TW: major character death and spoilers mentioned, as well as having blood extracted and emotional distress(think of Marley and Me or Old Yeller)(second one's not a great example). discretion is advised
in COD Zombies: Zombie Chronicles, it was explained that, in order to break the cycle, someone who's teleported at least once/multiple times, needed(cw here) to be drained of their blood, that person being Richtofen. that scene was heartbreaking enough as Richtofen begged his comrades- his friends- to come back and not leave him behind. i want an au where the three others(Dempsey, Takeo and Nikolai) stay with him(cw here) as he has his blood drained or, in other words, as he dies. they're just comforting him and telling him he's ok as he keeps whimpering that it hurts and he "can't get out, i want to get out please, i beg of you". of course his friends say that "this has to be done, we need to break the cycle Richtofen..."
eventually Richtofen thanks them for helping him and for "being my comrades-- nein, my friends..."
he finally(cw here) goes limp as all his blood has been drained and the four(including alternate Richtofen) leave their friend and the machine behind
granted this is considering the fact that(spoilers here) the Richtofen that was sacrificed was actually the alternate Richtofen that told our Richtofen about the blood sacrifice in the first place, the two having swapped places(which i think is what happened?)(a veteran to the series can clarify if i am indeed wrong, which i wouldn't find surprising). isn't actually what happened. maybe, instead of doing what i mentioned in the spoiler section it was our Richtofen that was sacrificed and he was(cw here) the one that got his blood drained and died. maybe they(the other three) revived him somehow, like if the Shadowman gave them "one wish"(which i'm not sure he can actually do?). but yeah, just a lil idea i had. sorry in advance for how long this is

Synopsis: Following the events of season 3, Erica has embraced her love for Dungeons & Dragons and begins organizing campaigns centered around her new D&D character: Erica The Great. At the suggestion of her mom, she enlists her friends to play the game with her. However, Erica's attempts to control D&D cause her friends to turn on her with disastrous results. Now it's up to Erica to fix things before everyone ends up in trouble.
Observations:
This is the third graphic novel since Zombie Boys and The Bully, and it's once again penned by Greg Pak, this time alongside Danny Lore. Released on January 26, 2022 (four months before season 4 premiered), it serves as an interquel between when Erica was first given the D&D books by Dustin and Lucas at the end of season 3, and when she substitutes for Lucas at Hellfire Club in the season 4 premiere. The graphic novel chronicles one of her D&D campaigns with her friends (Kelly, Tanya, and April). Compared to comics/graphic novels like Kamchatka or Into the Fire which were dark and intense, this one is light-hearted, which is welcoming. This story focuses on Erica's personal development, both in how she plays D&D, and as a person.
Tumblr media
When it comes to discussing character development in the series, most of the fan discourse usually centers around Steve's growth and how he's evolved since the show began. While I 100% agree that he has, and that it's one of the best aspects of the show, there are times fans tend to overlook other characters who have changed as well. Two examples that come to mind are Lucas and Erica. I will cover Lucas's development when I review Lucas on the Line, but for this discussion, I'm focusing exclusively on Erica.
Erica's growth has been interesting, and as she's evolved as a character, so has my perception of her. When she was introduced in season 2, I didn't care much for her. IMO, she came off as little more than a bratty younger sister who made disdainful remarks about Lucas and his friends, and at one point (unintentionally) acted as a hindrance when Dustin was trying to get in contact with Lucas. I know there are fans who loved her snark, but I found it mean-spirited and off-putting. I get she was 9-10 years old at the time, and I know some kids tend to act like this at that age, but it doesn't make it any more pleasant to deal with. It also doesn't help she didn't have much to do with the main plot, so I didn't see a reason at the time to get invested in her.
Season 3 was different. I know fan opinions about Erica were mixed at the time, but in spite of that, I liked her better in season 3 for two reasons: 1.) From a narrative perspective, she actually had a point for being there, namely in helping Steve, Robin, and Dustin infiltrate the Russian base underneath Starcourt Mall, and later aiding Dustin in rescuing a drugged Robin and Steve. 2.) This was the season Erica's character development started to kick in. Her reasons for getting involved were initially about "Free Ice Cream for Life," but once things go horribly wrong and she's informed about what's really going on, she finally realizes the danger everyone is in and starts taking the situation a lot more seriously. On top of that, after her talk with Dustin about how she's secretly a nerd, she begins embracing that aspect of herself rather than snidely putting it down like she's done in the past.
Season 4 is where I liked Erica the most. The sequence of her helping to win Eddie's D&D campaign was fun, and it's noteworthy she didn't have to be bribed by Mike and Dustin either. She aided them because she loves the game and she see herself as Dustin's friend. As she tells Jason later when he's asking about Dustin: "Know him? I've bled with him." She still retains her snark, but it's more directed towards people who actually deserve it: Like when Eddie acts condescending towards her initially when she shows up at Hellfire Club, or even some of the barbs she throws Jason's way. This exchange especially is golden:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I love how a.) Erica clearly likes Max and approves of her relationship with Lucas, and b.) Even if she is being snarky here, she's not disapproving of the idea of Lucas going out with guys, but thinks Lucas could do so much better than Jason. 😂
Jokes aside though, I also appreciate how, in an entire room full of adults who were silent and complicit during Jason's speech at the town hall, she is the only one who wasn't afraid to stand up to Jason and call bullshit at his attempts to paint the Hellfire Club as a Satanic cult responsible for every bad thing happening in Hawkins. She knew this was going to turn into a lynch mob that would target her brother and his friends, and she was having none of it.
Initially, she does throw shade at Lucas and Dustin when they're caught by the police and lie about what they're doing, but when she's informed about what's actually going on, she willingly drops everything to help them escape (and judging by her unsurprised look at Lucas's explanation, she probably already figured out the recent deaths, combined with Lucas and Dustin's suspicious behavior, had something to do with the Upside Down). She later does everything she can to stop Vecna along with the rest of the group, and helped save Max's life (following El restarting her heart) by getting emergency respondents there to stabilize Max's condition before it got worse.
Adding on to this, I love how season 4 subtly shows Erica caring about Lucas without the constant snide jabs. Like Erica coming to all of Lucas's basketball games on her own accord (minus the one she missed for Hellfire Club). Or staying in the hospital with Lucas while Max recovers. Or even rushing to Lucas's aid after overpowering Andy. Lucas on the Line also expands on her protective side towards Lucas, such as getting angry when Lucas gets called a racist slur by someone on the basketball team, or even being worried for Lucas when he's made the target of a bomb threat at school.
In Stranger Things tradition, Erica is someone who appears one way on the surface, but has a lot more hidden depths to her character.
This brings me to the interquel Erica The Great: Much like the short story "Erica's Quest," Erica is still developing her skills as a D&D player at this time, and is looking for people to play with her. The story kicks off when her mom suggests inviting her friends to do a campaign despite their unfamiliarity with D&D.
Tumblr media
Her friends eventually agree, but problems arise when they have a hard time understanding how the game is played. Erica doesn't help by being impatient and dismissive when they question things. There's also the fact Erica is more interested initially in getting the glory and credit for herself rather than genuinely wanting to work with her friends, resulting in them feeling inconvenienced.
Tumblr media
Naturally, this pisses Tanya off, and she leaves to get her mom's bird (a parakeet) to show off to April and Kelly as a way of one-upping Erica. A fight breaks out between them over this, resulting in the parakeet getting loose and flying next door to the house of Erica's neighbor, Miss Dorothy.
Tumblr media
Because she knows Tanya will get in trouble with her mother for losing the bird, Erica agrees to get it back for her, all the while dealing with Miss Dorothy's dog and a bunch of other obstacles.
If you've followed along to this point, you can already guess what kind of story this is, and how it plays out: Main character starts out selfish and self-centered. Catastrophe occurs, forcing them to work with others to solve the problem. Through trial and error, they eventually learn the value of teamwork, acknowledge their faults, and grow as a person.
Tumblr media
While the plot itself is formulaic, it works here for Erica in bridging parts of her character development. Not only is she learning to be a better player and Dungeon Master, but she's also learning to be a better friend to those around her. She was already beginning to show signs of this towards the end of season 3, and season 4 acts as the culmination of that. This graphic novel shows the big leap forward for her. She's starting to shed her "It's All About Me" attitude while also taking responsibility and learning that it's okay to rely on others for assistance instead of doing everything on your own.
On top of that, regardless of whether or not this was intentional from the writers, I like how the graphic novel serves as a nice deconstruction of the "Mary Sue/Author's Self-Insert" archetypes and how obnoxious they are. The character Erica creates and uses in D&D initially resembles that: She's presented as perfect in the game with no meaningful flaws she has to work through. She's naturally great at everything she does, and both the game's narration and her "companions" are just there to prop her up. Rather than making her look awesome, it just makes her character an uninteresting scene-stealer. This contrasts hard with Erica outside of the game where she's called out for her flaws, works through them, strengthens her friendship with the other girls as a result, and likely takes what she's learned and applies it to the game to make "Erica The Great" a better written and more compelling character. By the end, she's even giving her friends the chance to add their own spin to their D&D campaign because she recognizes it's important for them to try out their fun ideas.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And I get that through all of this, Erica's still a kid who's around 10-11 years old at this time, and that certain levels of being self-centered are expected. I even get creating fantasy worlds at that age where you're the main character of your story, who does everything perfectly and is constantly hailed for your amazing accomplishments. I did the same thing myself when I was growing up, so I recognize I'm not in a position to judge others on that account. However, in the context of this story, it's still nice seeing that growth from Erica.
Something else that's fun is how the quest to get the parakeet back is viewed through Erica's imagination as a D&D adventure. From Erica's perspective, the parakeet is a fiery Phoenix, Miss Dorothy is a mysterious witch, and her dog is a Cerberus. You can tell the artists had a lot of fun with these scenes:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I also love the small detail of Erica starting her D&D Campaign at "Starcourt Tavern," which is fittingly symbolic for the place where her story and first encounter with elements from the Upside Down began:
Tumblr media
One tiny question I have though: Where is Tina in all of this? She's been repeatedly name-dropped by Erica and Lucas in seasons 3 and 4, and yet she hasn't made any appearance on the show or in this graphic novel. We get Kelly, Tanya, and April, but we don't get Tina.
Tumblr media
Oh well! 🤷
On a final note, in regards to where they take Erica's story in season 5, I'm wondering if she and Lucas will spend most of their time together for the last season as they deal with Vecna's impending invasion. The ominous ending for season 4 certainly suggests that:
Tumblr media
Since Erica's also in the hospital with Max at this time, I wonder if she might even have a role in resuscitating Max from her current coma.
Additionally, I also believe that since the comics and season 4 placed a heavy emphasis on Erica's skills and knowledge as a D&D player, she may end up employing them in a way that brings Vecna's downfall in the final season. There's even an argument to be had that the scene of Erica in "The Hellfire Club" rolling a 20 for the team and defeating the D&D version of Vecna is foreshadowing that she'll have an important role to play in the Party's fight against Vecna.
Overall, a fun graphic novel that does a great job enhancing Erica's continuing character development. Check it out when (and if) you get the chance!

Hi!! For the artist asks, 2, 5, and 8?
Hi!! Thank you for the ask <3
2. 5 favourites of your own work?
In no particular order: This little animation I collaborated with @/swordandspectacles on last year
This one, which was a gift for @/swordsandspectacles!
This drawing of me and @/cityscapeinview's Lavellens because I really liked drawing the background
This gift I did for @/wubbelwubbwubb as part of the Zombies, Run fan Secret Santa (implies some spoilers for the end of S2, if you're a fan)
and this one of my OC Ren!
5. Anything you haven’t drawn yet but want to?
I really want to draw the cars in The Wayhaven Chronicles >:|a I like cars, and I really want to practice drawing cars because I think they're a fun challenge and valuable to master.
8. What do you like most about your own work?
Honestly I just really like how it looks! It makes me happy to work on it, and I'm so often satisfied with what I've done. It's really fun to be halfway through something, take a step back to look at it, go 'this looks SO cool' and keep going. It's satisfying to see the effort I put into it turn into something beautiful.

actually, i'll go ahead and chronicle my wwdits finale thoughts real quick! spoilers below.
i loved the resolution of guillermo's story because i've always felt like the only way it could go is him staying human -- i have never wanted him to be a vampire, personally -- so i feel like him choosing to be human and having that epiphany was so moving. when he was talking about the guy picking out the shampoo at cvs ... :'( a rare moment where this show made me want to cry instead of laugh! just beautifully acted from harvey.
also, nandor knowing guillermo well enough to know he wouldn't actually want to be a vampire!!!!!! AAAAAH!
because it's more like guillermo was actually searching for his queer found family! and now he has them! even if he is a human and they're vampires! that's not what matters anymore! everyone visiting him at the hotel when he was "in hiding"! so dear!
all the nandermo moments were so lovely and absolutely rich with chemistry and i'm simply in my feelings about them.
i also really liked how all the plot twists were kinda predicted online ahead of time, because it's just so nice to watch a show that foreshadows and then follows through instead of trying to trick the audience and be ~unpredictable~ and ~subversive~ at all costs.
i love the guide, she's so adorable! and sometimes you just gotta take matters into your own hands when you're being iced out of the friend group!
i also loved seeing the necromancer and topher again. TOPHERRRR!!!! and i'm glad derek got to find some zombie friends! <3
the one thing i wanted from this season that we didn't get was more laszlo/nadja time, just because that's what i always want. more laszlo/nadja storylines!!! but i really loved their commitment to matching hair all season.
i'm so sorry to patton oswalt, but at least he died in service to nandermo. i hope that can be a comfort.

fanfic writer emoji ask: ✍ 🎢 👀
✍ Do you have a beta reader?
For a while, I did, and they were and are great (we have not had a falling out! We are still friends!), but real life kind of got in the way for both of us, and that's fine. Sometimes, I do miss having someone look over my stuff so that I know I don't sound insane, but it's fine.
🎢 Which of your fics would you call your wildest ride?
I feel like "wildest ride" could mean so many different things. Like, content wise, just on the basis of it existing? ABSOLUTELY A Soft October Night, mainly because I don't think I'd ever gone as far as "Incest Murder Threesome" before. (I will make no promises that I won't do so AGAIN, but it definitely is a shocker from the usual.)
Though this is ALSO from the same creative team that brought you "Romeo has sex with the personification of Death on a crucifix" and "Ronan and Lazare have sex on a printing press" (which seems MUCH tamer compared to the other two), so, really, you can pick your poison.
As far as plot? Either The Midnight Mass or Pour la Peine, depending on if you think "Ronan discovers his old friends are zombies that want to kill him" or "The Thing that happens in Pour la Peine that changes the whole plot" is more shocking. (Personally, I am still REALLY proud of that twist in PLP, since I'd sat on that for years.)
If you're talking about in a crackficky sense? ...I mean. Goosefic. Goosefic. The fic that solidified my reputation in the 1789 fandom. If I say so myself, every single fic I've listed before that has some larger motivation for why it's Like That. Goosefic was just me reading a writing prompt and thinking "I want Lazare to get chased by a pissed off goose." And it is beautiful.
👀 Tell me about an up and coming wip please!
I don't think it's a SECRET I'm working on writing out my playthrough of BG3, or at least. Key parts of it. (I am NOT. Novelizing. An 125 hour playthrough. Yet.) I have about 11k words into it at the moment, but I'm not publishing a word of it until it's in a place where I know I can very likely finish it, or at least make a dent. We are NOT doing that thing where I just publish one chapter, hit a major bout of writer's block, and can't go through with it. (I can't make any promises for AFTER one chapter.)
Tumblr media
It deals, primarily, with Kitrye's Happy Fun Times in the game, her ongoing verbal game of cat and mouse with Raphael, her relationship with her sister, and her relationship with her culture, as well as her overall development during the course of the game. (I don't really consider it a spoiler, given I put it in an actual gifset, that Kitrye breaks her oath as a paladin at one point -- there is a LOT dedicated to the circumstances around that and how it changes the game, even though that's a late development.) A spoiler that literally only you and a couple of people will understand and so I can give without any worry is:
Tumblr media
"Ich will dich nicht, ich brauch' dich nicht. GEEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH."
(Honestly, thus far, it's looking like how I'm writing out every act is taking inspiration from something else. Like, if Pour la Peine and its related stories drew a lot of inspiration from the Evilious Chronicles, I would say that the third act in particular is very, very Elisabeth tinted if you know where to look; second act is looking to have at least one scene inspired by a very memorable moment from one of the branches of the Mabinogi; and the first act, which is still the roughest, is a little bit more up in the air, with all of them borrowing at least a LITTLE bit from The Last Trial.)
Of course. It would be much easier to work on it. IF I HAD MY GAMING PC THAT COULD RUN THE GAME SO I COULD DOUBLE CHECK MY FILES. MY CUSTOM MADE GAMING PC THAT I CHOSE EVERY SINGLE PART FOR SO THAT IT COULD BE A MONSTER AT RUNNING GAMES.
(I'm cool, I'm chill, I'm fine.)
Tumblr media
Anyway, have the Symryvvin girls, out of context. (Malla 🤝 Raphael: Being in an eternal state of Done.)

i just wanna share that i read about one of the resident evil side games today and there's this girl who's blood is flammable??? like, she has this disease, so she gets treated with the t-virus, and for some reason - her blood - it just - becomes??? flammable????? i had to look it it up and no, virus' don't just explode when they're exposed to oxygen. someone at capcom must have been huffing nitrous though because that's just a straight up super power. That's like some off brand x man shit. This girl [blood] is on fire. And we just kinda... forgot about her? Like, I get that darkside chronicle ain't exactly a main title but cmon. It's got operation javier in it! It's got krauser going over to the dark side of the force! And A GIRL WITH FLAMMABLE BLOOD. I guess technically most of the RE zombies are weirdly flammable. That's fine. But this is an otherwise human infected. No other symptoms. Just if she gets a cut it BURSTS INTO FLAME. So I watched a video of the fight where this happens. And yeah, she just flings her blood at a giant monster. When her blood hits it just explodes. Her blood is literally a projectile weapon. And in the end she [spoilers i guess?] glows with light for some reason and turns into ash. She just floats away on the wind. Never once do we revisit this? Never once did someone consider, I dunno, making grenades out of vials of this girls blood? it's technically a renewable resource. I just find it astonishing that this is such a peculiar case. We don't get a lot of fire-breathing monsters in RE. Sometimes we get one that explodes cause of bombs or gas or something. But this is so far out of left field and is so... difficult to justify. It very much takes an artistic license with biology. But to hell with that, what if she survived? What if she lived and we got a weird side game? A story about the girl with a bio-suit that spends life points to blow stuff up. On the one hand, it's definitely more fantastical than some of RE's latest entries. On the other, *flammable blood* though.

If Rafal Mistral met Queen Levana
I think that if they met, they would be best friends. Especially the original series versions of themselves. Heck, if they weren't from different stories and universes Levana could have been Rafal's queen.  (spoilers ahead for both series)
Both had problems with their siblings. Levana hated her sister Channary and Channary was the one who manipulated 6 year old Levana to burn the left side of her body. Channary also was known to go after the wrong men or always be in love with people in a not so serious way.
With Rafal, hopefully Rhian isn't such a psycho as Channary. But Rafal is annoyed constantly with Rhian's crushes and, well, he kills him. he thinks he's the better twin, like how Levana thinks she would be a better queen than Channary, but the difference is that Rafal loved Rhian, while Levana hated her sister.
Levana has fantasies of her niece dying and Rafal did imagine Rhian and James dead. (I actually like Rafal but I hate Levana, just because she is much worse.)
Both have horrific/ugly versions of themselves. For Levana it's when she looks at a mirror and her glamour disappears and Rafal when Sophie destroys the ring.
Both are tyrannical people who use torture and manipulation to get what they want. They are sad to kill, but all they want is power (though I think Rafal is more toned down than Levana in this regard, because Levana, you know, torched a toddler. I don't think even Rafal would do this if he did have a nephew.) Levana uses Emperor Kai for power and to get control of Earth and has no problem disposing of him. She kills Evret, her husband, to be free to marry for ambitions, even though she "loved" him.  She manipulates Evret to love her and forces him to marry her. She even wears his dead wife's face. Rafal loves Rhian but kills him for his own gain. He may have genuinely loved Sophie, but he did manipulate her a lot to accept the ring and stay with him, mentioning how he was the one, etc. Luckily, Sophie had more of a choice than Evret did. Rafal tries to copy Tedros for Sophie, so he'd totally agree with Levana about using Evret's dead wife's face. He disposes of Evelyn Sader when she fulfills her purpose.
Levana was obsessed with getting Earth, all for Luna. Rafal wanted Evil to win and wanted Gavaldon. Both do horrible things to get power and control. Levana uses letumosis and her wolf man army and Rafal has his zombie army and Sophie. Both also do everything for "love." Levana says (originally it was her sister):" Love is a conquest, Love is a war. Here is what I think of love." Rafal is literally a living example of how to live out this saying. (look at what happened with Rhian, Sophie, etc) Both were hurt in some way and are desperate to be loved, and you can see they are people who are lonely and have no friends in their backstories, which is why they are so.. insane. Both are people I wouldn't want to piss off, to be honest.
Both cover their faces, at least during certain parts of the story.
Also, Rafal would probably use a glamour. As who, or what I don't know. (He did shapeshift as other people.) And probably a slight glamour because he's already attractive and ethereal and all that but who knows-- (in the Lunar Chronicles his appearance would probably thought of as glamour made so..)
I originally posted this on my Wattpad account.
Okay so this is embarrassing and maybe just me overthinking and getting distracted when I should be doing something else.
I will crawl into a hole now. I know this is really dumb.

Thoughts on RE4 and Code Veronica Remakes
Notice: This contains spoilers for many of the entries in the Resident Evil series including but not limited to, the video games especially Code Veronica/Code Veronica X, Resident Evil 2/ RE2 remake, RE4 and possibly RE4 remake, Dark Side Chronicles, Umbrella Chronicles, and RE Umbrella Corps, as well as the movie Welcome to Raccoon City.
Summery: This is simply me, as a Code Veronica fan, writing out my thoughts on why Capcom probably and understandably made a remake of RE4 before CV, and why it might be quite a while before we get a CV remake at all. (Also note: while I did proof read this I am also dyslexic, so there’s a good chance that there are still spelling/writing mistakes I missed.)
There are a list of people (myself included) that while excited for the Resident Evil 4 remake news also had one, burning question, “Why was this made before a Code Veronica remake?” It certainly is a good question because releasing them out of chronological and original game release order could lead to confusion story-wise. Another reason that this was confusing to me, was the fact that there is a direct reference to the opening events of Code Veronica in the RE2 remake with the note that Chris leaves for Barry in the STARS office for Clair to find and use to trace the the European branch of Umbrella. The more I thought over it though, the more reasons that popped up that would make it understandable why Capcom might have decided to release RE4 before they released Code Veronica, and I decided to write them down as a way to get the thought to stop chewing on my brain.
1. Monetary and Popularity Reasons
One of, if not the main reason for this release order, is probably because the simple fact that Resident Evil 4 is one of the most popular games in the series. Now that Capcom knows that their consumers are once more invested with the Resident Evil games, but also have had mostly positive reception to the remakes as a whole, they would certainly want to bring back one of their most beloved games in what is seemingly the peak of this new popularity. Add to it the fact that the general look and aesthetics of their newest main numbered game, RE VIII : Village, has a very reminiscent feeling to that of RE 4, then you have a good case for remaking RE4 first. This could broaden the sales as people who have only recently been introduced to the series through Village, might be more inclined to buy another one of the games if it looked very similar to the one that they are used to.
2. Introduction to characters
Or, more specifically the introduction of the character of Albert Wesker. If there is going to be a remake of Code Veronica, it most likely is going to have all of the content from the special edition version, Code Veronica X. This includes extra plot lines that have Albert Wesker in them. Seeing as Wesker has not been in any of the main Resident Evil games since RE 5, and has not shown up in any of the remakes at all, other than there being a phone call from HUNK to what some of the original games say are him, it is understandable that the teams working on the remakes wouldn’t want to make the first game that he shows up in one where he’s basically a cameo character.
It would make things confusing for people that have just recently entered the Resident Evil games through the modern and remake games as the only reference to him at all are how in the RE3 remake Jill has a nightmare of the mansion incident, which doesn’t show anything, especially not the other members of the STARS team, as well as a breakneck explication of her being in STARS that doesn’t even cover that Brad was in the group as well as he was killed in a different way from the original game(a horde of zombies rather than being hunted down by Nemesis because of his status as a STARS member), and the slight nod to the character of Wesker with one of the most powerful guns in RE VII being named, “Albert.” I feel like the team working on the Resident Evil games at the moment most likely want to show him first in something like a RE 1 remake, but seeing as there already is one, even if it’s twenty years old(that fact just killed me), they might not be too fast to do another remake of it.
3. Alfred Ashford
Here’s the short version
Look, I went a little overboard and turned this into its own whole essay type thing over here.
Basically, due to the limited understanding and general biases from when the original game was made, Alfred’s character has some questionable writing in the departments of mental illness and queer representation. If they were wanting to make a remaking in 2022, they are going to have to rewrite some things about him. And, I think one of the last things that they want is the queer community upset with them because they handled one of the only blatantly queer coded characters from the original series flippantly. So, they are most likely taking their time with the writing for that remake.
Conclusion
After all of that however, there is still hope that there will be a remake and that hopefully it isn’t too far away. As mentioned, one of the reasons that they might be waiting is to be able to introduce Wesker to new fans as you sort of need to have a basic understanding of him for his parts in CV. There could be the dramatic reveal at the end of the RE4 remake like there was in the original, and that could open the way for the other games that he’s in to start being remade as well, CV included. Also, there might be a reason for Capcom to have given Dead by Daylight permission to use his character, as Jill and Nemesis were added to that game to create hype for the RE3 remake. So, something similar might be happening with Wesker.
There’s also the fact that Capcom has not entirely abandoned the Ashford twins, as they let the writers of the movie Welcome to Raccoon City give them a cameo via the film reel of them with the insects. Now, seeing as that movie was a re-imagining of the RE universe as a whole, they might play a slightly different roll than what they did in the original game. But, they were still important enough to mention.
Over all, it’s totally understandable that they would want to remake Resident Evil 4 before Code Veronica. And, I’m mostly alright with it as long as we do get a Code Veronica remake at some point.

The Ming Storm By Yan Leishang
The Ming storm is an amazing story that follows the legendary assassin Shoa Jun, but the book's greatest downfall is its place in continuity which I feel can be debated as the sequel is a new story and the major theme of this book is also alluded to in Valhalla. But before I get into the review I will be adding a spoiler warning, as I will be discussing a lot of the major themes present.
The biggest question I had going into this book was why is it not canon? And the best way to explain that is a quote by my good friend Michael
"Assassin's Creed The Ming Storm tells an alternative version of the AC China game, using Kung-Fu, philosophy, and mysticism to provide a deeper look at the Chinese Assassin in a story written for an Eastern audience."
With this being an alternative story to chronicles China, you will find some similarities in events, as the story does follow Shao Jun's return to China after fleeing to europe, and being taught by Ezio Auditorie, and her mission to take down the 8 tigers which are essentially the templars of the story. But that's where the similarities stop as the story's main central theme is about the tigers getting the precursor box that Ezio entrusted on Shao Jun, and using it to create Yuxia. Know Yuxia are essentially demons or zombies something that would seem far fetched and outside assassin's creed if it wasn't for the isu factory the story uses in the final chapters, and Odyssey and Valhalla both allude to isu creating zombies or hybrids. So it's a unique idea that does deserve a place in continuity as it'll help uncover the myth vial of the forgotten saga in valhalla.
Away from the story and theme there is something else that shines in this book, something that is usually reserved for the games, and that's the history description. A lot of the time in the story the pace slows down to explain some backstory to the history or events that are vital, and this is something we normally only see in database entries. Most assassin creed novels write as if they were there in that time period and use world building to flesh it out. Which is a great detail but there's something more captivating about the story slowing down to fully explain events and history. And alongside the historical immersion I was fully engrossed in the authors description of kung-fu and how it was integrated Into the combat, most assassin's creed combat is very much sword and shield and stealth, so it's good to read about a new style of combat and one that feels accurate for the character.
With the added depth of philosophy that challenges how we see assassins and templars this story is one that I would highly recommend for all fans but it's also a book that I wish ubisoft would make canon as there's a lot of philosophy and themes in this book that should be fully explored in new ways.

Synopsis: Taking place before and during seasons 1-3, this comic chronicles the origins of The Party, their discovery of D&D, how the game impacted their lives, and how their shared love for fantasy and adventure allowed them to bond.
Observations:
Fantasy has always been appealing to me since I was a kid: The idea of creating worlds with your own characters, creatures, mythology, and story. The idea of universes out there more extraordinary and unique compared to the one we live in. The idea your imagination can bring some semblance of peace and security to your life. I know this and have lived through it. Even 27 years later, despite becoming more cynical and jaded through trauma and bitter experiences, I will always understand those who use fantasy to confront the harshness of the real world. It's why Mike's words hit home for me when he's telling the bookstore owner about why he's interested in D&D and wants to spend money on it:
Tumblr media
"It really is like a war. We just want to fight on our own terms." Isn't that how we all feel at times? Some days, you're trying to survive the chaos of life, while other days involve you making choices between what is right and what is easy. Some days, everything is a shit-show, and you're trying to find something to keep you motivated. Some days, you have to deal with truly vile people and accept that they exist whether you like it or not. We all fight battles of some kind. We all have different ways of coping with how cold and indifferent reality can be. We all crave some sense of control in our lives.
For Mike and his friends, D&D provided that. Not only did it allow them to process their world easier, but it also gave them a sense of liberation from how oppressive the (as Eddie would put it) "forced conformity" of their society is. It's their world, and it's where they are the masters of their own destinies.
Tumblr media
Now I'll admit I never really got into D&D. Both my brother and my college roommates tried to rope me into the game, and at the time I didn't have the patience for it. However, I do understand its appeal, and respect how it's a game for both kids and adults that forms friendships and can be a fun, shared experience for everyone. Stranger Things and Dungeons & Dragons is not only a story of how D&D influenced each member of the Party, but also a love letter to both the show and the game itself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The artwork for this comic is incredible and some of the best I've seen so far. I love the drawings of the various D&D campaigns and the creative designs for the creatures the group encounters during their travels.
I also love how each campaign either draws upon the Party's experiences from school and their daily lives, or from the trauma they've endured since their encounters with the horrors of the Upside Down:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
That last part is significant because at one point in the comic, Mike seriously questions whether or not D&D has any real meaning for him or his friends following his first meeting with the Demogorgon and the revelation that monsters exist:
Tumblr media
Just like in the short story "The Game Master," Nancy is the one who comforts Mike during his crisis. She helps him realize that even though things can't go back to the way they were after everything that's happened, he still has his friends, and what made D&D valuable to them in the first place (aside from it being a means of dealing with the world around them) is that it brought and kept them together as companions.
Tumblr media
Nancy recognizes the value D&D has to Mike. It's why she dressed up as an Elf for his Elder Tree Campaign all those years ago, and it's why she still encourages him despite his doubts.
Tumblr media
(Side Note: I've always enjoyed the sibling dynamic Nancy and Mike have, and I'm praying season 5 includes more interactions between the two of them).
Speaking of which, this comic does a great job cementing the importance of D&D to Mike and Will's relationship. Mike is the one who introduced Will to D&D and even coined the nickname "Will the Wise" for him:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On top of that, in a deeply heartwarming moment, Mike goes out of his way to craft a specific campaign for Will following Will's rescue from the Upside Down. He knows Will is struggling and scared due to what happened to him, and works to help Will feel better and regain his confidence by giving him the opportunity to be a hero again. As Mike explains to Nancy:
Tumblr media
This even extends to Mike handing over the role of Dungeon Master to Will by the time Max and El join The Party:
Tumblr media
I know it's pretty common these days in the fandom to bash Mike for being insensitive and oblivious, but moments like these demonstrate he is capable of putting thought and effort into helping and encouraging his friends and loved ones. A big reason Will is passionate about D&D is because Mike inspired Will to embrace his talent and imagination. Will isn't likely to ever forget that.
Another aspect I enjoyed was getting to see how Mike, Will, and Lucas met Dustin. Back in season 1, Dustin remarks that he didn't become friends with them until around 4th grade, and the comic elaborates more on the circumstances of their meeting:
Tumblr media
Turns out D&D appealed to Dustin's love for math and probabilities. There's also how he expressed interest in the game and didn't belittle it like Mike's other classmates did. Dustin is a curious person after all, and is more interested in figuring out how something works instead of dismissing it like other people do when they can't understand it.
Finally, there's Lucas's interest in D&D. At the beginning of the comic, when he and Mike are hiding from Troy and James, they go into a bookstore where they see the owner has created a display of The Battle of Waterloo, which is something that impresses Lucas:
Tumblr media
There is the possibility I'm reading too much into this, but Lucas's comment about his dad's service in Vietnam and his refusal to talk about it makes me wonder if Lucas's interest in D&D isn't just because of the fantasy-adventure elements, but because it's his way of trying to understand what his dad went through during the war. The game has those battles between good and evil, as well as teaching people about making tough choices and relying on your companions when the going gets tough. Lucas is smart enough to piece things together, and even if his dad was reluctant to talk about Vietnam, he may have figured out aspects of that war based on what he was taught in school and whatever small details he could have picked up from his family.
Mike talks about how D&D for him is about fighting a war on his own terms, and the same goes for Lucas.
But it goes beyond that: D&D gave the boys memories to cherish, and the means to not feel alone while growing up:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Something else I want to discuss are the dates presented in the comic:
I don't know what information (if any) that Jody Houser or Dark Horse Comics were given about season 4 when this comic was written (which came out in late 2020/early 2021), but I find it to be a pretty big coincidence that the date Mike and Lucas discover D&D for the first time is on September 8th, 1980, which is exactly one year after the Massacre at Hawkins Lab took place and El banished Henry/One/Vecna to the Upside Down.
We also find out Mike's birthday is on April 7th, 1971. Granted, this is what the comic presents as his birthday, so I don't know if it's his actual birthday on the show. Regardless, it's still a cool detail.
Tumblr media
And this was the gift Mike's friends gave him on his 10th birthday:
Tumblr media
Finally, there's the last D&D campaign the Party plays in 1985 before El and Will leave Hawkins for Lenora. On the surface, there are callbacks to season 2, with Will's character in the game getting taken over by an evil entity (similar to how he was possessed by the Mind Flayer) and the Party having to work together to save him:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The big difference is while Will was able to be rescued in season 2, his character dies tragically in the game:
Tumblr media
Again, I'm not saying the comic creators have any foreknowledge of what's going to occur in the final season, but I've been firm in believing that one or more main characters will end up dead before season 5 is over. I did a post a while back speculating that Mike was marked for death (and giving my reasoning for why), but I also wonder if it could also be Will, especially because of Vecna's creepy interest in him. There's a connection between the two of them the show hasn't fully explained yet, and (as I talked about in my review of Stranger Things The Other Side), I've seen fans on social media note the parallels between Vecna and Will and speculate on the idea of Will possibly turning evil in the last season. I'm skeptical of that happening (mostly because of the backlash the Duffer Brothers would face for it), but I do question what Will's fate will be in the final season. For what it's worth, Ross Duffer mentioned in an interview that Will's arc in season 5 will tie the whole series together, so make of that what you're able to.
There's also the final battle:
Tumblr media
I remember the vision Vecna shows Nancy in season 4: A dark cloud spreading over Hawkins. Downtown on fire. Dead soldiers. A creature with a giant gaping mouth. An army of monsters invading. The death of her family (including Mike). Most of this is likely foreshadowing for what's to come. Just like the Party faces down an army of demons in their final game, they will also be facing down Vecna's army of monsters in the final season.
But in spite of how bad circumstances get, the one thing I trust is the Party will still have each other to rely on. I will be sad to see them all of them go once the show is over.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Overall, a solid comic and one of my personal favorites. I highly recommend it.

Whatever It Takes
Fate Part 2
Series Masterlist
Leon Kennedy x fem!reader
Word Count: 3.9k
Warnings: violence, re2 spoilers, guns, blood, ‘death’,
Author’s Note: Literally, as much as I love resident evil 2 I am so excited for resident evil 4 lmao. Just a reminder that I know Leon’s in darkside chronicles but I haven’t played that quite yet so when I do, I will go back and do a part 2.5 if I have to! Anyway, I hope you enjoy this part as much as I did!
Summary: You follow Ada Wong and eventually make it out of Raccoon City with Leon.
I don’t own these characters. They belong to author/director/creator
I use some dialogue directly from the game so it may sound familiar
(not my gif)

Ada listened to the tape intently. You and Leon shared a glance as she did so, unsure if you should actually be giving her the information. But it didn’t seem like much to you. Ada hadn’t failed you so far.
“Is that the intel you needed?” you asked.
“Unfortunately no. Ben didn’t come through,” she explained, annoyed.
“Well what exactly are you looking for?” Leon questioned.
“More info on the people responsible for this mess,” she said evenly. You admired her. She seemed to have it together, even here in the middle of this mess. You could probably watch her fight people for hours and not get bored. The heels were a fashion choice but it didn’t look to be bothering her in the slightest.
“What about you two? Trying to save the world with love?” You scoffed and Leon scratched the back of his neck.
“We’re trying to bring help to the police station,” you said. “And we aren’t in love.”
“Could’ve fooled me. I think it adds a bit of pizazz to the situation,” she said, kneeling in front of a door to one of the shops. She worked at the lock of the gun shop.
“I’m gonna look for ammo,” you said, stepping inside. Leon nodded.
“I’ll scout the way.” He jogged forward toward the door out. Ada lingered, waiting for him to do the job she didn’t want to do. She turned to you.
“Known each other long?”
“We just met today actually,” you admitted, surveying the shelves. There were a couple lone bullets that you pocketed. You offered some to her but she shook her head. “Have you been able to find Annette?”
“Still looking,” she admitted.
“If I run into her, I’ll point her your way. What did she do?” She scoffed.
“What didn’t she do?”
“Don’t move!” You and Ada heard the sound of a man that wasn’t Leon and both of you took out your gun. You walked around the corner and saw a man pointing a shotgun at Leon.
“I’m just passing through. I’m gonna ask you to lower your weapon.” Police talk. If you weren’t all in danger of the man with the gun then you would have smiled. He would have been a good officer.
“Like hell you are! You’re gonna turn around and come back the way you came!” You took the safety off on your gun.
“I think your daughter needs help sir,” Leon said. You turned the corner and lifted it to him. Ada watched you curiously. You clearly weren’t trained with a gun. She figured you would stay back and let her go forward to help Leon but you jumped forward before she was able to.
Ah emotions, Ada thought. They always fail us. How predictable.
“Drop your gun,” you said, trying to make your voice sound hard. Ada came out from behind you and pointed her gun at the little girl but the man jumped in front of Ada’s gun.
“No!”
“We have to terminate her before she turns,” Ada said.
“Terminate? That’s my fucking daughter!” he said. You looked at the little girl behind him. She looked like she was already a zombie. Leon lowered his gun.
“Ada...just let them be,” he said. You looked to him. But you understood. Why not just kill the little girl, put her out of her misery? Leon gave you a look and you lowered your gun slowly. Ada didn't listen that quickly. She finally lowered her gun and the man nodded, turning back to his daughter.
“I told you to stay inside,” he whispered as he shut the door behind him and her.
“You know, it’s one thing to keep the truth from us but why him?” Leon asked. He had an anger in his voice you hadn’t heard from him yet. “I want to find out whatever’s happening here. And stop whoever’s behind it,” he said. “Helping people like them - that’s why I joined the force.” Ada looked hard at Leon.
“My mission is to take down Umbrella's entire operation. We may not make it out,” she explained.
“Whatever it takes to save this city - count me in,” Leon said. He looked to you. “Listen, I understand if you just want to find Claire and leave. When we see her next, the two of you can go and leave this damn city. If I see Chris I can send him your way.” You looked over at Ada. She had that neutral look on her face. You couldn’t get over how brave she was. How brave Leon was. You were scared shitless. You didn’t want to be here anymore, you wanted out of Racoon City and out of this whole mess.
But you looked into Leon’s eyes and knew what you had to do.
“Leon, I'm not leaving you. Someone has to be here to save you,” you said lightly. He had put up a good front but both you and Ada could see the sigh of relief he released when you said that.
“Alright you two. Let’s move,” Ada said. She was happy to have you there. You could do the things she didn’t want to. “Have you heard of the Umbrella Corporation?”
====
You, Leon and Ada had been walking for what seemed like ages. You had run into reptiles and more zombies on your search for Annette which was starting to make you regret your decision to come along with them. You wondered where Claire was. You hoped she was fairing better than you.
Ada had explained it all to you, at least most of the things she knew. Umbrella, how they sold the virus that made bioweapons. All this, happening right under everyone's nose. It made you sick.
Leon opened the next door in front of both of you, acting like you couldn’t handle yourselves. On the other side was finally another person. Blonde, wearing a lab coat. You guessed this was Annette.
“Identify yourself!” Leon said. Police officer Kennedy.
“Annette Birkin,” Ada said. You were all pointing your guns at her.
“She’s who we’re looking for?” Leon asked.
“Looks like the description Ada gave,” you said.
“Not much time,” Annette muttered. “Need to dispose of it.”
“We’re here for the G-Virus,” Ada said.
“That’s not going to happen,” Annette promised.
“I’m warning you doctor!” Ada said.
“Oh yeah?” You didn’t like the sound of that. Annette took something out of her pocket and tossed it on the dead body she had been kneeling beside. It lit on fire.
“Stop!” Ada yelled, running after her. Gunshots rang out and you quickly hid behind the wall as Leon jumped forward, blocking Ada with himself. They both fell over. “Wasn’t expecting that from a scientist,” she muttered as Leon got off her. Leon groaned and you looked down at him.
“Go, don’t let her get away,” he whispered. Your eyes went wide as they landed on his blood soaked shoulder. You rushed over to him, falling to the floor beside him just as he passed out. You put your hand on his shoulder.
“We need to get it wrapped up,” Ada said.
“Damn vest. Never where I need it to be,” you muttered. “Is he gonna be okay?” you asked, turning to her. She looked over at him. She took off her sunglasses, letting you see her eyes for the first time. You had no doubt she was beautiful without the glasses but it still hit you like a sack of bricks.
“Yes.” You had your hand pressed firmly against Leon’s shoulder, your other hand holding his head above ground. You grabbed one of the bandages you had found in the station and carefully wrapped it around his shoulder. You weren’t great at it but it kept the pressure. Ada took off her trench coat, revealing a red dress underneath.
“You have somewhere to be after this?” you asked, laughing.
“I never go anywhere looking less than amazing,” she said and she sounded genuine. You decided not to push. She handed you the jacket, gesturing to Leon. You put it over him like a blanket.
“I have to go and find Annette, there’s no time to wait.” You nodded.
“Do you want me to come?” She sensed you wanting to stay with him instantly. Despite having met Ada a mere two hours after you had met Leon, you had still met him first. You felt you had a responsibility to keep him safe. You wanted to keep him safe.
“Stay with him till he wakes up. Then come find me,” she said. “Keep him safe.” You nodded.
“Ada?” you said before she walked off. “You be safe.”
It had been a fat minute since someone wanted Ada to be safe. She knew she was lying to you. Once everything was said and done, she would take the sample if you got it before her. But you and Leon trusted her and wanted her to be safe. She gave you a small smile, a genuine smile and nodded.
“I’ll see you both soon.”
She walked down the hall, leaving you alone with Leon. You turned to him, his face at peace as he slept. You put your hand on his.
“Wake up soon. We got work to do Kennedy.” You noticed your necklace on his vest and smiled gently. You tucked it inside his shirt and rested beside him.
Now to figure out how to clean this gun.
====
You had almost fallen asleep when you felt Leon stir beside you. You jerked yourself awake and turned to him. His eyes fluttered open and he put his hand on his bandage. It was holding up pretty well. You met his eyes.
“Y/N,” he breathed. He looked around. “Where’s Ada?”
“She went to get Annette. Told me to stay here with you until you woke up,” you explained.
“I’m awake.”
“Hey, are you feeling alright? You kind of got shot.”
“Yeah,” he said. He put his hand on his arm gingerly. “I got shot,” he muttered. “That’s something I’ve never been able to say before.” You nodded, laughing gently.
“You sure you’re okay?”
“I’ll live. Come on, what if Ada needs us?” You nodded. You stood up and offered him your hand which he took. You hoisted him up. “Why would she tell you to stay? You’d be more useful to her out there.”
“Probably thought I would get in her way. Or maybe she sensed that I didn’t want to leave you alone when you’re out cold,” you said. He smiled.
“Thank you for watching over me.”
“Anytime Kennedy. But it seems we have another puzzle to solve if we want to get to Ada so we should probably focus.”
===
After more time than either of you cared to admit, you were able to get down to where Ada was. She looked injured as she sat down on the ground. You both rushed down to her. As you slowed next to her you noticed something coming out of her leg.
“I was getting worried there for a sec,” she muttered. “I can’t get it out.”
“I don’t know if I should-” Leon started. Ada looked at you.
“Do it. I can’t walk like this.” You nodded curtly and put your hands on the jagged piece of debris. You pulled it out and she winched. Leon was already ready with the bandages. “I can do that myself,” she said but Leon still did it anyway.
“What do we do now?” he asked.
“Get yourselves out of here, while you still can,” Ada said. You scoffed.
“We aren’t just going to leave you here,” you told her.
“You don’t understand, this situation is worse than I thought,” she said. You shrugged.
“Then we’ll figure it out together. We’re already knee deep in this.”
“You protected us,” Leon said. “Now it’s our turn.” Ada smiled.
“Didn’t realize we were keeping score,” she muttered. You snuck a smile. You stood up and she grabbed your hand as you hoisted her up.
“Grab onto my shoulder,” Leon said.
“Don’t push it rookie,” Ada muttered. You smiled, sharing a glance with Leon. You both liked her. It was probably going to be the wrong thing to do, you could feel it but you liked her anyway. Leon on the other hand didn’t seem to feel any apprehension toward her. “We need to get to the NEST. It’s below us, that’s where all the virus samples are,” Ada explained. “You guys up for that?”
“I think I can fit it into my schedule,” Leon said. “Y/N?” You nodded, holding up your gun.
“I think my aims getting better but I still gotta practice.”
“Come on, we got work to do,” Ada said.
“Yes ma’am.”
====
Ada concluded that, as much as she wanted to, she couldn’t keep going with her leg like the way it was. She handed you a wristband and made you and Leon promise to get the sample. She made you understand that once that sample was there, she would be back working with the FBI. You didn’t exactly trust that but you couldn’t bring her along.
You and Leon had gotten into a nice working partnership. You walked together, upgrading the wristbands and finding the parts you needed to create the sample.
“I was meant to have a partner when I joined the force,” Leon said, out of nowhere. You had just got done explaining everything you had done to each other back, just to make sure you were doing things right.
“Do you know who it would have been?” you asked. He shook his head.
“No, they hadn’t assigned anyone to me yet.” He looked over at you. “They wouldn’t have been as good as you thought,” he concluded. You scoffed.
“Leon, I learned to use this gun a whole five hours ago.”
“Has it really only been five hours?” “Honestly, I couldn’t tell you. I didn’t bring a watch. But regardless, you would have had someone fully equipped to deal with all this.” You gestured around you.
“No, no I think it works,” he said. “If there was someone equipped for all this I wouldn’t have as much fun.”
“You think this is fun?”
“Well I think it would be miserable if you weren’t here.”
“Well we can thank Claire for that one,” you said. You put your hand on his arm and he met your eyes. They were wonderful to look into. “Leon if we don’t make it out of this-”
“We’re gonna make it out of this,” he promised. “You, me, Claire, Ada and Chris.” You smiled.
“Leon, you're genuinely the best person I know,” you said, laughing. “And if I don’t make it out of this, I want you to know that.”
Your eyes lingered, locked on each other for just a moment too long. A zombie broke your thoughts. You turned around and shot it once in the head.
“Hey, your aim’s gotten really good!”
“I’ve had a good teacher.”
“Ada Wong?”
“Oh shut up Kennedy.”
====
You had the G-Virus sample in your hand, Annette Birkin behind you, Leon Kennedy to your side and Ada Wong pointing a gun at you.
24 hours ago, that sentence would have made no sense at all to you.
“Leon hand over the sample or she dies and I really don’t wanna kill her,” Ada said. You didn’t even have your gun out. If you moved you were scared she would just shoot you.
“I really liked you Ada,” you said.
“And I really like you,” she said.
“We were just pawns to you?” you asked.
“I’m just doing my job,” she said. Leon stepped between you and the gun.
“And I’m doing mine,” he said. “Drop the damn gun! I’m taking you in.” Officer Leon. You fought back the small smile, the fear creeping over you.
“Hand over the sample Leon. I don’t want to hurt either of you.” Leon lowered his gun. Your eyes went wide.
“Then shoot me but I don’t think you can.”
“Leon-” you started but he raised his hand, causing you to be quiet. Ada straightened her back but he was right. She couldn’t shoot him. She lowered her gun.
But she was shot anyway. It surprised all three of you. You turned, seeing Annette with the gun in her hand. The sample slipped out of Leon’s hand and down into the abyss. You slipped, grabbing onto the edge, holding on by only your finger. You looked over and noticed Ada was in the same position as you. Leon tried to extend his arms to get both of you but he had no leverage.
Ada met his eyes.
“Save her,” she demanded. Leon closed his eyes for just a moment, pretending this wasn’t happening and Ada’s grip loosened. Leon cursed under his breath and grabbed your arm, pulling you up. You shook your head, reaching over to grab her but she was already gone. Leon couldn’t bring himself to look.
He wrapped his arms around you and the two of you ran through what was left of the bridge.
“Nine minutes till detonation,” the building said. You grabbed your gun and started to run through the building.
“Who is that?” Leon asked. You turned to what he was looking up at. There was a screen and someone furiously typing. Your eyes went wide.
“Claire! She’s alive!” You felt a rush of relief like you had never felt before and leaned over the edge. “Claire!” “Y/N? Leon?! You’re down here too?”
“Yeah but the whole place is coming down,” Leon said. “Listen, you need to get out. Fast!”
“Yeah, there’s a way out,” Claire said. “We can make it! Where are you now?”
“Don’t worry about us,” you said.
“Y/N? Hey, you’re breaking up.”
“Forget about us! Get out of here!” you said. Leon grabbed your arm.
“We have to go, come on.” You nodded and followed him away from the screen.
====
After a fight with one of the damn monsters that hadn’t stopped pestering you, you and Leon finally landed on a train car that was moving quickly out of the city. You looked at the dead bioweapon as it disappeared behind you.
You hit your head against the train wall and let out a soft sigh. Leon turned to you and hugged you tightly to him. You wrapped your arms around him, breathing him in, memorizing his scent.
“Is it too forward if I say you make me feel really fucking safe?” you asked. He put his lips on the top of your head and you closed your eyes.
“I’m a police officer. It’s what I’m supposed to make you feel.” You laughed dryly and tightened your grip.
“Alright Officer Kennedy,” you said against his chest. “How do I make you feel?” He closed his eyes gently and you could feel him smiling against your hair.
“Secure,” he whispered. “Warm,” he said quicker, like he was changing his mind.
“I think that’s cause it’s hot in here.” You both laughed and you pulled away. Your eyes lingered on his and you put your hand on his cheek.
“Can..can I..” he stuttered but you kissed him before he could finally spit it out. He melted against your kiss, molding into you perfectly. He put his hand gently on your cheek. You would have kissed forever had there not been a clash in the other room.
You met his eyes and he pulled out his gun, stepping in front of you. He opened the door.
Claire stood there with a little girl. Your face lit up.
“Claire! Oh my God Claire!” You threw your arms around her and she hugged you tightly.
“You guys made it!” she said. You nodded, pulling away from her. There was a bang the way you came. Claire let out an annoyed sigh. “You guys wait here. I got this one.”
====
You, Leon, Claire and the little girl Sherry, all walked the road out of Racoon City. Claire was holding Sherry’s hand and you were holding Leon’s.
“So are you guys boyfriend and girlfriend?” Sherry asked you. You scoffed.
“I think it’s a little early for-”
“Yeah,” Leon said. You met his eyes. “If that’s okay!”
“It’s perfectly okay,” you said. Claire wiggled her eyebrows.
“What did I miss?” You scoffed.
“You left me and I had to find my own way around,” you said. She shrugged.
“I seem to remember it was a mutual leaving.” You rubbed Leon’s hand and brushed the bracelet he was still wearing. It was Ada’s, the wristband she had given the two of you. Leon seemed to notice it right when you did. You both felt a pant of guilt. She had helped you and now she was gone. But she had also betrayed you.
You had conflicting feelings.
He let your hand go and took it off.
“I only wear one woman’s jewelry,” he said and tossed it down on the ground, walking past it. You rolled your eyes.
“You still have it?” He took the necklace out from around his neck. You laughed.
“I thought you would’ve lost it when we were falling off that bridge,” you said. He shook his head.
“I guess I can give it back to you now,” he said, semi solemnly. You shook your head.
“Keep it. It’ll remind you of me.”
“You guys are adorable!” Claire said. You rolled your eyes.
“Look!” Sherry said. She pointed to an upcoming truck. “Maybe they can give us a ride?” she suggested.
“What if it’s not just the city?” Claire asked.
“She could be right.”
“Get Sherry out of here,” Leon said. He pointed to you. “Go with them.”
“No,” you said, taking out your gun. He laughed gently. He had no intention of arguing with you. The truck drove up and the driver flipped you all off through the window. You scoffed.
“He was friendly,” Leon said.
“So...is it over?” Claire asked.
“I don’t know,” Leon said. He slipped his hand back into yours. “But if it isn’t we’ll stop it.” You nodded, looking back toward Claire and Sherry then at Leon again before speaking.
“Whatever it takes.”

Emily watches “Army of the Dead” (Spoilers!)
I only watched this for Tig Notato. For those that don’t know, the man originally cast in her role filmed the whole movie. But he has been accused to sexual misconduct. So the director, Zack Snyder, went in a digitally added Tig Notato in his place. Her work is all done on green screen. She didn’t meet the rest of the cast.
There definitely are some instances where you can tell she is not in the same room, and it’s actually more from the performance she gives than anything else. Like her levels are not matching. Visually it looks fine.
I very much support replacing problematic men with lesbians. If that is the lasting impact of this movie, I think it’s great.
As for the movie itself? Meh.
Zack Snyder is clearly working out some stuff about the death of his daughter. So the whole movie is about Scott (Dave Bautista) and his daughter, Kate. (Ella Purnell). The problem is that I didn’t really care about them.
In fact I was actively rooting for her to die. So that kind of sucks because (spoiler alert) she is the only one who for sure survives. Like some could be retconned to survive, maybe. And some are bitten so they could be in a sequel but as for DEFINITELY alive. Just her.
I mean I guess it’s nice that Snyder made a movie about how he’d kill everyone to save his kid. But it’s not enjoyable to watch really.
Because there are other characters who do die, like Tig Notaro’s character and I am not really sure why. Like there is no satisfying arc to their story. Just sometimes people die helping Kate. And I want to tell them, don’t help Kate, she’ll get you killed.
Her friend who has kids—Geeta—is (I guess, her body is not shown) dead at the end too. So like who is gonna watch those kids? KATE? No, thanks.
I think the only satisfying death was Garret Dillahunt. He plays a bad guy named Martin. He gets eat by a zombie tiger. That is cool. And also, must be very hard to act. Give him more work. I loved him in Sarah Connor Chronicles.
The safe cracker, Dieter, ALMOST had a good arc. Except he should’ve been a bit more badass zombie killer in the end. Since the joke was that he wasn’t. I wanted him to live.
And the reveal that Vanderohe (Omari Hardwick) was bitten was a real fuck you to the audience. I wanted him, Tig Notaro, Geeta and Lily to turn out to be alive somehow.
I also wanted this to be a heist movie (like Ocean’s Eleven) combined with zombies. But there isn’t much to the heist of it all. Really only Dieter does any heisting. It’s mostly going into zombie territory to get money. Which is a bad idea. And there is a lot of stuff about the lead zombie and his “Bride” that was frankly boring. There is a zombie fetus. And... it’s played like it is super important but it’s just silly.
Plus the zombies stay at a hotel called Olympus so the leader is referred to as Zeus but his wife is not called Hera. Just “his bride.” Missed opportunity. She could’ve been jealous and turned people into animals.
That’s just fun for everyone.

My Sinking City Headcanons: Side Cases
In this post about my Sinking City headcanons, I’ll be going into the side cases (Main Game and DLC) with multiple endings. These include: A Delicate Matter, Through the Looking Glass, Breaking News, and Blood from a Stone. As with my “Main Case” post, these are simply what I believe to be the right/best things to do with the game’s choices. Also, spoiler alert for these cases!
A Delicate Matter
As much as Sidney Stokes didn’t mean to kill Herbert Glover, he still did. Glover was exercising his right to defend his home from intruders, and was murdered while doing so. While Stokes’ motive is understandable (needing bullets to pay for his mother’s funeral arrangements), his actions resulted in the death of an undeserving (as far as we know) man. Therefore, Charles turns Sidney Stokes in.
Charles doesn’t rob Sidney’s stash of bullets upon finding them; even if Stokes isn’t able to pay for his mother’s funeral, stealing them is very low.
I wish the game gave you the option to give Sidney some bullets or to pay off his mother’s funeral yourself. 30 bullets, though, is a lot, especially given how much you need them.
Through the Looking Glass
When Charles confronts Bethany in the cellar, he chooses to take the mirror back to Robert Throgmorton. While Bethany just wants to free the soul of her son, Hammond, from the mirror, her receptacle for his soul is none other than his body. At this point, his body has been in its coffin for decades; essentially, if she lets him out, he’ll be a child zombie. While Charles learns that Robert’s solution isn’t much better (a pongo abelii, aka, an orangutan), that’s a big improvement over being a tiny zombie stuck in a coffin.
With this case, I wish that Charles could simply take the mirror and run, thus keeping from having to kill Bethany when she pulls a gun on him. Another good alternate way would have been to convince Bethany to come with you back to Throgmorton’s with the mirror, thus allowing for a real family reunion.
Breaking News
When Charles gets back to the Oakmont Chronicle, where Helen Bland awaits his scoop on the “Tiger”, he chooses to lie to her. While lying is a terrible thing to do when reporting for a newspaper, I’d say that giving Michael Robertson any ties to the Tiger, whether that’s as the Tiger itself or as its friend, is going to get the man killed in the future. Robertson uses his costume and mimicry ability to scare Klansmen while they’re committing their horrendous crimes. Additionally, the newspaper article that tells of some Klansmen being scared off by an actual tiger also warns people to stay out of abandoned buildings and stay in groups on the street, good advice considering that wylebeasts love abandoned buildings.
Blood from a Stone
Once again, Charles is forced to lie to Helen after investigating the Golem. Charles makes sure to shy away from the facts that Vilma Bartosz had anything to do with the disappearance of the Golem from her father’s restaurant, or that she and the very much alive Golem are headed to the Shells. Thankfully, there are options to giving Helen a story that doesn’t ruin Vilma and the Golem’s chance at a life free of Mr. Bartosz. Now, if there was a way to expose his abusive and disgusting ways....
One of the things I love about The Sinking City is the moral complexity behind its choices. With most choice-based games, it’s pretty obvious which is the good choice and which is the bad. With Sinking City, the choices aren’t so black and white. I’m not saying that the choices I’ve outlined in this post and in my Main Case post are the right ones; they’re merely the ones I think are right. Hope you enjoyed reading this, and hope that you had a great Halloween!
