floyd has big brother flavored mommy/daddy issues you can't convince me otherwise, sorry, i've spent too much time thinking about it. he is crushing on a troll too old for him and he doesn't know how to deal except to use his adorable baby brother charm. he thinks it's working (question mark)

these images were drawn in three sessions over a longer period so i'm no longer that happy with les's look in the first part since I was still figuring him out, but man do i find this idea entertaining and cute and want to share it even though i also feel really weird about it skdjbvkbfc 🙈🙊😳

thoughts on my sidereal chart pls? xx
pisces sun, libra moon, leo rising, aquarius mercury?
Sidereal pisces sun: Very strong gifts in psychic prowess. Can understand the universe however this is a secret amongst mortals. Most will never know how life is a dream for you, so you tend to keep it to yourself. Your brain is what is able to create your reality with such ease, people will tend to mimick that. Superstar energy for sure. whenever i see someone with pisces sun energy theyre usually a muse in some way shape or form. you guys shapeshift alot. wether through art, clothing style, or just anything that calls you to it. You guys are the stars of the zodiac. So when i call you guys muses, its more so a reflection of the cosmos. Whenever you are being yourself its like were receiving a message from the clouds, its like you guys just know without knowing. Its a beautiful thing to witness.
Libra moon: I love sidereal energy because once thing i know about them is that you will NEVER know anything about them unless they want it to. Gossip energy is really high with libras so they know when to keep things personal and when to sprinkle a little bit of true mixed with a lie. I aint tryna call yall liars, but i mean... if you gotta hide the truth i aint mad at it lol. Anywho, libras have this glamorous aura around them that makes people garner around you. That popular frequency is heavenly, we capture a glipse of your aura and the world is in awe. Your energy is more so gentle and calm with the moon in sidereal libra. Heavy thinkers with this placement, they normally use poetry to release whatever is on the heart, or whatever it is they desire to let out that venusian energy.
You have the gift of gab to. Your eloquence is for sure noticed so youre respected but many once you walk into the room.
Balance and justice is a necessity for you because when chaos hits the room their needs to be some level of peace there in order to get things back in shape. You cant stand in a room full of war too long, all though libras are built for it, most will never see it that way.
Leo rising: A STAR. When we you walk outside just know youve been seen and heard, love. Your style and charisma shows like no other. I feel a sense of being misunderstood with the leo rising. People may thing your egoic but its truly because you shine on their shadow. This is problem most people with leo sun/moon/rising face but they keep moving with stride. Your confidence is a healing presence. You represent the sun, so you heal others by just walking in the room. I can also say this about your pisces sun as well.
Do you want to be famous? Your big 3 is built for it just asking lol

Hi, hello, I did a whole meta post on Izuku and now it’s katsukis turn! This is, how the mha fandom completely misunderstands a character. Stans or antis don’t really matter since they’re usually both wrong.
I only touched on this briefly in the other post, but this all stems from the complete inability to understand a story and character. Because it isn’t just Izuku, or Katsuki, or even Uraraka, it’s all of them. Everyone in the story is misunderstood when you can’t even get a basic understanding on storytelling. I don’t wanna destroy anyones fun, that’s bad, but I will say that if you can’t even get the bigger message by this point in a show, you seriously need to go do some research on storytelling. Because art is EVERYWHERE, understanding art is such an important thing no matter how much you wanna say it isn’t.
Not to mention the hate on art in general stems from nazi propaganda and the general alt right disliking art as a whole. A lot of art is political and most of it is left leaning. Stop it guys. Please, listen to your English teachers. For the love of god please just get it through your heads so that you don’t fall for nazi bs AT THE VERY LEAST.
Okay, this part of the meta is over, let’s get into the nitty gritty.
Katsuki’s possibly most misunderstood quality is the fact that he is the perfect mix between a superiority and an inferiority complex. Over and over again I’ve seen people use both terms for him, but it comes out in two ways: they either excuse Katsuki’s actions with deku, usually by either saying that it was bc he was insecure or through making up backstory that simply was not given to us. Like how in many fanfics, I’ve seen people “add” to bkdk by showing Izuku possibly being in danger, and that Katsuki was “protecting him” from other bullies actions. Even though this was never the case in canon because the entire point of Katsukis character is change and growth. Even in his apology, there is no actual excuse. It just happened and he realized he was shitty for doing it. He then apologized for his actions and has lived through the remainder of his first year (after dvk2) doing everything in his power to atone for it. He worked extra hard for Izuku to learn ofa, he made sure that Izuku was safe and even sacrificed himself. And that all built up to his apology.
But I ALSO see people who understand this, but completely miss the point or outright ignore it. They don’t believe that Katsuki will ever change, and if he tries then he’s still bad and bkdk is inherently toxic.
I wanted to fit this in somewhere, but I honestly don’t know where it would go so it’s just going here. It’s just important context that people often miss. In the very first chapter/episode, when Katsuki is introduced and we get that oh so familiar scene, people often see it as a glimpse into bkdk relationship throughout middle school. Even though, the whole point of this was to show the absolute worst thing that Katsuki ever did. It’s why it’s right at the beginning; if you’re at rock bottom, there’s no where to go but up. I’m kinda mad that two specific scenes that were made as extras alongside the manga were never animated, because it gives so so SO much context to deku, Katsuki, and uraraka. But I also kinda feel like it wasn’t animated BECAUSE of how gay it is? Anyway, not the point.
Tumblr media
I really do recommend reading it, just look up “deku and bakugou rising part 1”. Anyway, this scene is soooo interesting. For one, it feels a little too real for bullying lol, but two, it completely encompasses their middle school relationship. I’ve seen people show a graphic story with Izuku and Katsuki’s relationship. One where Katsuki was a terror to Izuku in every way, that fully physically abused him.
But that just isn’t the case.
Katsuki is a middle schooler. A fucking kid. Not only that but he cares about Izuku, even if he tries to deny it. He would never actively burn him and leave him with scars. He wants to make deku get away from him, make him feel like shit too, but never outright HURT HIM. And this is proven even more in this panel!
Tumblr media
First off, the translation is wrong so keep that in mind while I talk. But, there’s two things I wanna point out. 1, that this behavior is out of character for Katsuki, and 2, the soda can.
It’s ooc for him because the fingers kid is pointing out (pun not intended) that he wouldn’t normally go this far.
And as for the second thing, let’s take a closer look.
Tumblr media
It’s hard to read the blurry image, but it says “lip service”. It’s a subtle callout on Katsuki’s words saying that Izuku “deserved it” for “getting in his way”. He knows deep down that this was wrong and is trying to cover it up with his normal “Katsuki attitude”.
Why am I bringing this up? Because it’s something that’s never pointed out, even though it’s the perfect argument to combat the people that think Katsuki is wrong. That he is bad in every way. That he will never grow up or improve because he just doesn’t deserve it. EVEN IF he SHOWS to have cared about Izuku, SHOWS that he’s grown, and SHOWS that he both regrets his actions and apologized for them.
Now, I think a reason of many as for why Katsuki is such a hated character even with development is because people project onto him. Simple as that tbh. He presents a very relatable and traumatizing problem for the mc, so people relate him to their own bullies. I can’t blame them either, I did too. Probably up until dvk2, and that’s just when I really looked into his character. So, yeah, he’s hated because he’s relatable.
But I feel like there’s another reason.
I mean, it begs the question: why is Katsuki so targeted by EVERYONE? I mean, think about it. Bullying is common, sure, but there’s got to be more to it if even bullies hate him. If the only reason for him being targeted is projection, then shouldn’t those bullies actually LIKE him? He’s a dislikable character! Half of those people are still like the edge lords from 2015. Of COURSE they’d like a problematic character.. right?
But I think it’s because Katsuki presents an immediate problem to the mc’s love interest. The girl. Uraraka Ochako. And it’s so blatant that even homophobic fans have to DEFEND it from being gay by either making up stuff that’s not in canon (like saying Izuku and Katsuki view each other as brothers), or by talking about how it’s a shonen and that would “never happen”.
EVEN IF both of these arguments are wrong and never really built on “real evidence” I feel like it’s still important to talk about. The brother argument is simply about perspective. Tbh it’s just as valid as any other way people view their friendship. All about the viewer until proven otherwise in the story. So, when people say that argument, it’s literally pointless because it’s SUBJECTIVE to how you view evidence. I saw my own sibling dynamics in them but I still don’t see them as brothers because I purely see them as romantic.
As for the shonen anime argument, yeah it definitely has some basis I’ll admit that. But that argument DID NOT work in 342 or 348, and it DID NOT work in the literal basis of the mc, and it did not fucking work when horikoshi made the female love interests “competition” a queer woman who’s not jealous and actually in love with both of them.
I and many other people still have that nagging thought in the back of their head, what if we’re wrong? What if the antis are right? But that’s why us on the internet, tumblr, tiktok, or any other social media you can think of, TALK about it! We’ll never really “know” until the author reveals it ofc, but it doesn’t change the fact that what we CAN CONTROL are our own personal thoughts and ideas? What can we make of the stuff given to us? That’s why I’m doing this. Partly for my own hope and sanity but also for the sake of others. That there IS hope, it does exist.
It looks like I’m gonna have to make a whole other post for him because I still have more to say, but Jesus Christ this has taken me almost a week to make and it’s ungodly long compared to my other metas. I want my stuff to be easy to consume and read but that kinda requires me to keep these things relatively short and worded as best as I can. So sorry for the wait sisbosndojsa ty all tho <333

(ALSO AI GENERATED BKDK PAINTING??? I THOUGHT IT LOOKED SICK AND IK I USUALLY PUT A MANGA COLORING OR SMTH AT THE END OF THESE BUT LOOK AT IT!!! ITS SO COOL!!!!)

Here is the link https://twitter.com/hellogoodpals/status/1369475884164341763?s=21 and yes it’s definitely a joke but it she said it the same time all those ccs was talking about how it’s very okay to make kys jokes at ccs so it just comes off as super stupid on her end lol
Okay, wait, lmfao, first of all, we love me having that account muted and ide remember why lmfao.
But second of all... do people not get the joke? I just... do y'all not... okay, so, let me explain because this is literally how my sense of humor works and I'm realizing why so many people must misinterpret it:
The joke is a joke on people telling female CCs/gamers to kill themselves, and also a joke on the stereotype of "not like other girls." The way she says it, with a fake accent, means that she is imitating or embodying the "not like other girls" stereotype. This stereotype is a misogynistic, derogatory depiction of women, particularly teenage girls and young women, who engage in hobbies or do things that are not considered traditionally feminine, and are thereby written off as trying to act "not like the other girls," by supposedly intentionally acting more like guys (i.e., by not wearing makeup, playing video games, reading comic books, being sporty, etc). Now, the suicide joke part is a twist on what I assume is the common tendency of people to send messages to female CCs and gamers to kill themselves. Both of them mixed together result in this sort of commentary on the expectation for women to simply brush off these kinds of comments, the rare desire to actually take the hatred to heart and follow through, and the notion of literally being "not like the other girls," by actually killing one's self, instead of brushing off the comments, like expected.
Lol so basically, ik it looks like I read way too much into the joke. But as someone who just makes dark jokes on the fly all the time and oftentimes has them misunderstood as offensive because people don't get the traumatic context I derive them from, I'm almost certain that this kinda joke probably did have all these layers of complexity to it, but that they came so instantly and innately, that it was able to be said in this one-off kinda manner.
Now, should any kind of suicide joke be made to an audience on-stream, especially given how much of the mcyt crowd is young and/or mentally ill? No, for the safety and comfort of that audience. But was this a joke that was, like, making light of suicide for insensitive reasons? I highly doubt it.
I don't think I explained the dark comedy aspect of this joke well at all. I fucking suck at describing what is good and bad about different kinds of comedy and humor, I'm sorry. Just, what I'm trying to get at is, that this was not, like, a "haha people who want to kill themselves are stupid/dumb/funny" kinda joke. It was not making light of suicidal people; at its core, it was making fun of people who tell women to kill themselves.

How I play Mallory
(I am very new to tumblr but not to rp. I have 13 years experience. Just bare with me. I can rp in message or on the timeline. I really love the theme of redemption for Michael. I feel he was misunderstood and needed compassion. I play Mallory both canon mixed with AU. Multi-para to Novella. I can play her before she comes to the Coven, Before or after she completes the Seven Wonders, at the Outpost, or after she goes back in time. I prefer not to kill Michael.) What if the one who would save the world was born of angel and of witch? Being a direct Salem witch descendant, every generation of Mallory’s family had a witch born. Her line goes all the way back to Scathach, being the last descendant. She never knew her parents. Her mother died in childbirth and her father was completely unknown to her. Raised by her nurturing grandmother, Mallory grew up in a loving home, and her grandmother was her world. They are very close. But after many strange incidents of dead plants thriving in her presence, insects and small animals coming back to life and a dramatic presentation of bringing her grandmother back to life at her funeral, her grandmother had her sent to Miss Robichaux's Academy for Exceptional Young Ladies. It was for her own safety after their small community had turned on them, running them out of town. My Mallory can feel the pain in others but it is not quite developed. She can especially feel Michael’s pain. She is his complete opposite yet similar in that she holds great power. He is death, she is life. He is darkness, she is brilliant light. Though she is opposite, she carries a connection to his soul. Perhaps she and he could balance one another if they were allies. But I would like to explore the humanity within him and perhaps have Mallory stop the apocalypse through compassion. I see Michael as a broken little boy deep inside the darkness not understanding why the ones he loved the most left him. He wants acceptance and latches onto strong nurturing women. (Cody fern said something like that about Michael. Lol) Mallory is nurturing, compassionate, and at times naive. Her innocence and trusting nature in Cordelia can be seen when she is saddened that Cordelia had started fading after she completed the Seven Wonders. Cordelia is like a mother to her. And I feel that Myrtle would be like a second grandmother to her. I can picture Myrtle taking her under her wing and helping her to gain confidence in her powers. My Mallory was afraid to use her powers after the threats and vandalism that was done to her grandmother after her display of power at the funeral. She was ashamed of her powers. On the show Cordelia had told Mallory to never be ashamed of her power. I can write Mallory at any timeline. Before she joined the coven, during her coven days, or after the apocalypse. And even during the alternate timeline. I do crossovers too. I write Mallory multi-para to novella and have some examples of my writing if you wish to see it upon request.

Hi guys, I am super excited to be a part of this and just to get conversations and plotting rolling I’ll do a little introduction. Please shoot me a message if you want to discuss plots, I’m raring to go!
Who are you?
Hi, I’m Zolo. I’m 24 and I work as a copywriter which is really cool job on most days but sometimes really annoying! My timezone is GMT+6 and Astor marks my return to the RP world after about 4 years so I’m super excited about this.
What do you live for?
I love debating and acting - I’m a part of a drama troupe. I also really enjoy cinema and books and my taste ranges from super high brow shit like Tarkovsky right to the funniest commercial comedies like Zoolander - same goes for books. Basically if it’s well written, and has a good plot/narrative, I’m into it. So hit me up if you want to talk movies or books or even music, I love discovering new stuff to watch, read and listen to!
Do you have any pets?
Nope, not a huge animal person though most people in my life have been trying to get me to warm up to dogs for as long as I remember! Don’t get me wrong, I have rescued pups and I think they are super cute, I just don’t feel responsible enough to have a pet, really mainly because I’ve been living alone for a while now.
If there was another you, who would it be?
This is a really strange question, I thought quite a bit about this and I think it would be whichever muse I’m currently playing. I think it might be a negative point for an RP-er and I really respect people who can play characters starkly different from themselves but I usually paint shades of myself into my muses and often see them as a reflection of something inside me. If I had to see myself from an outsider’s perspective I think I would find different aspects of my personality in my many muses.
Favourite piece of dark academia, if any?
Brideshead Revisited by Evelyn Waugh, Dead Poet’s Society (both, the book and the movie), The Class by Erich Segal, If we were villains by M.L Rio
Which type of dark academia are you?
I’d say I’m a mix of classic and casual dark academic. Yup.
Is there a particular skeleton that caught your attention?
Ah yesss, I loved The Tempestuous right off the bat. I envisioned her a deeply flawed but morally sound character and I feel with people misunderstanding her and the layers of complexities that is her personality, she could be a great character to explore this roleplay through!
Do you have…
Favorite faces to play? Not really, but I generally like getting an essence of a face through gif hunts when I choose faceclaims.
A character trope that you find yourself always writing? Ugh, the misunderstood snarky and mean outwardly but actually good character or the out and out angsty and reckless rebel. I usually give them subtle ticks and I write them very very differently from each other but yeah these are the broad tropes I usually go for.
A role play-related pet peeve? Clique RP-ing and when roleplayers are wayyy too focused on romantic connection and ignore plot progression of the group as a whole in the process.
Would you rather…
Would you rather be famous when you are alive and forgotten when you die or unknown when you are alive but famous after you die? One of my favourite movie lines is “I want to become immortal, then die.” So yeah I think I’d like it if I lived on even after death as a part of humankind’s history.
Would you rather never use social media sites / apps again or never watch another movie or TV show? Never use social media sites for sure because if I stopped consuming good cinema and book I’d have a creative block and lose my job lol.
Would you rather be completely invisible for one day or be able to fly for one day? Be able to flyyyyy! Imagine the free PR, I’d be famous for the rest of my life hahah!
Would you rather have everything you eat be too salty or not salty enough no matter how much salt you add? Not salty enough because I anyway like food slightly less salty than the usual amount.
This or that…?
Iced or hot? Iced coffeeee for sure, living on that stuff.
Cake or pie? Cake, eating a slice as I write this.
Antique or brand new? Antique, I think it’s more charming.
Call or text? Call, I’m a very lazy texter
Online shopping or going to the mall? Going to the mall, I can’t trust online shopping for clothes and things.
Ocean or mountains? Oceans, I’m a total water baby, used to live by the sea the first 10 years of my life.
Money or free time? Money because with that I can hire people to free up my time!

May 16th-May 22nd, 2020 Creator Babble Archive
The archive for the Creator Babble chat that occurred from May 16th, 2020 to May 22nd, 2020.  The chat focused on the following question:
What are you trying to show or tell with your story that you find to be underrepresented?
Eightfish (Puppeteer)
-Mind control/mind reading where both people are okay with it. I like themes of trust -"Superpowers" without secret identities. Because researchers aren't always evil goddamnit! -Portraying people who hurt others not as card-carrying megalomaniac villains but as pitiful and broken people. I haven't gotten to this part of my story yet but I hope I can do it well when I do. -Queer characters but they never say that they are or talk about it in any way. Yes I know I'm probably the only one who wants this
Also, maybe the idea that you don't need to "do anything" with your life for it to be worthwhile? But I'm not sure that I believe this myself
Deo101 [Millennium]
Mostly I'm trying to write about love, and I hardly think that's underrepresented! But, I'm also trying to show a bit of my own personal disabled experience, and I find that the kinds of things I've experienced are hardly represented at all. so, I think I'm trying to show a sort of hope and positivity for things that I think are usually pitied and viewed negatively, which I wish were done more.
chalcara [Nyx+Nyssa]
I just wanted a good ol' classic Eddings-style fantasy romp, but with characters that would usually be cast in the "evil" role, without going the "misunderstood" route.
Plus I wanted to write about shitty family (born, found and married) and that you do NOT have to forgive them in the slightest to move on and better your life.
Cronaj (Whispers of the Past)
Hmm... One of the main things I want to express with Whispers of the Past is that after past traumas, you may not be the same, but eventually, you can be okay again—even if your "okay" of now, is very different than your "okay" of the past. Normalcy isn't a constant. It shifts with time and becomes something new. A new stasis. A new peace. A new normal. I don't know if I've ever seen another story show this in this way. Another underrepresented theme in WotP is that of the hero choosing mundanity over the amazing. When the quest is over, and all is said and done, and the big baddie has been vanquished, the hero doesn't become ruler, or claim bountiful riches, or sail across the sea to find new lands. No, the hero returns to a world that is familiar and unremarkable. The hero would rather just be an average person.
shadowhood (SunnyxRain)
-Fanfiction. I’m very surprised there hasn’t been a webcomic talking about what it’s like to create fanfiction! But overall the culture involved around it and being a creator. -The relationship and hardships of having a stepparent/being one. Particularly stepdad/stepdaughter relationships -Anger as a reaction to trauma. I see a lot of trauma portrayed as mostly sad, but I want a story where the heroes feel anger, where it’s seen as both a motivator and a detriment -The hardships of dating as someone who’s both touch aversive and on the grey spectrum. Not everyone would be as wonderful or understanding, but it’s important to be around people who are and will stand by you.(edited)
eliushi [a winged tale]
This is why I gravitate towards all these stories made by independent creators I think. So many personal and poignant messages. I’m with you there on the queer characters Eightfish. I want a society where it’s fine to be what you wish and respected to be who you want to be. I think having more positive ways of showing how we can reach that sort of openness can be helpful. In AWT I further explore: - characters in STEM fields and approaches to research design - informed consent and what that means - how to live even when things are falling apart around you, when things are falling apart within you - navigating through crushes, confessions and friendships!
Wow the beginning sounds like the objectives at a science lecture and you won’t be wrong thinking so
Joichi [Hybrid Dolls]
For my Hybrid Dolls comic, there are several things I want to explore: - Psychological trauma and the effects or damage it can give, without proper treatment. -Writing queer characters without them needing a self discovery episode. But I know some identities are better to be upfront? But in the story, they simply live normal or exciting lives - Narcissism in a relative that one doesn't have to forgive. Being treated as invisible or judged by age, birthright. - Other Concepts of love explored. Attraction that isn't conventional romance. - Friendship bonds between girls, and my own take on an eccentric quirky girl lead. - Being unapologetically feminine, girls who doesn't need to feel like being 'one of the guys' I'm aiming for more character variety in historical fiction, instead of yet another story of a girl 'defying gender norms' by raised as a boy/disguises trope in other similar comics. So the women in my story, use their wits and charm.(edited)
DanitheCarutor
I complain about this all the time, so I'm just going to do a quick overview since I'm sure everyone is sick of it. - Abusers can be smart, popular, generous, charismatic and subtle. I'm kind of sick of them always being portrayed as really obvious, and sometimes really stupid, while there are people like that it's not very practical for them all to be like that. - General mental health stuff. More open representation of it, that it may be something you'll live with for the rest of your life and how that's okay. - Trauma, how it can change you, make you lose sight of the person you were and make you lose interest in things you used to enjoy. (this is coupled with mental health) - Non-romantic relationships with a queer cast. While this is showing up more in fantastical indie works, not very common in slice-of-life type of comics. I can only imagine this is because readers would find it boring or too mundane (can't tell you all how many people tell me my comic is boring. Lol), but being a person totally sick of romance in everything I wanted to do something focusing on family, friendship and the relationships we have with ourselves. - You don't always heal completely. I've already mentioned this, but I want to put a focus on how someone who's been through a lot of shit doesn't alway heal completely, and that's okay. I see in a lot of media where people just overcome their issues, and they live happily ever after with everything all perfect, I want something along the lines of "we still got a long way to go, but we're doing better and we're happier than before". - Not having labels for everything. This sounds like hipster trash, but I don't see the point in putting labels for every character. Like, I put labels for them, mostly during Pride, but it feels pointless in the comic. Apollo is happy to say he's a gay man, but with Julian they're not interested in categorising themselves, all they want is to be comfortable and I don't see nothing wrong with that.(edited)
LadyLazuli (Phantomarine)
For me, it’s the importance of communication and empathy, and the dangers of its absence. And it’s something I’ve had to think about a lot recently, being more active on social media Everyone’s got their reasons/methods for cutting people off, but I’ve never been a huge fan of a point-blank communication cut unless it’s absolutely warranted. And I’m not a fan of instant demonization when someone messes up or does something I don’t agree with. People are people. We’re all different and we all mess up and we all can change. Keeping lines of communication open is essential for allowing that change, or else we all get locked into little echo chambers where anyone outside is automatically The Worst.™ In a world where everything has gone to hell - and may go further yet - how can things heal when no one is even listening to each other? Where the other side is automatically at fault no matter what? It’s something I grew up struggling to understand (maybe because I grew up outside Washington DC, lol), and really affects me to this day. And if you do end up protecting yourself with silence, how can you still allow other perspectives to be gleaned? I don’t quite have the perfect formula for it. But unless someone is genuinely trying to cause harm, I try to at least attempt to understand where they might coming from - whether I accept it or not. Otherwise it’s so easy to see a lot of people as monsters. It’s a complicated topic for sure, especially nowadays. But yeah. Something like that
Miranda
Hmm that’s an excellent question. Well, a big thing is the varying effects of trauma and ways to handle it. Mainly how burying the past and ignoring traumatic events can affect someone. Also that villains can be people we relate to that just take an extreme way of reaching a goal that most people can understand And how shared experiences can bring people closer (not a unique one) I also want to portray queer characters that are not solely defined by their queerness and don’t have to announce it to everyone.
Tuyetnhi (Only In Your Dreams!)
- Having some talks about the implications of asking what you wish for and the potential consequences that comes with it. - Having more unappologic Vietnamese things happening in the comic. Giving representation to some common things that most Vietnamese Americans (or Asian Americans) can face in terms of relationships, roles, etc. Also since er i'm also directly affected by this, how does the Mixed-Asian Identity plays about it too.(edited)
hmmm I think another thing is that I want to bring up that men who express themselves in a more feminine form is valid and there's no shame that comes with it (positive masculinity hell yaaaa). Also same about expressing characters who are also queer but aren't defined about it either. it's just what they are along with their other interests and goals.(edited)
sierrabravo (Hans Vogel is Dead)
wow, this is a great question! I'm trying to be better about interacting here so I'll give it a shot. My comic is a historical fantasy set somewhat in Interwar Europe/WWII Europe and partially in a fantasy world based on the Brothers Grimm fairy tales. -War stories/histories that aren't about the actual experience of combat: most memoirs and diaries of soldiers I read doing research are about the day-to-day activities, meals, sleeping habits, and random thoughts instead of fight descriptions. It really bothers me when people zero in on in-depth battle maps and obsess over what kind of rifle was used by whom when, when I think it's much more interesting and important to look at the mindset of who was fighting, why they were fighting, and what emotional effect it had on everyone involved (including civilians!) -Asexuality, especially asexuality in history, bc it tends to "disappear" in the historical record as people who may have been ace before that label was widely used tend to not self-identify as it. I'm ace, people in the past were ace, it's a history I'd like to talk about more! -gryphons, they're cool monsters and I think they should be used much more than they are haha
eliushi [a winged tale]
I agree sierrabravo. I find it’s the personal, down to earth, close perspective accounts in historical records that resonate the most with me. Gryphons are also awesome!
snuffysam (Super Galaxy Knights)
I feel like there's two separate answers for Super Galaxy Knights Deluxe R (http://sgkdr.webcomic.ws/comics/) The first is what SGKDR represents compared to other webcomics. To me, a major thing I wanted to show with Super Galaxy Knights was a new style of creating webcomics. Animation is underrepresented as a storytelling style, sure, but the main thing I thought was underrepresented in the webcomic space was a "seasonal" method of storytelling. Like, most webcomics I see are either "each page is its own thing" or "it's one big long story, with chapters mostly there to split up different scenes/locations". I very rarely see webcomics build to a major climax in the story, then a resolution, then introduce a brand new conflict. The second is what SGKDR represents compared to other action series (specifically shonen manga/anime, as that's what SGKDR riffs off of the most). I can only think of one shonen story with a female lead, I can't think of any with an explicitly LGBTQ+ protagonist (i only know of one implied one), romance is usually handled very poorly (characters usually get paired with the protagonist due to being female and in the same room, with very little actual relationship building), there aren't many varieties of character motivations besides "pursuit of power/status" of some kind, power scaling usually gets way out of whack, and I... I dunno, I love those kinds of stories, but it just gets tiring after a while. So, I wrote my own that had all the things I wanted in it.
Cronaj (Whispers of the Past)
@sierrabravo (Hans Vogel is Dead) I totally agree with the difficulty and importance of talking about ace representation in a historical setting! It's extremely difficult to talk about when asexuality was so unknown at the time. I'm eager to see how you handle it!
eliushi [a winged tale]
@snuffysam (Super Galaxy Knights) can you speak about
I very rarely see webcomics build to a major climax in the story, then a resolution, then introduce a brand new conflict.
I find slice of life/ some really long mangas with continuous streams of antagonists/web novel like formats use this too but unsure if that’s what you were referring to?
I am also looking forward to more ace representation in the webcomic world
snuffysam (Super Galaxy Knights)
Yeah that format is the sort of thing I was talking about. It's out there, but I don't see it very often.
eliushi [a winged tale]
Ah gotcha! Thanks! I recall some slice of life high school ones I’ve read years ago that have that sort of narrative structure (which feels like the story can continue forever).
Erin Ptah (BICP | Leif & Thorn)
There's a recurring trope in SF/F where the robot/AI/golem learns that it wants to have free will and make its own decisions. Or there's a biological species that are assumed to be "natural servants", and inevitably you get to the reveal that they're not actually any different from humans in terms of wanting self-determination and independence. If you think of this as a metaphor for relationships between different groups of humans, then yeah, that's the obvious outcome! But one of the great things about SFF is that you can write things that aren't just "direct metaphors for real-world issues, with spaceships and dragons thrown in for flavor." So in But I'm A Cat Person, I wanted to write something about, what if there's a group of beings who really aren't going to develop free will or self-determination? What's the reasonable, ethical way to deal with that? ...also: there's a ton of nonbinary characters in webcomics these days, but at least I can say BICP did it before it was cool.(edited)
Erin Ptah (BICP | Leif & Thorn)
Leif & Thorn, meanwhile, has a regular old "character forced into servitude, who definitely has independent thoughts and desires that are being controlled" situation. And there's no "Master has given Dobby a sock" loophole they can exploit for a quick fix, so they have to keep up a long-term process of double-talk and rule-bending, to communicate Leif's actual feelings without getting him in trouble. The "realistic language barriers with no convenient universal-translator to get around them" situation -- which, in this comic, is one of the biggest Underrepresented Things I wanted to explore -- makes it that much harder...
Capitania do Azar
I gotta commend you on that, @Erin Ptah (BICP | Leif & Thorn) because you're out there serving my bilingual needs
kayotics
Ingress Adventuring Company is all about the hero after they've finished saving the world, which I think is pretty underrepresented. It's not a quiet contemplative story, since there's still a lot of fun questing stuff going on, but I'm trying to make it clear that this all takes place after the main character has done his big saving the world quest and is still trying to figure out his place after supposedly settling down.
Eightfish (Puppeteer)
I love that Kay
Toivo feels like he has so much history behind him
sssfrs (JOE IS DEAD)
I'm trying to represent orthodox/religious jews because I almost never see my community represented in media. There are orthodox Jewish characters that will be appearing in Joe is dead. In future comics I want to try to plan the story more around including more religious Jewish characters because there still aren't that many in my current project
Also mental illnesses, like trauma and intellectual disability I want to represent my own experiences with it
There isn't as much of a distinct lack of that in media but it's good to have in stories(edited)
Also androgynous lesbians
Nutty (Court of Roses)
With Court of Roses, I'm trying to tell a fantasy story that's for older audiences but proving that Mature Fantasy doesn't have to be ultra gritty. People have each other to depend on, the world isn't bleak, and not every noble is greedy, peasant is starving, etc. I know a lot of fantasy likes to take from realistic Medieval Europe, but the freeing part about making my own world is that it doesn't HAVE to be like that. Their religion is different, more accepting, and again, people are more focused on looking out for each other and having a good time.
Mature themes are still present, such as murder, banditry/pillaging, alcohol, traumatic experiences, etc. but my goal isn't to present them in a darker fashion.(edited)
keii’ii (Heart of Keol)
I wanted to make something influenced by my culture (Korean) without heavily drawing from the mythology. Mythology is just one facet of a culture, yet a lot of people who haven't read it expect HoK to be all about Korean mythology just because it wears a metaphorical hanbok. No. It reflects the traditional aesthetics, but more importantly, the cultural values and the unspoken rules of the society, regardless of whether I agree with them or not. Related to that is body language. I don't want my non-American characters using American body language, such as shrugging, or American ways of using eye contact, etc. I want to show them using (mostly) Korean gestures, sitting, standing and walking like Koreans. I always feel like there's a huge missed opportunity when friggin' aliens use American body language in sci-fi! I understand why people do that -- it makes the work more clear/accessible to English-speaking audience. But in HoK I'm taking the other path. It's a challenge for sure, but I would not have it any other way.
On a more thematic level, I really wanted to explore deeply hurtful experiences that happen in genuinely caring relationships. It's not about good guys vs bad guys, it's not about a nice person being hurt by someone who just doesn't care. Those stories certainly are valid, just not what I wanted to do with HoK. This story is about people who love each other, but don't always know how to communicate their love or needs.
Joichi [Hybrid Dolls]
I am also looking forward to more ace representation in the webcomic world
@eliushi [a winged tale] I agree, the ace rep is a challenge I would like to take on, I'm also curious how it will work in historical times? Even tho I'm ace,I'm still learning new innovative things(edited)
eliushi [a winged tale]
It’ll be important to dig deeper and research into what things were like if you want to capture the authenticity of the period you’re writing in! I’m sure there are personal accounts or documentation of these lived experiences.
Capitania do Azar
I see all these beautiful answers and I almost struggle to find something other than those to say I guess for O Sarilho https://www.sarilho.net/en/ I wanted to write a weird love letter to where I live and how I see my country (tho I'm glad I got other places I love in it too). To my knowledge, we don't get much like that, or at least that's not from a city perspective which is not what I'm trying to go for, at all. There's a lot of tiny cultural things that I want to touch that may be invisible for people who are not from here, but I'm glad that I'm including them for those three readers in the back. Linked to this, in a way, is the fact that I get really tired of those white/gray Sci-fi stories where everything is super clean and super white and technology is absolutely overwhelming and organised. I want Sci-fis in the woods too. And finally, there's something about the way violence is portrayed a lot of times that almost makes you feel like human life just is that cheap. I really don't want to go that road, I'm doing my best to tell a story about war in which death still leaves a toll and violence affects everyone involved
TL;DR I WANTED TO PAINT MY HOUSE

@Capitania do Azar This is so beautiful (and tragic). This is something I also hope to express in my work. Super underrepresented message surprisingly.
eliushi [a winged tale]
I enjoy exploring sci-fi beyond the current conventions and absolutely love your setting shizamura!(edited)
Capitania do Azar
Thank u I really love Sci-fi but I don't appreciate that it has become associated with a very specific aesthetic because tbh I find it very limiting
DanitheCarutor
@Capitania do Azar That is actually really refreshing! Horror and action are so packed with glamorized death and violence, you can get really desensitized. The only stories I've ever seen that take those things seriously are war movies based on real life events, like Saving Private Ryan, (which my grandpa, a Korean War vet, said was the most accurate portrayal of what war was like.) and even then you get flicks that totally glamorize the whole thing. I really admire you wanting to put that sense of gravity onto the violence and death in your work, also I love when creators want to tackle war in all it's "too close to home", upsetting realism.
Capitania do Azar
I really love Saving Private Ryan, it is a very nice portrayal with a great message: nobody wants to be here
DanitheCarutor
Yes! I love Saving Private Ryan too, it was nice seeing a movie that didn't make war look like some fantastical bs.

My Official Unofficial Ranking of Supernatural Seasons That Nobody Asked For
This was...surprisingly easy. For someone who has a hard time picking favorites, I’m apparently quite eager to throw some seasons of one of my favorite shows under the bus.
My reasonings for this ranking are...all over the place. Since I’m considering seasons as a whole, I look mostly at the overall narrative structure, the prevalent themes, and the major character arcs. I won’t take individual/one-off episodes into much consideration...except for when I do. I won’t like some seasons/story arcs for any rationale between “this was sloppily executed,” “the message is misunderstood by viewers,” or even just that gif of Chris Evans “I don’t wike it.” I’m trying to look at seasons and storylines objectively, but I guarantee my Sam!girl bias will peek through at some point. Also, I reserve the right to change my mind at any point after I post this!
From bottom to top:
14 - Season 14
Ah, the twilight years of SPN. Now that we know this is the penultimate season, I’m a bit more lenient toward its shortcomings. Long running shows usually do stutter to a halt, story-wise. But still. I’m not taking it out of the bottom spot.
What was this season even about? Michael overtaking Dean? Nah, that barely lasted three whole episodes. Jack becoming evil? Not until the last six episodes. Team Free Will becoming a cohesive family unit? Lol. For a season that tried to set up Jack’s evil arc as a kid betraying his family, I hardly saw this “family” except in fanworks. The most heartfelt moments remained between Sam and Dean (not that I’m complaining about that—I loved those moments!) Was there an overarching theme besides “nobody is okay, especially Sam”? Season 14 is clumsy, unfocused, and does a poor job of telling the story it tried to tell. Even Mary’s second death reeked of “well, we didn’t know what to do with her and we needed a tragedy.” Oh yeah, and John was back for a hot minute.
13 - Season 9
Here’s one of these weird seasons. I like it, but I don’t. It’s well done, but it’s terrible. Also, I’m taking fan response into consideration on this one, since it colored my perception of it so negatively.
Season 9 could have been great. In a way, it was great. It was Dean’s dark arc—the part of Dean’s dark arc that I like. I’m not here to debate, just lay out the story. Dean stepped over a line. He tricked Sam into possession, lied to him for months, then refused to apologize afterward. He took the Mark of Cain as a penance, but it blew up in his face and turned him into something worse than he was before.
This is where fan response comes in. Fandom (from what I can tell; I wasn’t here back then) vilified Sam for setting boundaries with Dean, overwhelmingly siding with poor Dean who just didn’t want to be alone. The show, on paper, wasn’t trying to make the audience think this, but the POVs were skewed in such a way that we hardly got a chance to see Sam’s perspective and Sam’s trauma—so casual viewers didn’t really have a choice.
On a completely unrelated note (see, this is why this season is ranked so low) we have the angel storyline. What could’ve been a really cool and impactful story of celestial beings walking the earth, as well as Castiel exploring his new humanity in a way (that wasn’t just about sex) ended up a trite, dull affair about underdeveloped politics and characters I don’t care about. Did Metatron (the supposed big bad) even care about the Winchesters? I can’t remember. Only the actor’s indulgently entertaining performance saves that character. Even Castiel’s human arc was so short and ignored I sometimes forget it happened. This was a season that was so all over the place—good bones, bad execution.
12 - Season 12
This season is just...forgettable. Yet another season that was so all over the place—but unlike season 9, the story arcs did not culminate in a cool twist that pushed the SPN story to new heights. We had the BMOL, Mary’s return, and the Lucifer/Kelly/Dagon/nephilim story, and...honestly I can barely remember anything about them. The twisting story threads got interlocked at some points, like Mary working with the BMOL, and Sam and Dean working with them to take down Lucifer, but the threads were all wrapped up independently. To me, this suggests a lack of true investment in the stories and season arcs. Ultimately, Mary’s return was utterly wasted, the BMOL might as well have never existed, and the Lucifer storyline is a bloody, bloated carcass being dragged along behind the show by a fraying rope (called Buckleming) complete with a bad smell.
The reason I rank this season above season 9 is that I don’t shudder when I hear people talking about season 12. I don’t generally get angry when I think about it (except the way they did Crowley dirty) and it did give us Jack, the greatest fanon projection the show has ever given us. (I’ll elaborate on that in a minute)
11 - Season 10
This is the season in which I don’t like Dean’s dark arc. By that I mean...it wasn’t much of a dark arc. Instead of exploring Dean’s inner darkness and the choices that led him to take the MoC, we get a meandering season of (pretty enjoyable) one-offs. We are repeatedly told Dean can’t fight off what he truly is—except we’re also being told that Dean can’t truly control what the MoC is doing to him, meaning the MoC isn’t what he truly is. It’s a mixed message, and it ends up being too many episodes in a row of Dean staring moodily at his arm while he drinks. Sorry, an ancient tribal tattoo does not a compelling big bad make.
Speaking of bad guys, though, season 10 gave us Rowena! And more Crowley material! And the Stynes—wait, no. We don’t talk about...whatever they were.
I do like Sam’s determination to save Dean, and I even like the underhanded methods he used to get the MoC off. Charlie’s death was a horrifying shock, but it actually fed the story very well. And I know I said I wasn’t going to talk about individual episodes, but Soul Survivor and Fan Fiction are both epic.
10 - Season 8
...this season. This season is such a mixed bag you could almost rank it as two separate seasons! ;) This was Jeremy Carver’s first season as showrunner—and while I like what he ended up doing, I hated the way he played with the brother dynamics throughout the season, especially the first half. Season 8 starts out disjointed, very unconnected from the previous season. The story thread of “Sam didn’t look for Dean” is overplayed and very tired. Also a bit of a reach, considering the season 5 finale. My point is, Sam and Dean both act like pod people for the first part of this season. Dean is mad at Sam for...doing exactly what Dean himself did a few years ago (fandom misses the nuance of Dean’s hypocrisy and jumps right in the blame-Sam boat with him) and Sam is suddenly...living with a strange woman we barely get to meet and okay with not hunting anymore?
This is another example of the skewed POVs hurting the show’s message. We don’t get to see Sam’s grief the same way we saw Dean’s struggle in purgatory, and since Sam’s Amelia arc makes very little sense anyway, we’re forced to imagine it—and this is a disservice to both Sam and the overarching story.
However, the saving grace of season 8 is the second half. We get the bunker, the Trials storyline, which is a whump goldmine for my Sam-loving heart, and one of the best season finales this show has ever produced. I mean...they got married. In a CHURCH! I’m not really a wincester, but seriously how do you not ship it just a little when the show gives you stuff like THAT?!
*deep breath* I’m good. Moving on!
9 - Season 13
I...have a soft spot for this season. Anybody who follows me on here can probably guess why. That’s right, it’s Jack, the greatest fanon projection the show has ever gifted us.
Let me explain. The narrative structure of the season is a mess. The exploratory theme of Sam and Dean as parents is derailed by the fact that Sam and Dean spend less than six episodes with their surrogate child and spend the rest of the season spinning their wheels until it’s time for the finale. Lucifer as a villain doesn’t give a crap about the protagonists, which makes him a really boring and terrible antagonist—to say nothing of the fact that two of the writers try to make him sympathetic and end up assassinating the character harder than Michael!Dean did. I only found Scoobynatural mildly entertaining. As for Asmodeus...who’s that?
Basically, the only shining light in this season besides the brothers is Jack. And we don’t even get a consistent characterization of him. He’s essentially a blank slate, which means we as fans and fanwork creators get to make him whatever we want. While he’s supposedly the Winchesters’ kid in canon, it’s rarely shown—that falls on us as fans to make a reality. And boy do we make it reality! This is where I found my corner of fandom, and that’s why this mess of a season ranks relatively high for me. Still in the bottom half, but it gave me one of the greatest gifts the show has ever given.
8 - Season 7
I shouldn’t have to defend myself, but while most of the fandom harbors a little black spot of hatred for this season...I don’t. Like, at all.
I don’t agree with all the creative choices of this season—the Leviathans were an out-of-nowhere big bad with no connection to the Winchesters. However, the guy who played Dick Roman did a fantastic job hamming it up. And I love how all the pieces came together in the end—Sam and Dean, Cas, Crowley, even Meg as a surprise reluctant hero. We also got Charlie! And Kevin! Bobby got a fantastic arc, both before he died and from beyond the grave. And Crowley, even though he helped win the day, also rigged the game so he took all the pieces left on the board. Mad respect for my king.
Also, as a stalwart fan of Sam whump, Sam’s hallucination storyline was all kinds of awesome. (Except for how it abruptly ended and was never spoken of again)
I know objectively this season isn’t very good, but I still find myself rewatching it a surprising amount. I have a soft spot for Sera’s storytelling, and she did not have complete control over the creative decisions for this year. Season 7 only barely misses out of the top half.
7 - Season 3
This season is great, it really is. I think the main reason I rank it so low is because of the shortened season—Sam’s aborted arc. And that was obviously out of everyone’s control; the creators had to just pick up the pieces and make do with what circumstances gave them.
Basically, I don’t have anything bad to say about this season. It’s a brother-lovefest, it gives us Bela and Ruby, and yes we get some truly great one-off eps. Bad Day at Black Rock, A Very Supernatural Christmas, Mystery Spot, Jus in Bello, and Ghostfacers are among my favorite episodes to rewatch. I just mainly miss the end of Sam’s arc. Although I do appreciate the writers’ strike giving us Castiel instead, I still wish we could’ve gotten to see boyking!Sam save his brother.
6 - Season 2
While on the surface season 2 is barely different than season 1, it also gives us loads of gamechangers. It’s the coming-of-age season—Sam and Dean aren’t kids anymore; in fact, they aren’t anyone’s kids. The season bookends of John’s death and Sam’s death make a horrible tragedy that I don’t even care much what’s in the middle.
But then again, everything in between is so good. There’s not much of an overarching story, just a sense of dread and desperation as...something...draws near. (We don’t even know what it is, but it still scares us! It’s masterful!) The tone is consistent and effective, the brother dynamics are still balanced enough to fully enjoy, and of course...there’s Playthings. :)
(Y’all are gonna stop believing me when I say I’m not a wincester, I can feel it. What can I say, I have incestuous shipping tendencies.)
5 - Season 11
This is a season that I could tear limb from limb for falling so flat in the end, but...somehow I can’t bring myself to. I didn't find myself into the Amara storyline too much, mainly because the God/Darkness sibling dynamic wasn’t developed enough to parallel with Sam and Dean invest in. But this season does an awesome job of healing the brother dynamics. While seasons 8, 9, and 10 were fight-heavy, Sam and Dean spend this season in relative peace. In times of potential crisis, they band together instead of fracturing apart. And that, honestly, is enough for me to forgive...well, a lot, plotwise. The Dean/Amara connection that went nowhere, the Casifer storyline that went nowhere, the Darkness’s grudge against her brother that...went nowhere...and I’m not even going to touch on the Sam/Lucifer dynamic that started out SO GOOD and then...well...
Again, I’m not going to touch on it. I love this season despite its flaws.
4 - Season 1
Here it is. The season that started it all. I said I was going to consider mostly narrative structures for this ranking, yet here season 1 is without much of a narrative structure, fourth from the top.
The first season of a show is always the feel-around-in-the-dark season. This is where we learn the rules of the show, how the world works, and most importantly, who our characters are. We spend 22 episodes with the writers and actors just...figuring out who Sam and Dean are, most especially who they are to each other. They were so successful in this that they spawned a fifteen year phenomenon centered around this fraternal love story. As an additional plus, since the characters were so new, season 1 gives us the most balanced POV between the brothers. We get to feel for both of them without being pitted against each other, and I appreciate that more than words.
The horror is old-school, the storytelling can be a bit cliche, but every show has an origin story and I’m in love with this one.
3 - Season 6
Again, I love Sera Gamble’s storytelling. It’s most evidenced here in her first year of showrunning. This season had the astronomical task of following up season 5. How do you follow up the literal apocalypse?
...Astoundingly well. To me at least.
This season’s narrative structure is my favorite. It’s kind of a noir thriller, with more twists and turns than Supernatural usually gets. In fact, having now watched Vampire Diaries and The Originals, season 6 of SPN kind of echoes those shows. (I don’t think it’s coincidence that TVD aired its first season one year prior to this)
Instead of trying to outdo the literal devil (the mistake of latter seasons) we spend most of season 6 not knowing who the big bad is. We meet a few baddies, get backstabbed by former friends, and we’re told Raphael is a threat, but in the end the big bad was the friend we made along the way—Castiel. It’s depressing, it’s not what we expected, and it’s honestly a departure from “traditional” SPN. But I like it. I like it a lot. If Sera had been allowed to do more seasons like this, she probably would’ve stayed longer.
2 - Season 4
I love a lot of things about this season. The way they handled the angels was great—the right way to do unknowably powerful beings. I like Sam’s dark arc. It’s coupled perfectly with his good intentions and his all-consuming love for his brother. The plot twist at the end is perfect—Sam, in doing the right thing, unleashes the worst evil this world has (yet) known.
The tone is also perfect. It’s dark. A little edgier. Edging toward eldritch horror rather than ghost horror. Balanced out with light episodes that pack a hard punch in the feels regardless. And this is a little thing, but the color grading shifts back to more sepia after the technicolor of season 3. It gives us this little sense of dread throughout the season without even knowing why.
I could complain about the skewed POVs, about how fandom still sometimes crows “Dean was right about Lilith!” when all Dean opposed was Ruby and the demon blood—he wanted killed Lilith too. But as this instance of POV-warp serves the storyline in a good, necessary way, and Sam truly did need to be brought back from his dark path, I’m choosing to ignore it.
1 - Season 5
Are we surprised? Maybe some Sam fans are—I know some who get vexed about the blame for the apocalypse being solely and constantly placed on Sam...but I’m not. The overall story of season 5 is just so good. Lucifer is a good villain in this season. Sam and Dean have an excellent healing arc. The angels are good villains, also ironic mouthpieces of the overarching themes—despite touting “fate” and “unavoidable,” they are champions of free will, since they do whatever they want in their father’s absence. Zachariah most notably. Castiel was utilized in a good way (whereas now he struggles to still have purpose in the show) Bobby and Crowley both were good in this season (and also sparked a rarepair that’s—hilariously—canon) and this season did not pull any punches when it came to death. Even the main protagonists were shot point-blank halfway through the season! (Don’t talk to me about the samulet, I can’t do it without bawling)
And Swan Song remains my favorite season finale and overall episode. Dean relinquishing control of his little brother, allowing him to make the ultimate sacrifice for the sake of the world. I still halfway wish the series ended with Sam and Dean both throwing themselves into the Cage, destroying themselves for the world, out of love for each other. (insert “poetic cinema” meme)
And there we have it! To my mutuals, I’d love to hear your thoughts or your rankings. And to @letsgobethegoodguys - Steph, since this was so hard for you, I did it myself so I could feel your pain. 😘

that post i promise is here
and it’s long
imo you can see moffat's failings even in the episodes he's hailed for. like okay so one of the things is that in empty child everybody lives, but the everybody lives thing gets twisted as the show continued under him because... well... he's the doctor! everybody lives!
EVERYBODY.
LIVES.
EVERY. BODY.
THE time lords? his entire race dead to separate it from the original show in a definable story driven way that elaborates on an aspect that the doctor always had? terrible decisions he's had to make for the sake of good, even though he dislikes making horrible decisions that kill people????????????????????????? WHICH MAKES THE DECISION REALLY BAD???????????????????????????????????? AND DIFFICULT?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
fuck that shit the doctor is awesome! everybody lives!
"JUST THIS ONCE?"
HOW ABOUT JUST THIS EVERY SINGLE FUCKING TIME EVEN IN RETROSPECT BECAUSE FUCK YOU. I WANT THE DOCTOR TO BE AN INFALLIBLE MESSIANIC PIECE OF SHITTY WRITING but not in like an interesting but flawed way that RTD always tried to do even if he didn't always succeed but at least messianic bullshit was presented as a FUCKING FLAW and not just another DOCTOR IS AWESOME HIS FLAW IS JUST THAT HE IS TOO AWESOME ALL THE TIME
LIKE okay so I've seen that post going around that's like HAHA LOL NUWHO FANS DON'T KNOW THAT THE DOCTOR WAS ALWAYS MORALLY AMBIGUOUS BECAUSE IN THE FIRST EPISODE HE NEARLY KILLED THAT ONE GUY WITH A ROCK BECA-FUUUUUUCCCCKKKKKK OFFFF
that scene is so poorly indicative of what the doctor's character would become that it's been post-explained TWICE in TWO DIFFERENT FORMATS OF THE SHOW. YES the doctor can be morally ambiguous YES he has done horrible things and HE WILL GO ON TO DO HORRIBLE THINGS EVEN IN CLASSIC!WHO - but that is typically, for the rest of the show's existence, brought up as a THING HE'S GOTTA DEAL WITH, not some bullshit as "but he knows best" fuckery. the way that the Eight Doctors deals with it isn't half bad, actually, considering he basically confronts his younger self as a cocky "i know best" kind of idiot who hasn't had the 7 lifetimes to understand that it's not the right thing to do (especially when by now we understand that he's been living on an entire planet of "snarf snarf we're the best and lower lifeforms are primitive and pointless" assholes)
this argument also bothered me because OF COURSE nu!who fans would think this! there are lines all over the series indicating how awesomely badass the doctor is, how wonderful, how amazing, how just so fantastically remarkably brilliant and good he is to the point that MOFFAT RETROACTIVELY REWROTE THE FOUNDATION OF THE REBIRTH OF DOCTOR WHO ON THE SIMPLE INSISTENCE THAT THE DOCTOR WOULD NOT DO A BAD THING. of COURSE there are people confused about the mixed messages the show is giving them! is he an infallibly good awesome messiah? IS he MAYBE perhaps SOMETIMES BAD? oh, let me just HINT AT THAT A FEW TIMES but OVERALL NAH! HE GOOD! good is always a real, quantifiable thing that you are, and difficult decisions are... never difficult! because there's always a good one!
moffat's ALWAYS been like this! even in empty child i will argue! even in blink!
blink and empty child are often bandied about imo as "when moffat was good" and the video makes a point about how moffat is good in small doses, but empty child and blink are recycled so constantly that you realize that moffat's shit stank from the beginning much in the way that s4 sherlock reflects how sherlock has always been shit. empty child's premise worked because it was out of context with moffat's overall writing - how everyone ALWAYS lives, how women are ALWAYS WRITTEN through his perspective.
blink is so caught up in its obsession in being a cool thing for cool people that it shits on its own premise eventually. that becomes more clear when moffat brings it back constantly. but it's still pretty evident in that episode alone
"you can't look away from the angels because that's when they move"
"well we've figured it out! so we'll keep an eye on them now!!!!"
"well you can't because they can turn lights off for no reason!"
"what? why?"
"because FUCK YOU IS WHY also there would be no tension going into this final scene if i didn't make some bullshit up to make your solution pointless but anyway let me also ruin this two seasons from now by letting you see US MOVE"
blink's premise is fucked just mildly enough that we can ignore it and then because moffat has been squeezed of what creative juice he had left and then fucked it up some more, but more flashily! with budget! and guns!
god and his stupid fucking "crying is happy for sad people" just fuck entirely off moffat, yes? keep the preteen "i'm sad because i'm emotional and deep" shit to your 40 year old journal you keep up to date on how misunderstood and genius you are.
i haven't even gotten to the fact that sherlock isn't even sad or validated when moriarty dies. he isn't like well that fuckhead who was fucking with me is dead but at least crime is over. the video doesn't even go into a core aspect of sherlock holmes which is that he solves crimes because he wants crimes solved. that he maybe solves this stuff in particular because he cares about people and dislikes bad things because he’s a person, even if he does morally ambiguous things for the sake of a mystery. one of holmes’ enduring traits is supposed to be THAT HE GIVES A SHIT ABOUT PEOPLE. that he wants murder to have justice, that he wants a thief to be caught, and if he didn’t want those fucking things he wouldn’t solve crimes, he’d be fuckin mycroft. THAT’S BASICALLY LITERALLY THE WHOLE FUCKING POINT OF MYCROFT AS A CHARACTER, TO SHOW WHAT SHERLOCK WOULD BE IF HE WAS AN MISANTHROPIC PIECE OF INCONSIDERATE SHIT, holing himself up in an intellectual elite club full of uncaring shits who work in underground politics i mean i know that gets sort of elaborated on later on but CHRIST sherlock!sherlock would fit right fucking in at diogenes, except it wouldn’t be silent because he’d constantly need people to tell him how fucking smart he is all the fucking time
i'm so sick of this character on a fundamental level because moffat isn't the only one who does this - yes he's the one who has unfortunately laid waste to my current enjoyment of two of my favorite stories - and for those of you who counter often with "well you don't have to watch it" - you're right. I don't. and i've honestly never given Sherlock the time of day past its bullshit Orientalist episode, but as a fan of Holmes it is literally impossible to say that name without people pouncing in with how awesome Sherlock is. it's impossible to talk about Doctor Who without someone talking about the more recent season. DO YOU SEE? DO YOU SEE HOW UNAVOIDABLE.
Moffat as a writer has always capitalized on a particular archetype, the misanthropic genius. the misanthropy can be on a scale, but the genius part is paramount. the misanthropy adds a mystery to the character - because he doesn't LIKE people, his inner machinations lay undetect, but this can be done through various means. sometimes it's just done through being so sheer genius that they cannot be understood, like sherlock-archetypes almost always are, or they're so WACKY that they cannot be understood. whatever the case is, they're sometimes unlikeable, and are paired with people who don't UNDERSTAND them, but *understand* that they are so brilliant that they cannot be understood and therefore put up with whatever shit bullshittery they might be going through. (usually they're queerbaited because that character tends to be male)
here are some examples i can think off the top of my head: kingkiller chronicles, big bang theory, pure genius, dirk gently as written by douchebag mcfuckface Max Landis, frankenstein as written by douchebag mcfuckface Max Landis, most main male characters in stuff written by douchebag mcfuckface Max Landis, stargate atlantis (shared by mckay and shepard), basically every single adaptation of Holmes that didn't understand the fucking point (including house), arguably Elementary too tho that's actually dealt with in the show as a real tangible character flaw, Ender's Game, honestly as much as I love LeGuin - Wizard at Earthsea, and Catcher in the Rye to be honest, and... and... god what was that show about the guy who takes a FUCKING PILL TO BE SMART? (looked it up: Limitless), Will in Hannibal, APB WHATEVER THE FUCK THAT WAS?, HONESTLY JAKE FROM BROOKLYN 99 ALSO TOES THE LINE FOR ME especially in the early seasons but Jake is a NICE. BOY. AND christ the list goes ON and it NEVER ENDS WE ARE STILL WRITING THIS STUPID FUCKING CHARACTER.
this. shitty. character. a deep, philosophical, genius so beyond our normal human being's conception that they don't have to be nice to be liked. they just have to be smart. beyond smart. amazingly, stunningly, inconceivably smart. so smart that even their bad thing is a good thing. even their bad decisions turn out to be good ones, and their flaw is some manufactured bullshit like drugs! (House) or unfairly poor! (Kingkiller) or possibly autistic! (bbt). none of these aren't real, actual that real people have to deal with, of course, but they're USED in these cases to artificially insert a character "flaw." (and being an addict or poor or autistic isn't a fucking flaw! fucking stop it!!!!) the ultimate male wish-fulfillment character. don't require physical attractiveness or humor or charm or kindness or money. just smarts. then the women will love you!
this character has been around for so fucking long in media i feel like we've been tricked into thinking it's a good character. it's in so many well known classic things because shitheads like moffat and joss whedon and max landis and patrick rothfuss have been around forever, perpetuating their own bullshit since forever and i'm fucking sick of it. it's the writing equivalent of a white guy with acoustic guitar. a lazy, self-serving piece of writing that only serves to help the writer put his head up his own ass in an attempt to outwit himself with the most uninteresting archetype that exists. this is worse to me than the DREADED Mary Sue, because Mary Sues don't tend to be FUCKING ASSHOLES that people LOVE ANYWAY. They're just blank slates for people and that's FINE. everyone needs that at some point in their life! DO WE NEED MORE WHITE GUYS BEING AMAZING GENIUSES BUT WACKY ASSHOLES BUT SO GENIUS THAT EVERYONE LOVES THEM???? DO WE? DO WE NEED TO PERPETUATE THIS EXHAUSTING PERCEPTION THAT BEING RIGHT IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN BEING KIND????????

Text Messages and Internet Forums
Today on Everyday Grammar, we will explore two relatively new methods of communicating: text messages and internet forums. We will talk about two common expressions you might see: lol* and I know, right? These expressions carry much more meaning than you might expect, as we will see. Definitions and grammar We start with the term lol. Lol is short for “laughing out loud,” as in “I am laughing out loud.” The subject, I, and the BE verb, am, have been left out. Basically, lol expresses a person’s opinion about something. You might think that is the end of the story, but it is not. The term lol has a much richer meaning than what we just told you. We will talk more about it later. Our second term, I know, right?, seems like a simple statement. The words I know are the subject and verb. The word right? is a kind of tag question – a word that is connected to the expression. But I know, right?, like lol, has a much more interesting story than you might expect. Important use in communication John McWhorter is an expert on languages. In the book Words on the Move, he notes that lol serves an important purpose in written communication: “easing.” By easing, McWhorter means actions that people do to show they are feeling at ease or trying to be nice. For example, in real life, people often laugh or smile. They do this to show they are at ease and that the situation is not too serious. Lol, McWhorter says, serves that same purpose in written communication. English speakers use lol at the beginning, middle or end of a sentence. In many cases, they use lol to soften language or bad news. Here is an example. A person borrowed a friend’s car to run a brief errand. The borrower wrote the friend the following text message: Lol your car started to overheat just as I pulled into the driveway. In this case, the person writing the text “eases” the news of the car overheating by starting the sentence with lol. The writer also could have written the statement with lol at the end of the sentence, as in: Your car started to overheat just as I pulled into the driveway lol A person might use lol in the middle of a statement as in: Bad news lol your car started to overheat! In any case, the basic idea is that lol helps make language gentler. It means far more than “laughing out loud.” In fact, it does not really relate to laughing at all. “Anyone who used LOL to signal actual laughter would now be misunderstood: it would be, quite simply, a mistake,” McWhorter writes. In writing, other acronyms have taken the place of lol to show actual laughter. Agreement Our second expression today, I know, right?, is like lol. It also serves the purpose of “easing.”   But, as McWhorter notes, the words I know, right? show agreement in an indirect way. Instead of writing “I agree” or “I know” many times on internet forums or texts, many people use I know, right? It has a casual, pleasant sound. It is a nice way to agree with someone. So, you might see something like the following exchange on an internet discussion board: Wow! That cat looks like Simba from the Lion King! I know, right? It’s incredible! Imagine a change in the wording, as in: Wow! That cat looks like Simba from the Lion King! I know. Such a statement is more abrupt, and far less conversational. The exchange between the two writers probably would not continue for much longer! Closing thoughts The point of our report today was to show you how English speakers use some terms or expressions that have more meaning than you might expect. Understanding details like these will help you when you communicate or read in casual situations. And some of the details we talked about – the placement of lol for example - are true of other kinds of words in English. Adverbs are one example. The next time you read internet forums or send text messages, try to find other examples of words or expressions that native speakers use. We will be back next week with another Everyday Grammar! Lol that was a long report. I know, right? But hopefully it was fun and helpful for the listeners. I’m John Russell. And I’m Alice Bryant.   John Russell wrote this story for VOA Learning English. George Grow was the editor. * You might see lol spelled in lower or upper case letters, or a mix of the two i.e. lol, LOL, Lol _________________________________________________________________ Words in This Story   errand – n. a short trip that you take to do or get something acronym – n. a word formed from the first letters of each one of the words in a term casual – adj. unstructured or unofficial; everyday incredible – adj. unbelievable; unimaginable abrupt – adj. talking to other people in a very brief and unfriendly way conversational – adj. relating to or suggesting informal talk; relating to or suggesting a discussion adverb – a word that changes the meaning of a verb We want to hear from you.
