Halloween Movie Review (2023)
Did this last year and maybe the year before, but I can't find it... I watch scary movies all month and give you a brief overview. It's become a tradition for me... Some are craptastical...some are not so bad, but here's what I got so far.
----
The Appendage (2023) Hulu
3/10 – (-7 cause I didn't like it.) Bit cheesy in the way of monsters, it’s like 80s movie magic. The premise was about negative self talk being a bad thing and making a monster from it via chimera dna. Interesting premise, but poorly implemented. No pet death, no kid death. Bit of blood and guts.
----
No One Will Save You (2023) Hulu 5/10 – (+4 for interesting film process, +4 for actress and -3 cause I had to read up the producer’s explanation of the ending. Suspenseful, not scary… Interesting because there was all of two words spoken in the entirety of the movie. Not like A Quiet Place, because it wasn’t sound based, but it was very emotive. The actress did a good job emoting but the story premise sort of fell flat. Not her fault though, she did good with what she was given.)
No pet death, no kid death - Interesting and weird premise about suffering and conversion from an invasion force learning human culture.
----
Mirrors (2008) Max – HB0 7/10 – (-3 cause it's older) Kiefer Sutherland – Mystery movie about mirrors. It was a pretty good. No kid death, no pet death, but the kids were potentially going to be harmed. Interesting movie about mirrors and a demonic influence...not sure how this one got past me in 2008.
----
The Pyramid (2021) Max - HBO
3/10 – (+3 for the Anubis and Set) awful script, decent set, budget blown on a cool Anubis looking monster. Acting was not good... don't watch it.
----
Prey (2020) Hulu
3/10 (+4 pts for the accuracy of First Nation Comanche Peoples and -1 for being a crappy movie about toxic masculinity)
• The only thing I liked about the movie is that it gave some backstory on Predators. Would have liked a movie about that more than anti-toxic masc-crapfest.
• Canine death (Not the dog, but a wolf) - Animal Death • Lots of gore • The First Nation Comanche portrayal historically accurate. • Dumb toxic guy trope… historically accurate I suppose in this context. Besides jerk trappers... First Nation Males gang up on a female who kicks their chief’s ass… Said toxic males don’t listen because she’s a girl… historically accurate I suppose in this context. • Bunch of toxic males picking on lesser animals to prove their badassery… historically accurate I suppose in this context. • Having personal problems why Predator(s) keeps coming to a place where they get their booties kicked in most situations because they themselves are so toxic they don’t see females as a threat… sick of seeing this trope. Plenty of males find females intimidating these days.
----
Talk to Me - (2023) VUDU 8/10 Genuinely spooky! (-2 for the brutality... that was crazy unnecessary)
• Brilliant piece - Kids find a embalmed hand of a psychic medium and then use it to get a high off of getting possessed for 90 second. • Brutal piece – Sort of a Shock and Awe piece in the brutality. • Teenager dies - Kid Mutilation (sorry it’s a spoiler…) It’s sort of necessary for the story, but maybe not so necessary to see it. He lives… • No canine death - Animal death (by car)
---- Hell Baby (2013) Hulu – Defined as a Horror Comedy
6/10 - (-4 for the mentions of gentrification of a black neighborhood) Supposed to be a funny campy trip about a couple due to have babies and buy a house to remodel. • No canine death (one avian) • Little bit of devil baby violence
----
I See You (2019) Netflix 7/10 - (-3 for Helen Hunt's face... she's scariest thing in this. Sorry Ms. Hunt... you shouldn't fight aging.) Overall it's not a bad movie...
Home invasion and kidnapping - teens get shot, no animal death
The weird thing about that one was there were people living in the walls. Called it Phrogging. Where you sneak into someone's place and crash there for a few days without anyone knowing you're there but there was a twist at the end, so it spun back around to being somewhat decent.
----
Incarnate (2016) Netflix 7/10 (-3 for trope of no one listening to easy instructions.) Had some Constantine vibes, standard demon hunter type trope. Why do scary movie characters never listen?
• Demonic possession movie • No canine death - Kid sorta beat up a little because he was possessed • Stupid people not listening to instructions.
----
The Nun 2 (2023) Vudu
7/10 - (-3 for weird tie in to explain why Irene was important.) Not bad. Good tie ins to the Warrens universe... actually would have liked it if the two movies had been one movie instead.
• Finished the story from the first one so if you haven’t watched the first, watch that one first. This one will make more sense. • No canine death. • Bullies – Typical school mean girls • No child death
----
The Ritual (2017) Netflix
2/10 - I despise this trope. Getting lost in the woods and then deciding to keep doing the exact opposite of what you should be doing if you're lost.
• Group of British fellows go on walk about through spooky forest and get lost • Like Blair Witch, but with a creepy monster and a cult • No canine dead, but dead animals here and there. • Monster was cool. Reminded me of Wintekowa from Conrad's Stevenson's Paranormal P.I. game.
----
The Boogeyman (2023) Hulu 7/10 - (-3 for lack of genuine unique spook... everything was telegraphed I could see it happening before it happened.) Stephen King story... overall not bad, bit dark themed with a family recovering from a parents death • Kids get harmed but no dead • No canine death or animal death • LOTs of fire… • So so… not incredibly scary, but good chiller/thriller
----
The Hole in the Ground (2023) Max – HB0 5/10 - (-5 kinda boring to start... got better at the end so... very slow burn)
A story about changelings
----
Friday the 13th Part 1 Uncut + 2-4 Vudu
7/10 - (-3 for age) I can't say anything bad about these. Yeah, they're old and that means the the movie magic isn't great, but it's just .... CARNAGE ... and for the time these were top of the line scary. I bundled these together because they're all basically the same.
• Cult classic had to watch some of it on Friday the 13th that happens in October… that’s like a rule or something • Standard slasher horror film • Nudity, savage deaths, some trope-y stuff but if you've never seen them, you should watch them at least once if you like horror movies.
---------------------------
The Immediate F troop....
The Lure (2015) – HBO Max – sadly no dubbed version – Kong doesn’t like to read while being scared. It’s a shame because I wanted to see mermaids as monsters.
Hellhole (2022) Netflix – Polish with no English dub.
The Empty Man (more like Empty Movie) 20 minutes of distant / semi-serious gazes while their friend stares into oblivion to get to the title… yeah… no.
Oracle (2023) HBO Max -So bad that I didn’t finish it.
Skinamarink (2022) Hulu – What? Ok… so this is too Indy for me. House with kids trapped inside??  dad missing, no way out?? Had old video tape / found footage vibes. Coulda been cool, but 14 minutes in, it’s just basically looking at a dark room with maybe 10 words so far. NEXT!
I would love love LOVE to watch the scary movies outside of the US, but it's a FLAW of mine... I can't read and be scared at the same time. So I could read the text, but then I miss the spooks... or I could watch the spooks and miss the text. So I have to fail them... I need dub versions or I can't pull them out of the F troop... sorry.
I cannot stress enough how amazingly wonderful this website is for getting you past triggers that you do not wish to see. There's ALOT of triggers covered here. So you can check a movie before you buy now.

10 Underrepresented Horror Movies to check out for Spooky Season. (List originally written in May of 2021):
1.) Happy Death Day
This movie is great if you want a (mostly) comedic movie with a horror edge to it.
Like I said, this is a horror comedy first and foremost, with a time-loop twist…
It’s fun, fast paced, and has a surprising amount of character development and conflict throughout.
Tumblr media
2.) Get Out
Delightfully refreshing.
This movie mixes horror with meta humor and racial commentary. I thought it did a great job creating a feeling of unease throughout, and it managed to have a fleshed out and intriguing protagonist that you can really root for.
The music gave me Coraline-vibes for some reason— what with all the harp/string based instruments, and with the unsettling chanting throughout its soundtrack.
Tumblr media
Overall, it’s a movie that mixes typical horror conventions with a couple of modern twists.
3.) Freaky
This movie isn’t without it’s faults, as the dialogue and the tropes are often very cliche…
Purposely so... But it was still a bit corny at points.
But it grew on me as it went on.
There was some great character acting, and much like Happy Death Day, it takes a familiar concept and adds a horror-style twist to it. (Which makes sense, considering they’re both directed by the same person.) This time, the gimmick is the tride and true, good ol' body swap.
Tumblr media
There were a ton of classic slasher/ horror movie references and meta moments, and it was rich with humor. Plus there's a group of diverse leads that helm this movie… they bounce off each other well, and have a ton of chemistry together. It's just an all around fun, freeeaaaky, horror movie.
Tumblr media
4.) Suspiria (1977)
Suspiria does a brilliant job obtaining an eerie and eye-catching atmosphere, with the use of primary/secondary colors and it’s haunting original soundtrack... It’s also the first (and only) Giallo film I’ve ever seen.
Tumblr media
The plot is pretty straightforward. But the real artistry, is in the atmosphere it sets and in the strange surrealism and mysteries it presents.
It relies much more on supernatural thrills and horror than your typical Giallo film typically does. But it is certainly a welcome change here, it's a movie meant to be experienced. Using it's strange, uncanny nature to garner thrills in the audience, both sonically and visually.
Tumblr media
5). Doctor Sleep
The sequel to the horror classic, The Shining.
As far as sequels go, I found this movie outstanding. They did a fantastic job recreating the iconic settings, and with the character casting. The villains were really unnerving. They presented a real danger to the heroes, (Rebecca Ferguson did a fantastic job in particular). The powers were dynamic and unique. And even though it ran at a fairly long runtime, it flew by very quickly.
Tumblr media
6.) Halloween (1978)
John Carpenter and Debra Hall are masterful, as a directing and scoring team. The soundtrack is tense and iconic, and this is the horror movie that popularized the slasher. This movie had shockingly little-to-no gore, and mostly relied on building suspense instead. The way that this movie makes you search for Michael in the frame is amazing, and not something I've seen too often since.
7.) The Descent
(Probably?) The of the most well known horror spelunking movies…
This British-Australian movie stars an all female cast, and kicks some serious ass.
It had some serious build up, and some of the better executed jump scares I’ve seen in a horror movie.
Tumblr media
There's themes about trauma, and not knowing who to trust. And what follows, is a story about a group of adrenaline junkies. that inadvertently get themselves lost in a cave.
Though it eventually veers into a creature feature.
The cast were convincing and distinctive as their respective characters, and the cave scenes were brilliantly claustrophobic.
Tumblr media
The sets were impressive. The (original) ending is incredible… And the characters were capable, (and maybe just maybe,) equally as vicious as the cave dwellers.
(note: it is so important to watch this with the og ending!)
8.) The Lighthouse
This is one of the weirdest movies I’ve ever...experienced.
Shot in black and white, on Kodak Double-X 35mm footage, this movie really commits to the time period it’s set in.
Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe really bring their A+ game here, and really commit to portraying the compelling tale of strangers that slowly start to lose their sanity, while cut off from the rest of world.
Tumblr media
The set design is immaculate and the aforementioned lighthouse is truly impressive in scope.
Tumblr media
It feels like one big fever dream, and has the watcher yearning to know who’s actually telling the full truth. There’s a lot to unpack and analyze: from the painting inspired shots, (ie. Hypnosis.) and it's references to mythology, and even explores themes like sexuality, isolation, etc.…
It does a ton of interesting things visually, too.
Tumblr media
If I had to describe this movie… I’d probably look to how the director himself put it: “You know, does Prometheus ever encounter Proteus in any classical mythology? Not that I’m aware of, but maybe that’s happening in this movie. And so, therefore, Prometheus is taking on some of the heroes that wrestle with Proteus’s characteristics as well as his own.” —
9.) The Banana Splits Movie
Basically, it’s Five nights at Freddy’s meets the Banana Splits show. (A REAL 1960s children’s program that actually existed.)
It’s a crazy ass horror movie that takes real life kid show characters, and makes them the bad guys...
Tumblr media
So, if you’ve ever watched a television show, and thought that there was something just... inherently creepy about it, than this one’s for you. (Especially if you’re into crazed-animal animatronics.) (I'm looking at you fnaf fans)...
Tumblr media
It was insane, gory… and while it’s admittedly not the greatest horror movie in the world, it certainly ran with it’s ridiculous concept and knew exactly what it was going for. (Not to mention that it also has some pretty decent practical effects.)
Tumblr media
10.) Carrie
Sooo seventies, and sooo awesome!
This movie is another horror classic based on Stephen King’s first published work.
It's definitely more of a slow burn, saving most (if not all) of the terror until the third act.
So, if prom night movies seem boring to you, Carrie is here to shake things up… And nothing spices up prom night quite like religious overbearing parents, pigs blood, psychopathic kids, and a telekinetic massacre… right?

(ID in alt and under cut)
1. Movie poster based on Practical Magic, with the title in the top center and the names Guillermo de la Cruz and Nandor the Relentless along the top. Nandor is close up in the center, face worried and thrown into harsh shadows by candlelight. Guillermo is just behind him, staring determinedly at the viewer with a stake raised. Nandor's left hand is held out behind him, the back of it pressed to Guillermo's chest as if to hold him back. In the foreground in front of them is a cluster of lit candles and the silhouettes of dozens of bats flying past. A tagline reads 'for a vampire with a lifetime of heartbreak, falling out of love is the trickiest spell of all.' Text at the bottom says 'a beansprean production.'
2. Movie poster based on While You Were Sleeping, with the names Guillermo de la Cruz and Nandor the Relentless along the top. Close up of Nandor in his super slumber robes, eyes half open, drooling and looking barely awake, head surrounded by question marks. Guillermo, a vampire, is beaming and hugging him around the neck from behind, a smear of blood on his cheek. The title 'While You Were In Super Slumber' lays across them in white with the tagline 'a story about love at second sight.' Text at the bottom says 'a beansprean production.'
3. Movie poster based on The Wedding Planner, with the names Guillermo de la Cruz and Nandor the Relentless along the top with the tagline 'a romantic horror comedy about love, wishes, and other events you just can't plan for.' Waist up of Guillermo and Nandor on a background of white roses dripping with blood, pooling and staining at the bottom. Guillermo is leaning heavily against the bottom of the poster with both elbows, one hand holding up his face as he stares blankly into the middle distance, tired beyond belief with dark circles beneath his eyes. Nandor is leaning into him from behind, one arm propped on his shoulders and holding a pen while he gestures vaguely. The other hand is holding up a notebook. Nandor, also with dark circles beneath his eyes but with a more manic expression, is looking upward and appears in the middle of reciting some new list of demands. The title 'The Wedding Planner' is scrawled over the top of them in fancy font. Text at the bottom says 'a beansprean production.'
4. Movie poster based on Pretty Woman, with the names Guillermo de la Cruz and Laszlo Cravensworth along the top. The title 'Pretty Vampire' is printed vertically on the right side with the tagline 'he flew into their lives, off the balcony, and needed medical attention.' In the center, Laszlo floats midair, facing left with one hand in his pocket. He is wearing a black suit with a patterned purple waistcoat and embroidered loafers. He is wrenched backward with a shocked and angry expression, bent almost in half, as Guillermo grabs onto his tie from behind. Guillermo, wearing a pink and red patterned sweater, black chinos, and black boots, is flailing midair, held up only by his death grip on Laszlo's tie as he pumps his legs back and forth in an effort to regain flight. His eyes are wide and panicked, teeth clenched together, and there are shadows of bat wings at his back. Text at the bottom says 'a beansprean production.'
5. Movie poster based on The Vow, with the names Guillermo de la Cruz and Nandor the Relentless along the top. Nandor and Guillermo are facing each other in profile, intimately close and with their foreheads pressed together, smiling gently and staring into each other's eyes. Nandor has his hands on Guillermo's hips and Guillermo has one hand on Nandor's waist and the other tucked around the back of his neck. Several top buttons of Guillermo's shirt is open, and there is blood staining the collar and dripping sluggishly from two holes on his throat. Blood is also smeared around Nandor's mouth and chin. The title 'The Vow' is overlaid with the tagline 'his word is their bond'. Text at the bottom says 'a beansprean production.'
6. Movie poster based on The Breakup, with the names Guillermo de la Cruz and Nandor the Relentless along the top. Nandor and vampire Guillermo are both sitting up on either side of a massive king-sized coffin with a double lid. A line of duct tape runs down the adjacent wall and divides the coffin down the middle. On the left, Guillermo, hair a mess and wearing a blue striped pajama set, sits with his knees to his chest, hugging his balled-up corner of their shared comforter to his chest and glaring off to the side, away from Nandor. On the right, Nandor, wearing a loose cream blouse, sits pouting with his arms crossed, glaring over at the side of Guillermo's head. The title over their heads says 'the break-up' with the tagline '…pick a side.' Text at the bottom says 'a beansprean production. coming on a sheet near you November 2023.'
7. Movie poster based on Failure to Launch, with the names Guillermo de la Cruz and Laszlo Cravensworth along the top. Full body of Laszlo and Guillermo as Laszlo, wearing a burgundy and pink suit, cheerfully pushes Guillermo across the screen from behind, grinning at the viewer. Guillermo, wearing a teal and brown patterned cardigan, beige chinos, and boots, is leaning back into Laszlo, body fully straight and rigid, digging his heels in as they scrape along the ground. He looks anxious and terrified, hands up in front of him as if to protect him from whatever he's headed toward. The title above their heads reads 'failure to launch' with the tagline 'to leave the nest, some fledglings just need a little push.' Falling down from the title is a little black and orange bat, a dotted line following it down as it fails to fly upward. Text at the bottom says 'a beansprean production.'
8. Movie poster based on 10 Things I Hate About You, with the title '10 Things I Ate Instead of You' large in the right center of frame with the names Nandor the Relentless and Guillermo de la Cruz above and below it, respectively. A tagline along the top reads 'how do I resent thee? let me count the ways'. In the center is Nandor from knees up, curled in an armchair with his knees tucked to one side, his left arm resting on the chair arm and his right elbow braced on the other to play idly with his hair. His expression is a practice in aloofness, looking off to the side. Behind him stands Guillermo, left arm leaning against the back of the chair and right elbow braced to lean his head against his hand. He stares longingly at the side of Nandor's head, face flushed and lips pressed together nervously. Text at the bottom says 'a beansprean production.'
9. Movie poster based on You've Got Mail, with Guillermo and Nandor. Their names are listed at the top. They are walking casually toward the viewer on far sides of the image, looking off to the side away from each other with dreamy smiles, ignorant of the other's presence. Nandor is wearing a brown and gold belted tunic and boots, twiddling his fingers together. Guillermo is wearing black boots, gray chinos and vest, and his trenchcoat, a stake loose in his hand as it swings at his side. The background is blurry green and white, shadows stretching out in front of them. Between them, a tagline reads 'Someone you pass on the street may already be the love of your afterlife.' and then the title 'You've Got Mail' beneath. 'Text at the bottom says 'a beansprean production.' /end ID

Sanderstober 2023
Upon request, I’ve provided new art prompts for this year’s month of October!! As always, feel free to do all or some of these, pick and choose whichever stands out to you! If you missed a day’s prompt but still wanted to do art for it, absolutely do that and post it whenever you want, no worries whatsoever. It’s all completely laid back and just for fun! I’ve added to this list without consulting old ones, so if I used a repeat idea, it’s possible that I just was interested in seeing more of it again this year!! Hope you all enjoy! If you’re wanting me to check them out at all, you can use the tag, #Sanderstober2023 🎃
Oct. 1st: Give me a spooky or Halloween-y figure and how he looks on Sep. 30th (their off-time, go as comical as you’d like) and then how they look Oct. 1st (traditionally how they are known to look!).
Oct. 2nd: Give me a flower design inspired by a type of candy of your choice!
Oct. 3rd: In celebration of the awesomeness that is Fionna and Cake, I’d love to see you take a character, or characters from your fave series, and give them a multiverse makeover (what they’d look like in a different universe, under different circumstances)
Oct. 4th: Take any historic landmark, and give it an autumn or Halloween-y makeover
Oct. 5th: Since I’ve been on my D&D kick with Roleslaying with Roman, what would any Halloween- or spooky-themed character be in a D&D world? What would be their race? Their class? Their backstory??
Oct. 6th: Google a Random Color Generator and use it to give you three colors. Then use those three colors to create a new Halloween creature or character.
Oct. 7th: Along the lines of Spiderman Noir, take any character you want from some sort of fiction, and depict how they might look like in any other time period!
Oct. 8th: In the spirit of having fun with both Halloween AND Christmas, take a Halloween story/character and draw what they might appear as if they were actually a character talked or sung about in a Christmas story.
Oct. 9th: Take a group of characters from one of your favorite pieces of content and create tarot cards featuring them. Google tarot cards to get inspiration if you need!
Oct. 10th: Take a musical (one that I would suppose wouldn’t already be scary) and create a poster for it as if it were the title of a scary movie
Oct. 11th: Google a Disney character generator, pick out two characters, and create what a mash-up of those two characters would look like!
Oct.12th: Pumpkin spice latte obviously has its spotlight during the fall, but could you come up with another special coffee concoction for another season/holiday of the year?
Oct. 13th: Take a Fall/Halloween concept or character and use it as inspiration for a fashionable outfit
Oct. 14th: As a tribute to Barbenheimer this year, take any character from Barbie or Oppenheimer and depict how they’d appear in the other movie
Oct. 15th: Take the last text you received. Use all or part of it to base a whole movie off of it of any genre, and create a poster for it
Oct. 16th: Take one of the names of your current pet, old pet, or friend’s pet, and use that name as the inspiration for a superhero. What would that superhero look like?
Oct. 17th: Is there a phrase that one of your parents or friend says all the time? Take it and imagine it’s the name of a children’s book. What would that children’s book cover look like?
Oct. 18th: Take a Disney villain, and depict them as a Disney princess
Oct. 19th: Take a Disney Princess and depict them as a Disney villain!
Oct. 20th: Take any Greek god and imagine what their preferred activity might be on an average Fall day.
Oct. 21st: Take a board game (one that I would suppose wouldn’t be scary) and create a poster for it as if it were the title of a scary movie
Oct. 22nd: This is an annual favorite of mine - take take any character(s) from a piece of content of your choice and depict them like a Tim Burton character
Oct. 23rd: Take a famous brand logo (Toyota, Playstation, Campbell’s Soup, Facebook, literally any logo from anything) and design a Pokemon inspired by the logo and color palette! Bonus for naming it and giving it stats!
Oct. 24th: In the spirit AGAIN of having fun with both Halloween AND Christmas, now take a Christmas story/character and draw what they might appear as if they were actually a character talked or sung about in a Halloween story.
Oct. 25th: Another favorite of mine: take any character(s) from a piece of animated content you enjoy, and draw them in the style of another piece of animated content!
Oct. 26th: Go to the latest playlist you were listening to, put it on shuffle, and see what song it plays. Take the title of that song and use it as inspiration for a Halloween/Autumn themed drawing of your choice.
Oct. 27th: Take a favorite pair of characters from a piece of content you enjoy and depict what their matching Halloween costumes would be!
Oct. 28th: [Random event from this past year] … and Zombies!!
Oct. 29th: Every town’s got some local businesses with interesting names (Jerry’s Tire Barn Emporium, stuff like that). If you know of one in your local town, take that name, and imagine it to be the name of a Haunted House. Depict what that location may look like. I wanna learn about some funny local business names.
Oct. 30th: Take one item from your desk/workspace, anything you want. This item is now the inpiration of a brand NEW cryptid (like Sasquatch, Loch Ness, El Chupacabra, just some legendary creature we have yet to find hard evidence of). Depict what this cryptid would be!
Oct. 31st: And, of course, in typical fashion for the big day, give me any character(s) of your choice, from any piece of content, enjoying Halloween in whatever way seems appropriate to them!!
Hope you all have a WONDERFUL October! And hope you enjoy these different art ideas! Looking forward to anything it may bring about!

Final Thoughts On 2023
I know I have a very dysfunctional sense of time, but this year seems extra short and long to me. But such is the way it goes. Vague recap time!
Shut Down published! I went to my first therapy session. I toured apartments with my roommate. I traveled for the first time with just a friend. I got to meet the voice actors for The Animaniacs Pinky and The Brain. I celebrated my first Aro week. I wrote my first pilot episode. I got on TikTok for class and ended up not hating it. I volunteered to help at an student Oscar event and for student plays. I lost my best friend. I finally joined my school's writing club. My parents accidentally read my poetry collection and loved it. I moved into my very own apartment. I went on a family vacation to New York and got to see my almost little sister for the first time in 4 years. I hosted my very first book signing! I published Reprogrammed. I learned how to live by myself. I took a pottery class. I started a movie script. I let go of my best friend for good. I became the secretary for the writing club. I found a little bit more of myself in my fashion sense. I hosted a Halloween party. I met the producer of Me Before You. I made more friends and learned how best to love some of my others.
And in what has been one of the greatest decisions I've ever made, I stayed incredibly active on this lovely site and I got to meet, know, and love all of you. You guys are my diary and my joke book and a safe place for everything I am and love. I can be 100% myself on here without a single worry and you guys will never understand what that means to me.
My love list will just have to continue to grow, but that's okay. I love each and every one of you and I cannot wait to spend another year alongside you. Happy New Year! 🥂
All my love,
~ toribookworm ♥️

Can I request jason voorhees and the going through a corn maze prompt? Like in the corn maze from the freddy vs jason movie?
Dying for Some Peace and Quiet
Jason Voorhees x Reader
Summary: Jason won't let a group of teens ruin your night in the corn maze.
Warnings: Mentions of someone dying
Word Count: 689
October 2023 Halloween Prompt List
A/N: Thank you for the request! I went ahead and rolled with the Freddy vs. Jason idea. I hope you like it! Note: I'm happy to repeat any of the prompts for different characters as well :)
Tumblr media
Even though Halloween was around the corner, and Jason could have surely passed as "normal" looking while out, you two decided that having some time alone would be good.
To be fair, any time was alone time when it came to Jason. He wasn't exactly the biggest fan of people, so it was probably safer to find a secluded area anyways.
At least, that's what you tried to do.
You recently discovered a large, expansive cornfield nearby, and it was the perfect location for you both to truly get the Spooky Season experience.
However, you didn't realize you weren't the only one who had this idea.
You were practically buzzing from excitement. You had packed some candy to snack on and a few games to play while you hid away from the rest of the world. Plus, this would be so much better than typical corn mazes. Most tended to be made easy for little kids, and it was always filled with annoying families trying to find their way around. But this one would be peaceful and actually fun to walk through.
As you continued your way closer, your smile suddenly dropped at the booming sound coming from one side of the cornfield.
Loud music and shouting could be heard practically a mile away. You were surprised that you didn't notice it sooner. And of course it had to be a large group of rambunctious teenagers in the center of it all.
You wanted to cry at this. You hadn't gotten to truly celebrate the fall season so far, and this was your one opportunity to have quality time with Jason. You had literally been looking forward to this night for weeks, and now it was being ruined by teens trying to get laid or black out from all the alcohol.
"I'm sorry," you whispered.
Jason could barely hear you over how softly you spoke. He just tilted his head in response.
"You never really got to experience a fun Halloween. I wanted this to be special, but of course my luck had to ruin everything."
You looked at the ground and kicked the dirt around with your shoe.
"We should probably just go home."
You turned around and started walking back where you came, only to hear Jason's footsteps heading in the other direction.
"Jason?" you spun back around.
You could see him hiking through the cornfield, making his way towards the partygoers.
You weren't exactly sure what to do then, eventually deciding to just stay where you were.
A few moments passed before screams began to erupt from the teens. You could catch glimpses of their running forms in between the corn stalks.
You finally found your footing as you jogged into the field in hopes of finding Jason. He could clearly handle himself, but you still worried that some victim would find a way to fight back.
You called out for him a few times before finding him seated on some makeshift chair, a dead body only a few meters away.
When he noticed you, he perked up a bit and raised a can of soda to you, offering the drink casually.
You couldn't fight the smile that spread on your face.
"Thank you," you murmured, accepting the can.
You cracked it open and sat in the empty chair next to him, taking another peak at the body.
You glanced back over to the slasher and he just shrugged as if to say "it worked, didn't it?"
You sighed and took a drink of the soda while you dug out some of the candy you brought.
You both sat like this for a while, just enjoying each other's companying and the Halloween treats before he suddenly stood up, looking down at you.
"Hm?" you hummed.
Without any hesitation, he poked you in the arm and made a quick dash in the corn, his figure quickly being swallowed up by the maze.
"Hey!" you called out. "That's not fair- you got a head start!"
And with that, you chased him into the corn maze. There was no way you were going to lose another game of tag.

Welcome to the 2023 GVF Fic Writers Halloween Event! Prompts are below the cut, but first, some info about this very spooky affair.
٭ The rules are simple: pick a prompt from the list below and write a fic about it! The prompts range from particularly Halloween-y to just general autumnal vibes, and you're welcome to riff off any of them in any way you choose. On your post, please note which prompt (or prompts) you picked for your fic!
٭ This event is open to all GVF writers, whether you're a seasoned vet or a first-time writer! If you're a reader, show your love for GVF writers by liking their fics, reblogging them, and commenting in the reblog or even just in the tags. All fics from this event will be reblogged by me and added to a masterlist that will be linked in my bio!
٭ Fics can be written for any and all pairings — x reader, slash, platonic, x oc, multi, whatever you like! It's also open to any length fics (blurbs, oneshots, series) and all genres, from vampire sexy to candy sweet to scary movie spooky and everything in between. Please make sure to clearly tag any potential triggers in your fic — we want this event to be accessible and fun for everyone. Please also use a readmore in any fics that are longer than blurb length, just to keep the dash tidy.
٭ Absolutely no negativity will be tolerated, whether from readers, writers, or anyone else. This is a community-building event, and if you're not here to have fun and be kind to others, don't be here at all.
٭ Tag your fics with #gvfhalloweenfics. To make sure I don't miss your fic, please tag me (@hearts-hunger) so I can reblog your fic and add it to the masterlist!
٭ The deadline is technically October 31st, but I'm happy to add fics to the masterlist any time before or after Halloween if your creative energy is grooving or lagging. You can also write as many fics as you want!
٭ Now that I've talked your ear off, let me say one last thing before we get to the prompts: my asks (with anon) and dms are always open for any questions about this event! Please reblog this post to get the word out, and tag any writers you think might be interested! Happy writing, and happy Halloween!
