this is technically abt hbomerguys new video essay, yknow the one its abt plagiarism. its great go watch it!

currently, im in the midst of writing my dissertation. it’s still in the works, but the long n short of it is that it regards the effects that capitalism and its lust for marketing and social praise has on the creative industries and more! (dont want to air out my full topic before i hand it in :P)

now, i’ll be the first to admit that in my prior essays i’ve had some bad habits of writing first researching later (which, is obviously what SHOULD NOT BE DONE), but in those instances i had made analysis based on information i had at least picked up on in the past and eventually edited the essays to correctly coincide with the correct information. because obviously lying in an essay wont fuckn fly at uni.

i took the normal approach with my dissertation because a) im older and less stupid now and b) i was broaching a topic im passionate about but requires a sound basis and inherent understanding to analyse properly and smth i knew off but not in depth. not to mention the importance of including real world examples within my research and discussion.

regardless, as long and arduous as i personally find research, its truly gratifying when you collect, analyse and build a well rounded idea and argument built upon the information you have found and analysed. and the best part is when you can use it as a springboard for your own personal discussion points! its great!

hbomberguys video essay about plagiarism has reignited a spark within me regarding my dissertation. i have more research to conduct before its completion, and before i had viewed it as a roadblock between myself and the parts of essay writing that i enjoy.

now i look at all these sourced i need to read and feel something of a camaraderie with these writers. these are people who ALSO really care about my industry and the rights of the artist. these are people who have painstakingly amassed information in order to discuss and highlight things that they too, find significance in.

and as someone who had always had a love for discussion and analysis, it truly confounded me that so many people are willing to plagiarise and to the sheer extent of which they will do so. because, where is the fun in that?

wheres the community you find in the people who, before you, have ALSO found intrigue in the topic you are covering? who share the same distaste as you, the same passion?

these people may never know my work or who i am, but they have influenced me deeply.

hbomberguy is one of those people. so, thank you hbombrerguy for informing and inspiring me!
