sorry if this is any way discouraging… not exactly the word im going … offending? jdjdjdjd I just wanted to say hearing when you say that a fic like the ichiishihime one it took a lot of time and how you wrote it slowly! like it was… very inspiring to see to me. because fjjfjf writing is v difficult and i always get frustrated when I write slow and i keep hitting blocks (honestly most of the time it’s not even blocks but more like it’s those fics that just a bit of marinating in between of working on it) but seeing how much your writing is so good and how much I really really love it. It making me more appreciate of writing slow, despite how much I want to get the end and get frustrated when there’s no progress for months or ahaha a year and more. it doesn’t feel like im alone in it and like — I love your writing so much and it makes me wonder, why can’t I love and take pride in my own too in all its slowness. as the craft of writing is like that sometimes

this was not offensive at ALL, don't worry! rather, i'm very touched you said this because if this is the message my writing process is sending then i am very, very happy about that!

i'm not sure if you can relate to this, specifically, but i think for a lot of working/studying people, we're very used to having deadlines and having to be "on" all the time that maybe some of it seeps into our attitude regarding our hobbies as well. i don't mean this in a kids-these-days way, but we are also in a culture of fast consumption lately with streaming and binging, where it seems unnatural to spend YEARS with a series — even though that was a pretty normal thing to do only a few years ago😅 the urgency of that kind of gives the impression that you have a limited window of time to stay "relevant" before people stop being interested in your work and move onto something else!

BUT. the thing about fandoms is that they are alive forever. even if everyone else has moved on, there's always going to be at least one rando on the internet writing fic and one japanese artist on twitter still dropping renaissance level masterpieces. which is all to say....the pressure to write fast is the devil talking and we must NEVER listen to it!!! there is no deadline and even if you feel like there is, there are going to be days where you have IRL commitments that keep you busy. and sometimes you might have an entire afternoon off but still be unable to come up with a single word. my creativity has always arrived in random streaks and if i'm free, i try my best to take advantage of it and put it all on a doc. if i'm not feeling creatively inspired, i don't write at all, i just do something else that i enjoy doing.

believe it or not, when i was writing A Combination of Factors, there were WEEKS where i only wrote 2-3 sentences a day. yeah, that's slow, but i still put it out eventually, right? the chadhime training scene in Therein Lies the Heart was actually something spinning in my head since 2019 (when i got back into the bleach fandom again) but i only managed to work it into a story earlier this year.

the reason i'm giving these examples is because sometimes it's good to sit on an idea for a while, even if the urge to share a good thing instantly is definitely understandable! more often than not, you'll get more good ideas you can add to the story and build it in a better, satisfying way. i know this from experience because there are a lot of stories that i was so excited to share that i jumped the gun and then later thought, "damn, i still had more left in me." not that i regret it because i go in, add it anyway and then update the author's notes in case any re-readers get confused by the extra content that definitely wasn't here last time :D my policy on that is: it's fanfic, who cares, i make the rules. it also helps to have more than one WIP so you can always have something else to work on if you feel like writing but this one particular story is giving you trouble.

anyway, i love the part where you mentioned taking pride in your own work because i think you definitely should! even if no one loves your fic but you, you still deserve to pat yourself on the back because ONE WHOLE PERSON enjoyed your story! the important thing, as i always say, is to be deeply involved and self-indulgent with it! 💖

Ok hear me out here. First time grocery shopping as a couple. Missus being unused to not having to like very intricately budget out the shopping and avoid treats. Mtty being like "oh you looked at thsi item for 5 seconds longer? Let's get it"

wait like the first time after they've moved in together after she gets back from college in the states :') and she's been on such a tight budget until she got her first big break publishing deal that when matty is watching her pick things up and put them down he's sneakily adding them to the cart, and maybe she's run off at the last minute to grab something else and he's like "you should grab that body suit you were looking at, too" and she gives him a look and is like "no, i don't need it" and he rolls his eyes and does it for her and the missus being the missus when they get up to the register she's looking in the cart and she sees all the things she put back and she's so ready to argue with him about it but he's already scanning and she doesn't want to cause a scene in the middle of the store and so when they get to the car she smacks his arm and is like "why did you put all those things in there!!!!!!" and he's like "because you were wanting them and i have the means to buy them" and she's quiet for a minute and debating whether or not to be angry and she gets quiet and she's like "don't ever do that again without saying something to me first" and he's like "what? i can't buy you things now?" and she's like "nope!" and they both know that that's not going to happen or stay a rule but matty laughs and lets her work out her irritation before she looks at him and is like "thank you, i love you" and he's like "love you, too, darling, now go put on those outfits and give it a spin"

Regarding Kate, at first glance it's just her being a soppy romantic, but it's also her saying she's ready to commit to a relationship with Princeton (I'm counting it as foreshadowing).

Among other things, it's another way Rod's juxtaposed to Nicky. Nicky is very overtly supportive to the point of being pushy, enough to make Rod uncomfortable at times. Here Rod is saying that he's going to wait until Nicky's ready to come out to him, then he'll be there for him. He wants to respect Nicky's boundaries and comfort as much as possible (maybe partly because he doesn't know how to reach out by himself? In what I've seen, Nicky is always the one trying to reach out to Rod, never the other way round, until the end of the show. Reaching out to someone shows you care about them, and I personally wouldn't rule out that Rod would struggle with that because he's so damn repressed.)

Bonus observation: during the wedding scene (at least in the video I've got of the show), when Rod says "I have a whole secret life that none of you know about! Not even you, Nicky!", Nicky is physically taken aback. The idea of Rod keeping secrets from him like that is just that shocking to him.

Believe it or not, I have answered thsi ask twice beore. Tumblr just said no each time I went to post it. So like, third times the charm we hope.

1.) Do you daydream a lot before you write, or go for it as soon as the ideas strike?

yes, to both. I write when the inspiration strikes and if I get stuck or really while im writing. I am going through scenes or little ideas. Most of the time, I people were watching me writing- im pulling facial expressions and practing diaglogue in in a little voice or like seeing if people can get into the position I can imagine them in.

7.) Post a snippet from a wip.

Nick had never been the brave one. Even as a child, he had cowered behind Matt, silently watching and waiting for his first knee-jerk reaction. Everyone in Nick’s contact lists were names that he had heard from his brother's mouth first.

I rotate between writing works at the moment. Although right now, I have really been hyperfocused on my hungbucks fic whichi s linked above if you wanna read it! However I am still working on asks, the friday wrestleprompts things, and my requests are still open! So if yall guys wanna send some in, I love getting requests [i also went through like a stupid period of deleting some or tumblr ate them cuz I dont remember deleting them.]

11.) Do you write scenes in order, or do you jump around?

I have to write scenes in order. If you're every wondering why it takes me so long to get multi-works published or out. Its because I am trying to logic out the next scene or the next sentence and my brain ins only giving me ideas for three chapters ahead.

29.) What’s something about your writing that you’re proud of?

In all honesty, I am enjoying writing again now that the fandom is awake and happy. There is so much less stress in the aew fandom that it brings me joy after being and producing content for either dead fandoms or fandoms that were just so fucking toxic it felt like walking on eggshells. I am happy and like proud of my writing since people are itneracting with it i na way that shows me that im getting my groove back. I am proud that my writing prokoes emotions and actually people see that theres real human emotions in it now, not just like sentences for the sake of sentences

great-grandchild of one of the first gamemakers, nerilla belongs to a long line of capitol greats. their family is mostly notorious for their work in the hunger games, and very rarely do any of the barons take a job that isn’t somehow directly tied to the games; their brother, for example, is a painter who remakes particularly popular scenes from the games. 

so, growing up, they found themselves in the lap of luxury. they had no need to work for anything; if she wanted something, she got it. there was only one rule in the home: be good. if you were good, you were set for life. 

originally, nerilla did not want to be a stylist. she wanted to be a painter, but her brother was already well on his way to doing so, and a rule of being good was no competing with each other. assuming styling people would be the next best thing, she was thrown to work by her parents, immediately placed as an assistant to one of the oldest game stylists working at the time. here, they found a love for the occupation that was all but forced upon them; they were still making art, but now someone could wear it on their body. fashion is statements. how better to communicate ?

nerilla grew in popularity very quickly, but, to the dismay of their family, refrained from becoming a games stylist, instead taking jobs from high-paying & esteemed capitol clients. they, blatantly, denied their parent’s insistence to style for the games. they did not say why, but the thought of dressing someone to send them off to slaughter made them sick. for a while they did do some game-inspired outfits for clients, but stopped because, again, for some reason it gave her a guilty conscience. 

she’s in the right place in the wrong time when it happens. a party. a slip of the tongue, a case of mistaken identity, perhaps even a deliberate act. this person changes nerilla’s perspective on everything. it happens so quickly, one moment betrayal leaves someone’s mouth, and suddenly nerilla’s like a spark that’s been lit up, with the sudden, incredible realization: yes, this should be changed. 

it’s dangerous. it’s idiotic. it’s the very antithesis of being good, and yet they can’t help it. everything about panem is wrong. for the first time, they put into words their disgust with the treatment of the districts. 

applying to be a stylist in the next games was the logical step. get close to those in power, closer to those without. her name recognition, their work recognition - all enough to have landed them a spot in a career district, maybe, but they shut that idea down. they wanted to experience the worst. they wanted to see it. 

okay thsi is going to be nigh incoherent but. u know colette from ratatouille ? edna mode ? that’s nerilla. very strict. very much likes things their way. 

she’s also Very Scary, and it doesn’t help that she dresses Very Scary. this is on purpose. only the bravest of crows reap the rewards from approaching scarecrows, and nerilla has no patience for cowardice. also i feel like most people in the capitol who dress eccentrically do it with bright clothing ? WHERE ARE THE GOTHS SUZANNE. 

they will literally never say it but they care... a lot. about their work, about other people. they’re just very tough-love about it.

THEIR BROTHER ! he’s a painter and very pro-capitol and i imagine him as someone who looks/acts all sunshine and rainbows but is every much Evil. they’re close for now, they have been since they were children, but as the rebellion kicks off their relationship will go sour so quickly. please. Sibling Angst. also i imagine he’s like a year younger or their twin but he can be older if u want.

Day 6 - Demon // Ritual // "Everything you see in here is either haunted, cursed, or has been used in some kind of ritualistic practice." -The Conjuring, by James Wan

The city streets around him lay desolate and silent as clouds lazily drifted over the moon and shrouded Atsushi's path. He barely paid any mind to the darkness; this, he was accustomed to with his work in the detective agency. Instead Atsushi focused on the prickling at the back of his neck and the eerie sensation of eyes following him-

That, and the person-shaped shadow that lurked in the corner of his vision, only to flee when he turned his head.

Grimacing, Atsushi tucked his hands deeper into his pockets and continued his brisk walk, hoping to get home before the shadow had a chance to reveal itself. Briefly he wondered if he should try tricking it into thinking he lived somewhere else, but then he remembered seeing it rummaging through his things one night and decided that his efforts would be fruitless. He had internalized this defeat, this eternal hopelessness, ever since he was kicked out of the orphanage. If something was stalking him, fine. If they planned on killing him, who would miss him? All Atsushi could think to do was keep his hands clenched in his pockets, ready to fight if he needed to.

What he didn't know was that was exactly made him so enticing to his pursuer.

Every time Dazai followed the boy, a strange rush swept through his bloodstream and made every inch of his skin tingle. He saw how the world had crafted a hell just for him, only to throw him out to endure a different suffering until hunger ate his life away. Yet the world refused to be merciful, refused to give in and ease the boy's pain. Instead it gave him a dangerous job, and an infatuated demon on his tail. How deliciously cruel.

There was a light emanating from him, one Dazai wanted to pluck from this dirty world and admire on a pedestal. The flames he was forged from burned brightly, scorching his being until there was barely anything left, yet this person before him felt like the welcoming sunshine on a spring day.

He had to take it. That kind of warmth would make his existence just a hair more bearable, and everything was his for the taking.

If he had all of his powers, that is.

For a moment he considered cursing underneath his breath, lamenting his lost near-omnipotence. While his powers could be held from him as a weak punishment, though, his brain could not. As soon as Mori had told him about his probation, Dazai retreated to the books to find out how to do rituals. Through days of endless watching, rummaging and a few close calls, he had managed to collect enough of Atsushi's personal belongings to perform a ritual. To top it all off, Atsushi was only just beginning to catch on to it all - how endearing!

Dazai couldn't wait to welcome that doe-eyed innocence into his kingdom. He made arrangements, pissed off a few coworkers, and set strict rules to ensure his love's safety, and when he fell asleep, Dazai could finally stake his claim.

The first thing Atsushi noticed when he woke up was that it was unbearably hot. There was a thick blanket on top of him, one much heavier than he owned, and the light filtering through his eyelids seemed red. He debated letting the heat lull him back to sleep, but it proved too stifling to do that. Besides, there was a faint rustling beside him, as if someone were sitting next to him. Lazily opening one eye like a cat, he saw that was exactly the case.

A man with dark curls sat on a chair beside the bed he was on, leaning forward with his elbows on his knees and fingers pressed to his lips. He was watching Atsushi with interest, stiff as if he hadn't moved for hours. There was a childish glee dancing in his eyes, one that Atsushi could tell was uncharacteristic despite knowing nothing about the man. He opened his eyes completely, allowing their gazes to truly meet. Than man's smile widened, and it only served to make him more chilling.

"Good morning," he greeted, finally leaning back. "I hope this bed is more comfortable."

Arsushi sat up, rubbing the back of his neck. "Than?" He asked groggily, taking in the room around him.

"Than your old bed, of course. I hope to give you the best while you're by my side."

The room around Atsushi was both familiar and not, an idea he had trouble wrapping his head around. It was much bigger and more ornate than any room he had ever been in, paintings hung up on the wall depicting grotesque scenes he didn't care to analyze. The entire area was tinted red, though not enough to warrant suspicion- it was as if a red-tinted spotlight was shining on the entire room. On shelves and scattered on various surfaces were small trinkets Atsushi remembered being given. A small glass cat figurine, a stuffed animal his coworkers won for him at a festival- all things he knew were his, and all that had disappeared after the night he caught that figure pawing through his things.

Eyes blown wide in realization, Atsushi twisted to face the man again. He was still smiling. "W-what is this?" Atsushi asked.

For a moment, the man chuckled, expression softening. The laugh Atsushi heard around charming but shallow, a sound thinly veiling a darker evil. "Why, it's my room for you. I wanted to make you feel at home."

Atsushi could only respond in stutters, watching as the man stood. He would tower above Atsushi if he were standing, but Atsushi felt especially vulnerable sitting in the plush bed. The man put two hands on either side of his hips, sinking the mattress down as he leaned closer.

"Everything you see in here is either haunted, cursed, or has been used in some kind of ritualistic practice," The man offered in an explanation Atsushi never asked for, eyes darting to the paintings and items that weren't Atsushis for emphasis. "I'm sorry for breaking into your home and taking your things, but I intended to give them back. I intend to give you everything."

Atsushi shivered at the warm breath fanning over his ear and neck, though he couldn't say it was from the thrill of an attractive man whispering in his ear. "What do you want?" He asked shakily. "How long do I have to be here?"

The man ducked his head, revealing to Arsushi two long, sharp black horns. "I've already performed the ritual- and it took so long, since I don't have full access to my powers right now," he added bitterly, turning away from Atsushi when his expression soured. The shadows crossing over his face made Atsushi tremble, and he was thankful the man spared him. When he had his attention again, his face was bright. "I've bound your soul to mine! I hope you don't mind. I'll take good care of you, honest."

"You did what?" Atsushi yelped, pushing the man away. "I don't even know your name, let alone where I am or anything about you! You can't just...force me to do this without asking me!" 

Atsushi didn't have a chance to see the expression of the man when he pushed him until he straightened out. His lips were drawn in a tight line, his eyes devoid of the cheer they had before.

"There's a lot you have to learn, Atsushi," He said sternly, voice devoid of emotion. "What's done is done. You are here now and you don't get a say. It's best you learn to like it now. I promise I'll be nice if you listen."

Dazai didn't need to get in Atsushi's face for him to start trembling, wishing he could cower in a corner and disappear. When he whimpered Dazai softened slightly, reaching out to him.

"Hey, hey," he said in a hushed voice. Atsushi feared the sudden switch in his demeanor more than his previous anger. "I know. It's natural to be worried and scared in a situation like this. But I'm on your side, okay?" When Atsushi didn't answer, Dazai sighed, trying not to let his frustration show. Instead, he cupped Atsushi's face."We'll take it slow, ok? You'll only have to learn one more thing."

Atsushi sniffled, wiping his eyes to distract himself from the urge to push him away again. "Yeah? And what's that?" He asked.

The man smirked- a perfectly normal smile, save for the mischief clear on his face. "My name. I'm Dazai Osamu. I'm thrilled to finally meet you."

opening 500 words of wish chapter 1?

it’s too much for me to copy paste so i’ll spare you all and just link wish again. if anyone is wondering, 500 words ends at about “Maybe he didn’t sink. Maybe he’s conscious. Maybe he’s holding onto a patch of wood, treading water.” (which is a rule of three repetition i’m very pleased with!)

okay, for this one: i used a bit of the canon dialogue for Viz in the opening scene! i thought it was a fun way to ground what was happening in canon despite the fact i was still diverging.

i think a very funny part of this is that i stressed for a while about how i was supposed to justify Ace being here instead of his canon activities before realizing “wait no one gives a shit they’re here for fake sabo drama” and completely ignoring that. absolutely freeing

i then had a lot of fun as the scene started going forward, bc i needed to fill air time to stress how far out ace was from sabo and his boat. i also had to buy time for dragon to still be able to go save sabo without ace seeing it! ace is basically going thru the panicked stages of grief before he’s even reached sabo, which was a very fun thing to write and a very effective way to pad for time

i do admittedly struggle writing action scenes, so i was p worried abt starting thsi fic off by jumping so immediately into one. i think my strengths are mostly in emotion and internal monologues, which.... granted, this scene does end up being more of that than actual action. i had to edit to add more action in a few times, lmao. i think this turns out well, tho! maybe not my strongest chapter, but it’s definitely a strong introduction

also wow looking at this again i sure do love rhetorical questions

reading this again i’m remembering i was very fond of the imagery of “his limbs feel as though they’re filling up [with water] through every wound” to show how exhaustion and injury were affecting his swimming

Peter the not one but two close ups on Dr. Hulme’s face when he says a euphamism alluding to gay...the FLASH OF LIGHTING ACROSS HIS FACE THE SECOND TIME....what even is the tone we are trying to convey about what is happening, whose POV is that tone based on, the girls literally aren’t even in this scene. this is such a fucking mess

“she hasn’t DONE anything it’s the um...” me explaining why this movie portrays hetero murderers as lesbian murderers prior to this point. also i feel like this having happened really doesn’t excuse the gay looks melanie gave kate in teh beginning, if anything it not only affirms that straight people can recognize gay people BETTER THAN THE GAY PEOPLE CAN IDENTIFY THEIR OWN IDENTITY, but BECAUSE they weren’t gay in real life and this MOVIE is branded as a very accurate portrayal, it gives straights an excuse to be like “don’t be like juliet humes’ dad, just ASSUMING people are lesbians just because they write each other love letters and gaze solefully into each others eyes and kiss on the mouth and--” [again, the majority of the homoeroticism comes from direction, and to a lesser extent artistic license, than the first hand sources directly quoted)

“i think we should avert trouble before it starts” i don’t know whats...i dont know the word....but like a) hes saying thsi about a girl HE NAMED juliet like ah yes when u dont think someone has a crush on someone else the best way to guarantee that is to FORBID THEM FROM SEEING EACH OTHER (and also uh??? they were already separated for 2 months??? if anything theyre probably more intense bc tehy MISSED EACH OTHER??? let them calm down??) or applying “i think we should avert trouble before it starts” as general irony, which like. even on the off chance that’s a direct fucking quote, it’d be more effective to see it from a real person unscripted in a documentary, otherwise its cloying at best and tasteless at worst.

the weird stilted line read so that the “the very man” is emphasized....also tbh like obviously u shouldnt send ur kids to a psychiatrist for them seeming gay but the scene with the lightening crashing and shit makes the audience feel like they are doing something other than just like. sending kids to a child therapist to maybe have a lesson about boundaries. also again WEIRD THAT PAULINE’S SEXUAL TRAUMA NOT BROUGHT UP AGAIN HERE

yeah show me pauline imagining the psychiatrist dying like oh she’s a time bomb closer to going off sooooooo sccary like that’s. first of all, i’m fighting the critic who says jackson successfully manages to not tie the lesbianism to the impulse to murder in the street, bare fisted, possibly with rings on. if the critic just said jackson ATTEMPTED to do that i’m fighting them. literally the anti gay psych says u should spend time with boys and not juliet and she has a violent daydream and thats what they chose to portray in the movie. 

the intentionally gross closeup of jagged teeth/lips as the doctor slow mo says “homosexuality” melodramatically is.....a choice. it’s not the choice i would have made in order to show the grim humor of the situation.

once again, the relationship this movie should actually be about (the victim and her daughter/murderer) is in the forefront and i have no commentary because shit is complicated and sad in an understandable, believable, tragic way! 

like i really dont know shit about how this could have been prevented because we have next to no info on what was actually DONE, and if youre not basing the horror of the “misunderstood and unfairlycharacterized despite the horrificness of what they did” story in the horror of how easily the tragedy could have been prevented, than what the fuck is the POINT of the STORY? what even IS the stroy that youre trying to tell??? ‘they were creepy and its a scary thing to imagine could really happen but they werent on the exact same level of broad strokes evil that the media originally portrayed them as, its just the murder part that really is that bad?” like what the fuck is this movie even S A Y I N G how did this screenplay get a nomination for an Oscar (it’s because people hate lesbians and think theyre super weird so you get oscars for writing them because aaah u got in THAT headspace i could never, trophy for trying)

why are they naked in a bathtub togetheeeeeer/theyre planning to run away which i know is a real thing that happened so its not a dream sequence so whyyyyy/and under what circumstances/ were these girls threatened with being separated for seeming too gay/allowed to take a fucking bath together naked/also if pauline still sees juliet often enough that she can literally take a bath with her without her parents stopping it/than whhhhhhhhyyyyy are her grades slipping, is she actually sick, has her level investment in her fake world grown from the last time we saw her grades bc that was literally like a year ago so we the audience have no standard to measure that by/again i have watched this movie for over an hour and i still feel like nothing about whats happening is actually being fucking told to me, i feel like its insane that this is a narrative movie and not just a collection of first hand sources if youre going to just casually skip over huge chunks of things that in a narrative story would have to have consequences addressed

4/ Finally, if it were me doing it I'd add one capstone charm called Spin the Wheel and Laugh at God that's basically 'supplant the Storyteller for a scene and do whatever the fuck you want even if it violates setting rules'. The catch is that a) it's a joke charm with infinite Essence requirements; b) it requires the ST to go along with it and also that c) it goes dangerously close to becoming a tutorial for playing WTF.

again i do love it but idk that it goes in thsi style and not some theoretical bronze understanding of CHIM stle or whatever

Scorpion 3x22 Walter’s decision thought

SPOILERS AHEAD! 

REMEMBER...THIS IS PURE SPECULATION...AND MEANT AS A FUN POST...NOT FACTUAL AT ALL

Know that 3x22 end scene, when Walter comes down from the loft, after he’s thought about it all (the things he finally remembered, and how no-one told him, even thoygh they all knew all the details... (PS. how... when she told them to get out of the room, and turn off their comms, etc... did they, in their usual way, still eavesdrop?)... 

Know how Walter has the rule “members of Team Scorpion cannot be in relationships with each others...because its bad for efficiency” (even if he allowed Quintis to be the exception of  thsi rule) 

Know how Walter was made aware of the fact that despite her “deceptiveness” and the whole teams “secretive behaviour”, he found out that the feelings were actually mutual? When he thought, probably, that she had “moved on” and didn’t feel the same way about him anymore, he found out she did...

Know how Walter always has a plan, and how he analyses things through? Know how Ralph is the most important thing in the world for Walter? (yes, the team is/was #1 until the day he met the young genius, but it’s been made clear that now it is Ralph) And how he would probably not do anything that would separate him from the boy? So intentionally pushing his mom away, knowing it would lead for the smartest boy in the room to be out of his & the teams life, does not seem logical. And hence cannot be what his intention was. 

Know how Paige, in her usual way, “exploded” and overreacted... fast. As always (remember 1x21, 2x22, 3x11, 3x20...), when it seemed that Walter wasn’t finished talking? 

Know how Walter seemed genuinely surprised how she didn’t think his plan was brilliant? And that she reacted the way she did. Know how he, even though he was pissed at her and everyone, and hence could’ve done it all because he was “upset”, did not show anger really? Notice how far he’s come? And how little progress she’s made (in understanding the genius(es) and all that)? Interesting, ain’t it

Know what conclusion one could draw here? The solution...to Walt’s problem “i wanna date her, and I wanna take her dancing like Ralph wished” presented itself clearly to mr 197. The solution was: “If we don't work together, then my rule doesn’t apply”, so... HAHAHAHA

Saw DSoD

I love how the movie is built, it feels like there's a lot to discuss, in fact we had a pretty long debate about Kaiba’s fate on NAC’s discord. Kuwabara did an amazing job because a Lot of times the visual design of the movie conveyed messages alongside the script, helping make these high-concepts easier to understand. Him and Takahashi worked really great together, and all the animators on board made a great job with how sharp and beautiful the movie became. 

It's great, it was a very good, full story and I cannot wait to buy the bluray when it releases (to see the subs and catch whatever the dub couldn't convey) and see this again to enjoy it some more and catch more of the visuals. (Also Gaia looked very yuma-esque with his colors, nice.)

Under the cut some long ramblings

Dub-script: Felt pretty alright! There were some dialogue stuff (the eight millenium item!) that immediately pulled me out, but there were like two or three and very, very spread far in-between. Lots of added goofs but mostly just side-jabs, which honestly made the characters feel a bit fuller (my favorite has to be Tristan's "you're not crazy, you're just dumb" in the softest voice ever). There's a ton of high-concepts and it did an adequate enough job at presenting them, specially since most are told to us visually, but i'll touch on that later. Felt very true to the movie while keeping a tone similar to the original dub, kinda like Ocarina of Time 3D, it's not exactly the old thing bc the old thing has huge flaws, but it's how you'd remember it with its improvements. Yugi and Kaiba came out particularly well. I fucking loved Mokuba, I forgot that since thsi is the manga canon that means Mokuba is actually a good character. The story: Aigami ironically sorta has the problem Arc V has in which he is more of a walking theme than a villain, but his actions are so very important to everything, his motivations are crystal clear and relatable. Heck, you could make an argument that he shares the protagonist role along with Yugi, on the other side of the coin you can say that Kaiba is the protagonist. It's pretty interesting how Yugi is the only heroic dude here, but he gets the less amount of time because his character story is already told, so instead it's two extremely morally gray dudes with conflicting goals trying to do something for the wrong reasons. The expanded role Shadi gets was fairly surprising. I love that it turned out he was a ghost all along lol. Surprised that the evil/good item split wasn't used to explain away his questionable actions, he was just a friendly ghost who killed for good reasons. Guess it fits with the justice of the time. So the gift of prana was made possible thanks to him "defeating" death, pretty cool. I love, love that Prana Leaving is a self-fulfilling prophecy, and Aigami just gave reason for Atem to return and take it away. Super love the story, memories are such a big part of DM, so seeing it expanded as metaphysics and alternate worlds is a good-ass view. It's a good story, mostly playing with high-concepts and established characters. The prana stuff is overplayed since it's such a concept and a half for a 2 hour movie, but I love how firmly the rules are established and how they mesh with the journey our characters have had, particularly Jou being able to overcome the prana stuff thanks to his memory of Atem bringing his story full-circle, because despite being higher than humanity it still falls below the gods, below those who have truly ascended, thus even the memory of Atem is too powerful. The Visuals: really just gonna continue talking about the story next paragraph, but until then: the movie looks beautiful. The visual designs on everything look amazing, the expressions are lively, the movements are great, the colors were fantastic. The only thing I don't dig much is Anzu's designs, bit too waifu, but alas. Where the visuals truly shine is in telling the story. The opening shot just, god, just so good. I'm guessing the opening of it represents how memories can fade away to the light, to being forgotten, but the ones that persist make way for other memories to follow along and each is a world of its own. I want to link that to stories in general, the power of fiction is that to survive as memories, so while many get destroyed and become forgotten, those who survive make way to others, much like how the original yugioh manga survived being forgotten and allowed for an adaptation world to happen, and a world of Yugioh R, and the world/story of Gx, and its manga, and so on as the Yugioh franchise grows, but it's not even the start of that DNA sequence (also worlds that can survive being forgotten is the DNA of fiction itself, but that's just obvious given the way the worlds are presented) there were stuff before even the original yugioh story, such as what Takahashi used for inspiration. If Dragon Ball was in that DNA sequence, Journey to the West would be there as well above it, helping it survive and shaping it with what's forgotten and remembered of it. And after that metaphor we get the space bridge in the shape of the kaiba corp logo. lmao. There are so many visual things i'll probably just list them at random now: -There's one consistent element i just want to call "ascension", when golden particles happen to represent the powers of Prana, be it to teleport the kids or to send goons to other dimensions. And immediately after its first use we see the sands of egypt and yup, that's it, that's the whole thing, it's much like the sands of egypt, it gives shape to the land but it's not consistent, it changes and shifts and rapidly changes the landscape while it remains seemingly the same, it ascends like a pharaoh would. -Aigami vs Kaiba has one main element: Aigami's cards make the "ascension" happen to the crystal dragons, and it is so great even those seemingly timeless beings fall to it, because they are attached to this world's rules, then BEWD also falls to it, that is why Kaiba's deepest memory of holding power beyond mortals makes for a being greater than sand: stone. A stone so powerful it is above prana, and thusly the stone soldier of obelisk can defeat Diva's whole shenanigans even when they use this ascension to empower themselves or when they defy our laws by using cubes to make all sorts of curved shapes. -Aigami vs Yugi has the coolest representation of Aigami losing himself, with his final monster being much more man-made than anything else, it's just a creature with gears and a machine gun, no longer a being above humans. And Yugi so easily expects his anger it lets him play a triple combo that locks him into venting his rage to his own defeat. -Aigami vs Yugi and Kaiba has the latter two use a plague and technology to try and harm Aigami's creature, but it is too strong. It's also a good inverse, Kaiba is mostly tech-based but at that point he uses biological stuff to do harm and Yugi was more living-creatures-based but switches to technology, or rather progress. While Kaiba devolves in his desperate struggle, Yugi continues moving forward, which is important for what Kaiba does at the end. -Jou in his own memory world owns, the light destroying his memory ultimately falling to the power of his memory of dueling Atem at the end of Battle City is amazing. Having closure with Atem is such a good detail to show off. -Loved, loved LOVED that the space station/bridge was made just like the alcatraz island his dad had, just he uses it to go above war and such things and into a higher place. -ATEM LOOKED SO GOOD. He looked like his early manga self and that was amazing to see. Also just adding here, Takahashi's sequence looked awesome if overly detailed. -Loved how Atem's return makes things go normal by having all that "ascension" stuff go back to the ground, the sands of egypt return to how they should be instead of defying nature. Makes me think that the rain scene has a deeper meaning with how it's water that falls, but alas it eludes me. -Really dug the contrast with the darker "sand" stuff, showing seemingly straight-up death only by ring- oops, there's Kaiba. Going off to his techno-tomb, being sent from a place high-above to the ground, as he slowly dies but gets enough time to finally face Atem one last time, to get the memory he craves the most. He fucking dies, man. -Yugi says goodbye to another loved one who goes off to a place above. It's because she's leaving like Atem with going up to the heavens being another representation of the afterlife you guys. The score: was alright, pretty neat here and there.
