How many forms of the 72 changes could cultivated animals/yaoguai handle? You said that the heavenly soldiers could only handle a limited number.

I don't think I said that they "could only handle" like it's not a requirement.

It's more like an observation. And this is my PERSONAL take based on these observations

Overpowered (Wukong and Erlang) - 72 transformations

Powerful (Highest rank soldiers/runaway heaven yaogaui)- 36 transformations

Strong (Most celestial solider/Demon Kings) - 18 transformations

Impressive (training immortals/stronger earth yaoguai) - 1 to 2 spells

Common (most yaoguai) - humanoid body

Weak (cultivating yaoguai) - cannot speak

We see that Wukong having 72 transformations is considered unusual. On the level of like a once-in-an-immortal-lifetime kind of genius that happens once in a million years. The only other person we see with this same power is Erlang Shen who is considered the best fighter in all of heaven and the only man that can go toe-to-toe with Wukong. I cannot stress enough how powerful Wukong is as a demon and how he being able to single-handling take on all of heaven is something very unusual and a massive threat within himself.

So from that we can easily assume since only the two most powerful characters in the novel have the 72 transformations have this kind of power that this is not common and that other demons shouldn't not be able to have it. Personally I think that no one else but Wukong and Erlang have this level or even come close.

Then we see what is the next level with is the 36 transformations. This is what we see that Zhu Bajie has. Bajie who was the Canopy Marshall of the Reeds, who was in charge of 80,000 men alone and only answered to the Jade Emporer himself because he was so highly ranked. From this observation, we can assume that Marshalls or other extremely high-positioned celestial soldiers have the 36 transformations. Pretty much every powerful celestial that isn't Erlang Shen himself.

I would argue that only MAYBE some Demon King could have 36 transformations, but this is highly unlikely as most yaoguai cultivate through eating humans and not through proper training under a teacher. There could be leeway that perhaps heaven-runaway animals that claim to have cultivated through heaven-means could have this power. This makes it so that maybe 5 Demon Kings out of the nearly 30 could have this level of transformation, and especially the ones that have said they cultivated because they gained knowledge in heaven, not just ran away. I would say this is like Yellow Wind Demon, Yellow Robe Demon, Golden and Silver Horned Kings, Scorpion Demon, and Bull Demon King.

And last is the 18 transformations. This is what we see what Sha Wujing has and he was a Curtain-Lifting General, which is a slightly higher position but we can assume to be closer to the common celestial solider power-wise. This is what I believe that most celestial soldiers have been able to master and is the standard. And what I think that most Demon Kings are able to master as well. I would find it impressive if Demon King could gain a human form, let alone master other spells. I would say this is like Black Wind King, White Bone Demon, Singled Horned Rhino King, Nine-Headed Insect, Jupiter's Rival, Hundred-Eyed Demon Lord, and White Deer Spirit.

We see only higher rank demons like Generals able to perform maybe one or two transformations and that was to escape combat. Only Demon King seem to have one to more than one spells. Or we see that some demons are able to master serval spells I would but they are not powerful as Wukong is easily able to overpower them. I say these impressive demons are like Tiger Vangarud, Tiger Immortal, Elk Immortal, Antelope Immortal, all Eight Tree Spirits, all Seven Spider sisters, and Iron-Backed Grey Wolf.

As for normal everyday yaogaui that have cultivated on their own I would say that they are not capable of transformation spells at all. Most demons we see on this journey are underlings and we see none (that I remember) perform any spells. Just that they are able to cultivate by eating humans to understand language and gain a humanoid body takes all their accumulated power, and they are under a teacher to learn more, they are following a demon king to serve. We see this like Sly Devil, Wily Worm, Hill-Pawing Tiger, Sea-Lolling Draong, Going and Coming, and Springe Grace.

And demons that are still cultivating and cannot speak like the Python Demon.

I think a super cool side spin to the Drangon!AU would be if IK became the world's first dragon rider, like a HTTYD situation !

I think about the transition from "small weakling human" to "precious baby child" all the time, so I feel like the process of them learning about each other (the brothers + IK) in the sense of being in tune while flying is so sweet,,, like, they all obviously have different flying styles, and I'd imagine that Satan, Levi, and Belphie can't even fly at *all*, so getting accustomed to the ways they operate was probably pretty tough but SO cool for IK yknow

And on the flip side it was probably a struggle for the brothers to learn to trust her cues when training or even actively fighting something when they're so used to being independent, but they have to realize that she's not trying to control them, but work as one essentially

oooooooh humans becoming so close to their creature companions that all their movements are in sync is something so dear to me

i reckon mammon (who is nearly always ik's first friend, no matter what universe, and also the best flier) would be super quick to get used to giving her rides around the place, but at first it's more like just carrying a doll around because ik is clutching him stock-still in Terror the whole time

but then!! there's a moment where it just sort of clicks. i'm vaguely remembering a trick in one of the httyd movies where hiccup jumps off toothless's back, and then toothless catches him again? it'd be like that, except it happens completely by accident the first time, but then they keep doing it for fun

on the other hand lucifer would take SO long to properly sync, because he's always like I Will Do As I Think Is Best, Your Commands Are Mere Suggestions. for him i think it'd take a moment of him being in danger and needing to rely on ik, and that's where it clicks for him. he mellows out, but he keeps acting as if he marches only to the beat of his own drum, even though he is absolutely doing everything ik tells him to

in general ik would have a set of subtle but specific gestures (some of which are unique to each brother) that she uses to both communicate and instruct, and i reckon levi likes that bit the most. since he's more geared for swimming, he'd have a range of clicks and whistles designed for underwater communication, and ik learns to understand and reply - so it's like they have their own secret language

Fortunate: I now have a DCA oc/ttrpg AU and I'm going to figure out how I can make things about him. His name is Celest (short for Celestial) and he's an Automaton Oracle who specializes in astrological magics and somehow has two (or more) souls stuck inside his automaton core. He's a couple hundred years old (in terms of being in his current form/life) and tends to keep to himself and away from major cities.

If there is at least one thing I can credit FE for doing better than Tales in localization, it's not trying to actively go out of their way for an entire game to avoid subtext or direct text between two men that is romantic or implied romantic. Funny when it's so present that the attempt doesn't even work; infuriating that it was attempted to begin with.

So as much as I often have issues with some of FE's localizations, at least they have a leg up on loc Tales for that.

i think my biggest issue with the sequel trilogy is that it’s just such a textbook case of good ideas bad execution on practically every level in every movie and that makes me mad

#personal #star wars #i'm one hundred percent serious here #like tfa was definitely the highlight of that trilogy just because the set up was half the movie and that was good #like the idea that fascism can in fact return based on nostalgia and warped ideals and not as a tyrant but simply #a major political party #like the first order is clearly considered on par with the republic as just a facet of power in the galaxy before starkiller base happens #and the way that they were setting up kylo ren and the way it could be a commentary on how vulnerable kids can be #to things like exploitation and grooming and stuff like that #and just how COOL the concept of 'scavenger who's got a heart of gold and force sensitive stormtrooper who defects' were as characters #and poe of course was just a really good character #but they NEVER delved any deeper in that at all in any way #the last act of tfa wasn't good and then jj left without solving anything so rian had to try #(and i'm saying this as someone who likes rian johnson but finds tlj to just be a mediocre to bad movie) #and so you get good things like luke NOT being the classic star wars mentor but bitter and jaded #and the concept of rose tico as a character and the conflict between poe and laura dern's character #and the idea that rey ISN'T part of a secret special bloodline (tho there still should have been more explanation for why her parents left) #(like they abandoned her specifically because they thought she was force sensitive or smth) #but then also absolute horseshit like reylo (god gag me) and finn and rose's actual plot and basically the entire second half #and then jj comes back and writes the worst star wars movie ever made and retcons basically everything #and butchers basically everything and is basically public enemy number two to me now (behind jon favreau for his lion king crimes) #so anyway yeah literally good ideas but extremely shitty execution all around (and i maintain that kylo should not have been an only child)
