EYES at work... in uniform. In the Watch Commander's Office. Freakin' heart eyes.
You ever have a moment where you stop and think, "How did I get here?" That's me and this moment. Everything up until this point made me smile and squeal. But, this? This made me swoon.
Because Tim Bradford and Lucy Chen are looking at one another like the other lassoed the moon. There's no fear. No trepidation. No worry. No tension.
In this brief moment, Tim and Lucy are simply that... Tim and Lucy. Every other boundary is seemingly stripped.
And yet... they are still separated by Chris... and the Desk of Duty set between them.
Think about it. Tim doesn't break the rules much. Yes, some things matter more. It's true! But, it's few and far between.
Here, he is in the role of Watch Commander, even further from Lucy in her position. And yet the man and woman beneath the badges and uniforms are screaming to be together.
But the barriers have not yet been rendered moot.
"You know, you haven't said anything since we pulled out." ... "I need to break up with Chris." "Finally!"
Aaron. Oh, Aaron. Thank you. First, for knowing our girl well enough to know that her silence is a sign something is up. Two, for saying what everyone has been quietly thinking. And we (the audience) know you know Tim's got it bad for Lucy. So, thank you for your service in this moment.
"Aaron was right. I should have practiced more. Okay. Um. I need you to give me your playbook."
She defaults to Tim's advice. Quick. Rip off the band-aid. Go for the metaphor.
Now, my husband pointed out that he would have had no idea what that meant (same with me). But, apparently, Chris knows enough.
"Are you breaking up with me?" "You know what that means?"
I laughed heartily at that. Which is a terrible, terrible thing to do when a guy is getting his heart broken. But, I've been there.
I didn't say exactly those words, but I knew direct and to the point was the best way to handle the comfortable—but wrong for me—guy.
He's great, by the way. Married to a mutual friend of ours with a son. We kept in touch! I oddly did that with all my exes... Yeah, I know I'm weird.
But Lucy definitely definitely doesn't need to keep in touch with Chris.
And our girl knows it, because as soon as the deed is done, she runs right back to Tim.
Lucy knocks on his door, that beautiful moonstone ring that has come to mean so much glinting at the camera lens, catching light from somewhere in the room.
"How's it going?" "Counting the seconds until Grey returns. What are you doing back?" "I talked to Chris."
With that, Lucy crosses the threshold of the room, toward Tim, away from the past.
Tim finally, finally comes out from behind the desk. He stands facing her. No longer parallel like in the Shop. No longer angled like outside.
This time, they're pointed at what they both truly want—each other.
And the barriers are gone. Lucy has shed the dead weight of the puffed chicken, and Tim just stepped away from the weight of that Desk of Duty to face Lucy fully as a man.
He's still in uniform. They're in the Watch Commander's office. The walls are glass. But none of that matters to him because he's made a choice, already, and nothing will stand in his way now that Lucy is ready to take this leap together.
"How did it go?" "Uhhh, awful. But it's done."
Lucy takes a look around them, taking in the scene, looking to see if anyone is coming or anyone is watching. She turns back to Tim, secure that this is their moment.
And it's happening inside the precinct. Why? I think it's because this is where it all started for them. The first chapter of their story began in this setting. Why not have the next chapter start similarly?
Tim watches Lucy as she looks to him. The look on his face reminds me of 5x01 when they'd just crossed the threshold into her apartment and he was standing there, watching her, unsure if she wanted to start or if he should.
This time, there's no ambiguity from her.
"So, do you have something you were gonna ask me?"
She takes a step forward on that, settling into her hip the same way she did at that door back in 5x01, watching Tim and waiting for him to cross the threshold to her.
This time, the threshold is invisible, but they both know it's there. They can feel the buzz of this moment and all the change it will bring.
Much as they have fought it in the past, they know they're on the same page. It's time to start writing a new chapter.
"I can't remember." "Don't make me hurt you."
Again, thank you, writers, for making sure that Tim and Lucy are still... Tim and Lucy. Even in this moment of monumental change, they are still the characters we love and not watered-down versions of them.
Lucy and Tim are flirting in their teasing way, and my heart's fluttering so fast I fear I'll take flight.
Tim locks eyes on her, taking his own step forward. Any closer and there'd be some side-eye from the other officers outside, of course. But that was the threshold right there.
He crossed it. Tim Bradford took a step toward the future he wants with Lucy Chen.
And as his eyes swim with adoration, his mouth quirks into an almost-smile, the peace of reciprocal love enveloping him in warmth.
His eyes sparkle, and while, yes it's probably studio lighting... I like to think it's because those eyes are reflecting the radiance of Lucy's love back to her.
"Do you wanna go out on a date?" "Yeah, I do."
The last time she said, "I do" to him, they were on a dance-floor, giddy with excitement, releasing themselves into a moment of happiness.
But with these two words, they've unlocked something even deeper—the chance at love that transcends boundaries and rules, that binds souls in passion and paradise.
Does it mean the road will be easy? Hell, no. But, it means they'll face it together.
They have fought. They have battled. They have pissed each other off. They have pranked one another. Helped one another. Supported one another. Uplifted one another. Rescued one another.
This is an epic love story, not some flash-in-the-pan, fly-by romance. Tim and Lucy have been on parallel paths for a long time.
But now, their roads have converged in the purest of ways—two humans daring to risk it all... because they're worth it.
And despite being in a transparent box, nobody's looking in, and Tim and Lucy aren't looking out. They only see each other, and the possibilities opened on the blank page of the rest of their lives. Oh, I can't wait to watch it unfold.
Thank you all for reading. What comes next? Only the writers know... but I'm loving this ride, and I want to thank each and every one of you who told me over the summer that I needed to check this ship out. You were right! They're magic.

Hello Chatte,
How have you been doing?
I have this thing that's been pestering me for a while now. A lot of NH defenders/shippers swear on their life that there are strong parallels between her and Kushina and it's a hill these people are willing to die on.
They love to cite examples from that god forsaken series called Boruto, where they have comical moments of Hinata being the ''scary mommy'' trope and a ''hot headed wife'' just like Kushina. This doesn't sit well with me and I just see it as SP being SP, nothing more, nothing less; and for the NH fan to be like ''ohh..... look...... there are so many parallels between MK and NH. NH was planned from the beginning. yay...... '' Those sorta BS (pardon me my French).
Also, I'd like to point out that I'm an anti ender not because of the pairing reasons but because of how the ending happened. All thanks to each and every character being nothing more than a pairing fodder, the show has left many debates as to what it's messages and themes are.
I really have zero reasons to like female characters like Sakura and Hinata but this, this is beyond character assassination and also an insult to the fan base, especially those who gave common sense and aren't blinded by pairing choice. For me how the characters are treated is way more important than shipping.
Also, when is your next YT video on Boruto being Oro's genjutsu gonna be released?
Thank for reading my somewhat lame and a long comment and I wish you the best with Kaika Saisei
Cheers!
Hi there,
Well, for the whole NH thing, the reason why they insist is because the sequel did a 180 and changed her characteristics, so ofc they are willing to die on that hill.
But we all know if we look at the actual content from the manga that she has nothing in common with Kushina nor Minato like they like to say. Kushina is loud and passionate. Where have you seen Hinata display those qualities? Whereas Minato is calm & calculated, something that she isn't once again. She's quiet & shy but that doesn't equate the calmness Minato displays. Not to mention we've seen even in this one shot that Kishi wrote that Minato can also get super passionate from time to time, whereas Hinata has never displayed that feat.
All in all for this whole thing to work they had to turn her into Sakura. It's clear as daylight to anyone who isn't a NH. Even a neutral. So why consume your energy with what they're saying? It's not like it's true. The evidence to support that is those 15 years of serialization prior to the ending that holds all the weight.
We all know TL & the other products at the end were made so that they can retcon the pre-established narrative.
The show ending the way it did basically destroyed everything Naruto once as a story stood for. Sad, but true.
I always said I wouldn't have had any issue with the choice of pairings if done correctly. After all, I used to be a multishipper once. I saw the potential that all had in the beginning. It's just that when part 2 launched, the story was clear of its direction - of course, until they decided to retcon again and to hell with everything.
And sadly, the girls got the short end of the stick. Both Hinata & Sakura, if we're being true to ourselves. But these people are ready to die on a hill just because they're so attached to their opinions rather than seeing the story for what it is - a great emotional impact story, but with a lot of issues underneath it if you put aside the emotional impact.
It's the reason why it pulls so many people into it. Because it's filled with emotional manipulation, in a way. Look at the way the franchise also directs its marketing campaigns for other materials/products. They scan the internet, see what the talk is in the fandom & then bam, there they are with their products that just so happen to have the thematic of whatever talk is in the fandom - like when they are some sort of servants because at some point NH & SS were arguing about who's richer and who's the servant and who's the patron and all kind of BS like that.
Or when we in the NaruSaku fandom had an extensive talk about tarot and the symbolism that surrounds NS and 6 months later bam, there they are with products with tarot themes.
Or that game they have and I saw two of the concepts I had for Sakura combined into a third one.
Tumblr media
They basically combined these two artwork concepts into the third one that is their image from the game.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So what can I say? As you can see, Pierrot be doing whatever it is to get their way, lol.
If you think about the girls - when they thought Hinata was more profitable, they pushed her in everybody's face so much so that it affected the story's ending.
Now that Sakura's more profitable, they discarded Hinata like a used toy and she barely makes any appearances outside her mom-like persona.
This only shows anyone with a little critical thinking that SP has no respect for any characters nor the story. It's just about the $$$ and that's it. Nothing more, nothing less.
But meh, anyway, at this point is more than funny lol. It's just Pierrot being Pierrot tbh... Nothing good can be expected of that studio.
As for my next video, I'm planning on getting back to work on these somewhere in March.
Last year I've been caught up with a major life event so it really hindered my capacity to take care of everything that I wanted to do, but as I said, I'm planning on getting back to these.
It's just that I'll need to edit some things since I initially envisioned it in a certain way and there are certain changes that happened in the meantime, that kind of rendered some of the things I worked on obsolete, so I'm trying to adjust to that. But yeah, as soon as I have everything up and running again, I'll definitely start working on it.
And aah dear, don't worry, your question was not lame! Thank you for dropping into my inbox and for your wishes regarding Kaika!

The Kinda/sorta SI!Aizen Sosuke Isekai AU
because my brain has been blessed with works from cywscross/cheshiresense, like the Ichigo and Aizen Time Travel AU, and the amazing I (Not) Aizen Sosuke by Williamcipher, I'm gonna half-hazardly note this idea out because I can not write bleach fic to save my life.
--------------------------------------
So, first things first; why is this only sorta SI!Aizen Sosuke?
Because, this is technically Aizen Sosuke, just a parallel from a modern universe and because the thought of a Milennial!Aizen makes me want to fucking cackle like a banshee. Like, Sosuke is still a tricky, nasty little genius, but he's actually had therapy and the internet to get any teenage angst and black history out. (Which he denies ever having, like a lair) And yes, He has suffered Retail, so he can and will be the fakest bitch you ever did see, the customer service smile never forgotten despite how he wishes he could. He's had to grow from a life of poverty, clawing and reaching for everything he's had, but he's also had the public library and some really damn good teachers to have his back, an actual safe place for him to fall back too.
(Amazing, what a difference it makes.)
So, as a kid, Sosuke practically read everything he could get his grubby hands on, partly to better himself, partly an escape, when he came upon his library's selection of comics and manga; he found a certain series; Fullmetal Alchemist.... Just, imagine this young, little genius reading such a book at such a young age; think of how he would react to such twists and chills this story brings, and how it unknowingly shaped him. (how it inspired him).
This started a very big, very large rabbit hole for the kid; he could not get enough after that; which, in the end, leads him to a manga called Bleach. He ends up enjoying it, not as much as Fullmetal, but the story does peak his interest, from Ichigo's charisma, to even side characters like Gin's treachery and Urahara's puppetry. it is a fasinating story in it's own right, even as the villain, Aizen both intrigues him and frustrates him.
Like, his motives and ambitions, along with his skills should not make such a fucking flat as depth character! Where is character depth, why does he fucking monologue so damn much? Why not explore the sense of loneness that Ichigo saw, especially once we reach the Qincy War and he still sided with SS? Sosuke would like a little more justice for a character with so much potential and shit, a villain through and through, and yet one of the greatest helps at the end.
(We do not mention the Bleach Epilogue, and it's not because Sosuke ships Ishida and Inou, nope, it just doesn't exist, out of spite out of mind. why does he ship it? because why not :D)
So, for this relatively self-adjusted Aizen Sosuke, he suddenly dies one day, only to find due to certain circumstances, (I'm gonna say a certain wishing rock, his soul being distantly connected, wrong place wrong time, shitty luck, and his death not actually be an accident >_> how energy can not be destroyed or created technically, so it attached to his soul) Sosuke finds himself kinda sorta before what might be the Soul King(?) and he's gonna have to be born as Bleach!Aizen Sosuke cause funky things happened across dimensions, and it's either this or have his soul shredded in unbearable agony.
Sosuke:... So what, I become a Shikigami and get guaranteed a one way ticket to hell the minute I die? Soul King: Not if you play your cards right; but yeah, the Visored still need to be a thing, so have fun figuring that out :D Sosuke: Fuck. You. *so starts his Tries to figure out a way to fucking change the whole Soul King system so the Captains and such don't have to became hellspawn the minute they die and how to create Visored consensually*
So yeah, Aizen Sosuke is a pretty different animal in this world; He still has the damn Customer Service smile, because it has become a very important tool in survival among those damn annoying nobles, is a bit snarky tho but very, very rarely because corpal punshiment with whips and such is actually still a thing here and people do get so very nasty because they can with Outer Rukongai Trash as he is called.
But it's so pathetically easy to find souls and such that willingly let them be experimented on if it means their families get fed or they don't die in the cold. the only illusions Sosuke uses is to disguise himself with or erase memoires of conversations if the soul choses not to be experimented on. Otherwise, Sosuke is brutally honest in what he's doing, what can happen to the soul, and what it can cost.
(It's kinda understandable, that other Aizen Sosuke's ambitions, with just how fucking many take him up on that offer so fucking willingly, some even happy with it.)
So things happen, Sosuke really doesn't want to create a certain death marble, but the way things are going it's looking like it, seeing as he is nowhere near close to his goals. (He thinks of such a thing, this Hogyoku, thinks of just how many suffered for it, how it twisted a version of himself, the temptation of twisted promises, and this man can't help but hesitate, uncertain of temporing with such things beyond him. He might be a version of Aizen Sosuke, he might be made up with twisted ambitions and his own greed, Rukongai chewing him up and spitting him out into something that will survive, letting him see just how deep his inner demons are... but as he is parallel, there are lines he will not cross.)
So, Sosuke on a whim and coffee withdraw, (with nightmares haunting his feet and dreams, screams and blood seemingly drenching them) sees if he can maybe at least get along with Urahara Kisuke. After all, he's pretty sure he won't get the worst case scenario, with the man plotting his downfall one step at a time at least.
(It is the start of the best and worst relationship anyone in Soul Society has ever seen; Like, 95% of SS thinks these two are just really intense, hateful rivals who get under each other's skin like no one else can, concerns about how the two spar really rough with each other, people guessing if anything they must have had hate sex at least once because of battle high. the startled concerns with how their debates are rough and harsh, their Rukongai language actually coming out as they argue and growl at the other even as they smartly trash the other sides pro's and cons, only to get served a minute later.
The remaining 5% is split between groups who think the relationship is like the worst married couple ever, you think they're on their way to a divorce any minute now, with maybe a concern of toxicity. But the other part, with maybe one or three people who have actually looked at this relationship, really look and realize; oh... so that's how love can look like too... huh.
Because for these two broken, bloody men showing the world they have something they care about, something they treasure and love is never a smart thing; it only gets it stolen from them or tossed aside. So all their gentle touches, soft words, the domestic bliss of Sosuke able to cook and serve a little tea on the side as Kisuke rambles with bright eyes about his favored project at the moment, of just holding the other close as they sleep after rough missions and nightmares; this is only to be had behind closed and reinforced doors so they don't risk this person who they world destroy worlds and more for) But that is later; much later; for now, the two are snarky besties who take pot shots at each other but will mentally screw with others who would say shit about the other.
And then... the thing that Sosuke has been trying to do, the Hollowifcation that he has been struggling to reach all this time, has been failing at... is done; not by him, not by any scientist or some such, but i'm gonna say it was a means to save him and a few others from a fate worst then death or something, Kisuke desperate to do so.
Yes, this does in fact mean We get a Visored!Aizen, cuz why not :3 not to mention, with maybe a few different Visored with maybe a couple still the same. (Kaien and Gin would be interesting in my opinion, with maybe Shinji not actually a Visored in this world, maybe Lisa either if we want to trade seconds of the squads :3)
So yeah, exile happens still, no one hunting them down because the only search parties that would be allowed for them would be assassinations and such, and no one wants them dead besides assholes.
Things happen, things go differently, and in the end Aizen Sosuke, as a soul outside the cycle of reincarnation, one touched by so many different energies, has been both corrupted and become more, with a power and sword that can warp reality, he can touch the throne and not become unmade, can use it for his goal, in return for his own sacrifice
Of course, this is Sosuke; his back up plans have back up plans; so, he goes Isekai protagonist, finding himself in post canon bleach without knowing it, pretty powerless if you didn't count his mind and that he still has his sword, just forced to forget their name and his power cut in half (he's built himself up from nothing twice already, what's once more with some perks and it's not like he won't be able to remember their name; on another note, all his respect for all the sheer bullshit Ichigo had to go through after the winter war).
Of course, Sosuke isn't going to go through this alone; nah, urahara and his fellow visored are like "you're not getting rid of us that easy So-kun :) " and of course others will join in, because they are rebel or die together.
So, all these alternate versions in post canon, what havoc will they cause? A lot; some interactions I want:
Sosuke is injured and past out when canon first finds them, because of the newest villain of the week got lucky and so we have a blood thirsty Kisuke ready to destroy everything, cold blooded and still unlike he usually shows the world. Hijinks happens when all three groups clash, bonds happen, pretty sure the Ichigo effect comes up once or twice as the two groups work together against the enemy flavor of the week, so it's pretty late when peeps realize; wtf, why is an aizen here?
On Sosuke's part; wakes up, bleary-eyed, blinks, takes in a scene before him that is probably a bit ridiculous, before he turns his back to it and goes right back to sleep: I reject a reality where there are two Urahara's :T
Sosuke: ... why am I surrounded by children? *generally confused by ducklings he has unintentionally gathered by being honest and snarky and a really damn good teacher* Kisuke: *laughing not realizing at first that those are now his ducklings too*
Like, a movie night I want to happen, Sosuke and Kisuke starting it because nightmares and trauma, only for Ichigo and other to join in somehow, it becoming a bonding event.
People finding out about how Sosuke ended up being forced to be reborn in a manga and have no choice but to make Visoreds or have his soul stuck in a cycle of constantly being shredded and tortured, but actually trying to make it as safe and willing as possible. Kisuke: WHY THE FUCK DIDNT YOU TELL ME, I COULD HAVE HELPED!!! Sosuke: WHAT DO YOU MEAM WHY DIDNT I ASK, OF COURSE I WON'T, WHO'D BELIEVE FLAMING BULLSHIT LIKE THAT!? I BARELY BELIEVE IT AND I'VE FUCKING BEEN THROUGH IT!
Sosuke: *Been through the worst day possible, almost died, his people he actually has positive emotions for almost died, made it through with a little more trauma." ... Fuck it. *Kisses his boyfriend, uncaring who sees.* Post Canon Characters and others: *Jaw dropped, choked sounds, sputters, and money and bets exchanging hands*
Sosuke to Canon!Aizen:... You can not tell me you have not wanted to pin Urahara to the wall and stab him a little as you kiss him; I know myself well enough.
And welp, here it is, ask me questions if you want or if anyone gets inspired, let me know!

And the war between the ships has begun... sighs... Well, now I want to understand one thing: in the first case we have Minato who notices Kushina who is watching his training because she is worried about him and she approaches him (in all this we remember that she was already Minato's girlfriend at that time) while in the case of Hinata and Naruto she was secretly spying on him without doing anything concrete for him and he didn't even know of her existence in all that but ok! a similar setting is enough and we can already speak of parallelism obviously. Regarding the SS the situation is identical: both Sakura and Kushina show extremely worried about the person they care about at that moment given that both Minato and Sasuke were in the hospital and both were happy with their awakening but the main difference is the situation in which the scene takes place: Minato, in an attempt to stop Kushina's transformation, is seriously injured and seeing Kushina extremely worried about him surprised but also reassured him (note the sweet and calm smile he gives her as she squeezes him) while with SasuSaku we see Sakura extremely worried about Sasuke who hugs him when he wakes up but due to different circumstances. Furthermore, Sasuke has never reacted like Minato with Kushina and coincidentally, when Sakura embraces Sasuke, Naruto is seen with a smile similar to the one his father assumes. Now, the setting could also be the same but this does not mean parallelism. I urge these folks to look for the meaning of true parallelism before spreading such comparisons because comparing the SS or NH to the MK is just a disrespect to Kishimoto's own wife as Sakura is her basis while Naruto represents the author himself. Among other things, seeing so many likes on Twitter on such comparisons only leads me to think how toxic and illogical the Naruto fandom can be and how much people have to try to deny the evidence just to add grist to their own mill. This isn't about ship preferences, everyone can ship whoever they want of course, but about objectivity so please grow up 💀💀💀🙄🙄🙄

Hey guys maybe SHUT THE FUCK UP. Yeah sorry it’s just that samjess and destiel are not the fucking same and trying to make them the same is setting me off like no other.
Sam was doomed since the time he was a fucking baby, he went to college to be normal, a demon possessed his best friend and then introduced him to the love of his life who then died burning on a ceiling in front of him the same way his mother did, oh yeah and said best friend from earlier also died. The three of them were bound to die from the first time they said hello simply because it was Sam they were talking to, getting close to.
Cas and Dean on the other hand. They weren’t even supposed to be as close as they are in canon, Castiel was supposed to DIE OFF and we were supposed to get Anna (his sister) to be a bigger part of the show but fans liked Castiel so much that they kept him and killed Anna and in turn, fucked the storyline. The thing with Sam’s storyline in the first 5 seasons is that it was all planned out, it was cohesive and they knew wtf they wanted to do with him — then the show gets more seasons and fucking somehow they not only fuck up the characters but they fuck the way things are told — and that quote about Castiel being lost for grabbing Dean from hell isn’t said until seasons later when the writers are playing into the queerbaiting narrative that they know will continue to get them views & ratings — also they gave up on Sam’s character but that’s a rant for another day —
ALSO if you’re going to parallel samjess to any ship it should be johnmary because it’s RIGHT THERE. the entire premise of the first 5 seasons is that sam fell into the same fate his father did twenty years ago and now they’re trying to put an end to all of it because that’s what they were destined to do. Castiel was never a part of that shit
and if that’s not enough then I should mention that technically the scene ss above is Lucifer pretending to be Jess so you destiel girlies are paralleling samifer to destiel. So. Do with that what you will

🚨 Ok, I've got something to SAY about lightsingers!!! 🚨
I know the "are lightsingers evil?"... or even just an easter egg... debate has sent this fandom into a tizzy a few times over. We're not on the ship controversy (pun intended), we're on the SS Earnest & Nerdy Close Reader.
My fave part of my TOG/Complete SJMU reread has been zeroing in on two groups of women/females that have long since itched my brain - priestess and witches... I also yearn for a Manorian book after all these years and I have been waiting for their... "boat hangouts" since I started my TOG reread. IYKYK.
Imagine my surprise when this description of a half dead Manon - a witch, yes, but a half Blackbeak, half Cochran heir, and witch queen - paralleled the one fleeting description we get of Lightsingers from Cassian while he, Nesta, and Azriel hunt for the mask (gotta love Manon's beautiful face casually being referred to as a mask) in the Middle in ACOSF.
Both of these scenes warrant a longer close read with more screengrabs (but I'm tired and have a gnarly cold a I can't kick) because both essentially question what it means to be evil... this is an oversimplification, but whether evil is in your nature or if intent is the deciding factor. But here's the lowdown:
In the ACOSF scene, Cassian literally just described witches, "not the human kind," who live in the bog/Middle before describing Lightsingers. Wow, what a fun coincidence. And when Nesta asks why the Prythian powers that be let the Middle and its creatures live, Cassian basically says that it's not right, or their call, to punish something for doing what it was born to do... unlike the inhabitants of the Prison who earned their spot there and needed to be removed from society and have their considerable powers leashed.
In the EoS scene, Dorian asks Manon (after she makes it clear he looks tasty af) if witches are partially human, to which she replies, "Not in the ways that count." Ok, ominous. Then Dorian remembers that witches have human, Fae, and Valg parts, but that "Valg blood had shaped the witches." But when Dorian asks Manon if she feels more human or Valg, Manon immediately responds saying that both the Valg, and Erawan, are her enemies. Nuance!
Things I think are interesting? Many have brilliantly speculated about Nesta's potential witchiness and her being smack dab in the middle of this big parallel is both very fun and, I suppose, unsurprising. The Dread Trove Mask and the allusion to Manon's beauty being a mask has me 👀 Also for all this talk of "oh no a Lightsinger will lure you and control you against your will..." might some of that lore been wrapped up in what it is the mask can essentially do? Granted it can only raise/control the dead, but that would qualify as "horror" to me. I think Prythian, Midgard, and Erilea are victims of the worst game of telephone ever.
Big picture? Every time a character says "oh yeah, we were taught x was evil," pretty consistently we're learning that was some big ol' Asteri (or whatever they're calling themselves on that planet) propaganda. And Cassian being taught that Lightsingers are evil when, by this reading, they could be very important witches? Well, that would make a lot of sense for someone raised by Illyrians who infamously hate witches (and women). Cassian is, of course, our sweet evolved himbo, but he might not know some myths he's always believed were fake news.
Anyway, this deserves a nice, long investigation, but my brain is already succumbing to NyQuil and my IQ is dropping by the second.
I leave you with this moving quote from Manon #growth

ss twt antics yesterday got on my nerves. tell me why on earth were they trying to say young minato looks like SASUKE of all people. also them thinking pink hair makes anyone look like sakura😐. and then trying to say the hospital hug scene was a ss parallel despite both being completely different scenes w entirely different contexts. i have no doubts he wrote that story to mock ss and nh (there was a nh "parallel" too) but instead of seeing it for the mockery it was, fans are convinced he did it because he loves their ships. those people really aren’t bright but idk why i expected any different from them.

just look at minato’s REACTION (because sasuke is so out of his mind he doesn’t even react to sakura forcing contact on him) and you know they are completely different. minato is surprised then looks soft that kushina is hugging him. sasuke just looks broken and like his mind is somewhere else (because it is) since he woke up from a coma after being mentally tortured by his brother. ss shippers are so dumb because kishimoto is clearly giving to minakushi what they wanted ss to be, but they will see hospital hug and jump to “PARALLELS!!!!!” even though only one of them looks good. this fandom is so dumb, can’t relate to being that incapable of reading.

Ship tier for Murasakibara? :)
Tumblr media
Lovers: I have to admit I don't really think about MuraHimu a lot(it should be obvious who is on my mind 99% of the time) however I really like the fact that it's so much more than what it seems. You can take it at surface level and say that Himuro is nice to him and kinda acts like his big bro/mom but it's so much deeper than that?
Like their relationship is great because they are so different. Murasakibara is a player made from talent, its even been confirmed that until high school he was pretty much relying on instinct to play while Himuro is nothing but hard work. Its not just in basketball either but also in academic areas. Himuro resents murasakibara's talent and murasakibara doesn't get why he even cares and even though they are so different they do love each other a lot and that's very cool.(This became very long sorry)
SS+: Because I already talked way too much in the other one I'll keep this one as short as possible. I love how Akashi spoils him so much(giving him snacks he won at the festival, giving him his popsicle so that he doesn't but more etc) but also cares about his health its really cute. Also the scene in last game where mura helps akashi(bokushi) up is very heartwarming and its a very touching parallel to teiko. I think they're very cute.
I shipped it as a joke but I dont think its a joke anymore: Okay yeah at first I shipped MuraMido because lmao but then I started looking into it and now I can actually see it. Despite their differences and how much they bicker(let's be real bickering is its own love language) they are still pretty good friends actually. Midorima lends Murasakibara books quite often according to the psp game and Murasakibara compliments midorima quite a lot there too. When Midorims was complaining about wearing a women's kimono Murasakibara intersects with a "But you looked good in it though" his words not mind. And this was not in a mocking way btw.
Brothers in Spirit: I don't know what I mean by the tier name honestly but it works ig. Kuroko and Murasakibara have very different ideals and also disagree a lot but the love is there. I really do see them as siblings tbh. I can see Mura lying down after practice and Kuroko collapsing on top of him and then they just lay there together until someone(Akashi) tells them to get up.
I read one polyam fic with MuraHimu: Yeah I actually did read a couple of drabbles with MuraHanaHimu and they're all actually very sweet. Still don't know my opinion about this ship though but Im open to it.
They eat together: Honestly MuraKaga just seems so funny to me. Like all these two would do is eat then bicker then eat then bicker then eat again theres a touch if basketball in there somewhere too dont worry. The eating periods are like temporary truces until Murasakibara reaches over and grabs one of Kagami's burgers and then all hell breaks loose. And Himuro is between them trying to keep the peace and failing spectacularly.
Cute but not my thing: Idk Im not into this ship purely because the KiyoHyuuRiko is too strong within me.

that 2-3 cutscene, part iii: barok
you know that cold sinking feeling you get when something you’d kind of guessed but hadn't confirmed yet turns out to be true? like, you knew, but you didn't have proof- and now you do, and there's just this pit in your stomach, because even if you knew you didn't want it to be true?
yeah, that’s barok in this.
going into this scene, barok has more than enough information to put things together. if you show him your armband at the very beginning of 2-3 he asks what it is, and when you explain, he asks why you're showing it to him. but then he says this:
“......... I can understand, at least... ...there's merit in reminding yourself of who helped you become what you are today.”
as a response to “here's the thing that marks me as a lawyer,” this doesn't make any sense- the armband belongs to ryunosuke, why would it remind him of someone else- unless barok knows, to some extent, what happened on that ship: that ryunosuke got that armband from a friend who died, who is the reason ryunosuke became a lawyer, and it is a reminder of that friend. and just to hammer it in, on his next line, he gets a very particular damage animation: specifically, the one where he looks away and puts one hand over what we will later find out is, of course, his dead brother’s prosecution badge.
this is all circumstantial evidence at best, but why would barok reference these parallels between him and ryunosuke so strongly, unless he knew they were there? unless he knew that ryunosuke, like him, lost someone close to him, and now works as a lawyer in their name?
and three months ago, barok got a new apprentice: who doesn't remember anything about himself, who's not allowed to show his face in front of anyone, and who’s not allowed to speak to “anyone outside of this office”- which excludes most people but, notably, does not exclude barok. so if we assume that barok knew about what happened on the ss burya, then, given that kazuma speaks with a japanese accent, barok can probably realize those two things are most likely not a coincidence.
and again, we have no proof for this, but barok knew genshin. If genshin ever mentioned his son’s name in front of barok, and barok remembers it, then once susato says kazuma’s name on that exhibition stage, barok has all the pieces to put together everything that's revealed at the end of 2-3.
and barok’s no fool. i think he does put those pieces together. i think by the time we reach that last stretch of trial, he knows who kazuma is, and how kazuma relates back to him. when you first start poking at the professor case with that waxwork, he says
“You should know... ...that you're on the brink of opening Pandora's box.”
as a reaction, this makes sense- this is a messy painful case with a fair bit of mystery still surrounding it and you're dragging it back up again- but this would also make sense for someone who has very recently realized that something more is going on here, something that loops back to the professor case, and he may not know what it is but he knows that it’s why he has this apprentice, here, now.
i think barok knew what was going on here. i think he knew that something about the professor case was crawling back from the dead, and i think that's in part why he chooses to reveal the secret to ryunosuke at the end of this case.
and i think in that final cutscene, his reaction is less shock, or surprise, and more just that cold, quiet feeling of, “oh. i was right.”
technically, this is not really a betrayal on kazuma’s part. kazuma didn't remember- it's not like he was choosing to apprentice himself to barok, or to hide his identity. but the technicalities of it don't matter. barok may not trust anyone, but if he had any faith in his apprentice at all- and he would have had to, at least enough to fight with kazuma by his side- then functionally this is a betrayal.
we don't see a lot of barok’s reaction in this cutscene. and that's fair! there's a lot going on! but i'd hazard a guess that at least part of it is about taking every emotion he's ever felt about his apprentice and shoving it as far away from him as possible. he made the mistake of letting himself have an ally again- and then it turns out that that ally is the son of the man who destroyed his life, the son of the first person to break his trust so badly that ten years later he still doesn’t believe in anything.
barok’s been betrayed once before. and now another person standing beside him has turned out to be part of something dark and terrible, that destroyed his life once and may very well do so again. no wonder barok calls him the living afterimage of his father.
like everyone else, barok experiences the ending of 2-3 as a resurrection. but for him it’s a revival of something he knew- and never wanted to see again.
(again, credit to @ifidogaysomyself for the basis of a lot of these thoughts.)

'KawaSara fans just want everything to just be Naruto 2.0, they dont want anything new or different they only ship it cuz its like SS'
The same mfs sayin that:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Stfu, the only ones your fooling are yourselves, your just fine with Naruto 2.0, but only for the ships YOU want canon.
'B-but their a mix of multiple OG ships not just one so its different!'
Thats even WORSE, it makes them the most unoriginal ship and just a weird amalgamation of OG ships with nothing of their own, their just NaruHina, MinaKushi, ItaIzu, ObiRin, NaruSaku, SasuSaku, SasuNaru etc all over again, but yea you sure showed us about wanting 'originality' lol
And just to burst your bubble even more, your not special, and your point is invalid anyway because I didnt hear nothin about 2.0 in OG Naruto when these were happening but NOW suddenly its an issue.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But now suddenly its a problem, back then yall called it 'parallels' and 'foreshadowing' but for some reason conveniently when its KawaSara and BoruSumi suddenly its Naruto 2.0 and we need something different than past dynamics
BUT YALL HAD NONE OF THAT ENERGY WHEN NS WAS COPY AND PASTE OBIRIN/JIRATSUNA
NONE OF THAT ENERGY WHEN SS WAS JUST KAKARIN/DANTSUNA
NONE OF THAT ENERGY WHEN NH WAS JUST INVERTED MINAKUSHI
But god forbid KawaSara is just a little too much like SS or BoruSumi a little too much like NH, but Bsa being like [in your words not mine] literally every past OG ship is totally fine and the pinnacle of originality you all wanna see from the sequel, give me a danm break lol
What makes this even more pathetic is that Im not even exaggerating, they've gotten so blatantly hypocritical their even trying to use the Minato one-shot as foreshadowing for Bsa, keep in mind these are the same people who claim to want something new and different, are using a one shot set in the past for an OG ship that happened WAY before Bsa even existed all because of the vortex symbolism and the sequel just happened to have the name vortex in it they think its some kind of parallel/foreshadowing for the pair...which is utterly ridiculous but this aint the post for that, but just friendly reminder the Shippuden in the Naruto sequel meant Hurricane chronicles/legends and the Uzumaki clan has always been symbolized with whirlpools/vortex way before Boruto was even thought of, hell their clan symbol is a literal swirl like a vortex...nuff said, this aint the post to delve deeper into that.
Im mentioning this purely to point out the hypocrisy of wanting something 'different' yet using every possible OG thing thats even remotely similar to boost your ship and show how canon it is, yet KawaSara and BoruSumi cant because then its Naruto 2.0.
Their newest thing lately I've been seein the most is that BoruSara is like MinaKushi and NaruHina because Sarada stalks Boruto etc, so I thought I'd bring this reality check back since these same ppl talkin about other shippers just wanting Naruto 2.0 again.
Like I said, the only ones your foolin are yourselves cuz nobody buys your bs cuz everytime yall pull that card you put your foot in your mouth with all these 'parralels' that are suddenly ok now, but NOT ok when its any of your rival ships . Sit down.
PS: This aint the post to go into this either, but like I mentioned earlier that Bsa is actually the most unoriginal new gen ship, I could literally make a separate post showing how that is and how KawaSara and BoruSumi are actually the more unique ships of the options. You may have noticed I havent mentioned Ksu at all in this...thats because its a joke atp that I nor anybody besides their shippers take seriously, but if I must address it its literally just poorly done SS and SH with a dash of SK so why would I even bother with such a joke of a ship that exists solely to play keep away for Bsa but not because theres any legitimate basis in canon and thrives purely off headcanon and Hondas rewriting of events that amounted to nothing because, shocker, the manga wasnt building anything between them, so Honda created a completely made up foundation for nothing that they scrapped immediately and never acknowledged it again. So much for 'the anime is the complete version of the manga' yea funny how they backtracked alot of their mistakes when they saw the manga contradicting it, cuz at the end of the day the manga is the MAIN source material, so what happens there is more canon than anything the anime does afterwards.

There is one word you can stop a bsa is canon rant:
“They’re on the same team”
SS was the ONLY EVER team marriage and no matter how many parallels there are, it won’t happen.
Exactly Kishimoto has not be in favour of same team romances, SasuSaku which is easily the worse ship is the only one. Plus part of that is simply cause Sasuke was the only possible option for Sakura and a new gen Uchiha was needed.

And here we are with the news on the new chapter of Boruto. We see Sasuke saying that Boruto has become stronger than anyone else and that he wouldn't know what else to teach him more than what he already knows (he's literally a genius; at this point I wonder what the point of his training with Sasuke was since he doesn't come never shown what he taught him and it is assumed that he already knows everything). We see how once again Sasuke outlines his love for Naruto and that he is training Boruto because in him he sees the same eyes and the same determination as Naruto (he is the person who changed him and saved him from darkness and in short the person most important for Sasuke within the team 7). The scene shifts and we see Sasuke and Boruto who are intercepted by the enemies, Sasuke tells Boruto to run away while he is transformed into a tree; recommends him to take care of Sarada. The scene moves to Konoha where we see many characters like Moegi who is transformed into a tree to protect the inhabitants and we also see the leader of these divine trees ask them to decide on a target and so does every tree character e.g. Moegi decides to choose the Ino-Shika-Cho trio, Bug takes Eida and Sasuke aims at Sarada (in short, Sarada is the most important person for Sasuke. So fans expect an intense battle between father and daughter or between master and student). The leader of these divine trees instead decides Naruto as the target (the reason is because his instinct tells him to act like this and because he feels an evolution; yes, I didn't understand either but ok, I'm not surprised by anything anymore). We then have Sumire and Sarada talking to each other about the current situation in Konoha, the conversation is interrupted with the arrival of Boruto who explains that Sasuke saved him despite doubting his memories because he believed in him and also thanks to her. Sarada runs to hug Boruto saying the phrase "you're late, stupid Boruto" who is shocked by the gesture but then reciprocates by saying "sorry, I'm home now". In the meantime we have Sumire witness the scene between the two in silence (needless to tell you that on social media there is nothing but talk about this embrace and how it is the parallel according to the pro enders of the SS during the hospital scene because once again people do not accept the fact that a non-canon ship is present in the intentions of this manga and therefore they tend to deny the obvious parallelism with the NS just because Naruto did not return Sakura's embrace or because the ship did not become canon and therefore it is impossible for them that BS will have the same treatment). I'll be honest, I don't give a damn about these parallels and I would really prefer that NS wasn't part of this rubbish but here we're talking about totally denying the evidence even when we don't like it. It's been pointed out a thousand times that Boruto is like Naruto and Sarada is literally Sakura 2.0 with all her flaws removed. I also like to point out how the author himself highlights the nickname that Sarada gives to Boruto as soon as she sees him again, i.e. "Baka" which is exactly the same as the one Sakura uses with Naruto. I also hear people say that Sarada has feelings for Boruto while Sakura only loves Sasuke and sees Naruto as a friend and yet when evidence is shown that Sakura really liked Naruto it always comes back to brotherly love; or that while Boruto reciprocated Sarada's gesture, Naruto did not do it with Sakura and therefore it is not the same (perhaps because the situation was different and while in the first case it is a comforting hug in the second we see a reaction of shock?) . do you see the double standards here? I'm sure that if the BS doesn't become canon in the end anyone would agree to compare it to the NS but given that this isn't the case and that since the beginning of the manga the story has been set up with Sarada as Boruto's love interest and him as her protector, people will always find justifications to give grist to their own mill
