Self-care is drawing Shaxs doing Bajoran things (I drew him with Kira on DS9 before the season 3 trailer was even out, so as far as I’m concerned I manifested it)

"most aren't quite so evident" she says to kira, as if she herself isn't one of kira's walking-talking scars, as if she isn't carried around by kira, while she only grows heavier and more inflamed as the episode goes on. still. kira pushes her mother's hair aside and touches her mother's face so gently--watching almost possessively when dukat removes the scar from her mother's face because her mother really was a scar she was happy to wear only now it's different. now her mother-scar is too evident. now she understands her mother but she doesn't want to. kira has been pushed into too many grey spaces in her life and she really didn't want her mother to be another. which is why she moves her mother's hair aside, to pull her mother and her mother's bravery from the grey shadow. and then the scar is "healed" and maybe kira is bitter than she herself can't be.

Once more frustrated by people seeing Light's various moves as stupid because they're looking at it from a point of omniscience and not from the perspective of Light himself and the information he had access to :')

my favorite hobby is obsessing over the characters/ships no one cares or rarely talks about. it isn’t a conscious decision, i don’t like it, and frankly it’s the worst “hobby” i could take up solely because of the little to none content i get, but someone has to do it. and i, along with the 7 other people in the fandom who are in the same boat, will do it.

kira's ongoing narrative in relation to cardassia and post-genocide complication of easy stories -- not, of course, that it was not genocide, but that some people she thought of as enemies were allies, and many people who were a part of the oppressing forces, were later, in turn, the victims of a mass attempted-genocide
and the idea that she, personally, cannot hate every individual cardassian, because she genuinely wants to build and heal and what that looks like, versus many (understandably) traumatised bajorans who are still and will always be at war
it's such a complicated, ongoing, twisty-turny storyline that returns again and again, with dukat, with garak, with ghemor, with damar, with ziyal, with rugal (although he and kira don't really interact, but in terms of the wider complexity of bajoran-cardassian interactions), with marritza (I've forgotten characters I know it -- there's natima as well, although I don't think she and kira interact?)
and then her ongoing narrative related to healing vs punishment vs power with -- yes li nalas and bareil, with winn and opaka (battle lines really is the first realisation I think of kira's needs and ongoing journey), with the people she was in the resistance with, some of whom are trying to create new lives some of whom cannot, ziyal again...
i also wonder about a stitch in time, and the knowledge that cardassia's rich, spiritual life was all but stamped out by a military dictatorship, and how kira would feel about this/whether she would feel a connection with the underground religious space that survived despite it
i think the reason it (mostly, let's not go into the storyline with her mother) works is that it's something her narrative returns to over and over, like a worried tooth, not necessarily in a single straight line, but via individual stories from many directions, with this understanding that she's at the centre of this massive change and she may have to take on a leadership position in order to facilitate and hold together bajoran ideals and culture and history and pain and hope through that, and bit by bit she grows into that role. and in some ways it doesn't come across as conscious, but it builds up slowly like drops accumulating, until there's a picture there
it's so so good, and imo the most complete/successful storyline given to a character in ds9 (I think nog-and-rom as a somewhat more intimate ongoing push-and-pull storyline, and also benjamin sisko on a macro spiritual level have a similar kind of thorough exploration, if different in focus, and also - to an extent - odo). my one big thing with kira's narrative is consistently how they handled ziyal, that is my personal biggest detractor. shocking because -- perhaps with benefit of hindsight, perhaps with a little less sexism idk -- there were so many ways they could have gone with ziyal, it seemed obvious while i was watching, and yet

study break 📖✨
[Image Description: bleach character's izuru kira, hinamori momo, and abarai renji in their shin'ō academy uniforms taking a study break. the girls uniform is a white kosode (loose sleeved japanese shirt) with red stripes, red hakama (loose pleated trousers), white socks and sandals. the boys uniform is the same but the red is replaced with blue. there is a circular symbol on each of the chests of both uniforms. kira is standing with his back to us looking over his shoulder, he has light blonde hair and is smiling. momo is sitting on a rock, legs crossed, dark hair in tiny pigtails, smiling up. renji is leaning against the rock and sitting on the grass smirking, he has bright red hair that's pulled back into a tight ponytail. digital art in a flat gouache colour blocking style. End.]

genuinely so sorry to slide into your dm's like this, not sure that this is proper tumblr etiquette, etc., but i just got so excited when i read in your sayu-gets-the-death-note ask that you've been trying to talk yourself out of doing an entire statutory interpretation of the manga death note rules because i've been trying to talk myself out doing an entire metaphysical interpretation of the manga death note rules, so... if you, like me, simply cannot talk yourself out of a stupid idea once it sinks its claws in your brain and would at some point like to share notes about I THINK one of the sexiest and most broken parts of this series, i'd be delighted.
oh my god dont apologise im just excited a single person on earth besides me is interested in a pseudo-legal (very pseudo) perspective on the death note rules. high fives you. for the most part im just incredibly impressed that they manage to retain so much internal consistency especially since so many of them have the vibe of, like, random amendments which were included just for funsies. it's incredible they don't overtly contradict each other. ive been obsessed with them since i first saw them and have already spent way too much time reading over them but yeah i'd honestly love to dig into them more. HTR13 does organise them into something closer to Parts or Divisions which makes the structure a little more coherent. it drives me nuts that sometimes a numbered rule will have sub-provisions that have absolutely nothing to do with each other. drafting that gives me a stress migraine

Imagine suddenly dying on the battlefield, accepting it wholeheartedly, but then getting revived against your will, without your consent, and nobody doing anything to stop it or pointing out how unethical it is.
Furthermore, 3 of your subordinates and comrades' souls unwillingly get stuffed inside of you, forever unable to rest in peace. And even after months, decades of living as a forced stitched together corpse, no one has a problem with it.

I made a new account bc my steam one has some really annoying limitations, but I was pretty deep in the main story and didn't do much Elysian Realm so I decided to actually do that properly this time. Insane place and Mei is taking no shit, I love it.

the way they got Keeley Hawes, a woman goddess with THE most beautiful British accent, to play her character in Orphan Black Echoes with an American valley girl accent is killing me. she’s still so clearly British in her mannerisms and facial expressions for the love of god just let her speak with her flawless British accent.

"I actually like Kira/Bareil and Kira/Shakar. Yes, they were incredibly boring, but she has enough excitement in her life, she doesn't need it in her love life, and they both clearly cared about her. And then when she broke up with Shakar she went on to date Odo, who desperately wanted to be boring but the Founders just wouldn't let him. Let Kira have a boring-ass no-drama relationship that makes her happy! She's earned it."
