✨lewis hamilton’s most underrated mercedes drives ✨🏎️

as promised, part 2 with some mercedes drives (by all means not an exhaustive list, but at the very least i hope, a worthy one); lewis’ mclazza drives collection for those interested: here

fav lil’ guy finally free from the clutches of ron dennis and mclaren, handed some rocketships, reunited with blond guy named nico and entering his domination era; live laugh love achieving zen era comes much later; this is lewis hamilton who is ready to fight god and anyone who stands in his way; there’s a ruthlessness to him and his driving, which he will use and he will use it well, he’s talented and good, you watch lewis in a car that can perform and it’s just such a pleasure to witness what he is capable of doing; he is a racer, first and foremost, and he is obsessed with winning, i mean obsessed, the way he celebrates every single win like it’s his very first; he loves and bleeds this sport, even if it can be incredibly cruel to him (and still is, to this day). and btw still the king of the fucking circus, don’t you forget it. chasing your own destiny and creating a myth out of your legacy, you know when david bowie said i always had a repulsive need to be something more than human… yeah lewis who’s afraid of not doing enough, of not being enough, he cannot remain human, he must be something more, he needs to be the best and he wants it more, and you know for a man who has ‘divine love’ tattooed on his hand, what does a narrative mean? for someone who believes that what he does is an art form and who describes racing as a spiritual experience, one must presume there is some form of divinity he believes he can obtain,,,anyway 🙃, allons-y:

hungary 2014 🇭🇺 aka the usual hamilton hungarian cook sesh’ (he’s a bit insane around this track ngl)

arguably his most underrated non-win drive; pitlane start to p3 and features radio gold such as ✨i’m not slowing down for nico ✨💅 iconique if you ask me; the racing gods decided to plague him with brake issues and a hot seat burning his ass on top of his car already catching on fire during quali (give this guy a break lmao); everything was against him, and he still got a podium. also his overtakes during this race...and specifically THAT overtake on jev *chefs kiss*. i also endorse his criminal behaviour and his last-lap shenanigans with nico as well. 10/10 no notes.

silverstone 2015 🇬🇧 aka cloud watching pays off

lewis at silverstone. yeah. but add a bit of spice in the form of english weather™️. instincts of a man from stevenage and one prescient decision to pit for inters at just the right time before the heavens opened and you get a win by 11 seconds ahead of the next guy and a whole field of cars scrambling in the wet. luck or genius? they asked. 'i can see the clouds over stowe'. he saw the clouds and nico approaching, pulled the trigger on lap 43 and won the race, so you tell me. also features some celebratory donuts (he was so happy after the race, silverstone means a lot to him and you can really tell) and bono soaking wet on the podium 😁

brazil 2016 🇧🇷 aka the interlagos saga continues

whatever max verstappen was doing to nico rosberg in this race is one thing (objectively hilarious), but lewis hamilton, you see he won that race; babes after the race said he was watching the screens around the track while driving in the brazilian downpour, unbothered, incredibly moisturised, happy, very much in his lane, focused and flourishing; and as mentioned in lewis’ underrated mclaren drives post, lewis at interlagos is special, the lore, the myth of it all runs deep, and this is the first time he’s won! in the pouring rain, while trailing in a championship he will eventually lose, he’s finally achieved a dream he’s had: winning in brazil; the red flag period also features baby sharl nervously glancing at lewis in the haas garage (who’d have thought they’d trauma bond over a dsq in austin 7 years later…)

abu dhabi 2016 🇦🇪aka anarchy

yes, i included this race because i stand with my cancelled wife; they were calling for his ass to be fired after the race, paddy lowe was screaming in his ear to speed the hell up, blasphemy, heresy, how dare he disobey his team, how dare he want to win the championship! anyway, like yeah ofc it wasn’t entirely respectful, but it’s racing at the end of the day; a driver will prioritise himself, and lil’ war criminal lewis, i adore you very much (he had horner defending him lmfao while torger was sending him to red bull); the shitstorm in the media afterwards, goodness gracious tho; no wonder lewis and toto needed a sit-down in toto’s kitchen lol; but it’s such a beautifully well-managed race; of course he could go faster, of course he knew exactly what he was doing slowing down and speeding up in just the right places…all in one desperate but masterful attempt at winning the championship; in the end, it wasn’t in his hands, but it is still a great race to watch purely for the mind fuckery and mercedes being absolutely pissed. also, it’s very much an end of an era.

monza 2018 🇮🇹 aka one man and his machine against a nation of ~60 million people

maybe 'underrated' is the wrong word to use for this one in all honesty, people give his ‘18 post-summer break run its due honours, because this is lewis destroying the hopes and dreams of the tifosi, sebastian vettel and the ferrari establishment with maurizio arrivabene at the helm race by race, lap by lap; it’s lewis at arguably, his strongest yet, he danced in that w09, those magnificent quali laps, those races that he dominated from start to finish...but monza, oh monza, maybe there’s something so poetic about that race and starting the run of domination in ferrari land; it’s got lewis vs kimi!!! nostalgia merchants will absolutely adore this one because it’s just like those ‘07 races, also brilliant strategy from merc and lewis and his incredible, jaw-dropping race pace driving like a man possessed

hungary 2019 🇭🇺 aka the infamous one that inspired spain '21

when lewis arrives at the hungaroring, you know the man is about to cook something worthy of a michelin star. add a two-stop strategy masterclass from one james vowles and you get an absolute classic of a race and if you know what happened just a week earlier (the trials and tribulations of hockenheim), it also feels like redemption; two cars fighting for the win, lewis banging in quali lap after quali lap as he hunts down max; clinical, faultless, and brilliant and it’s such a satisfying race to rewatch (bonus: there’s also jv on the podium and lewis looking incredibly proud)

spain 2020 🇪🇸 aka the pure brilliance of lewis and the w11

jallison’s monster, w11. when she first appeared in fp1 on a friday morning in southeastern austria, best believe the first notes of the imperial march already sounded prophetically around the styrian alps. an icon, a legend, she was the moment and we miss her dearly. pair her with one lewis hamilton, a man on a mission both on track and off it, and you will produce sexiness. purple helmet + black w11 legendary combo, the sheer cunt serving, the audacity, THE presence; i could mention any race from 2020 (notably, tuscany and portugal bc they fly under the radar as well in terms of lewis' performances) but i will add spain to this list, mostly because of what lewis said post-race about what he experienced during the race and why it epitomises the brillance of him as a driver: "i was just in a daze out there", "i was in a different zone then, didn't know it was the last lap" ; you don't reach perfection, but you chase it (as he also mentioned in the press-co), but there's something quite sublime in seeing him deliver such a performance, when he himself is left well, stunned; this is the race that could be lewis hamilton's 90 minute masterclass on tyre management.

More mystery with portraits of Hasburgs

These two paintings are located in different museums, but are believed to be once a part. Currently they are labelled currently as Philip of Austria and Margaret of Austria, 1483, by Master of Legend of Magdalene.

And it's kind of a problem. Because at least the boy doesn't look like early work of this artist at all! Not even remotely close.

So other artists have been suggested instead, and for example the girl's has been most recently labelled as by Pierre Coustain.

Which doesn't make any sense either. Because while this was court artist in Burgundy, he specialized in making coat of arms and flags, sculptures etc. Like we can speculate on Pierre Coustain's involvement in these portraits(figures by Pieter van Coninxloo):

But only about the coats of arms. This guy wasn't portraitist.

...And you know me, I am nitpicker. I my motto is:

Never trust period label...because often times they are added centuries later.

So of course I checked the labels. On first glance, they seem as very genuine. This form of letters was around in 15 and 16th century.

...So I needed some help reading it, but luckily on wikipedia it was in description of paintings.

Girl's:

Gedaen Int Jaer ons here 1483 tsinen v en Jaerre/FAT LAN M.IIII.C.IIII.XX ET TROIS QUE LORS AUOIT TROIS ANS ET TROIS MOIS)

This was created in 1483 and she is 3 years and 3 months old.

(Very specific...oddly so.)

Gedaen Int Jaer ons here 1483 tsinen v en Jaerre / Fat Lan m. III c. IIII xx. z trois ou ve. an de son eage.

Once again it says year 1483, but that Philip is 3 or 5 years old.

Like how does nobody question this? You cannot be specific to month with girl, and not know how old the boy was!

Unless the label is not original at all! And likely not even done in 15th century. Because at those days, labels weren't really popular. They took off mainly in 16th century. And given the amount of mistakes I doubt Margaret nor Philip were even alive when this occured.

Because have they been, somebody would take greater care in getting it correct!

(And, If the text is from much later it is damn well-made.)

So if text is untrust-worthy, the dating of 1483 is also untrust-worthy, and then we cannot even be sure it is Philip or Margaret!

And though the boy doesn't fit Master of Legend's early work, he damn sure looks very alike to his late work! (1510-1527)

But then these kids cannot be royals from Netherlands. This is not its fashion from 16th century. We have portraits of Philip's kids raised in Netherlands, we know what they wore.

And while, yes the girl's hat looks bit like 1460-1470s male hats worn in netherlands, girls didn't wore this I checked. And given Netherlands were already back then northern capital of painters. It's very unlikely it wouldn't appear in art of that time from that country.

So possibly these are foreign royalty. But whom?

Well, artist started working around 1480/1490 and stopped about 1527. (Assuming we have correct artist.)

And the boy wears order of golden fleece around his neck. And clearly he is not adult. List of knights of Order of Golden fleece is on wikipedia and it includes when people got it and their birth year.

So finding people who got it before age of 15 in corrrect timeframe wasn't that hard.

Six candidates:

Philip of Austria (who it is currently identified as)

Henry VIII

Charles V

Ferdinand I, Holy Roman Emperor

Louis II, King of Bohemia and Hungary

Philibert of Chalon

But at age of 14 and 13, Henry VIII and Philibert are simply too old...to be depicted here. And Louis II's sister was older than he. And we know what Charles and his sisters raised in Netherlands wore.

Thus if not Philip and Margaret, the only other valiable option is Ferdinand and Catherine of Austria.

(if the list of candidates was complete...)

And it just so happens that if you put correct dimensions to these(in cm), and put them in order of birth, they don't look so weird...

Potentially this might have once been full set of siblings.

Done firstly around 1507(first four)

and rest after 1515, when Ferdinand became the member of the order.

...And if we compare what the girl wears with spanish fashion, then at least in examples from 1490s similiar hats were popular(not as much raised, but we always see them on adults. Maybe then the raise is not so high, and traluscent veils of this kind even much later(those are with cofia de tranzado)...this shape of neckline, also very popular in Spain at least around turn of the century.

In my research into iberian fashion, i didn't go that much into fashion after 1505(not in debt) and it's not ideal that I point to examples about 20 years prior to when I think it might be.

But it is a possibility, and would explain the resemblence.

...

However then we have to assume 2 more possibilities.

A) the list of knights of order of fleece was not complete...and we're missing candidates...and then once again, where does the fashion point us?...Spain in case of girl...

B) But what if the boy and girl don't belong together?

What if they just had same background(popular in Burgundian/Netherlandish court from 1450? to about 1507)

and same dimensions(by chance, or they were later cut to make them same dimensions)?

(C)what if both options? L)ist wasn't complete and boy and girl don't belong together?

Well, the boys who got orders of golden fleeces as kids were usually royalty, with whom Hasburgs had friendly relationship.

We know Margaret's portraits were created in early to mid 1490s, likely to be sent to Spain, and probably Philip's also.

But what if Spanish send reply? And Hasburgs send their own painter, to paint Spanish royal children? That would also explain resemblence to Joanna's children. Because boy would have to be her brother, and girl Joanna herself.

Again, the boy seems to be later work of the master, but it was a workshop. It is possible one of its member simply became more prominent later in workshop's lifetime and it happened to be him who was sent to paint the boy.

And i cannot get further than this. Dendrology would be helpful here.

However as these portraits have year upon them, the institutions who own them think they have the correct date already. We can only hope they decide to test it anyway.

Why can you not just support human rights? What is the problem?

Those were my first reactions when UEFA refused to light the Allianz Arena in rainbow colours before Germany’sEuro 2020 match against Hungary, citing the “political context”. Later, it banned rainbow ads at two of the quarter-finals. Then, I saw the scenes from Baku, where security appeared to confiscate a rainbow flag from two Denmark supporters.

I am a proud gay athlete and am in a relationship with my Chelsea team-mate Pernille Harder. We are among the most visible gay couples in the women’s game. When my country, Sweden, beat Canada in the last 16 of the Women’s World Cup two years ago, I found Pernille in the stands at the Parc des Princes and kissed her. We didn’t even know anyone was watching but a photo of us went viral. Only then did we understand how powerful we are together, the impact we can make.

The Euros provided such a huge platform for UEFA to put its foot down, making it clear that all lives are equal and that human rights are not up for debate. But all this makes me think — does this mean that my life is worth less than someone else’s? Than someone who is living the norm, living a different lifestyle? Are they more worthy than me just because of who I’m in love with?

In the past few weeks, I’ve been trying to read a lot about the other side’s views and trying to understand the controversy. Why couldn’t they just show the rainbow colours? Why is that considered political? Human rights shouldn’t ever be political but the problem is that, historically, we have allowed them to become so. There are countries where gay rights are just common sense and we need to spread the message that human rights should be accepted everywhere.

While I was researching, I found lots of people arguing that sports and politics shouldn’t be combined, and footballers shouldn’t be activists — and it’s not just in England, nor is it just about the rainbow flag. In my home country, lots of people also hold the view that footballers should just stick to football. There are lots of views on what athletes should and shouldn’t do when everyone else on the street is allowed their opinions.

Footballers taking the knee have faced criticism all season, especially in the build-up to the Euros. As footballers, our activism ranges fromthe work of Marcus Rashford in changing lawsto people like Romelu Lukaku andRaheem Sterling standing up against racism, and in doing so, helping to form young children’s views on right and wrong. Pernille and I are part of Common Goal and pledge one per cent of our incomes to a charity that is helping LGBTQ+ youth in sport.

But none of this is about politics. It’s about challenging perceptions and views, changing how we treat each other, deciding what’s OK and what isn’t. If you want to call that politics, fine, but then, in my view, everything is then politics. You can’t put a finger on what’s politics and what’s not.

One of the questions I kept coming back to was, “What difference does it make to have a footballer as an activist?” I don’t think the critics understand the impact we have on individual’s lives.

For the millions of kids following footballers all over the world, how we act and what we say matters deeply to them. I have amazing social media followers who write to me constantly and I have always felt a responsibility to speak up for them and protect them. Right now, with the rainbow flag controversy descending into a discussion about human rights, I feel that responsibility more than ever.

On Valentine’s Day, Pernille and I opened our private messages on social media for those who are struggling to tell their friends and their families that they are gay. It took us a few days to get back to all the messages but we wanted to make a difference — a real difference. We know that being open helps people but we could do more, too.

I could feel what an impact it had. So many people just wanted to have a chat and just talk to someone. It made you realise what we are doing. We help people all over the world feel more secure about themselves and just accept themselves for who they are. It inspired me to keep going because you realise how much being yourself means to people who can’t, for whatever reason, be themselves.

Even if I don’t change anything on a big political stage, the possibility of making one person’s life a little bit easier means that being an activist is 100 per cent worth it. I know how much it means to our fans that Pernille and I are open about our sexuality, showing the world that our relationship is normal and should be accepted. It’s always been really important for me to stand up for what I stand for and keep my integrity. If I want to have my say, nothing will stop me from doing that. I have my platform and I want to use it.

But the bigger question is: are human rights even a political question? I don’t believe that they should be. Of course it should be acceptable to stand up for human rights. In my head, that’s a non-issue. It’s bizarre. It’s not about being political at all but so many countries have laws that make it so.

Pernille and I saw the news last month that the Hungarian parliament passed new anti-LGBTQ+ legislation criminalising education and advertising of LGBTQ+ content to young people. There have been other regressive laws in Russia and Poland. It’s frightening, plain and simple. Society isn’t always moving forward and taking new steps.

And it’s like that in a lot of places in the world. Still, to this day in 2021, it’s not accepted in the world for me to love the person I love. How can it be OK to have a rainbow flag or rainbow advertisement in Denmark but not in Hungary or Azerbaijan? That’s why it’s really important that we raise our voices now and we say that all this is not OK.

It’s not about a political question — it is about human rights, and human rights should be the same all across the world. That is my dream and if anyone goes away from it, it should be an outrage.

It scares me because in London, Pernille and I are allowed to be out and proud. People, however they identify, write to us that they cannot be open with their sexuality. Even if you live in Sweden or England, it is still tough to come out; there is still a process of telling people about your sexuality.

Even in the most accepting environment, it’s still so difficult. Imagine it as a sliding scale, with coming out ranging from difficult to impossible. For those in countries where it’s illegal — I can’t even imagine how that would feel.

Those people who tell us to stick to football also overlook the impact the sport can have in changing views and mindsets. It is a wonderful tool to show everyone that no matter your skin colour, background or sexuality, you’re welcome here.

For me, that’s what the rainbow flag stands for — that diversity, and everyone, is accepted. It’s worth remembering that only seven or eight years ago you never saw a rainbow flag in football. Now you see captains wearing rainbow armbands and I saw some of the England players wearing rainbow laces for their game against Ukraine last week.

We need football to push for diversity, equality and anti-discrimination in all its forms. Hopefully, football will one day become an environment where a male player feels comfortable enough to come out and tell the world that he is gay but that can only happen when the environment around that person is safe enough, and that moment is clearly not now.

It has become very obvious during these Euros that we have a long way to go and I’d never put any pressure on any individual when the environment is like this. Can anyone look at the environment and think that our work is done — that football doesn’t have a role to play in making a change?

Women’s football is far more open and accepting when it comes to sexuality, but we do talk in the canteen and the dressing room about what needs to change in men’s football for someone to come out. Pernille and I care about it a lot, so we are always asking questions of each other and other people.

And we know that it is scary — every time you speak out, you know that there is going to be a backlash. You have to remember the other side, the people that will praise you and be thankful for what you’re doing. But the hate threats, which we see all over social media, are real and a reminder that you are taking a risk in speaking out.

But for me, the reward is higher than the risk. I want to spread my message and I want to normalise the values that I have, regardless of whether people agree with me or not. The world would be a better place if people were more accepting and diverse.

Australia

"But the way George had his arm around her says otherwise!" Carlos argues with Lando, who had his arms folded, standing in front of him.

They're all in Lando's room, piled on the bed like teenagers talking about puppy love. Well, it was exactly that. Just that this wasn't puppy love... and they weren't exactly teenagers...

"And? You almost kissed the woman! And for crying out loud, it's George, they're siblings, they used to live together. That's why they act like that." Lando tells him.

Charles also chimes in, "Mate, just ask her out and see how it goes."

Carlos has a skeptical look on his face, “Like, a date?"

"Yes, like a date, Carlos. How else would you ask her out?"

"Why are you so nervous anyway, it's not as if it's your first time asking her out." Lando asks.

He furrows his brows, "I don't know- she's just special."

"Then ask her out - and make her feel special."

Last push to the chequered flag - she’s right behind the other silver arrow. A grin forms across her face, knowing that this would be good.

“And that's P4, nicely done Sofía."

"Yes guys!” She can hear the screams and cheering in the garage, “Thank you to everyone, especially those back at the factory. We will only move forwards from here."

“Sofía, Toto here. I’m so proud of you for this, enjoy your first top 5.”

She pulls in at the Parc Ferme, climbing out of the car and running towards George who was already celebrating with the team. They hug tightly and he lifts her off the floor.

"That was a good one, Georgie. P3!” She pats his helmet.

"Have to say the same for you too, Sof."

She looks around to see where Carlos was, "what happened to the Ferraris?"

"Charles is right there-“ George points at the race winner, but then he watches her look around more and he knows what she actually means.

"Carlos didn't finish from what I've heard."

She frowns, pulling off her helmet, "Oh damn, that must've sucked."

But Sofía didn’t have time to think about it.

She’s being thrown in all different directions after the race, with every single media outlet wanting a piece of her.

First top five of her rookie season. - everyone knew she was something. Sofía looks around occasionally, but doesn't see Carlos once in the media pen; she could only presume he was done with his duties after not completing the race.

So she focused on entertaining the reporters with her well practiced lines, one by one.

"It was a good battle out there, enjoyed every moment of it."

"Can't wait to see what the future races hold."

"Fingers crossed we get to produce the same results again."

And by the time she's done, she had exhaustion written all over her face.

"They really don't consider the fact that we've been driving for more than an hour straight huh." She rubs her neck, entering the motorhome. Emily hands her a post-race protein shake, and she meets with George who had also just come in.

"Debrief's in 10, and we'll head out for some dinner tonight?" Emily tells them both. They both agree, then head off to their driver rooms.

Eventually, they make it back to the hotel, with less than an hour to get ready. Sofía was in a robe choosing her dress, when George had let himself into her room with his spare key, having showered and changed quicker.

"Help me with this while I change?" She hands him a tangled silver necklace. He gladly takes it, beginning to work on the jewellery.

Sofía was stood in front of a mirror zipping up her dress when the doorbell rings.

"I'll get it," Sofía tells George, assuming it was Emily at the door. But no, Carlos was standing in front of her, hands in his pockets. She couldn’t help but smile at the sight of him.

"Carlos, to what do I owe this pleasure?”

He was dressed in a button up shirt and jeans, a nervous look on his face.

"Can I take you out to dinner? To celebrate your first top 5." He asks- or blurts.

Before Sofía could respond, Carlos hears a voice shout from behind her.

"I untangled it!" George then emerges, in a striped shirt and khaki pants, holding a silver necklace in his hands. The air seems to be caught in Carlos' lungs as the scene unfolds in front of him. Carlos looks to George, then to Sofía, and he came to a realisation at what was happening.

She clears her throat, taking the necklace from George's hand,

"Um actually we're going out to celebrate, do you-"

"No no no!" George cuts her off, "go along with him."

"I can always come back another-" Carlos interjects, but is quickly cut off.

"Carlos, no please - take her out. God knows she hangs out way too much with us Merc boys."

Sofía frowns, "Are you sure? we can always go together-"

"Sof,” George warns, “there will be many more top fives that we can share. Just go with Carlos." He gives her a knowing look, one that tells her she shouldn’t argue any further.

"Alright," She smiles at Carlos who's standing a little awkwardly by the door. He was reconsidering his every moves, but it was too late to take any of them back.

"Let me get my bag, do you want to come in?" She stands aside, and George takes his cue to leave.

He gives her a side hug and a peck on the top of her head, which rubs Carlos the wrong way.

"I'll see you later." George tells her.

"Text me okay? And don't have too much fun, you know what Toto said." She warns, a playful smile on her face.

"I will, and you," George turns to Carlos, "have fun with this one. Take care of her will ya?"

"I sure will mate."

"I'm sorry I didn't think about asking in advance-" Carlos starts to ramble after George left.

Sofía just chuckles at him, "It's fine Carlitos, I enjoy hanging out with you. But in order for us to leave this room, could you help with my necklace?"

He scrambled to help her when he realises she's been trying to clasp the silver jewellery together for god knows how long. And he's that close to her neck - where the scent of her perfume is overpowering his senses. He’s focused on the way the dress is hugging her waist, flaring out at the hips- and Sofía catches him staring, a smirk on her face when his eyes meet hers in the mirror.

Get it together Carlos, clasp the damn necklace.

They leave the hotel room together to get to Carlos' Ferrari, and they make it successfully to his car without getting caught by any fans; then taking a short drive to a quaint restaurant Carlos had chosen. They are settled at the back, out of the public's eye, courtesy of the waitresses who were big fans of Formula One.

“I’ll come back shortly to take your orders,” the waitress tells them.

"So..." Sofía sighs, looking up from the menu at Carlos, "I'm sorry about your race."

Carlos lets out a humourless laugh, "it's alright, things happen. We're here to celebrate you!"

"I know, it's just- I feel bad that we're here on a date-"

Carlos smirks at her, and Sofía feels her face start to burn.

"Cariña, don't worry. I'm okay, tonight is all about you, and your first P4 of the season." He looks down at the menu, "enjoy the date."

The food arrives shortly after, and they begin to dig in. Of course Sofía exchanges banter with Carlos as they talk about the race, and how everything had been going for the last two rounds. She laugh and they flirt - albeit subtly, and things seem to go smoothly.

Until Carlos decided to drop the burning question in his mind.

"So you and George?"

Sofía hums in response, pushing around the vegetables she had on her plate.

"Are you guys... yknow? Or have you guys ever?..." He beats around the bush, and Sofía is well aware of what's happening.

Her expression changes, but Carlos couldn't read what it meant. He starts to panic, worried that he might've stepped into uncharted territories.

"You don't have to tell me if you-"

"No no, it's okay. George and I..." Sofía puts her fork down, "well nobody knows this besides maybe my parents, but yeah we've dated. For a couple of months we tried, and obviously with the W series and him struggling in Williams..."

Carlos' face drops, and his mind runs through the million possibilities of 'Sofía and George'.

"At the end of 2021, we didn't expect to be in Mercedes together, but life works in mysterious ways." She shrugs, pushing the plate forwards. Her eyes meet Carlos', and she can see the doubt in his eyes.

"But Carlos," She leans forward, taking his hand in hers, “George and I - we're just friends now. Nothing more than that."

Carlos nods slowly, squeezing her hand in his. And he believes her, or more so he wants to believe her - when he sees the sincerity in her eyes, the way they shine under his gaze.

After a post-dinner stroll to the car, they make their way back to the hotel. It was a miracle they weren't stopped by anyone along the way; and Sofía was thankful that for now - she was somewhat lowkey, not as popular as most drivers on the grid, and she could enjoy a night like this, uninterrupted.

They both get to her floor, and make their way to Sofía's room, Carlos' hand resting on her lower back. It had been like this the entire walk, his hand resting there, a form of protection. She turns, her hands touching his biceps, a soft smile on her face.

This was his chance, to make up for that night, to seal the deal. And Sofía seems to have the same understanding as she leans towards him. Their foreheads are pressed together, and Carlos swears he's never felt his heart beating this hard out of his chest. Now or never.

He dips his head down, and their lips lock. The kiss was soft and gentle, yet full of sparks. He squeezes her hips and Sofía giggles like a child, pulling away.

"Tonight was nice." She whispers.

He pushes her hair behind her ear, "yeah it was,"

"I would love to do this again."

"You would?" He almost sounded surprised, and Sofía nods. A cheeky grin forms on Carlos' face,

"How about we celebrate, after Imola?"

Sofía raises her brows, "Oh, so confident we'd have something to celebrate huh?"

"There's always something to celebrate with you."

Oh boy was he about to be so wrong.

Imola

"You must be fucking kidding me..." She mutters when she passed the chequered flag. She knows this wasn't good, she knows that she'd fucked up when she was behind a Williams she had no recollection of lapping.

Bono’s voice echoes in her ears with bad news, “P13, Sofía. That's P13."

"What the hell happened to the progress we made?!" She slams her hand on the car. Silence follows her outrage.

The radio then crackles, and another voice follows,

"Sofía, it's Toto. I'm really sorry about that drive. Thank you for handling it the way you did."

"Yeah," She sighs, "I really hope we can find something more from this."

"Where did Carlos finish?" She asks Emily as they make their way to the media pen. She had slowed the walk down considerably, knowing the vultures that were ready to pick her apart in that enclosed pen. Emily seemed to understand as well, following Sofia’s pace as they talked and ignored the millions of cameras pointing at them.

"He didn't."

"Second time in a row?"

Emily nods, taking the water bottle from Sofia's hand. She frowns, looking around to see if she could spot him by any luck. But of course, he was no where to be found, and she had to plaster on her million dollar smile for the media.

After fulfilling her duties and a nice cold shower, she makes her way to the Ferrari motorhome, texting Carlos when she arrives outside.

Sofía: hey, wanna talk? I'm outside

Carlos: not now

A man of very few words, she thought.

She sighs, walking back to her own motorhome when another message comes in.

Carlos: i'm sorry. talk when we get back to the hotel, i'll come to yours.

Sofía: nothing to be sorry about, see you then :)

"Sof!" She hears someone call out. Sofía turns to see George jogging towards her. He has a sad smile on his face, slinging his arm around her shoulder for a side hug.

"We'll get 'em next time."

"Yeah, yeah we will." She instinctively wraps her arm around his waist, both of them walking like this back to the motorhome.

"Do you want to grab a quick dinner before we head back?" George asks. Sofia contemplates telling him about her plans, but she doesn't, not wanting to complicate things too early.

"Uh no, I think I'll head back early. I'll get room service."

George raises his brow, “do I need to worry about you wallowing in sadness?”

Sofia laughs sadly, shaking her head, “no you don’t Georgie, don’t worry about me.”

It's not long after Sofía gets back when Carlos knocks on her door.

"Hey," She breathes out, opening the door for him to walk through. He kisses her forehead as he walks in.

"I'm sorry about your race." Carlos starts.

"At least I got to finish." She says sympathetically, sitting next to him on the edge of the bed.

"You'll get there okay? You and the team." She tells him, her hand resting on top of his.

"I know- can we, can we talk about something else?"

Sofía nods, pulling out the room service menu for the both of them. Carlos picks out the food, while she puts on a film. They've never done this before, but it almost felt natural, the chemistry between them stronger ever since Australia.

Yet, one thing still floats on Carlos' mind - where does he stand? Since that evening, Carlos could not shake it off his mind - finding her and George in the same room all dressed up. Then she easily switches and goes on a date with him.

He knows he should trust her words, but how does the saying go? Actions speak louder than words - and right now her actions are speaking at a higher volume.

Despite all that in his mind, he doesn't bring it up to her, watching the film while room service food was sprawled all over the bed. They eat and enjoy the comfortable silence, the comfort of being together after a long day; until Sofía was passed out on one side of the bed, snoring softly.

Carlos gets up when he realises she was asleep, turning off the TV and placing the empty plates on the table. Then he hears a soft voice,

"Stay."

He pauses, thinking he was hearing it wrong, and proceeded to put the rest of the plates aside. Then he sees Sofía - propped up on the bed with her arms, her hair a standing mess and her eyes barely open,

"Stay here tonight, Carlos."

"I- but," He stumbles over his words, but Sofía just pushes back the covers, and pats the bed.

"Stay with me," She smiles softly. And Carlos obliges, smiling softly at her, slipping under the covers.

Okay so my husband @shockwavvvve decided to check out the state of political affairs for himself because I'm super Hella worried about it.

You can watch it here; a lot of it you've seen me post or reblog about. But Dead Domain really gives a whole picture of exactly what's going on in CPAC, and it's horrifying.

The choice between a senile old man who can't be bothered to push for a ceasefire in a genocide quickly enough and another senile old man who wants to install fascism and grift America is hardly an enviable one. But if Trump wins, there is literally never going to be another democratic election. We will literally have a christofascist managed democracy like Hungary or Russia if Project 2025 happens. I know this, but my husband didn't. Big s/o to Dead Domain, she's so real for this one and she also has a part two, but you really dont need to even watch all of part one to understand that the threat is fucking real.

The mental gymnastics are absurd. The talks start with how January 6 was a feds-backed false flag to frame MAGA as a domestic terrorist group to disenfranchise them, then two speakers later they say they're going to "finish what we started on January 6th." I am forever going to use Dead Domain's apt descriptor: key jangling rhetoric; it's all just a bunch of hot button words mangled together and don't make sense but get people riled up and under the delusion that they actually want fascism because they're afraid, and I cannot emphasize this enough, of people that are just different.

My husband identified as conservative until he saw just how horrific this was. Please share this with anyone who is unsure that the Republican Party is "really that extreme." We need to save democracy. This matters more than feeling awkward or losing friendships.

What are your top 5 books?

Ah well....this is a hard question and for a sad reason. I have no idea😂😅

Most of my so called fave books were my favourite years ago, so it's hard to tell if I still like them. For example Percy Jackson books, specifically the first one because ahh ✨Ares✨ of course, but I recently wanted to reread it again and couldn't even get to reaching camp.

Well anyways, what I know for sure is The Wolf Den by Elodie Harper. (By the way these aren't in order.) It was a unique read and I surprisingly liked it. I also read the next part and had high hopes for it but it flopped. 🥺 The covers are so pretty tho. It had a great vibe (this almost sounds like a red flag) and it basically follows the lives of prostitutes in Pompeii few years before the eruption.

Another one for sure is The song of Achilles (Madeline Miller) and while I usually don't like (khm I hate them) retellings this one was cute. It's been on my fave list for like 8 years and even rereading hasn't diminished it.

Then Prince's Gambit by C. S. Pacat from the captive prince trilogy and oh my gods. This has everything. The ancient Greece vibes, the enemies to lovers, the gayness😂😂😂(and the sex , the torture, the betrayals etc) I found this series by total accident and thank gods I did. I adore it.

Here I would normally mention one of the Pjo books (either 1st or 4th) but I can't do so now, and then I would mention one of the Eragon books but I also can't because it's been years without rereading them. (I always used to say Legendary from Stephanie Garner but I just recently reread it and I realised I no longer love it)

Sooo that leaves me questioning things. One that came to my mind is a Hungarian book. Aranyember - Jókai Mór (roughly translated: Golden man/gold man by Mór Jókai) It's a much hated book in Hungary (at least among students, I'm not sure if it's still obligatory or not anymore) because it's long and the writer has a unique style, where he makes every description soooo long but I adore it. It's a love story with a poor man falling in love with a rich girl and marrying her but then she's just saying yes out of obligation and she doesn't love him back etc etc. Then he falls in love with a poor girl and so he has double lives. He is also very very good with money so everything he invests in turns out so much better than expected and he gets very rich too. So basically just full of lies and love and agony and self debate. It's also not modern so it's set back in the old Hungary but that gives the charm. And damn it's just such a great book now I wanna watch the movie again too. 😭

The other I thought of is a short story to the Captive Prince trilogy. The Pet. Why? No idea. But I think it's great how it adds depth to a certain not so liked side character. After reading it I love him so so much. Also read one of the best fanfics for this book. Fuck that was so gooooood too.

Sadly I don't read as much as I should anymore or as I would want to.

If I really have to pick a legit book instead of the last one it would be The betrayals by Bridget Collins. Wonderful cover first of all. Made me buy it😂 I liked it, it was mysterious and a bit messy but not enough gay for me but oh well. Other honorary mention is Call me by your name and Find me by André Aciman. Beautiful stories. Nice writing. No other words.

Thanks for the ask. I really need to start reading better books because in the past year I mostly read thrillers and trash erotica or just yaoi😅 and none of those will ever hold me as close. On that note do you or anyone have any recs?

My mother was Polish and her whole side of family is in Poland. And my grandma from fathers side is from Czechia.

19. do you like your country’s flag and/or emblem? what about the national anthem?

A bit. Like it's nice and all. But it's really easy to be confused with other similar flags (Slovenia). Mainly because of Slavic tricolor. And it's bit weird that our state symbol is just half of Hungary's (not the best look after finally gaining independence from it). But I digress because it satisfies the need for state symbols.

My thoughts on Ferrari at the Dutch GP

This is a long post so strap in!

This race was a clusterfuck and a half, so let's start with Carlos.

Carlos

That horrendous pitstop happened because they called him in for a pit super late and the mechanics weren't ready. Which yk you could've waited an extra lap in that case but I guess not.

I still don't fully get why he got a penalty for the unsafe release because it wasn't really his fault that he had to swerve and brake to not run over the McLaren Mechanic.

But anyway, the next thing is the whole yellow flags giving the position back thing where again I don't get why they didn't do it.

I don't really have any explanations for that.

Race pace

I made a race pace plot for the top 3 teams here, but the TLDR is:

I have no idea what was up with Carlos, he was really weirdly off the pace today. Binotto said that they were going to check Carlos car for damage from the first lap because it was weird but it would have to be something not super visible.

Overall the Ferraris just had more tyre deg than Verstappen. And in general they had issues with the tyres.

I don't know if we can say that they "lost" pace to Merc per se because Merc were just for some reason insanely quick on the hards. They were quicker on the hards than they were on mediums and quicker than LEC and VER on mediums.

The hards then were also working fine for VER but not at all for LEC.

So there is a little it of maybe going medium to hards would've been the best strategy for everyone sprinkled in with some for some reason the hards don't work for Ferrari.

It might be that the TD reduced the setup window for the F1-75, it might be that they got a bit lost with the upgrades because there is also a little bit of a correlation there. I sadly don't have the answer to that. I wish I did.

I also have a little bit of a theory, but they did some seemingly big setup changes in FP3 and then never did any long runs anymore so that might've also surprised them.

Other stuff

They need to learn that the Alpine is absolutely not a reference for which tyres work on the Ferraris. Same as in Hungary the Alpines were some of the first to go on the hard tyre and were fine. And then it's a bit meh on the Ferrari. So no more Alpine as a reference especially not for the hards.

In general I think everyone was confused by the tyres this race (the hards are not supposed to be faster than the mediums) but Ferrari then thought that the hards were going to be faster on them too and that didn't really work out all that well.

Learn from RB!!!!!!! While I don't think that the unsafe release was fair the long pitstop already fucked Carlos race and it would be nice if they learnt from RB who really don't mind using Checo to try out the tyres if they are a little bit unsure of them.

They pitted Checo for the hards 8 laps before they did the same with Max and that gave them time to assess the performance of the tyres.

Ferrari pitted Charles two laps after Carlos. And that isn't enough to see if the tyre is working fine or not. And at that point Carlos race was already compromised so this wouldn't have done that much more damage.

Positives I guess?

I'm trying to end this on a positive note..

Merc are better at Ferrari-ing than Ferrari. Because in Silverstone Ferrari at least wanted to pit one and Merc didn't want to pit either under the SC.

Charles is getting more "demanding" on the radio regarding the pitstops and being told which tyres he is getting. And that is something that people really wanted to see.

He was also a lot more involved in the strategy chat in general!

Also, the Mercs were also only really faster on the hard compound in a weird way. And the hard compound used in Zandvoort the C1 is and has always been a really weird tyre.

Even Pirelli have said that it is too far away from the C2. So I guess the hope that I have is that this was a Merc + C1 situation and that it can look really different on different compounds.

I'm sure there will be more positives to find tomorrow but this is where I am today! Don't let it bring you down too much!

Hungaroring giveth after Paul Ricard become a good thing for once

Well, heyaaah!

I'm absolutely melting and apparently in Hungary is basically cold and shitty, so my plans of going to the Hungaroring in the future might be melting along with myself at the moment. Yes, I love rainy races but while I'm at home, preferably 😂

Now in all seriousness, that fucking cloud better not fuck with Lewis and George. Those clouds... me no likey 😅 Carlos' face during the Hungary anthem is sending me 😂

George starts perfectly defending like a fucking lion, I love my dear Giorgio he's so fucking good it hurts. But right after the start we have a Virtual Safety because Albon crashed into Seb and there was some debries, but after the Green Flag George just floored it like a mad man. Jesus Christ, this is too much.

Then we have fucking Lando pushing Lewis off track. I mean, kid, disappear already, I'm asking nicely. And when Alonso really needs to do his thing and keep Inbred Frog behind he flops. Are you kidding me?

Norris flopping when Lewis passed him and being passed also by Verstapppen, I mean... Meh. I saw it coming, anyway, no surprise there.

Carlos called to box but stays out, Mercedes as usual with a shitty stop, and now Carlos does stop and Ferrari fucks it up too. STOP THE COUNT, LEWIS P2 AND GEORGE P3, STOP THE COUNT!!!

Estie Bestie stops, giving Lewis 5h and leaving him to hunt him down, AND NOW DANIEL EATS UP BOTH ALPINES AT THE SAME TIME, YES!!!!!

And that attempt from Charles to overtake George, that was unbelievable! Both Charles' attack and George's defence, it was absolutely wild! AND AGAIN! THIS IS RACING, PEOPLE! Charles can't do it right now, George is fighting with everything he has and I can't take this. Charles finally got it, he had to throw him ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING. I'm sad for George, but that battle was wonderful. And that's how you drive, Verstappen. That is Formula 1.

Hungaroring 2021 vibes with Estie Bestie and Seb fighting. Please, Esteban, I need Seb on the points. He finally does, Seb goes through!

Ferrari and Mercedes stopping Charles and George respectively. What is this? A clown show, that's what it is. Max goes through to P3, after Scuderia Clowneria's new fuck up.

AND VERSTAPPEN SPINS, YES! Perez covers him, BUT WHAT GOOD DOES THAT DO AGAINST GEORGE! Now Verstappen after Leclerc again, I just hope Charles can keep his place this time, but those tyres... And then goes through again. Fuck this. DNF, I'm saying it, Max needs to DNF so fucking bad.

Daniel and Stroll colliding... for fuck's sake guys. Carlos has a shitty stop AGAIN. Very nice. Although Mclaren and Ferrari hating on Daniel and Charles giving them hard tyres... If that's not hate, I don't know what is, honestly.

Charles called to box... Ferrari, seriously. I don't know how this people are still a winning team every now and then. The only thing now that could make this better is a "losing power" from Verstappen. For example.

Sir Lewis Hamilton smelling blood. This is good. As good as it gets, at least. and he does it, HE GOES THROUGH CARLOS!!!!! And now he hunts George, which could be fun but I believe Mercedes, Lewis being fastest, should let him through, but they're losing too much time. Had they done this a little earlier, they might have not been on time to hunt Max, but they maybe they would have.

Max Verstappen winning another race thanks to a Safety Car? I'm having flashbacks and not the good kind. Because Lewis could've closed down on him for sure, he is the fastest on track today.

"Max, I didn't expect to interview you as a winner." Yeah, no one did expect this bullshit 🤷🏻‍♀️ He looks at Lewis on the podium like he wants him to pay attention to him, he just needs to be in Lewis' mind or what?

Anyway, marvelous podium once more for my babies now onto the summer break. Let's hope the second half of the season goes much better.

(Somewhat) Political blabber about what I’d like to call “Euro-Slavism”

While a concept like this would definitely deserve some deeper study, I’m a bit too lazy, so I’m just going to talk rather subjectively.

The most popular political ideology that is focused on the Slavic identity would probably be Pan-Slavism. While it is popular, it ignores some important historical and political factors. Not only did the Pan-Slavic ideology rise in 19th century when some Slavic nations were already suffering under Russian monarchy, but the gravity of the conflicts that arose since the 19th century, especially during the WW2, the Yugoslav War and the current invasion of Ukraine, makes it virtually impossible for anyone who doesn’t expect Russia to invade all Slavic countries to consider Pan-Slavism as an ideology with any perspective in the following decades, if ever. Other than that, the main problem of Pan-Slavism is that it is simply outdated. The importance of Slavic identity in the 19th and the 20th century was emphasized because the (geo-)political situation was completely different from today. Pan-Slavism, throughout the past two centuries, was mostly supposed to oppose the dominant and rather aggressive Pan-Germanism, as well as the dominant position of non-Slavic empires in Europe. The situation has changed, and many - if not most - Slavic nations have built good relationships with other countries that formerly presented a danger to the Slavic identity.

The other ideology worth mentioning is Austro-Slavism, which aimed to improve the position of Slavs who already lived in the Austrian Empire. This, of course, has not been successful either. The Polish were secluded from their compatriots who lived in Russia and Prussia/Germany, Slavic nations living under Hungarian part of the empire (especially after the Austrian Empire has changed into Austria-Hungary) had their national identity compromised under the policy of Magyarization, etc. However, this concept was far more realistic than Pan-Slavism. Instead of disrupting the already existent structures, the Austrian Empire was supposed to become more open to the Slavic identities and start treating them as equals. The ideas of Austro-Slavism have, therefore, inspired me to think of a concept that I would probably call “Euro-Slavism”. While Euro-Slavism should not focus on Slavs as the people who need to isolate themselves from non-Slavic nations, and neither should it force them to cooperate to an extent that would be uncomfortable for any of the Slavic nations, it would aim to willingly unite the Slavs under the flag of European Union. EU has already helped several Slavic countries improve (one could even argue that it helped them prosper), and as it motivates the countries to cooperate with all other members of the EU, it eventually helps improve the relationship between Slavic countries as well. The will of Slavic countries to become a part of the European Union is also important, because unlike Pan-Slavism, it offers the nations to join not to stand up against something, but to stand for something, and unlike Austro-Slavism, Euro-Slavism doesn’t try to improve the system from within, but to join an already established system and use it for the benefit of the Slavic identity. Slavic identity does not need to be separated from the rest of the Europe, as Pan-Slavs sometimes suggest. Instead, Slavs need to realize that they are an integral part of a common, European identity. Democratic values, struggle for freedom, the respect of one’s cultural and national identity. That’s what’s common for all Europeans, and the history of Slavic nations suggests that it is no less familiar to us. European Union, together with Schengen Area, do open borders and make life easier for all member nations, and that makes the possibility of cultural and economic cooperation between the Slavic nations more achievable than the attempts to achieve the same outside the EU. The membership of Slavic nations within the European Union would also help shape the EU in the way that both Slavic and non-Slavic nations want it to be, as it is a democratic system that requires cooperation to achieve its goals. While I am completely aware of the fact that these are some bold statements to make without any citation and evidence, I am a bit too lazy to study it further at the moment.
