NOTES
ON CANON I actually haven’t seen much past season five, and am in the process now of finishing season six. For me, the first five seasons of the show are an excellent, contained narrative; as such, while it’s possible that I will catch up, especially with the series ending, my default is typically to only write Sam through season five canon. I haven’t decided if I want to write Sam being resurrected or not.
ON CHARACTERIZATION I tend to prefer Sam’s characterization in seasons one through five. Sam is not particularly healthy, has a very strict code and feels immense guilt when he is unable to live up to that code, and has a tendency to throw all of that out the window when it comes to Dean.
ON RELATIONSHIPS My primary ship for Sam is with Ruby. My interpretation is that the two did have genuine feelings for one another, and that Ruby betrayed the brothers only after extensive torture, and in the genuine belief that she was saving Sam. Their relationship is messy, complicated, unhealthy, and codependent, and this is a major element of who Sam becomes. All Sam x Ruby content will be appropriately trigger tagged.
ON SAM & DEAN The relationship between the brothers is deeply unhealthy, extremely codependent, and wildly troubled. I will not ship Sam with his brother sexually or romantically. Please don’t ask about it.

Imagine being in a relationship with Dean, but when you finally start to make things more serious, you start to distance yourself and keep quiet from him. Being worried he might have ruined the best thing to ever happen to him and despite his insecurities, Dean decides to have a talk with you to figure out what’s wrong.
Tumblr media
“What?” Dean's voice was gruff, still far too early for him to speak or stand in the first place especially since he hasn't had his coffee yet, but he did repeat with a frown at his brother “What?”
“Huh?” Sam blinked, looking away from your still – maybe far too still to be normal – form, hunched over your steaming cup of coffee, to look at his brother who had one raised eyebrow at him already “Oh uh, I- What did you say again?”
“I asked you. What's the matter man?” Dean blinked slowly compared to his brother who blinked too fast.
“No, nothing's the- You know actually-” Sam cleared his throat, turning more towards his brother and lowering his voice “I've just- I was looking at (Y/n) and I've noticed that lately some things are different, like- like this morning, and I've been meaning to ask you but I didn't know if I should so I just-”
“Sam” Dean said in a rough voice “Too early. Too many words. Cut to it.”
“Is she alright?” he asked with actual worry both on his face and in his voice “Cause I- I was paying attention to some things and she really doesn't seem like herself. I would've asked her but, while I'm her best friend, I didn't know if it was entirely my place to. So I thought I should ask you, seeing how attached to the hip you two are. Is (Y/n) alright?”
“I-” Dean started but frowned even more, his eyes immediately jumping to take in your form at the moment as he tilted his head to the side in confusion and deep thought “I don't-”
“You don't? Don't what, Dean? Don't know? She's your girlfriend, for crying out loud!” Sam whispered-hissed at his brother.
“I just- She seemed fine to me all this time! I never noticed a thing out of the ordinary. She's acting the same way she always did around me!” Dean shrugged, voice also hushed “No, really, that's how it's always been. Our relationship is the same too, maybe better than ever! I mean-” a smile, or more like a proud grin, started lifting the corners of his lips as he looked a bit into the distance in thought “If last night was any indicator, we are certainly better than ever!”
“You- what?” Sam narrowed his eyes at his brother with a tilt of his head.
“You know, I was a bit tired after the case, but then she came out of the shower wearing my shirt and you know how one thing can lead to another, and I really couldn't help. It was oof-” Dean blew out a breath “Wow, really, wow. So much of-” Dean had started recounting the events of the previous night with a coy smile on his face, until Sam interrupted him.
“Dean. Dean! Hey, not- not the point here, yes? And I'm certainly not interested in being scared for life by the mental images that would inevitably invade my mind, please and thank you.” the younger Winchester pointed out, effectively cutting him off also with a look that made Dean's smile vanish and the man sober up and get more serious “Our point here is (Y/n) and whether she is alright or not.”
“She-” Dean paused, letting out a short huff before straightening his back “Hey, honey? (Y/n)?”
“Hmh? What?” you asked slowly, rubbing the sleep out of your eyes as you finally looked at something but your coffee, your boyfriend.
“Are you alright?” he asked caringly still.
“Define alright.” you said back with a serious face and they shared a look “Alright as in alright with an asteroid striking earth and killing everyone this morning or alright as in alright with passing out and sleep the rest of my life off with occasional breaks for midnight snacks?”
It took a couple seconds for any of the Winchesters to speak, only silence having followed save for the sound of the coffee machine, as they both stood there for a couple seconds only blinking”Alright as in... alright? Alright as in functioning properly as a human being and being... mentally stable perhaps?”
“Oh” you blinked, only twice, in understanding before shaking your head “No, then. No.” you went back to staring at your coffee, waiting for it to cool down and letting silence hang in the air but for a shorter amount of time before you added “As for mentally stable though, I think I've got something close to it. My mind is in a stable situation as in a never-changing state.”
“Never-changing state? Wh-what would that be?”
“You know, normal stuff.” you shrugged, eyes still laced with sleep “Like an internet browser.”
“You mean... like a computer? Sharp and with a good memory?”
“No, I mean like a browser. Fifteen tabs are open, seven of them are frozen and I don't know where the music is coming from.” you said with a casual shrug “But there's nothing new about it. 'S pretty much the story of my life, how I've always been. 24/7 and it stays the same, so don't worry.”
“I-” Sam frowned even more deeply, blinking in confusion again before shaking his head and turning his head abruptly to look at his brother and mostly glare at him, before he whispered “You call this alright?”
“Well, just between you and I... yeah!” Dean shrugged “That's how she is man, we both know it.”
“Well, yes, obviously. But today she seems to be even more of... that! Seriously, Dean-” Sam sighed deeply, shaking his head “Work with me for a moment here, ok? Really do. Think well about this. Has something happened that could affect her? Something that maybe... you don't even know about? Something that she wouldn't tell you for one reason or another?”
“Not tell me? Why would she not-”
“I don't know. I mean-” Sam shrugged, face going more serious this time around “Does she have a reason to? Is there something there that would cause it? Is... Is everything ok between the two of you?”
“Of course, why else-” Dean started, defending himself and what you had, before it slowly started downing on him and he stopped abruptly, going serious immediately “I'll- I will go talk to her.”
“Are you sure about that? I mean, maybe you should wait a bit? Think this trough?” there was clear doubt in both Sam's voice and face, not that it deterred the older Winchester in the least bit. He was far too busy being worried abut other things than him messing up.
“Yeah, I've got this. Don't worry, I'll clear it all up.” he reassured his brother though Sam looked anything but reassured.
“Doubt that but alright, whatever you say.” Sam sighed “Just- Make sure to be calm. Be careful about this.”
Though Dean barely paid attention to half of the words, he gave a nod at his brother – which, alright, looked more dismissive than anything else – before making his way towards you.
“Hey, honey.” he said softly, slowly reaching out to take hold of your hand; the only thing you did was hum in acknowledgment, eyes focus on stirring your coffee.
“Alright uhm-” he cleared his throat, glancing at his younger brother who was looking closely at the two of you in concern “Hey, sweetheart, are you- How are you feeling today?” he corrected himself when he realized his previous question had already gotten an answer, albeit weird one.
“Oh just a lil bit tired. 'S all. But what else is new?” you shrugged, finally moving to slowly take a large sip of your coffee and sigh in content.
“I understand, the case was a bit tough for all of us. But things will get better, we'll take a break for some time if need be.” he nodded his head slowly, his fingers playing with yours as he hesitated for another second “I just- You know, you seem a bit off, so I- I couldn't help but feel slightly concerned about you. And I know you said you are ok but I wanted... I neededto ask you again if everything is really alright... between us?” his question managed to make you look up from your cup with a deepening frown and tilt of your head, fact that only put him even more on edge and made him worry even more.
“You felt concerned?” you question, glancing at Sam the same second he did.
“Yeah, I- well, we both did. But I even more so, you understand. So I just wanted to ask you. And honey, if- if I ever did anything, if I wronged you somehow, if- gosh, if I hurt you even, I am so sorry. I didn't- I didn't even realize it, I get so caught up with our hunts sometimes that... maybe I even neglect you. Some kind of boyfriend, I am.” he scoffed at himself, shaking his head “I know I suck sometimes, but you know I love you more than anything. You're the best thing that has ever happened to me and to know that I might have somehow ruined this in any way, even in the slightest, hurts as hell. So I want you to tell me, I want us to talk, so I- so I can do my utmost to fix it. Something. Anything. So I can be better for you.”
“Fix it?” the more you only repeated his words in that careful, low tone the more the man panicked on the inside that things were much more wrong than he knew and wondered if there even was any fixing it.
“I- Well, I hope?” he asked slowly, before squeezing your hand “I just want us to be alright and it's clear that we're not. You just seem off and I was hoping you could talk to me about it, that I could change it. Is there anything I can do? Anything you need from me? Anything at all. You just tell me and I promise-”
“Well, since you started this-” you shrugged, straightening your back “I wasn't going to mention this but, yes, maybe you are right. There is something great I need, that I almost can't live without, and that I feel like I've been missing all this time. I really don't know how to tell you but in every relationship we must also think of ourselves, not our partner. There is no use in suffering just to make the other happy, it's not healthy. So I guess, enough is enough after some point, right?” you asked and he gave a weak nod “Dean-” you sighed heavily as he looked at you with almost wide, terrified eyes “I really need some space.”
Sam held his breath as he watched with almost wide eyes on his own the scene unfold before him, expecting anxiously his brother's reaction. He really hoped he didn't overreact, though, that his words were carefully thought, calm and collected instead of-
“You're breaking up with me?!” Dean nearly yelped the exclaim and Sam couldn't help but roll his eyes. There went the first option of a civilized conversation, right out of the window.
You held his gaze for a couple more seconds, face completely blank before you finally snapped or close to it as you punched Dean on the shoulder “You're taking up all the bed you little piece of shit! I just need some space to sleep comfortably without having the fear of ending up on the floor, you idiot! I haven't been able to sleep well for the entire week because of you just sprawl out on the damn bed and take up all of the freaking space!”
When a kick on the foot under the table followed, Sam couldn't help but snort and let the smile rest on his lips. Relief, no doubt ten times bigger, washed over his brother though Sam wasn't sure for how long it would last.
“I'm so-”
“Oh no, you don't get to apologize! You don't get to say shit about this Winchester. I barely slept two hours last night, two freaking hours! All the while you were sprawled and snoring softly and murmuring in your sleep and enjoying your time in freaking dreamland like Sleeping Beauty!” but you apparently could snap harder and much as it made Dean back down with wide eyes, Sam was thoroughly enjoying it “So you want to be a good boyfriend and really try to make our relationship work? How about you start with the freaking basics such as letting me survive! Cause last time I checked lack of sleep is detrimental to one's health.”
“I- I will. I promise, I-”
“You fucking better.” you hissed, glaring at him before you grabbed your cup and got up, pausing only to look at Sam but with less menace because, in all honesty, he wasn't the one that wouldn't let you sleep “See? That's why I didn't like falling in love! Before you know it you sacrifice everything that's important to you for the other one. From sleep to your favorite cake! At least back then I didn't have to share my bed with anyone, it was all mine. And gosh, I will forever mourn that last piece I didn't get to eat. See, back when we weren't together he would have never dared do something like that! Now he has the audacity to do than and think that makeup sex will solve everything.” you scoffed shaking your head before muttering “Have a good day Sammy.” and exiting the kitchen.
“You have a nice day, too, honey.” Dean said albeit a bit more hesitantly, voice small.
“Don't tell me what to do!” you yelled both so that he could hear you and so that he knew you were far from alright “And stay the fuck away from my leftover fries!”
“I- alright.” Dean let out a breath, eyes wide before he shook his head and cleared his throat “Ok, well, it's safe to say that we don't have to wonder or worry anymore, right? So, silver lining.”
“Well, that did look like an (Y/n) who hasn't slept well, so yes it's safe to say we can be sure about what troubles her. Though I don't think that you're far from done.”
“No, yeah, I had no such illusion.” Dean sighed, getting his cup and taking a sip “I'm definitely gonna be sleeping on the floor for the next week.”
“Hmm maybe make it two?”

Another Winchester?
AN: Hello Everyone! So lately I’ve been wanting to write a winchester x sister!reader and I got this idea. Just know that this is my first ever story that I have shared with anyone else so please let me know of any mistakes or any of your thoughts. Thank you!
Summary: You are the little sister of The infamous Winchester brothers and this is how you meet them. This is set in season six after Sam gets his soul back.
Warnings: Mentions of drinking and drugs, language, mentions of sex, some violence, mention of abusive mother, suicide by overdose, some blood and I think that’s it.
!TRIGGER WARNING! If you are easily triggered by mentions of abuse, suicide or drugs please DO NOT read this.
Your name is (YN) Anderson. You’re 14 and a hunter. Your mother is Melinda Anderson who is a alcoholic and a drug addict. She was always either high or drunk and no matter what day or time it was. She was unemployed and brought home sketchy men almost every night.  She had an awful temper and the tiniest things would set her off and when she got angry, you didn’t want to be with her.  She would take it out on you and if she was too tired or drunk she would let her one night stands beat you until you were unconscious.
Let’s just say you weren’t a big fan of her. You’ve tried to run away multiple times but since your mom has many drug dealers and one night stands pretty much everywhere in town you would always get caught.
Your father was John Winchester the infamous hunter. You didn’t know much about him. All that you knew was that he was in the Marines and that his wife, Mary Winchester, died in 1983. From time to time you would daydream about him, wondering what your life would be like if you lived with him instead of your mom.
John worked a case in that town and after he finished the job he went to a bar got drunk and found your mom. Nine months later you were born.
You met your father when you were seven and there was a pack of werewolves in town that your father was hunting. He found out about you a couple years earlier and was surprised to find out that he had another child. Since he had been close to finding Yellow Eyes he didn’t have time to visit you and since him and Dean were hunting together for most of the time he didn’t want Dean to grow suspicious.
John shot a bullet in the heart of what he thought was the last werewolf he decided to finally go meet you.  He was nervous because he didn’t want anything happening to you considering his job.
He finally pulled up to your house. It was small and a little rundown but he didn’t care. All he cared about was you.
You were watching cartoons on the old TV in the living room when you heard the doorbell ring. Your little head perked up and the sudden noise.  You hopped off of the couch and walked over to the door and opened it only to reveal a man who was tall and muscular.  He looked down at you and started to take in your features.
You were a spitting image of him except you had your mother’s chin and pale skin. You looked at each other in wonder for a good minute.
“H-hi” you squeaked. You were scared of the man standing at your door, especially since he was so big.
“Hey” John said while he was kneeling down to your height. God she is so small he thought.
“Who are you?” You said with more confidence.
John hesitated before he spoke. “My name is John.”
“What are you doing here?” You spoke while crossing your arms.
“I came to meet you.” He said
“Why?”
“Because...” he said while trying to think of the right words “I’m your father.”
You were surprised and a little confused.
You had a lot of questions. Your father? What was he doing here? Where had he been all your short and terrible life? You squinted your eyes and tilted your head a little.
John knew that you were confused “I know that this is a lot of information to take in and maybe if you get your mother then maybe she can explain things easier then I can.”
You didn’t want to bring you mother into this because then she would get furious at you about opening the door and talking to this man. You were tempted to let him in and talk to him and not caring about what her thoughts were. You knew what the punishment would be if you did that. But you were curious to learn more about this man.
“Mom isn’t home right now but you can come in if you want.”
John looked at you in shock. The way you trusted him to come into your house since you just met him made him worried. He saw how sketchy this town was and he saw some of the people, most importantly the men, on the streets and was nervous about how trusting you were.
“Are you sure?”
“Yeah”
“Don’t you think that I might hurt you or something?” He asked.
“No”
“Why is that?”
“Because you have a different look in your eyes then the other guys in this town.” You stated.
She’s smart thought John.
“So do you want to come in or...” you asked.
John hesitated “Uh yeah”
You opened the door for him and John walked in. He observed the place. It was dirty and needed cleaning, badly. You seemed to notice his eyes lingering on a certain spot on the wall.
“Sorry” you said shyly
“For what?”
“Our house is dirty” you said while tears started to form in your eyes.
John noticed this and kneeled down once again and hugged you. “It’s alright” he said. You sniffled and pulled back.
“Are you sure?”
“Yeah”
You two moved over to the couch and sat down. Y’all stared to talk and before you knew it, it was dark outside.
You yawned.
“You tired?” John asked
“Yeah” you said while yawning agian
“Why don’t we put you to bed? Huh?”
“Will you be here tomorrow?” You asked
John sighed “I don’t think I can stay.”
“Why not?” You said sadly
“Because-“ but before he could say anything else the front door crashed opened and 3 men with yellow eyes, long nails and pointed teeth ran in.
You screamed while John hid you behind his back. The wolves surrounded the both of you.
“Well well what do we have here?” The biggest of the three said “The mighty John Winchester with a little girl. How cute.”
John pulled out his gun “How did you find us?”
“It wasn’t too hard. We just followed your scent and it led us to you.” Said another wolf.
“I’m going to enjoy ripping you apart for killing my family” said the biggest wolf.
“And the little girl will just be a bonus” snickered the smallest.
“Ok listen, you can have me just let her go” John said while you were clinging to his legs, shaking like a leaf.
“I don’t think that’s gonna happen” said the second wolf.
Then all of a sudden you screamed as you were ripped from Johns legs by a wolf that came in through the back door.
“No!” Yelled John
You were now crying hysterically. You didn’t know what was happening or who these people were. “Dad!” You screamed holding your arms out to him while struggling to get away from the werewolf holding you.
“Dad?” Said the one holding you “You have another kid?” The werewolf asked as he bent down and smelled you which was startling and made you whimper. Then the wolf stood up to his full height and said “Yep the little rugrat is yours. I can smell your blood in her veins.”
“Please just let her go” John pleaded “I’ll give you anything!”
“Now this doesn’t sound like the big, bad John Winchester that I’ve heard about.” Said the smallest one.
“How about you let her go and then I’ll show you how big and bad I am” John said with a sneer.
“Hmmm that does sound tempting but I have a better idea.” Said the fourth werewolf.
He kneeled and looked at you in the eyes while putting one hand on each shoulder. “This isn’t going to hurt for long” he said while showing you his teeth. You whimpered, still trying to get away from the monster from your nightmares.
Then a gunshot went off behind you which made you scream once again.
John was tackled to the ground by the other two werewolves and his gun slid across the floor hitting the wall to your left.
You were trying to get to him when the wolf that was holding you grabbed you tight and dug is long, sharp nails into your shoulders. You screamed in pain.
John brought out a silver knife and killed the other two wolves. He then tackled the wolf holding you and was on top of him in seconds.
They were fighting and you ran to the nearest corner watching as best that you could with the tears that were in your eyes.
The wolf then punched your dad in the face and flipped them so now he had the upper hand while your dad was struggling underneath him.
You were scared but you wanted to help so you looked over at the gun and picked it up.
You didn’t know how to use a gun but you did know that when you pulled the trigger the bullet would come out. So you pointed it at the monster that was hurting your father and you pulled the trigger.
A load shot rang off the walls and startled you. John then pushed the dead wolf off of him and ran over to you.
“Are you ok?”
You were shaking and confused “WHAT WAS THAT?!”
John sighed and debated on telling you what that really was.
“DAD WERE THOSE THINGS?” You Said sobbing.
He pulled you into a hug and picked you up. He then sat on the couch with you in his lap.
No way I’m getting out of this one John thought. He sighed. The told you everything.
You were terrified and confused.
After a while you fell asleep in Johns lap. He put you to bed, cleaned up the mess and left.
You woke up the next morning looking for your father but he was nowhere to be found.
About a week later a package came in the mail you opened it and it was a journal from him telling you everything you needed to know about how to kill monsters. That was the last time you ever saw your father.
Seven years later
(YN)’s POV
Dammit!
You just got off of your shift from the towns diner and you were running late to get home.
Mom is going to be so pissed.
Since your Mom didn’t work you had to find a job which was the dishwasher at the local diner. You were surprised that they would hire you considering that you were only 14 but life is full of surprises.
You ran down the street at full speed and took two right turns and one left and there was your house.
You were hoping that your mother wasn’t home but your luck seems to be running out lately because her car was in the driveway.
Crap
You took some deep breaths and walked through the front door.
Something was off. You could feel it. The TV wasn’t on like it normally is or the fresh smell of weed wasn’t was strong as it usually was. But mom could be upstairs with another guy like Ace or James but there was this weird feeling in the pit of your stomach telling you different.
You pulled out your gun loaded with silver bullets and started to go though the house. Downstairs was clean. You slowly start to walk up the stairs to the second floor. She wasn’t in the bathroom or your bedroom. You took the risk of checking her room.
You opened the door and you found her on the floor. Unmoving.
You walk over see a empty pill bottle in one hand and half a bottle of Jack Daniels in the other.
She still hasn’t moved.
You bent down slowly and checked her pulse.
Nothing.
Your mother was dead.
Dean’s POV
“I don’t know man. There isn’t any activity out there.” Said Sam
“Well I guess that we got lucky then.” Dean said as he looked over at his brother.
Sam scoffed “Dean I’m fine. I don’t remember anything about being soulless or anything about hell. So you can stop worrying about me.”
“I’m sorry have you met me?” Dean said “ I just want you to be careful and not having any activity is good because people are safe and you have less of a chance of your wall breaking and leaving you a drooling mess on the floor.”
Sam rolled his eyes “Yeah, whatever”
Dean returned is concentration to the road. He was actually glad that he could have a day off and hopefully he could stop thinking about the world ending crap that was hanging over their heads.
Another hour passed then there was a vibration coming from the glove department.
“What’s that?” Asked Dean
“I think its one of dad’s old phones.” Said Sam while he was opening the glove department. He searched through the clutter until he found the phone.
He answered it.
“Hello?” Sam Said
“Hello is this John Winchester?” Said a woman on the other end with an annoying high pitched voice.
Sam look over at Dean.
What? Dean mouthed
They’re asking for Dad. Sam mouthed back.
What do they want?
I don’t know
“Sir are you still there?” Said the annoying woman on the phone.
“Yeah I’m still here.”
“Is this John Winchester?” She asked again.
“Umm... no this isn’t him.” Said Sam. Dean then took the phone out of his brothers hand and started to talk.
“Why do you need him?” Asked Dean
“Sorry sir I cannot tell you unless you are John Winchester or a relative” said the woman.
“I’m his son. Now who are you and why do you need my father?” Dean said angrily.
“Apologies. My name is Cindy with Bay Area Adoption Services in Mountain View, California.  I am calling regarding John Winchester’s daughter.”
Daughter?
“Umm last time I checked my father doesn’t have another kid.” Said Dean.
“Well he does. His name is on her birth certificate and there was a DNA test done when she was born and this was the only number listed to get in contact with him.”
Dean was confused. Dad had a daughter? He had a little sister? Why didn’t he tell me about her?
“Why do you need him? Did something happen?” Dean asked.
“Yes something happened but I cannot discuss that over the phone since I have no identification on who you are. If you want to talk about the situation then we are going to have to meet up.”
“Umm ok. Where do you want to meet up at?”
“Bay Area Adoption Services in Mountain View, California” Said Cindy
They were in Nevada which was about 11 hours until Mountain View.
“What time?”
...
“I can’t believe we are doing this.” Said Dean. He was starting to have second thoughts.
“Hey it’s our sister. It doesn’t hurt to be curious.” Said Sam
“Yeah but what if she is like Adam? Huh? What then?”
“What if she’s not?” Argued Sam
“Well-“ Dean was interrupted by Cindy walking through the door.
“Hello! You much be the Winchester brothers! It’s so nice to meet you!” Cindy Said.
God her voice is worse in person. Thought Dean.
“Yup that’s us.” Sam Said
“So I’ve gone over your identifications and you seem to fit the profiles.” Cindy Said too enthusiastically.
“Good” Said Dean
“So I’m thinking that you would like to know some things about your sister.”
“Yeah” Dean said
“Well (YN) is 14 and a straight A student in all honors classes. She is actually in a grade higher than she should be. She is a little shy but who can blame her for everything she’s been through.”
“Wait. Everything she’s been through?” Asked Dean
“Well she didn’t have a father figure in life and her mother was a alcoholic and a drug addict who was also abusive.  Since her mother was unemployed, (YN) had to work two jobs after school and on the weekends. So her life hasn’t been easy.”
“She was abused? Why didn’t you do anything about it?” Asked Sam
“Believe me we tried.” Said Cindy “But every time we went to inspect, her mother would hide things, so we had nothing to report. But we could tell after the incident that (YN) was a little relieved that she wasn’t around her anymore.”
“The incident?” Asked Dean
“(YN) came home from working at the local diner to find her mother dead on the floor.”
Sam and Dean shared a look.
“How exactly did her mother die?” Asked Sam
“Overdose on sleeping pills and alcohol.” Cindy stated. “Why?”
“Just curious” Said Dean
Poor kid
“Okay... well would you like to meet (YN)?”
Cindy Asked.
“Why not” Dean Said with a slightly fake smile.
“Let me go get her.” Said Cindy happily.
(YN)’s POV
They pulled you out of breakfast to talk to someone who might be willing to adopt you. You’ve been here for three days now and all you wanted was to get the hell out of there. Lately you’ve been planning to get out and your pretty close to a almost foul proof plan.
Cindy took you into a room with 4 chairs and a table in the middle. It looked like an interrogation room. There were also two men. One was really tall with long, shaggy hair with puppy dog eyes. The other was slightly shorter with short, spiky hair and apple green eyes. Both were muscled and intimidating to you, considering that you were only 5’1.
“I’ll leave you three to talk to each other.” Cindy Said in her annoyingly high pitched voice.
She closed the door and there was an awkward silence that followed.
You walked over to the table and sat down in front of the two of them.  You stared at each other for a little while when the taller one that reminds you of a moose decided to break the ice.
“Hi. I’m Sam and this is my brother Dean.” He Said as he held out his hand for you to shake.
“Umm hi. I’m (YN)” you said quietly, taking Sam’s hand.
You looked over at Dean to see if his hand was out to shake but it wasn’t so you just put your hand in your lap.
An awkward silence followed. “So...” you said trying release the tension in the room.
“So...” Said Dean
“Umm So where did you guys come from?” You Asked
“Northern Nevada” Sam said
“Huh. Isn’t that like 11 hours away or something?” You asked
“Yup” Dean said flatly. He looked bored. Like he didn’t want to be here but honestly neither did you.
A moment of silence followed. You kept looking around the room while wringing your hands, trying to think of a way to either break the silence or get out of there.
While you were looking around your necklace fell out of the collar of your shirt which had an anti possession symbol on it.
“What’s that?” Dean said pointing to your necklace.
You looked down and saw the necklace. “Oh umm it’s a charm that prevents possession.” You Said. Wow real smooth (YN). Now they might think that you worship Satan or something.
“Possession? Like demonic or...?” Dean questioned.
“Well yeah.” You Said.
“Huh. You believe that stuff?” Dean asked skeptically.
You looked at him in the eye. “Call me superstitious.”
Sam and Dean looked at you curiously.
These two know a lot more than they were letting on. The way that they looked at you and the way that Dean asked questions, they probably knew a thing or two about the supernatural world. You were going to ask them if they believed in the supernatural but the door suddenly opened and in walked Cindy “Well now that you’ve learned a little bit about each other I hope that the brothers have come to a conclusion.” She said hopefully while looking between you and the brothers.
“Umm...well... could we talk to you in private please:” Sam Said
“Of course! (YN) could you please come with me?”
“Yeah, sure” you said. You wanted to get out of there more than anything. You gave one last look over to the mysterious brothers who are supposedly from Nevada and you walked out.
Cindy took you to your temporary room and closed the door behind you.
Something was off about those two. I can feel it. I don’t want to stick around and find out. You decided to put your plan into action. You grabbed your backpack with your clothes, money and hunting supplies then opened your window. You were on the third floor so jumping wasn’t an option. You looked on both sides of the building noticing a fire escape a couple of feet away. The only way to get to that was to walk on the tiny ledge on the side of the building that couldn’t have been more than a foot wide. So your options were you could either go with those mysterious men who were demons or god knows what or walk down this ledge and more than likely fall and break a couple of bones.
No competition.
You carefully put your foot on the ledge and grabbed onto the side of the building as best as you could. You started to shuffle over to carefully.  There was a large gust of wind that nearly made you topple over the edge but you quickly grabbed onto the edge of the fire escape. Breathing in a sigh of relief, you put one leg over the rail of the escape, then the other. You started to climb down the ladder until you reached the ground.
You ran down the alley and never looked back at the adoption center.
Deans POV
Cindy came back 3 minutes later.
“So have you boys come to a decision?” Cindy asked.
“Well...(YN) seems like a good kid but-” Sam tried to say but Dean interrupted him “Is there a way that we can wait on the adoption? So that we can have some time to think about this?” Sam gave is brother a look saying what are you doing?
“Of course. I can give you 24 hours to think this over. I understand your hesitation considering that adoption is a huge step in both yours and (YN)’s life.”
“Great. See you in 24 hours.” Dean said while walking out of the room.
Once the brothers were outside and in Baby, Sam had a million questions for his brother.
“What the hell Dean?”
“What?”
“You’re not seriously considering this, are you?”
“Why not?” Dean asked
“Dean you know that this life isn’t for a kid, especially one who has barley lived their life.” Sam argued.
“Don’t you think that I know that? I’m not stupid Sam, I know how dangerous this life is, but you saw her necklace and she knew exactly what it represented. Maybe she already hunts.”
“Are you nuts Dean? She’s only 14. How could she hunt? With a fake badge? We both know that no one would buy that and not to mention that she didn’t have that look to her.”
“What look?”
“The look that every hunter has, the look of not having hope and the look of lose and pain.”
“That doesn’t mean anything. I think that she already knows about whats really in the dark and she more than likely knows how to kill almost every evil son of bitch that’s out there.” Dean said.
“We need proof Dean.” Sam said with a hint of annoyance.
“I know that. I’m still not even 100% about this yet but how about this, if we can’t find any proof in the next 24 hours then we drop it and let (YN) have a normal life and get adopted by a soccer mom or something, but if we do find any proof then we can take her and help her.  After all she is Dad’s kid, so if any monsters find out about that then we have to protect her. Deal?” Dean offered.
Sam sighed and looked out the window for a good minute before answering. “Deal”
(YN)’s  POV
You walked to the bus station and opened the door.  There weren’t that many people in there. There was a married couple arguing with the ticket agent about a refund, there was a frazzled mother and her crying child at the vending machines and there was a homeless man who was very dirty and sitting at one of the many benches.
You walked over to one of the counters to a ticket agent who looked bored and annoyed.  “Can I help you?” He said flatly.
“Umm yeah I was hoping to buy a bus ticket.” You said
“Doesn’t everyone.” Said the man “And aren’t you a little young to be buying a bus ticket by yourself?”
You pulled out your wallet and handed the man a 20. “I don’t have to be.” You said.
The agent perked up and immediately took the money with a little too much force.  “Where to?”
“Whats your furthest route?” You asked.
“Hmm lemme see.” The man said while looking at his computer.  After about half a minute of listening to the man type he answered “Aspen, Colorado.”
“Perfect. How much?”
“About $400.”
Your mouth dropped open but you gotta do what you gotta do “Okay” You said while handing him the money. He counted the money out loud and when he was satisfied he pushed a button on the keyboard and a ticket printed out. He handed you the ticket. “The bus leaves here in about 5 hours.”
“Okay, thank you.” You stared to walk out but something crossed your mind. You need to cover your tracks because CPS will be looking for you and they would more than likely come here. So you turned around and walked back to the counter and pulled out a 50 and handed it to the man. “If anybody comes in here asking for me, tell them that I went to Southern California.”
The man gave you a look but took the money. “You betcha.”
You walked out of the building and you put the ticket into your left jacket pocket. You had time to kill and on your way here you saw a small diner. So you started to make your way to the diner.
...
You took a seat  at the back of the diner and sat in a chair facing away from the door. You ordered a bacon cheeseburger with extra fries and extra bacon with a cherry coke. While you were waiting for your food you heard a rumble of a car. You turned around and saw a beautiful black ‘67 Chevy Impala pulling into a parking spot.
Damn what I would kill to have that car
While you were admiring the car you didn’t see who was driving it.  When both of the front doors swung open the two men from the adoption center walked out and shut the doors.
Crap. What are they doing here?
You turned around and put on your hood on to cover your face.
I can’t leave now, they would notice me.
You tried to think of any escape routes other than the front door. The back door from the kitchen might work if you didn’t get caught which is a pretty big if. There might be a window in the bathroom but if there wasn’t then you would have to walk out and risk them seeing your face. You were trapped.
The bell above the door rung and Sam and Dean walked in and sat down at one of the tables in the middle. You moved your hair to try to cover your face more.
“What are you two fellas gonna get?” The waitress, Kacey, asked.
“I’ll have a bacon cheeseburger with extra bacon and extra fries while my brother here will have a salad with extra tomatoes.”
“Ok. I’ll get that right out.” Kacey said in a cheery voice.
After a couple of minutes of listening to Sam and Dean argue about who was better, Jet Li or Chuck Norris, Kacey brought out your order.
“Would you like to have any condiments with that?΅
“Umm, some ketchup please.” You said quietly trying not to be heard by the brothers.
“Okay! Be out in a shake!” Kacey said while walking back to the kitchen.
Deans phone rang and he answered it. After another minute of waiting, Kacey walked out with the ketchup. She placed the bottle on the table and walked away. You put some by your fries and on your burger. When you were done you screwed the lid back on it and placed it on the edge of the table. Dean hung up the call and started to talk quietly with Sam. You reached for your drink and your arm bumped into the bottle which made it topple over the edge of the table. It broke with a crash.
Of course it had to be a glass bottle.
Everyone in the tiny diner looked at where the noise came from and looked straight at you. You looked up and saw the brothers staring at you.
Uh oh
They shared a look, stood up and walked over to your table.
Crap what do I do?
They stood at the end of your table and stared down at you.
“Well hello (YN). Fancy meeting you here.” Dean said.
You tried to play it off cool. “I know. Isn’t it a small world?” You said with a nervous chuckle.
Dean crossed his arms while Sam arched is eyebrow.
“What are you doing here?” Sam asked while taking a seat across from you. Dean followed suit.
“Umm...eating?”
“Cute. He means why are you here instead of the adoption center?” Dean said
“Well... I went on a walk and got hungry and then I came here.” You said while scratching the back of your neck.
“Huh” Sam said, not buying a word you were saying,“Some walk. Considering that the adoption center just called us saying that you were missing.” Sam said.
You didn’t know what do say so you just looked down at your hands in your lap.
“Are you running away?” Dean asked
You looked back up at them. “If you want to call it that.”
“Why?” Dean asked while looking in your eyes.
“Because I don’t want to stick around here and I don’t want to get adopted.”
“Why not?” Sam asked while looking at you with his puppy eyes.
“Because I have very bad luck that follows me wherever I go. Believe me I’m saving you the trouble.” You said while popping a fry in your mouth.
“Bad luck like...” Sam pried
“Bad luck like getting people hurt or worse.” You said a little agitated.
“Is this about your mom?” Dean asked
You tensed when he said the word mom.
“No”
The brothers noticed you tense. “Are you sure?” Sam asked.
You let out an angry sigh “This has nothing to do with my mom. I hated her and I know what you are gonna say ‘Oh your just overreacting’ or some crap like that but I did and I still do.  She was a selfish bitch who only cared about drinking, drugs and sex. So could you please drop it.” You now had tears spilling down your face and you avoided eye contact with Sam and Dean.
Silence followed for about a minute then you wiped your face and got your self situated. “I’m sorry. I-I didn’t mean to blow up like that.”
“Hey its okay. Its understandable.” Sam said
You sniffled.
More awkward silence followed. You wanted to break the silence so you asked them a question. “So I’m just wondering, why did you guys come from Nevada for me?”
“Well we got a phone call from the agency telling us about you.” Dean said
“Why? Were you guys looking for someone to adopt or what?” You asked
Sam and Dean looked at each other then Dean spoke. “No but they were looking for our dad.”
“Why would they be looking for your dad?”
The brothers were quiet for a little bit, trying to find the right words.
“Who are you people?” You asked
“We told you.” Dean said
“Yeah you told me your first names and that’s it.”
Dean sighed “My name is Dean Winchester and this is my brother Sam.”
“Winchester? Like John Winchester?” You asked
“You know him?” Dean asked
“Well yeah. He’s my dad.” You said it like it was obvious.
“Well... he’s our dad too.” Sam said
“What?!” You said. Dad had other kids? I had brothers?
“Hold on. Have you even met dad before?” Dean asked
“Once. About seven years ago.”
“What happened?”
You went quiet. “You wouldn’t believe me.”
“Try us” Sam said
You sighed. “I was seven and it was a normal day. Mom was out and I was home alone when the doorbell rang. I went to answer it and there stood Dad. We talked and hung out all day and when it was night I was ready to go to bed when...” you stopped yourself. If you told them what really happened then they would think that you are crazy.
“When what?” Dean asked
“When the door was kicked in and some... werewolves broke in.” You looked up at your brothers and they were staring at you.
“I told you that you wouldn’t believe me.”
“We never said we didn’t” Sam said calmly “What happened after that?”
You took a deep breath “Then they surrounded us while Dad got a gun out. The wolves were talking about how he didn’t seem to live up to his reputation. One snuck in and grabbed me from Dad.  It nearly bit me when dad killed the others and tackled the one who was holding me.  I saw his gun on the floor. picked it up and killed it. Then Dad told me about everything.”
Sam and Dean were quiet.
“Then what happened?” Sam asked
“I woke up the next morning and he was gone. A week later he sent this in the mail.” You dug around in your bag when you finally found the old, leather bound journal that he sent to you all those years ago.
“This has taught me everything I know about hunting.” You said as you handed your brothers the journal.
Dean took it and flipped through the pages. “It’s in his handwriting.” He said to Sam.
Sam then took it from his brother and did the same as Dean. He handed it back to you.
Sam spoke “We have one like it.” He signaled Dean to get it out. Dean gave you a wary look but got it out and handed it to you.
It looked just like yours but thicker and more worn.
“May I?” You asked
Dean and Sam nodded.
You flipped it open. You were hit with the smell of whiskey and ink. You flipped through the pages when a picture fell out. You picked it up and observed it. It was of a woman with a bright smile and blond hair hugging a little boy whose face was full of freckles and had bright green eyes.
You looked up at Dean and asked him “Is this you and your mom?”
“Yeah” He said with a hint of sadness
“She’s pretty.” You said as you handed him the photo and the journal.
“Thanks” He said.
“So, you hunt?” Sam said
“Yeah I do. Mostly ghosts and demons but there’s been a pack of werewolves or vamps here and there. I killed a ghoul and a witch once. That wasn’t very fun.” You told them.
They looked at you like you just grew two heads.
“By yourself?” Dean asked in shock.
“Yeah”
“But your only 14.” Sam said with the same amount of shock as his brother.
“And? Age is just a number. I know how to work a gun and I know how to kick some ass.” You said in a proud voice.
“When did you actually start to hunt?” Dean asked in a big brother voice.
“When I was 10. When I was younger I found cases and sent them to local hunters and now I hunt with cases that are near me.” You told them.
Dean shook his head while Sam’s mouth hung open.
“And another thing. How do I know if you are legit? You could be a ghoul or a shifter for all I know.”
Sam and Dean gave you a look but held out their arms for you to test. You looked around to make sure that no one was watching when you pulled out a small pocket knife made of silver and cut them both with it. When their skin didn’t sizzle you got out a flask that had a cross on the outside of it and poured it onto their skin.
“Okay. Your turn.” Dean said.
You held out your arm and he did the same to you. When you were all satisfied you spoke. “Sorry I meant to do that earlier but I didn’t want you to think that I was trying to kill you or something.”
“We understand. It doesn’t hurt to be too careful.” Sam said with a smile.
Some time passed with silence.
“So what now?” You asked your brothers.
“What do you mean?” Dean asked
“Well I have two options. Option one is to take this bus ticket-” you pulled out the bus ticket you bought earlier “- or I could go with you guys.”
Sam and Dean looked at each other and had a silent conversation.
“Look, I know that is a lot to ask of you guys. I mean your the infamous Winchester brothers who saved the world. You always have a world ending crisis on your plates and I get if this is too much. I can go on my way and if you like, we don’t have to talk to each other again. It’s your choice.”
They both looked at you like you were crazy.
“Would you quit hunting if you went on your own?” Dean asked
“No” You said
“Why not?” Sam asked
“Because you can’t just leave the hunting life. You can run and hide all you want but it will catch up to you. So I might as well embrace my future rather than fight it and get hurt.”
You had a point. Both Sam and Dean have tried to live normal lives but it didn’t work out and they didn’t want you to go through that pain that they went through. Although they didn’t want you to go through the pain of the hunting life, you had them to protect you. That much they knew.
After a while of thinking Dean stood up and Sam followed suit. They started to walk to the front of the diner. Dean turned around and said “You coming or not kid?”
A smile grew on your face. You grabbed your backpack and slung it over your shoulder while you threw some cash on the table and you walked towards your brothers.
Sam opened the back door of the impala for you and you slid in. Both brothers got in the front seat and Dean turned the key in the ignition which made the engine roar a beautiful sound.
You pulled onto the highway that lead you down your new life and destiny.
The End
(Sorry if this sucked. It was my first story)

15x18 Fics - !SPOILERS AHEAD!
I think we can all agree that everyone - fans or not - were pretty shocked by the reveal of last week, and everywhere (Tumblr most of all) seemed to explode. AO3 was not exempt from this massive outpouring of creations, so here are some fics based on That Scene. I will warn you that not all of them are fix-it fics, and most of them are quite short for obvious reasons.
Like Real People Do by prosopopeya on AO3. (4,490 words).
Tags: Coda, Episode Fix-it, Fluff and Angst, Spoilers, Post Episode: s15e18 Despair, Angst with a Happy Ending.
My Rating: 5 stars.
Description: Castiel experienced a moment of pure happiness, expecting it to be his last. It wasn't.
Notes: This was so poetic and absolutely gorgeous.
The same old tears (wish you were here) by DestielIsFuckinReal on AO3. (1,992 words).
Tags: Temporary Character Death, Post Episode: s15e18 Despair, Coda, Love Confessions, Angst with a Happy Ending.
My Rating: 5 stars.
Notes: The speech marks were slightly annoying, but other than that, this was beautiful.
Never Enough by make_your_user_a_name on AO3. (1,556 words).
Tags: Post Episode: s15e18 Despair, Angst, Suicidal Thoughts, Love Confessions, Supportive Sam Winchester, Sam Winchester Knows, Domestic Fluff.
My Rating: 5 stars.
Description: It took him hours to notice it. He hadn’t felt it in the moment. Hadn’t felt the Cas’ hand stick slightly to his shoulder as it pushed him away, leaving him to face the Empty alone. But now that he’d noticed it, it was all he could look at. That bright red handprint standing out starkly against his jacket. It was perfect, really. Not a drop out of place. Just a handprint and nothing else. That was all he had left. The handprint where Castiel had “gripped him tight and raised him from perdition.” And now he’d saved him one more time. Same shoulder, same placement, same sting when Dean looked at it. It was poetic in the cruelest of ways. And if it weren’t for everything, he would have thought this was Chuck’s writing. But, no. Castiel was the only part of Chuck’s story that he couldn’t control. Because Cas had fallen.
Notes: Now this fic brought out the ugly tears.
this is a good thing, dean. (prayer is a sign of faith) by cascountsdeansfreckles on AO3. (529 words).
Tags: Prayer, Dean Winchester Prays to Castiel, post 15x18, 15x18 coda.
My Rating: 5 stars.
Description: Dean’s legs still don’t want to move. He sits propped up against the wall and stares unseeing at the chair in the middle of the room. Everything that Cas said plays over and over in his head. The image of Cas looking devastatingly relieved, content, as he was taken from Dean won’t leave his mind. He doesn’t know what else to do. So he prays.
Notes: Okay, and I’m crying. Again. The one time Cas can’t hear Dean’s prayers is the one time it is the most important.
all the things i’ve never said by Saffir on AO3. (849 words).
Tags: 15x18 Fix-it, Angst, Heavy Angst, First Kiss, Confessions, Sad Ending, Nonbinary Castiel.
My Rating: 5 stars.
Description: Castiel knows that their time has come. The past decade has been spent protecting Dean, living for Dean, dying for Dean. It finally comes time to sacrifice themself one last time. He wasn’t expecting it to hurt this much.
Notes: Confirmation of their relationship would have been nice! I mean, I firmly believe Dean reciprocated, but it would be nice to know for sure. And oh boy, I had not stopped to think about the scene from Cas’ point of view.
gay love pierced through the veil of death and saved the day by firefliesandstarlight on AO3. (444 words).
Tags: Fix-it, Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence, Alternate Universe - Everyone Lives.
My Rating: 4 stars.
Description: Cas doesn’t die. That’s literally it.
Notes: Is it bad I found out that Charlie died through the end notes of this fic? Like, imagine writing a scene so moving that it overpowers the fact that several other fan favourites died in that same episode.
15x18 coda: it’s in the being by contemplativepancakes on AO3. (1,167 words).
Tags: Post Episode: s15e18 Despair, Coda, Dean Winchester Can’t Cope, Hurt Dean Winchester.
My Rating: 4 stars.
Description: Blood splatters from a severed neck, the body twitching before it collapses to the floor. It sprays across Dean’s face, dotting red droplets over his cheeks and in his hair. Dean keeps his mouth shut so he doesn’t get the taste of copper stuck in it; he already can’t get Cas’s face out of his mind. Dean knows this is the last place he should be, that with the world ending, it doesn’t really matter if there’s one less nest of vamps in the world, but if he stops moving, then he’ll… have to think. “I wondered what my true happiness could even look like, because the one thing I want, it’s something I know I can’t have.”
Fuck, they wasted so much time.
Notes: I don’t even know what to say anymore. My heart is simultaneously full and utterly broken.
1 Missed Call by glenien on AO3. (597 words).
Tags: Post Episode: s15e18 Despair, Referenced Character Death, Angst, Dean Winchester is a Dumbass, Angst with a Happy Ending, Death!Castiel, Coda, Fluff and Angst.
My Rating: 4 stars.
Description: The buzzing never stops.
Notes: I love the implications of Dean literally flirting with Death here, and even though this isn’t the ending I think we’ll get, I can still hope!
Only know you love him when you let him go by Azura_lights_18 on AO3. (1,365 words).
Tags: Angst, Canonical Character Death, Post Episode: s15e18 Despair, Hurt/Comfort, Dean Deserves to be Happy, Angst with a Happy Ending.
My Rating: 4 stars.
Description: Destiel is finally canon... for ten seconds. My hopes for the upcoming episodes (just let Destiel live, please.)
Notes: I am loving the inventive ways people are bringing Cas back! I have hope, but that might just be me putting my clown wig on.
maybe just this once (let me keep this one) by psyiocke on AO3. (1,678 words).
Tags: Episode: s15e18 Despair, Canonical Character Death, Angst with a Happy Ending.
My Rating: 4 stars.
Description: Dean Winchester listens in silence, and he mourns in it too.
or the aftermath of hearing your best friend say he loves you and then watching him die.
Notes: Oh boy here I go again. That tag, by the way, is much too soon. But if this is what happened at the end, I would be happy.
Instinct by CKLizzy on AO3. (510 words).
Tags: Fix-it of Sorts, Episode s15e18 Despair, Episode Fix-it.
My Rating: 4 stars.
Description: Dean reacted on pure instinct. Instinct he didn't know he even had.
Notes: Oh, if only. I would have passed out.
A World Redeemed by Lif61 on AO3. (732 words).
Tags: Season 15 Spoilers, Post Episode: s15e18 Despair, POV Dean Winchester, Romance, Love, Happy Ending.
My Rating: 3 stars.
Description: Cas is gone, and the world is saved. But not for Dean.
Notes: I do really hope Cas comes back. Otherwise, I’m gonna have to go and have some words with someone.
Happiness is What Makes You Cry by AnotherWorld3111 on AO3. (358 words).
Tags: Angst, Referenced Character Death, Canonical Character Death, Post Episode: s15e18 Despair, Hurt No Comfort, Love Confessions.
My Rating: 3 stars.
Description: Just... read the goddamn tags
Notes: Oh man, if Dean actually breaks down in front of Sam, I will die on the spot.
All Out of Love by asofthesea on AO3. (681 words).
Tags: Not Actually Unrequited Love, Angst and Feels, Hurt/Comfort, Emotional Hurt/Comfort, Post Episode: s15e18 Despair, Homophobic John Winchester, Protective Sam Winchester, Hurt Dean Winchester, Hurt Jack Kline, One Shot, Brotherly Love, Feelings.
My Rating: 3 stars.
Description: After the events of 15x18, Despair, Sam and Jack rush back to the bunker to find Dean alone, and falling apart at the seams.
Notes: John Winchester would have been homophobic and no one can change my mind.
Tag to “Despair” (15x18) by Alvinola on AO3. (793 words).
Tags: Hurt/Comfort, Emotional Hurt/Comfort.
My Rating: 3 stars.
Description: Sam has to pick up the pieces when Cas is gone.
Notes: Seriously, these fics are making me cry all over again. I mean, what can Sam possibly say to make any of this better? That’s heartbreaking in itself.
And a shameless self-promotion:
‘I love you’ by LinaRai on AO3. (420 words).
Tags: Angst, Episode: s15e18 Despair, Spoilers, Canonical Character Death, I’m Sorry.
Description: "I love you." Dean just stares at him.
Notes: I wrote this in a Criminology lesson while eating a bag of crisps which basically equated to my lunch because I was a mess and I had to. And yes, I am fully aware that I write things with major character death too often. So sue me.
So, how is everyone feeling? I’ve started re-reading Angel’s Wild in a wild (get it) attempt to cope. Also, this led to me having a full conversation with one of my teachers about Sherlock. ‘Maybe next time don’t use a current show as an example of queerbaiting,’ she said, as if any of us expected Destiel to go canon. Seriously, how do you explain to a 40 year old woman who only just realised that BBC Sherlock might possibly be queerbaiting how much no one expected that to happen?

hi  i  love  dean  winchester  so  stinkin’  much   ...   i  am  ....  so  excited .    he  deserves  a  life  where  he  wasn’t  hunting  monsters  all  the  time !    one  where  he  got  a  job   &   had  kids   &   is  just  living  life !    let  dean  have  a  life !
full name :     dean  henry  winchester . alises :   the  righteous  man .   the  sword  of  michael .   squirrel . age :   forty  one . gender & pronouns :   cis male ,  he / him . sexual & romantic orientation :    bisexual / biromantic . species :   human . identifying  marks :    multiple  scars  across  his  body .   some  looking  like  they  came  from  knives ,  others  from  guns .    his  memory  on  how  he  got  most  of  them  is  fuzzy
    ─        𝐂𝐀𝐍𝐎𝐍  𝐋𝐈𝐅𝐄 .
i  will  try  to  make  this  short .    dean  was  born  to  mary   &   john  winchester   &   for  four  years  he  had  the  most  simple  apple  pie  life  a  four  year  old  could  ask  for .    in  1983 ,  a  demon  went  into  the  winchester  house  to  visit  their  newborn  son :  dean’s  younger  brother  sam .    when  mary  interrupted  the  demon’s  visitation ,  he  killed  her .   slashed  open  her  stomach   &   burned  her  on  the  ceiling .    dean’s  father ,  john ,  witnessed  the  terrible  end  of  his  wife’s  life   &   though  he  made  it  out  alive  with  both  sam   &   dean ,  the  event  would  irreversibly  change  him .
john  became  obsessed  with  discovering  what  it  was  that  killed  mary .   he  learned  to  hunt  the  supernatural   &  ruthlessly  trained  his  sons  to  do  the  same .    dean’s  toddler  life  of  toys  turned  into  tinkering  with  guns ,  his  warm  bed  into  dirty  motels ,   &   his  carefree  existence  into  only  worrying  over  his  younger  brother .    he  became  the  perfect  killer  but  it  took  a  toll  on  him .    his  father ,  far  from  perfect  even  before  this ,  became  harsh  on  dean .   molding  him  until  he  was  more  dutiful  soldier  than  he  was  boy .   dean  did  everything  his  father  asked  &  followed  his  every  order  with  blind  faith   &   even  then  he  would  never  be  the  perfect  son  to  john .    sam ,  on  the  other  hand ,  rebelled  against  the  life  john  gave  them .   though  dean  tried  constantly  to  settle  their  explosive  arguments  as  best  he  could  no  matter  his  thoughts  on  the  matter  at  hand ,  desperate  for  peace  between  the  two ,  he  still  couldn’t  stop  sam  from  running  away  in  the  end .    he  wanted  to  hate  sam  for  it  at  first ,  but  he  never  could .
years  later  when  john  went  missing  on  a  hunt ,  dean  reached  out  to  his  estranged  brother  for  help .   the  job  was  supposed  to  be  a  simple  one  but  after  coming  back  unsuccessful  to  the  tragic  death  of  sam’s  girlfriend  ( same  as  their  mothers ,  in  fact )   sam  entered  back  into  his  life  for  good .
though  the  plots  of  both  heaven   &   hell ,  sam  &  dean  became  pawns  in  the  story  of  the  world’s  end .    the  apocalypse  slowly  set  into  motion  &  started  with  the  winchesters  at  the  center  of  it  all .    even  though  they  managed  stop  the  world’s  end ,  though ,  it  was  hardly  the  last  threat  to  humanity .    as  years  passed ,  the  brothers  found  themselves  thrust  into  apocalypse  after  apocalypse .     an  endless  cycle  that  they ,  eventually ,  discovered  was  god’s  doing  all  along .   they  were  simply  the  main  characters  of  a  never  ending  tragic  story  that  god  was  writing .    furious ,  the  two  brothers ,  with  help  from  their  rebel  angel  best  friend  &  the  half  angel  son  on  lucifer  himself ,  devised  a  way  to  defeat  god  for  good .    in  the  end  they  succeeded .   jack ,  the  mentioned  son  of  lucifer ,  took  god’s  place  after  his  defeat .    the  world  is  their’s  in  the  end .   they ,  for  the  first  time ,  get  to  choose  their  own  paths .
   ─        𝐀𝐋𝐔𝐂𝐀𝐑𝐃  𝐋𝐈𝐅𝐄 .
there  was  still  a  fire  at  the  winchester  house  when  dean  was  four  years  old .    an  accident  this  time .    an  electrical  fire .     a  normal  tragedy .     their  mom  was  still  lost  but  dean ,  holding  onto  the  bundle  that  was  his  little  brother ,  watched  as  the  fire  fighters  pulled  his  dad  from  the  flames .     sitting  with  them ,  brother  in  his  arms ,  while  they  consoled  him   &    let  him  wear  their  helmets  would  always  be  a  far  more  comforting  memory  to  dean  than  the  ones  his  father  gave  him  in  the  years  to  come .    john  winchester  became  distant .   negligent .    borderline  abusive .    dean  did  his  best  to  take  the  bulk  of  what  their  grief  drowned  father  put  on  them ,  trying  to  shield  sam ,   &  gave  a  lot  of  his  life  to  helping  raise  sam  where  john  fell  short .   they  moved  around  a  lot ,  finally  settling  in  alucard  when  dean  was  around  seventeen .
when  he  was  a  late   teen  if  he  wasn’t  at  home  or  sneaking  out  for  a  smoke   &   some  girls ,   dean  worked  at  being  a  volunteer  firefighter .    it  was  something ,  he  thought ,  slightly  productive  to  do  with  his  life  as  it  was  already  obvious  to  him  that  he  wouldn’t  be  able  to  go  to  college  with  sam  still  needing  him  around .   at  age  eighteen ,  with  his  high  school  diploma  stating  he  graduated  with  average  grades ,  dean  officially  joined  the  fire  force  at  an  entry  level   &   began  saving  up  money  for  his  own  place .    a  place  away  from  his  father  but  close  enough  that  sam  could  use  it  to  get  away  at  any  time  as  well .   though ,  as  the  year  went  on ,  he  found  that  john  would  have  been  unlikely  to  allow  dean  to  live  under  his  roof  anyway .
dean  was  notorious  with  women   &   thought  himself  as  careful  but  clearly  not  as  careful  as  he  thought .    when  he  found  out  he  was  going  to  be  a  dad  at  eighteen  he  initially  rejected  the  idea ,  wanting  nothing  to  do  with  the  child  out  of  fear  of  turning  into  his  father .    sam  was  the  one  who  talked  him  down  from  the  anxiety .   with  his  encouragement ,  dean  slowly  worked  to  learn  how  to  be  a  parent .   preparing  a  room .    reading  parenting  books .   anything .    it  came  as  a  shock  a  month  before  the  due  date  to  when  he  found  out  the  mother  was  backing  out  of  keeping  the  child .    she  had  been  the  one  initially  for  raising  it  at  first  but  suddenly  felt  she  couldn’t  do  it .    though  he’d  be  on  his  own ,  dean  had  steeled  himself  to  becoming  a  father  too  much  to  let  the  girl  to  go  up  for  adoption .    beverly  winchester  was  born  feburary  13th   &   dean  took  full  custody  as  her  sole  guardian .    he  kept  in  touch  with  bevery’s  mother  still ,  who  went  on  to  study  psychology  outside  alucard .
being  a  single  father  was  far  from  easy  but  dean  managed ,  always  taking  help  where  he  could  from  his  brother  or  from  friends .    one  friend  even  got  closer  than  others .    when  beverly  was  nearing  three  years  old ,  dean  started  seeing  a  foreign  exchange  student  from  england  who  was  taking  classes  at  the  local  university   &  the  casual  feeling  of  the  affair  wasn’t  there  for  long .    things  blossomed  into  something  serious   &   when  it  was  discovered  she  was  pregnant ,  this  time  dean  was  far  more  sure  about  things  than  when  he  was  twenty .     the  wedding  was  small    &   around  nine  months  later  dean  became  a  father  of  two  as  simon  joined  the  winchester  family .
for  a  few  years  this  seemed  the  perfect  arrangement .    dean  worked  up  through  the  ranks  at  the  station ,  setting  himself  up  to  be  the  new  fire  chief  one  day ,   &   raised  his  kids  happily  with  his  wife .    but  perfect  sometimes  doesn’t  last  long .    their  relationship ,  after  all ,  had  been  a  rushed  one .    after  around  six  years ,  things  simply  didn’t  have  the  same  spark  as  they  used  to .     the  divorce  wasn’t  nasty ,  they  knew  it  was  a  mutual  thing ,  but  it  still  stung .     he  left  the  court  as  a  single  father  again ,  now  with  joint  custody  of  his  son .    he  didn’t  seen  simon  much  after  the  divorce .   shortly  after ,  he  &  his  mother  moved  back  to  england  which  dean  was  always  bitter  about .    though  simon  came  to  visit  sometimes   &   dean  called  whenever  he  could ,  he  always  felt  like  he  was  far  from  the  boy .
at  fourty  one ,  years  later ,  he’s  gotten  well  back  on  his  feet .    no  serious  relationships  seem  to  stick  but  at  work  he’s  finally  gotten  fire  chief .    he  misses  being  in  the  middle  of  the  action  sometimes ,  but  he  loves  his  job  nonetheless .     if  not  at  work  he’s  visiting  his  brother ,  the  bar ,  fixing  his  car ,  or  dedicating  time  to  beverly   &   simon  who  has  recently  moved  to  alucard  to  be  around  dean ,  much  to  his  delight .    as  his  life  is  coming  back  to  him ,  though ,  it  is  stressing  him  out .   the  world  was  already  dangerous  without  remembering  monsters .    he  feels  as  though  this  is  just  another  story  he’s  now  lived  out   &   isn’t  even  sure  whats  real .
  ─        𝐎𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑  𝐈𝐍𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐌𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 .
father  to  BEVERLY  MARSH  &  SIMON  SNOW  in  alucard .    he  will  absolutely  go  off  on  you  if  you  are  mean  to  his  kids .    yes ,  this  includes  other  kids  who  bully  his  kids .   he  doesn’t  care  he’ll  yell  at  you  for  being  an  asshole  no  matter  your  age .   absolutely  no  one  messes  with  his  kids .
has  had  beverly  around  since  she  was  born  but  has  seen  simon  infrequently  since  he  was  about  six  since  simon’s  mother  took  him  back  to  england  with  her .    he  doesn’t  love  simon  any  less ,  but  he ‘s  struggling  with  fact  they  don’t  know  each  other  as  well  as  dean  would  like .    he  hates  that  his  son  grew  up  so  far  away  from  him  with  visits   &   phone  calls  too  few   &   far  in  between .
is  also  now  having  to  cope  with  the  fact  that ,  in  this  new  life  he  remembers ,  he  doesn’t  even  HAVE  his  kids .    closest  thing  he  has  to  a  child  there  is  jack   &   he  doesn’t  even  know  if  jack  is  okay .
still  has  the  impala  here .    can’t  have  dean  without  his  car .
while  he  is  the  fire  chief ,  fixing  cars  is  a  huge  hobby  of  his .    if  he  didn’t  love  his  job ,  he  would  absolutely  leave  it  to  work  as  a  mechanic  at  the  local  garage .
while  he  mostly  works  on  his  car  himself ,  he  still  brings  his  car  to  the  garage  a  few  times  a  year  for  things  that  his  own  garage  doesn’t  have  the  tools  for .   they  know  him  there  from  his  recognizable  car .
his  father  has  been  alive  for  sometime  but  he’s  recently  found  out  he  died  from  a  stroke  in  his  sleep .   dean  is  stuck  between  the  duty  of  giving  his  father  a  proper  funeral   &  his  own  bitterness  at  the  man  for  how  he  treated  him   &  sam .     this  is  only  worsened  by  the  memories  of  john  that  will  come  back .
he  is  bisexual !   because  i’ve  watched  this  show   &   have  eyes !    i  know !    is  he  repressed   a  lot   &  hasn’t  exactly  had  an  offical  coming  out ?   also  yes !    doesn’t  mean  he  HASN’T made  out   &   gotten  with  a  guy  or  two  in  the  past .   just  means  he  never  felt  like  he  could  say  anything  about  it  all  growing  up   &   now  just  figures  it’s  too  late .
uuuuuuuuuuuuh   anyway .    i’ll  add  to  this  more  if  i  think  of  more .

Summary: Jared, Jensen, and Y/N give an exclusive interview, breaking the news of their relationship and pregnancy to the public. Baby is born and they celebrate Christmas.
Pairing: J2 x Reader
Word Count: 1916
Beta’d by: no beta, all mistakes are my own. Images found on google and pinterest.
A/N: This has a few time jumps in it to fit it in for the Holidays! This is the last installment of To New Beginnings, which originally started as most definitely not a request from @supernatural-jackles, who told me she would love to see me write a J2 x Reader. It has exceeded my expectations and I hope yours too!
As a reminder, this is a work of fiction and should be regarded as such. No harm is intended toward the actor(s) or their families.

The days following the wrap party were filled with nerves for Jared, Jensen, and Y/N. After deciding to invite Samantha Highfill and Entertainment Weekly into their home, giving them an exclusive about their relationship and the baby, they were all excited, but definitely nervous. One month felt like a long time, but before they knew it, there was a camera crew set up in their living room.
“How do you feel now, having said goodbye to Dean and Sam Winchester, and Y/C/N?” Sam started off easy.
“We’ve had this question at conventions before and even now, the answer is the same,” Jensen began. “It’s not goodbye. Sam and Dean have been a part of us for the last fifteen years. I know Dean as well as I know myself and he’ll always be here.” He patted his chest.
“Jensen’s right. I was Y/C/N for only five years, but she’ll always be a part of me. We put so much of ourselves into our characters, that they’ll never truly be gone,” Y/N added.
Jared cleared his throat, clearly already a little emotional. “Never. As long as we, and the Supernatural family, are around, they’ll always be here.”
The easy questions continued for about thirty minutes, not that the next question Sam asked was difficult, but they all knew it was coming and this was the one they had prepared for all week.
“So what projects are on the horizon for you guys? Jensen, what do you have lined up?” Sam looked to Jensen first.
“It’s odd, you know? For the first time in twenty-three years, I am officially unemployed. I decided to take some time off, indefinitely. We’ll still be doing conventions here and there, and there’s the charity work, but I haven’t signed on for anything, filming wise,” Jensen informed her.
“Nothing caught your eye, yet?” Sam assumed.
“No, it’s nothing like that. We’ve all had some very interesting scripts sent to us, but for the time being, we’re concentrating on ourselves, our family, for the first time in a long time,” Jared added.
“What about you, Y/N? You taking time off, too?” Samantha inquired, hoping at least one of them had some interesting news to share. “Tell me you’ve got some top secret role up your sleeve for us.”
“There’s literally nothing up my sleeve, as you can see” Y/N laughed lifting her arms in her flowing tank, growing a little more nervous now that the attention was solely on her. “But I am taking on a new role before the end of the year.”
“That’s great! Care to share some juicy details about your new role?” Sam exclaimed.
“Well, I can tell you I am incredibly excited and terrified at the same time. It’s going to be a long term role, but I have the two best partners a girl could ask for going into it. It will be my most extensive and hopefully my most prominent role ever,” Y/N rattled.
“Sounds exhilarating! Is the role filled with some badassery in true Y/C/N fashion?” Sam winked at her.
“She will definitely be the badassest in this new role,” Jared laughed.
“Dude, that is not a word,” Jensen sighed. “I think what Jared is not so eloquently trying to say is that while the role is still being developed, Y/N here will be amazing and more than perfect for it.”
“Thank you both. I know we’ve got you more than a little perplexed, Sam. It’s motherhood. I’m pregnant,” Y/N finally blurted it out. They hadn’t told many people, only their immediate family and close friends. It felt real telling someone they barely knew and only in a professional capacity.
“What? Wow! Congratulations, Y/N! Who is the lucky man?”
“Well, that’s another story altogether,” Y/N said quietly. Jared and Jensen immediately picked up on her increased nervousness. Each of them picked up one of her hands in theirs and held tight.
“We are,” Jared and Jensen said at the same time.
The look on the journalists face told them she definitely was not expecting their answer and it took a moment for her to pull her thoughts together. “The three of you are...together then?”
“Polyamorus relationships remain taboo in this day and age, but throughout history they were quite common. No one person can give you everything you need. There are so many facets to a relationship and being someone’s everything is a hell of a lot of pressure, when you think about it. I personally feel that’s why more than half of marriages end in divorce. We’ve been together for about eighteen months now and every day keeps getting better,” Jared explained. “And the new roles we’ve embarked on are going to be our most extraordinary.”
“I’m thrilled to be a father. Scared as hell, but I know it will be worth every sleepless night,” Jensen interjected.
“Do you know which one of you is the father?” Samantha asked.
“We don’t know and we’re not going to find out,” Y/N began. “To us, it doesn’t matter. This baby will be loved beyond belief.”
“Our DNA? Mine or Jared’s, won’t dictate how much love we already have for this baby. We’re halfway to meeting our little bundle of joy and none of us can wait to truly begin this new chapter of our lives,” Jensen elaborated.
“It’s all about nurture for this baby. Nature will have nothing to do with it,” Jared added.
The interview continued for a few more minutes and as soon as the door closed, Y/N collapsed into a heap on the sofa. “I’m exhausted!”
“That was intense, but you were great, darlin’,” Jensen sat beside her, pulling her feet into his lap and rubbing them gently.
“I know we said we were ready, but now, I’m even more nervous,” Y/N admitted. “What if people hate us? They’re going to think we’re crazy!”
“Hey, hey now. We talked about this. Those that matter don’t care and those that care don’t matter, right? All that matters is how we feel and what we know to be the truth,” Jared reminded her, taking a seat as well, placing her head in his lap. “There will be haters no matter what, but there will also be a fuck ton of people that are really happy for us.”
“I know and you’re right. Thank you. I’m going to take a nap, but we’re still going shopping for the nursery, right?” Y/N looked up at both her men and they nodded in agreement. Jensen covered her with a light blanket, both of them kissing her softly before letting her rest. They decided to finish cleaning out one of the spare rooms that they planned on for the nursery. The next four months would go by in the blink of an eye.
~*~
“I hate you both!” Y/N screamed at the top of her lungs as another contraction seized her body and she pushed once again. Y/N had been admitted to the hospital four hours earlier after her water broke.
“Darlin’, you’re doing such a good job. We’re so proud of you. Just a few more pushes and you’ll be done and we’ll have our baby in our arms, okay?” Jensen encouraged from his spot on her right. One hand under her knee, the other in a death grip in hers.
“You’re so strong, baby. We love you so much,” Jared cooed, pressing a gentle kiss to her sweat soaked hairline. Her body relaxed slightly as the contraction eased, but he knew they weren’t done yet.
“I love you. I’m sorry I yelled,” Y/N cried. Her body was sore and exhausted from the labor. She didn’t think she could go on and then another contraction hit.
“Okay, Y/N, one more and the baby’s head should be out. Push hard for me,” the doctor instructed. “Dads, help her out, we’re almost there.”
Tears feel freely from her eyes as she bore down, Jared and Jensen each pushing her legs up and her back forward as she pushed. Screams tore through the room. Jared and Jensen caught each others eyes, both wet with their own tears, because they knew there was absolutely nothing they could do to make it easier on her.
“Okay, the head is out! One more hard push, Mama, and your baby will be here,” the doctor informed them. A moment later, a cry sounded and it gave Y/N the strength to keep going.
Y/N gave it her all and she felt the pressure ease. “It’s a boy!”
Born one week early on Halloween of all days, Jack Winchester Padalecki-Ackles weighed in at a very healthy eight pounds, three ounces and twenty-one inches long. Wrapped in a soft blanket, he slept peacefully in his mother’s arms, a bright orange pumpkin cap on his head.
~*~
The room was lit only by the lights of the Christmas tree and the moon shining through the large glass windows overlooking the mountains of Vancouver. Y/N sat nestled comfortably on the sofa, nursing Jack before bed. Christmas had been a busy time for the new family with all three sets of parents visiting to spend time with them.
Jensen carried a tray of hot chocolate and set it down on the table in front of her. As she shifted Jack over her shoulder to burp him, Jared swooped him up, Jensen handing her a steaming mug. “Take a break, darlin’.”
An enormous belch escaped their baby and the three of them giggled softly.
“Our first Christmas as a family is in the books,” Jared said quietly, Jack dozing in his father’s arms.
“And a great Christmas it was,” Jensen added, taking a sip of his cocoa.
“Mhmm,” Y/N agreed, yawning contentedly, a small smile tugging at her lips. “But it’s not over yet. Jen, would you check Jack’s stocking one more time, please?”
“What did you do now, Y/N?” he chuckled, getting up and moving to the mantle. He pulled a small package from inside the hand knitted stocking and returned to the sofa.
“Well, open it!” Y/N insisted, the smile on her face growing with each passing second.
Jensen tore the paper open and revealed a small flat box. Ripping the tape from the sides, he lifted the top and his eyes went wide as saucers. Jensen looked up from the gift, meeting her gaze first, then Jared’s. “Are you serious?”
She nodded excitedly. “I know we didn’t exactly talk about it, but we also didn’t do anything to prevent it. By next Christmas, we’ll have another baby. Merry Christmas, Jen. And you too, Jared.” She leaned over kissing them both, before placing a soft kiss to the top of Jack’s head, his fine hair tickling her lips.
Jared took the box from Jensen and looked at the small shirt inside. “Big brother.”
“I’m loving this new adventure,” Jensen declared, wrapping his arm around Y/N tightly and kissing her lips.
Jared reached over, taking her hand in his. “This really is the best adventure ever and there isn’t anyone I’d rather share it with than the two of you and our little ones.”

Julia's nose practically touched the pages of her bible as she bent over it, reading a passage from First Corinthians. She only picked at the fries on her plate as she silently read her mother's favorite verse over and over. The page was almost worn, as it had been for years, and the verse was highlighted in blue so it stuck out. She had it memorized—it was only four words, after all—but something about seeing the words on the page calmed her down.
Do everything in love.
It was such a simple verse but her mom recited every day—sometimes more than a few times a day, depending on the situation. Naomi loved helping people until the day she died, running the philanthropy department of Petersen Sports Co. until she could no longer keep up. She was as saint like as you could get without actually being a saint but she never preached needlessly at you and she didn't push her beliefs on anyone.
She was Naomi...and Julia missed her so much.
November thirtieth was always hard on Julia, no matter what. Usually she barricaded herself in her room and watched her mom's favorite movie—which, ironically, was Dirty Dancing—and ate chocolate chip cookies but she didn't have the time or proper setting to do that. She was on the road with the Winchester brothers so that was doing a little bit to help her feel better.
Sam sat at her left and watched her carefully, looking at the melancholy expression on her face. "Did you call Beth yet?"
"She called me," she informed him, smiling softly at the thought of her oldest sister. "and she let me talk to Lizzie. She's such a talker these days."
Sam chuckled. "Well, she is Beth's kid."
"Yeah, that's true," Julia agreed; Dean may have thought that she talked too much but she didn't compare to Bethany. Her oldest sister's voice was probably the most recognizable sound to her because of her endless talking. "I called Abby."
"What's she up to?"
"A hunt down in Texas. She said something about a spirit. Levi's in meetings all day but we're gonna talk tonight."
"And your dad?"
Julia sighed heavily, looking down at her bible as her eyes started to sting. "Haven't heard from him."
Sam frowned in sympathy, watching as she practically curled into herself. She went back to reading her bible, her index finger trailing softly over the highlighted verse.
It was then that Dean walked over to them, a pile of newspapers in his hands so he could start looking for their next case. He sat in the stool on Julia's right side and stole a fry from her plate.
"You okay, shortcake?"
"Dean..." Sam gave him a warning look.
Sam knew how depressed Julia got on the last day of November. She didn't need his brother bothering her when the loss of her mom was still so fresh. Still, if anyone could understand her pain, it would be Dean. He was old enough to remember their mother and her death, so they had kindred experiences.
Dean immediately understood the look Sam gave him. He grimaced and softly patted Julia on the shoulder and Sam swore he saw his thumb rub soothing circles into the fabric of her shirt but he could just be imaging things. Either way, that was the closest he had seen Dean comfort a girl in his life.
Julia gave him a soft smile and pushed her plate of fries toward him. Sam watched in slight awe as Dean accepted the fries with a large smile; Julia never shared her fries with anyone. Sam couldn't count the amount of times his hand had been slapped away from her plate because he was trying to steal one—they were her ultimate favorite food.
Dean went to work on looking through the obituaries in the newspapers he collected, circling deaths that seemed suspicious. Sam pulled out his phone and started checking his emails, helplessly hoping that maybe his dad would have sent him one. Julia turned to Revelations and started studying for her New Testament final that she would be taking online.
"Can I get you anything else?" a pretty blonde waitress walked over to them, dropping a flirty smile at Dean.
Dean looked up, pen resting against his lips, and grinned.
Sam cleared his throat. "Just the check, please."
"Okay," the waitress sent Sam a smile and then turned to walk to the register on the other side of the bar.
Dean groaned in displeasure and glared at Sam over Julia's head. "You know, Sam, we are allowed to have fun once in a while," he gestured toward the waitress, who was dressed for tips. "That is fun."
Sam gave Dean an unimpressed look, making the older brother sigh.
"Here, take a look at this," he slid the newspaper he was looking down the bar to him. "I think I got one. Lake Manitoc, Wisconsin. Last week, Sophie Carlton, eighteen, walks into the lake, doesn't walk out. Authorities dragged the water, nothing."
"Sophie Carlton is the third Lake Manitoc drowning this year," Dean continued. "None of the bodies were found, either."
Julia frowned and pulled the paper over to her, quickly reading through the obituary. "She was the swim team captain at her school?"
"Yep," Dean confirmed. "None of the other bodies were found, either. They had a funeral two days ago."
Sam looked over at him, his eyebrows raised. "A funeral?"
"Yeah, it's weird, they buried an empty coffin," Dean shrugged. "For, uh, closure of whatever."
Julia was all for whatever helped people cope with their grief but she didn't really understand why the family just didn't have a memorial for the poor girl. Then again, it certainly wasn't her business.
"Closure," Sam scoffed sourly. "What closure? People don't just disappear, Dean. Other people just stop looking for them."
Dean turned in his stool to face Sam, sensing his displeasure. Truthfully, he'd picked on up the fact that Sam was irritated they weren't actively trying to find Dad for a few days now. "Something you want to say to me?"
Dean was an upfront guy; he didn't like passive aggressive bullshit.
Sam inhaled deeply. "The trail for Dad—it's getting colder every day."
"Exactly," Dean pointed out. "So, what are we supposed to do?"
"I don't know. Something. Anything."
"You know what, I'm sick of your attitude," Dean's eyes narrowed in irritation as his voice lowered in anger. "You don't think I wanna find Dad as much as you do?"
"Yeah, I know you do, it's just—"
"I'm the one who's been with him every day for the past four years while you've been off to college going to pep rallies," Dean cut Sam off coldly. "We will find Dad but until then, we're gonna kill everything bad between here and there, okay?"
Sam rolled his eyes heavily, making Dean bristle. Sensing that their argument was going to stumble out of control—like they sometimes did with brothers who both had the famous Winchester temper—Julia spoke up.
"Please stop, all right?" she looked between them, her eyes wide and sad; Dean and Sam almost immediately melted—her puppy-eyed look was almost lethal compared to Sam's. "Please."
"All right," Sam sighed, giving in. "Lake Manitoc. How far?"
Dean grinned at him and grabbed the check when the waitress delivered it, a phone number at the bottom.
-
They reached Lake Manitoc within a couple of hours, having already been in Minnesota for a small spirit case that had Julia torching her first corpse. They decided to head to the victim's family first before they went to the police station to question the sheriff about the recent drownings and missing bodies.
The Carlton residence was a basic cabin, right on Lake Manitoc. It was a cute little home with dark green shutters that made Julia smile sadly. The house looked well loved and she felt horrible that the family was going through this kind of grief.
Grief from a family member dying was one thing. When that person died of something that couldn't easily be explained? That was worse—much, much worse.
Dean knocked on the front door of the cabin; a man around his age opened the door, giving them a questioning look.
"Will Carlton?" Dean asked him; the man nodded. "I'm Agent Ford, this is Agent Hamill and junior Agent Fisher. We're with the US Wildlife Service."
Behind his back, Julia gave him an unimpressed look. Did he think he was being slick using the most notable stars of the popular Star Wars franchise? And he had to quit with this junior agent and intern stuff—she wasn't that much younger than him and Sam and she wasn't a kid by any means.
"More questions?" Will sighed.
Julia gave him a sad smile. "Sorry, but it's for our investigation."
Will nodded and walked out onto the porch. He led them closer to the lake, his eyes on the closest dock. There was an older man sitting on it, looking out at the lake with depressed eyes.
"First off, we'd like to give you our condolences," Sam said softly as came to a stop. "We've heard great things about Sophie."
Will gave him a half-hearted smile that spoke volumes with just how sad he was. Julia's heart ached with sympathy.
Sam and Dean started asking him questions, hoping to get a better insight on the circumstances surrounding Sophie's death. They were careful not to offend the man while also trying to get as much information as they could.
"She was about a hundred yards out," Will nodded at the lake, answering Sam's question about where he last saw Sophie. "That's where she was dragged down."
"And you're sure she didn't just drown?" Dean prodded.
"Yeah," Will scoffed and smiled fondly. "She was a varsity swimmer. She practically grew up in that lake. She was as safe out there as she was in her own bathtub."
"So, no splashing? No signs of distress?"
"No, that's what I'm telling you."
"Did you see any shadows in the water?" Sam followed up. "Maybe some dark shape breach the surface?"
"No," Will shook his head. "Again, she was really far out there."
"You ever see any strange tracks by the shoreline?" Dean spoke up.
"No, never. Why?" Will stiffened, looking paranoid. "Why, what do you think is out there?"
"We'll let you know as soon as we do," Julia assured him kindly. "Thanks for your time, Mr. Carlton."
"What about your father?" Sam asked Will as Julia and Dean started back toward the Impala; they paused to listen to Will's answer. "Can we talk to him?"
Will looked over to the dock; his dad was in the same position, looking down at the dark water below him. "Look, if you don't mind, I mean," he said hesitantly. "he didn't see anything and he's kind of been through a lot."
Sam nodded and gave him a small smile. "We understand. Thanks again."
Julia, Dean, and Sam got into the Impala and drove off. As they headed to the police station to ask the sheriff for more details about the case, it was almost too quiet. It unnerved Julia because usually Dean had some of his music playing and although she wasn't the biggest fan of mullet rock—as Sam put it—she preferred it to silence.
"Why isn't there any snow?" she spoke up, looking out her window. "Shouldn't there be snow?"
She had lived in Chicago all of her life up until she left for college in California and there was usually some snow that fell around this time of year. And Chicago was much more south than Lake Manitoc. Bethany had told her just that morning that they had a few inches of snow already at home.
"Global warming's a bitch," Dean answered.
Julia laughed lightly in agreement before picking up the local newspaper she bought when they got to town. She had been interested in the front headline, which was giving the town's residence more details about the nearby dam that was falling apart. When they arrived at the police station, she had read the whole article and discovered that the government had decided not fund any repairs.
"Now, I'm sorry, but why does the Wildlife Service care about an accidental drowning?" the sheriff, who introduced himself as Jake, asked them as he led them to his office.
"You sure it's accidental?" Sam raised his eyebrows at him. "Will Carlton saw something grab his sister."
"Like what? Here, sit please," Jake gestured to the two chairs in front of his desk; Dean let Julia and Sam sit in them. "There are no indigenous carnivores in that lake. There's nothing even big enough to pull down a person unless it was the Loch Ness Monster."
"Yeah," Dean chuckled awkwardly. "Right."
"Will Carlton was traumatized and sometimes the mind plays tricks," Jake went on as he sat in his own seat. "Sill, we dragged that lake. We even ran a sonar sweep, just to be sure, and there was nothing down there."
"That's weird, though," Dean commented. "I mean, that's the third missing body this year."
"I know," Jake agreed sadly and a little defensively. "These are my people from my town. These are people I care about."
"I know."
"Anyway," Jake sighed and leaned back in his chair. "All this won't be a problem much longer."
Dean gave him a curious look. "What do you mean?"
"Well, the dam, of course."
"It's falling apart," Julia spoke up, knowing that their aliases probably should have known about something that would so drastically affect the town's wildlife; Sam and Dean gave her questioning looks while Jake nodded solemnly.
"And the Feds won't give us the grant to repair it, so they've opened the spillway," Jake added; Dean and Sam were impressed with Julia's sudden knowledge of the town that saved their asses. "In another six months, there won't be much of a lake. There won't be much of a town, either."
Dean gave the sheriff a weak smile and went to speak but wasn't able to. An attractive woman around his age had knocked on the door, getting the man's attention.
"Sorry, am I interrupting?" the woman asked sheepishly. "I can come back later."
Jake stood up; Julia and Sam followed his lead. "This is my daughter."
Dean grinned at her. "Pleasure to meet you," he shook her hand. "I'm Dean."
"Andrea Barr," the woman introduced herself. "Hi."
"Hi."
"They're from the Wildlife Service," Jake informed Andrea pointedly. "About the lake."
Andrea's face visibly fell. "Oh."
A little boy with a bored and depressed expression on his face walked into the room after her. Julia gave him a small smile; she loved kids and had always wanted to be a mother but, unfortunately, that wasn't in the cards for her.
"Oh, hey there," Dean spotted the boy too. "What's your name?"
The boy seemed very shy; he hurried away from them to go sit at a table outside of the office. Andrea gave them an apologetic look and followed after him, taking out crayons and some paper to give him.
"His name is Lucas," Jake informed them, watching his grandson with a sad smile.
Julia perked up at the name. She felt like it was a sign from her guardian angel that she happened to be working a case on the anniversary of her mom's death that involved a boy with her father's name. He hadn't contacted her at all today, so she felt like the angels were assuring her that she'd be okay.
"Is he okay?" Sam asked, watching the little boy take the crayons from his mother and start to draw on the construction paper in front of him.
"My grandson's been through a lot. We all have," Jake sighed as he walked toward his office door. "Well, if there's anything else I can do for you, please let me know."
"Thank you for your help," Julia smiled at the sheriff gratefully as they left his office.
"You know," Dean turned back to Jake and Andrea halfway out of the station, though he was speaking mostly to Andrea. "now that you mentioned it, could you point us in the direction of a reasonably priced motel?"
"Lakefront Motel," Andrea informed him. "Go around the corner. It's about two blocks up."
"Two—" Dean scratched his head, acting confused. "Would you mind showing us?"
Andrea chuckled, amused. "You want me to walk you two blocks?"
Dean smiled sheepishly. "Not if it's any trouble."
"I'm headed that way anyway," Andrea turned to her dad. "I'll be back to pick up Lucas at three," she kissed her son's head and promised, "We'll go to the park, okay, sweetie?"
"Thanks again," Sam told Jake before he and Julia followed Dean and Andrea out of the station.
As they walked through the bustling town square, Julia squinted around. It was pretty much December and it wasn't cold and there was no sign of winter weather. Andrea was wearing a t-shirt and skirt for crying out loud and no one that they passed was wearing any sort of coat. The only sign that it had been fall was the bare trees and dead leaves blowing around in the slight breeze.
"So," Dean cleared his throat to get Andrea's attention. "cute kid."
"Thanks," Andrea smiled before leading them across a street.
"Kids are the best, huh?" he laughed.
Andrea gave him a clearly amused look but didn't answer as they walked closer to the motel. They stopped on the sidewalk in front of the building and Andrea turned to Dean with a smirk.
"There it is," she gestured to the motel. "Like I said, two blocks."
Julia laughed lightly, amused at the woman's spunk. She liked that she wasn't falling at Dean's feet like most women would. She was smart and knew that he was trying to get on her good side. "Thanks."
Andrea grinned at her before looking back at Dean. "Must be hard with your sense of direction," she commented, her tone sarcastic. "never being able to find your way to a decent pickup line."
Julia gaped at her, a laugh escaping her throat before she could stop it. Andrea left with a satisfied smirk on her face, calling back to them, "Enjoy your stay!"
Dean was at a loss for words but he did manage to send Julia an annoyed look. Julia controlled her laughter but she was beaming at him, her cheeks red with mirth and her dimple out.
Sam grinned at Dean, just as amused as Julia. "Kids are the best?" he repeated Dean's earlier line. "You don't even like kids."
"I love kids!" Dean defended himself.
"Name three children that you even know," Sam dared him.
"Lizzie," Dean said immediately, naming Julia's five-year-old niece.
"Okay, that's one," Julia commented. "How about two more?"
Dean pressed his lips together and pulled his hands out of his pockets to count on his fingers. He took too long to say another name, since he didn't know any other children, and Sam got bored. He started toward the motel's front off with Julia on his trail.
"I'm thinking!" Dean called after them, scratching his head.
-
Since Julia was paying for this motel stay—she, Sam, and Dean agreed that she would pay for every-other motel they had to stop at—she splurged for an extra room like usual. When the Winchester were paying, she had to share the bed with Sam but she enjoyed a room to herself, especially since Sam was a giant and took up eighty-five percent of the bed. The only thing was that the rooms had to be connected; Dean was adamant about that, especially since she was in training and he was worried if something would happen.
Dean's concern was sweet but sometimes Julia liked her privacy. Especially since she spent all of her time with two grown men.
She laid on the bed in her room on her stomach, her feet swaying in the air above her as she typed the class discussion that was due that night for her Archaic Latin class. The connecting door to Sam and Dean's room was open and she could hear Sam typing away but other than that, it was pretty quiet other than her quiet humming that helped her concentrate on her work.
She looked up from her laptop as Dean entered her room.
"You saved our asses back there at the station, you know."
She gave him a confused look, having already forgotten what he was talking about. "What do you mean?"
"What you said about the dam," he reminded her. "If you hadn't of said something, I'm pretty sure our cover would have been blown."
"Oh," Julia smiled like she did whenever she received praise and looked back at her screen. "It was just luck. I saw an article about it on the newspaper I picked up at the gas station when we got to town."
"Well, either way," Dean shrugged. "You did good," he sat down at the end of the bed, just behind her computer. "Whatcha doing?"
"Class discussion," her eyes were back on him, unable to focus now.
"Class?"
Julia nodded at the confused look on his face. "It's the last week before finals."
"What class?"
"Classes," she elaborated, sharing her class schedule. "New Testament, Archaic Latin, Aramaic, Islam, and French."
Dean gave her an impressed look. "You're doing all of that online?"
"Mmhmm," she hummed. "I had an internship at Stanford so I was able to do my classes online."
"What about next semester?"
"Already registered and they're all online again," she assured him.
"And then you graduate?"
Julia nodded proudly; she had worked so hard on her education all her life, even skipping a few grades so they she could attend college with Sam. "Double major in religion and linguistics."
"That's great, I'm really proud of you, Julia," Dean said with an impressed smile; Julia beamed at him. "Don't tell Sam but I kinda wished I went to college, too."
Julia gave him a surprised look. She had never heard Dean say anything about his want for higher education, especially since he dropped out of high school. "Really?" she asked. "What would you major in?"
"Mechanical engineering, I think," Dean answered her. "I like making things and working with my hands."
"You're great at that," Julia agreed, knowing that he would had been great at his job if he had gone down that road. "Remember when you built that barbie house for me?"
Dean grinned at the memory, his cheeks slightly flushing. "That's not quite the same, Junior."
"I know that, I'm just saying," Julia rolled her eyes playfully. "You're a genius with that kind of stuff."
Dean smiled, secretly pleased with what she was saying. Sam was the smart brother and he had always been but Dean had some tricks up his sleeve, too. It was nice to have someone acknowledge that side of him. Over the years he had picked up skills and making things was one of his favorites. He had made an EMF device out of a Walkman once, which he was particularly proud of and still used.
"Guys!" Sam called from the other room, breaking Julia and Dean out of their little world. "Come here, I found more information."
Dean got up and walked back into his room, Julia rolling out of bed to follow him. Sam was at the table, his laptop in front of him. He had been on the thing for an hour or so, so she wasn't surprised to see that he had discovered something.
"So, there's the three drowning victims this year," Sam stated, bringing up the information he complied.
"Any before that?" Dean asked quickly.
"Yeah," Sam nodded. "Six more spread out over the past thirty-five years. Those bodies were never recovered, either. If there's something out there, it's picking up its pace."
"Maybe it's picking up the pace because the lake's being drained," Julia spoke up thoughtfully.
"Might be," Sam agreed.
"So, we got a lake monster on a binge, huh," Dean said dryly, going over to sit on his bed.
Sam shook his head in disagreement. "This whole lake monster theory bugs me," he declared. He explained when Julia gave him a questioning look, "Loch Ness, Lake Champlain, there are literally hundreds of eyewitness accounts. But here? Almost nothing."
"So, whatever's out there, no one's living to talk about it," Julia assumed.
Dean hummed in agreement and walked back over to the table, hovering over Sam to read over his shoulder. "Barr," he muttered, reading the latest drowning victim before Sophie Carlton. "Christopher Barr. Where have I heard that name before?"
"Christopher Barr, the victim in May," Sam took a closer look at the article, scrolling further down the page. There was a picture of Lucas in the middle of the writing, bundled up in a large towel with soaked hair. "Oh, Christopher Barr was Andrea's husband and Lucas' father. Apparently he took Lucas out swimming. Lucas was on a floating platform when Chris drowned; it was two hours before the kid got rescued."
Julia sighed sadly. "Poor little guy."
"Maybe we have an eyewitness after all," Sam scratched his head.
"No wonder that kid was so freaked out," Dean said quietly, getting Julia and Sam's attention. "Watching one of your parents die isn't something you just get over."
The knowing, faraway look in Dean's eyes made Julia's heart ache. Dean never talked about his mom or if he saw what actually happened to her. Julia assumed that he did, by his comment. It was hard for her to witness her mom die when she was a teenager and her mom died of something human. She couldn't imagine when Dean went through at four years old, watching his mom die because of a supernatural creature.
He was too young. No kid should have to go through something that traumatic.
-
Knowing that Andrea was picking up Lucas from her dad around three, Julia, Sam, and Dean headed to the park around the same time. They wanted to see if they could get anything out of Lucas without traumatizing him further and Dean had volunteered to talk to the kid while Sam and Julia spoke with his mom.
The three of them walked through the park, spotting Andrea sitting at a bench just outside of the play area. She was watching Lucas, who didn't seem like he wanted to join in on the rambunctious activities by the jungle gym. He was perfectly content to sit at a bench and color.
"Can we join you?" Julia asked Andrea as they approached the bench she was sitting on.
Andrea looked up, smiling slightly when she saw them there. "I'm here with my son."
"Oh, mind if I say hi?" Dean wondered, walking away toward Lucas before Andrea could agree to his request. Andrea didn't seem all that bothered by it, turning to Julia as she sat next to her.
"You should tell your friend that this whole Jerry Maguire thing is not gonna work on me," she said, amused, as they all watched Dean greet Lucas.
"I don't think that's what this is about," Sam spoke up, watching Dean thoughtfully.
"We heard about your husband," Julia said apologetically; Andrea frowned sadly. "Dean went through something similar as Lucas when he was a kid."
"Really?" Andrea looked relieved that he wasn't just talking to her son to get in her good graces.
Sam nodded. "Our mom," he explained. "I don't remember much but Dean—well, from what I heard, he didn't speak for a long while afterwards."
"I know the feeling," Andrea sighed sadly, glancing back at Lucas and Dean. "Lucas hasn't said a word, not even to me. Not since his dad's accident."
"I'm sorry," Julia grabbed her hand and squeezed comfortingly as Dean started walking back over. "What are the doctors saying?"
"That's it's some kind of post-traumatic stress."
"That can't be easy," Sam said sympathetically; Dean coming to stand next to him. "for either of you."
"We moved in with my dad," Andrea smiled slightly. "He helps out a lot. It's just...when I think about what Lucas went though, what he saw..."
"Kids are strong," Dean said when she trailed off. "You'd be surprised what they can deal with."
"You know, he used to have such life," Andrea smiled back at Lucas as he left his bench; Julia grinned, thinking of her niece who was as crazy as little girls get. "He was hard to keep up with, to tell you the truth. Now, he just sits there, drawing those pictures and playing with those army men. I just wish—" she abruptly changed the subject as Lucas came up to them. "Hey, sweetie."
Lucas' eyes were on the ground but he held out a picture he drew for Dean. The picture was of a cabin and it was pretty good for kid his age.
"Thanks," Dean looked at with a smile. "Thanks, Lucas."
Lucas just slouched off, going back to his bench to color.

The next morning, Dean and Julia were eating the breakfast he had picked up when Sam walked back into the room. He slammed the door shut behind him and took a seat next to Dean on his bed.
"So, I think it's safe to say we can rule out Nessie," he said dryly.
Dean gave him a confused look. "What do you mean?"
"I just drove past the Carlton house," Sam informed them. "There was an ambulance there. Will Carlton is dead."
Julia stiffened, horrified. "Did he drown?"
"Yep, in the sink."
"What the fuck?" Dean took the last bite of his breakfast sandwich. "So, you were right, this isn't a creature. We're dealing with something else."
"What could it be?" Julia wondered.
"I don't know," Dean shrugged. "Water wraith, maybe? Some kind of demon? I mean, something that controls water...water that comes from the same source."
"The lake," she stated; it seemed like her assumption the day before was correct. Whatever this thing was, it wanted to get its agenda done before the lake was completely drained.
"You were right, J," Sam commented. "It explains why it's upping the body count. It's running out of time."
"And if it can get through the pipes, it can get to anyone, almost anywhere," Dean added, standing up and crumpling his wrapper. "This is gonna happen again soon."
"And we do know one thing for sure," Sam sighed. "This has got something to do with Bill Carlton."
"It took both of his kids," Julia hummed.
"And I've been asking around," Sam added. "Lucas' dad, Chris? He was Bill Carlton's godson."
Dean sighed and pulled on his boots. "Well, let's go pay Mr. Carlton a visit."
-
Julia stayed in the car while Dean and Sam questioned Mr. Carlton, and talked to her brother, Levi, since they hadn't gotten to talk the day before. It was a nice conversation but a little awkward since they weren't the closest of siblings.
Levi and Abby were kind of loners growing up and now that Levi was an adult, he was quiet unless he was pitching meetings to the company or selling big item products. Still, Julia loved him and she was glad they got in touch. He was a little worried about her on the road and was more than a little skeptical about Dean and Sam training her as opposed to Abby or their dad but he liked the brothers so it didn't come from a bad place.
After Sam and Dean talked to Mr. Carlton—tried to talk, anyway, since the poor man didn't feel like talking—they discovered that the drawing Lucas gave Dean at the park was actually the cabin the Carltons lived. They went to Andrea's house next so Dean could talk to him and he was presented with another drawing, this time of a yellow two-story house near a church with a little stick-figure boy and a red bike.
"Andrea said the kid never drew like that till his dad died," Dean informed Julia and Sam as they rode around town, searching for the yellow house in the drawing.
Honestly, this case was hitting close to home for all of them—but mostly for Dean and Julia. For Dean, he could see himself in the little boy; his parent died and he stopped speaking out of grief. For Julia, besides the fact that Lucas shared her dad's name, it was he that knew things that other people wouldn't always know.
Julia knew how that felt; all her life she knew of things that would just randomly pop into her head and, of course, she had the bad feelings she got once in a while, like with Dean and Sam. It would scare her in the beginning, to see her family look at her in confusion—like how she stated the day before the news broke about President Clinton that he was going to be on trial—but she never thought of herself as a freak. To her knowledge, her family didn't, either.
"There are cases—" Sam sighed doubtfully. "going through a traumatic experience could make people more sensitive to premonitions, psychic tendencies..."
"Whatever's out there, what if Lucas is tapping into it somehow?" Dean asked; Sam made an uncommitted sound that made him stiffen. "I mean, it's only a matter of time before somebody else drowns, so if you got a better lead, please."
"It wouldn't hurt, Sam," Julia spoke up. "You know that sometimes these things happen."
"All right," Sam gave into the pressure Dean and Julia were putting on him. "we got another house to find."
"The only problem is there's about a thousand yellow two-stories in this county alone," Dean grumbled.
Julia hummed and leaned forward, studying the drawing on Sam's lap. "What about the church?"
"True," Sam agreed. "I bet there's less than a thousand of those around here."
"Ooh, college kids," Dean teased them playfully. "you think you're so smaht, huh?"
Sam laughed and Julia joined in, pushing Dean's shoulder before sitting back in her seat.
They drove around the town, looking for the churches in the area. They had already looked at four of them when they came across a white church, almost identical to the drawing Lucas gave Dean. Right across the street happened to be a yellow two-story.
Dean and Sam nodded at each other before the three of them walked up to the house and knocked on the door. An old woman answered the door, looking at them in confusion. She let them in without a word—and introduced herself as Helen Sweeney—so apparently they passed her silent test. Or she was just a sweet lady who didn't think any harm would come to her in a small town like Manitoc Lake.
"We're sorry to bother, ma'am, but does a little boy live here, by chance?" Dean asked her politely. "He might wear a blue ball cap, has a red bicycle."
"No, sir," Mrs. Sweeney said sadly. "Not for a very long time. Peter's been gone for thirty-five years now," she glanced at an old picture of an adolescent boy sitting on the nearest table. "The police never—I never had any idea of what happened. He just disappeared."
Julia pressed her lips together sadly and looked around Mrs. Sweeney's home. It looked like a shrine to her lost son. There were a bunch of pictures, toys, balls, and even some small green army men just like the ones they saw Lucas playing with.
"Losing him," Mrs. Sweeney shook her head slowly. "you know, it's...it's worse than dying."
Dean and Sam gave each other a pointed look—that was the exact phrase that Bill Carlton had used when talking about his recently-deceased children.
"Mrs. Sweeney," Julia gave her a gentle smile, keeping her voice soft. "Did Peter disappear from the house?"
Mrs. Sweeney shook her head. "He was supposed to ride his bike straight home after school but he never showed up."
Julia gave her a sympathetic smile and helped her sit down before offering to get her a glass of water. As she disappeared into the kitchen, Mrs. Sweeney allowed Sam and Dean to look around.
Dean spotted a picture of Peter and another little boy in a mirror hung on the way. He studied it and then turned it over to read the writing on the back.
"Peter Sweeney and Billy Carlton, nineteen-seventy," he muttered.
With the realization that the whole situation with Peter Sweeney going missing and being somehow connected to Bill Carlton, the three of them left shortly after Julia came back into the room with a glass of water for Mrs. Sweeney.
Sam, Julia, and Dean theorized that Bill must have killed Peter when he was a little boy and was now going after Bill Carlton. First, he killed Bill's children so that he would know the pain his mother went through when he went missing and then he'd take Bill for himself. As they raced to Bill Carlton's house, they knew Peter had gotten his revenge.
Bill had gone out onto the lake with his small motorized boat and in the middle of it; the boat flipped over on a very small wave that came out of nowhere and Bill plunged into the lake. He didn't resurface.
Julia, Dean, and Sam were led into the police station by Jake for questioning about Bill's death. It was suspicious to the sheriff that they just so happened to be at Bill's cabin at the same time as his boat flipped over.
Andrea and Lucas were waiting for Jake with a bucket of fried chicken when they walked into the building. She looked up in surprise when she saw them trailing behind her father.
"Sam, Dean, Julia," she furrowed her eyebrows and stood up. "I didn't expect to see you here."
"So, now you're on a first-name basis?" Jake asked her. "What are you doing here?"
"I brought you dinner."
"Sorry, sweetheart," Jake apologized. "I don't really have the time."
Andrea glanced at Julia, Dean, and Sam before looking back at her father. "I heard about Bill Carlton," she crossed her arms over her chest. "Is it true? Is something going on with the lake?"
"Right now, we don't know what the truth is but I think it might be better if you and Lucas went home," Jake advised.
Lucas looked absolutely panicked at the thought of leaving the station. He jumped out of his chair and ran to Dean. He whimpered as he frantically clutched Dean's arm, tugging at him.
"Lucas, hey, what is it?" Dean asked worriedly.
"Lucas?" Andrea asked uncertainly.
"Lucas, it's okay," Dean comforted the little boy, making Julia's heart ache and melt at the sight—he was damn good with kids. "It's okay, Lucas. It's okay."
Andrea pulled Lucas away from Dean and Lucas let go with a reluctant and stricken face. Andrea silently led him out of the station, giving her dad as hesitant look as they went. Lucas looked back at Dean with fear the whole time he walked away.
Uncomfortable, Jake slipped off his jacket and threw it onto the chair at the front desk. He walked into his office and the others followed him, knowing that they were going to be questioned now.
"Okay, just so I'm clear," Jake sighed heavily, sinking into his chair. "you see...something attack Bill's boat, sending Bill—who is a very good swimmer, by the way—into the water and you never see him again?
Dean glanced at Julia and Sam before looking back at him. "Yeah, that about sums it up."
"And I'm supposed to believe this even though I've already sonar-swept the entire lake?" Jake asked skeptically. "And what you're describing is impossible? And the fact that you're not really Wildlife Service?"
Julia's face fell in surprise. It wouldn't be far out to think that Dean and Sam felt the same way.
"That's right," Jake observed their expressions. "I checked. The department's never heard of you three."
Dean hastily started to make an excuse. "See, now, we can explain that."
"Enough," Jake snapped. "The only reason you're breathing free air is one of Bill's neighbors saw him steering out that boat just before you did. So, we have a couple of options here."
Julia pressed her lips together; she really didn't like this guy.
"I can arrest you for impersonating government officials and hold you as a material witness to Bill's Carlton's disappearance," Jake listed, pointing a finger in their faces. "Or, we can chalk this all up to a bad day, you get in your car, you put this town in your rearview mirror, and you don't ever darken my doorstep again."
Sam spoke up before Dean's temper and Julia's indignance got them into more trouble. "Door number two sounds good."
"That's the one I'd pick," Jake nodded harshly.
Julia, Sam, and Dean quickly took their leave, making a quick pit stop back at the motel to grab their things and check out. Dean was quiet as they loaded up the Impala and got some gas and when they pulled up to a red light that would lead them out of town and toward Milwaukee, he didn't move when the light turned green.
"Green," Sam drawled, getting Dean's attention.
"What?"
"The light's green."
Dean waited a few seconds before pressing the gas. He turned right, pulling onto the road that would bring them back into town.
"Uh, the interstate's the other way," Sam pointed out flatly.
"I know," Dean didn't seem to care.
Julia was glad that they were going back. They may have thought that only Bill Carlton and his family were connected to this but Lucas was so scared when his grandfather told him and his mom to leave the station. He had practically anchored himself to Dean before Andrea got him to let go. He was terrified and with all the correct signs he'd given them before, why wouldn't they believe him now?
"Dean, I think this job is over," Sam tried to get Dean to act rationally.
Dean shook his head firmly. "I'm not so sure."
"If Bill murdered Peter Sweeney and Peter's spirit got its revenge, case closed," Sam pointed out. "The spirit should be at rest."
"All right, so what if we take off and this thing isn't done?" Dean asked him. "You know, what if we've missing something? What if more people get hurt?"
Sam gave him a weird look. "Why would you think that?"
Dean pressed his lips together and Julia spoke up in his defense. "Sam, Lucas looked really scared..."
Sam glanced back at her and, when she subtly nodded in Dean's direction, he looked back at his brother with wide eyes. "That's what this is about?"
"I just don't want to leave this town until I know the kid's okay," Dean declared firmly.
"Who are you?" Sam scoffed in amusement. "and what have you done with my brother?"
Dean glared at him. "Shut up."
"Dean, just admit you like kids," Julia rolled her eyes playfully.
"You shut up, too."
It was a good thing that Dean was so stubborn about going back to check on Lucas because, when they got to the Barr residence, Andrea was being drowned by Peter's spirit in the bathtub. Julia and Sam pulled her to safety while Dean held Lucas back from harm but it was still scary for the both of them.
It was when Dean discovered that Jake had been friends with Peter Sweeney and Bill Carlton that Lucas ran out of their house and pointed to a patch of dirt out by the lake. When Sam and Dean dug up Peter's red bicycle, Jake had arrived and threatened them with a gun.
It went quickly after that; Dean had confronted Jake about helping Bill Carlton kill Peter Sweeney and Jake admitted that it was an accident and they left the body go in the lake. Lucas was lured into the lake by Peter and Jake surrendered to the spirit in order to save his grandson.
Despite losing Jake, they were able to save Lucas and Andrea.
-
Dean was melancholy all morning the day after, still sulking about the fact that Jake had been killed by Peter. Julia was sad to see him so down on himself when he was the main person who kept Lucas and Andrea safe—he believed in Lucas and he made sure they stayed in town to protect them.
Sam noticed the same thing as Julia. "Look," he sighed as he slung his and Julia's bags into the trunk. "we're not gonna save everybody."
Dean nodded. "I know."
"Turn that frown upside-down, Bean," Julia used her childhood nickname for him and reached up, playfully poking his chin. The corners of his lips lifted even though he swatted her hand away from his face. "You guys saved Andrea and Lucas. That's what matters."
"Yeah, yeah, yeah..."
"Sam, Dean, Julia!" Andrea called as she and Lucas ran up to them.
"Hey," Dean grinned at her.
"We're glad we caught you," Andrea declared. "We just, uh, we made you lunch for the road. Lucas insisted on making the sandwiches for himself."
"That's super sweet of you, Lucas," Julia gave him a sweet smile.
Lucas smiled sheepishly and looked up at his mom. "Can I give it to them now?"
Julia's eyes widened when she heard Lucas speak and let out a small huff of relief. She could tell by the look in Andrea's eyes that she was so relieved to see her son back to his old self.
"Of course," Andrea kissed his head.
"Come on, Lucas, let's load this into the car," Dean gestured the kid over to the Impala.
When they were out of hearing range, Sam turned to Andrea. "How are you holding up?"
"It's gonna take a long time to sort through everything, you know?" Andrea smiled sadly.
Sam sighed apologetically. "Andrea, I'm sorry."
Andrea shook her head. "You saved my son. I can't ask for more than that. Dad loved me and he loved Lucas. No matter what he did, I just have to hold onto that."
Julia grinned at her. "You're very wise, you know? You remind me of my mom."
Sam gave his best friend a sad smile and wrapped a supportive arm around her shoulder. Andrea gave her a grateful look and Julia was surprised when she pulled both her and Sam into a hug. If it had been a different life, she could really see herself being friends with Andrea.
The three of them walked over to the Impala, where Dean was sitting in the backseat so he was down at Lucas' level.
"All right," they overheard him say to Lucas. "if you're gonna be talking now, this is a very important phrase. So, I want you to repeat it one more time."
"Zeppelin rules!" Lucas exclaimed.
"That's right!" Dean grinned and held up his hand for a high-five. "Up high."
Lucas slapped his hand against Dean's. It was all very cute.
"You take care of your mom, okay?" Dean told Lucas seriously.
Lucas nodded. "All right."
Dean stood up when he noticed that Julia, Sam, and Andrea were watching them. Surprisingly, Andrea pulled Dean into a short kiss to show her thanks that had Sam and Julia raising their eyebrows at each other in amusement.
"Thank you," Andrea whispered as she pulled away from him.
Dean stared at her for a second before awkwardly scratching his head. "Sam, Jules, move your asses," he told Sam and Julia as he walked around to the driver's side. "We're gonna run out of daylight before we hit the road."
He was being dramatic since it was ten in the morning but Sam and Julia indulged him. It was clear that he was feeling uncharacteristically awkward from the kiss Andrea gave him and it was all kinds of endearing.
Julia gave Andrea and Lucas a final smile. "You two be safe."
What was left of the Barr family agreed as she slipped into the backseat. They waved as Dean drove off, his music blasting loudly.
"Hero gets the girl," Julia sighed, leaning her chin on the front seat. "and the other two get ham sandwiches and bananas."
Sam chuckled while Dean rolled his eyes in amusement.
"I'll eat your sandwiches if you don't shut up."
"Touch them and die, bitch."

One Month Later
“Hello, earth to Y/N.” Millie’s hand is waving in front of your face as you snap to attention. “Jesus, what is going on with you?”
“Nothing.” You shake your head, tapping the mouse to wake up your computer. “I’m just tired.”
“You don’t have to tell me, but don’t assume I’m an idiot.”
You’ve shared a little, she knew you were seeing someone, now you’re not. But you’ve never gone into details. She guessed once that your mystery weekend guy was some married man with a wife and kids. You let her live with the assumption. It’s easier that way.
Millie tilts her head, eyes flicking to Lexi’s empty desk. “Did Lexi tell you she’s working on some super secret project for the boss man?”
You want to throw up. Of course she is.
“She told me,” you confirm, typing in your password twice before getting it right.
“What do you think it is? I mean I love the girl, but she’s not the sharpest tool in the shed.” Millie looks at you, frowning in concern.
You have a pretty good idea what kind of special project Sam’s assigned her to, the same kind you worked on. He was bored fucking you so he moved on to someone younger, firmer and dumber. As much as you try to fight it, your mind can’t help but conjure up images of her on her knees sucking his cock.
“Seriously, are you okay?” Millie places a hand on your shoulder and you flinch, looking up at her. “You’re all over the place.”
“No,” you shake your head, sitting back in the chair. “I don’t think I want to work here anymore.
“Seriously?” Millie hunches down, getting close to whisper, “did Max do something again? Is someone bothering you?”
“No, he’s actually been really apologetic after he was put on his corrective action plan,” you snort. “I’m just fucking done. This place is a black hole and I need to move on.” You look at Lexi’s empty seat. “I’m gonna go talk to Pepper and put in my two weeks. Then I’m gonna let you take me out and get me drunk.”
--
After a few shots of tequila, you sit at the open window of your apartment, sipping a bottle of water and watching the city lights at night. For the better part of a year, life was focused around Sam, when you’d see him next, what would happen. Now that excitement is nowhere to be found and you're left with the realization that you’ve let the other parts of your life fade into the background. There’s a kind of emptiness that you’ve struggled to fill, a void that you’re learning to live with.
Above all else, you feel foolish. While you want to feel betrayed, you simply can’t. He was always up front. He told you time and time again it was nothing more than sex. But your logical mind and your heart aren’t always working together. Developing feelings for someone like Sam Winchester was bound to end badly, you knew that from the start.
If nothing else, Sam taught you a lot about yourself. Sex with him was eye-opening. He showed you how to openly desire all the things that you hid for so long. Not only do you know what you like, now you know how to ask for it and you’ll never be ashamed of what turns you on again.
It’s been one hell of a rollercoaster but it’s time to leave. Not just W & S, but Boston as well. It’s time to start over. In a couple of weeks, you’ll be in Chicago, a place where you know no one and no one knows you. It’s for the best, here your memories are haunted, little pieces of Sam everywhere. At least you learned a lesson.
As you lay down to go to sleep you glance at the bedside table. There’s a small vibrator in the drawer. You’ve tried to masturbate several times since your final goodbye but you can’t quite get there. All your fantasies somehow morph into Sam at the end and it pulls you right out of the moment. Perhaps more distance will help you get back to normal.
You fall asleep dreaming of a new life, somewhere far, far away.
Two Weeks Later
Juggling a comically tall stack of folders you head to the conference room.
You’re late for your last meeting as an employee of W & S. It’s your project hand-off, going over all your active cases with Pepper and Millie. Only a few more hours and you can kiss this place goodbye for good.
It’s as you open the door and flick the light switch, you’re met with a chorus of happy voices.
“Surprise!”
You jump back, breaking out into a smile at the room full of colleagues in party hats. There’s a sheet cake in the middle of the table with We’ll Miss You! scrawled across in blue frosting.
“You scared the shit out of me!” You laugh, dropping the files onto the table.
“That was the idea,” Pepper smirks, sliding a paper cup of punch across the table. “It’s not a surprise unless you shit yourself.”
“Honestly I didn’t expect this. I didn’t think anyone would care that I left,” you confess, looking at an envelope with your name written across it.
Millie is already cutting the cake, handing you the first piece. “Are you kidding, we all love you. It’s gonna be boring without you. Don’t get too excited about your gift, it’s only an Ikea gift card.”
“I never thought I’d say this,” Pepper leans in, dipping her finger into the frosting on your plate. “But I sure wish you were staying, Lexi is a nightmare.” You both look up at Lexi who’s babbling on in the corner of the room clad in a skin-tight pink dress. “I long for the days of your slow walking and crappy notes.”
“Good to know I’m appreciated in hindsight,” you force a smile, trying to focus on anything other than thoughts of Lexi and Sam.
There’s a faint, repeating noise in the distance, it’s out of place but you’re not really paying attention.
“Hey,” Max slides in beside you. Millie sighs but backs off. “I just wanted to say I’m sorry, for you know, saying that stuff about you. I was a dick.”
He has been making an effort, there’s a subtle hint of that nice guy you met before he turned into a full-fledged bastard.
“Yes, you were.” You roll your eyes, offering him a smile. “I forgive you, but only if you don’t do it to anyone else again.”
“I swear,” he nods, a hand over his heart. “Lesson learned, I-”
He pauses to listen to the popping in the distance. The room falls silent.
“Is someone setting off fireworks?” Pepper stands up, moving toward the window.
“That’s not fireworks,” Tim Bellamy from accounting stands up, walking to the door of the conference room and looking out into the hallway. “That’s gunfire.”
“What are you talking about?” Your heart speeds up to gallop, a low simmer of panic setting in. Right on cue, all the lights shut off, the whirl of the air conditioning stops.
There it is again, closer than before. It sounds like it’s coming from a few floors down.

“Someone’s shooting,” Millie whispers, looking to you with eyes the size of saucers.
“Security will stop whoever it is,” Pepper’s voice is broken as she wrings her hands together, staring at the open door.
“What do we do?” You look at Tim. You don’t know much about him, but you do recall that he’s a combat veteran, a Marine if you remember correctly.
“We run,” he confirms, taking off his suit jacket and throwing it on the table. “If you're wearing heels, take them off. Get rid of anything that’s going to slow you down or make noise.”
You reach down, slipping off your pumps, bare toes sinking into the carpet. You’re sweating now, listening to the burst of gunfire coming in rapid succession. For a moment it’s getting closer then there’s a break, silence.
“Follow me.” Tim inches toward the door, peeking out into the hallway. “If you get out into the open don’t run in a straight line, zig-zag back and forth. Doesn’t matter if anyone’s shooting at you, make yourself a hard target to hit.”
“This isn’t happening,” Millies cries behind you, her hands on your hips. “Oh my god, this can’t be happening.”
“Quiet,” Tim turns back, looking at each one of you. “Stay silent. Follow me now.”
You trail after him down the hall, everyone moving in silence, grasping each other’s hands. The hallway opens up into a sea of cubicles. You’re headed toward the red exit sign at the other end of the room, it’s the door to the stairwell.
Without warning the door slams open, hitting the wall with a thud. Millie yelps, Lexi screams from somewhere in the back. Trevor from IT comes sprinting toward you, sweating, in pure panic.
“He’s coming!” He yells running past you in a sprint.
“Who’s coming?” Max yells.
“Brent!” Trevor calls back, his voice faint as he disappears around the corner at the other end of the room.
Brent.
“Fuck,” you breathe, remembering the day he was fired, how it took multiple security guards to wrestle him out of the building. “Where do we-”
Your voice turns into a scream as Brent appears in the doorway. He’s holding some kind of huge rifle, the kind you’ve seen in movies as he jams in a fresh clip. He looks up spotting your group.
“Run!” Tim shouts, stepping in front with his arms spread wide.
Time slows down and you have a thousand thoughts at once.
You should have called your mom this morning.
You’re not wearing matching underwear.
You should have told Sam how you felt as soon as you felt it.
You’re going to die on your last day here, you should have left last week.
If you’d have gone to college, none of this would have ever happened.
There is an ear-shattering pop and Tim’s body jerks back, careening into you before he hits the wall and his knees give way. He’s clutching his stomach, blood pouring from a wound. You’re frozen in sheer terror, a scream erupting from your throat as Brent advances.
There’s a shout from the other side of the room, a woman you’ve never seen before shrieks drawing his attention. There’s a spray of bullets in her direction and you watch in horror when she sinks behind one of the cubicles.
Turning back to you Brent looks calm and focused as he takes aim and shoots off another round, hitting Max in the upper thigh. One more step and he shoots again, the bullet hitting Max’s chest and this time he falls to the floor.
Brent is close now, his eyes narrowing as he hones in on you.
“Please,” you whisper, shaking uncontrollably as you raise both hands in front of your face. There is no sight or sound, everything comes to a halt as you take a final breath.  “Please don't kill me.”
Brent just snorts, raising the gun and pointing it at your head.
Sam comes out of nowhere moving with a speed and power that you would have never known he was capable of. He drives the heel of his hand up into Brent’s chin, snatching the rifle from him in the same move. Swinging the butt of the gun around he whacks Brent in the head hard enough that it makes a sickening crack. Blood begins to pour from the wound as Brent’s knees buckle and he collapses to the ground.
With a series of methodical movements, Sam disassembles the firearm as if he’s done it a million times before. In ten seconds flat it’s lying in pieces on the carpet. He kneels next to Brent, patting down his unconscious body and pulling away two handguns that are tucked into his waistband. Sam takes those apart as well, leaving the pieces on a nearby desk.
“Are you alright?” he asks and you realize he’s talking to you. You blink, your mind a blank slate looking from Brent to Sam who’s standing in front of you, one hand on each shoulder. “Y/N?”
“I think so,” you mutter, staring at him in disbelief. All that fear is suddenly gone and you’re numb, physically and emotionally, save for the nauseous feeling in your belly. You explain calmly, “I think I might throw up.”
“That’s okay,” he cups your face for a moment, both hands under your jaw, giving you his undivided attention. “Are you hurt?”
You shake your head no, turning away from him to vomit onto the floor.
“Oh my God!” You hear Lexi’s high pitched shriek coming up behind you. When you look up she’s throwing herself at Sam, wrapping arms around him. “You saved us!”
Sam just looks at you, his arms dangling at his side as she presses her head over his chest.
“Ohmygod, ohmygod,” Millie’s arms are around you, trembling as she squeezes tight. Wiping your chin you heave again, the last of your stomach contents coming up. “You’re alright, you’re gonna be alright.” She keeps repeating, rocking back and forth as she strokes your hair.
It’s not exactly soothing for you, but it seems to be what she needs, so you let her cradle you.
The next few minutes are a blur. Every moment melts into the next. There’s a swirl of activity, police and swat officers swarming the room. Several people are talking at you but you can’t hear them, your ears are ringing and you’ve got tunnel vision. Someone moves you, there’s a hand on each arm and you’re walking but not sure where or how.
The next thing you know you’re in Sam’s office, sitting on his couch. He’s standing near his desk and you’re surrounded by a dozen agents with ATF and FBI emblazoned on their clothes.
The voices come in and out of focus. There’s a man sitting next to you, his mustache is untrimmed, creeping over his upper lip and for a moment it’s all you see.
“Y/N?” he asks, leaning closer. “Can you hear me?”
“She’s in shock.” A female voice comes from somewhere in the background. “We have an ambulance on the way. We needed to get the critical cases out of the building first. We can have someone drive her-”
“I can hear you.” You clear your throat, feeling like you’ve been shot with a tranquilizer. A hush falls over the room and you look from the man in front of you to Sam. “I don’t wanna go to the hospital. Please don’t make me.”
“Okay,” Sam nods, walking over and sitting on the coffee table in front of you. “She can wait until tomorrow, can’t she?” He looks at the officer next to you.
“We don’t recommend it.” Another voice answers.
“I don’t want to be here anymore.” You look around at the strangers staring at you like a zoo animal. “Sam, I want to leave.”
“She shouldn’t be alone in this state. Once we have her emergency contacts we’ll send a car to take her home.”
“That’s not necessary she’s going home with me.” Sam reaches out, squeezing your knee. “We can set up a time tomorrow afternoon for interviews.”
-
You sit in silence next to Sam as the car makes the drive to Newton. The world whizzes by as you look out the window, your mind a blank slate devoid of any real thought. Sam doesn’t say anything, you’re vaguely aware of him looking at you from time to time. By the time you reach his house, your mind and body are starting to equalize. You follow him into the house, looking around at the all too familiar surroundings. Nothing's changed since the last time you were here.
Sam walks directly into the kitchen, opening up a cupboard and pulling out an empty trash bag.
“Take your clothes off.” He instructs calmly. You snort, eyes widening, unsure of how he can even think that you’re going to comply with his commands- “You have blood on your clothes,” he explains and you feel instantly sheepish. “Undress and take a shower.”
You look at him, a combination of betrayal and exhaustion. There’s a lot you want to say, but instead, you pull your blouse over your head, then shimmy your skirt down your hips. He holds open the bag and you place both inside, then strip the rest of the way, peeling off your panties and bra.
Naked, you pad down the hallway to his room, leaving the light off as you find the way to his shower and climb inside. You sit down on the tile under the warm water, pulling your legs up to your chest. You stay just like that until the water runs cold and you have to get out.
When you finally get out, you halfheartedly dry off, leaving the towel on the hook and a series of wet footprints on the hardwood of his bedroom floor.
Sam is sitting on the edge of the bed but stands up the moment he sees you. He must have used the guest shower because his hair is wet and he’s wearing a plain white t-shirt and blue and white striped pajama pants.
You just stand there in the nude, staring at him, a million thoughts colliding at the same time.
“Why am I here?” you ask quietly. You’re not sure if you want the answer, you’re still upset with him, raw over your last conversation.
“Because I want you here.” He responds evenly. “You were traumatized and I-”
“I’m not the only one who was traumatized,” you interrupt. “I don’t see anyone else here.”
“No, you don’t.” He raises his chin, jaw locked in place.
“How did you know how to do that? What you did to Brent, I’ve only ever seen people fight like that in the movies.”
“My dad,” he explains, running his tongue over his teeth under his upper lip. “Winchester 101.”
“Right,” you nod, feeling water dripping from the end of your hair, down your back and over your breasts. “You’re a hero. You came to save us. Guess you’re not a total asshole.”
“I am a total asshole. I don’t give a shit about anyone else.” This confession comes out just as simple as everything else while you stare at each other. “I came for you.”
“Why?” you ask imploringly, stepping forward. “Why didn’t you come for Lexi, she’s your ‘special project’ now.”
“You think I’m sleeping with her?” He raises an eyebrow, letting out a humorless chuckle. “Well, that’s what I hoped you’d assume. I wanted to hurt you because I am an asshole. I wanted you to move on. But I’m not fucking her. I have her reporting back me on Peter Kelson. He’s leaking information. He wants to fuck her, so he drinks too much and tells her more than he should and then she tells me. That’s all.”
“I don’t understand you,” you sigh, defeated. “You said you were bored with me. You cut me out like I was nothing and now you’re telling me you put yourself in front of a bullet for me?”
“I lied.” He shrugs, looking to the side before forcing his gaze back to you. “I was, I am, uncomfortable with the way I feel about you. I want to be with you, I care for you. That’s not something I know how to do anymore. I gave up on that concept a long time ago.”
Your heart does a little skip in your chest, first the worst day of your life and now this. Whatever this is.
“You can’t just...do this. You walked away from me like I meant nothing to you.”
“I wanted you to hate me,” he confesses, eyes transfixed on yours waiting to see if you’ll bolt.
“I did.” You shrug, stripped bare of pretense. There’s no room for anything to be left unsaid, not anymore. “I do, hate you. The way you treated me made me feel small...insignificant.”
“I know,” he nods, blinking twice, before looking at the floor to gather himself. “But you’re not.”
“I care about you.” You look down at your hands. “But how can you say that? You were going to let me leave. Let me move halfway across the country.”
“You would have been fine.” He steps closer, face tightening in displeasure. “You were hurt, and pissed at me, but you would have moved on. I was going to let you go but I couldn’t let you die, I couldn’t go through that again-” His voice wavers and he pauses, searching your face. “I make a shitty partner in every sense of the word. I’m selfish and impatient. I don’t like relinquishing control. I don’t like to talk about how I feel or my past. I’ll hurt you and you may end up hating me in the end...but I don’t want you to go. I want you to stay in Boston, to stay with me.”
“You haven’t apologized yet, apologized for hurting me like that.” You swallow, watching his jaw set wishing you could just read his mind. It would make this so much easier.
“I’m sorry.” He implores and for the first time you see a side of him you would have not imagined existed. He looks vulnerable, sad and desperate, completely out of character.
“Will you try?” you whisper, tears brimming in the corners of your eyes. “It’s one thing to say that you’re terrible at relationships but it’s another to accept it. You put so much energy and commitment into your work, Sam. Are you going to give me at least some of that? Because if you’re not going to try, then there’s no point.”
“I’ll try,” he nods. “I give you my word.”
“Then I’ll stay,” you murmur as his hands cup your face, sliding along either side of your jaw.
He leans down to kiss you, lips meeting gently for the first time. As adept as he is in the bedroom, you wonder if he’s kissed anyone like this since his girlfriend all those years ago. He’s hesitant, the gentle press of his mouth to yours growing more passionate as you slide your tongue forward. That first kiss grows, hands pulling and grabbing, anything to be closer to one another.
He’s naked before you hit the bed, whipping his shirt over his head and stepping out of his pants before he picks up and spreads you over the mattress.  For all the sex you’ve had, all the spanking and groping and sucking, you’ve never felt him like this. The heat and heft of his body take your breath away. This much skin on skin is like a drug as you wrap your legs around his waist, holding him tight as he kisses you long and deep.
His cock is thick and hard, poking your thigh as you whimper and moan underneath him. Your fingernails dig into his back holding on, desperate to have him just like this. You could drown underneath him in this bed and die happy here and now.
You’re both making up for lost time, his mouth sealed to yours as he moans against your lips, pulling back only long enough to suck in a breath before tasting you again.
Spreading your legs wide you watch as he notches of the head of his cock in your pussy. That first push inside makes you gasp as he stretches you open. Your mouth opens wide against his as he slides home, filling you to the root.
“Fuck, Sam,” you whine, fisting one hand in his hair as he strokes in and out, setting an easy pace that’s far from the usual. “You feel so good like this.”
“Gonna make you cum so hard,” he mumbles against your lips. Grabbing a fist full of hair he tugs your head back, slowly pulling your neck taught. “Look at me.”
“I am,” you promise, eyes opening as his cock moves inside you. It’s a full feeling that sends a tingle up your spine and then fans out in all directions. While you can’t orgasm from just this, the stretch of his shaft feels incredible. For a long time, he fucks you just like this, the weight of him pressing you down into the bed, his chest laying over your beasts, and his mouth sealed to your lips.
While he’s not exactly gentle, he’s also not as rough as he has been in the past. His breath is hot as he buries his face in your neck, grunting and panting with every stroke. Tonight is about pleasure and connection and you’re practically humming on every level as the world fades away and only this moment exists.
Sam props himself up on his arms, breathing heavy as he rocks strong and deep. One hand cups your breast, just holding you as you stare up him, his hair hanging down, swinging with the movement of his body. He dips down for one more kiss before lifting himself up enough to wedge his hand between your bodies in search of your clit. His mouth seals shut in concentration as he thrusts steadily, making gentle sweeps over your bud.
It doesn’t take long, you’re already drenched in pleasure and with the addition of his touch, you swell with satisfaction.
“Can I cum?” you pant, mouth falling open as you hold back, waiting for his permission out of sheer force of habit.
“Yes,” he gasps, pressing forward, holding his cock deep and rubbing your clit and you come undone, clenching and pulsing around him.
“Oh God,” is all you can muster, twitching and jerky underneath him.
He knows what you like, you prefer when he keeps his cock buried in your cunt as you cum instead of fucking you through it. It makes everything better, perfectly stuffed and stretched as you pull him inside, muscles tightening with each wave of pleasure.
He waits for you to come back down, letting you fall limp as he picks up the pace fucking you quick in a half dozen hard thrusts before he cums with a series grunts and groans as he fills your pussy, spilling thick and warm until you feel his seed leaking over your ass.
“Fuck,” he groans, collapsing on top of you.
You wrap yourself around him, holding him tight while he’s still inside you. The first time he tries to pull away you don’t let him so he settles between your hips and you kiss and touch each other until you finally release him.
Rolling off you he lies on his back, breath quick with one hand on his chest.
Everything is sticky, not just the mess between your legs but every inch of your skin is covered in sweat, most of it his. It feels claustrophobic, a rising crescendo emerging from somewhere deep inside. It starts as panic in your gut but twists into something else, an overwhelming sadness. An instant snapshot of your own mortality.
You almost died. Other people did. You were this close. So close.
All you can think about is the vast nothingness of not existing. The concept of simply being snuffed out is overwhelming and terrifying. You want to think about Sam, this new stage of your complicated relationship. You’re desperate to focus on the man lying beside you, the person you’ve missed for months who’s just confessed his feelings for you. But all you see in front of your open eyes is the image of Brent with that gun.
An unexpected sob tears from your throat and you slap a hand over your mouth in surprise. Sam actually jumps, jerking up into a sitting position as you wail, suddenly in hysterics. The panic returns, tightening your chest as your vision blurs and you roll onto your side, curling into a ball.
“Hey,’ his hand is hesitant, patting your hip. “What’s wrong?”
“I don’t know,” you blubber, body shaking like a leaf. “I just feel...everything. I can’t breathe.”
“You’re in shock,” he speaks calmly from somewhere above you. He touches you with fleeting hands, out of practice with a gentle touch. “I should have taken you to the hospital. We can go-”
“No,” you sob, reaching out for him. “Just stay here with me. Don’t leave.”
You cling to him, burrowing into his neck as he lies back. His arm hesitating before wrapping around you. This is arguably the most intimate you’ve ever been with each other and it’s the truest test so far. You don’t need a doctor, you need something to ground you, make you feel safe.
And right on cue Sam fills the need as if you’d told him what to do.
“I won’t let anything happen to you,” he whispers, a big hand stroking up and down your back. “Everything is going to be fine.”
“People died,” you close your eyes, pressing your nose over his rough five o'clock shadow. “I almost died.”
“But you didn’t.” He reaches down, pulling the blanket up over you both. “And you’re not going to, not for a long time.”
“Are you sure you want this?” You ask softly, fingers curling into the sparse hair of his chest. “All I can think is that you’re going to walk away again.”
“I won't,” he breathes, both arms tightening around you. “Try not to worry about that now. There’s going to be plenty of time for us to talk about this. Just close your eyes and try to sleep. I’ll be here when you wake up.”
You stare across the room at the open door of his closet, listening to his heartbeat.
“Everything is going to be different now,” you whisper.
“I know,” he murmurs, already on the verge of sleep. “That’s how we move forward.”

No One’s Gonna Love You (2)
Pairing: Dean x Reader
A/n: I found a “starters” post on pinterest… and here is the resulting mini series. Key line: “I need to stop kissing strangers and pretending they’re you.” Mostly angst, but fluff also. *Google Image not mine (edited). Warnings: cursing, angst, a guy that’s kinda creepy.
Tumblr media
After a shower and a change of clothes, you were leaning against the back of the Impala as the brothers pushed themselves through the garage door. Dean had a little hop in his step, seemingly excited for his night out of the bunker, while Sam schlepped behind him typing on his phone.
After a fifteen-minute car ride of Sam and his brotherly bickering of Dean’s choice of music and you were at another Roadhouse-esq hole in the wall with the smell of stale beer etched into the fabric of the booths.
“Seriously, dude?” Dean muttered around a mouthful of cheeseburger. “Who orders a salad at a dive bar?” he berated Sam as he stabbed at his chicken caesar salad with the dressing on the side.
“I mean, usually I’m on your side here, man… but I gotta side with Dean on this one. Can’t you even just order fries like a normal person?” you said, waving one of your French fries in his face. “They even have those disgusting sweet potato fries you like so much.”
Sam chuckled and gave some halfhearted attempt at arguing why his choice was better than yours or Dean’s ‘pile of grease’. You responded by taking a piece of the bacon from your burger and plunging it into your mouth unceremoniously.
After the plates were cleared, Dean set off to the bar and ordered his first whiskey of the evening. You and Sam were chatting about a Game of Thrones fan theory you read online and sipping on your respective beers when your eyes drifted to a bottle blonde in a skin tight, barely-below-the-butt-cheek skirt. Of course, you’d never shame or judge a woman for her choice of clothing, often sticking up for them if someone ever got too handy, but even you couldn’t help the wide-eyed stare when she bent over the bar to shout at the bartender.
No sooner did your eyebrows raise were Dean’s shooting to his hairline, swiftly gliding down the bar to chat her up. The shocked expression on your face was quickly replaced with hurt, which you quickly tried to chase away with a clearing of your throat and a swig of your beer. When you set it down back on the wooden table, Sam’s eyes were fixed on you from the opposite booth and a small, sympathetic smile was placed on his lips.
“Shut up, Sam.” You deadpanned.
“Y/n—“
“Sam… please?” You begged.
He nodded his head in understanding, “Okay. I will. But if you ever want to talk, I’m here.” He gripped your hand quickly with a couple of pats as Dean’s hand traveled to the hem of Blondie’s skirt and his fingertip traced patterns along her smooth upper thigh. After that, they were quick to retreat out the swinging doors into the parking lot.
It was always the same. Dean left with a girl who looked nothing like you; always between 4-7 inches taller and a good fifteen pounds lighter at least. You chugged the remainder of your beer and swung your legs out of the booth in search of something stronger. A shot of tequila was downed quicker than one would think humanly possible from the time it hit the wood in front of you. An irritated roll of your neck and a stretch of your spine caused your t-shirt to ride up revealing the small of your back. You heard a low whistle from behind you and prepared yourself for the ambush of ‘hey baby’-ies and ‘what’s your sign’-s. Sure, you could go home with another guy; it wouldn’t be the first time, but the act was getting old. You began to hate the feeling of cheap hook-ups in different towns dotted across the country, knowing deep down that they were only there to fill a void—sadly, no pun intended.
A tall man with slight stubble and too much aftershave that did little to cover up the cigarette smell sat on the stool beside you. Accosted with the overly peppery scent, it took all of your will-power to quell the small gag that crept up your throat.
“Where do you come from, darlin’?” the John Doe next to you slurred.
Another shot appeared in front of you. You tossed it back before answering unimpressively, “Mars. I’m an alien.”
He chuckled low in his throat, sending chills up your spine. There was just something about the guy that made your insides do summersaults, it wasn’t from the tequila and it sure as hell wasn’t good. Every instinct told you to sock the guy where he stood, but that would cause too much attention.
“Well, tell me something about yourself, sweetheart.”
Wow. This guy was thick. If it wasn’t visible by the obvious disgust on your face, the slow and methodological move away from him was practically blaring ‘fuck off’ in his general direction.
“Well, don’t be so secretive kitten. I just wanna get to know ya.” He purred.
“You want to know something about me, huh? Okay.” You turned towards him; the confidence and irritation that came with your slight buzz flowed through your veins. If he didn’t lay off soon, you’d be out for blood. “How about this hot-shot… I can kill a man with my belt buckle.”
He began to laugh, until he looked at your raised eyebrow and challenging expression, muttering something about you being a crazy bitch.
“Excuse me, who the fu—“you began, only to be interrupted by a loud scuffle.
A rough slap on the creep’s shoulder had him being hauled up by the collar of his jacket, Dean’s fist being on the offensive and dragging him off of his stool.
“What did you just call her?” Dean growled, Sam right behind him.
“Who the hell are you?!” he shouted.
“Doesn’t matter. Now apologize.”
Drunk guy muttered something barely recognizable, but that wasn’t satisfying to you or Dean.
“I couldn’t hear you.” You barked, inching closer to his face.
He paused, looking up to meet your eyes, “… Sorry.”
You nodded to Dean, who yanked whats-his-face by the collar to whisper in his here, “By the way… she wasn’t lying. She really can kill a guy with her belt buckle. Quickly, too. Now get out of here.”
Intoxicated dude-bro stumbled out of the bar and into the night air as you pounded one last shot before turning to Dean, “Thanks.  I had it, though.”
“Oh, I know you did, sweetheart. I never thought you didn’t.”
“What about you? What happened to… uh, whoever-she-was?” you asked, averting your eyes to stare at your now empty shot glass.
“Eh… not my type tonight.” He replied nonchalantly, shoving his hands deep in his jean pockets. “Are you ready to head home?”
The steady flow of tequila flowing through you began to swirl your thoughts heavily. What started as a drink to ease your frustrations had quickly turned into too much. You stumbled slightly before looking to Dean for help, “Yeah… yeah, I am.”
Both of the Winchesters were quick to support you as you trekked to the car, leaning into their sides as Dean tossed Sam the keys.
The cool breeze made you feel clammy and a bit sick. Dean slid into the back seat with you as you quickly scurried in. Maybe three shots after beer wasn’t the best idea. “Beer before liquor, never sicker” you heard your old Aunt’s words ringing in your ears as the boys drove you home.
Dean helped you into the bunker bathroom while Sam went to fetch you a glass of water. Being home in your ‘bubble’ of comfort made you feel better, the fog of the alcohol lifting slightly.
“Ugh.” You said as Dean placed a cold washcloth on the back of your neck. “Too much, too soon.”
“I’ve always said that about you, Y/n.” he chuckled heartily, “You’re always diving in head first.”
“Pfft. Yeah, and look where it got me.” You mumbled, taking the glass of ice water from Sam who quickly retreated back out the door.
You groaned audibly when the coldness hit the back of your throat, only noting then that Dean was staring at you.
“What did you say?” he asked.
You peered up at him from your seated position against the bathroom cabinet. You were sure when you slid down there, but… here you were.
“What? I didn’t say anything.”
He crouched down in front of you, swinging his long legs next to yours so he was seated across from you, his weight rested on the palms of his hands. “You can lie all you want, Y/n. I’m not goin’ anywhere.”
Feeling dizzy, you closed your eyes and leaned your head back exhaustedly. You were sobering up a little, but not nearly fast enough, and at this point, you were mentally and physically drained of the stress of Dean Winchester. You’d been drunk in his presence a million times, but you were now at the point where you couldn’t control it anymore. Your intoxicated mind told you to just let him have it—all of the thoughts you’d been lying about and all of your deepest, darkest secrets.
“Wuddya’ want me to say, Dean? You’re right. I dive right in. Don’t even test the waters; just cannonball right into the deep end. In life, in love—doesn’t matter. I always do it. I do it with hunting, ya know I do. Go in, guns blazing, am I right?”
Dean sat motionless, sensing that you were heading somewhere with this and knowing better than to interrupt you.
You laughed as your head rolled slightly, moving of its own accord and weight. “Did you know the human head weighs eight pounds?” you asked randomly, causing him to don a perplexed look. “It does. And guess what? You’re head is pretty.” You pointed an unsteady finger at his face. “That’s another thing that I’ve just jumped right off the ledge into. Did you know that, Dean-o? I’ve been in love with you forever.” You sort of whisper growled the last note, jerking your body with emphasis but still not opening your eyes. “But it's a lost cause, huh? I know you don’t love me. And what would I expect? I’m not the type of girl you go after… like ever. I’m just me… and no one’s ever gonna love me.”
When you finally opened your eyes to see him scooting closer to you on the floor, his eyes widened and mouth agape, ready to protest. You held up a hand to halt him, shaking your head furiously and much too quickly, “Don’t, Dean. Don’t make up some story about how great I am or any other bullshit, okay? I know I’m not your type, and that’s fine. I don’t wanna be that, not that there’s really anything wrong with it... I like who I am, honestly, but there’s a few things I need to admit to myself.” You paused, looking down to examine your hands and avoid his waiting stare.
Tears threatened to spill as you finally met his gaze and spoke, “I need to stop kissing strangers and pretending they’re you…”

When Jensen released the video announcing the conclusion of the series, I had a very weird feeling. I respect their decision but I think it was more Jensen idea than Jared and this annoys me a lot, but it seems that if you say something like that you are not a real fan. What do you think about it? You have no idea of the insults I took because I dared to say that Jared and Jensen think differently...
I agree with you Nonny. I think it was Jensen’s idea too.
Bottom line: Jensen wants to move on, therefore, the show must end.
Longer version:
Jared has wanted to leave the show for a long time. Or, maybe not leave, but definitely not be in front of a camera for a while. He’s said that he’d like some time off after spn ends, but any actor that takes time off rarely gets back in the spotlight. But he wouldn’t leave as long as Jensen wanted to keep doing the show. Jared didn’t want to put the crew out of work (Oprah had similar concerns with her show, and I think she gave two or three years notice before ending), but he was also burning out. The show gracefully allowed more characters to reappear, which gave Jared a lighter workload. This worked for years.
Jensen wants to stay in the industry, but that means they can’t just end spn, they have to plan it out to the last day. In that planning is prep work for Jensen to show the industry who he is, what he’s capable of, and that he’s on the market again. That involves PR work to help guide public perceptions. This can be seen by Jensen’s public image lately: Architectural Digest shoot, King Bacchus, FBBC heavily promoted, and the texting ad, just to name the ones off the top of my head. This is radically different from Jared’s public persona: meeting fans, partying, drinking, and marathon running.
The video showed me that Jensen is ready for the next step, but Jared needs more time to mourn. But houseofglass, you said Jared wanted to leave! Yes, but he holds his emotions much closer to the surface than Jensen does. I think Jared, even though he’s tired, would have kept going on with the show just to keep his lifestyle afloat. I also think that even though they planned this out, seriously planned it, that it wasn’t real for Jared until they told the crew. As long as the workplace was in the dark, Jared could keep his fantasy of leaving alive. But once it became reality, several things probably fell into place for him.
What are those things? This depends on your perceptions Nonny. I don’t know if you’re a tinhat, a shipper, or a casual fan, so I’ll give a couple of explanations.
Casual Fan:Both have said they’ll keep going until the writing doesn’t work. Well, objectively, that would’ve been a few seasons ago. I mean, God’s sister? Crowley had a mother? WTF? The writers have been adding extra characters, presumably to give J2 time off, but the show has suffered as a result. Anyway. Let’s move on.
Jared’s adult life has been consumed by this show. He was 22 when he filmed the pilot, and is now 37. He has no idea of what adult life is without the show. Everything hinges on it. Travel, family time, filming, vacations, work related PR, conventions, meeting fans, all of it. Sure, he acted before the show and had a life before it as well. But his formative adult years were spent at one job. Imagine being married during the same age range for the same duration. Ending that marriage, whether toxic or not, is difficult.
Without the show, Jared has to figure out who he is and what he wants to do to fill his days. That’s really scary for someone who has mental illness or spends a lot of time inside their own head. As soon as the crew was notified, Jared had to face up to the fact that he agreed to this, that his life will now change, that his cornerstone is going to be gone, that it’s now REAL. So while he might have been ready to move on intellectually, he wasn’t quite ready to deal with the reality of it.
Jensen wants to keep working and try new things. Supernatural is holding him back. Don’t @ me, it is holding him back. He’s typecast. Pigeonholed. He’s Dean Winchester; tough guy with a soft heart. Trying to get another role will be difficult. If he stays in the industry and works behind the scenes he has a better chance, but first he needs to put spn behind him.
He knows Jared wants a break. He knows the crew will be unemployed. He knows spn contributes a lot to Vancouver/BC’s economy. He also knows he has to do difficult things to get what he wants. He has to end the show, and do it gracefully. I have no doubt he’s shaken up by his decision, but is comfortable with it.
Jared, however, seemed less comfortable with it even though he’s made it clear he wants a break. Wanting something and getting it are two different emotional states.
Shipper:Shipping isn’t a problem for J2. Kim Manners used to show them the Wincest fics and even print them out and post them on a bulletin board. J2 found it funny and a good release of creative energy. Neither appeared to have any issue with shipping.
Until they did.
Jensen could brush off all Destiel shipping questions pretty easily at first. It was an expression of creativity and his attitude was ‘to each their own’. But some Destiel shippers became militant and started asking invasive questions at cons. They also started hounding him on SM about Destiel. He’s handled it very well over the years, despite the hatred he received in return. But when he said, “Destiel doesn’t exist” at a con, I think that was the turning point for him.
Dean Winchester was a character Jensen really liked. Kinda tough, liked cars, masculine, good-natured, free lifestyle, that kind of thing. But somehow Dean got boiled down to half of Destiel. And I don’t mean with just the fans. I have eyes, I’ve seen the show, they queerbaited Cas and Dean when Cas was new. Although I think a lot of that queerbaiting was in the editing room. They could slow film down or change the colour saturation if they chose to, and this could change the audience’s perceptions of what’s going on.
Sidebar: I watched a show named unREAL which was about the producers of a show like The Bachelor, and in unREAL they demonstrated how to make two people look like they had chemistry. I had to pause the show, rewind, and watch again. I didn’t know that slowing film down could make glances seem significant. I know now.
So, here’s Jensen, playing a character he likes, only to have it 'twisted’ into something he doesn’t believe it is. For a while this was fine. Let the fans think what they want, it brings in ratings, it doesn’t change how he acted. Then it wasn’t fine, he got more and more irritated with the whole thing. If he kept going on with the show, he might have had to play a character in a way that was more like pandering and less like being authentic to the character.
On that note, Jensen has been distancing himself from Misha over the years. Why? Because Misha fuels Destiel whenever possible. Well, not lately. He’s switched to Sastiel. Anyway, despite being able to draw a crowd at a con with a Destiel panel, Jensen only does one a year: Jus In Bello. Please gently correct me if I’m wrong here, but I’m sure there’s only one Destiel panel and it’s in Rome. Jensen participated in the charity campaign with Misha, but not much since then. I suspect he did it because TPTB insisted he do something, and he agreed to the YANA campaign. Remember, celebrities are beholden to PR.
So now Jensen is doing a show with a person that isn’t respecting a boundary (stop pushing Destiel), and the perceptions of his character have changed in a way he doesn’t like. Time to end the show. Being a true professional, he ensured the fans and crew had enough notice to adjust to the idea.
Jared didn’t seem bothered by any shipping at all. If this is the primary reason for the show’s end, it was Jensen’s idea more than Jared’s IMO.
Tinhat:I believe Jared wanted to end the show after PR tried to separate him and Jensen by insisting they get married to women. Jared’s first breakdown was right about that time, and I always wondered if it was because he was living in a happy bubble with his lover and his show, and now he had to pander to the (perceived) hetero audience. Leading men just could not be gay back in the day. There’s more outed gay actors now, but fifteen years ago things were different. He held on, did as he was told, and his world continued.
Jared’s marriage seems to be falling apart, and I, personally, suspect it’s already over and done. Papers signed, custody arrangements made, properties split. If the show was still going on, he’d have to field questions about his divorce. But, if the show is announced it’s ending and then he announces his divorce, the divorce will take a back seat to the show’s finale. Timing is everything.
Jensen has seemed happy as a pig in shit for the entire run of the show. Sure, he’s had bad days, but mostly he’s enjoyed his time on spn and the lifestyle it’s awarded him. He didn’t seem as upset about getting married as Jared did (seriously, go find the pics of Jared’s wedding. He looked like he was kissing something repugnant), but Jensen had a different upbringing that conditioned him for a celebrity lifestyle. He probably knew beards were mandatory and it was just a matter of when, not if.
In order for them to still spend a ridiculous amount of time together, they had to keep the show going. It wasn’t a problem, the network was fine with it. But the pressure was hard for Jared and has been for a long time. If not for Jensen, Jared would have left years ago.
But then they announced the show was ending and their reactions were a bit off. Jensen appeared somewhat together, a bit excited, a bit sad, but ready. Jared looked like he’d been crying for hours and still had days worth of tears to shed.
The tinhat in me says this is because their entire world is about to change, and it may not be for the better. Nobody can predict the future. How much of J2’s success as a couple is reliant on them being together for most of the time? How will they navigate their relationship if only one is working? Will they come out? Probably not, if Jensen wants to stay in the industry. Jared won’t have his lover acting with him, he won’t have his lover for most of the hours in a day/week/month/year. He’s going to be alone, and that’s scary.
For the tinats: I’m not saying their relationship won’t survive. I don’t have a crystal ball. But it might be rocky at first while they figure out their new dynamics.
TL;DR: yes, Jensen seemed happier than Jared in the video. Jared seemed much more upset, and even tried to look at Jensen, who looked toward Misha instead of meeting his eyes.
Oh, and I didn’t really address Misha in this because it’s always been said that as long as J2 want the show to continue, it will. Him being in the video is more of a PR thing to me: Misha also needs to build his portfolio and I suspect his agent has negotiated more uh, 'lead exposure’? for him. I don’t know what the correct phrasing is, but he’s been lumped with J2 more and more lately.
Oh, and if you read this far, thanks for letting me babble :)

Shut Her Up (Gabriel x Reader, reupload)
A/N: Have to reupload tis as well cause it had a header image of a dick in a mouth!!! Warnings: Smut, dub-con
Tumblr media
One of the worst decisions Gabriel had made since he made peace with the Winchesters was that he'd owe them a favour for each time he'd killed Dean. He figured those favours would include translating Enochian, finding people, helping out with tracking weapons and monsters and so on. Yeah, they had asked him to do that a few times, but mostly they asked him to babysit their not-sister while they were hunting. (Y/N) was a 19 year old nightmare. She was stubborn, bratty, loud, obnoxious, provocative, annoying and so hot.
"Gabriel are you alive?" she asked and threw a piece of cucumber in his face. "Not cool," he muttered. "I'm talking to you," she insisted. "No! No, you're not! You're babbling and you actually expect me to listen to you." Gabriel ran a hand through his hair and looked at the time. (Y/N) mock-mimicked his comment and grimaced before turning her attention back to her food. He conjured up a glass of Champagne for himself and took a big sip. Just as he set it down, (Y/N) made a move for it, but he snatched her hand before it reached its goal.
"Wouldn't think so, sweetheart," he said with a mocking grin. "Come on, just a sip!" "Forget it." "In Europe you can drink when you're eighteen!" "Does it look like we're in frickin' Europe to you?" "We could be anywhere, this motel room could be anywhere in-" "Shut up. Just shut your mouth. We're in America and you're not allowed to drink yet." "Oh come on! Like you never ha... Okay, no you probably didn't drink before eighteen..." A tiny blush grazed her cheeks before she continued. "Fine! Just a beer? A light one?" "You can have a soda! You like cherry cola right? Here," Gabriel snapped and conjured up a bottle of cherry cola. But (Y/N) didn't drink it, she just growled angrily and left the table. "You could clean up after yourself, y'know!" "Yeah, or you could do it about a hundred times quicker with a snap of your fingers, Angel!" she called back. The 'sweethearts' and 'angels' always circled the air, but they were always laced with an underlying anger. Gabriel watched as (Y/N) flopped down on the bed and started channel surfing. "You should go to bed," he mumbled. "I am in bed," was the snarky reply he got. He sighed and got up, taking his champagne with him as he flopped down on the bed next to (Y/N). "Gabriel," she said absentmindedly. "Yeah?" "Tell me about your true form." "W-what?" "What do you look like behind that meat suit?" "It's not a meat suit, it's a vessel." "Whatever, same thing, human you possess that's more good looking than you are. Is it true you're junk less?" "Who said that?" "Dean," she shrugged. "Well... Yeah, we don't have dicks." "So when did you lose your angelic virginity?" Gabriel scoffed. "I'm not gonna discuss angel sex with you." "But there is such a thing?" "'Course there is. It's just more complicated." "Come ooon, tell me!" she bugged and rolled onto her side. "No, go to sleep, you've been bugging me for twenty hours straight, I'm gonna lose my shit if I keep hearing your voice." "Blah blah blah, you love my voice." "It's a freaking pain in my ass." "In your angelic ass that you can get fucked in cause angels can have sex, am I right?" "Okay, now you're just being ridiculous and not making sense. Sleep before I make you." "Fine. Goodnight, Angel." When Gabriel didn't reply, (Y/N) furrowed her eyebrows. "I said goodnight, dickbag!" "What? Oh, yeah, goodnight," he said, a little confused, but then he remembered. Saying goodnight was a big deal to the little woman. Gabriel couldn't understand the need for her to hear it back, but she always bugged him until he said it back. In a few minutes she was asleep, breathing softly. "Finally it's freaking quiet..." Gabriel groaned to himself and switched to pay per porn. --- "Wake up!" Gabriel nagged and poked (Y/N) in her side. She grumbled something under her breath and pulled her duvet tighter around her. "Come on, it's ten am, you gotta get up." "No..." "You have ten seconds before I dunk you in ice water. Ten. Nine. Eight." "Ughhh..." "Seven. Six. Five. Four. Three. Two." "Mmm'up!" she squealed and rolled over. "Good girl," Gabriel said and smacked her thigh. He wanted to smack her ass, damn he wanted to pull her over his knee and spank her until she was crying... But he settled for her thigh. A few minutes later, (Y/N) was up and getting dressed. Gabriel peeked at her cleavage in that low cut top she wore. "You wanna look more slutty?" "What's your problem, Gabriel? I'm not going anywhere, I'm stuck here in this motel room with you and I really don't give a crap what I'm wearing as long as it's comfortable. Stop being so high-maintenance. Breakfast? I want toast and Nutella." She sat down on her bed again and looked at Gabriel. "Oatmeal with skim milk it is," he said and snapped his fingers. "Gabriel, don't be such a little shit!" "Ask nicely and you might receive." "Oh thou wonderful archangel Gabriel, would thou please bless me with the breakfast of toast and Nutella?" she asked and rolled her eyes. "Absolutely, my fine little human." He snapped again and the boring oatmeal turned into toast. "Say thank you." "Thank you," she said and dug in hungrily. The way (Y/N) moaned when she sucked the Nutella off her fingers almost drove Gabriel crazy. --- "Come on, just tell me!" (Y/N) bugged for the millionth time. "I'm not telling you about angel sex!" "Is it some sort of sacred, intimate thing?" she asked with a grin as she popped another mint in her mouth. "Doesn't matter, you're too human to understand it anyway." "Well then it won't hurt to tell me, right?" "Just stop! Stop whining and nagging all the time, I'm sick of it! I'm sick of you! You're a rude and bratty little girl who can't take it when someone tells her no! You dress like a slut and parade around like you own the world!" Gabriel almost regretted his words when he saw the face (Y/N) made, but then she snapped back. "And you're an arrogant, perverted dickbag who lives off of sweets and can't stand up to your family." "Do not bring my family into this, I'm giving you one warning and one only." "You'd rather run from your problems than face them, you're a coward, Gabriel!" Gabriel stared at her for a few seconds before they both got up at the same time. (Y/N) ran for it and Gabriel ran after her. She got to the door before he grabbed her arm and slammed her against the wall. She tried to wriggle out of his grip but just then he crashed his lips against her and kissed her hard. She let out a squeal of surprise and her arms shot up into the air and against the wall. Gabriel didn't stop, he assaulted her mouth even as she didn't return it, but she didn't try to pull away either. Her lips parted slightly and Gabriel seized the opportunity to force his tongue into her mouth, licking against hers before he pulled away and looked her in the eye. (Y/N) stared at him in shock for a few seconds before that look turned into one of disgust. "I told you you're a pervert," she growled. "Shut your mouth." "Or what, hot shot?" "Or I'll make you shut it!" Just as she was about to speak again, Gabriel grabbed her hair and forced her down onto her knees. With a wave of his fingers his fly opened and he pulled his jeans and boxers down to his thighs before slapping his hard cock against (Y/N)'s lips. "Come on, take it," he growled and pushed into her mouth. She didn't object or try to pull away, so he pulled out and slammed back in, groaning loudly at the feeling. He stayed still for a moment before repeating the action. His grip on her hair tightened and she whimpered. It was the most beautiful sound Gabriel had ever heard her make. That was until he pushed deeper and she gagged around him. "Ohhh yeah, that's it. That shut you right up, didn't it? Oh I should have done this ages ago..." She made another whimpering noise before sticking her tongue out, allowing him to fuck her mouth at a rough pace. Gabriel used his grip on her hair to push her down on his cock until he was hitting the back of her throat over and over again. "Fuck yeah... You wanna be a little slut? Fine, this is what you'll get," he growled and stilled in her mouth. Her tongue reached his balls and she tickled them lightly. "That's a good slut," he said with a groan, "fuck sweetheart, this should teach you not to mouth off at me!" He thrust into her eager mouth a few more times before he let go and came hard down her throat. He let out a loud growl as she hummed appreciatively. When he pulled out, (Y/N) smiled and opened her mouth, giving him a nice view of his cum on her tongue. She played around with it for a while, making a bubble, swirling it around her tongue, getting it on her lips, and fuck if it wasn't the hottest thing Gabriel had ever seen. She swallowed, and that's when he grabbed her hair again and his dick with the other hand. "What are you..." she started. Gabriel jerked himself off about half a dozen times before he came again and shot a smaller load all over her face. This time she didn't smile; she shut her eyes and growled, but again, she didn't try to pull away. Gabriel pulled his jeans and boxers up again and smiled. "You ass," (Y/N) cursed and wiped her face with her hand. "That did the trick, huh? No more mouthing off from you."

“I'm sorry, do I know you?” you frowned, your eyes staying glued to his for a reason you couldn't describe with words.
However your words weren't the ones he wanted to hear, if anything it was probably the worst ones he could hear considering the circumstances. His lips formed a line as he clenched his jaw and straightened his back, his eyes still holding that glossy feature though. You knew that look very well, Dean had had that expression before himself, he was hurt, undeniably so, but didn't want anyone to know.
“No” his voice was more gruff than you'd expect “No, I'm sorry. I was the one mistaken. We'll just-”
“No!” you breathed out so fast you surprised not only yourself, but certainly Dean and the man you were looking at “Wait, you're... you're right. I am (Y/n), (Y/n) (Y/l/n). Isn't that what you meant?”
“I-” he blinked for a second, as if his guards were coming down, but he managed to regain his strength and shook his head with a deep frown “No, no I didn't.” he said in an almost robotic and totally nowhere near convincing way “Thank you for your help but we need to leave now.” he addressed mostly the boys.
“What? No you can't just-” you started but as you took a step closer to them your feet felt wobbly and trembled.
Before you could collapse, though, Dean was instantly by your side and holding you protectively to him “Are you ok?” he asked in a gruff voice and yet you still found yourself looking from his concerned face to Steve's who had an identical one on.
“I will be.” you forced out, willing yourself to stand straight and pushing Dean slightly away and looked Steve straight in the eyes again “Once you tell me how you know me.”
His eyes hardened instantly and his blue eyes went from worried to cold and almost hostile, as if he wanted to protect himself from you “I don't.” he said matter-of-factly before turning to leave.
But he only took two steps away before the woman of their group spoke up “How are you here?”
Your eyes instantly fell on her, noticing her red eyes, but thankful because it made the blue-eyed man stop in his steps “Wh-what?” you blinked “What does that mean?”
“Natasha” he sighed heavily, not looking at her but he closed his eyes for a second.
She only pursed her lips stubbornly and yet angrily “Don't you wanna know how this is even possible?”
“I know enough.” he turned to glare at her “She-” he pointed at you before turning to look at you and let his hand fall “Is not (Y/n). Not my... our (Y/n). And we don't need to bother them anymore, we have a job to do and I'm sure so do they. We're going, now.” his voice was commanding, making you wonder for a second what his place was.
“Well I'm not.” she countered back, making him clench his fists and lower his head with closed eyes. There was something at the action that made it look familiar.
“Nat” Sam gave her a warning look but she shook her head before her eyes focused back on you.
“What do you remember of us? Anything, doesn't have to be names, even an image. A shape, scene or- or even a color. Something, a place maybe? What the last thing you remember? Do you... know about what is out there? As in universes. Is there something that could-” she seemed like a calm and collected woman, but when she spoke to you, you could see a desperation that made your heart ache. As if something terrible had happened.
“I'm- I don't-” you blinked, your vision getting more blurry and your head aching even more as the time passed. Your hands started to shake and Dean instantly took notice of it. He knew that with your dreams you've been really on edge lately, and it was more than clear that these people – especially Steve – were making things much worse for you.
“Alright, enough.” Dean's voice barked, rough enough to scare even the most dangerous monsters, so you wouldn't be surprised if – especially with his height – he could seem rather intimidating “I've had enough of the questioning, and she's certainly unable to take any more of it.” he stood in front of you protectively.
“We- we don't want to cause any trouble.” Sam rushed to tell him, trying to calm him down, but unlike him Steve only seemed to take a challenging step forward, without even realizing it.
“We know, we know that.” your Sam stepped forward as well with a polite smile “What my brother- uh Dean, and I'm Sam and this Jack.” he introduced them to make things a little less tense “And you apparently know (Y/n)... somehow.” he cleared his throat “What Dean is trying to say is that, we don't know what you're talking about and we would like to help but as you see we are in no place to provide information right now.”
“And we certainly don't want to.” Dean didn't miss a second to say harshly, green eyes burning with a fire you had seen before, earning a look of exasperation from his brother.
“Look, we're only trying to figure out what's going on here. We only want to-” Sam started explaining but the older Winchester wouldn't have any of it.
“So are we.” he growled “But you're bombarding a girl with questions she can barely comprehend while throwing accusations right after we just saved your asses. Anyone would lose their temper and trust me, I ain't in the best mood today. Frankly she doesn't have to answer jack, so we're doing you a favor by giving you any of these info. Be thankful we're letting you go without any trouble, cause otherwise-”
“Otherwise what?” it was Steve's turn to speak back defensively, taking a step forward even if Dean was taller “What will you do?” he asked “I'll tell you. Not much.”
“And you think you will?” Dean raised an eyebrow as Steve didn't say anything but only pursed his lips and shrugged.
“Bring it on, Captain.” the older Winchester said with a dangerous smirk.
“Oh I'm really starting to want you to make me.” he narrowed his eyes.
“Trust me, I sure-” Dean started but the younger Winchester stepped in before they could do anything.
“Alright, no. No! We're taking it too far here, ok?” he pushed his brother back “We're all on the same side here, there is no need for all this.”
“Doesn't seem much like it.” Dean growled “But since you like questions, then why don't you answer one instead.” he looked back at them “How the hell do you know (Y/n)?”
“We don't.” Steve was fast to snap back, beating Natasha at whatever she was ready to say “We don't know her. I told you I was wrong.”
“Well, ain't that convincing.” Dean rolled his eyes, but you took hold of his hand to stop him before he took a dangerous step closer to him “Do you expect me to believe you? Buddy, I've been in heaven and hell, heck even Purgatory, I know how to get the answer out of you. Do you think there's anything that can stop me?”
“I would like to see you try.” Steve said in a calm voice but with a hint of bitterness and pain behind it, as if he'd gone through it before.
Dean was ready to speak, the soft dark laugh that left his lips meaning that it wasn't going to be something nice, but you stepped in before he could say a word “Alright, I think this is enough.” you gave him a look, placing a hand on his chest “Stop it, I'm alright.”
“(Y/n)'s-” Sam, Wilson, started but paused for a moment as if saying your name was hard for him “She's right. You have a wounded child here, that needs to be seen immediately or else it will be very dangerous.”
“Oh I'm- I'm alright. It's for most part healed up.” Jack spoke up tentatively, no longer leaning on Sam for support, a nervous smile on his lips.
“This fast?” Sam's eyebrows rose but a frown, almost suspicious, formed on Natasha's face.
“He's half angel. He can heal faster than normal.” you spoke up, and that was all it took for their eyes to widen in realization. Why, you couldn't understand.
“Angel?” Sam blinked.
“Angels... exist here?” Natasha asked in a barely audible voice and you gave her a nod. That was all she needed to look at Steve, much like Sam, both with wide eyes but in understanding.
The blonde man instantly looked back at you with wide eyes, like the first time he saw you a couple minutes ago, but he soon masked it all by shaking his head. His eyes went cold again and he clenched his jaw before he said a rough “No.”
“But Steve-” Natasha started but he wouldn't listen.
“We're leaving.” he said over his shoulder, turning his back to you to leave. It seemed as if he was only forcing himself to believe this, what you couldn't understand exactly, because he couldn't let his hopes get up only for him to bedisappointed in the end. You could understand that very well, you'd done that many times before.
“Cap” this time Sam also defended her but he wouldn't budge.
“I said now.” he ordered “Or else I'm leaving without.” he added but you could see that he wasn't the kind of guy to leave his team behind, just as he wasn't one to use authority this way. He was hurt, it was evident (at least to you), but as much as you wished you could stop this, you too needed answers.
“No” you said surprisingly firmly, despite how your entire body just seemed to want to shut down “No, you're not leaving. Not before I get answers. You know me, you know things about me that I don't even know, and we both know it. Stop denying it and tell me how. I have the right to know how.” but he wasn't set on listening to you, more like avoiding you
“Steve!” you only managed to catch up with him when at the call of his name he froze in his place. You didn't know if it was something in the way you said it, the way you called out to him, but it did the trick. You stood now only a couple inches away from him and thankfully he, although very slowly and hesitantly as if it pained him, turned to look at you. The moment your eyes locked, though, you couldn't help but feel the words die in your lips and the air get knocked out of your lungs. You gaped at him as for a moment you got a flash of those eyes gazing warmly at you with a morning light cascading over them.
You shook your head, taking a deep breath and speaking more softly “Please, I need you to be honest with me.” you met his eyes again “Do I know you?”
This time he really hesitated, his lips parting but no words came out for a minute before he finally stilled himself and shook his head, uttering a rough “No. No you don't.”
It seemed like he was struggling to say the words, because you both knew they weren't true, and just as he turned to leave again you couldn't help yourself. You instinctively reached out of him, but the second you took hold of his arm you both froze in your place and all words died out in your lips again. This time for good. His head snapped in your direction, the both of you feelings the shivers run down your spine at the skin contact. It was just in time to see your eyes glow a familiar blue that made his heart rate pick up before they fluttered closed and your hold on him loosened significantly. He was fast to react and catch you before your body hit the cold ground.
And as far as you were concerned, the only thing you registered was the sharp headache that made a scream rip through your lips and, before darkness enveloped you, a voice frantically calling out your name. Or was it two?
~*~
The first thing you actually registered was the warm morning light shining through the curtains. You could actually feel the rays of the sun washing over your exposed skin and warming you to the core. An uncharacteristic sense of bliss had set deep within you and you didn't even want to fight the smile off your lips. The image was blurry before you but you couldn't mistake the white new bedsheets, or soft grey and earthy tones of the furniture around you or even more the soft cream color of the skin of a bare chest and arms of a man beside you, a color that stood out even more as it was beautifully bathed in the morning glow. Your fingers danced over the warm cream color, almost in feather-like touches but still enough for you to feel the smoothness and softness of it.
“What are you thinking?” the slightly husky voice and a soft squeeze on your arm caught your attention. As the man's hand trailed up your bare arm, your eyes trailed up his body as well, until in between all the soft cream or pinkish colors you were able to detect blue. And oh it was the most beautiful blue you'd ever seen in your life.
You blinked only a couple times and the view was much more clear this time. Instead of frowning, your smile only got bigger as you brought your hand up to cup his cheek that was free of the smallest hint of a scruff, much less beard. It was indeed him, though, despite the differences and even more the calm and seemingly so young expression on his face. And he was gazing at you in such bliss, despite the hazy eyes, and such love it made your heart burst.
“Oh nothing in specific.” you licked your lips, looking up to meet his eyes and see a playfulness and sparkle of happiness in them that made your heart flutter inside your chest.
“Oh really?” he raised an eyebrow and a giggle escaped your lips. It was so effortless an so genuine, heartfelt and easy going as if everything was simply perfect.
“Well, in fact-” you snuggled closer to his side “I actually had a dream. About you.” you rubbed your thumb over his cheek.
“Dream or vision?” there was a hint of concern in his voice but you reassured him with a small shake of your head.
“Dream. At least I think, I haven't been getting any visions for months now.” you shrugged “Anyway, you wanna know what I saw?”
“What?” he grinned sleepily.
“You with a beard and damn you looked good, Rogers!” you emphasized with a grin.
“I highly doubt that, darling.” he only laughed “A beard wouldn't look anywhere near good on me.”
“Why not? You haven't tried it!” you whined softly “Come on, give it a go. And maybe-” you bit your lip, trailing your hand up to run your fingers through his hair “Let your hair grow too. You could keep it pushed back, no problem with that. I bet it would be so soft, great to run my fingers through to calm you down or to, you know-” you shrugged with a smirk “To pull at when you slam into me, hm?” you offered as innocently as you could, but your words were far from that.
“(Y/n)” he dragged your name, chuckling softly and almost in embarrassment, before burying his face in the crook of your neck.
“Just think about it.” you begged softly “Come on, for me? Please?”
“It's not practical and you know it.”
“You say that cause we haven't tried it yet. You knows, maybe you'll just end up liking it... get a kink out of it, who knows?” you bit your lip but squeaked and giggled when his fingers skipped through your sides and he tickled you.
“You're set on it, aren't you?” you could feel the grin against your skin.
“Baby, I just saw you in a beard, looking gorgeous as all hell; pretty rough around the edges and gosh do I love it! Not to mention how bad I'd like to know how that would feel. So nope, I can't forget it any easily and frankly I don't want to, so if I have to I'm gonna hide every razor you have in here to make you grow a beard.”
“Alright, I'll tell you, one day maybe I will consider it. But only when I'm gonna be in dire need of it,and at the moment I'm not.” his tone was very soft and calm, but it still showed you that he had his mind made and wouldn't budge. Not that you always didn't love him sticking up for his opinion, but sometimes it could be frustrating.
“There will come a day, mark my words. And will I eagerly look forward to it.” you said before pulling slightly away to look into his eyes “But until then, I'm definitely going to take advantage of my sweetheart Steve.”
“And what Steve will the other one be? The one with the beard.” he asked with a small smile.
“Hmh” you thought for a moment, before throwing a leg over his waist and pressed your naked body flush against his, making his pupils dilate and his eyes widen but a grin to spread on his lips nonetheless, before you said “He'd be daddy Steve. Definitely daddy Steve.”
You smiled widely when you got a low moan from him and felt his one hand on your hip squeeze tightly as the other ran up your back, before he whispered in a gruff voice “Oh yeah?”
“Yeah” you breathed out, before you closed the remaining space between the two of you – which only was a couple inchesanyway – by leaning down to capture his lips with yours.
However the feeling didn't even record as everything around you got consumed by darkness and his body seemed to slip through your fingers like ashes. You caught yourself laying on your back, unable to see anything and with your eyelids feeling heavy. You didn't know what would happen next, you didn't know what your mind would throw at you after this. This was the first time a dream of yours had a whole conversation play out quite normally, instead of the usual blurry and messy images or words you got here and there, which all just mixed together.
But when you realized you were actually already awake you felt relief wash over you. You didn't know if you could take another mess of dreams, especially now. Not that even that one dream wasn't suspicious and worrying anyway. You took a deep breath in as you heard shuffling from next to you. No matter how heavy your eyelids felt, you forced yourself to open your eyes. There was too much going to just sleep through it.
“Hey” Dean's rough yet gentle voice caught your attention when you first opened your eyes.
“Hey” you said sleepily, blinking several times until you realized you were in your room in the bunker.
“How you feelin'?” he asked as softly as he could and you smiled at his concern and care.
“I think fairly well. Certainly better than before.” and it was true, even though you had already forgotten a good half of the dream, as much as you tried to remember nothing came back and with each passing second you forgot more. It was as if your body was trying to heal a wound that kept reopening in different kind of ways.
You decided to focus back on Dean only to see he was nowhere near happy or pleased “What's up doc? You look worried.”
“Shouldn't I be?” he clenched his jaw “You just passed out, and you were out for some time.” he pursed his lips, as he rested his elbows on his knees and you turned on your side so you could have a better look at him.
“Yes, but I mean-” you shrugged softly “It's not such a big deal. I've faced worse.” you tried to reassure him, your own heart aching to see him so exhausted on that tiny and surely uncomfortable chair.
“No big deal? You're saying this like you've passed out before-” he paused before his eyes hardened and a frown set on his face “You haven't passed out before like this, have you (Y/n)?”
“No, Dean.” you sighed, well it was half the truth at least because there had not been such a strong headache “No I haven't. Now come on, please, stop worrying so much about me.” you let a small sigh, although you could see he wasn't convinced, you got up in a sitting position and patted the space next to you “Come here.”
You didn't even have to try to persuade him, because with a sigh of defeat he got up from his chair and came to sit next to. He wrapped an arm around your shoulders as you snuggled on his side and rested your head on his shoulder, appreaciating his warmth and the comfort hebrought to you. You looked up at him shift his clenched jaw and sighed heavily.
“It's not your fault, you know, and there isn't really anything you could have done to prevent it.” you whispered softly, his eyes instantly falling on you.
“I know... or at least I try to.” he looked down at your hand as he took them in his “I just feel like there is something I should do but I can't figure it out and I just-” he clicked his tongue on his teeth in disapproval “I keep failing you.”
“Don't say that, please.” you choked on a sob, closing your eyes shut tightly. Here he was, taking the blame for something he had no power of and wanting nothing more than to help you out, and you'd still kept so many secrets about it from him “It's not your fault.” you tried to say as steadily and firmly as you could.
He still shook his head stubbornly “And with them-” he scoffed a laugh before saying in a gruff voice “Him, here and making accusations and questions- They are responsible for things getting so bad and Sam and Jack wanted to- son of a bitch.” he growled, earning a frown from you.
“What about Sam and Jack?”
“They're here.” he said in a rough voice before explaining “Sam and Jack thought it would be a good thing to bring them here, all three of them, in the fucking bunker with us.”
“Wh-what?!” you gasped, your eyes going wide as you pulled away from to look into his eyes.
He turned to look at you, jaw clenched but also another feeling you couldn't quite describe there, maybe more directed at the blue-eyed man though “They said they'd give answers. The woman, uh Natasha, at least said she would. The others weren't much in for it, at least Captain douchebag wasn't.” he grumbled “She wanted the most to be here, to figure out what was going on and Sam and Jack were with her on that.”
“Nat seemed like a really good woman, though.” you said softly with a small smile and he sighed.
“Yeah, I guess.” he rested his head on top of yours “I wouldn't mind that much if it was only her, Sam maybe too. They asked questions but they weren't like-” he stopped for a moment.
You couldn't help but smirk and ask softly “Steve?” noticing the his eyes hardened again “You don't like him, do you?”
“If it was up to me, that Star-spangled asshole wouldn't come anywhere near you ever again.” he pursed his lips “He’s responsible for this, he’s-” he scoffed, shaking his head.
“Yet you let him in here.” you noted, playing with his fingers to calm him down, almost lacing yours with his. You smiled, knowing he did it because he was more concerned about finding a way to help you and he no wonder believed they were the key to it.
“Yes, well, I was outnumbered.” he defended himself and you grinned.
“Uh not really. You were 3 to 3.” you noted and he rolled his eyes but still managed to smile.
“I see you're good enough to outsass me too. Sam, Wilson, was more with Nat's side. It seemed like only Rogers and I didn't wanna be under the same roof. Couldn't avoid it, though.” he leaned in to kiss your forehead and let a sigh of relief “Good, that's good.” he breathed out as you looked up at him with a frown, so he explained “You were burning, before. Your temperature was really high.”
“Was I maybe-” but before you could get the chance to complete your sentence, there was a knock on the door “Yes” you said and it opened to reveal the nephilim with a worried expression on his face “Hey Jack” you breathed out as he stepped in.
“Hello. I just wanted to come and see how you are.” he said with a soft smile and you returned it.
“Alright-” Dean cleared his throat “I'll leave ya two kids alone and go check up on them. Not in the mood for any surprises.” he kissed the top of your head before letting go of you and getting up. He gave a small smile to Jack and a pat on the shoulder, as if to tell him to keep an eye out for you, before he left and closed the door behind you.
“Are you feeling better?” Jack asked gently, taking a seat on the chair closest to your bed.
You smiled, nodding your head “Yeah uh I'm- I'm better now.” you looked down at your hands, nervous for a second before you asked “H-hey Jack, uh do you remember back when you started talking ab-about Captain America and what you'd found out about him?”
“Steve Rogers, yes.” he nodded his head and you tried to swallow over the lump that formed in your throat at the mention of his name.
“Yes uh Steve.” you took a deep breath, looking at him “Do you think you could... tell me more about him now? Everything you've found out? I'd really like that.”
~*~
“So, hunters huh?” it was Sam's, Wilson's, voice that was the first thing you heard as you made your way to the map room “And you grew up into this?”
“Wasn't easy but, yeah, that's our life.” your Sam said calmly, trying to make a normal conversation as much as he could “From vampires, to werewolves and to demons. Pretty much anything that goes bump in the night.”
“And angels?” it was Natasha's voice, an interest in it that you couldn't understand.
“We don't normally hunt those.” you spoke up in a soft voice, finally entering the room, gaining all of their attention “There are many left anyway, but when they stay out of our business we don't go picking up a fight. We only hunt monsters that hurt people, you know, to save as many innocent lives as we can.”
“We?” she raised an eyebrow and you shrugged softly, making her nod her head and look down with a frown “You're a hunter too.” she muttered. Moments like this you really wanted to know what could be going through her head, but you were more interested in other things and people – namely one man – to question her.
“How's your leg?” you asked gently, and she offered you a small albeit sad smile that was barely visible.
“All in place, thanks to Jack. Thank you.” she said and you gave her a nod, chewing nervously on your lower lip. You wanted so bad to just utter the question but you didn't even know how to form the proper words so instead you looked around nervously and despite how subtle you tried to be, she picked up on it, and with a small nod of her head in his direction you were able to spot the blue-eyed man. Much to your dismay he was looking at the books and old weapons you had in the bunker and not paying any attention to you, so you only faced his broad back. Whether he was so taken by everything around him or he did it on purpose so that he wouldn't have to face you, you didn't know, but you knew very well it made your heart ache.
“And-” Sam Wilson cleared his throat when a very heavy silence set in the room and nobody dared utter a word. Dean was all-too-focused on his beer, Sam looked awkward but in deep thought, even Natasha had her eyes casted down and Steve... well, he was more of a statue than human “Does it always involve such paperwork or are you just big literature fans?”
“No uh it does, sometimes.” you decided to speak up, moving to sit between him and Dean “Research is not fun for sure. You can ask Dean all about it, he'll surely tell you about how every bad hunt experience revolves around it.” you glanced at him to see his eyes had not left the drink but a small smirk tugged at his lips, and you welcomed his hand when it took hold of yours while missing how Sam noticed it with a deep frown “Anyway, uhm we didn't gather all this, though. This place was built long long ago, it belongs to a secret organization. It was passed down to us from our ancestors, they also got involved with the supernatural and all. They were the Men of Letters.”
And those three last words were enough to make their interest peak once more. Natasha's head snapped up and her eyes widened and a smile slowly started spreading on her lips as if it was some proof “Men of Letters?” she asked as you nodded with a frown and her head snapped in the soldier's direction “Steve... Steve once met a Man of letters.”
Your eyes instantly fell on him, you noticed his body had gone rigid and you actually held your breath as you waited for him to either speak or turn, and he did both “Once” he walked towards a chair, resting his weight on it as his eyes stayed focused on the ground and his jaw was clenched “It was way back in the days, during World War II. Doesn't mean anything.” he looked up, his eyes meeting yours but they were nowhere near warm or innocent as what you could remember from your dream.
“So that means what Jack found was correct.” Sam breathed out, his eyes going wide as a small laugh left his lips “A man of letters did travel to your universe and he- Wait, then how can you be here if you belong in a different dimension? You're- Traveling between realities is not easy and it would require the grace of an Archangel to-”
“Alright, what's the point of this?” it was Dean that snapped “We said we'd give answers, not chit chat like girlfriends in a freaking slumber party. And so far all I hear is stories of the past that I'm still not willing to believe.”
“What's your problem anyway?” it was Steve that snapped back at him surprising everyone in the room because of how isolated he had previously been “You only demand answers but are nowhere near willing to listen. Do you think playing tough is going to intimidate us into just giving you what you want from us? Each one of us has seen more horror than you can ever imagine.”
“Oh you have no idea how much horror can really be out there, trust me, buddy. Besides, I wouldn't have any problem or trouble getting it out of you.” the moment the older Winchester got up from his seat you jumped as well with wide eyes.
“Dean” you whispered but he was too busy glaring daggers at Steve.
“What do you wanna know so bad anyway? You can see we're just as clueless as you on this!” he motioned to his friends.
“Doesn't seem much like it to me and I got way better things to do.” Dean muttered “And I want to know why the hell did she pass out the freaking second she touched you! That's what I want to know.”
“Dean, enough!” you said louder this time but still calmly, taking hold of his hand again and placing the other on his chest as you stood in front of him “Enough. Please... for me.” he kept his eyes on Steve for only a few more second before they lowered to meet yours and he finally took a step back.
You missed the way Steve's eyes widen or filled with pain but he was fast to cover it up, clearing his throat “We had better things to do, too. Millions of people's lives depend on it, we're not here just for fun. We were on a mission, we shouldn't even be thinking of wasting time.”
“Then there's the freakin' door.” he glared at him one last time before looking away from him.
“Dean” Natasha spoke as calmly as she could “I assure you, we're not here to waste yours or our time for that matter. Because we don't have any to begin with. We're only trying to figure out something that could possibly change our lives, that's all. And-” she sighed softly before looking at Sam “Yes, I know it is hard to travel between realities. But things do become a little easier when you have an Infinity Stone in your hands that can take you wherever you want, the Space Stone.”
“Space stone?” the younger Winchester frowned, looking at you but before he could ask more, Jack came rushing in after the phone call you'd told him to make to and check up with Mary and Castiel.
“They found it, I just talked with Castiel!” he said, gaining your attention “Orangle glowing stone and an old abandoned airport that smells of sulfur. It's demons for sure!”
“Orange glowing stone?” Wilson muttered as they all looked shared a look.
“Is that why were at the station?”
Natasha asked you at the same time Steve breathed out “The soul stone.” and made your eyes widen “We need to go get it, now!”
“Wait- wait you were looking for it too?” Sam blinked, making him pause in his steps.
“Too?” his eyes moved from Sam to you, with an expression you couldn't read this time.
“Wait-” Jack spoke up, a grin slowly spreading on his lips as he couldn't help but say, in excitement and with obviously a lot of optimism, something that only made every hint of relief vanish from Dean's face and a heavy sigh leave his lips and mutter “Damn it.”
“Does that mean we are going to team up?”

Weary Crown
Tumblr media
Summary: Dean is spiraling from the Mark of Cain on his arm and a major loss. When he gets an unexpected visitor, he is forced to face the reality that is in front of him. Characters: MOC!Dean Winchester, Reader Pairing: Dean x Reader Warnings: Angst Word Count: 1681 Song Lyrics (BOLD): Weary Man – Jason Manns A/N #1: This is for @mrswhozeewhatsis Jason Manns FanFic Project A/N #2: I picked this song because after listening to while reading the lyrics I instantly thought of Dean with The Mark. I just really felt this song was a perfect description of how The Mark was wearing on him. A/N # 3: As always this is unbeta so all mistakes are mine. Likes, comments and reblogs are splendid and I will love you doubly for them! Enjoy!
Dean Winchester looked up into his own reflection in mirror. His image morphing into the people of those he had loss or hurt. People he loved and cared for, people he promised to protect and failed. He could feel his anger burning throughout his veins bubbling until he finally snapped. The pain of glass slicing his knuckles as he punched the mirror was a welcomed sensation.
That did not satisfy his anger enough. Turning around the motel room a constant reminder of a cursed life he had been living his entire life. He began throwing any object near him against the floor or wall. His large foot kicking anything in his way until finally he could feel his anger subsiding.
“Heavy as the head where's the crown. Won't you sit on the throne you never want to come down. Hand that reigns well its filled with the scepter there's no room left for the compass he kept there.” Dean turned around upon hearing the familiar voice.
“(Y/N)… but how?” he asked stunned to see her standing before him. She looked just as she had the last time he had seen her. Her beautiful (Y/C/H) hair tied back the soft strands cascading down her back. Her (Y/C/E) eyes vibrant just as he remembered.
A soft smile spread across her lips, “It doesn’t matter. What matters is what is going on with you, Dean.”
He pursed his lips together feeling The Mark burning on his arm, “You know what is going on with me.” He said through gritted teeth.
“And the gypsy whispers secrets to the queen as the joker steals his bread unseen. A befuddled king is no king at all. He's just weary, a weary man with the farthest to fall.” She said walking over the debris of broken motel items.
Dean looked at her confused, “What does that mean?”
She shrugged slightly, “It means the ones who love you the most are trying to save you behind your back while you are here throwing a temper tantrum.”
Her bluntness made him chuckle, “There is no saving me, (Y/N). Anyone close to me gets hurt or worse you of all people know that best.”
“Kingdoms come, and they will go. Every reign ends. Every king knows the common man he may have his go. No but wisdom it's free it can't be worked or sold.” (Y/N) walked closer to him as he stepped back away from her. “Dean, you can’t hurt me.”
His jaw clenched, “Better safe than sorry. I’m poison, and you know it.”
(Y/N) shook her head, “A befuddled king is no king at all. He's just weary, a weary man with the farthest to fall. And you know somewhere down inside that his power well it's made him blind. Only he don't cover his eyes, but he has to fall, fall or he'll rise.”
She placed her cold hand against his cheek and he took in a shaky breath. Feeling her touch again nearly broke him and he leaned his face into her hand even further. “How? How do I rise above all the pain I have cause?”
“You know how Dean. You’ve been thinking about it since you walked through that motel door.” He looked up at her a sense of comforting washing over him.
He nodded stepping back from her and closing his eyes. As suddenly as she had appeared she was gone leaving the familiar emptiness within his heart. He wrote down a simply note to Sam leaving Baby’s keys along with it. Stealing the nearest car, Dean drove off heading towards what he knew was the only right thing to do.
Cooking all the foods he knew his guest would love, he summoned the one being in all the universe that could make everything right. When Death appeared, he knew there was absolutely no going back. “You know I do not like to be summoned.”
“I know, but look I made all your favorites with extra grease and cheese.” Dean present the tray of delicious Mexican food.
Death took a bite of a taquito, “That is quite tasty but get to the real reason why you have me sitting in an abandon Mexican restaurant.
Dean swallowed hard, “I want you to kill me. This mark on my arm is turning me into some thing that I don’t want to be. The world is safer with me being dead as long as this mark dies with me.”
He looked to Death who was eyeing the homemade tortilla chips and queso, “I can not do that.” He said simply.
“Exactly, why not? Because I’m important or something.” Dean scoffed.
“I could care less if you live or die, Dean. However, that Mark is the only thing keeping an evil for worst than anything this world had ever seen locked away. If you die, it dies and unleashes the Darkness. I cannot allow that to happen.” Death explained as he took a bite of one of the chips.
Dean shook his head, “Then take it away. I-I’m not strong enough to bare it. I will murder the world and thats not exactly go for the universe either.”
Death sighed annoyed, “I cannot do that either, but I do have a solution that would work. However, it will require a sacrifice from you.”
“I’m listening.” He said as Death walked over sitting on one of the bar stools.
“I can take you off this world and place you on another one where you would be the only living soul on it. Eternity alone with The Mark.” Death looked almost amused as he spoke.
Dean shrugged, “Deal.”
He watched as Death rolled his eyes, “That is not all. Your brother will do anything in his power to save you. We cannot have that, so you will have to sacrifice him.”
“Meaning what exactly?” Dean asked.
“Meaning if you want a one way trip to the Island of Dean then you must first kill your brother right here, right now.” He looked to Death seeing no hint of sarcasm or joking.
Dean pulled out his phone hitting Sam’s number, “Sammy I tried.” He began to say as Sam pleaded with him to not do anything stupid. “It’s over Sam. It’s time to say goodbye. I’m texting you my location.”
He quickly hung up before Sam could say anything. Within a couple of hours, Sam arrived stunned to see Dean along with Death. “Dean, whatever you’re thinking of doing, don’t.”
He shook his head then began to explain what Death’s plan was causing Sam to overreact. Even after Death explained why having The Mark was important, his brother still could not understand this was the right thing to do.
“Sammy, just stop it’s over. Even (Y/N) told me this was what I needed to do.” He said.
Sam looked at him like he was the crazy one. “Dean, I know (Y/N) would never want to this for you. She would want you to keep living and fighting. She fought for you all the way until her dying breath. Now you’re just giving up!”
That is when Sam’s fist connected with Dean’s cheek rattling him at first. He shook his head, “This is good. Get it all out while we can.”
For the next several minutes, the two brothers fought one another getting out all their aggression. Until finally, Sam got to his knees in defeat, “Fine Dean. You win.”
“Here Dean, you can use this.” Death handed him his scythe as Dean faced his little brother.
Sam pulled out a few pictures laying them on the ground in front of Dean, “Wherever you go take these with you. Remember, who you were and those who fought for you.”
The pictures were of his dad, mom, him and Sam as a baby. Another one was him and his mom together right before she died. Then one of Cas, Sam and him drinking in the library. The final one made Dean’s heart fall to the pit of his stomach.
It was of him and (Y/N). He was leaning against Baby with his arms wrapped around (Y/N)’s waist holding her close. She was laughing leaning her head back against his shoulder. It was taken before he had The Mark and before the nightmare that was his life now had begun.
“Do it, Dean. You know you have too.” Death said behind him.
“Close your eyes Sammy.” He whispered as Sam closed his eyes slowly.
Dean held the scythe up ready to swing it and as he brought it down towards Sam’s body he heard a voice call out his name, “DEAN!” He swung upward missing Sam and driving the scythe right into Death’s body.
Death disintegrated into dust before him and he looked around catching the faints glimpse of (Y/N) fading away behind Death’s pile of dust. He dropped the scythe turning back to Sam and helping him up. “W-What just happened?” he asked.
“I think I killed Death.” Dean said looking up into his brother’s bewildered hazel eyes.
Suddenly, a red lightning bolt came through the roof of the building striking Dean’s arm. It felt as of The Mark was on fire and then as quickly as it came the bolt lifted from his arm taking The Mark with it. Relief filled Dean’s entire body.
“Dean!” Sam yelled out running over to him as he looked down at his arm.
“I’m fine… I’m fine.” He said surprised looking up at Sam.
As they walked outside, Sam handed him the keys to Baby. “Look the Mark is gone, you get your Baby back and nothing else happened.”
“Oh yeah, I’m sure it’s all rainbows and strippers from here on out.” Dean said just as the ground began to shake.
Black smoke started shooting out from the ground in various spots around them. Sam and Dean both looked up to the sky as a black cloud formed above them.
“What did Death call this?” Sam asked.
Dean watched as the cloud fell back down to the ground quickly making its way towards them, “The Darkness.”

PET SEMATARY (2019) REVIEW
Tumblr media
SPOILER WARNING! This review contains spoilers for Pet Sematary (2019), Pet Sematary (1989) and the novel.
I’ll admit straight out of the gate that I went into Pet Sematary (2019) with a negative attitude. For whatever reason (one that I am still struggling to comprehend) the studio decided not only to make a rather large divergence from the source material’s plot, but to also spoil this “twist” in the trailer and promotional material. That alone was enough to convince me that this remake/reboot/reimagining/whatever the fuck you want to call it probably wasn’t going to win me over. So let’s discuss that first and foremost.
I am not at all opposed to film adaptations making changes. Case in point, 2017’s new IT. IT and it’s miniseries predecessor are among some of my favorite horror films of all time, despite the fact that they were not 100% faithful to the novel, especially the more recent installment. For me changes are totally fine as long as they a.) maintain the spirit, themes, and tone of the original story and b.) make the film more frightening.
With those rules in mind the change prominently displayed in the trailer for 2019’s Pet Sematary, the fact the Creed’s eldest child Ellie is the one who is killed and brought back from the dead instead of toddler Gage, already failed at rule b. Don’t get me wrong, any reanimated evil corpse is going to be scary, but why on earth would you deny us an evil murderous baby just to give us yet another creepy little girl. The ‘creepy little girl’ trope in horror is so tired and overused it makes my head hurt. The Ring, Orphan, The Exorcist, Silent Hill, The Shining, Alice Sweet Alice, The Bad Seed, Let the Right One In, Hereditary, Sinister, I could go on and on and on. The use of the trope isn’t inherently terrible, but why would you go out of your way to use it when something less used and much scarier (a straight up homicidal TODDLER) is an option? The simplest and most likely reason, in my opinion, was for convenience. Is directing a 2 year old more difficult to direct than an 11 year old? Yes, of course, obviously. But it’s definitely possible, as Mary Lambert proved while directing Miko Hughes as Gage in 1989. (Honestly, to this day I can not believe the performance she got out of that little boy.) So to me the change is not only a disservice to the film, but also an indication that the filmmakers were unabashedly lazy.
So now that you know why I had set myself up for disappointment to begin with, let’s break down what the film succeeded at and how it failed.
Whatever problems I have with the film, at least I can say that I loved the cast. John Lithgow was extremely endearing and likable. His performance as Jud was a refreshingly grounded and heartfelt departure from Fred Gwynne’s high camp in ‘89. Jason Clarke was as engrossing as ever. I always enjoy Clarke’s performances, and he often brings extra depth to characters that would have otherwise fallen flat (Dr. Price in ‘Winchester’ being a prime example). And Jete Laurance was nothing short of incredible. You would never expect that this little girl could transform into something to sinister so effortlessly. Her performance in the first half of the film is filled with such sweet sincerity, that her turn into undead Ellie is all the more frightening. Not as frightening as being terrorized by a little ankle biting toddler, mind you, but enjoyable nonetheless. ESPECIALLY compared to Ellie in the 89 film. Do you remember her? My God, she was so annoying.
Speaking of annoying, Amy Seimetz as Rachel was the only weak link in the cast. Instead of being deeply troubled and complex as Stephen King wrote her, Seimetz’s Rachel is so one dimensional that by the third or fourth time we see her crying, I wasn’t just unmoved, I was borderline irritated. ‘The weepy mother’ role in horror films are never especially fulfilling, but in this instance Rachel was meant to be much more than that. And the cheapening of the Zelda subplot doesn’t help matters either.
To me Zelda, Rachel’s late sister who suffered from spinal meningitis, was hands down the scariest part of the book and original film, so I was extra disappointed here. I’m fully aware that the character of Zelda is extremely problematic and portraying her as a monster is ableist as fuck. (Let’s be real, 99% of all Stephen King’s works are problematic but if we pull on that thread we’ll be here all day.) But the in the new film she is completely under utilized. Her appearances have been shrunk down to generic Conjuring-like jumpscares. Like most horror movies these days, the film relies on quick cuts, loud bangs, and obnoxious music cues to startle us instead of showing us anything particularly alarming. There is one prolonged sequence of incredible suspense, as Louis slowly walks through his basement in search of his daughters reanimated corpse, that filled me with so much dread that I was finally genuinely scared. Alas, *sad trombone*, it was undercut with a cheap jumpscare just like all the rest.
On top of uninspired jumpscares, the filmmaking as a whole was ‘meh’ at best, especially the production design. The houses nearly hidden among the picturesque dense woods are definitely more visually interesting than the ones presented to us in ‘89. It also makes the danger of the nearby highway much more palpable, with the road being both closer to the house and more believably prone to accidents, with the thick foliage hindering the drivers’ ability to see. And the ‘pet sematary’ itself is serviceable enough, not much different from what we’ve seen before. But once we are taken beyond the dead fall to the cursed burial ground, the scope of the film shrinks drastically, making everything feel cramped and cheap like a paper mache Haunted house, even with cheap smoke machine effects to match.
There are a lot of loose ends in the film as well, though it’s hard to tell if they were caused by the script or the editing. For instance, when Jud is explaining the burial ground to Louis, he mentions the wendigo that is suspected to be the source of the land’s power. But… that’s all he says about it. He doesn’t explain what a Wendigo is, what it does, or why it does it. If you’ve never read the book, or have never heard of a wendigo before, the word means nothing. Why bring up the Wendigo at all if you’re not even going to tie it into the lore properly. They could just have easily just said ‘cursed Indian burial ground’ (it in and of itself a tired trope, but still) and we would have just went with it. Another example is when undead Ellie is terrorizing Jud, she turns herself into Jud’s dead wife, and mentions that says something along the lines of “Your wife is “n hell for what you did to her before she died”. What? What the hell did he do? Why the fuck would you even put that out there with zero follow up?!
Oh and let’s talk about Pascow. His role in the film is minimized so much, they might as well have left him out entirely. If I’m remembering correctly, late in the novel Pascow appears to Rachel urging her to come home. In the first film he appears to Rachel instead, who tells Rachel they need to come home. But in this film he appears to Gage. A toddler. Who can barely speak. Now as disturbing of a notion it is to have a very small child being haunted by such a gruesome image (and you all know how much I love disturbing shit), it’s also kind of pointless and dumb. If Pascow wanted to get Rachel to come home, why would he appear to Gage who, again, can’t talk, instead of just appearing to Rachel? One could argue that Gage’s crying and saying the name Pascow freaks Rachel out so much that it makes her want to go back, but you could just as easily say she left to get away from her memories of Zelda in her parents house, or the fact that Louis wouldn’t answer his goddamn phone
We’re also missing out on some crucial motivations to explain Louis’ terrible decision making. No scene of Louis and the grandfather fighting at the funeral, no Louis being blamed for his child’s death, no knocking over of the casket. I might be biased since, for me, that sequence is one of the most upsetting moments of the 89 film. But on top of a missed opportunity to shock, it also takes away the debilitating guilt that motivates Louis to resurrect his child, despite knowing it won’t go well. The guilt is still vaguely implicit, but sometimes horror films need to explicitly illustrate cause and effect, if for no other reason than to keep the audience from screaming “Why the fuck would you do that!?” at the screen for 2 hours.
Speaking of motivations, what are Ellie’s? What even is Ellie for that matter? The film can’t seem to make up its mind. Undead Ellie has Ellie’s memories, remembers how she died, and holds grudges against her parents for both her death and her resurrection. So there must be some part of the real Ellie in there, right? But when Rachel says “You’re not my daughter” undead Ellie agrees with her! So if it’s not really Ellie why does she keep trying to guilt and punish her parents? If she’s just an evil demon or spirit possessing Ellie’s corpse, you’d think it’d be glad that Louis was stupid enough to bury her up there. Free meat suit, hurray! The spirit clearly wants more bodies buried up there, seeing as it takes out the entire family just to bring them back like she was. Surely she just wanted to kill them all for funsies, right? Who the fuck knows. The screenwriter sure doesn’t appear to.
Another super obnoxious thing about this film is it’s cheap fake-outs. It’s one thing to change iconic moments from the first adaptation, but constantly calling attention to it is another. Like the ominous close ups of Jud’s heel and him kicking the bed before Ellie gets him on the stairs. Yeah we get it. ‘The old movie had Gage under the bed, but watch out, we’re mixing stuff up in this one!’ Yup. Got it. Thanks for the reminder. Or the whole ‘Gage almost being hit by the truck’ fake out before Ellie is actually hit. This one is especially stupid since you already fucking showed us in the trailer that Gage isn’t going to die. Why even try to fake us out like that when we already know you’ve changed that too? You have successfully irritated and underwhelmed me, movie, no reason to draw more attention to it.
Here’s a quick list of some other petty little things that bugged me. These aren’t even necessarily the movie’s fault, some just come from the book itself.
If Rachel is so traumatized and adverse to talking about death, why the fuck did she marry an ER doctor?
You expect me to believe that Louis, pragmatic Louis who doesn’t even believe in an afterlife, would just follow Jud over the deadfall, through the woods, across a swamp and up a bunch of mysterious stone stairs, with zero explanation? No questions asked? I’d be asking “What the fuck are we doing?” about every couple of yards.
Why in god’s name would Rachel’s parents not only still live in the house where their daughter suffered and died, but also KEEP THE DUMB WAITER SHE DIED IN?
Why don’t movies ever address the fact that when you’re buried your eyes and lips are sewn or glued shut beforehand? And the scene where Louis is bathing Ellie and he sees the staples in her head and is all freaked out - wouldn’t she have huge fucking staples all across her chest and down her abdomen from the funeral home too??
Despite my complaints, Pet Sematary isn’t completely devoid of entertainment value, not by a long shot. It’s not bad, it just could have been so so much better. Pet Sematary is riddled with missed opportunities,  and if you‘re an overly analytical jaded horror fan with a devotion to Stephen King like I am, they are much more obvious. I’m not mad, Pet Sematary, I’m just disappointed. To quote Tyra Banks, we were rooting for you, we were all rooting for you! You had so much potential, you just dropped the ball. Just like losing a loved one, there’s a mourning period that must be observed. Time to cope with the loss of what could have been. But rest assured, by the time you come out on blu-ray, I’ll be ready to try again.

Tuesday, 4 August, 2015
Ithaca, New York
Dean hasn’t talked to her in almost two years.
It still surprises him, sometimes, how he’s managed to go that long without her, still kills him to think that, despite her best efforts, despite all the missed calls and the unopened messages and those nights she spent sleepless on Charlie’s sofa, hoping, wishing to somehow take it all back, he let her go, let her slip right through his fingers like she never really meant anything to him.
But that’s exactly the problem.
She meant too much.
She’s always meant too much.
So, when he hears Sam speak her name through the phone, breathy and curled around the edges, he almost sees his resolves crumble down, can feel her sunshine-laced smile pierce through the walls he’s spent years of his life building, as if they’re nothing but sandpaper.
The sound of shifting from the end of the other line pulls him out of his thoughts.
“Dean,” Sam sighs again, and his brother can practically imagine him running his fingers through his hair in a nervous habit, “are you-”
“Yeah,” Dean cuts him off, lips narrowed in a thin line that prompts Cassie to fumble with the bedsheets, to sit up against the headboard to look at him.
He notices, with some regret, she’s still naked.
He swallows, hard. “Still here.”
“Okay, well… Y/N.” Deep breath. “She called.”
There’s something in Sam’s voice that bothers him, something that reminds him, distinctively, of that morning he’d called to tell him their mum’s PET scan had lit up like a Christmas tree, back when the battle with cancer was still new to them.
An image of Y/N flashes before his eyes then, and he remembers how that morning had found him in her tiny apartment, remembers how he’d looked at her in awe as she moved around the small kitchen loosely, trying to make the perfect breakfast for him, remembers how he could still taste her on his lips from the night before, the night they met.
He’d never admit it out loud, but there have been times since, on drunken moments and sleepless nights, when he’d wondered whether things would have been different between them if he’d never had to leave, if he’d stayed in Ithaca long enough to stick to his original plan and ask her out on a proper date.
His mother had been sick though, had needed him, and going back to Lawrence to cater for her is something he still hasn’t regretted, something he would never regret, no matter the outcome.
He scrubs a hand over his face. “Is she okay?”
The words come out in a rush, clutched and deep and meaningful, but he regrets them almost immediately, wishes he could take them back the moment he sees the crease on Cassie’s forehead.
“Is everything alright?” she mouths, and he nods, if only because he has no idea what else to do, then heads for the living room, makes sure the door is closed behind him.
“Yeah, she’s fine. She just…” Sam clears his throat. “She tried calling and you’re not answering and she…” Deep breath. “She wanted me to tell you before the invitation arrives.”
It’s almost indiscernible, but Dean’s fingers tighten around the phone.
His jaw flexes.
“Invitation?” he repeats, and it’s incredulous, bitter almost.
And then, it all clicks together, and Dean feels like he’s falling, plummeting down like rain, and everything around him seems to stand still.
He doesn’t know how, but his eyes are hot with tears.
For a moment, there’s nothing but silence, marred only by Sam’s short, measured breaths.
“She’s getting married, isn't she? “
““Dean, I-”
“S’ okay, Sammy.” He takes a deep, calming breath. “M’ okay.”
But he’s not.
He runs his fingers through his hair, marvels at the new shape of his heart now that he’s lost her all over again, just a tiny piece of broken porcelain, hollowed, wrecked.
She’s getting married.
He thinks of the first time he saw her, thinks of the way her red dress danced across her skin like a caress, thinks of the brightness of her laugh, the warmth of her body pressed up against his.
She tried calling and you’re not answering.
He thinks of all the times he felt the words, those three little words, dangling on the tip of his tongue, all the nights he thought about kissing her, that day at his brother’s wedding that ended up being their downfall.
She wanted me to tell you before the invitation arrives.
He thinks of that time they rushed together at the hospital because Eileen was giving birth to his baby niece, of the way her eyes shined as he held the baby in his arms for the first time, thinks that he’d been so wrong to allow himself to imagine what it would be like to start a family with her.
She’s getting married.
She’s getting married.
She’s getting married.
He turns sharply, his fist clenched tight, and watches as his knuckles slam into the wall. The drywall caves in with the impact, smalls bit of white dust falling to the floor and settling around his bare feet. He pulls his hand out, looks down at the already swelling joints and the thin line of blood forming between his middle and ring finger.
He doesn’t feel a thing.

Til the End of Time
Summary: Y/N is the Reader’s high school love, but he doesn’t tell her until it’s too late. Pairing: Dean x Reader Square filled: High!School AU Rating/Warnings: M for angst, character death, and thoughts of suicide (just to be on the safe side, but it’s close to T). Word Count: 1261 Written for: @spnaubingo A/N: This is for @there-must-be-a-lock’s Musical Madness Challenge. And, surprisingly, it’s actually on time (barely!). My song was “Wild Horses” by the Rolling Stones, and, fair warning, this one is angsty. Like, seriously, it’s crazy sad, especially for me. I literally cried writing the end of this, so I apologize in advance for the feels.

If you asked anyone at Lawrence High who the resident bad boy was, they’d all tell you the exact same thing: Dean Winchester.
Dean fit all the bad boy stereotypes: he couldn’t be bothered with going to class, had little to no friends, and he moved from girl to girl, leaving behind a trail of broken hearts. He even wore a freaking leather jacket, for God’s sake.
But, in reality, Dean was the exact opposite of a bad boy. In fact, if any of those people had actually taken the time to get to know him, they would have found that beneath that rough and tumble exterior laid one of the strongest, bravest, and kindest men at all of Lawrence High. But, no one saw that side of Dean for a reason: Dean didn’t want them to see it. He purposefully didn’t let anyone at that school see who he really was. Anyone except Y/N.
She was the only one who got to see the real him.
Dean and Y/N had met her in the second grade, on a chilly, overcast October day, one that had changed his life forever. Dean had been hanging out on the playground, and, as usual, he was by himself. Then, out of the blue, a scrawny, pig-tailed, little girl had come rushing toward him, begging him to play with her. At first he’d refused, putting out the tough exterior he gave everyone else, even at that age, but she hadn’t given up. She’d dogged him, worn him down with her incessant stories and laughter until she’d finally wormed her way into his life and his heart.
From that day on, they were best friends, inseparable. His whole childhood, his whole life, she’d been the only one he would let his guard down for, let his walls down for, outside of Sammy and his mom. She was his rock, his escape. But, even though he knew he loved her, he had never realized he was in love with her, not until one night in their sophomore year of high school.
He’d had yet another fight with his dad, and stormed out of the house and did what he always did when he was upset: called Y/N.
She was there in an instant, by his side no questions asked, an unwavering support he couldn’t imagine his life without. He’d let it all out, yelling about his dad and his unrealistic expectations, about how he’d been made to feel guilty for daring to want his own life instead of the life John had planned for him, when, in the middle of it all, he’d looked up, only to be blown away by the soft smile on her face as she listened to him unpile all of his crap on her.
He’d stopped mid-tirade and frowned, entirely confused by her reaction. “Why in God’s name are you smiling right now, Y/N? Is my life really that amusing?”
“No,” she laughed, throwing her head back. “It’s not that, really. It’s just that I’m happy we’re friends.”
“Seriously?” he questioned with a raised eyebrow. “Even when I whine and bitch at you all the time?”
“Yeah, even then.”
He snorted. “You can’t be serious. You know what? If I was my friend, I’d be running for the hills.”
She laughed again and took his hand, sending an unexpected jolt of electricity through him that almost made him pull back in surprise before he realized he liked it. He really liked it. “Well, then you’re lucky you’ve got me, Dean, because, like it or not, I’m not going anywhere. Even wild horses couldn’t drag me away.”
That was when he knew: he was in love with Y/N, and, in that moment, he was positive that he wanted to be more than just friends with her.
But, he never acted on it. Honestly, he was afraid, afraid that she wouldn’t feel the same way or that telling her would mess up their friendship. He couldn’t risk that- he needed their friendship. Besides, Dean was sure that someday, somehow, the time would be right to tell her how he felt, that he would be able to work up the courage. After all, what was the rush? She was always going to be there.
Except, one day, she wasn’t. One day, she was just gone.
When she’d first gotten sick, she’d brushed it off as just a cold, but it was a cold that wouldn’t seem to go away. It even got to the point where Dean had started to get worried, so he pushed her until she’d gone to the doctor. Eventually, she’d agreed, but only on one condition- that he went with her.
So, he did, and he’d been right there, holding her hand, when they’d found out: Cancer. Incurable. Terminal.
Dean’s whole life had flashed before his eyes that day. He’d never thought he could feel worse, but he did. Every single day until the day she’d died, he’d felt worse. It was like he was dying right along with her, and, on the day of her funeral, he almost did.
After they’d buried the woman he loved, he’d driven out to the bridge, overlooking the raging river waters, with every intention of ending it right then and there. But, by some miracle, he didn’t. Something stopped him, something held him back. Someone held him back.
Y/N.
She was there, in his mind and in his heart, begging him to hold on, begging him to live, for her. So, instead of jumping, he’d turned around, driving right back to the cemetery and to her.
“Hey, Y/N/N,” he whispered when he arrived at her grave. He fiddled with his jacket as he stared down at the polished rock, the only piece of her he had left. “I don’t exactly know what I’m doing here. I mean, not just talking to you now, but at all. I don’t…” He paused, his voice breaking as tears gathered behind his eyes. “I don’t know how to live in a world without you in it.” He took a deep, staggering breath. “But, I do know, that I’m sure as hell gonna try, if only because you’d kick my ass if you knew I was thinking of giving up.” He paused again, searching for the right words. “I’m gonna accept that job offer at the mechanic’s. I know my dad wants me to join the Marines, but I...I’m gonna give this a shot, like you wanted me to.” He looked down at her name on the fine, new marble and smiled. “I’m gonna make you proud, Y/N/N, even if you can’t be here to see it, I’m gonna make you proud. I promise.”
He took a crumpled up piece of paper out of his pocket, and placed it by the freshly laid flowers, his hand shaking as he began to sing, his soft voice floating in the wind. “Wild, wild horses….couldn’t drag me away….Wild, wild horses….we’ll ride them some day.”
As he straightened up and turned to walk back towards the Impala and his new life, a single ray of sunshine fell on the paper, illuminating a hand-drawn image of a horse next to a simple confession: I love you, Y/N, ‘til the end of time.
Dean smiled as a gentle breeze filled the air and ruffled his hair. He knew that, while Y/N may be gone, she’d always be with him, no matter where he went. ‘Til the end of time.
