Do you have clean demo?

No I don’t, because it’s very clearly a fan edit. It’s compiled from the original song, the karaoke version (in which you hear more of Imogen Heap’s vocals), and someone’s attempt to recreate the extended bridge instrumental from the 1989 Tour. It’s a good fake, but it’s still fake. No real 1989 demos have surfaced. But if you still want it even knowing this, you can find it on dbree, or on EJAM Music on YouTube (whom I highly suspect is the reason this is getting passed around). 💕

these two songs remind me greatly of two of my childhood favorite ships of all time: jily and percabeth.

these ships were prominent in my childhood and how i had shaped my own perception when it comes to love and as a big swiftie (since 2008 and i was 4 yo), the immediate comfort that you start to dwell on is when you hear everything has changed. it's one of taylor's timeless songs and whenever i listen to it, it seriously brings me back to summer 2013-2014 when my world circulated on percabeth. i had first watched the films wayback 2011, on DVD after my mum borrowed a CD of it from the school library (and never really got to return it because my sisters and i kept rewatching pjo over and over again).

i started shipping jily when i was in seventh grade bc the summer before i entered freshman high school was the time that i really obsessed over harry potter. i just love them. like. i cant even explain it properly (and i seriously think that being an active member of this dead-fandom (jily specifically), it is my duty to reawaken the ancestor shippers of jily for real).

these ships have a temple in my heart. i literally grew up with them bc never underestimate the love of an 9 year old and a 13 year old girl (major age changes of girls tbh u hit this age u just remember a lot from it)

I want to do lots and lots of fanarts for these two ships. idk. i want to write fics and participate on other creative endeavors about my ships bc they bring me utmost comfort no one in real life and a real person has given me.

I keep seeing Swifties talk about how people are always rooting for her downfall and honestly as someone who was a fan of Taylor for the better part of a decade, that’s just not true. 

2006-2009 there was absolutely no hate towards her. She was just a lil country singer that if you liked her great if not then you just didn’t listen to her. 

2009 is when she became more of a household name because of the Kanye drama. And yes Taylor is successful in her own right but that moment changed the trajectory of her career and ultimately helped her career in the long run. Now this probably lead to her receiving some hate but truly not A LOT. 

I do remember a shift around 2010/2011 towards her where people would actively speak about how they didn’t like her but again nothing truly horrendous. 

I think 2012 when she made her transition into pop music was when people really started to get hate from the media and the general public. 

I also think if I remember correctly it was around 2011-2013 where if you were a fan of Taylor you would be BULLIED for it. And I mean BULLIED. 

2014 was personally in my opinion the moment where most people started to get on the Taylor train and unfortunately this also means hate increases but again she was far more loved than hated. It wasn’t till the Kanye 2.0/Kim drama that made people turn on her. And they really turned on her. She went into hiding because of it. But in hindsight it was a snake emoji. I’m sure she disappeared for more of the embarrassment of the way Kanye spoke about her in his song and then his video. That was gross.

But she came back with Reputation and idk what happened here but it unlocked something in A LOT of her fans. This is where I started seeing a shift again with how the media and general public reacted to her. They were on her side. They were rooting for her. And that’s pretty much how it has been since. Plus the craziness of her fans has only escalated since 2016. 

The only minor shift in public perception I’ve seen is the last year or so. That is mostly due to over saturation or TS going against people’s personal morals. She’s had what two days or bad press and Swifties are saying she’s ones of the most hated celebrities. It’s just not true. Having genuine criticism over a public figure isn’t hate. Watching the way the media and her peers are talking about Taylor with constant praise (whether that’s genuine or fear of Swifties is another conversation) is so drastically different than what so many other stars have endured. 

Now I’m not saying that she hasn’t had hate and I’m not saying that she doesn’t deserve to be treated better because no one should have to go through bullying or hate of any kind. I’m more concerned and annoyed at the way Swifties treat her like a perpetual victim. When there are other stars that comparatively have it so much worse. 

Britney Spears. Miley Cyrus. Madonna. Michael Jackson. Justin Bieber. Basically any celebrity that was super famous in the 00s. Just to name a few that have endured genuinely some of the worst treatment a person in the industry could receive. 

I’m sorry this was so long. I really only came here to say that it’s infuriating that Swifties complain about the hate she gets when it’s not even that bad compared to some others and that most people are afraid to say anything bad against her because of how the Swifties act.

I wish I could! Tbf, I only follow like 2/3 people from those screenshots. But the point is that nobody that I follow among the “big” accounts (except perhaps two people) has refrained from saying mean things about Joe. If I were to unfollow every single account that has said mean things about him since the breakup, I would be left following a lot of small accounts (which are great!!!) and like two big ones. Now, the problem is that the interesting discourse about Taylor happens on those big accounts that every now and then make mean jokes/comments about Joe. It’s just the way it is: if I wanna read the interesting lyrics analyses and if I wanna keep up with the BTS news and if I wanna read new opinions about Taylor, I have to accept that I’ll come across mean opinions about Joe.

The jokes are not even the worst part. I mean, when I read the tenth one in a day I feel like throwing my phone at the wall, but they’re (mostly) harmless. I can also deal with the random theories about the breakup from people who have clearly never read a single interview from Joe. My REAL problem is with the way swifties talk about mental health when it comes to Joe.

It honestly sucks that every morning I wake up and I have to take an anti-depressant and try to feel good about myself only to then read on my dash stuff like “Taylor got better and he didn’t, that’s his fault!”, or “He should’ve worked harder on himself!”, or “He should’ve just gone to the therapist and none of this would’ve happened”.

It’s especially horrible because Taylor has openly talked about her mental health, and swifties are ready to give her ALL the grace and the understanding, but when it comes to Joe’s mental health, their opinion is that he’s just immature and insecure and he made Taylor suffer so fuck his mental health and fuck giving him grace. It’s just a double standard.

It’s also particularly sad because Joe has never openly talked about his mental health, at least not in the way Taylor has done. And yet, swifties choose to speculate about it and they accuse him of not doing enough for the relationship and not getting over his issues (because that’s the way mental health works, folks… you can just choose to get better! Who knew!). And again, they don’t have to. They don’t have to blame his behavior on his mental health. And yet they choose to do it and then they choose to be angry at him for not getting better.

Last week I was this close to selling my Taylor ticket. On the 15th of March of 2011 I was crying because I was in my room instead of being in Milan for the SN world tour. Then I spent another 12 years being Taylor’s fan, I literally cried again when I managed to get tickets, and then last week I was really this close to selling them. It’s crazy to think about, but my disdain for swifties is slowly transferring to Taylor, and it sucks.

This whole album has really made me think of this one interview Taylor did back in like 2011-2012 where she said something like "I'm usually very intelligent. Hey everyone, I’m reaching out to see if anyone can help me get any Era’s tour tickets for the European dates (or any show, I’m willing to fly internationally !!!) and if anyone has any spare or for sale.

I am heartbroken that I haven’t been able to get tickets, I was waitlisted for every single show for the European leg of the tour. This will be my first tour since Speak Now in 2011 (12 years ago!) that I haven’t attended. Taylor concerts are my absolute happy place and the fact that I won’t be able to attend the Era’s tour is just a punch to the gut 😢 I have been a die hard swiftie since I was 13 years old and I am now 27, Taylor has been the soundtrack to my life and has gotten me through the absolute most difficult and lonely times of my life. I miss seeing her tour so much and I am so grateful that I was able to attend the reputation tour before the pandemic kept us all apart for such a long time.

The "ethics" of using clone keycaps - a discussion about counterfeits

In June 2021, I joined a group buy for epbt Dreamscape, a keycap set inspired by BTS's album, Love Yourself. This keycap set was originally scheduled to be shipped around 2022. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case.

Due to the long wait times these sets have and how limited they are, this led to my decision to use clones. As expected, not everyone is happy with this for good reason. But based on the current state of the hobby and how manufacturing times have increased since the pandemic, surely there is some fair argument for using counterfeit.

What are clone keycaps?

Clone keycaps are copies of sets made by designers. "Shady" people and companies would notice a demand for these products and produce a cheaper and in-stock version of these sets.

Normally, GMK sets would be the ones that get heavily copied. However, as more sought-after sets from different manufacturers enter group buy, it comes as no surprise that a company would copy these items.

Why are clones bad?

The simple answer to this is because "you're not supporting the original designer."

The Verge published a really good article about this in 2022, where it interviewed designers who had their designs cloned by others. These designers expressed their disappointment as people would go for the knock-offs and all their hard work went to waste. Especially when the novelties are original sketches.

However, there is an argument to be made that "you can't copyright colours." (Well, technically you can but you have to be a huge company like Barbie and Tiffany & Co. to have some sort of trademark on specific shades).

The concept of purchasing clones and knock-offs isn't new. From high fashion to trading card games, the ethics of using counterfeits has become a topic worth discussing, especially now as the cost of living increases.

Vice Australia released an article about the "twisted ethics" of purchasing high fashion dupes and people are mostly buying them for the brand. Meanwhile, Swifties began looking for alternatives to the Wonderstruck perfume that came out around 2011-2012 in preparation for the Eras Tour. In the Magic The Gathering scene, the discussion about proxies continues to be an ongoing thing, especially when there are good cards that won't be reprinted. This led to Wizard of the Coast releasing an article in 2016, stating that Proxies are fine, just don't use them in sanctioned/official events.

So clearly, there is a demand for these items, especially if they came in limited batches or if they're no longer being sold for various reasons.

My stance on using clones

My original stance on clones is this:

"You can use them during your very first keyboard build. Perhaps even your second. But the moment you're willing to invest in this hobby, you have no excuse to not support the original designer."

Your first build is to see if you would like to be part of this hobby. For starters, the keyset that you want may not be available due to missing the group buy date or will be entering this process. So, of course, clones would be your go-to.

My first build used KAT Arctic clones that I got from Ali Express. It was used on an NJ80, a cheap keyboard that cost less than $200 AUD. And guess what, I was happy with it. But the more I got into this hobby, I knew I couldn't rely on clones forever, especially due to their cheap quality and how it affects designers.

However, when keycaps take forever to be released, being patient isn't worth it anymore. Especially when you have a board just waiting to be used.

Case in point - the dreamscape build.

Why did I use clones?

The clone version of these keycaps was a good temporary measure since I really wanted to use my Ikki Aurora build and get an idea of how the finished product would look. Sure, it wasn't as pretty compared to the original. At the same time, the manufacturer that sold this set had a really bad reputation in the keyboard community.

But the fact this keyset took 2 YEARS for it to be shipped was overkill. The same can be said for KAT Artic. The group buy for this set ended in 2020, but extras in the Australian market weren't available until 2023. THAT'S THREE YEARS TO GET EXTRAS. I had to rely on multiple aftermarket purchases just to get a set. This led to duplicates and fortunately, there was a nice person who lived near my area who was willing to get them off my hands.

The "ethical way" to use clones

So, we know clones are bad. It affects designers and there are companies with shady reputations that would produce these sets. However, there is a demand for sets that either: had their group buy end years ago or are taking their sweet time to be produced.

Is there a good way to grab hold of sought-after keycaps? YES.

The answer: Make IN-STOCK VERSIONS!

The best part, this actually happening. The photo above is an official clone of GMK Modern Dolch Light called OTC Modo Light. While the spacebar was from the official GMK set, the rest of the keycaps were remakes of an old GMK set. These keycaps are still available for purchase on Omnitype.

Meanwhile, CannonKeys announced NicePBT in 2022 and had sets that were based on GMK sets. The store offered refunds to those who pre-ordered GMK keysets and wanted to opt-in to the in-stock version.

And don't get me started on the influx of various GMK Olivia keysets that float in various marketplaces like NovelKeys and Wuque Studios.

While it is very unlikely that every keyset ever made will have an in-stock variant, it's interesting to see that vendors and designers became open-minded to producing available keysets based on designs they've sold before. Not only are they cheaper than the GMK variants, but they also give those who are starting in the hobby to grab hold of official sets, even if the manufacturer is different. It's also important to point out that designers and vendors are opting for the in-stock model, which reduces the production of clone variants.

Unfortunately, there will be people who will go after clones. And that's fair since this hobby is so damn expensive. But if there is a key set that you want and was sold years ago, there is a slight chance that an in-stock variant exists somewhere.

so much has changed since those days. in the original 1989 era, i was a high school sophomore just as obsessed with you then as i am today. i remember being so in awe of the secret sessioners and thinking what a dream! too bad that will never be me.

today, in YOUR version of the 1989 era, aka the only version in my book, im living my best life. i’ve long since grown up, graduated nursing school, came out as a lesbian, WENT TO A SECRET SESSION AT YOUR INVITATION?!??, and am now engaged to the love of my life, Briley, who is also a swiftie. we have one dog and four cats - as last august, the cat distribution system worked when two kittens covered in fleas walked up to us on the street. we named them august and betty. i made them cardigans. i also made your cats cardigans but don’t know how to get them to you. 🤣

anyways, let’s get to the engagement part of things bc when i tell you this is the weirdest, most full circle fairy tale.

let’s start by saying the speak now era has always been extremely special to me because on august 13, 2011 my amazing mom took me and my sister to our first ever concert - the speak now world tour. that show was so magical and perfect for a little twelve and ten year old who thought you were a literal princess. i literally joined your online fan forum the next day!!

the first place i ever listened to lover was your house in nashville. okay, moving on. nothing crazy about that sentence at all.

flash forward, i moved from st. louis to kansas city to live with my amazing girlfriend. we went to the opening weekend of the tour in glendale, where i got a mirrorball tattoo bc of you playing it (and a tweet i made about it…) then we went to nashville night one.

i was already like deeply in my feels about going to your concert in nashville bc that would be the second time i would listen to the lover songs in nashville. i didn’t know how i could ever top the first time!! briley had me covered - she proposed during lover!!!!

then later that night you announced speak now tv. and it was going to be released on the day of the kansas city n1 show - where we live, where we were going. this special era i had been so looking forward to.

then the vault gets announced and there’s a song called when emma falls in love????? what?!?

so at kc n1, i was with my mom and sister and my fiancée was across the stadium with her best friend. i was already dead deceased because you played long live, but then you played NEVER GROW UP. WITH MY MOM AND SIS THERE. we swayed and cried.

THEN YOU PLAYED WHEN EMMA FALLS IN LOVE. TAYLOR I LITERALLY DIED. we as fans always joke that the stars align so mysteriously for you and that night i really felt like they did for me too.

anyways, you probably won’t ever see this (that’s how you have to sign ever letter to taylor on tumblr off!!) but just in case you do, a reminder that i love you so endlessly. my fiancée and i are getting married just outside of kc on 5/25/25 and we would love to see you there.
