ELECTRIC LADY: Getting Way Down

MAR 21-26 And just when you thought Women’s History Month couldn’t get anymore cosmic, a group of local ladies is closing it out with a much-needed jolt of woman power (if you giggled at that pun, donate to our Paypal).

Writer and reporter Sofiya Ballin, with the support of collaborators Lara Witt, Melissa Ly, Alexis Mercado, and Keturah Benson, presents Electric Lady, “a week long series of woman-centered events offering a look internally and externally at womanhood while celebrating its many forms.”

Mindful of the importance of acknowledging intersectionality, promoting self-care, and allowing for community-building and the sharing of art and ideas, these women have designed programs that specifically address topics relevant to local women - including those of us who are queer. The events range from discussion groups, to an all-women art showcase, and a culminating yoga session.

With panelists, artists, and talents, including the likes of Arielle Johnson, Carol Wong, THEAkasha, and DJ HVNLEE, Electric Lady purposefully integrates diverse women into its programming, keeping with its goals to host events “that explore or heal.”

Note: The events of Electric Lady are not exclusively LGBT, but they are intentionally inclusive safe spaces.

Blue represents the throat chakra, allowing tough truths to be more easily articulated.
