i wouldn't say the vibes are especially similar beyond surface level but if you liked black sails you will almost certainly like the terror because it also has devastating monologues that will forever raise your standards for storytelling, filthy sailor guys with every disease, a guilt riddled rage-fuelled captain who can't stop lying and alienating the people around him, strong and well written anticolonial themes, a cunty second in command who steals every scene he's in, schemes that go horrifically wrong with tragic consequences, homoeroticism, and boats.

for instance i feel like a valid criticism of she ra is that it uses its war as a narrative backdrop that it doesn't take seriously or flesh out very deeply. which doesn't ruin my enjoyment of the show (because the show is not "about" the war!!) but it exposes cracks in the writing from time to time. however saying that, this is a show intended for children and teens to teach them about love and self worth and queerness so I think it's really up to each viewer how seriously they wanna take the war aspect given it never intended to go that deeply into the concept.

will never not make me insane how mania broke the mold for fob albums in so many ways but most prominently perhaps is how it broke the mold color wise, and the symbolism of that. it took the red/blue alternating color palette and combined it to make purple, it took everything fob was and in doing so went in a full different direction- something that was so clearly fob and so clearly new all at once, at least to those that were truly listening. and then, so much (for) stardust is just black and white. devoid of all true color- the light/dark dichotomy of the album is obvious from that alone. its take what every fob album did before color-wise but stripping it down- wholly new again, nowhere near the red/blue from before, but purely fob, not dressed up, its all out there in your face, black and white. the symbolism of colors here feels so so intentional and important and is forever so insanely clever of them

I feel like Bracken/Brackendra had the potential to be like. Not Weird if Brandon Mull actually wrote it that way. Brandon Mull seems to go back and forth on whether or not its weird for them to have feelings for eachother (it is, at least the way Brandon wrote it). In ROTDS when Ronodin proposes to Kendra, she's like "omg ew,,ur so much older than me" and then. Calls Bracken her boyfriend. You know. The guy thats the same age as Ronodin.

When Bracken first appeared in the prison with Seth, I actually really liked him. He was witty and actually had some personality. But then when Kendra met him, all his personality became reduced to "ok guys let’s give Kendra a straight love interest because we killed the last one in the previous book". I just feel like the two Brackens we met are so different in terms of how they interact with the story. Sorry for ranting but as a previous Brackendra girlie its just interesting to think about
