I hope everyone remembers this post I made some 2 weeks ago, because a couple of Jordanians and Palestinians certainly do!
For the intelligent person, its common knowledge that the Gaza ""influencers"" or rather, the ""independent journalists"" as they like to call themselves now, are filthy rich. Be it Moataz with his incredibly thicc instagram history showcasing his expensive cameras, jewelry and trips abroad at the ripe age of 15, while allegedly living in one of the worst ghettos in Gaza (dir al balah). Or maybe Plestia, with her instagram history showing her studying at luxurious private highschool and unis around the middle east, u know, like an ordinary Gazan. Bisan is really no different, with a robust online presence between her instagram and facebook, showing that she too studied in luxurious unis, traveled the world and even traveled throughout Israel, which is only possible for her if she has another, foreign passport, and that alone is a strong indication that shes rich and comes from an ImportantTM family (not only the fact that she has a foreign passport, but the fact she was allowed entry to Israel to begin with). Bisan also had a private company of her own, which again, in Gaza, is only possible with the Correct Connections, wink.
Well, the turntables are finally table-ing and, as fate would have it, a couple of interesting screenshots were brought forward by both Palestinian and Jordanian influencers. Apologies in advance for the dogshit quality, here is the source for most of the screenshots (others will be provided along with the screenshot).
The following are excerpts from conversations with other ""independent journalists"" (not bisan, minus the 'old clothes' part, thats her), some u may recognize by the pfp :^)
Tumblr wont let me post a good quality translation image so Im breaking it down, but yall r welcome to save the pics off of Tamers og post and translate em yourselves via google.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
After shit hit the fan, Bisan deleted the link to that GFM page from her ARABIC account (not from her ENGLISH audience acc because she knows the westoids are retarded) and blocked Tamer when confronted about the whereabouts of the donations money:
Tumblr media
The results of this unearthed some more information proving that Bisan et al are actively lying about what is happening in Gaza to seduce westoids into giving her money. Exhibit A:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Intelligent people already knew she was lying and propagandizing back in December, and it was a big deal in Jordanian circles in Twitter, that took it very personally.
As for other ""independent journalists""" some Gazans are wising up. Do'a is actually dropping some mad truth bombs here:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some Gazans remain unconvinced:
Tumblr media
This whole thing is still pretty fresh, but Im sure the more time passes the more new interesting things are going to come up about her. My prophecy is that shes gonna leave Gaza pretty soon and cash out at half a millie because its gonna get way 2dangerous for her now that the Poor People she promised to help around her know.
I think this user summed it up pretty well:
Tumblr media
Should we look into the lady who organized Bisans GFM from Norway? just for the lolz? :^)

Hi, I usually only send asks to people on anon, but I really wanted to say that I am so sorry this fandom has been so awful to you and made what should have been a fun and cool thing such a negative experience. I will be sad not to see the rest of the scripts, but I hope stopping the posts gives you some peace 💙
thanks for the kind words, honestly i need them right now. after some consideration, i've come to make a decision on how i want to operate moving forward.
as of now i've permanently deleted my scheduled posts on twitter, i won't be posting anything there anymore.
for tumblr, i removed everything from my queue and they're sitting in my drafts, but i may just post the excerpts i like this weekend.
on the whole, i'm taking a big step back from this fandom. i've met a lot of nice people here and made friends, but the loud voices of some of the worst people here just make this an overall unenjoyable experience. for my own mental health, i think it's important to simply cut off the opportunity for people to engage with me directly.
to give some clarity, this is not just about people doubting my posts. i find those to be funny since i have never made it a secret where i get my scripts from, people just seem to be unwilling to read or do research. i actually do have one single image of a script on my phone that the librarian okayed me to photograph. but i forgot about it while making edits and now i simply don't want to post it. (i thought i didn't copy down daemon asking for rhaenyra's hand in episode 4, apparently, i was wrong and just forgot about the picture.)
this is about people calling me awful names, accusing me of pedophilia, because that's everyone's favorite word to use in this fandom, and insulting my friends when i won't respond to them.
it's about people who seem to think i deserve harassment because i put myself out there. it's about people who think i'm just too engaged and need to be more "zen" about fandom and the insults being hurled my way. it's about people who feel entitled to my posts and regularly demand greedily that i post about their favorite character already.
it's also about people cozying up to me one minute and then calling me names the next. it makes it really hard to trust anyone in this fandom, much less want to befriend them. i shouldn't have to get used to people suddenly popping up in my dms trying to befriend me after finding out that i could be a "source" for them, but i did and that's on me.
i said before that if i stopped this project i would expose everyone who was an asshole to me. the hilarious fact is that it would literally be too many screenshots of people acting like the worst type of people. all the things i listed above are from multiple people across multiple platforms. it's not just twitter, or tumblr, or discord, or reddit. it's the fact that these people exist literally in every corner of this fandom that makes me want to pull back completely.
i'll keep contributing in the areas where i enjoy contributing, but i'm done engaging with people who seem to view me as entertainment or a punching bag.
to people who have defended me without knowing me, or have simply just been polite, thanks so much. it really does help even if i don't reply to every kind word.

actual guide for new tumblr users, from Twitter or otherwise
yeah so I decided to do one of these. I'm just someone who has been here since 2007 and wants to help people who are new to the site and have no idea what's happening. Twitter seems to be in its death throes as I write this, and while the posts about driving down the property values are funny, I'd like to actually try and help out.
many people have made posts that are like "get an icon and post something or else people will think you're a bot" so I'll just assume you've seen one of those already. I want to focus more on the things you need to know to acclimate to tumblr culture. so:
general tips:
like things if you want to like things. people will tell you liking doesn't do anything, that only reblogs do stuff, but that's not quite true. only reblogs will get the people who follow you to see it on their dashboard (circulating the post further through the tumblr ecosystem), but likes will let the OP know you liked it, let the person who reblogged it onto your dash know you liked it, and probably do something complicated involving the "based on your likes" algorithm but I really don't know how that works. also, the like will stick around, so if you see the post reblogged from someone else much later, your little heart will still be highlighted in red.
you can control a lot about what you see on your dashboard from the settings page! on desktop, go into settings - account and settings - dashboard to change things. most people turn off "best stuff first" and just use the chronological feed, but you do you, new user. I personally hate endless scroll, so I turned that off, but I love timestamps, so I turned those on. for bonus fun, go into settings - labs and there are extra tabs you can add to your dash.
but what about turning off anonymous asks? on desktop, this setting, weirdly, is in the "Edit appearance" page for your blog. you can also turn replies off there, allow only people you follow to message you, and hide your blog from search results. there are a lot of random settings in there, so make sure to take a look. (app results may vary.)
you might notice that one of the settings is for filtered tags and filtered post content. this is why it's important not to censor things here that might be triggering for some folks - because someone out there has "rape" filtered, and if you go around saying "r*pe," that's not going to be caught in their filter. also, at this time there are no word police who will come after you for saying "kill" or "die," so you don't need to use euphemisms like "unalive" on tumblr. you can also swear as much as you want.
blaze: tumblr blaze is a relatively new feature where you can pay actual money to have your post forced onto random people's dashboards. beware, if you use this for something people don't want to see, you will get mocked. if you use it to show everyone your cat, you're probably fine.
there are two basic uses for #tags: organizational (putting your post into a category, like tagging it with the name of the fandom it's relevant to) and editorial (adding extra commentary that you don't want to add in the post itself). a lot of people will use both, a lot of people will use neither. when people like your editorial tags enough, they'll copy or screenshot them and add them to the body of the post. this is known as "passing peer review" and is a compliment.
memes and inside jokes You Should Know:
do you love the colour of the sky? is an extremely long image post (showing all the colors a sky could possibly be) that takes a long time to scroll past, and back in the olden days (2012) it was ubiquitous on tumblr. these days you can shorten long posts automatically using your dashboard settings (see above), or use the "j" keyboard shortcut to go directly to the next post if you're on desktop, but we still remember it fondly and refer to it constantly because nothing dies here, especially not memes.
the color theory children's hospital post is another one of those things you'll see a million references to if you're on here for any length of time.
you cannot kill me in a way that matters is a post that you might have seen in screenshots elsewhere online, but it started here! other memes that originated on tumblr: spiders georg, me an intellectual, graphic design is my passion, etc.
blorbo from my shows is a phrase used to refer to your latest favorite character. it started as a joke, but tumblr has a way of taking jokes and making them a thing, so now it's a thing. see also poor little meow meow.
tumblr holidays: anything people on tumblr can make into a holiday or anniversary, we will. most of them you'll see as they happen, and they're often self-explanatory, but you should probably read up on November 5 2020 if you don't know about it already.
horse plinko: tumblr loves this one for some reason.
I like your shoelaces / thanks, I stole them from the president: this was supposedly the "secret code" to identify a tumblr user in real life. (you can buy shoelaces directly from tumblr now, but that's a recent development.)
then perish: speaking of the president, if you see Obama's eyes with a very orange tint, this is the meme it's referencing.
ball-shaving ads: ads from the personal grooming company Manscaped were/are(?) ubiquitous on tumblr, to the point that some have theorized that tumblr was deliberately saturating people's dash with the ads so that they'd be more likely to pay for ad-free browsing. and one of the ads for ad-free reads "shave off ads from your dashboard," so like, they might be onto something.
world heritage posts: there are various tumblrs that compile the best of tumblr, anything that's particularly iconic or has become a meme. there are even heritage post blogs for specific fandoms.
tumblr history:
there are three basic eras of tumblr history:
classic tumblr era 2007-2013: David Karp started tumblr in 2007, and it grew in popularity and weirdness for many years. porn was allowed: the original tumblr adult content policy read "sure, go nuts, show nuts, whatever."
Yahoo/Verizon era 2013-2019: Yahoo famously bought tumblr in 2013 for $1 billion. ads started showing up on tumblr in 2012, so this is also around when tumblr started to monetize. Yahoo was eventually bought by Verizon, and in December 2018, they announced they were banning porn, which sucked. everyone predicted the death of tumblr, but it limped on, with about a 30% decrease in traffic. (source for that statistic)
Automattic era 2019-present: in 2019, Automattic bought tumblr from Yahoo for like $3 million or something. Automattic owns WordPress, and they seem to understand tumblr's userbase better than the Yahoo folks did. they've recently instituted a more nuanced adult content policy, but because of Apple's strict policy for what gets included in the App Store, credit card processors refusing to process payments for porn, and other restrictions, tumblr can't go back to being the porn-allowed free-for-all it once was. see this post for a full explanation of why.
various April Fool's jokes have included Coppy (2015), Mishapocalypse (2013), and most recently, the button that makes crabs. expect April 1st to be extra chaotic on tumblr.
Tumbeasts - the tumblr version of the Twitter Fail Whale, designed by Matthew Inman of the Oatmeal. not sure if they're extinct now, or if the site just doesn't go down like it used to.
Dashcon - tumblr tried to have a convention once. it didn't go well. the photo with the sad ball pit is used as shorthand to reference the disaster that was Dashcon.
SuperWhoLock is a name for the fandom crossover between Supernatural, Doctor Who, and Sherlock, which were all juggernauts on tumblr at one time. the fandom supposedly "died off" after 2014, but see above re: nothing dies here.
female presenting nipples - when tumblr introduced the Porn Ban in 2018, they used this phrase in the community guidelines. they've since updated their nudity policy, but the phrase will live forever, because come on, tumblr is a website full of queer and/or trans folks. if you think you're getting away with a weasel phrase like "female presenting nipples" without being mocked all over the website, you're extremely wrong.
John Green: an author who used to be on tumblr, back when you could edit someone else's tumblr post when you reblogged it. his text posts were regularly edited to make it look like he had said things he didn't. someone edited one of his posts to be about how much he loves a certain sex act, which was probably not THE reason they removed the ability to edit others' posts, but like, it didn't help. John Green was eventually harassed so much he left tumblr. opinions are divided on whether this was hilarious or sad. (something I discovered while researching for this post: the author of the Your Fave Is Problematic tumblr [which was part of the wave of anti-John Green content] wrote a confessional New York Times article in 2021. pull quote: "I just wanted to see someone face consequences; no one who'd hurt me ever had.")
XKit: used to be THE browser extension for tumblr. it was made by "the xkit guy," who seems to have been harassed off the site in 2015. the extension was replaced by New XKit, which worked for a while. these days a lot of XKit's features have been either rendered obsolete by tumblr adding them to its settings, or broken by tumblr interface updates, and the new hotness is XKit Rewritten. want to block a specific post from ever appearing on your dash, see who your mutuals are, stop seeing notifications on one specific post (great feature for if you accidentally go viral)? install it and play around with the settings. there are accessibility features too!
...and now I've made it look like people regularly get harassed off tumblr. WELCOME, NEW USER, TO THE HELLSITE! but for real, part of why I put this post together was so if someone starts in on tumblr Discourse and mentions people who have been harassed off the site, you can nod wisely and go "ah, yes, I have heard tell of this." just to give you some kind of context for things.
anyway, I'm always happy to Explain The Joke, provided it's a joke that I get, so if you see something that looks like a tumblr in-joke and want context, my ask box is open. just don't ask me about Homestuck. I know nothing about Homestuck and at this point I'm not sure I want to.
in conclusion, new user: go forth, be weird, become a part of the culture. I hope this guide has helped!

hey, for the record ive seen a few posts now about lives privacy policy/tracking being pretty sketchy, just for the record. idk how true that is since i haven't touched live at all but i just wanted to mention it in case there IS something sketchy going on that could potentially be bad for you/other potential live streamers
oh yeah I read through the ToS and I think I know exactly where peoples' concerns are coming from
in many social media ToS's, there is a section saying that by agreeing you consent to have all your content reproduced freely and without pay by the platform.
the purpose of this term is so that the platform can take your content and do different things with it - like DeviantArt's or INPRNT's Twitter accounts promoting artists by posting people's artwork, or basically anything involving a platform taking user content and featuring and/or changing it in any way. these use cases include things like automatic thumbnail crops of images, automatic watermarks, and content being categorized and featured in any way - but the list goes on and examples are many.
here's a specific example: I signed a similar ToS contract when I submitted my work to be featured on Intel's Office Hours. giving Intel permission to 'reproduce and transform my content without pay' allowed them to take my art and reproduce it (via screenshots) on their Twitter feed in order to promote the Office Hours session, and it gave them permission to actually show and record my work on the livestream in the first place.
these terms are broad in their wording and many people are not comfortable consenting to them because the language sounds predatory, but this is how social media currently functions in the internet ecosystem we know today.
we create and share content for free, and while social medias may give us tools to make money using them - these platforms are not obligated to pay creators when, say, crossposting their work somewhere else or featuring it on the Tumblr Radar.
the ToS DOESN'T mean these platforms get to take and sell your content directly - like they can't take my art and start selling merch with it - which is the only thing I personally care about regarding my own work.
it's definitely a tradeoff though, regarding privacy and personal data. like with late stage capitalism, there is no real 'non-sketchy' way to produce content for social media these days because we are all treated as products ourselves.
as a content creator, I have to weigh the pros and cons of what a platform provides for me vs. what it takes - but ultimately if I want total, %100 control of my work, I would have to stop using social media entirely, which unfortunately isn't feasible for me because it would directly harm my income. (my feelings on that warrant a whole post of their own but I think I'll stop typing here LOL, this is a novel already)
TLDR; the ToS sounds predatory but it's not as bad as it's worded to be... but it is still kinda iffy because that's just the state of social media. you can take it or leave it depending on your own preferences

An Honest Guide to Tumblr for Twitter Refugees (Part 2)
Part 0: What the heck is Tumblr and is it right for me?
Part 1: Configuring settings + customizing your Tumblr
Covered in Part 2:
Posting basics (introducing the editor, different post types)
Best practices (stating trigger warnings, adding image IDs, indicating sources, etc)
Post controls (who can reblog and reply to your posts)
Note: Like Part 1, I suggest you follow this guide while on desktop Tumblr. This post also contains lots of images without ID. Such images though are basically just screenshots of what's already described in the post body.
Posting Basics
I was gonna talk about curating your dashboard first, but considering how Tumblr veterans would think you’re a bot and just block you if they see your blog is empty, I think it’s best if we cover posting first.
Tumblr Editor
Before everything else, let’s get to know the editor.
On your desktop dashboard, you get to pick from different post types: Text, Photo, Quote, Link, Chat, Audio, and Video.
Tumblr media
It should be pretty self-explanatory what they do, but you know what? THESE DON’T MATTER.
I talked about this briefly in Part 1, so lemme just copy-paste it here:
Although Tumblr is still advocating its different posts types (text, image, audio, video, etc.), they’ve actually been rolling out changes to their editor where only a single post type is used (text) and you just add media to it. This is called NPF (Neue Post Format). On desktop, you can turn off the beta editor and thereby turn off NPF. However, on mobile web and on the app, posts can only be made in NPF.
To put it simply: There is no difference at all between the different post types. The only difference is that when you click on a post type (for example, photo), the first block* on your post will be related to that post type (e.g. a photo block).
* If you’ve used WordPress before, then this should be familiar. But if not, then here’s a quick explanation: A block is basically a component used to create a post (text block for text, image block for images, video block for videos, etc.)
More technical info about the block editor and how to use it can be found here.
So my point is, don’t sweat too much over the different post types.
---
You can also write posts in HTML / Markdown!
If the default rich text editor is not enough for you, then get more power by using the HTML editor. It doesn't support all HTML elements, but at least you can do fancy stuff like adding some gradient text:
gradients are cool
To switch editors, click on the gear icon at the top of the editor, and in the Text Editor dropdown, choose between Rich Text, HTML, or Markdown. If you’re curious about Markdown, learn more about it here.
---
Some neat stuff you have to know about posting on Tumblr:
A. YOU CAN EDIT POSTS!!!
We’ve had an edit button here for years, and best of all, it’s free! However, for posts of yours that have been reblogged, even if you do edit the original post, the edits won’t be reflected on the reblogged version. More about reblogging in Part 4 of this guide.
B. You can post loooong articles here
Like Twitter, Tumblr also has a character limit for text. However, this limit is on a per-paragraph basis and not for your entire post. And it’s such a generous limit that I’ve never once hit it. I don’t even have to keep tabs on how many characters I’ve made. You can find a list of all the limits you have to keep in mind when using the NPF/beta editor at the bottom of this article.
C. You can save drafts and schedule posts
If you can’t finish that post right now, no worries. Just save it to your drafts first and finish it later. Or, if you’ve prepared a cool post for New Year even though it’s still November, just schedule that post to publish on a New Year. More about queue/scheduling in Part 4 of this guide.
---
Best Practices
I don’t think I need to do a step-by-step on how to use the editor because it’s pretty intuitive, so let’s talk about best practices when it comes to posting.
On stating trigger/content Warnings
In Twitter, you do this:
// tw: r*pe, g*re, m*utilation . . . . [actual triggering content]
Please don’t do this.
First of all, here on Tumblr, we do not censor out those “problematic” words. You have to spell them out so that people who have such words filtered in their settings will actually not see them. Getting content filters to work will be a pain if people have to keep in mind all variations of rape (r*ape, r@pe, r4pe, etc).
Second, those multiple dots don’t do anything. Instead, utilize the “Read More” block. This block will hide everything that comes after it under a “Keep Reading” link.
On desktop, you click on this icon that has a zigzag sandwiched between two horizontal lines:
Tumblr media
On mobile, you do it by typing :readmore: and then hitting Enter.
(I’ll talk more about triggers/content warnings in Part 3, which will cover Tags)
Just spell everything out actually, not just trigger words
Instead of oomfs or moots, say mutals. Instead of unalive, say murder. No need to shorten or tone anything down here.
Add image ID’s
Image ID’s are basically descriptions of an image. This is important for people using screen readers. I’m guilty for not always following this, but just trust me on this.
On desktop, you hover over the image, click on the three dots that appear, and then click “Update image description.” Keep the description in simple words and state exactly what the image contains. I’m doing it for this particular image below:
Tumblr media
On dashboard and on some themes, the image ID will be shown when you click on the ALT button that appears when you hover over the image.
Sometimes, when OP forgets to put an ID, someone will reblog the post and add the ID themselves. If you see someone doing this on one of your posts, then please be an angel and add that ID to the original post. Image descriptions will be more useful/have more impact if they’re actually part of the original post.
---
Link back to source
If you’re sharing someone else’s content from another site, please indicate the source. You can do this by adding a link to the source from within the post body itself, or by using Tumblr’s content source feature in the editor:
Tumblr media
Click on the little gear above the editor, and in the “Content source” field, paste your link.
---
Do not repost other people’s gifs/edits
Sometimes you see a cool gif here on Tumblr that you want to use on your own post. People are generally fine with that, but you have to do it the right way.
DO NOT DO THIS: Downloading the gif and then uploading it to your own post.
Instead, DO THIS: Use Tumblr’s GIF block and search for a gif from there. Doing it this way would link back to the OP and even notify them in their Activity.
Here’s an example of how it looks:
Tumblr media
The gif above is from my side blog, and below the image, it says “GIF by fyeahbachisagi.”
Post Controls
If you don’t want a certain post of yours to get around too much, you can disable reblogs on it. Click the gear icon at the top of the editor, and in the “Who can Reblog?” dropdown, choose from Anyone or No One.
Tumblr media
Limits on Replies, however, is on a per-blog setting and not per post. Go to tumblr.com/settings/blog/username, and scroll all the way down until you see the setting for Replies.
Tumblr media
---
Okay, that’s all for Part 2! Next up, in Part 3, I will talk about utilizing tags
Update: Part 3 is up! Well, kinda... Not exactly a guide catered to Twitter refugees, but still a guide to tagging:
A Guide to Tagging on Tumblr: Types of Tags

Is tim gone forever? Is he gone from tumble too?
Timm is gone from twitter because wellll…
TW: Suicide related Content
Tumblr media
So yeah. Tbh he deserves a break. And you know what I’m gonna rant for a second because why not.
You know what fucking pisses me off? The fact that folks like Timm and myself get literally berated, doxxed, harassed, contacted irl, sexually harassed, threatened with legal action, get false narratives made about us, and some people still don’t fucking care or get it.
I shouldn’t have to open my tumblr and see pornographic images of my simself someone else created to sexually harass me. Timm shouldn’t have to open up his twitter messages and see suggestions like he got today. My friend Bucky shouldn’t have had to deal with Cowbuild misgendering him and telling him he didn’t exist. Why? Because even if people disagree with how we speak up, we’re still fucking humans.
But no. This community can’t be fucking decent. I’ve apparently got people on my own friends list feeding info to paywallers by pretending to be my friend. Even telling these whack jobs about my dating life. Yes. Really.
But you know what fucking sucks the most more than the treatment I’ve gotten from these fucking scumbags? The fact that the community stays silent while it happens.
Anyone who knows me knows I’m not a racist and I don’t talk like those fake screenshots. Am I dumb sometimes? Yeah. Do not I get every reference? Oh sure. And did I make a stupid choice or two in voting as a young barely adult? Yeah. But who the fuck has their shit together before the age of 25? Nobody. That’s who.
Meanwhile I’ve almost lost my fucking job for this community. I’ve had to look my boss in the eye and try to explain how I didn’t made someone’s child that they made up in a fake letter to discredit me suicidal. I’ve stood by and talked about this for so long with only a few folks chiming in, some of whom are friends still, some of whom abandoned me after they believed the false narrative that I’m some sort of hateful racist person. Even people who I praised and said were good people turned on me and blocked me just because they didn’t want to dare message and ask.
I’m not quitting this, but damn tonight I’m sure tired. I’m tired of feeling like I am shouting at the wind and nobody gives a fuck.
You wanna know the irony? I literally was driving home today and had the thought that the only way EA would end up doing something is if somebody died due to these clowns and it was mentioned in their note. Because that’s apparently what they want to have happen. They’re gonna fucking kill someone at this rate, and no amount of blood money from CC is going to absolve them of that fact. Nothing. Y’all came close twice with Bucky. And I will tell you, they told their family that if they died, it would be Cowbuild’s fault.
So I ask you, simblr…do you fucking want that?
At what point is this gonna be enough for y’all to stop being afraid of these “creators” and to start saying something? Because this isn’t drama anymore.
It’s life or death.
And it’s y’all’s move.
I’ll be off for a few hours. Cause honestly, I’m so damn disappointed in y’all for letting this go on this long and get this far.
You wanna do something? Speak up. And make noise. Don’t speak up because you wanna look like a good person and then shut up. Speak up and keep it up, because you are a decent person.
Show me this community is actually worth trying to fight for, because I’m struggling to see it.

explaining why this is poor design: new on left (light mode) and old on right (dark mode)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
having tag thumbnails is quite ineffective when all tags have the same thumbnail
i don't know about other people but i personally prefer not to search by tag? i usually search by keyword because it gives me more varied content in my search. strange choice to prioritise tagging but lmk what other people think
"217 recent... 63K..." yeah this is sooo optimised for different browser sizes
when have follower counts for tags ever been important information that we need to know while navigating to a tag? on the website where "follower counts don't matter"??? this is useless information; i used to primarily use instagram, it was also useless there and mainly used to double check i didn't misspell anything.
the leading and vertical margins/padding are bad; not only makes the title and subtitles feel disconnected, but also makes it harder for your brain to distinguish between sections.
making everything larger makes it more cramped, and again, removes the spatial distinction between where one entry ends and the next one begins
props for making stuff more distinguishable for colourblind users and also easier to read from further away though. although uh some other website has done it better and... well... we'll get to that later
Tumblr media Tumblr media
before we do, i had a search of what other people thought and stole this screenshot from @helpimstuckinafandom (ryuji image to stop the screenie from taking up too much space)
this is somehow WORSE - it's so cramped on the left side with so much empty space on the right, making it feel bloated and empty at the same time, the text in the different sections don't line up (they didn't used to either, i know), the enlarging of the icons reduces the negative space that was already lacking with my update, and somehow the bolded text of the search suggestions makes it feel even emptier compared to the cramped "tags" area. the good thing? less unnecessary information, like no tag follower counts, and no icons for recent searches.
alright. moving on, i sure do wonder where they got this idea for larger and bolder font choices from OH WAIT (roland image to stop it from being so damn large)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
oh wait this actually looks pretty good though. so why does twitter's layout work? same reason why tumblr's old one was, frankly, pretty ugly but worked:
SPACING VS CLUTTER
there's no images for the tags / searches because there doesn't need to be! there's no information about follower counts because again, it's not important! notice their width is almost the same as tumblr's, but it still feels better because the content is smaller and the spacing appropriately allows your brain to digest things into smaller chunks.
it's also completely legible and comfortable to read no matter your browser size!!!!!!!!!!!! which tumblr fails to do! even when display names reach their character limits (see: PearlescentMoon) it's still completely legible and not confusing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
ok so if twitter's so good why do i hate it looking more like twitter? simple: brand identity. tumblr removing the stuff that makes it look like tumblr, is in fact, bad. having thick weighted, rounded fonts is not inherently bad. it's what twitter looks like, it's what apple looks like - they have a certain brand identity of legibility, professionalism, and cleanliness that they need to uphold. which is great. microsoft is straight edges and geometric shapes - utilitarian, functional, professional.
what i'm trying to say is this: if you want to keep branding tumblr as the stupid clown funny gay people ancient hellsite, then revel in the aesthetic. in the blatant html-ness of it all, it's unique, you can't get it anywhere else (you can but not on a site as popular). YES make it more accessible, YES make it more welcoming and easy to pick up and use for new users. you don't have to strip it of it's individuality to do so.
i was going to end it here but right before i hit post, i realised tumblr has a tumblr-looking, well spaced, organised and aesthetically pleasing suggestion-based navigation system already - right under the search bar. anyways. that's all. goodbye

Dream's Apology
On May 7th, 2022, Dream released an apology following his past videos come to light. In them were harmful racist and antisemitic jokes.
I have not been able to find this apology on tumblr, nor the original link. I believe it is necessary for me to post this here as a point of reference, especially with how easily misinformation circulates and resources are lost. As always, please use your own judgement.

[Image ID: Screenshot of Dream's Pastebin 'Past' from May 7th 2022
"I’m writing this just as the thoughts come to my head so sorry if I ramble at all.
Just thought I’d readdress some things I’ve talked about before, and in turn, current events. The elephant in the room, I had bigoted humor, and some very privileged and bigoted views before Youtube. Point blank. I’ve talked openly about how YouTube changed me for the better, going from a very sheltered life to talking to people from all over the world, from different cultures and countries and communities. This is something I don’t mind talking about at all because I think growth is important, and that acknowledging that having done racist things, or other things of that nature, doesn’t make you racist. It’s your actions after knowing that what you did was racist or offensive that defines you. making sure you never do those things again, and recognizing that they’re gross, and completely unacceptable. that is what defines how you are as a person. Whether it’s a full blown racist ass “meme”, or just a micro aggression against a marginalized community. Recognizing it was wrong, and moving forward knowing that.
Some people grow up surrounded by only love & kindness & understanding and don’t realize how blessed they are to have been fed the things they were on social media, and things they were taught in school, from their parents, their friends, their local government, who all their role models were. Everyone has a different upbringing, and until you get out in the world and you meet people, you’re always a lot more ignorant. I didn’t have a twitter until 2018/19, a facebook, an Instagram, or any social media. Being able to talk to people in an instant, and have people not afraid to challenge my view point, or that didn’t have the exact same views as my friends or my family or my city, was something completely new to me. Something that at first I rejected completely, and didn’t try and LISTEN. I would listen just to know how to argue back, not to try and actually understand. Once I learned that there’s more to listening than just hearing what someone’s saying, I matured a lot and slowly but surely I met more and more awesome people and feel like a completely completely different person to even just 3 years ago when I had no social media at all.
Everything that people have been bringing up recently are things that are from videos that I deleted while I was learning and growing. There’s a reason you’re viewing it on the way back machine, and not my channel, and that they’ve been deleted since early 2020 or even 2019.
I’ve talked to fans of mine from all kinds of places and cultures and plenty of times that’s resulted in me deciding to take a video down, even if it was only one person I had a discussion with in private. A lot of my “humor” came from the YouTubers I watched growing up, and so knowing that, I’ve always strived to make sure my content is as friendly to people around the world as it possibly can be. No matter who it is. I feel like it’s my responsibility. I don’t want a kid to end up being accidentally hateful because it’s something that I made them feel like was okay. I’m not their parent, but sometimes creators can have more of an influence on someone’s heart than even their parents. I only want that to be positive.
It is upsetting seeing clips that I have removed long ago being brought up, because obviously they were removed for a reason. But like I’ve also talked about many times before, that’s going to unfortunately happen. When people see stuff like that, they will want some reassurance that you don’t hold those views, or that you were uninformed or being ignorant. but the fact is, that’s not always the case. Sometimes, you were just being racist. You can be being both ignorant and racist at the same time.
I’ve done racist things. I’ve done bigoted things. I’ve never done anything with the intent to harm someone, but I have definitely harmed groups of people without caring, or without understanding the effect my words or actions could have on that group. What struggles they have to deal with on a daily basis, and how me as a teenager didn’t care enough to understand that or realize that I was adding to hatefulness in the world. It sucks, it sucked, and I’m sorry.
It’s heartbreaking to see long since deleted clips resurface, because it’s paraded as if these are my current jokes, or my current positions, or that I am a horrible bigot, and when that happens, the hurt that my past self inflicted on probably a very small audience, now gets brought up again and amplified to hurt more people. It breaks my heart because I’ve always learned from my mistakes, and part of that has opened me up to being a lot more empathetic. It hurts seeing some of the random memes or jokes that I made growing up, because now I understand that they weren’t just jokes, they were harmful and they had real impact on those around me, even if I didn’t know it. People don’t need to see idiotic gross things that I did at a young age, or while growing up and finding myself as a person. that being said, I don’t want to just brush it off, because I feel like everything I’m saying here is important for you guys to hear, and it doesn’t matter how long ago something was, it’s bound to pop up at some point.
So I’ll just finish this by saying that I have nothing but love for everybody out there, I don’t care who you are, if you hate me or love me, where you’re from, or anything about you. you have value and worth, and you deserve to be listened to and understood. I’ll always do my best to learn and grow from my past mistakes, and listen to people when I make new ones, because I will. I ask that everyone judge me by my current content, my current character, and who I am now as a person, because that’s all I have to offer, and the best anyone can do. I’ll do my best to always be the best version of myself possible.
So I’ll just finish this by saying that I have nothing but love for everybody out there, I don’t care who you are, if you hate me or love me, where you’re from, or anything about you. you have value and worth, and you deserve to be listened to and understood. I'm back!
Tldr at the beginning so you don't have to read: I was on Tumblr before, I left, I'm back. I like Typology, MDZS, DSAF, PJSK, and Vocaloid. I'll make a real introduction later.
I've literally posted and deleted like 5 posts trying to reintroduce myself to tumblr. Once you spend years on TikTok, where if your post doesn't get at least a few likes within the first 30 minutes it's a failure and you delete it, it's kinda hard to kick the habit of instantly deleting posts out of embarrassment.
Anyway! I've come here to resurrect my corpse of an account. I made this account when I was a young teen and excessively delusional, posting about a disorder I thought I had but didn't, then when I gained a small sliver of a connection to reality and realized I didn't have the disorder I felt shameful and guilty, apologized for accidentally faking a disorder, then deleted all my content and moved far away from this website. I moved to posting strictly on TikTok, much more toxic from my experience, but I managed to fit myself into a small bit of a community. I didn't talk much due to being shit at talking online/over text, but I had a couple of mutuals and got a decent amount of traction for my Typology/enneagram content. I've been homeschooled since covid and have had zero chance to interact with anyone other than my immediate family for multiple years now, so it felt like I was sorta being social.
I'm back due to the fact my dad spontaneously blocked TikTok on our wifi, and with it, basically blocked the small semblance of a social life I had developed there. I use my YouTube to post only synth V covers (very rarely, I'm not the most confident in my covers so they mostly sit finished but never posted), I'm never touching insta again, and twitter (or ig X now?) is itself, so I decided to move here.
How tf did I even use this site back when I was younger?? I guess I had way less shame and social anxiety online, when I was on TikTok I was afraid to even comment, hell near 2020-2022 I was afraid to even like videos. Here reblogging is very important, I might just die. I will try my best to force myself to reblog posts I like and actually keeping my own posts up for more than 5 seconds until I get used to it.
I will make a proper introduction post later, but for now, what you can expect from me:
Post gushing about my faves
Random thoughts I thought was funny that I'll probably delete within the same 24 hours when I stop thinking it's funny
Typology stuff, mainly enneagram
Text posts about my interests (I can't draw for shit, so text posts are all you're getting)
Character.ai screenshots that I thought were funny (most likely in a big image dump)
Me bragging about my Project Diva/Project Sekai scores
And here's my interests:
Typology (big surprise)
Mo Dao Zu Shi
Dayshift at Freddy's (I know FNAF lore, but I don't consider myself a fan, so I'm a strange creature that is into a FNAF fan game but not FNAF)
Project Diva/Vocaloid/Vsynths in general
Project Sekai
My faves:
Nie Huaisang (forever a Nie Huaisang apologist)
Dave Miller (why he ourple?)
Jake Wilson (apparently I like purple)
Kagamine Rin (best vocaloid ever made)
Yuma (Synth V, idc if he's just a letter)
Ena Shinonome (sx4's are objectively cool)
Thanks if you read all that. I become a socially anxious mess online (for good reason, I'd think), so it'll take a while to adjust myself to a site that requires so much more active interaction. I'll make the real introduction post and then I'll try to post/reblog until I no longer have as much anxiety around it.

Stepping away from the Sneeg community;
[image IDs:
Four screenshots from Twitter user @JJAMMY_Skies's account of a twelve tweet thread. It reads as follows:
I'm taking the spade out of my user, btw, which feels horrifying given the fact that I've been apart of ♠️'s community since late 2019/early 2020.
(Continued below)
He was one of the few content creators I watched while sick, and his community was there to watch me get better over time, most of my friends and moots were made from ♠️, and I'll never forget that
However-
This community has also made me feel extremely unsafe; more specifically, the mods. I feel like ♠️ doesn't pay enough attention to the on goings of those he put in power in his community.
There's also the problem of ♠️'s content as of late;
He's been branching out in his reaction content, however, he's branched out into a racist youtubers content for reacting, a content creator who, a white man, fully admits to culturally appropriating a dangerous indigenous spirit's name, which puts me and other ntvs in danger.
This problem actually first arose in December, when ♠️ used a different indigenous spirit's name for a joke. After being ignored and passed off by mods, I was told ♠️ was sorry and wouldn't do it again.
Fast forward to April, ♠️ starts reacting to said YouTuber. I was argued with and discredited by the mods on this spirit.
A few weeks ago, the ytber fully admits to cultural appropriation and says he doesn't care.
A few days later, ♠️ reacts to another one of ytber's videos.
This not only shows me the mods didn't care to make sure ♠️ doesn't interact with/post that content anymore, but also that ♠️ was dishonest in his apology, IF he even apologized. His mods could have easily lied bt that.
Coupled with years of neglect from the ♠️ mod team to own up to past mistakes and actually form proper and healthy modes of communication with their streamer, I have to fully acknowledge that this community isn't safe for me anymore.
There's nothing here for me if I have to constantly be worried that the next video will cause me spiritual harm, or that I'll have to argue with a mod to care about ntvs-and other potential minorities- when they've proven to me over the years they can't.
So that's been my main reason for my absence on twt as of late. Seeing another friend of mine tweet about stepping away from ♠️twt and his community had made me feel more comfortable in doing so too,
So thank you, if you see this, for making me feel comfortable enough to post :"]
I'm probably not going to be using Twitter a whole lot from here on out, but I have Tumblr where I'm more active in other things.
Thank you for listening, and thank you for the years I spent in this community, even if not all of them were great.
I wish the situation was different, but until I can see improvement from Sneeg's community and Sneeg's mod team, this is it.
See y'all later :]

You know them, you love them-- Social Media AU's, better known by their acronym SMAU, are a hugely popular type of fanfic. They can also be a little daunting if you've never made one before (I would know lol!) So, I've compiled a list of tips + tricks and resources I wish I would have known about prior to making Why Else Would We Have Met.
If there is something on this list that you feel is missing, I'd love to hear from you so that I can add it. ❀.(*´◡`*)❀.

Plan out a chunk of the story before anything
Make a note to yourself for what you want each screenshot to convey
Keep tabs on how different characters type
Showing character profiles before the story starts is a fun way to get people acquainted w/ your characters before the story begins
Use real social media as reference
Use other SMAU as reference
Adding a masterlist is helpful for both the reader + you
Tumblr can only fit 10 images at a time, if you want to post more than that in one go use a side-by-side collage maker like Kapwing
The most important thing is that you are having fun ♡

trc deleted scenes: a masterpost
this is a post born primarily out of personal interest/necessity but i hope it will be useful to other people too. outtakes and cut scenes from trc have been floating around fandom spaces for a while, but they are infuriatingly hard to track down: some of them have been reblogged without tags and are therefore lost in the depths of tumblr, some i did not get to reblog before maggie deleted her tumblr, and some were posted to twitter and subsequently deleted.
so, since i was tired of having to dig through months and months of my trc tag (and often coming up empty handed), i decided to compile all the deleted scenes i could into this post. it is possible that i have forgotten some, and if that is the case, please let me know.
i owe a big debt of gratitude to kelly @harvardparrish for compiling a downloadable archive of maggie’s tumblr; most of the outtakes below i retrieved by browsing maggie’s “how i write” tag in the archive and taking screenshots of the relevant posts. others were screenshots that were posted to twitter by maggie, which i managed to save before the tweets were deleted.
enjoy!! (under a cut for length and future edits)
the raven boys
this is not so much a cut scene as a look at a first draft of trb from 2011. it was posted to maggie’s tumblr in april 2015.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
pretty wild stuff, right? i feel like the fox way ladies riding off into the sunset on gansey’s camaro is something we deserved in our lives :D
the dream thieves
this is the first real bunch of deleted scenes we got, and it’s pretty juicy. in fact, it’s the freakin’ motherlode of deleted scenes (and yes, it includes the fabled “fuck, is that ovid?” line). it was posted to maggie’s tumblr in december 2015, and happily, the actual post can still be accessed through the wayback machine at this link. below are screenshots from the archive:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
not actual cut scenes, but clarification on some of the scenes above, including some new info as well:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(can we just take a moment to mourn the gloriousness that would have been adam walking out of an explosion completely unharmed??? that would have been SICK, man.)
blue lily, lily blue
i actually couldn’t find any deleted scenes for bllb!! this could be because maggie’s computer was hacked twice and she said she lost a lot of material (or it could be because bllb is perfect and there was nothing to cut... i’m just saying)
the raven king
trk has quite a few cut scenes!! here are some that maggie posted to her tumblr in november 2016:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and here we have a couple more deleted scenes from trk, including one of adam’s most savage and iconic burns (it’s not outright stated as trk, but they mention ronan’s birthday and it seems to be winter so it’s a fairly safe guess). they were posted to maggie’s tumblr in march 2019, and i actually managed to reblog that post. below are screenshots from the archive:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
...and last but not least, some scenes that maggie posted to twitter on 21st March 2020. the tweets have since been deleted, and i’m not sure i was able to save all the images - i was mostly excitedly sharing them with my friends, so it’s possible i skipped one or two. hopefully not though!
these first 4 images were introduced by maggie as “some totally out of context deleted pages from one of the drafts of The Raven King with all the spoilers for Dreamer Trilogy hacked out”. make of that what you will.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
then there’s this ominous little snippet, which i would guess is an alternate version of adam being affected by the unmaker/demon:
Tumblr media
speaking of ominous... here’s some not-so-veiled gwenllian death threats (thanks to @skytouches for pointing out that i had missed it!)
Tumblr media
...and for a different kind of wrongness, here’s some painfully awkward gansey family content (thanks again to @skytouches!):
Tumblr media
also, a precious little scene where helen gansey basically calls gansey a himbo:
Tumblr media
and last but definitely not least... a scene that maggie herself only captioned “DELETE THISS”... cursed and blessed at the same time... the legendary, iconic ~parasite sex~ outtake:
Tumblr media
that’s all i was able to retrace! i’m sure there must be more pieces floating into the aether, but this is the most comprehensive collection that i am aware of, and i hope it will be as useful to others as it is to me.
excelsior!

Attention all Booklrs
EDIT:  Bec has just informed me I incorrectly named her co-team member and website creator as Sarah. Her name is actually Rachel - now FIXED.
I want to say firstly, this is not going to be a “reblog this or else!” sort of post - I hate those with a burning passion. I don’t want you to feel any pressure at all if you’re not comfortable interacting with this post. I don’t mind.
I’m writing this because a few days ago, I found a fantastic online resource that I think a lot of readers would find incredibly helpful.
It’s called...*insert drum roll here*
The Trigger Warning Database
Tumblr media
Click underneath for a full (ish) explanation of what this website is about and how it works.
“This website, this database, is a place for readers like us. It’s for readers with triggers, readers on their own trauma recovery journeys, readers who just want the safe, enjoyable reading experience they deserve.
I know the idea of content warnings is controversial. Meme culture has slowly eroded the legitimate definition of ‘being triggered’ to the general public but it is real, valid experience. We know that and hope this website can help you out, even just a little.”
-- “Our Mission”, The Trigger Warning Database (https://triggerwarningdatabase.com/about/)
The Trigger Warning Database (TWD) was launched in June 2020, and is run by two Australian book bloggers, Rachel and Bec (click the links for their social media pages).
As the mission statement suggests, TWD is a searchable online database of books and trigger warnings.
When you click on the link in my intro, it brings you to a page that should look like this:
Tumblr media
Hopefully you should be able to make the screenshot bigger (on desktop) by right clicking it and opening it in a new window. Sorry for the folks viewing it on mobile, I’m not sure if it will come up any bigger. Let me know if you have any viewing problems and I’ll see what I can do.
See the blue circle on the far left?  That enables you to search by trigger.
If you click on it, it brings you to this page:
Tumblr media
If you scroll down the page, you will find a list of triggers in alphabetical order.
Just click on the trigger that you want to look up, and it will give you an alphabetical list (by book title) of all the books in its database that have those specific triggers.
For example, here we have  a sample of the list that comes up if you click on the “Ableism & ableist language” trigger.
Tumblr media
Are you starting to see how it works?
A few things to note:
Once you start navigating through the website, you will notice the following menu:
Tumblr media
When you’ve left the homepage, you can also use this menu to help you navigate through the site.
Another thing you will notice as you browse through the site is that the suffix:
 “-phobia”
is not used anywhere, eg “homophobia”, “transphobia” etc.  Instead, you will find the suffix:
 “-misia” pronounced “my-Zee-ya”
Here is the site’s explanation as to why:
“Homomisia means a strong dislike of homosexuals and homosexuality; it refers to people bigoted towards gay people, and anti-gay rhetoric. We don’t use the term homophobia because it is misleading and inaccurate, literally meaning ‘a fear of gay people’. It is also belittling and insulting to people with legitimate phobias. Most people mean homomisia when they say homophobia.
It can also be swapped out for other prefixes, such as queermisia or bimisia.”
--”Why don’t you use the term homophobia? What does homomisia mean?”, https://triggerwarningdatabase.com/disclaimers/
Finally, you will notice the number of books in the database is quite limited. Understandably so, given it’s been running less than year! Is there a way you can help to grow this database?
YES!
From the menu, hover over the heading labelled “Contact”. You will see the following:
Tumblr media
Click on “Contribute”.
This will bring you to a submission page, where, if you want to add a book that is NOT already in the database, you can fill in the required details, which includes a list of any triggering content.
The database creators are quick to acknowledge that sometimes the emotional labour required to fill in said content can be extremely taxing. In recognition of this:
“If you choose to accept, as a sincere thank you, I will be listing contributors here with a link to whatever you to choose to promote (your blog, Twitter, BookTube etc). I will only be doing this with express permission however, so please know that entering your information above means you’re accepting that I will acknowledge your support and links on a public website.”
-- “Contribute”, https://triggerwarningdatabase.com/contribute-3/
You’ll notice I haven’t included every single detail about how to navigate this site. One, it would take too long for me to do (it’s already taken quite a while already), and two, I reckon you would find it easier to just navigate through the website itself.
Lastly, I’ll just tag a few people to help get the word out:
@thereadingchallengechallenge
@storytime-reviews
@books-and-cookies
Also, if someone wants to make this post friendlier for vision-impaired folks, please go ahead! @youthbookreview I know you do this - feel free to ignore, though, if the task is monumental. My fault!
Acknowledgments: Bec, member of the TWD team for letting me spread the word here on Tumblr. All images included belong to TWD.
I hope the Trigger Warning Database will help you to have a safe and pleasurable reading experience.

how do you make your webs, like finding so much information that pertains to one idea? do you save every piece of media that you come across that speaks to you, or do you have a particular method of searching?
Good question! I only started this blog a couple months ago, so even though I have been trying to document media I come across now, it'll take a while for my own 'archive' to be full enough to reference - I actually use the goodreads quote function a lot (although, beware, there is a lot of rubbish there, a la Cassandra Clare and JK Rowling) as things are pretty well tagged to an extent, and I use tumblr to search the 'web weaving' tag for ideas relating to what I want - for example, I found some pieces of my most recent web on 'the watcher' aka male fantasies by searching 'web weaving the male gaze' and scrolling down to see if I saw anything I felt would fit. I'll also go manually through my own 'words' tag on my main if I vaguely remember something relevant, and I do occasionally go through other, much older (and better) web weaving blogs - here I will plug the incredible @luthienne whose incredible weaves and archive actually made me decide I wanted to make my own web weaving sideblog rather than just stick to keeping it all mixed into my main, very crowded blog - using tumblr's (incredibly temperamental) search function with relevant key words.
The majority of my webs do come from my own (dubious) memory, such as the Only Ever Yours quote from 'the watcher', which I read when I was seventeen or so and stuck with me, or the Dead Like Me screencaps in the 'grief in tv shows and film' web where Clancy talks about thinking he had more time with George. But often I'll remember a quote, but not remember where it's from, and that's where these other search functions become particularly helpful. If you want a part of a book, archive.org is a free resource full of books scanned in by libraries that you can borrow for free online for anywhere between an hour and two weeks, and it also has a search function where you can type the part you're looking for into the search bar and it'll tell you exactly which page it's on (and I'd actually recommend archive.org for reading full stop, whether its for work or leisure, it's an amazing resource and helped me get through my dissertation). Sometimes this search function doesn't work, or it's awkwardly spaced out or some other issue, which is when I enlist my good friend Paint 3D and screenshot and crop, highlight, underline and otherwise edit it until it looks how I want it to. Similarly, with song lyrics, lyrics.com (despite being one of the worst formatted sites I've ever seen) does a pretty good job of matching the lyrics you remember to a song, which can then be searched elsewhere (I'm partial to genius.com, but once you have a name and an artist, you can find lyrics in dozens of places) for a cleaner presentation.
I also use TinEye, a reverse image search extension to properly source what I use; there's nothing worse than using an image or quote without proper credit, and that allows you to look for the earliest use of an image that isn't from pinterest/weheartit. A good example is this image which I found on a grunge aesthetic board - I popped it in TinEye (google image reverse search is alright, but it doesn't give you dates and only really works for famous artists/artwork, everything else it uses from a 'most similar' basis rather than an exact match) and it came back one weheartit, one flickr favourites page, one pinterest board, and a twitter. I clicked on the twitter, and unfortunately it had been deleted; however, it gave me the twitter name ezoreno in the now broken link, which I put on the image after a quick scour to double check somebody under the same name was not on tumblr or instagram or some other social media that I could link to instead.
Lastly, I do use 'ranking' lists if I'm unfamiliar with a topic - although I used several shows from my own memory for the 'grief in tv shows and film' web, there are several I used despite never seeing the shows - Charmed, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Wandavision were all shows I've never watched but had seen specific moments referred to in a Buzzfeed article, which itself was ripped from a reddit thread. One of the replies I got on it, funnily enough, was saying how The Walking Dead should have been included - they're probably right, but as I responded, I haven't seen The Walking Dead and in my search didn't come across any specific moment mentioned that I could've found (episode numbers and transcripts are great for locating where in the episode to cut to).
In short, I research and borrow and cut and copy; in other words, I cheat. Hopefully this demystifies the process a bit (and stops me feeling like I'm tricking people into thinking I'm smart/at all organised).

📓 !!
Okay im so excited please know I think about How The Light Gets In's world every day still, and so anyways here is a side story I want to write but there's a lot of set up regarding the reader and eef becoming friends again. For context, they were incredibly close around 2014-2017, but people were getting creepy and invasive and demanding about their friendship (think 2012 toxic side of the Phandom, if that makes sense), and a lot of the reader's relationships were strained at that time because while they had been successful before, they were absolutely blowing up after their first album released and they became far more mainstream. They felt like they were bothering the people they had become closest to, both because they're worried that they're a bother, and because gossip rags and paps would harrass their friends looking for a scoop, and so they ended up just completely cutting off contact without warning one day right before they went on their first tour. the start of HTLGI is about 3 years since they'd been in proper contact with any of the creators they were close to at that time.
DON'T LOOK AT ME on their 2017 ep Hyperfocus was a more general song in response to everything that had been happening in their life around that time, with a focus on how they stop associating with anyone for a while, without outright addressing it, but on their latest album n o s t a l g i a, read at 5am ft. Troye was specifically written at the start of quarantine, when the reader was getting back into YouTube, about their feelings regarding how their friendship with ethan ended, as they spent a lot of this time looking back of their YouTube career, and he was the person they were closest to for a very long time, before they iced everyone out.
OKAY SO THERES MORE OF THE BACKGROUND OF THE WHOLE FIC AND THE READER BUT
Werewolf Ethan & Mark. I'm sorry I don't make the rules. They have golden retriever energy you cannot change my mind. But also because this is the HTLGI you know that supernatural characteristics are able to be activated rather than just triggered by the full moon. What I'm trying to say is since this is set in the year of Unus Annus, they film a video together that's like, you know that show where a person has to try and outwit a professional tracker? Except its the reader being tracked by two werewolves at night in a national park. Reader is wearing some sort of night vision camera on themselves so whenever it cuts to them the audience can't actually see how they're using their powers, if that makes sense.
Also the reader agreed to this knowing it would probably be when they ended up telling Mark and Ethan about them being a demon.
Video is titled Hunting Down An Old Friend
A few Moments that the boys edit out:
The reader using their stupidly sharp prehensile tail to swing from tree branches, though they leave in shots where the reader's tail can't be seen.
Knowing that with the werewolves having advanced hearing, the reader would give themselves away by talking to the camera, they take a few minutes having flown up to a high tree branch, to pull out a notebook and do a little sketch of how Mark and Ethan appear in their Demon True Sight, and holding it up to their camera.
Werewolves being one of the animals who can kind of sense demons without being able to identify them, essentially like dogs can sense natural disasters and are often good judges of character, this can be heightened on command for werewolves. There's about 15 minutes of footage cut out of the boys discussing or mentioning how this place has awful vibes and that they should have done this during the day. It gets worse as they get closer to the reader, who didn't realise that the boys hadn't thought to ever use that particular power around them before.
("I say this with so much love and appreciation for you, dude," Ethan yells, looking up at you from the base of the tree they'd finally found you in, "but I- this is making me anxious I feel like something terrible's gonna happen, and we should probably get out of here and film the rest of the video back at Mark's." And behind him, Mark's nodding, shifting his weight from one foot to the other, eyes scanning the trees for whatever was most likely the cause of this terrible impending doom.
Oh. It's you. And they don't know its you.
Now or never, you suppose.
"Can you cut the cameras for a second? You're going to be fine I promise," you called back, and though they obligingly did, they both seemed antsy. You cleared your throat awkwardly, "that... that terrible feeling, that's not the park or anything in it- well I mean, it is, but it's just- it's me."
and later
"Dude your wings smell like rotten eggs."
"To YOU Ethan! And no they don't!"
"If it makes you feel better they smell like burning and rotten eggs."
"It does not."
(for reference, when enhancing their sense of smell werewolves can kind of distinguish various supernatural creatures, or parts of supernatural creatures. Some creatures have an inherent scent, but some, like angels and demons, only have distinct scents when they've activated certain attributesor abilities; demon wings smell like fire and brimstone, which unfortunately means burning and rotten eggs. I like to think angels wings are like the love potion in Harry Potter that smells like the things you love the most. Mark and Ethan usually don't enhance it around each other because they smell like wet dog to the other)
This gets about 2k notes on tumblr. The reader likes it:
Tumblr media
Ethan finally finding Y/N at the end of Hunting Down An Old Friend (2020) Colourised.
Other things to note regarding all this:
It takes a while to rebuild their friendship to the point where they're comfortable enough to be on camera together (eef and reader specifically).
However, the Unus Annus video is the first thing they properly do together, and the reader, in an effort to connect more and make up for the past, will join in multiplayer gaming streams if asked.
Impromptu duet in proximity Among Us of Young Volcanoes by Fall Out Boy, which has their respective chats and fandoms losing their minds, except it stops abruptly after the first chorus as they both remember the opening lines of the second verse (make it easy, say I never mattered -- those lyrics hit a little too close to home)
But also the reader convinces him to join him for a proper cover in like, February of 2021, and it's something deeply sappy (I'm thinking Bon Iver by mxmtoon because I think its sweet and fits them well)
Also Ethan being reminded that the reader is kind of a much bigger deal than when they'd been friends before.
designed to hurt (touch me) from their ep Working On It is nominated for a Grammy for Track of the Year, and n o s t a l g i a wins Best Pop Album (because it's my fic and I said so)
FIRST OF ALL designed to hurt (touch me) is a beautifully produced song about Corpse (which people do not know) and the title itself is literally making fun of something he said IMAGINE his reaction to it being Grammy Nominated 😂😂😂 God he'd be proud but lowkey fuming, meanwhile the moment the nominations are announced the reader tweets:
me: here is an album where I processed my entire world view including heartfelt explorations of the trauma of existing and oversharing in the public eye from a young age without the traditional barrier between audience and entertainer
the grammys: that's cute BUT you know the song you wrote to bully your boyfriend and also be horny on main for him before you guys were even dating? THAT deserves its own recognition.
meanwhile Ethan's like..... this is the same person who I filmed a video with playing cards against humanity, and you laughed so hard you almost threw up. I am very proud but deeply confused.
The Hot Meme of Late April 2021 is "2 time Grammy Award Winning Artist Y/N" with a gif, still, or quote from the reader where they're just being an absolute chaos gremlin.
Of course we have "If I bleached my asshole for charity I'd do it tastefully."
2 Time Grammy Award Winning Artist Y/N speaking to their actual boyfriend in the year of our lord 2020: You are being executed for Clown Crimes.
ethan posts a short video to twitter simply of his screen where he's renaming a folder from "Never Before Seen Images of Grammy Award Winning Artist Y/N" simply changing it to 2 time Artist. The reader responds specifically to his tweet with a video of themselves asking Google how to hard reset someone else's computer.
So many screenshots from old videos surface that week.
I miss this world. Sorry this is rambly!!
