It was just a preface..!

Poe tries to hide something from his lover, Ranpo, which obviously has its consequences...

NOTE: Hi everyone!! Everything okay? ^_^ Today’s fic is thank you gift for the amazing @jettori​, not only for the cute, sweet, marvelous gift that he made me, but also for... well... existing (please forgive me, I suck with words in certain contexts 😅)... Jett, I honestly don’t know what to tell you other than ti voglio bene 💚🤍❤️ (I love you /p)

DISCLAIMER: This is a tickle fic, if it's not to your taste I don't suggest you read it

Poe was staring at his writing machine with his head full of thoughts. Should he publish that piece? Or should he trash it and never think about it ever again? Usually when he felt insecure about his work, he'd ask Ranpo, but this time it wasn't possible... his lover was the last person he wanted to show his new writing to.

"Karl... this is a mess," he sighed "what if he doesn't like it? Or what if he does? Maybe he'll be wierded out by me... or maybe he doesn't feel about me the same way I do about him..." he kept considering every possible outcome, even the most absurd ones, while the raccoon stayed there just staring at him.

"I've decided," the writer said in the end "I'll throw it away and that's it" he opened the first drawer of his desk and pulled out a piece of paper, reading it once more before throwing it in the thrash, but while he was about to finish, his plan got interrupted.

"Hi, what are you reading?" oh no... Ranpo entered the room without knocking. Poe instinctively hid the sheet under a pile of other documents just before his boyfriend reached him. "Huh? Nothing, I was just typing... I'm finishing my new short story" the taller guy couldn't have been more grateful that he had actually written something on the paper inside the writin machine, so his lie seemed more credible.

He quickly typed some words and observed his lover gazing at the sheet while munching the cookie in his left hand and then the poky stick in his right one. In the end, the detective sat on the desk and Poe breathed a sigh of relief, his excuse had convinc-

"You're hiding something" Ranpo had the gift of being straightforward, which his lover truly appreciated, but in this case, it made his heart skip a beat in a not-so-positive way. "Huh? What... what do you mean..? I don't know what you're talking about..." Poe tried to keep a neutral face, but it was clear that he was getting antsy.

"See? You're getting nervous and defensive" the shorter guy pointed out "I'm not..! Ahem, I'm not getting defensive... I... I'm just confused... I told you I was typing and it's true" the writer replied after regaining his composure.

"So many typos... that's when I know you're really getting nervous" the older guy didn't really know when Ranpo had snuck up behind him, but now there he was, looking at the document, which was indeed full of misspelled words. "TH-THAT MEANS NOTHING!! I CAN MAKE MISTAKES, TOO" the poor writer exclaimed, saying goodbye to his composure once more.

"Oh but Poe... you never make so many, which means that you're flustered, or nervous... or both" Ranpo smirked while looking at him knowingly. Poe turned his head and blushed slightly at the sight of his lover's smug face.

He didn't have time to even think about how to talk his way out of that situation because two evil hands started squeezing his sides, softly but relentlessly. "Wha-whahahat ahare yohohou dohohoihing?" the American guy managed to ask between his quiet giggles "I have a feeling that this is the best way to make you tell me the truth, and since I'm the one with the gift of super deduction, I won't accept complaints" Ranpo switched from squeezing to scribbling, knowing that a soft touch was way worse for his partner.

"Ihihi'vehe ahahalreheahahady tohohold yohohohou buhuhut yohohou dohohon't behehelieheve meheheee" Poe whined, although he didn't really do any to get away or even move from his chair, which made the green-eyed guy understand that he was enjoying this kind of playful affection, but he decided to save the teasing for later since he had more important things to do at the moment.

"You really think you can fool me... a detective... probably the greatest at my job? I don't even need to use my gift to tell that you're lying" the Japanese guy pinched his lover's lowest rib, which gave him a much better reaction than his sides.

"NOHOHO DOHOHON'T YOHOU DAHAHAREHE" Poe started squirming a bit more in his seat, now that his ribs were targeted "IHIHI TOHOHOLD YOHOHOU THEHE TRUHUHUTH"

"Oh but I do dare, and I won't stop until you tell me the real truth, which you're not doing a very good job to hide, by the way" Ranpo smirked devilishly and clawed at the older guy's ribcage, scratching the bones and digging softly in the grooves.

"IHIHI AHAHAM THAHANK YOHOHOHOU VEHEHERY MUHUHUHUCH" the writer's laughter became more hysterical, which made him slip up, and he knew he was gonna pay for that mistake.

"Ohohoh you messed up big time" if his lover was considering the chance that he was being sincere, that little stunt gave him the proof he needed. So, he stopped holding back and started tickling his ribs all over, taking advantage of the taller guy arching his back to sneak his hands all the way to the back of his ribs.

When Poe's laughter went silent, the shorter guy stopped to give him some time to breathe, but when he asked him what he was hiding, the American guy decided to stay stubborn. Also, while he was recovering, he wrapped his arms around himself to protect his most ticklish spot, which made Ranpo think about a new strategy. 

"I'll give you one more chance to talk before I go for your ears" he stated with a fake solemn tone. "H-how did you know about my ears?!" Poe genuinely didn't recall of telling his lover about that spot, which left him confused and a bit startled.

"You confirmed it just now" Ranpo laughed at how naive his partner could be sometimes, then he started wiggling his fingers close to his ears without really touching them, that way Poe could still see his hands but he didn't know when the tickling was going to begin, which made him shudder in anticipation. 

"Why are you doing this to meHEHEHEHE WAHAHAHAHAIT NOHOHO" when he tried to say something, the detective finally decided to strike, fluttering his fingers on that spot in such a delicate way that it was incredible how much it actually tickled. 

"OHOHOH MY GOOHOHODNEHEHESS YOHOHOU'RE SOHO MEHEHEAHA- EEK!! WAHAHAHAHAIT PLEHEAHAHAHSEEEE" the poor guy lost it when his boyfriend started blowing on his right ear while scribbling on the left one, and that did the trick.

"IHIHI'LL TEHEHELL YOHOHOU!! IHIHIHI'LL TAHAHAHALK PLEHEAHAHAHSE JUHUHUST STAHAHAHAHAHAP" after hearing Poe give in, the green-eyed boy stopped his gentle assault and gave him some time to recover.

"Ihi've hiddehen aha notehehe... I wahas reading" Poe finally confessed while rubbing his ears to get rid of the tingly sensation caused by the ghost tickles. "Good, and where is it?" the detective inquired, curious about the content of said note.

"I... I've teleported it in one of this books," the taller guy bluffed, since he only had time to put it in the pile "b-but I won't tell you which one, no matter what you do, I'll never ta-"

"What do we have here?" asked Ranpo rhetorically while picking up the piece of paper that Karl was giving him... that traitor!! "KARL!! Whose side are you on?!" The writer couldn't believe that his most trusted companion had betrayed him!

"Definitely not yours" his boyfriend replied cackling while giving a little snack to the sneaky raccoon as a reward, then he started reading the piece of paper. It was handwritten, and it was Poe's calligraphy. The taller guy could've tried to stop him, but it would've been pointless, so he just let it happen.

To my marvelous boyfriend Ranpo, who always manages to make me feel understood and supported. I'll always treasure the day when I showed you my work, because look where we are now... I absolutely didn't expect that such a small thing would've led to this honestly.You're a special person to me, if I may say, unique... with your witty remarks, your cheerful attitude, positive like a little kid but never childish, and your infinite love for anything sweet, you managed to make me grow fond of you, to the point that I can say this without a doubt: I love you. (Even if sometimes you're mean to me)

Poe was hiding his beet red face behind his hands when he felt a jab to his ribs that made him jump immediately. His gaze landed on his partner, who was holding the piece of paper as if it was some kind of precious relic with a giddy smile on his face.

"YOU WANTED TO PUBLISH THIS WITH YOUR NEW PIECE?!" the detective exclaimed, losing for a second his laid-back attitude. "Sh-shush..! It was nothing, really..." Poe grumbled, still flustered. "It's not nothing! I'm gonna treasure this for the rest of my life" Ranpo exclaimed happily smiling even wider, if that was possible.

"There's only one thing I don't understand... what do you mean with this?" the green-eyed guy pointed at the line between brackets "I've been nothing but sweet to you"

"You always tease me to get a reaction out of me..!" the taller guy yelled not too loudly while blushing for the umpteenth time "I have no memory of that" Ranpo replied smugly 

"You little..!" Poe was loosing whatever was left of his cool, but the Japanese guy knew he was more flustered than mad "Once you hung a note on the bulletin board at the Agency and there was written 'Poe is a really cute sweetheart'!!"

"Well... that was a top priority communication, and the others had yet to know you, so I only did good. And I wasn't even lying... now if you'll excuse me, Kunikida has been calling me for twenty minutes, I think I have a crime to solve" and with that, the detective rushed cheerfully to the crime scene, hoping to find an intricate enigma.

His lover just watched him go, too embarrassed to say anything, then he looked for his preface... only to realize that Ranpo had taken it away with him since it was nowhere to be found. 

He leaned on the back of his chair, smiling at the thought of having someone so special and that he admired so much in his life and wondering who really was the cute sweetheart between the two of them.

Funny story, when I was working on Seonghwa's fanart, I was almost finished but I was so sleepy. So I was like I will not sleep untill I finish it but I will lay down in bed while making it.
