Fic concept: TMFU OT3 AU where Solo and Gaby are frenemy exes who both fall for an oblivious Illya and get stupidly cut-throat about it before realizing that they still admire and are horny for one another based on how competitive they get over Illya and a throuple is the only reasonable endgame.

It had to be a modern au where they're all involved with some kind of niche hobby, though, for the right pettiness vibe. Like, idk, pickleball or something. Or a quirky workplace setting.

Back in the cockpit he asks Gaby whether she has noticed any ID on him. They usually put a chip under the skin these days.  “His name is Illya Kuryakin.” She pulls up the file for him to look at while he settles in across from her. “A mouthful,” Napoleon says and shoves a fork of risotto into his mouth. “Right, Napoleon Solo,” she sasses back, looking up briefly from the hologram screen. “They should’ve turned down the sarcasm before letting you out of the factory.”  “You’re an asshole, Leon.”  “But I’m your asshole.” He grins winningly, knowing she would never stay angry with him. She raises an eyebrow and turns back to the screen, scrolling through the file. “He has a ton of skills, I wouldn’t-” “Come on; say it,” he taunts her. “I wouldn’t count on them letting go of him easily,” she repeats with more emphasis this time and shoves the hologram with a full body scan and CV into his face. Napoleon knows when to stop taunting and skims over the data. He lets out a slow whistle. “Alright. So, he’s got some bite and it would be uncomfortable if he were after us.” Gaby is silent for a moment. “What makes you say that?” She asks, dangerously calm. “The fact that my gun isn’t where it’s supposed to be.” Napoleon says slowly and they both turn around at the click of a gun being loaded.  “Do not move,” Kuryakin says in a gruff voice.

Napoleon Solo who doesn’t know who - or what - his parents were picks up android Gaby Teller because she is useful, not because he actually likes her company, thank you very much. Together they travel the universe, stealing things and saving people, in about equal turns. That is until they trip across a soldier stuck on a desert planet while on the run and can’t leave him to die.

They’re just going to give him a quick ride to the next space station. He is not their responsibility and really invites more trouble than Napoleon wants to. So what if his superiors are out to kill him. Illya is a big boy, he can look out for himself.

Random thought: Gaby, Illya and Napoleon successfully completed a mission and they are waiting in a safe house for a helicopter to come and pick them up, but suddenly a horrible storm comes. The helicopter can't fly in such weather, so the three of them are stuck in the safe house in the middle of nowhere until the storm passes. Due to the storm, the electricity in the house fails, so they have to use candles and maybe a flashlight. Napoleon suggests that the environment is great for telling horror stories and that it's also a great way to pass time. Illya never found horror stories particularly exciting or terrifying, so he protests, but since Gaby is immediately on board, he gets outvoted.

Napoleon is a good story-teller, but his stories aren't actually very scary. Illya's narration is a bit dry at the beginning, because he's not very into it, but once he discovers that the stories actually scare Napoleon, he gets more enthusiastic (he cannot let an opportunity to mess with Cowboy pass by) and by the end he manages to tell a story that scares even Gaby (who's been very unflappable until then). On the topic of Gaby, she knows the most terrifying stories and she can narrate them in a very scary way. Illya finds himself genuinely full of fear for the first time because of a horror story. Napoleon regrets suggesting this activity, because he's now absolutely terrified and he also embarrassed himself by shrieking in a high voice once (or twice, but he'll deny it forever; too bad he has two witnesses).

After they finally decide to go to sleep, Napoleon finds that he very much doesn't want to be alone and immediately sneaks off to share Illya's bed. Illya acts like it's an annoyance and complains that they won't fit properly, but he actually also doesn't want to be alone (and wouldn't object to sharing a bed with Napoleon even under different circumstances, but he'll never admit that out loud). Napoleon is even more clingy than usual.

1. how many works do you have on Ao3?

Ten! I am a prolific reader, but not so much a writer.

2. what's your total Ao3 word count?

253,223. Holy moly. I remember when cranking out 1500 words was a lot for me. I never expected to break that Big Phat 100k, which is yet another reason gallifreyburning is the wind beneath my wings. Half of those words are hers.

3. what fandoms do you write for?

The Old Guard and Jupiter Ascending are my two most dominant fandoms per stats. I've also written for Mad Max, the MCU, Leverage, and The Man from Uncle (the 2015 movie), but I wouldn't call these my most active reading fandoms.

4. what are your top five fics by kudos?

5. do you respond to comments?

Unfortunately not. When all of my fics were relatively short and I only got a handful of comments on each one, I replied individually to each comment. However, we have THOUSANDS of comments on INAIED, and although I've replied to some of the particularly consistent and wonderful commenters, there is no way for me to get all of them. However, please know that they are all loved.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

and reason quite decay, for Mad Max. It's a pre-canon snippet to the 2015 movie, about how Max lost the little girl he keeps hallucinating. I was very, very much into the "all lower caps, title is a line from a poem" aesthetic. Still am, to be honest, but A Fine Chain is just CONSUMING me atm.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

and sat him doon at her bed feet is a triptych of each of the Leverage OT3 being a selkie and getting together with the OT3, so that's technically three happy endings in one, but our INAIED boys worked so hard for their payoff that I have to put them first.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

I have been lucky enough to avoid this so far!

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

I've written a grand total of like...two smut scenes, both of them m/m, but DEPENDING on how much longer I can tolerate the slow burn of A Fine Chain, I may be writing something f/m in the near-ish future!

now private chats between mutuals about IMAGINED character smut, on the other hand...

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

I don't write crossovers - they generally don't appeal to me as a reader so I avoid them as a writer.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not as far as I know, and I hope and pray it never happens to me. INAIED got a few weird pings last year, but so far I've been very very lucky.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

I have gotten a request or two, but I don't remember if a translation was ever posted?

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

LOLLLLLLL. If it weren't for @gallifreyburning i would still be languishing at 5-something chapters of AFC and a handful of fics, and I would never have written for TOG at all.

14. What’s your all time favorite ship?

Harsh, bro. I don't think I have a very favorite ship, but I definitely have favorite dynamics. See my "you are responsible forever for what you have tamed" tag

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Much Nothing About an Ado. My post-canon Mad Max fic where Max comes back to the Citadel and Furiosa decides to Hit That, but in the sexy way this time. But hey! I thought that It would take another decade to finish A Fine Chain, and I am ROLLING!

16. What are your writing strengths?

Mmmmfdfnggg. Umm...I'm very good at long, flowery descriptions, and at grounding clips of dialogue to specific physicality and setting, I think? When I want to write something, I usually see a movie of what I want to write playing out in my head, and then I have to figure out how to translate those actions to the page in a way that accurately conveys the action and tone. I block out the scene in bullet points first, then bang out a loose first draft, then go back over everything and rewrite it from the top, trying to make sure that someone reading it would see and feel the same things I did when watching the movie in my head.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

TOO MUCH FLOWERY DESCRIPTION. Sometimes I get lost in the movie in my head. Also, my crippling fear of intimacy sometimes translates to being hesitant to get to the actual climax of the story. I have to have acres and acres of slow burn, or I'm writing a single poetic one-shot with artsy film blur. This is where a good co-author is worth their weight in gold - you can't get away with kicking the can forever.

Also - I need to see if this still happens in AFC, but I feel like I rush through smut, and sometimes that pr0n deserves to be LINGERED UPON.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

It's nice, if it's used correctly! It's off-putting, if not.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

OOF. I saw the first Tobey Maguire Spiderman as a wee babe, and wrote an absolutely passionate proto-whump fic about it in my spiral notebook along with some very bad illustrations.

20. Favorite fic you’ve written?

INAIED is a Lifetime Achievement (TM) for me, the thing that makes me genuinely frustrated I can't brag to my coworkers about the massive novel I co-authored. I will be proud of it forever and ever and ever. I own a physical bound copy of it, and take it out every now and again to look at it fondly. I Helped Write That Thing. It is dear to my heart.

thanks to @welcometololaland, @actual-sleeping-beauty, and @rmd-writes for the tags! I gotta be honest it took me a while to figure out what I was gonna rec in this one. I have the opposite problem as Rae in that I don't tend to get that emotional about things I'm reading, plus I tend to avoid (now more than I used to) topics I think will make me sad. BUT I figured it out!

RWRB: A Picture on Your Corkboard by bleedingballroomfloor God, this fic destroyed me. I almost didn't read it because I'm not usually one for amnesia fics, but I took a shot and the big angsty parts were brutal but so, so good. I can't explain why it's so good—and why it hurt more than your usual angst—without spoilers but iykyk. Thankfully for everyone this one has a happy ending.

Loki: thicker than water by @mirilyawrites Mobius dealing with his trauma post season 1 revelations, dealing with the guilt of everything he's done... this was so real and so beautifully done, and just broke my heart. I know we'll never get anything like this in canon but this fic is canon to me.

TMFU: The Be and End All by ingu This fic is WHY I don't read unhappy endings anymore. I mean, I'm reccing it because it's so so beautiful, and if you want to be absolutely massacred there's no better way to do it. It hurts all the more because of how perfectly it fits the situation and the characters in canon, the end feels as inevitable as it is brutal. Do not say I didn't warn you.

But then I didn't learn my lesson because I'm also going to rec (also TMFU, this one is OT3) Forever is the sweetest con by @heytheredeann Ok, this is MCD, so you know what you're getting into. I literally had to take a break reading this one because it was hurting me too much. But the structure of it, working backwards in time, is so brilliant and makes it SO MUCH WORSE. I'm tearing up just THINKING about it. GAH. (ily Ely)

WIP Tag Game

This is not a complete list, but the fics with higher writing priority in no particular order (nobody wants to see the entire list, trust me lmao)

Hangover Cures (TMFU, Gaby/Solo/Illya): modern AU meet-ugly where Solo and Gaby meet on their accidentally joint walk of shame, things spiral from there ;D I only need to finish the last chapter, which is a helloween party, so it's off-season af hahaha This was supposed to be a one-shot, but of course that didn't work out as usual (Sorry duck for dragging out your birthday gift over years xD Nobody is surprised tho). This is pretty lighthearted for me, only some sprinkles of angst for the finale :D

Shadow Play (FFXV, gen): Another WIP where I drastically underestimated the wordcount. So far it's 40k of gaslighting the shit out of Noctis in an AU where Regis died early, so Noctis became king before he could befriend Prompto, who now needs to save the day as a junior Crownsguard. Angst and Suspicion everywhere. The Kingsglaive crew snuck in uninvited as well haha Honestly it's great fun, but also very intensive on the plotting side of things. I have the feeling I need just to wing the next chapter to get back into the groove

Synthesis (BNHA, Hawks/Dabi): Dabi basically outs himself as a Todoroki pretty much instantly, which gets the ball rolling for a lot of media and family drama (and a lot of angst). Hawks is still trying to get to the League via Dabi. Both Dabi and Hawks lie their ass off to each other and to the public and to everyone honestly and drag each other deeper into the mess. This is not really a redemption fic in the classic sense, I guess, but the ending is going to be somewhat happyish, whenever that may happen xD I knew this was going to be a long one, but nevertheless I underestimated HOW FUCKING LONG THIS IS GOING TO BE send help pls

[untitled sick fic] (TMFU Gaby/Solo/Illya): I wanted to write this pinch hit for the last TMFU gift exchange, but I had another fic ready that fit well enough, so it got sidelined. So basically it's just Gaby being the sick one for a change. Illya and Solo take care of her and Illya feels a little useless (but that gets resolved). Pre-OT3 but they're like 0.5s away from making out aka my favorite setting. The amazing thing about this is that I planned it as a one shot and so far it stayed a one-shot :') I'm so happy :')

En Pointe Blank (TMFU Gaby/Solo/Illya): Mission fic Red Room style. They're infiltrating a ring that trains kids as both ballet dancers and assassins. Again Pre-OT3, but I think I'll end it with them getting together. Gaby and Solo pose as Heir-of-the-Teller-Nazi-Clan and her himbo husband, Illya adopts a bunch of baby assassins as their trainer. This is honestly a tough one. I wanted to experiment with a non-linear narrative, which worked fine in Spes Ardens (FFXV), but somehow it didn't flow. I think I'm going to rework this into a linear chaptered fic, but I need to plot a little more first.

Tides of Time [working title] (FFXV, gen): This is a gift for Lemon, so I won't say too much, but Bahamut is doing his Thing, Noctis is suffering and Gladio needs to step the fuck up as a Shield in a situation where his combat strength is pretty much of no use ;) I'm looking at a 7 chapter outline and I'm 12k in, but I don't dare to estimate a posting date or a word count :D

I try. If I'm going through a tough moment they often get unanswered, but I generally answer otherwise. Unless it's someone asking me to write more.

What's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending?

Based on the number of times the word "bittersweet" is used in the comments section and the crying emojis, likely don't talk just hold me closer (Star Trek: Discovery). Its sister fic nor made me feel so sweet is also a bit of a downer™

What's the fic you've written with the happiest ending?

I don't tend towards *unhappy *endings in my substantial works, but Dirty Talk (TMFU) is unrepentantly sappy so that I suppose

Do you write crossovers?

I don't believe I ever have

Have you ever received hate on a fic?

I'm not sure I'd call it outright "hate", but have received multiple comments on a million different reasons upset at me because I guess Napoleon being an unreliable narrator is not obvious enough for everyone.

Every now and then. And, statistically, the threesome/moresome kind.

Even if I had I have no clue how I'd know.

I don't think so. I have translated a few of my own and others' fics as French practice.

What's your all-time favorite ship?

Hmm I'm not sure I have an OTP to Rule Them All. The TMFU ot3 seems an obvious answer. That said, I am a chronic multi-shipper within fandoms so I rarely even have an OTP within a fandom. This may not be obvious in my writing but it is my reading habit if nothing else.

What's a WIP that you want to finish but don't think you ever will?

Before anyone says "so give me a line and take me home", it's getting finished. Just not quickly. Stop telling people I'm it's dead

In terms of genuine "yeah I'm probably not gonna finish that", birthright, my Rogue One Pacific Rim fusion.

What are your writing strengths?

I would say writing nuanced/ambiguous/fucked up little guy characters? None of my favourites are free from sin, if you feel me, and I like to explore those sins.

Also @takingoffmyshoes tells me they want to write Gaby/Napoleon the way I write Gaby/Napoleon so that, apparently :D

What are your writing weaknesses?

Structuring conflict and resolution. I often find myself resolving conflicts too quickly/easily in longer fics.

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

Entirely dependent on the context. I've done it multiple times, in multiple languages, some instances more successfully (imho) than others. For me, the most seamless way to integrate it and have the audience understand is via framing things in the POV character's thoughts (assuming they understand what's being said).

What was the first fandom you wrote for?

Doctor Who. Somewhere in the presumably purged depths of LJ there was an 11/Rose fic I wrote.

What's a fandom/ship you haven't written for yet but want to?

Too damn many. If I had to pic one, Widows (2018), a film which left me clinically feral in the best way, has a woeful lack of fic (or people who've watched it in general. Go watch Widows. It rocks. It will fuck you up and devastate you emotionally. It's got muscly Viola Davis in a tank top. Range.)

ETA oh and Lower Decks. Because the world will be forced to endure the result of my "Mariner and Ransom have been fucking since season one and neither of them acknowledges it and both of them kinda loathe themselves for it but the sex is so goddamn hot that it keeps happening" conspiracy theory slant on watching the show.

What's your favorite fic you've written?

I'm going to completely sideline the bigger/more popular fics of mine (such that my limited popularity is). They're fine. I like them. "so give me a line" makes me want to eat plaster (Affectionate) every time I return to it. Choosing trompe-l'oreille (Atomic Blonde) because it fucks severely. By which I mean it is both emotionally and literally haunting. That is a form of fucking, right?
