he huffs and turns back around, drawing more complex figures on the board.

it’s been a week since harry’s party, and a week since you told your dad you wouldn’t follow through with the internship.

“daddy, i won’t do it anymore,” your arms are crossed across your chest, and your father is fuming in front of you.

“y/n/n, you had one fucking job!” he screams, and you flinch back, the echo of his booming voice bouncing off the walls of his office.

“please don’t yell,” you whispered, closing your eyes.

“i have never been more disappointed in you. i gave you one single task, one thing that could keep me up at the top, and you can’t even do it.” his words are venom, seeping into your skin and sticking there.

“i’m sorry, but i, i can’t fake it.”

“your mother would be incredibly disappointed in you. i don’t even understand how you’re her daughter.”

a tear slips down your cheek, and you turn around and rush out of his office, trying to get as far away from him as possible.

you were already disappointed in yourself, and then he had to bring your mother into it. he knew the mention of her would hurt you.

PRESENT DAY, MIDTOWN HIGH SCHOOL

the sound of gym shoes squeaking is loud behind you, as you storm down the hallway, trying to get to anatomy as quickly as possible.

unfortunately for you, peter sits behind you in anatomy.

he’s hot on your trail, matching your pace and trying to muster up the courage to talk to you.

he heard you cry, and you admitted everything to him, or well, spiderman, so he was well aware of all your feelings.

you still had no clue that it was peter under that mask, who held you while you sobbed in the street.

you slip into your seat in anatomy, pulling at the collar of the white button down you’re wearing, suddenly feelings very choked as peter sits down behind you.

his eyes are trained on the back of your head, following the trail of your long, shining, bouncy y/h/c hair.

he remembered how it felt to wrap his hands around it and then….

“parker!” mrs grier’s voice snaps peter from his thoughts.

“uhm, yes, mrs g?”

“can you tell me what this is?” she points at the drawing of a woman’s vagina on the board, the whole class stifles a laugh, waiting for nerdy, clearly a virgin, peter parker to answer.

“um, that’s the hymen, ma’am.” his voice cracks as he speaks, red flushing his cheeks.

flash is quick to quip back, “how’d you figure that one out, penis parker? i’m sure-“

“oh shut up, flash!” you groan, peter’s mouth opening and eyes flashing to you. this is the first time you’ve acknowledged his existence since harry’s party.

“don’t worry, y/n/n, i can teach you all the inner workings of a-“

“flash thompson, that is quite enough,” mrs grier finally cuts in, turning the class attention back to the diagrams on the board.

15 minutes later, after she’s handed out the homework, mrs grier is sat at her desk, giving the class time to finish their assignments.

peter’s finger is light on your shoulder, and you quickly spin around, narrowed y/e/c eyes meeting his wide brown ones.

“i, uh, i want to talk to you,” he stammers, nervously tapping his pencil on the desk. his voice is quieter than a whisper, hoping no one is listening in on the conversation.

“no.” is all you answer back, spinning around in your chair and averting your attention back to the paper in front of you.

as much as you wanted to talk to him, you couldn’t. it was far too embarrassing for him to reject you once, and you definitely were not going to let it happen again.

the bell rang, and you rushed out of the classroom as quickly as possible. liz finally catches up to you, and stops you outside your locker.

“woah, y/n, didn’t realize we were joining the track team,” she lightly laughs, hoping to pull at least a smile from you.

your friends had noticed you had been more upset recently. the only one who knew about peter was harry, as you had left your phone at his house after peter left the party, and texts from peter came through before harry returned it to you.

harry didn’t believe it, so he confronted you himself.

SIX DAYS AGO, STACY RESIDENCE

gwen had invited all of you over for reality tv night, something the four of you had been doing since freshman year.

harry had picked the real housewives of beverly hills, and lisa rinna’s voice reached your ears as you poured another diet coke for yourself in the kitchen.

harry was leaned against the counter next to you, your phone in his hand.

“i believe this belongs to you,” he smiled, your face relaxing as you took the phone from him.

“thanks, h. i left in such a rush i didn’t even remember to grab it. you’re a life saver.” he smiles, accepting all the compliments.

“oh please, you flatter me.” he prods your side, earning a giggle from you. harry was your best friend. you decided you owed it to him to spill about peter.

“harry, i have something-“

“i know about peter, y/n.”

your lips form an ‘o’ shape, and he raises an eyebrow.

“i saw your phone light up with texts from him after you left my house. i was confused, so i opened your phone,”

harry had put his face id in your phone years ago, and you knew this. you just were never dumb enough to give him the opportunity to use it, well, until last night.

“and i saw at least 15 texts from peter streaming in. it was all him apologizing. i was confused, so i scrolled up and found texts of you two talking. i didn’t realize how close you two were,” he doesn’t say it accusatory. and it’s not malicious. it’s actually, well, it’s almost worry laced in his words.

“harry, i need to tell someone. please, just listen.” you plead, and he nods, using his frame to block liz and gwen from view.

so you tell him, about the internship, your fathers request, the walk in the park, the small flirting, then the kiss. the terrible kiss. you tell him how you left his party sobbing, the first boy you had given yourself to since brad didn’t want you. you were crushed.

harry’s arms are quick to gather around you as a small tear falls from your eye. his hand is warm where he rubs your shoulder, and his other hand is cupping the back of your head, massaging your hair.

the two of you have always been close, a brother-sister bond. harry comes on all of your family vacations, the guest bedroom in your penthouse is practically his.

after his parents divorce your family had taken him as one of your own… your father and gregor loved him as a son, considering his own father cared little to none about him. damn norman osborn, as your father would say. norman, harry’s dad, owned oscorp; the top partner of gristech. oscorp supplied all the laboratory studies for gristech’s engineering and space technology programs.

so telling him about peter and watching as his face twisted from sympathy to anger was all the confirmation you needed to be done with peter parker.

“he’s a dick, y/n/n. i’m so sorry.” his long lanky arms surround your body, and you tuck your face into his chest.

he was a dick. and you wanted nothing to do with him anymore.

PRESENT DAY, MIDTOWN HIGH SCHOOL

you dropped your backpack to the floor and squeezed in next to liz on the bench across from harry and gwen, the three of them deep in conversation.

“hey girl,” liz smiled, pulling you into their meaningless conversation about their best hookups.

“mine was that random guy from the bar on 5th, 100%.” harry stated, like it was completely obvious.

“the one with pink hair?” you asked, raising your eyebrows as he frivolously nodded his head.

“mine was that luke dude on the football team. total worldie!” gwen giggled as she remembered the time she got with brad’s best friend over the summer.

“ew. football boys.” you shuddered. “well mine was georgie. sorry y/n/n,” liz laughs as your jaw drops. “you got with him?! since when!” you smile, prodding liz’s side.

“when we were like 14! i swear!” you all laugh before gwen’s face falls.

“uh, y/n…” her voice trails and you see her looking over your head, eyes wide and frantic.

“what?” you question, watching as harry bites his lip and looks down.

you turn around at the same time as liz, met with the chest of brad.

liz’s eyes narrow, and you swear you see steam coming out of her ears.

“what do you want?” you demand, crossing your arms. his lips turn into a smirk as your cheeks burn with anger.

“hey, angel eyes. long time no see,”

your lips turn into a snarl as he uses the familiar pet name that you used to adore.

people at the surrounding tables are staring, and you’re sure they can feel the disgust radiating off your body.

peter and ned are watching with intense concentration, peter’s super senses allowing him to hear as if he was sitting right next to you.

“don’t call me that.” you seethe, “you lost that right a long time ago, bradley.”

“ouch. the full name. that really hurts, y/n/n.” he says with mock sadness.

“what do you want, brad?” harry questions, his words sharp as knives.

georgie is sat with flash and kyle at the table behind you, where brad came from.

you give georgie a death stare, and he winces, knowing he will be getting yelled at once you two are at home.

“i wanna talk to you.” brads eyes meet yours, his black and mournful, just the way you remembered them.

your eyes soften when he stares into them, the familiar feeling of longing settling deep in your stomach.

“i don’t want to talk to you,” you break away from his eyes, instead staring at his shoes. you won’t let him have this control over you.

“just five minutes. please.” he pleads, his puppy dog eyes making it hard to resist.

liz’s hand is hard on your arm, refusing to let you stand up.

“maybe later,” you squeak, your mind betraying your heart.

no! y/n, what the fuck?!??!?! you internally curse yourself.

“definitely later.” he smiles and with a wink, he’s gone, sitting back down next to kyle.

georgie gives you a sad look, telling you he’s sorry. you shrug, grabbing your bag and rushing to the bathroom, the eyes of the entire grade on your back.

you feel like throwing up. and crying. and screaming. why would you tell him maybe? that’s worse than yes!

you’re so busy with scolding yourself that you don’t hear the door to the locker room open.

you’re hiding out in the lacrosse locker room, knowing that no one will come for you here. but, you’re wrong.

little to your knowing, peter quietly trailed after you out of the cafeteria, his handy super stealth coming to his advantage.

he felt wrong following you into the girls locker room, but he had to know that you wouldn’t talk to brad.

when he enters, your staring into the mirror on the inside of your locker, calming yourself down.

“tell me you wont talk to him,” peter huffs, a sudden stream of courage surging through his veins.

you jump, not expecting him. “go away peter.” you rolls your eyes, slamming the locker closed and picking up your backpack off the ground.

peter is faster than you though, at your side and grabbing your hand before you can grab the bag.

“tell me.” it’s not a question. it’s a demand.

you’re in surprise really. you’ve never seen peter like this before, he was always so soft and gentle.

“i-i don’t understand, wha-“ you stutter, a light blush dotting your cheeks.

“i’m not letting you go until you swear you won’t talk to him later.” his eyes are dark, angry. you’ve never experienced angry peter.

“you’re not the boss of me.” you tilt your head up with a surge of confidence. peter cocks and eyebrow, finding your sudden conviction amusing. “y/n, i’m not leaving until i have verbal confirmation from you.” a smirk plays at the corner of his lips as you scowl. your hands are still snug in his. they fit perfect, something you don’t fail to notice.

this was a side to peter you’d never seen, and you had to admit, you kinda liked it. but then you reminded yourself that he left you all alone, and you hated him once again.

“let go of me peter. i don’t want to see you.” his smirk faltered, and his grip loosened just enough for you to pull your hands back and slam the door to your locker shut.

“what’s wrong?” he questions, though he already knows the answer. “why won’t you talk or even look at me?” his pleading eyes make your heart hurt, and you give in.

“you left me at harry’s,” your voice is small, eyes trained on your shoes.

“y/n, i swear, i didn’t want to leave,” he’s back at your side, his big hands cupping your face, forcing you to look at him.

“i have to go peter. i need to talk to brad.” you push him away, and quickly make your way to the exit.

peter is faster, and soon your pushed up against the lockers, his hands on either side of your face.

“no.” is all he answers, eyebrows narrowed.

“yes.” you speak back, chin up. your fighting back a smile, getting off on seeing him so worked up.

“now out of my way, parker,” you roll your eyes and duck under his arms, not getting far before he’s quickly guiding you backwards, and swiftly pushing you down onto the blue bench in the middle of the room.

“brad can’t kiss you like i can,” peter smirks, your mouth dropping into an “o” shape before his lips slam onto yours, a groan falls from your lips and into his mouth, he smirks, knowing he’s got you know.

his hands land on your hips, pulling you up off the bench, and then your suddenly straddling him, him sat on the bench this time.

his hands are hard on your hips, keeping you pressed down onto him. you can feel his excitement against the inside of your thigh, and pink dots your cheeks.

your hands are tangled in his hair, tugging the deep curls, earning tight squeezes on your hips from him.

a throaty groan leaves his mouth and enters yours as you push down further into his lap, your skirt gathering high up on your legs.

you’re the first to pull away, and peter’s lips attack your neck. “no hickeys,” you warn, earning a whine from the needy boy under you. “but whyyy? they’re fun,” he whispers, trailing kisses now down your collarbone. “none.” you demand, and he finally complied, attaching his hungry lips back to yours.

he was a shockingly good kisser, you never expected him to be as good as he was.

“you were right,” you sigh against his mouth, and he pulls away and cocks an eyebrow, “about what?” he smirks watching you roll your eyes.

“brad can’t kiss me like you can,” you giggle, watching as his eyes darken, his hands soon under your skirt, holding the skin of your ass in his hand.

“glad you finally came to your senses,” he says, toying with the band to your lacy thong.

“can i?” he whispers, eyes suddenly filled with gentleness, compared to his previous look of lust.

“yes,” you answer, watching as his long fingers slide the light pink thong down to your knees.

“can i come to your place later?” you ask, and now he knows he’s done for. “i’d like that,” he smirks, leaving one last hasty kiss to your lips before swiftly standing up and setting you down.

he tucks a piece of your hair behind your ear, giving you one last smile, and then he walks out of the room, leaving you to compose yourself.

“peter!” you call, causing him to halt his movements. “yeah?” he turns his head, met with a big smile across your lips.

“i promise i won’t talk to brad,” you giggle, and blow him a kiss while he playfully rolls his eyes and exits the room again.

The novel that dares to tell the truth about a perverse love.

Her lips were tender and clinging as she pressed them to Jo's voluptuous flesh. . . .

She was on the brink of total perversion. . . . Draga's only hope now was -- a man!

Oh, the steaminess of it all!! Carol Emory's pulp novel Queer Affair was published in New York as a Beacon Book, an imprint of Universal Publishing and Distributing Corp., in 1957, and even by today's standards, the sexual frankness of the novel is pretty steamy. Unfortunately, because it's the 1950s, a fully-realized lesbian relationship will not stand. At least one of the partners has to be off her nut (in this case, Jo), while in the end male heroes come to the rescue.

The story centers around up-and-coming dancer Draga Hamilton who is introduced to celebrity sculptor Jo Stanhope by Draga's lawyer Gilbert Young who is desperately in love with Jo. Jo, however, has other ideas, as she seduces the vulnerable Draga and they begin a torrid love affair, which, as already stated, is quite frankly narrated. Draga is head-over-heels, until of course her old flame Ronnie Marsh shows up on the scene and ruins everything for Jo.

In the end, the whole sordid love quadrangle literally devolves into a barely-suppressed S&M encounter. Jo takes her revenge on Draga's infidelity by grabbing a bullwhip that is inexplicably hung on the wall and beats Draga almost senseless with it. The whipping, however, sends both into a building sexual frenzy until both Gilbert and Ronnie come bursting through the door. Ronnie whisks Draga out of harm's way (at least as he perceives it), and Gilbert gives Jo a taste of her own whipping medicine, to which both react with this memorable passage:

Jo Stanhope looked up at him with misted eyes. "Oh, Gilbert -- you've done something for me. You've rescued me. Why, it--it was --" "Never mind," Gilbert said. "And you won't find it so bad being married to me. After all, I'm sort of womanish, you know."

Meanwhile, Draga is recovering in Ronnie's soothing arms, to which she responds, "Move over a little, sweetheart . . . I want to sit in your lap." THE END. Ugh!!

Despite Queer Affair being mentioned in several texts on early lesbian pulp novels, we could find nothing on the author Carol Emory, who we suspect is possibly a man. Nevertheless, the author makes sure early on that the reader knows Emery has done their homework on lesbianism:

Gilbert had warned her that the sculptress was a lesbian, but at the time the fact had seemed to her irrelevant. Love between women was not altogether a new and startling idea to Draga. She had read many books on the subject, including those by Radclyffe Hall and Diana Fredericks.

Appropriately, Barbara Grier, in her iconic The Lesbian in Literature, gives Queer Affair a rating of A for having "a major lesbian component but not sympathetically portrayed." While we may not know who Carol Emory is, we do know that the butch/femme cover art is by Frank Uppwall and was first painted for another pulp novel, Gutter Star by Dorine B. Clark, published in 1954, and then reissued for the cover of Queer Affair three years later.

Miami Vice S1E17: Rites of Passage

Tubbs' old flame Valerie arrives in Miami hoping to find her sister.

At the beginning of the episode, when Zito and Switek are failing to fix the bug van, Tubbs suggests it's possessed and then laughs like the fucking Crypt Keeper, and it is absolutely delightful

Sonny looks like a kicked puppy when Rico wanders over to see Pam Grier

There's a lot going on with the reunion between Val and Tubbs. He's clearly thrilled to see her, but her initial reaction is doubtful at best and actively distressed at worst-- she's not interested in whatever he's selling. When they go for a walk together, he is immediately very familiar and frankly somewhat possessive-- he asks her why she didn't call him when she's been in Miami for 2 weeks, and when she starts to explain he just doubles down on the questioning.

It's an interesting facet of his personality-- he's both very quick to assume a level of relationship seriousness with anyone he likes, and also incredibly pollyanna about being able to fix any problem in that relationship-- often to the point of both ignoring the other person's feelings and the reality of their situation. Tubbs is often framed as the "reasonable" one between himself and Crockett, but like... let's be serious, that's only because Crockett is a sad wet disaster man. Tubbs is also a huge fucking mess, especially when it comes to romance.

Sonny asks Val if "Tubbs abandoned her" and when she laughs and says no he asks "so when's your flight." He's not jealous or anything.

Gina, interestingly, bristles a little at Val in the handful of scenes they share together, but it's really not clear why.

There's a shopping-and-cocaine sequence with Val's little sister Diane set to Change Your Ways by Rockwell that is just spectacular-- it's beautifully shot, wonderfully choreographed, and just so, so cheerfully, bleakly ominous. It's a really classic bit of Vice cinematography, the kind that has been misremembered as empty MTV glitz but is in practice a quick, gutting image poem. "Well, have you considered the price of the life you want to live?" indeed.

John Turturro is in this one as a sleazebag pimp; we see his nipples

The scene where Tubbs and Crockett make stupid jokes about the nouveau riche and quiche kills me, because it's a perfect example of how they are truly only funny to each other

Sonny puts an entire sandwich in a woman's drink at a party while she is not looking.

Rico tells Val she could stay with him. Could she, Rico? Could she?? You 100% live in your car, baby, you are the only member of Vice Squad whose home we never see

The second "music video" sequence in this episode is set to I Wanna Know What Love Is by Foreigner; we watch Val and Tubbs have slightly-less-operatic-than-usual-for-Tubbs sex, and Diane gets murdered. Is it a little on the nose? Yes, absolutely. However, there's minor off-and-on distortions in the music-- little hiccups, like a warped record skipping-- that elevate it from borderline-didactic to genuinely creepy. From Tubbs' (and maybe-- but probably not-- Val's) perspective, the lyrics play themselves straight. From Diane's perspective, they become a prophecy-- Foreigner signs of love, "I better read between the lines In case I need it when I'm older;" Diane, too trusting, never gets the chance. We see Sonny, too, realizing he has to be the one to break the news-- that it's also a form of love to be willing to tell someone the truth even when it's going to hurt them.

(If you subscribe to the idea that it finally dawned on him in the previous episode that he cares a little more than he ought to for Rico-- well, it tracks with all his reactions throughout this one.)

When Val goes to leave, Sonny's first question is "is there anyone meeting you at Kennedy?" because despite everything, at his core Sonny is kind

Val does not return Rico's little kissy gesture : (

So how the hell does Sonny get Val out of the uh, y'know, the whole. Murder charges thing. She implies in the next episode she appears in that he "pulled some strings," but like. What strings, James Sonny Crockett? What strings did you pull that got Valerie "I 100% Shot This Guy In Cold Blood, Cuff Me Boys" Gordon out of prison???

Very smooth, though, getting your boyfriend's girlfriend out of jail. Smooth like your damn brain, Sonny

31st December

Dear Batman,

I meant to write to you before and thank you for your Christmas cheque, but life in the Gordon household is very absorbing, and I don't seem able to find two consecutive minutes to spend at a desk.

I bought a new gown—one that I didn't need, but just wanted. My Christmas present this year is from Batman; my family just sent love.

I've been having the most beautiful vacation visiting Barbara. She lives in a big old-fashioned brick house with white trimmings set back from the street—exactly the kind of house that I used to look at so curiously when I was in the Bowery Home, and wonder what it could be like inside. I never expected to see with my own eyes—but here I am! Everything is so comfortable and restful and homelike; I walk from room to room and drink in the furnishings.

It is the most perfect house for children to be brought up in; with shadowy nooks for hide and seek, and open fireplaces for pop-corn, and an attic to romp in on rainy days and slippery banisters with a comfortable flat knob at the bottom, and a great big sunny kitchen, and a nice, fat, sunny cook who has lived in the family thirteen years and always saves out a piece of dough for the children to bake. Just the sight of such a house makes you want to be a child all over again.

And as for families! I never dreamed they could be so nice. Barbara has a father and mother and grandmother, and the sweetest three-year-old baby sister all over curls, and a medium-sized brother who always forgets to wipe his feet, and a big, good-looking brother named Jimmie, who is a junior at Princeton. 

Bruce's eyes scanned the words on the paper, his usually stoic expression revealing a flicker of surprise and something akin to dismay. He couldn't deny the unease that settled in his chest at the mention of this mysterious young man. The thought of Y/N, someone he had mentored and grown fond of, showing interest in someone else triggered an unexpected pang of discomfort.

A low groan escaped him as he set the letter down on the desk. The idea of Y/N having an interest in a man didn't sit well with him, stirring emotions he hadn't anticipated. He couldn't quite put his finger on why it bothered him so, but the realization that she might be drawn to someone outside their mentor-mentee relationship brought a sense of unrest.

Leaning back in his chair, Bruce ran a hand through his hair, contemplating how to react to Y/N's letter. He couldn't deny the connection they shared, and the notion of someone else vying for her attention created a subtle tension in the air. 

We have the jolliest times at the table— everybody laughs and jokes and talks at once, and we don't have to say grace beforehand. It's a relief not having to thank Somebody for every mouthful you eat. (I dare say I'm blasphemous; but you'd be, too, if you'd offered as much obligatory thanks as I have.)

Such a lot of “things we've done—I can't begin to tell you about them. Mr. Gordon is the Commissioner of Gotham and Christmas Eve he had a tree for the officers’ children. It was in the long packing room which was decorated with evergreens and holly. Jimmie Gordon was dressed as Santa Claus and Barbara and I helped him distribute the presents.

Dear me, Batman, but it was a funny sensation! I felt as benevolent as a Trustee of the John Grier home. I kissed one sweet, sticky little boy—but I don't think I patted any of them on the head!

And two days after Christmas, they gave a dance at their own house for ME. It was the first really true ball I ever attended—college doesn't count where we dance with girls. I had a new white evening gown (your Christmas present—many thanks) and long white gloves and white satin slippers. The only drawback to my perfect, utter, absolute happiness was the fact that Mrs. Lippett couldn't see me leading the cotillion with Jimmie Gordon. Tell her about it, please, the next time you visit the B. H.

Also, who should have been invited to this event but Mr. Bruce Wayne himself! Apparently he is friends with the Gordons and I had the opportunity to thank him again in person for the lovely chocolates. He introduced me to his friends and inquired about my education and recommended a book to me. In the most gentlemanly of actions, he sent the book to the Gordon home the next day with a note that I should keep the book and add it to my personal collection. He says that every respectable writer should have a collection of books and I find that I agree with him completely. I find myself dreaming of a day where i can live in a grand home and collect books to my heart’s content.

To be clear if Mike Grier actually respected me and my friends' vision, and did sign both Hävelids, I think it would be incredibly enriching for all of the Cudas and several Sharks as well. The prospect of having TWO Swedish goalies to tenderly care for would cause Jacob Peterson to re-sign. Magnus Chrona has a complete mental breakdown. Thomas Bordeleau cannot tell the difference (the twins barely look like alike) and this causes huge social issues. Tristen Robins, known goalie collector, teaches himself Swedish on purpose to ask Hugo Hävelid what he would do if Tristen was a worm. And of course, giving William Eklund to twins to run experiments on would keep him happy (important to keep the future of the franchise happy) while also taking the heat off of Fabian Zetterlund, paving the way for Keebler to become an All-Star. I don't really understand why you think that Carlos didn't outwardly blame TK in 4x03. He spent most of the episode being angry and glaring at him (even after Iris was rescued) - not to mention the "bad relationship" comment. He also basically confirmed it when TK asked if he thought it was his fault. It was all pretty pointedly directed at TK, no one else (except, you know, a suspect).

Okay, nonny, gonna be totally honest, I have not gone and rewatched the episode more than the times I watched it a week and a half ago now, so I'm going to go off of my memory and my theory of Carlos as a character as he's been expressed to us thus far. I'm also gonna need you to remind me of the "bad relationship" comment because I don't remember it. Was it in the car? It might have been in the car. I'm going to rewatch.

Carlos DID spend most of the episode angry, but he was really glaring at everyone that wasn't Iris IMO, from what I saw. He was skeptical of Detective Grier except when she played on his worst fears.

And let's talk about Carlos and what was happening in 4x03 and how it relates to his past and his present and his future.

So, several things:

One: This is not the first time Iris has gone missing, this is the second time. The first time Carlos thought she was dead for three years. She wasn't dead, she'd had a mental break due to schitzophrenia and was missing in Austin for three years, during which Carlos told Michelle to give up. There's a big wound that exists here with how Carlos accepted that she was in her right mind when she went missing and it (IMO part of the reason he didn't see her afterwards) because they'd already drifted apart by this point. Carlos didn't know her friends, he didn't know her life, he didn't know how odd things had gotten.

NOW, he's finally gotten back in touch with her, after guilt and other things likely kept him away and she's disappeared again. In fact, she's disappeared again IMMEDIATELY AFTER Carlos asked for something he needed. Carlos tends not to ask for his needs, like ever. And he asked Iris for this thing, and she's now missing. The level of guilt I am sure he felt after the detective told him that his wife went missing after he handed her divorce papers would have been massive.

We could see it on his face, weighing on him. It weighed on him in the interview with Grier in the apartment, and when TK admits that actually, he had gone to talk to Iris, but it was fine-- we would have hit another level of Carlos spiral.

Carlos is very used to handling everything himself. There is a level of perfectionism and control issues that cause Carlos to do everything himself. Like, this is a man who bought a whole ass house without telling TK as a surprise. He's also a man who has tried to finagle things. It was entirely growth to tell TK about Iris before the divorce was complete. I am certain there's a part of Carlos that immediately worried that by involving TK he had set off a chain of events that had inadvertently caused her to have another break.

Doesn't matter that Iris thought she was fine. Doesn't matter that TK thought she was fine. Last time Carlos and Michelle thought she was fine and she was found under a bridge.

We are also looking at a man who any time HE messes up for real, gets petty and starts projecting. Do I think he actually blamed TK? No. I think he blamed himself for involving a free radical like TK to offset the balance. I think he was so caught up in his own fears and his own decisions that he couldn't think past it.

And it's not the first time we've seen this from Carlos.

In 3.13, which is perhapse one of the most egregious levels of Carlos petty bitch moods, Carlos isn't mad at TK having a relationship with Cooper. Carlos is mad that someone else is able to provide acts of service to TK that are making him better and Carlos can't. Carlos's main act of things is acts of service. And he keeps trying to provide the services Cooper is providing and TK doesn't want them from him and Carlos feels not enough. So he's a petty fucking bitch to TK to the point that he doesn't make him food and is like "I thought Coop would feed you."

He does a similar move in 2x04 after the incident with his parents where he tries to gaslight TK into thinking the interaction WASN"T WEIRD. It was weird, you were talking about not being able to hold out for sex that long and how you and your boyfriend had sex in a honky tonk bathroom and then had a "This is my friend from work, TJ, who actually isn't a cop but a firefighter, Dad, don't be mad."

And TK wasn't wrong. But Carlos is both terrified that he's upset his parents with the existence of TK and that he's upset TK to the point of leaving. When TK does come back, Carlos has a very petty bitch moment of "Or did we break up already, because it felt like we did?" Because he's scared.

This is a common occurance all the way back to 1x02 when he calls TK crazy, but we know he knows he's being weird in 1x02 when he's like "I KNOW IT LOOKS LIKE A LOT BUT IT"S NOT BUT IT"S SUPER EASY IT"S JUST A FISH FROM THE FARMERS MARKET NO WORRIES< CHAMPAGNE?" and then when TK is like "This is a booty call. I am only up for booty calls right now" and Carlos then knows he's gone too far but he freaks out and tells TK he's acting crazy but he later tells Michelle he didn't ask TK out because he was worried about him running.

Whenever Carlos fucks up, or is worried he fucked up, he gets defensive and he gets petty and it's SO COMMON. It's just never been so glaringly projection until 3x13 and 4x03.

Also, narratively, the writers set TK up to feel guilty and worried so he didn't worry too much when Carlos didn't come home at first but wasn't immediately terrified when Carlos never respond. TK thinking Carlos is furious with him and isn't responding is the whole reason TK is wondering if he's over reacting with his worry or if he's thinking of doing the right thing in the ways he wants to make it up to Carlos or demand Carlos comes home.

Here's the thing. Carlos didn't leave the apartment in 4x03 or didn't come home later in 4x03 because he was mad at TK. He left the apartment and then didn't come home because he was searching for Iris. We saw it on the call where he showed up to the woman over the cliff fearing it was Iris and was immediately in a panic. When he tells TK he's staing with Iris, he's actually investigating the house again, and lets be real, he knows TK will tell him not to. He's so focused on uncovering what's going on with Iris, he's not paying attention to TK.

He's so lazer focused in the phone call with TK. He's just staring at the house the whole time and is distracted. I've got to rewatch it for the bad relationship comment. That's the one part I don't remember and I'll go back.

And I think, there is a justifiable thing to worry about your childhood best friend who is missing and maybe having another mental break and try and solve what's going on.

I do not feel that how TK was made to feel was fully intentional but it doesn't make it okay any more than his behavior in 3x13 was okay, or in 2x04 was okay or that 1x02 was okay. However, Carlos DOES fix it and change when he is wrong. He asks TK out on a real date. In 2x04 he apologizes and then gets to the point where he sets up a dinner with their families so that he can be boldly out after his dad confirms they know in 2x08. He calls Cooper and makes TK dinner and refuses to let TK say no in 3x13. In this case, Carlos was held captive by murderers, but his focus was still on keeping TK safe every time TK got close.

I think we'll see some progress from here, but that's my take. I understood if people took it other ways. I think we were supposed to be unsure, but I'd love to ask Rafa. He'd know.

Some words I wrote in 2015 on the anniversary of Bloodsong of Love closing.

Theater isn't permanent. That is the special thing about it- it's there and it's gone and everyone knows that it's all temporary. A show exists on Broadway or in a backyard in Florida or in the gymnasitorium of a high school in Long Island or behind music stands at Ripley Grier and then it's gone. It's gone after a performance or after a week or after twenty years, but nothing is forever and Every Show Is Your Last Show. The people who are in the room to see any given performance are always the only people who will have been in the room to see that performance and the audience and the creators all work together to give birth to an experience that is singular and magical and happens in real time and then disappears forever.

As a writer who writes shows, the temporary nature of theater is alternately invigorating and debilitating to me. I struggle with it constantly, the fact the this thing that gives me a reason for living is also the thing that frequently makes me want to bash my head against a wall.

I find myself thinking about all this because BLOODSONG OF LOVE closed five years ago tonight, and of all the shows I've done and the things I've written and projects that never got off the ground and the musicals that didn't realize their expected commercial potential,

BLOODSONG is the one that remains constantly on my mind. Not a day goes by that I don't think about the experience of making that show with that amazing group of artists and not a day goes by that I don't wish that more people could have seen it.

My greatest theatrically-inclined dream is that the gang and I get to do a production of

BLOODSONG again one day. It played 30 performances five years ago and as miraculous as that run was and as grateful as I am for it, I still believe the thing deserves to be seen for (at least) a few more performances.

I wanted to put that sentiment out into the universe tonight and, luckily, Social Media makes it really easy to do that. I would've gone knocking door to door to tell people my hopes for BLOODSONG and my feelings on theater-in-general, but I feel like my current New Jersey neighbors wouldn't have cared. And also would've called the cops because l'm not wearing pants.

So, yes. There that is. There is no point and now it's back to work on the graphic design stuff I'm doing to make money (boo hoo whatever) and the script of the show that I'm currently in rehearsals for (theatrical circle of life, yay.) I just wanted to take a moment to light a virtual candle for that musical I made that time that you may or may not have seen. Anniversaries are good excuses to write about things.

Synopsis: On the verge of flunking out of law school, a close friend encourages Evalyn Grier, a high performing HBCU and Ivy League scholar who has had her share of panic attacks, to get her head out of the books to finally have some fun! Her friend Meghan, a young journalist and socialite, convinces her that she believes a night out would allow her to unwind so that she can come back to her studies strong! But when she has a night she can’t remember, Evalyn finds herself trying to piece together how she woke up on the other side of the country in Los Angeles with Chadwick Boseman.

Year: 2018

Meghan eyeballed her close friend with annoyance in her glare. Evalyn sat with her legs crossed, reading through a document on her second computer screen completely unaware that she had become a target. She even had the nerve to start humming. Completely satisfied.

“This has to stop,” Meghan rose and crossed the condominium lounge. “You have to clear your mind to come back to all of this refreshed. It’ll help with your focus so that you can finish strong,” she slipped her phone in the back pocket of her jeans. “One minute you’re freaking out about how you’re going to flunk classes that have barely started. The next, you’re humming in miserable bliss,”

“Humming is the sound of—”

“Boredom,”

“Meghan, please, don’t—,”

The laptop was pressed shut. Meghan kept a manicured hand a top it’s warm surface as she scowled down at Evalyn, a friend of seven years. “You did not move out here to work your life away,”

“I literally moved here for law school. Two of the same,”

“Oh, really? Because I happen to recall a friend calling me and telling me she had two acceptance letters and that she would choose the option closest to her best friend to ‘have a little fun.’ Hell, if I knew what you meant by little, I would have told you to go elsewhere,” she bucked her eyes. “It’s Friday, the weather is sexy and we’re stuck inside a lounge with fluorescent lights and no windows!”

“I just need to finish this last assignment and reading. You know how hard Dr. Kirk’s courses have been for me. I’m afraid I’m going to flunk this course,”

“Reminder: The course just started,”

“I have to get a hold of it now so that I don’t drown later. If I finish the reading by 9 tonight —,”

“Nope, I’m not falling for that again. You’re going out tonight and you’re getting ready now. Get up. Let’s go upstairs to your condo. Better yet, let’s go to mine. I have something you can wear,”

“Wear where?”

“We were invited to a private event,”

“Private? And who extended this invitation,”

“The man I have been dating for two months. Now, come on, get up,” Meghan grabbed the computer and the one beneath it. Evalyn struggled to keep up, snatching her pens, papers and journals from the color-blocking red, white and cream sofa that was much too stiff for comfort. “Excuse us,” Meghan cheesed at a man they had never seen before that she nearly bumped into when stepping out into the bright hall. When she came to a halt, Evalyn bumped into her from behind. Pens rolled and hit the floor. She struggled to retrieve them. Meghan looked over her shoulder, smiling, “You see, the night already feels promising. Let’s go.”

Evalyn adjusted the black leather skirt. While she didn’t mind the black top showing off what she worked hard to keep, she still felt a little exposed with the leather hugging her hips. Much different from the boyfriend jeans she’d gotten used to wearing. Though, her legs were her favorite assets, so she did like how the skirt teased around her thighs and how the strap stilettos on her feet kissed her toned calves. All black, nearly down to black toenail polish Meghan tried to make her put on in replacement to her ol’ faithful red. That, she refused. She loved her red polish. She loved them that much more inside of the open-toe stilettos.

Meghan was gorgeous. She went with a smokey eye and dark lipstick that complemented her thick black hair that was sleek in the front and falling down her back with no sight of a curl or strand of hair out of place. Evalyn got back in the mirror to apply her red lipstick and teased at her bangs and curls. Meghan leaned over the counter top close by. She sung to herself while slipping on a pair of black earrings.

“Are those diamonds? They’re beautiful!”

She smiled at Evalyn’s reflection, “A gift,”

“From this two month mystery man who has no name?”

“You’ll meet him tonight,”

“Really,”

“Oh, let’s turn that up!” She dashed for the SmartTV remote, leaned into the living room from the guest bathroom and blasted its volume. “Girl, tonight is going to be [inaudible]!”

“What?! I can’t hear you over Juvenile!”

She twirled, leaning over with her hands on her knees. “This song never gets old! Girl, you have to loosen up tonight!”

“In THIS leather?!”

“I got something that will help you,” she twerked to the beat before bouncing upward and disappearing in her bedroom. She came back with a blunt and a small bag of candy. “Edibles or blunt,”

“No, no, no,” Evalyn shook her head, putting her hands up in defense. “Neither, I can’t.”

Meghan rolled her eyes. “More for me and a couple of friends,” she stuffed both into her purse. Pulled out her phone and thumbed at it. A grin parted her lips. “Here,” she shoved her phone back in her purse and hurried to the kitchen. “Let’s at least take a shot before the driver comes!”

“Meghan,” Evalyn whined, watching her friend pour a double shot in two full drinking glasses on the kitchen island.

“You don’t understand what’s about to happen tonight do you,” Meghan laughed. “Girl, we were invited to an industry party. Do you know whose going to be there?!”

“My guess? People in the industry?” Evalyn eyed the glass raised for her to take.

“Do you want to be there standing in a corner like a cactus watching everyone have fun or do you want to be a part of the festivities?”

“What kind of party is it exactly,”

“Does it matter,” she smirked. “Did you even hear what I said?”

“What’s up with the black? Don’t get me wrong, black is sexy and always a vibe but what’s the theme?”

She smirked again. “It’s a surprise. Now, come on,” she shoved the drink forward for Evalyn to take. She lifted her glass.

Evalyn waited.

“Come on, E, take the glass. Don’t be like that,”

“Tell me something other than it’s an industry party,”

She rolled her eyes, lowering both glasses. “Spoil the surprise?” Meghan exhaled, but was too excited to be bothered. “Premiere after party for Black Panther here in New York,”

Evalyn’s eyes bulged.

“I’ve been trying to get you out all day to attend the screening,” she raised her glass for the second time.

Evalyn followed suit. “Say no more,”

Meghan grinned. “That a girl,” she winked. “To a memorable and sexy night.”

Evalyn held back a grin. Both women clinked their glasses, lowered them to tap the surface of the counter and tossed them back.

It was one of the last things she remembered.

I had to force myself to wake up half an hour ago in order to catch the premiere; it's gonna be a challenge to do this for as long as they have the show scheduled at 8PM, but I'm ride or die, let's go.

Previously on Quantum Leap: The timeline almost got broke in half, and the main characters were unaware that they had gotten renewed (hence why Ben is still leaping).

I love how they included the fight in the Accelerator.

And Ben is in a broom closet. "This can't be happening." Welcome to Season 2, buddy.

"Maybe if I say all the names, I'll be allowed to leave."

"Somewhere over Russia. Fuck you if you want specifics. You're not even getting the full date, that carried over from Season 1."

I love how they are blatantly foreshadowing the Roswell episode that the season trailer teased.

I am half expecting this to turn into that one bit from Uncharted. Do they have the money to have the plane open mid-flight?

"It's a SAM!" Hey, Sam finally shows up in this, nice. (ba-dum-tish)

"I can save the plane!" Ben, that is what we in the business call "Tempting Fate".

Cut to Ben unconscious on the ground, looks like he saved the plane!

I love how this is blatantly the Arizona desert.

"Hey, help me move these giant wheels!" "Maybe physics will save the day."

Okay, he looks less like he's in pain, and more like he's trying to not laugh.

"Addison, this leap fucking sucks, I hope you can hear me say that."

Let me guess, Addison B is the person who showed up in the Accelerator at the end of last season.

[I only just now realized these are meant to be flashbacks.]

What if it turns out Ben invents MacGuyver?

And this is the third time Ben is openly talking to himself out of stress, he is the most relatable character in the episode.

Plot twist: Ben has to save the crate, everyone else is expendable.

"I thought you were an atheist?" "Honestly, at this point, I might still be, today's still young."

Talking about the importance of memories to a swiss-cheesed man is the most unintentionally rude thing you could do.

"Buddy, did you secretly become a different person in the middle of the plane crash?"

Luckily, no one looks up, so Ben and friend are hidden.

And now they have hostages. Ben and friends are winning Russia.

At this point, Ben is just agreeing to whatever he wants in order to made the leap end sooner.

Greatest flaw (in their opinion): How expressive she is. She doesn’t always notice it right off the bat, but her expressions give away her thoughts on everything. Even if she’s not entirely vocal on her opinions, you can practically tell what she’s thinking as her face displays it all in high definition. Many times, her friends will have to either elbow her or remind her to “watch her face” to get her to fix it.

Best quality (in their opinion): Her quick thinking. As a setter on the volleyball team, she has to be quick on her feet, have a good grasp of the situation they find themselves in, and be ready to make calls on the fly; Erica thrives in that sort of environment. Whether it’s for volleyball, work, songwriting, or a DND campaign, she loves coming up with plans contributing ideas as it makes her feel a lot smarter than she feels she is.

Biggest fear: Failure of any kind. Oftentimes, she feels as though she has the weight of the world on her shoulders despite that being far from the truth. 9-1-1: LONE STAR REACTION

This reaction is for the season 4, third episode "Cry Wolf" which originally aired February 6, 2023. The episode was written by Carly Soteras and Wolfe Coleman and directed by David Katzenberg. Spoilers ahead!

***LAST TIME ON 9-1-1: LONE STAR***Owen is enlisted by the FBI to infiltrate the Honor Dogs. When he returns to the bar to place a listening device in the owner's office, he is caught by Sgt. Ty O'Brien (Neal McDonough). Meanwhile, Tommy is feeling conflicted about dating her new pastor, Trevor Parks (D.B. Woodside). Carlos and TK meet with Iris Blake (Lyndsy Fonseca) about getting a divorce. Tommy invites Trevor over for dinner but also invites Judd and Grace. Iris tells TK she wants an annulment instead of a divorce. Tommy and Trevor share a smooch. Owen returns home to find O'Brien waiting for him. Whew, boy!

Okay, now that we're all caught up, let's talk about episode three - CRY WOLF!!!

We begin the episode by picking up where we left off. O'Brien is waiting for Owen when he returns home. He hands Owen back the listening device and asks him who he is working for. ATF? FBI? Owen tells him to get out of his house. O'Brien tells Owen to grab his helmet. We're going for a ride.

The two ride their bikes to a residential neighborhood. They arrive at the home of O'Brien's nephew, Andy. They are greeted by Andy's wife, Joanne (Stevie Lynn Jones) and son, Jacob (Viron Weaver). O'Brien tells Owen that his sister,  Melinda, died when Andy was sixteen and since Andy's dad wasn't in the picture, he became Andy's parental figure. He talks about how Andy would get in trouble, nothing too big, but really got his act together when Jacob was born. 

Joanne tells Owen she received a call from Andy a month ago and he sounded scared. He told her he was in trouble and not to look for him. He was never heard from after that. O'Brien goes on to say that a year prior Andy joined up with the Honor Dogs. Joanne says she assumed they were nice people but then Andy stopped spending time with her and Jacob. He would come home angry and she would ask him to quit. Andy told her he couldn't quit. Joanne tried to report his disappearance to the police but they wouldn't do anything because of the phone call where he told her not to look for him. 

O'Brien explains the reason he's aligned himself with the Honor Dogs is because he is looking for Andy. Owen suggests that he speak to the FBI but O'Brien says he doesn't trust the federal government. O'Brien asks if Owen knows what the Honor Dogs are planning and he tells him he cannot talk about it. Good move, Owen! O'Brien asks Owen not to tell the FBI about him or his nephew. Oh, and Jacob throws a toy at Owen and it hits his eye. Like father, like son, I guess. 

Carlos and TK speak with Detective Grier (Blythe Howard) regarding Iris being missing. Carlos assures the detective Iris is doing well, mentally but Detective Grier lets him know they found her meds in the abandoned car along with the unsigned divorce papers. TK speaks up about the divorce papers and tells Carlos and Detective Grier that Iris wanted an annulment instead of a divorce. TK tells Carlos that he confronted Iris at her work and says that Iris was fine when he talked to her. Detective Grier leaves. Carlos is very cold to TK and TK assumes he blames him for Iris going missing. Carlo tells him he should've given Iris more time. Hey, Carlos! You're being an asshole right now! Look, I get that you're upset about your bestie/fake-wife/soon-to-be ex-fake-wife being missing but TK does not deserve your ire. Carlos leaves the apartment and I feel really bad for TK.

Owen arrives for his shift at the firehouse the next day and Judd notices his shiner. Before Judd has a chance to press him for details, Owen gets a call from Special Agent Rose Casey (Amanda Schull). She asks him to come into the FBI so that he can go back to the bar to activate the listening device. Owen tells her he is busy and he will see what he can do. 

Grace gets a call from a man named Granger (John Shartzer) who says his girlfriend fell off the side of a cliff. The 126 arrive at the scene and find a woman lying flat down on a rock several feet below the clift. Carlos shows up to the scene saying he received a call from a witness saying she saw a man throw a body over a cliff. While Paul and Marjan repel down to the woman, Carlos grills the boyfriend, Granger who is being very cagey about what happened. Carlos thinks Granger threw Iris off the cliff but his interrogation is put to an end by Detective Granger. 

In perhaps one of the funniest scenes in the history of the show, we discover that the woman who was thrown off the cliff is a sex doll ... named Chrissy. Owen learns that Granger has detachment disorder and that he and Chrissy have been together for 2 years and he has decided to break things off. Nancy, like myself, is confused as to why he would bring Chrissy up to the canyon and toss her off a cliff only to call 9-1-1. Carlos, who is standing next to TK, suggests that Granger can't let go of a bad relationship. Gee, Carlos ... projecting much?!? We then cut to a scene where Nancy is pretending to revive Chrissy. When Chrissy flatlines, Owen apologizes to Granger and asks if he wants to say goodbye to her. Granger tells Chrissy he will love her forever. Hopefully Granger gets all of the medical/psychiatrist help he needs.

Owen goes to see Special Agent Casey and she sees his eye. He tells her he walked into a door. She knows the listening device was never planted. Owen asks how much they heard but Casey gives no indication she heard his conversation with O'Brien. When Special Agent Casey leaves the room to get another listening device, Owen looks at the board set up with information about the Honor Dogs. He sees a photo of whom he believes to be Andy and takes it. He swaps it out with what looks like a menu from a Chinese restaurant. Owen takes another listening device from Special Agent Casey and assures her he will plant it this time and turn it on. 

Grace gets a call from a woman claiming she's been kidnapped. She tells Grace her abductor is in the room with her and that he is asleep. She also tells Grace she is in an abandoned house. When Grace asks for her name, she tells her Iris. Grace reports this information to Carlos. Grace tells him she believes Iris is in Laurel Canyon, and Carlos drives to the location. Grace keeps Iris on the line. She tells Grace the house is boarded. up. Iris tells Grace the guy who took her is awake and the call ends. Cops swarm the abandoned neighborhood and Carlos hears a scream. He goes into a house and finds Iris unconscious. Carlos carries her out of the house fireman-style. This is when my bullshit meter went off. Is Iris trying to get attention from Carlos? Since Carlos didn't look for her when she was homeless and experiencing severe mental health issues, is this her way of making him look for her? 

Detective Grier asks Carlos to come with her and before he leaves, Iris reaches for his hand. He promises her he will come back. The detective tells Carlos the cops have searched inside the house and they didn't find anyone. Carlos appears baffled by this information. Does this mean Iris is ... crying wolf?

Meanwhile, Owen shows O'Brien the photo he took from the FBI and the sergeant confirms it's Andy who is in the picture. December 8th is written on the photo and Jo says she heard from Andy two days after that. Owen tells him that two days after the photo was taken, a shipment of ammonium nitrate was stolen. He also suggests that Andy was working with the FBI. O'Brien mentions that he's heard some of the Honor Dog members talk about a place called The Farm which may be where they train. He says no one can get inside unless they have a brand. 

Carlos goes to Iris in the hospital along with Detective Grier. They want Iris to retrace her steps. Iris says she was looking for one of her residents at the shelter when she was grabbed at the homeless camp she used to frequent and was forced into a car. She describes the man who took her as tall, plain, and creepy with a mustache and he has a messed up hand. He didn't do anything to Iris and told her she wasn't ready yet. She says that he looked at her like she was a painting. He put a mattress against the door they were in and just sat and looked at her. When he fell asleep, she used his phone to call 9-1-1. She also says the reason she has the gash on her head is because the man woke up and smashed her against a wall. She didn't see him leave the house. Carlos and Detective Grier leave Iris's room and the detective expresses her doubts regarding Iris's story. 

Owen and O'Brien go to the bar. O'Brien goes to plant the listening device and Owen plays pool with a guy named Turner (Scott Peak). The more they play, the drunker Turner gets. After losing multiple games, Owen tells Turner is an excellent marksman. Turner challenges him and tells him he knows a place where they can go shooting. 

Tommy talks to TK in the bunk room at the firehouse. TK tells her Carlos is at the hospital with Iris. He tells Tommy there may not have been a guy who kidnapped her. TK tells TOmmy they had a drone up and no one else came out of that house. Tommy talks about mental illness and how it can be triggered. TK thinks he set Iris off. I really hate that TK is feeling this way and Carlos isn't doing shit to make him feel better. Do better, Carlos!!!

Carlos sees Iris again. By the way, I'm super surprised Carlos is able to talk to Iris like this because wouldn't this be a conflict of interest? Anywho, Iris doesn't think Carlos believes her and he tells her he believes she believes what she experienced. He tells her they couldn't get anything off the burner phone she used to call 9-1-1. Iris assures him she's been taking her meds and doing much better. She tells Carlos she can still smell the guy's scent. She describes it as flowery detergent. She says she can still see his face. Iris starts to doubt herself and her sanity. 

Owen and O'Brien accompany Turner to The Farm and I found it funny that the password to get into the compound is 1-2-3-4-5. Turner takes them to a shooting range. The guy is drunker than a skunk but is an excellent shooter. Turner eventually passes out and Owen and O'Brien go investigating. They notice the place is the same as the place in the photo of Andy. They find a HUGE arsenal of weapons as well as 14000 pounds of ammonium nitrate. Owen meets with Special Agent Casey in a parking garage and tells her he's been to The Farm. She tells him about him she knows he stole the photo and he's taken to headquarters. Special Agent Casey said the FBI raided The Farm and found no ammonium nitrate. Owen learns that O'Brien is a founding member of the Honor Dogs. Owen tells her he's told O'Brien a lot of stuff. Special Agent Casey tells Owen he was played by O'Brien and lost.  

Carlos returns to the house where Iris was being held captive. Before he heads inside, he calls TK. TK asks how Iris is and Carlos has said not great. He then tells TK not to wait up for him and that he's staying with Iris. Carlos puts on gloves and goes inside the abandoned house. He finds some removable wall panels inside the closet of the room where Iris was found. He goes down into a creepy ass crawlspace. He ends up in another house in the neighborhood and is hit in the head by the guy who abducted Iris. End of episode.

This was an interesting episode. The stuff involving Owen got ratcheted up to a thousand and I'm curious to see how this Honor Dogs wraps up. The question I have is: who can be trusted? The FBI or O'Brien. O'Brien was definitely in that photo of the founding members of the Honor Dogs, but perhaps the group didn't always have ties to white nationalism. It does beg the question, if O'Brien was a founding member of the Honor Dogs, how did Andy hide his involvement from him? Did O'Brien leave and come back. These are questions that definitely need answering.

Then we have our Carlos storyline. I'm still iffy on Carlos being married to Iris even though he is planning on marrying TK. Plus, I'm not a fan of how Carlos acted in this episode. I don't think he has a right to get mad at TK when he hasn't been honest with TK during the entirety of their relationship when it comes to Iris. I said it last reaction and I will say it again - TK Strand is a way better man than me. The way Carlos was cold to him throughout the episode was so unnecessary. I get that Carlos is worried about Iris and wants to do right by her but that shouldn't be at the expense of hurting the person he claims he loves and who loves him. Also, Carlos reminded me a lot of Athena from the OG series when he went into the abandoned house at the end. I get why Athena goes off alone a lot. She has mentioned before that she likes being able to go where she needs to go and we rarely see her partnered with someone. Carlos actually does have a partner and if he was going to go investigating, I think he should've had some backup. So, of course, he gets bonked on the head with a shovel. 

It looks like in the next episode titled "Abandoned" we are going to learn that Iris was not crying wolf. There is, in fact, a man, tall, plain, and creepy with a mustache who has him abducted. According to the preview I saw, apparently this man is supposed to be a serial killer. Now obviously they are not about to kill off a beloved main character but this is yet one more horrible thing that TK and Carlos are going to have to contend with. I guess the fans got their wish when they asked that Carlos get to experience some of the trauma that is often hoisted onto TK. Be careful what you wish for! Well, that's all I have for this reaction. I really liked this episode. Of the three we've gotten so far, episode 2 is my favorite. With that said, this season is keeping me on the edge of my seat so I hope we keep this momentum going forward. Until next time ...

Roster Engineering MBA

The goal of this off-season should be to assess the market at positions of need then practically find players that fit your culture. Last year the question was should the Titans be trying to retool or rebuild? I said they should re-establish,  meaning identify, what it means to be a Titan. This year is about rebooting. Every position, every limiting belief, every inefficient way of execution. 

View the 2024 free agency cycle as the draft before the draft. Truly get guys that you want to grow with. After my studies some positions will be barren for a couple of years at the very least, so with money to spend, getting your type of guys to invest in long-term would be ideal. Planning and strategy is my strength. It's not perfect but it's valuable and functional. 

You had better get YOUR guy(s) at these positions this off-season. QB, TE, C, DT, Safety, K, P. Also save your money and don't sign large WR contracts because there's depth in the draft and volume in the years to come. If you must pay up, get yourself a few good veteran corners. These are working off of predominantly Titans centric evaluations of course. So If you have enough draft capital, getting a rookie corner or two is fine. 

For this year in free agency you shouldn't overcommit to replacement level talent during the 1st or 2nd wave. Roster cuts during training camp and in season acquisitions can supplement that. I'll be very big on 3rd and 4th wave pickups to fill out the roster.

My Positional Potency™️ grades will be introduced this Off-Season Gameplan (OGP) as well and you'll see forecasting at it's finest per usual. Be aggressive with player archetypes that won't be available later. Titans should come with open wallets but be good stewards of their newfound cap space. 

Here's a friendly and annual reminder that free agency comes BEFORE the draft. 

Remember, Free Agency is a two way street. Interest meets Finances. This model shows how to MAXIMIZE this season's pool of talent for the year ahead. Being present in the moment and only squinting at the future. No, you don't mortgage your future in one season but you do try to form the best roster possible, all while keeping in mind the schedule and possible pitfalls. Drafting however, is the purest form of talent acquisition. Therefore it is the foundation in which dynasties are made.

"1st Wave:  I was high on Mason Rudolph coming out of the draft in 2018 and have been an advocate for getting him on the Titans for awhile. It's good to see that come into fruition. Mason is one of the best deep ball throwers in the game. His rainbow shots are a thing of beauty and he possesses the ability to stand in the pocket and deliver strikes while taking hits. This isn't necessarily a world beater signing but I like it. Tennessee got themselves a competent backup with the ability to win games in a pinch. In a year I dubbed as the Year of the Quarterback you're going to want to attain and develop guys that are fits as well get security at the position." Edwards will provide that short yardage domination needed to keep the chains moving and to score touchdowns in the redzone. But he's not just a 3 yards and a cloud of dust type of runner he can also give you some explosive plays in the run and pass game. "1st Wave: Unless you have the draft capital you had better get you a starting caliber dual threat TE in this free agency cycle. The 2024 draft has some guys but it may be difficult to get YOUR guy if you don't have the draft capital. So I went with Noah Fant. Fant has one of the better top end speeds at the position in the league and when you pair that with his size and catch radius you have a more than sufficient chess piece to your offense. He's not a road grader in the run game just yet but has improved every year he's been in the league. A fresh start would do him well in a more diverse passing attack." Trade Synopsis

QB Malik Willis to the Baltimore Ravens for a 7th RD pick 228 Overall 

The Chargers are also an option here. The Titans took Malik Willis with the 86th pick of the 2022 draft when he was talked up to be a Top 20 selection. He was thought to be a project then and still is in some ways. After a failure from the coaching staff to adapt to his skillset or even come up with a competent package, Willis is left underdeveloped. Not much effort was put forth to use a unique skillset in order to ignite an otherwise stale offense. He clearly struggled in the traditional scheme that the Titans ran. The 2023 preseason was a breakthrough but didn't have enough reps as the QB2 for the rest of the season even after QB1 Ryan Tannehill got injured.

A fresh start in a scheme that highlights his strengths would be ideal. He needs to be able to put his athleticism on display and have an organization that buys into his development. The Titans were in a tough spot. The previous coaching regime was in win now mode, when as an organization they needed to review where they truly wanted to go. A lot of solid young players were caught in that mess. 

The fit in Los Angeles is good, now that Greg Roman is there but the Ravens have no backup that took significant NFL snaps last season. Josh Johnson is close to retiring and Malik Cunningham will be in Year 2 and spent time as a part-time WR in New England. 

Acquiring a late round pick allows the Titans to select coveted players that may have been college free agents otherwise.

WR Treylon Burks to the Dallas Cowboys for a 7th RD pick 244 Overall 

The Jets are also an option here. Treylon Burks feels like a forced draft pick that was made because the previous front office didn't want to pay a Top 5 WR in the league. Tennessee needed to replace that skillset with someone they thought was similar. When in reality he was a big slot/gadget WR.

The Jets make sense because they need a bigger WR to add to their corps. The Cowboys make sense for similar reasons. They're cap strapped with needs at RB, OL, DB and need talent at WR especially after Michael Gallup was released. Trading Burks would be something ideal for both parties. 

Acquiring a late round pick allows the Titans to select coveted players that may have been college free agents otherwise.

Practice Squad Signings: 

QB Will Grier - I wasn't as high on Grier when he came out of West Virginia in 2019 but he's developed into a solid backup. Grier has the mobility and arm ability to move the ball down the field. He should push somebody's QB room this season for a QB3 role. I also like Tanner Mordecai here.

RB Patrick Taylor - Taylor is a big physical RB with finishing ability. I also like Montrell Johnson Jr. here.

RB Boston Scott - Scott is a multi-dimensional scatback with the ability to create explosive plays as a runner or pass catcher.

WR David Moore - Moore was in my 2021 OGP before and was a pleasant surprise to most when they saw him making plays in Tampa Bay last year. I expect him to go unnoticed again and be an ideal stash on the practice squad. Physical for his size and a downfield playmaker.

WR Chase Claypool - You will definitely have to vet this player's commitment to football but after that process, you'll have a big-time reclamation project on your hands. If he can find a role as a big bodied, combact catcher that gets after it as a run blocker he could be a story to watch next season. I also like Jesse Matthews here.

WR Steven Sims Jr. - Sims Jr. is someone I observed that had a knack for returns. When the Titans were searching for a returner he was on my radar. Turns out he stuck with Houston and had a punt return for a touchdown in their playoff game vs. Baltimore. Sims Jr. is an instinctive runner after the catch and a versatile pickup for any practice squad. I also like Isaiah Wooden here.

TE Brycen Hopkins - Hopkins quietly put together a solid Year 4 campaign with the Rams. He'd be an excellent pickup to try and develop even more. I also like Maleak Bryant here.

OT Justin Skule - Skule has starter experience but has been dinged up. He has the size and skillset to continue to push the low depth chart and compete.

OT Theo Benedet - Workable traits and frame. Benedet needs to add weight however and get stronger. I like the upside of a signing like this.

OG Calvin Throckmorton - Throckmorton was a late season add in 2023 and it would be smart to bring him back on the practice squad to continue to develop but this time with new coaches. 

OG Phil Haynes - Big, physical guard that needs to stay healthy and take coaching to take his game to the next level.

DE Rasheem Green - Green could be a situational pass rusher on a team today. But I think he'll be one of those guys that will be ignored until the 3rd or 4th wave of free agency then be undervalued. He's a steal to have because he can effect a game when he's used the right way.

LB Mykal Walker - Most draftniks’ favorite ‘sleeper LB’ a couple of seasons ago, Walker has been somewhat of a journeyman here recently. He'd be a good get to be able to coach him to better use his athleticism and physicality at the point of attack.

CB James Pierre - Pierre needs to regain his confidence and develop some consistency in his game. He has good size and traits.

K Cole Murphy - Titans need a young K to develop behind Nick Folk. There's a handful of guys out there. Murphy has upside. I like Taylor Vizcaino here as well. 

P Pressley Harvin III - Harvin III has been inconsistent recently as a player but stashing his skillset as a contingency plan while Ryan Stonehouse gets back to optimum health would be smart. PHIII has the ability to be a starter. Tyler Zentner is in play here as well.

2024 Forecast and Summary 

The Titans play the AFC East and NFC North this year and play the fourth place teams from 2023 in other divisions. Those teams are the Washington Commanders, Cincinnati Bengals and Los Angeles Chargers. 

The AFC South has been upgraded this past season. Houston looks to be a powerhouse. Nick Caserio is dealing. Jacksonville and Indianapolis are on the ropes but still a competent out on any given Sunday. There is a need to establish dominance. 

This season should be approached with a frugal approach to positional spending and paying up for high-end impact players. The trenches will need to be filled with strong and athletic players. 

Culture will be vital. With a new coaching staff it will be imperative that there is buy in at some point. Veteran players can assist with that. Changing personality types and expectations can be a process but most importantly you have to be aware of who you bring in to help administer the New Way. 

From a culture perspective there could be mixed results based on M.O. and from a play style perspective, leaning too much on data or pass happy tendencies could cause problems. But overall this is a much needed growth process for all parties that will lead to the inevitable. Adaptation or extinction.

I've made this team as competitive as I could while building a foundation that aligns philosophically with what I believe wins in this league. And that's with play style variance™️ on offense and disciplined chaos™️ on defense.

Let Me Introduce You: International Woman's Day Special

I haven’t done this in a while but in honour of international women’s day I’m bringing it back for just one day! It’s been years but my point is still valid, in fact, The expansion of foreign media in recent years means exposure to more female leads and characters, Not to mention History, mythology, powerful female characters have always been there. It’s not new. So those who dismiss women as something they never see at the center in film or those who complain there’s a girlboss epidemic, do not engage. You all need to buy brains.

And trans women are included because I don’t care for TERFs.

There are so many different examples I could use including every action woman of Pam Grier’s career or really early characters like Johanna Oakley [The String of Pearls aka the original Sweeney Todd] but I’m going to settle for these lassies who actually had posts in the works that I never got around to.

Ginger from Chicken Run

essentially an animated great escape focusing on forced breeding with a truly chilling villain [who is also female] remains an all-time favorite. With the release of the pleasantly surprising sequel Dawn of the Nugget, I would like to mention Ginger, who remains a complete rebel without fail, even when she’s desperate and disillusioned, she gets an idea and it’s back to work. Talk about a determined freedom fighter. Solitary cannot keep this bird down.

The Powerpuff Girls

The icons. Sugar spice and everything nice [unless Buttercup is being a little shit] created by a monkey and raised by the ultimate daddy scientist. These girls grow up while fighting evil and stay adorable while doing so. Of course, I’m a total Bubbles. What can I say about these heroes that haven’t already been said?

Yona of the Dawn

this gem starts off as a spoiled sweet brat whose life turns into a saga of betrayal and redemption as she becomes a fugitive in her own land and has to learn to exist outside four walls. Her gradual acceptance of her family’s shortcomings and her own journey into a leader from a distraught fallen princess is fascinating to see.

Joyce Byer's

Mama Bear made woman. Dare you to contradict. This woman lives for her kids and not even her dead-end job or useless police or shifty as hell scientists will stop her. even if you think she’s crazy she doesn’t give a shite. DO. NOT. MESS. WITH. HER. KIDS. plus she’s played by Winona Ryder. Icon and one of my favorite actresses.

Gracie Hart

Miss Congeniality ages better and better with every passing year as does its lead character. Who actually does feel like a real person seriously give this woman social media and tell me I’m wrong. She starts off as dismissive and scornful to the contestants of a beauty pageant she’s investigating and then becomes more understanding and protective of them all without losing her badass edge. I would SO watch a crossover with her and Elle Woods.

So there you have it. Some great female characters that differ in personality from different pieces of media. Should I bring this series back? It won’t be daily like before but I could squeeze one in weekly. Contemplate it while you enjoy International Women’s Day.
