#But I just wanted to talk about my ideas before the Brave Banner comes out
Text
I'm bored and the Brave Banner's a few days away so... possible predictions?
First possibility I can think of (and kinda hope doesn't happen) is that seeing as 3/4 of the CYL winners primarily use tomes, Instys decides to make everyone on the banner a tome user. I hope this isn't the case cuz I want there to be some variety.
now for what I think each character could be
Robin
For Robin, I think his unit will depend on two things. If they give Corrin Omega Yato, and if this is actually Robin and not Grima stealing another slot. (Grima took F!Robin's Legendary and Rearmed alt, they could do the same to M!Robin).
If Robin gets to use a sword, then it'll most likely be a variant of the Levin Sword. If he's a tome user I can imagine he'd be blue or colorless? Same if he happens to be a dragon unit. I feel like Green'll go to either Soren or Gullveig.
As for his design, had they not given Robin a legendary alt this year I would have said grandmaster. But he has a legendary alt so it's a little up in the air what his Brave Alt'll be. Maybe he'll get a Plegian outfit to represent his past, or a Ylissean outfit to represent his found family.
Or maybe they use this variation of the grandmaster design from the Cypher cards:
Tumblr media
Granted, this is only if Robin's not being possessed by Grima. In which case he could look like this:
Tumblr media
I'm hoping Grima doesn't steal another Robin slot but you never know.
Gullveig
Gullveig's a weird case. Seeing as she's currently the second Feh OC to win CYL... and she was out for about a month when she won. Back then we barely knew anything about her so it was hard to say what she'd end up like. Though now that we're more than halfway through Book 7's story and we know that Gullveig's the future version of Seidr, I think we have a clearer picture.
I think Gullveig could become a green or colorless tome user. The only reason I'm suggesting Green is because one possibility for Gullveig's design could be putting together some elements of Seidr and Kvasir. Represent all three versions of herself in one?
It's also gonna be kinda interesting if Seidr turns into Gullveig next chapter. Not sure it'll happen but she DID get infected with the Golden Serpents. Imagine if Seidr turns into Brave Gullveig.
Soren
Soren's likely gonna be a tome user, either green or colorless. He COULD be a dagger unit though, as one of his class promotions lets him throw knives. But it's more likely that he'll be tome.
His design varies. I kinda want him to wear something resembling his parents, though I find this to be unlikely as he doesn't know who his parents are. So I think he'll either be a sage, wind mage or an archsage. I feel like Archsage could be more likely though, and if not, then that'll be his legendary alt... if Soren ever gets one.
Corrin
Now Corrin's a bit easier to figure out. There's a 50/50 chance that she'll be either a sword user (and have Omega Yato as her weapon) or a dragon unit (and have something to represent her father Anankos, and she'd likely be a blue unit).
Design wise, there's three possibilities. One could be a design similar to Mikoto, one could be the Hoshidan Noble outfit and the last one Valla monarch. Out of the three, Valla Monarch the most likely outfit, at least in my opinion. Hinoka's legendary design already resembles Mikoto and the Hoshidan Noble outfit should be reserved for Male Corrin should he ever get his legendary alt.
In which case, based off Cypher cards this should be the design.

"Alright, just a small pinch." Bruce explained to you before inserting an IV catheter into a vein in the ditch of your arm.
This moment felt a little unreal. Sitting criss-crossed in an armchair in the Avengers living room in their own compound somewhere in upstate New York. Bruce Banner, the fucking hulk, on your left giving you medical attention, and Steve on your right, holding your hand giving you emotional support.
After a whole night of Steve trying his hardest to nurse you back to health with lots of love, cuddles, and bribery in the form of your favorite Chinese food, you just couldn't keep anything down.
Even though you wanted to drink and you desperately wanted to shove Crab Rangoons down your throat, you just couldn't. Half a glass of water and two bites of fried rice had you feeling nauseous and uncomfortable. This time, the discomfort wasn't from trying to out eat a super soldier.
Steve was such a sweetheart, he didn't push it too hard, but he did push for exactly what was happening right now. Some fluid and parental nutrition through an IV to get you right on track for a smooth recovery from what the agents put you through. He could tell that although settling more and more by the minute, your nerves were still off the chart. Your lack of eating made perfect psychological sense, but he still wanted you to feel better.
So he convinced you to let Bruce do this, and you agreed without hesitation. The lack of medical environment and the never ending warmth you've felt from every Avenger you've met thus far made you feel comfortable and brave enough for something like this. Really, it was no biggy.
The IV went in without a hitch, and you barely even felt it.
"Okay, I'm going to flush this out with a little bit of saline. It might taste kind've metallic in your mouth for a few moments. That's normal." He told you while inserting a syringe looking thing into the end of the line going straight to your vein.
Just like he said, you tasted metal. "Ooh" Your eyebrows pinched together. "Weird."
"I think it tastes like expo markers" Steve commented.
"How do you know what expo markers taste like?" Natasha asked, head leaning to the side with a grin.
"I don't know... it just tastes how they smell." He shrugged.
"You're so weird, Rogers." She commented before looking back down at her laptop.
You giggled at her comment before biting your tongue considering he was right next to you.
"Come on, back me up, Sweetie." He asked.
"I wish I could" You laughed. "But I have no idea what you're talking about."
He pouted, Bruce didn't even give him a chance to rebuttal. "You're all set and ready to go. The bag should be done in about an hour then I'll come take the IV out."
"Thank you, Bruce, I appreciate it." You grinned.
"Of course, I'll be back in a bit." He gave you a polite nod before leaving again.
As Bruce left, Nat sprung up from her spot on the couch and approached you and Steve before knocking his hand off of yours.
"Let me have her" Nat said, walking around the back of your chair.
"What the f- Nat!" Steve complained.
"Stealing his girl and he still won't drop the f bomb" She teased, running her fingers through your hair that you washed yesterday but had yet to do anything with.
You had no idea what was going on, but you remembered the first warning Steve gave you about being around the Avengers, there would always be chaos. So you sat there with an uncontrollable smile as Nat played with your hair, and Steve argued with her like a child.
"You aren't stealing anyone from me." Steve whined. "What are you doing? Did you even ask?"
"She has such beautiful hair, I want to braid it." Nat answered Steve, then leaned over to see your face. "Is that alright, Cupcake?"
"That's more than alright" You grinned.
"Cupcake?!" Steve puffed playfully. "I know you're not calling my girl Cupcake."
"How is it any different than sugar cookie?" Nat asked as your cheeks blushed at Steve calling you his girl.
"I don't know, it just sounds patronizing." He complained.
"Do you feel patronized, Cupcake?" Nat asked you, parting your hair from behind the armchair you were sitting in.
"This feels like a trap." You giggled, reaching out to hold Steve's hand again. He accepted it quickly, then gave it a little squeeze.
"Smart girl" Nat smiled.
The three of you chatted away while she sectioned your hair down the middle, and worked on the first of the two french braids she was putting into your hair.
Once it was finished she tied off the end with a hair tie, then worked on the next one on the other side. You guys were so preoccupied I'm the easy flowing conversation that the opening door, and approaching footsteps went unnoticed.
"What is this?" An iconic voice asked, immediately sending a shiver down your spine.
You looked from Steve's laughing face over to the source, none other than Tony Stark. Steve's face fell into an expression that was much more guarded, and you immediately felt uncomfortable.
He warned you about everything. Talking raccoons, blue Cyborgs, bickering, weapons you might see, emergency codes you might hear. You felt prepared for every situation but this one.
You didn't know what terms Steve and Tony were on, but you did know he was one of the most powerful people in the country. Quite honestly, you didn't even know if you were allowed to make eye contact, or speak unless spoken to. So you sat respectfully quiet, and tried to keep your cool.
No one responded to Tony as he pointed to you, a measly little thing sitting criss cross in a chair wearing Steve's clothes that were far too big for you, with an IV in your arm, all while Natasha braided your hair.
"Make a wish foundation?" Tony asked again.
"Oh god, Tony-" Steve scuffed, shaking his head.
"Okay? Another super-person I need to worry about?" Tony's eyes went from Steve's to Natasha's, everyone but your own.
"Well, she's certainly super, that's for sure" Natasha smiled.
"So, no one's going to tell me who you are?" Tony finally asked you, looking at you directly.
You opened your mouth to say something, but nothing came out, so you looked at Steve to help guide you through this. He could see the worried look in your eye, so he took over.
"This is my-" Steve stared fully confident before realizing that you didn't even really have a title in his life.
Girlfriend. No? He never officially asked you to be his considering you both knew he had to leave.
Friend? Kind've, but not really?
Neighbor was an absolute no, you were way more than just a friendly face next door.
He looked at you, and you were thinking the same thing he was. The confused look on his face made you bite the insides of your cheeks to hold back laughter.
"Well I'm certainly a girl, and I'm definitely his friend." You took the pressure off of him. If the two of you were doing down, you would go down together.
"Wait a second," Tony started. "You're sugar cookie?"
"Didn't know I had a reputation around here, but I guess so." You confirmed.
"No way." Tony shook his head. "Let me see your hands"
With reluctance and no confidence whatsoever, your put your hands out to him. He walked closer and saw the scar on your palm.
"Well no shit!" He enthused. "A baker who caught a falling knife, you're real! That's incredibly stupid by the way, you should always let the knife drop."
"Why are you here, Tony." Steve redirected him, you could hear the annoyance in his voice and feel the tension in the room.
"Just here to grab some stuff then I'll be out of your hair." Tony addressed him, then immediately started pestering you again. "So, what's wrong with you?"
"Oh, I just- I was arrested and it's bee-"
"No" Tony cut you off. "I mean which wires are loose in your head that makes you want to play stuffin' the muffin with Rogers?"
"Enough." Steve put his foot down.
"Leave her alone, Stark." Nat sounded from behind you.
"Damn, tough crowd. Reminds me of exactly why I'm leaving for the woods and never coming back." Tony quipped. "Peace out."
You watched as Tony left, and Steve let out a breath of annoyance. You didn't need to see Nat's face to know she was holding back a smile.
Silence fell over the three of you for a little while, it seemed as though Steve was steaming in a lump of his own negative emotions over the billionaire while Nat kept her mouth shut as to not fuel the fire.
In attempts to calm him down without even needing to use your words, while simultaneously comforting yourself, you pulled his forearm onto the arm of the chair you were sitting in. You played with his fingers and rubbed his soft skin.
When the second braid was done, Nat tied off the end then hugged you from behind while excusing herself to get some work done.
Still feeling emotionally and physically exhausted from the past few days, you readjusted with your IV arm out where it should be, but curled your legs beneath you and rested your head on Steve's arm.
You could feel him relax under your touch, and his hand moved up to gently cup the side of your head before placing a kiss to your temple.
"M'sorry about that" Steve apologized quietly. "Really wasn't expecting him to be around today... or ever."
"Don't apologize, it's not your fault." You reminded him. "Never thought I'd be here, but this is definitely a story I'll tell my grandkids one day."
Steve giggled at your comment, the thought of you old and grey with grand kids running around with endless cookies in their hands made him smile. "I never really thought you'd be here either but I'm glad you are."
"As cool as this is though, I can't wait to get back to Greenwood." You explained, feeling homesick. You barely ever left the small town, so being away combined with the three most terrifying days of your life, you were longing for your own house.
"I can't even tell you how much I miss it." Steve shook his head in disbelief. "I miss the bakery."
"The bakery misses you too, she told me every day." You joked.
"I wonder if Bruce can make this IV drip faster so we can leave sooner" Steve pondered.
Unfortunately for Steve, he had to wait the full hour before he could take you home. But luckily, getting you home was a breeze.
You were a rockstar in the Jet, to Steve's surprise, you found in interesting. Tiny bits of your personality were starting to shine back through as you asked him a million and one questions about what everything did on board. He was more than happy to answer every single question, and let you push every single button so long as it didn't interfere with a smooth flight.
Sometimes he found it really easy to normalize these aspects of his life that were completely out of the ordinary to the average civilian. He didn't know if it was because it was a survival tactic of his own, or because he so desperately craved to feel normal even when most of his life was everything but average, but he found so much happiness and beauty in sharing moments like this with you.
You quickly brought him back to earth, and your childlike curiosity and amazement for even something as simple as transportation that was a normal part of life as a superhero reminded him of all the ways his life was enriched.
This time bringing the Jet to Greenwood was a lot more welcomed with a lot more accommodations. The police department cleared Steve to land in their private runway and store it in their hangars. Immediately upon exiting, you were met with the chief and a few officers who came to check in on you and make sure you were okay. And for the first time ever, you saw Steve hold himself high and be greeted with respect by anyone in Greenwood.
The police escorted you two home, which lead to more fascination by you because you had never been in a police car before. Steve reminded you more than once that it was a really great thing that this was a whole new experience for you, but once again he couldn't stop smiling.
Both of you had never felt more relief than when he opened the car door and helped you out. Waiting for you in your driveway was a handful of your friends and neighbors who were worried sick about you, and had heard about your arrival back home.
While each one greeted you with long, tight hugs, hair pets, back rubs, and cheek kisses, Steve watched from a slight distance while he sorted out the rest of the information the police needed to make sure you were as safe as could be.
His heart was happy knowing you were so loved by your community, and when he caught a glimpse of all the flowers and letters and pictures in his own driveway that you had told him about, he couldn't help but to feel loved as well.
After Steve introduced himself to everyone at your homecoming, he got you back in your house safe and sound. Right back where the journey started, you picked your phone up from underneath the couch and plugged it in.
He could see it on your face that you were still drained regardless of the excitement of getting back home. Some of your employees and friends had promised they'd be over at your place tonight with dinner and good company to try and ease up the hardship of the past few days, so now was a good time to leave you alone.
You were thankful to have someone like him who understood your needs without even having to express them, someone who understood the value of processing your thoughts by yourself without being offended.
So he tucked you into your bed, then sat next to your hip before giving you a series of sweet kisses.
"Are you doing okay?" He questioned genuinely.
You grinned and nodded, feeling relaxed and relieved. "thank you for rescuing me, Stevie."
"That's what I'm here for, Sunflower." He rubbed your cheek with his thumb. "I'll be back here in a few hours, but if you need me before then you know where I live."
A smile took over your face, then a thought occurred. "Hey, can I have your real phone number now?"
"Are you hitting on me?" Steve questioned cheekily.
"Of course I am" You confirmed. "What's a pretty boy like you doing all alone in this part of town?"
He shook his head at your antics, before giving you another kiss. "Yes, you can have my real phone number now."
"I'm really moving on up in this world." You celebrated.
"I'll put it in your phone on my way out." He assured you. "I'll see you later, okay?"
"Okay" You agreed as he tucked you in tighter.
"I love you" He reminded you sincerely.
"I love you too" You happily wrapped your arms around him in a goodbye hug, this time you kissed him. "So so much."
He said goodbye then put his real personal phone number in your contacts just as promised before making his way to his house. Checking the inside before dealing with the fanfare in the front, he found something he suspected, the loss of some of his clothes.
But, everything else was just as he left it but tidier. He could tell you had gone in there a few times to clean up and make sure everything was as it should be.
After checking upstairs he made his way back down to the garage to open up the big door to make clearing out the front of his house a lot easier. The pile of broken down cardboard boxes neatly stacked against the wall reminded him that he still owed you a cardboard castle.
Steve opened up the door and spent hours picking up each letter and reading every word, looking at every picture, saving every little shield and stuffed animal that was left for him. Some of the kind words brought tears to his eyes, most of them were words of thanks for what he and the Avengers did and how they continued to be a beacon of hope during uncertain times.
It reminded him of how much had changed since he was in Greenwood last, it looked a little different, felt a little different, but now it was a little different. Because as neighbors walked by they finally made it a point to introduce themselves and apologize that they had never come by before now.
The a few of the neighbors kids even came out to talk to him, their parents pulling them away after asking for a picture. This time around, the eyes on him felt starstruck rather than judgmental.
Although some of it felt hypocritical, he was happy to be back and involved in a community rather than having to isolate himself and hide from the world. Every word, every picture, every dead flower and passing neighbor felt bitter sweet.
That was until he was in the middle of reading another letter he had picked up from the ground and he could hear footsteps approaching behind him. He stopped what he was doing and looked back with a friendly smile, only for it to drop when he was met with Georgia rather than another new friendly face.
She wasn't worth his time, he didn't even want to hear her out after what she did to you. Yes he heard all the awful things she had said about him. Terrorist, war criminal, out of control, selfish, manipulator, but he didn't care. He could let all of that go, in fact, sometimes the avengers needed to be criticized by civilians. But what she did to his love was unforgivable.
So, he ignored her and proceeded to read the letter right where he left off. This one was from a 17 year old named Jack, currently telling him all about how his plans for the future. He wanted to go to school to become a fire fighter and a paramedic as the avengers inspired him to save lives ever since he was just a little ki-
"You killed my husband." Georgia's voice sounded from behind him.
Ah yes, another thing Steve has had to come to terms with. People directly blaming him for the loss of people he had no control over. Guilt ate him alive over the blip every single day, but he was working on it and this simply wasn't helping.
"I'm sorry?" Steve turned around, eyebrows furrowed.
"Michael is gone. He was blipped." Georgia explained.
"I'm very sorry for your loss." Steve monotoned, turning around as to end the conversation before it got out of hand. His heart was beating out of his chest.
"You don't even have remorse." She practically spat. "Do you even care? Look what you've done."
Steve took a big deep breath before he bit his tongue and turned back around to face her. "Last time I checked, I was trying my absolute hardest to make sure nobody had to go through this. My hand isn't the one that snapped."
"How hard could you have possibly been trying? I have to live everyday without the love of my life because the Avengers can never get their act together."
"Well if it's any consolation I lost a lot of people that I loved too." Steve scoffed, heart beating even faster, trying so hard to push down the guilt.  "People I loved died trying to keep this from happening. So I'm sorry for your loss, but we really did all we could."
Georgia rendered silent for a few moments as she could unexpectedly see the pain of what he had gone through in his eyes, and the faded scar on his forehead. But it wasn't enough to appease her anger and hatred. Nothing was. "You took my sweet baby away from me." All he did was cock an eyebrow and tilt his head to the side, not understanding who she was referring to. "She was nothing but kind, all she did was mind her own business and run the bakery but you swooped in here and you changed her."
"I didn't take her away from you" Steve shook his head. "You pushed her away. That was your own choice."
"I pushed her away because I already knew what was going to happen and I was trying to spare her." Georgia explained. "Has she even told you anything about what the last men like you did to her?"
"I have an idea, yes." Steve nodded. "I understand and appreciate that you're trying to look out for her, but I would never hurt her. She's a grown woman, she makes good choices, and you went about it all wrong."
"Oh? Really? You'd never hurt her?" Georgia scoffed.
"Do you understand how traumatic the passed few days have been for her because you reported her to the government?" Steve questioned. "They hurt her, you hurt her, and now she has to pick up the pieces all over again. I don't want to hear anything else about how much you care about her, because someone who cares wouldn't cause her even more pain."
"Had you never been here, I would've never had to report her." Georgia pointed out. "And you know what? If I put the pieces of this stupid little puzzle together and I didn't report her, then I would be a criminal too. So guess what? That's also your fault."
"Her criminal record is completely clean by the way, but I did notice that assault charge on yours from a few years back." Steve chirped. "Spitting on an officer is not a good look."
"You killed her mother." She barked. That statement took Steve down a notch... or two. "She just lost her dad not too long ago, and now her Mom is gone. Of course she didn't tell me that, I found out on a Facebook post she was tagged in. Did you know about that?"
"We haven't talked abo-"
"Of course you didn't, and guess what? She's never going to tell you that. You know why? Because she's incapable of healthy relationships."  Georgia ranted. "She's going to love you so hard but emotionally shut you out whenever things get hard in her head so much so that it'll suffocate you. I'm the only one who knows what really happened between her and her ex, she didn't even tell her Mom. Wherever her Mom fell flat in the emotional support department, I picked up that slack. And guess what? She doesn't have either of us now. And that's your fault."
Once again, Steve was speechless. He wasn't sure if it was from her words or her audacity, but either way he wanted to throw up.
"I don't care who you are or what you've done. I see past the whole superhero facade. You say you'd never hurt her and she believes it, but I don't because you've already hurt her in the worst way imaginable."
"But you've done nothing wrong, right?" Steve questioned. "You're just this perfect person who's done nothing but improve her life?"
"I know what I did wrong, the difference between you and I is that I can admit that while you sit here and act like you're better than everyone else because you wear stars and stripes."
"Georgia, I've felt unimaginable guilt every single day of my life since I became Captain America." Steve admitted. "Survivors guilt. Guilt that I haven't done enough. Guilt every single time I try to relax. Guilt that I put the kindest person I know in a tough situation. And though I don't need to explain myself to you, you have to understand that I'm human too. I try my hardest to be the best that I can be and make good choices, but sometimes I mess up. Should I have just left her alone at the start? Yeah, probably. But she was the only person I could connect with after almost a whole year on my own. She made me feel like I could keep going when I was about to give up. Yes, she knew who I was, but she chose to stay by my side. Do I regret letting her do that? Absolutely not. Do I feel guilty about everything I've put her through? Every waking moment."
"So why do you continue to be in her life when you could so easily just let her go?" Georgia questioned.
"Because I love her, and the one thing I will never allow myself to feel guilty about is staying with someone I love." Steve explained. "She was loyal to me at my lowest and I intend on being there for her whenever she needs me. So I'm sorry that Thano's blipped Michael, and I'm sorry for unintentionally driving a wedge between you and her, but her and I have enough on our plate at the moment so please just give her some space."
"I don't hate you, Captain Rogers, but I will continue to be your harshest critic."
"I don't need you to like me, and I am my own harshest critic." Steve stood his ground.
"Take care of her, treat her well." She lectured. "By all means, you've got to do better than this."
"I'm not interested in continuing this conversation."
"I'll be praying that she tells you the whole truth about what happened with her last boyfriend, and that her love doesn't suffocate you into insanity like it did to him."
"I know gods, ma'am. Your prayers don't mean anything to me." Steve sassed, throughly annoyed by Georgia's comments. "The only person I feel suffocated by is you."
"So be it."
She walked off back to her own house, Steve let out a puffed breath, trying his hardest to remain composed regardless of the nausea and anger settling into the pit of his stomach.
Luckily, reading the rest of the letters and clearing off the rest of the driveway did wonders to improve his mood. Though he still felt awful for the reality of what he did to you, he felt better nonetheless.
Even better after a shower, a change of clothes, and the promise of you behind your front door when he made his way back to your house half an hour before everyone else said they were going to arrive.
"Stevieeeee!" You cheered enthusiastically, opening your arms wide for him.
"Baby! It's been so long!" Steve cheered with your same enthusiasm, accepting the hug after stepping into your house.
"It should be illegal for a man to look this handsome in a t-shirt and jeans, you heathen!" Your smiley face did wonders for his mood.
"Says you, pretty girl." Steve said before kissing you. "Ooh, you smell so nice."
"Thanks, I tried." You shrugged. "How's it feel to be back?"
You started walking further into your living room, Steve trailed behind you like the big dog he was.
"Feels great" You could hear the smile in his voice. "I cleared out my driveway. Surprisingly, a lot of people are actually happy to have me here."
"I could've told you that, you should see how insane the bakery has been since everyone found out you were hanging out there."
"What?" Steve questioned, wanting you to elaborate.
"A line wrapped around the building every morning" You nodded proudly, gracefully plopping down on the couch. "Everyone from every surrounding town wants to try the same treats Captain America has been eating. We usually sell out around noon, but haven't had the hands or kitchen capacity to keep up with the demands."
"Oh gosh" Steve sat next to you, welcoming your legs being thrown over his thighs as he threw his arm around your shoulder. "I'm glad business is going well, but you and your poor employees must be exhausted"
"I was pretty worried about it when I was in custody, but I talked to the head baker not too long ago. She held down the fort perfectly."
"Has there been press?" Steve asked. "I haven't been checking local news at all, it's been a little overwhelming."
"I understand" You placed your hand on his chest to feel the comforting thumps of his heart against your palm. "Yeah, there has been. A lot of people try shoving cameras in my face or try asking me about you. I try my hardest to just be polite while not saying anything about you. Which is really hard by the way, you're my favorite person and I could talk about you for hours."
"I'm sorry that's happening" Steve sighed, gently running his knuckles down the side of your cheek.
"Don't be sorry" You grinned, reaching up and grabbing his hand. Guiding it to your mouth, you kissed the back of it. "If anything, you've brought in a ton of business and new customers. The store has never been so busy even with the other half of the population still around, so thank you."
"Nope, uh-uh." Steve denied. "The line is wrapped around the building because you're amazing at what you do. You're not allowed to accredit your success on anything other than that."
"I'd be ignorant, and it would be a disservice to not acknowledge everyone who's helped me get to where I am, I certainly didn't do this on my own." You grinned, both of your connected hands now resting in your lap as you squeezed and massaged his lovingly yet absentmindedly. "I think that's a beautiful thing, by the way. I really cherish the love and effort it takes to keep the bakery running. Every person who adds to its success story makes me love it even more."
Steve squeezed your hand and let out a sigh. "You're heart is too good for this world."
"You say that like it's a bad thing." You raised an eyebrow.
"No, it's definitely not." Steve grinned even though the residual guilt was pounding at the forefront of his brain, "Sometimes I just have a hard time believing that I deserve so much grace for everything that I've put you through."
"You're far too hard on yourself, Honey." You told him sympathetically. "You know what you've put me through?"
"Hmm?" He questioned.
"You've put me through one of the best friendships I've ever had. You've put me through facing my fear of being trusting and vulnerable to new people in my life, less lonely hours by myself in the kitchen, more time smiling and laughing, so much more time loving." You reminded him. "But you also did put me through that five mile run that one time and I'll never forgive you for that."
A real laugh escaped his throat, and you smiled in accomplishment. "That was your idea."
"I don't care." You denied with a giggle. "I didn't even know who you were yet, and I signed myself up for a run with Captain America. I deserved a warning... or an Advil... or like, a gallon of caffeine first."
"Well now you know for next time!" His cheeky smile poked through.
"Yeah... next time!" You said super sarcastically. "My point is, I can tell you feel guilty, but I don't blame you for any of it. I love you, I love that you care so much, but I just want you to relax."
Steve closed his eyes for a moment to try and get your reassurance really sink into his brain.
"We both deserve to enjoy each other without all the weird emotional strings and heavy baggage we've had with us before, and now we have a whole month together."
He leaned closer to you and laid a loving kiss on his lips. They were as sweet as him, it lasted a while, but you were perfectly happy to kiss his brain noise away.
"You always know how to make me feel better." He stated, your two foreheads pressed together.
"I'm my happiest when I'm with you." You smiled against his lips.
"I love you, baby" He stated before reconnecting your lips for a little while. The two of you stayed like that for a while, holding each other close and exchanging slow, romantic kisses. But it wouldn't be Steve if his mind wasn't always one step ahead of himself, so he pulled away when a piece of information came to the forefront of his mind. "Would this be a good time to tell you tha-"
He was cut off by the doorbell.
"No, actually, now is a terrible time to tell me." You joked with a giggle as you slowly got up off of him and the couch. "You should hold onto that thought for a few hours while we socialize then just hope you remember it later."
"Yep, I'll just live with this information for a few more hours, no problem." Steve laughed, getting up to follow you, hoping it didn't look like the two of you had been making out for ten minutes.
Company filled your house and warmed the inside of the walls alongside the parts of your soul that had felt so cold and dark for months. Friends, neighbors, and coworkers alike, you all ate dinner together while exchanging stories and laughs.
After dinner everyone squeezed in the living room around the coffee table. Uno cards and wine glasses occupied its surface while everyone sat shoulder to shoulder on the couches and on the fluffy rug. Occasional competitive shouting sounded from the area while a few of the bakers in the group had snuck into your fully stocked pantry to provide a tray of brownies and a batch of warm chocolate chip cookies.
Steve was almost overwhelmed by the sense of comfort and familiarity he hadn't felt in a long time. It was this small town magic he had always heard about. A group of people, most of whom had never met each other before, coming together and truly enjoying each other.
Just for you, there were strangers sitting together on your living room floor, a shared blanket across their laps, and giggling together after a glass of wine. Your sweet employees in the kitchen teaching your neighbor the secret to the perfect chocolate chip cookie with a gooey center and a crispy edge. You snuggled on the couch with your head resting on one of your best friend's shoulder, while Steve made his rounds and got to know everyone as much as he could.
Each one was kinder than the last, and each one asked him questions about himself. They weren't about the Sokovia accords, or what Thanos had ripped away from everyone, they were about his interests and hobbies, what he did to occupy his time, and how long the two of you had been together.
Through a mixed group of people, the one thing they all had in common was their love for you, and that was more than enough for them. Strangers became friends, and Steve finally felt like he might've been part of the small town community.
Steve's mind ran back to that same night you suggested a cardboard castle. You invited him to the neighborhood game night at Georgia and Michael's place, but rather than attending, he watched the lively get together through a double pained glass window and open sheer curtains from across the street. He remembered how isolated he felt after all that time on his own, how badly he craved to be surrounded by people who cared.
And now here he was, inside the four walls, surrounded by people who cared, and right on track to getting all he's ever wanted since his mom passed leaving him on his own at 18 years old. A family.
The Avengers were a little less than put together at the moment, and that wasn't their fault as a collective, but he was happy to have some real, normal people in his life to keep him grounded. The only thing that could've made him feel complete was if Nat, Sam, and Bucky were here.
But he had you, and you were more than enough.
Committed to forcing you to relax and enjoy yourself after all you had been through, he helped the girls clean up the kitchen, refilled wine glasses, and did all the dishes.
Then when the time come and the grip was dropping like flies, he offered rides home just in case anyone was too sleepy or had one glass to much, and stood in the driveway to make sure everyone got to their cars safely in the dark.
Of course it was a safe neighborhood and everyone lived on the block or just a few minutes away, but who would Steve Rogers be if not a protector.
As he leaned over the porch railing watching the cars drive away and enjoying the fresh, crisp air, you came out to join him. You wrapped the blanket around your shoulders around his too, and your arms snaked around his waist in a side hug.
His arm was quick to sling around your shoulders and pull you in closer before pressing a kiss on your forehead. You couldn't help the invasive smile tugging on the corners of your lips. He was happy, you could tell he was, and you were happy too.
An easy, simple, small town life with Steve was something you could imagine for yourself. Blanket covered snuggles on the porch under the stars, a house full of people you cared for, the man you loved dearly in your arms.
"How are you doing, my love?" He questioned above you, both of you looking out into the neighborhood.
"Good; happy." You said confidently. "You?"
"Good and happy." He copied your answer.
"Even better now that you finally got a homemade cookie?" You questioned knowing it was one of the things he had missed the most in his time away.
"I think I ate five, no joke." Steve smiled.
"You deserve them all." You squeezed him tight. "Will you stay over tonight?"
"Of course."
"Or we can go to your house? Whichever one you want." You threw out there. "Fist night back, we can be wherever you missed the most."
"Well I missed you the most, so I'll sleep whenever you want to sleep."
"Well we're already here, so might as well." You shrugged. "Hey, what we're you going to tell me earlier?!"
"Oh! Right!" Steve perked up. "So, remember how you like... hid me away for all that time and like... made me so happy and took good care of me and then you were abducted by the government and I yelled at them really bad?"
"Yeah," You laughed at his means of explanation. "I think I remember that."
"Okay good." He smiled. "So I thought the government owed you for A, doing super illegal stuff to you and B, doing them a favor by keeping me safe and sound so I bargained a deal with them as reparations of sorts."
"What was the deal?" You asked, eyebrows furrowing together.
"Well for all the time you spent with me and kept me from losing me mind, I made them pay off your mortgage. So, your house is completely taken care of." He smiled.
You turned to him, shock smeared across your face. "What?!"
"It's done." He reassured you. "No more home loan, you owe nothing else. It's all yours."
"Steve-" tears welled in your eyes, feeling the weight of the world slip off your shoulders.
"And for the time they took you away for the bakery, your business rent was payed off for the rest of the five year contract." He explained the kicker.
"No way." You shook your head.
"Yes way." He nodded in assurance.
"That's too much, you didn't have to do that." A tear slipped off your cheek.
Thought business was doing well again, those few months of being closed were weighing on you. Once again, this was a huge relief.
"I didn't do anything other than get you want you deserved." He reminded you. "All it took was some glaring and some yelling."
"Damnit, Baby. I didn't want to cry anymore!" You playfully yelled at him, very gently hitting his chest before he pulled you against him and you hurried your face in it.
Gently swaying you from side to side, he continued to explain. "I can't imagine life has been easy for you since we met or even before then, but any chance I have to make it better I'm going to take no questions asked."
"But this? This is a lot Steve, that's a lot of money. And the business?"
"Use the rent money to give yourself and your employees a raise. You all work hard, you deserve it." He suggested. "I told you, the Avengers are yours now and you'd get everything you deserve because of what you did. You were here exactly when I needed you. You took good care of me, so now I get to take good care of you."
"I'm so grateful, thank you so much."
"No, thank you." He kissed your forehead before you looked up to kiss his lips.
"Wow, I'm going to sleep so well tonight" You laughed, wiping the tears off your cheeks. "I'm back home, I'm feeling better, I get to sleep in a completely paid off house, and my favorite person is back here with me alive and well. That's all I could ever want."
"What if we throw in a bag of spicy Doritos?" Steve questioned playfully, raising an eyebrow.
"That's too much, that would be an embarrassment of riches." You laughed, a yawn taking over.
"Alright, let's get you to bed, Honey." Steve giggled before kissing you and sweeping you off your feet like a groom carrying his bride through the doorway.
You shrieked before laughing and tightly wrapping your arms behind his neck, peppering kisses all over his face.
Right before bringing you inside and closing the door, Steve caught a glimpse of Georgia staring at them through her window.
Now she was the one watching game night through the windows, watching love after her lover was gone, and living an isolated life away from the people she once loved.
Maybe now she'd understand Steve a little better, everything he had to go through, all the choices he had to make, the extreme isolation through the hardest part of his life.
He made eye contact and gave her a friendly grin, empathizing with the feeling of loneliness. But now he knew better, and now he felt better than he did before.
He would never feel guilty for loving you.

your character in 5 quotes
Tumblr media
Repost, don't reblog.
Tell us your favorite quotes from your character. Give us an idea of who they are by five things they’ve said. Then tag your friends.
"Come on…be brave. Take that first step to live without fear…"
"So…everyone should have told me, you know…? They’re just…too considerate… I’m not…that weak…"
"Roy…please… Don't fail…"
"I just feel that you're not a bad person. I…trust you."
"I shall make Ostia a country in which our children can always be happy."
I was gathering her lines from FE6 and decided now is a good time as any to post them. There are extra notes on my thoughts below the cut because I feel like a lot of these need context.
This first one comes from her recruitment conversation with Gonzalez. I have read her supports a lot and honestly forgot about the recruitment conversations, but they are some of my favorites.
This is right after Hector's death, she is not having a good time, but she's trying her best! What else is significant about this quote is that before this she eggs on Eliwood about fighting and joining Roy and she gets shot down twice, painting a small glimpse of how she (and women in Elibe) are treated. Granted, she is 15 at the start and he is saying this because he doesn't want her to get hurt for fear of telling Hector, but he also sends his 15-year-old son to be the tactician and leader of the army, different circumstances I guess, but I don't know really. Tangent aside, I think this also means something to her because in her mind, she was going to find out eventually, but she just feels hurt that no one told her sooner, allowing her to believe that things were (sort of) fine outside of the walls, pointing once again to that bubble she's lived in all her life.
Okay so this is her death quote. HAHA But the way I interpreted it is that she basically says: keep moving on for the sake of Lycia, for peace, even when I'm gone, keep moving forward. Obviously this is a mouthful for someone dying unless you're an Engage character, so it keeps her last words short and bittersweet.
So, the context here is this is part of her support chain with Garret. She tries to befriend him, or at the very least make conversation with him as she does with many members of the army, regardless of station. The reason for me choosing this one is that thinking about what she's been through and what trust and honesty mean to her. You could look at it through two different lenses, one being she is just pure-hearted and believes there is good in everyone; this is true by the way. And the other being that she was betrayed by rebels under Ostia's banner, so I'd imagine that there is at least some reluctance to trust others, though her natural instinct is to do so anyway according to her supports/conversations. But to this end, she does give reasons later about why she does aside from "just a feeling"/intuition, that if he was going to kill her, he would have done it already. As she talks to people in the army from different walks of life, this aids her understanding and emotional maturity we see throughout the game.
This one is almost a red herring because the real star of this support chain is Ogier/Oujay. He has such banger lines that make me c': For a boy so young to have such sad but powerful lines... when in Fire Emblem... But anyway, talking about the quote, this one is kind of my least favorite out of the ones I picked but dialing back from the emotional maturity she does eventually develop, we see in this support just how out of touch she is with the rest of the world. She's very concerned in the moment with making friends and learning more about him that she doesn't consider the world they live in. Like, he says their family was poor and he's the breadwinner and she presses him with casual questions about his family like the small talk you would hear in school or something. Girl... But I think it works out in the end as it shows not only her flaws, but she admits to being so hasty and ignorant and tries to be more open-minded.

Chapter 10: An ambitious proposal
It was a fast morning at the banner, after a couple of hours of work Gordon was tormenting all his employees as an important event had occurred: The mysteries of Raven Brooks were finally in the hands of experts they could trust, he was showing neutral with the news but at least he was interested in keeping them up to date with what was happening in the town.
"NORMAN!" Gordon exclaimed. You know those letters don't stop to just insert themselves and now, I need that note! Show me what you learned from the first two weeks. "almost sir." Just the last details. "I hope this is okay" Brave and confident, he went straight to his editor's office, to "get his approval."
"Come in" Norman walks cautiously into the office, even though he had confidence in himself he was still afraid of the editor of his banner since he always said behind his back that he was "mysterious and intimidating".
"Good boy, now give it to me and I'll check, these days there are so many errors in the grades but all those are idiots, this is not done here". He widens a bitter smile.
While he read the note he went to close the door of the room, surely it was something that only he could hear. Only his murmurs and gestures could be heard, it seemed that he had found something; he slowly raised his eyebrow and looked at them askance.
“I'm impressed, two intensive weeks and ya got it.”
"Not bad, Darby," he guffaws. "All you have to do is put pictures so it doesn't look like a bible" Ironically he says. I will do it, Lord." Norman quickly gets out of there and wrapped up towards his workplace.
And? Doubtful his companions told him. He liked my note! He smile warmly. You deserve it my friend, all that week without rest was surely exhausting. Jay says.
-It wasn't a big deal, but being in his office is something. . . uncomfortable. You'll get used to how he is, it wasn't easy for me either.
"What do you think?" Eleanor mentions. I admit that it is too early for you, although we can say that you will do an impeccable job. I exchange a look with Adelle.
-Your proposal sounds interesting before we proposed one that we had planned. What we meant was to start analyzing each phenomenon from scratch, that is, seeing how these happen and of course taking note- You have a point. We're pushing hard and we do not want to spare false rumores, don't we?
Then he and Eleanor exchange a look with much to say, until they agree on the same thoughts and mind: “When you feel ready with the information you have collected, come so we can start with the proposal.” We assure you that this investigation will be worth it.
After the not-so-exhausting meeting with the Tavishes, we headed back to the station so we could continue. -It's a very good idea that we don't rush things, don't you think so? I nod while keeping my eyes straight ahead.
-I also think the same, it is too early to be able to start with this new proposal but in any case, we will end up inserting all the phenomena. Sometimes we forget to make each phenomenon with its own section so we decided to put it together later.
. . .
As Norman left the office, Jay began to talk to him about what the banner itself was like, sometimes it was very demanding or sometimes they required that the news be delivered on time as it was made present to him. There was so much talk that he wanted to invite him for a coffee, he only knew a delicious muffin while they talk comfortably without interruptions.
"I don't know much about places to eat but this is one of my favorite places when I'm done" he says sincerely looking around him. How have you been feeling lately?
Well, fortunately every day I have felt perfectly.
-I'm glad to hear that.- What if you worked with someone who possesses great knowledge. I don't know, you can help them in their search or help them by posting news about them. He tells him as he drinks some coffee.
Did you know that two meteorologists will collaborate with the town to discover their phenomena? - Imagine being the journalist who helps them publish their great feats. Jay is surprised to see a spark in his eyes, says nothing but assures him that they might be chosen.
-Today it will rain and it will be an opportunity to study it.- I comment. True, that's why we can't miss this opportunity, who knows if it rains in the next few days.
After spending several hours in the basement working, I decide to go upstairs to do a few hours. Sometimes I tend to 'sew' in my downtime, each garment I see torn makes me anxious to see it like this, which is why I decide to repair it and make a new one, I think Theodore would be a good name for the baby, with Peterson it would be fine, but I need a last name more
Among all the torn fabrics I have, I found a yellow one. "It's not a bad color" I grab it and spread it out on the table and get to work. «While the bird sings, the flowers lose their color» Adelle hummed from time to time some other song, despite the voice she had, it was a very beautiful singing voice, Roger has always admitted that since the first time he had ear
After it hasn't rained for a long time, the drops finally fall in favor of the meteorologists, without hesitation they use their little weather station. -Here we go.- They take out the device and go back in to wait for the results, with the help of the small camera they had to see what was happening. Still despite everything there was no anomaly but what she had noticed is that the rain did not stop until the next day so it was not common.
And so I spent the following days, it did not stop raining until it finally stopped a week later. . . so that it won't rain for several days or weeks perhaps.

Dissidia Final Fantasy: Opera Omnia Dimensions’ End Transcendence Final Tier
The Dimensions' End: Transcendence Final Tier or Tier 16 Shinryu (level 300) quest just started in the Dissidia Final Fantasy: Opera Omnia (DFFOO) mobile game.
Tumblr media
If you bring a char equipped with a Burst or BT weapon to a Transcendence battle, the entire party’s stats will be enhanced.
This is the last Dimensions' End: Transcendence quest.
Dimensions' End: Transcendence Final Tier Party Information
Initially, wanted to bring Weiss the Immaculate from Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII to this fight. Was thinking of going with a team of Weiss, Setzer Gabbiani from Final Fantasy VI, and either Aranea Highwind from Final Fantasy XV (#ad) or Iris Amicitia from Final Fantasy XV.
Don't have Weiss yet though. He'll be the latest playable char here in Dissidia Final Fantasy: Opera Omnia, and the banner featuring all of his weapons is coming really soon.
So my plan was to wait for Weiss before trying to clear the Dimensions’ End: Transcendence Final Tier Shinryu quest. But I soon realized that that wasn't really a good idea. That's because the rewards for clearing the aforementioned fight includes multi-draw tickets that can be used on Weiss's upcoming banner.
In short, it was best to clear the Final Tier now so I can make use of those multi-draw tickets to pull for Weiss. Maybe I can just try this quest again once I already have Weiss. For now, gonna need to come up with a different team comp for my first clear of this quest.
There's a time-limited mission that wants players to clear the Dimensions’ End: Transcendence Final Tier Shinryu quest with Setzer in the party so he's automatically part of my team.
Plus, I did pull for his BT and FR and just finished fully building and maxing him out so want to use him. I talk more about my Setzer pulls in another post.
So my team for this fight was Setzer, Aranea, and Dorgann Klauser from Final Fantasy V with Pandemonium as my summon.
Tumblr media
My Calls were Rydia's from Final Fantasy IV, Lilisette's from Final Fantasy XI, and Sazh Katzroy's from Final Fantasy XIII.
Rydia's LD Call gives the party a buff that will let them evade 3 attacks. This buff has no turn duration and will only disappear once a char has successfully evaded 3 attacks. Brought this Call for extra protection, just in case.
Sazh's Calls buff the party. Lilisette's Calls debuff the enemies. Her LD Call also heals the party.
Dorgann, Aranea, and Setzer are as fully built as possible with all of their weapons MLB, all of their Boards and such completed, etc.
As a Green Crystal char, Dorgann has access to 3 Green Crystal Passives. He's currently equipped with my Level 5 of 5 Sword Ultima Weapon while Aranea has my Level 3 of 5 Spear Ultima Weapon.
Dimensions’ End: Transcendence Final Tier Shinryu Quest
This fight has 2 waves. The first wave has 1 enemy, the Lunatic Shinryu (First Form). The second and final wave also has 1 enemy, the Lunatic Shinryu (Second Form).
Got to start this fight with my force gauge already charged to 50%. Didn't have a force gauge charger in my party so just had to wait until my force gauge was fully charged. Thankfully, the force gauge of the enemy here charges pretty slowly so didn't need to worry about him being able to go into his force time first.
While waiting for my force gauge to be fully charged, had everyone activate or refresh their buffs and such. Used Lilisette's regular Call.
When my force gauge was nearing 100% already, had my chars use their Additional Abilities and BT+ finishers. Used Sazh's LD Call, Lilisette's LD Call, and Rydia's LD Call.
Setzer is a debuffer slash support slash buffer. He lets the party deal rainbow or maximum brave damage. He can battery the party and he can delay enemies by 1 turn. He can also inflict enemies with the Freeze debuff.
Dorgann deals physical and wind elemental damage. His main gimmick is doing a follow-up attack every time a char breaks an enemy.
Aranea is a physical DPS who can break and rebreak enemies. She can also delay them by up to 2 turns although that's not really good for this fight since if you delay the bosses here by 2 or more turns, they will instantly warp their turns to the front. So just made sure not to use Aranea's delaying skill.
While Aranea's BT+ effect is up, she will initiate launches every time she moves. She will join in at the end of these launches and do a follow-up attack that deals lots of damage.
IIRC, the boss didn't get to move at all. Being able to break and rebreak him helped to push his turns back.
Anyway, once my force gauge was fully charged, activated Setzer's FR already. By then the boss was down to 50% HP and his force gauge was at 58.3%.
Tumblr media
After activating Setzer's FR, started using the party's Force Echoes. A bit later on, decided to summon Pandemonium already. By then the boss was down to 8% HP. Still have 10 turns of force time left and the HP damage bonus was at 220%.
Tumblr media
It was currently Dorgann's turn. Used one of his Force Echoes, and that was more than enough to finish off the Lunatic Shinryu (First Form).
So my summon was still up when I got to the second and final wave. The Lunatic Shinryu (Second Form) has multiple lives. So he'll just keep reviving himself until he gets to his last life.
Anyway, used the rest of my Force Echoes. Also had Setzer inflict the boss with his Freeze debuff.
Tumblr media
When the summon ended, the boss automatically did some attacks but Setzer's Freeze debuff and Rydia's LD buff made sure the party didn't take any damage.
The enemy currently has 1% HP. It was Aranea's turn. Had her use her Ex ability. This finished off the boss but he quickly revived himself.
Tumblr media
Whenever Aranea breaks an enemy, she immediately gets another turn. Since she was able to break the boss when she used her Ex, she got another turn.
Went into her Burst+ phase already. By then have 7 turns of force time left and the HP damage bonus was at 830%. The boss was down to 82% HP.
Tumblr media
Aranea was able to deal lots of damage. Whenever she broke the boss, Dorgann would do his follow-up attack. It didn't take long before the HP damage bonus was at the max of 999%.
By the time Aranea was about to cast Outstanding, her finishing Burst+ move, the Lunatic Shinryu (Second Form) was down to his last life and he was at 1% HP.
Tumblr media
So right after Aranea's Burst+ phase was over, the battle ended on turn 14.
Tumblr media
Got the score and all the other mission requirements which also got me the Perfect.
Tumblr media
Surprisingly, this fight wasn't that hard, or maybe it's just because of my team. Everyone did so well. Even with only a Level 3 of 5 Spear Ultima Weapon, Aranea was still able to deal lots of damage.
Tumblr media
Conclusion
So, how ‘bout you? Which characters did you use to clear Dimensions’ End: Transcendence Final Tier or Tier 16? What do you think about the Shinryu quest in this Tier? Feel free to share your thoughts and opinions by leaving a comment below or by reblogging this post.

part two | masterlist | wattpad
Tumblr media
"C'mon, work you stupid phone," I complained for the millionth time, before standing on the chair to get a better signal.
When I saw the bars in the corner of the screen increase, a grin appeared on my lips. I loved my parents, but the fact that they lived in a remote cabin in Tennessee with zero signal was not my favourite thing.
When the bars remained, my phone decided to actually be helpful and receive all the messages, calls and voicemails I missed. I did a brief flick through, noticing nothing was too important that couldn't wait for me to return to work. As an FBI agent, I rarely got time off. And now that I had taken a two month vacation to spend with my parents, I was adamant on enjoying it, even if I was missing work a smidge.
Next were the calls, which I noticed were mostly from my colleague and close friend, Jane Banner. I furrowed my brows, realising she'd left me several voicemails, too, which was strange since she knew I was on a break from work. What could be so important?
I sighed, glancing down at my uncomfortable position standing on the chair and leaning above the wardrobe. It was the only place in the house with decent signal and the only other place that wasn’t in the middle of nowhere was twenty minutes out. Telling myself I'd just listen to one voicemail to make sure everything was okay, I played the earliest message.
"Hey, Y/N. I'm sorry, I know you're on a break, but I just had to talk to you," it began, and Jane sounded troubled. "I was in Vegas, as you know, but I've been called out to a reservation in Wyoming where this poor girl was–" She paused, releasing a shaky breath. "She was raped and left to die out in the cold. I thought I could send in another team to take a look – y'know, usual protocol. But the coroner won't rule it a homicide and you know what that means."
I swallowed hard, knowing exactly what that meant. If it wasn't ruled a homicide, no backup would come and we had to move onto the next case. But if this girl was raped and left to die, the rapist was still out there and wasn't getting caught by the FBI.
"I can't just leave it and go," Jane continued quietly, with that recognisable passion for her job evident in her voice. "I have to do what I can. But I... I can't do this alone. It's not like other cases, Y/N. It's different out here. And there's only so much their police department can do. I know you're on a break, but I was hoping that, maybe, you could come out here and help me? It's the Wind River Indian Reservation. That's it, I guess. Bye."
The message ended and I found myself chewing on my lower lip anxiously, unable to think about anything other than Jane now. She'd worried me with that one voicemail alone – I couldn't imagine what the others said.
She was usually so good at dealing with cases, but this seemed different. She sounded shaken up, attempting to put on a brave face by the sounds of it. What was so different about this case? She didn't need me. She was capable.
Curiosity got the better of me and I played the second message, ignoring the discomfort in my arms as I stretched to maintain the signal. It was left a day after the first one.
"Hey, so I just remembered that you said you don't get much signal up there with your parents," she began apologetically. "I don't mean to– shit, it's so cold..." There was a pause, a noise in the background, then she continued, "Sorry, just turning up the heating. Anyway, I was saying. I don't mean to intrude on your break. I just– I'm hoping you'll find signal and hear this because I could really use your help. I think we've got a lead on who may have done it. It was hectic today. Really could've used that backup."
She chuckled dryly at her attempt at a joke, but all I felt was guilt. She sounded exhausted within a day of being there.
"I hope you get this," she finished with a sigh. "I should go. Got a busy day tomorrow. Hope you're doing okay. Bye."
I wasted no time in playing the next message. Three days into her case.
"I don't know why I keep sending these," she began with a hoarse voice, and my heart clenched at the sound of it. "You clearly aren't getting them in time. But it's easier talking to you like this than not at all."
It went quiet, so quiet that I thought she may have finished and forgot to hang up. But then she spoke up again, a whimper escaping her lips.
"It's so hard," she admitted. "We've covered worse cases, but this one... everything about it makes me uncomfortable. Something doesn't feel right. I've got a lead – we think it might be the boyfriend who did it and we're gonna see him tomorrow. But I don't know."
I frowned, squeezing my phone tightly because I didn't recognise the girl speaking as my friend. This girl sounded broken and I wondered what she could have discovered that made her like this.
"I've got the police department with me for backup," she said with a sniffle. "And Cory, he's a hunter whose been helping me with the case. They're all gonna be with me tomorrow. But I wish you were here, too. You always make things easier."
The lump in my throat wouldn't disappear no matter how many times I swallowed it. She made things easier, too. Always. And all I wanted to was be by her side and be there for her like she always was for me.
"Sorry about this," she said with a watery laugh, and I could imagine the embarrassed smile on her face as she did. "I sound like such an idiot. Never mind these messages. Just enjoy your break. I shouldn't be worrying you like this. See you when you get back."
The message ended and I checked to see if there were anymore, but to my disappointment, there wasn't. That message was from a few days ago and she hadn't sent anything since which was concerning in itself.
Trying not to panic for no reason, I called Jane. Hopefully everything was okay and I was being stupid. She was a fully-trained FBI agent. She could take care of herself. Right?
The call rang and rang, but nobody picked up. One missed call. No biggie. She probably heard it and couldn't find her phone or something. So, I tried again.
More ringing and no answer. Okay, no big deal. Just try again.
Another call and no answer. The chewing on my lip became more intense. Why the hell wasn't she picking up? Was she still working the case?
I waited an hour, trying again at ten minute intervals, unable to fight my concern. But there was no answer every time and I realised that I couldn't sit and wait for her to call back. Not after how she sounded in those voicemails.
No, I had to go there. She needed backup.
Wyoming was way colder than I could have prepared for.
I mean, technically, I prepared for nothing. I bid my parents a goodbye, threw some random clothes in a bag and caught the next plane over there. I tried for Jane's phone constantly, knowing she was never one to ignore me for this long, but there was no point. She wasn't answering, which could only mean so much.
When I reached the reservation, I had no idea where anything was or what I was looking for exactly. I just knew that as soon as the taxi dropped me off in the centre of town, I didn't know where to go.
There were a lot of locals hanging around, so my first port of call was to ask them if they'd seen Jane around – or Agent Banner, as she may have introduced herself. I showed them a picture of her on my phone, described her with vivid detail, but they just stared at me like I was crazy. I was starting to believe I was at one point, until I stopped by the convenience store.
As worried as I was for Jane's whereabouts, the chill in my bones was real. Especially my hands, which I was certain would fall off any minute. So, I decided to buy some gloves and also ask the cashier if he'd seen Jane around or heard anything of her. Whilst I was doing that, a customer caught my attention, probably having overheard my conversation.
"Did you say Jane Banner?" he asked with a quirked brow, interrupting my purchase. "The FBI lady, right?"
I nodded quickly, facing him. "Yes, that's her! D'you know where she is?"
He nodded casually. "Yeah, she's in the hospital. That big shootout that happened a few days ago, right?"
My stomach dropped. "The what?"
"The shootout," he repeated, not aware of the concern in my face. "At the drill site. A bunch of officers were killed and the FBI lady was one of the only one left standing." He tutted as he shook his head. "Very lucky that one."
A shootout? The hospital? Only one left standing? No wonder she hadn't been answering her calls.
"Can you– do you–" I stopped, clearing my throat and trying to stop freaking out. "Which hospital?"
After getting the address from him, I caught a taxi to the only hospital in town and prayed to God that Jane was okay. The one thing she'd asked for was backup and I couldn't even give her that. If I'd just looked at my messages sooner... fuck.
Getting past the front desk and to Jane's room was no issue at all. A quick flash of my FBI badge was enough for the receptionist to give me the details and wave me through. My heart was constricting in my chest the longer it took. What if it was really bad? What if that customer's intel was outdated and Jane was– no. I couldn't afford to think like that.
Upon finding Jane's room, I spotted an older man leaving through the door, being careful to close it behind him. I didn't recognise him at all.
"Excuse me," I called, earning his attention. "Is that Jane Banner's room you just came from?"
He seemed surprised, glancing over his shoulder to make sure I was speaking to him, before nodding. "Yes. Sorry, who are you?"
I pulled my badge from my pocket and showed him, though I doubted anyone would take me seriously when my eyes were watering at thought of Jane being severely injured.
"I'm her friend," I said, swallowing down the lump in my throat before lowering my badge.
"Oh, you're the backup that didn't come," he said with realisation.
My eyes flickered to the floor guiltily. He wasn't exactly wrong.
"I didn't mean it like that," he added quickly. "Sorry, I didn't mean to upset you."
I shook my head, lifting my eyes to meet his. "It's okay. I should've... I should've been here." It went quiet as he didn't know what to say, so I looked to him halfheartedly. "I assume you're from the police department, one of the ones who helped Jane."
"Not exactly," he said, before putting out his hand for me to shake. "Name's Cory. I'm a hunter by trade."
Returning his handshake, I recalled Jane's voicemail. "Oh, yeah, she mentioned you... thank you for helping her out."
When I couldn’t, I added in my head.
He offered me a small smile and I couldn't find it in myself to return it. I must have looked like shit, since he gave me a pitiful gaze.
"You want me to catch you up before you go in?" he asked, nodding to Jane's door. "She's okay by the way."
I nodded, sucking up a breath. My nerves were eating away at me the longer I didn't see Jane – half of me was terrified of what I'd find, and the other half was afraid she'd be upset or angry because I left her to it, even when she pleaded for my help.
Cory and I took a seat down the hall and he proceeded to explain about the case and how they found the guy who raped that poor girl. The shootout was the worst bit, making me shiver with discomfort. Apparently, Jane had gotten blasted with a shotgun, puncturing her torso and neck despite the vest she wore. All of the officers with her were killed and by the sounds of it, Jane almost was, too. But Cory managed to take out the criminals and the rapist himself. When he was finished telling me, I had no words.
"She's a bit shaken up, but her surgery went well," Cory reassured with a short nod. "Does she know you're coming?"
I shook my head, voice thick with emotion. "She wouldn't answer her phone. I guess I know why now."
Cory nodded, rubbing the back of his neck before sparing me a consoling glance. "She talked about you a lot. I think it'll cheer her up seeing you. You should go."
My eyes met his, teary and stinging with unshed tears. "Thank you so much."
He shrugged bashfully, but he didn't realise all that he'd done. I gave him a small, tight smile before standing up with a sigh. No point dwelling anymore – I had to see her.
Pushing my selfish feelings aside, I sucked it up and approached Jane's room. She would either want to punch me or not, but either way, I had to see if she was okay. And so, when I opened the door slightly, heart racing in my chest, said heart jumped in my throat at the sight of her.
She was laying on the bed with wires stuck in her and, only from what I could see, bandages were covering the side of her neck. I thought she was sleeping at first, but then her head tilted towards the door curiously, and bright blue eyes widened with disbelief.
"Y/N?" she asked, raising her eyebrows. "What are you– how did you get here?"
I closed the door behind me and hesitantly approached her bedside, unable to stop my eyes from soaking in the sight of her. She looked so feeble and vulnerable and unlike how I saw her last. Then, Cory's words came back to me and I began to imagine the worst scenario of her getting shot, blood seeping from her wounds, the life draining from her eyes...
"Y/N," she called, and I looked to her startlingly, hoping I didn't look as troubled as I felt.
"Sorry," I said, clearing my throat. "I, er– the messages. Voicemail. I heard them and tried calling you back, but..."
She pursed her lips, exhaling with a wince and looking up at the ceiling, as if suddenly remembering she left messages in the first place.
"I'm sorry I didn't come sooner," I said quietly, guilt seeping back in.
"No, no, don't be," she said, and I just about noticed the pink dusting her cheeks. "It's not your fault. I shouldn't have interrupted your vacation like that. I know you said you wanted a break and–"
"Jane, no, don't even say that," I cut her off, reaching for her hand in an instant. She looked my way, eyes flickering between mine nervously. I squeezed her hand gently and said, "I should have been here. You needed me and I– I didn't come. Maybe if I had, this could have ended differently."
She tried to smile, but I could see the discomfort in her eyes. "It's not that bad, honestly. It just looks bad."
I pressed my lips together, eyes falling to the bandage on her neck. Even though it was big and covered her wound, I could still make out the bruising around it from the impact of the shell. I didn't imagine the torso wound looking any different, and that thought alone made me regret leaving her alone. It was very much as bad as it looked; I knew that and she knew that.
Her lips trembled as she avoided my eyes, her own tearing up. I pushed away my guilt momentarily and changed the subject.
"So, I met Cory. He seems like a great guy."
She didn't say anything as she seemed lost in thought. Either that or she was trying not to cry in front of me. I hoped it wasn't the latter, since the last thing I wanted was to make her feel uncomfortable.
"You know," I said, when she wouldn't speak, "I'm pretty sure I told you to stay safe before I left for my vacation."
At my poor attempt to lighten the mood, she cracked a small, tight smile, but a smile nonetheless, and my racing heart slowed down momentarily.
"I'm glad you're okay," I said, now that I had her attention again, and she looked my way with a softened expression. "Kind of okay. But you know... okay."
Thankfully, she knew what I meant and her hand tightened around mine.
"I'm glad you came," she returned, and I couldn't look away even if I tried. She was always able to trap me with a single gaze.
With a tug of her hand, she motioned for me to sit on the edge of her bed, so I did. And then she began to ask me about my vacation, what I'd been up to this past month, how my parents were... basically anything and everything except for the case. And it was understandable, since she was reminded of it all the time. If I could be a form of escapism for her, so be it. It was the least I could do.
We spoke for hours until the nurse came in to let me know visiting hours were over and I'd have to come back tomorrow. With a regretful sigh, I got up from my seat on her bedside and stretched my limbs.
"Where are you staying?" she asked, a slight frown on her lips.
I smiled awkwardly, realising I didn't think that far ahead. "I'm not gonna lie, I don't know. I came straight here. There's gotta be a hotel or something in this town, right?"
She nodded and flicked her hand to the shelves on the other side of the room. "You should stay in my room in the inn. Key's in my bag over there."
"Oh, I don't have to do that–"
"Y/N, it's not like I'm going to be staying there anytime soon," she cut me off, smiling halfheartedly. "Please."
I chewed on my lip and nodded, giving in. When I grabbed her keys from her bag, I stopped by her bedside and gave her a supportive smile.
"I'll back first thing in the morning, if you don't mind," I said, and she finally gave me a smile that reached her eyes.
"I'd like that."
I nodded, resting a hand on hers and squeezing comfortingly. "Goodnight."
Though I knew Jane was okay, I still couldn't stop myself from thinking about her all night. The sight of her wounds and the broken expression on her face was enough to keep me awake. And the guilt that came with it all... why couldn't I have just picked up my damn phone?
As promised, I returned to Jane's hospital room the next morning, this time bringing some breakfast snacks from the hospital cafeteria since I knew the food would be much better than whatever they were serving her. Judging by the content expression on her face when I gave it to her, I was right.
When she finished eating, she was able to sit up slightly and move over on her bed, urging for me to join her and watch some TV with her. There was no way I was going to turn down that offer, so I slid next to her and kept a packet of sliced apples between us as we watched whatever was playing on the TV.
About halfway through watching, she spoke up randomly, taking me by surprise.
"When are you leaving?"
I tore my gaze from the screen and realised she was staring at me with intense green eyes.
"When you're well enough to," I answered truthfully.
She looked down to her hands. "You don't have to stay with me. You can go."
I studied her profile, knowing it was the wrong time to appreciate how stunning she looked even when she was makeup-free, sporting a bed head and tired.
"Do you want me to go?" I asked softly, afraid I may have overstepped.
She was quick to shake her head slightly, finally lifting her gaze to meet mine with glossy ones. "No."
I nodded, trying very hard not to smile, cleared my throat and grabbed her hand. "Then I'm not leaving. I'll be right here until you get better and I can take you home."
A ragged breath escaped her lips as she nodded in response. We both looked back to the TV and I noticed she didn't let go of my hand, her fingers warm to the touch and giving me goosebumps at the contact. But I wouldn't have had it any other way.

Please check out Part 3 if you haven’t, I think tumblr hid it for some people :( I promise it’s worth it.
You open one eye and look at Wanda sitting next to your bed.
“You should go help.” You say softly, but you cough violently right after.
“The battle is over. After you closed the portal, it got easier. All things considered.” Wanda stands up going to you. “Now go back to sleep, you need to rest. You almost died.”
“Please.” You dismiss her with your hand. “I almost die a lot.”
She chuckles at your response, but you agree with your head, because you are feeling tired anyway, and slowly you let yourself fall back to sleep.
When you wake up again, it doesn’t feel like much time has passed, but Wanda is nowhere to be found. You sit up on the bed, looking around. You get a glimpse of yourself in the window and your eyes widen. Wow, you look a lot worse than how you feel. You look like you’ve been in the middle of an explosion. Oh, wait. Did you really go to outer space? On the list of your life’s bad decisions, this is definitely number one, easy.
“Hey!” You hear, and turn to the door to see Wanda there. “You up. How are you feeling?”
“A lot better than how I’m looking.” You say, making her smile softly at you.
“Stark sent this for you.” She shows you a box of donuts and your mouth drops, almost comically. “He said if you didn’t like donuts, you were probably insane.”
“Well, donuts happen to be my favorite food, so-” You raise your arms, and she gives you the box. “Come on, let’s share.”
You open the box and find a little sticky note there, with a scribbled handwriting
Donuts are for geniuses who save the world - Mr. Playboy
You smile, ripping it off the box and shoving in your pocket. Wanda sits next to you, and you smile at her, before diving in for the food.
“So, is everyone ok?”
“Yeah, pretty beaten down and tired, but we won.” She shrugs, and you agree with your head. It feels good to hear this. We won. You’re a part of it, and she wants to make sure you know that. “Well, we couldn’t possibly have done it without you.”
“Oh please. Mister Thor could have gone to space, or I don’t know, anyone else?” You shuffle in bed uncomfortable. “It’s not like I can actually breathe in outer space.”
“Wait, what?” Wanda’s brows are pinched together at the sound of that. “And you went anyways?”
“Well, we needed to close the portal.”
“Thor could have gone. Do you realize you could have died?” She looks shocked by the revelation and you smile.
“Yeah, but it was either me or millions of people back on Earth.” You shrug, then push her with your shoulder. “Besides, I didn’t, right?”
“You’re a superhero alright.” Wanda says making your smile open wider. That sounds good. Really good. “You know the fight is over, right?” She asks and you agree with your head, mouth full of donuts. “Strange can send you home.”
“Oh.” You look at her, cleaning the corner of your mouth with the back of your hand. “Yeah. That’s great.”
“Wait.” Wanda leaves your room, but comes back a minute later with a polaroid camera. “So I don’t think I’ve imagined you.”
“Oh, you totally did.” You smile, looking at her, sitting in bed next to you. “I’m pretty sure we’re all in a very elaborated dream caused by an imp from the fifth dimension.”
“I have no idea what you’re talking about.” She says, and you shrug, throwing your arm around her shoulder and making a funny face.
“Take two.” You ask and she agrees, taking another one, where the both of you are smiling.
“I don’t mean to interrupt the fun.” Vision appears in your bedroom, coming from a wall, and you jump in bed from the scare.
“Vis! We talked about this. The door is right there!” Wanda points at it, and you laugh.
“Oh come on, if you could phase into a room, I’m pretty sure you wouldn’t use a door.” You tell her and Vision agrees with his head.
“It’s not exactly phasing, I’m just manipulating my density so I can become intangible.” He corrects, and you and Wanda look at each other holding a laugh. “Well, I came to offer you my services.”
“How come?”
“You are looking, if you allow me to say-” He asks and you nod so he goes on. “Rather beat up. I was thinking I could use the solar energy on you, to help your recovery.”
“That would be really helpful, in fact.” You say with a smile, and he agrees, getting ready to shoot you with it.
It all happens too fast. One second Vision is shooting you with solar energy, next second a portal is opening up in the bedroom, and the very next Supergirl is throwing herself on him, yelling:
“GET AWAY FROM MY KID!”
It’s so fast, it takes you a few more seconds to acknowledge the whole scene going on before you.
“Vision, don’t engage.” You ask, standing up. And you look at Wanda. “Wanda, stop her!”
“Stop me?” Kara yells in shock and Wanda quickly separates your momma from Vision with her powers. She involves your momma with it, making it impossible for Kara to move.
“What are you doing?” You ask Kara, who just looks at you so in shock like she doesn’t know what to say.
“He-He was shooting you with a… With that thing on his head!” Kara justifies herself and looks at Wanda on the other side of the room. “And she’s doing whatever this is.”
“He was helping me!” You look at Wanda again, giving her a little nod. “She’s going to put you down if you promise not to engage again.”
“I-I’m-Ugh! Fine!” Kara reluctantly agrees and Wanda puts her down.
“Guys, these are my moms!” You point to Lena and Kara on the other side of the room, and run to them so you can hug them. Kara holds you tight, while staring at the heroes on the other side of the room. “Ok, momma.” You try to get out of her embrace. “Momma, can I hug mom now?”
“Oh. Ok.” Kara finally let’s go, and you move to Lena’s arms. But you see Kara is still in a defensive position, ready to get into a fight at any moment.
“Hey.” You hold her arm. “You can relax now. They’re my friends.”
“No, they’re not. They kidnapped you.” She says without taking her eyes from them.
“We didn’t, actually. She decided to stay for the battle.” Vision corrects her, and you see that Kara is not buying into it.
“What battle?” Lena asks, with furrowed brows.
“Long story! Anyways, you guys are here now.” You look at the device on Lena’s hand. “And that means we can leave.”
“Aren’t you going to say goodbye?” Wanda asks. “To everyone else?”
“Yeah. Let’s go outside.” You guide your moms out of the compound, and look inside with a smile on your face. You know this was your house for less than two days, but still felt pretty good to be here. You press the comm on your ear. “Smart mouth to Mister Playboy.”
“You better have left me some donuts, kid.” You listen coming from your comm, and you smile harder. Well, if donuts are for geniuses who saved the world, he certainly deserves some.
“Come outside.” You ask, and it doesn’t take long for him to show up at the front door. He walks towards you, well-aware of what these two women behind you mean.
“So, you’re leaving.” He says matter-of-factly, and you nod. “Finally.” You smile and roll your eyes. He comes closer and raises his hand at you. You shake it. “We had a good run.”
“We did.” You agree, because he is right. All the bantering, the jokes, him having your back, picking you up while you fell from the sky. It was a pretty good run.
“Ok. I don’t do sentimental.” He says, but still looks at Lena and Kara, nodding like he’s saying hello. “Just make sure she knows that she helped. What she did was very brave, and also somehow very stupid-” He raises his eyebrow at you. “But mostly very brave for someone her age. I’ll be sure to keep in touch whenever I need a little hand here.”
“Maybe with a grown up this time?” Kara says and he waves her off with his hand.
“Nah. I like the kid.” You can see a tiny smile in the corner of his mouth, but he fakes it. So, you hold back your smile too. “Did you guys bring your own portal, or should I call Strange to send you back home?”
Lena shows him their portal, and he agrees with his head.
“Guess you weren’t lying about L Corp.” He says, looking at the logo on the device, and you agree with you head. “Then, expect a bill coming soon.”
“Bye, Mister Playboy.” You wave goodbye and he shuffles pretending to be unbothered by you leaving.
“Bye, smart mouth.”
Lena turns on the device and you’re almost walking through the portal, when you see the rest of the team showing up.
“You forgot to say goodbye to some people.” Stark says and your smile grows wider, looking at everyone in front of you.
Kara looks shocked by the amount of people in the garden, looking sad about you leaving. Her hand goes to your shoulder, protectively and almost scared they’ll take you from her again.
“Hey, kindergarten.” Bucky is the first one to talk. “Thanks for the help out there.”
“Nice work there, kid.” Cap comes forward with his hand raised so you can shake it. You do so. “Thanks for the back-up.” He smiles softly, baby blue eyes turn to your moms, assuring. “Great kid! You should be proud.”
“Forgive me about the kidnapping part.” Strange comes forward and you smile down, while Kara throws a possessive arm around your shoulder, and Lena holds your arm, which makes you smile harder. “She was of great assistance. She fits right in.”
“Superkid, daughter of Kara and Lena, good fight out there. If you're ever in Asgard, come join me for a beer.” Is Thor who talks next.
“Thor, she is a kid.” Banner says, making you, and some other Avengers, laugh.
“Nonsense.” It’s Thor’s answer. “This girl can lift Mjölnir when none of you were worthy enough to do it. For a mighty warrior like her there shouldn’t exist Midgardian rules like such. She can have a beer if she wants to.”
You look up to Lena who discreetly shakes her head in denial to you. You shrug.
“It was nice meeting you, science pal.” Banner says and you smile at that. “Thank you for the lesson about the multiverse.”
“Thank you for the lesson about nuclear physics.”
“Sorry about the gunshot, kid. Nice fight.” Natasha says and you agree with your head. “Your Earth is lucky to have you.”
“Thanks for making fun of Bucky.” Sam fist bumps you and smiles, listening to Bucky mumble something like ‘I made fun of her’. “Oh yeah, and for the fight thing.”
“Here.” Wanda sneaks in something in your pocket and smiles at you. “It’s what you’re thinking.”
“I’ll see you around. Around the grey area, maybe.” You say, hugging her and she hugs you tight for a minute, before letting you go.
“And we’ll survive together.” She agrees with her head, and smiles at you.
“Is that everyone?” Kara asks, looking at you and you agree with your head when you don’t see Vision.
“Excuse me, Superkid. I would like to personally thank you for your help and care towards Wanda.” He appears before you, coming from out of nowhere.
“Vis.” Wanda says, blushing a little.
“I hope we fight together again. It’s always refreshing seeing someone genuinely good in the world.” He says and it’s your time to blush. “I won’t keep talking longer. Your moms must be eager to take you home, as we are to keep you here.”
“She’s going home.” Kara’s firm grip tights around your shoulder.
“Unless she wants to stay.” You hear Stark’s voice and you smile, knowing he is absolutely messing with your moms. “There’s always space in the compound, if she agrees not to break it. And as Strange said, she fits right in.”
“We thank you for your offer.” Lena answers, slowly pulling you and Kara back to the portal. “But we have to go now.”
“Of course. Of course.” Thor says, winking at you. “You obviously can’t stay here, but Asgard waits for you. You call, and I’ll send Bifrost for you.”
“Ok! Well, I don’t know what Bifrost is, but she is not traveling to another planet. Say goodbye now, baby.” Kara asks, squeezing your shoulder and slowly walking backwards.
“Bye ‘the Avengers’! Whenever you guys need a hand, Cape-guy knows where to find me and Thor can send Bifrost! I hope we meet again soon.” You smile, and Kara pulls you into the portal before anyone else says anything.
“Oooof, that was close!” Kara says, after Lena closes the portal behind you, and she looks around to make sure you three are alone. “I actually thought they would keep you right there.” She breathes in relief, when she realizes there’s no reason to worry anymore because you are home. She hugs you tight and Lena joins in the hug too. You three stay there for a few good minutes, until you make motion to move.
“No, no.” Kara says still pulling you in. “We’re still hugging. You’re not going anywhere.”
“Momma.” You look up to her face. “I’m not going anywhere.” You assure her and she lets you go slowly.
“I’m sorry little one, but you made a lot of friends.” She reaches for your cheek, stroking it gently. “And they seem to like you very much. And all of them were so impressed by you that they wanted you to stay.”
“I know!” You beam excitedly. “Even Mister Stark.”
“Yeah!” Kara agrees looking at Lena from the corner of her eyes, and she whispers to your mom. “Who’s Mister Stark?”
“Isn’t he the one that said you did something very brave, but also very stupid?” Lena asks and you open a forced smile at them. They raise their eyebrows at you.
“I may have gone to outer space and kicked off a bomb that would close the connection between the worlds, and I almost died while doing so.” You say with the same forced smile, while they realize what you just said.
“You may have or you did?” Lena raises an eyebrow at you.
“I may have did.” You shrug. “But I didn’t die!”
“You don’t say.” Lena pulls you in for a hug again, kissing your forehead. “Is there a way for you and your momma to save the world without putting yourselves in dying conditions?”
“No.” You and Kara say at the same time, earning a sigh from Lena.
“I’m sorry for making you guys worried. They needed help in this battle and I, well, I helped. And also, Mister Strange said he left a card?” You ask and they agree with their heads.
“It could’ve been more direct, though.” Lena says and she and Kara exchange a look. “But he did leave the directions, at least.”
“So, tell us everything. About everyone. I can’t wait to hear about your adventures.” Kara asks excitedly and you smile feeling the same way.
“Sure. But can it be over pizza?” You raise an eyebrow at them, and they agree with their heads.
You look down to what’s in your pocket, and you pick it up to look at the picture of you and Wanda making funny faces. Next to it a sticky note signed by Mister Playboy himself. You can’t help a wide smile that comes to your lips. Good. It wasn't a very elaborated induced dream from an imp of the fifth dimension. It was real. All of that. The fight, the jokes, the friends. Everything was real.
“Ready, kid?” Kara asks and you put both items back in your pocket.
“I am now.”

“Psst!” you turned around in search of the voice.
“Psst! Y/n!”
“Wanda?”
Wanda was the town witch. She lives right behind the kingdom’s castle in the woods and often visits you when she gets bored.
“Hey I’m waiting for shit to do it’s thing and I remembered the pretty king was supposed to come today,” she said winking.
“Indeed. He and his colleagues are having breakfast right now.”
“And you’re out here because?”
“The Queen and Charlotte joined them.”
“Oh, ew.”
“I’m rather fond of the Queen, she’s like my mother,” you said.
“I was talking about Charlotte. Anyway, have you seen him?”
“Of course. I was the first to greet them.”
“What does he look like? Is he old and ugly looking for fresh meat?”
“No, actually quite young to be a King in my opinion.”
“Is he handsome?” she quirked.
“I don’t think I’m allowed to say.” you avoided. There was no way that you were going to tell Wanda about how incredibly jealous you may be of Charlotte. She gets the chance to possibly marry one of the most beautiful men you’ve ever laid your eyes on. How you kept composure when you first saw him will forever remain a mystery.
“So he is handsome,” Wanda interrupted.
“Pardon?”
“You know I can read minds.”
“Right.”
“So tell me how did you keep your composure? Also I must meet him now that he’s got your panties in a bunch. I don’t think I’ve ever seen you so flustered over a man. Not since-”
“I’m not flustered! And yes, he is quite handsome but he’s here for Charlotte.”
“So you have zero chance?”
“Not that I want one but yes.”
“That sucks.”
“Excuse me,” King James startled you both.
“Your majesty,” you both said bowing.
“Do you know where I could find the king’s advisor? Bruce, I believe.”
“Ah yes. I can show you the way if you’d like?” you responded.
“Yes please. But allow me to find my own advisor before we head over.”
“That’s alrig-”
“James. I apologize for my tardiness,” a man with blonde hair said approaching you guys.
“Y/n, this is my advisor, Vision. Vision, this is the king’s lead knight.”
“Hello. And hello there,” he looked behind you where Wanda was hiding quite poorly if you do say so.
“Wanda it’s alright. I’ll be back.”
“He’s cute. I like him,” you heard her say in your head. You had to stifle a chuckle but proceeded to lead the men to Doctor Bruce Banner, the king’s advisor and doctor of the castle.
“Good afternoon, Dr. Bruce. I’ve brought our guests King James Barnes and his accomplice advisor Vision.”
“It’s wonderful to meet you, Vision.”
You watched the men interact and felt yourself becoming a bother to them so you slipped out quietly and went ahead to look for Charlotte. Bucky, clueless to what the men began talking about, also slipped out the room following close behind you.
“Miss,” Bucky called for you.
“Yes? Is there anything you need? I was just about to fetch Charlotte for you to meet.”
“Oh that’s wonderful hope you don’t mind if I tag along. I have no idea where I am,” he laughed. God, his laugh was beautiful. Smooth like butter.
“No need to fret. So tell me about yourself.”
“Well, my parents died young so I’ve been King for quite too long now.”
“I’m sorry about your parents.”
“It’s alright. They were quite sick, nothing could’ve saved them. I had married Elizabeth but she too grew sick and passed away not long ago. My people demanded a queen so when your king had offered his youngest daughter I figured I’d come for the sake of my people.”
“You’ll like her,” you hesitated. Charlotte was pretty awful.
“Really?” He sounded skeptical.
“I will not speak ill of the king’s daughter. It is my job to protect her,” you hesitated.
“So no?”
“No.” you gave in.
Charlotte was in her room with Bucky’s friend Natasha completely talking her ear off. When you and Bucky arrived her eyes grew wide and she sighed in relief that she doesn’t have to talk to her anymore.
“I have to go,” Natasha said to Charlotte.
“But-”
“Charlotte, the king is here for you,” you announced.
“HI!” she shouted, startling everyone in the room.
“Good fucking luck,” Natasha whispered to Bucky.
“Come let’s go,” she grabbed your arm and dragged you away.
You nodded to Charlotte and closed the doors. You stepped to the side to guard the door when Natasha had halted turning back to you.
“What are you doing?” she asked you.
“I’m guarding the princess’s room. There is an unknown man in her room and I must be here to make sure she’s safe.”
“Bucky isn’t gonna hurt her.”
“You never know.”
“Well, I want to chat with you. I like you. Wasn’t expecting a woman to be a lead knight. You should meet with Sam Wilson and Steve Rogers. They’re Bucky’s most noble knights and I think you’d like them.”
“And if the princess is harmed?”
“Have another guard protect her.”
You were contemplating because meeting with the other knights did seem more appealing than standing in front of the princess’s room all day. Thor, one of your more admirable friends within the army, also the king’s personal guard, was walking down the corridor, probably keeping watch for there were many unknown guests in the castle.
“Thor!” you shouted, bringing attention to you and Natasha.
“Good evening, dame.”
“Would you be able to guard the princess’s room while I speak with King James’s knights.”
“Of course.”
You bowed your head and walked with Natasha back to the dining hall where the men.
“Boys, I brought her.”
The men’s eyes grew wide as they walked toward you to greet you with enthusiasm.
“Good afternoon. I’m Sir Steven Grant Rogers and this is Sir Sam Wilson. We are noble knights and loyal friends of King James Barnes. It’s a pleasure to meet you.”
“Thank you as to you, I’m Dame Y/n L/n; though I’m sure you knew.”
“We truly admire your bravery and skill as a knight and especially as a woman. It’s rare to see someone like you excel in power the way you do,” Sam said.
“Why is it so hard for men to believe that women can be and are strong and brave like men,” Natasha nudged your arm.
“Couldn’t tell you,” you joked.
“Y/n, I have a young knight back home that I believe would deeply appreciate your intel and advice on fighting and chivalry. Would you ever be interested in teaching the lad? Assuming this marriage goes well,” Steve asked you.
“Well, even if not I don’t see why we can’t keep an alliance. I would love to,” you responded.
“How did you become a knight?” Natasha asked you.
“Well, I was born to thieves and they were captured by the king. They were cowards however and took cyanide instead of pleading a case. I was eight at the time. The queen found me and practically took me in as her own. I wasn’t too fond of the pretty dresses and crowns. The queen had me learn to fight and now here we are. I’ve been a lead knight for years now. Until the last battle against the rebels but we hadn’t needed the army since then so now the king has me as his youngest daughter's personal guard.”
“What happened at the battle?” Natasha asked.
“I wouldn’t rather talk about that,” you whispered shyly. It was a horrible day for you and your men. You won but not without lots of bloodshed and loss.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t-”
“It’s alright.”
“Y/n!” the king called for you.
“Yes, your majesty?”
“Show our guests to their rooms and make sure everything is in order for the celebration in a few weeks.”
“Of course.”
You led them to their rooms and little did you know Bucky had listened to almost everything you had to say to his friends. He had to step away from Charlotte as she was simply speaking ill of the kingdom’s chefs and maids and you at some point. She also talked extremely high of herself, too high.
Unlucky for her, he was beginning to grow more fond of you than the girl that wouldn’t stop talking about herself moments ago.
The celebration he and many kings had been invited to was only a few weeks away. And Bucky and his friends would be staying with the king until then. He was determined to get to know you in every way possible. He hoped that you would let him, until then he was going to have to pretend to be interested in the brat that was the king’s daughter.

The First Day
With his worn out backpack over his shoulders, the straps digging into Harry’s skin with how much things he’d stuffed inside, he made his way into the building. There was a large Welcome Back banner over the front entrance. The colorful walls were something he’d greatly missed. The summer holidays weren’t nearly as fun for him, not when he was forced in his cupboard when he wasn’t working on his chores. Harry disliked his outdoor chores the most because not only would the heat be unbearable at times, but the faint noise of kids his age shrieking happily whilst they played would reach his ears, reminding him of how he couldn’t have fun like that.
But it didn’t matter now.
Now they were back in school and Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon had to let him out. He was in Year Four and felt very grown up. He’d even grown an inch or two since last year so that meant he didn't need to use the foot stool to use the water fountain anymore. He was thoroughly glad because his height was one of the many reasons Dudley and his friends made fun of him. But it wasn’t his fault he was so much shorter. Maybe his parents had been short, too.
Harry was lost within his own thoughts. He didn’t see a foot coming out of nowhere. Consequently, he tripped and let out a squeak of alarm. He face planted right on the marble tile. Behind him, there was some laughter. Harry’s face scrunched up in pain, slowly sitting back up. Out of the corner of his eye he saw the culprit: Piers. Piers was one of Dudley’s friends who often came around and was extra mean to Harry for no reason.
“Better watch your step, Potter,” Piers jeered.
Dudley came into Harry's vision next. “Good one,” he laughed like it was supposed to be clever.
Harry pulled his knee up close, grimacing. It was skinned already, bleeding a little, too. He glared up at them with as much intensity as an eight year old could muster. “That wasn’t very nice.”
Dudley and Piers made faces, imitating his words in exaggerated voices.
“That isn’t very nice! Oooh!”
“Stop it!” Harry didn’t like being mocked.
“Stop it!” They repeated in sync. “Stop it!”
Piers snuck a mischievous glance over at Dudley, snatching Harry’s glasses right off his face.
Harry jumped to his feet. “Give those back!”
“Give those back!” Piers mocked him.
“I mean it! They’re mine !” Harry’s heart quickened. He hoped Piers would give them back before the bell would ring. He couldn’t go through the rest of the day without them.
“Now, now, where are you manners?” Piers teased. “Didn’t anybody teach you some?’
“Nah,” Dudley chimed in, “he’s an orphan. He didn’t have anybody to teach him.”
They laughed.
Harry did not.
Piers turned to Dudley, grinning wickedly. “What should I do with ‘em?”
“Break them!” Dudley burst out gleefully.
“No!” Harry erupted.
“Mum and Dad won’t get him another,” Dudley told Piers.
“Please, Piers, don’t do it!”
“What’s in it for me?” Piers twirled the glasses in his hand.
“I don’t know,” Harry looked desperate. He’d be willing to do just about anything so he could see properly again. “What do you want?”
“Gimme your lunch,” Piers ordered.
Harry’s body slumped. “My lunch? But what am I gonna eat?”
Piers shrugged, holding his hands behind his back and trying to pull off a sad look on his face. “I guess you don’t want your glasses after all.... ”
He started to walk away. “No, wait!” Harry said quickly. He clumsily rummaged through his backpack through his blurry vision, coming across the plain brown sack he had his lunch in. “Here.”
Piers’ eyes widened greedily. He tossed the glasses to the side, eagerly digging through to see what goodies were inside. He threw out whatever he wasn’t interested in eating, which ended up being a plain turkey sandwich and a tiny bottle of water. “What’s the big idea?” He demanded. “Where’s all the good stuff?”
“He can’t have any,” Dudley jeered. “Freaks don't get sweets.”
Harry finally found his glasses. He got up and while he kept his eyes to the floor, he said bravely, “I’m not a freak.”
“Yeah you are!” Dudley insisted. “Mum and Dad says so!”
“You mean say so,” Harry quietly corrected.
Dudley didn’t like that all much. He shoved Harry to the ground, much to the amusement of the gathering crowd. They laughed at him when he went crashing to the floor on his back. It sent pain up his spine. “Freak!” His cousin shouted.
It got the other kids to chant as well. “Freak! Freak! Freaky boy!”
Harry hurryingly grabbed his backpack and his lunch items that Piers threw to the floor, pushing past the crowd as he went to his classroom. The laughter became distant after a while, but it still hurt nonetheless.
///
Harry went inside the colorful classroom. There were posters all over the walls, some were for measurements, others were for maps and reminders for how to make a sentence with the right punctuation or if one needed to know how to not make a run-on sentence. He stood near the door, glancing around. The desks were close to each other and oh! They had lids that lifted up where you could put your things inside!
“Hello there,” A pretty lady with soft looking light brown hair and a sweet smile came over to him. She had on a bright yellow dress and her hair was curly and bouncy on her shoulders. “I’m Miss Kelli. What’s your name?”
“Harry Potter,” Harry said shyly.
“It’s lovely to meet you, Harry,” Miss Kelli smiled. ‘Why don’t you take a seat? We’ll get started shortly. You can sit anywhere you like.”
“Okay,” Harry nodded and surveyed the room. Most of the seats were empty except for one desk that was next to the large window that faced the playground. A boy was sitting there all alone. His clothes were worn, like somebody had already had them before he did. His hair was dark brown, almost black like Harry’s own hair and he seemed to be frowning. Maybe he was upset because no one was sitting with him?
He went right over to him with a beaming smile on his face. The boy looked up. He didn’t say anything, he only stared. “Hi I’m Harry!” Harry extended his hand but the boy did not shake it. “What’s your name?”
The boy still didn’t speak.
“Did you hear me?” Harry tilted his head. Maybe he needed to be louder. “I said my name is Harry. What’s-”
“I heard you,” the boy said, annoyed.
Harry furrowed his eyebrows. “Why didn’t you say anything, then?”
“I didn’t want to,” The boy said coolly.
“You don’t have to be mean,” Harry frowned. “I was only asking.”
“Well don’t ,” The boy glared at him as if he caused all the problems in the world. Kinda like how Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon did.
“What’s going on here?” Miss Kelli came by, looking down at them, namely the boy, sternly. “Are you two getting along?”
Harry didn’t want the boy to get in trouble on the first day, even if he was a grouch. “We’re fine, Miss Kelli, honest.”
“You didn’t sound fine,” she wasn’t convinced. “Tom, you sounded upset. What’s wrong?”
So that’s what the boy’s name was.
Tom crossed his arms, another scowling coming out. “I’m fine,” he ground out.
“Tom, we don’t talk to people like that,” Miss Kelli said patiently. She pointed to a poster to the left of them, it was all about how to express yourself in a positive and helpful manner. “Do you see that over there? When you’re feeling angry, you need to take a deep breath and try to focus on something else. You don’t take it out on other people, okay?”
Tom huffed out a puff of air. “Fine.”
Miss Kelli said a few more things before she went back to her own desk. Harry stood there feeling awkward, like he was intruding on something. He waited until the teacher was gone to say anything else. “M’sorry,” he whispered. “I didn’t mean to get you in trouble.”
Tom spared him a two second look. Then he went back to looking down at the wooden desk.
“Can I sit down?” Harry asked, tentatively inching his way closer. Tom didn’t respond. But he also didn’t move or explicitly say no, so he took that as encouragement to sit down. “Are you new?” He decided to ask while taking out the materials he needed for the day. “I haven’t seen you around before.”
“No,” Tom said shortly.
“Really?” Harry was surprised. “Oh.”
A moment later, he had another question. “Were you in Miss Isobel’s class?”
The younger years were separated into two, sometimes three different classrooms depending on how big the year was. Harry’s year had lots of students so there were three classrooms for fourth years. They all had different schedules so that was likely why he didn’t notice Tom until now. It was strange, though; usually someone stayed with that same group until they were finished with primary school. They weren’t moved to another group unless they'd done something really bad. Tom didn’t look bad. He seemed harmless.
“Or Mr. Kenny’s?”
“So what if I was?” Tom grumbled.
“Why are you in this class then?”
“None of your business,” Tom told him.
“But why?”
“Because I said so.”
Harry got quiet after that. That’s what Uncle Vernon said during the rare times when he broke the Dursleys rule of asking a question.
///
“We should be friends,” Harry declared during art class. Miss Kelli took them to another room filled with artwork on the walls, easels in the corners and smocks hanging up to wear over their clothes. The easels were placed in rows and they were to sit at one next to their desk partner. They were allowed to paint whatever they wanted.
Tom was using a tiny brush dipped in green paint. He’d made a giant snake and was currently working on the scales. He paused, looking just like Aunt Petunia, as if he’d swallowed something unpleasant. “What?”
“We should be friends,” Harry smiled.
“No,” Tom said bluntly.
“Why not?”
“I don’t want to.”
“But why ?”
Tom gripped the brush much harder than before.
////
Tom was sitting alone at lunch. Just like in Miss Kelli’s room, he saw at the table that was furthest from everyone. Even though he declined Harry’s suggestion that they be friends, he was still going to try. Maybe Tom was having a bad day. No one talked to him at all. It was like Harry's situation, only this wasn’t because Dudley had scared the other kids. People just seem to naturally avoid Tom.
Poor Tom
Harry felt bad for him. He must have definitely been lonely. That only proved to him that Tom needed a friend. He couldn’t be by himself forever! So he made his way over there. He tried to be quick about it; Dudley was coming into peripheral vision.
“Hey freak !”
Harry sat on the bench, doing his best to ignore his cousin. “Hi,” he said.
Tom stared.
“I told you I didn’t want to be your friend.”
“Okay,” Harry said instead of arguing with him. “But I have nowhere to sit. Can I sit here.”
Tom muttered something he didn’t quite catch.
“Where’s your lunch?” Harry peered at him, his eyes brimming with curiosity.
Tom glowered at him.
It dawned on Harry in that minute. “Do you not have any lunch?”
Tom crossed his arms, his gaze wandering elsewhere. The faintest hint of red appeared in his cheeks.
“Do you want some of mine?” Harry offered. “I haven’t got much, only a sandwich and water. But you can have half of it.”
Tom looked like he didn’t believe him. Not until Harry unevenly tore the sandwich in half. He gave the bigger piece to Tom, who had a flash of surprise on his face. He hadn’t expected to be given anything. Harry glanced around, wondering how he could give Tom some water. He spotted a stack of plastic cups on a wheeling cart not too far from them. “You should get one of those,” he said. “I’ll give you some water.”
“Why?” Tom narrowed his eyes.
Harry blinked innocently. “Aren’t you thirsty?”
A few seconds passed by.
Tom got up to fetch the cup. He dropped the cup in front of Harry, watching determinedly as if to ensure that he was actually going to oit. And he did; he poured half of it into the cup and slid it back to Tom.
He didn't immediately dig in like Harry thought he would. In fact, he was just looking at it. Like it was some strange object.
“Do you not like it?” Harry asked. “I don’t have anything else but I can see if I can bring something different tomorrow.”
He watched as Tom’s eyes lifted from the sandwich to meet his own.
“Why did you give me this?”
“You looked hungry,” Harry said.
“You don’t even know me.”
“That’s alright,” Harry said. “I don’t mind. I’ll share with you tomorrow too if you want.”
Tom seemed like he was pondering his words and then very slowly he took a bite of the sandwich.
////
He didn’t know if he should go up to Tom this time. He was under a tall tree with his knees pulled up to his chest, glancing over at the fence. Harry wanted to; he wanted another chance at talking to him. But the other boy was giving off a feeling that made him reconsider; it was just like when Uncle Vernon had a bad day at work. He would go to his chair after coming back. Aunt Petunia knew better than to disturb and she’d tell Dudley to go find something else to do than watch the telly, which usually upset him until he was promised a new toy or a day full of fun with whatever he wanted to do.
Harry stood in the middle of the playground, watching him. He didn’t see Dudley coming up behind him until it was too late. He was yet again shoved, falling to the ground with one swift swipe. Harry turned on his side, looking up at his cousin with dread filling in his stomach.
“Leave me alone, Dudley,” Harry’s knees were aching.
“Why should I?” Dudley sneered.
“You’re being mean!”
“Aww,” Dudley mocked. “Is the freak gonna cry like a whittle baby?”
“I’m not a baby!” Harry jumped to his feet.
“Yeah you are!”
“No I’m not!”
“Yeah you are!” Dudley said loudly. “You’re a baby! Baby, baby !”
“Stop it!” Harry said hotly.
“Stop it,” Dudley imitated him.
Harry glared as fiercely as he could. He really wanted to wipe that look off his cousin’s face but he didn’t want to be grounded to his cupboard. Instead, he stormed off towards the tree Tom was under. He’d seen the whole thing, evidently. His expression was impassive as Harry plopped down.
“Do you know him?” Tom nodded toward Dudley’s direction.
“He’s my cousin,” Harry scowled for the first time that day. “He hates me.”
Tom only hummed. “He’s stupid,” he said at last. “He still can’t even remember his times tables.”
That brought a smile out of Harry. It was true; Dudley still struggled with previous years’ material. It was one of the reasons why Uncle Vernon and Aunt Petunia got mad at Harry whenever he did better than Dudley.
Tom’s eyes landed on Harry once again. It made him feel like the other boy was staring deep into his soul or something. “Does he hurt you?”
“Huh?” Harry blinked. “Er, sometimes.”
“Sometimes how ?” Tom said impatiently.
Harry squirmed. He wasn’t supposed to talk about that. “Er, well-”
“Don’t bother lying to me,” Tom said sharply. “I can tell when people are.”
“I wasn’t,” Harry insisted. He fiddled with his hands under the scrutiny of Tom’s gaze. “Er, well, he hits me sometimes...and he has this game he plays with his friends, Harry Hunting.”
Tom arched an eyebrow.
A flush came over Harry’s face. The stare made his fidgeting worse. “They like to chase after me. Once Dudley’s friend Piers....he held my arms and Dudley punched me.” He grimaced, just remembering how painful his stomach was to the touch for weeks after.
Tom’s cold gaze lingered on Dudley, who was a ways away, standing in front of a smaller boy, holding up his fist threateningly. “He’s a coward,” he spat. “Only bloody cowards hit people.”
Harry pulled out a wrinkled piece of parchment paper from his pocket and a couple of crayons. He was continuing to work on the picture he’d started this morning during their free time in Miss Kelli’s classroom. He still listened to what Tom was saying.
“-wonder how he’d like it, getting hit back,” Tom said in a scarily calm voice.
Harry’s head snapped in horror. Was Tom going to try and hit Dudley back? He didn’t want him getting hurt. He couldn’t, he just couldn’t! He’d be outnumbered.
“You’re...you’re not going to do anything, are you?”
Tom only smirked.
////
They were released at the end of the day. The younger years had to wait to be picked up by their parents but fourth years could walk home if they wanted to. Harry hurriedly grabbed his things, rushing down the hallway--but not running--so he could catch Tom in time before he left. The entrance doors flew open; he stood at the top of the cobblestone stairs, looking out for him. The sun was shining, a warm shadow coming over his face. He brightened up when he saw Tom at the end of the walkway, about to turn right.
He rushed down there. “Tom! Tom!”
Tom made a face when he saw him but it didn't hurt Harry’s feelings. He came to an abrupt stop in front of him, breathless and panting to re-catch his breath.
“What?” Tom said grumpily. “What do you want now ?”
Harry grinned toothily, but also a bit shyly. “I made you something!”
Tom blinked.
He held it up; it was a stick figure drawing of the both of them. Harry was drawn in red and he colored Tom in bright green. With a hopeful gleam in his eyes, he presented the drawing to him. He rocked on his heels. “Do you like it?”
Tom kept his eyes on the drawing, staring at it in wonder. “You drew this for me?” He demanded.
“Yeah,” Harry nodded. He pointed to the corner of the paper where Tom’s name was scribbled in. “See? It has your name on it. Well, do you like it?”
“It is...acceptable,” Tom decided on. In a whisper, he added, “Thank you, Harry.”
Harry beamed. “You’re welcome!”
There was a tiny smile on Tom’s face.
Both boys were quiet. The only noise came from the chirping birds, the cars that passed by and the chatter of the other children. That is, until the doors came open again and Dudley ran out. Harry’s hands flew up to his mouth, his shoulders beginning to shake with laughter.
Dudley had a bucket over his head and apparently, he was having difficulty getting it off. “Mummy!” he wailed, running around helplessly. (Harry wondered how he didn’t fall on the stairs). “Mummy, help!” Dudley’s friends tried to run after him, yelling for him to stop so they could help. He did not do that, however. He kept running until he hit a tree and fell right on his back.
Harry laughed.
“Oh, I wonder if he’s alright,” Tom said in a voice that suggested he felt oppositely. “Wouldn’t it be a shame if he was hurt?”

There went my heart (One Shot)
Bucky Barnes x reader
Summary: A new nurse starts working with the Avengers and she takes an immediate liking to one blue eyed, metal armed super soldier. The best part is that he likes her too.
Words: 2.5K
Warnings: None, I think.. Fluff

How does one starts working with the Avengers? Or rather for the Avengers, but these are just technicalities, really.  Truth is, she had no idea! It seemed as if she was just a very lucky person. When Tony Stark offered her to be a part of the medical team alongside Helen Cho and Bruce Banner, she wasn't dumb to decline. It's not that she wasn't happy working as a nurse in one of the many hospitals of New York, but being able to work with the Avengers themselves, was really something else. And she couldn't wait to meet them all and introduce herself.
On the first day of her new job, most of the team was away on a mission, so she only met with the other nurses and lab assistants. She was walking around the med bay, getting familiar with her surroundings when one of her new colleagues, a dark haired nurse named Jessica, called her from the door of the lab.
"Come on Y/n, we have to get ready. The team will arrive in 30 minutes and Captain Rogers informed us that they need medical assistance. Several team members were injured in this one." As the other woman finished speaking she ran towards the infirmary room to prepare for their arrival.
No longer than the 30 minutes Captain America had informed, several people came barreling through the doors of the infirmary. A red head woman that she recognized as Black Widow was leaning heavily on Steve Rogers' shoulder, one of her hands putting pressure on her side. One of the nurses moved quickly towards them to assist. Following was Sam Wilson, walking alone but with a small limp and just a black eye. He seemed to keep himself up fine, but another nurse ran to him too, tending to whatever little wound he had. Sitting in a chair to let the nurse do her job, his voice a little gruff as he spoke. "Someone check on Bucky, a bullet pierced his shoulder through."
She turned her head towards the door where Bucky had entered last, a scowl on his slightly pale face, but Y/n couldn't help but see that he was in fact a very handsome man, despite his current state. No camera, no matter how advanced its lenses were, could ever do justice to that man's beauty.
Next to her, she felt Jessica go stiff and shift her feet slightly, but not daring to move. Y/n was thinking she'd be the one to take care of him since she'd been working in the compound longer than she had, but seeing the other woman had no intention of leaving her spot, her professional training kicked in and before she knew it, Y/n was walking towards Bucky where he had already taken a seat in one of the cots.
His shoulders were slumped and his head was hanging low, so she carefully cleared her throat to make herself present. She didn't want to startle him or hurt him in any way, so with a soft voice, she spoke up. "Hello Sergeant Barnes, can I take a look at your shoulder?"
At the sound of her voice, he picked his head up to look at the person who was talking to him and he was surprised to see a young woman standing so close to him, he had no idea how she had gotten this close without him noticing. Her light skin complexion, illuminating more under the artificial lighting made her looked like an angel. Yeah, Bucky was surprised, but good surprised. He only nodded his head, not trusting his voice to speak up, but that was all she needed to begin working. Her touch was light as a feather as she cut his shirt to take care of his wound. He noticed she was careful as she touched him, almost cautious, but it wasn't because she was scared of him, not at all. She just didn't want to inflict him any more pain that he was already enduring, and that warmed his heart like nothing and no one had done in decades.
His eyes were glued to her face as she worked, the tip of her tongue poked out in concentration as she tended to his wound and Bucky thought she was nothing short of adorable. He was lost in thoughts of her and he didn't even feel her cut the thread as she finished sewing his wound. She put a clean bandage on it and with a small smile playing on her lips, she spoke up again. "I'm done."
Bucky moved his eyes to look anywhere but her face as he mumbled a "thanks" and a blush crept up his neck and cheeks in an instant. He felt as if she had caught him daydreaming about her; in fact he'd been so lost in his head he hadn't even felt the needle pierce his flesh at least a dozen times as she sewed him up. But could anyone blame him for losing his mind when she stood so close to him looking like an angel?
It was later that day when the Avengers were all cleared from the med bay and sent to bed rest, after cleaning and putting things back to place, that she had a chance to sit for a few minutes to catch a breath. Jessica sat in the chair next to her, her hair a little disheveled from the many times she'd carded her fingers through it. She let out a sigh before speaking. "So, how was your first day? Were your expectations for this job met?"
Y/n let out a small chuckle at her questions. "It was great really. I mean, working with superheroes is really something. But I loved it. I'm happy to be here." She said sincerely.
"Yeah, about that. You were really brave to walk up to Barnes today." At that, the smile that was playing in Y/n's lips dropped in a second, only to be replaced with a small frown, a crease forming between her brows. She waited for Jessica to continue speaking, to explain what she meant, so she silently tilted her chin up to nudge her to speak again. "It's just that he's kind of scary, you know..." She started and Y/n's brows only furrowed more. "You know of his past, right? You know what he has done, everyone knows. Plus he's always wearing a scowl on his face, as if he hates everyone around here. None of the nurses work with him, only dr. Cho or dr. Banner take care of him when he comes in."
Y/n couldn't believe what she was hearing. He was still being judged for his past, for something that wasn't his fault at all.  She knew he was a victim just like every other person he'd been forced to hurt and kill. She scoffed in annoyance at her co-worker's words, the other woman's eyes widening in surprise at the reaction.
"I can't believe you're saying this. None of that was his fault, you know that, everybody knows that. Yet here you are, judging him for something he had no control over. He's a war hero, you know. He gave his life for this country once and he's doing it again everyday he goes out on a mission, just like the rest of the Avengers are." A fire was ignited in her chest, a strong desire to defend the man and that's what she was doing. She would defend him in front of the whole world, she decided right then and there, if it was needed. "You should be happy to have the honor of taking care for him afterwards, not talk behind his back."
Jessica only lowered her head, in shame or something else, Y/n couldn't tell, but she was glad to have given her a piece of her mind, plus it made her shut her mouth. She got up from the chair and took off her white coat, her job for the day being finished. She was ready to go back home and get a good night's sleep after a really active first day.
The next couple of months passed in a blur, really. Everyday she'd get up and go to work, weekends too.  After all, there are no weekends off from saving the world. Doctor Banner was kind enough to give her a day off every week, but most of the time she refused because she had no better place to be.
During this time, Bucky would enter the med bay more times than she could count, but she never complained anyway. His presence was always welcome to her, and if it was up to her, she'd be happy to have him there every day. Just to see him. Most of the time he came in with the pretense to see Bruce, others he'd be back from a mission with several cuts and bruises that Y/n was always ready to tend to.
She was conversing to one of the other nurses, listening to the other woman talk about her 14 years old daughter and her challenges as mother of a teenager, when she heard someone clear their throat behind them. She quickly turned her head around, only to be met with Bucky's figure, a sheepish look in his face.
"Hi." She said, a little breathlessly. No matter how many times she saw him, he never ceased to amaze her. He was so handsome she wanted nothing more than to smother him with hugs and kisses every minute of every day. She shook her head lightly as if to get rid of those thoughts and got up to walk to him.
"Hi, doll." He replied and she blushed at the pet name. He'd started calling her that a few weeks ago and now it stuck. And she liked it more when he called her 'doll' than her actual name. Before she could ask him what was he doing there, he showed her his arm, a slash on his bicep and blood dripping down the entire limb.
Her eyes widened at the sight and she quickly grabbed some cotton balls and antiseptic, urging him to sit on one of the chairs before she started cleaning the blood off of his arm. "What happened?" She asked as she wiped the blood, throwing one cotton ball in the garbage can and grabbing another.
"Knife training with Nat, I lost focus and didn't step back in time so she grazed my arm. It was merely an accident." He explained and when the blood was cleaned she could see it wasn't that deep of a cut anyway. She still continued to nurse the cut though, silently dabbing  the cotton and applying an antibiotic ointment as to not get it infected.
"I didn't think a super soldier could lose focus." She replied with a playful smirk on her lips and Bucky smiled down at her.
"I guess there's just a lot in my mind lately." His words were accompanied with a small sigh and she didn't dare ask him more, for fear of overstepping a boundary or something. She finished with his arm and was about to move away, but he grabbed her wrist with his metal hand, preventing her from moving too far.
She turned her head to look at him, a questioning look in her eyes. "Thank you doll." He said simply and she returned his smile with one of her own.
"You're welcome." She replied simply despite his touch causing her entire body to flush with warmth and she tried again to move away from him - suddenly the closeness was too much. He only tightened her grip on her wrist, enough to let her know he didn't plan on letting her go, but not enough to hurt her in the slightest. Her heart was beating fast inside her rib cage and she knew he could hear it too, the thump thump's almost echoing in the otherwise silent room.
She realized then they were alone in the infirmary, the other nurse had left without so much as a word.
She could only stare at his face, his eyes locked to hers, a look she couldn't really place, before he spoke again. "No, thank you Y/n." The use of her name surprised her a little. He hadn't called her that in a while, opting to go for doll instead. "For being so kind to me. Kinder than anyone had been in a long time."
"Bucky..." She wanted to interrupt him, to say something, but he shook his head a little before speaking again.
"Before you, none of the nurses would take care of me, always glancing in my direction in fear and suspicion, as if I'd lash out and go all psycho on them. But then you came, and you walked to me, so soft and caring and with a touch so light I thought you were an actual angel." His words were causing her to blush a deep shade of pink but she didn't dare interrupt him again, scared that if she did all of this would have been a dream, a figment of her imagination.
Without even noticing, the hand that was holding her wrist had moved slightly towards her palm and their fingers were intertwined. She lowered her head to look at their joined hands and a smile formed on her lips, her thumb moving to caress his metal knuckles.
"Doll, forgive me if I'm outta line now but if I don't tell you this I think I'm gonna die in the spot." At that her eyes moved up to meet his expectantly, hopeful. A spark that she'd come to see more and more of lately was glinting in his own eyes and she could only wait for him to continue speaking. That he did. "Ever since the moment I saw you I felt something I hadn't felt in decades and doll I like you so much and maybe all of this is my imagination, but I think that you like me too and I was really hoping you'd want to have dinner with me sometimes?" He finished a little breathless, despite having spoken the words so slow as if he was afraid she'd miss it if he didn't enunciate each one of them.
The smile on her lips kept widening with each passing moment and she squeezed his hand in hers a little before speaking up her answer to him. "Bucky, I'd love nothing more."
A wide smile mirroring hers bloomed on his lips and all he could do was stare at her in admiration, not wanting to ruin the beauty of the moment with any other word or move. After a few minutes in silence, only staring at each other lovingly, Y/n finally found her voice to speak again. "Bucky?"
"Hmm..?"
She cleared her throat before speaking, taking a small moment to muster up the courage to speak the next words, but she couldn't help the blush that deepened in her cheeks as she spoke.
"I was really hoping you would kiss me."

I posted this on Saturday but I really need people to hear this
There was a protest in my city today, by a group called ‘white rose’. They were protesting lockdowns, masks and vaccinations. They’d stuck up stickers all over a certain area, outside a library, near a university campus, and around a park. It scared the shit out of me, seeing the people in town, with about 10 police officers keeping the 25-50 protesters in a tiny (and incovenient tbh) space, not too far from where they’d put up the stickers. As I was walking home, I found some of the stickers, and tore down as many as I could see.
Some of the stickers were obviously theirs- meme templates from reddit, claiming the government was lying about the pandemic to stop people from ‘living their lives’, saying ‘the media is the real virus’ and ‘if you tell a lie enough times it becomes the truth’ and all sorts of shit. Some other stickers were much more inconspicuous- little round ones with a pair of hands tenderly holding a blue dove. Around the edge they said ‘I do not consent to another lockdown’ and ‘I do not consent to get vaccinated’. This was very similar to some of the banners they were holding, and some were wearing ‘FREE HUGS’ t-shirts.
The one sticker which stuck out to me most is one which said something like ‘how do you think the German people felt when the Nazis were taking over, with no power to stop them?’ This is the same rationale the Nazi Party used at the time to gain ‘support’- convince people there is no other way, that their system is the strongest, the right system, how will you disprove us? They scared people into their system, turning vulnerable people into fascists. The White Rose is employing Neo-Nazi thinking. To be honest, it was fucking terrifying.
After they were presumably done, they started coming back to the park where they’d already posted plenty of stickers. It’s a hot Saturday afternoon, so lots of people are in the park, families, children, and I’m busy ripping these stickers (most of them about half the size of a bumper sticker) off bins and signposts. Now, at this point I’ve already been confronted by:
- a woman with red hair (dyed red) in a black suit. She asks me what I’m doing. I tell her that some people have been spreading misinformation, and she recalls the demo in town. She agrees ‘yeah, that did look kinda like misinformation. huh. well, cool, okay’. She may just be bad at interacting with people, but there was something pointed, and I don’t think that she could pluck up the courage to tell me to look them up and find out jus how wrong I am. She didn’t look much like the other supporters.
- a woman in a ‘FREE HUGS’ t-shirt. When she asked me ‘why are you taking those down’, I already had a headache and didn’t fancy an argument, so I said ‘they’re the wrong ones.’ She couldn’t hear me, because so many people were walking past. She yelled ‘what?!’ so I repeated ‘THEY’RE THE WRONG ONES’, nodded affirmatively, and walked in the opposite direction. This, of course, was nonsense, but it left her looking incredibly fucking confused, and she eventually just walked away, which I was thoroughly delighted about, as I wanted to return and take more stickers down. I later realised that the men walking past and making so much noise was probably most of the others at the protest, like 25 men and me and her in an underpass. If they’d have seen me taking the stickers down, who knows what would’ve happened. (yes I know I made some bad decisions today and it would’ve been my fault but fuck it, when a dog shits on the pavement someone’s got to clean it up)
-Two bald middle aged white men, both holding pints. One of them yelled ‘what are you taking them down for? Read what’s on them, you might actually learn something!’ I just said nothing and stared at him as he walked away, whilst continuing to crumple one up, which I’d just taken off a railling.
- Some old Scottish guy and his family. I pretended to be taking them down bc the QR codes didn’t work and the sticker had to be replaced. He asked me why I had a mask on, I lied and said my mum wouldn’t let me out of the house without it and took it off. He told me what to go and tell my mum, whilst standing way too close, with his family gathered around him (like 6 people in total, including 2 kids). He was the reason I took a COVID test when I got home, alongside the blaring headache.
-Another family, this time the patriarch was a skinhead in a black polo shirt and jeans, same height as me (kinda short). Just like the others I was confronted by, his regional accent was very strong. Again, I said the QR code didn’t work. I started to walk away this time, kinda scared, and all his family walked up into the park, but he left his teenage daughter behind for a bit to make sure I didn’t come back (how brave). I came back anyway, but they wanted to go into the park and have fun.
But the last pair is what got me. One of them claimed to have done a biomedical science degree at the local university back in 2005. He was the only non-white person involved, and the only one who had anything scientifically based to say. However, the more I asked him about the degree he said he had, the more he started backing physically away from the conversation, claiming he had to go. The discussion I had with him lasted maybe 20 minutes, during which he confessed a belief that big pharma was dishonest and covered up heinous activity, which I agreed was absolutely right, but these ideas came to the total wrong conclusion.
I’m not explaining this very well anymore, it’s late and I’ve still got a headache, but his strong short white skinhead friend kept walking away then coming back, even at one point claiming that he was going to go and get someone. When I asked the first if he agreed with the non-scientific way the first man’s ‘friends’ were talking, and the fact that he is coming at this argument from such a different angle, he just changed the subject. It was around that time that I noticed that he wasn’t blinking, and that he was wearing a ‘Guardians 300′ t-shirt. I’ve since looked them up. They’re a cult. Nobody’s talking about it. He tried explaining the science to me, and I said that I don’t know enough about science to understand what he was saying, but tried to change the subject away from science- it just clearly wasn’t about that for any of the protesters except him.
Anyway, after he was done talking to me and claimed he had to go (right after I claimed to know a few lecturers in the university (I don’t but it was worth a try to see if he was bluffing) and started questioning him on who he knew), I turned around and just kept on taking off those fucking stupid stickers, including two which the skinhead had stuck on while we were chatting. They saw me doing this. I wanted them to see it, but now I’m not so sure. It was a dangerous move.
When people feel certain of something, you have to listen to them to let them air their uncertainties and change their mind. They were aware of this. I was aware of this. Neither of us listened much to each other. I was, to be honest, freaking out all the way home. What the fuck? I’d only seen people say this online, usually Americans, I’d heard about them on the news too. Suddenly I was getting looks from strangers, whilst taking down these stickers, and honestly had no idea who was who, or what they thought of me. And anyway, I’m trans, and have the fear of being looked at funny for that compounded with the fear of what a member of this group could do, it was terrifying.
I think there are very few things which stand between a person coming to a logical conclusion about what’s going on and a less logical conclusion and getting sucked into dangerous territory, although in this day and age there aren’t many logical things left. I’ve experienced the Dunning-Kruger effect at school, but some may never have experienced that, to feel like their understanding of something can only ever go so far.  I’m alright with saying ‘I don’t know’ and admitting that I’m not an expert, but I feel like all these people feel like they do have to know everything, and their genuine, valid fears have turned them to these crazy ideas because they’re nicer than the truth. I got told by a lot of people to ‘do your research’, but I didn’t say that to them, because they may well do their own research, but not necessarily using reputable sources.
This is how Fascism works. If I had the same beliefs as them, I know I’d probably be doing the exact same things- trying to spread awareness. They genuinely think that they’re making a positive difference when they ‘change people’s minds’. Either that or those stickers were put up to get ripped down, to show their followers that ‘everyone is out to get you’. I was definitely scared most, however, by how close we all are in this day and age, to being them. I’ve attended protests, argued online, sent people links, spread my views. Most of my friends and I share the same views, we share each others’ information, when something’s wrong we blame ‘them’, or ‘the government’. These radicalised people were people I’d probably passed in the street before, who I’ve bought bread next to or admired their dog in the park. I met the next Nazis today, and they looked just like everyone else.

bouquet // m. togata
Tumblr media
A/N: My take on the bnharem flower server collab! Hope you enjoy!
CHARACTER PAIRING: Togata Mirio x Reader
WORD COUNT: 1,791
WARNINGS: big, soft fluff
SYNOPSIS: what can flowers say about your relationship with your best friend?
Want to read more flowery goodness? Click here!
it was a hot, sweltering July day, and you were panicking. your best friend slash secret crush’s birthday was today and you still had no idea what to get him. you mulled over it for hours the past couple of weeks, and bought him quite a few presents already, ranging from merch of his favorite pro heroes to video games he mentioned liking, but you still felt as if it wasn’t enough. you wanted to spread the cheer all day and allow him to think of nothing except happiness and positivity.
it was only when you were on your way to the party that you thought of the most brilliant idea: flowers! they were simple yet sweet and would be the perfect ending to your already large pile of gifts. you rushed to the nearest shop, buzzing with excitement, arms heavy with bags of all shapes and sizes.
“hello!” you chirped out to the older woman behind the counter, announcing your presence rather happily.
she turned to you with a small smile, offering her assistance, and when you explained that you were looking for a bouquet of flowers for your best friend, she began offering you choices.
“hmm, i think i should just let you make it. you’re the expert here not me,” you conceded after a few minutes, head spinning from the overwhelming choices and floral scents.
“well, how about you tell me about your best friend and i’ll go from there?”
“Togata Mirio, what can i say about him? he’s tenacious, always outgoing, always there for me when i need him. he never prys unless he knows it's to help me, makes time for me no matter what. he’s brave and kind and the best person in the world to become a hero. i cannot imagine having a better person in my life than him. he’s everything i’ll ever need and more,” you rambled, a light pink dusting your cheeks.
you continued to talk about Togata, from how handsome he looked in his hero costume to stories of his trials and tribulations all throughout high school to his blossoming career saving people. the older woman simply smiled and nodded through your words as she carefully put together splashes of color here and there, eventually settling on four flowers that you would’ve never thought to use together but looked absolutely beautiful.
your smile couldn’t be brighter as you paid and tipped generously for the help, gathering the bouquet of flowers in your hand and delicately storing them in yet another bag that you added to your arm.
the party had already started by time you showed up, laughtering echoing in the large home. you scanned the rooms one by one, your arms aching, until you found a pile of presents under a large banner. relief flooded through your body as you gently began placing the bags one by one onto the pile, filling up the space quite quickly. just as you were standing back up, you felt a pair of arms wrap around your body and suddenly someone had jumped onto your back.
“hey silly! we were wondering when you were going to show up. follow me, foods this way!” Nejire screamed in your ear before jumping off your back and grabbing your arm to lead you to the kitchen.
you hadn’t had time to even collect your thoughts before a cupcake was being forced into your mouth. you blinked owlishly at the girl in front of you, stunned every time by her sheer energy, despite knowing her for years.
“nish ta see yuh too,” you mumbled out around the food stuffed in your mouth, before snagging a bottle of water and forcing the mush down your throat.
“where’s Amajiki and Mirio?” you asked once you had regained some semblance of composure.
“they’re outside, he’s mingling around with everyone but i know he’ll want to say hi to you. he’s been asking all day where you were!”
you two made your way, hand in hand, to the backyard, sliding open the door and stepping out into the fresh summer air. there were plenty of trees shading the grassy area, and with a cool breeze, you were feeling much more relaxed here than you had been all day.
“(y/n)!” you heard someone call out, and you squinted around, trying to find the source of the voice before you saw Mirio weave his way through the crowd, drink in one hand and a smile gracing his face.
“i was wondering when you were going to show up! where have you been all day?”
“sorry, i got caught up getting a last minute present. i hope it’ll be worth it!”
“i’m sure it will. just your presence is a present. get it?”
you had all laughed at his dumb joke before rescuing Tamaki, who looked rather out of place hunched over in a chair in the middle of a crowded backyard.
the rest of the day went by in a blur, eating snacks, telling stories, blowing out birthday candles, and finally, presents. you had been giving some of your smaller ones to him throughout the day, but you had a few left. he had opened the games, the clothes, the merchandise and all the other bigger presents in front of everyone, but you had made him promise that you could hand the last present, the flowers, to him in private. for some reason, they felt special.
people began slowly filtering out one by one, giving Mirio hugs and pats on the back, wishing him a happy birthday one more time, taking cookies to go. it ended up being just the four of you at the end of the night: you, Togata, Tamaki, and Nejire.
Nejire insisted that Tamaki help her clean up, and you promised that you would join once you handed out your last present to Togata. you skipped to the bag, grabbing it in excitement, before pulling him outside into the now cool, dark air.
“okay, so, i’m not really sure why this is a big deal, but i feel as if these are important. i spent a good hour at least with this older woman at the flower shop down the road, telling her all about you, and she created a bouquet that she insisted would knock your socks off. i think it will, too.”
you pulled the bouquet delicately out of the bag and outstretched your arm, offering the array for Togata to examine.
he grabbed the stalks, fingers brushing softly against your own. he studied the flowers like his life depended on it, before a large smile graced his face, white teeth splashing against the shadows of the night.
“wow, you must’ve talked your ear off to this woman, huh?” he mused, looking up at you with a twinkle in his eye.
Togata took one step forward, and then another, until he was practically standing on top of you. reaching down gently, he took your chin in his hand and moved your face until it was peering up at him. soft, sweet kisses peppered your face before he placed his lips on your own in a loving embrace, pouring every emotion he felt into his actions.
when he pulled away, you stared at him, eyes wide, breath caught in your throat.
when you didn’t say anything, panic crossed Togata’s face, before he squeaked out, “you like me, right? that’s what the flowers meant?”
you gaped at him like a fish out of water, mouth opening and closing, not knowing what to say.
“i-i mean yeah, i like you, but how could you tell from the flowers? they’re just flowers. the colors were supposed to match your hero costume, but you couldn’t possibly know that i like you from that?”
he laughed loudly at your expression and comment, able to find humor in the situation now that you confirmed that you did indeed like him and he didn’t ruin your whole entire friendship over one kiss.
“what exactly did you tell the woman at the flower shop?”
“i just told her how amazing you were. how you were my best friend and were always there for me. i-” you paused, realizing just how much you told that woman, how much you blabbed on about Togata and how much you truly liked him. you put your hands over your face, squeaking in embarrassment, before confessing, “i practically told her everything about how i felt about you.”
“it seems like she caught onto your feelings quite easily,” he teased, before continuing, “let me explain it to you.”
he sat you down in a chair, scooching himself to get close to you.
“jonquil is desire for affection to be returned. that little yellow flower was a dead giveaway for me. red chrysanthemums mean love. white carnations also mean love, but pure, sweet love more specifically. blue violets mean faithfulness. honestly, i cannot believe this woman not only matched my hero outfit colors, but put a bouquet together this pretty, and got my crush to confess to me without her even knowing. i’ll have to pay her a visit soon.”
“you like me?”
he laughed loudly once again at your question, before leaning over and pressing yet another sweet kiss to your lips.
“i have kissed you not once, but twice now. you can’t question it anymore. of course i like you! you’re my best friend. i would do anything for you,” he admitted, his own cheeks alight in a rosy glow, only visible slightly from the yellow light emanating from the patio bulb.
“how did you know about this? about the flowers, i mean?”
“Eri really wanted to learn more about them, so we learned together. man, am i glad i learned too. never thought it would come in handy until today!”
you chuckled with him, but before you got to reply, Nejire opened up the backdoor.
“come on you lovebirds. i’ve given you enough time alone. Amajiki and I have already cleaned up and it’s time for a movie!”
Mirio tugged you up from the chair, lacing his hand through yours, before walking inside, sneaking glances your way, mind blown at how the day was going. right as you were stepping inside, he stopped you.
“it’s technically July 16th, so it’s not my birthday anymore. which means that i have to ask you right away. will you be my girlfriend?”
“i thought i already was, but yes, i’ll be your girlfriend. now hurry up before they eat all of the popcorn!”
you raced through the door, tackling Nejire in a hug and stealing the popcorn from off the table.
Togata watched from the doorway, heart beating painfully out of his chest, but in the greatest way possible.
best. birthday. ever.

Chapter Five
You rolled your eyes at Lily with a lazy smirk as the both of you waited for the boys to stop stuffing their faces in The Great Hall. Right about now they would most likely be stuffing their pockets full of snacks to have in Transfiguration that afternoon, they’d probably get detention for eating their snacks. Again. Finally, the boys came traipsing out of The Great Hall as if they had all the time in the world. Sirius was scoffing a vanilla cupcake.
“Bloody finally guys,” you giggled as you and your friends walked down the crowded corridors, “Merlin, how many snacks have you got in there?” you asked, gesturing at their bulging robes.
“Want one Y/N?” Sirius asked innocently around a mouthful of cake, you smirked at him before gathering up some vanilla buttercream on your finger before sucking it off, keeping your eyes on Sirius the whole time. He watched, his cheeks deepening to a bright red flush and he made a funny strangled noise in the back of his throat.
Giggling, you punched him in the arm and hung back, fully intending on speaking to Lily. However, before you could get a word out you found yourself face to face with a group of Slytherin girls who were all staring at you.
“Good morning ladies,” Sirius smirked as he walked past them while Remus looked back with a faint blush on his scarred face.
“Run along, Evans, we need to talk to Y/L/N alone,” the tallest one sneered.
Lily looked at you, chewing her lip, she had a worried expression on her face, “I’ll be fine Lil, really can you just tell McGonagall that I’m hung up?” you asked with a brave smile, though you really did feel nervous. Lily nodded before reluctantly walking down the corridor.
You turned back to the Slytherins, your hand gripping the wand in your pocket in case you needed it. You noticed that all of the girls were very pretty. Though, one girl was at the back of the group, she looked very bored to be here.
“You think you’re pretty smart don’t you Y/L/N?” the tallest one snarled again, she was presumably the leader, “you’ve ruined our last year at Hogwarts.”
“Excuse me?” you laughed as you tightened your grip on your wand, “I honestly have got no idea what you’re going on about.”
“This stupid bet that you’ve got going on with Sirius is what we’re on about,” another girl piped up, her brown eyes flashing menacingly, “you want him all to yourself don’t you?”
You seriously couldn’t believe that you were having this conversation right now, if you weren’t so confused it would actually be really amusing, “oh no, you see,” you giggled, “you’ve got the wrong end of the stick entirely. This whole bet thing is just a bit of fun,” and it was but you knew that Sirius was stubborn and he couldn’t resist a challenge.
“Still, I tried to come onto him the other day and he rejected me, he’s never done that before,” the leader said with a note of hurt in her voice, “there’s only one reason why he would do that and it’s not because of some stupid bet. He’s in love with you, haven’t you seen the way he looks at you when he thinks that no one else sees?”
That had to be the funniest thing that you’d heard all year. Surely you would know if one of your best friends was in love with you, wouldn’t you? You sighed as you rolled your eyes, you shouldn’t have had to explain yourself but you did anyway.
“Sirius is not in love with me, I don’t even know if he can love anybody, we’re just friends. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to get to class,” you shook your head, feeling completely bewildered at the conversation.
“You’d better watch your back Y/L/N, especially at the Quidditch match tomorrow,” one of them called after you.
Thankfully, you arrived at Transfiguration only a couple of minutes late, McGonagall looked at you sternly, her thin lips were pursed but she didn’t say anything. Sirius smirked at you as you sat down next to Lily. McGonagall announced that they were going to be starting human transfiguration, beginning with changing their hair colour. The class murmured with great interest as McGonagall taught them the incantation and the correct wand movement.
Your spirits were not dampened despite the fact that you – and the rest of the class – were only able to change the length of your hair, rather than the colour. You giggled as Lily’s hair was now a pixie cut, “hey, that really suits you.”
“Thanks Rapunzel,” she grinned at you. Your hair now reached the floor, you didn’t know what to do with so much hair but you kind of liked it.
Just as you were about to get to work on changing your hair back to its original state, you heard a couple of girlish giggles a few desks over from you. You gazed over to the other side of the classroom to see what all the commotion was about and your breath got stuck in your throat. Sirius was cockily smirking at his reflection in the hand mirror that he was holding and he was running his fingers through his hair. It was quite a lot shorter and it was more tousled than it usually was.
The surrounding gaggle of girls were all gazing at him adoringly, causing you to roll your eyes, he never missed a chance to show off. Almost as if he could feel your eyes on him, he turned to face you and winked, it was stupidly unfair how he looked even more handsome with the short fluffy hair he was currently sporting.
“Like what you see Y/N? Are you finally ready to admit that you fancy me?” he smirked, resting his hand on his chin as he stared at you.
“Mr Black,” McGonagall began in a warning voice.
You ignored McGonagall, scoffing at Sirius’ words, “pur-lease, me have a crush on you? No way.”
At your words, the group of girls gasped, Remus and Peter snorted while James just looked uncomfortable. Sirius laughed it off and if you hadn’t turned away you would have seen the pained look that flashed across his face. McGonagall sighed as she looked at you both, unbeknownst to you and Sirius; she had an ongoing bet with Slughorn on when you would finally get together. They’d first made the bet in your 5th year.
Later on that evening, you and Lily were sitting in front of the roaring common room fire as you told her about the Slytherin girl’s ambushing you.
“So, let me get this straight, they had a problem with you because they think that Sirius has a thing for you?” she recited and you nodded.
“Yeah, that’s pretty much the gist of it.”
Lily’s emerald eyes scanned your face, “well, maybe they have a point Y/N,” she held up her hands in mock defence as you glared at her, you couldn’t believe that she was taking their side, “just hear me out, okay? He’s been pouting all afternoon because of what you said in Transfiguration,” her voice lowered as the boys came to join you; she smiled as James kissed her.
Sirius sat in the armchair opposite you, it was true enough that he’d been in a mood all afternoon but it wasn’t your fault, not when he could have any girl he wanted.
“Lighten up Sirius, are you seriously in a mood because I told you that I don’t have a crush on you?” you wanted to make light of the situation, it would certainly make you feel better, “I thought your ego needed a bit of deflating,” you giggled.
“This has got nothing to do with my ego,” he muttered, staring into the fire, “but don’t worry, I’m just being silly,” he shot you a smile that didn’t quite reach those pretty eyes.
You sighed as guilt swirled around in your stomach.
-------------------------------------
The following day, the morning of the first Quidditch game, Sirius was walking down to breakfast on his own, he had woken up late to find that his friends had gone down to breakfast without him. He didn’t realise that he had fake friends. Sirius was so hungry; he was craving something with chocolate or an extremely sugary cereal.
On the way down to breakfast, he ran into something twice as sweet, Y/N. He felt a funny fluttering feeling in his stomach as she smiled at him prettily, though he blamed it on the fact that he was so hungry.
“Hi Y/N,” he grinned and noticed that she was carrying a covered tray, “how are you feeling?”
She grimaced, it didn’t look like she was feeling too good, “nervous, I’ve been up for hours,” she laughed weakly as she chewed on her lip, “these are for you by the way,” she blushed as she uncovered the tray to reveal the most delicious looking chocolate brownies that Sirius had ever seen, “I made them this morning to say thank you for helping me get onto the team.”
Sirius chuckled nervously, running a hand through his hair as he took the tray from her, “you really didn’t need to do that but thank you so much,” he blushed, it was an incredibly sweet gesture, “and hey, you were an absolute pleasure to teach,” he smirked. She rolled her eyes but still leaned up to plant a kiss on his warm red cheek anyway.
At breakfast, Sirius helped Lily and Remus finish off the banner that they had created for the match; Remus had drawn a picture of a lion devouring a snake. Remus also stole Sirius’ brownies, pretending not to notice the way that Sirius was glaring at him.
“I’m not hungry James, please I know you mean well but can you stop it? It feels like I’m going to be sick,” Y/N mumbled with her head in her hands. James sighed sympathetically as he rubbed her back. Even though Sirius knew that Y/N couldn’t see him, he smiled at her. No matter what the score came out as, he knew that she would be great.
It seemed like all too soon for before they were walking down to the pitch, Y/N had a sickly tinge to her skin and she wasn’t talking to anybody. Sirius smiled at her before going to sit in the stands with the others, “don’t worry, Y/N. You’re gonna be so great, I know it,” she smiled weakly at him, giving him a quick hug before she followed James into the changing rooms.
“Oh, could you get any more obvious? It’s revolting,” Regulus smirked as he stalked past his older brother. Sirius scoffed, he didn’t know what Regulus was talking about because it was Regulus who had a schoolboy crush on Y/N. He pulled a tongue at the back of Regulus’ head before running to catch up with Remus, Lily and Peter.
The atmosphere was electric as the long awaited Quidditch players finally flew onto the pitch, there were far more cheers than boos. Everybody, well almost everybody wanted to see Gryffindor win the first match of the season, a win would give Sirius and his friends another reason to celebrate at the Halloween feast and Hogsmeade the following day.
Sirius couldn’t see Y/N properly but he could tell that she was smiling; he imagined that her eyes were alight with excitement. He knew that she was completely comfortable now she was up in the air. The game was very exciting, even to begin with, in the first few minutes James scored an amazing goal.
Lily was so happy as she screamed, “that’s my boyfriend!” Sirius just knew that she would be rewarding James for that later on.
Halfway through the game, the crowd gasped in shock as a Slytherin beater aimed a bludger at a Gryffindor chaser, causing him to drop the Quaffle. The Gryffindor’s nose exploded but he soldiered on, refusing to let James call time out. Y/N was certainly pulling out the impressive moves as she looped and swerved, in search of the snitch. Sirius hated to think it but Y/N had her work cut out for her, Regulus was also an excellent seeker.
The young man gasped his heart in his mouth as Regulus and Y/N very nearly collided in the air, he shouted out his admiration, feeling extremely proud when Y/N expertly swerved to avoid Regulus. It was a very close match, Slytherin was leading by fifty points, Sirius was silently praying for Y/N to catch the snitch soon.
After ten more extremely tense minutes, Y/N’s nimble fingers closed around the tiny struggling ball. Sirius whooped and cheered along with Remus and Peter when he realised that Gryffindor had won while Lily sobbed on his shoulder. He looked up and grinned when he saw James and Y/N celebrating with their team, Y/N looked so young and beautiful as she hugged James. Sirius knew that she would always stay that way, for as long as she lived.

RWBY before Oswald is stuck in a hard place the council needs a mission done but no one is willing to sully their hands and he can't bring himself to go see jaune he tries to talk to ruby only to have her publicly rip him a new one stating her beloved isn't a tool to be used by him and the council when he sees fit
right so sorry I took so long with this but as you can see I did put a lot of effort into this, I hope you all like it. also @bssaz97 I’m tagging you because I know you like this au and wanted to do a scene or two with summer and tai so figured it was best to make sure you were in on the new “cannon”
                                       ADAM’S PEAK
This was a disaster, not just militarily but personally. It was devastating news, and Oswald wasn’t sure just what to do about it.
A white fang general had taken the faunas’ elite troops and had gone on a mad crusade through Vale’s countryside. In a little under a week, they would cross the western mountain chains and be into their heartlands.
The fact that Adam was not acting under orders would do little to calm the hatred of vale and the other kingdoms. Menagerie might very well be whipped off the map as a result.
The actual problem was that the huntsmen were not ready for combat like this, he barely had a thousand of the newly minted warriors, and adam was marching with some six-thousand-five-hundred troops. All with aura unlocked. All with years, sometimes decades of experience in human combat. And well equipped too. The only ones with an army left after his idea to rely solely on huntsmen was Atlas. And their military commanders were… less than ready for the war to come.
There was only one man who could save them, and Oswald already owed him too much to be willing to ask him himself.
But his hands were tied with the news that came in this morning. The council of Atlas had called back the expeditionary force under the command of ironwood. There was a significant uproar over this fact, and the returning general ironwood had launched an investigation, but Oswald knew the truth.
The first battle with the white fang was a disaster. While ironwood managed to get his men out fast enough, Adam had defeated the army soundly. It was only ironwood’s impeccable tactical understanding that allowed him to survive it. With most of his army but none of the provisions as their camp was ransacked and raided as they were forced to retreat.
And now only one man could save them, and Oswald couldn’t bring himself to ask.
When he explained the situation to ruby, she had been quiet for a long time before she finally asked, “Is that all he is to you? A sword you can draw in times of war and put away when you’d rather not face the dark truth? Who do you think you are to ask him for more after what he gave! His family was nearly left destitute by you! His legacy and way of life are gone! His reputation tarnished! His very dreams now taken from him, and I have to lie awake a night listening to his nightmares! All on your orders!” she was shouting, now unable to sit with the anger coursing through her. “WHAT MORE CAN YOU TAKE FROM HIM? THERE’S NOTHING LEFT FOR YOU, OSWALD. ALL THAT’S LEFT TO HIM IS HIS LIFE AND HIS HONOR!” she was crying now Oswald reached out trying to offer comfort to the girl by she smacked his hand away.
She glared at the man she once saw as a grandfather “he’ll go, we both know he’ll go. He’s a knight of Vale. He’ll always stand ready to protect those he loves. He’ll give the full measure of devotion for his kingdom” she turned away “you don’t deserve him, none of you do, but he’ll take up lance and sword for you” her final words as she shut the door behind her “you deserve eternal life.”
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In the backroom of the council chambers, Adam Taurus smirked, looking over his weapon a katana. Menagerie had ordered him to stand down. Told him that the time of heroes was at an end. But adam knew there was one last trial left for those who sought to be a hero. One final glory before the end of the age. And his name was Sir. Jaune the Just.
Though adam preferred his other name.
The butcher of anima.
The knight’s age was coming to an end, he knew it, jaune knew it, everyone knew it. But there would be one last glorious battle before the end. It was only a matter of setting things up. He needed jaune out of vale and away from his retenue. Luckily for him, the council wanted to be rid of the knight. And of Oswald. All they needed to do was have Oswald be the one who sent jaune out, and when the hero died, both would be gone.
This battle needed to happen. It was his last chance. If he missed this, it was over. His name would never be mentioned in the history books. But if he could take the head of the butcher? Then his name would live forever as the last knight of the world. And the last great general.
When the councilors came and told him the news, he was overjoyed. But he kept his mask up. All he needed from these fools was a chance to kill jaune. Once that was done, their bargain was complete.
And vale was wide open for plunder.
Yes, if this was the last act of the heroic age, let him return to menagerie with a heroes bounty.
In a week’s time, he would face jaune at a no named castle fortress. He didn’t mind that it had no name. For by the end of this, it would be known as adam’s peak!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jaune stood before his army, his steel-like gaze casting over the lot of them. They were not knights, not even soldiers and barely men, but they were his. Not for the first time, he cursed the council for sending these men out to die with him rather than having the courage to execute him themselves simply. But he put aside his anger; this wasn’t about the council; this was about his men.
“Nothing is more becoming of a man than to be brave before your enemy,” he began, his voice clear and level as he made eye contact with as many of these boys as he could. Seeking to let them know he was there with them, “but a man may be afraid and still be brave!”
The soldiers, despite their nerves and apparent fear, perked up at this, “And any man who goes into battle without fear is a moonstruck fool! To be brave is to go forward anyway, no matter how a-feared! That is why I go forward in the company of so many other brave men.”
Jaune shot the men before him a grim, but encouraging smile, “I will not lie to you, I can promise you nothing but a hard struggle to come.” Jaune was met with silence before he continued you on, “What would you have me say? I will not lie, not to you, and not for any matters of strategy or state. I will not shame myself as such. But there is one thing I will tell you.”
“YOUR FATE SHALL BE THE SAME AS MINE,” the men cheered at this, “whatever glories in the battle to come, I want you to know that we shall share them, I will be by your side!”
Jaune saw the enemy army marching over the last swell of the hill, having divided themselves into two separate forces consisting of thirty-five hundred men each.
“It is a great honor to be thought of by the kingdoms as an educated and well-read man. After all, it is the home of one of the greatest places of learning in the world! But I tell you this, in all of my studies, I have never encountered the likes of our foes! They would fill bestiaries yet unwritten, and good scholars would blush to write of their perversities!”
“And finally, I can tell you as a man of learning that a book can be beneficial before a battle, I would not recommend Tacitus though, the pages of his books are very rough on your nether regions!” the men laughed. Jaune raised his sword, “THEY WILL REMEMBER!”
A great cheer went up as the men rushed to their positions, forming together in tight spear walls on the mountain’s steep incline.
For Jaune, there was only one truth that rang in his head at the moment, that invincibility is found in defense, but victory can only be found in the offense. It’s why he had ignored the small wooden walls of the “castle” behind him.
No, he wouldn’t die cowering behind the wooden wall of a fort. His destiny lay down the hill before him. And with a determined look upon his face, Jaune kicked his horse into a gallop and went down the hill; his banner raised high...
… And rode right past the second army, making their way up towards him.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Adam would give this to Jaune; he had indeed done his best to give his men every possible advantage. A lesser commander would have hidden behind those wooden walls at the top of the mountain, but not Jaune. He had sallied out and met him, man to man, on the field of battle. But Adam wasn’t worried. Even with such a steep incline helping the enemy, they were no match for trained soldiers with armor and aura.
The poor peasants that the council had sent to die with Jaune would be remembered at the very least, as they would have the privilege of taking place in the last battle of the Age of Knights. A movement out of the corner of his eyes showed him the banner of house arc proudly dancing in the breeze, with Jaune running down the mountainside right past his army.
He immediately ordered his second army to give chase as the envelopment meant nothing to him. In time these farmers with their pointy sticks would fall, but Jaune must not be allowed to escape and rally a defense elsewhere.
It was not some three minutes later when his lieutenants spoke of Jaune coming for them, leaving Adam to gape at such an action. What Lunacy, surely, no one would be foolish enough to charge an army on their own?!
Adam had little time to comprehend his enemy’s ploy, for when he turned around to the battlefield, he was greeted with a sight to behold. For there before him, plowing through his men as if they were nothing more than dominoes to be toppled over was Jaune Arc: His horse a resplendent white; His armor a polished to a perfect shine; and with his lance couched at a perfect angle as he connected with the unsuspecting Adam’s armor.
There was a moment of resistance before Adam felt weightless as he was taken off his horse from the momentum of Jaune’s weapon crashing against his armor. Then, he felt a flare of pain as Jaune’s lance tore through his armor and pierced his heart in a clean kill before his limp body crashed against the cold, hard ground in an undignified heap.
And then, there was nothing but the void of darkness to greet him.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lie Ren was not a knight. He wasn’t even a soldier. He was a farmer, a poor one at that, so when the council had said they needed men to act as levies, he’d signed up. He figured they’d have him digging ditches and carrying supplies, nothing too overtly complex he’d imagine.
But not this
The world was a haze of violence and pain in front of him; faunas in heavy armor struggled uphill through their wall of spears. He thrust without thinking, hoping that it might dissuade the warriors, while every few seconds, another cry would go up as one of his allies took a blow. Nearly all of them were bleeding now, yet none dared to fall, for to fall now would surely lead to their death. Before them, the mass of knights had formed a solid wall; he’d kill for a musket like the one Nora had wanted to buy him, but it was too expensive, and he wanted to save the money to get new farm equipment.
That steam tractor seemed so frivolous right now.
A flash of steel was his only warning as the man next to him died, clutching his throat. Eyes wide, begging for help the first one but most likely not the last. Ren thrust the spear, again and again, ignoring his growing fatigue as he did so. He’d survive this, and he’d make it home to Nora, that’s all that mattered.
But how? They were surrounded.
He wondered if Nora would find another, he hoped so. She deserved happiness, more than he could offer her, that was for sure. Her smile was the best thing about her. It was what drove him to work so hard. Knowing that she’d be back at home waiting for him, he could endure any hardships for that smile. He was hoping to marry her when he got back when the farm was stabilized, and they could build their lives together.
He hoped she wouldn’t mourn too long.
It was just as he was about to give up when he saw him; Sir Arc had gotten behind enemy lines. Down the massive slope, he could see the other half of the army giving chase. And it all happened in slow motion.
Sir Arc Riding up the hill
His lance lowered just as the enemy general turned to see him.
A great screeching as the lance went through the armor of the faunas.
There was a moment of stunned silence.
And then they started screaming.
Panic took the enemy that just a second before was utterly unfazed by them. But now, with their spirits broken, so too was their aura.
The battle was now a haze of red, and Ren gave chase without thinking. He needed this, needed to kill them as they had tried before. He stabbed with his spear running down the fleeing knights as they tried to escape his spear, barely having the time to rechamber as he killed with reckless abandon.
This was no longer a battle; it was a glorious red hazed slaughter, the most potent high of rage elation and victory ren had ever felt, and he needed more, and more, and more! Let the world drown in his enemy’s blood.
HE’D KILL THEM ALL!
Eventually, though, they ran out of men. And ren came down from his high, all around him were tired bloody men, but more importantly, the field was covered in a carpet of dead knights, so much so that the grass couldn’t be seen underneath.
Ren looked at the sky, and that couldn’t be right.
The sun hadn’t moved; it was still high noon.
It had felt like hours, but…
“One thousand men, and seven and a half minutes,” came the voice of Sir Arc. Ren took in the sight of their savior. His horse, once pure white, was now covered in red. His armor the same, his eyes tired. “That’s what it took to gain victory over six-thousand-eight-hundred and thirty-eight men. All consisted of the greatest knights still living after the great war, and the Faunus rights revolution. And the leadership to the militant arm of the white fang” Sir Arc laughed, “and it took me seven and a half minutes AND A THOUSAND FARMERS WITH POINTY STICKS!” and the call went up, the men cheered and hollered. Their cries echoing off the mountain.
Ren would go home to Nora; when he did, they would make love, to the point that he exhausted her. And they would keep going until a week later when Ren’s pay would show up, along with a sizable bonus, and a note.
In time all this would happen, but for now, ren stood on the pile of corpses, covered in blood, spear raised high over his head, and he screamed his victory to the gods on the slopes of what would be known as Adam’s peak.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Legends would be told of this battle jaune knew as he looked over the clean up being done by his men, the knights of note and the leaders were being beheaded, jaune personally doing the honors for adam. He had plans for all of them. He also had a message from adam’s personal effects back at his camp. He and the council would be having words, and all the world would know of their misdeeds.
The battle itself was the deathblow to the knightly way of life though, jaune could feel it in his bones. It was jaune’s victory purely because of the weaknesses of the knightly system. Aura was based on morale, how willing to fight a man was. When things were going well in a fight, this was all well and fine but scare a man, disrupt his concentration, and he could no longer muster the will to fight, then he was just as vulnerable as any other. Perhaps worse so, as all his skill was based on what he could do with his aura.
The weak point of an army was always their order of battle and morale. And when jaune had killed adam, it had broken them, they could have rallied, but luckily one brave warrior by the name of Lie Ren had rushed forward, seizing the initiative, and as a result, inspiring all the men behind him to push forward as well.
Lie Ren had won this battle just as much as he did.
But adam had committed everything to this battle and lost everything. The knightly system was high risk, high reward, with no real way of knowing how the results would turn out.
The huntsman system didn’t have this problem. It was decentralized, meaning you couldn’t kill a general to break the enemy’s will. And the loss of a team of hunters meant very little in the grand scheme of things. Vale could lose again and again now and still have more to give.
The system was simply a higher reward for lesser risk. And so jaune was faced with the unenviable knowledge that he was the one to end the age of knights. And that he would be the last commander for the final battle.
The after-action report was straightforward. After all, he was only writing it for Oswald. And that was only so ruby would know he was alive before he showed up with the heads of his enemy. Perhaps vale would hate him for this as well, but he no longer cared what happened to that den of vipers.
Jaune had been stationed in the mountains that will henceforth be known as Adam’s peak. He had one-thousand levies from the local farms, poorly trained and equipped. And he had been engaged by the enemy army of the White Fang numbering six-thousand-eight hundred and thirty-eight. Being made up of the elite knights and veteran leadership of the white fang. Knowing that the wooden castle walls would do him no good, he had set his men on the steepest slope in a choke point. It would not have granted him victory, but it had bought him time and had set up the next stage of his strategy.
Adam had sought to capture him for a grand execution and had sent half his army to ensure that he did not escape. Jaune had gambled on the fact that he was a high priority of the enemy general and had run past the second army with his banner held high. Jaune was right in that the enemy was quick to pursue him. He then made a suicidal charge through the back lines of the enemy and slew Adam in a single blow. Therefore, the morale of his enemy and their aura shattered the rest had been a simple mop-up action to ensure they could not rally. With him personally hunting down and killing the enemy commanders as his men slaughtered the rest.
Having followed him, the second army was already exhausted from the chase and, with their auras weakened, could not run away fast enough, blocking the first armies escape and ruining any chance of organizing resistance as units ran through each other to get away, utterly destroying cohesion.
In total, the battle had taken him seven and a half minutes. In seven and a half minutes, Jaune Arc had shifted the direction of fate and history and had secured for himself the title that all would know him by for the rest of his life.
Sir Jaune Arc, The Just, The Butcher Of Anima.
And The Knight of Miracles

“Wizard Dad, is the Witcher distracted?  Over,”
“War hammer, the Witcher is very distracted, are you sure this was a good idea?”
“Absolutely, don’t let her know what’s going on!  Over!”
Douxie sighed, “Over,”
The plan was pretty simple.  He was supposed to keep you distracted while the guardians of Arcadia set up a surprise party in your apartment.  He could only hope that things were going well on their end because distracting you was more difficult than it seemed.
But he’d managed!
You were now helping him fight off at least twenty shadow mephits, and you were not at all focused on the fact that it was your birthday.
He wasn’t sure how it had happened.  You’d been walking through Arcadia, just vibing, when suddenly, mephits.  Douxie didn’t know if that was inconvenient or not.  On one hand, it was a distraction that he didn’t have to put any effort into.  On the other hand, you both had to wrangle the mephits.  It was, in his opinion, a draw.
“Douxie!  A little help please!?”
“I’m on it!”
He blasted a few of the mephits away from you before rushing to your side.  You kicked one of them in the face before spinning around and firing a spell at two more.
“There’s too many of them, do you have a plan?”
He did have a plan, but that plan involved coming out of this unharmed and getting you back to the apartment.  It was not useful against shadow mephits.
“No, just keep fighting,”
You did for a few moments more before you remembered the can of hairspray and the lighter at the bottom of your bag.  Why did you have those things on your person at all times?  For situations like this, of course.  You were actually a little disappointed that you hadn’t thought of this earlier.
“Cover me!”
“Wait, (Y/N), what are you doing!?”
“Just trust me!”  you yelled, diving for your bag and digging through it.
Douxie covered for you to the best of his ability, but he was one wizard, and there were way more than twenty mephits now.  This was no longer a draw between inconvenient and otherwise, it was straight up not a good time.  He was seriously wondering what ancient deity he had pissed off to have this as a distraction, or what deity you had pissed off to have this happen on your birthday.  It could have been puppies.  There could have been puppies in the road for you to gawk at and play with, but no.  Some god out there had decided on shadow mephits.
One of the creatures jumped at you, but before Douxie had a chance to call out a warning, you spun around setting the thing on fire.  The wizard was pleasantly surprised by this, although he was a bit concerned by the fact that you had the tools to craft a flamethrower on your person.  Did you carry those on you all the time, or-?
You carried them on you all the time.  Aside from joining to form a successful flamethrower, hairspray and lighters were just important tools to have on hand.  You only used them to build flamethrowers though.
“Doux, watch out!”  The wizard jumped out of the way as you turned the flames in his direction, singing the edges of his hoodie and setting the mephits around him ablaze.
You cackled with utter glee as you set fire to the world around you.  To a bystander, it would be concerning, but you were having the time of your life, and Douxie was used to this.  He was actually more than used to it.  He’d been dating you for years, this is what he’d fallen in love with.
The fire jumped around you, seeming more alive than any other fire on the planet.  It moved almost at your command and burned brighter and longer around you.  It didn’t take Douxie too long to figure out that this wasn’t regular fire.  It was magic fire.
When you were done, you set fire to the sky for a moment, laughing still as the flames continued their dance above you.  And then, you were done.
With the mephits defeated and the fire out, you tossed the hairspray and lighter back into your bag and calmly walked over to Douxie, kissing him on the cheek, “That was the best birthday present ever.  Thank you, babe!”
You sounded so sweet, and not at all like a woman who had just set fire to a bunch of monsters.
It was pretty hot.
You made your way back to your bag, making sure everything was in its place before zipping it up.  Out of earshot, Douxie spoke to someone you couldn’t have seen even if you were looking.
“Wizard Dad, we’re in the clear, send in the Witcher, over,”
“Perfect timing, Toby,”
“War Hammer!”
“Yes!  Right, sorry,”
“Who were you talking to?”
Douxie nearly jumped out of his skin, “Nothing!  No one!  Come on, love, let’s go home,”
“Aight.  Are you okay?”
“Yes, darling, never better,”
You bit your lip, looking at the singed edges of his hoodie, “Cool beans.  Let’s get gone,”
He smiled at you as you spun around, heading in the direction of your home.
To anyone else, it might just be a regular apartment, but to Douxie, and to you, it was everything.  It was a place where safety was confirmed, where the two of you could be yourselves and just exist without the pressures of being known by anyone but each other.  And Archie.  Douxie loved living with you, spending time with you, all of it.  Even if some of the towels were singed, he wouldn’t want to live with anyone else.
“Douxie?  You sure you’re good, babe?”
The wizard smiled at you, “I’m more than okay, I promise,”
“Then come on,” you grabbed his hand, “Let’s go,”
Douxie was glad to follow you home.
He was less glad to open the door to your apartment to see a bit more than the towels singed.
“Oh, fuzzbuckets,”
“What?  I didn’t do this?”  you entered your apartment, trying to figure out who burned literally everything in your home if it wasn’t you.
“SURPRISE!!!!”
“OH MY GOD!!!”  you screamed, flinging your bag in self defense.  It hit Krel, knocking him out even though it didn’t hit his head.  You weren’t sure how that happened, but there was no time to think about that.  At the moment you were focused on the faces of your very embarrassed friends, trolls, aliens, changelings and humans, all of whom were probably responsible for burning everything in your apartment.
And it wasn’t only burnt.  Behind them, a white banner hung on the wall, the word, “BIRTH” was written on it in large red letters.  Someone had thrown glitter at the sign in an attempt to make it better.  The glitter, however, had not stuck to the banner, instead, it coated everything in your apartment.  You were pretty sure there was frosting on your ceiling.
“Happy birthday?”
“Aww, you guys!’  You exclaimed, looking around your apartment, relishing in the chaos, “Thank you so much!”
They all visibly relaxed, thankful that you weren’t mad about the mess.  But why would you be?  You were a witch, you could clean it.  Also, fire was your thing.  You were fine with a little soot.
Your eyes were wide as you took it all in, “You’re all so amazing!”
“It’s no problem at all, (Y/N),” Jim said, his nerves slipping into his voice as he scratched the back of his neck.
“You heard her guys!  She’s okay with the scorch marks!  Let’s party!”  Toby yelled, eager to stop stressing after what had been a very tense and flammable party set-up.
And so the party began!  It was pretty chill, there were many vibes, I don’t know how to describe it because I’ve been to one party in my entire life, but let’s just say it was dope.  Halfway through Krel woke up, and was totally fine.  Everything was going well.
And it kept going well.
It seemed that the universe decided that a metric ton of shadow mephits and a burnt apartment were enough for one day. By the end of the night, you were pretty tired.  You’d sent the children and trolls home at a reasonable hour because you were a pyromaniac, not an irresponsible influence.
You and Douxie used magic to clean the apartment after everyone had left.
“Are you actually okay with the burns and the glitter?”
“Okay?  It literally could not be better,”  you looked at Douxie, smiling brightly, “Our friends tried their best to do something nice for my birthday.  Did they burn the apartment?  A little, but I don’t care.  It was sweet, and,” you picked up a handful of glitter, “They gave me free ammo,”
You threw the glitter at your unexpecting boyfriend, hitting him in the chest.
“Oh no, you don’t!”
The glitter fight that ensued was glorious.  You both fought bravely, not stopping for anything.  Your tactics were well thought out and nearly fool-proof, but alas, you were battling against the person who knew you best rendering all strategy moot.  After a fierce and shiny battle, you found yourself cornered by your wizard.
“Surrender, love?”
“Never,”
Before Douxie could throw more glitter on you, you grabbed his face and kissed him.  He melted into it, not noticing your hand reaching back for more glitter until it was too late.
You came away from the kiss before throwing glitter into your boyfriend’s face, giggling at the displeased look on his face.  Your laughter made him crack a smile before he kissed you again.
“I love you, Doux,”
“I love you too.  Happy birthday, (Y/N),”

Peter’s P.O.V
Scorpion’s tail came swinging at me, first from the left, which I was able to dive away from, and then from the right, which I was not able to dive away from. It ripped right through my suit and cut open my side, almost instantly my whole body was on fire. Trying to fight through it (or at least until Mr. Stark arrived), I closed my eyes and clamped my hand over the cut, only to find myself collapsing.
“Peter!”
That’s Y/N, my Y/N. What’s she doing here? She shouldn’t be here, it’s dangerous, Scorpion is running around.
Scorpion...
I shot back up, jumping to my feet only to find Y/N has been pinned against a car. Panic settles in my stomach while I watch her try to fight her way out of Scorpion’s grip. I try to lunge for him, web him, anything to get him away from her, but it’s useless. His tail stabs her, through her stomach, and she falls.
“No!” I dive to get to her, not caring that he’s running off, “Y/N, hey, look at me, it’s okay, you’re gonna be fine, I’m gonna take you to the hospital and you’ll be fine,” I insist, pulling her up towards my chest, “Y-You’re fine, okay? You’re gonna be fine,” I glance down, her stomach is covered in blood, and when I look back up it’s starting to dribble out of her mouth, she’s going limp, “N-No! Stop that! tears well up behind my eyes “Stop! You’re fine! You have to be fine!”
Someone is standing over me when I finally get my eyes to open, it takes me a second to make out that it’s Dr. Banner and Mr. Stark, “And sleeping beauty awakens,” Mr. Stark snickers and hits Dr. Banner’s shoulder, “How are you feeling kid? That stuff he injected you with is pretty nasty.”
I push myself up, my eyes darting around the room frantically, “Where’s Y/N?”
He furrows his brow, “Her house I imagine. Scorpion stung you remember? You were hallucinating, whatever you saw wasn’t real.”
That was not a hallucination. It was real, I could hear her, and feel her, and the blood. There was so much blood, it was all over her, and me. I glance down and see there’s only a tiny bit of blood around the cut on my side.
“N-No, she was there, he hurt her. Where is she?”
“She wasn’t there, and nobody got hurt but you,” he promised, “Everyone is fine, you just need to rest for a little while.”
“B-But I could feel her, it was so real...”
“It wasn’t real. It was a hallucination.”
I start pushing myself up but they stop me immediately, pushing me back onto the cot, “Stop it, I need to see her.” I need to make sure she’s okay, I need to see her with my own eyes, I need to touch her, I need to hold her.
“Kid you just got patched up, relax for a little bit,” Dr. Banner holds his hands up to tell me to stop, “We need to make sure that stuff is totally flushed out of your system.”
“No!” I snap, “I’m not staying here, I need to make sure she’s okay!”
“You can go see her,” Mr. Stark promises, “We just need you to wait a little longer so we can make sure you’re okay. Go clean yourself up and we’ll see how you’re feeling alright?”
/
One painful shower and two blood tests later and they determine I’m healthy enough to leave. I send Y/N a text, warning her I’ll be over in a few minutes. Of course it’s perfectly reasonable for her not to reply at 1 am but it only serves to worsen my nerves.
I purse my lips, debating my chances if I make a run for it, “Fine.”
“Y/N!” I’m pounding on her window as soon as I land on her fire escape.
After a few seconds of my knocking her room lights up with an orangish glow. Just when my heart is about to pound out of my chest her peel back and there she is, rubbing one eye while she lazily attempts to unlock her window. I’m so releaved that I nearly start to cry.
“Peter,” she gives me a tired smile and yawns, “You know I love you so, so much, but I am so, so tired right now.”
I cup her cheeks and press my forehead to hers for just a moment before I press a kiss to the same spot, “I’m sorry, I just really needed to see you.”
“That’s okay, I’m always here for you,” she promises, wrapping her arms around my neck for just a second, “Come on, let’s get comfy okay?”
She moves aside, letting me climb in, “Did you see the fight?” I toss my mask aside and take a seat on the edge of her bed while she starts diffing through her dresser.
“No, I’m sorry, I would have stayed up,” she fishes out one of my t-shirts and a pair of sweats before she takes a seat besides me, “It was a bad one huh?”
I can only manage to nod for a second, “Really, really bad.”
Her lips fall to a little frown before she hugs me again, but she doesn’t let go this time, “I love you.”
“I love you too.”
“Are you hurt?”
“I have a little cut on my side, but I’m fine,” I bury my face in her hair, finally feeling okay again, “Is it okay if I spend the night?”
“Anytime you want,” she presses her lips to mine for just a second, “Do you wanna talk about the fight?”
“Yeah, but not yet. I kind of just want to hold you for a little while.”
She kisses me again, “Whatever you need.”
"I’m gonna change so we can get into bed.”
She smiles, crawling under the covers while I change, “Good idea, we need to be all comfy if we’re gonna cuddle all night.”
I smile back to her and lay down besides her, quickly pulling her flush against me, “I love you so, so much.”
“I love you too,” she kisses my cheek and moves a hand to the back of my neck, twirling some of my hair in a way that normally puts me right to sleep.
I close my eyes and let us sit in silence for a few minutes before I feel ready to tell her what happened.
“It was Scorpion.”
“That’s the same guy who popped up last week right?”
“Yeah, I was closer so I went after him first. It was okay for awhile, but he cut me, and the toxin in his tail, it makes you hallucinate. I saw you, like you were right there in the middle of the fight, and he...” I trail off for a second, unsure of what the right was to tell her was, “He killed you, and I couldn’t stop him. I know everything is okay now, you’re fine, but it was just so real. It really scared me, and it didn’t matter how many times they told me it wasn’t really, I just needed to see for myself that you were okay. I feel better now, I’ve just been really on edge all night.”
She frowns sympathetically and moves her hand to my face, tracing over my cheek bone with her thumb, “I’m so sorry Peter, I love you so much.”
“I love you too, thank you.”
“You’re okay right? They got that stuff out of you and you’re all patched up?”
I nod, ”Yeah, just freaked out.”
“I’d be a totally mess, that’s really scary. There’s no need to worry though, I’m okay, and I always will be, I’ve got you to look out for me,” her smile returns and she presses a kiss to my cheek.
“I couldn’t keep you safe.”
“Only in a hallucination Peter, it wasn’t real.”
“But it was realistic, really realistic. What if something really happens and I can’t keep you safe?”
“It won’t.”
“You don’t know that.”
“Yes I do,” she giggles and kisses both of my cheeks, “I know you, and I know how brave you are, how strong you are. I know that you’ll keep the people you love safe, no matter what, and I know that you love me. So I know that I’ve got nothing to worry about.”
A smile overcomes my lips while I lean in to kiss her, “Thank you, you always know what to say.”
“Yeah well, I would like to think I’m a bit of an expert on the subject of Peter Parker.”
“I think so too,” I pull her back into my chest before my very heavy eyes fall closed.
“Ready for bed?”
“Yeah, I feel a lot better.”
She presses her lips to mine and I kiss back, maybe a little harder than I normally would, “Goodnight Peter.”
“Goodnight.”
