January 1940. But who is "Ultra"? Seen here in ACTION COMICS #20, the Ultra-Humanite was one of Superman's earliest recurring foes, having debuted in ACTION COMICS #13 seven months earlier. However, Ultra previously looked like this (as seen in ACTION COMICS #14):

As the villain explains to Superman in this issue:

I guess that's one way to deal with gender envy.
Ultra made only two Golden Age appearances in the body of Dolores Winters, ending her subsequent appearance (in ACTION #21) by apparently leaping into a live volcano, but she later returned in (considered chronologically) ALL-STAR SQUADRON, YOUNG ALL-STARS, the "Mr. & Mrs. Superman" stories in THE SUPERMAN FAMILY, JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #195–197 (where Ultra took on his/her now more familiar mutant white ape body), INFINITY INC. #1–10, et al. Versions of the Ultra-Humanite also appeared in the James Robinson/Paul Smith THE GOLDEN AGE miniseries, and more recently in the STARGIRL TV show, since he/she is now considered more a JSA villain than a Superman one.

Carver Colman -- Easter Egg, Universal Constant, Or Clue To Something Bigger?
Nathaniel Dusk (1984) and its aptly-named sequel Nathaniel Dusk II (1985) are two relatively obscure yet magnificently well-written/drawn miniseries that follow the 1930s adventures of the titular hard-boiled PI. The books by themselves stand apart from the DCU as a whole and Nathaniel has never once gotten a mention or appearance in the universe at large, yet Geoff Johns used the miniseries as the basis of an in-universe noir serial in Doomsday Clock (2017).
Tumblr media
(Doomsday Clock #10)
More curiously, the actor playing Mr. Dusk in the serial -- Carver Colman -- became not only a central figure in Jon Osterman/Dr. Manhattan’s life as the series progresses but also a majorly significant character by himself as the first openly gay actor in Hollywood and as a gay activist.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Doomsday Clock #12)
As much as I love Carver’s story for what it means, this is where it gets really interesting: throughout every episode of Geoff Johns’ Stargirl season 3 we’ve seen the Nathaniel Dusk films advertised at Blue Valley’s local cinema.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Stargirl S3E09)
Tumblr media
(Nathaniel Dusk #1 between Rick & Beth, Nathaniel Dusk II #3 next to Yolanda, and Nathaniel Dusk II #2 next to Beth)
And then another Carver Colman mention came along in The New Golden Age (2022) #1, where we learn that canonically gay character Michael Mayne -- The Harlequin’s Son -- played him in a biopic.
Tumblr media
(The New Golden Age #1)
All of which leads us to last night’s (30/11/2022) Stargirl episode where we not only got yet another Carver Colman mention but we even saw him!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Stargirl S03E12)
The award show setting also makes me think this may very well take place the same night as the April 18th 1952 panel here:
Tumblr media
(Doomsday Clock #10)
So, as we know Doomsday Clock is one of the main books to have led to the current newly-released Justice Society of America (2022) ongoing and characters from it will undoubtedly show up in JSA somewhere along the way, I have to ask -- will we see more of Carver and what does his presence mean? I’m very excited for this journey Geoff’s taking us on!

Nooo. Fuck you, fuck you, fuck you.
Larry and Paula did not have to die!!
I am so tired of this dumb fucking trope of “villain wants to redeem themselves and starts working good but then we kill them off”. Usually, it happens even faster, so they don’t have to be shown doing good at all and the sentiment is all that counts. But it’s so lazy. So boring. So bad.
There is so much more satisfaction in seeing someone who has done wrong in the past actively work on being better people, learn how to be better people.
The way Paula was trying to integrate herself into society, make an effort. Make a friend.
Seriously, those two characters were so great, because they inverted boring, overdone tropes in such great ways. Above all else the stupid “villains don’t love” trope, by being so utterly in love with each other and loving and supporting their daughter. No abuse, no cold hearted behavior. Sure, they killed people and were villains but they were also human.
And to see them work hard on being better people was so much fun to watch, it was so great! So to have them killed off like that is just... undoing the great I thought the writers had done so far. Damn this shit.

I finally finished watching the final season of Stargirl and man am I going to miss this show. It was just such a fun show to watch. It embraced the campiness of adapting comic characters and designs to live action while also balancing that with some really fresh takes on characters (like holy shit I love what they did with the Crock family). And that finale season to wrap everything up was such a beautiful final bow that I was not expecting to get. The cast and crew did a phenomenal job and I'm really going to miss seeing them work on this project.

warnings : mentions about dying, cleopatra's grave (i hope that's the thing a woman got close to finding), but suprisingly not else
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"and the closest person to find her grave was a woman, can you believe that?" you said, pausing the video. percy nodded exictedly with you, head resting on your shoulder.
"you really know a lotta stuff about cleopatra," he said and you rolled your eyes. "duh, im egyptian." percy chuckled, kissing your shoulder. "yeah, my bad."
you guys were doing a picnic out in the camp's secret forests, one that you two managed to found in one of your sneaking out sessions. you both layed under the stars, percy snuggling into you like a koala while you made him watch cleopatra documentary videos with you.
you put your phone away, playing with percy's hair instead. percy was now watching the sky just like you, trying to find constellations.
"what's that?" he pointed out. you looked where he was pointing. "orion." you explained, resting your cheek on his head. percy hummed, still searching for stars to ask you.
"and that?"
"big bear."
"that?"
"aquarius."
"you know so many."
"i know all of them percy."
he chuckled at your response, kissing your colarbone. "my bad again, sorry." he murmured and you only smiled. "i didn't know you could see this much constellations from camp."
"i know right?" he agreed, hugging your waist tighter. "do you have the power to create a constellation?" he asked softly. you hummed, thinking for a moment. "maybe, who knows?"
"would you make me a constellation if i died?" he asked quietly.
"stop asking things like that," you warned, already starting to overthink. "you know i hate these conversations."
"yeah, sorry. my ba-"
"your bad, i know." you both laughed. after a minute of silence, you finally had the courage to answer his question.
"i wouldn't." you whispered.
"hm?" he asked, resting his chin on your colarbone. "you wouldnt what?"
"i wouldn't turn to you in a constellation." he frowned, standing up on his elbows. "why not?"
"you'd shine so bright that the other constellations wouldn't be seen."
