This is a work in progress id love to hear everyone's critique
Night arrives into a city of the damned, the poor, and those who tried to survive. This city seemed more alive at night then it did during the day, at least for what Colin could remember of the days. The ladies of the night were out full force tonight. A few tried to stop him as he walked along the sidewalk. He could see the whores' pimps watching from vehicles trying to catch any unsuspecting buyer to rob. Colin was hungry but wasn't that hungry. He knew if he tried to feed on any of them that he would more than likely regurgitate it back up. Which he rather not do on his favorite brown jacket. He looked at the GPS on his phone and then looked up to see the huge red neon letters.
"Well this is the spot," he said to himself. The building looked as if it used to be an old movie theater converted into a club. A woman with a spiked mohawk stood inside the old ticket booth where patrons of the club would have to pay to enter. Colin slapped a twenty-dollar bill on the counter and went inside. The music was loud and deafening, definitely wasn't the kind of music that Colin would listen to. It was too electronic for his taste he preferred the late 70's early 90's punk rock scene himself but he was asked to be here. A random text he got earlier said for him to come to TechNoir,  supposedly it was one of the hottest clubs in the local goth scene, the message also said that they had the info he had been looking for. He felt like there was someone pulling a joke on him but how did they know? He hadn't told anyone that he was even back in town. It was definitely suspicious at the latest. The club was dark except for where the DJ booth stood with strobing lights and colorful laser patterns moved around the stage. Gogo dancers stood and danced around the bar in metal light up cages that were in the shape of coffins while They wore scantily clad tight nun attire. The patrons of the club looked of young angsty teens who you would probably see hanging out at the local Hot Topic. He walked up to the bar and sat facing the crowd watching to see if anyone was watching him.
"Hey buddy," a voice said behind him. "Are you going to order something or what?" Colin looked over to see a man who looked like he was trying to cosplay as Edward Scissorhands more than being a bartender. "Hey I asked you a question!" The bartender snapped over the terrible music.
"Harold shut the fuck up," said another voice beside him. Both the bartender and Colin look over to see a very attractive woman with bright red hair. She had a septum and lip piercing as well.
"Well if this punk is gonna sit at my bar he has to at least order a drink," said Harold the bartender.
"Can it, there are other people at the bar that's here that doesn't have a drink go hassle them," said the woman. The bartender stormed off to another customer at the other end of the bar. "Names Charlotte, and you...must be Colin correct?" She asks.
"Are you the one who texted me?" Colin asks.
"No, that was my employer DeX." She answered.
"DeX huh, I've heard of him but didn't know he ran human clubs."
Charlotte gets close to Colin flashing a pair of fangs as she smiles at him. "Well where else would he get his funds from, sure as hell wouldn't be from other kindred," she replies turning away and facing the club. Kindred,  something that vampires like to call themselves to make them feel a little bit more human than they really were. "Follow me," she says looking back at Colin before heading to the back of the club towards the VIP section. "DeX, is waiting for you." They walk up to a door blocked by a bouncer and get waved through. The music deafened a bit but is just as terrible as before this time playing what sounds like a remixed version of Billy Idol's White Wedding. "Why ruin a great song," Colin thought to himself. The backroom looked like a totally different place than the main club. Dark purples and black velvet tapestries aligned the walls, paintings that closely resembled work by H.P Lovecraft and H.R. Giger scattered about. There were a few patrons in the room with Colin and Charlotte but none of them looked like they matched those that were in the main club. No these people were not people at all, they were more Kindred like that of Colin and Charlotte. Some seem to be feeding on some willing humans offering their blood.
"Ah Colin! Glad to see that you have returned to the city. I'm assuming since you are back you never found what you were looking for?" Chuckled a voice in the darkest part of the room. Colin looked over to see a pair of eyes glaring back at him. They were bright blue and cold, if he was still human it would've probably given him a shiver down his spine. The eyes moved closer, out walked a very tall and lanky man. He walked with a cane that he obviously didn't need, on the top of the cane it had a small crown on it like that of what a king might have had on his scepter. The kindred wore a nice tailored suit which was in a deep dark blue.
"I do hope you are enjoying my club," he smiled flashing his fangs. Colin could tell that not only that this guy had to be DeX but because of his egotistical personality that he had to be of clan Ventrue. They, like the Camarilla, love to think that they were the higher power of the Kindred due to the fact they make a profit having humans do a lot of their dirty work.
"I would if you weren't playing a lot of this shitty music, " Colin smirked back. If DeX could have turned red he would have at that moment. The kindred then chuckled and beckoned Colin to sit down, Colin looked back to see that Charlotte was gone.
"She is cute for a Brujah don't you think? I found her scavenging on rats like that of a Nosferatu. Poor poor thing." Smiled DeX. "She is now part of my coterie and does what I ask, just as a small payment for teaching her the ways of the Kindred." Colin looked around at the room again. Before staring back at DeX.
"What's this have to do with me? How did you know I was in t…." DeX stopped Colin before he could finish.
"Like the Baron of the city, I too know when other Kindred come and go through the city it's kinda my business as you can say. There is much we need to discuss with you and I. Like that about your sire. We have found her." Colin played with a ring band on his finger as DeX told him this. "I can tell you where she is but first you have to do something for me," DeX flashed his fangs again in a big smile.
"So you are hiring me for a job that I didn't ask for just so I can find my sire, what's the catch?" Colin asked walking closer to DeX.
The Ventrue still smiling. "No catch, I just need you and my Brujah friend you met earlier to hunt down a missing Nosferatu that has been a thorn in my side for a few weeks now. Shouldn't be too difficult for you," DeX replied back.
"Well if it's so fucking easy why don’t you do it?"  Asked Colin as he scanned the room. At that moment the scantily clad nuns that were dancing in the main club walked into the room. They had what looked like a group of tranced men and women with them. They sat down next to DeX.
"Do you really think a Ventrue would want to scour the alleys and sewers looking for some ugly rat of a Nosferatu?" Laughed DeX. " Now leave us, I have much more pressing issues to deal with." The Ventrue with the nuns started to kiss and make out with the humans. Colin took that as a cue and started to walk away. He glanced back one last time to see the nuns all biting into to arms and necks of the humans.
On the other side of the door, the girl he met at the bar greeted him with a smile. Her fangs flashed slightly.
"You ready?" She asked as she leaned against the wall. He nodded, they both headed through the back door of the club that leads into an alleyway.
"So who is that asshole?" Asked Colin, as they walked. The sounds of the city were very busy. Sirens could be heard in the distance but with their heightened senses, you would've thought it was just down the street.
"DeX?" Charlotte took out a cigarette from her coat pocket and lit it, taking a long drag before exhaling the smoke. Colin looked at her. "Old habits," she took another drag then sighed."Well, he's the sheriff. He works for the Baron. Lately, he has been on high alert ever since North broke the Masquerade."
"North?" Asked Colin. "He's the Nosferatu we are looking for. Apparently he attacked a gang of Sabbat in front of some humans and now he must be judged." They walked along the sidewalk, passing some tourists and late-night drunks. Under the bright street lights. Colin got a better view of Charlotte. Her hair was shaved on both sides but sported a bright red faux hawk. She had a tattoo on the side of her neck that was of an upside-down anarchy symbol. There was a smaller tattoo behind her ear that he got a quick glimpse of. It was of a smiley face but it wasn't smiling it had x's over its eyes and its tongue sticking out. She wore a black leather jacket with band patches and spikes all over it. Under that, she had a Black Flag tank top. Estimating she may have been embraced around in the ‘80s due to the fact you don't see the traditional goth punk girls dressed like that anymore. She took one last puff of her cigarette and then threw it to the ground.
"I've heard that there might be someone to help us that lived in some abandoned warehouses on the other end of the city. " Charlotte told Colin as they walked. They turned at the end of the block to a Mazda Hatchback. Charlotte got into the driver seat while Colin rode shotgun. Luckily it being late out that there wasn't much traffic to worry about. It didn’t take long till they arrive at their intended destination. Charlotte parks the car where it isn't visible to anyone who might walk by the location. They both get out of the vehicle, the air smells of decay and fish. They aren't far from the city pier.
The location used to be a thriving industrial district. In one warehouse it manufactured boats for the sea fishermen, another a slaughterhouse where the local butcher shops would get their meat supplies, and so on. They walked towards the old run-down slaughterhouse. The faint smell of old stale blood lingers as they got closer.
"So who is it that we are here to find?" Colin asked quietly.
"Me!" said a voice in the darkness. A pair of two glowing red eyes came barreling towards them at a great speed. The two dodged at just in time. As Colin dodged he pulled out two pistols from inside of his jacket and aimed them at the two eyes. Charlotte on one knee ready to pounce, fists ready. The voice mumbled something to themselves and then a dark red liquid spewed out from where the figure was standing and landed on one of Colin's pistols. The liquid began to sizzle and hiss causing the gun to start to melt.
"Blood Magic!" Yelled Charlotte. Colin threw the gun to the ground now gripping the other with both hands. The figure then leaped up towards Colin but was stopped by Charlotte who sprinted at full inhuman speed smashing them into a wall. From behind her waistband, she pulled out a wooden stake like those you'd see in the movies, but unlike the movies they did not kill Kindred, instead, it just paralyzed them in place. She drove the stake deep into the figure’s chest. The figure stood there motionless as Charlotte stepped away from them.
"You aren't going anywhere for a while," exclaimed the Brujah. Again the figure did not move, it did not blink, it could only stare back emotionlessly. Colin removed a flashlight from his pocket and flashed it towards the figure. They’re pinned to the wall was a female kindred. Her hair was slightly balding on one side. The kindred's face looked slightly mangled and scarred, her fangs protruding from what looked like her two front teeth gross and yellowed. Her body looked very frail with all the baggy clothes she wore that was dirty and stained with blood.
"Is this who we were looking for?" Asked Colin keeping his gun aimed at the Nosferatu. "Is this who is supposed to help us find North?"
"Yes," answered Charlotte. "This Nosferatu's name is Joliette and North is her sire," she walked closer to the pinned Kindred, holding her by her throat. "And if she doesn't cooperate, well then we'll just kill her," growled Charlotte.
Colin placed his remaining pistol back into it's holster inside his jacket. He joined by Charlotte's side. The Brujah pulled out a switch blade and placed it to the neck of Joliette, "I'm going to remove this stake from your chest. If you try to do any funny business I'll cut your head right off." The Nosferatu just staring back still motionless. The stake came out with no resistance and fell to the floor. Dark red almost black blood poured out of the wound. The Nosferatu just brushed it off, she blinked her eyes for a sec and then slowly stood up. Charlotte still holding the blade to her neck....

Save the living earth with Rage and spirit! Awaken ancient mysteries, rebuild your fallen pack, and unleash your fearsome might to heal a shattered land.
Tumblr media
Werewolf: The Apocalypse — The Book of Hungry Names is an interactive novel set in the World of Darkness by Kyle Marquis, author of the 2020 smash hit Vampire: The Masquerade — Night Road. It's entirely text-based, without graphics or sound effects, and fueled by the vast, unstoppable power of your imagination.
Shapeshifter. Mystic. Hero. Monster. You are a werewolf, and you are all these things. Werewolves are the living earth's last guardians, created by Gaia, given the gift of shifting between human and wolf forms, and called to stop humanity from destroying the world.
Yet you have failed. Pollution chokes the cities and mad spirits rampage through the wild places. You swore to protect Gaia, but the werewolves turned on each other, slaughtered their allies, fell into despair or mad Rage.
You are one of the few who remember the oaths you swore to the living earth - which has made you an exile. But rather than surrender to despair, you have sworn to uncover the secrets of a defiled land and fight the Apocalypse. Stormcat, once the Spirit of a thriving community of werewolves, has called upon you to rebuild that shattered pack. In the savage woods and decaying cities of New England, you will forge your own legend.
Build Your Pack. Human and werewolf survivors haunt the woods and hide in the cities: find them to learn what happened and to rebuild the werewolf nation. But not all werewolves can be trusted: shun those wolves consumed by Rage, and pity those who have lost the Wolf and become empty shells.
Survive the Wilds. A desperate exile, shunned by those who have abandoned their oaths to Gaia, you'll have to survive by your wits. A winter night can kill as surely as any monster: find shelter, seek allies among spirits and humans, and learn how far you'll go to survive.
Unleash Your Rage. You are one of Gaia's monsters, a living weapon, herald of vengeance and death. Now the Apocalypse is here: wield your Rage with savage cunning and keen discretion, or it will swallow you whole.
Play as male, female, or nonbinary; befriend or romance werewolves and humans of all genders.
Shapeshift among five forms to slaughter your enemies, or outwit them to take what you need.
Choose your auspice (moon-sign) and your werewolf tribe to learn what sort of monster you are.
Claim your territory and heal the spirits there to unlock Gifts that let you summon animals, control the elements, or enter the spirit world.
Face mutated monsters and corrupt spirits in the dark woods and decaying factory towns of rural New England.
About Kyle Marquis
This is Kyle Marquis's eighth game with Choice of Games; his previous titles include the dieselpunk flying-ace game Empyrean, the time-traveling alternate-history Byzantine mystery Silverworld, and the apotheosis-seeking magical adventure Tower Behind the Moon.
