“I have something for you.”
“Oh, is this… Poppy flower?”
“Yes… I thought you like poppies? Do you not like it?”
“Oh I do! The flowers are nice, I really like it. It's just…” He sigh. “It just remind me of something.”
“Sorry….”
“It's fine, you didn't know. It's in the past anyway,” He assures, slipping the delicate flower between his ear. “I've grown to like it back.”
The person smiles, jagged teeth distorting his scarred face. “I see, I'm glad.”

I feel like there is so much missed potential in this fandom when it comes to Jimmy's part in EVO.
Like yeah, Grian constantly pissed off the watchers by being too greedy and taking more than he should, and we all know it was Grian who was taken by the watchers after the ender dragon fight and made into one of them.
And we know that in the Life series, Martyn's character is spoken to and told to do various things for the Watchers and saved by the Listeners.
And Jimmy has some kind of Canary Curse that causes him to die first every time.
But, there is a lot more to this that people don't use simply because they haven't seen Jimmy's Evo series.
Most of my headcanon ideas are after my little recap of all the listener moments from Evo and you can skip to that, but if you have never seen Evo or never watched past Grian's POV it is pretty interesting and I think I summed it up pretty well.
----start of very long Evo Recap----
Back in Evo, the Watchers never really liked Jimmy or at points Martyn. This is seen when they get gifts from them representing the Watchers' opinions. Jimmy gets one of the worst ones (a chest with some gold and saplings, likely meaning 'room for growth') matched only by Grian's (a chest of coal with one diamond meaning 'diamond in the rough').
Martyn is shown to be disliked when later on he declares himself mayor due to Taurtis having left, his and Jimmy's Property Police station gets a meteor sent through it by the watchers.
In Jimmy's episode 75 he and Martyn follow a strange noise underneath their destroyed station. They find the listener symbol in bedrock and signs reading 'There are some who watch, we are those who listen. Heed our melody, and await your first mission. Tell nobody." This is the first time we hear about the Listeners and we don't see anything about them again until Jimmy's episode 98.
They had just defeated the ender dragon and had been told the news that "10 will become 9" and that they were taking Grian. In the end credits when they were told this, multiple members were mentioned by name for various things they had done, all except Jimmy.
In Jimmy's episode he spawns in alone. The spawn is destroyed and grown over and in front of him is the Listeners symbol. He finds a book in a chest simply titled "your mission" and 9 enderchests.
The book reads: "there are some who watch, we are those who listen. It is finally time for your first mission. Dragged forwards through time, your spawn old and rotten. Even in the end credits, your name was forgotten. Cruel are the Watchers who think they know best. For us please deliver each player a chest. SHhhh...."
He goes on to do as they ask,  one ender chest in each player's base. He is never told what these chests are for. Later the rest of Evo spawns in thousands of blocks away at the new spawn, they make their way back and find the Listener's symbol Jimmy had found is now a Watchers symbol.
The books titled "the future" read: "Our meeting was short and your victory grand, now 10 become 9 and you must leave this land. Our reasons are just, though you won't understand. Your actions have caused this, accidental or planned. Tread now to your homes, carry only what you can. Anymore will be drowned on and the sentence, a ban. We The Watchers Have Spoken."
They find the chests Jimmy had left them and inside is a note from the Listeners labeled "Greetings": "There are some who watch, we are those who listen, and we do not agree with their most recent decisions. 'Carry only what you can', what you deem best, We grant you more space by making use of this chest. SHHhhh....."
Later Jimmy finds signs from Martyn telling him what's going on and where to go. Jimmy shows caution and distrust towards the Watchers but follows all the same.
They set up everything at the new spawn, but in Jimmy's episode 112, he noticed an odd musical ticking sound beneath spawn. He goes around to everyone's base to leave them a sign asking what it is to make sure they know about it. They all gather at spawn and find that it was the Listeners who did it.
Under spawn they find a book titled "Freedom" by the Listeners. It reads: "There are some who watch, we are those who listen, if you flee you'll be free and complete your recission. Single versions are slow, new adventures in store, come with us and we'll give you lots more to explore. Make haste through this maze as a portal awaits, make the choice quick and take control of your fates. SHHhhh...."
They make their way through the maze and eventually find the last portal. They all get ready to make the jump for the last time, and go through the portal. For most this is the end of Evo (Jimmy, Pearl, and Netty do Christmas specials but those are only 2 episodes) meaning that this portal was really some kind of escape.
----end of very long Evo Recap----
This means that not only had the Watchers always had a dislike for Jimmy, but the Listener always had an interest in him and Martyn.
There is also the fact that Jimmy was the one the Listeners chose to deliver the enderchests. Bringing him to the original spawn under the Watcher's nose for this task, giving out something that will later help get around the Watcher's decision. And the fact that he was the one to first notice the strange sound at spawn and then go and warn the others? or at least inform them of this allowing them all to eventually find their escape?
It seems to me like Jimmy had long ago gotten a target painted on his back by the Watchers. With everything from
 1) going against them
2) working for the listeners
3) influencing others to go with him
4) they just generally didn't even like him beforehand.
By the time everyone escaped Evo it's a fair assumption that Jimmy is probably at the top of their list of problems.
So, when they make a new experiment with the death games and they have him there? Well, they can't have him staying around long enough to start figuring things out and influencing people, now can they.
And speaking of warning others, he seemed to be so intent on warning the other Evolutionists against the Watchers. What would be a better punishment for going against them, for being one of the main catalyst in it all, then to be cursed to always be the warning. Cursed to always be the first to die, always gone before something big goes down, the Canary in the coalmine.  But no matter what his death warns of, there is no escape this time. The coalmine's entrance is sealed and no matter how long you last, soon everything inside will suffocate.
And maybe this feeds into Secret life where he mentions how the Secret keepers symbol looks familiar, or how he decides to team up with Martyn just like in Evo.
Maybe him surviving a little longer in the games and coming back after death as a guardian angel is a testament to how the listeners are stronger in this season. An apology/gift to their first chosen for everything their actions had put him through.
But that's probably just me making far fetched connections and reading too far into things. Could be cool though.

MCYT UNDERDOG EVENT RULES, TIMELINE, FAQ, AND ELIGIBILITY
Rules:
1. Fics cannot break the AO3 or Tumblr TOS
2. You can only write for people who are not in the top percent of fics in their fandom (check below for eligibility). Non eligible characters may be in the fic, but only as a side characters and cannot have too much of a main focus
3. No NSFW. Suggestive stuff is fine, but the fic cannot be explicit.
4. That's it! Have fun!
Timeframe
Event start: Now! As soon as this is posted!
Collection opens: Collection name is MCYTUnderdogEvent2024
Event ends: May 31 at 10pm cst, with the close of the collection
FAQ
How will eligibility be determined?
It will be determined by the amount of fics the character is tagged in for the fandom in question. Then, the characters with the most fics for them (about top ten for larger fandoms, will change depending on the fandom/smp size) will be excluded
What about characters who are in a lot of fics but not the main character?
Sadly, they will still be excluded if they are in the top percent, as there is no way to consistently tell main characters without searching through fics, which would take too long.
What about non player characters, like NPCs?
They are considered characters for this! Some are even popular enough that they aren't eligible! So if you want to write about an NPC who is eligible, go for it!
Do fics need to be a certain length?
Nope! Can be a drabble, a one shot, a multi chapter, or a small poem! All it has to be is about one or more of the eligible characters.
Do fics have to be finished to add them to the collection?
They do not have to be! It can be a fic that you plan to work on even after the event ends, or just an idea you want to get out there
Eligibility
To avoid having to write too many names (as the eligible characters outnumber the non eligible characters) the characters listed below for each fandom are the non eligible characters. Your fic cannot focus on any of these characters. If the fandom you want to write for is not listed below, then all characters in that fandom are eligible! List below as to not make this post too long.

I'm not sure if this has been asked, but what do the other hermits or members from empires think of grian being a watcher in your AU? i know martyn doesn't get on with him, but what are the others' view of it?
I don't know how every one would react, theres only a select few who know, but... !
Xisuma, because he was the first one to find Grian after he crashed into Hermitcraft. Xisuma already knows what Watchers are, so he took pity on Grian's reaction and took him in. He wasn't initially going to let him join HC since he was a stranger, (and a Watcher,) he was just going to help him back on his feet (wings?) and then send him on his way, but well things changed. Grian only told him whats relevant, so Xisuma doesn't know the whole story. Xisuma also comes from the End, he thinks the Watchers are inevitable and also none of his business as long as they don't mess with anything. Xisuma keeps tabs on Grian. Grian feels like he owes Xisuma the world.
Mumbo knows the full story, every little bit of it, Grian literally poured his soul out to him. Mumbo is the first friend he makes there, and Grian's still reeling from the whole experience so he built up a lot of trust in Mumbo and ends up spilling everything to him on a particularly bad day. Mumbo doesn't know what Watchers are, so he doesn't care that Grian was (is?) a Watcher, he just wants his friend safe, and doesn't think of him any differently. Mumbo sits right next to Grian with an arm over his shoulder, and fidgets with one of Grian's hands while he listens to him. Its sad at first, but towards the end of the rants Grian lightens up, a huge weight off his shoulders, and now they're both facing each other and gossiping abt their families. (Grian wins any family gossip bc his watcher aunt tried to throw him off a cliff)
Martyn and Jimmy, both were friends from Evo, and both feel betrayed by Grian leaving, and him being the direct reason their server is shut down. Martyn, while angry, and while he'd still fight him, he does want Grian out of there. Jimmy is more sad than angry, and tells himself he doesn't care, but he does, a lot. They both work with the Listeners, so Grian is a bit more villainized from their point of view.
Pearl also doesn't get the full story, she knows somewhat, and Grian has talked to her a bit about it, thats his sister ! But he can't tell her he left everyone on purpose, or how he was treated by Watchers, theres still a lot of guilt and shame. She doesn't force him to tell her everything, they're still siblings and repairing that relationship after being apart for so long.
Scar... Grian avoids Scar for awhile, after 3rd life he feels scared to face him in Hermitcraft. Though, to his shock, Scar can barely remember him, or the life games, its blurry, but theres a vague sense there, a memory or two, he recognizes Grian as much as you would a stranger you've seen twice in one week. Once they get closer though Grian tells him a bit, mostly abt the life game, and that his family runs it, but he didn't have anything to do with that. He also apologizes a lot. Scar just thinks Grian has a weird family, he doesn't know or understand what Watchers are, he mostly shrugs this off. Scar has a very "That was then, this is now" attitude, he wants to know This current Grian.
Thats everyone relevant that knows abt him, though I think there are a few Hermits that think theres Something up with Grian, but can't place it. Cleo, Etho, and Iskall, come to mind, theres something abt how Grian's eye catches the light...
(Theres also Taurtis.. The one that disappeared in Evo, one of the leading reasons Grian puts up with so much. I don't have much in writing abt Taurtis showing up again, but.. I do imagine his reaction to Grian would be very negative, maybe ? Angry and freaked out by him, I think Grian would collapse to his knees after seeing his reaction. BUT thats not really canon, thats just a thought I think is kinda fun.)

Taurtis!
Taurtis, grinning: Before you were what?
Grian: Before I was-
Taurtis: What?
Grian: Before I was inter-
Taurtis: Before you were interrupted?
Grian: Cut me off one more time and I swear I'll-
Taurtis: What?
Grian: *makes frustrated sound*
Doc, nervously: Stop that. Before he hurts you.
Hallo! Good day!
Parrot G! + Watcher G
~~~
Look. Hermitcraft was having an ‘open day’ so the hermit's friends and family could come look around the server before the season ended. And Pearl, being the genius she is. Decided to invite Taurtis. (It couldn’t be that bad right?)
The rest of the hermits were excited to meet the boy Grian spoke so highly of. Of course the.. Watcher status worried them a bit, but Grian was also a watcher! And he is fine. Mostly.
Anyway! It had been great, for the first half of the day. Grian had shown Taurtis around happily, the two glad to talk with each other. But now..? They had gone past the ‘Omg I haven't seen you in ages, how are you?’ stage. And we're now in the ‘You're my boyfriend, I'm going to annoy the hell out of you.’
Grian had simply been talking to Pearl, Xisuma and Doc when Taurtis interrupted him.
“Before you were what?” Taurtis hummed, arms wrapped over the shorter man's shoulders.
“Before I was-” Grian used his wings to shove Taurtis off his back, causing Doc to chuckle.
“What?” He interrupted again.
“Before I was inter-”
“Before you were interrupted?”
Grian took a breath. “Cut me off one more time and I swear i’ll-”
“What?”
Grian’s wings twitched as he turned his head to look at Taurtis, who was smiling smugly despite the mass amount of eyes appearing over Grian’s body. Doc, Xisuma and Pearl had all backed up slightly, “Stop that Taurtis- Before he hurts you.”
It was too late. Grian screeched and jumped at Taurtis, sending the two tumbling.
Right so solargeist's really fleshed out watcher headcannons/ au got me thinking
and an idea that's been floating in my head for a while now is 'Grian was always a watcher'. Honestly it was probably originally inspired by the "He was only ever meant to watch", obviously it's about Grian being a watcher as of the end of Evo but also "only ever" made me think.
So we know the watchers thrive off of entertainment and bad emotions, and probably also chaos (aka Grian incarnate). So in my headcanon they 'recruit' young players to go onto servers and worlds and inspire chaos or entertainment that would please the watchers to, well, watch. These recruits would be taught skills/ powers like shapeshifting and other typical fanon watcher abilities to help them stay under the radar on the servers they go to.
So what if Grian was one of these recruits and was sent to worlds like yhs and any other worlds he was on before Evo to create entertainment for the watchers. He enjoys the chaos, likes having the friends and storylines he makes on these servers, and definitely likes the powers that come with the job. Soon Grian's one of their best recruits and possibly one of their most powerful, mastering shapeshifting almost immediately.
And Evo is the big one. Grian is properly undercover, pretending to not know who the watchers are and adding more people to the server (Taurtis and Pearl who both joined late) for them to feed off of. It's also Grian's world, which adds a lot of responsibility but also alot of power. The watchers originally just watched and kept an eye on Grian but started meddling when they realised "Hey, the admin isn't going to stop us or look into it, we're his boss!" and when they realised the entertainment that would come with players dealing with god-like beings they don't quite understand.
Grian's all up for this, he of course knows what the watchers are. And while he's a bit miffed whenever they punish him for something (see putting obsidian on his chests and making a clay statue he isn't allowed to mine), He plays along and enjoys being able to do his own thing on a world for the most part.
Then Grian joins Hermitcraft. Maybe the watchers sent him there too, or maybe it was him trying to get away from the responsibilities of his job. Either way, Grian being on two servers at once means the chaos is more spread out and less noticeable, so the watchers recall him, pretending to the other evolutioners that they are making G one of them (end dragon fight on evo). Evo sort of fizzles out and the watchers become bored of it. Most people escape to other worlds or servers, Martyn gets plucked out by the listeners, and the world is forgotten and overgrows again.
Grian continues to make chaos on Hermitcraft. Again, either the watchers telling him to, old habits dying hard, or just because he wants to.
Anyways, from then it's basically what you actually see happens, plus Martyn's lore, and anything that makes more entertainment or chaos is either the watchers or Grian. Grian if it seems harmless just fun and interesting, ans the watchers if it seems a bit more extreme (boogeyman and red bloodlust) or is obviously watcher-y (secret keeper)
I might flesh this out further, but yeah this is basically what I've been thinking about for the past few days
SO WRITER'S BLOCK MURDERED ME AND I'M SICK AND MISERABLE SO HERE IS A SNIPPET I SWEAR I'LL GET CHAPTER SEVEN OUT SOON I PROMISE DON'T HURT ME 😭😭
tw: suicide
"He's been messed up ever since the accident," Taurtis said in a low voice. Ellen shot him a look, but didn't argue.
"Accident?" Etho questioned, eyebrows raising. "You mean there's something else involved that no one bothered to tell us about?"
"I didn't even know anything was happening until just now," Martyn muttered bitterly from the couch.
Ellen sighed and leaned back. "At the end of our senior year, Sam's girlfriend killed herself. Jumped off a building, in front of everyone."
"Including Sam," Taurtis murmured.
I planted my palms flat on the table, trying to get my thoughts in order. What did that have to do with anything? Was it a motive? Or was it...
"Ellen," I said sharply, turning to her. "What was it you said about sculk?"
She blinked, looking startled. "That it makes someone violent?"
"No, the other thing. About souls."
"Oh, right." She shook her head. "It grows where people have died - multiple people."
I whirled to Taurtis. "You said there were several suicides at your high school, right?"
His eyes widened, coming to the same conclusion I had.
"What is happening right now?" Ren asked, confused.
"I know where Sam is keeping Jimmy and Grian," I said quietly.
Gem made an exasperated noise. "Stop being so cryptic, for God's sake. Where?"
I met Ellen's gaze. "The high school in Tokyo."
the taurtis tag is SO empty. I am here to FIX THAT.
————
There is something following Grian.
Everyone’s caught glimpses of it - earlier seasons, it was a rare sight. Whatever it was, it was barely formed, cradling a broken soul waiting to mend.
but as time went on, as seasons passed, it grew stronger. more visible.
there’s blue. there’s headphones. black hair, if you squint.
protective isn’t necessarily the right word. simply…tied. whatever the being is, it’s tied with grian, and probably will be for a long while. sure, maybe it’s protective of it’s other half, but it’s…
…well, when it’s anything to do with grian, pranks are a must. it’s mischievous and silly, to put it lightly. half of them wonder if it’s secretly ‘ghost-writing’ half the stuff grian does.
no one has the heart to tell grian. he always gets this wide eyed stare whenever something like this is brought up - they don’t want to hurt him.
pearl, however, has no such qualms.
————
you pick the ending!
They've spent a long time watching to determine if this spirit is aggressive, or has negative intent. Yet, despite some of their best efforts to find something wrong, the spirit seems passive. No more mischievous than Grian himself.
The ghost seems aware they can see it. It disappears when they go on dates (though, sometimes, they can spot it hovering in the distance, watching them closely.) If there's a few of them in one place then nobody can see it.
The whole thing is creepy, and Grian's reaction is enough to scare them off. And Pearl respects that. But she's known Grian for a long time. That man could bottle up a hurricane if it meant he didn't have to acknowledge a single bad thing that happened to him.
So she rolls her sleeves up and does what she does best. Traps him through societal politeness until he explains just what is haunting him. She doesn't even care about the tragic backstory or anything, she just wants some basic context.
It turns out Grian... Had an idea. But he didn't want to let himself believe it. The ghost is Taurtis and Grian describes him as an 'almost'. And then he died. Obviously, he's still sticking around to make sure Grian isn't (or is) getting into trouble.
Pearl can respect that. And by the way, Grian, try and make peace with your past for a change, jeez. Not everybody gets a second chance like this.
A lot of people headcannon that Jimmy got cursed to die first when he first died in the Life series- But now I’m watching Jimmothy’s Evo series and in the Halloween, special the group is playing games, one of the games involving a death game. Jimmy dies first, which he beforehand in the same video was muttering how he doesn’t want to be eliminated first. That of course instantly clicked into my mind about “Canary dies first”.
If you pay attention to the Evo series, you know that, for some reason, Watchers didn’t like Jimmy from the start. Even Grian (the troublemaker that makes the Watcher’s life hard) who in one of the episodes got a chest full of coal with one diamond in the middle got something valuable, whereas Jimmy got a sapling. (I believe Taurtis or someone else - unsure - commented on how Grian is a diamond in the rough). But Jimmy? He wasn’t liked from the start to the end.
So I think that Jimmothy, our Canary boy, got cursed way before the Life series, that it all started way back in Evo.
I might make a bigger post at some point after I finish watching Evo smp to make a bigger post about the Watchers thing, Grian, Mahtyn and the watchers dislike to Tim, but we shall see.
So.. Like. Song for an insane!Grian or evil-watcher!grian au..?
Just-
‘Insane’ by Black Gryph0n and Baasik. (It’s a Hazbin Hotel song)
Like, the start is pretty much Scar introducing the evil boi.
‘Dearly beloved for your entertainment, it’s my pleasure to hell’s Hermitcraft’s latest arrival ’
The start could be Grian’s intro to Hermitcraft S6, although he is instead tricking the Hermits into thinking he’s innocent and lost. (Totally not a Watcher or heavily unstable individual)
‘Hello it’s nice to meet you! Can you tell me where I am?’
‘I don’t know how I got here. But I think I’m starting to understand’
‘I don’t belong among the angels. And baby that’s fine with me’ - Watchers?? He broke away or is trying to convince the hermits that he’s good? Or he’s accepting that he has twisted morals in terms of just simply being insane?
He could be explaining things to Scar, especially if they’re in league. With Scar being the one introducing him, and the one he gets linked to in Double life.
‘The thing I did up there were highschool’ YHS/TS - Casually being a murderer whilst a teenager. He almost definitely would have gone insane after that kind of childhood.
Saying that people just got in his way. (Maybe Evo and the Watchers?)
‘I promise honey I can feel your pain’ - Double life Desert Duo. Do I need to say more?
‘Haven’t been the same since I expired’ - End of TS (endless void) or EVO (casual kidnapping) or even just the end of Third Life when he was the last one standing.
All of these could have easily driven C!Grian to insanity/hunger for power.
‘And now I have the power to bathe all of you in entertaining fire’ - He controls and enjoys the life games in this AU. He uses his Watcher powers to be entertained by the suffering of the other players.
Him talking about recognising someone as a previous old pal - could be so many different people. Sam? Taurtis? Mumbo? Scar? The EVO gang? All of them??
‘Tell me do you demons players bleed?’ - AU Grian is obsessed over the Life games and all his other death inspired or causing games. (TAG, Demise, etc)
AAAAAA?!?
I hate the way the Fandom babies Taurtis and Grian and demonizes Sam.
Sam shows clear hints of psychosis and is a mentally unstable weird kid. Yuki used that to her advantage when getting over Taurtis. I feel like everyone overlooks that, C!Sam was just a mentally unwell kid who got manipulated and make him out to be this demon when in reality he was more like "I love my friend Taurtis and I can't live in a world without him" followed by Yuki "who said he was gone?"
And Grian isn't a helpless baby! He was afraid of Sam during the week of where he was 'Taurtis', but he wasn't shaking in his boots, trembling in fear afterward! If anything, he seemed more angry. He could have left. When he got a gun, he could have shot Sam. He could have left him for the Yakuza, but he didn't. He even defended Sam occasionally. They were still childhood friends! At the end of the series, the end of the world, it was just them. They had time to learn and heal
And Taurtis isn't a helpless baby either! He was the popular kid! He had friends and a girlfriend, and almost everyone liked him! Plus, episode one literally implies he's a murderer if you overlook when he was ACTUALLY a murderer. Not to mention, Taurtis seems to have lived with Sam his whole life. He was desensitized to the psychotic behavior. I believe it's also why he FORGAVE Sam. Sam probably would have cried and commit a Yuki if Taurtis didn't forgive him.
Basically, Taurtis and Grian aren't helpless depressed kids. They're traumatized kids for sure, and Grian was definitely depressed, but not to the extent people stretched them. Sam isn't the big bad mean guy. He was their childhood friend with psychosis, manipulated to do terrible things.
This is my third time trying to explain my theory about Grian being a Watcher even before Evo so please someone stay with me.
We are all familiar with the «He was never meant to be there, he was only meant to watch» phrase (that didn't change my brain chemistry at all) right? Now, someone has always being... Odd about it, maybe the fact that is was the answer of «Why are you so sent on Grian?» that Martyn said. Everyone just kinda agree that it was refered to the life series, but what if the answer is that Grian wasn't supposed to be there even before? In Evo.
Because Evo Grian marks almost all the things of a watcher since... Day one? First, well, he was the admin so he had the power around the server, he was supposed to keep track of changing the versions (so he must have had a little bit of knowledge that the Watchers weren't that dangerous to let them participate in the changes of versions).
Second of all, he was very isolated from the rest of the members since the beginning, he was the one that lived further away from everybody else in a version where you couldn't run, there wasn't minecarts or horses or a way to get there quickly.
Third, he wanted to have access to everything. With the station to go from spawn to his base and the secret tunnels under it that were supposed to connect with everybody base (he abandoned the project pretty quickly but that isn't the point tho).
He has always been a prankster, but he hasn't never been the one that does the easy pranks, no, Grian send BigB to a journey with riddles and rhymes only to getting back to his base to activate a tnt trap. He make a treasure hunt with no treasure at the end (well technically it was but if you picked it, it would activate a trap). He trap his secret tunnels when they were compromised and told people to send comments to the other people on the smp tricking them to go see (poor Jimmy). And that isn't counting his multiple 'just tnt it' pranks. Also, he liked messing with people when they were streaming, when he could watch them.
He also didn't wanted to obey the Watchers, twisting their rules and breaking them, didn't the listeners say something about the Watchers thinking they are above everyone else? That they don't have to give explanations?
And one of the things that just scream Watcher behavior it's how he made a entire escape room for Taurtis to complete, with everything you could think, riddles, mind tests, rooms with puzzles... Just because he could and he wanted, just for his enjoyment.
If that isn't a Watcher thing at this point I don't know what it is! And it could explain in the Evo lore why he was so calm to go with the Watchers after defeating the dragon, he was even excited to have the opportunity to watch what all his friend were gonna do even if he wasn't there anymore.
So yeah, part of my theory says that he is a Watcher from the beginning, if he knew or not that's a different history. The important part is that:
He stayed. He is there.
Grian is a player (or at least pretending to be one) like the others, he participates like everyone else, the rules apply to him too. He wants the rules to apply to him he wants to be like everybody, even if that means pain, break promises, break friendships, even if it means that he is only surviving.
But his constant effort to connect, to stay present is not something that beggings in life series, as you might have noticed, it started in Evo. His nature competing with what he really wanted for the control.
Using the same examples to his Watcher behavior:
He isolate himself to almost inmediatly trying to find a way for people to visit. And when he finished most part of his base structure he abandoned it, he say something like "I want to be more close to spawn, I feel like I have no idea to what is happening there" and went there to build Evo town.
Most of the time he gave people something in return after a prank/situation that he feel unfair, when the property police blew up on accident he build a new one, and he always apologiezed.
After the Watchers punished him once he didn't break the rules and he warned Taurtis about not doing it. Even when he always found ways to twisted or steal from them.
In the game that he made Taurtis play it was a prize at the end: A cake, dumb, but a prize that seem fair and that he knew Taurtis was gonna like, and he didn't lie.
So maybe when They took him back he was excited at first, new things, to see, to learn, to explote. Maybe things he forgot completely.
But then there was the rules, watch but not participate, watch and create but never involve yourself with the players. Maybe They had the hope that teaching him again there ways was gonna make him stay, but we know Grian, he gets bored quickly.
So he escaped and now we are in the life series. I'm not gonna extend to much here, I reblog someone else talking about how Grian is making an effort to stay there instead of going back and the implications that it has about The Watchers moving everything just to make him miserable.
But why? Why they want him back? Why is he so important to them that he can't be replaced or forgotten to live like a player?
And here I add the popular theory/headcanon of Grian being the first player to become a Watcher. Because that makes him important to them, it makes him a success, something to study, to see how far he can go.
But he isn't cooperating with them, the worst of their character: Watchers always want to do things their way.
In conclusion: Grian as always been a Watcher and the Evo SMP proves it. How this impacts everything else? I don't know!
Thank you for reading, this is my third time writing this because i don't know where the drafts are (if you haven't notice I'm quite new to this Tumblr thing) and i lost two of my rants there.
