Now or Never***
Hunter X F!Reader
word count: 2.5k
Tumblr media
When Hunter spontaneously kisses you before he goes camping with the others whilst you look after the ship, your mind is set aflame. Both of you think about it and it's either now or never to see if there is a spark there.
warnings: warnings: Not exactly NSFW but is very steamy so 17+ only please. Spontaneous and accidental kiss, making out, brief breast touching, touchy touchy, non established relationship, female reader, mutual pining, friends to lovers, first kiss, one curse word.
authors note: a request for my lovely friend 🤍
Tumblr media
"Have you made sure you've packed your canteen, sleeping bag, and comm device?" You stood observing Omega meticulously arranging her belongings in preparation for a camping excursion with her brothers, ensuring she's equipped for the night ahead.
The idea was originally proposed by Wrecker, who eagerly suggested taking Omega on a camping adventure in the wilderness, a proposition unanimously agreed upon by the others—except for you. Camping wasn't exactly your preferred activity.
"Yes, yes, and yes again," Omega confirms, playfully rolling her eyes before turning to you with a smile. "You're worse than Hunter AND Crosshair combined."
You chuckle and kneel down to Omega's level. "I'm not that bad," you tease, tousling her hair affectionately before rising to your feet. "But do be cautious, alright? Don't go picking berries unless you're certain about them."
"I'm not about to repeat Wrecker's mistake," Omega giggles, both of you sharing a fond recollection of the time his hunger led him to inadvertently consume toxic berries, resulting in a nasty rash.
"Are you absolutely certain you can't be persuaded to join us?" Hunter speaks and as you turn to him, you watch as he adjusts his backpack in readiness for the night ahead.
"I'll be fine. Besides, someone needs to stay behind to look after Gonky and the ship," you reply, giving the droid a reassuring pat as it waddles past. "I'll also tidy up around here. I wanna make sure it's neat and tidy for when you return."
A warm smile spreads across Hunter's face as he looks at you, a gesture that has become increasingly frequent lately. "Well, if you insist. Feel free to contact me if you require assistance."
'Me'? Not 'us'?’ you silently ponder, feeling a slight warmth tint your cheeks. "And the same goes for you. Stay safe out there and don't wander off."
"Can we get going before we lose light?" Crosshair interjects with a snarl, positioning himself between you and Hunter with an almost knowing look, as if he's aware of your burgeoning feelings for a particular Sergeant.
Hunter clears his throat, shooting a warning glare at his brother, who momentarily smirks before disembarking the ship, followed by the others. However, Hunter lingers back for a moment, his gaze lingering on you. "Are you sure you're going to be okay?"
"Why the sudden protectiveness?" You raise a brow, accompanied by a smirk, though you can't help but feel a flutter of anticipation in your chest.
"Just making sure," he reassures, offering another soft smile. "The others seem excited. It's been a while since we've done something like this."
Your heart swells at the sight of him finding peace, even if just for a moment. No empire, no war—just rest. "Well, stop lingering and get going before you lose the others," you prompt, playfully nudging his side with your arm, your touch lingering for just a moment longer than necessary.
"Alright, alright. I'll see you tomorrow," he responds, but as he turns to leave, a brief moment of unexpected stillness descends. Without warning, Hunter reaches out and holds your waist, pulling you gently toward him, and kisses you.
You don’t even have time to react because he pulls back abruptly, eyes wide with shock, and you find yourself mirroring his astonishment.
He quickly releases you, running a clammy hand over the back of his neck. "I... I don't know why I did that."
"O-okay," you breathe shakily, trying to steady your racing heart as you nervously fiddle with your fingers, your mind reeling from the unexpected intimacy.
"Sorry, I..." he trails off, meeting your gaze once more, his expression a mix of anxiousness and apology.
You gaze back at him, feeling the rapid rhythm of your heart almost deafening in the silence between you. "No, it's okay," you manage to exhale shakily, taking a small step back, needing the space to collect your thoughts. "Y-you should really get going."
He nods in understanding, but you can't shake the feeling of uncertainty clouding his expression. Better yet, you’re certain he takes a longing gaze at your lips before snapping out of his trance. "Yeah. Alright. Are… Stars, are we okay?” He asks, a little exasperated. “I hope I didn't make you uncomfortable."
"Go, Hunter," you say just above a whisper, a mixture of confusion and longing tugging at your emotions. "I'll still be here when you get back." Your smile feels forced, genuine bewilderment at how to navigate the spiral of emotions inside you. It all feels like a dream, yet you're not entirely sure if you want to wake up. Or perhaps you do?
Hunter gives you one last lingering look before he turns and leaves, leaving you alone with your tangled thoughts.
Watching him go, you can't help but dread the inevitable awkwardness that awaits you in the morning.
Tumblr media
Hours had slipped by since the departure of the others, and you had kept yourself occupied as best as possible, channeling your energy into cleaning the Marauder. Discarded bolts, half-eaten ration bars, and an array of dust and weapon gear cluttered the interior, making it a challenge to find even a patch of floor. Wiping your brow, you stand back to admire your handiwork, but now what?
"What do you think, Gonky? Nice and clean?"
GONK.
"Yeah, I know," you sigh, sinking into the pilot's seat and propping your legs up on the control dash as you gaze out at the night sky. But try as you might to divert your thoughts, they stubbornly refuse to stray far from the unexpected encounter with Hunter.
There's a lingering tingle on your lips, prompting you to idly lick them as you recall the sensation of his kiss. Your stomach flutters, and you run a hand through your hair in frustration. "It's just a crush... just a crush."
At least, that's what it had started as. Sure, you had found Hunter attractive from the moment you joined the team, but it had been nothing more than a passing admiration. Yet, as the months passed and you grew closer to him, undeniable feelings—on your part, at least—had begun to emerge.
So, the question lingered: why had he kissed you? Was it merely a spontaneous impulse, or was there something more to it? Of course, you couldn't help but hope for the latter, but his immediate apology had left you questioning his intentions.
Suddenly, a rhythmic beeping emanates from one sector of the control panel, jolting you into alertness. You sit forward, inspecting the display, and your blood turns cold as you spot a heat signature approaching. Rising to your feet, you arm yourself and position yourself at the gangplank, ready for whatever may come, your heart pounding with apprehension.
But your fears begin to dissipate as you discern the familiar colors of clone armor in the distance. "Hunter? What are you doing back? Are the others alright?" you call out, relief flooding your voice as you watch him approach.
"Everything's alright, don't worry," Hunter reassures you, his chuckle softening the panic in your voice, though it leaves you feeling more puzzled than reassured.
"What are you doing back then?" you inquire, your stomach fluttering once more as he takes a step closer.
"I came to see you," he says softly, his gaze meeting yours with a sincerity that sends a shiver down your spine. "I couldn't stop thinking about you. It was driving me mad."
You swallow hard, feeling the nervous flutter in your stomach as your hands instinctively tuck behind your back. "Oh, Hunter, I told you I'd be fine," you manage to say, though your voice betrays a hint of uncertainty.
"I'm not referring to that," he replies quickly, closing the distance between you with each deliberate step. Your heart races, anticipation and apprehension mingling in equal measure as you realise the true reason for his return. "Your heart's beating so fast for me," he murmurs, his voice a quiet rasp that sends a shiver down your spine.
With each step bringing him closer, the tension between you becomes palpable, and you can feel the electricity crackling in the air.
"Hunter..." you begin, taking a step back to welcome him onto the ship, but your voice trails off as he enters and seals the door to the Marauder shut behind him with a button on his wrist.
"Did you mean to kiss me?" you finally manage to ask, your heart pounding in anticipation.
"No," he admits, his gaze unwavering, but a flicker of excitement dances in your chest as he continues, "but I can't deny that I haven't thought about doing it. Many times."
You're too stunned to respond, the weight of his words leaving you speechless, and you can only watch in disbelief as he closes the distance between you. His hand reaches up, gently tucking a loose strand of hair behind your ear, sending a shiver down your spine.
"Tell me... if I hadn't pulled away, would you have kissed me back?" he whispers, his voice barely audible but filled with a raw vulnerability that leaves you breathless.
You stare into his eyes, all your uncertainties melting away in the intensity of the moment. Unable to resist any longer, you lean in and press a gentle, swift kiss to his lips, pulling back with a coy smile. "Does that answer your question?"
Hunter's chest rises and falls with a mixture of surprise and longing at your kiss, his hands finding a comfortable place on your hips. "Maybe," he teases in response, a playful glint in his eyes. "I think I need to just..." he leans in closer, his lips barely brushing against yours before trailing agonisingly slowly across your cheek and up to your ear.
"Hunter," you gasp silently, your eyes fluttering closed as his lips brush over your earlobe, sending a shiver down your spine.
"Yes?" he asks innocently, his warm breath causing goosebumps to rise on your skin as it fans over you, sending a rush of heat coursing through your veins.
"It's now or never," you whisper breathlessly, your voice barely above a murmur. "Kiss me... kiss me properly."
With a surge of desire, his lips leave your ear and find yours, his hand cupping your jaw as you both surrender to the heated passion between you. Your back presses against the wall of the ship as you eagerly reciprocate, your fingers tangling in his hair with a firm grip as you lose yourself in the intoxicating sensation of each other's touch.
Gone are the smiles and lingering glances, replaced by the urgency of the moment that ignites a fiery passion between you. Both of you are breathless, yet neither of you wants to break away. The kiss is messy, with teeth occasionally clanging together, but it only adds to the raw intensity of the moment.
In a bold move, he lifts your leg and hooks it around his waist, drawing you closer until his body is pressed against yours. Your hands roam over his armor, desperate to remove every barrier between you.
He obliges, a small smirk playing on his lips as he swiftly removes his armor, his lips only briefly parting from yours before he's swallowing your moans once more. "I can't stop kissing you," he grunts, his breathing heavy and intoxicating, sending shivers down your spine.
"Good thing I haven't told you to stop," you growl against his lips, earning a deep groan in response before he deftly maneuvers you onto the floor, crawling over you and enveloping you in his arms.
His tongue dances along your lower lip, seeking entrance that you're willing to grant, but you can't resist the urge to tease him, to show him what he's been missing for so long. Ignoring his plea, you gently bite down on his lip, eliciting a gasp of surprise from him, and seizing the opportunity, you take the lead.
He meets your passion with equal fervor, his tongue tangling with yours in a heated dance. Both of you are panting, and you're grateful that you had cleaned the floor beforehand. "Fuck, you're perfect," he murmurs between kisses, his words sending a rush of warmth to your core.
Lips locked, one of his hands slips under your shirt, sending a tingling sensation racing along your skin as his fingers trail along your stomach and up the side of your ribs. Your breath catches in your throat as he continues his exploration, his touch gentle yet electric, until he ever so softly caresses your breast.
A soft gasp escapes your lips at the intimate contact, your body arching instinctively toward his touch as desire courses through you. With each delicate caress, the heat between you intensifies, and you find yourself completely lost in the sensation of his touch.
"More... please," you gasp into his mouth, your body ablaze with desire. He listens to your plea, his hand reluctantly leaving your breast before sliding back down your body. His fingers dance along your skin, teasing along the hem of your waistband, igniting a primal need within you.
Naturally, arousal courses through you, transforming this fleeting moment of passion into something deeper. "I've dreamt about touching you down here," he whispers against your lips, swollen and flushed with desire.
He's on the verge of breaking the barrier, your body eagerly anticipating his touch, when the shrill noise of his comm device, scattered on the floor next to your head, shatters the moment.
He looks at you, then at his comm, and back to you with an apologetic smile. "It's best I get that. Just in case."
You nod in understanding, suddenly feeling shy and bashful. But he doesn't move from above you, instead swiping up his comm and answering the call. "What's the problem?"
"We're heading back. Crosshair ate some of those berries that gave Wrecker a rash last time," Echo's voice echoes loudly in the cabin, interrupting the intimate moment.
"Fantastic. We'll see you soon," Hunter replies, cutting off the call with a sigh of frustration.
Despite the interruption, you can't help but stifle a laugh at the absurdity of the situation. "Hey," you say softly, reaching up to cup his cheek, "we could do this another time... if you'd like that?"
He chuckles, meeting your gaze with a mixture of longing and gratitude. "I want nothing more than that," he admits, sealing the moment with the gentlest kiss on your lips. "I, uh, I liked this. A lot."
As he helps you sit up, Hunter's movements are gentle yet purposeful, his attention focused on reassembling his gear. Meanwhile, you take a moment to smooth out your hair and adjust your clothing before standing up.
"Hunter?"
Turning to face you, Hunter's gaze is warm yet curious. "Yeah?" he responds, his brow furrowing slightly in anticipation of your next words.
"Thank you," you say softly, sincerity lacing every syllable.
His confusion deepens, prompting him to take a step closer to you, his hand finding its way to your waist as he draws you near. "What for?" he inquires, his eyes searching yours for answers.
Your heart swells at his proximity, and you meet his gaze with a mixture of affection and appreciation.
"For feeling the same way I do."
There were many, many sneaky kisses from then on.

The Bad Batch (3)
Chapter Three: Replacements
Tumblr media
GIF by @kamino-coruscant
Hunter x femaleJedi!reader
Series Summary: You joined the Batch 8 months ago and everything was going well. But then, Order 66 happened and the galaxy around you changed. Now, not only do you need to be careful given your new 'social status', but you also need to navigate your feelings towards a certain Sergeant.
Chapter Summary: You and Hunter finally talk things over but amidst all that, the ship crashes and you need to find your way off a desolate moon.
<Previous Chapter
Genre: Friends (idiots) to Lovers
Chapter Warnings: Use of (Y/N) (but I've limited it as much as I could), swearing, the Force works how I say it does, mild innuendo, brief injury mention, light angst, Hunter defence (a theme that will run throughout now).
Word Count (Ch 3): 7.6K
Rating: 18+
Author's notes: Okay so things are finally being talked out lol but despite the honesty mention, both of them continue to lie about their feelings but I allow that because they're both doing it and they're dumb haha. Also I'm sorry for not including Crosshair's section of the episode. It was a tough decision not to but I think with what my focus for this chapter was, it had to be done. Also a big thank you for the support this story as received to far! It means a lot!

You sat down on the bunk you had once shared with Hunter; you weren’t really sure if that would still stand anymore, you didn’t really expect it to and finished tying off the bandage around your arm. You also quickly applied a light touch of bacta on your cheek and your eyes followed Hunter as he walked over to where Omega was sitting restlessly on the floor, examining a datapad as she leaned against Gonky who was also on his side.
Hunter walked up to Omega with the ration box. “Well, that doesn’t look comfortable, for either of you.”
“We’re fine.” Omega said lightly.
“Here. Chow time.” Hunter said, handing Omega a ration bar as she stood up.
“Ah! Finally!”
Hunter looked up to see Wrecker jumping down the stairs that led to the gun turret. He handed his eager brother a bar only to see him consume it at record pace.
“Hit me again.” Wrecker demanded keenly.
“Well, that’s all for now.” Hunter said, closing the box. “Rations are low.”
Wrecker groaned.
Omega looked down at her portion then back to Wrecker. “You can have mine.” She offered.
Before he reached out to grab it, Hunter pushed Wrecker back a few steps. “Hey, Omega doesn’t even have a place to sleep. You wanna take her food too?”
Wrecker glanced past Hunter. Now he felt bad. “Oh. Uh… no, no thanks. You keep it.”
“Okay.” Omega said casually before sitting back down against the droid.
Wrecker let out another groan. “I guess I’m not used to having a kid around here.”
“Well, none of us are, but she’s not complaining.” Hunter pointed out.
--
You let out a soft sigh as you witnessed the scene just past you before turning away to start packing up the medical kit. You made sure to put everything back where it was, or you knew you’d never hear the end of it from Tech. You’d made the mistake once of just chucking things in in any old order which had not gone down well with the clone, and you’d spent the next 20 minutes getting lectured on the importance of the organisation of the medical supplies.
“The bandages go in the top right compartment.”
You looked up quickly to see Hunter standing opposite you. “Oh, um thanks.” You replied, knowing you were not successful in hiding your surprised tone.
“You didn’t get your portion.” Hunter said, holding the box out to you.
“Thank you.” You replied, taking the ration bar out and nibbling the top of it before putting your attention back on the med kit. You figured that’s all he’d come up to you for and you didn’t want to make him stay any longer than he wanted to.
He knew you well enough to tell that your demeanour right now was for his own benefit and was based off his own action towards you. Come on Hunter, time to settle this, he thought to himself. “That, uh, happen leaving the lot?” Hunter asked, hoping he didn’t sound as awkward as he felt.
You looked back at him. “Yeah, but it barely touched me, and I heal fairly quickly. You know, Jedi and all that.” You cursed yourself internally for bringing up the one topic that held a high degree of sensitivity right now.
“Hmm that’s pretty handy.” Hunter said, giving you a small smile.
You let out a quiet laugh. “Yeah, it is.” After a few moments of silence, you spoke again. “Well, I uh, better put this back in its proper place or who knows what Tech’ll do to me.” You kidded half-heartedly before you sealed the med kit box and stood up, putting your top layer back on as you did so.
“Hey.” Hunter said softly, grabbing your free hand as you moved to pass him.
You glanced down at his hand then looked back at him. “Everything okay?”
“Can we talk?”
You wanted cry out with relief as he said those words but restrained yourself to a simple nod of your head.
Hunter led you towards the cockpit. “Tech, can you give us the space?”
“I’m working on this scanner.” Tech protested.
“You can work on it back there.” Echo said, standing up and dragging Tech out of his seat, giving you a small smile as he did so.
“Hey, Tech, put this back for me, would you please?” You asked, holding the med kit out to him.
Tech nodded and reached out to grab it. “Is everything-”
“Yes, everything is back in place.” You said, exasperated, but shooting him a smile, nonetheless.
“Okay, I only say that because last time-”
“Out!” Echo said, directing Tech away from you and back down the body of the ship.
--
Hunter let go of your hand- he hadn’t even realised he’d kept a hold of it- and went to sit in the pilot’s chair.
You squeezed your hand into a tight fist before relaxing it again as you did your best to ignore the usual feeling of emptiness that filled your hand whenever he let it go. You sat down in the co-pilot’s seat, turning it to face him. “This isn’t about Tech getting the ship impounded right cause-”
“No, it’s not.”
“Okay, good.” That was not the issue you were too worried about fixing. You waited patiently for him to talk first.
“I just… I need you to explain again. I shouldn’t have acted the way I did but-”
“No, you were perfectly entitled to do that. I know I messed up.” You said quietly.
Hunter took a breath before speaking again. “So, why did you hide this?”
You heaved a sigh and ran a hand through your hair. “In the beginning, I was being nothing but selfish. I wish I had a real reason, but I don’t. I’d spent years supressing that part of myself after I left. I didn’t get involved with anything that might threaten that until you all showed up. I lost myself for a while and forgot what I’d been taught. I don’t know what was different about you guys, but something told me I had to help you. I thought it would be a one-time thing but then you offered me a place here and I found myself saying yes and it’s like I said, as time went on, I grew to care for yo- all of you, you know you guys were the closest thing to friends I’d had for a while.” You caught yourself quickly.
Hunter pushed away the upset he felt as he heard that word.
“And I thought by telling you what I really was, things would change, or you’d send me back but, as with any secret, the longer it went the more uncomfortable I felt and the harder it got to keep, and I knew it wasn’t fair to keep lying. Especially to you.” You added quietly, looking down at your hands in your lap. “If you can, and I understand if you can’t, believe it when I say that I really did plan to tell you after Kaller but with Order 66 and Crosshair and Tarkin, I couldn’t. I don’t want to ask this of you but please trust me on this. All the odd behaviour, the deflections and the whole not telling you was purely because I wanted to protect you but I’m so sorry. I shouldn’t have lied at all. I’m just- I’m just really sorry.” You finished and looked back at him.
“It just felt like you didn’t trust me or the rest of us. We don’t hide things from each other, not when they’re that important.”
“I know.” You said sorrowfully. “I regret it and I’ll keep regretting it for the rest of my life.”
“Do you regret it because you got caught out?”
“No!” You replied, horrified that that was something he was thinking but then again you could see how it may look that way. “I regret it because I hurt you and the others. I hurt my team and I hurt my friends. Hell, I hurt my family. I’ll never forgive myself for that.”
Hunter sighed. He knew you felt awful about this and that you wouldn’t do something like this again. He didn’t like this anymore than you did and if the others could forgive you, then he could too. “You’ve not lied about anything else?”
You shook your head. “No. If you have any other questions, I’d be happy to answer them too. I’m done hiding from my past.”
“Then we’re good.”
“Really?”
“Really.” Hunter replied.
You couldn’t stop yourself; you lunged forward and hugged him. “Thank you.” You whispered.
Hunter was glad your head was over his shoulder because that meant you wouldn’t be able to see the combination of happiness and shock on his face at your actions. He returned your embrace, breaking it very reluctantly after a few moments. “I do have some questions though.”
You removed yourself from him, you couldn’t believe you’d just done that, and went back to your seat. “Go ahead.”
“Is it because you were a Jedi that you’ve always refused to use a blaster?” He wanted to give you a more light-hearted question since the one he really wanted to ask might be a bit much to launch into straight away.
You snorted. “Yeah. They’re just not very elegant. I did try them out for a while but at the end of the day, I prefer the feeling of a sword in my hand. Anything else?”
Alright, moment of truth. “Yeah, but this one you don’t have to answer if you don’t want to.”
“No, I meant what I said. I’ll answer whatever you want to ask.”
“Okay.” Hunter waited a moment before speaking again, he knew this would be a hard question for you to answer. “Why did you leave?”
You huffed out a sigh. Oh boy. “That’s a longer story.”
--
Meanwhile, further down the ship, Echo, Wrecker and Omega watched the interaction with relief.
“Do we think that’s them told each other now?” Wrecker asked.
“No, we’re not that lucky.” Echo replied. “I reckon they’ve just fixed the whole Jedi issue.”
“Told each other what?” Omega asked, looking away from the two of you to focus on Echo.
“They share a mutual attraction that neither party want to acknowledge or divulge to the other.” Tech answered, his attention never leaving his scanner.
“Huh?” Omega asked.
“Basically, they both have feelings of the romantic type for one another and despite our best efforts, they still deny it to us, and they won’t tell each other.” Echo explained.
“No matter how hard we try to get them to admit it.” Wrecker grumbled.
“Oohh.” Omega replied, turning back to look at you both. “We should do something.”
“Believe me kid, we’ve thought of everything. It’s gotta come from them at this point.” Echo said with a sigh. He just hoped it would be sooner rather than later.
--
“So yeah, that’s why I left. I couldn’t forget the way they’d treated her which led to a crisis of faith, so I left my lightsaber in my room and left the temple in the dead of night. I had thought about seeking her out, but she had her new path to follow and now I had mine, so I took the first shuttle off world. That began my life of planet hopping. I didn’t really fit in there to begin with to be honest. Too emotional with a tendency to talk back and sway from standard rules if you can believe it.” You said, shooting him a playful smile.
“Oh, I can.” Hunter agreed with a quiet chuckle. “That also explains why you disliked Tarkin so much.”
“Yeah.” You agreed with a laugh of your own. “I was really surprised that he didn’t recognise me.” You looked out into the blue hyperspace swirls.
“Well, I’m very grateful he didn’t.” Hunter said quietly.
You turned to face Hunter with a smile. “Me too.”
Hunter cleared his throat. “So… uh on Kaller. There was something else I wanted to mention. You and the padawan looked like-”
“We were having a conversation?” You completed for him.
“Yeah.”
“Well, that’s cause I kinda was.”
“But I didn’t hear anything?”
“It’s hard to explain but I basically reached into his Force Signature which allowed me to communicate with him without talking out loud and he was able to do the same to me. With Jedi, it’s pretty simple since everyone’s signature is pretty strong but emotional connection can make it even easier. It can be done with normal civilians too, like with Gerrera, though obviously it’s one-sided and it’s harder, emotional connection really helps out there.”
Hunter paused before he spoke again. “So, you and Saw Gerrera… emotionally connected at some point in your past?” He asked, hoping you couldn’t pick up on the hint of jealously he was feeling at that prospect.
“What? Gosh no!” You replied quickly, you would not let yourself analyse the slight change in his tone and what that could possibly mean. You wouldn’t ruin this rather important conversation with all that nonsense. “That was basically just luck. I wasn’t even sure it would work, let alone work that quickly. I helped him out when I was still with the Order, but no emotional connecting was done. Under normal circumstances, it would’ve taken me a lot longer to do that.” You hesitated for a moment before speaking again. “Can I show you how emotional connection actually helps?” You asked, moving to sit on your knees in front of him.
“What do you mean?” Hunter asked, refusing to let his mind wander to what else your current position meant to him.
You took his hands in yours. “Just quiet your mind as much as you can for me, please?” You also made sure to take that advice for yourself, the suggestions of your present position were not lost on you but thinking about that would be very counter-productive right now.
After a brief moment to steady your thoughts, you closed your eyes and reached out.
What met you didn’t really surprise you. Hunter’s Force Signature was a lot like him, a little rough along the edges but warm at the same time.
When you sensed that you had achieved a successful connection, you opened your eyes and looked at him as you spoke to him without uttering a single word. Hi there, Sergeant. You giggled as his eyes widened. I know, it’s a bit weird, especially since you can’t do the same thing back so this’ll be the only time, I’ll do it but yeah, apart from Gererra being the exception, if I wanted to do this with anyone else, it would take a long time.
“What about the others?” Hunter asked, his gaze focused intensely on you.
I could probably do it, but I know it’s a faster process with you.
“How?”
You did not want to properly get into that, you still didn’t think your feelings were reciprocated so you did the next best thing. You instead played back the first conversation you had with him back on Devaron. You’re the one I connected to first, it’s just natural it would be this way. You provided as an explanation rather than admit anything else.
Hunter couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed by it all, it wasn’t a bad feeling necessarily, but it only served to strengthen the feelings he had for you. All this proved was that you really were incredible, and he couldn’t imagine a time when you weren’t a part of his life but then he remembered what you said. You were his friend, nothing more, no matter how much he wished for that.
You felt his distress and assumed his enhanced senses weren’t too fond of what you were doing so you withdrew. “Sorry. I should’ve thought about your particular gift before doing that.” You said aloud.
“No, it’s not that.” Hunter said. “You can do that whenever; it doesn’t bother me.”
“What is it then?” You said softly, looking at him.
“It’s just… nothing, forget about it.” Hunter said, looking away from you. He couldn’t do this now, not like this.
“Hunter.” You murmured, placing a hand on his cheek so he had to face you. You lightly traced the outline of his tattoo with your fingertips.
Hunter closed his eyes and his breath shuddered slightly at the feeling of your hand on his face. To anyone else, this action would register as nothing more than a feather-light touch but to him it felt like so much more. He opened his eyes again to look at you. “You’re just pretty amazing.” Hunter breathed out, finding himself leaning down towards you.
You met his gaze, and you felt yourself moving up to meet him halfway.
Just as your lips were about to meet, the lights flickered and cut out, providing the most annoying but probably necessary interruption the two of you needed. You coughed and shuffled back on your knees awkwardly. You put that particular moment down to the whole speaking into his head thing. Anyone wouldn’t really think straight after that.
Hunter stifled his frustrated sigh and stood up out of the pilot’s seat, noticing the way everyone in the back of the ship had quickly turned their heads away and were now staring at random parts of the ship. Well, I should’ve known that would be the case, he thought to himself before addressing Echo. “Echo, the lights cut out again. I thought you fixed it.” He offered his hand to you to get you up and was pleased to see that despite what just happened you still took it.
“Yeah, add it to the list.” Echo replied grumpily, moving back to the cockpit with Tech, munching on his ration bar.
You and Hunter both moved out the way of Echo and Tech so they could sit back down.
“The ship got hit hard when we fled Saleucami. Several systems have been glitching ever since.” Echo explained. “Repairs would go faster if I had some help.” He said pointedly, shooting Tech a look.
“As soon as I finish building this scanner.” Tech said, soldering some parts of the device. “Testing the functionality of out inhibitor chips takes precedence.”
“But I thought you said they were defective?” You asked.
“A theory this test will be able to prove.” Tech said confidently.
“Huh, okay.” You said simply with a shrug of your shoulders, and you turned around to follow Hunter back down the ship.
“Besides, the ship-wide diagnostic report indicated no critical systems were compromised.” Tech informed.
Just as he said that the ship jolted violently and came crashing out of hyperspace.
The alarm started ringing and the red lights began to flash.
You lost your balance, and you suddenly felt the tight press of a body against yours.
In the slight commotion, it would seem that you had fallen into the wall, your back pressed against it while Hunter had ended up with his body pushed up against yours, his hands on either side of your head, his eyes looking directly into yours.
You blinked a few times to fully process what just happened and bring yourself back to the present moment of the ship hurtling towards a moon.
Hunter rather awkwardly pushed himself off the wall and away from you, trying and failing to forget the feeling of your body against his in that manner. He’d only ever felt it like that when the two of you had been asleep together but in the more recent times, those occasions had grown rarer, and they seemed a lot more innocent than whatever just happened there, even if it was purely accidental.
He quickly walked into the cockpit, and he heard you close behind him. “Getting thrown out of hyperspace. I’d say that’s pretty critical, Tech.”
“It’s not affecting life support.” Tech replied calmly, fiddling with some controls. “We’re fine.”
“Are you kidding me?” Hunter replied, exasperated.
“I don’t think life support will matter too much if we crash and burn.” You added, adjusting your footing slightly as another rumble ran through the ship.
“The power capacitor’s blown. We need to land immediately.” Echo said.
Omega was still back in the main body of the ship with Wrecker, trying to maintain her balance.
“Get ready for your first crash landing.” Wrecker said, lifting one of the over-the-shoulder restraints.
“Crash?” Omega said anxiously.
“Omega, strap in.” Hunter said, darting back down towards the young girl. “You too.” He directed, looking back towards you.
“Are you?” You asked, crossing your arms, and looking at him questioningly.
“No but that’s not the point. You-”
“No, I’m fine thanks. I’ll sit right here.” You sat in one the normal passenger seats, bracing your back against it to keep steady.
Hunter sighed and sat in the chair across from yours.
Omega quickly sat in on of the seats with the over- the- shoulder restraints and Wrecker lowered one down for her before going into one himself although the restraint proved to be a bit small for his larger frame.
“I can’t see anything.” Echo groaned, straining his eyes to try and see through the fog that filled the moon’s atmosphere.
“Hold on!” Hunter called back towards Omega and Wrecker.
Omega grunted with the impact on her shoulders as the ship continued to be unsteady. She lifted her feet when Gonky slid down the hallway.
Wrecker wasn’t having the best time of it either. A particularly strong heave of the ship had the side of his head being smacked off the one of the metal hand bars of the restraints.
The alarm blaring grew louder and more insistent, but you saw the fog had cleared which allowed Tech to level out the ship as best he could before it crashed to the ground. You held on to the sides of your seat to stop yourself from falling out of it as your body lurched with the impact.
Once the ship had come to a complete stop, you stood up and helped the Gonk droid to his feet. You looked over at Hunter when he stood up. “You good?”
Hunter nodded before addressing the back of the ship. “Everybody alright?”
You glanced down to where Omega and Wrecker were. She seemed a little bit dazed but otherwise okay. Wrecker was the one who looked the most affected out of all of you. He was taking breaths in short, sharp pants. You only hoped you had the parts needed to fix the ship and get off this place.
--
“The storm’s getting worse. It’s knocking out our comms.” You said irritably as you stared at the controls.
“I suspect one of our capacitors sustained damage during our firefight with the regs. We won’t be able to take off without replacing it. Inventory analysis indicates we have one spare onboard.” Tech explained to the group, looking up from his datapad.
“Is it in here?” Omega asked, grunting as she dragged a box out and placed it on the ground.
A hush descended in the ship as you turned your seat to see what Omega was talking about and why everyone had gone so quiet. Oh, that was why, you thought gloomily.
“What?” Omega asked, wondering why everyone was suddenly staring at her.
“That’s Crosshair’s weapon kit.” Hunter said, the guilt and painful reminder of all that went down on Kamino coming back to haunt him.
Wrecker groaned. “Fine. I’ll say it. I kinda miss him.”
“He shot you, remember?” Echo reminded him.
“Ha! I sure do. That hurt!” Wrecker said with a laugh.
“It’s worth noting that the possibility that Crosshair’s actions were influenced by the inhibitor chip.” Tech said to Hunter.
“It can do that?” You asked, getting out of your seat, directing your question towards Omega.
“That’s what it was designed to do.” Omega confirmed.
“So, it wasn’t Crosshair’s fault?” Wrecker asked.
“Well-” Tech began.
“Look, debating this won’t fix the ship.” Hunter interrupted. He almost didn’t want to know the answer. The slightest chance that Crosshair had done what he did willingly was the only thing keeping his inner turmoil at bay and now there was a chance he wasn’t in complete control of himself? And they’d left him behind? That was something he wouldn’t be able to get past easily. “Right now, we need to find that capacitor and get off this rock.” He said before walking away.
You followed him to the cockpit. “It’s not your fault you know.”
“I’d love to hear how it isn’t.” He replied dejectedly, hanging his head as he held on to the back of the pilot’s chair.
You sighed deeply. “You made a judgement call. Even if he wasn’t of sound mind, we were still under fire.”
“Exactly, there’s now a chance he didn’t really know what he was doing, and I left him behind. I can’t-”
“Even if he wasn’t himself, we were taking fire, Hunter. And it wasn’t just from Crosshair. We would’ve died if we didn’t get out when we did. If Crosshair isn’t in control of his own mind, then we’ll get him back. I know you; when the moment is right, you won’t leave him behind.” You said, laying a hand on his shoulder, turning him to face you but he still refused to look at you. “Hey, look at me.” You put your hand on his cheek, angling his face towards you. “You’re a good sergeant. Those guys back there would follow you through anything, as would I.”
Hunter gave a half-hearted smile. He only hoped your image was him proved to be accurate because despite your words, that element of doubt still resided within him. “Thanks. Go help Echo and Tech with the repairs, would you?”
“Yeah, no problem.” You complied. You caressed your thumb across his cheekbone. “I mean it you, know. Until you want rid of me, I’m not going anywhere.” You said, removing your hand and you walked away from him, grabbing an oxygen mask as you went to join Tech and Echo outside.
May that day never come. Hunter thought as he watched you go, the feeling of your hand remaining on his cheek.
--
Tech lifted the panel and took out the damaged capacitor.
“Careful. Those capacitors hold a massive charge.” Echo warned as he stood on Tech’s right, holding his flashlight up to help Tech see what he was doing.
You joined on Tech’s left-hand side, shining your light too.
“I am well aware.” Tech responded, placing the new one in. “I just need to secure it.”
You turned your head slightly as you heard the sound of faint snarling and you felt goosebumps on your skin. “What was that?”
“I’m a little busy as the moment.” Tech replied.
You walked a few paces away from the others, shining your light ahead of you.
“Get back here.” Echo called after you.
You waved your hand behind you. “Shush. Keep your light with Tech.” You hissed back.
As you walked, you shone your torch to your left as you heard some rustling, but you couldn’t see anything. You kept walking forward, taking slow, quiet steps, fanning your flashlight right and left but you were coming up empty.
Pausing, you closed your eyes and reach out into the Force, trying to feel for any unusual or threatening signatures but you couldn’t sense anything. You let out a frustrated sigh and turned your light towards the ship and then something caught your eye. “Echo, Tech, look at this.” You called back to them.
Tech just finished securing the capacitor and he joined Echo to make their way towards you.
You shone your light back on the fresh, long, and jagged claw marks that now decorated the ship.
“Ah. Well, those weren’t there when we landed.” Tech observed.
No wonder you hadn’t sensed anything strongly. You’d never quite managed the whole force connecting to animals thing, it had been one of the things you’d still been practicing before you’d left but after you had gone, you’d ceased all training of that manner. You berated yourself for that now. You were so preoccupied with your own thoughts; you hadn’t noticed that Tech and Echo had made their way back to the ship entrance.
“You coming back in?” Echo asked, looking back at you.
“Give me a minute.”
Echo looked at Tech, who simply shrugged, and they both made their way back onto the ship.
You took a deep breath. “Come on, you can do this.” You whispered you yourself as you closed your eyes, and reached out again, really focusing in on the nature around you.
--
“The capacitor’s in place, but other systems are now failing.” Tech said, taking off his mask as he walked towards Hunter.
Echo removed his own mask before speaking to Hunter. “Something’s causing damage to the exterior hull.”
“You wanna narrow that down?” Hunter asked. “And where’s (Y/N)?”
“The capacitor is gone!” You shouted, quickly removing your own mask as you ran on board. You hadn’t seen it happen, but you had gotten a read on a signature that had gone very close to the panel where the capacitor was.
“I just placed it myself. It can’t be-” Tech stopped as the entire ship just powered down.
Each of your heads followed the faint sound of banging that moved across the top of the ship. “I told you.” You whispered. “Something’s taken it.”
Omega looked out the ship window to suddenly see an animal with luminous green charges flowing through its body, dart across it. “Look!”
“What is it?” You asked as you all ran towards the cockpit.
“Some kind of creature, about this big.” Omega said quickly, holding her arms wide apart. “With a long tail. It ran off with the part.”
Echo stepped forward and reactivated the control to get a view of the ship. “They’re right. The capacitor’s gone. And that was our last one.”
“Did you see this creature take it?” Wrecker asked, turning to look at you.
“No but I had a feeling.” You replied.
“A feeling?” Wrecker repeated, staring at you.
“A Jedi feeling, Wrecker. I didn’t know what though. I didn’t get very far with connecting to animals and it really doesn’t help when I have no idea what I should be connecting to.”
“The creature is most likely an Ordo Moon Dragon.” Tech informed. “A species that feeds off raw energy. It was probably drawn to the capacitor’s electric charge.”
“Well, that would’ve been good to know beforehand, Tech.” You said with a sigh before you noticed that Wrecker had walked away from you all, groaning slightly as he held the side of his head. You guessed it was an injury from the rather rough landing.
“You two get those other systems online.” Hunter ordered Tech and Echo. “Wrecker, stay here. We will go after the dragon and get our part back.” Hunter said nodding to you.
“I’m fine. I-” Wrecker protested before breaking off with a moan.
“You’re staying.” Hunter reiterated.
“I’ll go with you both.” Omega said eagerly, jumping off her seat.
“No, that thing could be dangerous.” Hunter said, double checking his vibroblade before putting it back in its cover.
“I’m a part of this squad now too, right?” Omega asked.
Hunter glanced up at you.
You finished putting your weapons on and nodded at him. We can watch her. It’ll be fine. Plus, she’s right and she’ll need to learn how to handle herself at some point. I know I’d rather it be at a time where we can comfortably watch her.
Hunter turned back to face the young girl. “Alright, kid. Just stay close.”
Omega put her oxygen mask on and dashed for the door.
You hummed out a laugh as you watched her enthusiastically run to the door then you saw how the others were looking at each other- their faces filled with a combination of scepticism and bewilderment. You smirked at Hunter and nudged his shoulder. “Come on, it’ll be fun. Of all the missions we’ve had, this one is one of the easier ones.” You both put on your masks and followed her out.
--
The three of you moved speedily along the moon’s rocky terrain. The wind howled softly, and you felt the breeze through your hair. You were taking up the rear, with Omega in the middle and Hunter in front.
Hunter paused and knelt down to the ground.
You and Omega came on either side of him and watched as he ran his fingers through some of the dirt and studied it as it trickled through his fingers.
“What are you doing?” Omega asked in a hushed tone.
“Tracking.” Hunter replied, standing upright.
“Can’t you track the creature? You know, with your Jedi powers?” Omega asked, angling her head past Hunter’s legs to look at you.
“I could if I knew how to properly. Fact is, I don’t and even if I did, it would probably take a lot longer than this. A strong bond is required to connect with an animal, and I have no ground to even begin to establish one with this thing.” You answered, standing up and brushing some of the dust off your trouser legs.
You left out the fact that you quite enjoyed watching Hunter track, it sent a warm tingle down your spine every time, the only exception to that had been Kaller due to the rather serious extenuating circumstances.
“Let’s keep going.” Hunter said.
The three of you moved on, your movements more cautious now as you reached a section with more rocks, providing more cover for anything that might want to jump out at you.
“Could I learn to track like you?” Omega whispered.
“Well, it’s an enhanced skill.” Hunter replied. “Wrecker and Tech, we each have one.”
“And Crosshair.” Omega added.
You looked over her head to gauge Hunter’s reaction but the most he gave was a quick glance back at the young girl. You couldn’t get a read, the only way you could would be to dip into his signature but this task was more important right now.
“You shouldn’t be angry at him. He can’t help it.” Omega continued.
Hunter stopped and sighed. “I’m angry at myself. We don’t leave our own behind.”
Your heart went out to him. You knew that no matter how this situation turned out, that regret would always stick with him.
“Then we’ll find a way to get him back…somehow.” Omega said, coming up on Hunter’s right.
“That’s what I said.” You stated, coming to squeeze his left hand reassuringly. “See, it’s not just me that knows it.”
Hunter nodded at you before moving ahead once more.
You lightly nudged Omega in front of you again and fell in line behind her.
--
The three of you slowly began an uphill climb and crouched behind a rock. A few metres in front of you with its lights blinking, lay the power capacitor.
“See it?” Hunter asked, shining his torch light on it.
“Yeah.” You replied quietly.
“Wait here.” Hunter ordered, sensing that Omega had stood up. “Both of you.”
“You gotta be kidding me.” You objected.
Hunter just tilted his head towards Omega. He needed you to stay for her.
You got the message and let out a frustrated sigh. “Just be careful.”
Hunter gave you a nod and moved out from behind the rock to head towards the capacitor.
You moved closer to Omega and you both watched him closely as he went. You closed your eyes and reached out into the Force around you, looking to see if that familiar signature you’d felt by the panel on the ship was anywhere near you both or Hunter.
Then you felt it, it was right by the rock that was behind the capacitor. You snapped your eyes open and went to warn Hunter, but you were a second too late. The creature had jumped out and attacked him.
You and Omega dashed out and ran towards it, but it had grabbed the part and ran off.
“It’s getting away!” Omega shouted.
That wasn’t your concern right now. You turned away from the direction the creature had headed off in to see Hunter gasping, clutching at his throat.
Panic swept through you. “Hunter, your mask!” You grabbed him as he collapsed to the ground.
You scanned the area around you quickly to find his mask. You spotted it and called on the Force to send it to you. As soon as it landed in your hand, you reattached it. “Hunter, wake up! Wake up!” You said desperately but to no avail.
You checked for a pulse and hung your head in relief when you found one, but he would be out for a while and medical help would not go amiss plus you still needed to get the capacitor back. You spoke into your comm. “Echo, Wrecker, Tech, come in! We need help!” You got no response back.
You heard a snarl and looked up to see the dragon disappear with the capacitor down into a tunnel. You were torn, you couldn’t leave Hunter and Omega couldn’t be left on her own, but you needed that back.
“I’ll go.” Omega said bravely.
“No, Omega. Not by yourself. You could get hurt.” You said, taking your eyes off Hunter to look at her.
“We can’t leave Hunter alone here either. You can stay with him. I’ll be careful. If I’m going to be on this squad, I need to learn how to handle myself.” Omega replied.
You went to disagree with her but hesitated. You couldn’t bring yourself to leave him and if Omega felt like she could, then maybe it could work. “You sure about this?”
Omega nodded firmly.
You sighed. “Okay, take his blaster, torch, and his comm. If at any point, you’re unsure of what to do or there’s a sign of trouble, you tell me. Understand?” You said seriously.
“I understand.” Omega answered, picking up Hunter’s flashlight, blaster, and comm. “Okay, Omega. You can do this.” She said to herself, taking a calming breath.
“Be careful and any trouble, you use that comm and don’t use that blaster unless you absolutely have to.” You told her. She was young, she didn’t need her first instinct to be to kill. “You better go.”
Omega nodded and set off towards the tunnel.
You watched her enter it and then readjusted yourself, so you were supporting Hunter’s body, his head positioned in your lap. Come on Hunter, wake up, you thought nervously.
--
You gently straightened your back, keeping Hunter’s head cradled in your hands as you did so. Right after you did this, you saw his eyes flicker open. “Hunter?”
Hunter groaned and then his eyes focused on you, your head positioned just above his. His appeared to be in your lap. He sat up and held his head then let out a few panicked breaths as he remembered what happened. He tapped his mask, just to confirm that it was really there.
You moved around and kneeled in front of his. “Easy. It’s okay. I reattached it after it fell. You’ve been unconscious though.” You explained. “You scared the shit out of me. Next time you tell me to wait, I’m just going to ignore you because clearly that doesn’t work out well for you.” You said, adding a touch of humour to your tone.
“I’m okay.” Hunter reassured you, laying a hand on your shoulder.
“Just… don’t do scare me like that again. I don’t know what I’d do if-” You stopped yourself from continuing.
Before Hunter could ask about what you were going to say, he suddenly remembered about Omega, she wasn’t here. “Where’s Omega?” He asked urgently.
“Umm… she’s gone after the part.” You replied awkwardly.
“What?” Hunter said, standing up abruptly and which led him to notice his blaster, comm and torch were all now missing. “You let her go on her own?”
“Not enthusiastically but it was either I leave you unconscious and her with you, not knowing if there was anything else out here that could hurt you guys, or I stay with you and let her go after it. It wasn’t like I was left with the best choices. I told her to contact me if she was in trouble.” You explained, standing up too.
“Did you even try to contact the others for help?”
You glared at him. “Yes Hunter, believe it or not I’m not a complete idiot, my first thought was not to send her after an Ordo Moon Dragon by herself. The others didn’t reply.” You replied coolly.
Hunter sighed. “I’m sorry, that wasn’t fair. It’s just…she’s a kid. She could get herself hurt.”
“She’s not helpless, Hunter and she volunteered. She’s not much younger than what I was when I was being sent on missions. Plus, you and your brothers were put in training when you were young.” You said defensively.
“But she’s not exactly trained either or blessed with your particular skill set.”
You opened your mouth to protest but stopped when you realised that you’d lost sight of that. You may have understood the emotional assignment of taking in a child better than the others, but you’d let your own experience cloud your judgement here. You’d looked at Omega and seen a determined young girl, wanting to do all she could to help which is what you’d been like at her age and that was all you saw. You forgot that she’d been on Kamino her whole life and hadn’t been trained in any way. “You’re right. I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have let her go. I just didn’t want to leave you and I forgot her experience has been completely different from mine and yours.”
“It’s okay. We can go find her now.” Hunter said.
“She’s in there.” You pointed up to the tunnel she’d gone into.
“Lead the way.” Hunter directed and followed you as you both ran up to the tunnel entrance.
--
“Omega!” You both yelled down the tunnel.
“I’m coming!” Omega called back.
You exhaled deeply in relief as you saw her crawl her way to the top.
Hunter picked her up out of the tunnel and set her gently down on her feet. “Are you okay?” He asked, scanning her body for injuries.
“Omega, I’m sorry, I never should’ve let you go on your own.” You said, bending down in front of her to give her a quick hug.
“It’s alright. I’m fine. I completed the mission.” Omega said to you over your shoulder. She pulled away and handed Hunter back his blaster at Hunter. “Don’t worry, didn’t have to use it.” She added, looking back at you.
You nodded back at her before you got to your feet to stand next to Hunter.
“I got the part.” Omega said, holding the capacitor up to Hunter.
Hunter took it from her.
“Good work Omega.” You said. “Now we can finally get off this rock.”
--
Hunter walked into the cockpit. “Tech, get us outta here.”
“Gladly.” Tech replied, powering up the engines. “Systems are up and running.” He said as the ship left the moon’s atmosphere.
“Yeah, took you long enough.” Wrecker grumbled, coming into the cockpit.
“And where have you been?” Echo asked, turning in his seat.
Wrecker ignored him and kneeled in front of the passenger seat where Omega was sitting. “Hey, kid. Come with me.” He said, holding his hand out to her. “Cover your eyes.” He instructed with a light chuckle.
Omega did as he said and took his hand despite it being about twice the size of hers.
“I’m not missing this.” You said happily, following Wrecker out of the cockpit and back to the gun tower. You were very curious as to what Wrecker had planned.
Hunter also left the cockpit to see what Wrecker had been doing.
“Okay. Open ‘em.” Wrecker said, stepping away from Omega. “Check it out!” He said with a chuckle, showing Omega the now new and improved gun turret.
Omega walked up the ladder, pulled back the curtain and smiled at what greeted her. Wrecker had transformed the space with new, warm glowing lights and had padded it out for extra comfort. He’d also included his Lula. She couldn’t believe it.
“It’s your own room.” Wrecker explained. “Well, what do you think? I thought this place could feel more like a home.”
“It’s perfect!” Omega said joyfully. “Thank you, Wrecker!”
You chuckled as Wrecker took the praise rather bashfully.
“Oh, uh, it was nothing.” Wrecker replied.
“I never had my own room before.” Omega said, sitting down and holding Lula to her chest.
“Well, you’re a part of this squad now too.” Hunter said, stepping past you.
You noticed that Tech and Echo had now come to see what was going on too.
Omega looked at him then back around her room. She was really starting to feel that now.
The rest of you left her to it and walked back to the cockpit. “That was really sweet of you, Wrecker. And she’s right. That’s a pretty perfect set up.” You said smiling at him. “Hey, how come I never got anything like that?” You asked, nudging Hunter playfully.
“Are you unhappy with your current arrangement?” Hunter lightly teased back whilst also hoping the answer would be no.
You pretended to ponder before answering. “Hmm I guess I can manage.” You replied light-heartedly, giving him a warm smile.
Wrecker, Tech, and Echo just looked at one other, the look saying the same thing- when will they just wake up and admit what they feel for one another? If it’s so clear to us, why is it not to them?

Hey there, friend 🌻 You can call me Light or Lightwise ✨ This is my little corner of Tumblr mostly dedicated to Star Wars (especially the Bad Batch, clone boys, Ahsoka, and Obi-Wan). I am a photographer and writer in my early thirties who spent her childhood telling stories to herself while riding her bike in circles around her driveway. Little did I know at the time that would be considered fan fiction and that however many years later I would find myself nerding out in the Star Wars fandom and loving every second of it ✨
I write a lot of in-depth analyses and musings, which are tagged with #somelightramblings | #some light ramblings (for a touch of irony, because they are usually anything but light or short :D).

Inspired by other fics:
The Adventures of Gonky the Cat - Slight spoiler, Gonky is a cat in the modern AU fic Roasted, Brewed, & Served with Attitude (see description below), and I decided to write his backstory/fill in some of his adventures. This is a WIP, currently there are no spoilers in it, but eventually there will be some chapters that give spoilers for later in the story (and will be noted as such).
Gemini Eyes - This one shot fits in as a chapter in between chapters 85 and 87 of Roasted, Brewed, & Served with Attitude (see description below). DO NOT read it unless you have made it that far in Mel's work, otherwise you will have pretty significant spoilers. I had a lot of fun working with Mel's versions of each character, and it's always a joy to write Tech's thought processes and mannerisms.

Fic Recs
Roasted, Brewed, & Served with Attitude - by MelMorganne99 over on AO3. It's a clever, emotional, modern AU with Crosshair x OC (and one of the best OC characters I've ever read). This fic helped me understand and appreciate the nuances of Crosshair's personality and emotional journey, and has given me endless writing inspiration. And the author is one of the kindest, most engaging people I've ever met online. Please, please, please do yourself a favor and read it. There are 99 chapters but they're on the short side and full of snarky humor and sometimes surprising cameos. This is a full blown fix it fic too, although not always in the ways you might expect!
The Vacation - by @staycalmandhugaclone is one of the best Crosshair fics (and smut fics in general) I've ever read. The writing style haunts me and both Crosshair and the OC are beautifully characterized.
More will be tagged soon!

Brothers
Tumblr media
Notes: if you're not getting any roses or chocos for valentines, have this!! this lil drabble won a poll a while ago so here it izzz,, LET HIM EATTT!!!
Pairing: Crosshair and Wrecker ft. The Bad Batch
Summary: Crosshair wasn't able to get a single bite of a proper meal since the Empire, fortunately, he had a brother who craved food all the time.
Warnings/Tags: mentions of the Empire, brotherly love, mentions of sparring, teeny weeny spoilers of ss2, fluff — tell me if I've missed anything!
Tumblr media
Hunter and Echo had been sparring for a while now, the two always one upping each other every chance they got. Hunter had asked Tech to monitor the session, later to look back on it for any improvements.
Several grunts and groans emitted from the two soldiers as they landed blows on one another, always managing to get back up again to continue to do the exact same thing but maybe a little harder.
Tech looked up occasionally, multi-tasking between recording and tapping away at his datapad. He was stood comfortably at a safe distance from his brothers, just to be cautious if they suddenly started leaping on each other and rolling around.
Omega was munching on a carton of Mantell Mix whilst sat on top of Gonky. The droid didn't mind, the two basically became best friends overtime.
Wrecker was chewing on nerf kebabs, making unnecessary commentary towards Omega as they watched the sparring show between Hunter and Echo.
Crosshair analysed how his brothers fought, slowly growing bored of watching them. He had seen them fight a thousand times, what was so different about this time?
The smell of food continued to annoy Crosshair, having not received as much food to eat over the past few weeks since his 'rescue' from the Empire. As much as he's somewhat happy to be back with his brothers, he would rather be eating than watching.
He stole glances at Wrecker's food as well as Omega's. He assumed the Mantell Mix was sweet so his interest for food was directed more to Wreckers. The grumble of his stomach was luckily muffled by his armour which was a little thicker than his Imperial suit.
"Hah! That was a good trick, huh, kid?" Wrecker bellowed, back at it with the unnecessary commentary.
Crosshair rolled his eyes, averting his eyes back to Wrecker's food as he chomped down on it. Wrecker had a mouth full of food, still commenting which was almost inaudible.
Crosshair seemed to have been staring lasers into Wrecker's food for a bit too long, the brute noticing his brother's sharp eyes, "Want some?"
"No." Crosshair grumbled, bluntly. That was a complete lie, he wanted some.
"Y' been starin' at it for a long while now, are ya sure?" Wrecker teasingly waved the kebab in front of Crosshair's face, convincing him to say yes. Crosshair gave his brother a look of judgement, gritting his teeth almost in disgust.
"Don't want it."
Wrecker's expression faltered, changing to a more worried and caring face. He wasn't the type to memorise hand signals or read the room, but he knew the face of a hungry man.
"Here, take it, did they not feed you in the Empire?" Wrecker's usually loud and booming voice lowered to an inside voice, only really wanting Crosshair to hear it.
Crosshair looked over the exposed handle of the kebab, the handle that Wrecker's hand was once on. He looked up at Wrecker, squinting before taking the food and not wasting a second to dig in.
"Whoa, slow down! It's all yours, we can get more later anyway!"
As Crosshair swallowed the food, the taste of actual nutrition made him feel better. He was way more energetic but still, of course, the quiet and observant man he is. He gave Wrecker the empty stick, wiping his mouth of any remaining kebab residue.
"Good, huh?" Wrecker elbow shoved Crosshair, almost knocking him off the rock they sat on.
"Mhm." Crosshair muttered.
A small part of his lip rising up in a grin.

Andddd we're getting into the end game of season one with War Mantle.
GREGOR MY DARLING <3 Having a terrible time of it. I'm still desperate to know what fills in the portions between the whole 'getting exploded' and this. Anyone like EXPLAINING HOW TECH LIVED WOULD TAKE TOO MUCH TIME - they could always do a Gregor and JUST NOT EXPLAIN SHIT.
Omega trying to copy Hunter's knife tricks is so cuteeeee
NO MONEY MEANS NO FOOD Tech has been trying to convince them of this all season.
Also Wrecker in this scene is why i can't see the batch dynamic without Tech working like imagine Hunter and Echo at odds about what to do and Wrecker is just like You Both Have Points :) Things would simply not get done quickly.
"Ensure every viable clone is mobilized" I am SO SAD ABOUT ALL THE LITTLE TUBIES? AND THE LITTLE CADETS... I am VERY CONCERNED about those babies.
Hunter is the most hesitant bitch in the world. We're banking a lot on a clone we don't even know. The way this man would bundle his squad into a bindle and carry them off into a cave forever.
More Mysterious Tracking Skill. Smell a stick, get a full picture of what happened.
OKAY SO AS I'VE SAID BEFORE, I WATCHED TBB COMPLETELY BLIND, NO IDEA ABOUT TCW OR THEIR ARC IN THAT. WHICH EXPLAINS THAT HUNTER HAS ELECTROMAGNETIC SENSITIVITY. So let me tell you. When he goes from sniffing the ground to being like THERE'S SOMETHING HERE. INSIDE THAT MOUNTAIN. All I could do was go 'okay whatever you say!' but I had no idea how he would have made that determination. Magic mountain vision.
"We do not know for certain if CC-5576 is even in there... or if he is still alive." the way Tech has this line and then Echo saying that if there's even a CHANCE they have to try to get him out... if Echo doesn't go searching for Tech I'm calling bullshit. If there is even a chance, Echo will take it.
God the confusion over only 50 clone troopers and 1000 'TK troopers.' Just genuinely unaware that the clones are being replaced, and it's such a foreign idea that they don't even consider it.
"That's CAPTAIN traitor" is one of my favorite lines in the show
Tumblr media
Perfect screenshot, no notes
Love the exchange between Tech and Gregor. Yes he was captured, AFTER he made it out!
Gonky sounds like he's worried about Omega I know all he can do is waddle and gonk but I will apply anthropomorphization as necessary.
I'm SURE THEY GOT EVERYTHING UNDER CONTROL! *Hard cut to the batch NOT IN CONTROL OF SHIT*
SCORCH. This is my first time rewatching since playing Republic Commando and my intense affection is mixed with 'baby this isn't you someone help him'
Gregor getting shot in the chest and surviving like yeah doesn't this tell you something about perhaps not going into battle in a FUCKING TANK TOP I STILL CAN'T BELIEVE REBELS KILLED HIM LIKE THAT
Tumblr media Tumblr media
No show that made Hunter take this fall without a single scratch on him is going to kill Tech with a fall into the clouds unless they truly TRULY somehow ran out of ways to kill someone. Hunter bounced down that like he was in a pinball machine.
"Glad we're not going that way!" one of you is
The fact that they don't even think of using Gonky until Omega plugs him in like that's how utterly detached they are from what Gonky is actually SUPPOSED TO BE DOING. He is a friend they just love him!
When Gonky got fried I was actually super worried for him the first time.
Hunter telling them to leave without him and bringing in "That's an order" while Omega BEGS TO GO BACK. GODDDDD MY HEART.
The way she does exactly this when Tech falls in Plan 99
Lama Su's uncertain doom is done so well
LAST MOMENT WITH CROSSHAIR AND HUNTER I AM SCREAMING STILL.
I was hoping for the whole squad (because I'm agonizingly lonely) but you'll do

Maybe I will.
All right...so you might not have thought this through entirely before letting these words spill out of you. Your cellmate’s growing hostile expression suggests as much, along with the idea that you’re still very far away from becoming friends.
Nevertheless, this is something that has to be dealt with, especially if your suspicions are correct. Suspicions like Rampart being a lot more oily in personality and ethics than he tried to present at the Senate meeting, even if you don’t know whether or not he interacted with people like you and Crosshair before. Suspicions that there must have been some kind of missing step between you breaking out of your cells and facing Crosshair at the docking bay, although you have no clue as to what that missing thing might be.
That, and all of his isolation, torture, and anything else that’s gone on in this family’s absence, has to be properly brought to light. To Hunter, even, whether or not he wants to hear it.
“You…?”
“Me.”
And in order to do that, you’re not going to be the ‘Little Daughter In Distress’ any more.
You can track wild animals, as well as slightly gentler people.
You can fly a shuttle.
You can shoot an arrow.
You can sabotage a droid, and you can dismantle an explosive.
Should you live to see the outside of this mountain, you will also have proven to yourself that you can break out of one of the largest prisons in the galaxy.
How hard, then, will making one of the most stubborn Clones in existence listen to your claims turn out to be…?
“Think about it, Crosshair. This could be your last chance to get out, and to get someone else besides Hemlock or Emerie to give you a normal check-up. This could also be my last chance to break free of whatever twisted future I’m supposed to help them with, cloning or not. Why can’t we do this together, then? It’s great out there on the outside. Think of all the trees you could climb, all the snacks you could be eating—”
“—And all the lives I could be wasting?”
“What lives?”
He’s doing it again. That strange thing with his face where he presses his lips together and gives you a dirty look, but refuses to speak any further. He was just a little bit stubborn as a baby, too...but nowhere near this level of rigidity. Something big must have happened between back then and right now.
The question is, do you keep on pressing him for details, or just change course to a different topic entirely…?
“Are you talking about the rest of Clone Force 99? Or did you want to mention somebody I haven’t met yet?”
A bit more silence comes and goes...then, somewhat unexpectedly, you hear him answer you in a slightly lower tone.
“...I am not watching any more Troopers die. Just leave it at that.”
“And I’m not leaving you behind again,” you counter, scooting yourself a little bit closer. “You’re still my brother, remember?”
“Oh, will you open your eyes and start facing reality? I’m. Not. Them!”
He’s hissing at you now, a harsh whisper that might not bring all of the Imperial Commandos down upon you, but just enough to drive you away a second time if he manages to scare you that much. That is, if you hadn’t had so much previous experience in dealing with difficult patients.
“I’m not going to entertain you. I’m not going to read you bedtime stories or sing you lullabies. I’m not even going to show you a super-secret way to fix Gonky. So, why in the entire kriffing galaxy are you still—”
“—Because we need each other’s help. That’s why.”
There.
Now he knows.
He knows that he doesn’t have to be a genius to be around you, or loudly talkative, or overly instructive, or so much as slightly wary of other people in order to come home. That’s simply nothing close to what you’re asking of him.
What you do need, however, is a reliable person to be your eyes in the sky.
Someone to keep an eye out for others who might see you stealing a key-card, and then possibly stop you from purposefully using it on the nearest available doors.
Someone to trail along beside you as you search the armory, listening hard over the comm networks for any chatter that would otherwise indicate that key-card is being missed.
Someone to have your back the moment you get into that elevator, and so prepare to open fire upon any surprise attackers as soon as you walk out of it.
And should the two of you not get executed on the spot for attempting to escape...you’ll finally need someone to help you pilot.
“I just need you, all right…? Not Hunter. Not Tech. Not Echo, or Wrecker, or yes, even Gonky. Just you.”
“Fine!”
He throws both of his hands forward, most likely out of frustration, but you’ve got one more thing left to do here. It’s time for a little, shall you say, negotiating.
“Fine. I’ll keep you safe, but on one condition. The moment any one of your brothers—our brothers—decides to turn their blaster on me as payback for saving your hide, it’s over, do you understand? I’m gone. No more begging, no more whining, just me and the next available ship all to myself.”
“Done. And if they shouldn’t turn their blasters on you, but ask to get you checked out by Azi instead, what then?”
“I’ll—I’ll stick around a while longer, maybe even show you how to use my rifle. If they haven’t already sold it off for credits, that is.”
“You’ve got yourself a deal, Cross’ika.”
And the moment you’re done striking the terms of the deal between you, you seal it with a handshake.
It’s done.
It’s done, and you’re going to see the outside of this dreaded prison.
You’re getting all of your possessions back.
You’re going to see your squad again.
And this time, after over a year of waiting, watching, and questioning whether or not you’ve got what it takes to do so...you’re not leaving this lab by yourself.
“Now, if you don’t mind me asking...can I give you a hug?”
Crosshair’s still a little hesitant around you, though, because at first, he just stares at you blankly like you’ve asked him to start speaking in Geonosian. Like he’s not exactly sure if he likes the idea, or even if he does, whether or not it would be remotely safe to do so without getting stabbed in the back somehow.
However...once you’ve taken his other hand, a little less tightly this time and with a hopeful look upon your face...that’s when his usual rock-solid guard lowers a little bit more, allowing you to pull him in.
“Thanks, Cross’ika. You won’t live to regret this.”

writing down my thoughts as I rewatch “Pabu”, this is the most incoherent I’ve ever been, be prepared ROFL
what planet are they on in the opening scene? how long have they been hanging out with Phee? has she been in regular contact with them ever since “Entombed”? I NEED TO KNOW
love that Omega was at the table with Phee the whole time, and Phee used the excuse that she was teaching Omega her trade, we love to see it 🥰
I RECOGNIZED STEVE BLUM’S VOICE INSTANTLY AND NEARLY WENT FERAL
Phee handing that poisoned drink to Omega was really funny to me for some reason LOL
Hunter and Wrecker. HUNTER AND WRECKER. LORDY HELP ME. as if I wasn’t already in love with those two... D A M N 😍😍😍
nah fr Hunter flinging his blade at that worm was LITERALLY SOMETHING I WROTE IN MLWTBB OVER A YEAR AGO WTF
I just need that entire fight sequence embedded behind my eyelids plz, it was SO good \o/
TECH PLAYING SOLITARE ON TOP OF GONKY, I DIED 🤣
all of Phee’s comments about Omega, gurl knows what’s up (and Hunter totally agreed with her)
why was that message from Cid so freaking ominous??? ma’am??? where did this animosity come from all of a sudden??? srsly I feel like the “Cid is a villain now” thing came out of nowhere (despite what happened in “Faster” but I digress... idk it just doesn’t sit right with me ok lskjdfgklfdkj)
they’ve been away for THREE WEEKS doing what exactly???? hanging out with Phee??? traveling to nowhere in particular???? I NEED ANSWERS PLZ
I can NOT believe Pabu is literally just Palma Flora (a city in Wildemount that I set my DnD campaign in 2 years ago). literally the events that happened in this episode were VERY similar to that adventure from the Wildemount guide, and I am cackling about it haha
Phee literally being female space Indiana Jones was not on my bingo card, but I’m not complaining about it, good for her \o/
NOT WRECKER WITH THE “you’ve got some competition!” TO TECH I LEGIT LOST MY MIND OMFG
SERIOUSLY I CAN’T BELIEVE TECH/PHEE IS ACTUALLY HAPPENING I THOUGHT IT WAS A JOKE LSKJFGUIHGLFKDJ
the way Tech stopped when Phee started walking to the museum.... BRUH. DOES YOU HAVE A CRUSH MAYHAPS 👀
Omega immediately befriending Lyana made me SO happy, she finally has a friend her age (which I KNOW Phee thought of on purpose, she brought them all there for OMEGA’S sake, I KNOW IT) 🥰
“do you know everyone here?” “of course! we’re all like family!” YOU DON’T SAY 👀👀👀
THE MONKEYS. they’re so cute and I want 20 of them thanks 🥰
“I... have not heard her laugh like that in some time” *SCREAMS INTO MY HANDS*
to no one’s surprise, I’ve been monitoring Hunter like a HAWK, and I’m pretty sure that man never stopped smiling from the moment they landed on Pabu OMFG. I know everyone is talking about Omega’s happiness, but HUNTER WAS HAPPY TOO. FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER. AAAAAAAAAAAAA
speaking of...
“as a father, you couldn’t ask for a better place to raise a child”
*INHALES SHARPLY*
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
literally I was SHAKING after that line, I am a WRECK and I will NEVER RECOVER
ALSO
“a little stability might do you all some good“ I HAVE LITERALLY BEEN SAYING THAT THE ENTIRE TIME THANK YOU PHEE
it’s not just for Omega, they ALL need this, they ALL need a safe place where they can just live life and not have to worry about anything, PLEASE they need it so bad 😭
space sushi is canon. SPACE SUSHI IS CANON. HALLELUJAH \o/
the way Hunter told Omega to “have fun”... MY DADGUM HEART. SIR. I’M ALREADY IN LOVE WITH YOU PLZ 🥺😭💙
“I’m full! I am NEVER full!” STOOOOOOOP. this poor man has never had a decent meal in his LIFE, I am SOBBINGGGGGGG
and then Tech “I will note the date and time to commemorate such a momentous occasion” PLZ SLKFJGHGLFKDJS
crying actual tears at Omega out on the boat, smelling the ocean, feeling the sun on her face, and reminiscing about Kamino... MY SWEET BABY 🥺🥺🥺💙💙💙
and then Lyana with “doesn’t that get lonely” after hearing that they’ve never stayed in one place for very long... GURL. I FELT THAT. I LIVED THAT. O O F 💔
Phee practically dragging Tech over to the corner to see the lights; she even grabbed his wrist, the menace. she’s got it BAD for him, and he totally feels the same way, I LOVE THEM 🥰
Hunter noticed the monkeys were acting weird, but I KNOW he also felt the vibrations in the earth before anyone else. my man is just that good ok 😌
are tremors common for islands like that? I have no knowledge on the subject. my initial thought was OMG THE ISLAND IS ACTUALLY A DORMANT VOLCANO because of the shape of it?? idk LOL
Hunter ABSOLUTELY could feel the vibrations. “I don’t think it’s over yet” HE KNEW. HE COULD FEEL IT. HE’S THAT GOOD 😤
the fact that it’s been 30 YEARS since the last sea surge, and another one just so happened on the same day TBB showed up. @jam-n-ham and I joked that they brought a curse to the island ROFL
the warning alarm sounding like a foghorn was a nice touch 👌🏻
all of that water receding so quickly was TERRIFYING 😰
Hunter quickly taking charge and telling everyone what to do in his usual calm demeanor, my GOSH I love this man 😩💙
Wrecker sticking with Shep while Phee stuck with Tech, no surprise there 🤗
Omega sounded so scared when she called Hunter, oh my poor baby 😭💔
Tech and Phee with the grappling hook 👀😏
Wrecker immediately picking up the old guy and running off with him, I love him so much 😂
this episode marked the THIRD time we got pilot Hunter, and I am LIVING for it. Tech, please give him the wheel more often 😍🥰
also, I am suddenly reminded of “why is Omega hanging off the ship?!” after rescuing the girls; how’s that for an unscheduled study break? 😝
Wrecker putting the old guy on his back and climbing up the ladder like it was NOTHING 🥵
honestly, one of the most heartwarming things was seeing all the people helping each other during this crisis. when Wrecker came up the ladder, several people grabbed the old guy and helped him up, then several more grabbed Wrecker when Shep was about to fall. Shep was right, the whole island is like one big family 🥺💙
that shot of the island from the following day was devastating 💔
Tech and Phee still hanging out; he literally is just following her around now 😁
WRECKER OMEGA AND LYANA SLEEPING UNDER THE TREE 🥺🥺🥺💙💙💙
absolutely OBSESSED with that moment between Tech and Phee when she stops him, what am I saying, I’m obsessed with all the moments between them, I CAN’T BELIEVE THIS IS CANON FR LDKFJGHJUIGOFLDK
Hunter wanting to stay so they can help rebuild the damaged homes 🥺 as if he needed another excuse to stay amiright 😜
“I had the same idea” “did’ya now?” SLDFJGHIOHGLFDKSJHD
SRSLY THEIR SMILES AT EACH OTHER HELLO??????? YOUR HONOR THEY’RE IN LOOOOOOOOOOVE 🥰🥰🥰
the fact that Shep reiterated that they’re welcome there... y’all they finally have a HOME 😭😭💙💙
and that’s it! end of the episode. man. just pure serotonin from start to finish 💙
and yeah, I know we all have the same thought. “it’s not gonna last!!” WELL MAYBE THIS TIME THINGS WILL BE DIFFERENT HUH, EVER THINK OF THAT???
I honestly think we’re meant to assume the worst, but it’ll end up being ok. sure, Omega getting captured by the Empire is absolutely still going to happen. but I think Pabu overall is going to remain a safe spot for them to return to, similar to Ord Mantell. they’ll finally have a real home. and it would be completely dissatisfying to have that all taken away just for the sake of ✨drama✨. let this show be the ONE time everything turns out ok in the end, please Jen and Brad, I am BEGGING you 😫🙏🏻

Chapter 4 - Recovery
“I feel bad too, y’know. So does Echo. It was my fault Tech fell. I couldn’t hold onto the rail car. It’s my job to be the strong one, and I couldn’t hold on. Echo brought us the intel that spurred us into the mission. You can blame us, but don’t blame yourself. You’re the one who wanted to stay on Pabu.”
First Chapter       Previous Chapter          AO3
The Marauder had never been so quiet in the years that Hunter had lived on it. Between his brothers, Gonky, and for the last year, Omega, it had always been full of life and the sounds of his family. Now it was silent. He stood in the cockpit as he had many times before yet never had he felt like this. One hand gripped the back of the pilors’s chair, Tech’s chair. He may be the Sargent of his squad, the leader, but Tech was their pilot, their brains, and the Marauder would not be the same without him. It was part of the reason they were saying goodbye. The other, more practical reason, was that it was definitely flagged when they escaped Ord Mantell. To Hunter it felt like a betrayal to leave the Marauder behind.
Wrecker had come through earlier and removed their few personal possessions to Echo’s ship. They had all pretended he wasn’t crying when it came time to take down Omega’s things, and no one had stopped him when he moved Tech’s stuff over as well. They had emptied the Marauder of everything but the memories, and now it was time to leave it behind. At least Phee had offered to hide it on Pabu for them, if they ever wanted to come back for it. She’d almost managed a smile as she joked that it was just another relic she could return to the proper people in time.
The loss of Tech and Omega had caused a rift between the remaining members of the bad batch and the friends they had made on Pabu. Or maybe it was that the three of them had pulled away. Both parties knew the batch would not stay now, not with Omega in the hands of the Empire, and it was easier to break a thinner bond.
With a sigh Hunter let go of the chair and made his way off the Marauder for what might have been the last time. Echo and Wrecker were waiting by the hatch of Echo’s ship in silence. None of them had been overly chatty in the few days since losing Tech and Omega. The landing pad was otherwise deserted. They’d said their goodbyes already and no one wanted to draw them out, least of all Hunter. Every second here was a second they weren’t hunting down the Advanced Science Division’s location, where he had no doubt Omega, and Crosshair, were being held.
The three of them made their way onto the ship, Echo going to the pilot’s seat, Wrecker to the back where the cramped bunks and living quarters lay. AZ and Gonky were nowhere in sight, both droids probably laying low themselves in the aftermath though Hunter could hear the whirring of their components echoing faintly off the hull of the ship. Without knowing what to do with himself Hunter eventually found a seat in the cockpit at the comms station. He set his jaw in a hard line when the quiet sounds of Wrecker crying reached his sensitive ears.
“Rex said he had intel on another prison transfer,” said Echo once they were in hyperspace.
Hunter perked up, looking over at Echo. He was staring out the viewport with a look on his face that Hunter only associated with serious missions. The sort of expression that said he was ready to take on anything to get the job done.
“That where we’re going then?” asked Hunter. “To intercept?”
“Not quite. Gotta stop on Coruscant first, pick up more of a team,” said Echo. “We’re in no shape to do a mission right now.”
Hunter bristled. “What are you implying?”
Echo gave him one of his patented exasperated glances.
“I’m just saying, are any of us okay right now? I don’t have to have enhanced hearing to know Wrecker is crying back there, just like I know you’re about thirty seconds away from either yelling at me or breaking down yourself. Our heads aren’t in it, and they have to be if we’re going to get them back,” said Echo sadly.
“You’re right,” said Hunter after a long moment. “Kriff, you should just take over. You’d do a better job at leading what’s left of us.”
“Don’t say that,” said Echo sharply. “Everything that’s happened has been out of our control. There’s nothing to say the Empire wouldn’t have found you on Pabu and destroyed it just to get to Omega.”
“You know, you could really work on the pep talks, Echo.”
“Shut it, Hunter, you know I’m right.”
Hunter just looked down at the comms panel. “How much longer until we get to Coruscant?”
“A good few hours. Enough time for some rest. We all need it.”
Hunter nodded and left the cockpit. He could take a hint when Echo smacked him across the face with it. He paused outside the door that led to the few bunks and took a deep breath.
Wrecker was sitting on one of the three bottom bunks, Lula cradled delicately in his giant hands. The neck brace had come off the day before and now he could curl in on himself even more than he had in days before.
“Echo says Rex has a lead on a prison transport,” said Hunter. He’d never really been good at the emotional stuff with his brothers. Omega had drawn that out of him, but it felt awkward with them.
Wrecker hiccupped and scrubbed at his eyes. He looked up at Hunter with a faint attempt at his usual reckless grin.
“We gonna kick some Imperial ass?” he asked, voice rougher than usual. “I gotta say, I’ve some grenades I need to hand to a particular mad scientist.”
Hunter chuckled. Or attempted it anyway. “Not yet, but soon. We’re meeting Rex first, gathering more firepower, then we’ll take on the Empire.”
“Good. I can’t sit here all day crying,” said Wrecker before he sniffled again.
Hunter clapped him on the shoulder before dropping onto the bunk opposite Wrecker. He may as well try and get some sleep before they land. Or at least give Echo his space and Wrecker some company.
The hours ticked by without note. Hunter didn’t sleep, but both Wrecker and Echo at least attempted to get some shut eye in. Good. He needed them both to be at their best if they were going to attack a transport. By the time they landed in Coruscant the dark circles beneath their eyes were looking a little smaller and lighter. The sight of the two of them looking more refreshed soothed some of the fraying edges of Hunter’s nerves.
The sub-level hangar bay wasn’t the safest option for a safe house, but Hunter had to admit the hiding in plain sight approach was likely the best way to survive on Coruscant. It was big enough to hold three mid-size ships and Echo’s fit perfectly into an awaiting space. Rex was waiting for them as they exited the ship. He gave Echo a quick supportive hand on the shoulder before turning to address the group.
“Hello boys,” said Rex, his tone sombre. “It’s good to see you again.”
“It’s good to see you too, Captain. Wish it was under better circumstances,” said Hunter. He’d let Echo handle the comm to tell Rex what happened with Tech and Omega. He knew he wouldn’t be able to keep himself strong for the call and had gladly relinquished that responsibility.
Rex looked them all over, a furrow forming between his brows. “You sure you’re up for some action? I can take some of my boys and give you all a chance to make a plan.”
“Respectfully, Sir, we’d need the information from the transport to make a plan,” said Hunter.
“Kriff that, we’re coming,” said Wrecker at the same time, his voice booming over Hunter’s.
Rex gave them a tight smile. “I had a feeling you’d say that. We will ship off tomorrow. Tonight is for going over the plan and resting up, you look like you need it.”
Hunter nodded in agreement even though the thought of waiting even another hour rankled him. They needed to get to Omega. Who knows what that doctor had planned for her. From what little information they had on the Advanced Science Division he knew it was nothing good.
Echo looked between them and Rex. Knowing what he wanted, Hunter put a hand on Wrecker and turned them both towards the main part of the hanger. Let Echo have a moment to talk with his friend and former captain, there were enough ghosts already haunting him and Hunter knew Rex was the best person to hear out Echo’s sorrows.
Hunter let Wrecker find them a spot to sit in the hanger and let his brother try and talk about what weapons he’d seen the other clones with and which ones he recognized in the crowd. Hunter couldn’t care less about either but it was nice to have something to focus on to drown out the sounds of the hangar. He took out his knife, spinning it through his fingers absently. With every twirl he imagined what it would be like to sink the blade into the doctor. Maybe it would be his chest. Maybe his back. Maybe his neck. It didn’t matter. The man would die for Omega, for Tech, even for Crosshair, and Hunter would be the one to end him.
“Uhh, Hunter? You hear anything I’ve been saying?” Wrecker’s voice cut through Hunter’s thoughts.
Hunter shot him a look and Wrecker’s shoulders slumped. The bigger man rested his elbows on his knees and stared at his hands.
You’re the one who wanted to stay on Pabu,” said Wrecker sadly. Hunter got the feeling he probably missed something important.
“Who said I blamed myself?” growled Hunter. He did, he absolutely did, but the fact that everything was his fault wasn’t going to change that it happened.
Wrecker threw up his hands in a placating gesture. “I’m just saying, its okay to not be okay.”
“No, I’m not okay,” said Hunter. “And I won’t be until we get her back.”
“Me either,” agreed Wrecker.
The rest of what passed for night in the lit up hangar bay was quiet. Wrecker was restless and left Hunter to his brooding partway through, no doubt to go engage Gregor in an arm wrestle or find Gonky to do some lifting. Clones came and went, only a few actually staying in the hangar bay. All of it registered in the periphery of Hunter’s senses but he didn’t care enough to tune into anything happening around him.
When morning finally came Rex called his team together for going over the plan. Echo stood next to him proudly. Hunter had no doubt he’d been part of the planning process. Guilt swam within him. He should have been helping plan their attack, but instead he’d been wallowing in self-pity. Hunter pulled his shoulders back and stood a little straighter. He if he couldn’t be part of the plan he’d be damned if he didn’t pull it off perfectly. Clone Force 99 had never failed a mission for the Republic, and this mission was far more important than any of those.
He desperately tried to ignore the part of his mind that whispered that they hadn’t truly succeeded a mission since the Republic fell. Since they lost Crosshair to the Empire. Since meeting Omega.
“We’re going to use the electric pulses to shut down the transport. We’ll only have a window of about five minutes before the back up power completely restores the systems to board and get in position. Hunter, Echo, you two will head to the bridge. Echo, you’ll slice into the computer and get the ship logs and any data you can off of them,” said Rex. He was in his element, shoulders straight and helmet held under his arm.
“Yes Sir,” said Echo.
“Wrecker, you, Fireball, and myself will rescue the prisoners. This may be a mission for information, but we are not going to leave any brother behind.”
“You got it,” said Wrecker, nudging the clone next to him and nearly knocking him out of his seat.
“Gregor, you’ll be at the helm once we’re all inside. Nemec and Tailspin will be here on standby in case either team needs backup,” finished Rex.
Gregor gave Rex a little salute before they all made their way into the ship. The mood inside as they got underway was tense. The pre-mission jitters never truly went away and to Hunter the air inside the ship practically vibrated with it. There was a focus to his brothers that Hunter hadn’t seen since the war. Gear was taken apart, cleaned, then cleaned again. Comms were monitored for any sign of Imperials that might ruin the plan. Space was tidied up and room was made in anticipation of new brothers joining them. Wrecker had moved their personals away from the rest, except for Tech’s goggles. Those he moved to the cockpit of the ship and placed them delicately on a shelf, above and out of reach of the regs. Hunter thought it was a good reminder, to see what they’d lost.
“Dropping out of Hyperspace in a twenty count, everybody get ready,” said Gregor into the ship comms with a little giggle.
Hunter slid his helmet on and joined Echo in the leech ship. He was beyond ready.
The jolt of the ship leaving hyperspace was a familiar tug behind Hunter’s stomach. Through the leech ship’s small viewport he could see the Imperial transport in the distance. They hadn’t learned from any of the previous raids Rex and his brothers had undertaken; no fighters accompanied the ship.
Gregor took them in with speed and control, no fancy flying from the commando. The electric pulses shot before the transport even had time to lock the guns onto them.
“Get ready boys, impact in five, four, three, two, one,” said Rex over the comms.
The transport rocked and went dark as the blue bolts hit. At the same time Echo disengaged the leech ship and the two of them sped towards the transport. Gregor was close behind, making for the aft airlock, closest to the prisoner cells onboard.
Echo got them to the fore airlock without incident and immediately sliced into the transport ship’s security to open the door. Hunter stood behind him, blaster at the ready. The second the door was open Hunter scrambled through it, blaster up and shooting. Of course there were the so-called Stormtroopers on board, and just Hunter’s luck they had decided to defend the path to the bridge. Beneath his helmet Hunter wore a feral grin. They might have night vision in their helmets to help them see in the dim red of the emergency light, but Hunter was Hunter, nothing could compare to him.
He charged into the fight, blasting one trooper and swinging the body into another. He slid neatly around another to shoot one that peered out behind cover before swinging back with the butt of his blaster to crack the first one across the helmet. The trooper dropped in a clatter of duraplast armour.
There was no time to breathe as several more troopers rounded the corner and started shooting. Without even thinking of getting into cover Hunter drew his vibroblade knife and launched himself into the closest trooper, digging his knife into the soft skin of the trooper’s neck and using him as a springboard to flip over another and get a headshot.
“Hunter, what are you doing,” said Echo from the doorway he was using as cover. “Get down.”
“We have to get to the cockpit before the system reboots. Come on, Echo, get moving,” shot back Hunter as he fired his blaster.
The Stormtroopers were quickly dispatched, with Hunter doing most of the dispatching. Moving, fighting, it felt good. On the battlefield, cramped as it was inside a prison transport’s corridors, he could take steps and move forward.
When they reached the cockpit Echo scomped in without Hunter needing to ask, though the look he sent Hunter even beneath the helmet was scalding.
The doors opened with a whoosh to reveal a nat-born officer in a crisp uniform who looked like he was about to piss himself, and two Stormtroopers with blasters at the ready. Hunter hadn’t bothered to take cover and shot one and then the other, but not before taking a lucky shot from the second to his shoulder.
“Hunter!”
“I’m fine, focus on the mission.”
He was fine. Though the bolt at close range had knocked him back, it hadn’t taken him off his feet. No, he had an Imperial to question first.
“Where is this transport headed?” Hunter growled lowly, bringing his blaster up with his good arm.
“I-I’m just a nobody, I promise I don’t have the information you want,” said the Imperial. He was young, still a childish roundness clinging to his face.
“Where. Is. This. Transport. Headed,” said Hunter, emphasizing every word with the barrel of his blaster. “Surely your superiors gave you coordinates.”
“I won’t tell you anything, I can’t,” said the officer.
“Hunter,” said Echo in warning.
Hunter sighed. The lights in the cockpit flickered back to life. The ships systems were back online.
“Time’s up kid,” said Hunter.
The officer’s grey eyes darted from Hunter to Echo. Behind Hunter Echo started to move, not towards the scomp link but inexplicably towards the officer.
“Don’t do it kid,” said Echo quickly, to Hunter’s confusion.
“What?” said Hunter.
At the same time a look of determination came over the kid’s face as he bit down on something. Hunter watched with a detached sort of horror as the kid fried himself and dropped, smoking slightly, to the deck.
“What the kriffing hell was that?”
“Don’t know. Last transport we intercepted the officer did the same thing,” said Echo. “Keep watch, I’m going to plug in and see what I get.”
Hunter hefted his blaster and took position by the door. Beneath his helmet he grimaced as the pain from his shoulder started to filter through his adrenaline. No other Stormtroopers came towards the cockpit. No doubt they were distracted by whatever was going on in the rest of the ship.
“How’s it going back there?” asked Hunter into the comm channel.
“Imps got a few lucky shots in, but we’ve got everyone and are heading back to the ship,” replied Rex. There was something in the relief in his voice that niggled at Hunter. He’d found a brother he was close with was Hunter’s best guess.
“Copy that, Captain. We are copying the ship’s data now, should be back to the leech to rejoin soon.”
It only took a few more minutes for the data to copy over onto Echo’s data stick and soon the two of them were making their way back to the leech ship. Once in, Echo quickly set them on a course back to the main ship, already detached and waiting.
“Ok Captain, we’re off. Wrecker, do your thing,” said Hunter into the comm channel once they were clear.
Whatever response Rex may have had it was drowned out by Wrecker’s whoop and the sound of the transport exploding behind them.
Hunter chuckled, but stopped when Echo caught his eye. There was a look of cool disapproval on Echo’s face as his eyes flickered from Hunter’s down to the blaster burn in his armour.
He was so kriffed.

Pretty please can we have something where Echo and TBB find out Rex and reader are expecting? Bonus points for Omega's reaction cause I wonder sometimes whether she knows much about the natural way babies are made? I figure she wouldn't have need of that information in the Kaminoans' eyes.
I wanna preface this by expressing the joy I feel and the appreciation I have when you guys come into my inbox asking or wanting to talk about Post-Order 66 Rex and fam. I love it SO MUCH you have no idea :’)
So, if you remember, Hunter was briefly in Insatiable and has a couple lines of dialogue - he even congratulates them on the pregnancy and wishes them well in case he doesn’t see them soon - which is shown during Rex + reader + Hunter’s short interaction. The squad is told the happy news before the events of that particular installment, and I’m thinking that it happens when Rex contacts them to ask if they would be able meet him on [planet] for a little help with [mission].
Find the rest of the series and related works in the Post-Order 66 Rex ML
Let’s go back in time when Rex makes contact with TBB, which preludes the events of Insatiable: (pregnant!reader, TBB + Omega finds out, about 1.6k words)
<<<>>>
"We’re being hailed.”
All members on board the Marauder drop what they’re doing and turn their attention to Echo, who had just called out and is signaling for everyone to congregate in the cockpit. Hunter sheathes the knife he’d been twirling in his fingers and nods before stepping towards the rear of the ship and calling for Omega, while Wrecker sets down Gonky and waves her over. Tech and Echo are already sat in the cockpit, getting the signal steady for the incoming transmission to come through.
"What is it?" Omega jumps down from the gunner's nest - now her room thanks to Wrecker's kind heart and creativity - and joins her brothers in the cockpit. The pilot seats are swiveled around and facing the small space in the center of all of them - the bust of a familiar captain popping into view. "Oh, it's Rex! Hi Rex!" She waves at his translucent blue form with a giddy smile plastered on her face. “Where is-”
"Hello Omega," you chime in with a smile as your head pops into the perimeter of the holo. Her sweet face lights up even more, and her eyes move back and forth between you both, unsure of whom to focus on. From the room you’re still staying at in a high-rise located in Yerbana City, the two of you exchange quick greetings with the five who are currently traveling through hyperspace.
“What’s goin’ on, Rex?” The gentle giant asks with a grin and hands placed on his hips. The captain straightens his stance and crosses his armored arms across his chest plate, and instead of directing his impending response to Wrecker, Rex’s attention turns to Hunter, who’s leaned against the frame at the threshold of the cockpit. A moment passes as the two share a nonverbal understanding before Rex opens his mouth - the focusing pairs of eyes on one another.
“I wanted to see if your squad would be available to help me out.” You quietly observe each individual who are all appearing on your end as full-body projections, landing on Omega to where she’s sitting on top of their Gonk droid - her hands folded neatly in her lap, legs swinging.
“Name it.” Echo is quick to respond with a affirmative nod as he meets the eyes of each member - cutting off Hunter before the sergeant can get a word in. Rex’s oldest friend found himself caught at the receiving end of a very slight glare coming from directly across from him, and begins to backtrack. “I-”
“What is it, Captain?” Hunter interjects.
You sort of tune out the rest, having already been given the spiel by Rex long before you’d suggested for him to contact Hunter for some much-needed assistance. It’s a simple mission: scouting out an abandoned base in hopes to obtain supposedly valuable information from the obsolete Republic database and perhaps to also restock on munitions if there’s anything left there. Normally this would be something Rex could manage on his own, though his thoughts have been a little busy since the start of your extended stay in Yerbana. The two of you ended up taking a little much-needed ‘vacation’ in the repopulating capitol city after receiving the incredible news, and you’re just now getting back into the swing of things. Well, for the most part. Rex doesn’t quite trust his focus as of late with far too many other important things swarming around in his mind, and is worried that he'd make a mistake doing the mission solo, no matter how simple the objective appears to be.
Hunter accepts without resistance, and confirms that they'll meet the two of you just outside the abandoned base immediately after they’ve finished their current objective for Cid, which will probably be in another eighteen hours or so. Rex transmits the coordinates, and it falls silent; the awkward clearing of the throat coming from Rex crackles through the air on their end.
“Somethin’ else, Rex?”
“Actually, yeah. We have some news.” Rex grins and rubs at his nape, and you can't help but to smile wide at him from your position at his side. The squad members all share a glance - a mixture of raised, inquisitive brows and narrowed, concerned eyes. Hunter steps closer to the projection, caution engrained within the features of his half-inked face as he crosses his arms.
“Tell them, love,” your sweet voice of reassurance crackles with the brief wavering signal - your hand laying to rest on his pauldron. Rex chuckles down at his feet and grabs your hand to bring it up to his chest, squeezing gently as he begins to acknowledge the others.
“Everything okay, you two?”
“Based on their lifted expressions and display of affection towards one another, it appears that this ‘news’ is of a positive, exuberant nature.”
You can’t help but laugh at Tech being Tech, which results in mixed reactions at the other end of the call. Rex inhales deep - the air quietly seeping through his nostrils on the exhale. “We’re, uh- we’re gonna have a baby.” His lit up eyes drop to his boots and he’s smirking at his feet as soon as the words leave his lips. You watch as the multiple pair of eyes widen with smiles creeping their way onto each member of the squad’s faces, but the first person to audibly respond is Tech - his focus not lifting from the device held in his hands.
“Are you certain?” All heads snap in Tech’s direction to where he’s leaned forward in the pilot’s seat, elbows resting on his thighs, continuing to tap away at the datapad. Smacking his bother’s knee, Echo squints at Tech and shakes his head.
“Yes, Tech,” you giggle as your hand releases from Rex’s and moves to rest against the beginnings of your baby bump, though you’re unsure if they are able to see either one of you from the chest down. “The bun has been confirmed as baking in the oven. We risked a brief visit to the local med center here, so, we’re certain.”
“Well then.” Tech’s brows lift above the rim of his goggles as he readjusts the spectacles with a finger pushing between them. “Felicitations to you both. That is quite extraordinary news. It seems that I was correct in-”
“That’s so wonderful!” Omega exclaims with the largest grin - hopping off the GNK and clapping her hands excitedly as she approaches you. “When are you getting the baby? Are we going to see the baby when we meet them at the rendezvous, Hunter?”
“Of course you're going to see the baby, Omega,” you answer softly for Hunter, giving him a quick smile and nod, saving him from having to explain. “It won’t be for quite a few months, though. Not until after the baby is born.” Omega’s brows pinch together in confusion, and you cautiously elaborate, unsure of what she already knows as far as what the natural-born process entails. “The baby has to grow inside of me first, and that takes a little while.”
"Inside of you?" Her curiosity is absolutely adorable. She turns to her brothers - soft eyes flickering to each one of them.
"You see, Omega, when-"
"Uh, Tech?" Rex clears his throat, and the intelligent trooper is quick to get the hint - closing his mouth and resuming to silently tap at the datapad. Echo is next to chime in, and he’s smiling like a fool, eyes wide.
“You’re gonna be a dad, eh? Wow... that’s- that’s just incredible, brother.”
“I’m gonna be an uncle!” Wrecker very loudly exclaims, and Omega and you share giggles at his enthusiasm.
“Technically, Wrecker, we are all going to be ‘uncles’ since Rex is our brother, genetically speaking. Therefore, any offspring he may produce would be considered as our nieces and nephews. That is how the nat-borns conduct their family trees.” Tech punctuates his statement with a sure nod - speaking with his finger raised in the air so as to draw attention to his point.
You’re so lost in the way Rex’s eyes continue to positively sparkle with pride and adoration as his brothers and Omega shower the two of you with congratulatory praises that you’re forgetting to respond to all of them.
“We appreciate it, everyone,” you say with an ear-to-ear grin - beaming at Rex.
“We’ll see you all soon,” Rex concludes, “Stay safe out there.”
The holo vanishes as the transmission disconnects, leaving the squad on board the Marauder to go over some more details of their next objective as well as to process the news.
“So...” Wrecker turns around and leads Gonky back to where he was benching the power droid before the call. “What do ya think Rex is gonna do?”
Hunter raises the brow bordered with dark ink. “What do you mean?”
“Are they going to keep this up, now that they’re going to have a kid? You know, the missions and stuff?”
“We have Omega,” Tech inputs matter-of-factly as he prepares the ship for exit from hyperspace. “And we are managing just fine, barring our dwindling ration supply.” Omega smiles sheepishly, but nods with confidence.
“Rex is a good man.” Echo swivels his seat around and sits up straight, meeting the four pair of eyes now gazing back at him. “Always tried to do what was best for his men, his brothers, and still does, even if it's beyond his control or out of his hands. Now that Rex is... free,” Echo puts the most stress into that word as it’s spoken - glancing down at his feet and chewing the inside of his cheek before continuing, “He’s in control of his life, and is able to choose his own path. And that path will lead to what’s best for his family.”

The wind howled as you, Hunter, Tech, and Wrecker continued working on the repairs of the very run-down speeder you had found in the spaceport.
Wrecker tossed his head back with an aggravated grunt. “I’m bored, I’m hot, and I’m starving.”
“I told you to preserve your rations.” You said with a small sympathetic smile.
“Well…” Wrecker sighed. “… I got hungry.” He tried to hammer in a part of the speeder, but it immediately fell back out. He dramatically sat away from it. “We’re wasting our time.” He grumbled. “This skiff’s a heap of junk.”
“Yes, but with a few repairs, it’ll be a slightly operational heap of junk.” Tech countered. “The energy cells have just enough power to get us to the town on the other half of the hemisphere.”
“Power?” Omega mused from where she was sitting. And then it hit her. She stood up excitedly. “We forgot about Gonky. He’s still on the Marauder.”
“I’m afraid since the thief disabled the ship’s transponder, we will not be able to locate him.” Tech said.
“Not the ship. I mean we can track Gonky.”
Brilliant. You applauded whilst Hunter nodded and smiled in her direction.
“Oh. Ingenious idea.” Tech praised. “Try doing a trace on his binary reference code.”
“On it.” Omega said determinedly as she walked over to the satellite.
Wrecker chuckled. “Don’t get your hopes up, kid.”
You chucked him a spare ration bar of yours which he eagerly accepted. “Shut up and keep working.” You said with a grin before you got back to your section.
--
“I’m getting a reading. I think I found Gonky!” Omega said with a gasp.
Wrecker released an absentminded laugh before he registered what she said. “You- What? You found him?”
Omega walked over to Hunter and Tech and showed Tech the datapad. “His signal is 100 kilometres east. If Gonky’s still on the planet, the Marauder must be too.”
“Let’s get this thing running and find out.” Hunter said.
--
Once the repair work was complete, Tech started directing you all to where you needed to sit in order for adequate weight distribution. He then told you and Hunter where to go.
Hunter nearly choked as he heard his brothers instructions.
“Sit on his lap?” You repeated, your mouth going dry. That was quite possibly the worse thing Tech could say to you right now. Situating yourself like that would not help quash the ever-present sexual frustration.
“Yes.” Tech replied simply before he got in position and powered up the speeder.
You refused to look at Hunter as you sat across his lap. Helmet or not, having that type of eye-contact would serve to make things worse. You kept your head down and your hold on his shoulders was anything but relaxed as Tech got the speeder in motion.
Hunter had an iron grip on your hips and his fingers were wrapping themselves tightly in your clothing. The jolty speeder ride was only adding to the pain of keeping himself under control.
--
It felt like eternity before you reached the destination.
Well, that was uncomfortable. Youlet out a deep sigh as you moved off him.
“Not exactly the word I would use.” Hunter mumbled as he stood up.
The five of you stared at the town in the distance ahead.
“Gonky’s signal is pinging from down there. I’m reading minimal life-forms in his proximity but an unknown number in the subterranean level.” Tech divulged.
“This place looks worse than the abandoned spaceport.” Wrecker said.
“We’ll do a split approach. Stay alert.” Hunter ordered.
--
“What am I gonna do with a defective power droid?” Benni said to the droid in front of him.
“That’s our defective power droid.”
Benni cowered at the voice turned around to see two armoured men staring down at him.
“Now, where’s our ship?” Hunter asked the young boy.
“Oh… You see, the thing is-” Benni dashed to the side and made for his speeder.
Hunter and Tech just shared a non-concerned look. They’d expected as much.
Wrecker stuck his arm out as the bike rounded the corner and the kid wiped out from his speeder.
Benni got up and tried to run again but he was forced to back down by a young girl with a bow and a woman pointing her blaster at his face.
“Why is it they always try to run?” You said, your tone filled with boredom as you holstered your blaster whilst Wrecker grabbed the boy and the four of you headed back in the direction of Hunter and Tech.
“Beats me.” Wrecker said before he tossed the kid to the ground in front of their lost droid. “Hey, Gonky, you okay?”
The droid let out a few cheery sounding chatters.
“What do you care how that thing’s doing?” Benni asked. “It’s just a beat-up old battery.”
“Not to us.” Omega said fiercely.
“Let’s try that again.” Hunter said to the boy as he took off his helmet. “Where’s our ship?” He asked aggressively.
“Can you be more specific?”
“The one you stole yesterday.” You clarified, finding his stall tactic unamusing.
“Oh, right. That ship.” Benni chuckled nervously. “Well, Mokko has it. He gave me the droid as a gift.”
“And who is this Mokko?” Tech asked.
“Who’s Mokko?” Benni repeated, stunned that none of you had any idea about him. He stood up. “He runs this whole town. He’s the boss. Your ship’s his now.”
“Yeah, we’ll see about that.” Wrecker barked.
“Take us to it.” Hunter ordered the boy as you all closed ranks a bit more to back him further into the corner.
“No way. I can’t help you go against Mokko. You don’t know what he’s done for me.” But one quick growl from the tall one had his shaky resilience crumble. “All right, all right. I can show you where your ship is. But if you get caught, you don’t know me.”
--
“Techno Union ran this mine during the war, but Mokko took over when they were forced out. He’s kept this operation running ever since.” Benni elucidated as he showed you all what lay below.
“So, you’re an ipsium miner and a ship thief?” Omega challenged.
Benni turned back to the girl. “Mokko says they’re useful skills.”
“Stealing’s not a skill.”
“It is when you’re good at it.”
Tech brought up a holomap. “The central portal is ray-shielded, and all subterranean entrances appear to be guarded in shifts.”
“Ah, we’ve stormed tougher strongholds than that.” Wrecker said, dismissing any potential threat.
“You can’t use blasters inside an ipsium mine. You’ll destroy everything and everyone in there.” Benni pointed out. “Cut your losses now.”
“There is one covert infiltration point.” Tech said before he pointed it out. “From there.”
A large cloud of exhaust left the top of it.
“Figures.” You said with a sigh.
“The stack has a lower access hatch inside. If timed correctly, we can rappel down between exhaust cycles.” Tech explained.
Hunter looked at it through his macrobinoculars. “How big of a window is there?”
“Sixty seconds.” Tech replied.
“Plenty of time.” You and Omega said together.
“Glad you’re all so confident, but getting cooked alive wasn’t on my agenda. Good luck. I’m rooting for you.” Benni got up and turned to leave.
You placed your hand on his shoulder to prevent him from going any further.
“You can go once we have our ship back.” Hunter said coolly before he signalled to you to let him go.
--
“Oh, boy.” Wrecker said anxiously as he looked down from the top of the exhaust vent at the town. He really needed to stop doing that. It was then though he noticed the boy trying to slip past. He grabbed him and led him over to where the rest of you were.
“Set.” Hunter told Tech.
“On my mark.” Tech replied as a rush of steam was released.
“This is a very bad idea.” Benni fretted.
Please be careful.
Hunter nodded at you before he went over to the edge of the vent.
Tech’s timer beeped. “Now.”
You were glad your mask was on because it meant you could appreciate how much of a show off he was being without drawing attention to yourself. He didn’t have to stand up like that and he didn’t have to gracefully tip over the side like that, but he did it anyway. He was playing with the time he had, and you found it both attractive and amusing. You only hoped that would be the main thing you were feeling as he did this since you knew even the simplest appearing tasks tended to go wrong so you watched closely from the top as he made his way down.
--
Hunter got just over halfway down before he had to stop as a droid entered the bottom of the vent. He waited quietly as the droid analysed the area.
“You said it was unguarded.” You hissed at Tech. Now you were starting to get nervous. Sixty seconds had felt like plenty of time but now it was disappearing rapidly.
“It was at the time.”
“Thirty seconds.” Omega whispered.
“He’s not gonna make it. I’m telling you. You gotta bail before it’s too late.” Benni said in a panic.
“We don’t do that.” Omega replied.
“This is not good. This is not good.” Benni fretted.
Omega gasped as he knocked the torch out of her hand, and it started to fall.
You got ready to reveal yourself and stop it, the trouble it would cause being worth it if it protected Hunter’s cover, but you didn’t need to. What a show off. You thought to yourself as you watched him catch it. Despite the nerve-wracking situation, you couldn’t help but have a moment of falling victim to the base feelings attraction. The entire build up was filled with small, subtle moments that highlighted his skills and they were enough to get your blood to run hot. If you weren’t already too far gone and in love with him, you’d have been embarrassed at how easily he was able to reduce you to a hot mess.
Those feelings swiftly evaporated as you realised time was still ticking away. “Hunter, you have to move.” You urged into your comm.
Hunter pushed off the wall to move a few more metres down before he pushed off the wall and leaped towards the droid. He tackled it and used the momentum of tumbling forward to kick the droid over him. He got to his feet quickly and parried the hits from the droid. When there was an opening, he pulled it towards him and pushed him into the middle of the vent. He opened the door and dived through just as time ran out.
You all ducked as the hot exhaust exited the vent.
Hunter checked the space ahead before cleared the steam. “All clear.” He said into his comm.
Benni glanced warily between all of you. “You definitely aren’t ipsium miners.”
“Nope. You stole the wrong ship.” Omega said smugly.
You all slid down the wire and joined Hunter in the next corridor.
“Let’s move.” Hunter said.
You gave him a meaningful glance but ignored the questioning tilt of his head as he caught your eyes.
--
Benni held a finger to his lips as he glanced back behind him before he looked on and waited for the right moment to move out.
You took in the scenes in front of you. The various doors and settlements built within the mine were all connected by a series of bridges, and it appeared the workforce consisted of children and young adults that were watched on by security droids. It was by no means a safe environment and you knew these kids were being mistreated in some way or another.
“The conditions of this mine are less than ideal.” Tech commented.
“It’s because the ipsium’s become degraded.” Benni explained. “Mokko had to lower wages just to keep this mine up and running. At least we’re still working.” He changed the subject as he saw a gap opening up. “Your ship’s in the upper garage bay across from the central tower. Come on. I know a shortcut.”
Hunter caught his shoulder before he moved. “No tricks.” He warned.
“Hey, I’m not trying to get caught either.” Benni said by means of reassurance. He led the way to the garage.
--
You all had removed your coverings once you realised the garage was secure and you saw the welcome sight of the Marauder.
“Well, there’s your ship.” Benni stated as you all walked into the garage. “I held up my end of the bargain, so I’ll be off.” He turned on his heels and went to leave.
“Hang on.” Tech held a hand out to keep him from turning back. He walked over to examine the ship. “The hyperdrive has been removed.”
The rest of you glared at the young boy.
“You didn’t ask me what condition it’d be in. How’s that my fault?” Benni said defensively.
Wrecker lightly shoved the kid in the back and walked off with a frustrated growl.
“Relax. It’s not a complicated fix.” Benni said breezily.
“It better not be.” Wrecker growled.
“Grab the hyperdrive. Let’s make this quick.” Huner ordered Wrecker whilst you and him got to work on checking out the rest of the ship.
“What about the ray shield? We still need to shut it down.” Omega reminded you all.
“You can only do that from the central tower.” Benni stated.
“Let’s go.” You said as you half turned to face him.
“No way.” Benni objected. “You stick out too much. If you don’t trust me to go alone, she’ll blend in easily enough.” He indicated to the young girl who was still stood next to him.
Hunter considered the proposition for a moment before he spoke to Omega, “Don’t let him out of your sight.”
Tech walked over and handed a spare datapad to Omega. “Transfer the data onto this and I can access the shield remotely.”
“Let’s go.” Omega got ready to hassle out, but the boy stopped her with a scoff.
“Not looking like that.” Benni said before he handed her his jacket.
--
“How’s is looking?” Hunter said into his comm as he kept a lookout for any potential trouble.
“I can get most of the systems back online easily enough, but we are not going anywhere until we get the hyperdrive reconnected.” Tech said from inside the ship as he lay underneath the main console.
“We’re working on it.” Wrecker replied testily as he held another part in place for you to secure.
--
More time passed and you were now keeping guard with Hunter on top of the ship since Tech had insisted that he do the next set of repairs himself and you were fine with that- you knew he’d be faster, and he knew the ship better than you.
“The motivator is installed, but I still have to connect the primaries to the guidance system and adjust the navicomputer.” Tech commed in from where he was now under the ship.
“Weapons system’s online.” Wrecker added.
“We’re not engaging.” Hunter informed. “The situation for these kids is bad enough.”
“Mokko appears to be using his powers and means as leverage over his workers. It is a similar tactic used by the Empire.” Tech theorised. “Although, this operation is on a smaller scale.”
It was then you saw from your position two kids climbing up the ladder to the garage. You nudged Hunter’s arm and the two of you hid behind part of one of the wings of the ship.
“Didn’t Bryce and Hugh say they removed the hyperdrive?” One of the kids asked his companion as he studied the scene in front of him. It was then he saw two men working below it. “Hey, who are you?”
“Uh, Mokko sent us.” Wrecker said.
The wary looks the two boys gave each other didn’t fill you with confidence. You and Hunter jumped down and slowly approached them.
“Easy.” Hunter said steadily.
“We’re just here for our ship.” You said calmy but it wasn’t any good. The two boys darted back down, and you and Hunter were left with little choice but to follow them before they blew your cover.
“Get the engines online.” Was Hunter’s last order to Tech and Wrecker before he followed you down the ladder.
--
“Any luck with the shield code?” Benni asked tiredly. She had been at it for a while now and was showing no signs of being any closer.
“Not yet.” Omega said as she stayed focused on her task. “Most of this data is just Mokko’s profit reports. I thought you said the ipsium here’s degraded.”
“It is.” Benni replied.
“Not according to this.” Omega said as she studied the numbers on the datapad.
“Let me see that.” Benni approached her and looked at the screen but then, thanks to his earlier actions of alerting Mokko to their presence when they had first entered the room that he was now immediately regretting, Mokko and two security droids came through the door.
“My thief caught another thief. Nicely done, Benni.” Mokko said gleefully as he limped towards the young girl. “I’m impressed. Where are the others?”
Omega gave Benni an accusatory look before she was back up further by the imposing creature in front of her. Mokko looked to be more machine than anything else.
“Garage bay.” Benni answered glumly. “Sorry. I had to.” He said to her.
“That’s my boy.” Mokko praised. “The title of top earner is definitely in your future.”
Mokko left first and Omega was escorted out by the two droids, leaving Benni with the datapad.
--
You and Hunter ran sprinted through the door and glanced around but you couldn’t see the two boys anymore.
“Dammit.” You whispered, more to yourself if anything. Then Tech’s voice came through the comm channel.
“The hyperdrive is nearly online.”
Hunter sighed as he responded, “We lost our spies.”
“And they called in backup.” You said as you saw more people walk on the bridge in the distance. You and Hunter pulled out your blasters and kept your eyes on the bridge.
--
“It appears we have uninvited guests.” Mokko said as he walked across the bridge. “Care to show yourselves?”
Tech and Wrecker instantly came through the door that opened onto the bridge with their blasters drawn.
“So, you think you can come here and steal from me?” He asked the intruders angrily.
“Technically, this ship belongs to us.” Tech disputed.
“Not anymore! And I’d rethink the blasters.” He chuckled sinisterly. “One stray shot, and we’re all done for.”
“We don’t miss.” Wrecker said confidently.
Mokko merely laughed again. “I believe you, but I think you’ll reconsider.” He indicated up to a half-built bridge where the young girl he’d captured was being dragged to the edge of.
You all looked up to the sound of Omega’s struggles and immediately the stakes had changed.
“Lower your weapons, or she goes over.”
Tech and Wrecker dropped them slightly.
You also put your away whilst Hunter brought out the grappling hook from his pack.
You could tell what the type of plan that was formulating in his head. You or me?
“Probably better to have you on standby in case this doesn’t quite go to plan.”
Just make sure it goes to plan.
--
“Trespassing and attempted theft. Ten years in the mines seems like a reasonable punishment, if you survive that long.” Mokko sneered at the two men. “Take them below.” He instructed his workers.
Wrecker and Tech shared a nervous glance as the kids advanced towards them.
“Stop!” Benni yelled as he came out of Mokko’s office with the datapad that illuminated the lies he and his fellow earners had been told.
“Not now, kid. I’m busy.” Mokko said dismissively.
Benni wasn’t going to be dissuaded and he everyone deserved to know the truth. “You lied to us, Mokko. The ipsium’s not degrading! You’ve been cutting us out and keeping the profits for yourself!”
“That’s a lie. Don’t listen to him!”
“You never cared about us at all.” Benni spat angrily. “And I have the proof right here.” He held up the datapad.
“Let me see that.” Drake took it from him and saw the truth for himself. He scoffed, “What’s going on, Mokko? We toil down in the mines while you enjoy the spoils?”
Mokko could feel the odds turning against him as all the kids stopped paying attention to the two soldiers and were now fixing their gazes onto him. “I was taking my share! None of you would’ve survived without me! Don’t forget that.” He nodded to his droids to take up position both in front and behind him before he then turned his attention to the droid with the young girl. “Throw her over!”
--
Omega saw the grappling hook wrap around one of the bridge posts and she knew what she had to do as the droid started to drag her to the edge. She held onto its arm and waited for Hunter to get closer and once he was, she used all her strength to pull the droid over with her. The droid past her and fell into the chasm below but she reached out her hand and found Hunter’s who held onto her tightly as they followed the line of the grappling hook back to the bridge.
Hunter guided her onto his pack and she climbed onto his shoulders to get back onto firm ground.
--
Such a beautiful fucking show off. You thought to yourself with a longing sigh as you watched him catch Omega and they both successfully made it back to the bridge. You drew your blaster again and watched for what was going to happen on the bridge next.
--
“No one’s going to take what belongs to me.” Mokko said, his panic rising as his ranks closed in around him. “Take care of all of them!”
Tech and Wrecker each fired a shot that disabled the droids before they had a chance to follow Mokko’s order.
Mokko raised his cane as his head darted between the two groups surrounding him. “I’ll deal with you myself.”
You fired a shot that skimmed the right by his foot and that, plus the added momentum of the careless swing of his cane as his ranks closed in on him saw him go over the side of the bridge.
Mokko’s cane caught on the bars, and he dangled helplessly.
“Grab my hand!” Benni cried as he reached between the bars for Mokko.
Mokko merely sniggered and used his mechanical claw to get a tight hold of Benni’s outstretched hand and tried to pull him through. “You never should’ve crossed me, kid.”
Benni grunted in discomfort but was grateful to the hands that kept him secure. He could only watch as the grip Mokko’s other hand had on his cane failed him and he fell screaming into the abyss below.
--
With Mokko’s reign ended, the five of you were able to get back to your ship and get ready to leave.
You stood by Omega and Hunter whilst Tech performed some final checks and Wrecker greeted Gonky.
“Good to have you back.” Wrecker said with a chuckle as he lifted Gonky.
You caught the exchange out the corner of your eye, and it made you smile.
“Here’s your stuff.” Benni said as he steered the platform in front of the three of you.
“All of it?” Hunter asked with a firm stare.
“Yeah, don’t you trust me?” The immediate silence to Benni’s question was answer enough. “Okay, that’s fair. But it’s all there.”
You and Hunter took it over to the ship, leaving Omega alone with him.
“So, what will all of you do now?” Omega asked.
“I guess we’ll keep mining ipsium. It’s what we know.”
“You can be whatever you want.” Omega said encouragingly. “It’s a big galaxy. You don’t have to stay here.”
“It’s not so bad. And with Mokko gone, we’ll all be getting an equal share of the profits now.” A voice in the distance got his attention.
“Benni, chow time!”
Benni waved over in acknowledgement before he focused on the young girl again. “Thanks for showing me the truth. Hey, if you ever need a thief, I owe you.”
Omega smiled as she watched him go before, she got lost in thought.
“What is it?” Tech asked, noticing her demeanour as he approached her.
“The Empire’s not the only threat.” She turned to face him. “We’ve seen so many in the galaxy like Mokko.”
“Unfortunately, yes.” Tech agreed solemnly but he looked back to where the rest of you were putting the stuff back in the Marauder. “But there are many like us as well. And that is something.” He said with a slight smile as he rested a hand on her shoulder.
The two of them joined the rest of you on the ship before it took off.
--
“You’re supposed to be following the examples of the others and be sleeping.” You chastised quietly as Hunter came to join you in the cockpit. He was in his sleep clothes with the necklace you’d given on display. It was a sight that never failed to get your heart beating just that extra beat faster.
“You’ve spoiled me. It would seem that getting to sleep is more difficult without you next to me.” Hunter admitted as he came to sit in the chair opposite you. “Anything to report?”
“Not a thing.”
“Makes a change.” Hunter mused.
You nodded in agreement and ran your hands up and down your bare arms. “You know we’ll have to get in touch with Cid at some point?” You asked carefully.
Hunter released a tired sigh and hunched over. “I know. Figured I’d let us all catch up on some rest and then bite the bullet.”
“And the plan is still to part ways?”
“Yeah. What just happened proved we can’t stay with her. Don’t exactly know where we’ll go but…”
“We’ll figure it out?” You guessed with a smile.
Hunter huffed out a laugh. “Exactly.”
“Sounds good to me.” You moved from your seat and crossed the short distance to stand in front of him.
“Thought you were on watch?” Hunter said with a smirk as he leaned back to allow you to sit, and he let his hands fall to your hips.
“Lucky for me, there’s another set of eyes here.” You threaded your hands through the ends of his hair and tilted his head back.
Hunter suppressed a groan, “This isn’t- this isn’t very professional.” His voice lacking any sort of authority that he was only unenthusiastically trying to find anyway.
“Would you like me to call you ‘sir’ then?” You flirted as you brought your lips to temptingly close to his, but you didn’t close the distance yet.
“Fuck.” Hunter rasped.
“Or ‘sergeant’?” You breathed against his lips.
Hunter sighed deeply. The limited willpower he possessed was rapidly evaporating.
“Or I can stop.” You offered sincerely. You traced the small Jedi symbol on the necklace and pulled back to look at him properly.
Fuck, no, he didn’t want that at all. “It’s just- I don’t know if there’s time for- or even if we should-”
“I know. Wrecker takes over in ten minutes. Let us have this.” You knew things couldn’t get too hot and heavy with the limited time you had, and you didn’t want things to extend that far given the current living situation but you both just needed a moment, not matter how small. You bridged the gap and kissed him.
Hunter’s hands caressed your back as he kissed you back. “I noticed some interesting things on this past mission.” Hunter said as he broke away and let you plant some light kisses to his neck and jaw.
You recognised the teasing and inviting lilt in his voice, but you played along. “Oh yeah?”
He curled a finger under your chin to stop you and bring your eyes to his. “There were quite a few instances were your heartbeat and body temperature skyrocketed.”
You couldn’t prevent a natural reaction to seeing him be as capable as he was during the mission, but you should’ve known it wouldn’t have gone unnoticed. “I don’t um know what you could possibly be uh referring to. You’re mistaken.”
It was Hunter’s turn now to take his time paying attention to you. You were also in your sleep clothes, so he had free reign. His lips left a trail across your clavicle. “I’m not wrong about this sorta thing. It’s in my genes to be right.”
“First time for everything.” You deflected, biting back a sigh as you let your head hang back to give him more access to your neck.
“You’re squirming.” Hunter teased quietly.
“I am not.” You argued half-heartedly as you were becoming more focused on the feeling of his lips on your bare skin.
“You are. Don’t really think I’ve seen you squirm before…” He trailed off to focus his ministrations on the sensitive spot just behind your ear. His lips grazed the shell of your ear before he murmured, “What was it?”
You couldn’t resist. You could bare the humiliation so long as he just kept doing what he was doing. “You, you ass.”
Hunter smiled against your mouth. He kissed you softly before he turned his attention to the other side of your neck. “Keep talking.”
“You were- you were just so unnecessarily capable and- and you were showing off with it. And dammit it you looked really fucking hot. Is that what you wanted to hear?” You let out a soft groan as he gently bit down on your pulse point.
“I should do things like that more often if it gets you like this.”
“You’re just saying that cause I’m on your lap as I’m doing it.” You said shakily as an attempted deflection but the smirk you felt against the skin on your neck told you that it wasn’t a very good one. You sometimes forgot that as easy as it was for you to read him and get a glimpse into what he was feeling, it was just as easy for him to do it back, if not more so. You sought out his mouth once more but you both paused at the faint noise in the background.
The sound of rustling in the corridor behind you and the indication of boots hitting the floor told you both that your time was up. You got to your feet and hastily went back to your original seat. You made it with a perfectly respectable number of seconds to spare.
“Thing’s are good here, Wrecker. Can’t imagine you’ll have to do much.” You informed as you and Hunter stood up.
Wrecker gave you a thumbs up. He didn’t question why Hunter appeared to be with you. He’d honestly expected as much and was just happy he hadn’t interrupted anything. “You two go get some sleep.”
You and Hunter made your way back to your bunk and within moments of lying down, the two of you fell fast asleep, comfortable, and secure in each other’s arms.

You laid on the ledge, watching over the others through your scope.
“Lodestar, anything?”
“No movement whatsoever.” You responded, looking to your side where Omega was laid next to you with binoculars, “Omega?”
“All clear. Nothing.”
“I’m going in. Echo, cover me.” Hunter affirmed.
You nodded, looking through the scope of your rifle again. You watched as he and Echo made their way through the small valley, moving stealthily between the rocks. You then averted your attention to your surroundings, looking out for some unwanted company. Tech and Wrecker were on the other side of the valley, waiting just above also.
“Um… Lodestar?” Omega caught your attention, “What’s that?”
She handed you the binoculars and helped you look to the direction she was observing beforehand. You then saw the lizard-like creature stalking Hunter and Echo’s trail. You quickly gave the binoculars back before speaking into your communicator.
“Hunter, your 5 o’clock!”
He turned, pulled out his knife, and swiped at the creature. It moved back and hissed at him. You positioned your rifle and prepared to shoot, but then Omega exclaimed.
“Wait! Behind it! Look!”
You furrowed your brows before moving your scope to see a nest full of eggs.
“Hunter! Move away slowly! Put your dagger away!” Omega instructed. He hesitated, but did so, which also caused the creature to retreat.
“There’s an alternate path to your left.” Tech declared, “It’s fairly faster than the one you’re taking now.”
“Better timing next time, Tech.” Echo grumbled.
The lot of you made your way back to the speeder after retrieving what Cid’s client wanted. You helped Omega into the speeder before looking at Wrecker as he readied his bike. You smirked and signalled Hunter to drive the speeder while you made your way to the other speeder bike.
“Race you back, Wreck.”
He laughed, “Oh-ho, ad’ika! You’re on!”
You boarded the bike and nodded to him while starting it up.
“Do us the honors, Omega?” You insisted, which caused her to grin.
“Ready… set… GO!” She cried and you took off with Wrecker, who was whooping.
The both of you egged each other on, but then the speeder caught up and found its place between you two. You looked briefly to see the small smirk on Hunter’s face as he maneuvered the speeder. You laughed and revved the bike, overlapping both the speeder and Wrecker.
“Oh no you don’t, ad’ika!” Wrecker shouted, urging the bike.
You and him were at the same pace, but before you could reach the house, Hunter managed to outrun the both of you. You slowed your bike to a stop before hopping off it and laughing while Wrecker grumbled. Omega cheered as she got out of the speeder while Echo laughed at Tech, who’s hair was unkempt and goggled were dusty. Hunter patted Wreckers shoulder to comfort him. D-5 rolled out of the house, circling you.
“He-Hello! Home, home, home!”
You urged him back towards the house, “Kapu might be back in town. The sun’s not up yet, so we can go see him in an hour or so. Come on.”
Omega rushed into the house with D-5 while you all followed behind her. You and the Batch relieved yourselves of your armor, then you went into the kitchen to make a meal for everyone. Omega played with D-5 on the floor while Hunter was discussing some things with Echo, Tech was messing with one of his devices, and Wrecker was knocked out in one of the chairs. This was a sight you missed, it had something new in it, but was still missing a little bit of something else. You managed a small smile while going back to cooking. You then placed a large bowl down with the food along with some plates.
“Dig in.” You announced.
They didn’t deny the food being offered and started eating. It has been a long time since they’ve had a real cooked meal other than rations and Mantell Mix, so they cherished every bite taken. You stood, watching and admiring them. You were finally relishing that they were really here with you and it wasn’t some fantasy you would often have after the incident on Coruscant. Omega was a great addition to the Batch, but it didn’t fully fill the hole where Crosshair was supposed to be. If he were here, you knew the two of you would be yelling over each other, but then ended up in one another’s arms as if you hadn’t left. You felt a small bump and looked down to see D-5.
“Sad. Star sad.”
You shook your head and crouched down, “You keep bumping into people like that, your balance module will come out of place again.” You pushed him back towards Omega before making your way to the bed where Hunter was sitting, having finished eating. Echo had moved to the sofa where Tech was, talking to him about his arm or something like that. Omega was leaning against the chair Wrecker was sitting on, eyes getting droopy. You laughed gently before going over to her and picking her up.
“C’mon.”
“Not tired.” She murmured as you placed her on the bed behind Hunter, moving the covers so she could get under them.
“Wrecker used to say the same thing.” You whispered while tucking her in.
You turned back to the others while taking your seat again.
“You should rest too.” Echo insisted, “You haven’t since your last mission.”
You shook your head, looking down to your hands, “I… don’t sleep that often anymore. I’ll be alright.”
D-5 rolled in front of you, “Bad-bad dreams.”
You sighed, “Mind your business before I shut you down.” You kicked him gently.
“You sure it wasn’t you who made his balance module wonky?” Tech smirked.
You rolled your eyes, “Wow… when did you find your sense of humor?”
He tossed a pillow from the couch towards you, which you caught.
“Hey,” You whispered, “Omega’s sleeping!”
They all managed to chuckle, nearly all the tension off their shoulders.
“It’s been a while since you’ve all relaxed, huh?’
Echo nodded with a sigh, “We’ve had to deal with a lot… bounty hunters, jobs, even Crosshair…”
“This… is different than just staying on Ord Mantell and waiting for Cid to send us off on a job.” Tech admitted, “It feels almost… like before.”
You nodded, “Yeah… I was thinking the same thing.” You smiled gently, “I really missed this.”
“We missed you, mesh’la.” Hunter murmured, bringing you closer to him and placing a kiss on your head, “So much…”
You looked at them as they all nodded, which caused tears to come to your eyes. Hunter placed a hand on your face and shushed you.
“It’s alright, cyare, we understand.”
Wrecker spoke up, “Are you… are gonna come back with us? To Ord Mantell?”
You took a moment to look at him before shrugging, “I don't have much here. This place was just… refuge. It was never home.”
“Kamino was home-”
“No,” You muttered, “Kamino wasn’t home. Not to me. Kamino was an escape from my past… Home was with you. All of you. That was home.”
“Are you ready to come home then, cyar’ika?”
You looked at them all before nodding, “Yes. Yes, I am…”
*******
You stood in the shop while Kapu talked to Cid through the holo device.
“Yeah, your boys got it. They’ll be back soon.”
“Good. Nice doing business with ya, Kapu.”
“Does that mean I get that date?”
Cid scoffed before hanging up, which caused Kapu to laugh.
“She loves me.”
You rolled your eyes with a smile before heading to him.
“Gonna miss me, Kapu?”
“I’ve been tryna get rid of you, girl!”
You laughed and set down a bag of credits, “Here.”
“What for?”
“Letting me stay here?”
He picked up the pouch and poured it out into his hand, then used another had to take half the pile before putting the rest of the credits back into the pouch and tossing it back to you.
“I ain’t no charity. And take D-5 with you so I don’t need to worry about smashing him with no door again.”
You nodded before walking out with the Batch. You hiked up your bag on your shoulder and looked down at Omega as she was holding D-5.
“Gonky will have a new friend!”
“Gonky still works?” You asked incredulously while Tech nodded.
“Surprisingly, yes.”
After a bit of walking, you all arrived at the ship and you stood there for a moment, taking in the sight of it.
“Wow… still looks the same.”
“Wrecker wanted to put Senator Amidala up there above the hatch.”
“I thought that was just a joke!” You exclaimed.
“He thought it’d cheer us up after Coruscant.”
You shook your head with a smile while boarding the ship.
“I’m glad you didn’t or else I would’ve turned back around.”
Omega rushed in with D-5, climbing up into the gunner’s mount. You furrowed your brows slightly.
“It’s her own little space…”
You nodded, “That’s good. It’s hard dealing with you guys all the time.”
“She’s used to it by now.” Echo laughed before making his way into the cockpit.
You placed your bag down and walked into the cockpit also, relishing the feel of it again. Omega rushed in and sat in the seat that used to be yours. You smiled and took the seat that was once Crosshair’s.
“Alright, setting route for Ord Mantell.” Tech announced as everyone settled in.

We make a good team
Wrecker x Fem!Reader
No one dared to lay a finger on you, not even to speak to you in a bad way, and the reason was fear, fear that your tall and strong man would do something to them in order to protect you. But sometimes there are people who don't know that.
Tumblr media
The others were at Cid's Parlor, but soon you would go to the Havoc Marauder because there was another job waiting for you to do. You were inside the ship, preparing it before takeoff, but Hunter ordered you to return to the bar through your communicator. You obeyed and exited the ship in the direction of the bar, but before you could get out of the docking station a man who was running collides with you, and both fall to the ground.
“Hey, you! Be more careful, or are you blind?” then man asked. You almost thought it was funny that the man was angry because it was his fault that he fell to the ground.
“You're the blind one, friend! Watch where you're going”
You didn't hurt yourself when you fell to the floor, but your palm feels a little sore. That man didn't care who you were, but when he sees that in the fall his datapad had been destroyed, he gets angrier at you when you were not to blame for anything. They were one of those typical guys who liked to pick fights over anything.
“You destroyed my datapad! That's it, you're going to pay for that” he gets up off the floor, but you don't.
“Well, that's your fault”
You see that the man was serious about making you pay when he comes threateningly close to you, but you always had your big, strong bodyguard.
“Hey, you!”
The man turns around when he hears the voice coming from behind him, and is startled when the tall, big, strong figure of Wrecker grabs his clothes around his neck and lifts him up with one arm very easily, making him take his feet off the ground.
“Oh, you better not have been planning to do what I think you were going to do” Wrecker sounded very angry, and he was certainly scarier that way.
“Let go of me! I promise I wasn't doing anything!”
“Yeah, right”
“Easy, big boy. Leave him” you approach him and put a hand on his arm, which he had up because he kept grabbing the guy and holding him in the air.
“But I saw you on the ground and him approaching you! If he was going to dare to hit you…”
“Easy, easy, pal. I wasn't going to do anything to... your friend”
“Wrecker” you now rest your hand on his chest.
Wrecker listened to you and let go of the man, causing him to fall to the ground in a sitting position.
“You mess with my girl and you mess with me, got it?” he makes his fists crack.
The man definitely runs out of there, scared, and Wrecker chuckles at the sight of him running away like a coward.
“Ha! It's always the same with these guys. They run away like cowards”
“Well, you gave him a good scare. Look how he runs” you smile.
“And that's fun! Do you think I made him soil his pants?”
“Most likely. You scare them easily. You are tall, very strong, you have big muscles…” you pat him on his chest. “And I love that”
“Oh, you've already made me blush” he smiled and he runs a hand over the back of his neck, his cheeks were a little flushed.
“You look adorable” you were smiling.
Despite the brief funny moment, Wrecker remembers seeing you on the ground earlier. He lowers his hand and rests it on your back, with a very soft touch.
“Are you really okay? What happened? I saw you on the floor”
“Yes, I am fine. Don't worry. That guy bumped into me as I was heading into Cid's Parlor”
“What an idiot! But, are you sure you're okay?”
“My hand only hurts a little, but it’s nothing”
“But…”
“It’s nothing, big boy, really. So, you've come looking for me?”
“Yeah. Hunter told me you were on your way, but I wanted to come… and look for you”
What Wrecker was saying was true, but you knew he was hiding something. You look at him with a raised eyebrow, but always smiling, and he gets a little nervous because he knew that look of yours.
“Oh, don't give me that look!”
“Come on. Tell me everything”
“Fine! The truth is that I wanted to see you...” he blushes. “I don't like it when you are absent for a long time”
“Oh, big boy. I was absent for half an hour”
“Well, it's an eternity for me! But… I know I worry a lot. I know you can take care of yourself”
It was adorable to you that Wrecker would always worry about you, after all the situation you were in could be considered dangerous because you were fugitives. You were about to say something, but over your communicator you hear Hunter say to you and Wrecker that they were on their way to the ship.
“Well, it looks like another job in progress”
“I just hope there are some explosions this time! The last job was boring”
“Yeah. That’s…” you hear Wrecker's stomach rumble. “Looks like someone wanted to make an appearance. You didn't eat anything?
“I wanted to eat! But I can't buy Mantell Mix or anything else before we do the job and get paid. You know... the debt”
“I know. I may have the solution to that”
“Oh, you have credits?”
“Something better”
You head for the Marauder and Wrecker follows. Once inside the ship, you start looking for a box that you had kept in case of emergencies, but you did not find it in the place where you kept it. Maybe someone found it and put it somewhere else, but you had no idea where it might be. You were thinking for a few moments, while Wrecker was doing weights with Gonky, and suddenly it occurs to you where you might have left that box.
“Got it!”
“What?”
“There, at the top of that rack. I'm sure someone put the box up there, maybe Echo”
“What's in that box?”
“Emergency rations. I'm sure they wanted to hide that box from you and me”
“What?! Oh, well, that's over!” he leaves Gonky on the floor. “They will see that they can't keep something from us for long”
“Yeah, but the rack is too high”
“That's easy to fix!”
Wrecker grabs you by the waist and easily pulls you up, making you sit on his shoulders. Thanks to that, now you could reach the rack easily, so you look for the box among the things.
“Did you find it?”
“Not yet. There's a mess up here. Oh, wow”
“What is it?”
“I found the flashlight we lost”
“Oh! I thought we lost it in Felucia”
“Felucia… It almost seems like an eternity has passed since that mission”
“You could say that again! I kinda miss the old days”
“Me too… Everything changed so fast”
“Yeah. But I still have you”
“And I have you, big boy”
After giving Wrecker a pat on the cheek, you continue searching until you finally manage to find the box.
“I found it!” you grab the box and open it. “And we found our reward”
“Ha! That's my girl. And they still don't realize that we make a good team”
“More than good” you smile.
Wrecker carefully helps you off his shoulders, and when you had your feet on the ground, you pull a ration bar out of the box. He was hungry, so when you give him the bar, he grabs it and eats it in one bite. You knew him and you knew that with just one he would not be satisfied, so you give him another bar. He realizes that he was eating all the rations and you weren't, you didn't care, but he did.
“I... Here” he gives you the ration bar he was going to eat, which was the fourth one. “You have to eat too”
“It's okay. I'm not hungry”
“Please”
When he looked at you with those eyes, you couldn't say no to him. The truth is, you were a little hungry, and so you smile and grab the ration bar.
“Thanks” you start eating the bar.
“It's nothing. I have to thank you, though. You are… always taking care of me”
“Of course. I love you and want the best for you” you wipe your mouth with your hand.
“Oh, I already have the best, and it's you”
Wrecker wraps his strong arms around your body and hugs you tightly. You reciprocate the hug, and when you separate just a little, you give him a kiss on the cheek.
“You take good care of me too, you always did” you said.
“It’s because I love you too. Now, before the others show up...” he lifts you up by grabbing your waist so that you are at his height, and you rest your hands on his shoulders. “I want to, you know… kiss you”
“You don't have to ask, big boy”
You bring your mouths together and join them in a kiss. As you always did when you kissed, you stay like this for a few moments, especially when you were alone. You wrap your arms around his neck to make the kiss more loving and deeper, and Wrecker hugs you a little tighter. When you separate from the kiss, you give him a caress on the cheek, and he refused to put you down.
“I have to put the box back in place. I don't want the others to know that we take rations without permission” you said.
“Right. Good point. But I don't think they'll find out”
“Let's not risk it”
Again Wrecker makes you sit on his shoulders, now to help you put the box back in its place, which was at the top of the rack.
“Done. If we are lucky, they will not suspect"
“Ha! They won't suspect us” he helps you get off.
“About what?” Omega's voice is heard.
You and Wrecker look at each other in surprise, and turn your heads to the side to see only Omega at the door of the ship. She had her typical curious face, as always.
“Oh! Hey, kid. We… We were talking about…” Wrecker certainly didn't know what to say.
“About adult stuff” that was the first thing that came to your mind.
“Yeah! Exactly”
“Adult stuff?” she was confused. “Why would others be suspicious of that?”
“You know... There are things that a couple keeps secret” you said.
“And we appreciate privacy… sometimes” Wrecker said.
“Oh, okay” she smiles.
Did she really believe that? Anyway, you and Wrecker relaxed when you heard her say that.
“Don't worry. I won't say anything about the ration box” she finally says and goes to her room.
“… I think we are bad at hiding things” Wrecker said to you.
“We are terrible criminals” you said.
“But we're still a great team" he smiles.
“There is no doubt about that” you smile.

Moving right along to Rescue on Ryloth
Howzer's face when Rampart threatens Hera oh god, he hates this. Despises it even.
Howzer trying to talk him down as if Rampart is anything but a scumbag. He doesn't know who's responsible but he knows it wasn't Cham damn it. And of course he wants to look for Hera himself because that way he can HELP HER.
"Leave the thinking to me Captain" FUCK YOU RAMPART DO NOT TALK TO HIM LIKE THAT.
Omega trying to fix Gonky <3 And during all this apparently this is the first time she's been told he's a defective unit, it's the way that Gonky can't fulfill the one thing he's been created to do and they don't make a big deal out of it they just bring him with them because they're defective too and they love him.
Hunter last episode like 'hey Omega made a friend :)' to this episode with 'Omega's friend is instantly and immediately in mortal peril' This kind of thing always happens to them.
Children often overreact! are you using your vast experience with a wide variety of children on that assessment Tech? You weren't even aware children needed friends.
Hunter trying AGAIN to back out of doing anything and being put on blast by a 12 year old.
"The shocking attack on your beloved senator" and everyone is looking up at him like 'no actually we hate that guy.'
I love every time Hunter stops everything like a hunting dog because he Sensed something. They've never defined anything about how his senses work just he is Aware of things when necessary for the plot.
I forgot how he took down the probe droid by just fucking goomba stomping and stabbing it.
Honestly if everything were the same but Crosshair wasn't here, I think they wouldn't have tried to back out the second time. But having Crosshair there both ups the chances of them dying or of him dying, and avoiding him is the only way they know of having that not be a possibility. They don't know his chip is out yet, so as far as they know going near him will earn them another 'aim for the kid' moment. They can't reach out to him, he doesn't understand what's going on in his own head, IT HURTS OKAY.
Sign #2 that Crosshair is more himself. He put his fucking ass on Rampart's desk.
Tumblr media
He is also tossing things
Rampart has zero patience for being talked back to and unfortunately unchipped Crosshair is incapable of not talking back, especially about his squad.
I'm obsessed with the fucking wet cat face that he makes when he first looks at Howzer before he remembers that he's SUPPOSED to have a bitch reputation to upkeep and switches it to a glare.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"I don't need a lecture Chop" what is he saying Hera is he telling you to commit murders about it?
Hera absolutely SHOOK that the batch are Omega's brothers.
The scene with Howzer and Cham & Eleni hurts my feelings okay, we trusted you Howzer. Please he wants to help, he wants to help so bad.
Honestly though I'm obsessed that Chopper has been with Hera for so long because like her parents met the murder droid that craves blood and violence and went 'yeah this is a good friend for our daughter'
GIRLS ENTERING THEIR SHUTTLE THEFT ERA
"WAIT WHAT SHUTTLE-"
Tech is experiencing every form of Heart Attack at once here
"Yes your dangerous and uncontrolled maneuvering is as confusing to them as it is to us" this is one of my favorite lines he's SO tired.
Howzer gets to me every time, he wants to get through to his squad he refuses to abandon them, even if it kills him. And let me tell you on the first watch through I was SOOOOO SURE HE WAS GOING TO GET KILLED. But of course we get our big sign that Crosshair is Different than last time with the arrest order. I NEED to see theses two interact again damn it, it would be very reasonable for Howzer to be Pissed at him given the whole arrest thing but he doesn't know how big a deal it is that he was not sniped here instead.
Tumblr media
Saddest little face
"If a war is coming, it will be their fight as much as ours." Another reason I think they won't be retiring at the end is that I think there is going to be a bittersweet aspect to the fact that, despite everything, I don't think they're going to be able to give Omega the childhood that Hunter especially desperately wants to give her. They can change how they think of themselves, they can change what they do, but they can't change the fact that war is coming and no matter how hard they try to keep her away from it, there won't be anywhere to run after a while.
"If only they were fighting for us instead of against us."
Honestly love that this is the biggest motivator behind Crosshair wanting them to join the Empire isn't this specifically, they're in danger for going against the Empire but IF ONLY THEY WERE FIGHTING FOR THE EMPIRE. No more danger!
Never caught this before but it looks like he smiles slightly at the end there but it's so damn quick it's hard to tell. Finally Crosshair has an idea! (it's not a great one but it IS an idea.)

Tall
Prompt: Tech is too tall for his own good. Constantly hitting his head on objects and desks as he works on projects. The other bad batchers make fun of him for this but you find it endearing.
Tech X Reader
Slow Burn/ Angst
Warnings: Mild 1.10 Spoilers
Word Count: 1.5K
Part 1/?
This was 100% inspired by this gif from episode 7 of Tech under the main control desk.
Tumblr media
You enter the cockpit of the Havoc Marauder late at night slowly and quietly as you try not to disturb the tall man who is working on the wires under the main panel.
“Tech?” you call softly to him when he doesn’t notice you.
He abruptly sits up hitting his head on the underside of the panel and laying back down quickly with a loud thunk.
“Well that was unpleasant.” he says with a grimace of pain as he leans out from under the panel. You try to not look worried when he rubs his head where he had hit it on the panel.
 “Is there something you need?”
“Sorry! I just couldn’t sleep. Figured you were still up here.”
He nods slowly as he leans back down to continue working on the wires.
“Do not mind me. I am upgrading the general security system of the outer walls. The door has been slow to close recently and I am trying to fix the timing. Feel free to sit in here as long as you want. I could use the company.”
He becomes absorbed back into his project as the time passes. Mindlessly chatting about the upgrades he's making and the general gossip of the other men and Omega. It is mostly you gossiping honestly. Tech isn’t the biggest gossip in the world but he listens like every detail you talk about is the most important and interesting information he has ever heard.
“I’m pretty sure Omega thinks we don’t notice when she borrows our blacks to sleep in. I swear every time I turn around I’m missing another shirt out of my basket. I think it must be a comfort thing.” you say with a yawn as you fight back the call of sleep. Tech’s presence is a calming one and you love hearing him talk. He is your favorite of the bad batch and you might have a small crush on him but you would never admit it to him. He is your best friend. Tech nods absently as he pulls another wire from under the panel.
“I have noticed mine disappearing too but I assumed Echo was doing laundry and got them mixed up with Hunter’s again.” he says slowly. His goggled eyes glance towards you with mirth in his eyes at the joke.
“If Echo is confusing your black’s with Hunter’s then he really must be bad at laundry. You have at least 5 inches on him and your blacks are much bigger. At least he doesn’t think they are Wrecker’s.”  You chuckle sleepily at the thought.
Tech crawls slowly out from under the panel, making sure not to hit his head again, apparently done with his upgrades. “I think it is time for you to go to sleep,” he says with a small smile in his voice. You don’t complain as he helps you stand and leads you towards the bunks where the rest of the crew is sleeping.
“You need sleep too.” you protest as he turns to go back towards the cockpit. He smiles wryly at your pathetic attempts to chastise his insomniac tendencies. “I will be fine. Someone needs to stand guard until morning.”
You wake up to the sounds of the rest of the Bad Batch moving around and packing up for the rest of the day. Hunter is passing out rations, Wrecker is curling Gonky like a barbell, Echo is slurping what is obviously his 2nd cup of caf of the morning, Omega is still curled up in her little corner with her clone trooper doll and Wrecker’s blacks on looking more like a night tent than a nightgown, and Tech is nowhere to be found but is more than likely in the cockpit still.
“Any caf left?” you ask in Echo’s general direction. He grunts in the direction of the pot that still has ¾ of the brown liquid in it. You pour 2 cups of the precious drink and head towards the cockpit. Tech is absorbed in his datapad and again doesn’t hear you enter. You wait in the doorway and watch the tall man as he scrolls through the information he has been pouring over all night. The smell of the caf fills the cockpit. Tech sniffs the air and turns towards you as a smile appears on his face.
“Is that for me?” he asks hopefully. You hand him the cup you prepared for him just the way he likes it. He smells the cup before he takes a sip. “It is perfect. Thank you.”
You fall into the co-pilot seat with your cup and start to examine the new security system that Tech spent the night working on.
“Looks good to me! Anything I need to know before you all leave for your mission?”
Tech starts explaining the broad strokes of the new system and how the upgrades make it easier to use. You nod along as you listen to the explanation. The men are headed out on another one of Cid’s bounties. This one is on Raxxus? You think.
“Isn’t Raxxus the separatist capital? Why are you all headed there?” you ask slowly, not comprehending.
“A job is a job. We must pay back our debts.” He’s doing the really cute finger thing he does when explaining things.
Your heart melts at the gesture. He doesn’t realize how cute he is sometimes. Tech gives you a strange look as you realize you have been staring at him for a moment too long.
“Hey Tech!” Hunter calls from the back of the ship.
Tech stands up to head back towards the bunks where the other men are gathered around a map of some kind. He hits his head on the top of the doorway as he forgets to duck while walking through it.
  “OW”
You stifle a laugh as he rubs his forehead and pushes through to the back of the ship. You can hear Echo making a crack at Tech’s mishap with a light laugh.
“Watch out for the roof Tech. Your head might damage it if you aren’t careful.”
That man is too tall for his own good. He towers over you when you stand next to him and you won’t deny it makes you feel things. You have had a crush on the nerdy clone pretty much since you joined the merry band of deserted clones. You joined in the aftermath of Order 66 with Omega from Kamino. You were her nanny and you gladly went with the clones when the imperials took over. You never quite trusted Palpatine when he was the Supreme Chancellor and you trusted him even less when he turned the clones against the Jedi and declared himself Emperor. The Bad Batch offered you freedom and you seized the opportunity. Shaking off the memories, you make your way back towards the back of the ship. Omega is awake now but is still sitting in her bunk. Her big eyes are blinking away sleep. You help her down and she immediately goes to stand next to the clone she has claimed as her makeshift father. Her nightshirt is almost dragging the ground with how long it is and you chuckle at the sight. Hunter gently pats her hair, mussed from sleep. Echo hands her a ration bar then turns back towards the map. Tech has an angry red mark on his forehead right above his glasses from where he hit the top of the doorway.
“So what is the plan?” You ask as you look over the map. It appears to be a blueprint of the palace on Raxxus. Hunter starts explaining the mission in simple terms so that you can understand. Basically they need to rescue the senator from the Imperial clones. Omega and you are to stay on the ship and protect it from patrolling clones. Omega protests this as you frown at the idea. Hunter shuts down the complaints with a wave of his hand.
“It is safer for you two to stay on the ship than risk losing you to the imperials” He says quietly. “I can’t lose you again.” he says to Omega as he bends down to her level, “This is the best option right now. We don’t know what we are walking into on this planet. We already have 2 at least bounty hunters after you and the last thing we need is the clones to find you too. We still don’t know where Crosshair is or if he is even alive after the last encounter. I can’t lose anymore of you.”
He finishes slowly and turns back to the men gathered around the blueprints scattered on the table as he rises. Hunter nods to the others and they head towards the ramp. You gather Omega up in your arms and head up to the cockpit to watch as the men depart. She is not happy at the thought of being left behind and her big eyes are shining with anger and hurt. You hold her close as you watch the men disappear into the trees with the droid client. I hope they are going to be okay. You think to yourself.
