I can imagine preggo wife literally talking and talking and talking in the middle of a movie and gets offended and leaves when Joel tells her to quiet down
Joel Dealing with Preggo Wife : Yapper

notes: Oh I had fun writing this! no warnings (maybe some Fugitive and Raiders spoilers), Enjoy!

Joel’s pretty excited for movie night. It’s one of the few films the two of you don’t argue over and can pretty much watch the entire way through without disruption.
Or at least, it used to be.
Joel settles against the couch armrest with his feet propped up, knees bent slightly so you have room to sit in front. He’s got any snack you could think of within an arm reach away, and he’s got the title on pause so you can scooch your fat booty and big belly comfortably. Usually takes about 15 minutes of squirming, smacking his chest to “fluff” it up, adding a pillow at his crotch, then taking it away because you like his hard cock there instead, elbow in his groin and then his knee, then you gotta get up to pee before starting the whole process over.
“OK Im ready!” You say after 15 minutes on the dot, snuggling close to him with the back of your head rested against the crook of his neck.
He finally hits play, and the Lucasfilm logo flashes across the screen. The tropical forest and ominous music plays as the familiar font of Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark fade on to the screen.
“Joel. Joel. Hey Joel.”
“Y-yes?”
“Did you know Indiana was named after George Lucas dog? Who also was the physical inspiration for chewy?” You ask  rhetorically.
It takes him a second to understand you’re asking him a question. “What?”
“Chewbacca! From Star Wars!”
“Oh ok neat,” he says with some enthusiasm, but quick to end it and get back to watching the movie—
“Yeah also Sean Connery is also apparently—well guess how much older he is to Harrison Ford.”
“Um—I don’t—I don’t know.” Joel says slowly, watching as Indy carefully removes the sand from the pouch and weighs it to the gold idol.
“C’mon, guess!”
“I really don’t know, can we—“
“12 years older than Harrison in Last Crusade! My mom was like ‘WHAT no way’ and I was like ‘Yes way’ and she was like ‘He's his father and he's got all that white in his hair and receding hairline’ and I was like ‘Joel's only in his late 30s and he's got white in his beard.’”
Joel can’t hear a damn thing happening on screen except the shouts about hating a pet snake named Reggie. “Wha—“
“Not that you look anything like Sean Connery in Last Crusade. Maybe in like Bond —oof he was the hottest Bond. Plus you got like a receding beard-line with all the patches, I don’t know, but my mom was like ‘Ya know Joel's got more white hair lately since you've been pregnant’ and I was like ‘Nah uh’ and she was like ‘Ya huh’ and I was like ‘Huh I wonder why that is…?’ Anyway but nope only 12 years between him and Ford—“
Joel turns to look at you with a frown, a bit confused and amazed at how you have so much to say, right now, oblivious as ever.
It doesn’t phase your rambling one bit: “—Like damn, but you know Harrison Ford has always been handsome. But like in the bad boy kind of way, not like handsome upstanding like Christopher Reeves? When I saw The Fugitive, I was like ‘oooohhhh I'll be his wife now’ hahaha! no no I’m sorry, he’s famous and I’m not so that’s why I married you, but that's such a fall film don't you think? Minus the murder and betrayal and fucking Dr Charles Nickles like was he British or not? He was in and out of an accent the whole time? Didn't make sense to me but yeah, it's just such a fall Cozy film.”
Joel looks back at the screen and realizes Marion is already being cornered by the Nazi creep: “Ah huh—honey—“
“OH! I Love her song! It’s kind of like Leia and Han’s from Empire except the last notes are different, like it goes do doooooo instead of da dat dada daaaaaaa, That’s just John William’s for ya, but you’d never notice they were so similar!”
Joel opens his mouth to say something but nothing comes out as you continue:
“—Also I know you said my mom made good apple pie but I really wanna try to make it because I want you to like mine more, so I need you to get some apples and pie crust and butter and stuff from the store, I’ll make a list so you can get it. They said we need ground cinnamon but I think ours expired like 5 years ago so don’t forget that. And then I'm gonna tell you how to slice the apples since I can't handle sharp objects and then oh I need you to get the mixer from the top shelf and then you have to mix it all together and slice the top with like little heart patterns and then put it in the oven n stuff ‘cause it's hot and I don't wanna burn OH and that reminds me—!”
“BABE!”
“Hmm? yes?” You ask with a innocent smile.
“Let's try to be quiet and watch the movie ok?”
He offers a gentle smile and nods, pointing towards the TV again and settling to watch it with his beautiful wife.
His very very very unhappy wife. Your eyes haven’t left his, face now downturned in such a scowl, he should be shitting his pants.
You roll your jaw at him once, teeth grinding against one another with slitted, murderous eyes. Joel gulps, too afraid to glance back at you again. His eyes are wide staring at the commotion on the television but, now in your deadly silence, he can’t seen to focus on it at all.
Instead of saying anything, you roll polly up to your feet, arms crossed over your chest defensively as you utter a loud “Hmph!” before storming away from the living room.
He’ll have to deal with groveling tomorrow morning when you might be a little more welcoming. But on the bright side, he’s got way more room to spread out on the couch and he can hear the movie much better now!
.........
He switches it off and runs upstairs to get on his knees by your side of the bed, begging for your forgiveness and promises of a Clyde's milkshake to go.

I did not expect Marian's death to be so atrociously sad 😢😢😢💘 was literally on the verge of bawling and had to hold the tears in, the rest of the show won't be the same without her and her nightwatchman kartwheels
I so did not expect guy to be the one to kill her! I'm actually outraged. He killed her because she didn't want him like c'mon man noooo
Also little John's true meaning behind his wee phrase 'it's a good day to die' that floored me, poor poor man, wasn't expecting that from this show at all
I'm so sad I've only one season left, the more episodes I watch the more I fall in love with Much he truly is just a little dude
I don't know if I want to marry Marion or be her lol
Are you still going to watch season3? Man, you’re getting through these episodes quickly. And, as always, thank you for sharing your thoughts with me.

Lillian Gish in The Wind (Victor Sjöström, 1928)
Cast: Lillian Gish, Lars Hanson, Montagu Love, Dorothy Cumming, Edward Earle, William Orlamond. Screenplay: Frances Marion, based on a novel by Dorothy Scarborough. Cinematography: John Arnold. Art direction: Cedric Gibbons, Edward Withers. Film editing: Conrad A. Nervig.
In the introduction to the 1983 video release of The Wind, produced by David Gill and Kevin Brownlow, Lillian Gish says that she and director Victor Sjöström (credited as "Seastrom" in his Hollywood years) argued for a downer ending to the film in which Letty (Gish), driven mad by the wind after she shoots Roddy (Montagu Love), who has raped her, walks out into the whirling sandstorm to die. But Irving Thalberg, MGM's production head, insisted on the extant "happy ending," worried that their ending would hurt the film at the box office, with audiences already rejecting silent movies after the arrival of sound. It makes a good story, a fable about art vs. commerce. But Gish was not always a terribly reliable source, given to telling stories long on color but short on accuracy. And I have to think that Thalberg was right about the ending of The Wind, not just because of its commercial value, but also because the concluding reconciliation of Letty and Lige (Lars Hanson) feels consistent with the melodramatic story. As the truism goes, drama should make you think, melodrama should make you feel. And in the absence of any real ideas to think about in The Wind, feeling bummed about the bleakness of the ending Gish and Sjöström proposed hardly makes for a satisfactory melodrama. The Wind has been hailed as a masterpiece, which I think it falls just short of being, largely because it becomes a one-woman show for Gish. She is superb, of course, but she's virtually the only character in the film with any dimensions: Roddy is a mustached rotter; Lige is a rural goof with a cornpone sidekick named Sourdough (William Orlamond); Cora (Dorothy Cumming) is a shrew and Beverly (Edward Earle) is a wimp. So we spend the film's 79 minutes watching Gish suffer brilliantly, responding in wholly affecting ways to the hopelessness of her life with a man she doesn't love, the bleakness of the landscape, and the constant torment of the wind. It's Gish as a grownup version of the waif she so often played for D.W. Griffith. But the film needs another substantial character: Hanson is good so far as his role goes, but the screenplay stints on giving Lige a convincing character arc, from goof to spurned husband and finally to romantic hero. It's Letty who does all the heroic stuff, including shooting Roddy and trying to bury his corpse, so the reconciliation at the end, with both of them facing the wind, feels awfully one-sided. We may celebrate this as a tribute to the strong woman, but on the other hand it also feels like the wife submitting to duty to her husband.

Media List 2023
Ok I’m making a list of the things I want to watch/read/have been suggested to me etc before I lose track lol and so people can look if they want to see I guess. I’m putting suggestions on this list too even if I haven’t looked into them very hard and I think it goes without saying that just because it’s on the list doesn’t mean I’ll get to it.
None of these are in any real order, but I’m doing a numbered list so I can use a random number generator if I’m getting decision paralysis. I’m putting where I can personally watch them for reference, they may be available other places that I don’t have a subscription to.

love as agape and eros
Tumblr media
In Wim Wenders’ Wings of Desire (1987), we witness the happenings of the world through the eyes of the invisible, immortal angels Damiel and Cassiel, who are responsible for observing and recording the thoughts and events of human lives as they occur. They are not allowed to interfere in the happenings of anyone’s life, but are able to provide a sense of hope and comfort to those in need of help. For example, upon seeing a dying motorcyclist and hearing the racing intrusive thoughts of regret in his mind, Damiel places his hands on the motorcyclist’s head and ushers in more comforting thoughts as he dies (36:06-37:56). In this way, the angels engage in the practice of affective concern and benevolent love towards strangers that are covered by Julia E. Judish and John P. Reeder’s essays in the article Benevolence, Special Relations and Voluntary Poverty: An Introduction.  The angels’ behaviors also fall in line with Theravada Buddhist traditions of non-attachment and empathetic identification with strangers, as outlined by Donald Swearer’s essay in the same article.  However, over the course of the film, Damiel encounters and subsequently falls in love with a trapeze artist named Marion, which motivates his decision to abandon his immortal life as an angel and become an active participant of the human world. The introduction of Marion into Damiel’s life spurs a sense of attachment to her, shifting Damiel’s benevolence and Agape towards normatively ranked strangers into Eros and personalized love for Marion above other humans. This type of personalized, Erotic love is a fundamental part of the human experience, and is characterized by the film as a fruitful reward for Damiel’s descent from immortality.
The majority of the film is presented in black-and-white images to convey the somewhat bleak and lackluster nature of the angels’ worldview. These images highlight that despite watching and hearing all of the actions and thoughts of humans, there is a lack of genuine understanding of the human experience on the angels’ part. Knowledge of human life is not equivalent to understanding and experiencing human life. Color is used sparsely as a means of imbuing a lively sense of significance and grandeur to the human experience. This serves as a contrasting, transformative experience to the audience when we do witness moments in color, serving to emphasize the richness of human life to us too. In some ways, as an audience this heightens our perspective of our own lives, which could be interpreted as the film’s call to a heightened appreciation of our experiences as humans, particularly the everyday actions that we take for granted.
Due to their inability to interfere, they are unable to become active participants in the human experience. This is something that Damiel seems to covet towards the start of the film, ‘Every time we participated, it was a pretence’ (13:56). This suggests a sense of fatigue on his end with the innumerable occasions where he has been observing and recording rather than actively living the same experiences. On the other hand, Cassiel is sternly motivated to follow his angelic duties, and reminds Damiel of his, ‘Do no more than look. Assemble, testify, preserve’ which is almost like a divine motto of purpose. By contrasting Damiel and Cassiel’s attitudes towards their purpose as immortal angels, the film emphasizes the extent to which the angels are bestowed with free agency to think critically about the world. This serves to imbue them with a sense of individuality, rather than allowing us to assume that all angels think and feel the same way about their purpose. This suggests that the benevolence and Agape extended by the angels towards strangers is a choice to some extent, whereby despite having differing viewpoints on their roles, Damiel and Cassiel choose to remain immortal angels and continue serving their purpose of benevolence at this point in the film. This renders more significance and emotional weight to the character of Damiel, where his resistance to giving into his desire to experience life as a human is admirable to the audience.
Marion’s introduction in the film serves to prime Damiel’s longing to experience life through a human lens. Her characterization as a trapeze artist, where she is suspended mid-air, serves to represent the dilemma between heavenly Agape and earthly Eros that Damiel faces. Her costuming with angelic wings further emphasizes this dilemma and highlights the notion of transcendence that Damiel yearns for. The scene where she is first introduced (24:58-28:26) starts off in black-and-white images, and then transforms into a fully colored set of images, which serves to emphasize the shift in Damiel’s attitude towards human life, particularly his elevated desire to be able to participate in the human experience for the sake of having genuine interactions with Marion. This could also be interpreted as marking the shift from Damiel’s benevolent love and affective concern towards normatively ranked strangers to a more personalized idea of love that does not follow such normative rankings. This is where Damiel’s love begins to shift from Agape to Eros. But alas, the colored images shift back to black-and-white, highlighting the temporary nature of such an alternative, rich human experience for Damiel. Furthermore, this serves to further emphasize the conflict between Damiel’s obligations to his angelic purpose of benevolent love, and his elevated desire to participate in the human experience.
As the film progresses, Damiel continues to observe Marion’s thoughts and activities. He becomes tremendously fascinated with her unique mannerisms and qualities, highlighting the extent to which his love is becoming personalized towards her. The dream he has of him meeting Marion, coupled with the revelations about the human experience that are given to him by Peter Falk, enable him to take the final step towards his decision to descend from immortality. In the article Benevolence, Special Relations and Voluntary Poverty: An Introduction, Reeder and Judish emphasize the benevolence associated with moving from special relations towards affective concern for strangers. This is the complete opposite of what Damiel has chosen to do in the film, yet it is rewarded rather than rebuked. We see this through the continuous use of richly colored and saturated images to depict Damiel’s human experience, as well as through the final scene where Damiel expresses elation for his decision. Damiel is gripping the rope to support Marion as she twirls mid-air. This is an image of entwinement between individuals that is a characteristic property of Eros, and is furthered as he says, ‘Something happens. It is still going on. It binds me.’ Damiel’s sense of commitment and faith in the human experience alongside Marion is apparent here, suggesting that he enjoys his active participation in the human world. The film merits his descent from immortality in this way, emphasizing that Erotic, human love is like no other - ‘The amazement about the two of us, amazement about man and woman, has turned me into a human being. I know now what no angel knows.’

Always Her Doctor, 3/5
John Tyler is a teacher at Farringham, but he’s been dreaming of another life–the life of an adventure known as the Doctor. When Marion Smith appears in Farringham, he’s immediately drawn to her. And why not? Marion Smith is the mirror image of Rose Tyler–the Doctor’s wife.
Reunion set during Human Nature/Family of Blood, with Christmas overtones.
This is part of @doctorroseprompts 31 Days of Ficmas. I used the word “Shiver.” This is part of my personal 31 Days of Ficmas. It’s also a fill for @legendslikestardust‘s general winter themed fics prompt.
Yes, this is now 5 chapters instead of 4. That’s where a big part of my trouble wtih this chapter lay--trying to shove too much into it. Thank you to @lastbluetardis for helping me work my way through it.
AO3 | FF.NET | Ch 1 | Ch 2
For the next two weeks, Rose felt like she was in a fairy tale. John Tyler was very definitely the Doctor, right down to his dislike of pears. But he was the Doctor if he’d forgotten all about his years of tragedy and had the social customs of Edwardian culture superimposed over his personality.
The day after their walk, he came to the library during the slow part of the afternoon and fumbled through a formal request to court her. His determination to be upfront about his intentions was nothing at all like the way she and the Doctor slid into romance without either of them admitting it, but his uncertainty of her acceptance was certainly familiar.
The biggest surprise to Rose was how much she enjoyed being courted by the man who was already her husband. The Doctor had a secret romantic streak that she’d discovered once they were together, and that was definitely evident in John as well. Every morning, he brought her a rose after his first class. Every afternoon after his last class, they bundled up and walked the countryside together, regardless of the weather.
The first time John pressed a kiss to the back of her hand, Rose’s heart started racing. She and the Doctor had shared far more than a simple kiss to the hand, but between the reserved culture and the three years that had passed since the last time they had made love, it felt unbelievably intimate.
It was the second week of December now, and the boys were studying hard for their end of term exams. Rose was too busy to leave the library to walk with John, but after the last boy left, she hurried down the hallway to his study.
She knocked twice, then let herself into the room as he’d instructed. John was straightening papers on his desk when she entered, and he looked up at her over the rim of his glasses.
His left eyebrow arched as he took in her appearance, and Rose reached up and tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear. “Sorry if I’m a little disheveled,” she told him. “I’ve been running my feet off, trying to find all the books the boys need.”
John stood up and gestured at the couch situated in front of his fireplace. Tea service was set out on the coffee table, and Rose’s mouth watered at the sight.
“You look lovely,” he said firmly. “But definitely like you could use a cuppa.”
“Oh, you have no idea,” Rose mumbled as he poured two cups. She placed a scone on a plate and split it open, spreading jam onto it.
“I think two weeks courting you is enough time to learn how dependent you are on tea,” he teased as he added milk to her cup and sugar to his.
Rose chuckled and took her cup. “Oh, you should see me in the morning before I get my first cuppa.”
When John made a strange choking noise and coughed a few times, Rose realised how suggestive that statement sounded in 1913. Her face turned hot and she tried to hide it behind her cup.
“I just meant… I’m useless in the morning before I have a cuppa,” she stammered.
His face was pink, but the corners of his eyes crinkled up when he smiled. “I doubt you’re useless, but maybe one day I’ll have a chance to find out for myself.”
The Doctor’s cheek and teasing smile paired with John’s reserve sorely tempted Rose to throw herself into his arms, and she looked quickly around the room for something to distract her. Her gaze landed on a slim leather-bound book sitting on the table.
“What’s that?” she asked, pointing at it.
To her surprise, John’s blush spread down his neck. “That’s… Well…” He tugged on his tie, then set his cup down and picked up the book. “I told you about my dreams, if you’ll remember.”
“A little bit,” Rose agreed. “About living another life, travelling through space?”
John tapped his fingers against the cover. “Time and space,” he corrected absently. “I suppose I didn’t mention that I also travel in time.”
Rose swallowed back a lump in her throat. “No, I think I would have remembered that,” she said, her voice soft with memories.
“Well… I’ve written some of my dreams down, in here.” He opened the book and started flipping through the pages. “I don’t know if you’re interested…” He found what he was looking for and marked the spot with a scrap of paper.
The uncertain expression on his face tugged at Rose’s heart. “I alway want to hear your stories, John,” she said sincerely. Whether he was John Tyler or the Doctor, she loved to listen to him talk about the places he’d been.
John’s ears turned red, and he rubbed at the back of his neck before handing her the journal. “Only the section I marked though,” he insisted before he let go of it.
“Of course,” she promised, and he finally let her have it.
Rose looked at the cover and traced over the title first. “A Journal of Impossible Things,” she read aloud. Then she flipped the slim volume open to the place John had indicated, about halfway through. She caught a fleeting glimpse of the earlier pages in the book and realised most of them were filled with sketches of her. Ah, no wonder he was so adamant that I not look through the rest of his journal.
When she reached the page he’d marked, there was a sketch of a young boy in a gas mask on one side, and the words “Everybody lives!” written in bold letters on the facing page. In the Doctor’s familiar scrawl, she read the story about the mysterious gold dust that was able to turn humans into monsters.
No mention of Captain Jack, she noticed wryly. She had to stifle a giggle—it would be impossible to explain to John that she was amused by her husband’s selective memory.
“So the gold dust saved them all in the end?” she asked when she got to the last few words of the story.
John nodded. “Everybody lives. Those are the best days…” He loved the smile on Marion’s face. “I sometimes think how magical life would be if stories like this were true.”
Marion hummed in agreement. “Other planets, and miraculous gold dust that can heal all wounds? It sounds like a fairy tale.” She smiled up at him. “I think I’d like to live in that world, though.”
John beamed at her. Of course Marion understood his dreams—she understood him, better than anyone else in the universe. The words were on the tip of his tongue, but he bit them back. It was still much too soon to go confessing his love.
He cleared his throat and gestured at the journal. “The Doctor has a good life. Flying through time and space, seeing the universe, helping people along the way… There’s a bit of trouble now and then of course, but it always works out in the end.”
“Oh, I think trouble is just the bits in between,” Marion countered.
She handed the journal back to John before he could recover from once again hearing her repeat words straight out of his dream. He tried so hard to keep Rose and Marion separate in his mind, and moment like this made it almost impossible.
“John?”
He blinked and realised that Rose—no, Marion—had stood up. “Hmmm?”
“It’s time for supper. Are you going down?”
John looked at the clock on the mantel. Somehow, it was already six o’clock. “Ah. Yes, of course.” Marion waited while he pulled his suit coat on, then they walked down to the dining room together.
“So tomorrow I was thinking we could take a walk in the evening, after dinner,” John said. “There’s a meteor shower happening right now, and I’d love to look at the stars with you.”
There was a long pause before Marion answered, and her voice sounded strained when she spoke. “I would love that, John.” She smiled at him as they started down the stairs.
On the landing, a large, red invitation pinned to the bulletin board caught John’s eye. His eyes widened when he realised he’d forgotten to do one very important thing. “The village Christmas dance is the day after tomorrow.”
“Mm-hmm,” Marion agreed.
“Would you… That is, I had hoped you would go with me. But it just occurred to me that I never asked.” He rubbed at his neck and tried to avoid Marion’s gaze.
To his surprise, instead of answering, she giggled. “Oh, John,” she said fondly when he looked up at her. “I suppose you should have asked, but I’d already assumed we were going together.”
Relief swept through him. “You had?”
She nodded, then the tip of her tongue peeked out from behind her teeth as she gave him a cheeky smile. “I even have a new dress, just for the occasion.”
oOoOo
The chill December wind cut through Rose’s coat as she crept across the frozen field to the TARDIS. The sun wouldn’t rise for more than an hour yet, and even when it came up, it wouldn’t offer much warmth.
The TARDIS wasn’t much warmer, but she was warm enough for Rose’s cheeks to thaw. She knew it was risky, coming to visit the ship when they were supposed to be hiding, but she couldn’t leave the old girl alone.
Rose pulled off her glove and rested her bare hand on a strut. Hello, dear. She waited, and a moment later, she got the softest hum in reply. Just two more weeks, then we’ll be home. Oh, I’ve missed you.
She didn’t linger long. If her presence was missed at the school, it would be hard to explain where she’d been. But two weeks living under an alias had put a strain on her, and she just needed a moment to be Rose Tyler with someone who really knew her.
The ship’s hum echoed in her mind, surrounding her like a hug. Then it seemed to urge her to the door. Go, Wolf. You’ll be home soon.
After leaving, Rose patted the blue wooden door one last time, then set out through the misty grey dawn to go back to her made-up life.
oOoOo
John whistled Christmas carols as he left the library. He’d given Marion her rose, and this morning, she’d given him a book in exchange. A complete history of Cardiff hadn’t struck him as a very interesting topic, but her warm brown eyes had sparkled when she handed it to him.
“You should read over the section about the Christmas disaster,” she’d told him, indicating the page she’d marked.
Then she’d looked around, and after seeing they were alone, she’d risen up on her toes and pressed a quick kiss to his cheek. When John had put his hand to the spot and looked at her in astonishment, she blushed prettily.
“I just want you to know,” she’d whispered. “I’m so glad I met you.” She’d bitten her lip, then quickly added, “This you, now.”
A group of boys had entered the library before he could reply. He wanted to know what she’d meant by the last, cryptic remark, but she hurried over to help the pupils, and he’d waved to her and left without a word.
The door to his study was ajar when he arrived, and he greeted Martha absently as he entered the room.
“What do you have there, sir?” she asked as she dusted the mantel. She seemed to spend a lot of time dusting that particular location, but perhaps there was something about it that collected dust.
John sat down in front of the fireplace and flipped the book open to the chapter Rose had marked for him. “A book on the history of Cardiff,” he said as he skimmed the chapter on the Christmas disaster.
“Of Cardiff?” Martha turned quickly, her duster waving in the air as she moved.
John looked at up at her, and he had to bite back a smile at the disdain on her face. “Yes, Cardiff,” he replied calmly. “Marion wanted me to read about the Christmas explosion in 1869.”
“Yeah, of course she did.” Martha put her hands on her hips and glanced around the room. “Well, I think I’m done, Mr. Tyler. Will you be taking tea alone today, or shall I bring up a tray for two like I did yesterday?”
“Just me today, Martha. Thank you.” John flipped the book back open and settled in to read.
oOoOo
“Oh, it is freezing out here!” Martha exclaimed as she carried hers and Jenny’s drinks back outside. “Why can’t we have a drink inside the pub?” She’d been looking forward to this night out, but she’d forgotten that they wouldn’t be sitting inside, warmed by the pub’s cheery fire.
Jenny laughed and shook her head. “Now, don’t be ridiculous,” she admonished.
“I’m not being ridiculous,” Martha said hotly. Normally she’d try to stay quiet, but the daily reminders of how much the Doctor loved Rose Tyler were getting under her skin. She just couldn’t stand to be condescended to, not even by her friend. “We don’t deserve to be treated like this, Jenny. We’re people, just like those men.”
Jenny narrowed her eyes, and Martha had the uncomfortable sensation that she was being studied. A gust of wind swept through the garden and an owl hooted in the background while Martha waited for Jenny to say something.
Finally, Jenny said, “I think I know what’s really upsetting you, and it isn’t sitting out in the cold.”
Martha shifted on the rough wooden bench and pulled her coat tighter around herself. “Because that’s not enough?”
Jenny shook her head. “You’ve been upset for at least a week now… but I think it’s more like two weeks, ever since Miss Smith arrived.”
Martha could feel her face grow hot, and she took a drink of her beer to hide her red cheeks.
“See, I knew it.” Jenny leaned back and crossed her arms over her chest, a smirk on her face. “You tried to say you only cared about Mr. Tyler because he was kind to you, but I knew there was more to it than that.”
“No, I just…” Martha sighed and looked up at the sky. “I just want to go home,” she whispered.
It was the first time she’d admitted it to herself. Travelling with the Doctor was never supposed to be a permanent arrangement, not for her. She had a life back in her own time, a life where she didn’t constantly feel like second best.
Plus, the longer I’m away the harder it will be to pass my exams, she reminded herself.
A green light pulsed in the sky, and Martha straightened up, all thoughts of the Doctor and Rose and what would happen when they left 1913 forgotten.
“Did you see that?”
Jenny looked up at the sky, then back at Martha. “See what?”
The light had faded, but Martha knew what she’d seen. It had looked just like all those supposedly faked pictures of people spotting alien landings.
She got to her feet, still staring at the sky. “Did you see it, though? Right up there, just for a second.”
“Martha, there’s nothing there.”
Familiar voices drifted towards them, coming down the road in the direction of the school. Martha narrowed her eyes and peered into the darkness, and she wasn’t surprised when Mr. Tyler and Rose came around a bend in the road.
“It was a light, John, a bright green light,” Rose insisted. She spotted Martha and pointed at the sky. “Did you see it, Martha?”
Martha nodded. Mr. Tyler sighed in amused exasperation, but the four of them all looked up at the sky, waiting for another sign that Martha and Rose weren’t just seeing something.
Their patience was rewarded a moment later when a streak of light crossed the horizon. Jenny gasped. “Oh, that’s beautiful.”
Rose turned to Mr. Tyler, tugging gently on his arm. “There, you see,” she said, and Martha suspected she was the only one who could hear the urgency under her teasing voice. “I wasn’t imagining things, John.”
Mr. Tyler smiled at her. “I never said you were, Marion. Just that it couldn’t possibly be aliens like the Doctor encounters.” He winked at her, then looked at all three women. “It was a meteor,” he explained. “Just rocks falling to the ground, that’s all.”
Martha and Rose exchanged a glance, then Rose looked back at the sky. “It looked like it came down in the woods,” she said. “That’s the direction it was going, at least.”
Mr. Tyler shook his head. “No, no, no. No, they always look close, when actually they’re miles off. Nothing left but a cinder.”
Rose pursed her lips. She couldn’t explain it, but she knew that hadn’t been just a meteor. And while it could be a coincidence that aliens had just landed close to where the Doctor was hiding, she wouldn’t bet on it.
Years of Torchwood training came to the fore, and the only thing that kept her from haring across the fields to check it out was the certainty that John would follow her if she did. If the Family had found them, the last thing she wanted to do was lead him straight to them.
She shivered at the thought. John must have felt it, because a moment later, he dropped her hand and draped his own scarf around her neck. “You’re shivering, darling,” he murmured, forgetting their audience for a moment. “I should get you back to the school.”
He stepped back and turned slightly to address Martha and Jenny. “Would either of you ladies like an escort back?”
Martha shook her head. “No, we’re fine, thanks.”
Rose raised her eyebrows, and Martha gave a very small nod. The knot of tension between her shoulder blades eased. If she couldn’t be the one to explore the impact site, having Martha go was the next best option.
John tipped his hat to Martha and Jenny. “Then we shall bid you goodnight.”
The walk back to the school was mostly silent. It had gotten too cold to talk comfortably, but beyond that, Rose’s mind was completely focused on the possibility that they’d been discovered. She was drawing up escape plans in her mind, going over possible contingencies and evaluating the danger of each to civilian life.
They were almost to the gates when John pulled her to a stop. “I said I wanted to show you the stars,” he said softly when Rose looked up at him. “This isn’t the vantage point I had in mind, but it will do.”
He leaned against the stone wall and pulled her close, wrapping his arms around her waist and resting his cheek against her temple. Rose closed her eyes and took a deep breath. John didn’t smell exactly like the Doctor—there was a faint scent of paper and ink clinging to him after days spent writing and grading papers—but under everything else, there was still something familiar about the way he smelled.
“Look, Marion.” John raised an arm and pointed across the open field. Hundreds of stars glittered on the inky expanse. “Can you imagine being out there, walking across alien worlds?”
A meteor shot across the sky before Rose could answer. She rested her hands on top of John’s and squeezed. “Make a wish,” she whispered.
He sighed, and a moment later, she felt his lips brush against her temple. The bond flared in response to the contact, and they both sucked in a breath.
“I already have what I wished for,” John said, his voice husky. “Marion…”
She turned and put her hands on his chest, over where his hearts would be if he weren’t human. “Yes, John.”
“Is it too early… Two weeks isn’t long enough…”
Rose’s breath caught in her throat when she realised what he was trying to say. “Maybe not for some people, but I was looking for you for so long…”
A shaft of moonlight illuminated John’s face, and she could see the wonder in his eyes. “I dreamt about you,” he admitted. “You’re there, in the Doctor’s life. No, you are the Doctor’s life. And then… you were gone, and he was lost.”
Rose pressed her lips together to hold back a sob. She didn’t know exactly which memories of their life together had seeped through into John’s dreams, but she knew the pain of that separation all too well.
He lifted his hand and a moment later, his cool glove touched her cheek as he brushed a strand of hair back over her ear. “In two weeks, you’ve become just as important to me as Rose is to the Doctor. You… you understand me, Marion. You know the things about me that I’ve never told anyone. And I…”
He closed his eyes and Rose held her breath, waiting. When he opened them, the tenderness in his gaze was so familiar that she ached. And she’d seen it recently, she realised. She’d seen it last week, when he’d helped her over a log blocking the road. Two days ago, when he’d handed her a deep red rose. And tonight, when he’d tied an extra scarf around her neck.
“And you?” she prompted. Her hands crept up over his shoulders to link loosely behind his neck.
He reached up and cupped her face between his hands. “And I love you.”
The words obviously came more easily to John than they had the Doctor, but everything else about the moment was familiar. They’d been alone then, too, staring up at the stars being pulled into a black hole. And in the quietness, he’d whispered those words so softly that Rose almost hadn’t believed her ears.
She whispered his name and repeated the words, just like she had on Krop Tor. And just like that night, he leaned down and pressed his lips to hers.

If you're feeling up to writing a bit of Mikey, could I please request him being an asshat to everyone and being told off by his S/O after he asks Jack if he wants to earn a dollar?
(You know the part where he says to ask Arthur about the stick up his butt?)
He's such a dickhead and I find myself telling the screen off when he does it! 😂
OR
His S/O giving him a slap and a bollocking after he kicks Cain, then they fuss over Cain and force Micah to make friends with him.
I dunno, it's up to you 😂 You could write any scenario you want, I'll still love it 😘😘
i am always up to writing for a bit of mikey (that nickname is so cute) but ngl i had no idea how to write this or put this together. I watched the clips again so i could get it accurate but i changed it bc i didn't know if u wanted a happy ending or not but i hope i delivered <33 also u asked for either and i gave u both :)

------------------------
Clemens Point was a strange place with even stranger people. After leaving valentine in a hurry it seems the entire gang was on edge and ready to blow like a stick of dynamite. It seems having to act like upstanding heartfelt citizens to the Grays and the Braithwaites has meant everyone is that aggravated and pent up.
On more than one occasion you’d seen Sadie lose it when Pearson got to pushy with chores and it seems Abigail and John couldn’t stand to have a normal conversation for five minutes before one of them broke. It wasn’t much better with Dutch and Hosea who were constantly disagreeing on the right moves for the gang, although they were much more civil about it.
You did your best to keep out of everyone’s way, to avoid the confrontation but knowing your luck you’d end up getting involved one way or another.
You were returning to camp one sweltering hot afternoon with Sadie after you finished collecting the gang’s weekly stock from the general store. You were only half listening to the hustle around the camp as you were too busy listening to Sadie tell you all about Pearson’s dear aunt Cathy. You stepped off the wagon and headed to the back to start unloading some of the supplies when the sound of Micah’s voice could be heard talking to Jack.
“How’d ya like to earn a dollar?”
His voice with thick with malice as he hunched over the wooden table. In Micah’s hands was a silver nickel that he fiddled with between his fingers, much like you’d seen of him do with his knife. Your eyes found Jack who was almost reluctant to get anywhere near the man who you knew scared him. However, being the innocent child that he was his eyes lit up at the sight of something shiny.
“A dollar? Sure.”
You carried the heavy bag of potatoes over to Pearson’s wagon as you went back for another round of supplies but you kept the boy in the corner of your eye.
“Well…go on up to old Arthur Morgan, ask him about the pole he’s got stuck up his ass and I’ll give ya a dollar.”
Micah’s face lit up in a smirk, his accent thick and his typical evil giggle falling from his mouth. He sat back on the chair, satisfied at the mischief he’s caused.
Before you could get anywhere Jack had run off to where Arthur was sitting in his tent, reading over a letter. You placed another round of ammunition into Strauss’ wagon, dropping it hastily and running as you saw Arthur walk right up to Micah with a murderous look in his eye.
“I’ll give you a dollar if you shut your—“
Arthur didn’t get to finish his insult before you stepped in front of him with a soft hand on his shoulder. You gave him a soft smile and a nod, quietly saying to your dear friend that you’d handle this.
With that you turned with your own look of anger directed to Micah. Everyone knew you loved him but they also knew you didn’t hesitate to call him out and get him to behave when you had to.
“Micah leave the damn boy alone!”
He scoffed like he wasn’t offended you didn’t defend him and instead chose to call him out. Micah’s hands came up in his signal of fake defeat as he slowly backed away from his place at the table, acting as if he was nothing more than the innocent bystander and not the one who nearly ended up on the ground with a broken nose for starting it.
You watched as Micah lingered around the edge of the camp, his eyes trained to yours as he lit a cigarette but you ignored him. Instead you walked over to Jack, smiling softly and taking his hand to lead him to the river’s edge.
“Common, why don’t we go see if we can find any beautiful rock on the sand, hmm? I’m sure your mother would love such a beautiful gift.”
-
Of course, it wasn’t more than a few days later when you ran into trouble again with Micah. You’d spent your time ignoring him mostly, instead choosing to go hunting with Charles and Arthur, practice your throwing knives with Javier and help teach Jack to read. You knew how badly it pissed Micah off to do things without him but he needed to understand that there was a way to treat people, especially with people you considered family.
You rolled up your sleeves, using your forearm to wipe the sweat from your forehead as you picked up the knife and started cutting carrots and potatoes for tonights stew.
“Are you a good boy? Yes you are! The best boy”
Your head came up to notice bill sitting against the log by the campfire, scratching under Cain’s chin and giving the energetic dog pats along the back. You couldn’t help but smile at the new addition to the gang and how happy it made you to see Bill less stressed. It seemed that having Cain made everyone feel more caring and loving.
All except Micah.
“You’re the fool that feed’s him Marion. He ain’t nothing more than a filthy mongrel and an extra mouth to feed.”
Micah had stood from his place on the opposite side of the campfire to antagonise Bill. A frustrated noise leaves you as you slam the knife down on the wooden bench, ready to storm over there and chew Micah’s ear off. You take a step forward only for Miss Grimshaw, who was working next to you, to grab your arm and stop you before you get any further.
“There is a time and a place dear, don’t make it worse.”
Of course you knew Susan was just trying to keep another argument from happening but you push past her when you see Micah inching towards Cain who had left his spot at Bill’s feet to hide by a wagon. In a split second decision you pick the knife you’re cooking with and use it like a throwing knife to get his attention. The knife swings through the air, not getting near anyone, it wasn’t like you actually wanted to stab Micah no matter how badly he could get on your nerves and watched as it got wedged into the tree behind him.
Micah’s head shot up, his foot moving away from Cain and stared dumbfounded and shocked, unused to seeing you so skilfully throw a knife but your practices paid off. You walked right into his personal space, taping your finger against his chest.
“Don’t. You. Dare”
Micah’s first response was to try and sweet-talk his way out of it like he always does but you were in no mood to deal with his slyness.
“Dare to do what sweetheart? Common now… weren’t gonna do nothin—“
Your hand came to give Micah a crisp slap across the cheek, apart of you was shocked that you’d even do such a thing but the other half of you was furious.
“Don’t underestimate for a minute that I won’t dump you right now and throw you out of camp Micah. I’m not some stranger you can sweet-talk when you get in trouble. I swear, if I see you go anywhere near Cain the knife isn’t going to hit the tree next time.”
Micah’s eyebrows shoot up in shock as you lecture him in front of almost the entire gang. Even Dutch put his book down when he heard your slap. He was lost for words, truely, having now other thought as he watched you walk away back to preparing tonights stew. He didn’t move from his place until he heard you whistle for Cain to sit by your feet, where he went and meandered off into the forest to give you space. All he knew was that he must have fucked up bad if you threatened to leave him.
-
A few hours later you’d managed to calm down, watching the sunset after Ms Grimshaw gave you the rest of the night off to relax at how pent up you were. Now sitting here you couldn’t help but feel like you may have over reacted but Micah had pushed your buttons one too many times and if Micah was going to listen to anyone it would be you. You let out a soft but hearty sigh as the tension and stress from your shoulders left with your breath. Your body relaxed against the tree and you watched the sun gently dip below the horizon.
It was well and truely dark before you heard the rustling of grass and the thud of someone sitting next to you. You thought it may have been Arthur coming to check on you but that thought died when arms wrapped around your waist and you felt Micah rest his chin on your shoulder, his stringy hair tickling your face at the gentle breeze.
“…M’ sorry…”
A very quiet and forced apology was pulled from Micah as he cuddled into you, mumbling it into your shoulder at the pain of actually having to apologise.
“Sorry won’t cut it Micah. You have to stop treating people that I care about— people that are family better.”
Micah sighs, the defeated, tired one that shows he’s willing to listen because no matter how badly he stirs up trouble, the thought of losing you is enough to have him turn his mind around.
“I know…gonna make it up to ya I promise.”
A soft and very cautious kiss is placed on your shoulder with Micah knowing he’s still not forgiven by you yet.
“You’re damn well gonna make it up to me. Firstly you’re apologising to Jack first thing tomorrow and secondly you need to pull your weight for this gang— and no I’m not talking about robbing another coach. To start you can sit on guard duty with me and you can wash my clothes.”
“I’ll just buy you new clothes”
You give Micah a death glare as you tilt your head to look at him. Instantly his teasing smirk leaves and his arms come to wrap tighter around your body, resting his hands on your stomach and intertwining your fingers.
“Alright, alright… guard duty ain’t so bad.”
You sit together for a while in a comfortable silence. All the energy from today had left you and you no longer had it in you to keep arguing. You’d hold Micah to his promise to do better but for now you leant back into his embrace and rested your head against his.
“Can I at least sleep in the tent tonight?”
You smiled softly as you hummed in contemplation just to tease him. Micah hadn’t come to sleep in your shared tent since the day he messed with Jack and both of you had missed each other despite the frustration and anger you had.
“Hmm, we’ll see.”
Micah thinks you’ve said no, panicking internally but is stopped when you turn your head and place a soft kiss to his cheek over the mark from where you’d slapped him not so long ago. It wasn’t the kiss that he wanted but he still needed to make it up to you before you gave him what he wanted.
You reached a soft hand up behind you, cradling his head and rubbing your thumb over his sore cheek.
“Is your cheek okay?”
Micah let out a gravelly noise, deep from his chest as he leaned into your hand.
“Ain’t gotta worry sweetheart, I’ve survived much worse”
You don’t get to reply when a tentative and cautious Cain makes his way over to the two of you. You pat your leg and he curls up beside you with his head resting on your leg and his tail thumbing, relaxed and happy.
Micah on the other hand was not relaxed or happy as he tensed up and moved away from the dog and you. If it wasn’t for your hand holding the back of his head he probably would’ve jumped away.
“Micah Cain isn’t going to hurt you, he just wants attention like you. See? No need to be afraid.”
To prove your point you reach a hand out and gently brush over his short, grey fur, watching as he perks up.
“I ain’t afraid!”
You would’ve believed him if you didn’t catch the waver in his voice but you knew. You knew after seeing him be spooked by the animal more than once around camp.
The hand that was still intertwined with his gently guided his hand pat Cain, letting him slowly get comfortable to him.
It took some time but finally Micah had gotten used to Cain enough to realise he was clearly not a threat. At some point Cain had moved over to Micah’s side, resting beside him as the night became later.
A yawn left you and you slowly sank into Micah’s embrace, your eyelids falling shut as you dozed, clearly exhausted.
Holding Micah to his promise was a job for tomorrow, but for now you let yourself fall asleep in his arms, the tent be damned.

Game Idea: Assassin’s Creed Avalon
I don’t know if this matches up with current AC Lore (I stopped paying attention after Black Flag and I only got interested in Odyssey because I simp for Kassandra) and I don’t particularly care if it does but here’s my idea anyway.
Summary: The year is 1200, King John sits upon the throne. Young Lord Robert Harold of Nottinghamshire stumbles upon a black plot by the King and his inner circle to harness the ancient powers of King Arthur and his Knights and take over the world in the name of the Templar Order. Framed by the King and the Sheriff of Nottinghamshire for the murder of his own father, young Robert flees into hiding and must embrace his heritage as a man of the Assassin Order and take his place in history as the legendary Robin Hood.
-
Main Story: Centuries ago, the Old One known as Odin, under the guise of the Wizard Myyrdin, taught King Arthur and his Knights the abilities and powers of ancient technologies, most famously the sword Excalibur. Using this, Arthur built the kingdom of Avalon and it’s capitol city Camelot. However, Arthur was wise and refused to conquer any who did not wish for his rule. Eventually, Arthur and his Knights vanished into legend, and now King John seeks to use the powers of Ancient Avalon to conquer the world in England’s name.
Young Lord Robert Harold stumbles upon this plot when he hears his father refuse to give up an ancient clue to Avalon's location. Robert’s father is murdered and he entrusts the clue to Robert. The young Lord flees along with his closest friends and his beloved Marian and is declared an outlaw by the King, framed for the murder of his own father.
Now going by Robin, the outlaw lord is guided by Friar Tuck, secretly Odin/Myyrdin in disguise, as he seeks a way to both unseat the tyrant king and find ancient Avalon before John can use it’s power for his own nefarious purposes. Eventually, Robin’s journey takes him to Camelot itself, where he finds the knights entombed and the legendary sword Excalibur itself.
It is there, in that Ancient tomb, that Robin faces off against the corrupt Sheriff who murdered his father and framed him for the crime. Ultimately Robin triumphs, slaying the Sheriff and sealing Avalon away by sinking it into the sea, placing Arthur and his Knights into nothing but myth once more. Robin swears he will eternally fight against the tyranny of the Templars as an Assassin and seals the oath by casting Excalibur back into the sea where it falls to rest up to it’s hilt in the stone.
-
Gameplay: A move away from the action RPG style of later AC games, Avalon would hearken back to the series’ stealth roots. Taking down armored knights requires a clever mind as much as a sharp sword after all. Swapping the white robes of old Assassin’s for green and brown, Robin can blend in with both the trees and the crowds.
Robin’s primary weapons are his bow and quarterstaff, as well as a hidden blade, inherited from his father. These weapons can be enhanced or customized by smiths, fletchers, and carpenters. Robin also has a sword which, unknown to him, is Arondight, the sword of Lancelot, passed down through his family line.
-
Character:
Robert Harold a.k.a: Robin Hood: The son of the Lord of Nottinghamshire, Robert was a timid and shy boy, born of an English father and a Welsh mother. Forced to emerge from his shell when his father is murdered, Robert adopts the name of Robin when he flees from Nottinghamshire to the forests of Sherwood alongside his dear friend John Little, his mentor Friar Tuck, and his betrothed Marian. Within Sherwood, Robin would found his own society of rebel bandits against the king, fighting for the freedom of the people and answers to the ancient mysteries of Avalon.
John Little a.k.a Little John: Named John Little and called Liitle John as a joke, he is a mountain of a man with the heart of a Saint. Irish by birth, John is the soul of the Merry Men, laughing and joking and keeping morale up even as he remains Robin’s greatest ally and staunchest supporter. Robin may command the Merry Men, but it’s John who leads them.
Odin a.k.a Myyrdin a.k.a Merlin a.k.a Friar Tuck: An Old One, Friar Tuck is merely his latest name and guise. Odin has guided the footsteps of mortals for generations, seeking those who will rise to greatness and giving them a shove in the right direction. He instructed Arthur and now he aids Robin in carving his place in history as a legend. He has watched the Assassin Order from afar for many years, but has only recently become involved in their affairs.
Marion Wallace a.k.a Maid Marion: Robin’s beloved since childhood, Marion is a capable woman and a fierce fighter. Scottish by birth, she is a fiery creature who challenges Robin and his conceptions about the world. she frequently acts as a spy for the Merry Men, disguising herself as a helpless and swooning waif to trick their enemies into revealing their plans and secrets to her. She loves Robin deeply and frequently brings him down to Earth, reminding him to fight for the little guy and not get too absorbed in his hunt for Avalon.
William Wendall a.k.a the Sheriff of Nottinghamshire: A cunning and ambitious man William is a toady for King John and an enemy of Robin. Appointed as Steward of Nottinghamshire after helping the King frame Robin for the murder of the previous Lord, he rules with an iron fist over the land. He was originally a ward of the previous Lord and a childhood friend to Robin. That is how he found out about the ancient clue to Avalon and told King John of it.

Western August I: Stagecoach (1939) - Recap and Review
Let’s start at the beginning...almost,
Tumblr media
The Western arguably was born with the 1903 film, The Great Train Robbery. This 12-minute short film is a classic, and one of the earliest achievements in film-making. It’s also, unsurprisingly, a Western, and based on an actual train robbery. At the time it was made, the Wild West had only really ended a few years prior, with its heyday being about 40 years past. Which, yeah, is CRAZY. People who remembered the Wild West lived into the 1950s and ‘60s. It seems like so long ago, and it was, but it was still relatively recent from a historical standpoint.
From then, the Western remained a staple of cinema, and would be so for over half a century. And then, enter John Ford. Born in 1894, the Irish American director began his career in 1914 as an assistant and handyman, often working with his older brother Francis. Eventually, John took his place as a director, starting with silent films, especially westerns. Starting with the very successful film The Iron Horse in 1924, he quickly rose to stardom. He transitioned from silent films to talkies pretty effortlessly, and continued his streak. All the while, he was also one of the first directors to have a roster of actors in his company. You know how Tim Burton always uses Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter? Or how the Coen Brothers always use Frances McDormand and John Goodman? Or Wes Andersen with Bill Murray and Owen Wilson? Yeah, that started with John Ford and...ugh...
Tumblr media
Before I start...fuck John Wayne.
Dude was a racist homophobic asshole, and absolutely a dick. Look it up, or don’t if you’d rather not have one of cinemas most iconic faces completely ruined for you. But OK, outside of that one time that he said that the Native Americans were “selfishly trying to keep the land for themselves”, or that he believed in white supremacy over uneducated blacks...yeah, he’s a DICK...
Marion Robert Morrison was born in Iowa in 1907, and began his film career after becoming injured while surfing without a surfboard and ending his football career. Yes, really. His football coach was a friend of a film director named John Ford, who hired Morrison as a favor to him. Said football coach was also friends with an actual remnant of the Old West: WYATT FUCKING EARP. YEAH.
Tumblr media
For years, Morrison was a bit player until starring in the film The Big Trail in 1930, a Western directed by Raoul Walsh. And he wasn’t exactly famous after this, but it was with this film that he took up a screen name: John Wayne, after a Revolutionary War general, Anthony Wayne, and...well, the name John. Anthony sounded too Italian. Yes, really. After this movie, Wayne continued to star in more Westerns, and even became one of the first film cowboys to sing on camera.
And then, 1939 came along, and John Ford came to him with a new film project. Being a classic Western, the film was about a group of settlers riding on a stagecoach together through the West. Strangers to each other, they find themselves attacked by a group of Native Americans belonging to the Apache tribes. This film, an adaptation of a 1939 short story, would come to be known as Stagecoach. And it would launch Ford, Wayne, and the Western genre into a Golden Age. So no more navel-gazing, let’s get started!
SPOILERS AHEAD!!!
Recap
Tumblr media
I get reminded that I haven’t watched a Criterion Collection film in a while, and the film begins with a rousing Western theme, courtesy of...holy shit, this movie has SEVEN COMPOSERS? Well, OK, courtesy of somebody in that list of seven. From there, we cut to a camp somewhere in the Arizona Territory in 1880. Which, again, is only 60 years prior to this film’s release date. There, a group of men discuss the danger imposed on them by the Apache, stirred up by the legendary warrior Geronimo.
And from there, we go to the town of Tonto, where stagecoach driver Buck (Andy Devine) lets a group of passengers out. One of these passengers is Lucy Mallory (Louise Platt), there to catch another shuttle to meet her husband in Dry Fork, New Mexico. However, the stagecoach gains an extra passenger in the form of the Marshal, Curley Wilcox (George Bancroft), who goes to find an outlaw also in Lordsburg.
Tumblr media
The passenger list builds with the addition of Doc Boone (Thomas Mitchell) and Dallas (Claire Trevor), a drunk and a prostitute both driven out of town by the Law and Order League of Women, due to social stigma affecting them both. In a bar getting a farewell drink, Doc meets yet one more passenger, Samuel Peacock (Donald Meek), a whiskey salesman that Doc is glad to meet. Meanwhile, banker Henry Gatewood (Berton Churchill) also boards the vehicle, under mysterious circumstances.
Friends of Lucy are worried with her travelling a drunk and a prostitute (the ABSOLUTE SCANDAL), but she needs to visit her husband in Dry Fork. As she leaves, she meets eyes with the dangerous but enigmatic gambler Hatfield (John Carradine). And before they’re able to leave altogether, the carriage is stopped by the army, who warn them of the Apache and Geronimo. All of the passengers refuse to get off, and YET TWO MORE passengers board to protect the carriage: the Marshal and Hatfield. And finally, they’re off! But as they head out, they’re stopped when they encounter a recently escaped outlaw.
Tumblr media
This is The Ringo Kid (John Wayne), who just got out of prison. The Marshal sees him, and takes him into custody on the way to Lordsburg, where they plan to drop him off into jail. And yes, he’s put on the fucking stagecoach. In total, we have Buck, the Marshal, Lucy, Hatfield, Doc, Peacock, Gatewood, and the Ringo Kid. Jesus, that’s a crowded-ass carriage, even if two of them are outside of it. Hell, Ringo’s sitting on the fuckin’ floor!
Anyway, the group interacts and introduces themselves. We learn that Doc once patched up Ringo’s brother, and was discharged from the Union Army for drunkenness. We learn that Hatfield is a true southern gentleman, and a veteran of the Confederate army (much to Doc’s ire), and that Ringo’s brother was murdered under mysterious circumstances.
Tumblr media
The group gets to Dry Forks, currently under occupation by the army. Said army had accompanied them (outside of the carriage, thank God) to Dry Forks, and are staying there to guard against the Apache. Meanwhile, Lucy’s dismayed to find that her husband isn’t in fact there. This leads to the debate of whether or not the party should go back to Tonto, or head onwards to Lordsburg. Buck wants to go back to Tonto, as does Peacock, while literally everybody else wants to go to Lordsburg. And so, they continue onwards.
Before heading onwards, the group sits for dinner, during which Ringo is the only one to show any form of kindness to Dallas, as everybody else looks down on her for prostitution. Shit, man, they won’t even sit near her at the table. Jesus. Unfortunately, Dallas is used to this cruel treatment, and it allows her to bond with Ringo in her loneliness. Once again, character interactions reveal things about our cast. Lucy is feeling quite ill, and Hatfield reveals that he served under her father in the Confederate Army.
Tumblr media
And from there, the coach continues on through the desert. Buck and the Marshal argue about letting Ringo free, as he aims to continue his feud with the outlaw Luke Plummer and his brothers, despite the fact that he’ll likely be killed by them. It’s for this reason that the Marshal wants to keep Ringo in his custody, as he was good friends with his father and doesn’t want to see him killed by the dangerous Plummers, whom Buck thinks should be taken down regardless.
Inside the coach, the banker reveals that he’s literally a Republican from 2016 (he rants about small government, and claims that a businessman should be President, holy shit), while people keep treating Dallas like shit, except for Ringo. They go through a cold mountain pass, which isn’t great for Lucy for some reason. It’s actually quite rough on everyone. Except for Doc Boone, who keeps drinking Peacock’s whiskey samples, which is hilarious.
Tumblr media
Finally, the group makes it to the next stop, Apache Wells. There, Lucy discovers that her husband has been severely wounded in a battle with the Apache, and she falls faint. Despite being absolutely SMASHED, Doc sobers up to help her, with the help of Ringo and the Marshal. Meanwhile, Dallas watches over her, despite the rancor that Lucy’s tossed at her this whole time.
The group stays the night, attended to by Chris (Chris Pin-Martin) a Mexican man who’s married to Yakima (Elvira Rios), an Apache woman who...is played by a Mexican singer. Huh. I mean...it’s still technically redface, unfortunately. But then again, the attitude towards Native American actors at this time was...oh boy. And the portrayal of the Mexicans in the camp aren’t exactly great, as a group of them steal the group’s spare horses, meaning that they only have one set of horses to use from here on out.
Tumblr media
But amongst the unpleasant is a pleasant surprise, and the reveal of the cause for Lucy’s mysterious condition: she’s pregnant. Or rather, she was, as the baby’s just been delivered, and is being held by Dallas. As the group celebrates, Chris warns Ringo to stay away from Lordsburg, as the Plummers will kill him. But Ringo has something else on his mind.
See, on seeing Dallas with the baby, he finds himself quite in love with her. He finds her outside, and tells her that his father and brothers were killed by the Plummers. In turn, she reveals that her family was massacred on the real-life Superstition Mountain. Their conversation ends in Ringo proposing to Dallas, which she protests to because of her mysterious past.
Tumblr media
The next morning, Yakima’s left with Chris’ horse and rifle, and the group worry that she’s gone to tell the Apache. After Gatewood panics about his mysterious valise being possibly stolen, the group packs up and readies themselves to go. But Lucy is, of course, still ill from literally giving birth hours ago. Things are still tense between Lucy and Dallas, despite Dallas taking care of her the entire fucking night. Jesus, lady, that high horse is looking uncomfortable, you should get off it.
Dallas has something else to worry about, as she’s thinking on Ringo’s proposal. She consults with the doctor, who reminds her of her mysterious and checkered past being revealed if she goes. But she doesn’t seem to care, and she decides to accept the proposal. As for the rest, Gatewood’s freakin’ the fuck out. Because of Lucy’s condition, the doctor requests that they don’t leave until a day later. And Gatewood doesn’t give a single shit, as the Apache are close enough. Still, the party decides to stay, at Hatfield’s added insistence.
Tumblr media
Ringo and Dallas talk, with Dallas both warning him of the Plummers, and also accepting his proposal. The men are all still arguing about whether or not they should leave, and they note that the Apache are likely between them and their destination. Ringo then takes the opportunity to escape and ride to Lordsburg for revenge on the Plummers. But he stops when he sees smoke signals on the hill. The Apache are coming.
No more waiting, it’s time to GO. Taking the still recovering lady and her newborn child Coyote into the stagecoach, they take off into the desert. Gatewood continues to run his loudmouth, to the ire of Hatfield and Ringo. And Peacock, to my delight, shows some kindness and “Christian charity” to Dallas, as she holds Coyote during the ride. And after all, they’re almost at the ferry!
Tumblr media
Ah, shit, the ferry! Looks like the ferry, and the entire town of Lee’s Ferry have been burned. And if they ford the river, all of their supplies could be flooded, or the oxen could drown! Or worse, dysentery could set in! That’s what The Oregon Trail taught me! And yet, despite this, that’s actually EXACTLY what they do! And unlike me literally every time I’ve every tried to cross a river without a ferry, they make it through fine! Realistic educational games my ASS!
But it’s not entirely safe, as the group are being watched by none other than the Apache, who make their way down to intercept the group. In the carriage, meanwhile, the group is thankful that they’ve made their way from danger, and even Gatewood relaxes a little. Doc Boone makes a toast, and everyone seems to be getting along for once.
Tumblr media
OH FUCK, PEACOCK GOT HIT!
The girlfriend IMMEDIATELY SAYS, “Now he really is Drew Peacock.” I leave and get boba to soothe my injured spirit from that well-timed joke. And then, the movie continues, and the chase is on! The Apache chase the stagecoach through the desert, and the groups trade gunshots and arrows, with Ringo shooting from the back. Gatewood panics so hard that Doc Boone punches him and IMMEDIATELY knocks him out, as he attends to Peacock’s injuries.
Tumblr media
But despite their best efforts, the Apache group catches up to them, although many of them are killed by Ringo, the Marshal, Doc, and Hatfield. In the process, Buck is also shot, and Ringo literally jumps ON THE FUCKING HORSES, and commands them from the front like a goddamn badass. Things begin to get worse, as everybody in the stagecoach runs out of ammo, at the worst possible time. Hatfield only has one bullet remaining, and he considers using it...to kill Lucy! Holy fuck!
Tumblr media
And just as he’s about to fire IN HER FUCKING FACE, the sounds of horns ring out as the cavalry arrives. And Hatfield, dick that he is, is shot. I think he was trying to spare her the indignity of being captured by the Apache, but Jesus, man! He collapses, and reveals that his father is a judge in Virginia before he...either passes out or dies, I’m not sure. The group finally gets to Lordsburg, where it turns out that Lucy’s husband is gonna be OK, and wasn’t severely injured. She tanks Dallas for everything that she’s done, and promises to help her should she ever need assistance. Good, finally, the lady needs a goddamn break.
The stagecoach rides through the busy town, and the arrival of the Ringo Kid gets the attention of Luke Plummer (Tom Tyler), who fetches his brothers Hank (Vester Pegg) and Ike (Joe Rickson). Time to get ready for a showdown, it seems. Dallas seems to know this, and goes to Ringo after the living Peacock (yay!) and the not-so-living Hatfield (oof) are brought in for medical help.
Tumblr media
Buck’s also OK, but Gatewood isn’t. See, that valise he was carrying was actually full of money, and he had embezzled it from his own bank. He had counted on telegraph lines being down, so that he could escape with his ill-gotten gains, but has no such luck, and is led away in handcuffs! HA!
Ringo, meanwhile, is set to kill Luke Plummer and his brothers. The Marshal lets him escape, and promises to get Dallas safely down to a little ranch he owns in the South. Dallas and Ringo walk off together, and Dallas tries to get him to leave and say goodbye before he goes to his death, and before he finds out about her past (presumably as a prostitute).
Tumblr media
See, they’re actually walking up to a brothel, where Dallas is going to stay and work. Because, yeah, she’s a prostitute. Sucks that she’s been so maligned, because prostitution fuckin’ BUILT the Old West! I guess it’s easier to see that with historical context. As Ringo finds out the truth about Dallas (which he might’ve known all along), he still insists upon marrying her...and upon killing the Plummers.
Tumblr media
Doc, meanwhile, goes to the bar where the Plummers are waiting. He tells them that he’ll get them arrested, and Luke swears to come back for him after their business with Ringo is concluded. The brothers head outside, ready for the final showdown. It’s 3 on one, Plummers against Ringo. Ringo fires! A few more shots...then silence. And Dallas mourns.
Tumblr media
Except that Ringo wins the fight, and goes back to her! A happy ending! I’m sure that’ll be pretty goddamn rare this month. The Marshal arrives to take Ringo away, and Ringo goes as promised. She asks to ride with him a bit, and the Marshal agrees. He and Doc watch them get on, then cause the horses of the carriage to stampede away, letting Ringo and Dallas escape into the desert, together. And that’s the end!
Tumblr media
Y’know...I liked it! I really liked it!
This movie is often referred to as the greatest Western of all time, and the reason that the Western survived into the next several decades. And honestly, I get it! It was nominated for 7 Academy Awards, and won for Best Supporting Actor (Thomas Mitchell, AKA Doc) and Best Original Score, both of which were quite deserved!
Review time!
Cast and Acting - 9/10: Sure, it’s a little hokey. But at the same time, it’s good classic Hollywood acting! Wayne, Trevor, Mitchell, Carradine, and Devine are standouts for me, all of which serving their roles well. Also, fun fact about Andy Devine: he’s the voice of Friar Tuck in Disney’s Robin Hood! KNEW I recognized that voice!
Plot and Writing - 10/10: Standard plot? Sure. Engaging as hell? Hell yeah! This is just a good story, plain and simple. No holes, no problems, no mistakes, and purely straightforward. Great writing by the original story author, Ernest Haycox, and great screenplay by Dudley Nichols!
Directing and Cinematography - 10/10: Great looking movie, too! All credit to John Ford, unsurprisingly. Cinematographer Bert Glennon also deserves credit for the beautiful landscape shots throughout. Gogeous film, even in black-and-white!
Production and Art Design - 8/10: This is pretty standard Western production design, so not a lot to write home about specifically. However, that doesn’t mean it’s bad. To the contrary, it’s quite good! Just does stand out to me quite as much as other movies. Might be a nitpick, but it’s still something against the film.
Music and Editing - 10/10: No complaints! Seven composers definitely make their presence known, and you can tell that this score heavily informed all Western scores after it. It’s iconic, and it’s perfect for the mood. As for the editing by Otho Lovering and Dorothy Spencer...it’s great! Perfect pacing, well-edited...no complaints whatsoever.
Tumblr media
94%, and I had fun with this one!
I honestly did have quite a good time with this one. I can’t really call it a “fun” movie, but it definitely is a good one. Plus, it’s a John Ford/John Wayne film, which is basically a staple of the genre. So, what’s next?
Tumblr media
Next: My Darling Clementine (1946), dir. John Ford

that gif you used made me curious - presuming they all had some skill in baking (which we know is not the case in reality lol), how would each of the LIs do on GBBO? :D
I may have actually answered this one before, but I’ve watched so much more of the GBBO over the course of this pandemic, so I’m going to do it again!
Marion: Fantastic skills, but not a ton of creativity. Tends to be just below the leader on any given day for solid bakes that stop just short of completely wowing the judges.
Robin: He gets a lot of screen time because he’s funny and charming. His bakes are traditional and can be a bit stodgy.
John: You know when they get an engineer on there who uses a protractor and creates ridiculous diagrams of their bakes?  That’s John. He does some amazing stuff and the other contestants all love him.
Will: Has never heard of this recipe before. Decides he knows better than the recipe during technicals. Talks back to the judges.
Meissa: Amazing flavor, horrible horrible appearance. Seriously, how do they make something that tastes so good look so very, very bad?
Alanna: Disaster baker. Fantastic ideas, but her bakes frequently fall apart and her station always looks like a bomb went off.
Geoffrey: Is eliminated during screen testing. Fundamentally incompatible with the basic premise of the show due to extreme competitiveness.
Gui: Everything looks perfection and tastes divine. When he manages to finish it on time.

I'm surprised nobody has thrown this idea at you yet... Empire Sibs being disasters and talking about their crushes like it's a 80/90's movie sleepover. Or complain about all the attempts they've tried and failed in an effort to get a date, before deciding they'll help each other. (And try and fail. Or maybe succeed!)
The Empire Sibs are absolute disasters and I love them for it! I believe I have hit the major 80/90′s movie sleepover requirements: talk of crushes, comfort food and a John Hughes movie.
Hope you enjoy!
"Can you pass me the other one?" After a moment of considering the ramifications of ignoring Beau, he leaned forward to grab the bag of chocolate off the table and threw it at her. "Dick."
"It's not fair how attractive they are."
"Did you see the picture?"
"They look like the perfect couple."
"Don't remind me."
"At least you still have Yasha. She can hold you in her strong arms and comfort you."
"She probably thinks I'm an idiot now. I couldn't string two words together when I tried to ask Jester out."
Caleb snorted as he shoveled ice cream into his mouth. "She will understand. You will tell her how badly it went and she'll tell you she wouldn't have done any better and you shouldn't worry about it because she's not even available. She's dating a handsome man that's smart and kind and strong."
"Fjord is a dumbass."
"Not all the time. We've had several conversations about magic that I could never have with a complete dumbass."
"He is whenever we hang out."
"That's because when the two of you get together there suddenly becomes only one brain cell between the two of you. I thought I would have to drive you both to the hospital the last time you got drunk together."
"Yeah, that was a good night." The thunk of Beau's phone falling against her chest as she let out a groan and pushed her head back against the arm of the couch covered the sound of Molly Ringwald in the background. "They really do look perfect together. I'm sure she brings him home to her mom and Marion just loves him and thinks he's perfect for her."
"What parent wouldn't?"
"The weird thing is I could have sworn that Fjord was interested in you. He asks about you all the time. I swear the first thing out of his mouth whenever I see him is a question about how you're doing or what you've been up to. If you didn't ask him out, I would have told him to hurry up and do it."
"Luckily, I never had a chance in the first place because I already made a fool out of myself enough as it is and it would have felt worse if I actually had a chance of him saying yes."
"Fjord probably has no idea you even tried."
With a sigh, Caleb pressed the heart on Jester's most recent photo of Fjord leaning against a railing with a beer in hand and his dark hair billowing in the wind. "Hopefully. I would hate for our friendship to be awkward because I tries to ask out someone that's already in a happy relationship."
"We can find you someone else! What about that hot guy that always stops by the library to talk to you about magic? He's definitely interested in you."
"The only thing I know about him is that he has an interest in magic. That's not a good basis for a relationship."
"That's what dating is for. You get to know someone and figure out where you're interested in having something deeper."
"I just..."
"Yeah, I know. Instead of a date, it could be two friends trying to get to know each other better. I could come with you if it would make you feel more comfortable."
"I'll think about it."
"Okay."
After tossing the bag of chocolates back on the table, Beau moved from her position leaning against the side of the couch to sprawling out on top of him. It only took a few elbows to his ribs for Beau to find a comfortable position with the side of her face smashed against his chest. While it wasn't the best position for him, he simply wrapped an arm around her waist and turned his head to watch the movie.
They were only a few minutes into returning their attention to The Breakfast Club when Beau's phone vibrated against his chest. Her surprised gasp was followed by Beau scrambling to sit up with her fingers typing rapidly against the screen. As he struggled to get his air back in his lungs, Caleb pushed up to peek over Beau's shoulder at her phone. She quickly pulled her phone away and held up a hand to stop him.
"What is it?"
Beau took her time to finish what she was doing, then put her phone down and looked him straight in the eye. "Jessie just texted me to ask if you were interested in Fjord because he wants to ask you out, but he's too nervous to do it."
"I... What?"
"We are getting you a boyfriend."
"But Fjord..." While she could have stopped him, Beau let him snatch her phone and look at the series of texts between Jester and Beau. "What am I supposed to do? I made an idiot of myself. I'll do the same thing if he tries to do something."
"All you need to do is agree when he asks."
"Right, but what about you?"
"I'm not interested in Fjord."
He smacked her lightly on the arm with her phone, then handed it over to her. "This means he's not dating Jester, which means you still have a chance. We need to figure out how you're going to ask her out."
"One step at a time. First, we get you in a situation for Fjord to ask you on a date, then we figure out how I ask out Jester."
"Is she going to help with that?"
"Of course. Someone has to be responsible for wrangling Fjord. Let us worry about the details. You just make sure to say yes when he asks."
"I can do that."
While Beau went back to typing away on her phone, Caleb turned his attention to the television to distract him from the emotions welling up in his chest. The teens dancing on the screen were enough to prevent his mind and heart from going a million miles an hour. That didn't stop him from picking nervously at the hem of his pants and shuffling every few seconds in his sleep. When the urge to steal a glance at Beau grew too strong, he reached forward to grab a bag of gummy bears and focused on picking out his favorite flavors.
"Put on the dark purple cardigan that Fjord loves on you. He's about to pull a Say Anything on you."
"What?"
"Cardigan, now. Let's go!"
When Beau forced him off the couch, Caleb barely managed to not completely lose his balance. "This is not how I expected this evening to go. I bought five gallons of ice cream."
"Now, we'll be eating it to celebrate."
"After we figure out how you'll ask Jester out."
"While we figure out how I'll ask Jester out. You, me and your boyfriend."

Incest Rec List
Books (that I have read):
“Flowers in The Attic” by V.C. Andrews (Older!Brother/Younger!Sister; explicit; dub-con). There’s also 3 sequels (”Petals in the Wind”, “If There be Thorns” and “Seeds of Yesterday”) as well as a prequel (”Garden of Shadows”). There’s also a spin off series called “Christopher’s Diaries”, but it was written by another author and goes against pre-established canon.
“Game of Thrones” by George R.R. Martin (Twin!Brother/Twin!Sister; explicit; consensual).
“Tigana” by Guy Gavriel Kay (Younger!Brother/Older!Sister; explicit; consensual). It’s just a plot detail, without much importance.
“The Cement Garden” by Ian McEwan (Older!Brother/Younger!Sister; explicit; consensual).
“Forbidden” by Tabitha Suzuma (Older!Brother/Younger!Sister; explicit; consensual). It’s a romance book and just so happens that our protagonists are siblings. It also has a very sad ending.
“The Thirteenth Tale” by Diane Setterfield ( Older!Brother/Younger!Sister; hinted, but it’s suspected by other characters; slightly dub-con).
“Os Maias” by Eça de Queiros (Younger!Brother/Older!Sister; explicit; consensual). A classic portuguese novel, I’m pretty sure there’s an English translation. The characters are unaware that they are related.
"The God of Small Things" by  Arundhati Roy (Twin!Brother/Twin!sister; explicit (iirc), consensual).
“The Mortal Instruments Series” by Cassandra Clare. Oh, this one is complicated to categorize, specially without giving spoilers. But I’ll try: we have one couple that are together unaware that they are related (Older!Brother/Younger!Sister). If you read further, we have one couple that believes to be related by are still attracted to one another (Older!Brother/Younger!Sister). Go further into the series and we have a non-consensual kiss between another Older!Brother/Younger!Sister couple, in which the brother is very attracted to said sister.
“Josie and Jack” by Kelly Braffet (Older!Brother/Younger!Sister; subtext, likely one sided attraction). Fun fact: one of the characters compare Josie and Jack to Chris and Cathy from “Flowers in the Attic”.
“The Fall of the House of Usher” by Edgar Allan Poe (can’t remember who is older, but it’s Brother/Sister, subtext).
“The Secret History” by Donna Tartt (Twin!Brother/Twin!Sister; explicit; consensual).
“The Dreamers” by Aldair Gilbert. (Twin!Brother/Twin!Sister; explicit; consensual). This one is interesting, because originally, it was a book called “The Holy Innocents”, which in turn as based in a French book called “The Holy Terrors (or “Le Enfants Terribles” in French) by Jean Cocteau. I was never able to find the original version to buy, as when the book was adapted into a movie called “The Dreamers”, Aldair decided to re-write the novel and re-publish with the same title of the movie.
Books (that I haven’t read, and therefore can’t offer much detail, if anyone has read, feel free to fill the gaps):
“Ada, or Ardor” by Vladmir Nabokov (brother/sister). It’s by the same author of Lolita, so I can assure you it must be polemic.
“Book of Daniel” by E.L. Doctorow (brother/sister). I think it’s a biblical thing.
“Burying the Shadow” by Storm Constantine (brother/sister).
“Mirror, Mirror” by Gregory Maguire (brother/sister).
“Malika” by Valérie Valère (brother/sister).
“The Mists of Avalon” by Marion Zimmer Bradley (brother/sister).
“Pin” by Andrew Neiderman (brother/sister).
“A Spell of Winter” by Helen Dunmore (brother/sister).
“Wasteland” by Francesca Lia Block (brother/sister).
“The Blue Bedspread” by Raj Kamal Jha (unknown).
“The Holy Terrors” by Jean Cocteau (brother/sister). As mentioned in my comments about “The Dreamers”.
“Watch Your Mouth” by Daniel Handler (unknown).
“Mara and Dann: An Adventure” by Doris Lessing (Younger!Brother/Older!Sister).
“Moon Tiger” by Penelope Lively (unknown).
“The Hotel New Hampshire” by John Irving (unknown).
“Love’s Forbidden Flower” by Diane Rinella (brother/sister). Has a sequel, “Time’s Forbidden Flower”.
“Flawed” by Kate Avelynn (brother/sister).
I would like to notice that most of the books in this list are difficult to find (at least if you live outside of the U.S.) and can be expensive since most of them you will have to buy from the U.S. and have them delivered to your house. There’s many more books, I’m sure. This is only the ones I have heard of.
Movies/TV-Shows:
“Flesh and Bone”. 2015; One Season. At Starz. (Older!Brother/Younger!Sister; explicit; dub-con). It’s like Black Swan, but instead of lesbians, it’s about incest.
“Merlin”. 2008; Five Seasons. At BCC. (Half-Brother/Half-Sister, not sure who’s older). The characters are unaware of their status as siblings, but there’s a build up for their relationship before it’s dropped in Season Two.
“The Borgias”. 2011, Three Seasons. At Showtime. (Older!Brother/Younger!Sister; explicit; consensual). Based in the historical Borgia family.
“Consent”. 2010, 1h 27 min. (Brother/Sister). Haven’t seen yet to be able to say details, but I’m pretty sure it’s explicit.
“Shame”. 2011, 1h 41 min. (Brother/Sister; hinted, subtext).
Also, many of the recommended books have an movie adaptation, so be sure to check them out (especially “The Dreamers”, because the movie is wonderful).
——–
That’s a great list, thanks for submitting :) I’ve heard others mention Forbidden too. @thecloserkin also has a great review on Under the Pendulum Sun, which contains canon incest, and I really have been meaning to get further in it, I’m just awful at paying attention.
