When you want to talk about the amount of time It has been that you have been studying Korean ❌don’t use 동안 & 배우고 있다. There’s a specific grammar that you’re supposed to use here to illustrate the amount of time you have been studying.
(으)ㄴ지
Indicates how much time has passed since some situation or action occured and can be translated as “Since”. You’ll see a few different verbs attached to this, It can be said in a variety of ways.
(으)ㄴ지 ~되다
(으)ㄴ지 ~넘다
(으)ㄴ지 ~안 되다
You will hear this when Koreans ask you “how long have you been studying Korean?” or “How long have been here?”.
Ends in Vowel or ㄹ = ㄴ지
Ends in Consonant = 은지

FINAL NOTE:
Using 동안 is not technically Incorrect. It's absolutely fine for you to use, but I believe the method I taught in this lesson may be seen as being more natural than the other way. I often see it taught as 동안 + 배우다 but not with (으)ㄴ지, so I wanted to teach another way of doing it!
