We took the recommendation from family and friends to download the app friend finder, so everyone could keep tabs on us. My younger sister kept track of us so well we’d play the game, “where are we now.” Making the rounds back into Arizona and on to Utah, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to stop in Colorado for another visit with family. A week before setting off, we purposefully turned off our friend finder app, which (surprise) notified my sister. Making some excuse as to why the phone was not working, we started making our way to Colorado. Of course, we did have some hiccups along the way, which as it would seem, only makes for a better story (we’ll get to those later). As we parked the big, blue van along the street at our one of our favorite places in Pagosa Springs, @riffraffbrewing Thomas turned his friend finder app back on, immediately notifying everyone following us of our current location, including my sister. The surprise text to my sister : “come meet us for a beer” . [Pioggia e vento]

Alla fine è arrivata. La coda della bassa pressione che vedevamo questi giorni dietro di noi ci ha raggiunto. Ci sono una trentina di nodi di vento circa, abbiamo rollato il genoa e con le vele ridotte stiamo facendo 11 nodi al gran lasco, niente male. Il maltempo ci accompagnerà per altre cinquanta miglia, forse anche meno.

Ripararsi, con la pioggia ed il vento così forti, non è che serva a molto. Bisogna ammettere che non è proprio una passeggiata affrontare raffiche di questa portata. Una perturbazione così intensa in realtà non era prevista, ma ogni marinaio è consapevole che il tempo può cambiare da un momento all’altro e deve essere pronto ad affrontare eventuali emergenze.

Probabilmente tra pochi giorni, quando sarò disteso sulle spiagge bianche e le acque cristalline dei Caraibi, con temperature intorno ai 30 gradi, ripenserò con il sorriso a questa sfuriata dell’Oceano. Nel frattempo, assieme all’equipaggio, continuerò a ballare sulle onde in attesa che torni il sereno.
