The Curse of Dracula's Tomb
Tumblr media
Once upon a time, in a faraway land, there was a brave and curious adventurer named Ellowyn. She had always been intrigued by the legends of a forgotten castle where there had been no signs of life for years. Despite the rumors of danger, Ellowyn was determined to uncover the truth and find the Tome of Eldritch that was said to be hidden within its walls.
Ellowyn approached the castle with caution, her heart racing with excitement and anticipation. The castle's once grand architecture was now crumbling, with vines and weeds growing through every crevice. She cautiously made her way through the dirt corridors, stepping over broken furniture and debris. As she pushed deeper into the castle, she ignored the pleas of her intuition to leave and continued to search for the Tome.
Finally, she arrived at the main room of the castle, where she found a large stone tomb. She knew that Dracula had passed away many centuries ago, but still, she couldn't resist the urge to investigate further. As she approached the tomb, she opened the stone casket, only to be surprised by a creature rising from within. The creature wore Dracula's clothing but had a wooden face, and Ellowyn knew it could not be human.
Without hesitation, she threw a smoke grenade to the floor and disappeared from sight, hiding in the shadows as the creature emerged from the tomb. The remains of Dracula had corrupted the area where his body lay, and the creature was no longer a mere piece of wood left forgotten through Dracula's heart.
Ellowyn watched in horror as the creature's roots grew out of the tomb, rapidly covering the walls of the room. She knew she had to act fast if she wanted to escape before it was too late. She pierced the creature's eyes with her dagger and blinded it, allowing her to jump inside the casket to investigate. But to her surprise, it was empty.
Realizing time was running out, Ellowyn made a break for the door, only to find it blocked by a group of blights that had appeared from the roots growing out of the tomb. She didn't have time to think and ran towards the window, breaking the glass with her impact and falling to her death.
But fate had a different plan for Ellowyn, as she was caught by a rope that had been carefully placed before her fall. She used it to lower herself back into the castle through a window on a lower level. There, she finally found the Tome of Eldritch. It was exactly what she had been searching for.
Ellowyn escaped with barely a scratch, but from a distance, she saw the Gulthias tree take over the castle, and the curse of the blight began to corrupt the surrounding land. Nevertheless, she had achieved her goal, and she returned home with newfound knowledge and the Tome of Eldritch to prove that the legends were indeed real.

Is it April already? ☔️ We still have snow so it feels like winter. ❄️ Anyone else have a reading slump after New Year’s? Don’t get me wrong, I had a ton of awesome books to read. But I couldn’t keep my attention on the pages. I am happy to report that my slump officially ended in April! I’ve been binging lots of swooney reads (old and new) and discovered (Minerva Spencer, historical romance) or finally read a few authors I’ve been meaning to (like Piper Rayne, contemporary romance). Have you found any new-to-you authors lately? JD Cadmon is a new-ish author, but not new to me. It’s my pleasure to call her a friend and writing buddy. 🔥🐺 A FERAL SPARK 🐺🔥was her debut novel (paranormal found family + romance) and it’s a heart-warming read that centres on finding one’s family and place in the world when you have something a little supernatural in your back pocket. Along with many bumps in the road caused by this extra something. The romance subplot will sweep you up—I challenge you not to cry happy tears at the end! *Queer MF romance, friends-to-lovers🏳️‍🌈 *Genetically modified werewolf🐺 *Fire shifter, the first of her kind 🔥 *A disgraced geneticist bent on professional redemption 🧬 Swipe to read a snippet and the blurb! Link in bio! And check JD Cadmon out on Twitter! #paranormalfiction #aferalspark #supernaturalfiction #indieauthors #friendstolovers #readingslump #aprilreads2023 #jdcadmon #fiction #foundfamily #queerbooks #bookstagram #bookreview https://www.instagram.com/p/CrgZiAFL_eW/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Let's talk about The Harrowing from @storyglasspod . A supernatural fiction, British police procedural with well know actors?? Yeah, of course, sign me up! The Harrowing is a story about Police Sargent, Jackie O'Hara, Joanne Froggatt (Anna from Downton Abbey!) , she's doing an interview with the departmental higher ups after a horrific series of events on the remote Scottish island of Toll Mòr. It all begans when she arrives on the island following an emergency call from a local farmer. She arrives just in time for a massive, once in a century storm that cripples communications on and off the island, but that's only the beginning of the troubles to come. When Jackie gets to the location from the emergency call, it's a farmhouse where the parents are killed and the house is on fire. Now it's her job to protect their surviving daughter, and find the killer. But as more people die, and strangers appear telling an assortment of mysterious stories, lies, and half truths, it becomes more imparitive than ever that Jackie keep the girl safe; and chose who to believe, who to share with, and what side to be on in a literal battle between good and evil. So, if you like British crime dramas, like Touching Evil...or *ahem* something newer that doesn't make me seem old (listen, Robson Green is fabulous), or podcast mysteries with a supernatural twist, like Congeria, or gosh darn it, just love Joanne Foggatt, then The Harrowing is for you!

She's on a journey to the phoenix clan lands and beyond!
Defending the Phoenix Flame by Brenda Trim is now available to preorder!
Universal: https://geni.us/PhoenixFlame
The stakes are the highest they've ever been when fate decides now is the time for me to start a wild phoenix chase...
I'm still not sure I'm meant to be Relic Keeper but the work is never-ending. What's on the agenda now? A call for help from Phoebe that sends me and my trusty sidekicks into action. The Emberflare phoenix clan is missing a very important relic. And while the circumstances are mysterious at best and nefarious at worst, the most important thing is that we retrieve it. And this is no ordinary knick-knack. It's the Phoenix Flame itself!
So much for the safety and security of their entire clan.
As our mission takes us from the secretive phoenix clan lands, where every winged wonder seems to know everyone's business, to the chilly tundras that can freeze your magic socks off, I find myself talking icy creatures out of turning us into powerful popsicles each day. Then comes the twist we never saw coming.
False accusations, endless chaos, and enough mayhem to make any sane person go nuts follow us from one frozen realm to the next. Now it's obvious this artifact adventure isn't as straightforward as it seemed.
But how do we find out who is behind this whole mess before the relic falls into the wrong talons? One wrong move and we'll create a phoenix-sized catastrophe that will leave us all burning with regret!

Next Read
I'm a couple of chapters into my next read, All The White Spaces by Ally Wilkes, and already I'm hooked.
Here's the blurb:
In the wake of the First World War, Jonathan Morgan stows away on an Antarctic expedition, determined to find his rightful place in the world of men. Aboard the expeditionary ship of his hero, the world-famous explorer James “Australis” Randall, Jonathan may live as his true self―and true gender―and have the adventures he has always been denied. But not all is smooth sailing: the war casts its long shadow over them all, and grief, guilt, and mistrust skulk among the explorers.
When disaster strikes in Antarctica’s frozen Weddell Sea, the men must take to the land and overwinter somewhere which immediately seems both eerie and wrong; a place not marked on any of their part-drawn maps of the vast white continent. Now completely isolated, Randall’s expedition has no ability to contact the outside world. And no one is coming to rescue them.
In the freezing darkness of the Polar night, where the aurora creeps across the sky, something terrible has been waiting to lure them out into its deadly landscape…
As the harsh Antarctic winter descends, this supernatural force will prey on their deepest desires and deepest fears to pick them off one by one. It is up to Jonathan to overcome his own ghosts before he and the expedition are utterly destroyed.

She wasn't prepared to discover her magical mate...
Magical Mates and Killer Friends by Lia Davis is now available to preorder!
Universal: https://geni.us/MagicalMates
When I unexpectedly inherit the Ancients Agency, it gives new meaning to fish out of water. I'm determined to bring the company back from the shadows that surround it, though. Not an easy task since the agency had a traitor on the inside. Rebuilding trust with my coworkers - I mean employees - as well as our small town will be my biggest challenge. And given what Kellen and I recently discovered, that's saying something.
Forgetting your fated mate is easy. Getting to know your fated mate all over again is a truly surreal experience. Neither Kellen nor I remember the time before, but we were determined to find a way to break the memory spell.
You'd think it was time for a happily ever after, but then another pack member is murdered. Now I must dive into one of my toughest cases yet, and secrets will be revealed that no one sees coming. I've caught killers before, but it turns out this one has been hiding in plain sight.

Specialising in "fiction that is weird, fantastical and feminist", they have just begun publishing exciting new gothic & supernatural novellas. In miniature form, the two novellas that I gratefully received* currently comprise the entirety of their catalogue. They are pocket-sized, quick reads with stunning cover art. 🚂 Set at Christmas time in a recently post-war Britain, Victoria Williamson's 'The Haunting Scent of Poppies: A Ghost Story' is the perfect homage to traditional scary festive tales of the past. And yet, it is entirely unique; the horror is subtle, unsettling, and increasingly visceral as the terror of WWI seeps into the daily life of a London thief lying low in the country. ⚜️Recommend! 🚂 Fast-paced and impossible to put down, Louise Mercer's 'It's Always Midnight Somewhere' is mesmerising. May Snow is a supernatural cartographer seeking to unravel the mysteries of the midnight train. Though the narrative is excessively complex in parts, the magic refuses to be derailed. The train is an entirely unfamiliar construct that shifts and captivates; akin to 'The Midnight Circus', Mercer's first novella is transporting. ⚜️One to watch! 🚂 *Gifted, with thanks to @littlethornbooks . #indiepublisher #gothicnovel #feministliterature #womenwriters #gothicfiction #spookynerd #spookychristmas #festivereads #gifted #arc #bookstagrammer #bookstagram #bookreview #bookish #newauthor #itsalwaysmidnightsomewhere #louisemercer #thehauntingscentofpoppies #victoriawilliamson #ghoststory #supernaturalfiction #weirdfiction https://www.instagram.com/p/Cmzo3_LrVKf/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
