I went to Vault 81 with Nick. Some asshole went ”You’d better keep that synth on a short leash”. I didn’t want to aggro the entire vault, so I just glared at them.
Nick seemed unphased.

An idea of how I would rewrite Fallout 4 has been rattling in my head. Characters will be shuffled around and their motives will be different. I’ll expand on the characters and factions changes in other post because this post will end up being way too long.  For this post I just want make changes to the main story. This will mainly apply to our main character, Shaun and the Institute.
The game will begin with your character being woken up from cyro sleep. Codsworth the Mr Handy robot is the one who welcomes into the world. Codsworth will belong to vault tech and is not yours like in the original. Codsworth will explain your player character seems to be suffering from a bit of amnesia from being frozen for so long. Codsworth will try to get you to remember who you are. This will lead into the customization screen and you’ll also choose your special stats. Afterwards Codsworth will explain he doesn’t know why everyone is dead. You can pass a speech check where he explains that someone activated him and told him to release you. He doesn’t know who or why. You can of course look around the vault and if you pay close attention you will notice one of the vault dwellers has a gun shot wound. If you search them you can find a wedding ring. After you finish exploring the vault you and Codsworth will leave the vault and head to Sanctuary Hill.
I feel placing the opening sequence later in the story makes for an interesting mystery. Who are you? Who were those people with you in the vault with you and why are the all dead? Why did someone release you? This way you can get to know your character and decided who they are by the way you play. You did not need some holotape that over explains your backstory and will always be there no matter what. Did we need to know that Nate and Nora were a solider and lawyer? No. And I understand that some people don’t like Codsworth being a household Mr Handy because they were generally used in military bases or as guards. Making Codsworth a vault tech Mr. Handy that was activated by Shaun to wake up your character a bit more believable. I will expand on Codsworth in this new role in another post.
The game can pretty much proceed as normal as you meet the Synth Detective Nick Valentine and he takes you Dr. Amari in The Memory Den in Good Neighbor. Remember your character is suffering from slight amnesia and the pods in The Memory Den will help you unlock the mystery of what happened in the vault. When you are hooked up to the memory pod the original the opening sequence set during pre-war will play out. This is where you’re revealed to have a spouse and baby, then the bombs fell, you were rushed to the vault and frozen. So the random vault dweller with the gunshot wound whose ring you probably sold for caps was your spouse. But how did they die? The memory den will glitch. You’ll see a man in front of cryo pod and before you can get anymore answers the memory starts glitching and you are pulled from the memory. Dr. Amari will explain that your character seems to repressing the memory and there was a danger of hurting you if she tried to force you to remember. Nick will comment that he knows the man who is Kellogg and you will track him down like in the original story. When you retrieve the chip from Kellogg’s brain you watch from his perspective that he murdered your spouse all while you helpless banged against your cryo pod and took your baby to the Institute. The same Institute that your character has learned from the locals is a terror of the Common Wealth. There will be a memory where you can see old Shaun but the player doesn’t know that this is our son yet. It will be very obvious who those persons that gave your character extreme proportions. But for now you will only know this person as Kellogg's boss and the leader of the Institute. Shaun will tell Kellogg to track down and kill Virgil and Kellogg will state in the memory that Vigil is in the glowing sea so he couldn’t get to him. Your next objective is to find Vigil and find a way to save your son from the Institute.
Because I moved the orginal pre-war back story I didn’t want to show the killing of your spouse again from Kellogg’s perspective. It just keeps the pace flowing. In the orginal story showing your spouse’s death once was tragic. Showing it again from a different angle is just “Alright cool, I can see my character banging their hands against the glass.” As you tried to find Kellogg you should have learned with your interactions with the NPCs of the world you should be able to draw your conclusions of the Institute. How much of what people say is true? If they really are that bad what does that mean for your son? You now can put a face to who is in charge of all the abductions and fear mongering. When you find Virgil he can confirm all the horrible things the Institute has done but also the good as well. Vigil can put that doubt in your mind that maybe they aren’t all that bad. Any good or bad sad against the Institute the player will always have their leader’s face in their minds.
Honestly speaking the biggest failing in the main story of Fallout 4 story is that I do not care for Shaun and the Institute. They are a terrible faction because they are never given a good reason for anything they do. Which is a darn shame because they have a lot of plot threads that lead no where. Why did they kick ghouls out of Diamond City? Why are they making Synths and still turn around and treat them like slaves when they have robots? What is the point of replacing people when you are capable of just paying off the traders for information? They have a lot of protentional that could make a player ask a lot of moral questions but writing just drops the plot as quickly as it is picked up.
The Institute could have been well intentioned but misguided scientist faction truly trying to help mankind. The moral dilemma is the ways they go about in trying to solve problems of mankind. Firstly start by giving Shaun a personality. We should interact with him as much as possible. You could like him like you would Nick, or Piper or any other companion. First he would give you little innocent tasks. With each task you complete the more he encourages you, he tells you how happy he is to have you there. He even starts to call you mum or dad. But then he’ll start asking you to do things where someone had to pay the price for in cruel inhumane ways. Sometimes there may or may not be a positive effect. For example they are working on plants that resist radiation and don’t have radioactive effects when consumed. A lot of the food that is grown in the Common Wealth that settlers are surviving on came from the Institute. You can have NPCs say once upon a time food was hard to grow but now suddenly growing crops has gotten easier over the years. This new crop growth is the only possible after kidnapping people and testing their new foods on these poor people to confirm it was safe for human consumption. Will you bring them new test subjects? Another example is instead of the Synths being slaves they are meant to be the next step in human evolution. But the Institute is obsessed with creating the perfect human and not robot slaves. Unfortunately if you do not reach the standards of the Institute you are considered a dud and cruelly experimented on. The Institute thinks these synths suffering are necessary because to them they are helping humanity. Some synths will understand that they aren’t to the Institute standards and believe their sacrifice is for the greater good. Others will not and will try to escape with the help of the Rail Road. Will you help the synths or is their suffering justified because good will come from it? Maybe Shaun will request for you to kill Piper or Nick. Diamond City is under their control and they don’t need Piper or Nick around because they are a liability. Your actions should have consequences and impact you personally. I want the player to question at the end of the day when working with the Institute if the ends justify the means.

At the end of book 1 of my fanfic "The Humanity Game" Nick was very badly hurt and Dolph drove him for some time in a rusty pre-war wheelchair. For both of them, it was a real test of trust. For the first time, the mighty synth Valentine took on a defenseless role, with Dolph forced to protect him from the dangers of Boston.

You’re Perfect
-------------------------------------------
Fandom: Fallout 4
Pairings: Nora X Nick Valentine
Rating: 18+
Warnings: Smut, fluff, romance
Summary: Nick and Nora make love for the first time. Nick is still skeptical about it however....
Notes: Nicky has the proper equipment in my stories, just pretend, okay? ;)
------------------------------
“You sure about this, doll?” Nick questioned nervously; he watched Nora getting ready for bed.
“Of course, I am. I want to show you how much I love you. If you’re not ready, I won’t try it tonight.” Nora explained softly as she looked over at the detective, that sat on the edge of the bed.
“No, I’m ready. Have been for a while.” Nick replied as he met Nora’s eyes. She smiled softly; she sat down beside the detective.
She was careful how she approached this, she wanted Nick to feel loved, not used. He’d never slept with a woman in his synth form before. It was new to him and was terrified that she’d be disgusted with his body.
He wasn’t exactly a newer model synth, his skin was grey and torn in many places, wires hung out, and rust outlined the holes on his body.
Nora placed her hand on Nick’s tattered face and gently led his face towards her, his golden halos shone a bright color as he met her dark brown eyes. She was beautiful, he was still breathless, that such a stunning woman would want someone like him.
Nora leaned in slowly, her full lips pressed against Nick’s thin, tattered lips. His circuits malfunctioned for a few seconds, processing the kiss. He leaned further into her, savoring her lips on his.
Nora pulled away, she stood up, Nick still dazed followed her movements with his eyes.
She pulled off his coat, he let her. Something washed over him, an overwhelming feeling of trust. He knew he could trust her. She wouldn’t degrade him.
Once his coat was off, Nora unbuttoned his shirt and pulled it off as well. She discarded them. She still wore her bed clothes, she didn’t want to be so quick, she wanted to take her time and praise her Nicky. Making him feel as handsome as he was to her.
She laid him on the bed, he didn’t protest, the mattress dipped when the woman crawled on top. She ran her fingers down Nick’s chest, the sensitive wires made him feel every movement.
“You’re so handsome.” Nora said breathlessly as she leaned down and kissed the tattered skin of her lover and the holes that covered a good portion of his body.
Her fingers explored and tested what he liked. Her lips never missed an inch of her lover. She praised him with silence. Nick closed his eyes, loving every second of this praise.
------------------------
After her soft praises, she unbuttoned his slacks. She looked at him, her eyes asking for consent, Nick nodded slowly, giving her his consent. She smiled softly and pulled his slacks off and dropped them on the floor.
Nora pumped his member slowly, savoring the moment, Nick hissed as he watched. Nora looked up at him,
“Is this alright?” She questioned softly,
“More than.” Nick breathed. Nora nodded once more, she continued to pump him in her fist, it was a slow and sensual pace to give him the best experience. She didn’t want to rush it.
Once the detective was hard, Nora softly leaned down and wrapped her lips around him, Nick growled as he grasped the blanket with his metal hand.
Nora went down on him slowly, letting him enjoy every movement. She was careful to not hurt him or to make it uncomfortable in any way. Nick sighed and tipped his head back.
When he looked at her again, her picked up her chin, making her look at him. Her dark eyes were glossy and full of adoration. Nick smiled, he pet her hair, then held her jaw in his palm.
“So beautiful.” He purred. Nora smiled at him, she was the only woman that ever went down on him like that and made him feel special. She was never disgusted or disappointed with him and that was more than he could have asked for in a partner.
----------------------
Nora continued for a good while, until Nick wanted to return the favor. She kissed his lips softly, lying beside him, he slowly undressed her with shaky hands.
Once Nora’s clothes laid on the floor beside the bed, Nick mapped her body and decided to start with her lips. His lips ghosted over hers in a soft kiss. He ran his hand down her side, making her shiver.
Then he kissed her neck, Nora let out a soft mewl. Nick kissed every inch of her that he could reach, he kissed down between the valley of her breasts, giving each one love.
His tongue flicked over her protruding nipples as he looked at her, she gave him an approving nod. He continued, taking one into his mouth and rolling the other between his fingers.
Nora sighed and closed her eyes, Nick finished with her breasts and continued down her body. He kissed her ribs, then her stomach, then he walked on his knees, moving back. He rubbed her thighs, kissing them gently as he rubbed her hips lovingly.
Nora watched him with bright eyes, Nick layed down on his stomach and kissed Nora’s thighs, squeezing them gently. Then he looked up at her, his eyes asking for permission. Nora nodded, giving him her approval. The detective took that invitation.
He kissed her outer lips, the woman shivered afterwards. Nick liked the response and tested what she liked, he spread her with his fingers and licked a strip up her slit. Nora let out a surprised yelp.
Nick smiled and did it again, this time Nora closed her eyes and moaned. Nick sensually licked up her slit, doing it slowly. He latched his lips onto her clit and sucked on it softly. Nora mewled and sighed. Her eyes still closed.
Nick used his mouth as best as he could, Nora had discussed with him, what she had liked, but he never had done it before. He just wanted to please her and make her feel good. Considering her reaction, he figured he was doing it right.
Before Nick could do anymore, Nora pulled him up to her. He obliged and kissed her lips. She ran her hands down his chest. The kisses were passionate.
“Make love to me?” Nora questioned, when she pulled away for a breath, Nick nodded into her, he rested his forehead against hers. She looked into his eyes and he into hers.
He slowly pushed into her slick folds, both of them hissed at the friction. Once Nick was sheathed inside her, he started to thrust slowly. Nora held onto him, moaning into his neck, praising him.
Nick slid into her sensually, enjoying the feeling and making sure his woman was equally pleasured. He leaned down and kissed her lips, telling her how much he loved her. Nora whispered sweet nothings back and expressing her love.
Nick closed his eyes and thrusted softly into Nora, she mewled, loving the feeling of her lover. He held her in his arms as he laid on top of her. She had her arms wrapped around his neck.
Nick sighed into her skin, kissing her and tasting the salt of her sweat. He couldn’t express how much he loved her, there were no words that came even remotely close to how he truly felt in that moment.
-------------------------
The session lasted more than an hour. It was sensual and full of love.
“Can I finish, doll?” Nick whispered into Nora’s ear as he continued to thrust into her, she nodded breathlessly. She was close too and wanted to finish with him.
“Just a bit faster, Nicky.” Nora said, Nick obliged and thrusted faster, both of them cried out when the knots in their stomachs came undone at that exact moment.
They rode out their highs, before relaxing next to each other, Nick pulled Nora into him, kissing her hair. She sighed exhausted into his chest.
“How did I do?” Nick joked with a fond smile as he pet Nora’s bare back with his intact hand.
“You did good.” Nora replied,
“I know this must have been difficult, but I’m proud of you for letting me try.” She explained.
“Actually, it wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be. I trust you; I knew you wouldn’t judge me.” Nick replied. Nora smiled as she reached up and pet his face.
There are those words again, Nick’s fans whirled around wildly. It was his way of blushing.
“I love every part of you, I’m far from disappointed. You’re handsome....You're perfect.” She said with a fondness in her dark eyes.
“Thank you doll, you’re absolutely gorgeous.” He replied, Nora chuckled, he loved giving her compliments too.
“Thank you.” She breathed as she settled into his arms, closing her eyes. Nick kissed the top of her head.
“Sweet dreams, sweetheart.” He told her softly as he continued to hold her in his arms.
Once her breathing was steady, Nick rested his system and did a Dianostic check, his way of sleeping.
Before long, the two of them were asleep comfortable in each other's embrace.

Starfinder Character Concept: Aballonian Noir Detective
Continuing our theme of Pact World character concepts. We’re gonna take an odd sidestep and head to Aballon, the heat-blasted metallic machine world closest to the Sun. Because, and I’m not fully sure why, you’d think Absalom Station would be the first choice for a noir detective, but there’s something about a robot noir detective moving through the dark underbelly of a mechanical utopia. Aballon’s undercities and ice wells, the melting-pot mixed-race areas built in the cooler, more sheltered craters while the machine megacities built over top of them, offer some interesting stalking grounds for a noir detective. Aballon’s Insight Array and universal social support (once you accept your assigned role) is also a bit of an interesting backdrop to criminal motivations and investigations. I don’t know. It called to me. So.
Dusty Brown. A rumpled android detective with a gentle mien who moves through the mean streets and high speed magnetic rails of Aballon’s undercities.
Character Concept: Dusty Brown, Aballonian Noir Detective
Name: Dusty Brown
Age: 87
Starting Statistics:
Strength 10, Dexterity 16, Constitution 11, Intelligence 14, Wisdom 14, Charisma 8
Starting Skills:
Ranks in: Acrobatics*, Bluff*, Computers*, Diplomacy, Engineering*, Perception*, Mysticism, Piloting*, Sleight of Hand*, Stealth*
Specialisation Skills (Skill Focus plus auto rank per level): Culture*, Sense Motive*
Race: Android
We’re gonna be a synth detective, doll. Yes, Nick Valentine is a significant chunk of the starting inspiration for this character. Will Flat Affect and a charisma flaw have an impact on our success with social skills and Sense Motive particularly? Possibly. But we’re an operative, so we’ve got the skill ranks to compensate, and I want an android noir detective.
And not just an android. We’re going to be an Aballonian android. We’re gonna be a rumpled android detective working the mean streets and high-speed magnetic rail systems of the machine world’s undercities. Even in a logical utopia where food and lodging are (usually) guaranteed, people still have passions, and ideologies, and desires, and hatreds. No matter where you go, someone there will wind up dead, or something there will wind up taken. There’s all the work in the world for a private detective, even on a world with vast near-omniscient AI running the show. So one day the self-named Dusty Brown stepped off the mag-rail and hung up her shingle as a PI in Striving’s Lors Emphyria undercity. She wasn’t exactly assigned that role, the Insight Array didn’t offer it as a suggestion, but she wound up getting a stipend anyway, so maybe the machine overlords think she’s doing some good.
I think I’ll swap out the android’s Upgrade Slot for the alternate Nanite Upgrade and take Rebooting Nanites. Dusty’s a hard girl to keep down.
Description:
On the shorter side for an android, Dusty Brown is a stocky woman of about 5ft, with grey eyes and dark brown skin with circuit-seams that glow a dull silvery-grey. She tends to wear dark, sensible clothes over light armour, but does allow the small affectation of a nice long trench coat. A girl’s gotta dress for the role, after all. She tends to favour non-lethal weapons, usually keeping a trusty pulsecaster in its holster under her coat.
Theme: Street Rat
I did look at Paranormal Investigator, just to double down on the detective idea, but Dusty’s not really a paranormal sort of girl. Street Rat, with its urban underworld vibes, is more her style. She didn’t start out with a nice stipend from the Insight Array. She’s made her way without a safety net for a long time. So she knows how things roll down here. She’s a noir detective, not a paranormal one. Mean streets are where she lives.
Class: Operative (Detective)
I mean it had to be. Operative has a whole specialisation ready-made for our concept. And I’m not going to say no to a whole bunch of skills, either.
And we are going to be aiming more in a skill-monkey, explorer, truth-seeker sort of direction, more than combat. Dusty prefers to be non-confrontational, non-lethal. The fact that she has the charisma of a brick (or, well, a robot) doesn’t necessarily help in this regard, but she tries. Her streets might be mean, but she doesn’t want to emulate them. She wants to help piece together what’s gone wrong, so that people can start helping fix it. There’s probably a reason the Insight Array was happy enough with the role she picked for herself. She jumped the gun, but it might well have arrived at a similar conclusion itself.
For that reason, I think I might pick up Scoundrel’s Finesse for her first feat. A noir PI should be able to throw a punch, and she’ll try that well before she graduates to more lethal options. I might also give her a Restraining Spinneret augmentation, give her options to tie people down and try to negotiate where she can. Is she good at negotiating? Not necessarily. But she’s gonna try.
Summary:
Mostly, I just wanted an android noir detective? And then I was noodling around worlds with large android populations, and Aballon caught on things in my brain. Honestly, Aballon would be a fascinating world to run an urban mystery campaign on. I mean, lots of Pact World worlds would be great for that, Verces, Absalom Station, the Sun, but Aballon has an interesting ‘rugged flawed utopia’ sort of angle to it. Machine logic, mining rights, synthetic liberation, organic enclaves, high-speed mag-rail networks (I know I keep mentioning these, but they do a lot for the cyberpunk imagery on Aballon, and that doesn’t hurt the noir vibes at all) … There’s a lot to work with.
So. Dusty Brown. A tired, rumpled, uncharismatic android noir detective who’s just doing her best to help. Heh.

Someone made a real mess of you, didnt they?
“someone made a real mess of you, didnt they?” he cupped her face and looked at her with such empathy
“mr. Valentine…” as she spoke his name, her smudged red lipstick glistened in the pale lights that were cast from the old third rail sign.
her green eyes were glistening, he got lost in the softness of her words, the darkness of her smudged mascara and the imperfections of her black eyeliner made her undeserving of this cruel world that had painted that scar across her gorgeous face.
as she looked at him, as he ran his hand across her cheek there were a million things she wanted to say to him, but nothing seemed to fit and in that moment, as he showed her such delicate compassion she realized she could never want to leave again.
(Can you tell i only read classical literature? Cuz I never feel like I can write anything remotely modern)

Wouldn’t it be wild if Nick turned out to be A Mysterious Stranger? Now hear me out. I know it sounds ridiculous. This is why I said ‘A’ Mysterious Stranger and not ‘The’ Mysterious Stranger. “But Tru, how could Nick be A Mysterious Stranger when he looks so much like a robot?” I hear you say. But it’s simple my dears. Remember that Curie was a Nanny bot that transferred her consciousness into a synth body. Now you could argue, where would Nick find another brain dead synth like Curie did. And to that I say, “I have no idea. But I got you thinking didn’t I?”
