Windblight Revali

Nintendo missed a viscerally heartbreaking opportunity to fight your blight possessed friends and comrades bodies. I was obsessed with this idea when BOTW first came out, and I’ve seen some amazing variations of it!

I just never felt comfortable enough with my art to draw the version in my head. But with all the bird man practice I’ve been getting, he’s here at last! (Plus he’s relevant to my Revalink RP with my partner~)

Anyway, I’m sad now so I’m gonna go cry abt it.

Okay this turned out way longer than I intended but I low key actually like it. Should I post it on ao3?

They start out hating each other, Revali because he was killed by Windblight, Windblight because he's literally a manifestation of Ganon's hate

Revali tries to just ignore his captor at first, silent treatment for the win. But he was never as good at being silent as Link was. So instead he monologues about how if he'd hadn't just flown across Hyrule, if he'd had his Great Eagle Bow, then he would have won easily.

Around year 30, he starts using Windblight as a therapist. Frankly, Revali has a lot of trauma, if he's gonna be trapped here for the foreseeable future while Link takes his sweet time, might as well work through it.

Windblight isn't verbal, and they can only really communicate through screams, but the two make it work.

Around year 50 or so, Revali realizes that no one is coming. Link probably died in the original fight, Ganon has destroyed all of Hyrule, and he's going to spend forever trapped in the shell of the beast he loves so much. It's fine. Revali is used to being alone, he was before the Champions. He'll be just fine.

Around year 65, the decades of being trapped catch up to him. He hasn't seen the sky, or felt the wind in his feathers in decades, and he never will again. He'll never see Link again, or any the other Champions. His friends, his family.

He's trying to calm his panic attack (seriously, who let dead people have panic attacks, not fair) when he suddenly feels the pressure Windblight has, pushing him down and trapping him, lessen. He pushes past it, and finds himself on Medoh's top deck, just as the sun starts to peek over the horizon.

He can see all of Hyrule from here, he can see Rito, flying around the village's spire, he can see Hyrule, not destroyed. Not too far in the distance he can see Hyrule Castle, surrounded by the choking malice that's been holding him down for so long, but being held back by a golden aura that he knows must be the Princess.

He can see where his friends are trapped, their beasts looking just as lifeless as Medoh looks. He stays above for nearly an hour, watching everything he can see, until Ganon realizes Windblight's control has slipped and pulls Revali back under.

Windblight doesn't do it again, but Revali can see Medoh's immediate surroundings now instead of the suffocating darkness, so that's something.

Around year 100, something changes. Medoh takes flight again. A sickening purple light now replaces the soft blue Revali is so used to. He can see she's flying again, rather than sitting dead above the village. She attacks any Rito who dare to fly close to her, screeching in a tone that sounds aggressive, but Revali knows she's in pain.

Two Rito keep coming back, despite Medoh attacking, they keep trying to board. The one with darker feathers is shot in the wing. Revali doesn't see if his companion catches him.

When the white feathered Rito returns, he has a Hylian with him, and Revali only knows one Hylian stupid enough to attempt what this one is attempting. Link is alive, somehow.

Link boards Medoh, doing exactly what Revali had dared him to do a century ago. Revali taunts him for taking so long, he has to, otherwise he'd start crying.

Link defeats Windblight, 100 years after Revali was imprisoned by him. Windblight was gone, Revali was free. They weren't friends, not a chance in Hylia, but it could have been worse, all things considered.

thinking about super physically affectionate clingy yet quiet link and him leaning into revali when he's tired, or curling up in revali's lap with his face in revali's neck to take a nap, without a single word.

it startles revali a lot at first when link just at random just starts grabbing his hand only to intertwine their fingers, link tracing the feathers and then pulling revali's hand up to his face to press a kiss to the back of it, his eyes shut. or link pushing him down into the cushions only to seat himself within revali's folded lap, head against revali's chest as he fidgets and fiddles with revali's scarf. or link coming up from behind to wrap his arms around revali's midsection, pressing soft kisses down revali's spine.

"you hylians are so touchy," revali mumbles one night, when they're lying together in their shared hammock. link is wrapped around him, intertwining his legs with revali's, and he drags his pointer finger through revali's feathers, drawing shapes into his chest. link only hums at him in response, and shifts so that he's more comfortable against revali. his legs tighten around revali's, as though he plans to keep the rito shackled to him forever. revail only wraps a wing around him and brushes his beak through the top of link's hair.

"you're not pushing me away though," link says. link's voice is soft and drowsy, but revali can feel it humming under his skin.

"like i could if i tried," revali responds in similar volume. "you've wrapped yourself so closely to me, we'll merge into one being at this point." but link is right; if he truly didn't enjoy this, he'd have thrown link into lake totori now.

"wish we could," link murmurs. revali hums in question, prompting link to continue. "wanna be so close to you i'm practically under your skin."

"that won't be necessary. you already get under my skin plenty." link snorts and shifts against him again, revali shifting in response to accommodate link's new position. they're quiet again for a couple more moments before link speaks.

"do you really not like it?" his songbird whispers, hushed and timid. revali frowns. he doesn't like it when link doubts him, or this bond between them. he wraps his other wing around link and the little hylian snuggles deeper into him automatically, sighing quietly.

"i'd have figured you more astute than this," revali says. "this... manner of affection you favor is not something i'm accustomed to, but it doesn't mean it's unpleasant. it's... nice, to be honest."

"so it's okay? you're okay with this?" link murmurs.

"i'm more than fine with it," revali replies. "what made you think i wasn't?"

he feels link shift to hide his face in revali's chest. "dunno," link mumbles. "i always do it without saying anything. thought you were just putting up with me..."

revali's feathers prickle and rise, and his frown deepens. in a swift fluid movement, he grabs his mate by his hips and pulls him up. link yelps, grabbing onto revali's arms. "w-wait, revali, the hammock—"

"the hammock is strong enough to hold the both of us," revali says, and seats link atop him so that his mate is straddling his lap, and his hands settle on link's waist. "so don't doubt it, like you're doubting me right now." link flushes and his ears droop, just slightly. cute.

"i wasn't doubting you—" link starts, but revali cuts him off with a slight shake of his head.

"you were," revali asserts and his voice leaves no room for argument, because it's true. link stares down at him, guilty and insecure. revali hates it. "i can't control what goes on in that stubborn head of yours, but don't doubt me. don't doubt this, what we have. i chose you, all of you, what you are, what you do, what you offer. i'll gladly receive it all, because it's you."

link's breath catches. "revali..."

but revali shakes his head and pulls lightly on link's waist. "that's enough thinking for you tonight," he says. "come back to me and continue with your touchy inclinations. i'm rather fond of it now."

so link with that ever so familiar wide, blue-eyed gaze tentatively leans back down and wraps himself around revali's body again, as they were before, his face buried in the space between revali's neck and head and his breath beginning to even out. revali envelops his clingy songbird in his wings, nuzzling the side of link's face with his eyes shut, beginning to drift to sleep himself, but he needs to make himself clear before either of them drift too far.

"i love you," revali murmurs against link's skin. "goddesses know why you ever doubted it, but i do and i always will. if you wish to possess me, my body is yours to command as you please. if you wish to woo me, my heart has already been infatuated with you for far longer than you've realized you desired me too. my very soul and my entire being belong to you now, for as long as you will it to be."

link doesn't say anything more, but revali can feel his little jewel hug him tighter. "i chose you," revali whispers. "please remember that. i chose to be with you, for the rest of my life. i'm not letting go of you so soon, so please don't let go of me either."

they both grow quiet after that, and revali thinks link has already fallen asleep when—

"i won't," link whispers back. "i won't let you go. i'm all yours too, revali, i love you too."

revali coos lowly in response, holding link a little tighter in his arms. "good. if it's my skin you wish to be in, then it's yours to live under. i wouldn't have it any other way. now, go to sleep. your mind runs circles around itself like a hylian retriever if left without the careful hand of a trainer, like myself."

"whatever," link snorts, but he shifts and squirms and nestles himself under revali's chin until he's comfortable again, until his breathing evens out. only then does revali relax, wings still wrapped firmly around his sweet little songbird, and lets sleep claim him too.

The thing is is that, among all Champions and Sages, Revali is the only one who would comment on how "referring to Link as a swordsman is like calling a divine beast a canon" because noone else is pedantic about reputation and combat ability the same way he is.

But he would swallow a bomb arrow if he ever did that out loud.

i already yapped abt this au on this blog (expect me to start hyperfixatimg) BUT eurghhg lemme explain this au ONE MORE TIME because i love to infordumo… hrhghgho (also so all of the current info abt my au is all in one post so it’s easier to understand)

so erm instead of being a creation of ganondorf, mucktorock/morcka is actually a follower of him, as well as the other temple bosses. i might expand on why morcka (since it’s not a creation of ganon i feel like giving it a name would be cool ig) is but for now let’s just say it joined for the evil doings (SO SCARY 😨😨)anyways morcka still has its icky yucky sludge powers ofc, everything’s mainly the same except for its shark form. it resembles a zora bc i fucking had to lol. but i imagine morcka would wear its disguise as a weird ass bodysuit and stuff, also small tad tiny weeny little fun fact, morcka is usually in its shark from even when it doesn’t need it (especially around the other temple guardians) it does this because it’s short as hell and is very pissed about that.

anyways the regional phenomena was able to happen cus morcka was told to steal the secret stone of water by ganondorf, so ofc it did because it was evil. this resulted in the secret stone becoming corrupted, since morcka had been hanging out with ganondorf so much it actually became a source of corruption. this also resulted in morcka’s sludge powers amplifying to the point that its powers could affect a whole fucking region , though not that much because of the initial corruption. anyways yada yada yada and link beats the shit out of morcka with sidon, and morcka fucking dies, and the two take the secret stone back and purify it. however morcka is resseructed by the blood moon, and ends up in the depths. this causes it to have “scars” (more like its wounds being patched up by gloom), and stuff. idk

also side thing, i made a separate au back where it was the ganon blights that were the same species of their champions and were ALSO followers of calamity ganon , instead of being creations of him (idk i thought zora waterblight would be cool…) i kinda abandoned that au, and recycled it into this lol. BUT i wanted a way to bring that au back, so i thought of making it again but NO @master-kohga-dating-sim CAME UP WITH THIS GODAMN IDEA /pos

im probably going to actually make the blights their parents, but idk. but it seems like a really cool idea!!!! (also so i could make this lmao)

I love how in the Champions Ballad quest you fight all the blights with what the other champions had as their weapons/defense just to see how difficult it was. I just really like that touch and oh my gosh it made me so freaking sad

Link tober day 15 but actually 14 because my Ganon sketch prompt was more inspiring.

Yeah, so, I’ve had a crazy busy week and also I slept like all day yesterday to become something of a person again. So we just are gonna press on and see what prompts inspire me?

Revali is a fighter, with what shreds of his pride he withholds in his last moments, he makes sure to let Ganon know that worse is coming for him. His last hope is believing that Link will come and do what he could not…the lingering regrets that he didn’t tell him everything would drive his belief in him for the next 100 years.

I tried to match the injuries on my Windblight Revali design since this would be moments before his possession—anyway ✌️ I’m going to sit in my feelings now!
