The Speederbike - Part 1
Plot: Rex develops a massive crush on the new mechanic, but is extremely awkward about it.
Warnings: Minor swearing, awkward Rex
Word Count: 1209
Author’s Note: It’s my first time writing Rex, so I hope I got him right. No descriptions or names for the reader included.

Part 1
Rex entered the briefing room. The general said someone was joining the battalion, and they weren’t a clone. It was part of some new program getting civvies involved to fight in the war alongside the troopers. Rex wasn’t sure about this – he had seen too many civvies turn their noses up at them, and he didn’t need another one to do so, especially one he would have to see on the daily.
He was just about to express his concerns to the general when you walked into the room, full-kit. You were a mechanic, sure, but he wasn’t expecting a mechanic with a full kit on. You took off your helmet with a smile and Rex froze. He wondered if love at first sight was real, because this sure felt like it. He didn’t even notice the general leaving the room.
“Hi Captain. I’m the new mechanic. I do hope it’s okay that the general himself chose me. I don’t want to cause any trouble.”
Rex was very glad his helmet hid his face as his cheeks warmed and his heartrate increased. He managed to choke out, “Oh, uh, hello. Welcome to the 501st. Always good to know another mechanic. I’m sure you’re very skilled at what you do, and uh, being here you’ll only get better!”
You chuckled. “General Skywalker was right. You do get awkward when you’re nervous. It’s nice to meet you, Captain Rex.”
Rex chuckled awkwardly. “Apologies, I wasn’t anticipating meeting such a… a skilled mechanic today.”
You smiled. “Anything specific on the docket today I should tend to first?”
It was that smile again. His entire face felt warm, silently making him praise his helmet again. “Oh, uh, nothing I can think of off the top of my head! I just came to greet you. Um, you’re from Alderaan, right?”
“Yeah, I grew up there.”
“What’s it like? Maybe when the war’s over, I might visit.” He shrugged, attempting to calm down and seem like he was more in control of himself than he was coming off as.
“It’s really pretty. The mountains are really nice. I like it much more than Coruscant.” You pause. “Maybe I could show you some of my favorite places when that time comes.”
Once again, he was glad the helmet was on as he blushed. He stood a bit straighter and nodded. “Y-yeah, that would be really nice.”
You smiled again and Rex was certain he was going to melt. “Sounds like a plan. Well, until then, I’ll likely be busy in the repair section of the hangar bay. May I head there, Captain?”
He tilted his head in confusion until he realized you were waiting for him to formally dismiss you. “Of course, yes! You are excused. It was nice to meet you.”
You nodded and turned around, heading to the hangar bay. Rex watched you go for a moment, then had to snap himself out of his trance. He started in a different direction.
Days turned into weeks and Rex slowly got more comfortable around you, despite the increase in his heartrate every time you smiled at him and the warmth that accompanied it. He chose to start making up an excuse to see you daily – just checking on the repair bay, he said if someone asked him.
One day, he went to visit you and you had a surprise for him.
“Captain! I need your opinion on something!” You grabbed his arm and pulled him with you. Your hand around his arm made him blush slightly, but you were too distracted to see it. The grin on your face was indicator enough of your distraction as you pulled him over to a sheet-covered item that was longer than it was tall and slightly oddly shaped.
He chuckled. “Okay, what do you need my opinion on?”
“Remember last week when you lamented not having a speederbike on some missions?”
You remembered? The warmth in his chest at such a small detail grew. “Yeah.”
You pulled the sheet off the item and his eyes widened. It was a speederbike, a little worse for the wear, but still in usable condition.
“How did you get ahold of this?”
You giggled. “That’s the one Jesse found in the scrapheap. I was thinking I could fix it up and it could be a 501st speeder. And maybe… we could get it painted up in white with some blue highlights?”
His heart fluttered a little. “You took this on because of me?”
“Of course, Captain. You guys mean the world to me. Now, once I get it running, I’ll have to find some blue for the detailing.”
Rex blurted out, “I could do that! I mean, I can find the paint since I know where it is. You’re amazing.”
You smiled and he shyly smiled back.
“Captain, I –”
He interrupted, “Rex. Please.”
You smiled softly. “Alright. Rex, I can have this fixed up in a day or two. I will, however, need some direction on how you want it painted.”
Rex rushed to say, “I could do that, too!”
“You sure you’re not too busy?”
Rex blushed a bit. “I’m never too busy for you.”
Your lips parted a little and he had the sudden urge to find out how they taste, but he held back.
“Thank you, Rex,” you said softly. The way you said his name made his skin prickle slightly, blossoming from his chest and tingling all the way down to the tips of his toes.
“I’ll, uh, bring you that paint tomorrow so it’s ready when you are.”
“Sounds great. Unlike the engine.” You scoffed a little and broke the slight awkwardness.
He frowned. “What does it sound like?”
You turned on the engine and it made a bad noise, one that grumbled and squawked slightly instead of a low growl, causing him to flinch and you turn it off.
“What’s the issue with it?” he asked.
“Whatever is causing it to make that noise,” you teased.
“Smartass,” Rex said with a soft chuckle, then he froze, silently cursing himself. You’re not one of his brothers, he couldn’t just talk to you like that!
But you didn’t seem to mind as you laughed and responded, “Smartass? Me? Well, it’s better than being a dumbass.”
He grinned. “I’ll go get that paint.”
“See you soon,” you said softly.
Your tone made his heart flutter again, then he headed down the hallway. Along the way, he ran into Fives and Jesse.
Fives looked at Rex with suspicion, then grinned slyly and Rex knew there was trouble afoot with that expression.
“Don’t even start,” Rex said.
Fives laughed. “I’m not!”
“Then what were you thinking about?”
“Alright, you caught me. You were hanging out with the mechanic, weren’t you?”
Rex couldn’t help the slight blush at the tips of his ears.
“I knew it!” Fives whooped. “Still got no rizz, do you?”
“Huh?”
“Flirting skills. You have no flirting skills.”
Rex narrowed his eyes and Jesse couldn’t help the chuckle that escaped him.
“What are you planning?” asked Rex as he started for the paint in the supply closet near the armory.
“Well, here’s what I’m thinking…” said Fives as he and Jesse walked with Rex down the corridor.

The reality of a soulmate might show the cracks in a relationship
Warnings: Angst, tension
A/N: Oh my gosh it's been a while since I updated this story. I've had this written for a while but could never find the right transition so I decided to make it a little half chapter so I could work on the next scene I have in mind. Anyways thank you guys for being so patient with these updates, I've been swamped with three jobs and school starting soon.

“I have to go Rex,” You said throwing your things into a bag, “Something went wrong with the last shipment,”
“What?” You have to leave right now?” He asked, propping himself up on his elbows from his side of the bed, “It’s the middle of the night,”
“Blame the damn Coruscant Port Authorities,” You murmured. You could feel his eyes on you even in the dark as you moved around the room, collecting random papers you knew you would need.
You looked back at him once, right before you were about to exit. His eyes told you everything. You were skipping out on him again. His soulmate, the one thing in the galaxy that he thought made him special, was leaving him in the dark, alone, for the fourth time in the last week. It wasn’t any better when the other three nights he had been called in by his general for help.
“I wish I could stay,” was all that came out.
Of course you had more that you wanted to say. You probably could’ve talked to him until the sun came up in the morning but there was no time.
The last couple of months living together had been a mix of the best dreams and your worst nightmares, at least when he was planet side. The best were the small moments you had together, when you could almost feel your soulmate marks pull you closer to him. When he would make the both of you breakfast(technically your dinner), right after you got home from a long night and he would just be getting ready to start his day. Or him telling you about all the planets he had been to on his latest campaign, something you could never imagine having not even been to the top level of Coruscant.
The worst was when you were rushing out to catch your shipments before port authorities got their hands on them or when he had to work a shift at the Port Quarters. The two of you had quickly learned that there was a very thin line in your relationship. One that wasn’t meant to be crossed. It was the only thing in your relationship that you avoided like the blue shadow virus: Neither of you ever talked about your work.
It was simple in theory. Rex wouldn’t talk about any of his missions and you wouldn’t tell him about any of your dealings in the underworld.
Yet, nothing ever worked out to be what it seemed. Power dynamics and politics were constantly changing in the senate which always affected both of your works.
You could see the political power grab from the Supreme chancellor a mile away. It made your job harder as the senate started cracking down on not only the separatists, but also crime syndicates, gangs, and black market trading. Something they would’ve never touched before the war.
Rex had also mentioned how thin his men were spread as it seemed he sent a different unit to a different planet every week.
It seemed like the two of you were being pulled in different directions every day, only the thin tie of your matching tattoos keeping you together.
“Bye, I’ll miss you,” was all you said before heading out the door, not waiting to hear what Rex said.

The lack of people pointing out the fact that the clone models are clearly still whitewashed just because you got to see Rex again makes me wonder if you all really care about inclusion and not erasing Temuera's Maori heritage or anything at all and instead you're just trying to put on this "i'm progressive" façade, be it for your own sense of superiority or to not get a spanking from the blogs who do speak out against the whitewashing.
Evaluate your own biases, especially when it's about the things that you like and enjoy, before you spew hate at some fans and then turn around to do or enjoy the same things you condemn so fervently.
Unwhitewash The Bad Batch. Unwhitewash all the clones.
And don't be hypocrites while you're fighting for this cause, you only end up giving it a bad name.
(Image ID: a meme consisting of four quadrants. Top left: an image of Hunter from The Bad Batch. Top right: an image of a woman making a disgusted face saying: i can't believe the animators did nothing about the whitewashing i hate this model even if the skin is brown the features are still eurocentric). Bottom left: an image of Captain Rex from Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi. Bottom right: an image of a woman making an interested face saying "ooh rex". End ID)

The Speederbike - Part 2
Plot: Rex’s flirting skills leave something to be desired, but that’s what happens when he takes advice from someone else.
Warnings: Awkward flirting
Word Count: 1432
Author’s Note: Were both parts written all at once? Yes. No descriptions or names for the reader included.

Part 2
When Rex returned, he decided to try out what Fives had told him. After all, he wasn’t going to get anywhere by doing what he was.
He set the cans down by the workbench, then walked over to you and crouched beside you. You backed away from the speederbike for a moment, then sneezed into your elbow.
“Are you alright?” he asked, accidentally causing you to jump. “Sorry. You didn’t get sick while I was gone, did you? There is something going through the ranks, you haven’t caught anything have you?”
You shook your head. “It’s just dust. I’m okay. I am up to date on my vaccinations, too.”
Rex blinked, then tried to hide the blush rising in his cheeks. “Right, yeah. I’m glad you’re up to date. It would be a shame if you got sick.”
He paused, then remembered what Fives said about flirting and took a breath. “But, if you did get sick, I wouldn’t mind taking care of you.”
Your eyes widened. “Huh?”
Rex was in too far to stop, so he kept going. “I just mean I’d be the most attentive caregiver?”
“Uh… I’m okay, but thanks.” You frowned, then got back to working on the bike. Rex watched for a moment, wondering if he had gone too far.
“But I could make you soup and help you if you were.”
“I’m okay.” You turned away.
Suddenly, he realized he had definitely gone way too far. “Sorry,” he whispered, stepping back. “I never should have taken advice from Fives.”
Rex walked away from you and sat at the workbench, his head lowered in embarrassment. He didn’t notice you had stood up and walked over to him.
“Rex?” you said softly.
“I’m sorry,” Rex said quietly, looking down at his hands as he fiddled with his gloves. “I never should have taken advice on flirting from Fives. Usually his tactics are undeniable. But for something like this… I’m just not the right one to do it.”
You hummed in amusement. “Yeah, Fives’ tactics off the battlefield usually only work for him.”
“I’m so sorry I upset you with my flirting. I’m an absolute mess. I’m not a smooth-talking, suave guy.”
You sat on the stool beside him. “Maybe next time you just act like you. Be yourself.”
“Do you think you could forgive me?”
A soft smile crossed your face. “Yeah. I can forgive you.”
He smiled back a little. “Thank you.”
You bit your lower lip, causing his heart to speed up a bit, then you said, “Meet me here tomorrow, okay? The bike’s all fixed up, but it still needs to be painted.”
He looked up from his hands again, a bit surprised at your invitation, and was surprised further by the mischievous twinkle in your eye. “Yeah. Yeah, I’ll be here bright and early.”
“See you then, Rex.” You stood up, then left the bay.
“Bye,” he whispered. Rex watched until you were gone, then chewed on his lower lip, replaying everything in his mind. Relief flooded his body since his attempt at flirting hadn’t completely ruined things.
. . .
Morning arrived and so did he bright and early like he said. He had expected to be there before you, but you were there first. You had cleaned the dirt off the speederbike and prepped it for painting already.
“Hey,” he said softly and you turned to him, smiling.
“Good morning, Rex. Grab the paint and we can get started. Do you want this thing to stand out, or just to have accents?”
Rex paused, thinking carefully, then said, “Just accents. We still want to be able to get into enemy territory far enough without being noticed.”
“And the noise won’t be a problem?” you chuckled teasingly.
He laughed. “Okay, well maybe, but that’s not the point.”
“You’re the boss, Cap. Shall we?”
He smiled softly as he looked at you holding up a paintbrush with a smile back. If he tried, he could imagine that this was a project far away from the war, just between the two of you, no expectations on either of you. He grabbed a paintbrush, too.
“So,” you said. “What design are you thinking of?”
He made a decision and with that, the painting began. Every so often, he caught you glancing at him. You also caught him glancing at you upon occasion as well. The smell of the paint wasn’t overwhelming, but it certainly was strong. It wasn’t going to drive him away from you, though. It took a couple of coats on the lines and careful details, but finally, it was done.
“Now, we just have to name this beauty. Any ideas?” you asked.
He thought for a moment. The name had to be special and he almost said your name but decided against it just in case you didn’t think it was funny. Finally, he just went with his gut. “Speed Demon?”
You laughed. “For some reason, it just had a glimpse of you driving this through Coruscant past Commander Fox, playfully saluting him as he watches it all happen in slow motion. It would probably drive him nuts.”
Rex brightened up. “Then it’s perfect.”
He watched as you painstakingly started to paint the letters on, admiring your hands, the face you made in concentration, and the way you absentmindedly wetted your lower lip with your tongue. He swallowed thickly at the sight, suddenly wishing he had the guts to ask you out again.
When you backed away from the speederbike finally, you sat beside him and smiled. “Now, we wait for it to dry and then we can put a protective covering on the paint.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah.”
Before he knew what was happening, you raised the fine-point paintbrush and dabbed a tiny bit of black paint on the tip of his nose. His eyes widened in surprise.
“What do you think you’re doing?” he asked, a bit of wonder in his tone as he looked at you curiously.
You chuckled. “My very best.”
He smiled. After a moment’s pause, he said, “You know the best part of this?”
“What is the best part of this?”
“The time I got to spend with you,” he said quietly, his shyness surging again. “Spending time with someone I care for a lot.”
Your smile turned shy and his heart sped up a little. “I care very much for you, too, Rex,” you said, your tone just as quiet as his.
He says your name softly, then fiddles with his gloves again.
“Rex,” you responded just as gently. You were very close now. His face warmed, and so did the tips of his ears. He swallowed thickly as his stomach did a somersault. Why could he face droidekas and Separatists, but you could reduce him to a melted mess by not doing anything?
He said your name again, then bit his lower lip. “Would it… maybe could I… I’d really like to kiss you…” he whispered. The blood pounded in his ears as he waited for your answer, looking at your face properly just in time to see a smile on your lips. Time almost froze as he waited for your answer.
“Please,” you whispered.
Slowly, he reached his hands up to touch the side of your neck and your cheek, softly touching you before leaning in. The second his lips touched yours, he sighed softly. Your lips began to move against his and he held you close, kissing you back. The rush through his body made all that time worth the wait.
A moment passed and he begrudgingly pulled back, then chuckled softly as he caught sight of the small paint smudge on your cheek and realized it came off his nose. You looked at him with confusion and you gently wiped away the paint from your cheek as you glanced at the rest of the paint on his nose.
With a smile, you said, “This day has been perfect.”
“The only thing that would make it better is if you would be my partner,” he said quietly. “But I’m not sure if that’s appropriate for me to ask.”
You smiled and kissed him softly, melting his worries again for a moment. Then, you said, “Technically, I think the general is my boss since I’m part of this experimental civvie program?”
Rex smiles. “Maybe I can ask?”
“And maybe I can say yes?” you replied teasingly.
“That would be perfect,” he said and kissed you again, not caring about the paint still on his nose. He was yours now, and now the day was definitely perfect.

Guys Tup is probably my favorite clone, I love how he's anxious about battles (probably because of his inhibitor chip being weird, because the clones are designed to withstand stress) but my favorite used to be captain rex and he kind of still is, idk I just feel like he's kind of a Mary sue, but he's still cute AF tho (like his personality) because he just woke up and was a captain one day without them showing him at lower ranks, idk why no one ever points this out, it's a really big character flaw for me and you all just love him and not acknowledge his bad writing at times? Same with Cody, out of the main star wars characters rex has no backstory and no one ever gets as mad about this as me
