rain - thalia trevelyan & kallian tabris
thalia gets lost in the rain, kallian finds her. a platonic kiss for @nirikeehan & oc kiss week 🥰 i hope i did your girl justice!
rated g, no warnings. 967 words. divider credit.
Tumblr media
The Hero of Ferelden sat on a stool not too far from the bed, her elbow propped up casually on the dresser next to her, and sitting in a manner Thalia knew her teachers would call “unladylike” until they were blue in the face.
She was everything Thalia could have imagined and more.
“Thank you so much for rescuing me, Warden-Commander Tabris,” she stammered, aiming for a calm air of quiet respect that she was most certainly not achieving.
The Hero had found her in the torrential rain, soaked to the bone and utterly lost. Thalia had been all but carried to a small, modest cottage; had clean clothes and woolly blankets thrown at her; and a warming bowl of stew plonked into her hands with barely a word said. It wasn’t until she’d said that the Inquisition would be grateful for the help that the Warden had said who she was, a little surprised herself that the wet cat she'd rescued had been Inquisitor Trevelyan.
That was when Thalia had frozen, mentally stumbling over the information over and over in her head.
“Oh don’t worry about it.” The Hero waved her hand, oblivious. “What were you doing out here on your own, anyway?”
Ah. The crux of the matter. Thalia felt some warmth return to her cheeks.
“I… got separated from my party,” she answered cautiously, quickly running through what next she could say. Leliana’s warnings about what type of person the Hero was were difficult to heed when the real thing was right in front of her. “We were looking for you.”
Warden-Commander Tabris stared, her face easily betraying all the emotions those words brought up for her. Her eyes widened and her lips parted in surprise at first. Then, her jaw clenched, her brow furrowed, and she frowned. Thalia’s heart hammered against her chest as hard as the rain outside, and she thought that perhaps she should have listened to Leliana after all.
“Didn’t you get my letter? That schematic I sent you?”
The Hero of Ferelden was annoyed.
“Y-yes, and we are incredibly grateful, it’s just that—”
“I don’t know anything about Corypheus. I cannot help you.”
Thalia had annoyed the Hero of Ferelden.
“Of course, Warden-Commander, I… apologise, I merely wished to—”
“You don’t think I’ve given enough?” The Hero of Ferelden snapped.
“Yes! You have! I’m sorry, I just… I don’t know what I’m doing,” Thalia blurted out, her eyes quickly stinging, her bottom lip trembling. Before she knew it, the tears were spilling over, and she was cursing her lack of composure and blaming the rain that had nearly given her pneumonia.
Warden-Commander Tabris straightened in her seat, the anger draining from her face and instantly being replaced with guilt.
“I’m sorry,” she muttered, but it only served to make Thalia feel worse somehow as she openly sobbed. She wiped her eyes and cheeks as best she could, trying to breathe slowly and calm herself, but it just wouldn’t work.
“I'm sorry, Warden-Commander,” she sniffled.
Silently, the Hero rose and sat next to her, the old bed creaking loudly.
“My name’s Kallian. And you don’t have to apologise.”
Thalia’s eyes widened as Kallian put an arm around her, squeezing her shoulder reassuringly.
“I’m just old and bitter,” the Warden muttered. “It’s taken longer than I expected to find what I’m looking for and I took it out on you. Forgive me, Inquisitor.”
“My name is Thalia,” she smiled wetly, turning to face Kalllian. “And please, you saved the world. You’re a Grey Warden, the Grey Warden… I think you’ve earned the right to be…”
“Selfish? Rude? A prick?”
Thalia laughed, the tension in her shoulders fading away as Kallian grinned at her.
“Besides,” she continued. “You’re saving the world too, aren’t you? That’s what I heard, anyway. I think you’re doing just fine.”
“I have so many people behind me. Really, I’m just a figurehead,” Thalia insisted, shaking her head self-deprecatingly.
“What, and you think I took down hordes of darkspawn and the Archdemon itself all on my own?” Kallian asked, raising an eyebrow. “I had the King, an Antivan Crow, a witch, an ancient golem, your Spymaster, the Arishok, a Senior Enchanter, a dwarven warrior, and the best war hound in all of Ferelden at my side pretty much every step of the way. And that’s not to mention the armies of mages, and dwarves, the Denerim fighting for their lives… honestly, it would take hours to list everyone who helped me. And I couldn’t have done it without them, not a chance.”
“...Did you say the Arishok?”
“Yeah, but my point is… I am not the singular Hero. I never was. And I’ll let you in on a secret, Thalia.” She lowered her voice conspiratorially. “I had no idea what I was doing either.”
It drew another little laugh from Thalia, and she felt warm from more than just the fire in the corner of the room.
“C’mere,” Kallian chuckled, pulling her into a firm hug. “You’re doing great.”
Thalia relaxed into it, lifting her arms to return the embrace. For someone so strong and large in reputation, Kallian was small, and it felt more like hugging a big sister than a living legend.
“Thank you,” she whispered, her hands tightening a little as she was filled with emotion again. But it was different this time, and she let herself close her eyes and just be held.
“Right!” Kallian interrupted the moment, roughly planting a kiss on the side of her head before pulling away. “Rest up. I’ll take you back to your camp in the morning, and I’ll keep an eye out for anything that could help you.”
“Thank you, Warden— Kallian,” she smiled.
It was good to know that the Hero lived up to her name.

for @dadrunkwriting
Rated T: For semi-graphic depictions of the cleaning of dead animals, ~750 words
Carrion | By Exalted_Dawn
“Glad to see you haven’t become food for the vultures.” Thalia started, her head snapping up from where she had buried it between her knees, cradled in the mud-stained, tattered skirts of her robes. Her face was sticky with dirt and tears, causing the strands of her currant-stained hair to cling to her cheeks and shroud her eyes. Through the shredded curtain of tangles, she could see the deep plum color of the Ansburg robes, torn at the knee by the clean cut of a dagger.
Her lip wobbled and pulled tight, before she dropped her gaze again.
“I see your plan to be found by the Templars has failed.”
Maker, why did she have to come back? It had been three days since she left– she should have been miles away by now. Thalia wasn’t sure whether she should feel relieved or mortified. Though, she was probably too hungry, too tired, to feel much of either.
She just wanted all of this to come to an end.
“Why are you here?” she whimpered, the weight of her situation coming back to bare.
Rather than an answer, something thudded to the ground at her feet. A dead rabbit.
“I figured you might be hungry.”
She was.
“No- why are you here?” she repeated again. Why would she come back? She should have been long gone. Returned to her clan or whoever was waiting for her. She had made it plenty clear that she had no intention of staying around, and Thalia, she… she wasn’t sure what she wanted. She still wasn’t sure.
But then, she supposed most of her life had been decided for her. Stands to reason that she would not even be able to pick a direction to walk in.
Another wave of emotion surged against her chest, pressing so hard against her ribs that she felt like they might break. Her body ached with it, the need to simply break down and cry. But what good would that do her?
There was a scuffing of earth beside her. “What do you mean? We need to eat, do we not?” The sound of snapping branches shifted to snapping fire. The hollow thunk of wood being piled on wood. A campfire.
Her body was bumped as the woman sat down beside her, grabbing at the rabbit and setting to work cleaning it. Well, if nothing else, now she had a good excuse to keep her face hidden. She wasn’t sure watching a rabbit get skinned would be good for her appetite.
But that begged the question–
“You came back just to feed me? Why didn’t you just keep the rabbit to yourself and keep traveling?” she mumbled. “I believe you said something about me ‘having an obligation to live for myself’...” The sharp snap of that memory echoed in the back of her head. A snarl. A slap. Disappointed, disapproving eyes paired only by a harsh, scarred scowl.
Now though, even the scoff she made sounded empty. As if she could not even be bothered with derision. “We both know there’s no Void-born way you would be able to survive out here on your own. I was the one that pushed you to leave that tower. It would leave a bad taste in my mouth if you were to die out here now.”
Great. So she was just a burden then. And a pointless one at that.
“You would have a better chance of making it back to your family if you just left me…” she grumbled.
“Aye, probably, but I don’t want to deal with the guilt, and over a shem no less. I’ll make sure you live long enough to make it out of these woods and to some city or something. After that, if you want to give up and turn yourself over to the Templars, then that’s your choice. But until then, we’re stuck together. So do me a favor, shem-”
Two more ‘thunks’ against the ground in front of her. One dull and the other metallic.
Thalia lifted her head– it was another rabbit. And a knife.
She, Talenna, was looking at her again. Her eyes were sharp. Expectant. Impossibly, irrationally expectant.
“Make yourself useful,” she said flatly, and turned her attention back to her own half-cleaned rabbit. “You might not care, but I have no intention of becoming carrion for the birds. And for that-”
There was a disgustingly wet tear. Talenna took a leg and stabbed it onto a stick. Ew.
“-we need to eat.”

ehehehhee hi Ammy
😭 share a snippet that will break our hearts
Excuse me while I come out and shoot you in broad daylight with feels via this snippet from my battle of haven WIP lol
Also, Thalia's 'I'm not a child' line is a direct callback to this bit of dialogue from The Ties that Bind:
“I’m sorry,” he said. “You’re not a child anymore. I shouldn’t presume to treat you like one.”
Pravin faced Thalia in disbelief. “Are you absolutely bloody insane?” Thalia recoiled slightly, shifting her weight from one foot to the other. “Like Cullen said, we don’t have other options.” “You’re going to sprint out there and try to strike up a conversation?” “I mean, if I’m the target—” “He’s going to kill you.” Thalia’s mouth tensed. “I’ll find a way out.” “I told you,” Pravin hissed. “I told you these people would twist you to their cause. Force you to follow along. I told you I would not bear to see that happen—” “It’s. My. Choice,” Thalia said, enunciating each word clearly, even as her voice shook. “And my idea. I know what has to be done, and I’m not a child; don’t presume to treat me like one.” Her words stung, knocking him mentally off-kilter; he’d stated as much, reflecting on his treatment of her after a far more innocuous spat. “Thalia—” “I want you to go.” Her face scrunched; she swallowed back tears; righted herself. “I need you to go. I need for you to live through this, alright? Please.” “Don’t concern yourself with me; I can’t let you—” “Please.” Her palm came to rest atop his hand—his right hand, he realized, which was clenching her upper arm. He peeled his grip free and let his arm drop, the pain of the gesture subsiding to a dull ache. He looked at her without seeing her, calling to mind the glow of her smile but a few hours ago: cheerful, delighted, thrilled to experience the world with him. How radiant her future had seemed then, he thought. How much he’d loved her, then. How fanciful he’d been, to assume that her good intentions wouldn’t catch up to her. He took a step back, flexing his fingers, stilling his features. “I’m sorry,” Thalia whispered. He shook his head, his grief sharp as ice. “Maker go with you, Herald.”

First Lines
Thanks for the tag @kittynomsdeplume friend, I see once you out yourself as a writer there is no escape from writers tags!!! (jk jk I love these things TAG ME)
I was tagged to share the first line of my last ten published works or as many as I’m able and to see if there are any patterns!
Ok so in my entire life I published a grand total of 5 works that have WORDS and LINES in them soo:
1. Silence - Rylen/Farie Lavellan, T
It was not uncommon for Rylen to lie awake in his bed late into the night, thoughts racing through his mind.
2. A Hidden Oasis - Rylen/Farie Lavellan, E
The small bundle of food he spread out on the old worn out blanket seemed like too much of a luxury.
3. An Inquisitor Walks Into a Tavern - Cullen Rutherford/Thalia Trevelyan, Cullen Rutherford & Rylen, T
“I see.” Rylen sank back into his seat and raised a tankard full of nice cold beer to his lips.
4. Denerim Royal Library - Alistair Theirin/Miranda Cousland, E
Denerim Royal Library is the national library of Ferelden.
5. Silent miracle - Alistair Theirin/Morgan Cousland, G
They say it was such a loud morning in Denerim.

The DAFF Satinalia Exchange has been revealed! This is the piece I wrote for @nirikeehan, featuring her Inquisitor, Thalia Trevelyan.
With Samson in custody, Thedas clamors for justice. The problem is that after Thom Rainier was pardoned Thedas no longer trusts Inquisitor Thalia Trevelyan to be the one to oversee that justice. On the precipice of victory over her enemy Thalia must once again prove herself in the political arena or risk losing all support, and she must do so without compromising her morals.
Pairing: minor Cullen/Trevelyan Word Count: 3668 Status: Complete Rating: T Important Tags: Politics Content Warnings: brief mention of some squicky body horror stuff regarding red lyrium, mentions of addiction/withdrawal
