I first saw them with Ice Nine Kills on Nov. 2021 at that time only really knew one song from them but also had seen the TDOPOM music video)
Then I saw them on March 2022 with Underoath.
On August 2022,(this was for the tour to promote Tour of the Concrete Jungle) they came to a venue near me and hung out after the show with other fans and the band came out. At the time I had only really know what the singer looked like so without knowing the rest of the crew had came out a million times to load the trailer 😂
When Noah came out I was able to say Hi and take a photo with him. Even though he was holding all his shit he was kind enough to take photos with some fans.
Tumblr media
I then went and saw them on November 2022 in Milwaukee and again a day later in Chicago for their Tour of the Concrete Jungle. I was able to get VIP for both shows. The first VIP I asked them if they think they could out do themselves for any other tour (which, they fucking did somehow). I don't remember his answer exactly cause it kinda wasn't related to the question 😅
That show I was able to give Noah a crown during their song "Concrete Jungle" 👑
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Noah taking the crown (video from my POV)
Noah taking the crown (Video from fan POV)
The next VIP in Chicago I asked if they still had the crown and Noah said that he did and it was on the bus (He also could have just said that cause he didn’t wanna upset a fan, so who actually knows 🤷🏻‍♀️) and I was able to print off the photograph of him taking the crown so I asked them if they would sign it later (which they did) I also gave them a gag gift just to make them laugh of the edited photo of Noah as Jesus and I put it on a candle and when they saw it they laughed and Noah said something along the lines of “It’s me as Jesus” *shows the crowd* “As if my ego wasn’t already big”. I also gave them photos that a friend drew for them and they said they liked them. Seems like a lot but it went by fast. At least in my head it did.
After that show Noah and Bryan came out and talked with people and signed stuff. One of my friends was able to give a sticker to Noah that she bought for him and she was able to show him her Bad Omens Tattoo. I got a photo with him again but I look like trash so I’ve never posted it.
Then I saw them again for Concrete Forever.
So yes, I’ve seen them a good amount of times. Nothing crazy.
Was he shy? I’d say kinda. I think when interacting with fans you have to step out of that, even if you are shy in general. Just like when he’s on stage, he has to step out of it to preform the way he does.
He was kind and sweet in person. He tried his best to talk with everyone who wanted to talk. He took pictures and signed peoples stuff. We made fun of him for wearing shorts and sandals when it was cold as shit in Chicago. He joked back. It was a good time. 😊

Character Theme Song Tag
It's been forever since I was tagged for this by @j-1173, and I am finally getting to it! Thank you so much for the tag! I'll be passing it along with a soft tag to @365runesofwriting, @saltysupercomputer, @bookish-galaxy, @ashen-crest, @writingpotato07, @andromedaexists, and @penspiration-writing, along with an open tag for anyone else who wants to join in!
Rules as I understand them: share songs that fit characters from your WIP. The songs can be what they'd have as entrance music, their boss/hero theme, something that goes along with their personality, or simply suits their vibe
I tend to have larger casts, so I'm gonna cheat a little and go with Golden D for this, as there's only four MCs in that one lol
(For those who forgot or never knew, this WIP is based off a game I played with irl friends, and so only one of these characters is mine-mine, and as such, the entrance songs for Magni, James, and D were not picked by me. The one for Magni was suggested by me, but I honestly can't stand James' or D's songs lol listen at your own risk)
Ragnar Entrance—Ódinn by SKÁLD Vibe—Yggdrasil by Forndom Personality—Grá by Wardruna
Magni Entrance—Ragnakamp by Danheim* Vibe—Valhalla Calling (Metal Version) by Miracle of Sound Boss theme—The Last Giant from Dark Souls 2 (1:13 and a half mark)
James Golden Entrance—What’s Left of Me by Bless the Fall* Vibes—Dangerous by Shaman’s Harvest Personality—Falling Down by Lansdowne
Double D Drew Dunne, Baby™ Entrance—Writing on the Walls by Underoath* Personality—Just Breathe by Pearl Jam Hero theme—Day of Fate by Team Fourstar

I don’t have a full best of 2022 playlist yet because there’s about 30 albums that came out this year I haven’t had the chance to listen to in full yet but these are the 10 I’ve had on repeat:
Senses Fail - Hell is In Your Head (post-hardcore)
The Interrupters - Into the Wild (punk)
Parkway Drive - Darker Still (metalcore)
The Devil Wears Prada - Color Theory (metalcore)
No Devotion - No Oblivion (post-punk)
Rings Of Saturn - S/T (instrumental metal)
L.S. Dunes - Past Lives (post-hardcore)
Pinkshift - Love Me Forever (punk)
The Wonder Years - The Hum Goes On Forever (punk)
Underoath - voyeurist (metal)
Boston manor - datura (punk)
As far as bands I discovered for the first time this year… Magnolia Park (pop punk), We are the Union (ska), Shadow of Intent (death metal), the Dollyrots (punk), the Oval Portrait (post-hardcore), Courtesy of Tim (ska), Slugdge (black/death metal), and Brand of Sacrifice (deathcore) are my new favorites.

i am so curious to see if you know earth crisis/what you think of them lol
okay, fuck, you accidentally asked me about something i love to talk about. so, one of my favorite niche music scenes to talk about is the hardcore scene and what spun off and evolved out of it over the course of like the 80s, 90s, 00s and earth crisis occupies such an interesting space in that niche.
bc like when we talk about metalcore now, we're not really talking about bands like earth crisis. we say metalcore in a mainstream sense and people think like oh bad omens, or periphery, or underoath or whatever, right? the -core in modern metalcore basically indicates like breakdowns, but the -core being drawn from is actually more post-hardcore than it is actual hxc hardcore. right? (broadly speaking, don't @ me)
but when it comes to DEFINING the very first prototypical metalcore sound, literally the melding of hardcore and metal, for me one of the first bands that comes to mind is earth crisis. that like 90s NY hxc scene sound smashing full into like bolt thrower, right? they're iconic and they cast a long shadow over the scene. and that's very interesting sonically and it doesn't even begin to scratch the surface of the ideological shit going on in the sxe and xvx scenes they were a part of. i mean, what a fucking cesspool those scenes can be. and, no, earth crisis isn't a hardline band but if you get mistaken for one enough times it kinda means??? maybe there's something you could be doing different????
but still: they were HUGELY influential and they really pushed a vegan message in front of a lot of audiences who otherwise would never have thought twice about it. that's something, at least.
anyway. all that shit is so fascinating. i could talk about it forever. which i shouldn't do, bc that's NOT what you asked me. but uh anyway
If I know them:
Favourite Song: "to the death" probably no surprise that i prefer their animal rights songs over their anti-drug rhetoric lmao. this song goes so hard. the ending? if you're in the car driving to work and you're so so soooo sleepy and it's 6:30 AM but VEGAN FOR LIFE! VEGAN TO THE DEATH! hits you ARE going to sing along. anyway, at the risk of losing cred in front of hxc purists i will freely admit to thinking earth crisis got even better after they reformed. to the death is a sick comeback album - it's leaning more into the metal side of things, which is my preference, and it's fucking HEAVY. it just GOES, it's a chainsaw and it doesn't quit for like 40 minutes.
Least Favourite Song: ugh god idk. so much to choose from. first one that comes to mind is "killing braincells." now, here's the thing: i am a slither defender. i think it's a fun record. i think it's cool when a bands sound evolves, i like that there's groove/nu-metal influence here! they sound like prong! i love prong! and this song isn't even, like, bad to hear but lyrically it typifies the kind of punitive moralizing bullshit that i hate in the sxe scene - pointing at addiction and people suffering from it and literally saying "what is deserved is what they receive" like. fuck off already.
Favourite Album: okay as much as i love later era earth crisis, i do think gomorrah's season ends is one of the most iconic 90s metalcore/xvx albums of all time. so, it's tied between that and salvation of the innocents.
Least Favourite Album: last of the sane. i don't care about covers.
Song that got me into them: god, idk. probably forced march, since it's the first track off destroy the machines.
Seen Live?: no and i'm not sure i'd want to lmao. maybe if the lineup was good. but it would be a tall order to get me to willingly enter a space full of hardcore earth crisis guys

I have a bone to pick with you as I noticed there is a serious lack of love for alexisonfire in your characterization of Robin. Bro, c'mon. A little bit of Crisis? Pulmonary Archery, anyone? I condemn you as DGD, Thursday and alexisonfire were heavy rotations some years back. JK, I AM JOKING, this is a joke. I love all the music you've mentioned.
In all seriousness, it's so hard to spot fellow posthardcore fans in the fandoms I usually read fic in when everything is Tswift this and harry styles that, WHO I AM NOT BASHING (I just have no interest in them and am quite frightened by their fans) so every time I read your fic I like to spot the music references and then suddenly I become leonardo-dicaprio-pointing-at-his-TV.jpg. (Also, every time you describe math rock is hilarious to me as a major math rock head and i am going to describe it as weedly weedly music from now on).
I’ve got a confession to make, anon… I don’t really listen to Alexisonfire
I like what I’ve heard of them! But they don’t stick in my brain like a lot of the other bands in that era, and I think it has to do with their sound mix. Circa Survive, Underoath, and all those guys have these very crisp productions that highlight the vox and lead guitar, and they worm their way into my brain and hang out there forever
My real error, in retrospect, is that I’ve only included one Finch reference and it was in a chapter title. You know, you JUST KNOW that What It Is To Burn was Robin’s pining music. She was yelling “Letters to You” in the shower to cope with the angst
I like Josh Ritter’s definition of his music as “rock and roll with lots and lots of words”. I’ll listen to pretty much anything with dense lyrics, so I like Taylor Swift’s more recent stuff, but Harry Styles does not grab me. “Watermelon Sugar” has about 12 words in it. I can’t latch onto that
A large part of why I set this fic in 2008 is so I could make Robin an emo/screamo/post-hardcore fiend, with Eddie as the metalcore and prog metal-adjacent guy, and it wouldn’t feel anachronistic. One of my 11th graders listens to metal, and I felt my bones wither into dust when she didn’t recognize August Burns Red. Dust, dust I say!
This ask already got really long because talking music, but I cannot take full credit for the term “weedly weedly”. Finn McKenty uses it in his YT channel The Punk Rock MBA and compares the “weedly weedly gene” to the cilantro gene. Some people vibe with it, and everyone else is left thinking ?!?

Weekend albums time!
So Saturday was Deloused in the Comatorium by The Mars Volta. So I had heard of this band, and the way they get talked about made me think they're a really highbrow metal band. And they're like, not not that. But at least for me, this brought a phase I thought I'd buried a long time ago roaring back to life, and it wasn't metal. Nah, this brought little middle school Kwaggy back to life, and little middle school Kwaggy fucking loved SCREAMO music. This activated the exact same neurons that listening to like, Senses Fail and Underoath and Relient K did. (Yes I was unwittingly listening to Jesus music in middle school despite being Jewish, it's deeply embarrassing let's all move on.)* To be clear though, this album fucking shreds and I loved it. 5/5.
Sunday was Low by David Bowie. Yup, that sure was a Bowie album. Two thirds super fun and catchy music that you'll love forever, ending on one third aimless instrumentals that feel like they're very much only there to make the album not be twenty minutes long. 4/5.
And this morning was Surrealistic Pillow by Jefferson Airplane. The two big time classics on here are great, but nothing else really grabbed me. "She Has Funny Cars" and "Go To Her" are pretty good I guess. My gut says a 3 on this one, but looking at my liked songs about a third of the album is now on there so it'll feel wrong if it's not at least a 4/5, so let's go with that.
Mildly fun story below the break:
*Okay so I went to the Warped Tour when I was a sophomore in high school, and one of the bands me and my friends made sure to see was Underoath. They put on a pretty good show, and at the end the lead singer's getting ready to do the last song but before they start he has a brief talk break. He's like "hey, thanks everyone for coming out today, you've been a great crowd. We just want you to know that we rock for the lord, and even if you don't have faith in Christ, Jesus loves you. Now let's finish this set!"
*goes into the opening of the last song which is just absolutely incoherent screaming*

was tagged by @littleblondesoprano to shuffle my on repeat playlist and say the first 10 songs and then tag 10 people, thank you jordan!! (i’ve been listening to my punk-adjacent playlist on repeat recently, and don’t have a formal “on repeat” playlist, so i’m doing that in its place!)
1.) avenues and alleyways - rancid
2.) roots radicals - rancid (don’t know why the same album came up twice in a row but whatever)
3.) how do you think it feels - lou reed
4.) big long now - nirvana
5.) now i wanna sniff some glue (demo) - the ramones
6.) we are the involuntary - underoath (from the 2009 warped tour compilation album)
7.) not forever - tsunami bomb (from the 2002 warped tour compilation. a lot of the songs on this playlist are from these 2 albums)
8.) immortals - fall out boy
9.) happy holidays, you bastard - blink-182
10.) looking up - paramore
as always with these i’m too chicken to actually tag anyone so do it if you want to and say i tagged you lmao
