Are we getting any Ona x reader Childhood sweetheart??

ona batlle x reader
Tumblr media Tumblr media
description: in which you and your childhood friend watch each other grow up, going through different partners, life stages and miraculously ending up in a surprising result
warnings: it’s a long one - buckle up!! catalan in bold italics, mentions of cheating and tears
a/n: hiya, lovey! i hope you don’t mind that i tweaked this into a childhood friends to lovers situation, i really hope you enjoy❤️
⋆ ★ ⋆ ★ ⋆ ★ ⋆ ★ ⋆
you and your best friend, ona, were the epitome of inseperable. your special bond was formed by years of shared laughter, inside jokes, secrets and late night conversations that stood the test of time.
you and ona knew each other better than anyone, the years of being best friends proving soulmates existed.
at first you both believed it was platonic soulmates but as the seasons and years went by, so did your dynamic, unbeknownst to either of you at the time.
it began through the subtle shift in stolen glances and unspoken words and conversations lingering in the air, something felt different for both of you.
little did you both know, the journey and progression from being best friends formed the very foundation of your relationship in the present.
[ 7 years old ]
it all started in school, a young ona experimentally kicking a football to a lonely you to test out the waters during lunch break.
in the beginning, you were incredibly shy, finding it hard to make friends at the time. her kindness made your heart warm and when you kicked the ball back, you both knew the other would be in your lives forever.
she came up to you and managed to get you to open up, she was pleasantly surprised to find out that you were quite chatty when you talked about something you were interested in. she loved it.
she’d listen to your words intently, each word engraving new lore about you in her mind, making an effort to remember as much about you as she could.
“one day, we’re gonna play together for spain and bring home a gold medal” ona promises, nudging your shoulder with hers as you both sat next to each other on the grass.
you laugh and nudge her back, nodding and holding your pinky up, she smiled cheekily and interlocked her own with yours, a promise you both intended to keep.
everyday at school, you and ona grew closer. your families were so happy with the fact that you’d made a friend so close, both of you at each other’s houses every other day. it just felt right for the both of you and everyone around you.
[ 12 years old ]
you and ona were joined at the hip, not even an exaggeration, you were never apart. you and ona had promised each other that wherever the other would go, you would follow in suit.
it was a non verbal promise but something that was just understood between the two of you.
you and ona had been scouted in your local club to join the youth barcelona team, both of you squealing and jumping around on her bed when you both discussed the situation. however, promptly scolded by ona’s mum that had you both in a fit of giggles.
because the two of you played together so often, each other’s playing styles were very much adapted into your own.
ona was a defender while you played in the midfield, the two of you always linking up to score a goal or an assist.
you both didn’t even need to look at each other to know where to pass or aim, the presence of one another being enough to score goals that had people impressed by your performances.
you and ona thrived in the barcelona team, labelled a dynamic duo by not only your coaches and teammates, but the spectators also.
wordless communication and care were the foundations of your friendship. the needs and requirements for the other person just feeling like common sense.
“you didn’t rub it in properly” ona laughs, pointing at the streaks on sunscreen left on the skin of your face.
“in case you didn’t notice, onita, i don’t exactly have a mirror” you grumble, attempting to rub the rest of the sunscreen but missing completely, making the brunette laugh even more.
“oh, preciosa (precious)” she teases, roughly rubbing the remnants into your skin causing you to groan and attempt to push her away.
“done” she cheeses out, giving your cheek a light pat before you shove her away jokingly. “you suck,” you stick your tongue out at her and she immediately returns the gesture, making you both give each other challenging glares before giggling with each other.
“my house or yours?” ona grins, passing you your water after training. “mhm, let’s go to yours” you smile back at her, she nods and you both chat as normal.
as soon as you got to ona’s, she gave you some of her clothes to change into and you immediately called your family to let them know you’re here and they already knew you’d ask to stay over so they agreed instantly.
you throw ona a thumbs up as she watches you converse on the phone and she pumps her fist in celebration, making you giggle before ending the call.
[ 17 years old ]
this was a difficult time for the both of you, it was when you both started exploring the dating world with other people.
ona got into a relationship first with this random girl, she was super nice at first, but when ona would spend time with you, she would get into insane arguments with her, her girlfriend claiming ona cared more about you than her.
and because it was her first girlfriend, she pulled back from you and you only really saw each other at training, and even then, the communication was limited.
you were heartbroken to say the least, losing your best friend over a girl, you decided to give ona a taste of her own medicine and began dating this girl you thought was really nice.
she treated you well, like a princess honestly, you were giddy and all round happier and ona, from a distance was happy for you.
she’d broken up with her girlfriend and she didn’t, well..couldn’t tell you since she rarely saw you. she regretted the whole relationship, it was toxic and manipulative and she wished she never ditched you for her.
but you were happy again and she would never jeopardise that for you. the only thing ona wanted for you was an endless amount of happiness, getting all the love that you deserved.
it was until you found out your girlfriend had cheated on you, coincidentally with ona’s ex that everything fell back into place.
with tears pooling in your eyes, you knocked on the door of the batlle residence with anxiety overtaking your entire body.
ona opened the door with a worried and confused expression, looking down at your kicked puppy expression that was ready to break down at any moment.
“nena? (babe)” she breathes out, a sob escapes from the back of your throat and you rush to wrap your arms around her neck, pressing your face into her collarbone as your body wracked with a heart wrenching sob.
she immediately holds you around your waist, rubbing comforting circles over the shirt you were wearing, saying nothing but just holding you close.
she tries to pull away to look at you but you shake your head and hold her tighter, she frowns at the sounds of your crying, lifting you up by your thighs and hoisting you up on her waist.
she hurriedly closes the door and rushes to her room, sitting on the edge of the bed as you cried into her arms. she whispers sweet words in your ear as you pressed into her.
you hug for a couple of minutes until you pull away, wiping your tears away with the back of your hands as you looked down at her,
“i didn’t know where else to go” you sniff, your nose red and your voice slightly congested. she frowns at you, using the pad of her finger to wipe away the tear rolling down your cheek.
“you came to the right place, this is your home too, i’ve missed you so much” she says softly, making a few more tears leave your eyes while she chokes back on her own. it felt like so much time but no time had passed as you explained the situation.
ona was pissed, making an effort the next day to give both of your now ex girlfriends a piece of her mind.
that’s when you both decided to take a break with dating, focusing on yourselves, football and each other. everything was back to normal and you were both incredibly relieved.
[ 18 - 21 years old ]
as the years went by, you and ona only grew closer, you noticed the shift in your dynamic. the lingering stares and touching blurring the line between platonic and romantic.
you tried to think nothing of it, ona was always incredibly affectionate and if anything she was just being friendly.
if only you knew how this girl really felt about you. in love was an understatement but she didn’t and couldn’t say anything, respecting you more than anyone in the world.
she wouldn’t want to risk losing you, her best friend, her soulmate.
it didn’t really help that you both followed each other to every club, barcelona, madrid, levante and even making the big jump to manchester united.
the best friend duo left an imprint on every club you both went to, proving to be unstoppable in every league.
you were both so in tune and synchronised, ona even managed to assist you in a hat trick at manchester united, claiming it to be one of her proudest moments.
she’d hoist you up on her waist in celebration as she kisses your cheek repeatedly as the girls surrounded you in celebration. “mi niña (my girl)” she grins up at you.
you kiss her forehead in appreciation and couldn’t help but grow a little warm at the pet name, as well as the way she was looking at you as if you were the reason the run had risen in the morning. (she truly believed this)
sure you both got asked over the years if the two of you were dating and it slightly hurt to shut it down.
you received numerous questioning expressions when you’d say, “no, we’re best friends” but the two of you chose to ignore. you both didn’t like each other like that. (silly)
[ 24 years old ]
it was until you both decided to return home that everything took a turn. your comeback to barcelona as the dynamic duo had been highly anticipated ever since the transfer rumours came out. and when the contracts were finalised and you and ona were promoted together, it went viral.
falling back into the team with new and old teammates was fluid, and exciting. you both felt good about the whole situation, excited for the new chapter ahead.
ona had partnered up with aitana for training because alexia had dragged you away as soon as she could.
“you like her” she teased, your eyes widen and you give her a little slap on the shoulder, “no, i don’t” you grit out, making your captain laugh brightly.
“please don’t tell me you’re this stupid, have you seen how that girl looks at you?” she scoffs, “heart eyes, makes me feel sick” she mocks, you can’t help the little smile hinting at your lips and alexia smiles satisfied.
she prys the details from you and you surprisingly complied. alexia helped you realised that you’ve liked ona for a while, just never coming to terms with it.
you felt lighter after all of it was off your shoulders, thanking alexia for slapping some sense into you.
she humbly accepted as long as she was the maid of honour at your wedding, making you swear on your life that it would happen.
ona had also been in her own conversation with aitana. being one of your teammates for years as well as a close friend, she knew ona liked you, she always has.
she would beg ona to confess, knowing that you liked her back because it was just obvious to anyone with a pulse. she’d always shut down the thoughts quickly. but this time, she actually listened to aitana.
“ona, that girl is in love with you and if she isn’t, you can slap me in the face” aitana speaks with her hands, making ona follow the movements as she spoke.
“you’d actually let me slap you in the face?” ona laughs, aitana gives her a stern expression and ona stops, glancing your way to see you laughing with alexia. she smiles at your bright smile, making aitana shake her head and whisking she had her phone to capture the moment.
it was a team bonding session at alexia’s house, a dinner, movie, drinks type of situation. ona and you lived together, like always, so ona drove you both over. alexia opened the door with a hopeful smile but faltered slightly at the two of you just being friends when you gave her that little look of disappointment.
she gives you a longer hug than ona and it makes her slightly suspicious, she knew you and alexia were like sisters but she couldn’t help the funny feeling bubbling in her stomach.
she’d glare slightly whenever you and alexia would interact and it made alexia laugh, knowing that tomorrow you’d come to training with a girlfriend.
when you got in the car and saw ona gripping the steering wheel so tight her knuckles turned pale, you glance at her in worry.
“are you okay?” you ask nervously, she looks over at you for a split second before looking back in front. “i’m fine” she says flatly, oh you were in for it.
the rest of the drive was intense and quiet. the tension was unbearable. when you both made it home, ona bolted to her room and slammed the door shut, making you wince. you gave her about an hour to cool off before you cautiously knocked on her door.
“ona?” you say softly, you open the door to see her on her bed just scrolling on her phone, she instinctively moves over so you lie down next to her, staring up at the ceiling as she refuses to look at you.
“have i done something wrong?” you break the silence, ona sighs heavily, “no” she breathes out, turning in her side to face you and prompting you to do the same.
“do you like alexia?” she asks softly, you gawk at her in shock, “what? no!” you exclaim, ona’s cheeks burn a little, looking down to see your hand resting on the bed close to hers.
“why? are you worried?” you tease, ona bores her eyes into yours, “and if i was?” she says full of confidence, your mouth falls open slightly, just blinking as you looked at her in surprise.
both of you are pink cheeked with wide pupils, resembling a full moon. “what do you mean?” you utter, “nenita (babe) you know what i mean” ona says hopefully, you pause for a moment before nodding, your bodies subconsciously moving closer to one another like a magnetic field.
“te amo (i love you)” you say confidently, making the girl in front of you break out into a bright smile, “te amo (i love you)” she parrots, you break out into your own wide smile.
you look at each other lovingly for a moment before ona brings a hand up to cup your face, she glances down at your lips and you inhale eagerly, making her chuckle before she pulled you into a searing kiss.
time seemed to pause at this moment, just the warmth of your breaths and lips mingling unfolding like a gentle melody.
your lips moved tenderly with each other, unlocking the years of whispered promises of love you both never knew you were hoping for. your tongues explored each others mouths and it all felt two familiar, you were soulmates after all.
in that shared moment, the line between friendship and romance faded completely, leaving behind the gentle lull of your now joined heartbeats, the start of forever for the both of you.
when you both walked into training the next day with ona’s hand in the small of your back and a gentle kiss to your temple, the room erupted into cheers.
alexia and aitana exchange a high five, a couple of the girls exchanging money making you both laugh brightly at some of the disappointed but happy expressions in the room.
when you both went to the world cup and managed to win through a goal from you, ona proclaimed your love then and there, unable to hold it in anymore.
when she pulled you into a loving kiss after that final whistle blew, it was a special moment for tje both of you. especially since you were both fulfilling that promise of bringing home that gold medal.
you and ona’s friendship stood as a witness to the growth and transformation for the both of you. standing as a testament of love that began with the simplicity of a girl kicking a football to you because she thought you looked lonely, forming into a profound and everlasting connection.

Birthday Observations (Capricorn Placements)
*Just based on my observations, only take what resonates
Tumblr media
(Today’s my birthday -woo- so I thought I’d put together some observations I’ve noticed about Capricorn placements)
-Capricorn in the big 6 (especially moon) are forced to grow up so fast. Usually, because they’re born to a family with some sort of immaturity in the adults. Because of this these placements usually have to reparent themselves at some point, and this can be why Capricorn placements tend to have more fun in their lives after 25-30
-Sometimes I feel like we forget that in old astrology Aquarius and Capricorn have the same ruler, Saturn. I believe this is why Capricorns can find themselves innovating or even find themselves being stand out loners
-Speaking of Saturn, Capricorn heavy people tend to have to break generational curses or they’ll end up victim to the same circumstances (but they can fall into the same patterns easily)
Tumblr media
-Capricorns tend to have such a dry sense of humor because humor is how we cope with all the stress and madness. When things get more lighthearted (and when developed) Capricorns can be much less serious and heavy individuals
-Capricorn mercuries may struggle with expressing themselves in their youth, and even as they get older they may have a hard time opening up and sharing details about their thoughts.
-I think the constant theme with Capricorn placements is taking time and being very deliberate in their processes. Capricorn Asc tend to be a bit slow paced in how they act and react (not in a lacking way, just very deliberate). Capricorn suns grow into their identity and how to express it often after their early 20s, Capricorn moons need time an space to understand and process the emotions they’re feeling, Capricorn mercuries need time to respond and often carefully consider what they’ll say next, Capricorn venuses often don’t fully embrace their beauty until after their mid 20s and they tend to have better luck in love and relationships after this point as well, Capricorn marses tend to need time to achieve their goals, even when they move toward them with consistency, etc
Tumblr media
-Underdeveloped Capricorn placements can be super competitive and try to out pace you in everything that you do better than them. (Capricorn suns will try to undermine your achievements and attention, Capricorn venus will try to make you feel ugly and try to throw shade on your style/friendships/romantic options, etc)
-Capricorns don’t enjoy inefficient behavior, they may complain about a process that doesn’t seem to be logical in all steps and may streamline the process if they can.
-The biggest lesson I’m trying to learn as a Capricorn is when to rest. There’s always more work that can be done and it’s hard to mentally step away without feeling guilty or unproductive.
Tumblr media
-I always felt some kinda way about The Devil tarot card being for Capricorns— but I will say it is a sign that is commonly tempted to chase after means (like Capricorn venus dating someone for money). Capricorns love respect and security so they can sell out their soul for this if they’re not self aware.
-I just barely started reading Alice Sparkly Kat’s Post Colonial Astrology book, but there and on her blog she makes a great point that “Capricorns have never been corporate”. I have a theory that conformity can be a great detriment to Capricorn placements (even if just on a spiritual level). But Saturn repeated his father’s ruthless attitude around power and was cut down by his sons. Capricorns can find themselves succeeding down these conventional paths and then they end up suffering personally. Or, as was my experience, these conventional paths never quite open up to you and you face more and more challenges in this route and can never quite match their progress to their ambitions. Capricorns tend to benefit much more when they create their own path (I’ve found that this true for business as well as other areas of life).

—ONE OF YOUR GIRLS.
Tumblr media
pairing: lucy bronze x reader, (alexia putellas x reader)
synopsis: the only reason is simply because you are both heartbroken, lonely, and desperate.
word count: 1.9k
a/n: i gave myself a 1k word limit on this and i failed miserably. literally why is it so hard for me to write a 1k essay for school but not this
Tumblr media
You started to learn Lucy’s routine only a few weeks after she started coming around. Like clockwork, it didn’t matter how late you went to bed, she would always be up before eight. Sometimes, it would be to go downstairs for a swim in the freezing cold outdoor pool in her apartment complex. “Helps me wake up and think clearer”, she would explain. Sometimes, it would just be to sit in the living room with a coffee in hand, watching videos of the team you and her would be playing later in the day. Other times—and it was always a treat when she did—it would be to stay in bed with you, and watch you wake up.
Those were the times in which you felt like what you had with Lucy resembled most like a relationship, due to the sheer amount of domesticity of it. The way she would take time out of the day to lay a few extra minutes with you made it feel concrete like what you were doing was worth the time. But that wasn’t the goal—a relationship.
“I forgot to bring my stuff last night,” you whispered, suddenly remembering the lack of gear you brought over to Lucy’s apartment. You had hastily stuffed the necessities into a crossbody bag when she texted.
“It’s alright. We can drive by later and pick it up on our way to training.”
“We’re gonna arrive together? What if people see?”
Everyone else at Barcelona didn’t know, of course, because you couldn’t even begin to explain what the fuck transpired between you two. It was no relationship, but it was no ordinary friendship either. A special kind of friendship, maybe, but not entirely the kind people would think of if you described it as such . . .
Lucy’s lips pursed, and she contemplated for a moment. After a few seconds, she turned towards the window, the morning sun washed white behind the milky blinds.
“I don’t really care, to be honest,” her chest rose quickly with an exhale. “Why have we got to explain ourselves to people anyway? Kinda tired of it.”
You knew she meant having to deal with the looks her ex would give her. She had been chasing after Keira, trying to make amends for a long time. You knew that, she told you everything.
It made you think about your own situation. You were still very much in love with your own ex, but Alexia has since moved on with a mutual friend, and your conversations were reduced to strictly work nowadays. The way she started treating you after the breakup wasn’t dissimilar to how an older teenager treats her younger, annoying little sibling; with avoidance and an overly sense of self-importance. It made you despise her ten times more than you already did, but you also yearned for her attention, because it was what you have aligned your life with for a while.
But you supposed you had a type—older women with avoidance issues—which was why you were here with Lucy.
“Keira asked me about you the other day,” you said on the car ride to the training ground. You sat in Lucy’s passenger seat. “She was wondering how you were doing. Said you never talk to her anymore.”
Lucy scoffed and turned back to you. “Can we talk about something else?”
“Like what?”
“Like how you actually look so fit in my shirt.”
You let the snort escape your nose but leaned towards her in the passenger seat. “It’s literally a plain black T-shirt, Luce.”
“‘Xactly,” Her cheeks creased with a grin. “Makes me almost want to fancy you.”
“Almost.”
“Almost,” Lucy said.
Almost.
You and Lucy have always had a friendship filled with banter. Heart-to-hearts rarely happened—maybe before and after important matches, or international ones in which one of you had to be the loser—but you appreciated her easygoing nature and how it has shaped your relationship.
If you were a bit closer in age, if you weren’t already with Alexia, and she with Keira at the same time, you reckoned you would have gone for her. You’d always found her attractive.
“You’re too young for me, Y/N,” Lucy had told you once.
“I’m just saying,” you had put your hands up. “If you’re ever desperate enough, I could be like one of your girls.”
Lucy only laughed. Perhaps desperate was the wrong word to use. Lucy Bronze could never get that desperate so as to seek you out for company. No, everything would have to be on her terms.
You agreed with her, though. A nine-year age gap might have been a bit too much, but Lucy wasn’t just like any other 32-year-old.
But you were in love with Alexia. You still were, and your coupling with Lucy might have just been a ploy to piss her off, but your captain didn’t need to know that. Just seeing the not-so-subtle looks she sends your way whenever you are too touchy with Lucy was enough to satiate your grudge.
It seemed the joke wasn’t merely a joke, not to Lucy, because one night, she called you. You had never seen Lucy cry, at least not in person, and she was the type of person to let people see her cry only for her profession, never something in her personal life.
Every joke on your tongue died the moment you saw her blotchy, red face at your front door.
“I didn’t know who else to call.”
Really?
She could have called anyone on the team and they would happily offer her comfort. That was the charisma that Lucy wielded, and you were willing to bet there were other members of the team who were much better than you at comforting someone.
“I think I’m just unlovable.”
You led her inside and offered her a glass of water. I think I’m just unlovable. Her words echoed in your mind as you scrambled to find any words that would be comforting to her at that moment. How do you convince someone that they weren’t their flaws when you yourself struggled with the same insecurities? If Lucy even had those doubts about herself, how could you ever get out of it?
“I think I’m unlovable too.”
You didn’t know whether that was comforting or just rubbing salt in her wound, but Lucy exhaled shakily, for the first time looking at you in a way unlike that of teammates, or even friends.
Unlike a friend would, you lifted your hand and wiped away the tear on her cheek with the pad of your thumb, and unlike a friend would, you leaned in and kissed her slowly.
Kissing Lucy was exhilarating. She was eager and rough, and soft and gentle. It made you almost want to fall in love with her. She was tired, so you climbed on her lap and led the way, and all her burdens faded into oblivion, at least for the night.
When you both arrived at training, only a few of your teammates were there in the locker room, and most of them didn’t seem to notice you coming in together anyway. Pina, though, found you across the room.
“Did you hear?” She said quietly.
“What?”
“Alexia has been with the physios since like 9 this morning.”
“Why? What happened?” You tried not to sound too eager, or worried.
“I don’t know, but I walked past and I think she was crying.”
When you came into the rehab center, a physio greeted you with a smile. You returned it as your eyes quickly found the only person lying down on a bed, hiding her face in the crook of her arm.
“Hey, capitana,” you said in Spanish. “You sleep here last night or something?”
You saw the way her jaw ticked, and looking down, noticed the bandages wrapped around her knee, the ACL one.
“You didn’t happen to bring any coffee in, did you?” She said groggily. “I could use a sip.”
“No coffee, sorry. I’m trying to wean myself off of it.”
“You said that a thousand times before.”
You put your hands in your pockets and leaned against the bed. “What’s wrong?”
She let out a sigh and removed her arm. “They’re making me sit out Saturday’s game. They’re scared I might mess something up.”
You nodded, because you understood exactly why. Another ACL problem would be detrimental to her career in ways that you didn’t want to think about. “It’s better to be sure,” you shrugged.
“I’ve fucked my knee, Y/N,” Alexia said, inhaling shakily. “That’s what it is.”
You couldn’t imagine having to live with the anxiety, tiptoeing around your own knees, afraid it might give out any second again. Even the smallest discomfort could spell trouble, and the slightest movement could trigger the injury to worsen.
You opted not tell Lucy about your conversation with Alexia, because you wanted to keep it to yourself. As useless as that might be, that was the first genuine conversation you’ve had with your ex in about a year. You’ve learned not to take it to heart, though, because you knew you’d disappoint yourself when Alexia eventually goes back to treating you like a kid.
You made a conscious effort not to think about her when you called Lucy over for a hookup, but when she was knuckles-deep inside you, you couldn’t think of anything else but the pleasure.
Laying back and staring at the ceiling, you drew deep breaths as you came down from your high.
“You okay?” Lucy asked.
“Yeah,” you nodded. “Hold me?”
She smiled and gathered you in her arms before kissing you sweetly. “Did something happen with Alexia?”
“No.” Nothing happened, really, but maybe it was because nothing happened that made you so distraught. “Maybe in another universe, where you’re not you and I’m not me, I would take you on a date tomorrow, maybe we’d be happier.”
“Well, why won’t you do it in this universe?”
You shrugged and settled back against her chest. “Because I’m me and you’re you. But mostly, because I am me.”
Lucy didn’t answer. She knew as much as anyone that once you’ve made your mind up, there was no swaying it, and that she didn’t have the energy in her to either. Instead, she leaned down and planted a sweet kiss on your forehead, wishing you’d find it in you somewhere to see yourself the way she sees you.
It would take some time until then, though, as only a few weeks later, she saw you hand-in-hand with Alexia coming to practice. Apparently, Alexia’s girlfriend was no more and you got what you wanted. It was okay, though, because Lucy found comfort in Ona, about to go on a second date with her the next day. You might have almost gotten the love you’d always desired with her, but it was just that, an almost.

・✶ 。゚
I'm so furious at you for making me feel this way
Tumblr media
"Ugh, he's just so annoying..." you muttered quietly as you entered Willy’s apartment, returning to his place after a casual dinner with the team.
"Come on, y/n, you have to find a way to be around Auston. He's one of my best friends, and since you're one too, I want you two to get along."
**
For months, William had been trying to build a connection between you and Auston.
Having just moved to Toronto six months ago, your childhood friend William Nylander had been so kind to introduce you to the city. You had happily accepted a new job opportunity, and within a few weeks, Willy messaged you on Instagram after seeing your post about the move.
As children, William had always been one of your closest friends, but due to his moving around, it was sometimes challenging to meet up. However, thanks to social media, you both managed to stay updated about each other's lives.
And as your old friendship quickly rekindled, returning to its comfortable roots, you swiftly became best friends again.
Soon after spending quite the amount of time together, William had introduced you not only to his closest friends but also to the entire team. However, there was a catch – Although your heart might belong to another team, Toronto had to earn a soft spot as this was your new home.
Fortunately, you clicked well with everyone on the team, including their significant others. Yet, for some reason, Auston had irked you from the moment you met him.
He hadn't particularly done anything against you, but it was his smug expressions and comments about your sudden switch in team loyalty just to impress Willy that grated on you. Then, he had the nerve to suggest that you wanted to cosy up to your "so called" best friends to gain entry into the NHL world and snag hockey tickets.
"Probably just to boost followers on her Instagram," he quipped one evening, speaking low enough for only a few people to catch, yet loud enough for you to hear.
However, your intentions were far from that. Fame or social media followers were nowhere near your goals. All you wanted was to spend more time with Willy, and since you loved watching hockey, you were more than willing to pay for your own tickets.
So, from that moment on, every time Auston was around, you saw red. He exuded excessive confidence and an overall air of being too much. Sure, he was a star player on the team, but he wasn't constantly on top form. He had his off days, yet he was terrible at owning up to his mistakes.
To say the least, your thoughts about Auston weren't exactly positive, and his opinions about you weren't any better.
In his eyes, you were plain and uninteresting. A workaholic who seemed to indulge excessively on weekends, not holding back when it came to alcohol. He observed you flirting with almost every guy when out, and your perpetually upbeat and positive attitude was just too sickeningly cute for his taste.
The only reason he put up with being around you was because he recognised how much you meant to Willy and what a good friend you were to him. That, he could respect.
**
"I can be around him, Willy - I just prefer not to," you quipped, as the two of you headed first to the kitchen to grab a few snacks before settling on the sofa after a long walk with Pablo and Banksy.
"I mean it, y/n/n, I want you two to get along," William sighed lightly, though his friendly smile remained.
"I know, but we just... don't," you attempted to flash a sweet smile as you conveyed your feelings to William. "I can't put my finger on it... maybe it's his terrible moustache that he's always so damn proud of..."
"He's a Movember ambassador..."
"Well, he doesn't limit it to just November," you replied, a hint of disgust in your expression and a sigh. "He's simply not my cup of tea, and I'm definitely not his either."
William regarded you with a thoughtful expression, slowly coming to terms with the idea that the relationship between you and Auston might not improve, although a part of him thought otherwise.
"You know, you two are actually more alike than you think," he chuckled, trying to gently nudge you out of your comfort zone.
"Oh really?" You retorted with a light huff. "And how exactly am I similar to that self-absorbed so-called hockey star?" You raised an eyebrow.
"Well, for starters, you're both incredibly stubborn," William laughed heartily, a point you begrudgingly had to admit he might be right about. "And secondly, you're both insanely passionate about what you do. And you both care about your family and friends..." He continued softly, meeting your gaze as his words began to ease your tense demeanour. "Come on, Auston's a really great guy once you get past that tough exterior of his, and you're a wonderful person too - he just needs to see it. Then, I think the two of you could actually become pretty good friends."
William genuinely believed in what he said, but he was gradually growing tired of the ongoing friction between you and Auston. So, he made an effort to establish some sort of connection.
"Alright," he sighed deeply. "I suppose I can give him another chance..."
"That's all I'm asking for," William chuckled lightly before both of you diverted the conversation and turned your attention to the TV show you had planned to watch.
**
A couple of days later, you found yourself back in your usual spot at the Scotia Bank Arena, where the Leafs were facing off against the Senators.
Despite your efforts over the past 48 hours to shift your thoughts about Auston, making an attempt for the sake of your best friend William, as the players were announced and his prominent face appeared on the large screens, applauded for his talent, you couldn't help but feel a knot of discomfort within you.
"Fucking twat," you muttered under your breath, fortunately unnoticed by anyone around.
However, as the game began, you shook your head, attempting to push away any negative thoughts about him. You concluded that he wasn't worth your energy and mental space, but avoiding thoughts of him was easier said than done. After all, you were at a hockey game where he played, and his number was frequently mentioned.
Nonetheless, you did your best to ignore it and enjoy the company of other fans, including girls and families supporting the players. The arena reverberated with cheers and excitement as both teams alternated in scoring and taking the lead, making the match almost unbearably intense to watch.
During the third period, the score stood at 4-4, and with just three minutes remaining, if nothing changed, the game would head into overtime.
Your pulse raced alongside your quickened heartbeat as your eyes fervently tracked the play. And just before the buzzer sounded, number 34 skilfully manoeuvred the puck around the skates of two Senators and swiftly shot it under the goalie's pads, concluding the match with a 5-4 win for the Leafs. Which also secured him a hatty for the game.
"Of course," you thought, lightly shaking your head as the entire arena erupted with cheers and excitement, loud applause echoing through the air, and hats being thrown onto the ice.
Following the game, everyone gathered outside the locker room, waiting for the players to finish showering, attending to media commitments, and celebrations, where Auston was naturally announced as the player of the match.
You were engaged in conversation with some of the girlfriends as the players gradually exited the dressing room. And as one of the last to emerge, you patiently waited for Willy.
"Hey," he greeted, approaching you with damp hair, dressed in his post-game outfit. "I thought you had a date tonight?"
"Oh yeah, but we rescheduled since he had to cancel," you replied with a sweet smile and a light shrug.
"You didn't ditch him, did you?" William chuckled.
"What, no, he just cancelled on me. So, I chose to come here and offer my support to my best friend and his team," you playfully responded with a light smirk.
"Alright, well, I just need to finish up some things with Brad, then maybe we can go out for a late-night snack?" William suggested.
"Sure," you said with a friendly smile as William began to walk away. However, your smile quickly faded as a certain Arizona lad playfully joined your personal space, prompting you to turn and face him.
"Already tired of your new victim, y/n?" Auston's voice was filled with his signature confidence, clearly relishing the moment, especially after tonight's game.
"What's that supposed to mean, Auston?" Your tone was sharp and fierce as the tall lad stepped in closer to you.
"Well, just seems like you've been through every eligible bachelor in Toronto, and nobody seems to be good enough for you," a smug grin stretched across his tanned face, his ridiculous moustache curving along his lip.
"I haven't been through every bachelor in Toronto..." you retorted defensively. "Besides, there's nothing wrong with having standards - I mean, at least I'm not like you, poking into every available cunt you can find."
Your words seemed to hit a nerve with Auston, yet he responded with a dismissive huff and a chuckle, brushing off your comment.
"At least I'm getting some action - maybe you could use some too," his chuckle was cocky, and you couldn't help but express a disgusted look.
"Well, I'm sorry I don't sleep around like you do and actually prefer to be with someone I genuinely like," you retorted, matching his smug attitude. Though you knew it wasn't entirely true; you were open to casual hook up now and then, but you did prefer to get to know a person a bit before getting intimate.
"I'm just saying it might be good for you," Auston chuckled. "Besides, didn't you just get dumped last year? I mean, you should be out there, playing the field after ending a relationship."
"I didn't get dumped! And how do you even know about that?" you retorted sharply.
"Willy mentioned it a while ago," Auston replied with a smile.
"Hmm, well, yes, I... we broke up, but that doesn't mean I've given up, you know," you huffed gently, almost desperate to make a point. You understood Auston wasn't the most romantic person, and his confident, boyish manner shouldn't make you believe that all men were like him. "And I especially don't need to go around sleeping with everyone."
You crossed your arms defensively, fixing him with an intense gaze.
However, your stern comment only made Auston chuckle even more. "Whatever, still think it'd be good for you."
And as if on cue, William returned from his chat with Brad, and Auston quickly walked away after nodding to his teammate.
"Hey, you ready?" William asked with a friendly smile.
"Yeah, I'm all set," you replied with a smile, though your attempt to contain your annoyance wasn't entirely successful.
"What was that all about?" He chuckled a little.
"Oh, nothing," you gently rolled your eyes. "Just Auston being Auston."
Knowing you well enough, William merely chuckled and let the matter drop.
**
The following Sunday, you found yourself feeling freezing, sitting outside on a bench and waiting.
Your date had been rescheduled, and now you were impatiently enduring the cold while waiting for him to show up by the outdoor ice-skating rink the city. The first 20 minutes were bearable; you assumed he was just running late. But after 40 minutes with no replies to your messages and no sign of him, you started feeling rather foolish.
This turn of events caught you off guard. Based on your last two dates, everything had seemed to go smoothly, and you'd been texting each other every day for weeks. However, suddenly, for some unknown reason, he appeared to have lost interest in you.
But you wanted to maintain some semblance of dignity, to believe that he had a valid excuse, and that something unexpected had caused this delay. However, you also didn't want to be too naive. And after an hour had passed, you realised it was time to leave. It wasn't a mere mistake about the time; he had indeed stood you up and ghosted you.
And just when you thought things couldn't get any worse, a familiar voice spoke from behind as you stood up from your seat.
"Still waiting for your knight in shining armour?"
It was Auston. Of course, HE was here. And he'd spotted you.
"Shit," you muttered to yourself as you slowly turned around to face the last person you wanted to see right now.
"And what are you doing here?" you flashed him an unsatisfied grin, letting out a deep sigh.
"I was just ice skating with some friends," he simply replied, one hand tucked comfortably in his pocket to keep warm, while the other held his pair of skates. "So, are you here alone?"
"Why do you care, Auston?" your tone softened, yet it held a deep, sharp edge.
"Just noticed you were sitting all alone from across the rink..." he spoke almost gently, taking another step towards you, a smirk still on his face.
"And what? So, you thought I was looking pathetic, and you decided to come over here with your smug face and revel in the fact that I'd been stood up? Well, I'm sorry Auston, but I'm not in the mood for your annoying comments right now," you said sarcastically, feeling your tone might be a bit more aggressive than intended. However, you couldn't seem to control yourself at this moment. It turned out you were more hurt than you initially thought.
"What... no, y/n, I'm sorry, I didn't know you'd been stood up," Auston spoke, his smirk slowly fading as he noticed the genuine sadness and disappointment on your face. "Honestly, I didn't even know you were on a date; it was just a joke."
Your eyes met his, and you found yourself unable to respond immediately. While slowly, you felt tears starting to well up, but you tried your best to hold them back and not let it show.
"I'm sorry..." you said. "I just didn’t find it particularly funny..." Your arms crossed over your chest, not defensively but more as a way to comfort yourself, as a tear trickling down your cheek, and your heart heavy with disappointment.
Auston's expression had also completely changed. He seemed almost... concerned about you?
In that moment, Auston found himself genuinely impacted by seeing you so vulnerable. You were completely exposed emotionally, and he felt a sense of empathy for you, being treated in such a manner. While you might not have been his favourite person, he also didn't believe you deserved to be treated this way. And it stirred an unexpected urge in him to offer you comfort.
So, without overthinking it, he found himself speaking up.
"Do you want to skate together?"
His words surprised both you and himself. You never expected Auston to ask you to spend time with him, let alone attempt to console you in an emotional situation.
Baffled, you stood there, still in your skates, amidst the cheerful sounds of people skating and having fun around you. You simply stared at the man before you, shaking your head gently, trying to gather your thoughts to respond.
"What?"
Auston chuckled lightly, realising the surprising nature of his question. Yet, a sense of warmth grew within him as he contemplated trying to uplift your spirits.
"I asked, do you want to skate together?"
Though still slightly baffled, you regarded him with a curious look.
"I thought you were here with your friends?"
"I am," he flashed a smile. "But they have each other – you, on the other hand, seem like you could use some company."
You weren't entirely certain what to make of this situation. Was Auston joking? Was he playing around or something?
But oddly, he seemed genuine.
"Why... would you do that?" you inquired, a curious smile forming on your lips, prompting Auston to release a soft sigh.
"Well… maybe Willy has asked me to be a little nicer to you… and, since he's my best friend, and hanging out with him also means being around you from time to time, I figured…" Auston shrugged lightly before continuing, "Maybe I can, I don't know, try and get to know you a little bit better. And since you're all alone, why not now."
You found yourself holding your breath momentarily, contemplating his words. Yet, as you observed him, his smirk faded, gently licking his lips and replaced by a soft smile on his face.
"Alright," you replied softly, meeting his gaze as your eyes reflected the city lights around the rink. “But only if you promise me one thing…”
"Which is?"
"You won't laugh at me skating…" you timidly requested, a hint of embarrassment colouring your cheeks.
"Why would I laugh?" Auston gently smiled.
"I'm good at skating, but I'm also rather clumsy," you admitted, a small smile forming on your lips, and Auston simply replied with a casual chuckle.
"Don't worry, I'll catch you if you fall then."
After putting on his skates as well, both of you headed onto the ice together with soft laughter. And surprisingly, Auston turned out to be excellent company.
Surely, at first, it was a bit awkward. Breaking the tension that had built up over months between you wasn't easy. But gradually, as you continued skating side by side, the atmosphere lightened. William was, of course, the primary topic of your conversation, as he was your strongest common link. However, the conversation then gradually shifted to hockey – what you both liked and disliked about the sport. And soon, you found yourselves sharing personal details, discussing your upbringing and your personal stories.
Auston even laughed when you shared childhood stories about you and Willy, talking about the times when you gave him advice about girls during your teenage years. He then reciprocated by sharing stories from their road trips and the challenges of growing up while playing in the NHL. He delved into tales about his family, highlighting how supportive they had always been, and mentioned being the protective brother and the struggles he faced in finding close friends with whom he could form genuine bonds.
And this sudden display of vulnerability started to alter your perception of him, if only slightly. As you continued gliding across the ice, maintaining your closeness, Auston began discussing how many people in his life had come and gone, primarily seeking his friendship for the sake of public recognition.
You found yourself developing a small soft spot for him as he gradually opened up, revealing a side you had never seen before, one that he probably never showed to the team or to many others. And despite having tried to maintain a distance from him, you slowly came to realise that you did, in fact, know Auston quite well. You understood that he wasn't comfortable discussing emotions or engaging in heartfelt conversations, so this talk was a significant step for him.
Eventually, both of you skated to the edge of the rink to pause for a moment, a brief silence settling between you before you decided to break it with a soft sigh.
"Is that why you said those things about me when Willy first introduced me to the team?" you looked up at him, facing each other, both resting a hand on the border. "That I only wanted to be close friends with him because of fame."
Auston understood exactly what you meant, and you were spot on. That had indeed been his initial thought about you when you re-entered the life of one of his best friends.
With a gentle nod, he softly replied, "Yes."
Another quiet moment settled between you, and it became evident what this misunderstanding had truly been about. Auston's initial desire to shield Willy from a potentially damaging friendship, and your perception of him as cocky and arrogant because of his defensive stance from the start.
Once again, your eyes locked, a bit more intensely this time, as you both felt the opportunity to break free from this tension between you.
"Well, I hope I managed to prove you wrong then," you sighed softly, offering him a sweet, friendly smile.
And Auston simply matched your expression. "You did," he replied.
With a few shared light laughs, the profound tension suddenly dissipated. And a new sensation seemed to grow between you both – perhaps even a potential friendship.
But just as everything seemed to settle into a comfortable rhythm, someone suddenly appeared out of nowhere and forcefully crashed into you, causing you to fall over and straight into Auston, who lost his footing and ended up falling backward onto his back, pulling you along with him. In the midst of the fall, you accidentally collided, your head hitting his face, resulting in both of you letting out loud yells.
"Fuck!" Auston shouted.
"Shit, Aus, are you okay?"
Your head was spinning from the adrenaline rush.
"Yeah, I think I'm good... how about you?"
"Well, I did land quite softly," you tried to offer a light chuckle, prompting Auston to do the same.
And slowly, with a bit of assistance from the stranger who had accidentally bumped into you, both of you managed to regain your footing. However, your attention snapped back to Auston as you noticed something alarming.
"Fuck, your nose is bleeding!"
Auston touched his nose, confirming that it was indeed bleeding from the collision.
"Come on, let's get out of here," you suggested, gently taking his hand as you both stepped off the ice and made your way to sit on a nearby bench.
Auston tried to lean back to prevent too much bleeding, while you gently guided him and then applied a piece of tissue to his nose. Thankfully, you had had the foresight to have a package in your pocket, though not specifically for situations like this, it turned out to be quite practical.
Sitting closely on the bench, you carefully wiped the blood off his nose, feeling a twinge of guilt despite knowing the accident wasn't your fault. And Auston's intense gaze focused on you as you attended to him.
"I guess this wasn't how you thought your date would be," he chuckled.
"Maybe not," you gently smiled back. "But despite the blood, I actually think it's been a rather fun day," you softly admitted, meeting his eyes.
Auston reciprocated your smile, feeling your gentle touch close to his face.
"He's an idiot, you know, for blowing you off like this," he gently spoke, causing you to pause and look up at him.
"Thanks, but I suppose it's just my luck… you were right, I've dated so many guys, and although I promised myself never to give up on love, it's just not always easy," you softly admitted.
"Hey, it's his loss – I mean, you're... sweet, funny, and quite good-looking, so if he doesn't want to date you, he’s the one missing out. You shouldn't feel bad about it."
"You really think so?"
"Yeah... I mean... I know I haven't always treated you nicely, but... I've always thought you were hot," Auston chuckled.
"You're not too shabby yourself," you flashed him a sweet smile, eliciting another laugh from him.
As you sat closely together amidst the vibrant winter wonderland in the heart of Toronto, both of you couldn't help but feel a sense of connection.
It felt odd.
It was as if all previous tension had vanished. You were now just two individuals, engaged in pleasant conversation, enjoying each other's company.
And Auston finally understood what William saw in you. He had never felt this comfortable opening up and expressing his thoughts to someone. No one had ever made him feel so at ease and relaxed during a heartfelt conversation like you. You were certainly something else.
But then clearing your throat, you broke the intense gaze you shared.
"Perhaps I should better get going... it's getting late, and I shouldn't be keeping you from your friends like this," you timidly suggested, looking down at your hands for a moment before beginning to unlace your skates.
With a nod, Auston followed suit, swiftly changing back into regular shoes. Standing with your skates in hand, you exchanged a sweet smile before an unexpected surge of confidence propelled you to lean in and plant a timid kiss on his cheek.
"Thank you, Auston... I really enjoyed spending time with you today," you softly expressed, while tucking a strand of hair behind your ear.
"You're welcome," he replied, exhaling softly.
But then as you turned to walk away, an unexpected desire to keep you close surged within Auston. And with his free hand, he swiftly caught yours, drawing you back toward him, pressing his chest against yours before tenderly kissing your lips.
The kiss was gentle, yet both of you found yourselves leaning slightly into it. Auston dropped his skates, using his hand to cup your face, holding you just a little closer, before slowly pulling apart.
You exhaled deeply, confusion mingling with a pleasant sensation, ultimately giving way to a smile.
"So, I guess this means we're good?" you tentatively joked.
"Yeah... and the next date you're going on will be with me," Auston stated firmly, wearing a wide grin.
"God, you're way too confident," you teased, playfully rolling your eyes at him.
"Maybe, but I know you like it," he countered, raising an eyebrow before leaning in to connect your lips once again.

Our pure-hearted, all-loving hero... he can be a little brat (especially back in OS/early in his journey, when he was much more of a hot-blooded boy hero), but his heart's worth its weight in solid gold and he grows into such a kind, patient character with strong ideals, which is why Hero of Ideals suits him best (even the movie manga opted to adapt that version of the movie, rather than the one where Ash is Hero of Truth, and expanded on it!)
[I hope you have "long post" and "image heavy" muted if you need to, because this post's a doozy and given tumblr, if my blog's ever deleted, posts with read mores will be rendered inaccessible forever, so I don't like to make them!]
A lot of people complained about how young Ash looked in BW! (and complained even more about Sun & Moon's very divisive art style... and we wound up seeing great growth for his love of a whole region, and achieved a goal integral to achieving his dreams), but from the first episode of BW!, my first impression was of how mature and calm Ash is with Iris and Trip in regards to their initially abrasive and varingly aloof personalities.
Iris was friendlier and more excitable, more childlike, but Ash took her barbs in stride and patiently waited for her to open up about her dreams (she keeps it secret in the first episode, using that cute, childish word "naisho" instead of saying it's a secret "himitsu"--the same childish word she uses when asked about what Kairyuu/Dragonite told her in their reunion episode) and background (we don't know she ran away from the academy or what her hometown was like until season 2!)
Tumblr media
The way Ash handled Tory (who was a traumatized, younger child--and Ash wanted to fight him at first, before understanding him!), Lucario (also traumatized, insulted Ash and Pikachu's bond--Ash fought him and fell off a hill, wrestling with him, before he saw Lucario's memory of being "abandoned" and broke down in tears, apologizing for what he said when he didn't know anything...), Chimchar (a traumatized Pokemon, Ash was patient, kind, and loving to him, even when he lashed out while out of control due to Blaze, which he previously could only use to save his life...), etc., is very different from how he handled Iris (who was bullied subtly by being completely ostracized, no one would sit or eat or play with her at the academy, she was so depressed, she stopped eating--this is canon and not lingered on, but she plainly says it and that her dorm mother making her food that would remind her of home, just berries skewered on a stick, "saved her") and even Trip.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(By the way, Ash apologizing to Lucario, in tears of regret over what he said to Lucario when he didn't understand him is when I first started to truly love and respect Ash's character and growth! Before that, I really was only a big fan of the TRio.)
Tumblr media
By contrast to those rockier beginnings with other kids, Ash was patient and encouraging with Trip, even while Trip purposefully kept him and everyone else (even his Pokemon who loved him, as Alder said...) at bay and rejected all his attempts at friendship, before he got the answers he needed from Alder and slowly stopped shutting others out. He had every right to lash out at Trip for making fun of him, but kept trying to befriend him and showed interest in his journey and growth.
(Trip was also his youngest main rival at that point, even if he is a very book-smart child prodigy type who was an excellent battler from the start, he still fell apart in front of unexpected, unorthodox techniques like Bell/Bianca and Satoshi/Ash's out-of-the-box strategies.)
Naturally, there's also his very patient and encouraging bond with Lillie, who also had her trauma-induced fear of Pokemon (much like Tory!) and dissociative amnesia, the early loss of her father in infancy, and the distance between her and her mother (too wrapped-up in work and her obsession with Ultra Beasts to notice her own child's trauma and falling behind her peers...) to overcome, but the focus of this post is BW! I already write a lot about Lillie, she's another favourite of mine. <3
It's worth noting, too, that Pikachu was Ash's first "problem Pokemon"... even if it's usually the Fire types who are traumatized, Pikachu has abandonment issues like Chimchar and Tepig did. Pikachu famously hates being inside a pokeball and Ash always repesects this boundary and becomes very, very upset in XY when he believed Pikachu was forced into a pokeball... the pokeball factory episode was, otherwise, a very light-hearted episode, but Pikachu's boundaries and possible trauma is taken seriously.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This scene mirrors a similar breakdown Alain has when he finds out all he's done, under the impression he was protecting his loved ones, was aiding Lysandre's genocidal plans... both smash their fists into hard surfaces, blaming themselves for failing to protect loved ones.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In a very early Kanto episode, Sparks Fly for Magnemite, we learn Pikachu has abandonment issues so bad, he doesn't want to be separated from Ash for even an overnight stay in the Pokemon Center. It seems Pikachu (fortunately) quickly become much more secure in his bond with Ash and no longer fears being separated for medical treatment, but this is very, very sad and telling!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Although we never delve very deeply into that for most of the series... (an early magazine scan has Ookido-hakase/Professor Oak theorize Pikachu's previous trainer abandoned it), we were finally given some answers late in series!
Tumblr media
In the AU movie, Pikachu says* his reason for not going into the pokeball: "It's because I always want to be with you." ;O;
... unless this is a dream or hallucination, given Ash is on the verge of unconsciousness when it happens--but if we really want to believe it happened, maybe his latent Aura post-cognition abailities kicked in and he understood Pikachu's feelings, like when Victini slept in his lap, crying, and Ash saw Victini's dream of his past.
As for the main series canon, in the first episode of Pocket Monsters 2019 (Pokemon Journeys), we learn Ash's Pikachu was a lone, possibly orphaned, Pichu, who was briefly raised by a Kangaskhan, carried in her pouch with her child, until he grew too heavy and quietly left at night (without saying goodbye) to live by his own strength, evolving into Pikachu as he did so.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If Lusamine not taking Lillie's (because they're irrational or not logical) feelings seriously gave her a complex where she always needed to claim her stances are "logical" even when they're based in emotion... I wonder what it tells us that "child prodigy" Trip defaulting to blaming his loss to Alder on him doing something wrong or being inherently lacking ("What did I do wrong? What do I lack?"), because he doesn't ever consider a simple difference in experience is all it is... that Alder's many years of wisdom and Pokemon training give him an advantage over rookie trainer Trip, who's shown to be averse to being called a "child" (Iris ropes him into battling Ash twice by calling him a kid), because he always has to prove he's an adult. He thinks there's something inherently "lacking" in him or "wrong" about his method if he doesn't achieve.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
All of that is canon, but if you further analyze his character, Trip has a superiority complex, which is very often a defense mechanism to mask feelings of inferiority. He canonically places a lot of worth in the image he projects and constantly puts down others. Add that to being a child prodigy and his preoccupation with proving he's an adult (but doesn't bat an eyelid at someone calling him "unjust" for his violent methods in the Venipede episode, like he's already accepted being a terrible person, because he thinks striving for peace like idealistic Ash is "naive"--Trip has a very cynical view of adults, yet thinks of himself as such...)
Trip only cares to be seen as strong and mature, not good (he's not even surprised to be called bad, he's already accepted it, he doesn't care), and if he fails, he blames his lack of knowledge or his inherent nature as lacking.
Because his self-worth is in being a genius and being better than the rest, so he seeks outside validation, namely Alder's, who Trip behaves so jealously about, Alder canonically compares him to a fickle-hearted woman (well, he messes up the phrase 'Onna-gokoro to haru no sora.' "A woman's heart is as fickle as the sky of spring" because he was hitting on Junsa-san/Officer Jenny earlier, so he says "fickle as Junsa-san"... Freudian slip. ^^;;;;)
Trip, when asked what he was battling for, what he wanted to prove... he said it was to prove his strength to Alder.
Tumblr media
That's all he wanted! To prove his strength and be acknowledged by his hero. Alder even asks him if he likes him. Adeku frankly asks it in the Japanese version, but the dub dances around with "do you have any admiration for a man such as myself"--which Trip doesn't answer verbally, although he really doesn't have to, because the scene makes it clear and is a lens that clarifies all his past behaviour.
That's all Trip wants: love and acknowledgement. Which he believed he could only get by becoming stronger, smarter, and more mature as fast as possible, likely taking Alder's to be some stronger and grow up quickly too literally, as head animator Iwane said, Shootie was just "a little too grown-up."
Tumblr media
It takes a long, long time for Trip to unlearn prioritizing battles over anything else and to embrace childhood (which hey, is one of the main themes of BW!), because it's a precious time which we can never return to... so, Alder's current idealogy is to enjoy life, make friends, love Pokemon, and not dwell on the past. Ash's approach to being a Pokemon Champion and Master is the same.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Alder's introductory episode made it very clear he and Ash are very, very similar characters... and we see this again in Journeys, in the kind of advice Champion Ash gives younger kids. Ash and Alder have a similar wisdom they'd like to impart, I know, it's funny calling Ash wise, but he has high emotional intelligence and is incredibly wise in that respect for his age... it took Alder many, many long years to arrive at the same conclusion Ash reached.
Tumblr media
Ash's Japanese name, Satoshi, means "Wisdom." (Another cute detail: Ash's little brother, Lei, whose Hawaiian name means a "Garland of Flowers-- in Japanese, would be pronounced as Rei, which also means "Wisdom." Lei likely has a name chosen to have meaning in both Hawaiian and Japanese. ^^)
Bonus shout-out to Ash, Iris, and Cilan all protecting Keldeo until he finds the courage to face his fears, correct his mistakes, and save his friends...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ash is a very good friend, AG, DP, and BW! are all part of his development into the kinder character he became today. Some people might miss how rude he was to his friends in OS, but he can still playfully dish it out, he's just calmer and more sure of himself, so less likely to sweat the small stuff and recognizes when someone, whether Pokemon or trainer, just needs time and patience.

She Loves to Cook, and She Loves to Eat 2 Eps 17-20 (Finale)
Last week gave me everything I wanted and more. The whole squad went over to Yako's place for a curry party and everyone had a great time. Later, Nagumo got a diagnosis for her condition and got to have personal time with Yako. Kasuga and Nomoto continued to work on their communication and making sure they aren't trampling over each other. They're continuing to work on this move. Seriously, we had a curry party and a s'mores party last week. We planted strawberries together. Let's finish this.
Episode 17
Looking for housing is so stressful. I was wondering if we'd get into housing discrimination in this.
Red beans in Japan are different from what we eat here. Theirs carry a naturally sweet profile that doesn't mesh well with creole cooking.
I feel like those beans needed to boil longer, but that's me thinking in my home cooking terms.
Yes, ladies, tell each other how happy you are to see each other.
@furritsubs thank you for the note about Azuki beans.
I'm really enjoying the way they're handling this situation. The realtor wasn't trying to be homophobic, but the systems he was upholding with the landlord references reinforces the status of same sex households. I also like that they acknowledged how circumstances closet people in ways that hurt them. This is good payoff from the news bit we saw earlier in season with Kasuga.
Getting a tasty treat in before going back into the fray is so valid.
Kasuga being even more affectionate about Nomoto's food now that they're dating is exactly what I wanted.
Episode 18
Oh fuck yeah, let's continue to unpack how structural homophobia makes people scared to share something that should be a joyous occasion.
Amused that Yako is the primary person using Nomoto's given name.
Are we going to have a takoyaki party next??
COME THROUGH, YAKO!!! You gotta help your folks get through this bullshit, but never let them forget that it's bullshit!!
I am relieved that we checked in with Ms. Fujita about divorcing her husband at the same time as we're working through LGBT housing issues. Single divorced women likely also face huge challenges in housing when marriage is the goal we're being pushed into.
Wow, Sayama, you are in contention for the Yihwa Best Girl Award this year. You are an ally. Love the way she examined how what she said might have been hurtful.
Feeling like you somehow failed because you didn't get married in your 20s is so real. I sometimes struggle with this in my 30s.
This show uses its characters to illustrate its political points in a way that feels gentle and accessible, but also carries a sense of urgency. Women are facing extreme reproductive pressure right now, and it's clearly not making those who don't already want husbands and children happier. Hell, it's making them resentful to the point of divorce as they get older.
Hold on. Gotta cry a bit about Nomoto telling Kasuga that being told outright that hiding who they are upset her made her feel better got me.
Episode 19
Takoyaki Party let's goooooo!!!
A party where you cook together like this is always so much fun. We had fun with some friends' kids a few weeks ago teaching them how to make pancakes and letting them add their own toppings before, during, and after cooking.
Nagumo managed to enjoy a bite of food with them. Hold on. Crying again.
We've seen takoyaki a few times lately, and I am very impressed with this cooker.
Yako, tactful as always, is gonna check on Nagumo. I love her.
This is so important. Couple formation does affect the friends around them, and I'm really glad Yako let Nagumo voice that she supports her friends even as she knows she's going to miss the dynamic they've had. Yako is so right to point out that a change doesn't mean it's over, and their friendship will last if we all continue to reach out.
This realtor scene is so good. I like how politely she asked for them to disclose their relationship with the express purpose of securing ideal housing, and we're getting into how the financing of housing can affect people's privacy. She's also owning that landlords can discriminate against couples. I also appreciate that their meeting room was private.
I'm ready for the moving in party!
Episode 20
They got the house!!
A crab cream croquette party!!!
Wait, where's Nagumo? I wanted her to try a croquette too!
We are on the bed together. This is not a drill.
Yes, let's acknowledge that they have liked each other since season 1.
The intimacy question is on the floor!
They are finally hugging!
NOW KISS!!!
That was very sweet, and felt right for them. I'm glad they had that moment in the old place before they moved.
Cried because of Ms. Fujita and Nagumo possibly getting hired.
So glad Yako and Nagumo are still hanging out! That's really how some friends groups will be. Two people will just gel at a party and grow close.
Oh hell yeah we're at casual intimacy now.
I'm so excited to see where the TV goes next season!!
Oh my goodness Kasuga is wearing a lighter sweater!!!!!!
Final Verdict: 10, Go Watch This Immediately and Then Show it to a Friend. Seriously, do not make excuses for yourself. You owe it to yourself to watch this show. Between this, Ossan's Love Returns, and What Did You Eat Yesterday? coming back, we cannot stop supporting our shows about older people getting together and forming their own forms of family. This show built on the foundation of its first season and made every little detail feel so potent and impactful. I did not expect the pen pal to grow into a trusted confidant and core member of this friend group, nor was I expecting the women at the supermarket to help Kasuga as much as they did. This season was excellent, and will be joining WDYEY on my comfort watch rotation.
Big thanks to @furritsubs and friends for making this watch possible.

Inspo: Emile Mosseri - Jacob and the Stone
Pairing: Maddy Perez x Gn!reader
Summary: The stone that stood tall and would never full leave her memory...
Tumblr media
Warnings: Angst throughout with mentions of suicide.
Words: 1770
DNI IF YOU’RE YOUNGER THAN 18!
There was this stone Maddy used to go to.
Somewhere in the density of a forest right outside of Highland. Practically resting near the long breaks of the open countryside, this place resided.
It’d been a complete chance that she came to this location. Her car broke down with her friends and their goal to live the night up was still on the list of plans. So, they ventured into this forest and found this large stone.
She remembers Cassie being a ruckus and being the emotional drunk she was. Lexi was reserved and just talked with Kat. Rue and Jules were holding one another. But Maddy found you staring at this stone, perplexed or fascinated by it.
Maddy remembers you dragging your hand across the texture of the rock. Lips twitched faintly as the tips of your fingers gently caught the grooves; scars of its past and present. And something about it made you say, “It’s beautiful.”
Everyone knew you found beauty in the strangest of places. If it is some random obscured painting or one of those poems you would write in your free time–there was nothing you couldn’t find positives in. It had been what made Maddy fall in love with you in the first place.
And she remembers how you looked back at her. A look in your eye that was almost contentful. Like something had been decided the moment you saw this large stone. You had said, “If I ever die, I want to be buried here. I’ll even write it in my will.”
She punched your arm for saying something like that. Warning you that she would be the one to do the job if you brought something like that up. You smiled and laughed. And she remembers your arms curling around her and holding her against your chest tightly. Your face tucked in her hair where you pressed gentle kisses.
That had only been a week before everything happened. That was the last memory she had of you before you were gone. Swept up and taken wherever was after this life. And now, even after all these years, she hadn’t been able to bring herself to go back to that forest–to relive that moment all over again in a place that she imagine still had your lingering presence.
Today, it was the anniversary of your death. So, with the urging encouragement of Lexi and Rue, she drove up to the forest. She walked amongst the trees that the further she got, blocked out the sun that had been beating down on her since she got back from Highland. It left a massive veil between her and the outside world that hoped hadn’t desecrated this sacred land.
Then she finally arrived at the stone. It stood tall- maybe even taller than she had once realized. Its exterior was jaded–chips having fallen off from years of weather conditioning. And in a traditional fashion, your initials were etched into its face. Your name, your birthday and the day of your passing. Each letter and number is rough around the edges, but perfect as its own; much like you.
Flowers were scattered around the marked grave. Much of them came from friends that had specifically come down to visit and pay respects to you. There were postcards from Jules; she believed that in some way, they might make it to you somehow. There were stuffies from Rue who knew of your unhealthy obsession with said items. Lexi left some of your favourite books from your guys’ friendship being built from that.
But Maddy had nothing to offer. Perhaps she thought her visit was enough considering the time she’d pushed to avoid the inevitable.
Exhaling heavily, she forced a smile. “Hey, baby.”
She sat beside the grave with the faint outline of where it had been dug. She clasped her hands together, saying, “I would ask you how you were doing, but I think we both know that would just be stupid of me.”
Painful silence. She didn’t know what to say. What was there to honestly say? You had given up. Maybe you lost sight of the beauty in this world. Lost all hope for society and decided to clock out before you saw anything get worse. Or maybe you had been depressed the whole time but she was too blind to see it. People wore masks–some of who no one would expect. Maybe you were a part of that few.
But since you left, she tried to keep to what she had been before you left–be the person that you loved. So, she wasn’t going to try and beat around the bush with any fruitless questions or statements. “I want to say you left because you couldn’t handle living anymore. But somehow-” she laughed, shaking her head. “-something tells me your sick mind thought that becoming one with the earth was beautiful, huh? I mean, we both know that’s how your mind worked.”
In some way, with your passing, she felt like she had finally grown as close as she could get to you. With your family left in shambles from your death, Maddy had taken it upon herself to be the one to pack your belongings up. Place your clothes in boxes, trinkets in boxes, and all the little handwritten notes that lined your walls. And on the final day, there was only one poem left and she just sat in the center of your room and stared at it. Then she cried. Harder than she ever thought she could. She screamed and fought against the harsh grasp of reality that was; once she took that final paper, you were officially gone. You would be gone from her life forever.
But from time to time, when she came down to Highland to visit her parents, she stopped by your family’s house. She had dinner with them, talked about life, made plans for future holidays and then she would ask to look at the boxes.
There would always be a silence that fell over the kitchen. The uneven breaths from your mother who would purse her lips, forcing a broken smile that could crack as she grabbed Maddy’s hands and hold them tightly. Which would always be contradictory because of the tears in her eyes. And your mom would always say, “Honey, don’t ever feel like you need to ask.”
And your dad would sit there quietly, avoiding eye contact that could betray the tough exterior he had to keep. When, in fact, the wound of your passing was still fresh and it would always stay that way. No child is supposed to go before their parents.
But you did. You defied every expectation; good and bad. You believed in most people who didn’t deserve it. You found lessons in situations you had labelled, “misconstrued control”. Each of those lessons made you grow and in any way you could, you tried to pass this knowledge on to others. But you gave up and in Maddy’s mind and that substituted everything else out. Your action to leave so soon was unforgivable to her.
You gave up when things were getting good for the two of you. When your guys’ story was starting to pick up make things interesting.
“I started reading some of those poems you had taped up on your walls.” A faint smile twitched on her lips. “They almost looked like etchings of thoughts you never said to me.” Maddy’s lips trembled. She remembered clearing out your room and spending hours sitting in the center of that room. Unable to take her eyes off of all the deep and meaningful quotes that you were so infatuated with. If she’d known that she returned to your house in her dreams, finding you standing and staring at each poem with a smile, she would’ve never laid a foot inside that room.
Bowing her head slightly as she swayed. Sniffling harshly, she said, “If you must die, I’ll envy even the earth that wraps around your body.” Her tearful eyes lifted to the inscription of your name carved meaningfully into the boulder. Face twisting with her voice giving way. “And I fucking miss you, Y/n. I hate knowing something else will give you warmth when I could’ve filled that spot for you.”
Her voice cracked. A sob fell from her lips. “I shouldn’t be sad. You fucking left me!” She fell to her hands, slowly lowering herself where blades of grass brushed across her rosy cheeks that kissed the earth. Her body trembled as she sought the feeling of your arms once more. Fingers delving into the dirt, hoping to find your hands interlocking with hers the further she reached. “But I want you here. Even in my dreams, I just want one more day with you.”
It was a distant and unforgeable wish, she knew that. But she was desperate. She had to wake up most nights and cry herself back to sleep because that would be the only way to reunite with you once more. Through the pain, she was healed by your smile. And she trying to find a middle ground between acceptance and refusal.
But that was the thing–no one can have both. When someone is gone, we can’t do anything to bring them back. And with time, we will heal. It’ll hurt like hell and it’ll feel like that wound will always be open, but that’s what comes with acceptance. And when we least expect it, when we find someone that makes our hearts skip a beat like the person before once did, we’ll realize how far we’ve come. How much pain we were able to take and keep moving forward.
It's a sign to try again.
And it hurt Maddy to admit it, but she wanted to keep going. Keep you close to her heart, but far enough that she was allowed to think about the good times instead of the worst.
And what helped was for her to think about how your mind worked–your beliefs that she never could wrap her head around. With time, she learned more about herself and where she stood on the unappreciated qualities of life and the world she lived in. Maddy believed that in some alternate reality, the both of you were still together and thriving. And acknowledging that was beautiful in its own way because she got to experience it for some time–a small sliver compared to a counterpart, but still a gift. But a different version of her would feel it until her last breath.
Something like that was poetic, wasn’t it?

The importance of self love in BNHA
Bnha has themes of forgiveness, redemption, friendship, and love (not just romantic! Platonic and family love too),but I think one of the most important aspects of the series is the lesson of self love and self acceptance. The first characters I think of when I say this are Toga and Katsuki, but it's very apparent in a lot of the characters and their development.
Katsuki's journey of self worth:
Katsuki's arc of self acceptance is something I've talked about before, but I think it's important to bring up self love just as much. Because, obviously,Katsuki hated himself in the beginning of the series. Like most bullies insecurity was the biggest reason behind his mistreatment of others. (This doesn't excuse or justify those actions though! It's an explanation, not an excuse) But,he's come a long way from this,he's grown to see other's worth and his OWN. I think one of the most underrated Katsuki moments is in chapter 358 (it's probably because he died a couple chapters after this that it wasn't as talked about as much)
Tumblr media
Katsuki himself knows he's different,he understands that he's grown to be better. He's accepted himself. And he doesn't HATE accepting himself,if anything he's proud of it. This is where self love comes into play. Obviously Katsuki's been on a rather difficult journey in accepting his weakness/shortcomings,but with chapter 404 that's when I feel we start seeing the real,100% authentic,Katsuki.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Since Katsuki saved All Might he's been able to accept himself, love him self. And this is IMPORTANT. With Ochako's goal to show how heroes/villains are humans and need to be treated as such, that they deserve love and support, self love would be important, because Katsuki isn't just accepting himself as a hero, but as a person.
Hand Hold:
This is one of the reasons the hand hold between Izuku and Katsuki is SO important. Izuku doesn't think of himself as a human,he's so selfless that it's a negative trait for him. When Katsuki and Izuku have the hand hold in the movie,it's Katsuki taking Izuku's lead,to SAVE to win, this hand hold would be Izuku following Katsuki's lead to seeing himself as human, accepting himself, and loving himself. If we think of the past chapters and when it brings up Katsuki,Izuku is following his lead.
Tumblr media
When previously Katsuki was following Izuku's lead. That's why 'save to win' is so important. They're two halves of one whole. They embody the extreme of both sides of the heroic spectrum. One of them wants to win,the other wants to save, and they're the strongest when they do both. The only time they're even stronger than that is when they're working together. This wraps up BOTH of their character arcs. Since Katsuki first started his self loathing when a quirkless Izuku reached out to him,and to completely accept his weakness and past,he has to take quirkless Izuku's hand.
And for Izuku to feel comfort and support as a human,to feel self love, and to see himself as more than a hero but as he has to take the hand of the person closest to him. Katsuki's hand. (Not my words,Afo/shiggy said it!)
Tumblr media
Ochako's Hero Journey:
Ochako started being a hero for monetary gain, since she grew up poor and wanted to help her parents. But,she's matured and grown up a lot since then (NOT SAYING WANTING TO HELP YOUR PARENTS IS CHILDISH,I'M JUST SAYING SHE HAS MORE PERSPECTIVE NOW) and now she wants to save/protect the heroes and the villains,to show their humanity. (Which is such a beautiful message that gets overlooked for Ochako's character a lot).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But,of course,Ochako isn't only teaching self love, she's learning it. I feel her crush on Izuku made her want to be selfless, just like him,but she realized Izuku was a HUMAN,not just hero Deku, and she wanted to save him. She admired Izuku so much she felt she had to be like him, which of course she ended up hurting herself because of.
Tumblr media
I feel her falling out of love with Izuku shows how much she's become her OWN person and hero, which is what I think Horikoshi's approach was when writing her. Unlike the usual female character who's only important because she's a love interest (in shonen most of the time),Ochako has proven herself as a hero, not just a love interest. Which, instead of being in love with Izuku, she has self love. Now,Toga! Her being in love with Toga is important to the concept of self love as well. Since they're supposed to parallel one another,Ochako falling in love with a villain, someone she wants to protect and save, this is Ochako's hero story, and Toga completes this for her.
Tumblr media
With Toga saving Ochako looking like a mix of them is showing Toga's love for Ochako, and vice versa,so it's them loving themselves, accepting themselves.
Tumblr media
Toga calling back to the whole "I'm weird" is them both accepting themselves and each other. I mean, their whole fight was about talking about and accepting their feelings. About loving themselves and each other.
Tumblr media
These four really show the arc of self love and acceptance that makes this story so GOOD. I also feel this is why so many queer people enjoy Bnha and resonate with these characters.

Rambling about Fairies - Manga Chapter 200
Warning: generally negative.
Tumblr media
And so the decharacterisation of Juvia begins. Like, I get that Gray was the reason she broke out of her rain woman slump and all, but her new hairstyle and her friendships within the guild came from Lucy and Cana. Why does everything get reset all the way to Phantom era just because of Gray?
I feel like this could've been some kind of deep character building moment in the long term-- it could have been Juvia realizing she was being overdependent on Gray because the second he discards her (he wasn't holding on to her particularly to begin with) she dissolves back into being socially inept. It could've been her moment to go from focusing on Gray to focusing on herself and her own goals. Does she return to this form because it's the one that Gray saved? Did she want his attention again, so she reverted, so Gray could save her again? I wish it went in that direction, because then there would be something. But there wasn't. This was just Mashima's brand of humour, and it's what begins Fairy Tail's downward spiral.
Which is ridiculous! She spent so much time away from them in Nirvana and Edolas and was fine until Happy told her about Edolas Gruvia!
It's so unhealthy and I wish I could be joking right now, but I can't. It isn't even portrayed as negative unlike her usual stalker shenanigans. God forbid, when it happened in Avatar it was entirely stated that Gray was the one that needed to be brought back to their side because Juvia's not okay without him. Sure, Gray needed to be brought home, but no one mentions how Juvia is way too fucking dependent on her man that she's somehow completely unable to take care of herself once he's gone! She made herself sick and wandered about like a zombie without any meaning left in her!
What did she spend so many months in the guild for, if she somehow never experienced family enough to remember it after Gray left? Even Phantom Lord taught her the meaning of 'being accepted regardless of your flaws/baggage' and you're telling me Fairy Tail gave her nothing except crippling overdependence on Gray?
When did she become someone that only lived for Gray? Where is my strong and brutal, desperate to prove herself, confident, self-sacrificing shy girl? Where is the girl that just wanted Cana to accept her, where is the girl that hurt herself to save Gray from Meredy, where is the girl that brought Gajeel to Fairy Tail because she didn't want him to be alone after Phantom disbanded? Where is the girl that, when mind-controlled, cried because she didn't want to hurt Lucy anymore? Where is she?
I really feel like this moment and the later Avatar situation could've been a character building moment to enrich both her and Gruvia as a dynamic. Rather than Avatar completely tuning all the blame on Gray, it should've been a moment where Juvia herself went to save Gray and bring him home. She proves her place later on, during the Water Make moment--- but that's about her love for Gray. What about her pride as a member of Fairy Tail, as family, as Juvia Lockser, the strong and independent rain girl that now knows the sun? Where the fuck is she, Mashima? Why were we robbed of the moment where Juvia, after growing as a member of Fairy Tail, went and brought Gray home to a place that would accept him after he turned to the dark side? Where is Juvia bringing Gray into the sun to bring their development and relationship full circle? Why is Gruvia going up and down like a cheese grater?

I was thinking about it, and I started wondering what exactly is so appealing about damianya.
Twiyor is equally well written, I think, but I actually prefer the former (though I love both!). That's just because of preference and my appreciation for enemies to lovers. HOWEVER I have decided to draft up an analysis pinpointing why damianya is so enticing, because I write my own original material, and I think you can gain a lot of valuable insight by reverse engineering good writing.
First of all: What is the definition of a good romantic relationship?
I will use the following guidelines:
1) Based off of genuine friendship
2) Both are willing to sacrifice for the other and
3) Both parties make the other a better person.
The first guideline I outlined is big here. Because they are kids, they obviously should not be in a full on romantic relationship now. As a matter of fact, they will probably be waiting AT LEAST eight years. At least.
This means they have eight years to develop a true and wholesome friendship. A friendship with no romantic ulterior motives. They just get to enjoy being kids and growing up with one another. Because of this, they will see each other's high AND low points, rather than viewing the other with rose tinted lenses. Yes, maybe one of them (cough Damian) gets butterflies and feels flustered every time they see the other. But for now, it is very innocent and immature, a childish crush. By framing the goal for this relationship as FRIENDSHIP rather than ROMANCE, the two are able to develop a deeper understanding and a more complete picture of each other before they take anything to the next level.
Does the second point even need to be addressed? Anya is willing to take a tonitrus bolt for him. She is willing to stand up for him (well, technically for the "mission" but we'll get to that later). Damian is willing to take a hit for her, whether it be a dodgeball or a literal bomb. He gives her his share of the macaron (which he believes could help him with his intelligence.) He spends time he could be using to study to locate the finest teacakes in the world so he can give them to her.
Now to the third point.
When we first meet Damian, we don't like him. He is a classist jerk. So karma hits him (literally) in the form of Cupid's arrow. By developing a crush on Anya, he is learning that he should not treat others differently because they have less money. He becomes a better person by learning that "commoners" are the same as all the rich students at Eden.
Side tangent: while I relate more to Damian academic wise, aka pushing myself probably too far to get good grades, I'm sure we can all personally relate to Anya. She tries a lot of things. She fails at almost all of them. Thus, by seeing someone who is academically accomplished and rich be infatuated with her just for being herself, we start to realize that those things don't matter as much as we sometimes feel. Therefore, we want Damian to like her, because it is sweet. It is sweet that someone who places value on things like high academics is able to see past that and appreciate someone else for different good qualities, rather than the ones society deems most important. ~
When Anya first meets Damian, we cannot fault her for disliking him. He is rude to her because she is in a lower social class than him. She is rude to him because he is mean to her. This is perfectly reasonable. In the beginning, it would not make her a better person to be friends with him; as a matter of fact, avoiding him would probably be the high road in this situation. If I were her, I would not have wanted to be friends with him at all.
Side tangent 2:
If you like damianya, you are probably fond of Anya. And of Damian. This is true for me. He's my favorite sxf character. The reason WHY we are fond of him is because we know his backstory. We know he is actually a sweet little guy who just wants to be loved. So we also want him to succeed in his friendship with Anya.
However, though she may have picked up bits and pieces through her mind reading, Anya does not know this. And even if she did, she likely wouldn't understand the levity of it. She's only 4 or 5. ~
Damian and Anya have developed since they first met. They ARE friends (or close to it, anyways). So while at first it wouldn't have made Anya a better person to genuinely care about Damian, now it would.
Because we know Damian and care about him, we also want Anya to care about him. We want her to understand why he acts the way he does. We want her to understand that he actually cares about her.
While Damian is terrible at proving he cares through his words, he is really good at SHOWING her. If she understands he has a different method for showing care, Anya grows. She is able to develop a greater understanding of other people, rather than shaping the world through her own perspective. Framing Damian as the mission makes a lot of sense. She wants her parents to stay together and not get rid of her, and she wants world peace. Of course Anya is not bad for wanting these things. But she will be BETTER when she learns to see things from Damian's pov. She will see the world is not all black and white. She will see that he is not just a mission, and that he is actually as important to her as Yor is to Twilight.
So, conclusively, those are some reasons Damianya is a well written and popular ship. I could also go into detail about how it subverts expectations, likely has future plot relevance (in relation to the story as a whole rather than just a side plot), and is a generally unique and well executed idea. However, for now, I'll leave it at this. I tried to nail down the psychology of what makes it appealing to us, but if anyone has further insights, please feel free to let me know :) Hope you all have a great day

Let's talk about Hobie turning pink around Miles & Mayday. Why them?
A lot of people have noticed that Hobie turns pink whenever he's in close proximity with or touches Miles.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I love this picture, Gwen just looks so happy that her two best friends are getting along, she's so adorable <3 Look at Miles and Hobies' big ass eyes 😭
This also happens with Mayday Parker
Tumblr media
Now a lot of people believe that Hobie does this around people he cares about or feels affection towards. But if this is true, how come he doesn't turn pink around Gwen or Pavitr?
In his introduction scene, when Hobie and Pavitr are play fighting, Hobie never turns pink, and only turns from his grey color scheme to his original red and blue one. As for Gwen, we see him around her and talking with her multiple times throughout the movie but we never see him turn pink in response to her proximity. We know that Pavitr and Hobie are "very close" and Gwen and he have been roommates for a while as well, so why does his color only change around Miles and Mayday, considering that he didn't even know Miles before?
I headcanon that he turns pink around people he's protective of.
Pavitr and Gwen, two of his best friends, are assimilated enough into the Spider Society to own their own watches, and trustworthy enough to be sent on missions and be out in the field. They work for Miguel and they are completely accepting of the Spider Society's rules. Although Pavitr probably doesn't know about his canon events, considering the fact that he tried to save both Gayatri and Police Inspector Singh, he still is considered a member of the Spider Society, as shown when Jess told Lyla to "contact" the Spider of Earth-50101 (Mumbattan) before sending Gwen there. This supports the idea that Pavitr is a known member and might have even participated in anomaly missions before. Meanwhile, Gwen knows about canon events and still supports Miguel and the Spider Society, going as far as to lie to Miles about the goals of the society and the people in it. Since Hobie obviously does not agree with the society's views or Miguel's, he would also not agree with Pavitr or Gwen on this subject.
However, Miles doesn't know about the Spider Society or canon events yet. He has no idea about the problems with being Spider-man and helped Pavitr save his Police Inspector Singh. Hobie would take this as a sign of independence and self-thought and would definitely appreciate it. I think that Hobie views Miles as a little brother figure, and wants to protect him. He doesn't want Miles to assimilate into the Spider Society and he wants to shield his innocence for as long as possible. Because of this, he feels a connection toward him and this connection is portrayed by his changing of color schemes.
As for Mayday, she's still a baby/toddler that has zero idea of what goes on in the Spider Society. From what we can see, she doesn't even know how to walk or talk yet. Hobie would most definitely view her as a younger sibling and would feel the same obligation to shield her innocence before Miguel assimilates her too into the society. He feels the same connection to Mayday as he does to Miles.
He has a sibling-esque relationship with them and that makes him want to protect them from the Society.
I'm not saying that Hobie doesn't turn pink because of affection, but I don't think thats the only reason behind it. I think there's probably a much deeper emotional connection behind it, because otherwise it wouldn't make much sense as to why he only turns pink around Mayday and Miles because the two are fairly different.
This has been stuck in the back of my head for a long time, cuz I could never really understand why Hobie would feel a connection to Miles and Mayday over Gwen and Pavitr, so this "brotherly" love kind of connection makes more sense to me. I think he feels more of a sibling-like connection to Miles and Mayday compared to how he sees more of a friendship-like connection to Gwen and Pavitr if that makes sense.

Two weeks later, September 16th 2023:
I pushed myself off of my pink covered pillows when I heard my phones, “beacon” alarm erupt on my wooden bedside table. I got the click off of the alarm, not without struggling to opening up my eyes in the process. I clicked back on my phone again to read that it’s currently 8:34am, my head fell back onto my pillows since it's early.
My first game with Barcelona... the thought struck my mind. Today, I will be in the squad going up against Madrid CFF. I am excited and nervous. My heart pumped a little faster thinking about it. I've never been on a new team before outside of Spirit so It feels as if I'm starting over.
Since it is my debut, I know I will not start. There's a possibility that I won't have minutes until I build more chemistry with the team. I don't take offense to this since it's common practice. Throughout training these last few weeks, Joan said he is impressed by how quickly I've adapted to the team and play styles. He complimented me about my dribbling techniques through defenders in order to score a goal. The coach seems to like me a lot, which I appreciate.
Last night I went on a walk with some of my friends here in Barcelona. It was a needed walk throughout the busy city. Which friends did I go with? Esmee, Ingrid, Mapi, Jana, and Bruna.
I've developed a close friendship with those five so far on the team. That doesn't mean I am not making an effort to be close with others Salma and I have plans to hang out soon, but our problem is that we can't decide when due to our schedules outside of the pitch. Patri and Pina have developed letting me in on their inside jokes, which are hilarious.
Everyone on the team has been lovely so far. They've accepted me into their circle and I couldn't be more thankful. I've heard horror stories about clubs not trusting the newbie until they're able to prove themselves. I'm glad that Alexia, my captain, saw my skills through videos and accepted me into the club.
On the walk last night, we all talked about the game against Madrid CFF. We were all excited as playing the sport has been a passion for all of us. However, Esmee noticed the uncertainty plastered on my face.
"Your debut could possibly be tomorrow." Esmee spoke to me as we all walked up the warm lit streets of Barcelona. I turned to look at her on my left with a small smile.
"I know. I'm excited---and nervous. I just want to impress the community, you know?" I spoke. Ingrid, who walked on my right, put her arm around my shoulders in a side hug. "You'll do great if you play tomorrow. We all know you will." She let go as she saw a smile coming from me.
Coming back to my surroundings, I finally got out of bed and walked to my bathroom which connected to the bedroom in my apartment. After brushing my teeth, doing my skincare routine, and brushing my hair. I walked out of my bedroom into the foyer, going to grab ice water in the kitchen to hydrate before the game.
Stepping back into my bedroom, I made my bed which was covered in pink french linen sheets and grabbed my phone before walking to the living room.
Esmee 34mins ago: goedemorgen, it's game day!
I saw Esmee's iMessage notification appear when I turned on my phone notifications. My dimples appeared on my cheeks as I smiled.
Ever since our dinner at La sevia a few weeks ago, we built a habit on saying goodmorning and goodnight to each other when we aren't around each other. This gesture means a lot to me. It reminds me that she is (maybe) thinking about me as much as I think about her.
We don't text or talk all of the time, understanding that we have our own lives, but we always said goodmorning or goodnight to each other even if we haven't talked prior at night or can't talk after in the morning.
La sevia was the last time that Esmee and I hanged out by ourselves. Since, we've had Bruna or other Barcelona girls tag along with us to hang out. I didn't mind but I knew we had to spend time together again, just the two of us.
Y/n 2secs ago: goedemorgen Esmee, I'm excited!
I responded to the dutch girl.
After eating breakfast which consisted of some oatmeal, fruit salad, iced espresso, and a small protein shake, I watched some TV then got ready to head over to the Johan Cruyff Stadium.
I knew I had to dress to impress, since I discovered that there will be photographers taking pictures and videos of the squad before they walked into the dressing rooms. They'll do this to update and gain social media attraction before the game.
Esmee Brugts and Ona Batlle, two players who joined Barcelona this season as well, already had their debuts last game if you include the friendly against Club America. I am alone when it comes to having my debut since my signing happened on the last day of the transfer window. This means that if I do get minutes, the fan's attention will be on me as a forward. My task would be for me to drive the ball up the field and score.
My closet in my bedroom was filled with all of my clothes that I brought with me from America. I knew I wouldn't be back there unless I got called up for USWNT international camps, so I brought everything I owned to my apartment here.
Seeing a pair of baggy Levis I liked, I took it off of my black hanger and tossed the clothing on the bed closely in the bedroom. I saw a cute thin sweatshirt that I've never worn yet, so I grabbed it off of the hanger and tossed it onto the bed as well. I got on my knees and pulled out my storage bin that stored all of my sports bras, I grabbed a black Nike one and tossed it over where my clothes are. Most of my sports clothes are Nike since they're the brand I've signed a media contract with. (a/n: sorry my Adidas girls)
Tumblr media
After changing into my outfit, I kept my hair how I usually style it (imagine whatever hairstyle you have, reader <3) and put on some brown sweat proof mascara and a tiny bit of sweat proof concealer under my eyes and on my blemishes. I know it's game day but I never leave the apartment without wearing mascara and concealer.
For a minute I had concerns about my outfit, the weather in Barcelona was pretty warm. However, my sweatshirt wasn't heavy at all and I knew after the game the temperature would drop as the game ends after sundown. The worry slipped my mind as I grabbed my black Nike bag with all of my soccer(football) essentials.
As I stepped into the drivers seat of my black car, my phone in my back pocket dinged. I pulled my phone out of my back pocket to see an iMessage.
Esmee 2mins ago: Good luck today n/n 🥰
I blushed at the message as I replied to the Dutch,
Y/n 34secs ago: Good luck to you too Es ❤️
32 minutes later
As I walked into the next hallway where the dressing room was, I seen two photographers right outside the door. One had a phone camera which I knew is recording a video, the other had a professional camera.
The girl with the camera snapped some pictures of me as I showed off my dimples and waved at them, continuing to walk closer to the dressing room. This feeling was surreal. All eyes are on me and I needed to make a good impression on the Barcelona fans in the stadium and around the world.
Taking a deep breath to steady my nerves, I walked into the dressing room and was greeted by some of the team who were getting dressed. I am early, so a lot of the girls haven't arrived yet.
"Y/n! Are you ready?!" Mariona Caldentey, who had the locker on my left in the dressing room, asked in a very enthusiastic tone as she pulled her number nine jersey over her head. It's obvious that she is uplifting me, someone who is concealing her nervousness, so I smiled.
"I am ready. Can't wait to for us win tonight!" I replied. My enthusiasm showed but there was uncertainty in my voice too. Mariona jumped around in excitement at my reply, it's clear that the dressing room is very hyped up before games.
"I know that's right!" Mariona responded, not noticing my nervousness. Maybe she is aware that I am nervous and that is her trying to make me feel better, cute.
I looked down at the shorts I'll be wearing for the game, which laid perfectly folded on my bench. #17. Back in Washington Spirit, this was my number. On the national team, I am known for wearing seventeen. I didn't ask for this. In fact, I expected Barcelona to give me a completely new number to signal the new era I am in. The number made me smile in appreciation.
Wearing my lucky number this season felt a symbol of empowerment and belonging. Barcelona is doing everything to make me feel included. After taking off my outfit, I put the number seventeen home kit shorts on top of the 3" navy blue compression shorts I already had on. Alexia noticed my attention on the number my shorts had. Seventeen isn't just a number to me; it's a badge of honor.
Holding the soft jersey in my hands, I admire my last name "(Reader's last name)" on the back printed above the white seventeen. I smiled before flipping the jersey, looking at the new 23/24 home kit I will wear for the first time ever in a game. Dragging my fingers over the badge, I smile a tiny bit before going to put the jersey on.
At this point, the entire team is in the dressing room. The digital clock in the room showed that we had five minutes before we had to go out to the field to practice. Some players were thinking to themselves, others were making beat rhythms on the lockers to heighten the team's high morale, and Keira and Aitana were dancing. I am apart of the group who are thinking to themselves.
I found myself stealing glances at Esmee. Esmee, poised and focused, radiated a shy confidence that I couldn't help but admire. The Dutch might've been shy but she knows that she is a good player. As Ale, our team captain, began her rallying speech, my attention drifted back to Esmee.
When our eyes briefly met, I felt a flutter of nerves in her stomach. Quickly, I looked away, going down and pretending to fuss with the laces of my ivory-colored cleats. The familiar routine of tying my shoes provided a momentary distraction from Esmee's gaze. The girls knew of how much they're looking at each other. Neither of them would confront the other about it, yet.
An hour later, at the 57th minute, Jona waved for me to come off of the bench and warmup to come in the game. The girls on the bench looked at me with a happy and excited smile.
"You're going to go on for Pina, We need a goalscoring opportunity and I believe you'll have something to offer, go!" Jona spoke to me. After he finished, I run to go do the routined stretching and sprints that you're required to do before subbing into a game.
Once I finished my warmup with Asisat, who joined me for warmups a minute later, the weight of nerves started to settle in my stomach. This was it, my moment to debut on the pitch for one of the most prestigious clubs in women's football. With Barcelona holding onto a narrow 1-0 lead, thanks to Caroline, the pressure was palpable.
Beside me, Asisat, my teammate who seemed to notice my deep breathing, offered a reassuring smile. "You've got this, Y/n," she said, placing a hand on my right shoulder. "Just play your game, and remember, we're all here for you."
I nodded at her with a smile, grateful for Asisat's words of encouragement. My lungs took a deep breath, trying to steady my racing heart as the coach signaled for me to go to the midline, where you stand before the substitution. This was my chance to make an impact, to show the fans what I am capable of on the field.
As the referee blew the whistle to signal substitutes coming on in the 62nd minute, Asisat got in front of me to replace Patri. The Spanish girl jogged off the pitch and gave Asisat a high-five with a pat on the back before jogging past me. Patri gave me a light smile, a show of "good luck" which made me smile. When the Nigerian ran onto the pitch, it's my turn to be subbed on.
The officiants typed on the board for a few seconds before she showed a red "6" and a green "17". This signaled to Pina that she is coming off for me. As the crowd erupted into cheers, Pina jogged off of the pitch and gave me a hug in appreciation. "Have a good debut." Pina said before patting my back and jogging away. When I ran onto the pitch, going up to Alexia to quickly discuss the play, the roar of the spectators washed over me. My debut gave them a mixture of excitement and anticipation. With each movement and possession of the ball, I felt a surge of determination, pushing aside my nerves.
Lucy was able to dribble the ball past a Madrid midfielder before she passed the ball to me. I started to dribble around a few defensive midfielders before seeing that the Madrid goalkeeper is the person left who I have to shoot the ball through. I sprinted with the ball past a defender who nearly made contact with me. At this point, I found myself in the perfect position to make my mark on my debut. With a burst of speed and a precise touch, my left foot launched a powerful shot towards the goal.
Time seemed to slow as the ball sailed through the air, my jaw dropped when I noticed the ball curve and slide through the tips of the goalkeepers fingers. The ball hit the back of the net with a satisfying thud a second later. Barcelona's crowd erupted into a deafening roar, the stadium vibrating with their cheers as my name echoed through the stands.
My happiness radiated on my face as I ran a couple of feet before jumping into the air, pumping my fist in celebration (think of the joao felix celebration he did on his debut goal). Turning around I found contact with Alexia, Aitana, Ingrid, Asisat, Lucy, and Keira who ran to me and gave me the tightest group hug. The other Barcelona players on the pitch caught up and joined in the group hug as well. My heart continued to pound in my chest. I can't believe I've scored in my debut!!
Barcelona 2-0.
"y/n l/n nuestra estrella americana, ohhh nuestra estrella americana" The Spanish crowd started singing loudly as I go and get into position again. My head is into the game but I couldn't believe that the fans already made a celebration chant for me. I couldn't understand what they've said besides "americana" but I'll ask Alexia after the game.
The Madrid CFF defense were putting up a fight since I've came onto the pitch. Since we were up 2-0, we started to switch onto a defensive position since the opposition is determined on scoring a goal with their attack.
The girls in the white jerseys made a huge error in the 79th minute, which Aitana took advantage off. She gained possession of the ball and started to run up the pitch with the ball. I ran further up the pitch with Carolina Graham Hansen who is free to receive the pass as well.
Two defender came on Aitana's right so she couldn't pass the ball to Caroline. So I am the best option with a single Madrid defender who "marked her man" on me.
It's the 80th minute now and Aitana launched the ball in the air. Determination blazed in my eyes as the ball is going directly to my head. With unwavering focus, I jumped and the ball hit my head as I turned to the left, sending the ball rocketing into the net for my second goal of the match. Madrid's goalkeeper wasn't fast enough to catch the ball that passed over her hands.
The stadium erupted into chaos once again, the crowd on their feet as they cheered for my incredible feat. I couldn't celebrate this time since I am in disbelief. A brace on my debut?? I don't think this has been accomplished in a while.
All I did is cover my face into my hands as Aitana ran up to me. Luckily my face was uncovered by the time she jumped on me to give a hug. The entire time sprinted to me and celebrated for me, we all jumped up and down as a group a few times before breaking apart.
"You made a beautiful header, niña" Alexia said as she patted me on my back. I thanked her as I smiled with my dimpled cheeks before returning to my spot again.
"y/n l/n nuestra estrella americana, ohhh nuestra estrella americana" erupted in the crowd again. I need to pick up a textbook in order to understand Spanish because the rhythm in the crowd impresses me.
In the 89th minute, Esmee subbed on the pitch for Aitana. Asisat scored the fourth goal for Barcelona four minutes after my second goal so we are up 4-0.
We were given three minutes of extra time once the 90th minute came. Esmee spotted an opportunity to pass the ball to me in the final minute. With precision and vision, Esmee delivered a perfectly weighted pass to me, I dribbled ahead inside of the box and shot the ball towards the goal.
Unfortunately, fate had other plans. In a split second, a Madrid defender lunged forward, executing a timely clearance that sent the ball soaring away from the goal. My disappointment was palpable when the defender headed my shot away. The chance for a hat trick evaporated before my eyes.
However, I found solace in the knowledge that I had given the team two goals tonight. As the final whistles blew, signaling the end of the game, the sense of pride wash over me. This is my debut for Barcelona and two goals were attached to my name, giving me a great debut for this season.
A woman, who is clearly one of the workers surrounding the stadium, came up to me and gave me a plague. She had a strong Spanish accent and told me that I am the "Woman of the Match."
After greeting fans, doing my first media interviews in the Media rooms, and taking a shower. I placed on comfortable blue Nike joggers, provided by the club after each game, and the matching jacket before gathering all of the things in the dressing room.
Most of the girls already left the dressing room but they all made sure to congratulate me for my debut before heading home. My gaze drifted towards Esmee, who was preparing to leave, a thoughtful expression on her face as she left her cleats in her locker. Most of us did since we will be back tomorrow morning for recovery training.
Before I could gather the words to speak, Esmee turned towards me, a hint of hesitation in her brown eyes. "Hey, Y/n," she began, her voice soft but earnest. "I was thinking, maybe we could hang out after recovery training tomorrow? Just us two. You know, we can grab lunch and go to one of the beaches or something."
My heart skipped a beat at the unexpected invitation. Despite the exhaustion lingering in me, a smile tugged at the corners of my plump lips. "Yeah, I'd like that," I replied with a smile, my voice tinged with warmth. "It'll be nice to unwind after today."
"I'll see you tomorrow Esmee. Text me once you drive home safely." I said. Esmee's eyes widened for a quick second before she smiled. if I had to guess, she is surprised at what I've said last.
"I will. Let me know when you get home too." The shy girl blushed as I told her goodbye and left the dressing room.

Thoughts on snw 2e6 (contains spoilers)
Okay ik i was saying this in my previous post but i really can't get over the whole chess sequence and how it leads up to how spock and jim's relationship/friendship in TOS.
Subtextually speaking, it shows how chapel and spock, whilst having some level of feelings for each other, are really not on the same page- Spock in his words and game actions, wants to be more committed in his relationship/moving faster/looking for someone on his level, whereas Chapel really just wants to take her time/not necessarily be in a 'relationship' relationship- she can't keep up with Spock in the fast-paced game he wants to play.
As we know, good relationships are usually based on having both partners wanting the same goal (in terms of what they want from a relationship) and good communication (which lets face it theirs, re: prev episodes, isn't that great, although it could be worked on etc etc) and regarding what both characters have communicated in the past (Spock valuing his career and relationships but not wanting to be 'settled on a planet' as T'pring does, and chapel who loves but wants a more FWB situation and wants flexibility and understanding in this) Ultimately, they're doomed by the narrative.
then we bring in Jim to the whole situation, he hasn't had many scenes with spock so far in snw so there's not loads to go on, but from the interactions we have had so far, we can see that they already have a much stronger basis (from their own core traits).
Jim is someone, who like spock, is career minded- he's always pushing forward (see his convo with sam about his promotion) but he's also someone who desperately wants roots within this, he's never truly had a solid home as his family has always moved about. This isn't necessarily about settling down and sticking on a planet, but it's about needing someone who understands him and he can share his goals with (cough cough mr spock)
Jim, particularly as we've met him in snw, is a really smart guy, and because of this he's been isolated as no one can level with him (ep3- his first officer couldn't keep up with him in chess) and once again this is something he can find in Spock.
Now back to the chess scene- they haven't met during this scene, and yet, from viewing the game from the bar- Jim is on par and even thinking ahead of the game Spock is playing. He can see the trouble Spock is in ahead of him, and this as we eventually see in TOS is how they can match each other and provide the support/dependency that both desire.
In each other ,Jim and Spock can find someone who they can finally keep up and level with, they can complete each other and support where the other struggles.
