fun facts
American Pie is about evolution of rock & roll through the sixties, following the 1959 plane crash that led to the death of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and The Big Bopper. He also references many of the major events during the sixties
Tom Cochrane wrote a demo called "Love is a Highway" in the late eighties, but shelved the song. Several years later he revisited it, and it became "Life is a Highway"

my kid asked for the Lightning McQueen song, and of course I smiled and put it on, but then when it was over I said, "did you know this isn't the first singer to sing this song? do you want to hear the first singer who ever sang this song?" and I put on Tom Cochrane, because I want my kids to grow up right

So, there's a popular Canadian musician, Tom Cochrane. (Folks outside of Canada probably know him best for "Life is a Highway"~) And one of his songs, "Sinking Like a Sunset", starts off by talking about how real life isn't like a fairy tale like Cinderella, but how love helps you get through the tough times in life.
Y'all probably already know where this is going, but the part that really made it click for me is these lines near the end of the song:
Won't you hold me now And make things alright 'Cause when you're with me here The sun comes out at night Making me forget We're sinking like a sunset

🎶 tumblr's favourite sing-along song 🎶
ROUND 3 / 10 - TAKE 2!
(if you saw this poll earlier without any tags whatsoever, no you didn't 🤣)
please remember it's not personal if your favourite song that could've fit in with this group isn't here! this is only one poll with only ten options - there will be a bunch of amazing songs that don't appear in each round but this doesn't mean i think the ones that missed out are less deserving of love & recognition. this competition is ultimately completely meaningless, it's just for fun. so please don't swear at me about "[popular song] erasure". thanks! and enjoy! 🥳
~~~~~~~
the winner of each round will return in semi-final 1
top 5 in semi-final 1 will battle it out in semi-final 2
top 2 in semi-final 2 will go to the grand final
grand final will crown the winner ✨Tumblr's No. 1 Favourite Sing-Along Song of All Time No Backsies✨
Quote
What the aestheticist resists is the notion that moral value has ultimate priority over aesthetic value. Moral catastrophe tempts us to fall into despair, and to condemn this world, but aesthetic value redeems it. Aesthetic value finds the final value of things both in their quintessential characteristics and in their manifestation of deep natural principles. It allows us to place suffering and evil within a wider context. So it is when we turn our attention to the world as a whole that, I claim, aesthetic value has priority.
Tom Cochrane, “Attuned to the aesthetic”
Oh, I thought softening people up was what I do, but it's actually a Contrapoints mission statement, too.
She's better than me at sort of engaging with these other peoples' emotions and stories, at least theoretically.
I, quite frankly, don't give a fuck about their stories and expect them to engage in a man's logic and reason, which I'm pretty relentless about. But she's right that these straight white males are emotional, not logical-- something I also know, but don't coddle much anymore. I guess what I'm saying is her tactics are better than mine... engaging with the emotionality and ridiculousness of the stories and narratives these idiots have formed in their idiot mind is the way to get them to engage with more reasonable points of view.
Whereas I'm more like, uh, life is my logical and yearning-for-a-more-imaginative-world highway and I'm gonna ride that all night long. I don't get the results I'd like to see with any rightists I engage with, it seems, but I guess it's ok to have a answer of logic blowing in the wind and people like me talking about how toddlers are not men... reclaiming the narrative of who's really mature and who's not, since it's a rightest strategy to portray leftists as immature, ideologically brainwashed college kids.
Also, I really am pretty au naturale by accident, and I really do see these red-pilled cucks and all that as toddlers compared to me, and I don't really have it in me anymore to be a patient and good mommy to them. They've got a Bugs Bunny inside them that only knows how to take carrots and feel like a winner... that's how the rightists 'think' -- grabbing all the carrots for themselves like life's a video came, maybe throwing a few back like a king throws out some coins -- and it's a huge weakness that comes from the traditional behaviour of Christopher Columbus and king babies like Donald Trump.
I'll think about possibly engaging with the idiot rightist mindset more, but damn do I ever find it unexciting to dig into the rightist peapod brain too deeply... their dipshit minds are painfully small when it comes to sociopolitics, but if they master a skill, like how to bowhunt or carve a hunting bow, the rightists can be quite good at that skill, ya know. They're not totally useless. Somehow they manage to pull up their pants and make a lot of money, much of the time.
Too bad I never take cum up m ass, literally, because 'there's no load I can't hold' is such a good lyric. I'm great at edging, though, and fucking people til the sun comes up, so it has two other meanings that work for me.
