Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem

Nintendo has cultivated a family friendly image throughout the company’s existence. Even as they tried to soften that image during the 16-bit era, most mature or adult titles were third party releases on the SNES or the N64, save for the odd release from Rare. By the time the GameCube rolled around, they loosened even further, courting remakes of Resident Evil and Metal Gear Solid, as well as publishing their first ESRB Mature-rated title with Eternal Darkness in 2002. The game, designed by Canadian studio Silicon Knights, was a twist on survival horror, with a focus on the lurking fear of the unknown. One of the largest game that Silicon Knights worked on and a more direct foray into the more adult titles for Nintendo, Eternal Darkness is a notable game for both companies, however much it languishes today.

An Analysis of a Glyph from the Memorite Society: Their Creation Myth

NOTE: This is incomplete. I am also not a cultural anthropologist. I just write stories, watch OSP, and am not a guy. I hope that satisfies some credentials. The reason this is not complete and probably wildly inaccurate is because the society, as established in the first paper published in the Twitter Journal of Scientific Jokesters, is wildly misunderstood (reference to original paper) and little information since then has surfaced.

So I did some digging and research and found the glyph "Duality of Man (yeesh, we need to update that)" could also represent this civilization's creation myth.

So:

In the beginning, there was nothing. And then, there was light. It was the purest of all lights, and all was well, until one day, some light split to form color, and other light collided to form matter. With matter came shadows, because nature appreciates a balance. These shadows were separated from the light into another world, and a great wall, higher than a thousand heavens and guarded by stories and whispers told on both sides. The other side of the wall was bad. One must not cross the wall, or the shadows would taint their shadowness or the light would lose its lightness.

However, walls crumble. It’s almost to be expected, unless in the future, someone invents an indestructible wall. And when the walls crumbled, a being of the light saw their shadow counterpart. This other being, despite lacking color and all that was considered cool, was still living and deserving of respect. 

They, for about five days, were roommates. Eventually, they moved on top of the wall where the being of light opened a bookstore and the being of shadow created plants. That is why you must not neglect plants or put them in the light. They went on many adventures together, and their stories are well documented. (NOTE: we lost all these to time).

And when they stood trial, they stood it together; hands clasped in a gesture of love as they were declared guilty.

“But,” one said, eyes firm with admiration and determination. “Am I guilty?”

Suddenly, the two merged into the first human: a being of both good and evil, and capable of the one thing neither the light beings nor the shadow beings could do: set things on fire.

Over many, many years, the barrier between worlds broke down as the half-lives found their counterparts and became whole. Some had more than one counterpart, and to this day, they call towards each other. However, the ones who were whole without fragments were considered perfect, and there was much envy towards them because they were sacred. They were mirrors of the past, and mirrors show both what we love and what we hate.

We have no knowledge of their gods beyond the Many-Faced God of war and medicine, with the tenth and fourteenth aspects more highly venerated in certain circles, with a dedicated cult centered around the eighth aspect. There also appears to be one god of intelligence. The deity of children, Blorbo, must be protected at all costs.

Кремнієва долина (2014 - 2019)

Насправді я навіть не очікувала, що звичайний сітком про айтішніків мені взагалі сподобається. 

Серіал розповідає нам про невеличку команду мрійників, які працюють в Кремнієвій долині, намагаючись збудувати свою власну компанію, заробити грошей і, що найголовніше, зробити щось дійсно корисне для людей. 

Мені дуже сподобався юмор. Щось таке абсордне, персонажі гіперболізовані інколи до нісенітнеці. Щось накшталт “Теорії великого вибуху” або “Бруклін 9-9″. Принайні мені саме такими вайбами віяло від цього серіалу. 

Що цікаво, так це те, що персонажі дорослішають, змінюються і видно, що ситцації та життєві труднощі змінюють їх. Були персонажі, які прям дуже сподобались. Особисто моїми улюбленцями стали Джаред та Гілфойл. 

Джаред (у виконанні Зака Вудса) заціпив саме своєю відданістю справі і, в абсурдності всього, що відбувалося на екрані протягом сезонів, він здавався якимось промінем адекватності та стабільності. 

Гілфойлд (Мартін Старр) був його повною протилежністю, як на мене. Починаючи від релігії і завершуючи тим, які рішення він приймав і як мислив. І саме через це за цима двома мені спостерігати було особливо цікаво. 

Звісно, не обйшлось і без персонажів, які були відверто відштовхуючими. А найнеприємнішим для мене став Ерліх (ТиДжей Міллер). Я в реальному житті на дух не переношу таких людей, які думають  не про те, як щось заробити, як стати кращими та покращити своє життя, а лише про те, де б кого наїбати і як зробити так, щоб гроші з ніхєра з’являлись. Навіть якщо для цього треба зрадити друзів. 

Я  розумію, що його образ так само досить гіпертрофований, але розуміння цього не допомагає. Навпаки. Він мені з кожною серією ставав все огиднішим. 

Рада, що в останньому сезоні цього персонажа не було взагалі, хоч і не знаю, з чим воно пов’язано. 

Ще мені сподобався фінал. 

Трошки, як на мене, затягнули. Що вони там постійно змінювали свій продукт, фірми, партнерів. Але добре. Це життя і все життя у нас щось змінюється. А ось сам фінал з самою компманиєю це, як мені здається, досить життєво. 

І добре що показують, що не всі з нас в кінці можуть стати другими Білами Гейтсами або Стівами Джобсами. Це життя і може трапитись все що завгодно.

В цілому враження від сералу гарні. Особливо рекомендую тим, кому подобається вся ця айті сфера. Але навіть для таких як я, які в цьому ніфіга не розуміють, також буде цікаво.
