gaz and ghost's relationship is super interesting, we don't really get anything on it except for the fact that they seem to know each other (there are cutscenes they're both in in warzone and gaz pulls ghost up as they escape the prison).
and i think in the beginning that's about it. ghost being ghost he knows the man, works with him and isn't super pissed off because kyle is a competent sergeant. like most his relationships with lower rank.
gaz probably thinks the lieutenant a little eccentric with the whole mask and redacted everything bit he has going on but in the end the results of his work are what matters and they are frighteningly good.
he probably tells soap the little he knows about ghost before they get sent out to al mazrah, tells him the man is cold, scarily efficient and a bit weird but values good work. maybe even tells soap that he's not sure if the friendly approach is the best here, just keep it tactical and professional.
that alone is enough to make soap double down on it of course.
but when ghost and soap get together that's when things start to go sour between them. both have their reasons both rational and emotional. gaz is worried for his best friend, doesn't want him to get hurt in a relationship with someone as emotionally stunted as he thinks ghost is. he doesn't really think ghost deserves someone like his brilliant loving friend. and frankly free time at base is limited and he used to spend all of it joined at the hip with soap who is now dedicating a meaningful portion of that time to ghost too. especially in the early days of the relationship it takes a toll on him.
ghost for his part notices the animosity, is scared for that new and wonderful thing he has with soap because he knows gaz has a significant influence on soap. and especially at the beginning he really craves all of johnny's attention and affection. doesn't like the way soap is physically affectionate towards gaz as well and insists on spending time with him alone sometimes. he has yet to learn to trust in this new relationship. and trust really is an issue with him.
and soap? soap is probably just done with them both.
sits them down together and explains that he loves both of them and refuses to lose out on either relationship because they both decided to be idiots about it.
they don't have to like each other but he demands them to at least keep acting professional for his sake. but also if they both want more time with him they'll have to suck it up and spend time with each other too.
in a rare moment of agreeing with each other both gaz and ghost find that they'd both much rather brawl it out, but johnny is not having that, it would get so much worse if one thought they'd "won" this whole thing. so he gently reminds them that he's a human being not a toy being fought over and neither of them can really say something because rationally they know they are being assholes right then.
soap's dictated peace starts of super tense, two men tolerating each other like two big cats that are forced to close. and in the middle soap who acts like nothing is wrong, who's the sole reason that they are both so tense and at the same time keep grinning and bearing it.
in the field its worse, because that's where rank really comes into play which is not healthy in their dynamic. especially once gaz starts dating price and they get into a weird rank deadlock. but neither of them is willing to escalate. because that would make soap sad and that's the one thing they can agree on not to let happen.
so they keep tolerating each other. keep working together. keep helping each other in the field thinking "fucking hell can't look soap in the eyes if something happened to this idiot."
eventually it shifts from not making soap sad to making soap happy. ghost brings takeout from a quick trip outside base and brings some for gaz too because hanging out with him makes soap happy. gaz plans something fun for the weekend and to make soap happy makes sure it's something ghost can also come to without feeling too uncomfortable.
and soap loves it so much both his beat friend and his partner can't help but share his happiness. it's infectious.
so they get to know each other and slowly come round realise that the only threat to their relationship with soap is their relationship with each other. thus it progresses back to its neutral starting point and then steadily becomes more. they spend too much time with each other not to become friends. not that they would admit it. yet they laugh at each others jokes and sometimes even find themselves accidentally hanging out without soap.
both of them are so offended when they find themselves realising it, how the fuck could that even happen? and then soap waltzes in. who's been even happier ever since they started behaving themselves normal around each other again. soap who's love is too strong for them to stay enemies about it so instead they just accept that they never really had a chance to do anything about it but become friends.
some manly huffing noises are made and then they get on with it because soap decided its movie night.
price adamantly keeps out of it, even once things with gaz start happening. won't even talk about it except with soap when they both need to blow off some steam. i could probably (and might) write an equally long piece how that affects them all.

if nickelodeon weren't cowards we could've had eddie and jerome bonding over complicated relationships with shitty dads who are trying but will never be able to make up for a life time of Issues
God they TANTALIZED us with that. The Jerome/Eddie friendship was SO CLOSE to truly blossoming, especially right at the end of season 2. And like, the show does make the connection with the two of them and their daddy issues. Mara writes about both of them in her article and makes parallels. Additionally, the two of them together go to Mr. Sweet to get Mara reinstated. Eddie also tells Jerome that Joy entered herself in the writing competition instead of Mara, and together they: 1) Ensure Mara gets credit for the father/son article, 2) Clear up the Jack Jackal stuff and reveal that Mara is Jack Jackal but throw Joy under the bus for writing the Nina article, 3) Reveal that Joy didn't enter Mara in the competition, and 4) See to it that Mara does get entered. And like, they accomplish all this scarily quickly and scarily efficiently. If they'd ever truly combined their powers, they could've been a formidable team. They could've accomplished a lot of good together, or they could have committed many crimes and evils. Like those boys did not hesitate to be VERY cold to Joy on Mara's behalf, they could've been a pretty intimidating and powerful team if they'd ever wanted to or tried. But unfortunately they were both too stupid.
So like as you were saying, yes I so wish they would've expanded upon their friendship, especially with their complicated relationships with their dads being the basis of it. Like, after the truth about Jerome's dad comes out Eddie is the first one to reach out to him and be like "hey we would've been cool with it." And when the truth about Eddie's dad comes out Jerome doesn't laugh along with most everyone else, he looks surprised and a little bit mortified, like he knows what that sort of feeling is like. And there were so many glimpses into a potential wonderful and entertaining friendship. Eddie makes Jerome violently ill via creamed carrots and then underpays him at Donkey Day, they make the dance bet which Jerome believes will make Eddie look like a fool but ends up backfiring on him instead, and Eddie sees Jerome getting kidnapped by Rufus and eventually ends up inadvertently alerting Sibuna to the problem and helping him get rescued. Jerome confronts Eddie about the letter business at the beginning of S3 [which was unfortunately probably their last major interaction :( ]. And Eddie fuckin calls him JERRY, repeatedly lol. Also, my favorite Eddie/Jerome scene: when Jerome asks Eddie for French notes, and Eddie hands him a sandwich. (And also in this scene when Jerome encourages Eddie to open up to him and tell him what's bothering him and Eddie actually DOES!!)
Not to mention both are shockingly involved in the other's relationship: Jerome pairs Eddie and Patricia for Donkey Day and makes them be tied together for a full day and likely providing a big assist in their sparking feelings for one another, he teases him for having a crush at the dance, he and Alfie make the dance bet with him, he listens to Eddie's concerns after their first date and offers him relationship advice (which he is NOT qualified to give lol), and Eddie even tells him how deep his feelings are and that he's never felt like that about a girl before, which Jerome does not understand but accepts. Also when he got stood up by Patricia, Jerome was like "wasn't she supposed to meet you already?", implying that Eddie told him about this previously and that they talk about this kind of stuff together. In season 2, Jerome might be the one he talks about his Patricia feelings/drama the most? Although that's debatable, as he does discuss them with Mara and Joy as well. Additionally, Jerome often laments about his girl problems with Mara to Eddie, he points out to Mara that Jerome very clearly treats Mara better than the rest of them (meaning he's been noticing and observing this behavior all school year to the point where it's painfully obvious to him), and pushes Mara into accepting her feelings for Jerome. In a way, neither of their relationships might happen without the help of the other.
I was so sad when they just didn't have much of a friendship in season 3, especially with all the buildup and potential at the end of season 2. They could've been everything. We truly could've had it all. But alas, we were robbed.

I was just thinking about the kids and pain tolerance
Because, on the one hand you've got Constance, who, in addition to being sensitive in preternaturally specific ways, is a little kid. And then probably you've got Sticky, who hasn't done many adventurous things in his life previously, and so probably doesn't have a lot of experience with being injured. And then either Reynie or Kate, depending.
But, on the other hand, just because they have or haven't experienced pain doesn't mean they wouldn't have a high tolerance. Some people just aren't as sensitive to it, while others may be pushed to nausea from something relatively simple.
Kate likely inherited a stupidly high pain tolerance from Milligan, but even if she didn't, she probably has the willpower to throw up in a corner and push herself to keep going until she passed out. And, with Milligan as an example, I'm sure her concept of pain levels is terribly skewed anyway. She'd decide she was being silly and make herself do something stupid like walk on a broken leg because it's "what Milligan would do".
Reynie probably gets more upset about the emotional pain than the physical. I can see him adjusting and moving on, barely realising there's cause for concern unless his bones are actively coming out of him. He probably got used to some things, since he didn't have a lot of careful adults to set a standard by. Meanwhile, he's going to quietly break down in tears at the idea that someone hates him enough to hurt him as soon as he's out of danger.
Sticky, again, hasn't really had a chance to see what his tolerance would be aside from general getting sick stuff. So, he could either be normal (Though I imagine he'd cause himself massive amounts of anxiety over infections or debilitating consequences caused by aggravating an injury), or he could randomly be the most stoic out of all of them. Kid gets stabbed and goes "Oh well, pain is just in the mind" and keeps going.
Constance is always dealing with so much on a mental/emotional level I'd guess it wouldn't take much physical pain to push her over the edge. However, she could also be one of those people who complains over silly, inconveniencing ailments but can and will buckle down and work through something really serious. They'd know when she was really not doing okay because she suddenly stops whining and does everything necessary with scarily silent efficiency.

Gee, this would've been really nice to have seen, instead of it just being told to us.
The amount of "evidence" we collect before this infodump is pretty bare, with multiple characters even saying how bare it is and how hard it's gonna be figuring anything out. So what exactly are these guys doing for two entire days that makes them seem so efficient but also doesn't actually move the investigation forward?
Because we, the reader, know that UB knows what's going on from the very start, so this basically strongly implies they're faking it to seem cool and/or competent in front of the Detective.
So to me the question becomes: Is this intentional? Are we meant to believe UB are a scarily competent unit, like the Detective believes? Or are we meant to believe they're deliberately putting on a show for the Detective, because we as the reader know something the Detective doesn't? Because if this is intentional, then it's brilliant to write it this way, because the narrative is literally putting on a show for the reader while UB put on a show for the Detective.
But that would mean that we as readers aren't meant to take UB's competence and efficacy at face value, which, as a gaggle of romantic interests and a unit the player character later joins and becomes a part of, means that these characters aren't as competent as they pretend to be. That they're faking it 'til they're making it. And I doubt that was the point, because it would certainly paint UB in a bad -- or at least a deeply silly light, and M!shka doesn't seem like the author to vibe with that sort of portrayal.
Personally, I think we're meant to take this seriously. There is a section in Book 2 that's explicitly meant to show how the Detective has become a part of the team and how well they work together, in contrast to how the Detective initially was an outsider and jealous of UB's effectiveness. Implying that they're faking it would also go against the characterization of several UB members, particularly N, who is all about telling the truth from the very start.
But if we're meant to take this seriously, then what the fuck are they doing? What are they doing with the few pieces of evidence/clues we have that's so mindblowing? What are they doing that's so cool but not cool enough to advance the plot? How do they work like a well-oiled machine while essentially rotating on the spot on square one lest the Detective realizes they actually know everything already? How are they doing this for two full work days when going over the collected evidence would take a few hours, tops?
And, assuming we're meant to believe it, this whole section is just a blatant lie, anyway. Not only do we see how UB constantly bicker, disagree, and fail to communicate with each other, but several characters mention how the Detective makes them work better and has made them into a true team, but here we see how they're very competent from the start? Is that just the author manipulating events to make the Detective seem more like a sad sack who gets to join the cool guys later on?
The least charitable interpretation is that M!shka wants us to believe UB are amazing and competent and attractive, and that the Detective (and by extension the player) should want to join them, but simply doesn't know what they would do to show us this or what they'd be doing with what evidence to support this portrayal, so she had to just say they are super cool and awesome and competent in the vaguest possible terms and just use her authority to force this to be true in-universe, thus forcing the player to believe it, too.
AUGH.
Sorry I've been replaying the first book for fic outline purposes and I am losing my mind. Also s/o to @ribbonsandfeathers for helping me put these points together and being my sibling in arms in the T/W/C trenches.

Morning (over there at least XD)! I come with a very crucial question! We know that reverse roles Dawn at first is very unamused with Robin's banter at first and doesn't indulge them, because he's much more no nonsense at his job. But I imagine it evolves a little as they work together, but before he starts flirting. If Dusk's brand of banter are the bird puns, teasing, and friendly but intense competition, what would be Dawn's brand?
Goood morning, I rise!
Dawn continues to make things harder for his future self. The first time they met, getting the introductions out of the way, he may have come to the same conclusion that Dusk got to
"A robin, really?" "The Robin. Robin Hood." "Ah, of course. A thief makes for a much better code name."
All while smiling sweetly in his usual tone, and of course Robin immediately felt patronized and decided there's beef to be had.
But he likes the little thievery comments! He sees they're good at that, and yet, for some reason, they always get a reaction (it's mostly because it's Dawn saying them), so he hardly has any motivation to stop.
In calmer moment, they may gossip about targets or other bystanders at events they attend undercover, it's a weird little truce where they don't taunt each other but other people together for a change. If Robin paid more attention then, they'd notice that Dawn's comments are much more scathing when directed at those other people, but alas, they are oblivious
And the competition is still there! Robin still is the driving force behind that, and where Dusk cares a reasonable amount about not being outdone, Dawn is proud, so we have two idiots who just push themselves again and again to show off and be better, hence the higher ups going "So whatever you're doing, we're not touching that. But we are gonna assign you partner missions because you're scarily efficient when you're together" and then called it a day
So, on paper it's a pretty similar dynamic! Thievery jabs, teasing, competition - just that all of them are received differently, and the teasing and competition feels much more serious to Robin due to Dawn's everything. Not even the flirting gets him out of that little predicament, unfortunately </3

A fun concept:
Throw your characters into a horror movie and give them the stereotypical roles. Who dies first? Who's the final survivor? Who would have the best and worst deaths?
And who would be the killer?
I'll start, using my own story's characters bc I have brainrot and it won't leave me alone khgjlkfldgjfhg
Ironically, Life dies first. They're too upbeat and positive to actually have a single braincell in their head. Life would not grasp the concept of stealth and just think they can hug the killer.
They can't, lmao
Death would die just a bit later, because they'd go looking for Life and end up running into the killer by accident. It wouldn't even be their fault, they just end up knowing too much. Death would be too smart to get caught out like just a regular death.
In the case of the final survivor, I'd have 2. Adam and Maria are a dream team duo and would be scarily efficient together, since Adam's a detective and they're siblings. Also kinda ironic since Maria is literally dead in the story, but she has a character bc an AU exists as well (shush I have brainrot I'm allowed to AU my own story-)
Destiny would have the best death, but only in terms of pure satisfaction. They're the one that completely denies there even is a killer, and then gets completely obliterated later in. Destiny's a whiny little bitch and they deserve it for being annoying to Adam.
I don't think any of them fit the killer, they're all too nice except for Destiny and I think Destiny needs to get blasted lmao
Chrissie, I think, would be on the list of victims but they catch the killer before they even get to her. Chrissie has victim energy, but I really really don't think she'd be killed- she's wayyy too smart for that. I feel like it'd be a case of Kevin from 'Home Alone' with Chrissie. She's terrifying and probably also set traps around her house.
YOU KNOW WHAT, I MIGHT WRITE THAT MYSELF-
But back to the topic at hand!
That's my horror movie cast, made out of weird characters my brain thought up one time and now it's a story! I think it'd be a comedy horror, really, knowing the characters.
Anyway, go! Go and make all your weird little characters live out a horror movie! Put them in the cast because it's funny!

considering their upbringing, my MC would be quite hesitant around Mordred at first... according to their understanding, children need to learn independence as fast as possible. So they'd very awkwardly try to treat Mordred as a small adult and take them at their word. Which might result in Mordred getting hurt (sure, I'm totally allowed to climb out the window/ride this horse/have eaten this suspicious plant a hundred times) and MC having a serious panicky guilt trip and backpedalling their relationship to "you're safer with adult supervision that isn't me". Mordred's feelings will be more hurt than whatever injury they got, and someone will have to mediate a meeting, where they can apologize and reconcile and MC realizing that ok, they actually like me and miss me and suprisingly don't want me gone, I'll just have to do better from here? They will become a tiny bit overprotective for a while after that and test the poor child's patience, but eventually find their balance between protection and independece in their interactions. Or so the headcanon goes. As far as the adults go, MC is used to lurking around in the shadows and observing and forming a strategic approach to stay as unnoticed as possible (which in their experience meant the longer they don't notice you're here, the longer you're allowed to stay). It makes them a very efficient spy and scarily informed about all kinds of goings on. They might act on their own to rectify a few small things (I don't know, some merchant scamming the kitchen staff, some stable hand pawning off inventory for a gambling debt, some baron planning to off his wife for the mistress or a tax collector embezzling money), but will deny everything if confronted. They do NOT like attention as in their experience it leads to finding fault and nitpicking and they never take compliments at face value. It's a gambit, an angle to get something from them and they will wait for the other shoe to drop... and when it never does, they might find it in themselves, to trust, just a little, in other's good intentions. They'll be most suspicious about Gywar, because he's always around and keeps seeing them, while the others are busy with their own stuff. Arthur's sincerity will wear them down eventually. He is also so shiny and attention grabbing that it makes it easy for them to lurk. Kinda ninja and would also fit pretty well as mute if you include that.
Looks would be average height and sinewy build, scary scar on their face, but super long eyelashes and warm honey brown eyes. Long and super soft side braided dark brown hair, light skin and their resting face always looks like they are planning something. Which is only true about half the time. The first few months, they will not be caught without at least some light leather armor for protection, even when sleeping. Gywar better be prudent if he ever does catch them asleep, their first reflex after waking is to grab for a knife. And the ultimate expression of trust for them is sharing a bed with someone and actually sleeping. Sex might be easier, but staying after is the difficult part.
..this got long, but I thought waaaay too much about it already for some time, ok!?
Your MC is lovely❤ also, again, don't ever be sorry for the length, I love long asks!
The dynamic with Mordred had me dying of laughter! Mordred would be like "but... but... why don't you want me anymore?😢" and he won't really mind the overprotectiveness as long as you respect his will (otherwise, he will pout a lot).
The longer they don't notice you here, the longer you're allowed to stay.
If the ROs hear something like this they'll start crying, I swear.
Gwyar will check on MC pretty frequently even if umprompted, they understand if MC distrusts or is cautious of them so they will be careful not to overstep. In any case, their priority is your comfort so expect a lot of free coddling.
I feel that Arthur being attention-grabbing will be a lot of MCs shelter from interactions and the court world.
Sex might be easy but staying after is the difficult part.
A delicious recepie for misunderstanding and pining, beware.

some get big enough to see with the naked eye if you dye some of the water!
most micro organisms are dyed regardless so it's easier to spot on a slide (at least in their region?) and it doesn't tamper with a majority's chances of survival bc most don't have eyes!
I wouldn't say they're evil but they'd be a little freaky if they were dog sized? they're like box jellies or the portuguese man o war but scarily efficient!
i so want them
