Emrhys Cooper Comedy-Drama ‘The Shuroo Retreat’ Gets U.K. Deal, Release Date (EXCLUSIVE)
Comedy drama “The Shuroo Process” has been snapped up by 4 Digital Media.
Co-written by and starring Emrhys Cooper (“Dreamcatcher”), the film also represents Cooper’s directorial debut. He wrote it with Donal Brophy, who also co-stars. The duo also produced the feature.
Rainey Qualley, Fiona Dourif, Tommy Dorfman, Olivia Sui, Hakeem Kae-Kazim,Jeff Hephner and Cornelia Guest round out the cast.
“The Shuroo Process” tells the story of New York journalist Parker Schafer (Dourif) who finds herself infatuated with a charismatic guru played by Brophy afyer becoming dissatisfied with both the state of her love life and the publishing world. Schafer begins a journey of self-improvement but will she remember to “beware of false prophets?”
Zachary Quinto and Jamie Moss exec produce for Idyllwild Pictures in association with Incline Productions. Glen Trotiner, Lynn Mancinelli and Benjamin J. Murray also produce.
“In my extensive research and personal experiences with New Age trends, I recognized the need to highlight the inherent drama of these scenarios; both the humor of the sometimes outlandish nature of the options available as well as the possible dangers of these ‘quick fix’ weekend retreats,” said Cooper. “The struggles of each character in the film are challenges the audience will easily relate to because, essentially, my message is that change is possible. I believe the self-help industry is a microcosm of what is happening on the worldwide stage: the media is manipulated by the powerful, truth and fact are perpetually blurred, and people unquestioningly follow whatever trend, however ludicrous, is most pedaled on social media.”
“4Digital Media are excited to announce the release of ‘The Shuroo Retreat’ in the United Kingdom and bring the film to the filmmakers’ home country!” 4 Digital Media said in a statement. “With a great cast and a very modern story that mirrors some of the current discussion around self-care and mental health awareness, we’re sure this one will connect with audiences on many levels!”
The film will be released on demand on July 25.

National Trails Day
The outdoors are calling out to us, telling us this is the perfect time for a hike — it is National Trails Day after all, which is celebrated only on the first Saturday in June of each year, falling on June 4 this year. Organized by the American Hiking Society, this event aims to bring together all trail enthusiasts, young and old, while honoring those who help maintain and preserve hiking trails for everyone to enjoy.
History of National Trails Day
The history of National Trails Day stretches back almost 50 years. Back then, there were no government-mandated trails for walking and other leisure activities. This changed when President Lyndon B. Johnson made a law, which established trails that people could use for recreation (and tourism too). This system saw much change over the years, with local authorities and organizations adding to the network of trails. With each new organization dedicated to hiking and outdoor activities, more and more incentives to expand the existing trails became available to people.
Until now, private entities have been expanding on the governmental law, but soon, a presidential task force concluded that more was needed to be done to expand the trails and safeguard the environment. This report tasked federal authorities with providing funds to local authorities and officials to help them develop and maintain pathways in their regions. The American Hiking Society, which by then was a big name in the world of hiking, decided it needed to devise a scheme to further incentivize people to take up volunteering and activities to maintain and enjoy the country’s hiking trails, and thus, they launched National Trails Day, which has been running ever since.
National Trails Day timeline
October 2, 1968 Trails Act Becomes a Law
President Lyndon B. Johnson establishes an official network of trails across America that can be used for recreation and tourism.

An official hiking organization is created, which begins hosting meetings and thinking up new initiatives to increase interest in hiking.
January 28, 1985 A Review of Outdoor Recreation Services
President Ronald Reagan signs an executive order, the Presidential Commission on Outdoor Recreation Resources Review, to conduct a thorough review of America's outdoor recreation services.
January 28, 1987 A Call for More Commitment
The Presidential Commission on Outdoor Recreation Resources Review, now called the President’s Commission on Americans Outdoors, calls for more outdoor commitment from the government for protection and funding.
1988 National Trails Agenda Project
A cooperative venture is undertaken between the National Park Service and American Trails to look at trail-based issues and to provide recommendations that satisfy America's need for trails.
1991 An Idea Takes Root
The American Hiking Society comes up with a program to highlight the importance of trails and dubs it 'National Trails Day.'
1993 First National Trails Day Comes into Being!
The American Hiking Society launches the first National Trails Day, with hundreds of organizations participating — this day has been celebrated ever since.
How To Celebrate National Trails Day
Participate in special events
Do more than hike
Show appreciation to volunteers
Throughout the U.S., the American Hiking Society branches and various private organizations host multiple events and activities to celebrate hiking and promote awareness about the trails you can use. So grab a friend (two- or four-legged) and set out on a little hike around your local trail.
Hiking trails are for more than simply hiking. These trails offer plenty of recreational opportunities for those who don’t like hiking. They also offer excellent opportunities for birdwatching and activities like canoeing or paddle trips, and, of course, most trails can be used for biking as well.
These pristine trails and pathways have been maintained by a group of volunteers. So let’s take a moment to appreciate their efforts. You can even celebrate these efforts by sharing your appreciation on social media. You would not only be honoring these volunteers but you would also be building interest in hiking too! Another way to show your appreciation would be to become a volunteer yourself. Check out the Appalachian Trail Conservatory or other organizations just like it that are responsible for maintaining hiking trails and find out if there is anything you can do to help.

Why We Love National Trails Day
We get to explore nature
Hiking (and outdoorsy activities) are healthy
It is a great bonding activity
National Trails Day is a great big celebration of the outdoors. In a time when all most of us usually see is a giant corporate jungle, hiking is a wonderful and refreshing pastime for us. We get to visit places where nature still reigns supreme, which is a brilliant way to spend our time.
Going on a quick (or long) hike instantly gets your blood pumping. Even if you are not into hiking as an activity, outdoor aficionados can enjoy many more activities in areas with hiking trails, each of which have their own health benefits. Plus, being in nature is a giant stress buster and good for the soul. If this isn’t enough to convince you, spending time outdoors and in nature is a known aid for non-clinical depression and a great way to restore mental- and physical faculties.
These trails are truly for everyone. It offers young children a place to safely run around outside, a breath of fresh air for anyone who needs it, and a chance for the elderly to admire some wildflowers... There is no competition here, no apps or distractions. It’s just you, your loved ones, and, on some trails, your pets too. Happy bonding!

“Cleo? Cleo? Are you there?”
Cleo was dead, so her hearing wasn’t all that good, but she somehow managed to a voice as she was dusting the mannequins in Cleo’s Bodybuilding.
“Hello?” She walked to the front door- no one was there. “Joe?”
“Well for goodness sakes don’t step on me!”
Cleo looked down and screamed as she saw a potato laying on her doorstep. However it was a very particular potato, as it has a black mustache on it.
“MUMBO?” Cleo shakily put a hand to her chest. “If I had a beating heart it would be doing that quite rapidly right now. What on earth are you doing here? How did you even get here? And why are you a potato?”
“Could you pick me up? I feel quite patronized considering the way you are looking down at me.” Mumbo’s prompt voice came from the potato. Cleo picked him up, and there was really no denying it now- the potato had Mumbo’s face and hair, and was dressed in a tiny farmer outfit. Cleo tried desperately to remember how he’d looked at the beginning of the season- definitely less starchy then now, that’s for sure. “That’s better.” Mumbo the potato said. “Cleo, I heard of your services and I am here, willing to pay moderate amounts of diamonds for said services.”
“I’m just wondering how you got here.” Cleo replied.
“Lots of ender pearls.” Mumbo sighed. “Which is why I need your help! Cleo, you run a body building shop, correct?”
Cleo glanced around at the mannequins. “Yeah.”
“I need you to sculpt my body, Cleo. You’re the only one who can.” Mumbo pleaded.
“I’m sorry, what?” Cleo gave the potato a confused look.
“Look at me! I’m a potato! No arms, no legs, no hot bod! Could you sculpt me into the hottest potato the world has ever seen? I have some diamonds! I can pay!”
“Mumbo, that’s not exactly what… wait, do you mean with a knife?” Cleo suddenly smiled. “I love knives…”
“Yes! Exactly! Sculpt me into a potato god!” Mumbo cried.
“Deal.” Cleo went to shake Mumbo’s hand, then remembered he was a potato and didn’t have one. “Oh. Well, let’s get to it, shall we?”
She told Joe not to disturb her under any circumstance (“if you’re dying, good”) and closed the shop for the day. She carved away at the potato, creating arms, legs, and abs. Mumbo, who was still a potato and therefore couldn’t feel pain, remained awake during the process and described what kind of body he wanted.
And after a full day of carving, he was compete. Legs and arms that moved (she’d had to do a lot of magic work to pull that off), a ripping six pack (“well someone’s gotta compete with doc and scar” Mumbo had said), and all other human body parts.
“I’m chuffed!” Mumbo cried in joy, racing around the floor. “Oh, thank you Cleo!” He pulled out twenty diamonds and tossed them to her. Cleo thought he was underpaying, frankly, but seeing a potato-sized Mumbo running around was entertaining enough to make up for it.
“You look great, Mumbo.”
“Oh yes I do! One hot potato, I am. Goodbye now, Cleo! Thank you again!” Mumbo waved and walked out as pompously as he had as a human.
“Oh he’s definitely going to get picked up by a hawk or something.” Cleo muttered to herself. The idea made her giggle.
“Cleo?” Joe rushed in suddenly, white as a ghost. “I swear a potato just walked past me and said hello! Has the world gone mad? Or have I?”

National Black Bear Day
It’s a ‘beary’ good day to celebrate National Black Bear Day on June 4 this year, which has been observed each year on the first Saturday in June for the sole pur-‘paws’ of teaching people about black bears and dispelling the myths surrounding them. This was the last pun, we promise. Just bear with us.
History of National Black Bear Day
Bears inhabited practically every continent when humans first made their way to North America. The grizzlies actually thrived in all western states, from Mexico to the tip of Alaska. The smaller black bear, a relative to the grizzly, was living in places as far-ranging as the Atlantic and the Pacific in North America, and Mexico to the northern edge of the continent. Since the black bear was a valuable source of thick hides for clothing and shelter, rich meat, and sweet fat for the Native Americans, we can see why they valued it and passed on the stories of these bears through their oral folktales.
The European settlers brought with them their fear of the wild and the animals that lived in it. These bears posed a threat to life, livestock, and crops and so they began killing them. Their fear made its way into popular children’s books at the time, which showed bears attacking hunters alongside other predators preying on their cattle. As is common with a human presence, forest land was wiped out to make space for open farmland, and the bears began losing their homes. The more the population expanded, the more black bears were killed for safety, food, or other purposes. Because they reproduced much slower than other mammals, the black bear population began to dwindle.
However, restoration programs and recovery of forest land saw their numbers go up again, with some states like New Jersey and Maryland reporting a five-fold increase. While these bears have not been able to reclaim their entire territory across North America, there is still a good number of black bears in the wild. In fact, they are listed as the least endangered species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature due to their large population. While the bear population is expanding, so is the human population, to the extent that the two are coexisting in many areas.
The North Carolina Black Bear Festival founded National Black Bear Day to celebrate America’s black bear while trying to raise awareness about this animal and dispel all the myths and fear surrounding it.
National Black Bear Day timeline
15,000 Years Ago The Humans Arrive
Humans enter North America for the first time — bears are all over the continent at this time.
1492 European Colonization Begins in America
While Norse colonies had already been established in North America, systematic European colonization begins in this year.
1900s Black Bear Numbers are Dwindling
The number of black bears in the wild is reduced to the point of extinction due to an explosion of human populations and habitat loss across America.
Mid-1900s Hunting is Regulated
People begin to recognize the importance of black bears — hunting seasons become heavily controlled or closed altogether and bear restoration programs begin in some states.
1980s–21st Century Black Bear Numbers Recover Rapidly
The black bear population increases 2% a year all over the continent due to reforestation, black bear reintroduction programs, and regulations on hunting black bears.
2002 Residents Like Black Bears
A mail survey done in New York State reveals a majority of residents enjoy having black bears in their state.
2018 Our Day is Here
National Black Bear Day is officially ordained as a celebration to be observed annually.
How To Celebrate National Black Bear Day
Learn more about the American black bear
Take a trip to see black bears
Learn about black bear attacks
National Black Bear Day is your chance to learn more about these magnificent animals and how you can coexist with them respectfully. Humans have a moral responsibility towards the conservation of nature and the animals that need it to survive. Learning more about this day, and the black bear, helps us realize what majestic creatures they are and how we only need to make a few minor adjustments to exist together.
Live near a national park or animal preserve that has a black bear population? Make a field trip out of it and see these animals up close and personal — just not too close. If you can’t physically visit these animals, there are plenty of global reserves and many in America that provide animal cams to view these animals online at any time. Take a minute to observe these cuddly creatures in their natural habitat.
Read up on what to do (and what not to do) in case of a black bear attack. For example, avoid feeding wild bears, don’t run or climb up trees if they chase you, and know that they usually always avoid humans unless they have no choice at all. They aren’t interested in eating humans — their food is 95% plant-based, although they do eat small animals like frogs and fish.
Fun Facts About National Black Bear Day
Bears, bears, everywhere!
Black bears are not always black
They are ‘super hibernators’
They can climb trees
North Carolina has the largest black bears
The black bear can be found in 41 of the 50 U.S. states, at an estimated number of 800,000.
They come in a range of colors, sometimes in the same litter, such as shades of cinnamon, blue/black, blue/grey, and, in rare instances, white.
In northern states, they can hibernate for up to eight months in the spring season but, in the southern regions, they hibernate for a shorter duration or not at all depending on food availability.
These super dexterous animals are sometimes more comfortable on a tree than on the ground.
According to black bear biologist Colleen Olfenbuttel, North Carolina’s coastal regions have the largest black bears on the planet, probably because they have access to high protein crops and enjoy mild winters.
Why We Love National Black Bear Day
We learn about nature’s gifts
It dispels myths about black bears
Avoid accidents
A day dedicated to the black bear is an amazing way to build awareness about this animal, its history, and how our actions impact it. The more we learn, the more we can help to conserve this gift from nature so future generations can enjoy it too.
If you see a black bear today, you shouldn’t scream and run for your life (they can outrun you easily), nor should you be ‘aww-ing’ and walking towards it. National Black Bear Day helps us understand the animals we share our nation with, and reduces our chances of causing damage to ourselves and the bears.
As you’ve read this article, you have probably learned more than you knew yesterday. That makes you more informed about bears than you previously were and, hopefully, wiser in terms of the ways in which to act around them. While this day works towards dispelling the scary myths about these animals, it also helps us avoid bear-related accidents by teaching us common rules to follow in the presence of a black bear.
