Me and Josefine took some pictures of our kits in Visby this weekend. This is some of my oldest pieces, but with regular boots as my handsewn got wet and were drying. The black underdress and the grey apron has been with me since I started sewing. Although many things can be said about the mistakes I made and the *cough* let's say "fantasy inspired take", it's some of my most comfortable pieces, and I'll probably keep them till they fall apart.

Esther Salmson (Nov. 16, 1877 - 1966) was a Swedish artist who studied at the Academy in Stockholm from 1897 – 1903 and then at Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Paris. The Battle of Visby was a violent Medieval battle fought between the inhabitants of Gotland and the Danes, with the latter emerging victorious. The battle left a lasting archaeological legacy; masses of slaughtered soldiers and citizens lay scattered across what was once a blood battle field. Slashed and broken bones, skeletons still in their chain mail and armor, and smashed skulls, some still with spears and knives protruding out of them. One can only imagine what they endured before they breathed their last breaths.
