The first scene of Law in Wano is so funny because he’s just chilling out for once in his goddamn life just waiting around for the strawhats and when Bepo tells him Luffy made it he’s like “oh finally glad he made it, what’s the problem?”

Then he finds out the idiot he decided to ally himself with is there not even 24 hours and is already breaking into an official’s base to save some kid he just met with his equally idiotic first mate whose face is on every wanted poster effectively derailing his meticulously crafted plans.

You know I was thinking, how will Luffy about turning 20 and 21? Because when he turns 20, he wont be younger than Ace anymore, and when he turns 21, he'll officially be older than he ever was. Similarly, how will Law feel about turning 27 and becoming older than how Corasan ever was? It's something that was in the back of my mind. I knew some people who lost certain loved ones who were older than them, and when they got older than them... it just felt wierd, that's how they describe it. Bittersweet some have told me.

I would yell at you and be angry at how sad this thought makes me, but on the other hand, I just love angst a very insane amount, so this is exactly the type of thing I absolutely love.

I think that Luffy doesn't focus much on age. He focuses on birthdays, of course, I think he'd love birthdays (both for the food and the meaning behind it. I personally think he loves throwing big birthday parties for the crew members because he likes celebrating that they're alive and growing together. Especially when it comes to Robin, Sanji and Brook tbh). But I think he'd feel uneasy when somebody makes a comment about how old and tall he's getting. Like, Sabo would make an innocent comment like "You're growing up so fast, Luf!" and Jinbe (for example) would compare him to Ace the way everyone does, with a proud smile and saying "You look so much like your brother, captain! Might even get taller than him!". And Luffy laughs at that because he's supposedly over Ace's death. He should be. But after a long while thinking about it in the middle of the party, I think he'd start wondering about growing up and the fact that he's getting older than Ace. That Ace will never experience growing up with them. That Luffy never got to spend his last years together because they were apart living their own adventures. And, you know, the fact that he's already accepted his death doesn't mean it doesn't hurt to feel older than your older brother. I think Sabo would notice right away that something's wrong and ask what's going on. And Luffy would just say something like "Ace was twenty when I let him die" (he still has to fix the wording. It's a work in progress) and Sabo understands because now Sabo can't argue against Ace about who's the oldest. Now Sabo is the oldest. And Sabo would try to make things better by placing his arm around Luffy's shoulder and saying: "Well, if it makes you feel any better, just think about his face if he knew you might get older than him! He'd get soo pissed about it! [...] And he'd be so proud of you for growing up, Luf. He'd be so happy, with that big smirk of his and the dumb tilt of head, y'know?". And Sabo just has the right words to make Luffy feel better about growing taller and older than Ace, because he knows that if he's looking after him somewhere, he's smiling wide.

I think the Law thing is harder than this. Because for Law, growing up older than his own father makes him feel guilty. Survivor guilt complex type of shit, you know? He got out of there alive but Cora-san didn't and... And it's just fucked up and unfair and Law just fucking hates this specific birthday. Normally, he doesn't care much about growing up and his birthday, but he ends up having fun because it's just impossible not to do so when Shachi, Penguin, and Bepo always want to throw a party for him. But this time, when he realizes he's getting older than Cora, it hits him. Like a fucking truck. Because he doesn't feel mature enough. He doesn't feel like he has done enough stuff for Cora to be proud (which is stupid because Cora would be proud of him but, y'know, Law's thoughts). He doesn't feel like he deserves to grow up older than his own father. It'd be a hard thing to swallow, honestly. I think he wouldn't stop repeating the words "I love you" in his head, mixed with "Don't try to find a reason for somebody's love" over and over again, trying to make everything better. Because he knows he's acting stupid. But he just can't get over the fact that Cora was this young when he acted like a whole father to him. Law doesn't feel half as mature. But then Bepo (because he's just like that. Caring, loving, Bepo) says something about being glad Law is alive and with them, and it just shatters Law completely. I think Bepo would stay with him for a while in his room until Law just stands up and says something (very softly and trying to keep the waters calm, bc he knows how Bepo is) about throwing a little party. And I think that comment would make him feel a bit better, because Cora fought for him to be alive. He shouldn't waste the gift Cora gave him.

Okay so Hancock x Sora. They are saved and brought to lesbian island. Sora has gotta be teasing Boa like Mihawk does but she makes good on her promises and absolutely flusters Boa. If Boa is still swooning for Luffy, Sora HAS to be looking at her wife with the most unimpressed look. When Boa comes back and whines to her wife their kid is dating Luffy and Sora has to remind her that age gaps can be weird and the way she was doing it was making it weird. Boa looks at her with confusion and Sora explains that Boa flirted with her first. They are absolutely those lesbians that uhaul'd and then got married, and grew old together, they are THE dykes of the pirating world. They have to have the best sex life too tbh.

Makino x Sora. Could you also imagine if this when Shanks is there? Like Luffy and Makino find this Sanji stealing food and then finds Sora after the second or third time. Shanks somehow hasn't lost his arm yet but absolutely plays THE WORST wingman to those women. Sora is somehow the biggest help to Luffy after he eats the devil fruit and then Shanks loses his arm and leaves. Makino and Sora are doing their best to mother these kids but then Luffy disappears and comes back with more??? In the interim the women have gotten together. Sabo knows the queen of Germa when he sees her because he's been to several Reveries but Sora tells him it's a secret or they will all die. She's not even joking and then pats Sabo on the head. When ASL see her kiss Makino for the first time they ask Sanji about it and he's like 'idk, she's better than my dad' which Ace says Makino is better than his dad too.

Sora x Corazon. This man and his lead poisoned son find Sora and Sanji, her sick and dying as well and Sanji starved and matted. Fuck it, they could all band together and survive. Right? Right. They're traveling and Law is getting sicker and Sora is plateaued in her illness so that's probably a good thing. Cora is carrying both of them as Sanji follows as fast as his little legs will carry him. They bond over the kids and the kids bond over death. Listen, their fucked up, all of them. They save Law and Corazon from Doflamingo and death. Sora manages to stop the bleeding and asks where the boys are. So when he is propped and set to live and hidden somewhere she goes and finds the boys. They settle on an island until the boys set off, even if they don't think Sanji is quite old enough to be a pirate. It's fine, Law keeps Sanji on ship duties only until he's like fifteen and now he's Law's left hand. Cora and Sora(fuck i love that) display their sons proudly and the kids hang new photos their parents send them regularly. Cora is usually holding his much smaller wife with a cigarette in his mouth while on fire and Sora smiling widely while dumping water on her husband's flaming coat.

Yandere Zoro, Sanji, Kid and Law finding out their darling wants to have kids with them (whatever the kids are adopted or not is up to you)

I think out of all of them, only two would be very reluctant to have biological kids (irregardless of your capability to carry tbh).

Sanji and Law. Sanji because of all the biological engineering his family is known for. Sure, Judge lost interest in him, but there's no guarantee a grandkid would be any safer from the Vinsmokes. Law due to the health issues his whole family had after generations of Amber Lead exposure, which for all he knows has more insidious genetic disorders even after being purged from the poison.

I was thinking about Dracula Daily, as one does, and Star Wars, as I am wont to do, and couldn't make the plot work unless the Lucy character is Obi-Wan. Nobody else has enough Solid Love Interests.

I'd have to go for crack ships or minor characters for anyone else, and I don't want to have, say, Lucy!Padme, because that would mean promoting Clovis to main cast, and nobody wants that.

I'd go with Bail, Quinlan, Satine? First instinct is Lord Bail, Doctor Quin, Foreigner Satine. (We shall dispense of Gender and heteronormativity.)

Even works out with who dies just before the end.

@atagotiak pointed out that Quincey is shooty as heck, though, so that doesn't work well for Satine. Unfortunately, the only 'willing to shoot first' one in this set is Quinlan, which would mean either Satine or Bail as an ethically ??? doctor, and neither of them work well. I could toss in Cody as Quincey and keep Quinlan as Seward, but then we lose either Bail or Satine, and I want it to be Bail&Satine&Quinlan

Could always mix up some traits (e.g. Satine could be the doctor, but more ethical than canon Seward, or she could be Quincey but less gun-happy), but I'm not sure tbh.

elle was a fascinating character and if she had stayed longer the run of criminal minds would have been so much richer change my mind.

also it’s insane that the way she exits the show compliments her arc in a way that no other cast member leaving did even if it ends up ending the storyline completely. like from the very start her impatience and history as a sexual offences agent is established, and then putting the unsub of 2x05 in the context of her trauma being a violating experience has cataclysmic implications. it completely accounts for her actions. especially following gideon’s advice - ‘i want you to think about this job, what you’ve been through, and what you’re capable of’ and the trigger of lee’s words ‘you’ve made a lot of women very happy’. props to glaudini’s acting here because you can see elle’s faith in her own morals die right when he says that. ‘what you’re capable of’ is tied to ‘what you’ve been through’; she’s capable of revenge because she’s been through it. this becomes a justification for murder rather than an encouragement to abide by the ideals of law enforcement that she feels have failed her and others.

she’s impatient and loud and devastated by the cases she’s worked on and then forced to live through the same thing via being shot.

i think something interesting that wasn’t necessarily intentional (though there��s a good chance it was) as well that i’ve kind of alluded too was the way that that experience of being violated for elle (by the fisher king putting his hand in her gunshot wound) was sexual in nature even if that wasn’t randall garner’s goal. it underlines the theme of elle’s - and the rest of the team’s - vulnerability existing in complete contrast to the confines of her profession, especially considering the her role before in convicting those charges with sexual offences.

obviously lola glaudini leaving was a personal choice so it wasn’t like elle was written out as a creative additive - but tbh if they had lengthened this plotline so we got to see more of elle and had this ending it would have an incredibly interesting period in the show.

and just to add, her leaving at this point in the series also could have had a much more monumental impact on the plot if mandy patinkin hadn’t decided to quit also, as gideon’s desire for peace competes with elle’s (somewhat ironic) craving for justice, but alas, it was not meant to be.

Oh boy DO I!!!!! I’m gonna organize them in lil bullet point forms cause I have so many thoughts abt them!

Jena:

- Honestly I think it might be a bit weird to say but I think she was the westerosi equivalent of a goth skater girl. Like, there’s probably some old painting of her in Blackhaven as a teenager where she has dyed black streaks in her hair and way too much eyeshadow with a medieval skateboard (horse). I need this to be true in my life

- Her betrothal to Baelor I imagine was to ease up relations with the marcher lords since they probably weren’t too happy about the Dornish having a strong influence on the throne. I wouldn’t be surprised if Myriah suggested the match, and they happened to pick Jena because she was the closest to Baelor’s age

- That being said though, their match went pretty well! I mean for a while it was pretty obvious that Jena and Baelor were basically a pr relationship but over time they did come to care for each other! They didn’t really have the slow burn romance that Daeron and Myriah had but they still had some kind of affection

- She did have her kids pretty young, but not really early in the marriage because I have to believe her weird late teens goth angst was why she named her kids Valarr and Matarys of all things or it might kill me

- If I could give her a friendship with any of her sisters in laws it would probably be Aelinor? But they weren’t like friends friends, they were just able to get along pretty well because they grew up in the same region even though their interests are wayyyy different from one another

- Ngl she probably had some crazyyy beef with Dyanna. Like, those ladies could not sit next to each other at the family function cause it either ended with them fighting (mostly about who’s kids are the worst),or them ganging up to bully another noble while absolutely hammered on some of that dornish red

- Also it needs to be said, Jena was probably absolutely a stunt queen when she had to grow out of her goth phase. Like, she went to the Alyssa T school of Being a Bad Bitch because she probably went riding and sailing with her kids all the time while they were still babies. If Baelor had a dragon she’d be bullying him to take her flying literally every day and get it to shit on the roofs of people she doesn’t like. - Okay so figuring out the whole timeline/relation with her kinda drove me insane, but my theory for the time being is that she’s Elaena’s stepdaughter through Ronnel, which does make her technically cousins with Aerys through marriage? I think she’s still probably a few years younger than him tho

- I also kinda think Elaena’s behind this betrothal a bit tbh- I think Aelinor really liked Elaena but saw her a lot more as a mentor she aspired to be like rather than any kind of surrogate mother figure

- Personality-wise girlie’s a completeee introvert. Like, I think she wants to be social and charming and all that, but she got that social anxiety that makes it so she’s scared to talk to people and spends most of her day inside reading

- For her hobbies….. - Honestly this lady reads as a complete social butterfly to me lmao. Like, really bubbly, charismatic, and likeable as a person- I think she came in as a companion for Daenerys and both Daeron and Myriah decided to set her up with Rhaegel just cause she was really kind (and being from a major house definitely didn’t hurt either)

- For hobbies I can absolutely see her as a lady that was just crazy for birds lol- and that’s an interest I could see her bonding with Daeron over! She loves hawking and keeping some pet songbirds and feeding ravens, ngl I could see her and Aelinor working on a giant bird encyclopedia together lol

- When it comes to her and Rhaegel, I don’t think it was really love at first sight? Like, I think they got along and did eventually bond after the twins were born, but they only fell in love a few years into their marriage

- Speaking of the twins though! I really don’t think she was cool with the idea of them marrying, honestly it kinda horrified her but she saw how weirdly close they became and tried to cope by justifying that they’d be better together than apart with other people cause…. Dyanna:

- Ngl she’s probably second to Alys in being one of the sweetest in the group, but she takes NO bullshit from anyone. As stated before, she’s ready to throw down with Jena at the drop of a hat but tries not to start too many fights

- She and Maekar married out of love. To me!!! Like, idk they don’t seem like a politically advantageous match, so in my brain Dyanna was probably the daughter of one of Myriah’s ladies in waiting and the two ended up falling in love as teens cause idkkkkkk that’s kinda cute <3

- As for hobbies: absolutely cracked at weaving. 85% of the decorations at Summerhall are her tapestries and the other 15% are crafts by other artists that she really liked. She probably weaved most of her childrens’ baby clothes herself and regularly gifts handmade crafts to her family and friends

- Idk if she really had a favourite with any of her kids, but I can kinda say for certain that she definitely had a hard time with Aerion because she felt like she needed to be overly strict with him specifically which….. probably maybe perhaps gave Aerion some mommy issues idkkkkkkkk

- I like to think she had a cat at some point too, and when it had kittens she gifted them to each of her kids but they mostly became general household cats over time (except for Egg’s cat, that was his own and it…. Found itself at the bottom of the well whoops-)

there's a collective idea of hcs for ada and while i agree with some, some i don't see as realistic but that's the whole thing about hc! some people relate to more than others and since her backstory is a mystery, everyone can kinda go with what they want!

for her family specifically there's a fake story that she tells leon at some point but it's just on the fan wiki so i don't really wanna use that as any basis for what a fake story would be like

i don't like the idea of her being trafficked (a lot of people hc this but i don't think this is necessary for her story) but i see her having a rough childhood, be it her family was murdered or that she lost her house and family to a fire. something about fire seems like it's tied to her.

some people like the whole black widow route where she was taken into some school and taught how to fight and kill. i see her not really killing until she's in her 20s tbh. some people think of her killing when she's like 11 but i feel like that would contribute to her psychology more if she did kill that young.

there's also theories about her ethnicity since she may be mixed, chinese/vietnamese and or half white. i moreso subscribe to her being fully chinese or at least east asian with primarily chinese as her heritage. (i know that one video with ink ribbon perpetuated this idea that she's half white, but i've NEVER found a source on that.)

i also did a poll before! and the consensus was actually that ada speaks both mandarin and cantonese!

i like this better tbh so readers can relate more if they understand one or the other language or both!

i also did this other poll if ada remembers her birthday or not and i think it's leaning more towards her remembering but not celebrating.

where as i kinda lean towards her not remembering! but i can see her even maybe remembering the general day but it'll happen and she'll be alone :((( and she just goes throughout her day. maybe she'll take the time to go see leon if the timeline allows.

i'm thinking re5-re6 era, i see her maybe visiting leon on her birthdays and not telling him. maybe he asks her eventually.

i don't see ada visiting her parents graves. if they did die in a fire/murdered. i see them maybe buried somewhere in china but she wouldn't go to visit that often if at all. she wouldn't want the family tie to her.

i also think of her having disjointed memories of her parents. i do see them maybe being on the richer side, but losing it all. i see her having happy memories but they slowly slip away from her by the time she's in her 30s. i see certain smells and sounds let her remember her parents better. i see many some uncles or aunties. maybe even a sibling. but i also see her as an only child. but it's also because she was born in 1974 in china, and depending on where she was born and the laws at the time, she might have only be a only child (since she was a girl)

i see her having long hair at first and being forced to cut it short. (THIS LEADS INTO HER IF SHE HAS KIDS AND LETS HER GIRLS HAVE LONG HAIR, IT MAKES HER SO HAPPY BECAUSE HER GIRLS ARE SAFE)

roy and gator are both cut from the same cloth forsure. the way roy suddenly is taking orders and ease the tension with who im assuming is his father in law (idk) about the ammo issue is so telling.

roy has no real control of his personal, his wife left his controlling ass, and his father in law is the one whos really masterminding that whole 1776 bs.

it makes total sense that he would treat those working under him and his own son as lap dogs. the fact that he's still after his wife despite remarrying and having two young daughters himself, it still isnt enough.

as for gator, of course he's gonna act like his dad. his mom left, his peak days of hs athletism is behind him, all he has left is to be seen as worthy by his old man. gator driven by all his negative emotions and lack of support follows his father blindly because its all he has left.

both men couldnt prevent negative outcomes in their personal lives and as a result they lash out in their public/work lives. they think themselves as 'the law of the land' because its the only time they can act as in control.

however, noting that both are raging racists in their own idiotic manner, i'll say this, its both somewhat sweet and interesting that gator calls her dorthy and not nina, almost as if to still somewhat respect her. whereas his dad driven by embarassment and resentment is still hell driven on only thinking in the past tense.

tbh i dont think gator would have done any of this on his own accord. maybe he would have looked for closure but because of his dad's gaslighting/manipulation on the subject like many other things (i assume) he's willing to most likely die to see his father happy.

are we just cursed in December or??? details behind the cut, cw for cancer, death (don't worry me and my husband and kids are fine)

So last December we went to visit my family for the holidays as usual and it was kind of a total nightmare. Mr Lita was having panic attacks because we found that chipmunks had excavated a city under our porch and destabilized it and he was afraid of rodents getting into our house, my sister had COVID, and Southwest airlines totally fucked up so that we had to book a different flight home days later than we intended. It was altogether a miserable month.

This year, my mom's coming out here and everything was looking good! Mr Lita was doing fine, nothing's wrong with the house, etc.

Except, we just found out his dad has stage 4 pancreatic cancer. This was literally a couple days ago so we don't have much info yet but his parents had a friend pass from pancreatic cancer recently and it was only six weeks from her diagnosis to passing. He's already trying to sort out his financial papers and make funeral plans and he hasn't even had a biopsy yet. I believe he intends to only seek palliative or hospice care, which tbh is very reasonable given the extremely short timeline for most people with pancreatic cancer.

The day after we found that out, my kid who has anxiety and emetophobia had her first major panic attack in months because having a cold with a wet cough freaked her out, and is still not quite back to her normal yet. We haven't told the kids about their grandpa's cancer yet.

My mom's coming out to spend the holidays with us next Friday and I'm like gosh!!! How am I gonna make this a fun holiday season for my kids when their grandpa is dying!!! How am I gonna make sure my anxious kid doesn't start having panic attacks about whether she herself might have cancer!!! I don't know if he's going to die in two weeks or a month or six months and I don't know how to plan fun things for my kids with the knowledge that we may have to cancel at any moment if things go south even faster than they already are.

My sister-in-law is on vacation in New Zealand for this entire month so gosh I hope he at least has a month of time so she can get back to see him. He has a biopsy on Tuesday and his first appointment with the oncologist the day after Christmas which seems interminably far away. I feel completely helpless to help my in-laws or my husband right now and I fucking suck at keeping a brave face because i will cry at a moment's notice.

We're going to have to tell the kids tomorrow I think because my brother-in-law is gonna come down and they'll want to get together and so they'll need to know. I know it's better for my kids if I can be calm and confident talking to them about it but I simply cannot have a conversation about this without bawling.

And I wanted to do all this fun stuff with my kids and my mom for Christmas! And I know that my father in law wants my kids to be happy and having fun and not worrying about him! But how am I supposed to do that!! My sister and her family are coming a couple days after Christmas too and idk whether everything will be fine or whether there will be additional drama there. 😩 What do I do if he takes a turn for the worse very rapidly and doesn't even make it through the month?

I kind of hate how this part of it was easier at least when my dad passed away. He was in ill health for a long time and we knew he probably wouldn't be around more than another year but we didn't have a specific terminal outcome for most of that time so it was easy to not think about it too much. Then when he couldn't do dialysis anymore it was basically a very specific timeline and we knew he would not be around more than two weeks from that point. It was awful and I hated it but at least we knew.

3. What’s a female character you look up to?

kind of embarrassing but elle woods lmfao. i dont talk too much about myself outside of liking video games but generally speaking i really likes presenting pretty girlish and feminine, and where i live it gets me a lot of grief and people looking down on me. so seeing someone like her who is sooo unabashedly pink and pretty and going to fucking harvard law changed something in me. because i absolutely did have a ‘not like other girls’ phase as a kid but characters like her helped me out of that. realistically as an adult i can see its different for me than her, given shes a rich white woman whos also not real, but still! shes very dear to me. when i was thinking of other characters to put here my other thought was maribelle fire emblem so can you guess i have a type?

6. A female character who got done dirty by the narrative?

celica fire emblem in echoes specifically. i didnt play gaiden because i dont hate myself but i dont know the differences in plot. but in echoes its just like. i love conrad but why is he here? so he can take the spotlight away from celica and solve her problems when she was just fine without him in then original! and then alm has to come save her, and then guess who gets the cool final hit animation at the end of their dual narrative? not her! its like. man. what the hell. i like celica and everything, shes a great character, but intsys does not respect her enough. i will tho. give her to ME.

7. A female character the narrative wound up being much better to than you’d thought it would be?

ivy fire emblem. honestly, like a lot of people, i had a really sour first impression of engage just based on the trailers, and also like a lot of people, i thought ivy was just gonna be camilla 2.0 seductress on a wyvern they’d use strictly for fanservice and cast any interesting traits away. happy to say i was wrong! i loved her character arc with her turning against her father, watching him die, and then fleeing the country everything riding entirely on the hope that the divine dragon can still accept her offerings. and then having to face hortensia and face the fact that ivy left her behind and still get hortensia to come with you its just… ugh. ivy fire emblem. its been a while since i read engages story but her individual character story specifically was just. so fun. i love her very much.

15. Female character you would defend with your life?

lucina fire emblem. same issues as with severa tbh in the sense that in my happy little tumblr bubble i see nothing but complete love an adoration for her, but if i step out and see a twitter/reddit nerd’s opinion on her i lose my mind. “shes boring shes just a forced love interest for male robin her story is poorly written shes shallow” im gonna kill you. god forbid a young woman go through struggles the likes of which none of us will ever know and finds it hard to tell a joke. fucking christ.

While cleaning duty technically isn’t his job requirement, he can’t STAND to work in a filthy office and the cleaning crew doesn’t do much of a good job in his opinion

Walking into his office is more intimidating than walking into Joshua or Jeonghans office tbh

Though he does have a bad habit of nagging, it takes A LOT to screw up so bad that he demands you to come up and see him

Do you use sarcasm a lot: Literally all the time. I grew up in the 90s and it stuck, what can I say.

What's the first thing you notice about people: Their hair. I love a good head of hair!

What's your eye colour: Grey-blue. Pretty standard.

Scary movies or happy endings: Happy endings! I am a big baby and don’t like horror stories unless they’re about ghosts.

Currently reading: The Great Mistake by Mary Roberts Rinehart, because I needed a comfort read and for some reason my go-to for those are mid-century mysteries in which loads of people die because someone was trying to cover up an illegitimate child and/or a divorce. Scandal!

tbh i'm very excited for whumptober at the moment! i'm actually working ahead this year, so i think i'm going to have some really fun fics in the works the next couple of months.

oh i have so many good lines... i wrote something really good recently working within a specific constraint but i'm not allowed to share it yet, let me pick something else.

from for reasons wretched and divine, my beloved. i just really like the negotiation scene, i wrote vash so incredibly hot and butch and i'm not over it, tbh. this specific paragraph has that, and good metaphor work (my favorite) and vash laying down the law with regards to his approach to sex. also one of many lines about vash's eyes being slightly overwhelming and dangerous to stare into because every single fic for like three months was describing them as "baby blues" and i started to lose braincells.

10. How would you describe your writing process?

i'm well aware that this is not the most efficient way to do it, and it's probably an effect of both how my brain works (i think in words/narrative) and the fact that i'm very much self-taught, but i basically write the finished product as i want it to look, straight out of my brain onto the page.

so i write starting at the beginning, editing as i go, and if i'm not happy with something, i try to fix it before i move on (this, incidentally, is why i have a gazillion wips stalled out somewhere at the 500-2k word mark, because i have yet to figure out what i'm not happy with in the opening that i wrote)

the upside is that i don't really go through a drafting process, my first drafts are very clean and usually just need a quick scrub for minor errors.

the downside is that the endless advice about giving yourself permission to write poorly just. does not work on me. writing haphazardly just slows me down.

Hi I have a question. I think I read that studying law is the second college degree that you are pursuing. How did you decide to start over? How did you get the motivation for it?

This is not meant as an insult for you but I sometimes feel too old to go back to college (I am 28). I guess in my culture there also is just this immense pressure to function and if you're not happy with your job better suck it up. I am scared to start over and I also wouldn't know what would make me happier but someone like you, who started over is a big inspiration for me to at least collect some information about it

Well, it's not really starting over, as I see it tbh.

I have the first degree fully (it's just a bachelors, not a masters) and I got that back in my early twenties so I would have something to fall back on just in case.

Then I worked full time as a manager for Disney and I really enjoyed it for the most part, but also knew I didn't want to do it my entire life.

Law School was always my dream. The reason I didn't study that initially was because I couldn't get in. When Covid hit, I had a revelation and was like "I'll be damned if I die of a stupid virus without even TRYING to pursue my dream"

So I put in a lot of work and effort to get in to Law School despite my terrible grades from high school (I was a slacker) and to my enormous surprise, I got in on one of their "special" spots (84 people got one of those out of 2000 applicants)

So it was a chance I took that I didn't expect to pan out. Ever since I got in, I've taken it as a sign from the universe that everything was meant to happen this way. I would have never been able to go through this without the experience from my former degree, as well as the time I spent working. Everything was building up to this.

It's never too late to pursue your purpose or dreams in life.

If you have something else you'd just know, in your fucking gut, that you'd be amazing at, pursue it. If you know it would make you feel more fulfilled in life, perhaps even happy, pursue it. Even if you're not entirely sure, there are ways to find out (I took a course, for example, to make sure I really would enjoy law, not as it's portrayed on TV, but as it's actually like, before I applied to school)

Fuck what everyone else thinks.

Do you live your life at the benefit of others?

What are you going to look back at when you're old and tired? Will you regret pursuing your dreams? Or will you regret feeling pushed by others into going in a direction that didn't truly satisfy you?

Your life is about you. It's about no one else.

I'm in class with people ten years my junior, and while I rarely go to parties, they love me because I have a different outlook and different life experience. It seems scary in thought but most people tend to want to be around people who can help them develop, teach them things.

My best advice to anyone who's considering making a change but are scared of what might happen;

Just do it. Worst thing that could happen is that you learn something along the way.

If there's one person you should always bet on, it's yourself.
