"what's love...
if not a waiting to be seen?" camille norton - corruption poems
below are little blurbs regarding simeon/solomon/diavolo + undressing because y'know, i am feeling down! so what better remedy than vague excerpts to project onto as a means of intimacy. thanks for reading :)
simeon: they promised luke with a golden smile and clasped pinkies that they'd sleep over with him in purgatory hall- he had been particularly upset that the brothers seemed to eat up all of the human's time. as they held his hands and with the chandelier lights a halo above the human's head, he excitedly made plans to have a tea party at midnight and eat cookies under the stars! the human must've been so tired- simeon knew it with their stifled yawns and heavy eyelids as they danced with brother after brother. but they'd crucify themselves for just one smile from someone they loved- they accepted luke's invitation with stars in their eyes. a part of simeon hated the holiness that emanated from them- he couldn't escape god if he tried. they almost seem unattainable. tucked away in the land of milk and honey as he remains tempted in the desert, left to turn to dust. luke runs inside the house, exclaiming all the things they'll do- play that game leviathan was recommending, make celestial-inspired honeyed cookies with lavender tea, and oh, don't forget--- within a moment he falls asleep upon the couch and with a laugh, solomon takes him in his arms and leaves with the dozing child, leaving the two alone. the air is suffocating- he looks over to the human who almost seems to be sleeping while upright. a touch upon their shoulder jolts them awake and the two share a laugh in the softened light of the hall's lamps. starlight spills from the window from the moonless sky- simeon watches as the human looks through the window, their lips always fixed with a small smile. eternally blissful. 'you must be tired- i'll fix up the guest room for you.' the human follows as he walks towards the end of the hall. the room was small- it isn't very often used except during nights where mammon hides from debt collectors or asmodeus needs to store a delicate dress- and maybe even nights like these where the human finds themselves alone with simeon, who suddenly finds it hard to breathe. 'this stupid outfit- lucifer chose it. i don't very much like it- he claims it's devildom-styled formal attire. to me, it's just a nightmare to take off. do you mind?' they turn around, tilting their head to reveal a small zipper near the back of their neck. suddenly everything becomes so slow as simeon takes off his gloves, his bare fingers finding their warm skin in the dim room. temptation is a dirty thing and he finds the taste of their skin like liquid gold, almost suffocating in it.
solomon: lightning struck as rain drummed upon the foliage before them, the only cover for the two the stone above their heads. a trip in the north european forests, foraging for whatever magic-imbued items they can find for potions and spells turned futile as dark clouds blanketed the sky and rain poured, the two finding shelter within a cave. they were far from any village, having trekked and camped for days to make it to the deepest and most untouched parts of the wood, hoping to stumble upon authentic fairy circles and catch will o' the wisps. solomon sighed- another failed attempt of making a fire. something was dampening his powers, and he really wanted to attribute it to the thunderous skies and chills that made its way deep into his bones, but his heart knew by the way it beat so strongly it had to do with his apprentice, who shivered with such fervor that he kept trying to light a fire or spark a flame between his palms- something to make them feel just a little better. he shook his head, clenching his fists: 'nothing is working. the twigs are wet and the wind blows out every spark. i'm so sorry for dragging you through this. god, you're freezing! we got to get you out of these soaked clothes!' his hands found their buttons and not even a moment later, he stopped in his tracks. with averted eyes, he brings his hands back down, the small space becoming even more constricting- warmth finally being found spread across his face and upon his ears. he grew red as the human laughed through chattered teeth, a small cough ending their light giggle. with trembling hands, frosted by the howling wind, they unbutton their shirt as solomon inspects the lines in the stoned wall with such intrigue. their bare skin reveals itself in his periphery as the blush creeped further, his heart pounding within his chest. they moved to their trousers, the sounds of fabric rustling sending his pulse spiking. what on god's name is he on about? they need to remove their soaked clothes to avoid hypothermia- such a simple notion his head can wrap around... but the small cave grew ever smaller as he could barely restrain himself from taking their waist and...
diavolo: a million apologies whispered and he didn't want to hear a single one- it was something else that drew his gaze to their lips. it was a quiet moment in the castle's garden- he had invited the human to drink iced tea and enjoy barbatos' freshly made scones, still warm from the fire-magic oven. their eyes grew with the homely scene- a white iron garden table adorned with native devildom flowers, handpicked by theirs truly- diavolo proudly displayed the cuts upon his hands from where the hellish flowers pricked as he gathered only the finest specimens. the human laughed- something he'd never get tired of. the two sat and enjoyed the dark afternoon of a particularly hot day. within a moment, a wave of warmth splashed upon his dress shirt and the human exclaimed in shock, standing up with abject horror upon their face. the air around them was strung with apologies as they frantically took the white towelette in front of them, dabbing it upon the growing stain. diavolo stifled laughter- what a scene, the two standing in the dark of the devildom, having the human dote on him with a flushed face and shaking hands. 'please, don't worry. it's just a blouse!' the human looks up with such eyes that the breath in his throat hitches and he finds himself flustered. this human... 'allow me to wash it. i'm known to be able to remove just any stain. please- let me make it up to you.' he could never refuse them- even with such an absurd offer to restore a shirt he has dozens of. not even a moment later, the human reaches their hands, their fingers finding the buttons, unclasping the golden halos one by one before he realized what was happening. they wrap around him, the dress shirt falling into their hands. they fold it, and suddenly diavolo feels exposed. the now-stained shirt was from a set of garments inherited by his father- princely garb. without them, he stood in his ordinary undershirt with the human looking at him with a playful expression, as if it was all a trap to lead him to the simple feeling that with them, he isn't the prince of hell but a lovestruck fool, head over heels. what a clever trick. he takes their face within his hands and kisses them between laughter, smiles pressed against each other's lips.

Haikyuu!! and My Hero Academia crossover because those are the two shows currently living rent-free in my head. This is probably going to be the first of several posts
Loooooooong ramble about Quirks, hero names, costume notes, and the screencaps I ref’d under the cut
Hinata: some sort of jumping/speed Quirk like Gran Torino, or that Pop Step kid from the Vigilantes spinoff. I wanted a vaguely ninja-ish look because of the whole Ninja Shouyou thing, and I like the hero name Helios (a Greek sun god)
Kageyama: Telekinesis. I imagine he wouldn’t be able to move anything heavier than he could move with his physical body (though my boy Tobio’s pretty strong so that wouldn’t hold him back too much), but it’s his precision that makes him a force to be reckoned with, one of these days I’m gonna draw him mid-fight controlling ten gazillion bits of debris all at once.
I ref’d his costume mostly from like Disney princes tbh, wanted to keep the royal Kingly motif, especially the red cape even though I kiboshed the fur trim because it looked weird with the rest of the outfit in my sketches. I feel like a cape could be pretty useful with a telekinetic power too, sweep it off while you’re chasing down a baddie and send it ahead of you to tackle them and wrap them all up in a little villain burrito they can’t escape from.
No hero name yet, I feel like “King” is too basic?

Oikawa: Gravity suspension just like Uraraka. I like the idea of him with a Quirk that isn’t inherently super badass and which needs a lot of work to be made powerful, and the potential for a Kageyama-related inferiority complex since from a certain angle you could argue that Kags does what Oikawa does (suspending things in mid-air) but better, but at the same time Oikawa has things only he can do.
Costume heavily inspired by the uniforms in Star Trek Discovery, plus Seijoh colours and a visor since I wanted something on his face but didn’t want to have a full face shield like Uraraka. Hero name Roswell, since a gravity Quirk lends itself to an alien/space inspired name I think.

Yamaguchi: Trajectory-altering, sort of like Snipe or that kid Itejiro Toteki from the provisional licensing arc (and, of course, like his jump float serve). Not totally settled on this costume design since it’s pretty obvious I’m cribbing from mainstream archery heroes like Hawkeye (though I took inspiration from both Clint Barton and Kate Bishop), but I do think purple’s a good colour on him. Hero name Polaris, both because the guiding North Star matches someone with perfect aim, and since I’ve always loved the fandom association of him with stars, people have made such gorgeous art because of it. Also, that star on his shoulder has 12 points.
I also included the mask because I think he probably wanted to cover up his freckles; even if he’s a hero-to-be in this world, poor Tadashi definitely still has some self-esteem issues to work on.
Tsukishima: He can block other quirks, kind of, but not exactly, like Aizawa. Reflecting how in volleyball one can reduce the effectiveness of a spike by getting close/a one-touch, or completely shut it down, Tsukki can reduce the effectiveness of a Quirk just by looking and completely shut it down if he touches them. Also like a volleyball block, Tsukki’s Quirk blocking lasts a few seconds after he makes contact so he doesn’t have Aizawa’s blinking problem, but the opponent can still land another hit if he doesn’t keep up.
Hero name Eclipse, because how could I possibly give Tsukki a hero name that didn’t have something to do with the moon. Costume is basically Indiana Jones’ outfit without the hat (which... admittedly makes it not very Indiana Jones-ish anymore) since Tsukki 1) is too practical to want anything flashy and 2) is on track to work at a museum after the time skip. The bullwhip is also an Indiana Jones element, since I didn’t want him to have a scarf like Aizawa but a capture weapon still seems like a good idea if he has to touch his opponents to completely shut them down.

So I got into Elder Scrolls August last year- these are 3 of my characters, and they’re brothers. In order, Mojelmo (oldest), Tilenn (youngest) and Perlas (middle child). Since they’re elves, I decided to draw them as elves on the shelf. I was originally going to do it last Christmas but procrastination happened.
(Backstory on how they were spawned)
They started out among several vague Star Trek Cardassian OCs who were inspired from a name generator, and they were originally unrelated until I went ‘I should probably give this guy a family…yeah these can be his siblings’.
When I started Skyrim I made my favourite one in it as a High Elf, he fit perfectly and I’m still playing him.
It’s Perlas which you could probably tell since I put the most effort into his outfit lol
Also Mojelmo certainly has a hairstyle. It’s like if Donald Trump had a mullet. I almost feel bad (he’s a mild douche though)

Sigh. Chibnall.
Jodie Whittaker and demographic realism
So I want to make clear that I have no problems whatsoever with Jodie Whittaker’s performance - the character seamlessly kept walking across the screen, she has great energy, love the steampunk goggles.
Honestly I’ve always believed that giving existing characters a demographic change is not really as revolutionary or helpful as ppl think; New characters and stories (esp. told by writers of those samedemographics) solve the problem much better. Keeping specificity is often better than losing it, and the character still has a background (from an “advanced” civilization that used to do dirty deeds and is still kind of uppity attitudes, a character who’s decided to be against that attitude but still needs to be knocked own from the occasional uppity moment; It makes sense for them to look like a british dude, and they have the freedom to go wherever problems like sexism and racism don’t exist so... ), and will be linked to its origin.  But at worst something that will look dated in a few years like the 80s outfits, the show’s done dated and crowdpleasing before; There’s no hard reason not to do it and I expected no quality dip.
It certainly worked as as attention grab, the premiere drew a lot of attention but that only lasted as long as it took for the reviews to go sour. But one of the main good things its proponents said could come of it was to help the lack of female anti heroes. So far she really didn’t get to anti hero much; It’s not Whittaker, it’s the scripts.
I want to make this clear: Varied demograpics are good;
This is why I kind of hate the term “diversity” is one of those vague euphemisms if you mean “demographic representation”, “social equity” or “demographic realism” just say that.
In a way this is a good thing, it used to be only the best boldest writers who could get away, noadays it has become acceptable to have varied casts. And that’s how it should be artshouldn’t have to have to pass some arbitrary quality standard to simply reflect reality. But as the rebootverse and star trek discovery should’ve proved realistic demographics can’t replace good writing. Sometimes lack of realistic demographis is associated with bad writing because both come from play-it-safe more-of-the-same consummerism focussed sameyness, often someone who goes against the formulas has a solid vision which makes them good, and focussing on ignored topics and perspectives can yield new ideas (consider stuff like Wonder Woman, Get Out, Black Panther... which were just good, novel movies) but you could have a super interesting memorable story where everyone is a medieval european monk, but the characters are differentiated by personality, attitude, beliefs, or something where the cast ticks all sort of all demographic boxes but the characters are 1D and the story trite and predictable
On the one hand you get those gamergate adjacent fanboys who make “diversity” and “good writing” out to be enimical opposites and then you have the purists/antis who treat any critique of writing to be founded in having something against realistic demographics. You need both!
Series 11
There were good things about it: An attempt at leastto do more of your classic thought provoking space operas or going back to the shows’ pulp fiction roots, covering some historic periods/topics other than the classic historical fiction tropes (they got a pakistani writer, had Yaz and Ryan discuss social topics among themselves etc.), the emotional story centered around this family coping with a loss, having Ryan sort of be the “main” companion and the one the rest of the team is protective of
But overall the reason I didn’t rush to watch s12 as soon as it came out is that it was a bit... bland. The team interacted mostly with each other; The Doctor had more charge with one shot characters like King James or the Solitract than she really did with the companions. Graham was such a missed opportunity. Remember how everyone loved the dynamic with Wilfred? No attempt to strike a bond over how they’re the older party members, or the professional xenophile trying to nudge the bilbo baggins like reluctant hero? We’re told the Doctor really likes Yaz, and I believe it cause she always liked people like that, but are we shown?
For all that Moffat and RTD were very different writers with different strenghts and weaknesses, both were very character-driven writers, and that was really missing here a bit.
Some ppl said they didn’t give Yaz enough screentime or personality - but the thing is, they did try. They just failed. They let her make little remarks here and there about her homelife, they just never really assembled into a whole beyond buzzwords and inspirational platitudes and the Standard Companion Traits. I didn’t get a read on what she’s about or who she’s like until the pakisan episode where she unlike Barbara, Donna etc. immediately accepted that the past can’t be changed. Ah, I finally thought, she’s a very responsible dutiful person.
Everything lacks edges and defining moments.
So far, I didn’t sweat it. I though, ok, not everything can be the high-concept character driven spec fic epic type of story that is my personal favorite. Every time there was some addition to the mythos in any way someone cried ruined forever. When the time lords first appeared. When the time war was introduced.
The classics too were lower on the character driven ness; Still good pulp fiction content. (imho the character concepts themselves were often pretty good, just not used to the fullest and some of the actresses were treated crappy backstage)
I thought “okey, it wouldn’t be good to break with the tradition of making the sussequent incarnations contrasting”
I did think that there was much liberty with the additions which the others did do only towards the end when it feltmore earned, but, the addition of say, sisters, isn’t too disruptive
Series 12 and the Timeless Child Nonsense
The frustrating thing about this is that it COULD have been good.
The Master teaming up with the cybermen to try and take over Gallifrey is precisely the sort of story the classics would’ve done.
“Your society is founded on a shady secret and exploitation of the innocent” is a good plot twist especially in these times. The Master finding that secret and using it to his advantage - also very him.
Imagine what it could have been like if it had been approached from the perspective of someone who, for all that they were a rebel, still sort of profited from being part of that society, someone who wants to take responsibility for that past and would maybe have to make some tough choice to let the exploitation victim go because it’s right even if it has cosequences for themselves and their civilization.
but then you ruin that by immediately taking the protagonist out of that society. They and they alone are the victim.
like this plot could have been good except for the twist that the Doctor and the timeless child are the same.
Not connecting it to existing lore about the earlier war game days, everything with Omega and Rassilon, that bit about the Time Lord becoming what they were through exposure to the untempered schism... that might be forgiven. Even if it does stretch the suspension of disbelief that every single piece of sci fi scanning equipment in the show didn’t pick anything up; Not to mention that it destroys the stake on every heroic sacrifice or death prophecy plot, every time a companion or oneshot character took the bullet, the whole “out of regens” plot...
This is not me being mad about things being added or changed, but this being done in such a way that undermines the philosophy, the whole flavor...
Yes, the MC is mysterious, the 7th Doctor arcs did a lot with this etc. but doesn’t spelling something out this clear not deplete rather than add to that? It#s a definite answer even if the final origin isn’t clear.
But they’re so much else.
The trickster hero accomplishing great deeds with planning, guile, improvisation and duct tape, the implicit value that ressourcefulness trumps raw power.
The rebel, different because they chose to be or made themselves to be such through their adventures, sticking to their own values in a close-minded society - who embodies & encourages thinking for yourself in every situation and universal plot, who battles enemies like the Daleks and Cybermen that represent comformity
Yeah they have many names yeah they take out gods... but all this was the result of their actions & path in pursuit of knowledge, and also, as Moffat once stated, the funny part is that behind all the fearsome reputation is wit and duct tape.
The fish in a small pond who started out a misfit, failed their tardis driving exam... etc. and often made a point that they didn’t want immortality or endless godlike power. That’s meaningless if they had it to begin with.
The explorer who wanted to see more than their corner of the world.
The ANTI HERO that’s made alltogether too tragic here, too absolved from their uppity civilization
All that is wiped away if they were this special creature to begin with.
Where WAS the philosophy, rly? The big humanist speeches that made me love the show.
Going Forward
So I think - I HOPE - that this in particular will be treated like the “half human” thing from the TV movie or the now josses additional origin stories from the audios, or be handwaved under the “you cant get it wrong cause everything is in flux” carpet
It’s the Master effing with her to pay her back for the half broken chameleon arch thing.
It’s possible the Child actually existed, long dead or trapped somewhere - again, dirty mystery at the bottom of a stck-up society is a good twist. but this shouldn’t be more than another maybe in the multiple choice past not a definite answer.
Also, i hate this line of thought but I can’t stave it off: Why is is now that the MC looks female that we get this vulnerable, passively victimized tomato surprise rather than something with an ugly but definite choice in it.
I will probably ignore it - parts of me resents this cause “your civilization is based on a lie” could be such a good plot twist (then again the existing twists to that end from the classics and End of Time do enough rly) but if i have to choose between that and the basic meaning of the character....

nominating myself from @magdaliny‘s post because yes good
rules: answer 30 questions and tag 20 blogs you would like to get to know better
1. nicknames:  Essa, Es, star, Kes (after an old roleplay character). and my eldest sib sometimes calls me Silvester, which is the only nickname I'd ever had until about sixteen.
2. gender:  my most consistent concise thought on the subject is “[awkward] inbetween thing”, though I also like gentlething/gentlebeing. that one's maybe more aspirational.
3. star sign:  pisces, I think! no clue what it means.
4. height:  beyond surreptitiously checking myself against siblings occasionally, I haven't measured it for years. until now! 5'6" and probably a half. how are you meant to do this accurately.
5. time:  15:13 when I first started poking at this. 23:49 at finishing.
6. birthday:  march 14th
7. favourite bands:  disclaimer that I'm not a Fully Together human being and have not made efforts to expand my musical palate for years, beyond grabby-handsing at passing pretty things. with that in mind, recent consistent favourites include: REM, mumford and sons, Last Orders*, Shearwater**
* a distressingly local band who earn a place here because everywhere they perform becomes a sacred and beautiful space. possibly I'm just starved for live music.
** was introduced to this from two directions at once (thanks, btw!), I should really check out more of theirs
8. favourite solo artists:  ...Mark Growden, Amanda Palmer maaaybe, Owl City, Leonard Cohen, thedustcollector.
9. song stuck in my head:  various bits from this, I don't even know it well enough to have it properly stuck but somehow still keep internally humming parts of it?
10. last movie i watched:  unsure but possibly The Force Awakens, for the first time.
11. last show i watched:  currently comfort-watching through Star Trek DS9, because Julian and the Major are very pretty, it's not very taxing for a difficult brain and there's a certain character I need to see again before making a name decision.
12. when did i create my blog:  july 2012
13. what do i post:  awh man there's so much? pretty things, and interesting things, and things that made me feel inspired or creative in some way. useful mental health tips and tidbits. gender and sexuality stuff (still getting comfy with what I am and this is my main place for it) and cool people in cool outfits to aid in slow & eventual style experiments.
(if this just means Actually Posting: occasional photos, selfies, once in a blue moon writing/art. and general personal debris.)
14. last thing i googled:  "define premises". I wanted to make sure that was the correct spelling for premises-as-in-place, not just premises-as-in-ideas. for typed conversation, not writing.
15. do i have any other blogs:  nope!
16. do i get asks:  verrrry occasionally, and those mostly from people who knew me elsewhere first. I can be very slow to respond.
17. why i chose my url:  desperation and a vague stab at something meaningless. I'm falderal elsewhere, but just that was taken here.
18. following:  136. I refuse to unfollow once-awesome inactive blogs.
19. followers:  195 but only like ten of those are real people.
21. average hours of sleep:  10? roughly.
22. lucky number:  used to be 8. now, maybe 4, though 5 is nice too.
23. instruments:  three years of violin at ~10 left me absolutely useless, my singing range is very limited and I'm less than capable of singing in groups these days. I have a melodica (basically unused) and an ocarina (six-holes, pendant, very occasionally picked up to muddle through a few things)
24. what am i wearing:  glittery bronze bedsocks. bootleg jeans, stretchy comfy turtleneck sweater (charcoal), smart masc navy-blue coat (new acquisition, needs buttons sewn back on), the slouchy brimmed fleece hat I was wearing in an old photo. one ring, celtic knots, tarnished silver.
26. dream job:  I... actually haven't managed to maintain a job fantasy in recent years, oops. raincheck. same goes for 27. dream trip
28. favourite food:  I have a slightly shameful weak spot for generic pub curries done well, but also, recently reminded myself that rum truffles are a thing.
29. nationality:  British. English. not sure which applies.
30. favourite song right now:  Lost by Amanda Palmer & the grand theft orchestra, for serious Creative And/Or Spiritual Inklings in response to certain bits. I've planned to do an art about it and that should get it out of my head.
I don’t actually know anyone else who does these, but if anyone feels the urge I’d love to see it! tag me & have a good time-of-day etc. I’m off to bed.
