Am I the only one worried about adult gaang movie? I know Bryke are the ones working on it, but honestly…I don’t have much faith in them.
Look, Avatar is like this sacred prefect thing to me, and I cannot handle a thought of something ruining this perfect story and characters. It ended so perfectly, but to be able to write another story with these characters they’re gonna have to create problems, right?
Like for instance, how are they going to create a villain that will be an actual threat to Aang (especially Aang in the avatar state), without breaking the rules of the world they built? They broke those rules over and over again in Korra to one up a previous villain.
Another conern is, are they going to ruin the relationships? Writers don’t like seeing the characters in happy relationships, case and point, Korra and Mako. I don’t really care about them, I just found it wierd spending the whole first season building up their relationship just to break them up in the second season. It’s a problem with a lot of writers, they’d rather break a couple up and get them back together again by the end, than let them be in a happy and healthy relationships. Same said for the friendships. I’m scared to discover the movie starts with “I haven’t talked to Zuko in years because A B C happened”.
Another thing, is there going to be an arc for every single character? If so, how are they going to accomplish that in 2 hours? I love love love how every single character in ATLA gets an amazing personal arc, and well, if they’re going to to the same in the movie, how will that work? Or will some of the characters get a backseat and become not as significant. Again, I have to bring up an example from LoK. You can’t say Mako and Bolin’s parts in the last seasons were as important as the rest of the characters’. Again, I personally don’t care about those characters, so I don’t have a problem with it, but the balance between the characters in ATLA is what makes it superior to LoK, so I’m sure if they decide to make Sokka’s (for example) journey less significant than others’, it would make a lot of people angry.
Anyway, these are just my thoughts. Of course I want to see more content from the Avatar universe, especially the gaang, but I’m just scarred from LoK and not sure I can handle them ruining characters even more.
Can we just have 2 hours of the gaang on vacation on ember island just getting in all kinds of shenanigans?

Mainly because I want Kai and Jinora stories but bryke should create a comic series or like mini series through avatar studios where it’s Kai and Jinora going on adventures in places aang used to visit and/or new locations and just exploring the avatar universe cause not only does that give us kai and Jinora back but it also is a great way to expand the world building and lore through a bigger lens then what’s just relevant to current bigger plots and it can just be like a fun little time for everyone and Jinora can explore and learn a bunch of new things like I know she would and kai can get back to his wondering roots and ugh

avatar live action tea - and it’s about both the 2010 and 2024 versions!!!
sean gantka from the legend of korra team responds to questions about rumors of bryke having needed to leave the 2010 production of shyamalan’s the last airbender, essentially breaking down the reasons to being that bryke had little to no say in the direction of the film and that shyamalan was a one-man team who ignored counsel on how to translate the cartoon into a live action. before leaving during the production of the film they did expect to be much more involved in the project than they actually were, as evident by mike’s words below: (source; avatarspirit, 2007)

as for the 2024 adaptation, there really were creative differences between bryke and netflix (which i find odd since netflix is known to be quite hands off. but then again, natla is expected to be their next flagship show so there was probably a lot more micro management there) and that avatar studios was in talks while they were still developing the new series. whether this was the nail to the coffin in their decision to abandon ship the second time, we may not know for sure until much later.

this is a really odd thing to consider with atla, but for a show that loves taking liberal scoops of hinduism, buddhism and south and east asian cultures for its worldbuilding, atla is really weird about letting its characters practice religion.
everything in atla is people taking about spirituality, defining themselves with spirituality, yet nobody engages it in the context of belief. we are given the concept of worshipped beings in the atla universe; tui and la and agni for example. but none of these gods are ever seen as gods that the characters hold belief in. we barely get a framework of belief with the earth kingdom (the earth kingdom is examined politically and never religiously in the series) which would actually be interesting because so many cultures did have a god or goddess of the earth. the water tribe goes into cultural rituals, but only for an episode. we know nothing about air nation religious practices beyond nonviolence bad and vegetarianism. even the fire nation is practically a blank slate.
it's almost like the creators were nervous at the idea of letting the characters practice a religion, even a created religion that's foreign to the majority of their (most likely christian) audience. the weddings are very christian-coded (you're telling me that the FIRE nation wouldn't have a hindu-style marriage which literally involves FIRE), and the characters are never seen worshipping or participating in cultural festivals beyond the usual 'oohh fireworks and food' type thing. normally i wouldn't care, speaking as a former kid who did spend religious festivals like that, but if you're going to put characters forward that practice eastern religions and then have them interact in the most surface level way possible, what's even the point?

You know, one of the good things coming out of the James Somerton fiasco was finding out that Bryke never planned for Korra/Asami from the start.
I didn't think they were ever planned (especially when Korra was originally written for one season), but thank's Todd's video (time stamp 38:45) I got a more in-depth story of how Korrasami came to be.
youtube
Here's the article Todd linked, and here is the article's link to Bryan's tumblr post regarding korrasami.
They became a couple because of their character and dynamic for one another and writers saw fit to make it official despite limitations.

I’m taking Bryke leaving Netflix’s ATLA series with a grain of salt.
They have NO room to judge any changes Netflix makes after what they did in Legend of Korra.
(I haven’t forgotten Beginnings part 1&2)

I speak 4 languages and my Tik Tok algorithm knows that, so now that I’m obsessed with ATLA again my tik tok is full of clips from ATLA in those 4 (English + 3) languages. And it’s a Nickelodeon show from 2005 so I guess they didn’t put that much thought or effort into who would voice those characters in all those different languages, so it feels pretty sloppy at times. So now that I’ve seen certain moments of the show dubbed in different languages, it makes me really appreciate the original voice cast. They did such an amazing job! Especially since most of them were still kids or teenagers. Seriously, they’re freaking amazing!
I have to give a special shout out to Aang’s voice actor, because his voice is the most different in other languages, it’s either obviously a woman dubbing Aang, or a grown man trying so sound young. It just sounds wrong, as opposed to Zach Tyler Eisen being a little kid and doing such a fantastic job voicing Aang. The way he hits those emotional moments as a little kid actor is just fantastic.
Seriously, I’m so thankful the creators chose actual kids to voice the main characters. Goes to show you another aspect of the show they put so much thought into.

@ atla showrunners
id really like a show not about Aang (but Aang can be in it as a very minor-type character, along with Kuzon etc) that focuses on Air Nomad characters and culture before they were exterminated by genocide. so we can see the vibrancy and beauty of Air Nation culture at its peak, untouched. (maybe young Gyatso could be the MC - i mean you have to be pretty boss to get tasked with training the Avatar)
in The Headband seeing Aang's joyful dance party enliven the rigid and suppressed Fire Nation children was so delightful and really makes you see how disadvantaged the world is without the influence of Air culture
plus, seeing what Aang lost would make the og ATLA (at this point in time) even more poignant since we as the audience never saw the Air Nation in its heyday and only know of it by hearsay and/or Aang's muddled & strained recollections in ATLA. even in Korra we don't get much info into any recovery of its relics or culture
i think this would be a good avenue for a story set in the past

I love kataang as much as the next person. They've been my actual OTP since '05. However, I will say that them getting together at the end of the series was a bit rushed. Do I like them together? Yes. Do I think they would have ended up together no matter what? Yes. But was their "getting together" sped along too quickly at the end? Also yes. They were both still kids, and they could have used a little time to sort things out before committing to each other. That's all.
I realize that we don't know how much time elapsed betwen the coronation and the scene at the tea shop, but from a viewer standpoint, everything got wrapped up so quickly, that I barely had time to process what happened.

hot take for zutara fandom. im not saying to love bryke i could care less about em but the idea they could care about us? is laughable .. they do not i promise they are not thinking about us one iota.
the obsession some have with bryke baffles me as does pairing em both together when one i think it as Mike said he related to ZUKO..
but anyway i promise they give zero fuck about the zutara fandom like zero percent they are not going muahaa zutara is evil i they do not care about zutara . i just think the hate boner towards the atla creators within the zutara fandom comes off as pure main character syndrome nonsense without em atla doesn't even exist. plus it was a collab project /teamwork they budged for toph to b a man to girl.. there was never a secret evil war of zutara vs kataang its all just fandom nonsence..
