Every concert you have been present. You had jumped and screamed for every hard hitting songs and then sing along and cry every now and then for every slow and ballad songs. You have been there since the beginning. You had been and will be supporting your best friend's career.

Cheolie's career together with his group soared so high that they got busier and more focused on their careers than ever. You respected it and understood it. It's normal for his job.

But then, one day, something shifted between you two.

"What's with the long face?" Ace, asks while she hands me the cup of hot chocolate drink I ordered

I smile and continued to stare outside the window of the coffee shop.

"Wow! A new endoresment for SVT." She gasps as she looks at the huge TV screen across the street. The one I'm looking at. "They've been busy..."

"Yeah, they have been."

"They had an event too right? A fanmeeting... something... and they went on a festival as the main event?"

"Yes. They did."

"And... you didn't go?"

"Yeaah, I can't." I take a sip of my drink

"That's a first. How come? You always makes time for his things..."

"I do. I want to support my best friend... but..."

"But what?"

"Things at work got hectic so I need to do somethings and..."

I can't tell Ace that I'm starting to feel something off. Not that Cheolie and I had a fight or what. It's just that, my heart feels weird lately. And I need to control it.

"The last event was weekend... so did you went out? Coz I'm sure you weren't home. I called you and it sounded like you were outside."

"I was." I press my lips together. "I was on this date thingy that my friend at work set up."

"What?" Ace got all excited. "Spill the tea! How is it?"

"Hmm... it's okay... he's seems nice and sweet."

"So... a potential second date?"

"Well..."

"C'mon! Do it! You don't have time to date because all you do for your free time is sleep or on a svt event."

It's true. That's the only life you had outside work. It looks like you are obsessed from a third person perspective but it doesn't bother you. One you are a fan and two, Cheolie is important for you.

"He actually asked me out for next friday night...I told him, I'll let him know my sched at work next week."

Ace claps and cheers for me, "finally!"

After getting home, I did some cleaning in the house, especially my room and then took a nice shower. I feel refreshed and calm now. What a nice way to end my friday night after a long week of work.

I was towel drying my hair in the living room while I'm watching a kdrama on the TV, when I suddenly heard the lock on my door beeps. I panicked a little as I am not expecting anyone but then a familiar figure appears.

"What are you doing?" He asks

"Shouldn't I be the one asking you that?" I remove the towel on my head. "What are you doing here Cheolie?"

He's wearing all black from pants, hoodie and beanie

"It's late." I glance at the time on my phone and then saw a bunch of missed calls from him.

"How long did you shower that you missed all my calls?" He finally makes his way where I am and throws off.

"I have it on silent mode. I cleaned and showered." I explain

He sits down beside me and throws his head back.

"You look tired..."

"A little."

"Where you guys practicing today?"

"We had a photoshoot today."

"Oh... I see..."

Then his eyes darts straight at me, " oh, I see?" He repeats

"What?"

"Are you not a fan of ours now?"

"What? I am!"

"Then, why aren't you present on my last two events?"

I'm a little surprised that he noticed it. He barely had time now to meet me personally and event call me so, how did he know?

"Where were you?" He asks

"Hmm... first event... I'm at work. Overtime."

"This weekend?"

"I was on a date."

"A date?"

"Yeah."

"Why?"

"What do you mean why?"

"Why... like, why didn't you told me? Shouldn't I know this? And since when did you had time to meet anyone and have a boyfriend?"

"Whoa! Hold up!" I laugh, "boyfriend? No... it's just a date. My friend at work set me up to meet this guy. And, why would I tell you?"

"I am your bestfriend."

"Okay... but... you are busy... I'm sure my dating life is none on the top list of your concern." I tease

He suddenly became serious, "so you like him?"

"Hmm?"

"I am asking you, y/n. You like him?"

I scratch the back of my neck, "He's cute... and nice..."

"I asked, do you like him?"

"I don't know! I just met him once."

"Will you meet him again?"

"Ahm... maybe... Not sure yet."

"No."

"No?"

"I don't want you to meet him again."

"Why?"

"Because I said so!" He stands up, walking away and goes to my kitchen and opens the fridge to grab a water bottle.

"What's wrong with you?" I ask

"Don't." He says again after chugging the whole bottle. "Don't see that person again."

"What's wrong? Did you even know the guy I met?"

"No. But I don't care. You can't meet anyone." He throws the bottle water in the trash and comesback to sit beside me.

"You're being weird." I mumble. I throw the towel I have around my neck to the side and start to finger comb my damp dear.

We both became quiet for a while. I thought he was just focused on the show I was watching before he arrived.

"You smell different." He suddenly asks

I put my long hair to the side, still combing it with my fingers. "What does that mean?"

He pushes he's hood off, staring at me "Did you changed your shampoo?"

I scrunch my nose as I try to recall, "Not shampoo... I think it's the body lotion... My friend at work gave me one. She said she bought 2 bottles of it coz she liked the scent but I guess his husband and son didn't... so she gave me the other bottle.. then she can just finished the used one."

He then moves closers and gently reaches for my neck to smell. "It smells sweet." He mumbles. His breathe onto my skin tickled, making me jerk a little.

"It's vanilla, I think and some flower." I move a little away from him, which he notices.

"Why?" He asks

"It tickles." I run my fingers one last time through my hair. "You could've just asked me if you want to smell it. I can give you my hand..."

He smiles, "But you already touched you hair... so it will smell like your shampoo or conditioner too..."

"So does my neck! My hair touches my neck."

His smile grows. "Or maybe I just like to smell your neck."

"Weirdo." I shake my head, rolling my eyes at him.

"I missed you." He suddenly says and then proceeds to lay his whole body to me.

"Hey!" I protest. "You're heavy!"

"You're a strong woman. You can handle me."

"I'm not buff like you!" I try to push him away, with all my might but I fail. "Ugh! I give up."

"Just... let me..." he squirms more to get comfy until he reaches to the idea to actually embrace me. "I miss you..."

Crap! Why is he so clingy like this. Oh dear lord. My heart is beating out of my chest!

"Do I make you nervous?"

Should I answer him honestly? If I do, would it make things between us... awkward?

"N-no..."

"You're lying..." he nuzzles his face closer to my neck. "I can feel it..."

"Then why ask then..."

He chuckles, "you're so sassy..."

I suddenly became quiet after that. I just continued watching the show that is on right now. I just let him be. I slowly relaxed after a few more heart beats.

It's Seungcheol. It's not like a stranger is hugging me. Besides this is what he is, clingy and very affectionate. It does not mean anything.

For him.

But for me, as a weak girl, the things we used to do as young kids, now makes my heart flutter. I'm not sure if its because of him or I'm just that needy for affection since I haven't really had a boyfriend for quite awhile now.

"Cheolie... why are you here?" I ask, breaking the silence. "It's almost midnight... the members or your manager would be worried."

"I'm an adult." He mumbles, he's eyes were closed all this time. Though he's not technically sleeping coz he moves a lot.

"Of course I know that. What I meant is---"

He abruptly moves, raising his head up. We are eyes to eye. "Do you?"

"Huh?"

"Do you really know... that I am an adult?"

"What are you talking about? Of course I know. We are the same age. 27 years old."

His gaze slowly goes down from my eyes down to my lips. "When I say, I miss you.. what do you feel?" He asks

"I don't understand..."

"I said earlier... I missed you."

"I heard."

"So...?"

"Ahm... so?"

He sighs and move back away. "Y/n, you promised me to be present in every performance and event I have."

"Hey... I only missed two."

"You did. I understand. But... you didn't told me ahead of time. You couls've texted me and said, 'hey, I'll not be at this and that because this and that.' So... I will not look like a fool going around the stage, searching for you if you are in your seat."

"I ahm..."

"I always save you a seat. In case you didn't get a chance to buy your own ticket. You always text me if you got a ticket... these two times you didn't so I asked my manager to save you a seat. For those two events, I looked at that seat and you weren't there."

"Sorry..."

"I asked my manager if you arrived... and when he said no..."

"Hey... I'm sorry okay? I got busy and I didn't know that---"

"Busy? You went on a date."

"Hey. Cheolie, you are being---"

"Being what?" He snaps.

"Are we seriously will fight over a date I had? One date?"

"We will... if that date means something to you."

"W-wait. What do you mean? I'm not following where is this going..."

"It's simple."

I look at him and waited for him to say anything but he just kept looking at me. He's eyes shows a different side of Cheolie that I haven't seen before.

"I'm jealous."

What did he say?

"y/n. I am... jealous..."

But why though?

I can't speak. I'm too stunned to even react.

"It means, I like you. No, actually... not like... but.. I...love you... Y/n."

I finally blinked and breathe when I hear my wall clock strike 12 midnight.

"W-what...?"

"You heard me."

I take a deep breath, hand on my chest and look away. I think I'm experiencing a heart attack. My heart is faster than normal and I can feel my veins in head beating. Is this normal?

"Look at me..." he takes my hand and pulls me closer back to him. "Y/n, relax..."

"H-how can I relax.. y-you said..."

"I said I love you... yes..."

"H-how can you say that s-so casually... oh my gosh..."

"Because it's true... I can say it a hundred times more now just for you to believe it."

"Are you drunk? Or are you sleepy? Or... are you pranking me? Because I didn't go ... or... or..."

"Y/n... I will kiss you if you don't stop..."

And so, I stop. I tried my best to recollect my thoughts and not let my sleepy head confuse me.

Then, I look at him. He looks so cute. He looks a bit disappointed that I did stop rambling. I guess he really did want to kiss me.

I am not prepared for this situation. Yes, I am a little out of order but I am not welcoming this.

"Do you want to kiss me?"

His eyes widens. "What did you say?"

"You heard me..." I now bravely move closer. Closer to the point that I am sitting on his lap.

He eyes follows my every move, smiling. "Y/n..."

"So...?"

His takes me in, his behind my neck and pull me into THE kiss.

OUR kiss started slow, eyes looking at each other, testing the water. But when he felt that I am into it, he begins to deepen the kiss. More need and more thirst.

"I've never imagine us... kissing." I say as we both catch our breathes

"You didn't?" He tilts his head on the side, one brow arched.

"Like... duh... you are s.coups... the leader of SVT."

"So?"

"So? Hello... look at me and then you."

He smiles and kisses me on my cheek. "You are Y/n....my y/n.... without you... there is no me... remember that."

I can feel my cheeks burning. I try to hide it by looking away

"Hey..." he cups my face and asks me to look back. "Don't hide... I haven't seen you this long for quite some time... let me see your face..."

"You're busy... you guys are rocking it lately..."

"Yeah... we are.. " he smiles.

I look down at my knotted fingers, "so... we kissed.. "

"We did." He kisses me on my cheek again. "Are you going to ask me what will be our relationship after the kiss?"

I nod.

"Simple. You are mine and I am yours now. Exclusively...." he bites his lowerlip, trying to supress his smile.

I snort a laugh.

"What's funny?"

"Nothing... it's just that..." I look at his pouting face. "I just can't believe this...us... we've been friends for a long time and... now... we're making out. On my couch. In my apartment. And at midnight. "

"Why not?"

"Well...." then my phone dings.

I bet it's either his manager or one of his members.

"Look... Joshua texted me... they are looking for you... you didn't told them that you're coming here?"

"I told no one."

"You sneaked out?!?!" I slap him on his chest lightly, "Cheolie! You will be in trouble!"

"So?"

"What you mean so? Your career. What if a fan saw you or anyone from the news?"

"So, my career is important than us? Like... hello we are discussing our relationship!"

And we are back to our bickering relationship. We always do this. But we're not actually fighting, this is just how we talk. We nag each other.

"Cheolie..." I get up and try to pull him off my couch. "Go... I don't want you to get in trouble." I try my very might to pull him but he's strong. "Get up!"

"Let me sleep over."

"No!"

"Why not? I always do... when I visit you."

"Well... this time its different." I let his hand go and sit on the chair across him.

"Don't worry, Y/N... I will not do anything..." he smiles, reassuring me.

"Okay... but atleast inform your members and manager..." he nods "and sleep in the couch...."

"Okay." He smiles and then spreads both his arms wide open. "A kiss and a hug before you grab me a pillow and blanket."

"Fine." I kiss and hug him tightly before I went into my room to grab pillows and blanket for him.

"I love you." He whispers as I walk back out.

Its a whisper. But I heard it. And my heart felt it.

"I... love you too." I answer

F.A.Q.

Something to link on my blog because I keep having people ask me the same stuff like, every week. So here's a summary of the blog and stuff

Q: What is this blog? A: Hi, I'm Dodo! And this is my Splatoon blog. This is primarily an art blog but somewhere along the way this has become a speculative biology blog and headcanon space. Put simply, it's "trying to turn Splatoon real".

Q: What do you post here? A: Mostly my Splatoon OCs. Occasionally, I post five mile long rant posts and essays about Splatoon, or Inkling biology, or my headcanons in educational comic form. If you've seen the Kraken Post or Inklings and Color or whatever I called that, those are mine.

Q: Why do your Inklings look like that? A: I approach Inklings from the angle of them being squids that evolved to be bipedal, rather than "human with some squid traits" as they're often depicted. Within the community, this is often referred to as "xeno inklings", which just means Inklings with animal traits. I don't really tag my art as such, but contextually it's the same thing. If that kind of thing makes you mad for some reason just don't follow.

Q: Your [insert headcanon here] is not canon compliant. A: Right, disclaimer now: a lot of the things here are NOT canon compliant. I try to keep most stuff canon compliant, but sometimes things are stupid or make no sense and that's when we build around it.

Q: Can I use your headcanons/inkfish designs? A: This is a question I get regularly. Feel free to use my headcanons and inkfish designs! You can also build upon them or use them as inspiration for your own headcanons. All I ask is not to copy my OC designs.

Q: Where can I see/read your headcanons? A: My headcanon tag is #squidthoughts.

Q: Where can I see your art/OCs? A: On the blog, my art tag is #dodo art, you can also see comics at #dodo comics (and here is a masterpost of links to the bigger ones). If you want to see profiles for my OCs and more comprehensive art galleries, see my toyhouse)

Q: What program do you use to draw? A: Clip Studio Paint, mostly keep it simple with one brush lol. I doubt anyone was going to ask about brushes anyway because I literally just use one with pretty much no line variation.

Q: Do you do requests/commissions/art trades? A: None of these... sorry!

Q: Do you have Art Fight? A: Yes! I usually go hard on the event (my final tally for 2023 was 69 attacks). My page.

Q: Can I send an ask? A: Yeah, but keep in mind I sometimes take a while to answer. Also, if you're just going to send your own headcanons, consider just publishing them to your own blog (it gets frustrating getting "asks" where there's not actually anything to answer). Also if you're going to send something mean because you don't like something, just leave instead and go send something nice to someone you like.

Q: Can I ask about your OCs? A: I accept asks for and about my OCs with open arms. In fact, you can send asks directed to my OCs in my ask box and I'll draw a response in most cases. (Tag for these: #ask oc)

Q: When did you start playing Splatoon? A: I started in late 2015, with Splatoon 1. But I started this blog around 2018, I think? If you play Splatoon, you might've seen me (sticky boy). I mostly play Salmon Run.

Q: What's your main weapon? A: I've grown as a person and am no longer an E-Liter 4K main. However, I don't really have a main. I like variety in games and my goal has been 3-starring every weapon in the game... so eh. I like Chargers, Rollers and Splatlings the best. Also if I get annoyed enough I revert back to being an E-Liter main. Sorry

Q: Do you play other games? A: Before Splatoon, Zelda was my main fandom alongside Pokemon. My favorite games are Pokemon Legends Arceus, Zelda: Twilight Princess, Splatoon, Night in the Woods and Minecraft. Other than Splatoon and Minecraft though I barely ever play anything else. Q: Are you American? A: Despite the fact that I'm always posting shit at US afternoon times, I am in fact from northern Europe. My sleep schedule is just all over the place and I get productive at 11pm onward. lol. (Guess what time it is right now!!??!?)

Q: What if a question I was going to ask wasn't here? A: My ask box is open. Just send it there and if it's a common enough question, it'll probably pop up in this list later.

Mandatory addition: I also run @splatreference. If you're an artist or writer, the blog has pose references for every weapon in the game, and references for stages and in-game areas.

WIP Wednesday and a big update to Reclaiming Home

yes I'm doing another massive update because it's all been sitting banked and I'll feel better once it's out. Also, because it's Wednesday and this is my main WIP atm so boom, two birds and all that jazz.

tagging the coemancer crew, @silurisanguine, @fangbangerghoul, @staticpallour, @eridanidreams, @bearlytolerant, @aro-pancake, @lisa-and-shadow, @a-cosmic-elf, @order-of-the-eye, @toxiclizardwrites and anyone I might have forgotten <3 here's a snippet of the WIP that was posted to ao3 below. To start from the beginning of the update (chapter 5-11 is the big update) click here.

Cora stared back at the monitor, at her unfinished letter, “when I was younger I tried really hard to get him and my mom back together. I didn’t want things to change. I liked having my dad more but I was still scared of the changes. She just stopped coming around and I tried really hard to rebuild my family.”

“Changes are scary,” Frost agreed.

“I know my dad and Doc are trying to take it slow, to start over. I don’t want him to think I’m trying that again with Doc. I don’t want them to think I’m trying to rush them.” Cora felt her voice going shaky and she didn’t like it. Big girl, no tears.

“You could tell them that,” Frost reasoned, “it doesn’t matter the original purpose of the album, it’s just pictures now.”

“I like Doc a lot,” her voice broke and she stopped, trying to stop the emotions from coming.

“That’s natural, she’s a delightful soul,” Frost said.

Cora laughed, a tear breaking through, “Right?”

“Why does that make you sad?” Frost asked.

“I don’t want to drive her away too,” Cora whimpered and pulled her knees up to her chest, sitting in a tight ball on the big chair.

“I don’t see that happening, little bookworm,” Frost assured her.

Cora hugged her shins and steadied her breathing. Hearing that from Frost was comforting and she was trying to hold onto his words, “Can I ask you a question?”

“Anything,” Frost said. He leaned against the wall, his arms relaxed at his sides.

“Do you remember my mom?” she asked, “Have you ever met her?”

“I have,” Frost nodded, “I do.”

“Do you think she loves me?” Cora asked, her eyes glued to the monitor.

“I think she loves having a daughter,” Frost said.

It wasn’t what she asked and yet answered so much. She sniffed and wiped her eyes, letting her legs relax to sit crossed-legged in the chair, “Does she like our secret book club?”

“She is proud of your little secret,” he said.

Another half answer that said so much with so little, “Do you think she’d notice if I stopped picking books? If I stopped?”

“Yes,” Frost nodded.

“Thank you,” Cora said as she went to finish her letter, “I should get this done while we’re closer to the FC satellite so it’ll get to her faster.”

“May I ask you a question?” Frost asked.

“Yeah,” Cora looked over.

“Do you enjoy your secret book club?” he asked.

Cora sat quiet, pondering his question. They’d started the book club as a way of sharing one of Cora’s interests and giving them more to talk about. Mom wanted it to be a secret because mom mentioned her dad not liking it, which Cora thought silly but then again they fought so much whenever they talked that it was possible. She didn’t like keeping that secret from her dad, she felt bad every time she lied about it, but it was what mom wanted.

Then there was the fact that mom took so long to read the books Cora picked. She knew her mom was busy with work but she was pretty sure it was actually taking so long because her mom didn’t like the books. She frowned, “I wish it didn’t have to be a secret.”

Frost nodded, “secrets can weigh heavy on the soul.”

Get to Know Me (tag game)

I guess I don’t post much about myself on here, so behold the mystery of Jyar’ika revealed under the cut (because I waffle and didn't wanna take up y’all’s dashes)…

Ahh space to include GIFs (*is happy*)...

1. Were you named after anyone? Hmm, that’s a sneaky way to get a name reveal outta me. Alright, I don’t mind… apparently one of the hosts on Blue Peter (the longest-running children’s TV show in the world - you’re not getting an age reveal outta me too!) had a baby just before I was born. Why my parents were watching a children’s TV show I have no idea, but this host evidently wrote/sang some kinda song on air about calling her baby daughter Jemma with a J not Gemma with a G. So I was named after a terribly trite and obscure TV reference that nobody will ever remember. You may call me Jem if you wish, my friends all do, and if you’re bothering to read this then you’re in that category.

(If you're wondering about the GIF, the show was always broadcast live and they had several pets. The outtakes are numerous.)

2. When was the last time you cried? I think I’m weird… I don’t tend to cry? Or only if I’m really really upset. Maybe I’m Cameron Diaz in The Holiday? So yeah, I can’t actually remember 🤔.

3. Do you have kids? Nope, although it’s a fairly recent decision to not have them. I spent much of my life assuming I wanted kids until I realised I had been conditioned by society to think I did. Since I started considering what I genuinely want and need in my life, I’ve never been happier! I'd make an exception to adopt a certain little green guy, though.

4. What sports do you play/have played? Ugh, I hate questions like this. Nope, I’m a lazy asshole and now you all know it 🫣. I mean, I activity-hopped throughout my school years (gymnastics, karate, soccer), but these days I live in front of a computer. My exercise is lugging 24 bottles of water up 4 flights of stairs twice a week.

5. Do you use sarcasm? I’m British. Sarcasm is my mother tongue.

6. What’s the first thing you notice about people? I’m the least observant person ever! So voices a lot of the time, I think. Pretty sure that’s why something clicked inside me as soon as Din Djarin spoke his first on-screen words.

7. What’s your eye color? Depends on the light, but somewhere between dark blue and grey.

8. Scary movies or happy endings? I’m an absolute wuss when it comes to scary movies, so I don’t put myself through that. Also, the literature student in me desperately wants to point out that these things are not mutually exclusive, as you can have scary movies with happy endings, so a more appropriate ‘either/or’ scenario would be tragedies or happy endings. But either way, I will say no to the former and yes to the latter. I dislike making myself feel scared or sad – I consume fiction (in all formats) to feel good, so I’ll always look for the positive. I’m currently experimenting to see if I can write a massively angsty fic, and it was supposed to be done by the New Year, but I’m struggling. I will also have to include one of those open-ended ‘maybe it could work out after all’ epilogues. I just can’t leave my characters in pain.

9. Any talents? Not sure what constitutes a talent… I can sing, play guitar, write a longass Din Djarin fanfic that people seem quite keen on, uh… cook, I guess (though I rarely bother), understand quite a few languages (less proficient at speaking them). I’m sort of a jack of all trades, master of none. I would say I have a talent for procrastination – I can complete a whole workday and get barely anything of substance done!

10. Where were you born? In a village outside a town in Surrey, England. It's only about 30 miles from London. Lots of trees. Very dull. I left as soon as I could.

11. What are your hobbies? Writing is my main obsession, specifically Din Djarin-related, of course. Also reading (same genre). Throughout my entire life I’ve enjoyed stories in all formats – reading, writing, watching, listening, proofreading the fuck out of them – so if it’s a good yarn, I’ll have a good time.

12. Do you have any pets? Not currently, my landlord won’t allow it. I used to own 3 rats who were the most adorable boys and so smart – they knew their names, responded to commands, liked to snuggle. When I can finally buy my own place I’ll probably get a dog, as I like pets that listen to you, even if only sporadically. I had a very non-communicative chameleon once. He was called Minion. He was not a good minion.

13. How tall are you? 5’4. Not tiny, but sometimes I have to go up on my tippytoes to reach stuff.

14. Favorite subject in school? English literature (see hobbies question above). When I got to university and enrolled on an English lit/lang degree, I tried to take as many literature courses and avoid the language ones. It wasn’t until years after graduating when I started proofing/editing and writing more seriously that I developed a respect for all the mandatory language courses I had to do. I also liked media studies and film studies; you can guess why. Psychology was interesting too, it’s good to understand human nature if you want to write realistic characters.

15. Dream job? I wish I could write novels for a living. It’s a goal as well as a dream. I know a couple of authors who’ve self-published via Kindle Direct Publishing (I proofread/edited for one of them), and they were successful enough to turn that into their careers. They keep encouraging me to try, although I’m currently in my ‘obsessed with Din Djarin so just writing fanfic to develop my authorial voice’ era. When my obsession wanes, as obsessions inevitably do, I’ll hopefully feel ready to write something original and take my shot. But I’m not pressuring myself, and right now I’m happy attempting to entertain the Mandalorian fan community. I feel safe here 💖

I saw ur post abt marauders. I joined the fandom like 5 months ago and am very deep already. (Also- side note- BYLER! I need them to be canon!)

So I thought i’d give you some insight. I hope this is not too overwhelming.

So, I started from Wolfstar, ran into a couple of tiktok, learnt fan casts of the main five (marauders and Lily) and picked up some headcanons (which says a lot about the fandoms perception of a character)

a lot of ppl will say to read the long fics (such as ATYD) but that’s totally up to you. I still haven’t read those cause I can’t read long fics.

I read a lot of one shots, sometimes factoring in character tags on ao3, so I could see a little more of different characters.

Oh and I found fanart of the big group (including the slytherins) helpful. Once I could identify everyone from fanart alone just by scrolling through tumblr I felt like i’d achieved something (since all the characters look very different to canon. Eg, they’re not all white anymore- thank god).

So you start with Marauders (James, Sirius, Remus, Peter). Then there’s Lily, Mary, Marlene in Gryffindor.

Then an extension of that is Dorcas, Pandora, Barty and Evan in Slytherin with Regulus (Sirius’ brother). Although sometimes Dorcas and Pandora are in different houses but usually that friend group.

Then there’s more depth but I won’t overwhelm you too much (there’s a massive part of the fandom just dedicated to Black family lore tbh)

oh and learning to identify ship names is another whole thing.

Wolfstar (Remus and Sirius), Prongsfoot (James and Sirius), Sunseeker/Starchaser (James and Regulus), Moonwater (Remus and Regulus), Moonflower (Remus and Lily), Nobleflower (Alice and Narcissa), Rosekiller (Barty and Evan), Quillkiller (Bellatrix and Rita Skeeter).

Oh and I have to add Dorlene (Dorcas and Marlene) who I don’t think have a ship name like that but I love them so yeah.

And obviously you don’t have to go as deep as Rita and Bella- they’re a bit of a push to be considered marauders fandom anyway. And you can ship whoever you like. Or not ship anyone if you prefer- these can be used platonically.

Basically I have no idea what level of Marauders knowledge you already have, but i’d say tumblr headcanons help a lot and don’t be afraid to ask questions cause most ppl in the fandom are lovely and happy to explain :)

i'm a lazy shit, and usually forget. when my friends comment they also tend to message me about it in the mat discord (if you're 18+ and want to join hmu it's a lot of fun) where i post all my fics too, so i tend to reply to them over there to be honest, but sometimes when i remember or am particularly touched by a comment i will go and reply

6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

definitely "tell me what you imagine, when you think of me." rip ariel. literally

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

okay well it's not actually finished yet, though i have a good idea of where i'm taking it when i get around to writing more, but i'd say Fixer-Upper probably. chris waltzes into joe's life, improves it, then starts giving him lots of kinky sex while they also dance around ~actually dating~ (which they will end up doing properly. when i get around to writing it)

8. Do you get hate on fics?

generally, no. i make it clear what my fics contain, whether that's kinks, rpf, dubcon/noncon, etc, so most people know not to click if they're not interested. i did have a hate comment on simon says a while back, i remember because it was genuinely funny

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

yes, lol. and all kinds, ranging from sweet to kinky as sin

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

i write many crossovers, i mean. i write a lot of mat character/mat character so like chris x joe (spy x reluctant persuaders), ariel x chris (ymata x spy), but yeah they're only really crossovers in the sense that i'm like hmm this mat character should fuck/date this mat character. the only ones i *properly* create a believable crossover world for are my chris x joe fics, because i'm very normal about them

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

don't see why anyone would bother stealing mine, the mat fandom is so tiny there's not much to steal. emma @toomanyfandomsneverenoughtime has written a few fics based on my favourite chris x joe crossover world i created, though, which isn't stealing but the greatest gift ever <3

no, actually! i would 1000000% cowrite with emma though. if she wanted to :3

i fully intend to finish my wips! i have the next chapter and a half written for Paid in Trade, i just haven't published it, and i've also got further plans for Fixer-Upper, and those are my only wips. most of my fics just tend to be smutty oneshots tbh

15. What are your writing strengths?

i write pretty good smut when i actually put in the effort, as opposed to being like oh god i have this smutty idea and i need to get it out of my head so i'm just gonna write it all in two hours and then post it because why not

16. What are your writing weaknesses?

having patience. i'm trying to write a longer sam/marat fic at the moment but i just keep wanting to rush ahead to the good bit rather than drag out the slow burn, even though i really want to. i'm impatient af tbh

17. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

i only speak english and would probably definitely butcher another language. however if i ever have a need for a character to speak another language, i would probably make it czech so i could get @the-illuminated-one to provide me with actual sensical sentences as opposed to google translating it

18. First fandom you wrote for?

ohhhh wow kingdom hearts lol. but those are all wiped from the internet. there's still some ancient glee fics i wrote out there though, which came right after the kh era

keeping it within the mat fandoms once again (otherwise i will just talk about my jopper fake dating fic which i am still so fucking proud of lol), probably come closer (ariel x jamie), but there's also a few fics i'm working on that are completely unpublished atm that i am very very attached to haha

user meeblo made me want to do a nostalgia trip through my first operators and the context I got them, if anyone cares! and its pretty funny i swear because you can see my eternal struggle to get just one non rare operator (im cursed)

under the cut because mass posting of screenshots from my game

I remember I joined just after Ideal City concluded, so I never got the occasion to get Gavial alter, F

But the joint operation banner for CC #10 was here! and many liberi operators available in it, so i pulled so much

seems like dobermann was my first pull, which i remember being happy with because i was convinced she was a rare/strong operator since she was in the main scenario... well i ended up barely using her

Exusiai was my first 6-stars from that guaranteed banner, and Quercus my first 5-stars from standard pool 81! I really wanted Mudrock at the time, but I was too focused on getting the birds out of the CC#10 banner

La Pluma my BELOVED, i got her on the CC#10 banner and she carried me through the entire game, and also was my second E2, she's amazing

a bit more of 5-stars history, Ayerscape soon followed and was my main too for a while - then I realized around a week after I started the game that I had vouchers (i am so oblivious), and got Projekt Red and Silence from them! I literally started the game for these two, AND Aciddrop that I rolled not long after, so I was really happy about it! and shout-out to Mr.Nothing who showed up on the CC#10 banner

Finally, some 6-stars!

So, a fun story. you see how La Pluma, Mr. Nothing, Passenger and Mulberry have a ton of potential? Well. It's because the banner was about to end and I REALLY wanted Magallan. so, yeah. i whaled a bit. never pulled Magallan. Passenger showed up so many times I still can't believe it

Also got Carnelian - and we can see the first side stories I did, in the heart of a surging flame was the first because I've been told that Ceylon was a BIRD

Here it starts to be funny

I pulled Blaze and Fiammetta so randomly as off-banners, then on a standard banner, I got Phantom and Aak (off-banner) on my first 10 pulls

Dossoles Holidays event rerun, we can see I was farming CC at that time since I got Erato and Bibeak, then Dorothy Vision happened, from which I pulled Ptilopsis, I really wanted her!

Saga is here because my biggest struggle when I started was with Vanguards. I only used Texas and Courrier, and it was awful - a friend recommended me to pull Saga because she was a very good Vanguard, and she arrived, glad she did! I still use her today

Now. Now we go into the funny.

I rolled Mlynar out of boredome in like 13 pulls because "apparently he's strong so why not" (never used him), Conviction from April's fool, and now, we go into the problem.

LAPPLAND.

At that time I was around chapter 5-6? and there was a lot of those explosive slugs, ice slugs and stuff. I NEEDED Lappland, I kept borrowing her as a support unit. And good for me, she got a banner, with Ifrit and Weedy! So I pulled

I got both Ifrit and Weedy, then TWO off banners, Archetto and Hoshiguma, before I got Lappland. She took me 100 goddamn pulls to get her. I hate you Lappland

Then my first top operator tag with Saria! i was in italy at the time. italian saria. then Nearl Light rerun

Now the enter the second funny and it's worse than Lappland.

Yes. A 4-stars. With 50% rate to drop.

See Ch'en, Stainless and Goldenglow? I pulled these 3 BEFORE TOTTER. JUST. HOW. I must have slapped 100 rolls too for him, for just a 4-stars. i am cursed i told you.

Flametail is very funny. Her banner was up and I was like "well, i pretty much like her, and i wouldn't say no to another vanguard, but im afraid i wont pull her, and im trying to save..."

Then i got her FIRST PULL? she wanted me

i screamed and shaked irl

THEN I rolled for Ashlock because if i get Flametail I HAD to get Ashley. do not separate them

Got Irene on her banner with Ceobe as well, really glad I did I really loved her and using her in IS3!

With the thank you celebration i decided to put an end to my failed Magallan hunt on CC#10 banner and directly bought her from the 6-stars voucher

Texalter and Penance I got on Il Siracusano banner because. yeah. i didn't really wanted them but cool i guess

Break the Ice rerun, I rolled like hell for Gnosis (BIRD), then got a senior operator tag with Elysium, directly followed by a top operator tag with Hellagur! then CC#11 happened and I rolled Fartooth in my first 10 rolls

Once again rolled very hard for Skadi and got her!! Mayer appeared on the next banner :]

Then What the Firelast Cast while I was visiting a friend. this friend saw me going through all stages of grief trying to roll Reedalter and getting Pozy and Mudrock instead, but finally got them...

I got Schwarz from that one banner with a guaranteed 6-stars you don't have, was secretly hoping for Mostima

Justice Knight 👏 DROPPED completing my Pinus Sylvestris gang

3.5 anniversary and I bought the one voucher that guaranteed either Dorothy, Surtr or Silverash, and got Dorothy, woo! I got Chongyue while trying to get Firewhistle potentials

And finally my last hunt with Cantabile, in like 140~ rolls, where I pulled a dupe Blaze and Irene, but I got Reed so that's a W

And Mostima, I'm glad she showed so soon because i was TIRED

I can finally save for Lone Trail now! I have about 100 rolls saved in one month without any pulls (except the free ones), so goal to 300 rolls before the event starts!

Just saw your post about having to block the doctor strange x reader tag, and I must agree it's become the predominant DS fic that comes up as recommended on my feed as well. There are several authors I enjoy reading in that category (although lately the overall amount of fics is overwhelming), but I only started writing them myself as my stephen x ofc fics could never gain a bit of traction. I have a theory that if I went back and changed my ofc's to reader inserts, I'd probably gain a lot more readers--but I can never bring myself to doing that as I wouldn't be true to myself as an author.

I suppose that's just a writerly woe I'm sharing with someone who might understand.😏 But I'm curious; are you open to reading non-romance fics featuring original characters? I've found that tumblr can be quite snobbish towards that species of fic.

I wanted to reply to this ages ago but it requires my computer and some thinking, so I kept pushing it off again and again and again and whelp, here we are. My bad. ><

I'm the same way where being true to myself as an author is writing what I want, so I get you there. Doesn't get As Much Engagement as other tropes would, but y'know what, I can live with that. If anything, I've actually found that the fic I compromised most on (because it was for a themed exchange) is one I want to reread the least. So if anything, a lot of me writes for "do I want to reread this in the future" and that has helped me since.

It's funny since OFC romances used to be pretty popular way back when, but I guess "reader" took over that audience over the last decade because the majority of the people just wanted to insert themselves into the position instead of reading about a full-fleshed character? Honestly not sure.

Right, I keep delaying the reason I took so long to get back to you - non-romance fics with OCs. The answer, by the way, is yes. Great OCs are fantastic, but you don't tend to see many OCs outside of romance, or you only see them as side characters in another pairing's fic. They don't often have starring or co-starring roles. But I wanted to find examples with great OCs which would take time.

And now I'm taking that time. Here's some good OC-starring fics that I scoured through the tag. They're difficult to find. I had to smudge that requirement after a while. Then I gave up after I got to 2 years back in the tag.

Some of the stories that I know have very good OCs are also IronStrange, but I know that's not your cup of tea so I left it out. But I found a handful.

Keshwyn was the author that came to mind when you originally sent this ask, but I wanted to have more than one author when I wrote this. Read their series, highly recommend, top-tier OCs across the whole spectrum, with the main star being female.

This fic by LexLemon is technically PalmerStrange, but the OCs are her parents, so it's basically a delight in my eyes as Stephen's fish-out-of-water act is always funny to me.

Dragonnan writes good OCs, usually the mean sort though, the ones who hurt Stephen rather than befriend him (male and female lmao), but if you're in a whumpy mood at some point...

This isn't technically an OC, but I don't know the character from the comics, so she's an OC to me! This Stephen's new apprentice is Casey Kinmont fic by Stratagem. They just updated recently too, need to cheer them on at some point.

*sigh* Sorry love, I ran out of good OC fics that didn't have background/primary IronStrange that I could find/remember. But yeah. There's some fic/author recs.

(If anyone wants to add to the list, feel free to leave a comment or reblog. I was avoiding IronStrange for the asker in particular but I don't think the asker sees reblogs so go for it if you'd like).

Also, I love the OCs that I've come up with for my various stories in both LOTR and the MCU. I'll ramble all about them if you (or someone) wants me to, quite happily.

a big thank yee to @kaylinalexanderbooks who tagged me in this thingy! I read your post btw and we share so many things in common I can't believe I haven't asked you to be my best friend sooner :). Anyway, here it is!

Are you named after anyone? Yes, actually. I'm named after my mom's best friend from college who has unfortunately passed away, but she was the best. She and I share the same love for helping people, and I wish that I had gotten to meet her in person.

When was the last time you cried? This afternoon. I've been reading through The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien and it's both one of the best and most depressing books I've read this year.

Do you have kids? Do my pets count? Otherwise nope lol. (although my bearded dragon acts like a child most of the time)

Do you use sarcasm a lot? Ummm...yes. that is my main sense of humor as well as my main coping mechanism (please don't tell my psychiatrist this, she will hunt me down and drag me to therapy).

What's the first thing you notice about people? Definitely their smiles. You can tell a lot about people by the way they smile (if they are forcing it/if they're genuinely happy), and it helps me know how to help them/how they are feeling. I'm also apparently scarily perceptive of people and have the ability to see through people even when they seem like a brick wall to others so that helps I guess lol.

What's your eye color? Dark brown

Scary movies or happy endings? Definitely happy endings. Even as old as I am in my early 20s, scary movies make me want to cry lol. I love a good happy ending :).

Any special talents? I'm in the process of being the first sci-fi fantasy author in my family so I guess that counts? I also am known as the animal whisperer in my friend group (a whole ass deer family came up to me once while I was eating a sandwich and I got to pet them and it was nice lol), and my presence attracts all the little hobgoblin animals and its hilarious.

Where were you born? central Illinois unfortunately. ever heard of Champaign-Urbana? Yeah, it's right in the middle of nowhere.

What are your hobbies? I love writing, playing guitar and ukulele, and taking pictures of animals. I also dabble in painting/sketching and am in the process of painting murals at my place rn (currently working on a wall piece of studio ghibli/avatar the last airbender murals). The Dragon Prince and Dota: Dragon's Blood have special places in my heart on Netflix, and you'll often find me binge-watching them on days when I can't find anything else to do. Video games are also a favorite pastime of mine (I will legit not shut up about them once you get me started).

Do you have any pets? Yeah! I have a cat, two dogs, and a sassy bearded dragon named Zuko who likes cuddling on my face/my laptop when I'm trying to finish teaching projects for college.

What sports do you play/have you played? I've been playing golf for the past five years, and love it. It's very relaxing, and honestly very stress-relieving (except when you shoot a ball into the water and that one old couple you see every time at the course starts laughing as they see a otherwise composed woman throw her club and shout obscenities at a geological feature that swallowed a $10 ball). I tried my hand at soccer way back when, but hated competitive playing and instead now teach little kids how to play at my local elementary school sometimes.

How tall are you? 5'7

Favorite subject in school? I adored English, art, and history. I took a theatre class in my first year of college and found a love for it (my professor wanted me to try out for the play but I turned him down and it still haunts me). I also have a strange fascination for philosophy.

Dream job? Elementary school teacher and author (I can't wait to graduate and have my own classroom with those little goblins lol)

I use like the same 4 Logan hate tags so it’s not gonna be a sneak attack. Also even though I post logan hate, I AM ALWAYS OPEN TO DEBATING. I’m very open-minded and will change my opinion if you make a good point that I can’t refute. I just have not run into anyone who could do that yet.

okay now for the fun stuff. You said you like Logan because he contributes to the group, but I disagree. I feel like Logan has contributed least to the group. When you say “he keeps level-headed”, I feel the opposite. Logan is very shy and timid, and he gets scared very easily. Logan is very easy to persuade and intimate, which is why he got bullied in the first place. Although he stood up to Barron, he wasn’t level headed at all. He was clouded with rage (which in part has to do with the phantoms) but shows he cannot control his emotions well. In many offical arts + earlier chapters, Logan is seen crying / hesitating constantly. Yes he has a reason to be terrified, but you cannot say he is level headed. Especially compared to everyone else. I’m not sure how I feel about him being able to make decisions under pressure. I think Logan is good at analyzing situations. Thats why he was able to come up with multiple theories about the phantom world. But I feel like in order to say he makes good decisions under pressure, he’d have to actually put these decisions into action. Logan is still very hesitant though and I don’t want to base his character off of one scene, especially because I’ve talked about why I feel like that scene was a cover up and not genuine. Most of the time Logan follows the instructions and commands of others. He actually buckles under pressure imo. like when they were fighting before getting the car, Logan would’ve never mentioned he was scared if Tyler had not spoken first. He would’ve just followed everyone else due to peer pressure. Logan always acts second. I honestly believe if he had saw Aiden on the roof he would’ve never even considered using his gun because he avoids situations that have a lot of pressure and responsibility. So no, I don’t believe Logan makes good decisions under pressure. Again that’s just my opinion and I’m down to talk about it more! but if you do want to debate pls js reblog this or put another ask in bc the comment word limit is so annoying 😭

Yes, my first name came from my dad’s tai chi teacher’s wife. Which sounds like a weird random connection, but they were practically his second set of parents so, yeah.

When was the last time you cried?

Yesterday. This morning? idk man i’m on an emergency trip back home at my parent’s place for mental health reasons i am not at my most resilient rn

Do you have kids?

As in actual kids I birthed myself, hell fucking no, but considering the age gap between me and my brothers I half-consider them my own kids in some ways.

Do you use sarcasm a lot?

Why no, never. Not at all. Not even the tiniest slightest bit. Perish the thought.

Scary movies or happy endings?

Happy endings, usually, because for a long time I was too wimpy for any kind of horror. In recent years I’ve really started getting into it but I still tend to go to media for happy endings because real life generates enough horror for me most days MY GOD what is happening with the chickens!?!

Sorry our flock of chicks was being really loud just now because one got separated by a thin concrete wall that was very echo-y lol (they’re fine now)

Any special talents?

Eh, dunno about that. My party trick used to be leaning over backwards really low (think, like, for playing limbo or Matrix bullet-dodging) without falling over or touching the ground, but the pandemic nuked my stamina and all physical ability, so I’ve just been in mild but constant pain for the past year or so.

I guess I’m decently quick at picking up the very basics of new creative mediums (paints or embroidery or whatever), maybe that counts.

nvm it was a second chick that got separated earlier as well and was hanging around the kitchen door, which was why it was so loud. It’s fine and much quieter now.

What are your hobbies?

Writing and drawing mainly, but I’m the kind of person who has five million hobbies because I need to rotate between them to keep myself interested. So auxiliary hobbies include costume making (covers a lot of different hobbies honestly), swimming (in the ocean. and not like, proper forms and all that. just being in the water basically), parkour (can’t at present for physical condition), roller/ice skating (once again, not atm), started woodcarving the other day (kinda falls under costume making because i’m trying to make a wizard staff lol) and whatever else I feel like taking a stab at for one day and then maybe never again (I should try fencing. maybe when my back isn’t in constant pain)

Have any pets?

At my parent’s place, there’s a cat, a dog (both fairly elderly), bunch of half-wild chickens, various fish, and a tortoise (the kind that get big). Don’t keep any pets at my place because I travel back and forth too much and it wouldn’t work logistically.

What sports do you play/have you played?

Like on an official team/club? None, aside from parkour briefly. Otherwise it’s stuff I mentioned in hobbies that I learned either on my own or had a friend casually give me tips or something. My parents have been teaching me tai chi on and off through the years? Does that count it’s a martial art isn’t it I mean

How tall are you?

5′2″ is what I tell people. Technically I’m just a hair too short for that but it sounds defensive to say 5′1.8″ when I don’t actually care that much lol

Favorite subject in school?

Art, enjoyed the marine biology course I got to take in hs. Was good at English but never loved the way any of my teachers taught it. Technically my hs history class was my favorite but that was bc of the teacher and not the subject matter.

Dream job?

I’ve always wanted to be a fantasy writer, but I figure that can be a long term goal. For now, for a job that would sustain me? I would LOVE to be involved in theater costuming or even just grunt work in a production company. Something creative and silly. I’m considering applying to work at Tokyo Disneyland despite grievances with the company overall just because being in a themed environment every day and getting to see “behind the scenes” does sound fun. Even though I’m sure the work culture is probably horrible. idk something to do with costumes or practical effects would be amazing.

I also love bugs and animals but I have a harder time visualizing myself working in related fields there

Um…hope you don’t mind me trying to guess this but about the recent ask about Oblivion and the Wife-ified character’s designs and the hints to the newcomer…would it happen to be Tripataka? (Like, we know the newcomer will be involved with Sun Wukong and Macaque because of the sun and moon thing and Tripataka needed Wukong’s protection thought the journey and I remember you mentioning Mac finding a bug so…yeah. I’m officially more worried now)

But yes. In one of our Bad Ends, the Tang Monk does, in fact, get caught.

See a certain Monk isn't happy with the celestial realm's strict, stay the hell away from there until we know what's up, policy. And so he's very much breaking the rules to help Sun Wukong and is one of the main reasons said monkey is still mostly sane and not heavily brainwashed. In the 'middle ground' ending, he's one of the major players in finding out the origins of oblivion and how to stop it.

However, because Sanzang can only do so much, SWK is sill getting brainwashed and there were certain things that pushed him over the edge about the Jade Emporer's rules and... well lets just say that a certain Monk might have thrown a certain staff at a certain bureaucrat's face and then left.

Which, while awesome and enabling him to help more directly, means that he's also around, somewhat. Physically there and tangible because he went to see Macaque (who is ally but also there's a whole clusterfuck of stuff there)

And being physically present means that there's the opportunity for him to be... found.

And caught.

And a certain Prince has a certain calabash that has been remade to blast Oblivion and overwhelm whoever's inside it.

And there's only so long anyone, even an enlightened being, can hold out against that.

And, well, just maybe a certain monk has been pinning and in denial for a very, VERY long time. And maybe something get's said inside the calabash that sparks a whole chain of other unpleasantness, and a crack in the armor that a certain Tyrant Prince can use to break him.

All of this started with an Oblivion induced confession after all, things are just staying true to their roots

long hot take incoming:

in my opinion, the actual text of season four (both volumes) doesn’t read as queerbaiting. from what i’m seeing, the main reason a lot of people are feeling like it does right now is because of the marketing.

having official accounts and interviews play up a ship for it not to happen in the season they’re promoting is.. a weird choice. however, i honestly think that if they hadn’t done that, the tags would mostly be full of analysis in the same way they were post volume one. i think we’d have an influx of posts saying how obvious it is that we are building up towards season five byler and how, yeah, will didn’t say the words “i’m gay,” but we don’t need that because he’s obviously queer.

now, if you feel queerbaited, if you are upset and angry: you are valid. this is not in any way me trying to say you’re not.

but i also think this is why, in the age of social media and constant content being thrown at us, we need to stop looking outside of the show for confirmation. stranger things isn’t an anthology, it’s a full running storyline that has not been completed yet. we still have an entire season! and yeah, i also would’ve liked to have s4 byler and a full coming out scene—although i’m still not sure that i personally need that? like will is queer. he is. we see it. i don’t need to be told everything point blank, but i also understand wanting explicitly stated queer characters and don’t fault anyone for that. but to reiterate: not a complete story yet. there’s nothing to say we won’t get that! but—i think in large due to the length of this season—people aren’t treating it like a series. they’re treating it like a stand alone piece.

if i’m reading a book series and four out of five books are published, but the plot lines started in the first book and carried throughout the series don’t wrap up in the fourth book.. i’m going to assume that they will in the last installment. it is good writing to carry plot lines until the end. if everything gets resolved, there would be no more room for character and relationship development, which would lead to ONLY plot-driven scenarios. i want more character-driven conflict, but we can’t have that if they all end before the last season. it would feel so weird if all of the character conflicts we’ve seen building the entire series were wrapped up and then season five had to come up with new, last-minute bullshit ones. it would feel inorganic and like they were creating conflict for the sake of conflict, not to resolve the entire story. i know instant gratification sounds nice and can be momentarily exciting.. but it would feel empty when we then have the entire last season being filled with random character issues to pad what could’ve been a long, emotionally fulfilling plot point.

plus, again this is all my personal opinion, but i don’t want will to come out in a moment where he feels like a mistake. i don’t want him to come out in the same scene that he is grappling with internalized homophobia. that feels self destructive. that feels dangerous. like yes, i know we have monsters and super powers so it doesn’t have to be completely realistic, but part of will’s character is that he struggles with his sexuality. it would be incoherent to erase that to give him a full on coming out scene, unless something happens in the plot to push it along—which in that moment, the plot needed el. the plot needed mike to support el and will to support them both. yeah, of course it all fucking hurt! it was supposed to. i don’t think we were meant to be rooting for mike and eleven being in love in that scene? i think we were supposed to see will being will and putting others first to his own detriment. i think we were supposed to see el still needing support and not getting the right kind—she failed—that was not a happy love scene. i think we were supposed to see mike, once again scrambling with his own internalized inadequacy and being unable to do anything helpful without will supporting him. i get how this could all read as will being used to push mike and eleven’s relationship further, because that was my initial reaction too.. but then i sat and thought about it, outside of my own ideas of what i wanted to happen and let the show tell it’s fucking story and.. that wasn’t a mike/eleven scene in a good way. that wasn’t framed for will as a good thing, personally or for his friendship with mike.

for a community that can analyze to hell and back, it seems weird that a lot of us are taking this all at face value. and i think it’s because we listened to marketing and promoting instead of listening to and watching what the show was actually giving us. i also think it’s because we are all a bit disappointed, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing to be, actually? sometimes being sad over not having something can make you appreciate it more when you get it. i didn’t want a quick will coming out, i want to explore his feelings more—which has definitely happened throughout this season and seems like it will culminate in the next. i’d rather be a bit bummed out now and get a better will plot later, than feel unfulfilled with being thrown a tiny bone and never having will’s queerness be important again.

look, i’m not saying it’s byler endgame. i’m not even saying i think any of this will be done well. but i think looking outside of the show for confirmation, banking on instant gratification, and treating the season like it’s stand alone content or the end all be all instead of a puzzle piece of the entire series and a lead up to the big finale.. is short sighted. it’s short sighted and does a disservice to all of the content we’ve previously had. i’m not saying you can’t dislike the season, everyone also had SO much anger towards season three when it came out, and now look how important those scenes are in context to byler.

give the characters a chance to become fully realized in the last season. they’re teenagers in the 80’s, their emotional intelligence is probably not their best asset. give will a chance to work through his fear and internalized homophobia. give mike a chance to work through his inadequacy and need to feel important (and also his feelings towards his girlfriend and best friend and why those feel so different to him). give el a chance to really, fully understand that she does not need to be romantically loved by mike wheeler to be strong, that she already is and she has so many people who love her in other ways.

please can we give these characters a chance to reach their full story arcs, because the whole series is their arc—not one season. can we let the show speak for itself? i love interviews and watching the official accounts talk about everything, but none of that can be considered canon to the show because it’s not the show. and can we all do what we do best: look to the future and analyze what we have. we have new knowledge now, but taking every scene at face value seems like it’ll only be doing a disservice to all of us. and if the show absolutely ruins all of these plot lines and characters at the end of the series? then we continue to make fan content and make it our own!

it’s okay to dislike it and be disappointed. but i think we should at least look at the finished painting before ripping it up and throwing it out the window, or claiming malicious intent with the way it’s being presented. slow burns exist and i really want to see where this one goes. the show is supposed to be a drama, so i fully expect characters that i love to be unhappy—yes, even the queer characters. the straight characters aren’t happy right now either, it would be weird for will to be just because he’s queer? his sexuality isn’t all that he is, it’s a big part of him, of course, but i don’t think he should be magically happy just to give us all momentarily gratification because that wouldn’t do anything for his character.

i honestly think the best course of action is for us all to let the show run its course and tell its story, let the actors give outstanding performances, and let the characters fully develop across the entire series. i think we will all be a lot happier if we analyze it for what it is and what it still can be, not what we had built it up as. keep making theories and fan content, but use the text—not outside sources, because marketing is made to get more numbers not to tell the story. the show itself might be a creative piece of media and a piece of art, but promotion and marketing is still a tool of capitalism. it’s there to bring in money, not to give you canon information. and if you do choose to buy into it, take it more from the actors than the official accounts—but remember that the actors are told what to say and how vague to be, that’s how PR and press works. it is their job. just because something they said would happen didn’t in s4 doesn’t mean it won’t in s5, it just means they used the talking points they were probably told to. and that’s not a bad thing or malicious, again, this is their job. take all outside sources with a grain of salt.

tl;dr: s4 doesn’t feel like queerbaiting to me, unless you’re counting sources outside of the canon show—which you probably shouldn’t do that for any media. that doesn’t mean people aren’t valid for feeling that way, i just think the way we consume media (or i guess the way media is pushed onto us) lends us to look for more outside the canon text, miss the big picture for the smaller points, crave instant gratification over seasons of build up, and expect certain elements in storytelling that make us feel like anything else is “bad writing” when it’s probably just different. i don’t necessarily think we will get canon byler, but i do think we will get better exploration of will and mike (and el) in season five, that will feel far more fulfilling than if it would’ve been tossed quickly into this season. the build up we are getting seems to be overlooked due to the collective hubris of us all expecting a happy narrative in the second-to-final season of a supernatural drama with dark themes. it’s obviously okay to not like the season, but i think we will all get more out of show analysis, positive community, and breaking down the text than we will being mad that sources outside of the actual content weren’t completely true.

Very much new to tumblr, so I'm not entirely sure how all this works yet. I don't exactly know how to respond to reblogs yet so bear with me. First off, your ramblings are totally fine, don't have a problem with it at all. The reason I'm responding to you is to explain my perspective on the game and how it was handled. This mostly concerns you calling the devs lazy. (Note: I don't fault you for thinking this, nor am I upset about it. Sorry if this ends up being a super long reply lol)

I'm not going to go deep into the details of my life and who I am, but I think it's important to know that I've been taking game development classes for about 2 years now. I'm not an employee of GameFreak, or the Pokemon company, so I can't give any definitive answers on why the game came out the way it did, but I am almost certain that it isn't because the people involved were being lazy.

I'm not exactly sure how to best explain this, but from my experience with the game, it seemed like the team behind it genuinely cared about the project. The art direction completely shifted, pokemon are much more detailed now, there is an overabundance of things to see and do, and the core game is actually really fun. Character designs are great, the writing is well done, and there are so many creative ideas at play here.

Now if that is the case, why is it such a mess from a technical perspective? There is the chance that their game engine needs an update, and there is also the fact that this is their first fully open world game, but I don't think either of those are the main culprit. The two potential reasons why I think the game ended up the way it did is either a lack of time, or a lack of money.

First off, let me explain my reasoning for time. Breath of the Wild was the first Zelda game to attempt an open world. It's development started not to long after the release of Skyward Sword in 2011 with a planned release date in 2015, but got delayed to 2017. This left that team with a development time of 6 years. The dev time for Scarlet and Violet was presumably 3 years, with SwSh dlc, and Legends Arceus being developed at the same time. When you are making an open world game that has a strict deadline, some corners are definitely going to have to be cut. This deadline is set by the Pokemon Company to keep sales up while pumping out more merchandise.

My second thought is that there is not enough money going around. Before anyone says that Pokemon is the largest franchise in the world, yes I am aware, however, Gamefreak doesn't get to decide how much these games are funded; the Pokemon Company does, and they also have to balance out things like the mobile games, merchandise, the card game, the anime etc. Gamefreak only gets a small small portion of that cut. Because of this, they can't just quadruple their team size just to pump out higher quality games quicker, because The Pokemon Company wants to turn a profit.

As unfortunate as it is, this stuff isn't completely in the hands of GameFreak, and as such they don't really have much control over it. This is mostly speculation on my part, but it is a fairly educated guess. Sorry for the long winded post, but I think that the devs get treated quite unfairly by fans who think that they are the sole reason that the games won't improve in quality.

I hope my own rambling at least gave you some insight on game development, and it's many challenges and I hope this helped you understand my point of view on the subject a little bit better!

I think that the points you make are completely true! Game Freak mightve cared a lot for the game but due to factors out of their control the product ended...like that. It's honestly such a shame as someone who was a huge pokemon fan since they were 8, seeing the series suffer due to capitalism has been incredibly disheartening.
