The Feral One - Prologue

I had an idea for a mini Finnick x reader Tumblr series so I wrote a short prologue to gage y’all’s interest. Lmk if y’all want to see more!

“I want you guys to forget everything you think you know about the games,” Haymitch states as the District 12 team sits down to eat.

“Last year was child’s play,” Haymitch continues. “This year, you’re dealing with all experienced killers.”

“All right. What does that mean for us?” Peeta asks.

“That means you’re gonna have to have some allies,” he replies.

Peeta starts, “ok I think that if we…”

“Whoop,” Haymitch interrupts. “You’re not the problem.”

“No,” Katniss states as she stares at the pair, seemingly upset that they even suggested allies.

“Look,” Haymitch sighs. “You’re starting at a disadvantage. Most of these people have been friends for years.”

“That just puts us higher on their kill list,” Katniss states.

“Do it your own way,” Haymitch tells her. “But I know these people. You go it alone, their first move is going to be to hunt you down. Both of you.”

“Katniss come on,” Peeta sighs.

“How could any of us even trust each other?” she asks.

“It’s not about trust,” Haymitch responds. “It’s about staying alive.”

After the group eats they move to the lounge to watch the recap of the reapings. Haymitch proceeds to give his tributes a rundown of their competition.

“Cashmere and Gloss,” Haymitch states. “Brother and sister, District 1. They won back to back games, capital favorites, lots of sponsors. They will be lethal.”

He clicks to the next clip. “And the other half of the career pack, Brutus and Enobaria.”

“What’s with her teeth?” Katniss asks, noticing the abnormally sharp teeth in her mouth.

“She had them filed into fangs so she could rip peoples throats out,” Haymitch explains.

“She’s committed, I’ll give her that,” Peeta declares. Haymitch moves on to the next clip.

“Wiress and Beetee,” he states. “Not fighters, but brilliant and weird, real tech savvy. He won his games by electrocuting six tributes at once.” The tributes absorb this information as Haymitch moves on to the next clip.

He moves onto the next clip and Katniss speaks out. “Finnick Odair right?”

“Yes, he won his games at 14, youngest, ever, extremely humble,” Haymitch replies.

“You’re kidding,” Katniss gapes.

“Yes, I’m kidding,” Haymitch sighs. “He’s a peacock, a total preener. But he’s the capital’s darling, and they love him here; charming, smart, and very skilled at combat, especially in water.”

“What about weaknesses?” Peeta ask and Haymitch skips back to the escort calling out the female tribute’s name.

“Y/N Y/L/N,” Haymitch states. “Known in the capital as ‘the feral one’, winner of the 69th games”.

Katniss and Peeta shrink deeper into the couch.

“Isn’t she, um, a serial killer?” Peeta stutters.

“Well technically most of the victors are,” Haymitch responds. “But yes, she has killed outside of the games. She’s a deeply misunderstood creature.”

“Why is she Finnick’s weakness?” Katniss asks.

“She was Finnick’s first victor that he mentored,” Haymitch explains. “It’s hard not to get attached to the ones you bring home, especially your first. However, those two are a bit more complicated. I’d says it’s probably more of a… situationship… than an actual relationship but if you mess with either of them I can assure you that you’ll be dead pretty quickly.”

“So we should avoid them,” Peeta states, taking a mental note of Haymitch’s explanation.

“No,” Haymitch states, confusing his tributes. “The best move is to ally with them. They’re your biggest competition in the arena besides the careers, but they’re arguably more reliable and you don’t want to get on her bad side. They call her feral for a reason.”

Decarabia - Day 21

Race: Fallen

Alignment: Neutral-Chaos

The greatest demonic compendium, the Ars Goetia, holds many strange demons, but one sticks out to many as the most peculiar; the sentient pentagram, and our demon of the day, Decarabia. An iconic design in the series, this demonic starfish has appeared in many SMT games, almost always as a fallen race demon, yet his role in the goetic grimoire is... bizarre, to say the least.

Decarabia is the 69th (nice? sorry, i just had to.) demon listed in the grimoire, and his description gives way to him being incredibly bizarre. Described as a pentagram star when first summoned, this Marquis of Hell's purpose is effectively as a treasurer and jeweler, providing his summoner with the ability to understand the value of any gems and gold in their possession when presented to the demon. As the lesser key of Solomon puts it,

"He appeareth in the Form of a Star in a Pentacle, ⭐, at first, but after, at the command of the Exorcist, he putteth on the image of a man. His office is to discover the Virtues of Birds and Precious Stones."

But what's that about birds? Well, I have no idea! Next to his ability to appraise gold, Decarabia provides his summoner with the ability to commune with birds, as well as being able to conjure a bird familiar to do one's bidding. Decarabia is strange, even by the standards of the grimoire, with his reign being defined mostly by a control over things that could either be done by a human, or are mostly useless!

However, I do have to admit, I respect the hustle. As the sixty-ninth demon in the grimoire, it's quite clear that Solomon was likely running out of good demons to summon, given that it finishes at 72 (Joke shamefully stolen from Tony4You.) Decarabia's entire existence is bizarre to me, yet also fascinating, a Marquis of Hell whose entire domain is based around things that most people could already do, or would have next-to-no interest in.

In SMT, though, this misfet marquis is given some much needed love- his design, a demonic starfish with an eye in the center, is about as good a design they could get given how vague most descriptions in the Ars Goetia are, and is iconic in its own right- you show even a casual Persona fan this star pentacle and they'll recognize him right away. Of note, of course, is his appearance in SMT III, wherein he's found in the city of Ginza waiting for the arrival of his best bud Forneus, who you murdered earlier that week. I gotta wonder if he ever found out about the untimely fate of his friend.

Overall, in spite of his domain being small and nigh-useless, this misfit starfish has won many an SMT fan's heart, and I'm no different. Decarabia my beloved.

It's wild to have done this, because I haven't really been keeping an eye on my stats until now. I've made almost 400 original posts this year, and increased my notes by 25,000 annually looking at 2023 compared to 2022. I have been a lonely little tumblr goblin since 2012. I came on here to read other people's smart thoughts about things I was watching and to reblog gifs, and I never really thought building community here was possible, but here I am 11 months after making my first BL analysis post with a bunch of friends I didn't know a year ago, and about 20 more lenses through which I watch my silly little gay shows.

mostly early American history specifically the Mexican-American war, Bleeding Kansas/John Brown American Civil War and the reconstruction era. Also Irish immigrant history in New York City (i have the flag of the New York 69th hanging on my wall lmao) and the Saint Patrick Batallion. I really like the Irish uprising of 1916 and the history of the IRA. I have a pretty wide range of historical topics i like but those the main ones.

☆ The Afterlife Fic (The Best I Ever Had in My Entire Life... Or Death) by LovingCup

AU- After dying in an accident, Louis Tomlinson arrives in the Afterlife. Not Heaven and not Hell, Louis finds himself in Judgment City UK: a pristine city where the food and entertainment are divine and the newly departed must undergo a Review of their life on Earth to determine if they have lived a life worthy of advancement in the universe, or if they must be returned to Earth to be born again in a new body.

On his first full day in the Afterlife, Louis meets Harry Styles, and the two have an instant connection. Over the course of their Reviews, they fall in love and begin to find that even though they didn't know each other on Earth, they are nonetheless linked to one another in perfect ways. Both are hoping to move ahead in the universe together, but they are challenged with the threat of separation if one or both of them is sent back to Earth to be born again.

Loosely based on the Albert Brooks' film "Defending Your Life" starring Brooks and Meryl Streep. One scene in particular is drawn from the movie, but other than that scene and the general concept, this story veers far away from the film. There were no blowies in the 1991 movie, I swear!

notes: another one of my favorites! for what I remember, a long read, but so worth it. This story touches on topics of grief, loss, love, life and fears through the life of Louis and Harry and how they navigate their relationship in the afterlife (ends good).

☆ You Fill My Lungs With Sweetness (Can I Be Close to You?) by sideofzemblanity

Busy picturing Harry’s stupid face on the stupid dummy, Louis goes through a series of kicks before returning to a low guard and cycling through punches. Harry’s still talking, gesturing with his hands as he rounds Louis, standing to his back. “You do a few butt-shaping exercises, tighten this up a little bit,” he smacks Louis’ arse and the omega freezes while Harry cheerfully continues, “you could pull this off.”

“You know what?” Louis snaps, lifting on his tiptoes to get the leverage so he can wrap his arm around the alpha’s neck, forcing him to bend in half while Louis locks him in a chokehold. “Pull this off,” he snarls. They stagger over a few steps, Louis gritting his teeth as Harry tries to break free. “Is it because Payne hates me?” he complains, voice edging on an annoyed whine, “Or is it, like, an omega thing?”

Too late, Louis realizes that Harry has got a grip on his leg and this time as he pulls against Louis’ hold, it loosens, the alpha lifting him in the air before slamming his back into the mat, breaking Louis’ grip completely. Harry kneels on the mat, hovering over him with a sneer, “Don’t kid yourself. Nobody thinks of you that way.”

Taking a few steps backward until he is beside a very bewildered looking Harry, Louis takes a deep breath. “We are, uh –” He reaches out and touches Harry’s arm. You cannot actually be doing this, he thinks. But then he does. “We are getting married.”

The Proposal AU, where Louis is the no-nonsense editor in chief of one of the largest publishing houses in the country, and Harry is the unlucky assistant that gets roped into a fake engagement to prevent his boss from being deported. Things don't go as planned.

Wait, what!?

Here we go again. Just as I thought I was going to send my final note, I forgot to finish the guides towards trans resources and HRT. This one was going to be more special, yet serious as I know a few of you are interested in transitioning with the proper help. I really don’t want anyone buying expensive placebos here on this site when you can get the proper hormones at your local area for affordable prices. Resources helpful towards trans people and other identities is a must too!

Keep in mind this may take some time to wrap up as I’m trying to take a mental break from the constant uploading these past three days. I want them to be as useful as they can for this time period.

At this point, I have finished uploading all of my captions for good! No more new, original captions! The movie is over! Take this as the credits scene instead. All you will see now beside the guides are uploads of “legacy” writing and a reblog or two of someone else’s work. Can Meowth write books?

Yes, with a 68 on the Pokémon writing scale.

Note: This post is for classic Kanto Meowth. Alolan, Galarian, and Team Rocket Meowth will (probably) be reviewed in other posts, possibly with a post concluding Meowth as a whole.

Is this Pokémon physically capable of writing?

Yes. Meowth is surprisingly humanoid and has the right angles and posture to write but it would still have a hard time grasping a pen in its paws. It could dip its claws in ink, though it would probably be a pretty unpleasant sensation.

Yes. Meowth is a popular house or classroom Pokémon in many regions and children especially love Meowth. Meowth spends a lot of time around humans, and therefore has a lot of exposure to books.

Probably not. None of Meowth’s behavior is very humanoid and it is a very instinctual Pokémon. It likely doesn’t have an interest in learning to read and may not be fully aware of what reading is.

Yes. Meowth has the Pickup ability, making it perfect for gathering items. It also lives close to humans and therefore would be able to obtain the needed items from them.

Maybe. Meowth’s Technician ability implies that some are more intelligent than one would assume. Additionally, Meowth spends a lot of time around humans and may pick up some of the lessons nearby children are learning. The question is more about how well Meowth’s brain is geared to learning human skills and utilizing them. A Meowth with the Technician ability may be more likely to do so but it is a bit of a stretch.

Maybe. Meowth will fully commit to whatever holds its focus but it is easily distracted by things it likes more. Specifically, Meowth will obsess over shiny things and round objects. If it can keep that type of focus on writing, it would be a powerhouse writer. But, the greater likelihood is that it would get distracted before it began.

Does this Pokémon have anything to write about?

Meowth doesn’t have a lifestyle typical of the Pokémon. Some Meowth are house Pokémon, some are schoolchildren’s companions, some are early team members of new trainers, some just spend their lives running around the roadside, some fight alongside grunts in evil teams, some live on city streets, some end up abandoned in Pokémon shelters. A particularly adventurous Meowth would likely have many stories to tell, but many also lead uneventful lives.

Would this Pokémon be able to get their writing into a book?

Maybe. Meowth physically could with some effort and, if it was close to a human, it may be able to communicate its desire to do so. Meowth doesn’t have any skills that make it stand out here though.

Probably not. Meowth are usually very content in their lives and get a lot of happiness from simple things, like coins. It doesn’t need something like books or writing to fulfill itself.

Meowth are most active at night and many writers do their best work at night. Additionally, Team Rocket has a Meowth that is capable of human speech but this isn’t necessarily reflective of the species. Team Rocket’s Meowth’s abilities show what Pokémon are capable of if they push themselves.

Yes, Meowth can write books with a 68 on the Pokémon writing scale. It also gets a Dunsparce point because Meowth is probably seen doing a lot of things in the anime that could be used to write a book but I do not remember. It gets a second Dunsprace point because this is the 69th Pokémon being reviewed.
