People have to stop shaming some things- I found this in a shaming group, but even if you’re not into this aesthetic, how can you not acknowledge that this is a very cool piece for someone who is.
That’s it, I’m home design shaming

The perks of working at a fabric shop
Last summer, I got a bunch of surplus fabric samples from my boss, saving them from the trash.
I knew I wanted to make a blanket from them right away and spent a good bit of time counting, sorting and planning the arrangement. I tried to spread the colours and different patterns as evenly as possible and went for an otherwise simple approach, as this was my first time quilting anything bigger than a pillowcase. It was at times super difficult to wrangle this under my sewing machine and handstitching the binding all around took forever. I might add some more intricate stitches on the individual rectangles at some point, but for now I really like how it turned out and it makes for a fun cover for my couch.

Lately I've been pleased whenever I find a way to make use of something that would otherwise get thrown away; for instance, I learned that you can use scrunched-up aluminium foil to scrub pans and pots, instead of that ball of wire you can buy!
The walnuts that you can't completely clean out of shells, are a great bird snack, who can get their beaks in there. Fruit that is starting to go bad/already has gone bad, is a great food for butterflies. Any food that's starting to get rotten can be a great addition to a compost pile and a snack for any worm. Citrus peels can be used to infuse vinegar to make nice-smelling cleaning solution. Or they can be made into sugared candy! Lemon slices that make a great winter decoration, can be used as a halloween decoration later when they turn black. Any small carboard box you have can be used for organizing, and if you have a big one, you can put a wooden board on it and create a little shelf to put plants on! An old cracked aquarium can be used as a little greenhouse, or an extra shelf on top of a surface. Old newspapers and old clothing can be cut into strips or tubes, and weaved into baskets. Old paper egg cartons can be soaked, blended and then turned into paper. Any plastic container can get a hole at the bottom and grow a plant in it.
Please tell me more things that you know how to reuse that would otherwise just be thrown away! I want more of this knowledge.

Just pokin’ around Madame Absinthe’s Place of Peculiarities in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Madame Absinthe, (or Miss E), describes herself as a collector of stories and broken and forgotten things.
She and her partner Brodie share a love for oddities and eccentric décor, but it runs much deeper than that.
They collect and rescue treasures that are often seen as unwanted by other people –
things like broken mannequins, balding or neglected taxidermy, mismatched furniture and décor – giving them a new home and a new life.
Their apartment’s vibe is similar to an old Victorian museum of long-forgotten items and oddities that are both creepy and beautiful at the same time.
Every nook and cranny is filled with old, rusty medical tools, poorly executed taxidermy, chipped religious statues, broken mannequins wearing outrageous one-of-a-kind outfits, a casket, and even an embalming table.
Miss E and Brodie both believe that coming home should feel like breathing in darkness as a sigh of relief. It’s YOUR space where no one is judging you and it should make you entirely happy.
She says there is a lot of beauty in the darkness – if only you know where to look for it.
