this doesnt need a response or anything, just wanted to say how cool your guys reference section is !! when i was first getting into fanfic years ago that wouldve been SO helpful, and its so cool u guys made that for new fans :)) awesome stuff!! <3
I DO need to respond because I'm absolutely thrilled that the Reference Section is getting some use! Thank you so much for reaching out and bringing attention to one of the lesser known parts of the library.
If you're new to the blog (hi! welcome!) or have somehow just missed the Reference Section (that Card Catalog got you first), then you are in for a treat!
Have you ever wondered about how to tag your fic? Or where you can find other rec blogs? Maybe you want to link your AO3 to your tumblr, or your tumblr to your AO3! Maybe you just love reading fanfic, but feel nervous about leaving comments. Information on all this and more can be found in the Reference Section!
Basically, if I come across something that I think would be helpful to the fanfic community, I add a link to it in the Reference Section. Some of the tips are written by me, and some of them are written by the @wolfstarlibrarian (who has their own awesome Reference Section as well!) and some are written by other blogs that I just happened across that had really good information. If you haven't used it before, I hope that you'll at least check it out in the future and see if it's something that might be useful going forward!

Conibear Shellhouse
Built in 1949 and renovated in 2005, the Conibear Shellhouse is home to the University of Washington’s rowing program as well as the Windermere Dining Hall.
“Conibear Shellhouse can be described as the heartbeat of athletic life as it serves as a hub for all of Husky student-athletes. The building houses the rowing coaches’ offices, the student-athlete dining hall, five shell bays, and state-of-the-art training facilities for the men’s and women’s crews.”

The Coniber Shellhouse also features two different study halls and a student lounge on its main floor.
The lower level is where the rowing team facilities are located. They can be accessed using the Crew entrance or descending a staircase from the main level.

Windermere Dining Hall
The student-athlete dining hall is located on the main floor of the Conibear Shellhouse and has a capacity of 250 students. The wide open space features 18 feet tall, floor to ceiling windows and hanging from above is the famous Husky Clipper, the boat used by the UW 8-man crew to win a Gold Medal at the 1936 Olympics.
Equipped with a state-of-the-art kitchen and employing a full-time nutritionist, Windermere Dining Hall facilitates optimal eating choices for student-athletes in all phases of their training.

editing resources for writers
wanted to share a couple resources, since i use them for basically everything i write but i haven't personally seen them in resource posts yet!
Balabolka - a FREE text-to-speech engine. somehow having a soulless computer voice read my fics back to me helps me pick up on typos and weird wording.
a lot of TTS engines i've come across have a word/time limit, but this one does not. it does require a download but i've had it for a couple years now and it doesn't seem like it's done anything shady to my computer (i am not a computer expert so take that as you will)
WordCounter - shows you some data about your words, but what i find particularly useful is the frequency of certain words/phrases. if you worry about overusing things or being repetitive, it can be helpful for editing. (i learned recently that it does NOT count super common words like 'that,' so if it's a big crutch word for you, keep an eye out for... that.)
apparently if you make an account you can also set writing goals if you wanna write directly into the site, but as of right now i just use it as a word frequency detector.

I've seen a few people over the past week or so looking for prompts or struggling with writer's block, so I thought it might be helpful to share all of the prompt stuff I have saved in my fic writing bookmarks folder. I want to put together a more thorough post that talks about different ways to use prompts and such to help with writer's block to post to the Jeff/Annie Resources tumblr, but that's something I'm going to take some time to really craft, so I'm just going to post some of the links I have here for now.

This is a fun d100 chart where you either roll a d100 or put '100' into a random number generator, and you use the keywords the given number provides to craft your story.
This is just a nice site that has 40+ writing prompts of different types
Random prompt, dialogue, line, famous quotes and first line generators are GREAT tools, especially when you're trying to use prompts to get through writer's block, whether you're using them as prompts to put into the fic, or just as a prompt of inspiration. I don't know if prompts tables are still big these days, but they were really big in the days when livejournal dominated fandom, and they're extremely useful, whether used in the generally intended way - completing each one in order - or as a set of numbered prompts to choose from. And here are just a few random number generators. These can be used for anything from picking a random prompt number, to being given a random amount of words you have to write, to getting an episode number for a show so you can make yourself write a post-ep for it, all kinds of stuff like that. 1 2 3 4

Hey, so I'm thinking about making a sideblog to transcribe DAO.
I know there's one working through DAI, but while researching the DAO fic I plan to write once Enasal's main story is complete (don't worry, I'll still write one shots and stuff). All branching paths, all races/genders, that sort of thing.
Also debating on putting each bit on YouTube. It will be a massive undertaking, I know, but seeing the lack or resources for DAO peeps makes me sad.
Is there anyone who think they would be interested in this? Or am I wrong and there's a DAO transcript hiding out there somewhere?
If you feel like this is something you'd like, like or share so I can guage interest.

deeply enjoying creating the worlds of star wars: 365 days for all the extra tidbits that dwell within that aren't in the art of star wars series, such as these bits about the jedi temple. like the roof map, which i am practically capering over being able to look at. now i can put labels on it.
also, there are many pictures of all the miniature set mock-ups and the actual miniatures used in the films, like the communications centre room where anakin missed the outer rim sieges briefing in favour of failing therapy with yoda; one of the later council room miniatures because they couldn't keep the original set; and the gunship hangar; as well as many, many more.

Showing versus Telling
I struggle a lot with "showing and not telling." Here's some exercises and techniques I've tried to practice this from researching different methods that I just conjured up together (please take with a grain of salt, everyone is different, lol.):
Object Observation: Choose an object in your immediate vicinity and describe it without naming what it is. Include details about its texture, color, size, shape, and any other distinctive features. Basically: have someone else to identify it based on your description.
Character Emotions: Write a list of emotions and for each one, write a short scene that shows a character experiencing that emotion without directly stating what the emotion is. i.e., Instead of saying, "Alistair was angry", you could say... "Alistair's fists clenched, his jaw tightened; his face turned red as he stared at the broken amulet on the floor."
Active Verbs: Challenge yourself to rewrite sentences using more active, specific verbs. i.e., "She walked into the room" (telling) could become, "She strutted into the room, her boot heels clicking against the marble floor" (showing).
Sensory Details: Choose a setting, real or fictional, and describe it using all five senses. What can a character see, smell, hear, taste, and touch in this environment, or moment?
Dialogue: Use dialogue to reveal information about your characters and the plot. Instead of telling the reader that a character is upset, show it through what the character says and how they say it.
In-Depth Character Description: Take a character from your story and describe them in detail. Show their personality through their actions, speech, and appearance, rather than direct statements.
Rewrite Telling Sentences: Take a piece of your own writing or a passage from a book and identify the "telling" sentences. Rewrite them in a way that "shows" instead.

It’s the current version as of mid May 2022, and contains manga spoilers through about Ch 350. I’ll be editing and adding as things come out - there’s a lot of unposted ages even for some characters with birthdays, so I guestimated for a few and used varying tumblr, fandom wiki, and reddit posts along with my own conjecture to make up the timeline. 
I know the least about the Endeavor Agency and the Meta Liberation Army arcs, so those are a little off I’m sure. I didn’t use a 20xx year, instead choosing to have the year most of the main cast was born as year 0 and extrapolating from there. Feel free to use as a timeline resource or to give me directions to specific dates for the vaguer event lines!
