"For a moment or two I could see nothing, as the shadow of a cloud obscured St. Mary’s Church and all around it. Then as the cloud passed I could see the ruins of the abbey coming into view; and as the edge of a narrow band of light as sharp as a sword-cut moved along, the church and the churchyard became gradually visible. Whatever my expectation was, it was not disappointed, for there, on our favourite seat, the silver light of the moon struck a half-reclining figure, snowy white."

and btw i am a Nina defender but i know that what makes people mad at them is not that they do bad things (because that would wipe out 80% of brsrk characters lol) but because they have no spine and tbh that makes them more volatile and unpredictable than someone like griffith, the king or idk, ive seen people that want to fuck wyald lol.

You ever do something not thinking much of it, but after you do it you realize it was actually like a genius move?
This happened to me with my story: Started it off with a fairly standard conflict; someone wants what Tuon has. But afterward I was like "Oh shit, this is a prime opportunity to show his unyielding guardianship!" But not only that, I also realized that it did a great job at reflecting his flaws and sort of foreshadowing them to the reader
Oh man THATS SO GOOD!! It is so nifty when things work out like that, I hear you- long story relatively short, you betcha.
I had something like that with Aeonian, my Tav for Baldur's Gate 3. One of their quirks that I put down on paper early on was that the places were their muscles would be are rock hard - mainly because of the fact that they're cramming a monolithically sized form's worth of matter down into a humanoid body thats eight times smaller, hence putting a lot of strain on their body as a whole, but also à la a statue for a physical form.
"Statue for a physical form.... death and rebirth themes*......statue made of rock. wait."
Because I cannot escape my hyperfixations, geology was thrown back in my face in whence I was immediately reminded of the ROCK CYCLE:
Tumblr media
-which can be pretty well-applied to the whole death and rebirth thing, not to mention a nifty little guideline as to how their character arc can go as well as Aeonian's place as a story in of themselves (long story, involves statues though) and their tendency to 'erode' themselves per se if it means getting where they need to be. Metamorphosis also links pretty cleanly here too, not only because of the metamorphic rock and its processes but because of parallels between Aeonian (embodiment of death [at sea]) and Thanatos, the greek personification of death, who is usually represented by way of butterflies.
I'm real bad at explaining things so I apologize if none of this made a lick of sense, I promise it's a lot clearer in my head and please feel free to ask for clarity on anything!! this is probably some of my favorite character work I've done so far
*dionysus+being the literal embodiment of death [at sea,] longer story
(Please talk more about Tuon he is SO cool and I talk too much, that's some really good character writing)

I just realized all of the parallels between the Dark Rise series and the Captive Prince series!
Dark haired powerful dude has an enemies to lovers arch with smart bitchy blonde hair dude with a lot of sass. It is literally them in a different font!!!! In this essay i will ....
Damen and Will are practically similar characters. To start with the basics like before they are both very powerful dark haired dudes. One has warrior strength, one was god like in sorcery powers. Everyone wants to be fucked by them and are mad about it and try to kill them because that was their best lay. But they only had eyes for some snarky blonde bitch. Their own siblings tried to murder them each! They both are hiding their identities from their new friends and love interest because their friends will react badly when they figure out who they really are.
Laurent and James are the same person because like I said blonde, bitchy, smart, and sassy. Both were raised by hypocrites who preached to be the saviors of their worlds. One was a prince ruled by his hypocritical uncle, the other was raised by his hypocritical father. Everyone wants to dominate them sexually or for power! Jame's is through the collar, Laurent's is through taking over his kingdom. They both fall for the puppy dog brute everyone ends up liking because he doesn't cross their boundaries, doesn't want to take away their power, and respects them.
Joakste = Visander
Violet = Nickandros
Katherine/ Will's mother = Kastor
Laurent's uncle = Jame's father/ light side
Captive Prince themes: slavery and child SA
Dark Rise themes: religious trauma and child abuse
I have a sneaky suspicion that the third book of the Dark Rise series will have similar plot twists and overall story arch and conclusion in a similar way that fits the narrative of this series. In Captive Prince, we thought Laurent's uncle was a little skeptical until plot twist after plot twist confirms that he orchestrated Damen's family's downfall and the death of Laurent's family. Not to mention he was a child predator. We already learned about the hypocrisy of the knights with the cup and how they are now tied to Sarcean with the shadow. I think we will soon find more bad things the light side has been hiding into how they brought down the "dark king". And lets not forget Laurent was revealed to know Damen's identity at the end of book two, beginning of book three. At the end of Dark Heir James now know's Will's identity and will now be further explored in book 3. It is not all gonna be rainbows and sunshines in book 3 for Dark Rise just like it wasn't in book 3 of Captive Prince. But like in book 1 they hated each other and finally decided to work together for a common goal, and in book 2 they started to fall for each other and would not act on it due to personal reasons. I think in book 3 they are gonna have to work through personal trauma and trust issues before they can truly love one another like they did in Captive Prince book 3.
All in all to say history was written by the winners so thats why each side has different perspectives and until the whole truth comes out like in the other series we will not know true piece for our characters. However, there is hope following those similar story arches because how well it turned out for the other couple. Also remember Damen was Laurent's slave and now the roles have reversed and Will is now James's master. But like Laurent said, Damen could never truly be a slave....
(Sorry this was long but I have been thinking about this all day, I don't know if anyone will read this but let me know your thought!)

Main Hero Trio Potential
Tumblr media
I would like to talk about Izuku, Ochaco, and Shouto and why they deserve better as characters. The theme of Bnha is about true heroes, asking the meaning of hero, and it's a story about how kids should learn to be better heroes, not just as jobs but as real heroes. Deku, Ochaco, and Shouto are characters who are shown their overwhelming empathy abilities, and kindness. The meaning of hero is saving others so it fits, they are naturally kind people who want to people but at the same time, they are more than that. They are not just good kids who always do right. Their characters are more than that and I would like to focus on how the story could/can/should focus on that.
Izuku;
Tumblr media
Izuku is a character who is always shown as a kind kid but his main flaw is he is really obsessed with heroism too much. On one part; he hurts himself and makes him unable to see the flaws of society but on another part; this is the reason he could see Shigaraki as a victim. He didn't just magically see Shigaraki’s childhood/past, his one look was enough for him to want to save. Once again, let's remember that Izuku is the only one who talked about ‘saving the villain’. Not even Todoroki’s or Uraraka’s thought about it. It's just Izuku finding an excuse to save anyone.Another interesting detail is the difference between class 1 A and Deku. Compared to blessed kids or ‘normal’ kids, Deku doesnt seem to belong in there because he is an outcast. He is not golden child, a not lucky kid who was born with an amazing quirk, he is the kid who is constantly rejected and bullied by society and people for something over which he had no control.
Tumblr media
Deku is a lot like league of villains. Shigaraki is literally his foil. Deku is like Toga who obsess and imitate their idols. Both Touya and Deku idolized their abusers and it lead them to self destruction because they feel worthless and they do everything they do feel worthy. Deku is like Spinner who is just ‘normal dude’, bullied for something he had no control. Deku is like Twice, failed by hero system.
The thing about Deku and what makes him different is he is or at least he was written to be challenge against system and even the world. He would save Shigaraki even whole world said No. He would speak up for abuse victims and started questioning the system he blindly followed and even Allmight. I mean remember the time Deku call Allmight out for hiding things. Remember the time he called put Endeavour for what he did at spor festival. Remember the time he asked Allmight what Shigaraki said about not being able to save everyone.
Since Deku is written to be outcast, it makes more sense him to empathize with people like league, just like Batman who had ‘one bad day’ and wants to help people/even villains because they had ‘one bad day’ too, just like him. If Deku’s unable to criticize the system challenged and let him have the great potential he always has would be amazing.
Ochaco;
Tumblr media
Ochaco gets less screentime she deserves, she gets shine whenever she gets involved with Toga and thats the thing. Even though, Ochaco seems to have character flaw (that her repressing her own needs), for some reason, story doesnt focus on it enough. The parallels between Ochaco and Toga is more than just ‘romance’. Ochaco isnt just repressing her romantic feelings, Ochaco is repressing any kind of ‘negative feelings’ to not be burden to others. She displays toxic positivity, she always notice people’s feelings because she pay attention to them all the time because she cares. Story should’ve this part of Ochaco more. Same as Toga who was once just like good, well-behaved girl like Ochaco but had mental breakdown at some point. Its fine to talk about romance and honestly, IzuOcha can be great, if it gets developed properly but their story is more than that and deserve focus on how to neglecting your own needs for others make you end up crazy.
And another interesting detail that wasnt talked enough. Remember when Shigaraki talked about ‘how heroes hurt their families only to help strangers’ and guess who isnt doing that? Ochaco. She always prioritize people around her and honestly, that actually makes her true hero but its hardly mentioned. Deku and many heroes should learn this from her. Ochaco is kind of hero who is also reminding of the humanity of heroes and honestly, let her interact with Shigaraki or Dabi, let Deku interact with league of members more, they have so much potential in there.
Shouto;
Tumblr media
I think the most important part of Shouto’s story and the difference between him and other kids is his goal isnt really getting stronger. Every hero kids focus on trying to be more tough, stronger (well, thats how heroes are raised in this society like soldiers) while Shouto is getting softer because he was already treated like a tool as child so he knows thats not gonna work to be better heroes which is something Deku and Ochaco lacks. Shouto desperately wants to be invidual, just a person with feelings and by focusing on that, thats why he could easiely see the similarities between him and his villain brother. He can speak up his mind more than others. He is a lot more honest and his dark feelings than other characters.
I think this is why his character arc is a lot about inviduality. He is one of the prime examples of why kids shouldnt used as child soldiers and groomed. This could go anywhere. He or other characters who knows his story could speak up about why they shouldnt use kids for this.
Just like Ochaco, Shouto is kind of hero who prioritize family and invidual feelings over strangers, something Deku needs to learn. Tododeku has potential there. Honestly, Shouto and Ochaco would get along well since they have so much in common and Ochaco would realize when he was in trouble and Shouto would know how to show his graditute.
- - -
Tumblr media
Of course, other hero characters and hero students have interesting potential too. Bakugou doesnt need villain foil, his dark foil is Endeavour, he is supposed to learn not to be like him and him learning Todoroki story and being called out for his actions could actually be good start of his change and redemption. He could learn the real meaning of winning and be the one who can turn toxic competition to healthy one.
Aoyama and Deku’s quirkless arc could’ve exlpored with this tratior plot, instead of ‘you being quikless is the reason you can hold one for all’. Iida’s obsessions with rules eventually could turn into questining them so that he can help his friends. And honestly characters like Monoma and Shinsou’s story would be really interesting to explore. And honestly Endeavour’s story makes more sense as villain. Dark heroes like Hawks and even Lady Nagant or corrupted side of hero society hsould’ve explored and adressed more.
- - -
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What getting away of their potential is simply author’s writing story as black and white. Story stopped adressing the social issues which became the biggest fall of almost all charcters. At some point, kid heroes vs adult heroes shouldve happen, not necessarely as fight but as mindset. Deku’s getting bullied because of being quirkless isnt exlpored and since heroes have to be right, heroes lost their character flaws. Deku used as narrative tool to make heroes better, you can tell its not Izuku is talking, it is author’s talking and defending bad heroes. Since Izuku is good person and mc, he always is right so he is used for this purpose. It ruins Deku’s character more than Ochaco and Shouto because Izuku is the kind of character who supposed to empathize with villains side because he was once outcast too.
- The scene Deku rejected Toga only happenned to make Toga-Ochaco interaction. Dabi doesnt need Endeavour’s appravol. We could get a scene where both Toga and Dabi give up on their obsessions to help league and Shigaraki since league is exist in story for a reason.
Ochaco isnt explored well because author doesnt know how to handle female characters. I think Shouto is luckier compared to those two since he is not written to be outcast like Deku so it makes sense for him to not think about saving them and he is not female character so he gets better fihgting scene and more screen times but his character is not explored and his feelings is not explored enough, despite being one of the main characters. Other than this, someone else already mentioned this before, i think Shouto’s liking and worrying abour Endeavour doesnt make sense. I mean, how could you care about someone whom you doesnt have one good memory with? I didnt think about this before but they are actually right. I always saw Dabi as proof that Shouto still secrelt despises his father but respressing it because of system and eventually confronting it which would be better writing, in my opinion. Unfortunately, story started to focus more on power and less on characters.
Tumblr media
Well, we dont know how story will goes or end up but at least, i really wanted to talk about their great potential as heroes. Especially Deku, Ochaco and Shouto. Their characters is actually interesting and they have great potential both as heroes and characters. I also want those three to hang out together with villains at the end.

sorry if this comes off as rude or in bad faith but i'm interested in hearing your reasons on why you dislike saiouma? again, not trying to be rude, i'm just interested since it's one of the big popular ships and i think you have interesting danganronpa takes
@crowssoul2 sent another ask with the same idea, so allow me to respond to them both here instead of trying to cut an essay in half.
Nah! You didn't seem rude at all! I am more than happy to overanalyze Danganronpa, since I love Danganronpa to death. I am just as happy to be asked what I thought they failed @ then to be asked what I liked. Hell, I'll even enjoy civil discussion about why you disagree with my takes. (except maybe my take on the great Chihiro discourse, since bystanders always get pissy at that one)
Also, to preface this, this is a ship and let ship blog. I'm glad all you Saiouma shippers are having fun. Also, I love all the ship art you make. If you enjoy what we got, this isn't a personal attack. Honestly, I wish I were one of you since there's so much more content that way.
I feel like I dislike Saiouma because their canon dynamic went against the themes of the work. Kokichi, as a character, represents lies, which is one of the major themes of Drv3. (The same way Makoto represents hope and Junko represents despair) This seems really obvious to say, but is important to my point. A characters relationship with Kokichi should mirror their relationship with lies.
A good example of this done right is Kaito. Listen, his writing irks me, but his relationship with Kokichi is one of my favorite things about him. (Still can't get behind Oumota bc of Kaito's personality, but that doesn't mean I dislike the foils OR the shippers)
Kaito pretends to hate lies, as heroes should. But his heroic personality is in fact, a lie he tells. Not out of malice, but because that's who he wants to be. (Think Kaito:Hero as Gundam:Dark God) He lies to protect people, and hide his illness. As a result, he's willing to work with Kokichi to... protect Maki, conceal his identity, (which includes hiding his illness) and from a certian POV, be a hero! It makes perfect sense.
Another good example of this is Maki. She hates Kokichi, because she hates lies. Her hatred of Kokichi is actually tied to him revealing one of her lies, a lie that was causing her quite a lot of stress. But... she also directly benefits from Kokichi. He saved her life. Unrelated tangent (sarcasm), what was revealed to be a lie in Ch6? Her feelings for Kaito. Let me rephrase that sentence: She hates LIES but she also directly benefits from them (her feelings for Kaito improving her mental health)
I wish that theme carried over into other characters the same way it did for those two. There are some other parallels I can draw (Ryoma liking Kokichi to an extent, Kirumi playing tag with him) but those two are the most obvious and explicit.
So its sad that characters with a complicated relationship with lies don't also have a complicated relationship with Kokichi, the embodiment of lies.
Himiko lives a lie. Lying is needed for her job. But her lies almost got her killed in chapter 2, and Tenko going along with her lie doesn't help. How does this reflect in her interactions with Kokichi? It doesn;t.
Kaede lied to us, the motherfucking audience. Honestly, thats arguably just as impressive as Kokichi ever pulled. What is her relationship with Kokichi? Kokichi acts sort of like a mentor figure to HER in the tunnels, and stands up against her. I like that, but give that plot beat to someone else. (Kaito makes the most sense, but give it to Tenko since I love her.)
Danganronpa itself is a lie, a work of fiction. And Tsumugi is obsessed with it.
In fact, this applies to the v3 casts dynamic with Kokichi as a whole. Almost everyone dislikes and distrusts Kokichi, despite the big reveal of being liars themselves. I'd write it as "everyone pretends to hate Kokichi (lies), but actually don't mind him that much. However, they think everyone else hates Kokichi so they go along with the group." to foreshadow the big reveal that they themselves are lies told by Tsumugi.
And Shuichi suffers from this the most.
Shuichi's Ch1 arc is summed up by "Shuichi learns to face the truth for the first time with that case, and stops averting his eyes." In other words, on the Truth vs Lies scale, Shuichi begins the series aligned with LIES.
The rest of the game shows Shuichi gradually becoming a paragon of Truth to go against Kokichi's lies- ONLY FOR IT TO BE REVEALED IN CH6 THAT HE HIMSELF IS A LIE.
That he is, a fictional character and a pawn in someone elses game. It then becomes a Schrodinger's cat on the alignment scale I mentioned earlier. Was Shuichi's journey to the Truth end of the scale fake or not?
The game settles upon a hesitant no at the end of it, (I disagree, since the games mechanics tell a different story) when Shuichi ventures out into the world with the other survivors to find the truth upon whats out there.
Thats a HECK of a complicated relationship with lies. It should equal a heck of a complicated relationship with Kokichi, right? WRONG.
The canon Saiouma dynamic is basically
"Kokichi likes and teases Saihara, while Shuichi is annoyed by Kokichi until his death, when he gradually begins to come around. Despite this, Kokichi (and the lie mechanic) is surprisingly helpful in trials"
(actually the localization changed this quite a bit, but I'm going off the English version since this is what I actually played. That being said, its a fascinating topic that you should look into if you're as obsessed as I am.)
While the fanon is more akin to:
"Shuichi gradually gets drawn in by Kokichi and learns to accept his quirks."
(maybe shippers will disagree with me about those dynamics, since again, not my cup of tea.)
Meanwhile a Saiouma dynamic I can get behind is:
"Shuichi is drawn in by Kokichi (lies), and feels a sort of magnetism to him. But he knows it isn't a good idea, and he knows it isn't right. Kokichi's feelings are unclear at first due to his nature, but it turns out he has a love-hate relationship with Shuichi (truth). He'll rely on him sometimes, but rebuff him at others with seemingly no logic from his end."
In other words, I'd do a semi-reversal of the canon dynamic.
NOTE: I am not saying I'm a writing genius or anything. Hindsight is 20/20, and I'm sure if Kodaka could magically remake his games he'd stomp my rewrite to the ground.
You asked why I dislike it, and that's my explanation. But please allow me to go a step further and speculate why things are this way.
At about the same time you sent me your ask, my good friend Crow sent me this:
"I don't like Saiouma because well Komahina is exactly what the black romance should be while Saiouma is just feels like another Shuichi ship. Do you get my point?
Shuichi and Hajime is entirely different characters while Komaeda and Kokichi different af too like, they can't hit the Komahina dynamic like they intended to do, this is why Saiouma is just another Shuichi ship while Komahina is THE SHIP.
If you want to do a homoerotic Shuichi ship who would be the next Komahina you shouldn't do that with Kokichi at all, maybe Rantaro? But Rantaro isnt work well too like there is no Komaeda for him to work the Komahina. Saiouma felt poorly executed idea of a black romance, if I need to be honest Oumaede would be more fitting for the Komahina dynamic despite Kaede is just pov character.
So yeah there is no Komahina in drv3 because they tried to play the same tropes with very different characters and very different stories, I even felt more interested in Saihoshi despite Ryoma only been around 2 chapters than Kokichi. That is the problem in here"
I felt like I can't answer one of these asks without referencing what I said in the other ask, so I just both answered them both together. (no hard feelings?)
In case you haven't read Homestuck (wise call, honestly) Black romance is basically non-sexual hatefucking. Usually, there's an undertone of mutual respect, but not always. Felt like that context was important.
Komeada and Kokichi ARE different characters. From a narrative standpoint, Komeada completely turns existing themes like Hope and Talent into complex issues in the Drverse, while in THH they were pretty black and white. Meanwhile, Kokichi's introduction is the introduction to the theme of truth vs lies.
In other words (Makoto is to Nagito (and later to Hajime and Izuru) as Kokichi is to Shuichi) The second takes the theme from the first, and massively expands on it! ...Despite Shuichi and Kokichi being in the same game.
Despite this, the reason people think they are similar is because Kokichi piggybacks too hard on Nagito and Komahina's success.
What does Nagito have in common with Togami, other than being an antagonistic force. Not much, actually! Togami fucked up a corpse while Nagito fucked up his own body, and that distinction is all that needs to be said I think.
Togami would look down upon Nagito if they ever met, and Nagito'd be into that.
What does Kokichi have in common with Nagito?
They want to make an unsolvable murder in which poison was involved and they got someone to kill them.
They both have a one sided crush on their protagonist, that the protagonist doesn't think exists. (Kokichi confessed, but perks of being a chronic liar)
They both are the MVP in almost every trial they are in, with one notable exception for each of them. Thats... kind of a lot, actually! I do think they are noticeably different characters, especially on a thematic level, but I can see why people notice that. I can also see why people would find that bad! Nagito was the star of Dr2, hands down. If you were one of the few people that isn't a total Nagito simp, then a very simmilar character getting screentime might be annoying since you have Nagito fatigue from the last game. and if you are a Nagito simp, then Kokichi will likely never be his own dude with so much in common. You'll see him as a lesser Nagito and want him back. I agree with Crow when he says "Saiouma just feels like another ship. I found it hard to articulate why I feel that paradoxically feels like a rip-off of another ship I liked, but also had no bite to it. And then it hit me. Until Chapter four, Kokichi never did anything that warranted Nagito levels of hatred. (of course, this is entirely subjective. I hate Kaito pretty much for being annoying and fitting into tropes I dislike without commenting on it. If you think this is enough to hate Kokichi, power to you!) By the end of chapter one of Dr2, Nagito:
Attempted to 1st degree murder a fan-favorite character, with a deliberately confusing and unsympathetic (at this point in time) motive to do so.
Goaded another character (that most fans hated, but still) into committing that murder FOR him. The only time we ever saw that level of insanity was Celeste, and Teruteru is no Hifumi in terms of gullibility. (Celeste had plot armor anyway.)
Sat back and monologues while everyone's ass was on the line. If Hajime and the others voted wrong, everyone would have died.
Showed NO remorse over any of it. Seemed to enjoy it.
This one is more meta but: he shows despair eyes, which previously were only seen on the big bad of the first game. Characters have every reason to hate the guy. Soda and Nekomaru were absolutely correct in taking him out, and I'd argue that you should maybe go father by putting him in a public area and gagging his mouth unless it's mealtime. Meanwhile, by chapter three, Kokichi has:
Stood up to Kaede in the tunnels, which most students agree was the right call.
Showed emotions over Rantaro's death, but due to his lying they can't be sure if they were genuine.
Was civil (if a bit wierd) to Kaede right before her execution.
Bullied Kiibo. Yes, bullying is- bad but look me in the eye and tell me its worse than murder. You can't.
Shared the motive videos in the insect meet and greet. This is the major strike against him, but its reasonable to assume he did this with good intentions.
While doing that, tortured them with bugs when it wasn't really needed for the plan to work.
(okay, this one didn't actually happen and I will die on this hill, but the main group thinks it did so I'm counting it) Tricked Gonta into helping with his plans.
Saved our asses in the second trial.
Saved our asses in the post-trial portion of chapter 2
Not joined a cult that was forming in our school. Also did not stop Gonta from joining the cult, which doesn't point to a pattern of controlling behavior from Shuichi's POV.
Was key in getting to Angie's body. Pun intended.
Helped out during the seance.
While arguably not the MVP in trial 3, he still contributed a great deal. Do those lists of crimes seem equal to you? It takes Kokichi 3 chapters to do something that is, at most, Hiyoko level. Maybe Byakuya level, but thats pushing it. Yet, the characters treat Nagito and Kokichi with about equal annoyance and disdain. The v3 cast, of course, doesn't know that Nagito exists. But we, the players, know. Its like we got prologue Nagito for almost four chapters, but prologue Nagito was also kind of a bitch? But also possibly well-meaning and OP as fuck. This concludes my analysis! Do you agree? Disagree? I'd love to hear thoughts.

They also said David was right that he and Ellie have a violent heart and then compared Joel to him like a parallel. Like its purely to justify the second game/season beacuse he knows audiences wont receive it well in the first one.
Like its not in the first season beacuse it would ruin the story which is why they try so hard to justify their position to trick us into thinking seeds of violence were planted when they clearly weren't. If anything the actual show makes the second game look even MORE unrealistic.
And Neil recently reaffirming he does not care for people who dislike the second game. Like im sorry thats not a valid opinion he unironically based this game around Palestine and cycles of aggressive violence and promoted it through sabatoging beloved characters in favour of his new actual facist fave youre forced to play.
A good game is not devisive amongst the fanbase like the sequel was. Thats bad. And I think he will be in for a rude awakening at the reception to season 2. Beacuse general audiences will watch the show more then go out and play a game. Gamers paid already it doesnt matter if we stop playing half way through.
But TV shows with audience drop offs are much more brutal for a shows reception.
The amount of people already who refuse to tune in for a future season just from what ive seen on here is staggering.
Its a bad, brutal, punishing story with no mercy. And it'll be an even worse show.
I agree with these senitments, mutual!
I find it intersing making Ellie more used to violence (or using violence) in the TV series - of course she is a girl who's grown up in a miliatry school in a post-apocalypse, so it would make sense for her to be used or more ready to utilise violence in terms of survival. But I don't like the idea that she is violent like David is, or comparing his version of violence to Ellie's (or Joel's, for that matter) because its totally different - especailly as neither of them seek violence as a way of abusing people or to gain power like David most certainly does.
When I think of Ellie I don't think of her having a "violent heart" I think of her as a scared and yet feirce girl. I think the only thing David ever got right about her was that she is very loyal. I'd say that she has a loyal heart and one that puts loyalty into people who she cares deeply about & that show her that she can trust them/that they won't abandon her/that they can protect her.
Tumblr media
^^^ I mean???!!!!??!!!!!! looook! the sweetest <3
Its intersting to hear Neil said that, I haven't seen much about what the creators have spoken about since the first game came out (/little snippets from the podcasts), to be honest, but its very disheartening. (And as a writer myself, I can't imagine having that perspective or lack of thought for fans by saying something like that publicly!)
I could go on about how I don't trust a lot of the men involved in this story (Pedro excepted ofc), for the way they treat David, like he's not an obvious predator, and how I didn't like that Joel doesn't intercept Ellie during the restaurant scene, but I'd just end up getting mad! ^^' and on top of that, the mentioned narrative that Ellie is 'forever changed' by what happens to her in her run-in with David & his cannibal crew (according to Craig/Neil). I've always taken issue with such things, as much as Ellie is a wondeful well-fleshed out female queer character (mad props to Ashley Johnson for being pivotal with that <3); and it makes me feel that tlou 2 was just made to be a rug-pull type story (as has been used in GoT and TWD) like 'oh you thought this? haha, well think again! your fave is dead because of tragedy!' --> its edgy for the sake of being edgy and missed out on being a meaningful additon to the first game & DLC and its themes...
I'm thinking the same, that the second season is going to be just as divisive - all the people who haven't been spoiled by the gameplay etc., are going to have a similar rude awakening to fans when tlou part 2 was released, and I don't think they'll get the reception they were hoping for (but then again, perhaps the writers don't care?). BUT it'll probably affect viewership dramatically, especiallly if (as I've heard other fans say) that they will sequence it much like in the game where it jumps back & forth in time/perspective (meaning *spoilers* - Joel 💀 in the first half of the series, most likely). I just can't fathom that going down well with general audiences. That's a recipe for a tv series bomb if ever I saw one.
... ... ....
Its probably kinda bad I do partly want the second season to bomb, isn't it? 😅 don't get me wrong, I love the first game/season, and the actors etc who've worked on it - but I just have so much issues with how they've handled the story since then/their interpretations of it, like I do with a lot of other tv series/tv in general right now, that I would just feel pure justified satisfction from it if it did!

Balto 2 this movie i remember they put indigenous culture on this but it's racist they used animal character to represent indigenous people. To be fair balto movie the first one is good but the sequel well they're fine
You'd be right that itd be racist that they jsed animals to represent Indigenous people, but I can't even tell if thats what they were trying to do because it was done to badly. You mentioned in a previous ask (that I've lost atm) that you think Balto was supposed to be coded as mixed Indigenous, & that someone else who left a review on the first movie described it (Balto the character) as being both coded Native and the "tragic m*latto" trope, but honestly I dont really see ANY Indigenous coding in the first movie. That reviewers opinion is doesn't make sense to me since that trope is specific to Black people and specifically mixed Black (& coded) characters, not Native characters (unless maybe they were mixed Native/Black? But there's nothing to suggest Balto is Black either). The first Balto movie actually reads better if he's NOT supposed to be coded as a mixed race human, & if you just go with the story that it's just about dogs who don't initially trust Balto because he is part Wolf, & if you go by the standards of that thinking of animals in the movie (which would make sense: wolf dogs irl are actually very dangerous because their behaviors are extremely unpredictable, and they do and can act like wild animals, and aren't always trainable)
There's certainly Indigenous influence in the second movie, but it's more of an amalgamation & appropriation of different Indigenous beliefs (such as spirit animals, the totem pole & the meanings of them or what the carvings represent, Native sounding names for some of the characters, etc) that they just added to the movie for the sake of plot or to add to the setting, rather than the influence rooted in any specific tribe & their culture & then using that to outright say the characters are Native. As a kid, I didn't even really get the vibe that Aleu OR Balto was supposed to be Native, but just that the movie had some Indigenous looking stuff in it. I waited for some actual Indigenous characters to show up but they didn't, really. Imo they did kind of a shitty job at "coding" if that's what they were going for.
If Balto was supposed to be Native, I find it kind of weird to make him, the wolfdog, the (mixed) Native one, but that the Huskies are apparently supposed to be White. This is weird because Huskies have a lot of breeds Native to North America and used widely by Inuit & other Arctic Native people, so if anything they have a bigger connection to & association with Native people. It's also a weird move in general since "mutt" & "halfbreed" are two very common slurs used against Métis & other mixed Native people. Aleu even mentions her mother being a "purebreed" at one point. So to take that and apply it to ACTUAL dog characters but with terrible coding & appropriation is... not a good look.
So overall I can't even tell if Balto (& Aleu) was even intended to be coded as Native because of how terribly it was executed. I feel like if it was, the first film was not, but that they messily added all the coding later into the second film & tried to tie it in based on the (non coded) canon & lore they had from the first film. But if it wasn't (which I also think is plausible), I think they just added in all the Native (ish) stuff because they thought it'd be cool to have for the sake of aesthetics & story. It's hard to tell, because it's not like Spirit, where it's obvious Spirit is meant to be Native, because of the rest of the themes and motifs, his story is a parallel to Little Creek's, things that happen to him ALSO happened to Native people, there's Native characters added, there's various Native voice actors (including the legendary Zahn McClarnon, who does a minor role) & accurate showcase of Lakota culture, including the Lakota language, the bad guy is literally modeled after General Custer, & the whole film is a criticism on the treatment of Native Americans & American colonization.
With Balto, there's no Native voice actors or Native characters, the Native "culture" that IS there is extremely vague & not very cohesive & is hard to pin down what tribe(s) they were getting their info or inspiration from, & the only messaging that's there possibly regarding Native people is about the racism that mixed people face, which is also kinda general enough that you could potentially & arguably apply it to ANY mixed race person regardless of ethnicity, and in and of itself can be considered racist depending on the interpretation of what's presented (again what with the chsracters being dogs, the appropriation, etc).

4:35 into Tommy and i’ve already written down parallels to henry/alice, what that could mean for peter, and also the lady at the train immediately reminded me of Nina from brenner’s story
em how the fuck did you find the movie ever. Jesus Christ
asdfgHGVFGH I JUST GOT POWER BACK TO CHECK TUMBLR A LITTLE BIT AGO AND IM WISHING YOU LUCK WIBBLE BECAUSE THE PARALLELS (AND THE MOVIE AS A WHOLE) JUST GETS MORE INSANE FROM THERE. hope you’re ready for the beans hallucination scene. it has like nothing to do with st but it’s definitely a Ride. AND THATS SUCH A GREAT POINT ABOUT BRENNERS STORY YES OH MY GOD I DIDNT THINK OF THAT!! ADFBJDJSFBHDFHB i didnt find tommy, tommy found me. i can’t believe it ties into st, it’s one of those strange movies that’s fascinated me for years (especially being an avid fan of the who), specifically because of how weird it is AND because of how it approaches very dark themes in a very weird way to the point where the scenes are still very uncomfortable because of how weird/played up/absolutely absurd they are. it’s like they somehow managed to make it worse than just showing the actual abuse on screen because it’s played so almost comically but in a dark way and its just?? it baffles me especially because it’s not meant to be mocking survivors of abuse (esp since it’s literally written by a victim based on some of his own experiences) but it approaches the topics in a way that’s so bizarre that the bizarreness often adds to the horror of it rather than taking away from it?? anyway that’s a rant but tommy is one of those movies that like. it just fascinates me. its not even about whether its a good or a bad movie its just like being unable to look away from it because im wondering what the fuck is going on every 2 seconds. it just baffles me because its like. not only are the scenes about dark topics done in an absurd way but they’re also juxtaposed with some banger songs (although imo every album version of the songs is better EXCEPT for cousin kevin’s song. paul nicholas as cousin kevin is great casting as awful as kevin is), and so then it sort of makes you sit there and realize that ‘oh im jamming out to a song about horrible abuse’ and really hammers home the way that people ignore abuse because they’re so distracted by other things.  god i have a lot of thoughts about tommy. it baffles me every time. and it makes SO Much Sense for st to parallel it considering all the themes of tommy vs st and the who’s music as a whole and teenage angst and even though tommy may seem like a niche movie now, it was NOT a niche movie at its time, so i have zero doubt in my mind that the duffers are aware of it. like if i was writing a show set in the 80s that had csa allegories? tommy would be my first stop for parallels.  and like. now im thinking about tommy and the cousin kevin scene and how tommy reacts to being burned but not to anything else and how possessed will reacts to being burnt and how henry gets killed by fire and AGHHHHHHH

I watched Netflix's The Sea Beast. It's pretty shit tbh.
Why?
1) It had boring character designs. MC guy is just generic Walmart Flynn Rider and the Captain is just Walmart Long John Silver from Treasure Planet. Also why are their names so forgettable? Jacob Holland? That's just a guy.
I thought the designs of the monsters were also super lazy. Red is just red which makes no sense considering she wouldn't be able to blend in with her natural habitat, the Ocean. Blue is cute and I do love it but the nit-picky side of me wonders why it has the light bulb on its head like an Anglerfish when it doesn't live in a dark environment. Basically they don't look adapted to their habitats which makes me think the creators didn't bother with any sort of thoughtful world building.
2) The plot and music were very predictable with the music carrying the more emotional parts of the movie. Honestly, the emotional parts felt like they only happened to tick-off plot points, thats how predictable it felt. Sweet innocent child befriends sentient monster who end up saving eachother. I usually like that trope but with age I'm getting tired of it lol ☠️ she also befriends the Jaded Adult™️ but the sad part is I felt no chemistry between them. The two main characters are supposed to be like a found family by the end of the film but it didn't feel real. Maybe it's because they literally only knew eachother for a few days. 🤔 But also the bad writing. Honestly none of the characters deviated from their character tropes so none of them felt real.
3) The dialogue felt awkward and unnatural. Especially the kid. She doesn't say things a kid her age would (her voice actor was really good though). But it's a pet peeve of mine when writers mess this up. It's not just her either. A lot of the characters just say generic things that we've all heard before. Lazy imo.
Anyway, now for the positives! 💖
1) The overall message of the movie was good and educational, "be weary of the content you consume as it might not be coming from reliable sources". Even if it was explained in a very heavy handed way, that's to be expected from a kids movie. (Absolutely zero nuance lol).
2) I liked the character development that Walmart Flynn goes through. The Captain and him were good parallels to eachother in regards to their morals and values. They started out the same but ended up choosing different paths. 👌
3) I also liked the detailed backgrounds and pretty colour pallets. Also the animation itself was great. It's just a shame it was wasted on such a boring story.
Overall, just watch How to train your Dragon instead. It had the same themes but done a lot better with better characters and better everything else. It also didn't bore me out of my mind unlike The Sea Beast. 2/10

It's gotta be for all these acts of violence, and I would love to see 4, 5, 7, and 9!
aaaa thank you! <3
(ask meme for my fics)
(all these acts of violence | stranger things fanfic)
4: What's your favorite line of dialogue?
this one:
Implying that Will has other reasons to forgive him? Like what? Mike doesn't think he's done anything particularly special for Will since their argument… “Okay… okay. Good. And...” he takes a deep breath, “and about the other thing I said, at the garage. Y-you know I’m sorry about that too, right?” Will’s eyes soften. “I know.” “I didn’t—I don’t want to pressure you into saying anything. You don’t owe me, or anyone else, any sort of explanation, whatever you are okay? Especially if you’re not comfortable with it. But I hope you know I’ll always have your back, no matter what.” Will reaches for his hand, and squeezes. “I know, Mike.” “Okay,” Mike says, willing his racing heart to calm back down even as he squeezes back. “Good. So long as you know… good.”
love me some soft supportive almost-coming-out scenes. i always thought it was interesting that mike's outburst ("its not my fault you dont like girls!") while horrible and with some pretty awful timing... seemed to imply that... what? he noticed will has no interest in girls? he realized that it wasn't just that will was a late bloomer but something more? theres a lot of subtext there i really wanted to dig my claws into
will's always been the target of homophobic bullying as seen in previous seasons, and altho we never see the kids comment on queerness one way or another, so it seems like there HAD to have been some serious math going on mike's bratty little noggin about will's sexuality at one point? but despite growing up in a family that most likely would have frowned on those inclinations, to say the least, mike kept his questions to himself and kept being will's friend, whereas someone else might freak out, or be more confrontational or simply slowly stop being around a suspected gay person without an explanation. so playing on the dialogue after ("look, im not trying to be a bad guy" or something along those lines) i sort of wanted to expand on that headcanon a lil and kinda lean on mike wheeler's "screw the rules, i can have more than one best friend/ i like you so i will now die for you" personality
5: What part was hardest to write?
the last chapter right now I'd say part 1 of the epilogue (aka chapter 13)! mostly because it explores an aftermath that we didn't see in canon, with a bunch of ideas i had that were pretty vague and hard to make cohesive, and season 4 hadn't been mentioned much at that point so i had no idea what to expect and was kinda stressing out about deviating too much from canon. but i really had a lot of fun with putting all the scenes together and im really proud of it now
7: Where did the title come from?
from a song called revolution by misterwives! particularly the lyrics, "all these acts of violence, ripping this world to shreds/while I'm trying to sleep, oh how could I sleep?"
i thought that particular verse was pretty fitting to the whole theme of the fic (esp the whole ripping the world to shreds bit as a metaphor for the gates opening hehe) and so thats why i made it the title!
9: Were there any alternate versions of this fic?
kjhgjb uh not really? from the start acts of violence was always meant to be a fic that was going to run parallel to canon bc i do not have the energy to go fully canon divergence with this particular idea and wanted to work on some other projects like wavelength besides. akdfjdsdkgjsd it was always meant to be a sort of practice fic, almost!
but i will say that for chapter 13 there was a moment where i wanted to make mike's awakening with nancy and karen (and sam owens) to be in a military base away from hawkins, on the basis of his leg being infected with extradimensional alien bacteria that a normal hospital would have no idea how to treat and the government would want to keep a close eye on. that however felt like one plotline too many to introduce and resolve when the fic's so close to ending so i cut it out and only left some of those bits in (ie: karen's confrontation with sam, mike developing an infection, etc)
thank you for the ask!

ugh ok that poll i reblogged made me listen to UUFO again and i didnt realize it's been like a few months since i listened to it in full FKKEDN (ok this got long so it's under a cut now)
every song ive just been going "OMG I LOVE THIS SONG" DJAKDJEK IM NORMAL IM NORMAL
i know its cringe to like a camellia album this much but uufo is like. a culmination of a LOT of the things i like, and all of camellias experience leading up to that point yk.. and so much love and effort went into it from so many different people.. auuuughhh
every part of the album comes together... i LOVE albums with a theme and this one is PARANORMAL OCCURENCES and URBAN LEGENDS and shit ITS EVERYTHING I LOVE!! the different pieces of album art... ufo girl... wauuuu wauuuu cries sobs
idc if its uncritical and cringe to love every song i do what i want. i dont rly care abt if a song is structurally good as long as it makes me happy it goes hard (and all of them make me happy)
the website.. so pretty...
ok im gonna go to bed after doinf this but heres a few tracks i want to ramble abt (i wish i could do all of the tracks but i wont (FOR NOW...))
for the longest time buzzbox was my favorite song LOL. it was one of my first songs on the album and the russian bass/hardcore mix is just SO good. idk why i liked it so much honestly, its not rly what i LISTEN to yk. i have a fond memory of making my geometry teacher listen to it in 10th grade and she never let me pick a class song again. SHE LIKED EDM TOO I THOUGHT SHE'D GET IT </33
obviously ghoul is amazing. no notes. everyone loves that song.
OOPARTS IS A BONUS TRACK ON THIS ALBUM. OOPARTS. OF COURSE IT'S GOOD
speaking of the muzzle facing.. god idk. the melodic metal undertones. i LOVE a big variety in musical textures and this song just SCRATCHES my DAMN BRAIN. the part where it goes *metal guitar riff* *oingo boingo ass scratching noises* ANDJWJDJEJD IM NORMAL (at 1:37)
POLYBIUS GB IS SO GOOD. the way every section of the song builds on eachother AUGH. the final drop with the chiptune/extratone. CAMELLIA AND HIS EXTRATONEY FINAL DROPS ARE SO GOOD WAUUU WAAAA
a lot of what i feel abt polybius gb ALSO applies to final blenderman!!!! except final blenderman has WAYY more electric guitar YEAHHHH!! camellia final drops. the shift from rock guitar to chiptune melody, and an extratoneish finale,, reminds me a bit of million pp actually? haha. it miiiight be my favorite song? it outranked buzzbox a while ago but tbh this place might be slipping for like, the muzzle facing.
i actually didnt like myths you forgot as much as the other tracks when i first listened to it.. idk why? maybe bc it was a little slower? past me has no taste bc this track is so layered. and good. thanks toby fox
artcore is usually an "eh, its good" for me (i have a lot of artcore i enjoy, like fallen symphony) but #1f1e33 is different.. just felt like pointing it out (esp since this album has a longer version of it) like! i never felt BORED! every section builds! and has interesting auditory textures! lol. ig thats how u keep my attention (not that "being boring" is inherently bad ofc)
i have really fond memories of listening to microwave-proof cat in like, 10th/9th grade... sighh that song is so fun. the main melody's texture is just so bouncy. kisses it.
OKAY. DAMN. its 3. i need to go to bed. i'd love to continue rambling abt this though. maybe later.
as of right now my favorite camellia song (outside of this album) is parallel universe shifter :3c yeah, like, his most recent 7 minute song. of course its good. idk just.. it has all the things i like in it. i'd love to be able to one day make music like this song specifically. but point is, it has all of my favorite musical things.. in it. idk how to explain it. the name too. its super personal to me LOL. and the references and callbacks in the song. so tasty
ig another 8+ track edm album i like is also good evening hollowood... can you tell i love paranormal/halloween themed albums. JK LOL the songs in that album have nothing to do with that. while im talking abt t+pazolite i like ponko2 girlish too.. maybe ill dedicate a post to that if i get bored.
OK FOR REAL NOW ILL STOP. BYE

☽ /  @spiriitum :  okokok how'd cass feel about that lovely one-on-one time with Varian in 'cassandra's revenge'? bc i need more pain in my life lol                     SEND ME TOPICS TO WRITE META ON PLS !!
Tumblr media
CONFLICTED -- would be the immediate word that comes to mind. she didn’t want to hurt him -- she says so herself -- && she initially seemed fine with him roaming around the tower on his own. he’s a friend -- one that betrayed her && tried to hurt her -- but he had become one of the very few people that had become important to her in her life, he’d begun to grow on her && she began to see him as something of a little brother, something she never had in her life && found family was always important to her.
she KNOWS what he’s done, what he’s been through -- how it’s all so similar, how he knows exactly where she is && how she feels but she’s not in the right frame of mind, she isn’t thinking thoroughly enough && she hadn’t seen herself the way he’d seen himself. to her, she was just trying to live her destiny -- being unknowingly manipulated && misguided by a demon -- so when he calls her a villain, she snaps.
before that moment she might have listened && we can see the little hesitation && cracks in her facade, how he might be breaking through (  especially on that ‘ lose your soul ’ moment  )   -- people keep placing keywords on her that she doesn’t want to conform to && it raises her anger, puts her back into all those swirling && raging insecurities && emotions that she was never taught how to deal with outside of concealing them all && moving on, bottling everything but there’s no more room for anything else. so she lashes out.
he keeps talking && talking && all it does it push confusion && conflict into what she sways between being okay with, being confident && knowing what her destiny is but she’s called a villain -- told she’s doing bad when she doesn’t think she is. there’s so much in her at that point -- fear, conflict, insecurity, anger, resentment. it’s all so much && she tries to keep a top securely on it but he pushes && pushes while just trying to get through to her && she can’t hold it in anymore.
it’s that one moment where she’s called a villain where she just stops listening all together && fights back because that’s not who she thinks she is -- this is her destiny && HE doesn’t get it. this isn’t the same as his problem -- this isn’t the same && she’s not going to lose like he did. she’s stubborn -- too full of pride && hate && hurt && pain to listen but the conflict is there, it hurts her head, it hurts her chest so painfully but she has to fight it.
she has to fight every single little word he says that strikes a chord -- that tells her she should stop, that she’s going to go too far now -- because she can’t have those ties to her old life. she can’t have those weaknesses -- those friends who believe in her because she just wants them to justify her anger, spurn her on further so she doesn’t have to feel the immense guilt she’s felt every day since she’d taken the moonstone.
that conversation -- those words that tried so hard to get through to her, sympathy from someone who has been through a similar situation, similar feelings he had overcome eventually that she needs help sorting through, coming to terms with -- was the last little thing she needed to cut off from herself, that friendship, that last person to push away.
even after it all, even after she sends him to be held off the tower, she has that conflict && sadness in her because those words did reach her -- she just can’t listen to them, she can’t feel that because she has a destiny to take for her own && she can’t have those words echoing in her head. she can’t keep holding onto that guilt or she can’t do what she needs to.
but i can tell you his words echoed in her mind again once she’d figured out the girl was zhan tiri -- found out she was wanted as a traitor, that she was actually seen as the villain even if she hadn’t seen herself that way until then. he was right -- she should have listened. but it was too late.

If ducktales was still on going what would you like to see in season 4? Main theme of it? What path would you choose for Goldie, cause I'm assuming we all want more of Goldie
of course there'd be more Goldie! Allison Janney finished up with Mom and has more time for voice acting so Goldie can appear more often, lets do it
so obv my ideal scenario would be to take what we had of s3 and stretch it out into two seasons, BUT since thats not an option lets say we're starting right from where we left off. season 3 would need to do some fun stuff like:
awkwardly address Webby and Scrooge’s relationship (& Beakley's of course)
bring back Goldie and Louie's relationship and give us some good content
continue with the Darkwing Duck/Negaduck storyline
soooooo. okay. new big bad for season 4: Shere Khan (from Talespin)! he's a super corrupt business rival of Scrooge's. they dont work together often 'cause they're from very different parts of the world, but they've crossed paths a few times. Khan has decided that McDuck Enterprises has gotten in the way of his own business too many times and he's going to try and destroy Scrooge and ruin his business
he'd recruit some villains from other seasons who managed to escape to help him with his plans. people will do anything for money and he has a Lot of money
the big character arc would focus on Scrooge (with some Webby and Huey to make up for last season) and Scrooge learning to accept the flaws in the people he loves and just because their decisions don’t always make him happy doesn’t mean they don’t love him. or whatever something like that.
ok here ive put together every episode because i felt like it and i’m a completionist. i tried to make it seem like regular DuckTales except with a little bit more Goldie for my own joy and pleasure
CLICK HERE FOR A SPREADSHEET WITH CHARACTER APPEARANCES
4x01 - No, Wait, There’s More!:
(Plot A:) Scrooge and Webby and Beakley content. They just talk about things mostly (beakley apologizes for lying to webby and for not telling scrooge that webby was made by fowl. ‘you didnae know she was mine?’ ‘no, i had no idea, i just knew she shouldnt be raised by those criminals’) and they go on a tiny little adventure together. Ends with Webby deciding to continue to call Scrooge ‘Uncle Scrooge’ because ‘Dad’ feels weird for her (scrooge feels uncomfortable with her decision but doesnt bring it up cuz beakley tells him to leave it be).
(Plot B:) The villains who escaped from FOWL and are trying to get their shit back together
Ep ends with quick scene of Shere Khan being annoyed while watching the news
4x02 - School of Ducks:**
(Plot A:) School episode! Lena and Webby both learn about the joys of public school. Violet and BOYD are there, too. A cute ep with little school shenanigans. Maybe they all get detention or something. Also there's like short clips of all the adults doing boring adult things (cleaning, taxes, Della @ therapy with jones) while the kids are like "this is so boring I wish I was a grownup doing whatever I want!" and it'd be funny
(no Plot B)
4x03 - On the Open Sea:
(Plot A:) Donald and Daisy & May and June on the open seas and they see the Mervanans and have fun boat adventures!
(Plot B:) Della & Penumbra get into some shenanigans in Duckburg and fight the Beagle Boys together and it’s kind of a double parallel to the Don/Daisy stuff and also referencing the Webby/Lena stuff from S1.
4x04 - First Contact With Khan:
(Plot A:) Scrooge is looking for a new money manager storyline ft Webby with a brief mention/appearance of Goldie (scrooge makes some reference to being webbys dad just to see how she reacts, she does not). Shere Khan contacts Scrooge about them merging or collaborating on something blah blah.
(Plot B:) Huey & Della travel to Grandma Duck’s farm to help Huey learn better ways to express himself? or maybe Huey wants to earn a farming badge lol
4x05 - Depends On Who You Ask:
(Plot A:) Fenton & M’ma are interviewing all of the captured F.O.W.L. agents about their roles in what happened, all of them tell wildly different stories about how innocent they are (captured people...Steelbeak, Rockerduck/Jeeves, Don Karnage).
(Plot B:) Webby goes camping with the Sabrewings!
Ep ends with Shere Khan paying Don Karnage’s bail. (Rockerduck also gets out of jail because of his own money, but Steelbeak is stuck for now)
4x06 - The Sounds of St. Canard:
(Plot A:) Launchpad and Dewey visit St Canard and there’s an adventure with Gosalyn and Drake where Negaduck/Jim shows up and goes cwazy (several dwd villain appearances, including morgana!).
(Plot B:) Muddlefoots being completely average normal citizens but they’re funny
Ep ends with the plots colliding when Honker and Gosalyn and Dewey meet and they all become buds
4x07 - The Duck Cousins:
(Plot A:) Huey Dewey Louie and Webby are getting into some shenanigans which reminds Scrooge of Della Donald Gladstone and Fethry. Cue an entire flashback episode about Della Donald Gladstone and Fethry as older teens! This episode includes: Duckworth, Quackfaster, the Caballeros, Goldie, & if you squnt there’s a brief appearance of Daisy.
(no Plot B)
4x08 - Another Tale to Spin:**
(Plot A:) Kit and Della have kept in contact since the end of S3 and he and Molly come to visit. They have some kind of crazy adventure involving flying or whatevs I’m sure it’s exciting also Beakley and Launchpad are there!
(Plot B:) Baloo and Rebecca are on vacation and they’re staying at a hotel up in the Dawson area. Fun fact this is Goldie’s hotel and we get to learn a little bit about how Goldie lives her life away from Scrooge.
Ep ends with Kit and Molly overhearing Scrooge talk about Shere Khan and they’re both like UHHH....
4x09 - The Midas Touch:
(Plot A:) Magica is attacking Scrooge, trying to get her hands on his dime. The episode involves a lot of standard characters and feels like it jumped right out of the comics/the 87 series (but with Della instead of Donald). The boys and Webby and Della are trying to help in the fight against Magica, but the Beagle Boys are making their way towards the Money Bin! The ep ends with Scrooge’s victory, and then Ludwig Von Drake closes a book and talks to the audience like ‘vell zat’s how I remember it!’
(no Plot B)
4x10 - It’s a Hard Knock Life:
(Plot A:) Glomgold and Gibbous try to recruit all the Moonlanders to work for Glomgold Industries and its a mess because obviously Penumbra knows about Glomgold thanks to Della. Also I think it’d be funny if one of the Moonlanders had a baby with an earthling.
(Plot B:) Fenton and Gandra are showing Huey how to fight and they talk about being a little crime fighting team.
Plots converge when Penumbra shoots a laser at Glomgold and accidentally sets a building on fire, so FGH show up to help.
4x11 - A Tale of Two Kitties:
(Plot A:) After the warnings from Kit and Molly, Scrooge feels weird about business with Shere Khan. Against his better judgement he reaches out to Goldie, who has also dealt with Khan before, and Goldie shows up and they tell a story about Shere Khan to Louie & Webby.
(Plot B:) Shere Khan is telling the same story to his assistant & Don Karnage, but obviously it’s a very different version where he’s justified in everything he does. In his story, he breaks Splatter Phoenix out of prison (takes place in the 60s, Splatter Phoenix is old now).
4x12 - Just Another Day:**
(Plot A:) Takes place on the same day at 4x13. Huey, Violet & BOYD are having a giant multi-step relay race/battle/I don’t know/brains vs brawn thing against Dewey, Gosalyn, & Louie (Louie shouldn’t be brawn but he really doesn’t think HVB can win). It ends when Launchpad and Drake crash land in the middle of the field and announce that it’s time for Gosalyn to go home.
(Plot B:)   A day in the life of Gyro Gearloose. From the perspective of Lil Bulb! Also the Rangers live in Gyro's lab currently so they show up too
4x13 - Just Another Day, The Musical!:
(Plot A:) Takes place on the same day as 4x12. Scrooge, Webby & Lena were on an adventure in some magical Crystal Cavern, meanwhile Fenton & Gandra are also at the Crystal Cavern but as a date. Also Goldie is at the Crystal Cavern because she heard Scrooge was going. Shenanigans happen and they all get split up: Goldie, Gandra & Lena on one side, Scrooge, Fenton & Webby on the other. Also it’s a musical episode where everyone sings except maybe Gandra, I think she’d be the character that refuses to sing until the end.
(no Plot B)
4x14 - Ladies On the Town:
(Plot A:) Matilda McDuck comes to town! Scrooge is busy so he asks Beakley and Quackfaster to show her a good time. It’s an old ladies episode. Hortense is brought up in detail. There’s some plot with bank robbery or guns or something really intense and funny and violent.
(Plot B:) Scrooge publicly announces that McDuck Enterprises will no longer be working with Khan Industries. Khan saw this coming and takes it in stride, but also we find out that he’s broken Akita out of prison and is recruiting him for his own nefarious purposes.
4x15 - Homesick Seasick:
(Plot A:) Donald getting homesick, they get to south America and meet daisys sister Donna and her daughter April. they're hitting it off but Donald can't stop thinking about HDL when he watches the girls hanging out.
(Plot B:) Gandra visits Steelbeak in prison. it's just an awkward time but we get some context for their relationship when they were in F.O.W.L. and Gandra says when he gets out maybe he could try being a good guy and he's like meh
4x16 - The McQuacks in St. Canard:
(Plot A:) Darkwing stuff with Negaduck. Drake finally adopts Gosalyn after they realize with full certainty that they're never getting her grandpa back. Some background St Canardians and DWD villains...Splatter Phoenix perhaps
(Plot B:) Launchpad’s family is also there? Mcquack shenanigans in St Canard
4x17 - The Magic Man:
(Plot A:) Magica, Lena, Gene, Gladstone, Duckworth, & Djinn are all taken somewhere by Merlock. Gene has bad emotions about it because Merlock was one of his old terrible masters. Lots of magical emotions and Lena being a magical badass.
(Plot B:) Phantom Blot and Pepper content but idk what they're doing. Probably wanting to plot but having no money so they have to get regular jobs. That’d be funny actually it’s all about them trying to hold down normal retail/office jobs
4x18 - Not Just the Klondike:
(Plot A:) Valentine’s Day ep!!! Lena and Violet come over and Violet’s like “I promised Hubert we’d hang out” but she’s lying actually she’s just trying to give Webby and Lena some alone time. She joins HDL and finds Huey begging Scrooge to tell the story of how he and Goldie first met. She’s interested, Dewey’s interested, Louie’s pretending not to be interested but he’s listening in.
(Plot B:) Lena has something to tell Webby but then they see Beakley sneaking out and obv Webby thinks it’s a date so they follow her! Along the way they pass by lots of couples like Fenton/Gandra and Launchpad/Drake and Della/Penumbra and then in the end they find Beakley visiting a grave. Beakley’s like ‘my daughter, the woman who i told you was your mother, was born on feb 14 so this is where i always go’ and then Webby and Lena and Beakley just kind of sit together and it’s somber, very different from the Scrooge n Goldie shenanigans
4x19 - Good to Have You Back:
(Plot A:) Donald and Daisy return from their boat trip! May and June aren’t with them, they talk about how they really hit it off with Daisy’s sister so they’re going to stay with her for a bit and try going to school where no one knows who Scrooge McDuck is, then they can come back to Duckburg for the summer. Flashes over to Donna and May and June and Donna’s daughter April hanging out.
(Plot B:) Akita is working in his brand new lab financed by Shere Khan. His lab assistant is...Sara Bellum? But she’s not a villain! Or is she? What’s going on? Le gaaaassspppp, we just don’t know! But she’s definitely acting a little off. Very cooperative. Shere Khan comes in to observe a few times. He blasts Don Karnage at some point who starts acting like a monkey and being generally weird
4x20 - Dewey’s Day Off:
(Plot A:) Dewey gets in trouble and can’t go with the rest of the family on some trip, but somehow ends up spending the entire day with Boyd. They have a lot of fun and bond over literally everything and his punishment ends up not being much punishment at all lol
(Plot B:) Magica uses Bradford-bird and a lot of resources and blahblah using time travel she ends up finding Poe and brings him to the future. She tries to change him back to a duck but he only gains the ability to talk, not to do magic or anything. Now Magica has two cool birds
Plots don’t converge but there’s some visual parallels
4x21 - Sharp Luck:
(Plot A:) Goldie and Louie and Gladstone. I'm thinking Goldie needed Louies help for something and either she tells a story about getting Gladstones help in the past or Gladstone runs into them and they all work together. And Goldie wears green!
(Plot B:) Fethry and Gyro and Gandra and Fenton are doing sciencey things together.
Ep ends where Gyro finds out Akita is no longer in prison and then the screen fades over to Akita’s lab where we see him doing bad shit
4x22 - Musings of a Bengal Tiger:
(Plot A:) All about Shere Khan, how he became who he is. Some of his history with Scrooge and Baloo and Rebecca and the previous Don Karnage, but mostly focused on Shere.
(no Plot B)
4x23 - Of Ducks, Dimes, and Destinies:
(Plot A:) Beginning on the end. Shere and Akita use mind control ray to gradually make all the people in Scrooge’s life go absolutely bonkers. They’re all acting in ways they should not. Scrooge’s stockholders start pulling out of the company and Scrooge is losing money FAST. They did not use the mind control ray on Scrooge ‘cause they want to make sure he’s fully aware of whats happening. Glomgold is super excited about becoming the richest duck in the world but then Shere Khan comes into Duckburg and Glomgold realizes Shere Khan is richer than him. Shere Khan references their bet from S2 and says he didn’t care about it nor is he a duck so....”go away, worm” and Glomgold slinks away angrily
4x24 - Of Ducks, Dimes, and Destinies:
(Plot A:) Scrooge and Huey and Webby work together to find out how to fix everyone. Gyro becomes the Mad Ducktor. Goldie is like NegaGoldie. Donald is Paperinik/Duck Avenger. Della thinks shes a successful astronaut. Then suddenly Huey is the Duke of Making a Mess. There’s a whole bunch of these, you get it. They cant fix everyone til Akita’s device is destroyed. The device did not work on Boyd so hes helping too and there’s some Boyd and Gyro emotions
4x25 - Of Ducks, Dimes, and Destinies:**
(Plot A:) Talespin cast help out (also Steelbeak because he should come back around). How does the end go??? Uhhh everything goes back to normal and Shere Khan is outed for cruelty and villainy and hurting children maybe. Something about loving and accepting people as they are. This becomes a big Scroldie thing but also ties to Scrooge being a little put off by Webby not wanting to call him Dad in the first episode
Season ends with a lot of hugs and talking and then Goldie introduces Scrooge to Dickie this kind of goes into the honesty/accepting people thing lol Goldie’s like “if you want something to accept then boy do i have a treat for you”
** - Dickie appears in this ep

Cont* (uh same anon that sent the ask ab analyzing mha and the characters?)
Like honestly kats behavior although not excusable, was heavily influenced by society. From the moment he got his quirk he was conditioned into believing he was better than everyone else and that everyone was valued simply for the quirk they did or didnt have and not their person over all. His future was already predetermined when he got his quirk because it was so powerful. And now hes around people like aizawa and the rest of class a thats teaching him that theres more to being a hero and a person than just your quirk and winning vs losing. The league and stein were not lying when they said that heroes create villains and violence because they gave themselves the authority to decide whos good vs bad, and who is valuable vs who isnt. These are the people that create issues like the ones that bakugo and even shouto had
No bc frfr i didnt like kats at all at first esp after he pretty much told izu to off himself but i realized that i look deeper into characters and analyze their actions and behaviors when i actually genuinely care ab the show to the point where i kinda start fixating on it and not just watching yk? So after they fought in ground beta and maybe even before then when i started analyzing mha and each of the characters, i slowly started to love him esp now that i was deep enough into it to care more ab his character? Honestly i could talk about mha, the characters and the flaws in hero society for hours now💀 but anyways i love kats sm now☹️☹️☹️ hes had really great development esp now that hes around such positive influences and not being influenced and enabled by the toxicity of their society
( cw for mentions of discrimination, bullying, other metaverse stuff and my own personal thoughts lol )
edit: copypasted the wrong thing lol
tl;dr i agree completely lmao
i think one of the really good parts of bnha as a manga and as a series is how the workings of quirk society effect both the quirkless and those blessed with quirks in different ways.
bakugou is a direct parallel to deku in this specific way. not that these things excuse his behaviors in anyway. but truly, sincerely - so much of bakugou's characters are the effects of the pre-determined worth that comes with being blessed with a quirk. we see this theme reinforced like countless times through the series
and every single character in the show must suffer the consequences of quirk society - both good and bad. from todoroki and the exploration of quirk marriage eugenics, to people like shinso who face an onslaught out discrimination on the basis his quirk. the societal impairments you face is something we see a lot. with shigarakis backstory very directly.
but i think bakugou comes from the opposite side of that. it is an exploration of how someones character can be diminished if they're praised solely for qualities they had no control over. and it also shows that it is bakuguous responsibility as a character to grow, change, and show respect to others.
many of bakugou's beliefs were fostered because of that. but it also made him deeply insecure and question everything around him. while he was most certainly benefitted with certain experiences, he also deeply suffered on a personal level. i truly find this part of his character so interesting.
in general i completely agree lol

does it ever feel isolating thinking about su (or cartoons(or media in general)) in the way you broke down 'dewey wins'? (all good if thats too personal)
luckily, there are actually plenty of people who analyze SU and similar media the way i do. i follow blogs with similar opinions and approaches as mine, and many people have the same frustrations as i do about how hypocritical and bad the criticisms levied at SU are.
with dewey wins as an example, i always felt like the thematic thread was... fairly in-your-face. there's a theme throughout all of SU about the hero complexes that come with leadership - be that the diamonds, the crystal gems, parenting in general, rose, or the hero role characters like steven and jasper take on. the solution SU presents is usually honesty, equality, acknowledging the universality of flaws and the impossibility of heroic ideals, and building down hierarchies. don't meet your heroes, but also don't be a hero, because no one is better than anyone else.
but with that episode in particular, it felt like that theme was ignored because the fandom is very used to "sorting" episodes into very particular boxes of "townie" vs "gem / real plot" - despite the fact that they often have the same themes and represent parallels and similarities between the two societies, which makes it satisfying when the border between them gets slimmer to almost non-existent in later seasons and particularly future. also "townie" eps are great at developing steven and his various complexes, but what do i know.
but yeah, i used to get annoyed that the more popular takes on youtube, twitter and (used to be, but has significantly chilled out) tumblr when it comes to SU are... wrong, lazy ways to feel superior to something you don't really understand. but at the same time, you can only get angry about that kind of thing for so long. i've become a lot more zen about it lately. it is what it is.
